The Incomparable

222: Forcegiving

the incomparable number 222 November [TS]

hey new Star Wars trailer came out and [TS]

this is the first in a series of [TS]

podcasts we will we will talk about it [TS]

for the next nine hours he's these next [TS]

is 8080 some seconds i am jason and i am [TS]

joined by the two biggest star wars fans [TS]

I know Dan Morgan and John Sirica hello [TS]

  gentlemen [TS]

haha i'm so excited for this [TS]

Thanksgiving vacation and nothing to do [TS]

with Thanksgiving had entirely to do [TS]

  with this trail [TS]

haha if you cannot express this to my [TS]

family adequately that doesn't this [TS]

holiday was about they kept forgetting [TS]

yeah its force giving understand i'm [TS]

  ready John [TS]

so uh do you want to talk about first [TS]

impressions should we walk through the [TS]

very carefully selected you know 80 [TS]

seconds so obviously first impressions [TS]

this is opening ceremony statement go [TS]

ahead this is not what I expected from [TS]

this trail I don't know if I what I had [TS]

in my mind the trailer i had in my mind [TS]

this was not it not not going to bed i'm [TS]

just saying that this confounded my [TS]

expectations and what I trying to think [TS]

of what is it that I expected to be [TS]

different the trailer my mind has a lot [TS]

more black in it as in a scene i guess [TS]

yeah guess space scenes and the second [TS]

thing the trailer my mind had this does [TS]

not have is old familiar faces this is [TS]

all new faces and this is I think no [TS]

space seems right as far as we can tell [TS]

  now [TS]

well yeah it doesn't seem to be anything [TS]

that takes place in outer space is like [TS]

it like the matically in some ways I [TS]

felt like expecting something almost [TS]

more like epic and grandeur on scale [TS]

blow ya like starting with a whatever [TS]

you call that where the guy pops up on [TS]

  the screen [TS]

yeah it starts laying right that is [TS]

different from you know I mean even just [TS]

the episode 1 trailer very sort of [TS]

somber stately important and it's also [TS]

got that element of something that we've [TS]

kind of in some ways never really seen [TS]

in a Star Wars movie before which is [TS]

that like kind of like a like a jump you [TS]

know like making you jump right because [TS]

like it is like everything's calm and [TS]

peaceful but something going on and like [TS]

and like I actually physically jumped a [TS]

little bit because I was kind of likes [TS]

it or not but you have to know I'm [TS]

  really allowed to [TS]

oh yeah I had jacked up and also like [TS]

just a sudden appearance and everything [TS]

in the daytime to music and all that [TS]

it's it's very much set up to like [TS]

startled and it's clearly like very [TS]

tense very close shots like I felt the [TS]

that's something that we haven't really [TS]

seen and that my trlr only shot two sure [TS]

make sure that that might be trailer on [TS]

well i don't know i mean well maybe [TS]

their lingering on the sand so so that [TS]

shot with a guy popping up and he's [TS]

looking off camera and we don't see what [TS]

he sees and then the camera starts to [TS]

turn around him is very similar to the [TS]

shot in the pilot of lost where Jack [TS]

walks out onto the beach and you're [TS]

seeing him see the plane crash and then [TS]

very slowly it turns around and reveals [TS]

what he's looking at it which is this [TS]

spectacular destruction of a plane crash [TS]

on the beach and that's what it reminded [TS]

me and same director right that that's [TS]

what it reminded me of is that is there [TS]

and I kept waiting for it to pan around [TS]

and show me what what he sees [TS]

nope well looks like a sandy came here [TS]

to when was the last time we had a shaky [TS]

hand starchy's number is everything is [TS]

free you know you think especially in [TS]

the prequels and George Lucas is doing [TS]

everything like everything is very staid [TS]

and very like static like the camera [TS]

doesn't move a lot and that is like it's [TS]

some of the which is weird because [TS]

that's an encounter point to a lot of [TS]

stuff they did very early on in there in [TS]

the original trilogy we're moving like [TS]

the cameras rather than moving the [TS]

models a lot of the time was like made a [TS]

big difference in the way they shot the [TS]

special effects but the but the [TS]

character scenes were almost always very [TS]

conventional yeah they didn't have [TS]

motion control when they were shooting [TS]

arrows and for that emotion [TS]

troubleshooting Harrison Ford ship which [TS]

made the writing Star Wars the original [TS]

story children dynamic and it like right [TS]

now the interiors of the millennium [TS]

falcon you'd say shot shot people [TS]

sitting people standing talking like [TS]

even the scenes with like Luke you know [TS]

shooting that you know fighting the [TS]

little remote thing with a lightsaber [TS]

everything fairly static shots whereas [TS]

and then as soon as you got into the [TS]

space scenes they go into the trench [TS]

they're flying here that was so much [TS]

more dynamic which made by space seems [TS]

more exciting here in this thing [TS]

everything is like that even when they [TS]

just show that girl on the on that [TS]

speeder thing or whatever it's slow zoom [TS]

in on her face together a depression [TS]

before she takes off like rather than [TS]

just showing her on the things looking [TS]

some buttons are going at the cameras is [TS]

moving it's more like is a modern [TS]

filmmaking but yeah I taking the tools [TS]

that Lucas used only for model [TS]

then using them for everything which is [TS]

you know par for the course I think with [TS]

most movies these days including change [TS]

can absolutely i mean is can we expect [TS]

from the you know the advancements that [TS]

have been made in the last not just you [TS]

know 15 years or so but last 30 years [TS]

since we saw the original trilogy the [TS]

things i noted in that first shot that I [TS]

really so a that our character who i [TS]

believe is John boyega is wearing what [TS]

appears to be stormtrooper armor and [TS]

what I really like when you sort of flip [TS]

around to the back there is it is like [TS]

in a call out to the old stormtrooper [TS]

armor it's got the like 011 style thing [TS]

yeah it's like the black disc in like [TS]

there's the two vertical shots like that [TS]

to me is like okay we're so we're [TS]

screwed warsi like squarely in homage [TS]

  territory already [TS]

yeah one that I liked that too because [TS]

are always wanted to see us to a [TS]

stormtrooper with is with his helmet off [TS]

and in the in the prequels we end up [TS]

with a well they're all clones they're [TS]

all the same it's like well that's [TS]

really disappointing so I like here it's [TS]

like hey it's a dude in stormtrooper and [TS]

I mean maybe he's posing as a storm [TS]

trooper Maggie super-pulling Luke and [TS]

Han yeah that's the thing it's a thing [TS]

that's done i think it's also worth [TS]

mentioning that the very first face you [TS]

  see is african-american instant [TS]

follow-up we know John boyega is [TS]

  actually English not african-american [TS]

with yes I mean there's a lot of been a [TS]

lot of criticism of the casting of this [TS]

movie is just a bunch of white dudes [TS]

again but this is showing that star wars [TS]

is not just for suburban white kids [TS]

yeah I think that's got to be part of [TS]

the statement of this direction first [TS]

phases we see are both an [TS]

african-american man and a woman so I [TS]

think also that's that's important to [TS]

also a soccer ball droid because all of [TS]

the wall because because we need to [TS]

further the case of around robots they [TS]

don't they don't get enough screen time [TS]

is you know this is just a big fu [TS]

interstellar yeah i like the round like [TS]

the soccer ball soccer ball droid but [TS]

notice it more important than that then [TS]

their attempt to to show diversity here [TS]

is like I said these are all new faces [TS]

yes is this that there's not there's not [TS]

a Luke Skywalker is not a hot solo there [TS]

is not a princess leia they are not in [TS]

this trail I mean obviously they'll be [TS]

  showing up later [TS]

probably but that's a statement that [TS]

  statement saying [TS]

this is a movie and it's a new movie and [TS]

people you know maybe in it but that's [TS]

not what the movie is about this this is [TS]

where did confront my expectations if I [TS]

  do [TS]

guess what was in it would be a reveal [TS]

at the very end of like Luke's face yes [TS]

that was expected i was totally [TS]

expecting that to be the last shot is [TS]

like boot throwing back the hood or [TS]

  something like that [TS]

a bearded Luke Skywalker nope not at all [TS]

nope but like then there's something [TS]

okay in some senses that works then [TS]

because like now I something else to [TS]

look forward to like there's all this [TS]

cool stuff but I didn't see anything [TS]

with like from ok I didn't see any faces [TS]

that were open but that's exactly what [TS]

they put in it like if they were going [TS]

to tease with the teaser you're right [TS]

you save that big one of the end you [TS]

save like a winking han solo or what you [TS]

say that again and they did not and it's [TS]

not because so much because they're [TS]

going to save it for later like oh my [TS]

god you're gonna see this it's a [TS]

statement about what they think this [TS]

movie is its yeah I grieve it so far as [TS]

far as we can tell they are presenting [TS]

this movie as a movie about the people [TS]

that you see so far because if you can [TS]

do a trailer you don't show you the main [TS]

character so ancillary character scenery [TS]

establishing shots a few ships then you [TS]

have to say for the very end and by the [TS]

way years before we were waiting for [TS]

Indiana Jones or whatever you know [TS]

whoever your main character is and this [TS]

is I think these characters are all main [TS]

characters they're not a hurry [TS]

characters i think that's what it what [TS]

I've from the IMA i will say I've tried [TS]

to avoid spoilers like you know and i [TS]

know john is also working on putting [TS]

  spoilers [TS]

yeah but I like I think you're right and [TS]

i think from the little bits that I've [TS]

heard i think it is true that like we're [TS]

going to be focusing on new characters [TS]

that the old cast is going to be more of [TS]

a supporting role which you know i think [TS]

makes sense at this point like it's a [TS]

different it's a different world i mean [TS]

that wewe it's unclear as of yet how far [TS]

in the future this is from the last from [TS]

Return of the Jedi you know if we're [TS]

going strictly on a one-to-one ratio you [TS]

know it's been 30 years right so things [TS]

are going to have changed and those [TS]

characters are all gonna be a lot older [TS]

and it may be a little bit harder for [TS]

them to carry a movie but i think it's [TS]

supporting characters you know there's a [TS]

lot of there's a lot of possibility and [TS]

that for them that we instill sandy [TS]

yeah i was going to say that a queen is [TS]

one of the old characters that we get to [TS]

see in this trailer and and [TS]

I extrapolating plot elements from [TS]

trailers is always dangerous although [TS]

sometimes you discover that that the [TS]

entire plot is revealed that I don't [TS]

think that's the case here but clearly [TS]

part of the story is about something [TS]

happening on tattooing so far as i can [TS]

tell because we've got the disturbed [TS]

stormtrooper guy in the desert [TS]

perhaps you know i don't know i'm not [TS]

saying that there's a plank their [TS]

spaceship crash later point president [TS]

was good that was my thought though I [TS]

which everyone anyway why else would you [TS]

be in the desert and his stormtroopers [TS]

and disheveled with your hat with your [TS]

helmet off myself what is going on [TS]

expression on your face and then we see [TS]

the woman jumping on her little speeder [TS]

block thing which i kinda like that it's [TS]

not you know it's like a lady like a [TS]

landspeeder on its side kinda I think [TS]

that it's not sleek looking different [TS]

motorcycle know it looks very functional [TS]

and very industrial and she's shooting [TS]

off into the tattoo in distance right so [TS]

something is going on Tatooine that's [TS]

the first message of this right and then [TS]

where it's all it's all head fake and [TS]

this is just another Sandy Point this [TS]

could be just the opening scene and they [TS]

go off into space that presently i will [TS]

say sure and then at the end of the the [TS]

millennium fawlcon bit also seems to be [TS]

you know a tattoo because there's a ride [TS]

the super sandy but the x-wings are not [TS]

intending now lot of water haha why [TS]

there's there's water and mountains and [TS]

that's the into dark Death Star Trek [TS]

into darkness shot he's like he's like [TS]

I'm really a fan of flying spaceships [TS]

overwater you know I give it a thumbs up [TS]

share ago i liked it i love ya I mean we [TS]

never saw a lot of about these [TS]

spaceships flying the atmosphere but [TS]

we'll just yeah well we never really saw [TS]

a lot of it like you know in in [TS]

atmosphere flights of like you know [TS]

starfighters we saw that the [TS]

snowspeeders on Hoth but we never really [TS]

see you know a lot of the atmosphere and [TS]

I mean you see the x-wings take off from [TS]

right and Avan then you also see I mean [TS]

obviously that mine Falcon takes off [TS]

from Tatooine obviously liked it there [TS]

so we know it's possible we know what [TS]

happens but here you know at the end we [TS]

have the money Falcon doing its thing [TS]

with contrails right well let's not skip [TS]

around too much because i want to get to [TS]

that all right getting my seen others [TS]

all right ok so disturbed [TS]

this is john boyega write that yeah [TS]

generally get disturbed by with hula [TS]

  stormtrooper without his hat [TS]

he's in the desert was never had it's [TS]

too hot for that outfit in the Dewey [TS]

  well least it's white [TS]

so it's reflective but yeah not yet it's [TS]

made out of made out of plastic or [TS]

whatever so you know i hope i hope he [TS]

has a water supply or he's gonna be in [TS]

  trouble [TS]

I'm worried so I was it a soccer ball [TS]

with a dread head down sonadow there's [TS]

nothing more is it all one thing [TS]

yeah that is the new world cup while [TS]

knows when it's been kidding i think [TS]

it's like magnetically coupled in the [TS]

way or you know magically magic you know [TS]

technology that thing which is which is [TS]

a bouncy type effect like you know this [TS]

is a modern movie we can do this in a [TS]

modern movie in a you know in the [TS]

seventies you couldn't really with tapas [TS]

you have to let you have to stop motion [TS]

and I would be crazy and then we have [TS]

like in the background almost kind of [TS]

like a junkyard with the cadres your [TS]

  engines [TS]

yeah they do look I podracer engines I [TS]

agreed i thought they did look like that [TS]

so we did like a brief tip of the hat to [TS]

the 2x cool and yeah well they just that [TS]

sound effect was like when the the girl [TS]

takes off in a speeder there's that lots [TS]

of absolute silence and it's about being [TS]

before let me get this theory we have [TS]

are our favorite sound effect the [TS]

imperial probe droid mix then I believe [TS]

in the very very beginning who you mean [TS]

with the drawer with the Detroiter with [TS]

  the now like that [TS]

yeah this is right after the Stinger [TS]

  when he stands up [TS]

yeah in the background you get I'm gonna [TS]

what sounds like imperial probe droid [TS]

  imperial code whatever [TS]

oh oh yeah well it was that better wind [TS]

it sounds a little windy to meet you [TS]

know but I know an imperial probe droid [TS]

but I know what I'm good [TS]

it's like I was like a whistling wind [TS]

yeah I mean there's a lot of lot of [TS]

dropping who knows if this is obviously [TS]

the mix of the movie at that point it's [TS]

probably different but yeah totally [TS]

they're ok so anything more about the [TS]

soccer ball droid other than its cool [TS]

the question whether this is like going [TS]

to be a recurring character or this is [TS]

just one of those passerby because this [TS]

is not a droid moving by in the [TS]

  background [TS]

he's got the whole friggin close shot is [TS]

a correct yes the glamour shot here kind [TS]

of any kind of been to Lourdes there [TS]

yeah or creating a character belongs to [TS]

make side we may get killed [TS]

yeah that he makes our to style noises [TS]

yeah yeah we don't mean indented to [TS]

couple on to John's point we don't even [TS]

not only see any of the human cast we [TS]

don't see any of the no c-3po r2d2 [TS]

Chewbacca like none of the alien robot [TS]

cast either who you know pursuing book [TS]

maybe aged a little better i don't that [TS]

may be okay for the for the little [TS]

bouncy soccer ball droid take a look at [TS]

his antenna good antenna wobble [TS]

uh-huh yeah yeah yeahs aggressive that's [TS]

  the physics physics happens [TS]

yeah it's nice I don't like these are [TS]

tui he's got the the red circle around [TS]

the the top and his little camera and [TS]

stuff look it very much is a star wars [TS]

droid this soccer ball droid this [TS]

my life and learn more as I go so thank [TS]

you so much to the people at lynda.com [TS]

for supporting the uncomfortable we [TS]

talking to you guys think i was living [TS]

listening to the music a little bit i'm [TS]

trying to determine if this is just [TS]

generic trailer placeholder music or if [TS]

this is actually John Williams it sounds [TS]

a little john williams II just listening [TS]

to it is very staccato it's not [TS]

necessarily like that we've heard from [TS]

you know star wars in the past but [TS]

there's an element of it it's clearly [TS]

you look very low key or casserole it's [TS]

less electronic I can't tell but like [TS]

I'm just curious because a lot of times [TS]

trailers use placeholder music or they [TS]

use like and music I think I feel like I [TS]

don't know if they could [TS]

yeah yeah that seems hard to get away [TS]

with in something this iconic like that [TS]

is so tied to its music so i'm wondering [TS]

if this is an actual like early cut up [TS]

some star wars music or not it might [TS]

have scored the trailer but i think yeah [TS]

clearly just you know true teaser [TS]

trailer music like sure don't think of [TS]

any themes in this know there's that [TS]

there is a it has a little more depth [TS]

upon listening to it than a lot of than [TS]

it might otherwise have I feel like but [TS]

  yeah I don't know [TS]

alright we have a flickr ii scenes of [TS]

stormtroopers in a line like and they [TS]

seem to be exiting their craft there [TS]

they have different helmets then yes [TS]

these are not your these are not your [TS]

dad stormtroopers yeah a little more [TS]

modernized little sleeker the better air [TS]

vents little continuation of the I [TS]

  section [TS]

and like any way they look cool it is [TS]

but it has been fascinating to watch the [TS]

evolution of you know clone troopers [TS]

from the early episodes through the [TS]

clone troopers series through like Star [TS]

Wars rebels if you've watched any of the [TS]

that show it all has like slightly [TS]

different through the original trilogy [TS]

  stormtroopers now through these [TS]

  strippers [TS]

it is fascinating to watch it adds like [TS]

a continuum in some ways it's like [TS]

watching like Apple referred you know [TS]

read the iphone it's like it's still [TS]

recognizably a stormtrooper but every [TS]

year it's like a little bit different a [TS]

little bit likes their slightly [TS]

different flourishes here and there and [TS]

it's weird because they had to work back [TS]

they had they started with one and then [TS]

work backwards in one direction and [TS]

forwards in the other and weird when [TS]

they went backwards they the look I mean [TS]

  obviously moving backwards star [TS]

basically Boba Fett's helmet right so [TS]

that is but that is a very different [TS]

kind of I don't know if you'd call like [TS]

Art Deco or victorian or something like [TS]

that to the you know New Hope which is [TS]

very industrial tube-based and now [TS]

moving forward not going back to art [TS]

deco but trying to be more sleep like [TS]

this is like the electric car version of [TS]

the s2000 is that you know the 2,000 [TS]

version of the stormtrooper helmet [TS]

everything obviously it's weird because [TS]

like they have to fit into a timeline in [TS]

the star wars universe as and there was [TS]

this time ever and so on so forth [TS]

obviously fit into our university what [TS]

they actually what they actually fit [TS]

into is the the fashion trends of the [TS]

times of the movies were made which is [TS]

not the same as the time periods media [TS]

so it's it's it's weird but yeah I think [TS]

I think and I think they're not too [TS]

divergent they are much more like return [TS]

of the jedi stormtrooper and yes then [TS]

and even return the gentleman Empire you [TS]

got the snowtrooper Hamlet was looking [TS]

at us and then you have the forest [TS]

whatever that biker Scouts right which [TS]

also looked more modern compared to [TS]

those things but yeah right and so that [TS]

this is flickering shaky-cam they're [TS]

presented as soldiers they have weapons [TS]

with menacing looking red leds on them [TS]

and if you see if you do you a freeze [TS]

frame on one of those with like little [TS]

scopes that are very reminiscent of both [TS]

the original stormtroopers and Han [TS]

  Solo's pistol [TS]

yep got a little scope there know what [TS]

they use the scope so I don't know [TS]

because I never hid anything but you [TS]

know huh well they're too busy staring [TS]

down the scopes and trying to think [TS]

that's the problem and a big opening of [TS]

like a troop transport ship shown from [TS]

leg level a shot that would not be in a [TS]

help any of the Lucas Star Wars [TS]

and as much more of a modern movie [TS]

conceit yam from the legs down you know [TS]

  there's something there's something [TS]

going on out there there's like wind or [TS]

rain media and around yet another lash [TS]

they just entering into a space station [TS]

you know who knows looks at it looks [TS]

there's no steering outdoors like [TS]

they're landing on a planet somewhere [TS]

but i hope they don't crash in the [TS]

desert is all nice and icy rain blowing [TS]

sideways yeah it does look like rain I [TS]

re yeah it could be four or smoke or [TS]

something so it's funny John i had the [TS]

same thought about the industrial design [TS]

of the stormtroopers in that it reminded [TS]

me and I felt this way about when Star [TS]

Trek did enterprise and some other [TS]

examples of this is when you go back in [TS]

time and you're trapped in your own [TS]

continuity that the prequels was like [TS]

you know they got everything they do [TS]

have to solve for the original trilogy [TS]

everything they do has to lead to that [TS]

point in it and it's so constricting to [TS]

do that and i look at this I'm like hey [TS]

they get to innovate and like they use [TS]

the original trilogy as a starting point [TS]

to go forward and that feels so much [TS]

more freeing then having to work toward [TS]

something you always that like I always [TS]

sit around thinking about like that [TS]

control seen the the control room in the [TS]

first death star in a new hope right [TS]

where all the flashing lights and like [TS]

very much like a 1960s 1970s era [TS]

computer like a tiny little CRT screen [TS]

and all these little flickery blinking [TS]

lights and you're like how are they ever [TS]

going to explain how you went from like [TS]

episode 1 levels of Technology with like [TS]

all that stuff too like yeah you know [TS]

what really makes a lot of sense [TS]

random blinking lights like that to me [TS]

he really are tracking the same problem [TS]

yes that's what they could they envision [TS]

the future as rather than screens [TS]

everywhere just more buttons with lights [TS]

and so the whole thing is buttons with [TS]

lights and it worked you're moving [TS]

forward right it's right what if you [TS]

haven't but not if you work backwards [TS]

then you're like right on the 7-3 did [TS]

when they did the reboot right you have [TS]

to make ya bridge of that enterprise has [TS]

to sort of split the difference [TS]

like look we need to have a lot of [TS]

buttons with lights on the right but [TS]

then they kind of went this interesting [TS]

because what they did there was they [TS]

went with kind of a a sixties retro vibe [TS]

with lots of polished chrome and at the [TS]

handles and everything right that which [TS]

was a nod to the [TS]

to the period that the original one was [TS]

made and making a statement that this is [TS]

actually the fashion trend of the time [TS]

that the enterprise's for as being [TS]

bitten and semicircles alive this is [TS]

what's in fashion just devices devices [TS]

listen fashions but start checking for [TS]

God's is they start to get the added [TS]

problem of also being built out of our [TS]

own universe right so we know where [TS]

things are right now in our lives and [TS]

yet star trek is supposed to be the [TS]

future and yet like when the IRA my [TS]

always think of some episodes of ds9 [TS]

with a time-travel back to like you know [TS]

the 2,000 something everyone is using [TS]

CRT monitors and it's like what we [TS]

already know it's patently false from [TS]

where we are in this so youryour bounded [TS]

on every side in Star Trek which makes [TS]

it a lot harder at least with the the JJ [TS]

Abrams reboot by doing it in the [TS]

alternate reality and saying oh well 20 [TS]

years ago the course of history changed [TS]

that's that's like part of the we I [TS]

think we came out we can revisit this [TS]

now and show you that you know the the [TS]

captain kirk's enterprise now looks more [TS]

modern because it's totally different [TS]

it's it's not like it was before they [TS]

invented screams it looks like a madman [TS]

modern looks like that time our past [TS]

envisioned with with sort of modern [TS]

acuity i like it turns its [TS]

high-definition everything is in color [TS]

instead of black and white but still [TS]

things look kind of weird and 60s [TS]

fashion and fashion that is out of step [TS]

  with today [TS]

so what I'll and the star wars ones have [TS]

here is that not only do we have to go [TS]

forward and not be bound by anything [TS]

because we're just projecting forward [TS]

but a calamitous change of fortunes [TS]

happened yeah and the last movie so [TS]

everything is up for grabs your not even [TS]

bound to any kind of plot wise [TS]

continuity because complete upheaval the [TS]

Empire was sort of running the show and [TS]

now the Empire is this crushed and the [TS]

jennifer is on and now they're kind of [TS]

back but there's one of them and so you [TS]

have complete freedom to go in any [TS]

direction because it's a power vacuum [TS]

yeah well that's the sort of central [TS]

question that comes to me you know out [TS]

of watching this trailer is we thought [TS]

we saw what happened after return the [TS]

Jedi right like we thought okay there's [TS]

a party there were fireworks if they [TS]

wanted everything was great yeah you [TS]

know especially if you want to [TS]

acknowledge the special edition you know [TS]

where everybody's celebrating a whole [TS]

different planet and everyone on corazon [TS]

is this carrier whatever actually [TS]

hearing of the you are happy [TS]

all that matters yeah but but you know [TS]

at the same time now we have a question [TS]

of well there was a huge infrastructure [TS]

in place there were presumably other [TS]

people who were in charge of various [TS]

elements of the Empire there were there [TS]

are remnants there are fragments that [TS]

are left over are they just going to be [TS]

like alright i guess we lost so you can [TS]

go Battlestar here and say this is going [TS]

to be in iraq war analogy where there [TS]

there were factions that we kept being [TS]

kept in check by the by the Empire by [TS]

the dictator right so you have like the [TS]

huts and all the organized crime and [TS]

smugglers and all that stuff who are [TS]

essentially being tamp down by gigantic [TS]

star destroyers and Darth Vader with the [TS]

force in the Emperor and all that other [TS]

stuff and now that they're gone sort of [TS]

sectarian violence 'as him free to break [TS]

out because the you know the rebellion [TS]

is not equipped at this point to govern [TS]

in with the same authority that the an [TS]

entire day and there we know there are [TS]

plenty of factions within the star wars [TS]

universe that are are power hungry and [TS]

we'll see this is their opportunity [TS]

right so is there is there [TS]

re-establishment of the Empire do the [TS]

Empire never really go away and we [TS]

didn't like that victory was not as [TS]

absolute well as we first thought when [TS]

you see the stormtroopers and that my [TS]

very first thought was why are there [TS]

stormtroopers right whatever their store [TS]

marker there was so many stormtroopers [TS]

though they didn't all blow up in the [TS]

Death Star's guys like they've got the [TS]

air around right they got everything out [TS]

guys like they're they're gonna go to [TS]

work in the morning and and you know [TS]

that probably nobody farming oh wait a [TS]

second i guess i don't have one and then [TS]

maybe maybe as a you know we're totally [TS]

spitballing here but maybe when you're [TS]

taking over when you overthrow the [TS]

Emperor if you you give you the [TS]

infrastructure yeah right maybe you say [TS]

okay well we're now going back to being [TS]

the old republic and hey you [TS]

stormtroopers you were always part of [TS]

the you know the even back to the [TS]

Republic you were part of the army [TS]

  yeah we're we're we're reinstating the [TS]

Senate and you guys are going to be in [TS]

the army and fight on stormtroopers but [TS]

don't shoot us because you miss right [TS]

well and so then it becomes you open up [TS]

the parable for well you know if you [TS]

just step into the shoes of the dictator [TS]

are you any better than they are and do [TS]

you sort of like this power continue to [TS]

corrupt essentially it's like wow okay [TS]

now we're in charge we're going to force [TS]

it enforce our new order on everything [TS]

wait a second tested the this is [TS]

  supposedly a [TS]

message of the the prequels that you [TS]

know the Jedi had become arrogant and [TS]

disengaged and whatever so that's [TS]

problem solved so just heard expertly [TS]

that point right so it's not going to be [TS]

any certain big ball of Jedi who are so [TS]

aloof and disengaged and feel like they [TS]

don't think that i was there i was just [TS]

looking he presumably as more wise than [TS]

that and the Senate was dissolved but [TS]

even when the senate was in session in [TS]

the prequels didn't look like the [TS]

world's best governing body it was you [TS]

know very easily influenced that they [TS]

had guns in there was just that it's not [TS]

great so if you were to propose the new [TS]

system of government who you know you [TS]

had like it almost look like it when you [TS]

had almost like a mix between royalty [TS]

and sort of pseudo democracy is if we [TS]

don't even have a good model for what we [TS]

want to go back to because all the [TS]

things that we that happened in the past [TS]

we don't want to go back to them because [TS]

they weren't they weren't very good work [TS]

right the UH the next shot in the [TS]

trailer is our our friend hopping on her [TS]

block speeder thing looking over her [TS]

shoulder and and then take them off [TS]

darth maul's lightsaber handle is right [TS]

to her left either but through properly [TS]

use or yeah yeah we believe i did not [TS]

catch that it could be properly use [TS]

because they do a lot of that one [TS]

ecstatically on into like up pole [TS]

yeah it's a lifesaver thanks maybe it's [TS]

towered in powered by lightsaber you [TS]

turn it on the inside of the pole and it [TS]

like heats it up and that's weird [TS]

because it's not in the next shot the [TS]

wide shot you look at the next wide shot [TS]

where you actually see her flying off [TS]

its not there she could be an entirely [TS]

different ship at that point [TS]

yeah this is your heart looks similar [TS]

her things are down her little goggles [TS]

are down at that point and yahoo nose [TS]

right and I think everybody's shit but [TS]

it could be continuity error or could be [TS]

two entirely different scenes one of the [TS]

sticks called the show that to the same [TS]

people have the gassy sticks [TS]

yeah there you go yeah that's not that [TS]

is not one but it is covered with [TS]

tattooing style messy tape and onion you [TS]

know enough if i'm not mistaken i think [TS]

this is the actress Daisy Ridley who was [TS]

basically an unknown before coming into [TS]

  this [TS]

my guess is that that uh that block [TS]

speeder that she's on its attempt shot [TS]

  and then [TS]

haven't added all the all the stuff to [TS]

it yet again while I although it looks [TS]

pretty deep it's got a nice again like [TS]

we're going back to that like it's nice [TS]

it's lived in its beat down as we talked [TS]

its industrial ya know it looks like [TS]

  she's driving a furnace basically she's [TS]

  also looking behind her [TS]

yanmega escape both both of these actors [TS]

who was working far have serious [TS]

expressions on their face they are [TS]

concerned they are serious they're you [TS]

know they're in crisis they are not [TS]

smiling into the camera and I don't look [TS]

at me I'm a movie if I had to if I had [TS]

to you know sum up all this in one were [TS]

to be tension like especially the [TS]

combination of music and everything [TS]

there is a clear like tension being like [TS]

ratcheted up here as we go along [TS]

something is coming as we haven't talked [TS]

about the voice-over yet but something [TS]

  has a way [TS]

copy the force she's going off toward a [TS]

some sort of in camp meant settlement [TS]

something I mean I is that if it this is [TS]

Tatooine that's practically a city that [TS]

she's got the funding prequel noises [TS]

podracer kind of style because with with [TS]

the prequels been burning a lot more of [TS]

kind of deep thrumming rhythmic deep [TS]

thrumming for engine noises and then the [TS]

Padres and everything you get a little [TS]

bit of that for her refrigerator driving [TS]

she's driving is the refrigerating side [TS]

up a lot of dust there inside the [TS]

refrigerator Indiana Jones spoilers and [TS]

hanging out and we have the guy who I [TS]

sort of God looks like [TS]

zev from Empire Strikes Back yeah he's [TS]

in his face is beat up inside his helmet [TS]

his helmet is beat up outside his face [TS]

so it kind of looks like it so it's like [TS]

that it's a new again we've got the new [TS]

styling of like it's clearly a rebel [TS]

alliance and Caroline symbols all over [TS]

  him [TS]

yeah just in case you missed it we can [TS]

stamp on his helmet when a little best [TS]

again got the equipment but that's that [TS]

that helmet is not it is again evocative [TS]

the stuff that we saw in the original [TS]

trilogy but it's not the same as even [TS]

orange of the flight suit is like [TS]

different muted it's a little bit more [TS]

done it looks like it's been you know [TS]

again it has been washed in a while but [TS]

he's got the little buttons on his chest [TS]

  too [TS]

you're like the the same little like [TS]

like sport thing looks like the stick [TS]

for the x-wing there is pretty similar [TS]

to the originals like the inside the [TS]

cockpit looks very very easy even got [TS]

the targeting computer often love ya now [TS]

like everything is there looks like okay [TS]

this is an x-wing we dusted off the [TS]

  mothballs [TS]

yeah he is also very serious-looking he [TS]

is is not is not on a pleasure flight is [TS]

there and get people engaged in some [TS]

kind of military exercise not i cannot [TS]

tell if that is I cannot tell if that's [TS]

Oscar Isaac but that would be my that [TS]

was he looks kinda like oscar isaac was [TS]

hard sell the helmet on [TS]

and I definitely like how scratched his [TS]

helmet is that's the lived in Star Wars [TS]

world that we amber but these are my new [TS]

whatever they call that don't know what [TS]

the name that they said they were acting [TS]

up trying and trying to avoid spoilers [TS]

and by the way if star wars fans [TS]

listening to this and saying why don't [TS]

these people know all the answers these [TS]

questions this has been established but [TS]

it's because we're avoiding spoilers [TS]

yeah sure we these things all could have [TS]

been answered by Jay Bruce himself we [TS]

just don't know because we're going to [TS]

spoil well I mean they looked i mean [TS]

they look pretty I'd there's a little [TS]

bit but not for ones that we saw i don't [TS]

know if you saw that was like that with [TS]

the Arctic Circle engine that split in [TS]

half and with the tooth is the scissor [TS]

wings where the front edge of the wing [TS]

goes down and the back edge of the wing [TS]

  goes up [TS]

right right although it's interesting is [TS]

that one in the clothes shot looks like [TS]

almost like it's more that you have a [TS]

the wings curve a little more almost at [TS]

the end I don't know turnouts hard on [TS]

yourself a slight slight refinements [TS]

their blue which is different from the [TS]

ones we saw in the original trilogy [TS]

which mostly had like sort of red trim [TS]

yeah but they look very very soon they [TS]

look more similar than different to the [TS]

and it's an x-wing try again we will be [TS]

looks like it's over i'm not to think [TS]

about the wisdom of taking a circular [TS]

tunnel that and presumably held [TS]

something turbine like it's splitting it [TS]

in half hijacked again will invoke [TS]

interstellar to say that the fan blades [TS]

warp out of existence then back at up [TS]

anyway this rocket engines on the back [TS]

  moving along [TS]

yeah he's skimming over water so nice [TS]

like water like you know wakes being [TS]

thrown up behind them some lovely [TS]

mountain scenery a a world that looks [TS]

infinitely more realistic them like half [TS]

the world's we've seen it starts oh yeah [TS]

that the tree background there i suspect [TS]

is based on the hills not basically [TS]

right where I live because the people [TS]

who do these effects live around here [TS]

and that look that mountain looks [TS]

awfully familiar to me but that's sad i [TS]

like it i could look out my window and [TS]

see you next wing I again some some [TS]

great sound effects you know like i say [TS]

like zip along the water they're like [TS]

just good i love the the sound of star [TS]

wars in which we can really do an [TS]

individual spoke Don is just so it's so [TS]

iconic and so evocative like everything [TS]

has a very particular sound and when [TS]

those things line up well and there's a [TS]

lot of stuff in this trailer was like [TS]

yes that thing is it's the same thing [TS]

but we can tell because it sounds the [TS]

  same [TS]

and maybe a little what they call them [TS]

the little things that poked out from [TS]

the wings on the x-wing I don't know [TS]

what that you're putting all those [TS]

things are thinner and part of the [TS]

reason they're thinner is because only [TS]

something you can make them on a plastic [TS]

model in 1977 yeah before they become [TS]

too delicate and the model to keep [TS]

accidentally breaking or bending as I [TS]

can order to make them a little bit like [TS]

  practicalities of model building [TS]

dictated a lot of what the original [TS]

starships look like we don't have those [TS]

  limitations anymore [TS]

ncg basis you know again avoiding [TS]

spoilers but I have seen enough to know [TS]

the JJ but full-size one of these in [TS]

full size is not that then because you [TS]

know full sides still plenty of the [TS]

strong and small-sized know models [TS]

needed this around a computer so you [TS]

have that problem solved and what it [TS]

means is they look they look different [TS]

that obviously looks like an x-wing but [TS]

it's different enough that you can say [TS]

this is a new version and it's a new [TS]

version that does not look like a does [TS]

not look like a reverse the prequels [TS]

looks like even more industrial and [TS]

cobbled together and weird and dirty and [TS]

yeah looks good i get from the thumbs-up [TS]

read all right next what's next [TS]

Chris Pine walking through the woods [TS]

also haha sure it's a special cameo from [TS]

Christmas so we got some snow it's a [TS]

it's a snow stark we're in the dark part [TS]

now right this is the dark dark snowy [TS]

forest and a mysterious hooded figure [TS]

yeah i mean like that snowy woods looks [TS]

very generic to me how many different [TS]

movies everything this generic dark [TS]

snowy woods and a lot and doesn't look [TS]

particularly Star Wars you to me it [TS]

doesn't use our words either i agree [TS]

it's close to like what again we're [TS]

focused on the close shot a lot of the [TS]

star wars shots I feel like we've got [TS]

like you know the three-quarter shop [TS]

we've got the dynamic camera again right [TS]

we're following this guy and so [TS]

everything feels a little more [TS]

claustrophobic and a little tighter and [TS]

we don't see the sky at all the cameras [TS]

pitch kind of down to which I feel like [TS]

is a slight again slightly unusual for [TS]

Star Wars movie where everything is very [TS]

much on a similar like sort of flat [TS]

plane also some real-time real-time [TS]

follow-up from listeners listener erik [TS]

christensen wrote on Twitter to say the [TS]

t-shaped lightsaber was predicted by the [TS]

uncomfortable in the Phantom Menace up [TS]

sewed and they were right to Joe it [TS]

  looks silly [TS]

well so here's it talking about the [TS]

lightsaber right so what once they got [TS]

pulled out the lightsaber you see his [TS]

big thick leather belt it looks a little [TS]

bit more star wars ii any sort of [TS]

hunters over but the key point about [TS]

this lightsaber is not so much the silly [TS]

things which seem like a very bad idea [TS]

that very bad idea in terms of not [TS]

cutting off your thighs and other parts [TS]

of your body but the blade itself has [TS]

gone with a more ragged edge of flame [TS]

yeah I don't again another limitation of [TS]

the original effects of you but they're [TS]

spinning stick with beads on it or the [TS]

simplified computer one with CG now we [TS]

could do sort of pseudo lightning around [TS]

yeah it's crying lightning edges it [TS]

looks it looks more sinister instead of [TS]

merely being a red version of what's its [TS]

equivalent of one of those like wavy [TS]

like like knives you know when they see [TS]

like the ceremonial daggers that have [TS]

like a weighty blade yeah it's got like [TS]

kind of that going on that's serrated [TS]

edges yeah and and the things on the [TS]

site and in general I think i'm [TS]

basically not it in favor of surprise [TS]

  lightsaber configuration reveals huh [TS]

like it isn't as exciting Darth Maul [TS]

style to have the thing come out the [TS]

other end I feel like that ship has [TS]

sailed and you don't need to do any tone [TS]

the other thing i noticed here that i [TS]

thought was interesting was that the [TS]

blade in addition to sort of that like [TS]

more ragged morph lineage it also looks [TS]

a lot longer to me like if you just sort [TS]

of look at look at your landlords like [TS]

  one can play more [TS]

it's basically a anymore which is again [TS]

why I think the crossguard in there is [TS]

because it makes it look very much like [TS]

a tour like a Braveheart style gigantic [TS]

sword i agree i don't see it like on the [TS]

one hand i understand that we hate [TS]

crossguard would be super handy a [TS]

lightsaber prevent some cutting your [TS]

hand off at the same time since the [TS]

crossguard doesn't extend like riding at [TS]

all still says that part where you would [TS]

actually catch another lightsaber blade [TS]

you would just get the crossguard cut [TS]

through which is going to happen exactly [TS]

as darth maul's to have to have my favor [TS]

  was inevitably cut-in-half inevitably [TS]

some of those numbers are going away in [TS]

this movie I i had two thoughts when I [TS]

saw this one is that this they may be [TS]

dismissed because they they activate [TS]

later it's that this is like that for [TS]

dramatic back he needs to cut he needs [TS]

to cut down a tree so that's like tree [TS]

chopping mode where it protects you from [TS]

the bits the wood flying off they just [TS]

get vaporized and the other thought was [TS]

that it's the exhaust port that this is [TS]

a badly constructed lightsaber and I [TS]

just laid out the sides i do like the [TS]

idea that it's badly constructed because [TS]

that those fit was sort of the ragged [TS]

edges of it is like this is someone [TS]

who's like you didn't know what they [TS]

were doing and cobble together a [TS]

lightsaber and we're just like is not an [TS]

  elegant weapon now [TS]

not for a more civilized age is and the [TS]

weird thing about as it is for for [TS]

something that's supposed to evoke a [TS]

claymore it has a very thin handle [TS]

because the other direction that [TS]

could've gone it's like final fantasy [TS]

where he's he's wielding a butter knife [TS]

the size of his body [TS]

yeah it could have been like a longer [TS]

flatter blade or something but yeah it [TS]

does look it looks looks odd I'm [TS]

reserving judgment something I mean we [TS]

only seen from the back that the [TS]

voice-over which we haven't talked too [TS]

much about has bad Darth Maul vibe to it [TS]

because that we need to have a gravelly [TS]

voice evil guy talking when voiceover [TS]

this looks like an evil guys wearing [TS]

hoodies but as I said Chris Pine he [TS]

looks like he walks like Chris Pine like [TS]

it's just my guess is Adam driver but [TS]

  again [TS]

yeah because she looks kind of tall [TS]

lanky yep probably though and yeah and i [TS]

think this is the point where we get the [TS]

second part of the voice over to where [TS]

he's just a delight because we've been [TS]

in the dark like a dark forces rising [TS]

right the the the for his dark side now [TS]

I was really expecting I don't you guys [TS]

be says like the you know the dark side [TS]

and then I was expecting the other party [TS]

like the end of it to be has returned [TS]

and yet when we get the dark side and [TS]

the light on the line I'll see and it [TS]

never left so the whole idea i don't [TS]

worry about the plot of this movie but [TS]

the force awakens is you know whenever I [TS]

tell any non star wars fan about the [TS]

do-it movie who knows anything that was [TS]

like well wasn't then forced already [TS]

wake like wasn't awake and I'm gonna I [TS]

mean I returned it was called return of [TS]

the jedi he there we go Jedi are back [TS]

  now right yeah [TS]

music was like kind of a Highlander [TS]

thing we're at the end of Return of the [TS]

Jedi now that he is you know Darth Vader [TS]

sacrifice himself and brought balance to [TS]

the force if you want to go with the [TS]

prequel interpretation like you think [TS]

like nobody has any I know you don't do [TS]

you think that all the force powers [TS]

Norway well silver for the force awakens [TS]

  in like here's here's a possible [TS]

headcanon interpretation like so you [TS]

have you have the the [TS]

noxious aloof Jedi or whatever and they [TS]

were a mess and they went away and there [TS]

was none and then Luke came back there [TS]

was a dark side was dominating the [TS]

galaxy and Luke fought back against that [TS]

he's only one now kind of like the force [TS]

is out there as a it is unconstrained is [TS]

free to flow through various people [TS]

without the constraints of sort of [TS]

government or like Boy Scouts of America [TS]

controlling like he's like there's no [TS]

there's the organizational structure so [TS]

if you just happened to be a guy on a [TS]

planet who happens to be four strong [TS]

because of you know who your parents [TS]

were and you cobbled together this [TS]

crazy-ass lightsaber like the force [TS]

awakens as in where does the forest go [TS]

presumably it is present in certain [TS]

people and if there's no organizing [TS]

principle to organize them whether it's [TS]

the master-slave set thing or the the [TS]

light side council thing then there [TS]

could be a whole bunch of people in the [TS]

universe with the force I and what [TS]

happens to them like they just become so [TS]

order taking leaders like like season 7 [TS]

Buffy now we're like all the potential [TS]

Slayers are all out there on their own [TS]

so here's here's my theory about this [TS]

which is which again I have no spoiler [TS]

information either it's purely a theory [TS]

is that the force has a kind of a net [TS]

asset of natural concentrations and so [TS]

with the destroy the death of darth [TS]

vader and all the Jedi being on the [TS]

Empire Emperor being gone that that what [TS]

happens is the force is sort of like in [TS]

its dormant it's like it doesn't have [TS]

its big concentrations it's just sort of [TS]

spread thin and then what's happening [TS]

here is now it's starting to spring back [TS]

it's starting to become you know [TS]

manifest more in people and and it's [TS]

like it's a very mythic it's a very like [TS]

like magic in Game of Thrones or [TS]

something right where it's like well [TS]

there was a lot of it and then it kind [TS]

of faded and now it's coming back which [TS]

is a great way to kick off a new series [TS]

right is to say well that force hasn't [TS]

been around that much but now it's back [TS]

and about my feeling when the light side [TS]

was around if you were for sensitive the [TS]

Jedi would find you right because they [TS]

were you know they would find all the [TS]

kids who are for sensitive like no [TS]

qui-gon does the beginning was like I [TS]

found these force-sensitive kids better [TS]

deals like you you need to go into the [TS]

system you need to go and get the stupid [TS]

helmet on your teachers your stuff and [TS]

like you know you have to get into the [TS]

sister and the other alternative is you [TS]

slipped through the cracks and some [TS]

  random Seth fines [TS]

you know there's not a lot of them is [TS]

not a lot of population so basically if [TS]

you were for sensitive the Jedi Order [TS]

and everything was collecting you up and [TS]

now there is no one collecting anyone up [TS]

and the military service during during [TS]

the you know the Empire times if you [TS]

force that darth vader comes and kills [TS]

you presume but things are going to [TS]

competition what if all the force was [TS]

essentially hoarded by the emperor [TS]

emperor and Darth Vader has been on the [TS]

  force works [TS]

Wow also here's my friends is and binds [TS]

us but I mean again not to go too much [TS]

into the the you know like the deep with [TS]

the prequels products but yeah my [TS]

fundamental problem with that prophecy [TS]

was the soon as the end of the return of [TS]

the jedi happens the force is no longer [TS]

imbalance can only have light side [TS]

yeah I don't understand why this is like [TS]

it's not like you know a news program we [TS]

need to have one had the pro in the [TS]

coming doing children pro and con need [TS]

to have a balanced like yr ini school's [TS]

failing that's what I want to know what [TS]

  you need [TS]

why do we need to have it in balance why [TS]

do we need some amount of child killing [TS]

and mixed in because then it won't be in [TS]

balance is how I i see how the thing is [TS]

that i don't think you need balance I [TS]

think that there's an interesting taking [TS]

their being balanced because court like [TS]

you know order and chaos sort of are [TS]

always at war with one another and so [TS]

I'm wondering if maybe Luke decided like [TS]

instead of you know if we take a very [TS]

different view from liked the post [TS]

cannon that was done in all the books [TS]

everything was like alright we're going [TS]

to train a brand-new Jedi Order and [TS]

everything's gonna be great again [TS]

instead be like looks like all right [TS]

great we you know solved all the [TS]

problems you know what the force really [TS]

kind of leads to a whole bunch of [TS]

problems so i'm just gonna go and go [TS]

like the obi-wan Kenobi route go back to [TS]

Tatooine holed up in a house somewhere [TS]

and just chill out for a while and let [TS]

everything take it you know natural [TS]

course of events and that would be a bed [TS]

but what he's thinking is like I'm the [TS]

only one who I'm the only Jedi left [TS]

right if I don't train anyone else there [TS]

won't be another Jedi but the flaw in [TS]

that plan is like he wasn't a Jedi when [TS]

  he was born [TS]

you know when i was working as a farmer [TS]

and help her write like so something [TS]

i'll be people there going to be people [TS]

born who are for sensitive and if no one [TS]

is there to guide them you're gonna have [TS]

trouble right i think i want and again [TS]

like that's nice because there's an [TS]

echoing call back then of like obi-wan [TS]

Kenobi being too you know like having [TS]

the hubris issue of like thinking he can [TS]

train people himself and and loops [TS]

compensating the other direction me like [TS]

  I i know i can't train people i'm not [TS]

that good so I'm just gonna not do [TS]

anything which turns out to be a really [TS]

bad decision as well or he could have [TS]

  thought that he [TS]

solve the problem is just it right it [TS]

doesn't make any sense he was literally [TS]

one of those people who was just born [TS]

somewhere didn't know anything about [TS]

Jedi or the forest but was for sensitive [TS]

and you know could have fallen in with [TS]

the wrong crowd and just thought you [TS]

said you didn't know what was that [TS]

people like me out there why am i anyway [TS]

we'll see what he actually does but he [TS]

was also the Sun Darth Vader so maybe [TS]

there was like you know you almost get [TS]

like sort of a bloodline think Leon [TS]

they're all the other judges again they [TS]

weren't supposed to have attachments or [TS]

children so you never know [TS]

yeah but you know about those Jedi it's [TS]

got someone on the side and since I [TS]

didn't enjoy the women of the Jedi [TS]

Council hiding their pregnancies through [TS]

the force you know Jedi a Jedi and every [TS]

port my belly is not getting larger [TS]

ok yeah that I yes we talk okay and then [TS]

we get that so after we saw mr. t [TS]

lightsaber mr. t mr. cheezle many people [TS]

who doesn't have a nice weekend i get on [TS]

that million fuckin barrack I think what [TS]

I think we got to agree we get what is [TS]

probably the money shot you have to [TS]

  chase you think [TS]

yeah and then which I have to say was [TS]

the moment that got me like you know [TS]

they gave me the goosebumps because like [TS]

I i wrote on the peace the the quick [TS]

piece i wrote on six colors for Jason [TS]

there i feel like this is a scene that [TS]

JJ Abrams like plucked from our [TS]

conscious collective imagination of just [TS]

like we always knew the Millennium [TS]

Falcon was awesome and you know you get [TS]

you get parts of that in in the original [TS]

trilogy you get to see it in the [TS]

asteroid field all that but like that [TS]

even of all the problems with the [TS]

special editions my favorite scene [TS]

remains that scene where you see the [TS]

morning Paul can take off from ma sighs [TS]

Lee in the first movie because the other [TS]

you had a scene of something that was [TS]

brand-new and acted in that way that you [TS]

knew that ship could act we just didn't [TS]

have the technology to display it at the [TS]

time and so you know having the ability [TS]

to do dynamic cameras and to do some CGI [TS]

and to do you know all the stuff that [TS]

  they're doing here [TS]

it makes it like it makes it feel real [TS]

and it makes it like something that all [TS]

our imaginations when you're a kid you [TS]

got your little million Falkenstein [TS]

you're flying around like you're like oh [TS]

yeah i can do all these things can fly [TS]

upside down and like skim down near the [TS]

surface of things and I don't know it's [TS]

just like for me it captured perfectly [TS]

this idea of like what i wanted to c 4 [TS]

30 literally we're discussing on the [TS]

original trilogy the shots of people and [TS]

live-action things are fairly static and [TS]

then motion-control camera made the [TS]

ship and space battle shots so much more [TS]

exciting so here if they're going to use [TS]

sort of modern camera movement [TS]

techniques to show the people want that [TS]

then make the the spaceship shots less [TS]

exciting and the answer is no because we [TS]

can do way more than we could with [TS]

motion control cameras before so they [TS]

they're still keeping the same balance [TS]

of like the people shots are [TS]

conventional in a modern sense but the [TS]

spaceship shots we could do anything and [TS]

so you know they're showing you know [TS]

this is this this one-shot they show [TS]

hear something that would have given ilm [TS]

of the seventies like it would have just [TS]

like made them all just grown and have [TS]

nightmares for like months at a time [TS]

received you like we can do anything we [TS]

want lens flare sky stand fully brightly [TS]

lit the cameras flipping around while [TS]

the ship is flipping around something [TS]

you know realistic-looking sand kicking [TS]

up under it we can do everything and so [TS]

they're still keeping that balance [TS]

because if they kept the shots looking [TS]

like shots from empire and that it would [TS]

be it would be a letdown and this this [TS]

is not that well this is a also i like [TS]

that this is the millennium fawlcon [TS]

doing that move you know that move where [TS]

they go up and look around and come back [TS]

  down [TS]

yeah and women beautiful new radar dish [TS]

because they want yeah I noticed that [TS]

too in a water-filled why I pop the [TS]

exact same thing it's like skits [TS]

rectangular instead of circular like [TS]

much lower profile so the next time you [TS]

need to go into a Death Star won't get [TS]

  knocked up [TS]

yeah we'll see about that and still [TS]

focus on is still the highest thing it's [TS]

gonna highest thing on the show you [TS]

gotta have radar just come on man don't [TS]

  drive anymore [TS]

well we're close friends are you got not [TS]

only do we have the falken which looks [TS]

you know basically just beat up it's not [TS]

like console came into a lot of money is [TS]

like I'm gonna fix this thing up real [TS]

nice now looks pretty much don't know [TS]

about tomorrow we're having anybody [TS]

driving come on Han Solo was driving and [TS]

look at the way that thing flies it [TS]

could be happening in the back pocket [TS]

taken Sarah didn't hurt to me that [TS]

there's like you know Han Solo's teenage [TS]

kid is taking this look like it's that [TS]

scene from the first Star Trek reboot [TS]

where you know Curtis is his dad's car [TS]

yeah it's someone so let's kill the fall [TS]

can take it for a joyride [TS]

so when it loops around loops first you [TS]

see it is flying through the air like [TS]

  okay [TS]

atmosphere not space loop sloop sloop [TS]

sloop in the big surprises guess where [TS]

it is it's on Tatooine because then you [TS]

get the stand coming to the shot in the [TS]

sand coming up and it's like what are [TS]

  you doing [TS]

  flying that thing around [TS]

that's the first surprise in the second [TS]

surprise which is less for the surprise [TS]

in the age of Star Wars rebels is that [TS]

their typewriters hyper scattering and [TS]

and if you're watching Star Wars rebels [TS]

this is not new your custom to seeing [TS]

TIE fighters fly around on top of sand [TS]

right but that has new a new idea in the [TS]

Star Wars world that these what we [TS]

consider space spider right and which [TS]

were mostly in space due to technical [TS]

reasons because a lot easier to shoot [TS]

ships against that you know black [TS]

background background light that is to [TS]

try to put them in full daylight on a [TS]

planet with Sun and everything [TS]

now this is something we are you know we [TS]

haven't seen before and why wouldn't [TS]

they be dog fighting over the Sanders if [TS]

they're you know if if the Empire is in [TS]

for whoever is flying these fighters and [TS]

shoot whoever is playing the money and [TS]

falcon in the original trilogy you just [TS]

  had to happen [TS]

suffice it to say they take off from the [TS]

desert plant and they go into space at [TS]

whatever point there will be some kind [TS]

of chase and it's like now we can have [TS]

this take place here now [TS]

well I not only that but I think about [TS]

the again adding tension things like now [TS]

you have to think about gravity because [TS]

there's a planet below and barely okay [TS]

you don't need to think about how much i [TS]

have no i don't think i can take offense [TS]

but like it is like a when that seemed [TS]

comes around and he's that close like [TS]

the ship is that close to putting into [TS]

  something that's a moment but don't [TS]

crash you know like there's nothing a [TS]

hit and space i got the asteroids after [TS]

anything like what's it it changes the [TS]

rules for for how things go here yeah [TS]

you can we try to think about the [TS]

aerodynamics of any ships it's not [TS]

obviously compliant I think someone did [TS]

a thing about the TIE fighters and how [TS]

like they would just share part yeah [TS]

that X agonal come earlier the solar [TS]

panels are getting all the Sun the [TS]

although they look kind of white in this [TS]

shot to which I thought was interesting [TS]

yeah sure they are like you know where I [TS]

time there I TIE fighters [TS]

they're all black and white now they [TS]

look well they look like they got a [TS]

  see-through panels [TS]

yeah you're right now little transition [TS]

  side panels [TS]

I what I like about this is the same [TS]

thing i said earlier about the [TS]

stormtroopers which is again I thought [TS]

  you'd nub [TS]

why are there tie fighters yeah we have [TS]

again it's good because it is sending [TS]

the message like look this is still what [TS]

you know this is not gonna have a story [TS]

about the politics involving putting [TS]

back together HTML shooting each other [TS]

and guys fighting with t-shaped [TS]

lightsabers get on board that's right [TS]

have long discussions about what the [TS]

optimal form of government for that [TS]

should we have a bicameral legislature [TS]

that is that is coming in the next [TS]

trailer my just how do we have two [TS]

senators like 10 people on that planet [TS]

well it did you do to the the the way [TS]

that the Republic was set up the smaller [TS]

planets wanted as much representation of [TS]

a larger planet so everybody has two [TS]

senators a number of Representatives [TS]

proportionate to the population does [TS]

sure so that all be in the spin-off [TS]

series Star Wars Constitution it'll be a [TS]

1776 star wars over slavery will be a [TS]

big issue is that means going to be well [TS]

you gotta let us keep the slaves because [TS]

otherwise interact Union oh my that's it [TS]

  that's the whole thing [TS]

  there's a there's a title which doesnt I [TS]

think it's for interesting that this is [TS]

being sold as star wars the force [TS]

awakens episode 7 does not appear at any [TS]

point that you know soda has been [TS]

poisoned as a as a format for Star Wars [TS]

  middle names [TS]

well I think will seed in the onion [TS]

opening cross obviously but yeah it's [TS]

not marketed this episode 7 it's [TS]

marketed as the force awakens period [TS]

  right [TS]

yep whatever just searching for a [TS]

download of this there's no piercings [TS]

and this around there was a fan-made [TS]

thing called star wars the force awakens [TS]

from like 2006 i believe oh of course [TS]

you guys are like every permutation has [TS]

been used come on I know but it's just [TS]

interesting that you know that out there [TS]

are some a bunch of fans who spent you [TS]

know months possibly years of their [TS]

lives making a fan-made thing called the [TS]

force awakens and now they're just going [TS]

to be bombarded with a real thing called [TS]

yeah i think they're probably just [TS]

really excited though if you spent that [TS]

much time making a Star Wars fan film [TS]

  like 10 years ago [TS]

you're probably super sight that they [TS]

  use [TS]

same making spirit and their google [TS]

juices is about to expire as we speak so [TS]

say whatever hope to be anywhere in the [TS]

search results for that shit query that [TS]

time is now it's going the last thing I [TS]

want is right after the December 2015 [TS]

things that we do get a little [TS]

lightsaber noise in the background [TS]

yeah that's the sound of a lightsaber [TS]

turning off that right it's turning [TS]

turning turning turning around town [TS]

yeah yep turning out sorry played it [TS]

yeah and so like that again in typical [TS]

modern trailer parlance if they were [TS]

going to do another little you know [TS]

Shaston erectus entertained at the end [TS]

there would be no true becomes onscreen [TS]

for a second roars little rd do head [TS]

spins around you know nothing nothing [TS]

you know any of that [TS]

  nope they're I mean they're very I think [TS]

JJ Abrams is very widely wisely hoarding [TS]

all of those things to dole them out [TS]

later on and and know that you will get [TS]

excited when you can you know it's [TS]

either that the real trailer you know [TS]

which will come out in six months but [TS]

that's what i was going to go to next [TS]

which is what what what comes next and [TS]

it's clear that they've decided to do I [TS]

mean look these guys know what they're [TS]

doing this is the modern this is that [TS]

how you roll out a movie right this is [TS]

how they roll out the Marvel movies at [TS]

at Disney and Marvel this is how pics [TS]

are rules that look this is how you roll [TS]

out of movies you get a teaser a year [TS]

ahead of time you maybe you really still [TS]

  with some point there's a there's a [TS]

there's another teaser trailer there's [TS]

truly to their there's a trailer and you [TS]

know they've got and they probably [TS]

already know roughly when they're doing [TS]

all of those things and they're not [TS]

gonna parcel this out to us if they're [TS]

smart again I feel like they also will [TS]

learn from the mistakes of episode 1 and [TS]

not oversaturate and terms of like [TS]

having multiple different version like [TS]

multiple trailers right starts to reveal [TS]

too much of the movie it's especially [TS]

with something like Star Wars where [TS]

everybody already like as soon as you [TS]

put this out there everybody knows it's [TS]

there right like you don't need to [TS]

advertise this movie that much you can [TS]

be kind of deliver it and and much more [TS]

conservative about it then you might [TS]

have to do for a property that is not [TS]

otherwise established and so I I think [TS]

there's a lot there could be really [TS]

clever to do some you know not do too [TS]

much for this but keep a lot of mystery [TS]

about it and sort of retain a lot of the [TS]

sort of juicy parts of it for [TS]

Iran episode was trailers burn bags they [TS]

have a right now either with the guys [TS]

coming out of the swamp and then i had a [TS]

couple trailers but that what they [TS]

overdid it was the TV ads and [TS]

over-the-top home TV as you have like [TS]

they weren't adding anything and it was [TS]

just confusing things and I think the [TS]

approach they're using for this movie is [TS]

much more sort of modern in you know [TS]

Star Wars rebels is essentially an [TS]

extended trailer for this movie and that [TS]

but it is it is showing things from that [TS]

universe that looks similar to the movie [TS]

is keeping star wars in the public [TS]

consciousness and it's making sure that [TS]

kids will know the star wars still thing [TS]

it is still an ongoing thing that you [TS]

know kids are watching Star Wars rebels [TS]

and i'm sure it will you leave them [TS]

directly into this moment I just I just [TS]

I just paste it into the into our little [TS]

i am the be a meme awaken switches the [TS]

lightsabers with like eight things [TS]

coming off of the many things coming off [TS]

  of it [TS]

yeah it looks like it looks like an [TS]

ordinary person who's going to grab a [TS]

lightsaber handle activated and 17 [TS]

blades computer and porcupine blade they [TS]

call it well I was picturing jason's [TS]

thing where it's like oh yeah just [TS]

blowing off extra stuff like what if it [TS]

comes out the back of the handle that's [TS]

terrible as terrible design does that [TS]

boys what what do I have to do to get [TS]

you in this later okay i guess i could i [TS]

can add 10 more beams are together it'll [TS]

sell better do the ones that come out of [TS]

the hand look uncomfortable you just [TS]

gotta hold it just right you can do what [TS]

you do in that our problem [TS]

I mean we've continually see again you [TS]

know John reference there was probably a [TS]

couple times the the Darth malish [TS]

lightsaber in that one used by the [TS]

Inquisitr which not only has two plates [TS]

but also spins around which has kind of [TS]

a general grievous thing going and [TS]

everyone's like you just take a bunch of [TS]

nobodies that one had like an [TS]

interesting plot thing where you know he [TS]

keeps the ones from his vanquished foes [TS]

because why would you throw them out [TS]

there perfectly good and then put small [TS]

hands and he's been same reason of the [TS]

TIE fighters in the Stormtrooper here [TS]

perfectly good stormtrooper armor don't [TS]

  throw it out [TS]

yeah I think it would be better like if [TS]

I had to find a new lightsaber our [TS]

direction through the set of movies what [TS]

i would do on Syracuse's dream job yeah [TS]

I like savor our director is ignoring [TS]

ignoring the shapes of the handles what [TS]

i would do is if we have two sides here [TS]

i would decide what the Whiteside [TS]

lightsabers look like and what the [TS]

darkside lightsabers look like and they [TS]

  were just [TS]

actually be kind of like it you know and [TS]

then lord of the rings movies where you [TS]

have what or what an art store looks [TS]

like and what elements are looks like [TS]

and then what the generic menso like [TS]

they have things like all the people all [TS]

the riders of rohan have someone looking [TS]

source all the Elvis towards you have [TS]

share similar sort of theme and so I [TS]

would give them things before we know [TS]

we've done i could only see one thing or [TS]

whatever but within the themes you can [TS]

do variations but I don't like the idea [TS]

of just everybody's life savers just [TS]

randomly different like you if you're [TS]

gonna have one unique snowflake i'm [TS]

garth model special because he has a [TS]

double in daylight savings guys [TS]

especially since t-shape I said well the [TS]

dark side in the prequels everybody has [TS]

a different light so you got a curved [TS]

handle lightsaber you got it should [TS]

there should be a there should be a [TS]

thing like sift lightsaber should look [TS]

like this with variations like sidelight [TS]

here which looks like this direction i'm [TS]

starting talking in terms of how many [TS]

blades and where they are and i'm [TS]

talking about handle you know what i [TS]

mean but I always sort of rebuilding the [TS]

idea that the all the city need to have [TS]

red lightsaber is like what if you what [TS]

if that's not your favorite color [TS]

like what if you're a like SF and your [TS]

favorite color is green like that really [TS]

sucks i bet it really hurts your stealth [TS]

abilities to calculate the main simply [TS]

would be you know some water war all I [TS]

table should be blue or green [TS]

why do white with me right because as [TS]

soon as you pull out your lights able to [TS]

turn out like that guy's definitely evil [TS]

we should just kill him right now [TS]

especially his life looks awfully me and [TS]

Static yeah it is because the good guy [TS]

is gonna turn out that he's he appears [TS]

when we hear and light maybe he's the [TS]

hero and he was Jeff I and this is all a [TS]

giant screw you and I will not my type [TS]

cast by the color of my lightsaber what [TS]

if you like a purple lightsaber like [TS]

mace windu yeah I think there's some [TS]

kind of I don't know the details with [TS]

some kind of thing about the the colors [TS]

and the crystals and how difficult it is [TS]

to make each one of them and also that [TS]

  was that [TS]

remember they had an episode in clone [TS]

wars about there's an episode where they [TS]

have to go find different crystals but [TS]

it's like the hardest of all is the blue [TS]

down nation let's see you can read more [TS]

about this in my Jedi self-help book [TS]

what color is your lights and ok looking [TS]

on amazon Tatooine seriously that's your [TS]

that's your new fan fish could be what [TS]

color's your lightsaber tips for Jedi [TS]

  add a crossroads [TS]

you know I don't know [TS]

anything more we should say about this [TS]

thing I mean we've only been talking for [TS]

hosting network of that 80 seconds of [TS]

your trailer it's gonna kill me to wait [TS]

a year now and I really [TS]

a year now and I really [TS]

you know I get in with the enzyme going [TS]

to be i hope i get when i was a when I [TS]

was much younger I remember story told [TS]

me about my cousin who was convinced she [TS]

was gonna die before return the Jedi [TS]

came out because like you should know so [TS]

she saw the end of the Empire in the [TS]

theaters when she was a kid and she's [TS]

like I'm never gonna make it to be so [TS]

yeah in some ways it feels like here so [TS]

long but at the same time it's like [TS]

trying to do the avoiding spoilers thing [TS]

I think it's just gonna be really [TS]

difficult and i referenced in the in the [TS]

six colors post I wrote The Phantom [TS]

Menace soundtrack debacle was below yes [TS]

it's the quiet grounds funeral trip yeah [TS]

worst spoil ever like two days [TS]

beforehand about the soundtrack flipped [TS]

over what this guy dies [TS]

yeah so I'm going to avoid I as much as [TS]

I want to listen to the soundtrack gotta [TS]

wait until after the movie comes out got [TS]

ya so it's like careful [TS]

we're going to walk down between now and [TS]

then but doesn't learn their lesson that [TS]

the the episode 7 soundtrack each track [TS]

is going to be just like what ? surname [TS]

future that we know it's coming thank [TS]

you everybody dies right everybody [TS]

produced and c3po funeral like every [TS]

  character and character movies [TS]

misdirection you don't know what JJ [TS]

Abrams just trolling yeah with us that's [TS]

right will be the special special [TS]

edition early edition now I'm kind of [TS]

glad this trailer does not meet my [TS]

expectations because it's helping me [TS]

tamp down like this it's helping me tamp [TS]

down the enthusiasm for do not repeat [TS]

the mistake of episode 1 and tried to [TS]

keep my expectations in line you know [TS]

  yeah I I can't I can't do it like I'm [TS]

  trying I i admit i'm trying but I'm i [TS]

will never not love the idea of new [TS]

stories in this universe i may be [TS]

constantly disappointed but I love this [TS]

this universe so much that I'm always [TS]

like I will never not be excited at the [TS]

possibility that there will be a good [TS]

  story [TS]

well it's just marvelous ation of Star [TS]

Wars is good and that like we now don't [TS]

have to hang all of our hopes on the you [TS]

know towards 3some every couple of years [TS]

releases from one particular tortured [TS]

genius now will be a franchise and if 12 [TS]

or you know if we get some you know [TS]

Green Lantern's mixed in so long as long [TS]

as we get them along with like the [TS]

ironman villains don't cross the streams [TS]

  that's not even marvel [TS]

no but I don't say i know i would say [TS]

like superhero movies superhero movies [TS]

are thing it's not like we have to wait [TS]

for and you know when we have a stinker [TS]

superhero movie like matter what they'll [TS]

be there will be more more will be along [TS]

in a minute just wait like a bus stop [TS]

and I just can't work and so with the [TS]

star wars one with them both doing the [TS]

episode numbers and like the standalone [TS]

films if these end up being fingers it's [TS]

not like now I am crushed for the next [TS]

three years or nine years or however [TS]

long you know there's hope for the next [TS]

  one [TS]

yeah because it's not the same crew [TS]

making them it's not the same people [TS]

writing that was not saying people [TS]

directing all of them there is always [TS]

hope so this is like Dan said this is [TS]

actually our first chance to get on the [TS]

big screen stories in this universe in a [TS]

legitimate fashion big stories the [TS]

universe used to be movies made with the [TS]

approval of george lucas was not a [TS]

particularly diverse way to get stories [TS]

in this universe right right and at the [TS]

expectation level was so high and they [TS]

were they were they were all these [TS]

perfect you know flowers they had to [TS]

succeed or fail but they would be like [TS]

one and then they walk away and it's [TS]

years and now it's a machine that's [TS]

going to be putting out Star Wars movies [TS]

every year and he it's different if most [TS]

of these are as good as you know the [TS]

average Marvel movie i will be pretty [TS]

pleased i can set my expectations are [TS]

higher than that happen if they are only [TS]

as good as the average Marvel movie i [TS]

will be missed disappointed i'm hoping [TS]

for some that stand out i'm i'm prepared [TS]

for the best thinkers sure I mean that [TS]

  was 42 [TS]

hey you know what I like 30 like the [TS]

bell curve i think the bell curve is is [TS]

smaller here in terms of i agree with [TS]

John that I I want them to be better and [TS]

higher than that but it's like if the [TS]

worst one is as bad as a mediocre Marvel [TS]

movie like that's pretty good i don't [TS]

know i still don't know if we have room [TS]

for something like a Thor one because [TS]

for one it's a silly movie it's kind of [TS]

a trifle but it's fun i have affection [TS]

for it and then it's like all right [TS]

whatever they like what can a marvel [TS]

superhero movie like it could be kind of [TS]

more serious like you know the captain [TS]

america one was kind of our straight [TS]

ahead at taking itself some semi [TS]

seriously but Thor was you know i [TS]

unabashedly silly and not the same you [TS]

know not as heavy what is the Avengers [TS]

and everything is all serious and stuff [TS]

like that are not as angst-ridden asst [TS]

as Hulk I don't know if we are get ready [TS]

  for a light-hearted [TS]

starting with the guardians of the [TS]

galaxy mean yeah like that was that [TS]

yeah in that direction or like you know [TS]

  i don't i don't know it will take a [TS]

  while [TS]

I think you have to establish your good [TS]

ones for you have to start with the star [TS]

trek reboot did was like here is here is [TS]

an example of the form as you expect [TS]

  with a modern twist [TS]

ah and like what what frees you up to be [TS]

able to make a goofy movie about drugs [TS]

or something I don't know this is not [TS]

going to be the goofy movie address this [TS]

has to be the straight-ahead star wars [TS]

movie and maybe after three or four of [TS]

these you're freed up where ya been [TS]

then you get the spin-off which is like [TS]

two hours of like yoda bodily humor soon [TS]

you're gonna love that you love it John [TS]

yeah I don't like after you have to sort [TS]

of it you have to sort of establish your [TS]

credibility first to make the other sort [TS]

of ancillary movies in the universe work [TS]

and right i don't know what the timeline [TS]

is gonna be like to because of these [TS]

these three movies are obviously going [TS]

to be you know an arc that travels [TS]

through I don't know how you leave the [TS]

other movies in between the matter even [TS]

know what lenses and and it's a back [TS]

it's the reverse to what we saw with the [TS]

Avengers right where we saw all the [TS]

individual movies come out and then they [TS]

culminate in the adventures now we're [TS]

seeing the sort of tentpole think ahead [TS]

of time and then it sort of balloons out [TS]

behind that into all these different [TS]

properties so there is a lot there's a [TS]

lot obviously riding on this movie you [TS]

know it also has the best chance that [TS]

this is the modern type of thing with [TS]

harry potter and the Marvel movies where [TS]

you have a franchise with a corporate [TS]

owner and the corporate owner is fairly [TS]

savvy about or maybe not savvy about [TS]

least not afraid to try different things [TS]

try different directors try different [TS]

approaches you know the the Harry Potter [TS]

movies varied wildly in you know in in [TS]

tone in appearance and I mean obviously [TS]

the cast was the same but that's that's [TS]

what you know sort you sort of hold the [TS]

story in the cast constant and see how [TS]

you can vary within that universe and [TS]

they're not afraid to do that they're [TS]

not afraid to give you know this movie [TS]

the joss whedon and this movie do you [TS]

know someone else and like mix it up and [TS]

try to get a list everything and if it [TS]

doesn't work out of some combination of [TS]

people doesn't seem to gel try a [TS]

different combination don't just say [TS]

like he's our star to star wars guy he's [TS]

going to get the whole franchise like a [TS]

showrunner for the next 15 years and no [TS]

one wants to do that anymore except [TS]

George Lucas because this is baby [TS]

he's out of the picture and be it gives [TS]

you hope for the future and that no [TS]

matter what this combination of this [TS]

production team does or like doctor who [TS]

like you don't like this production team [TS]

you don't like the showrunner wait long [TS]

long enough it'll it'll cycle around [TS]

again so that gives will get inevitably [TS]

will get the reboots at some point [TS]

yeah I'm ready for the reboots I want [TS]

them to I want to see and you know [TS]

original trilogy Star Wars reboot before [TS]

i die so someone get that on their [TS]

schedule somewhere I think you can [TS]

safely say that that is in Disney's [TS]

  vault somewhere [TS]

yeah i mean Marvel has has a schedule to [TS]

2020 already so I don't know what [TS]

they're waiting on how long i think i'm [TS]

going to live they better get this in [TS]

the planning stages available but the [TS]

fact that they're probably they're [TS]

  probably planning a lot I i think i [TS]

think we've heard some of the ideas [TS]

about what what some of these inner [TS]

interim movies are going to be and I [TS]

think they're going over sort of classic [TS]

characters and telling stories with them [TS]

i suspect that may happen for the first [TS]

few years just as the force awakens and [TS]

that storyline kind of goes forward [TS]

although i would love it to love to see [TS]

a Marvel less kind of thing where [TS]

they're all kind of like sharing a [TS]

  universe and telling interlocking [TS]

stories something right the breakdown [TS]

gonna be it's early to force the second [TS]

movie is gonna be the force its news so [TS]

that's really definitely got the horse [TS]

gets out of bed makes a cup of coffee [TS]

and decided man and forgot to itv I [TS]

think this does you know mention well [TS]

with the idea of we're talking about [TS]

like sort of what if they're you know if [TS]

there had been no more no more Jedi or [TS]

for sensitive people for the last 30 [TS]

years or whatever this covers and all of [TS]

a sudden now we're starting to see you [TS]

know there are people with you get my [TS]

kind of the flash approach where it's [TS]

like now there are people with powers [TS]

but some of the market and some of them [TS]

are bad and we get to explore what that [TS]

looks like over the course of 20 movies [TS]

yeah well I I appreciate the idea that [TS]

the this Universal rich that there are [TS]

also you can take the approach of having [TS]

these anthology movies that are just on [TS]

just in the star wars universe somewhere [TS]

at some time and that seems to be where [TS]

they're starting and we'll see where [TS]

  they go from there [TS]

  i I don't know whether it's better this [TS]

is such a rich universe that having [TS]

going back and being able to explore [TS]

boba fett maybe it's not so bad but you [TS]

know I don't know that the way the [TS]

Marvel Universe thing has done it has [TS]

been to have it all be intertwined and [TS]

  happen [TS]

simultaneously I think you can do that [TS]

the model franchise history on patients [TS]

in that I obviously if you did you know [TS]

the complex stories you know where it's [TS]

going anyway but that there is no [TS]

equivalent comic book stories here they [TS]

can have the patience to for example [TS]

have a movie about a foreign sensitive [TS]

person on the planet that we haven't [TS]

really seen before and just have it be [TS]

like a personal story or like [TS]

coming-of-age story and maybe maybe have [TS]

a good coming-of-age story like a ghost [TS]

a John Hughes movie in space but like [TS]

they're in Jedi high school and that the [TS]

people know whatever like just the whole [TS]

kind of the ice i called my cell called [TS]

  for sensitive life [TS]

yeah just to work your way into that and [TS]

they like what was the point of that [TS]

movie was just kind of a or like a harry [TS]

potter type thing you know you are a [TS]

person with power is this problem with [TS]

that you have problems with your family [TS]

whatever it's like what was the point of [TS]

that movie while you build that [TS]

character up and now that character is [TS]

ready to step up to the next level of [TS]

the franchise and by you know several [TS]

movies down the line that person who you [TS]

still have a coming-of-age story or [TS]

their their story of their life in the [TS]

slums of of tatooine working for the [TS]

huts or whatever that can culminate in [TS]

each person who makes it out of each one [TS]

of those individual movies becoming an [TS]

important person as they meet in a sort [TS]

of secondary movie and that you know [TS]

working your way up to what we assume to [TS]

be the the important trilogy event which [TS]

is you know good versus evil on a grand [TS]

scale that happen will happen and I [TS]

wasn't in any of these meetings you [TS]

believe that huh that they're lost John [TS]

  their loss [TS]

what is their problem nobody ever knows [TS]

what they prob what they really see this [TS]

is what they really lack is good ideas [TS]

what the two and star wars universe if [TS]

only someone had some ideas about things [TS]

you could just star wars anybody have [TS]

any ideas that go round table just be so [TS]

on faces that but i think that no one [TS]

another problem isn't any thought [TS]

actually yeah the problem is star wars [TS]

are is like just a really difficult [TS]

title to say all the time [TS]

anyone have any ideas anyone nope [TS]

  nothing [TS]

how about two lights everybody go home [TS]

and I think about Star Wars for a little [TS]

bit obvious you guys have not done your [TS]

homework you know you probably haven't [TS]

given this franchiser this universe a [TS]

lot of thought maybe think about it [TS]

sure alright well I think we're done [TS]

I think we've done it i think we talked [TS]

for more than an hour about a trailer [TS]

because I'm for less than two minutes i [TS]

think that is a table style and shot the [TS]

  star wars minute [TS]

where they have 20 minute podcast about [TS]

each minute yeah its strategy so we're [TS]

  still crystal proportionally reasonable [TS]

yeah sure okay fair enough [TS]

alright well thanks to everybody out [TS]

there for listening to our sudden [TS]

hastily convened podcast about Star Wars [TS]

things Dan and John thank you both for [TS]

being here and i love i love your [TS]

enthusiasm about this and I i just want [TS]

to say I think it's really great that [TS]

Star Trek is coming back [TS]

what's coming back yeah I'm just rolling [TS]

you to make another one of those yeah [TS]

they are apparently but not with jay [TS]

from he's busy and some other franchise [TS]

whatever the force will not be with you [TS]

  Jason never never [TS]

alright thanks for listening everybody [TS]

  goodbye [TS]
