00:00:05   the incomparable number 199 jun 2014 [TS]

00:00:12   welcome back to be uncomfortable i'm [TS]

00:00:14   your host Jason smell this episode 199 [TS]

00:00:18   surely not momentous in any possible way [TS]

00:00:22   we're here at the end of the or less the [TS]

00:00:26   end of what has traditionally been [TS]

00:00:28   considered the TV season although [TS]

00:00:29   there's a bunch of stuff that's on the [TS]

00:00:30   summer too and I thought this would be a [TS]

00:00:32   good time not only to do what we do [TS]

00:00:33   every year which is talk about the game [TS]

00:00:36   of thrones season that just passed but [TS]

00:00:37   also talk about other TV series that [TS]

00:00:39   we've seen over the past nine months and [TS]

00:00:42   that we want to talk about it maybe even [TS]

00:00:45   recommend to you [TS]

00:00:46   so we're going to start by talking about [TS]

00:00:47   things with the basically no spoilers or [TS]

00:00:51   as little spoiler as possible and then [TS]

00:00:53   we get to Game of Thrones the spoiler [TS]

00:00:55   horn is warming up in the bullpen ready [TS]

00:00:57   to come in and blow its horn so we can [TS]

00:00:59   talk about Game of Thrones Season 4 so [TS]

00:01:01   joining me to talk TV are a fine [TS]

00:01:04   collection of couch potatoes John [TS]

00:01:07   siracusa hello [TS]

00:01:08   you're all going to have to remind me [TS]

00:01:09   which TV shows actually happening to [TS]

00:01:12   this quote-unquote CM because my eyes [TS]

00:01:15   concept of time is very shaky but i have [TS]

00:01:17   a long list of shows just just stop me [TS]

00:01:19   if it's something that was online okay [TS]

00:01:20   we're not rigorous fact-checkers here [TS]

00:01:22   but we'll let will help you out if we [TS]

00:01:24   can David laura is also here hello hello [TS]

00:01:27   there you'll be leaving us when the [TS]

00:01:29   spoiler and fires for Game of Thrones as [TS]

00:01:31   you haven't seen it all hang out because [TS]

00:01:33   i'm not going to see it so okay all [TS]

00:01:35   right you can just you can just got [TS]

00:01:37   going on grants and stare at the wall [TS]

00:01:38   making using comment as needed [TS]

00:01:40   good good good that's so like always [TS]

00:01:43   Erica and sign also here hello hello [TS]

00:01:48   I my list is fearfully short but but I'm [TS]

00:01:51   excited about the things that are on it [TS]

00:01:53   today have TV in Canada [TS]

00:01:55   no actually we're going to talk about [TS]

00:01:57   some TV that was produced in Canada so I [TS]

00:01:59   shouldn't joke but it's can I can't [TS]

00:02:01   resist because you just so nice up there [TS]

00:02:03   yes we are very nice people and making [TS]

00:02:07   lots of TV shows actually turns out [TS]

00:02:09   mm and Scott McNulty is also out there [TS]

00:02:12   he watches television i do and now [TS]

00:02:15   you're going to talk about it [TS]

00:02:16   well maybe we'll see [TS]

00:02:18   we'll see like I should introduce you as [TS]

00:02:20   a as host of the uncomfortable is very [TS]

00:02:23   own spin-off podcast random Trek a show [TS]

00:02:25   about TV shows Star Trek TV shows [TS]

00:02:29   that's true i should mention Erica also [TS]

00:02:31   in addition to being on Verity which is [TS]

00:02:32   podcast about doctor who is also on the [TS]

00:02:34   audiobook guide to Babylon 5 which is a [TS]

00:02:36   show about that 15 so many TV experts [TS]

00:02:40   yeah but the episodes of Babylon 5 this [TS]

00:02:42   season did not so good enough didn't [TS]

00:02:44   really air well and star trek likewise [TS]

00:02:46   not airing currently it's true [TS]

00:02:48   not even in canada the dark time for the [TS]

00:02:50   Republic [TS]

00:02:51   alright yes so so well we should start [TS]

00:02:54   with uh with the things that aren't game [TS]

00:02:57   of thrones so the the show that i wanted [TS]

00:03:00   to bring up and have us talk about at [TS]

00:03:02   least a little bit that I really loved [TS]

00:03:04   last year and have been enjoying this [TS]

00:03:05   year as well is orphan black on BBC [TS]

00:03:08   america so I want to throw that one out [TS]

00:03:10   there how you guys watching orphan black [TS]

00:03:13   king of speaking of Canada [TS]

00:03:14   yes and this is it this is the show shot [TS]

00:03:16   in toronto i believe not [TS]

00:03:19   vancouver as so many shows are but you [TS]

00:03:23   have to perform that's one of the few [TS]

00:03:24   shows that i actually have been watching [TS]

00:03:26   and I got a little behind but marathon [TS]

00:03:28   like five episodes in the last two days [TS]

00:03:30   to catch up so I was ready to talk about [TS]

00:03:31   it and i love it and you're right it is [TS]

00:03:35   Canadian there was there's one scene [TS]

00:03:37   where a character is trying to be all [TS]

00:03:41   sneaky and he says I was just looking [TS]

00:03:43   for the washroom and I was like it's a [TS]

00:03:46   tell median it's giving away their I [TS]

00:03:48   believe there's actually a scene where [TS]

00:03:49   somebody's being shot at it and shouts [TS]

00:03:51   sorry sorry sorry i was like come on [TS]

00:03:54   Canada they say washroom and the [TS]

00:03:58   northern United States to not annoy no [TS]

00:04:01   they do not know it's can do know they [TS]

00:04:04   really don't [TS]

00:04:05   my mother-in-law says it she lives near [TS]

00:04:08   the Wisconsin border John your [TS]

00:04:10   mother-in-law's Canadian spy [TS]

00:04:11   yeah should be that's how they take us [TS]

00:04:14   down until they take America down [TS]

00:04:16   I mean I've never seen that on a sign [TS]

00:04:18   whereas in Canada all the signs that [TS]

00:04:20   there's no rest room or bathroom [TS]

00:04:21   science-y washroom [TS]

00:04:22   so you watch five episodes in in quick [TS]

00:04:25   succession so do you think you're a [TS]

00:04:26   clone now I see that's a deputy anyway [TS]

00:04:29   dear [TS]

00:04:31   mhm [TS]

00:04:32   well I'm actually convinced that my gosh [TS]

00:04:35   how do you say your name [TS]

00:04:36   tatiana much muscle on muscle on Lonnie [TS]

00:04:39   anyway I am convinced that they have [TS]

00:04:41   actually pulled the wool over our eyes [TS]

00:04:43   backward and she's triplets she is [TS]

00:04:45   actually probably at least include [TS]

00:04:47   templates and yeah because every single [TS]

00:04:51   time I watching that show i have to [TS]

00:04:52   remind myself at the end of it but that [TS]

00:04:54   was the same actor playing all of those [TS]

00:04:56   different parts which are so completely [TS]

00:04:57   different [TS]

00:04:58   it blows my mind it's like Eddie Murphy [TS]

00:05:00   and the barbershop and coming to America [TS]

00:05:02   exactly what i find myself pausing and [TS]

00:05:07   turn into my wife and saying that's one [TS]

00:05:10   actress because i can't believe it I i [TS]

00:05:13   will be so enthralled that I i will be [TS]

00:05:15   watching it and then and then I I [TS]

00:05:17   suddenly realize that you know [TS]

00:05:20   no I'm actually what this is a special [TS]

00:05:21   effect and it looks nothing like a [TS]

00:05:23   special effect these characters seem [TS]

00:05:24   fully realize they feel like they should [TS]

00:05:25   have her name in the credits five times [TS]

00:05:27   there are moments when one of the [TS]

00:05:29   characters is kind of light in an [TS]

00:05:30   episode and I think to myself oh they [TS]

00:05:32   must have given her the week off [TS]

00:05:34   no it's the same actress only sell some [TS]

00:05:38   of the characters are better realized [TS]

00:05:40   than others though I think she'd have [TS]

00:05:41   some characters better than she does [TS]

00:05:43   other ones not that I'm saying that it [TS]

00:05:45   starts to look like the same person but [TS]

00:05:46   I don't know who are your favorite to [TS]

00:05:49   you who are the characters that you [TS]

00:05:50   think she really inhabits versus the one [TS]

00:05:52   that you just kind of gets through [TS]

00:05:53   I think allison is the best of all the [TS]

00:05:56   clones naturally yeah yeah I think she's [TS]

00:05:59   up there i was gonna say hi Lena because [TS]

00:06:01   when oh my god willing is the one that [TS]

00:06:03   will be the farthest from the actress [TS]

00:06:05   and the great thing about it is that we [TS]

00:06:07   I bet we all are thinking the actress is [TS]

00:06:10   Sarah but we don't know I've never seen [TS]

00:06:11   an injury with the actors i have no idea [TS]

00:06:13   which one of these is most like the [TS]

00:06:14   actual actress which is also much Sarah [TS]

00:06:17   because she's it's not it's not she's [TS]

00:06:19   Canadian [TS]

00:06:19   so she doesn't have an english accent [TS]

00:06:21   she sounds more I suppose she sounds [TS]

00:06:24   well who did she sound like Alison maybe [TS]

00:06:27   she sounds maybe less perky maybe but [TS]

00:06:30   yeah like Alison accept less perky but [TS]

00:06:31   she definitely has a has a North [TS]

00:06:33   American accent not a not a another [TS]

00:06:35   British accent she did the British [TS]

00:06:37   accent is because it's on BBC america i [TS]

00:06:39   really believe that's been here but it's [TS]

00:06:43   good the opposite of watching the wire [TS]

00:06:44   where you you're sure [TS]

00:06:45   to learn how many ppl british accents [TS]

00:06:47   now I'm shocked to learn these people [TS]

00:06:48   don't have British accent yeah it's the [TS]

00:06:50   other way around [TS]

00:06:51   one thing I actually noticed about about [TS]

00:06:53   orphan black for the first time when we [TS]

00:06:55   were recording the last episode of the [TS]

00:06:57   incomparable about a geek girls with it [TS]

00:07:00   just occurred to me how women centric [TS]

00:07:03   this show is and as i watch this five [TS]

00:07:06   episodes that i watched between and now [TS]

00:07:07   I recognize that it's not just the fact [TS]

00:07:10   that that the main character is seven [TS]

00:07:12   main characters are played by the same [TS]

00:07:14   woman but if you look at the other [TS]

00:07:16   characters in the show who have the most [TS]

00:07:18   sort of power and agency and competence [TS]

00:07:20   almost all of them are either women or [TS]

00:07:23   gay or black or had something you know [TS]

00:07:26   it's it's a show that's pretty pretty [TS]

00:07:28   low on white dudes and I just I hadn't [TS]

00:07:32   even noticed that before because it's [TS]

00:07:33   just such a great show just pulled me in [TS]

00:07:35   and added a himbo this season though [TS]

00:07:38   yeah yeah thats little amped that's to [TS]

00:07:43   see him go into shows he's embo anh a [TS]

00:07:47   game of thrones doing yeah the same same [TS]

00:07:49   row but she's got we've got serious baby [TS]

00:07:51   daddy and also Beth's old boyfriend [TS]

00:07:53   those are both sort of like Captain [TS]

00:07:55   handsome types that are in there but [TS]

00:07:56   you're right there they're like adjuncts [TS]

00:07:58   they're not that you know other like [TS]

00:08:00   Matt Matt freeware i guess it was in [TS]

00:08:03   some ways the you know the most you know [TS]

00:08:07   powerful male figure on the show and [TS]

00:08:10   there there's some others but it does [TS]

00:08:12   seem like when they when they add one [TS]

00:08:14   they be subtracted different one [TS]

00:08:16   yeah I'm being too spoilery about it [TS]

00:08:18   yeah yeah there's some there's some of [TS]

00:08:20   my eye I see the budget that actually is [TS]

00:08:22   a complaint I have is like when they had [TS]

00:08:24   a character and subtracted character [TS]

00:08:25   it's literally like okay you tagging you [TS]

00:08:27   tagged out we can't pay you both i'm ok [TS]

00:08:31   with that because i don't want them to [TS]

00:08:32   dilute the amount of screen time yet one [TS]

00:08:34   gets anymore so i'm i'm happy with a few [TS]

00:08:37   more people buying up everything into [TS]

00:08:38   the season I was really worried about uh [TS]

00:08:40   i read an interview with the producers [TS]

00:08:43   of orphan black before the season [TS]

00:08:44   started where they said that they were [TS]

00:08:45   trying to get try to give Tatiana [TS]

00:08:47   maslany more of a break because she's [TS]

00:08:50   literally when you think about she's [TS]

00:08:51   literally in every scene and they were [TS]

00:08:53   trying to do some scenes without one of [TS]

00:08:54   the clones in them just so that they [TS]

00:08:55   would have a break for her and I was [TS]

00:08:57   worried that that was going to lead [TS]

00:08:59   kind of interminable plots with [TS]

00:09:01   characters that that are uninteresting [TS]

00:09:04   and you don't really notice it they did [TS]

00:09:06   a really good job [TS]

00:09:07   it still feels like she is she is in [TS]

00:09:09   most of the show and I think what it's [TS]

00:09:11   really done is given us some more time [TS]

00:09:13   with Felix her brother and which is [TS]

00:09:16   jordan comparisons the actor Plato also [TS]

00:09:18   Canadian doing an english accent I [TS]

00:09:20   believe butthead that's such a great [TS]

00:09:22   character and and in addition to his [TS]

00:09:26   relationship with all the other clones [TS]

00:09:28   it's not just his relationship with his [TS]

00:09:30   sister but he has really become like a [TS]

00:09:32   match for all these other clones in [TS]

00:09:35   hilarious different ways he also has had [TS]

00:09:37   some other stuff to do and I think [TS]

00:09:38   that's you know so I'm happy for some [TS]

00:09:40   more Felix even at the cost of some of [TS]

00:09:42   the clothes [TS]

00:09:42   me too although the funny thing is when [TS]

00:09:44   you said that I started trying to think [TS]

00:09:46   of some of the scenes that didn't have a [TS]

00:09:48   clone in them and find myself going oh [TS]

00:09:50   no wait that's a clone [TS]

00:09:51   yeah oh yeah oh wait that's her again [TS]

00:09:53   whoo yeah well there's the scenes with [TS]

00:09:55   Cosima no look at all the cult scenes [TS]

00:09:57   with like just the cult people writer [TS]

00:09:59   they're called person daughter that all [TS]

00:10:01   their sort of arguments and yet no I was [TS]

00:10:03   just about to think of what about the [TS]

00:10:04   ones that dyad now that's her to know [TS]

00:10:06   yeah I know that's the thing I so I'm [TS]

00:10:09   curious what you guys think of this [TS]

00:10:10   season compared to last season I I this [TS]

00:10:11   last season took me by surprise [TS]

00:10:13   obviously this performance is fantastic [TS]

00:10:16   this season i felt like i was really [TS]

00:10:20   happy I I didn't think I'm going into it [TS]

00:10:23   that they were going to be able to pull [TS]

00:10:24   it off again I was really kind of [TS]

00:10:25   skeptical about it and and wasn't given [TS]

00:10:27   much I was like this is gonna be a [TS]

00:10:28   disappointment this you know last year I [TS]

00:10:30   don't think they can they can keep it up [TS]

00:10:31   and I'm pleasantly surprised by the fact [TS]

00:10:34   that scene by seem I found this season [TS]

00:10:37   really enjoyable [TS]

00:10:38   that said I think some of the stuff with [TS]

00:10:41   the cold people left me kinda cold and [TS]

00:10:44   some of the I felt cut sometimes but the [TS]

00:10:46   plot was kind of doing a run around [TS]

00:10:47   where they were they were coming out [TS]

00:10:49   didn't have a story for ten after adding [TS]

00:10:51   water so there's like go over here like [TS]

00:10:52   Sara keeps on like go to go go to the RV [TS]

00:10:56   with your baby daddy and then go back [TS]

00:10:58   over here to the dyad and then go over [TS]

00:11:00   here to mrs. ass and she's just like [TS]

00:11:02   bouncing around and I felt like it was [TS]

00:11:04   kind of like just they did that they [TS]

00:11:06   didn't literally have enough story so [TS]

00:11:07   they just kept having people run around [TS]

00:11:08   and bounce off of each other but the [TS]

00:11:10   individual scene [TS]

00:11:11   and I have no complaints about that's [TS]

00:11:13   the thing is it in the big picture I'd [TS]

00:11:14   be like what really happened but in the [TS]

00:11:16   little picture i would always find in [TS]

00:11:18   every episode a half-dozen scenes of [TS]

00:11:21   different like cast members or clones [TS]

00:11:23   interacting with each other that i loved [TS]

00:11:25   i just the plot kind of let me call this [TS]

00:11:27   you know I completely agree and they're [TS]

00:11:29   losing the thread just like in the first [TS]

00:11:31   season they're so easy to do it four [TS]

00:11:33   seasons you like what some of the deal [TS]

00:11:34   with these clones like that's the thread [TS]

00:11:36   that pulls you along right and then you [TS]

00:11:37   have a crisis cliffhanger at the end of [TS]

00:11:39   it and the second season I guess we're [TS]

00:11:41   still trying to find out what the what [TS]

00:11:43   the clone is so the clones is sort of [TS]

00:11:45   like what is I mean eventually they [TS]

00:11:47   found eventually the end like oh you [TS]

00:11:49   know there's this thing and they want to [TS]

00:11:50   hear involved like it eventually found [TS]

00:11:52   something but there was a lot of just [TS]

00:11:54   kinda like you said running around in [TS]

00:11:55   circles in the middle part and you start [TS]

00:11:57   once you start to ask yourself what's [TS]

00:11:59   these people's motivations for the board [TS]

00:12:01   is this group what is that you just have [TS]

00:12:02   you have to know what that is otherwise [TS]

00:12:03   the story doesn't work and you have the [TS]

00:12:05   character seems for great and it on the [TS]

00:12:06   small level you know what this person [TS]

00:12:08   wants right now is to figure out what [TS]

00:12:10   back to do about this other person that [TS]

00:12:12   is causing a problem for them but that [TS]

00:12:13   is that small stakes in the big stakes [TS]

00:12:15   very often in episode it would be over [TS]

00:12:17   now be like what are they all trying to [TS]

00:12:19   do again and you're like I don't [TS]

00:12:21   remember but in some ways like and care [TS]

00:12:23   that much but it makes it less you know [TS]

00:12:25   the first season definitely had a [TS]

00:12:26   tractor pulling you along because you [TS]

00:12:28   wanted to know what the deal was with [TS]

00:12:30   the clones basically yeah also the the [TS]

00:12:32   week we sort of find who we think is at [TS]

00:12:34   least one of the key people in creating [TS]

00:12:36   clones and he's sitting right there and [TS]

00:12:38   I get the feeling like somebody should [TS]

00:12:40   ask him tell us the whole story of why [TS]

00:12:42   this happened and where does this DNA [TS]

00:12:43   come from and all that [TS]

00:12:45   instead it's like we need your five and [TS]

00:12:47   a quarter inch floppy disks from your [TS]

00:12:49   Apple to know computers running to kill [TS]

00:12:51   you to like that ask him first before [TS]

00:12:53   you come and and that there's probably [TS]

00:12:55   he has all these answers that the [TS]

00:12:57   producers just quite frankly don't know [TS]

00:12:59   or don't want to deal with so they [TS]

00:13:00   didn't label they've got someone who's [TS]

00:13:02   incredibly knowledgeable about the [TS]

00:13:03   history and the sort of don't want him [TS]

00:13:06   you know don't want to break the spell [TS]

00:13:08   because I'm and that was frustrating and [TS]

00:13:11   it just a minor way it's like what [TS]

00:13:13   what's the mystery here and I like the [TS]

00:13:14   complexity of the fact that they're like [TS]

00:13:16   three sort of subgroups fighting over [TS]

00:13:19   information about these clones there's [TS]

00:13:22   the another crazy doomsday cult and [TS]

00:13:23   there's like different parts of the diet [TS]

00:13:24   at institute but on another level it's [TS]

00:13:27   sort of like you know I don't you just [TS]

00:13:29   it's so easy to lose track and be like [TS]

00:13:31   who are these people and then they're [TS]

00:13:32   like double crossing each other and like [TS]

00:13:34   I have no idea what I'm even watching [TS]

00:13:36   here [TS]

00:13:36   yeah they don't need to do that because [TS]

00:13:38   they can always add another clone like [TS]

00:13:39   they have the out on this show is that [TS]

00:13:41   like you don't need to make this complex [TS]

00:13:43   5.party kind of you know Battle of the [TS]

00:13:45   five armies situation going on you don't [TS]

00:13:47   you can make it a simple [TS]

00:13:48   good-versus-evil battle because anytime [TS]

00:13:50   you need to mix it up just parachuted in [TS]

00:13:52   another clone we all love it and it adds [TS]

00:13:55   you know a new angle to think of Paris [TS]

00:13:56   rather than in a group of clothes like [TS]

00:13:58   you always have that out on the show so [TS]

00:14:00   it seems unnecessary for them to take [TS]

00:14:02   the existing characters and split them [TS]

00:14:03   up into multiple teams I think the part [TS]

00:14:06   that I felt was the most run around with [TS]

00:14:07   the rehab part like that just didn't [TS]

00:14:09   really do anything for me as far as a [TS]

00:14:12   and yet the final payoff with with sarah [TS]

00:14:15   having to pretend and they're dragging [TS]

00:14:18   Vic's drug body through glitter was [TS]

00:14:22   hilarious right but now that was that [TS]

00:14:25   was to entry annoyed when it gets really [TS]

00:14:28   kind of slapstick e that with those of [TS]

00:14:30   the episodes that I sort of jump off for [TS]

00:14:32   a little bit which usually do have to do [TS]

00:14:34   with Allison and Allison pretending to [TS]

00:14:35   be somebody else or somebody else [TS]

00:14:37   pretending to be her did you not like [TS]

00:14:38   the episode last year where they have a [TS]

00:14:39   party at alison's house and she was [TS]

00:14:41   torturing her husband that was my least [TS]

00:14:43   like quite a bit [TS]

00:14:45   well that's a shame I I thought that was [TS]

00:14:47   my thing that I'm not really i'm not [TS]

00:14:49   really a Donnie fan either he done he [TS]

00:14:51   wasn't i wasn't i am I can't do any more [TS]

00:14:54   and more [TS]

00:14:55   he's he's turning into something at [TS]

00:14:57   least a little bit more interesting i [TS]

00:14:58   like the fact that he was a monitor but [TS]

00:15:00   was being lied to like they kept walking [TS]

00:15:02   that line and it's an interesting [TS]

00:15:03   resolution to say was he a spy or was he [TS]

00:15:05   a dummy he was both yeah that's fine [TS]

00:15:07   that's what ya doin that now he's coming [TS]

00:15:10   out the other side of the dimension of [TS]

00:15:12   dye can buy Donnie as a you know a tough [TS]

00:15:15   guy Adam I don't want to spoil the [TS]

00:15:17   ending I don't think Donnie I don't [TS]

00:15:18   think I think johnny is who he is and [TS]

00:15:20   any pretensions he has to be something [TS]

00:15:22   else will always be real back but you [TS]

00:15:24   know that it is a fascinating [TS]

00:15:26   it is a fascinating thing I i had what a [TS]

00:15:28   strange show you know what i did i did i [TS]

00:15:31   get a touch of the x-files from where [TS]

00:15:32   it's like let's just throw in some [TS]

00:15:34   conspiracies and double-crossing and [TS]

00:15:35   moles and things like no no no [TS]

00:15:38   no i don't i don't want that that's not [TS]

00:15:40   why i'm watching the show I am [TS]

00:15:42   fascinated by the idea where these uh [TS]

00:15:44   you know how these women differ and [TS]

00:15:46   where they come from and why Beth not [TS]

00:15:48   bad why Sarah is able to have a child [TS]

00:15:50   and I I keep waiting for a scene where [TS]

00:15:54   they find an old picture and she's in it [TS]

00:15:56   and it's the whoever the original that [TS]

00:15:59   they use the model save every season [TS]

00:16:02   four seasons yeah i know and you get [TS]

00:16:04   ahead of me well that's what I think [TS]

00:16:06   they have the guy not tell say anything [TS]

00:16:07   interesting is because then he'd give [TS]

00:16:10   away plot twist later which like not get [TS]

00:16:13   ahead of us remain silent sir we don't [TS]

00:16:15   want to know and you can't hope they're [TS]

00:16:17   there listening now and go hey that's a [TS]

00:16:20   good idea for seasonal yeah I imagine [TS]

00:16:22   that i mean the the nice thing and [TS]

00:16:24   something that there were recording this [TS]

00:16:26   before the season finale so you know [TS]

00:16:28   presumably will be some interesting [TS]

00:16:29   things that happened in episode 10 but [TS]

00:16:32   one of the things that I really like [TS]

00:16:34   about this show is that you can kill off [TS]

00:16:38   characters if they played by tatiana [TS]

00:16:42   maslany you can kill off characters with [TS]

00:16:44   no worry because you're not getting rid [TS]

00:16:46   of the actress you can introduce [TS]

00:16:48   characters but you can also kill them [TS]

00:16:50   off and so there's some jeopardy like [TS]

00:16:52   Sarah doesn't have to survive you know [TS]

00:16:55   that that's interesting I mean I doubt [TS]

00:16:57   they would kill her because she really [TS]

00:16:58   is sort of the main character but they [TS]

00:16:59   could because you know it wouldn't [TS]

00:17:02   it's about all the clones and that's [TS]

00:17:04   interesting that that gives them a level [TS]

00:17:07   of of unexpected possibilities that uh [TS]

00:17:10   that most shows don't have yeah I was [TS]

00:17:13   kind of hoping Cosima I don't I don't [TS]

00:17:14   you know we don't know how this ends but [TS]

00:17:16   if Cosima were to die I that I think you [TS]

00:17:20   they could do that in a way that adds [TS]

00:17:22   emotional heft to the show rather than [TS]

00:17:24   just like I mean they kind of killed [TS]

00:17:26   Elena but not really and I'm kinda glad [TS]

00:17:27   you came back because I like her I think [TS]

00:17:29   she's interesting but if Cosima dies [TS]

00:17:32   like if they really want to make a rift [TS]

00:17:34   in the clones having Cosima dire having [TS]

00:17:36   that go like it seems like it's headed [TS]

00:17:38   towards a a reasonable resolution but [TS]

00:17:41   that was one way the season could have [TS]

00:17:43   gone and probably know we'll still go it [TS]

00:17:45   that would add a harder edge to it but I [TS]

00:17:47   considering people are being drugged and [TS]

00:17:49   falling into glitter maybe that's what [TS]

00:17:51   that season's gonna go [TS]

00:17:52   no I think they like I think they like [TS]

00:17:53   to to vacillate between all the extremes [TS]

00:17:57   and explore all the different [TS]

00:17:57   possibilities it [TS]

00:17:59   that's one of a kind of crazy things [TS]

00:18:00   about the show that i like but yeah I i [TS]

00:18:02   agree i think i think killing one of [TS]

00:18:04   these characters me what makes me [TS]

00:18:06   reluctant to mention this is that we [TS]

00:18:08   thought that they had killed off one of [TS]

00:18:09   the clones at the end of last season and [TS]

00:18:11   they didn't they brought her back [TS]

00:18:13   you can't kill a man who walk away from [TS]

00:18:15   that farm is one of my favorite scenes [TS]

00:18:17   the holes here he's don't don't invite [TS]

00:18:19   him into your farm just got to the scene [TS]

00:18:21   with her in the bar is just fantastic i [TS]

00:18:25   love that scene it's so bizarre and and [TS]

00:18:27   then she beats up a biker gang and it's [TS]

00:18:31   great my sister just great just great [TS]

00:18:34   stuff anything more about orphan black [TS]

00:18:36   it's a fun show people should watch a [TS]

00:18:37   BBC america first season streaming [TS]

00:18:40   second Street season will eventually [TS]

00:18:42   stream somewhere who knows when because [TS]

00:18:44   they were really slow about the first [TS]

00:18:45   time and quite simply that you know [TS]

00:18:48   maybe the best performance going on on [TS]

00:18:51   TV right now if you add all of the [TS]

00:18:53   performances together or certainly if [TS]

00:18:56   not the best certainly the most [TS]

00:18:57   interesting because just watching her [TS]

00:18:59   watching her do what she does even if [TS]

00:19:01   you can poke holes in my girl she [TS]

00:19:03   doesn't do the accent that well or [TS]

00:19:04   whatever just had taken as a sum total [TS]

00:19:06   of like all that she's doing it you have [TS]

00:19:09   to forgive any any accent for tables or [TS]

00:19:11   manners and things or anything like that [TS]

00:19:13   because it really as a whole it's [TS]

00:19:15   fascinating and amazing and just keeps [TS]

00:19:17   you riveted yea oh yea even even when [TS]

00:19:20   the plot doesn't quite hold together you [TS]

00:19:22   still you just like how does she do that [TS]

00:19:24   then you [TS]

00:19:25   yeah yeah because like the I've had the [TS]

00:19:28   same feeling this season but it's just [TS]

00:19:30   spectacular watch that tape rope of [TS]

00:19:32   going back and forth [TS]

00:19:33   yeah well that and that's that's the [TS]

00:19:35   thing that gets me about the show is [TS]

00:19:36   that you can either enjoy he when the [TS]

00:19:39   plot is lagging you can enjoy the [TS]

00:19:41   performances or you can enjoy some of [TS]

00:19:43   the individual character interactions [TS]

00:19:46   and there's always something worth [TS]

00:19:48   watching on this show which is that's [TS]

00:19:51   pretty good also thumbs up on not trying [TS]

00:19:54   to do anymore sort of split-screen let's [TS]

00:19:58   make two of the same actress [TS]

00:20:00   interact with each other because they [TS]

00:20:02   don't have the budget to do that well [TS]

00:20:03   and they tried to do it in season one a [TS]

00:20:05   couple times to show off and it's like [TS]

00:20:06   just not we get it just don't bother [TS]

00:20:08   just leave them don't have them talk to [TS]

00:20:10   each other don't have to hand things to [TS]

00:20:11   each other and when you have them hugs [TS]

00:20:13   and we only see the back of someone's [TS]

00:20:14   head we know it's like just just don't [TS]

00:20:16   but they do when they do it they do it [TS]

00:20:18   really well there was a the there's a [TS]

00:20:20   scene in the last episode of season one [TS]

00:20:21   where it's a tracking shot and and [TS]

00:20:25   they're 22 of the same actress and her [TS]

00:20:27   three of the same actress in it but it's [TS]

00:20:29   a tracking shot it's like they don't [TS]

00:20:30   know they're showing off but I like it [TS]

00:20:32   yeah I never they do that I started to [TS]

00:20:34   see the sun's a little bit like I it [TS]

00:20:36   pulls me out of it is like I know what [TS]

00:20:38   you're doing I know you're proud of so [TS]

00:20:39   this season they only did like one scene [TS]

00:20:41   right there someone handed something to [TS]

00:20:43   someone will move on to another show in [TS]

00:20:47   just a moment but first I want to tell [TS]

00:22:46   I learned some stuff about dynamic HTML [TS]

00:22:49   and CSS and responsive design while i [TS]

00:22:53   was building my new the incomparable [TS]

00:22:56   dot-com I set some breakpoints now it [TS]

00:22:59   looks different on iPads and phones and [TS]

00:23:03   there's a responsive design course at [TS]

00:23:04   lynda.com that's how I was able to get [TS]

00:23:06   that done so here's a cool thing [TS]

00:23:51   some other stuff true [TS]

00:23:53   okay what-what bring them bring them out [TS]

00:23:56   what would you guys like to talk about [TS]

00:23:57   well you know I criticized in the fall [TS]

00:24:01   and I've made fun of it all year long [TS]

00:24:03   until recently [TS]

00:24:06   what does everyone think happened by the [TS]

00:24:09   end of this of the season with HTC [TS]

00:24:11   shield him that's still on it is pick up [TS]

00:24:15   my headphones i stopped watching at the [TS]

00:24:17   point when the captain america movie [TS]

00:24:19   takes over and I've seen the captain [TS]

00:24:20   america movie but I'm [TS]

00:24:21   patiently waiting for life to see it to [TS]

00:24:23   move on again we're gonna we're gonna [TS]

00:24:24   try to be as light as possible with the [TS]

00:24:26   splicer I this is what i would say [TS]

00:24:28   because we did it we are fall TV episode [TS]

00:24:31   we pretty much toward a new hole and i [TS]

00:24:34   would say be interested for your new [TS]

00:24:37   perspectives on this icy like about 10 [TS]

00:24:39   episodes in they started to right the [TS]

00:24:41   ship there was actually an episode where [TS]

00:24:42   I felt like I knew who the characters [TS]

00:24:44   were and that i actually was rooting for [TS]

00:24:46   them and then from there I felt like [TS]

00:24:49   they they continued to show improvement [TS]

00:24:51   to the point where in the last two or [TS]

00:24:54   three weeks I was you know really [TS]

00:24:57   excited to watch it like the day it was [TS]

00:24:58   on from from the point where I'd left [TS]

00:25:01   like four or five episodes pile up and [TS]

00:25:03   was watching them when you know my wife [TS]

00:25:06   was out or something and I was just like [TS]

00:25:08   well I want shield she doesn't want to [TS]

00:25:10   see it and then that was when it started [TS]

00:25:12   it it a midseason it started to turn [TS]

00:25:15   around and I don't know quite what they [TS]

00:25:16   did [TS]

00:25:17   other than that the character started [TS]

00:25:18   just feel more differentiated and and [TS]

00:25:20   you know I you could say was part of a [TS]

00:25:22   plan it didn't feel like a plan to me it [TS]

00:25:24   felt like they know episodes to actually [TS]

00:25:26   figure out what the heck the show was [TS]

00:25:27   going to be and then maybe because they [TS]

00:25:30   had something they were working toward [TS]

00:25:31   which is the captain america plot twist [TS]

00:25:33   thing but suddenly it was a totally [TS]

00:25:35   totally different I mean it's not like [TS]

00:25:37   the best show on TV by any stretch but [TS]

00:25:39   actually an enjoyable show which it [TS]

00:25:42   wasn't the first nine episodes or [TS]

00:25:44   whatever you mentioned the x-files [TS]

00:25:45   before like ended how they kept [TS]

00:25:48   introducing a lot of months pull things [TS]

00:25:50   along and in this case I think agents of [TS]

00:25:52   shield benefited from a little bit of [TS]

00:25:54   the sprinkling of the x-files dust in [TS]

00:25:56   there but they introduced was I fewer [TS]

00:25:59   standalone episodes where I guess they [TS]

00:26:02   were trying to establish the characters [TS]

00:26:03   and failing like early on and a couple [TS]

00:26:06   of Arc things you know like the the [TS]

00:26:08   mysterious origin of our favorite [TS]

00:26:10   character and the ark things that led [TS]

00:26:12   into captain American Ark things can be [TS]

00:26:14   tiresome and they certainly were in X [TS]

00:26:15   Files but I think the show needed a [TS]

00:26:17   little bit of it to pull it forward [TS]

00:26:18   otherwise like in the beginning I [TS]

00:26:19   thought I was watching a bunch of these [TS]

00:26:21   good-looking people who I don't care [TS]

00:26:23   about run around and have silly [TS]

00:26:24   adventures that are very silly there [TS]

00:26:26   needs to be and like Doctor Who there [TS]

00:26:28   needs to be something some kind of arc [TS]

00:26:29   for the season some kind of underlying [TS]

00:26:31   story to carry you through the [TS]

00:26:33   their episodes and to be like the [TS]

00:26:35   underlying tension and that thus far [TS]

00:26:36   having that up right up to the captain [TS]

00:26:38   america movie which I guess I've seen [TS]

00:26:39   that is what's keeping me watching the [TS]

00:26:41   show I not so much the characters i [TS]

00:26:44   think i'm not interested in the [TS]

00:26:45   characters if i don't think they have [TS]

00:26:46   something to do or some goal to work [TS]

00:26:48   towards see I feel like sky was the [TS]

00:26:50   worst character on the show for the [TS]

00:26:51   first ten episodes and in in like [TS]

00:26:54   episode 10 or 11 somewhere in there [TS]

00:26:56   suddenly I found myself actually liking [TS]

00:26:59   her and it was actually the episode [TS]

00:27:01   where they she gets shot and made I was [TS]

00:27:04   like wait a second I finally like her [TS]

00:27:06   and you kill it but that was like [TS]

00:27:07   finally they did something with her to [TS]

00:27:09   make her interesting and you don't worry [TS]

00:27:10   if you want something a hyperbaric [TS]

00:27:11   chamber that a Syrian shot wounds [TS]

00:27:14   instantly well that you inject them with [TS]

00:27:16   magical you know stuff to that I find [TS]

00:27:19   more believable than quick get her to [TS]

00:27:20   the chamber [TS]

00:27:21   yeah yeah I mean it's almost as if [TS]

00:27:24   there's that moment where they they had [TS]

00:27:27   worked ahead of time and had you know [TS]

00:27:28   several scripts ready to shoot and then [TS]

00:27:31   they came in and said oh we you guys [TS]

00:27:33   need to see Captain America and what [TS]

00:27:35   we're going to do and it's almost as if [TS]

00:27:37   that flip the switch not that they were [TS]

00:27:40   even working towards that twist but just [TS]

00:27:43   to say okay we're not just this weird [TS]

00:27:46   little show we are part of a larger [TS]

00:27:48   universe of things going on and we do [TS]

00:27:50   actually have to have some connection to [TS]

00:27:52   it we can't just be oh yeah I remember [TS]

00:27:56   you just missed the Hulk he was just [TS]

00:27:58   here and you know it did there has to be [TS]

00:28:01   something that ties it into the larger [TS]

00:28:03   universe and you know so going back and [TS]

00:28:07   watching because I mean I gave up before [TS]

00:28:09   10 episodes I i gave it more episodes [TS]

00:28:12   that i usually give a new show that [TS]

00:28:13   disappoints me and once it started [TS]

00:28:18   getting interesting and and then Jason [TS]

00:28:20   you're one of the ones who said you [TS]

00:28:21   should watch this again i'm alright then [TS]

00:28:24   I went back and sort of i was curious to [TS]

00:28:26   see that progression and go all right [TS]

00:28:28   how did they do that because yeah it's [TS]

00:28:30   still not the greatest show on [TS]

00:28:32   television by any stretch but the last [TS]

00:28:36   five or six episodes if it was the same [TS]

00:28:39   thing it's a show i actually wanted to [TS]

00:28:41   watch the day it was on and I didn't [TS]

00:28:44   want to get spoiled they didn't want to [TS]

00:28:45   fight [TS]

00:28:46   out what happened before I watched it [TS]

00:28:48   and I really enjoyed the last two [TS]

00:28:52   episodes and everyone can be no spoilers [TS]

00:28:55   but just the resolution for the big band [TS]

00:28:59   of the last story arc is the joss whedon [TS]

00:29:02   assist thing Joss Whedon's productions [TS]

00:29:05   have done in years it just put the [TS]

00:29:07   biggest smile on my face [TS]

00:29:09   yeah I feel like I feel like they [TS]

00:29:10   suddenly went to the the joss whedon [TS]

00:29:13   playbook for ya yi at the end of the [TS]

00:29:16   season which makes you wonder why we and [TS]

00:29:19   I've heard people who are fans of of [TS]

00:29:21   Marvel stuff say oh well they know they [TS]

00:29:23   wanted to set this up and then and then [TS]

00:29:25   you know you would [TS]

00:29:26   Coulson's really boring at the beginning [TS]

00:29:28   because they want to resolve historic [TS]

00:29:30   market like well no he's just really [TS]

00:29:31   boring [TS]

00:29:32   that's a terrible acts like malpractice [TS]

00:29:33   to say let's start out and be really bad [TS]

00:29:35   so that then we can surprise people by [TS]

00:29:38   being better later no you don't do that [TS]

00:29:40   you know you come out strong and they [TS]

00:29:42   didn't it is ready the Looney Tunes [TS]

00:29:45   thing where where bugs is watching Daffy [TS]

00:29:47   do something and he says when will that [TS]

00:29:50   silly duck ever remember he can fly and [TS]

00:29:53   Daffy falls is not this time [TS]

00:29:55   ok and it was it was almost as if you [TS]

00:29:57   know when will they remember that every [TS]

00:29:59   Whedon's producing this coming out and [TS]

00:30:02   all of a sudden it's like oh look at [TS]

00:30:04   that but i feel like i got better and [TS]

00:30:05   I'm looking forward to it and they're [TS]

00:30:07   also doing me that they're going to do [TS]

00:30:08   the agent Carter show [TS]

00:30:12   yeah which I'm looking forward to so I [TS]

00:30:14   you know I I they got me back but it was [TS]

00:30:17   it was a close thing because it really [TS]

00:30:19   was the first half of the season was [TS]

00:30:20   really really bad at it was really big [TS]

00:30:24   yeah don't watch it just know start with [TS]

00:30:26   episode 9 or 10 or so night Erica you [TS]

00:30:29   have something I the only other show [TS]

00:30:31   that I have kept up on since you know I [TS]

00:30:34   moved from one country to the other [TS]

00:30:35   which takes up a bit of time yeah the [TS]

00:30:38   only thing I sort of manage to keep over [TS]

00:30:40   that whole time was a season 5 of The [TS]

00:30:42   Good Wife which i stumbledupon when i [TS]

00:30:45   was here in Canada last summer like the [TS]

00:30:48   beginning of the long season and it was [TS]

00:30:51   on demand so I watched a few episodes in [TS]

00:30:54   a row and I liked it and then went back [TS]

00:30:55   to the states I kinda lost track of it [TS]

00:30:57   because we didn't have cable or a PBR [TS]

00:30:59   any [TS]

00:30:59   think so i forgot about it until people [TS]

00:31:02   on Twitter started going crazy with the [TS]

00:31:05   people i follow a very nice they don't [TS]

00:31:06   actually spoil things but they do that [TS]

00:31:08   thing where were they freak out about [TS]

00:31:10   stuff without spoiling it so you know [TS]

00:31:12   something happened and I know a few [TS]

00:31:14   people who watch The Good Wife pretty [TS]

00:31:16   regularly and they were like oh my god I [TS]

00:31:17   can't believe they did that and I was [TS]

00:31:19   like oh I wonder what they did and a few [TS]

00:31:22   weeks later I came back up to Canada [TS]

00:31:23   turns out enough of the episodes were [TS]

00:31:25   still on demand that could pick up from [TS]

00:31:27   where i left off and catch up and find [TS]

00:31:30   out what the holy crap moment was and it [TS]

00:31:34   was it lived up to the the crazy Twitter [TS]

00:31:36   hyper it was pretty intense not going to [TS]

00:31:39   spoil it but I was very glad that I [TS]

00:31:41   jumped back on because I've always been [TS]

00:31:43   a sucker for legal courtroom dramas mean [TS]

00:31:46   way back to like LA Law sucker for that [TS]

00:31:49   so there's a little more I think [TS]

00:31:51   external there's a lot of politics stuff [TS]

00:31:54   in here which I'm not digging quite as [TS]

00:31:56   much but I really really enjoyed this [TS]

00:31:58   season and I had never watched any of [TS]

00:32:00   this show before so this is the first [TS]

00:32:02   time that I jumped on was the beginning [TS]

00:32:04   of season five and I I don't feel any [TS]

00:32:07   interest in particularly going back in [TS]

00:32:08   and watching where it came from I'm [TS]

00:32:10   happy with where I jumped in and i will [TS]

00:32:12   just kind of continue forward from here [TS]

00:32:13   until if they get a forecasted that [TS]

00:32:17   perhaps next season might be a little [TS]

00:32:18   bit more on the politics I'd than the [TS]

00:32:21   courtroom side and if it goes too far in [TS]

00:32:23   that direction i may end up dropping off [TS]

00:32:25   but for now i am highly impressed at the [TS]

00:32:27   quality of the writing and the quality [TS]

00:32:29   of the performances they're getting for [TS]

00:32:31   a show it has 20 some episodes per [TS]

00:32:33   season as opposed to you know your [TS]

00:32:35   orphan Black's your games of Thrones [TS]

00:32:37   sighs well pluralized orphans orphans [TS]

00:32:41   black game I was not I was going to [TS]

00:32:45   bring up a The Good Wife as well which I [TS]

00:32:47   bring I brought up last time we did the [TS]

00:32:49   fall season yes cast and nobody watched [TS]

00:32:52   already a very happy [TS]

00:32:55   Erica get my wife and here she watches [TS]

00:32:57   it I'm in the room when it's on [TS]

00:32:58   sometimes yeah [TS]

00:33:00   make sure you pay attention job it's a [TS]

00:33:02   fantastic show said julianna margulies [TS]

00:33:04   show right [TS]

00:33:05   yeah advance it is and I don't even like [TS]

00:33:06   her but she's really good [TS]

00:33:09   it lives up to the I'm in the room hype [TS]

00:33:11   that's how i started watching it because [TS]

00:33:14   i was in the room when my wife was [TS]

00:33:16   watching it and I couldn't that [TS]

00:33:18   marketing plan [TS]

00:33:19   apparently that's what i lure at least [TS]

00:33:20   men I guess into it [TS]

00:33:22   that's really good finally acted well [TS]

00:33:26   written right and a shocking surprise at [TS]

00:33:29   the end of the season that erica has not [TS]

00:33:31   ruined so i will not either also [TS]

00:33:33   excellent use of music at the beginning [TS]

00:33:35   of every episode there's a montage of [TS]

00:33:38   some sort of that kind of the sets you [TS]

00:33:40   up for what's going to happen in the [TS]

00:33:42   episode and this is another show that [TS]

00:33:44   has you know an arc or multiple arcs [TS]

00:33:46   that sort of span multiple episodes our [TS]

00:33:48   whole season but then you also get the [TS]

00:33:50   the the one-off plot that happens in [TS]

00:33:52   that episode and and that gets set up at [TS]

00:33:55   the beginning with a montage to music [TS]

00:33:57   which is always just unbelievable it's a [TS]

00:33:59   it's a cold open and by the time you get [TS]

00:34:01   to the credits the opening credits [TS]

00:34:03   you're just really really excited to [TS]

00:34:05   watch the rest of the episode usually [TS]

00:34:07   takes about 20 minutes to get to the [TS]

00:34:08   opening credits but yeah that's my [TS]

00:34:10   clinical open just at michael j fox is [TS]

00:34:13   on it so what more do you need to his [TS]

00:34:15   sitcom got cancelled so he shunted over [TS]

00:34:17   the good wife [TS]

00:34:18   yeah he traded up in ya way with no I [TS]

00:34:22   was gonna get you [TS]

00:34:23   what other one of the show's good wife [TS]

00:34:24   is a good one Scott you have something [TS]

00:34:26   that you will want to recommend I i [TS]

00:34:30   watch veep on HBO quite entertaining oh [TS]

00:34:33   yeah with the Julia Louie Dreyfus [TS]

00:34:36   they're kinda could remember hitting the [TS]

00:34:38   lady from seinfeld I like vice president [TS]

00:34:41   lady from seinfeld yes that's right [TS]

00:34:42   that's a great show and that that's a [TS]

00:34:44   follow on from the thick of it which was [TS]

00:34:47   the British to show the same writer [TS]

00:34:49   basically the same creative team and [TS]

00:34:52   that was the show starring peter capaldi [TS]

00:34:54   who was the new doctor who and that that [TS]

00:34:56   is on hulu and is hilarious we watching [TS]

00:34:59   the vestibular that is a fantastic [TS]

00:35:00   filthy language wise anyway political [TS]

00:35:05   series and veep is essentially the [TS]

00:35:06   continuation of that except said in [TS]

00:35:08   America instead of him [TS]

00:35:10   and Britain that's a good one is good [TS]

00:35:14   and Tony Hale is very funny oh yeah yeah [TS]

00:35:17   yeah the whole case and a clubski from [TS]

00:35:19   my girl all grown up is on that show you [TS]

00:35:24   remember micro the mhm yeah she's so she [TS]

00:35:27   says bad words on be this is a lot of [TS]

00:35:31   bad it's a little strange [TS]

00:35:32   it's a little peculiar you know I i [TS]

00:35:35   actually speaking of those HBO comedies [TS]

00:35:37   I i find i want to mention Silicon [TS]

00:35:39   Valley only because i find it funny and [TS]

00:35:41   yet morally reprehensible at the same [TS]

00:35:44   time I find a less money than you do but [TS]

00:35:46   agree on the other part [TS]

00:35:47   alright fair enough i gave it an episode [TS]

00:35:50   and a half and that was all i could take [TS]

00:35:51   its you don't do it for me [TS]

00:35:53   the jokes I i like my judges sense of [TS]

00:35:56   humor i think there are funny jokes and [TS]

00:36:00   I think that it does a good job of [TS]

00:36:02   satirizing some things about the [TS]

00:36:04   technology industry that said there are [TS]

00:36:07   vast swathes of untouched things to [TS]

00:36:10   satirize and I think it says something [TS]

00:36:12   about the show that it doesn't try and [TS]

00:36:15   the oh no I don't think he knows those [TS]

00:36:17   things like yeah it's like such a [TS]

00:36:19   caricature of what you would imagine so [TS]

00:36:21   like values like but clearly not written [TS]

00:36:23   by anybody who actually knows what it's [TS]

00:36:24   like it's like you said there are so [TS]

00:36:25   many things ripe for parody and satire [TS]

00:36:27   but he's not hitting those he's hitting [TS]

00:36:29   like I mean maybe that will make the [TS]

00:36:31   show successful it's like for people who [TS]

00:36:33   don't know what the technology world is [TS]

00:36:36   like this is what they imagine it might [TS]

00:36:38   be like I'm going to satirize the thing [TS]

00:36:39   that they imagined but that's not what [TS]

00:36:41   I'm looking for and and and the the [TS]

00:36:43   treatment of feet i would say the [TS]

00:36:45   treatment of female characters in the [TS]

00:36:46   show but honestly whatever and here's [TS]

00:36:48   yeah there's there was an assistant and [TS]

00:36:51   then later there was a stripper and then [TS]

00:36:54   like eight like seven episodes later [TS]

00:36:57   there was one of the characters [TS]

00:36:58   girlfriend from from Canada actually [TS]

00:37:00   believe and at yes so yeah we got a [TS]

00:37:04   girlfriend a stripper and an assistant [TS]

00:37:06   and you know honestly if there was ever [TS]

00:37:08   anything right for satire the way women [TS]

00:37:10   are treated and technology industry [TS]

00:37:12   would be right there and there are women [TS]

00:37:14   on the writing staff of silicon valley [TS]

00:37:15   which we really baffles me and they have [TS]

00:37:17   this throw one of the characters in the [TS]

00:37:18   house that works for this company is [TS]

00:37:20   that this throwaway character who has [TS]

00:37:22   almost no line [TS]

00:37:23   and uh why that couldn't have been a [TS]

00:37:26   woman and they couldn't have actually [TS]

00:37:28   spent the time satirizing how these [TS]

00:37:29   because the characters are behaving as [TS]

00:37:32   one might expect Silicon Valley type [TS]

00:37:34   characters to behave and if you put a [TS]

00:37:35   woman in the house with them they would [TS]

00:37:37   do lots of terrible things that could be [TS]

00:37:39   ripe for good satire but it's just not [TS]

00:37:41   there [TS]

00:37:41   hey there there are no women in the show [TS]

00:37:43   and it's yeah it's just it's too bad [TS]

00:37:46   because it's it's funny but I i have to [TS]

00:37:49   roll my eyes and shake my head and well [TS]

00:37:52   as I wanted because it is a Miss it's [TS]

00:37:54   funny but it's a real real missed [TS]

00:37:56   opportunity to be funnier and more [TS]

00:37:58   relevant so yeah I think my problem with [TS]

00:38:00   it was just the the fact that for me [TS]

00:38:03   whatever show i'm watching there has to [TS]

00:38:04   be at least one character that I can [TS]

00:38:06   root for and get behind and I didn't [TS]

00:38:08   like anybody so that just did fell flat [TS]

00:38:12   for me [TS]

00:38:12   yeah thinly drawn like even the male [TS]

00:38:14   characters are not flush down like you [TS]

00:38:16   and i think i think i like the [TS]

00:38:17   characters on king of the hill had more [TS]

00:38:19   depth than let me go to go back to Mike [TS]

00:38:22   Judge well iight or even be position but [TS]

00:38:24   i had no idea he was able to identify [TS]

00:38:26   with more whereas these the male [TS]

00:38:28   characters are just like joe klein [TS]

00:38:30   delivery machines with tiny little [TS]

00:38:33   drippings of enough plot to get you [TS]

00:38:35   through the episode enough emotion to [TS]

00:38:37   like or like one note i mean i watch me [TS]

00:38:40   like four or five episodes or maybe it's [TS]

00:38:42   it picks up after a while but it just [TS]

00:38:44   now it's just not working it's of a kind [TS]

00:38:46   it's always kind of like entourage two [TS]

00:38:49   point O in nerd entourage now [TS]

00:38:52   yeah anyway it yeah I I i have found [TS]

00:38:57   humor in the episodes that I've seen and [TS]

00:39:00   yet i think in the end it's a huge [TS]

00:39:02   missed opportunity and yeah so i just [TS]

00:39:05   want to mention that i don't recommend [TS]

00:39:07   it it's not my recommended why do i do [TS]

00:39:09   have one recommended yes please [TS]

00:39:11   is not is not one that I made fun of [TS]

00:39:12   before one thing that's just sort of [TS]

00:39:16   blown my mind that that anybody got away [TS]

00:39:18   with making it is fargo which finished [TS]

00:39:22   up just as we started recording tonight [TS]

00:39:24   ten episodes of just I don't know it's [TS]

00:39:28   it's sort of this tightrope between [TS]

00:39:29   paying homage to the coen brothers film [TS]

00:39:32   and then answering little coen brothers [TS]

00:39:35   references throughout to other films but [TS]

00:39:38   somehow creating well-rounded [TS]

00:39:41   interesting characters separate from [TS]

00:39:44   that and you don't really think about [TS]

00:39:46   the movie and you get to watch martin [TS]

00:39:48   freeman being evil which is wonderful [TS]

00:39:50   and and billy bob thornton being billy [TS]

00:39:55   bob thornton and but they're just it's i [TS]

00:39:59   mean it's beautifully written [TS]

00:40:00   beautifully shot there's several [TS]

00:40:05   shootouts that are just tremendously [TS]

00:40:08   filmed just beautifully staged one of [TS]

00:40:10   which one of them i I'm I'm sure part of [TS]

00:40:13   it was just to save money but the camera [TS]

00:40:16   stays outside this building the entire [TS]

00:40:18   time and tracks along as billy bob [TS]

00:40:20   thornton is inside shooting people right [TS]

00:40:23   and left and then so you'll see like the [TS]

00:40:25   flash of the above again going off in a [TS]

00:40:27   window and you'll hear the voices and [TS]

00:40:30   everything but you don't see anything [TS]

00:40:32   until someone finally flies out the [TS]

00:40:34   window near the end of the sequence [TS]

00:40:36   it's amazing it's beautifully done and i [TS]

00:40:38   have i'm convinced that was purely a [TS]

00:40:40   budget thing you know they thought hey [TS]

00:40:42   this would be a really cool way to shoot [TS]

00:40:44   up a massacre in a building [TS]

00:40:47   I'm really making it sound fun aren't I [TS]

00:40:50   what else [TS]

00:40:52   no but the the nice thing about it [TS]

00:40:56   unlike a lot of the anti-hero shows you [TS]

00:40:59   know breaking bad was there is a real [TS]

00:41:03   counterbalance of good smart people [TS]

00:41:06   fighting the smart bad people and and [TS]

00:41:11   just sort of a baseline decency to the [TS]

00:41:14   world and see you you really get to see [TS]

00:41:18   the anti-heroes pervert that instead of [TS]

00:41:21   you know going hey go Walter White [TS]

00:41:25   a which i think is really interesting [TS]

00:41:27   compared to a lot of the breaking bad on [TS]

00:41:32   the shield and you all these things were [TS]

00:41:34   you rooting for the bad guy in this one [TS]

00:41:35   theory there are actually good smart [TS]

00:41:38   people to root for [TS]

00:41:39   so it's just it's it's well worth taking [TS]

00:41:42   a look at but i will i will say it is a [TS]

00:41:46   little bit more graphic than it needs to [TS]

00:41:48   be sometimes they could do a lot more [TS]

00:41:50   with off-screen what would you say for [TS]

00:41:53   somebody who really did not like that [TS]

00:41:54   movie still worth checking out [TS]

00:41:58   it's perfect for you well if you like [TS]

00:42:00   martin freeman i do what if you like [TS]

00:42:03   Martin Freeman a lot but you're really [TS]

00:42:04   don't like billy bob thornton don't do [TS]

00:42:07   it don't do it okay [TS]

00:42:09   that's where am I haven't seen it but [TS]

00:42:12   mr. Philip Michaels who by all accounts [TS]

00:42:16   would like a show like this i know he [TS]

00:42:19   watched the pilot and his review of it [TS]

00:42:20   on Twitter largely consisted of the word [TS]

00:42:23   hated like as many times as you treated [TS]

00:42:26   in a tweet across several tweets and [TS]

00:42:28   that scared me off i think we've got [TS]

00:42:29   them all sitting on the DVR and I'm just [TS]

00:42:31   a little concerned because that's what [TS]

00:42:34   that was some real anger that he brought [TS]

00:42:36   to bear on the Fargo pilot it's really [TS]

00:42:39   the fourth episode where it it's [TS]

00:42:40   suddenly because you get to the point [TS]

00:42:42   you go where are they going [TS]

00:42:44   it is is this a thing is this something [TS]

00:42:46   in an episode for it just sort of flip [TS]

00:42:49   again flips the switch and elevates it [TS]

00:42:50   into its own thing yeah so I mean I'm i [TS]

00:42:56   see what he means and and yet it is a in [TS]

00:42:58   response to much it's sort of like they [TS]

00:43:01   could have done a lot more with offstage [TS]

00:43:03   things you know we don't need to see [TS]

00:43:07   graphic violence you know and and so [TS]

00:43:10   that's why i like that but when shootout [TS]

00:43:11   sequence is really amazing because you [TS]

00:43:14   still get all the violence but you don't [TS]

00:43:16   get to see it you you imagine it's going [TS]

00:43:17   to be much worse than anything they [TS]

00:43:19   could show you which is nice so yeah [TS]

00:43:22   it's i would say give it a try if you [TS]

00:43:25   don't like it by the end of the fourth [TS]

00:43:27   one walk away and if you don't like [TS]

00:43:29   billy bob thornton just run right it [TS]

00:43:34   don't even walk up [TS]

00:43:36   now because he's coming for you better [TS]

00:43:38   run did we already talked about the [TS]

00:43:40   walking dead on a previous show no not [TS]

00:43:42   we have talked about that in a while but [TS]

00:43:44   I'm us a full season ba and I'll give [TS]

00:43:48   you the but they be tiny capsule summer [TS]

00:43:50   without spoiling the most recent season [TS]

00:43:51   I i liked it i thought it was a [TS]

00:43:54   refreshing change of pace in terms of [TS]

00:43:55   structuring the episodes i even though [TS]

00:43:58   the arc for the season could also be [TS]

00:44:00   argued that nothing really happens they [TS]

00:44:02   don't go anywhere just such a nice [TS]

00:44:04   change instead of you know if you've [TS]

00:44:06   seen the prison season right Jason 30 so [TS]

00:44:08   that that whole run was kind of like [TS]

00:44:11   started to feel a little claustrophobic [TS]

00:44:12   in terms of this structure and the [TS]

00:44:14   storytelling and how did each episode it [TS]

00:44:16   was just nice to break out of that so I [TS]

00:44:19   think I think you really enjoy the [TS]

00:44:21   season even though it ends on monday [TS]

00:44:22   always been a cliffhanger whatever [TS]

00:44:24   certain way that you know they things [TS]

00:44:26   come to a head in the season ends [TS]

00:44:27   because that's that's the formula which [TS]

00:44:29   is fine i thought that was a little bit [TS]

00:44:31   silly but I i enjoyed the trip of the [TS]

00:44:33   season it felt like if I kind of a [TS]

00:44:35   vacation for you know for a show about [TS]

00:44:37   zombies constantly killing people and [TS]

00:44:38   did we talk about trutech now I was [TS]

00:44:40   going to say I i should mention true [TS]

00:44:41   detective which probably could could [TS]

00:44:43   withstand a series of podcasts on their [TS]

00:44:45   own not just don't even just one episode [TS]

00:44:47   of all on its own to just mention in it [TS]

00:44:50   i'm interested in you know what you [TS]

00:44:52   thought of it and anybody who watched it [TS]

00:44:53   I watched it all like two months after [TS]

00:44:56   it aired and so I didn't have any of the [TS]

00:45:02   water cooler conversation I didn't have [TS]

00:45:04   any of the build-up to the final episode [TS]

00:45:06   we watched it sort of every night or [TS]

00:45:09   every other night over the course of a [TS]

00:45:10   couple weeks and I enjoyed the whole [TS]

00:45:13   thing but I didn't you [TS]

00:45:17   my understanding is that it the last [TS]

00:45:19   episode everybody kind of built up that [TS]

00:45:21   and had theories about what it was going [TS]

00:45:22   to be and all that stuff and then a lot [TS]

00:45:24   of people were disappointed i gotta say [TS]

00:45:26   outside of the the bubble of everybody [TS]

00:45:30   having putting all their expert [TS]

00:45:31   expectations in a basket and just [TS]

00:45:33   watching it is something that you know [TS]

00:45:35   in in a vacuum it was just enjoyable and [TS]

00:45:37   and riveting I couldn't take my eyes off [TS]

00:45:39   of it for the entire run some good [TS]

00:45:42   actors huh [TS]

00:45:43   it's a pretty polly doing you to make [TS]

00:45:45   them only to a one-season commitment you [TS]

00:45:46   get some good actor [TS]

00:45:47   no John I gotta say if you had told me [TS]

00:45:49   like eight years ago that there's going [TS]

00:45:50   to be a really serious HBO drama and [TS]

00:45:52   it's gonna start woody harrelson and [TS]

00:45:54   Matthew McConaughey I'd be like well [TS]

00:45:56   that's a flop is it about like a retired [TS]

00:45:58   baseball player who's gonna take it one [TS]

00:46:00   more try something like that well that [TS]

00:46:02   didn't ask Matthew McConaughey to do [TS]

00:46:04   much other than B Matthew McConaughey [TS]

00:46:05   but he's a really good Matthew [TS]

00:46:06   McConaughey like when he does that thing [TS]

00:46:07   and he's all you know something like [TS]

00:46:10   that [TS]

00:46:10   I thought the I mean that's the thing [TS]

00:46:12   with the people to theories in the [TS]

00:46:13   arcade like wait like everyone knew this [TS]

00:46:16   was going to be a single-season thing [TS]

00:46:17   you know it's not going to be like oh [TS]

00:46:18   this essential mystery is like going to [TS]

00:46:20   like what about this secret [TS]

00:46:21   organizations likely you have time to do [TS]

00:46:23   that you're not going to wrap that up in [TS]

00:46:24   a season the whole show was always about [TS]

00:46:26   the characters and they just focus on [TS]

00:46:27   them relentlessly like it was just the [TS]

00:46:29   cameras were in their faces every you [TS]

00:46:31   know episode after episode there weren't [TS]

00:46:33   even that many characters like our main [TS]

00:46:35   characters and like associated [TS]

00:46:37   girlfriends and bosses and coworkers and [TS]

00:46:39   the handful of antagonists and then you [TS]

00:46:41   know the silent humid Menace of the [TS]

00:46:44   South I guess it worked for me [TS]

00:46:47   yeah it's actually the actors that have [TS]

00:46:49   kept me away from it it's so if it's [TS]

00:46:50   really just focusing on those characters [TS]

00:46:52   I i think i will steer clear because if [TS]

00:46:55   there's one person I like less than [TS]

00:46:57   billy-bob thornton is woody harrelson [TS]

00:46:58   gonna see your black book of actors here [TS]

00:47:00   that you can see that really thought [TS]

00:47:02   about throwing a good actor [TS]

00:47:04   oh he's really good don't get me wrong i [TS]

00:47:05   think he's fantastic at what he does [TS]

00:47:07   it's just almost always I don't like [TS]

00:47:09   that type of character [TS]

00:47:11   same thing with woody harrelson and [TS]

00:47:13   Matthew McConaughey could kind of go [TS]

00:47:15   either way for me i'm not a woody [TS]

00:47:17   harrelson fan at all and I thought it [TS]

00:47:18   was great i thought it was I thought it [TS]

00:47:20   was perfect because i think it's a [TS]

00:47:21   perfect match of material with the [TS]

00:47:23   actors like they're they are perfectly [TS]

00:47:25   cast the the material you know if it [TS]

00:47:27   wasn't written for them than it was [TS]

00:47:30   they were perfectly selected to perform [TS]

00:47:31   it and that that's that goes a long way [TS]

00:47:34   even an even if an actor is not somebody [TS]

00:47:36   you like and you like to still like the [TS]

00:47:39   stuff they do every now and then they [TS]

00:47:41   you know if they're in the right thing [TS]

00:47:43   they can be amazing and Woody [TS]

00:47:46   Harrelson's a perfect example i do I [TS]

00:47:48   don't like him as an actor and he's [TS]

00:47:50   great [TS]

00:47:51   true detective you think true detective [TS]

00:47:53   was kind of at [TS]

00:47:54   aimed at men more or less likely the [TS]

00:47:58   tanks that these characters feel we have [TS]

00:48:00   a responsibility they feel like they [TS]

00:48:02   just it is it is a show the story of [TS]

00:48:04   nurturing man for men like it totally [TS]

00:48:06   spoke to me on that level and I could [TS]

00:48:08   imagine the women not relating as much [TS]

00:48:10   because I mean right that I don't again [TS]

00:48:12   this like the women are just the wives [TS]

00:48:14   in the show but this is all about like [TS]

00:48:15   these people's lives and where they're [TS]

00:48:17   on their lives and the framing device [TS]

00:48:19   was was clever and let's see and like it [TS]

00:48:22   you know I I'd something it was a show [TS]

00:48:24   made for us I think that's why we got [TS]

00:48:25   like you know I I didn't dislike it I [TS]

00:48:30   haven't finished it because I ambivalent [TS]

00:48:32   about it and I don't really care how to [TS]

00:48:34   end so i can be attached three episodes [TS]

00:48:36   maybe an electrode it's got well now I [TS]

00:48:42   don't have to watch the rescue your [TS]

00:48:44   ranks may be of a different stripe Scott [TS]

00:48:46   so maybe that's not speaking the same [TS]

00:48:48   level III think it's it's pretty clear [TS]

00:48:51   that my eggs is quite different than [TS]

00:48:52   those kids everything I like the decay [TS]

00:48:57   and it that these are these are people [TS]

00:48:59   who have a mean it's not like these are [TS]

00:49:01   people who are unraveling the way it's [TS]

00:49:02   structured these are people who have [TS]

00:49:03   unraveled and you're going to talk and [TS]

00:49:06   then and then we need multiple timeframe [TS]

00:49:08   flashback things you're going to see [TS]

00:49:11   them before they unravel door before one [TS]

00:49:14   of them unraveled all the way and before [TS]

00:49:16   the other one unraveled at all and that [TS]

00:49:17   and then you see them fall apart further [TS]

00:49:19   and then you see them after they have [TS]

00:49:22   unraveled and what happens then which I [TS]

00:49:24   i found that fascinating that it's not [TS]

00:49:25   just that the oppressive heat and [TS]

00:49:28   decaying atmosphere of of the bottom of [TS]

00:49:32   the swamp but it's also the oppressive [TS]

00:49:34   decaying lives of these people that and [TS]

00:49:36   they fall apart for a reason like oh [TS]

00:49:38   yeah I go there was you know or it's not [TS]

00:49:40   just like a little give me like all that [TS]

00:49:41   gonna be busy all what you like to get [TS]

00:49:43   there you know it's just their they're [TS]

00:49:45   kinda they start with the same an insane [TS]

00:49:47   world and eventually end up is insane [TS]

00:49:49   man and inseparable the corruption and [TS]

00:49:51   like the evil that's down there and just [TS]

00:49:53   and repressed things in their own lives [TS]

00:49:56   that have just been sitting there like [TS]

00:49:57   time bombs waiting to go off in like the [TS]

00:49:59   combination of them together just causes [TS]

00:50:02   more destruction not an uplifting show [TS]

00:50:05   people I like that it is not i mean i [TS]

00:50:07   like [TS]

00:50:08   the acting I loved the look of it but [TS]

00:50:10   the whole time I kept thinking wow [TS]

00:50:12   you've read a lot of James Lee Burke [TS]

00:50:13   novels awesome you know and and it just [TS]

00:50:17   made me want to see a James Lee Burke [TS]

00:50:19   adaptation done well without that they [TS]

00:50:22   should just move the canada that will [TS]

00:50:23   solve all their problems [TS]

00:50:24   speak ya vermont i mean come on just get [TS]

00:50:28   back out of the above the mason-dixon [TS]

00:50:29   line out of the bayou [TS]

00:50:31   everything will be better yeah no other [TS]

00:50:34   shows before we shift gears to two [TS]

00:50:36   people with swords getting their heads [TS]

00:50:38   cut off [TS]

00:50:38   I still enjoyed a whole season of the [TS]

00:50:41   blacklist how I still haven't watched [TS]

00:50:43   that that's one that's on my list [TS]

00:50:44   because I pretty likely he'll watch [TS]

00:50:46   anything with james spader and it just [TS]

00:50:48   haven't gotten around to it yet he is at [TS]

00:50:49   his james spader easiest yes James [TS]

00:50:52   Spader actually hurts [TS]

00:50:53   matthew mcconaughey and and billy bob [TS]

00:50:56   thornton no i-i've noticing no no that's [TS]

00:50:58   terrible friend [TS]

00:51:00   yeah yeah i like to shake things up well [TS]

00:51:03   if you like Spader being Spader there is [TS]

00:51:05   no nothing more spidery then the [TS]

00:51:07   blacklist it's literally feel Michael [TS]

00:51:10   and I were talking about this because I [TS]

00:51:11   think he recapped this for television [TS]

00:51:13   without pity before it went out of [TS]

00:51:14   business is literally the show is [TS]

00:51:17   there's a lady who works for the I don't [TS]

00:51:21   know CIA FBI ya f FBA OS CBI I don't [TS]

00:51:27   know [TS]

00:51:28   and then there are they're criminals and [TS]

00:51:29   their crimes and they measure of solvent [TS]

00:51:31   literally the point of the show is that [TS]

00:51:33   at some point James Spader appears and [TS]

00:51:36   he does his spider thing and then he [TS]

00:51:39   goes away again and maybe comes back a [TS]

00:51:41   couple of times but it's like literally [TS]

00:51:42   he parachutes in and it's like full [TS]

00:51:44   intense Spader and then he's gone again [TS]

00:51:46   and it's actually man its baby does [TS]

00:51:49   whatever james spader can which is a lot [TS]

00:51:52   and and it's kind of I its kind of [TS]

00:51:55   brilliant because it is it is like hey [TS]

00:51:57   you want to show with james spader in it [TS]

00:51:59   but you don't want to be overwhelmed by [TS]

00:52:00   james spader we got the mixture right [TS]

00:52:02   with the black list and they kind of do [TS]

00:52:03   i have to admit that like certain plot [TS]

00:52:05   points i think have been spoiled for me [TS]

00:52:07   simply because I've seen the promos on [TS]

00:52:09   Canadian television but I'm still [TS]

00:52:12   interested enough that i had planned to [TS]

00:52:14   go back and watch from the beginning [TS]

00:52:15   eventually well it's a lot of fun with a [TS]

00:52:18   lot of gruesome crimes that happen [TS]

00:52:19   james spader being brilliant and it [TS]

00:52:23   towards the end of last couple of [TS]

00:52:25   episodes a lad add some layers and some [TS]

00:52:29   things happen that make it interesting [TS]

00:52:30   and if you use an evil Alan Alda so [TS]

00:52:33   really I'm gonna come on i am sold [TS]

00:52:36   speaking of actors I can't watch reviews [TS]

00:52:38   didn't used to watch i still love [TS]

00:52:41   Brooklyn nine-nine [TS]

00:52:42   despite the fact that I've never been a [TS]

00:52:44   fan of andy samberg yes that's my [TS]

00:52:46   favorite sitcom on the air and I don't [TS]

00:52:48   like Andy Samberg here but he's paying [TS]

00:52:49   attention when it's got a great ensemble [TS]

00:52:51   and I mean just putting him against [TS]

00:52:52   Andre miss scrutiny Samberg [TS]

00:52:55   yeah he's always know James Spader no no [TS]

00:52:58   Franklin nine that would be so much [TS]

00:53:00   better if James Spader were in it haha [TS]

00:53:02   i'll but the office of the office [TS]

00:53:05   mushrooms and andre and Andre Braugher [TS]

00:53:08   is it and I can't believe I'm saying [TS]

00:53:12   this is hilarious in brooklyn and it's [TS]

00:53:14   such a great use of Andre Braugher and [TS]

00:53:16   if you remember him from homicide [TS]

00:53:18   it's just an extra layer because he's [TS]

00:53:20   essentially essentially playing you know [TS]

00:53:22   serious cop character like on homicide [TS]

00:53:24   except he is the straight man for a [TS]

00:53:27   series of ridiculous jokes and it's just [TS]

00:53:30   it's a great i love that show that is my [TS]

00:53:32   that is absolutely far away my favorite [TS]

00:53:34   come on do it knowing how the creator's [TS]

00:53:36   love homicide and the wire [TS]

00:53:39   I mean they've got comedy McNulty vs [TS]

00:53:41   common comedy Pembleton which is yeah [TS]

00:53:43   brilliant you know it's comedy its [TS]

00:53:46   comedy [TS]

00:53:46   yeah definitely worth checking out I [TS]

00:53:50   start watching Bob's Burgers because [TS]

00:53:53   everybody said I should watch it on its [TS]

00:53:54   funny [TS]

00:53:55   yeah I got I got hooked on that last [TS]

00:53:58   year when i was sick in bed for like two [TS]

00:54:01   days mainlines the whole first and [TS]

00:54:03   second seasons i was hooked right any [TS]

00:54:06   last words of other other shows [TS]

00:54:08   how's that masters of sex come in there [TS]

00:54:09   scott i watch that a oh alright it's [TS]

00:54:15   over [TS]

00:54:16   well the first season's over there and [TS]

00:54:19   it was fine i just have a memory of you [TS]

00:54:22   recommending it and that's making jokes [TS]

00:54:24   some guy I can't remember how it ends [TS]

00:54:26   frankly but i think every everyone was [TS]

00:54:29   satisfied [TS]

00:54:30   take that I could ask for nothing more [TS]

00:54:33   from that show that everybody getting [TS]

00:54:35   some satisfaction at the end and the [TS]

00:54:37   only other thing I've been watching has [TS]

00:54:38   been pretty much reality cooking shows [TS]

00:54:41   and john oliver's new HBO show all i got [TS]

00:54:44   a lot of fun quite like I'm enjoying [TS]

00:54:46   that that do i only see John Oliver show [TS]

00:54:48   in the YouTube clips that make it to my [TS]

00:54:50   Twitter feed but those I enjoy it's a [TS]

00:54:52   good it's good actually was it when he [TS]

00:54:54   took over the Daily Show last summer [TS]

00:54:55   when Jon Stewart shooting his movie i [TS]

00:54:58   started watching because i wasn't his [TS]

00:55:00   podcast beautiful which is an excellent [TS]

00:55:01   podcast and I really enjoyed it and [TS]

00:55:04   what's happened since then as I now [TS]

00:55:06   record the daily show and we'll watch [TS]

00:55:09   those at least we'll watch the first [TS]

00:55:11   segment or two of almost every episode [TS]

00:55:14   of The Daily Show plus now the John [TS]

00:55:15   Oliver HBO show so that's that's uh I'm [TS]

00:55:19   kind of grateful that I've gotten back [TS]

00:55:21   into into the daily show and now the [TS]

00:55:23   John Oliver show is essentially like a [TS]

00:55:25   very compressed extended expansive Daily [TS]

00:55:30   Show which I'm wearing [TS]

00:55:31   well yeah which with swearing and people [TS]

00:55:33   are like why can't I be saying bad words [TS]

00:55:35   like well if you listen to the buccal he [TS]

00:55:37   says all the bad words but i like about [TS]

00:55:39   it is he seems to be having these longer [TS]

00:55:41   pieces that get excerpted on youtube [TS]

00:55:43   that are you know they feel more [TS]

00:55:45   carefully constructed and have more [TS]

00:55:49   depth than your everyday because you [TS]

00:55:52   can't do that if you're doing four shows [TS]

00:55:53   a week on comedy central [TS]

00:55:55   so I i can feel that they're spending [TS]

00:55:57   more time writing and researching the [TS]

00:55:59   pieces that they're doing then they [TS]

00:56:02   would with your average daily show piece [TS]

00:56:04   and it's also run by a former Daily Show [TS]

00:56:06   head writer too so it's it's very much [TS]

00:56:08   the same DNA is through the show ya sty [TS]

00:56:12   what I would love them to experiment [TS]

00:56:14   with that format and not just be the [TS]

00:56:16   daily show on sunday night on a gel well [TS]

00:56:19   they've got that the danger of SNL [TS]

00:56:21   effect when you have all week to come up [TS]

00:56:22   with it and you're so sure this route [TS]

00:56:24   this segment is gonna be awesome and you [TS]

00:56:25   make it long if it's not good and gabby [TS]

00:56:28   from the first two minutes you just got [TS]

00:56:29   to go through with it anyways whereas [TS]

00:56:31   Daily Show has has bumps segments their [TS]

00:56:33   30 seconds long you're in around four or [TS]

00:56:35   it's like like weekend update on SNL now [TS]

00:56:38   half the time the jokes the pop-up I've [TS]

00:56:41   already seen like 50 times on Twitter [TS]

00:56:42   during the week [TS]

00:56:43   because you're all funny to you know or [TS]

00:56:46   family you're late again or The Daily [TS]

00:56:49   Show got to them for the exam is that we [TS]

00:56:52   get updated just poor man's you know [TS]

00:56:54   Daily Show type thing that was the [TS]

00:56:56   myself John Oliver was on Seth Meyers uh [TS]

00:56:58   Late Night with Seth Meyers and I [TS]

00:57:00   recorded it and they pointed out that [TS]

00:57:02   their jobs have reversed because now [TS]

00:57:04   Seth Meyers has to make jokes every day [TS]

00:57:06   and John Oliver has to sit back for a [TS]

00:57:08   week and what John Oliver says yeah it's [TS]

00:57:09   really weird if you screw something up [TS]

00:57:11   you gotta sit there and still on it for [TS]

00:57:13   an entire week whereas if it's you know [TS]

00:57:15   you just come back the next day and get [TS]

00:57:17   it right if you're on a daily show [TS]

00:57:19   anyway John Oliver's funny guy and [TS]

00:57:22   that's a good show and he does a bad [TS]

00:57:24   where he doesn't count if you say them [TS]

00:57:27   in a British accent although i will say [TS]

00:57:28   this the bugle bleeps out too bad words [TS]

00:57:32   and I'm they did that because they were [TS]

00:57:35   originally on The Times of London I [TS]

00:57:37   think website and even though they're [TS]

00:57:39   independent they keep bleeping them and [TS]

00:57:40   they say it's because it's funnier and i [TS]

00:57:42   think it is I actually think it's [TS]

00:57:44   funnier with the bleeps and that HBO [TS]

00:57:46   probably wouldn't let them bleep the [TS]

00:57:49   f-word out for John Oliver but you know [TS]

00:57:51   what on the bugle it's really funny that [TS]

00:57:52   they believe it because you can do lots [TS]

00:57:54   of things with a series of bleeps and [TS]

00:57:56   leaving it to your imagination about [TS]

00:57:59   exactly what parts that you know so it's [TS]

00:58:01   kind of funny did it to him on [TS]

00:58:02   unbleached with those words because i'm [TS]

00:58:04   not sure it's actually funnier than the [TS]

00:58:06   the sound effects lose your funding [TS]

00:58:08   throne spoiler horns [TS]

00:58:10   hey wait a second [TS]

00:58:15   that transition should we talk about gay [TS]

00:58:16   my friends with a spoiler horn spoiler [TS]

00:58:20   bleep all right uh David you can just [TS]

00:58:26   stare at the wall now I i will i will [TS]

00:58:29   zone out okay i'll meet you guys and [TS]

00:58:32   we'll talk about the the games of [TS]

00:58:35   Thrones I i will before we begin I will [TS]

00:58:40   say i'm on the record for about like [TS]

00:58:43   seven hours of her know one another [TS]

00:58:46   half-hour episodes we did the TV podcast [TS]

00:58:49   this year we brought it back and we did [TS]

00:58:51   a monte actually and I and then brian [TS]

00:58:54   hamilton for a few weeks when i was gone [TS]

00:58:56   you did a great job brokered broke down [TS]

00:58:58   every episode after area for about half [TS]

00:59:00   an hour and we just did a season finale [TS]

00:59:02   that included sort of some seasoned [TS]

00:59:04   overview and it was like an hour-long so [TS]

00:59:06   I feel like I talked a lot about Game of [TS]

00:59:07   Thrones but it's out there if you want [TS]

00:59:09   to listen to it i'm curious what you [TS]

00:59:10   guys thought about this season as a [TS]

00:59:12   whole [TS]

00:59:12   yeah I kind of a even beginning I wasn't [TS]

00:59:15   sure what the season was going as you [TS]

00:59:16   have the problem of like where did we [TS]

00:59:17   leave off last time was winter still [TS]

00:59:19   coming [TS]

00:59:20   yeah that's a masters of sex you know [TS]

00:59:22   white walkers were walking somewhere you [TS]

00:59:25   know is this the Fire fireworks factory [TS]

00:59:26   effect again that I've complained about [TS]

00:59:28   in past seasons like how long how slutty [TS]

00:59:30   is White Walkers like you know 40 years [TS]

00:59:33   in the desert like it's not that big [TS]

00:59:34   like me anyway I don't know how slowly [TS]

00:59:36   walk but they have that thing hanging [TS]

00:59:38   over your head and since I don't know [TS]

00:59:39   the books at all i have no idea when [TS]

00:59:41   this stuff is going to come to head up [TS]

00:59:43   but kind of like The Walking Dead I [TS]

00:59:45   enjoyed in this season that they had you [TS]

00:59:49   know that they played with the story [TS]

00:59:52   structure a little bit and they had [TS]

00:59:54   episodes where your favorite character [TS]

00:59:55   didn't appear at all they had one [TS]

00:59:57   episode where they spend the entire [TS]

00:59:58   episode with the same group [TS]

00:59:58   episode with the same group [TS]

01:00:00   characters in a single location which is [TS]

01:00:01   unheard of on this show other and [TS]

01:00:03   invaded the Blackwater episode that was [TS]

01:00:05   like all the characters writer that is [TS]

01:00:07   everyone coming together but this was [TS]

01:00:08   like there's a bunch of other characters [TS]

01:00:10   often other places they're not involved [TS]

01:00:11   in this episode at all this episode is [TS]

01:00:13   all about the wall it's all about the [TS]

01:00:14   people on either side of the wall and [TS]

01:00:16   just don't worry about what earrings [TS]

01:00:18   doing right [TS]

01:00:19   I so that kind of was refreshing and I [TS]

01:00:24   liked a lot of those episodes that and [TS]

01:00:26   i'm kind of annoyed that things are not [TS]

01:00:28   progressing even though it's like oh but [TS]

01:00:30   they kill off characters all the time I [TS]

01:00:32   don't know if that counts progress and [TS]

01:00:33   I'm a little bit said like I mean as [TS]

01:00:35   everybody is part of the show's thing [TS]

01:00:36   when they call your favorite characters [TS]

01:00:38   but I feel like oh they're killing off [TS]

01:00:40   the most interesting characters so you [TS]

01:00:42   know spoiler horn [TS]

01:00:48   Stannis still around he's boring and my [TS]

01:00:51   favorite guy is not around anymore and [TS]

01:00:54   I'm said and so I think going forward [TS]

01:00:57   unlike that you know I'm like orphan [TS]

01:00:58   black they can't just drop a new clone [TS]

01:01:00   and be like oh here's a new interesting [TS]

01:01:02   character like the pieces are more or [TS]

01:01:03   less on the board and they can I guess [TS]

01:01:05   introduce some new characters like they [TS]

01:01:07   did this season briefly but some of my [TS]

01:01:10   favorites are leaving and I was like I [TS]

01:01:11   wanted to see more of that person and so [TS]

01:01:13   I assume they're not going to come back [TS]

01:01:15   as a clone and it's not gonna be [TS]

01:01:16   somebody else so in some ways I'm sad [TS]

01:01:18   about how things are progressing because [TS]

01:01:19   they started not picking my favorites [TS]

01:01:21   like I was ok with sean bean getting [TS]

01:01:24   lopped off because like there were so [TS]

01:01:25   many other interesting characters but in [TS]

01:01:28   some ways I'm a little bit in mourning [TS]

01:01:29   for the show but i have to say i enjoyed [TS]

01:01:31   watching every episode this season and I [TS]

01:01:34   was definitely along for the ride and [TS]

01:01:35   it's still it's one of the like you said [TS]

01:01:37   that the show you want to watch like [TS]

01:01:38   when it's on immediately [TS]

01:01:40   yeah I pretty much always want to see [TS]

01:01:41   Game of Thrones when it's areas [TS]

01:01:43   real-time and has no commercial so i can [TS]

01:01:45   do that so it's great [TS]

01:01:46   yeah but who am curious who your [TS]

01:01:48   favorite guys were that you're not [TS]

01:01:49   getting to see anywhere i really like [TS]

01:01:51   Tywin oh I know we didn't like it but I [TS]

01:01:55   felt like he was the only guy was trying [TS]

01:01:57   to hold this place together and everyone [TS]

01:01:59   else was like getting in his way and [TS]

01:02:01   he's like this i don't care about your [TS]

01:02:03   feelings don't you see I'm trying to [TS]

01:02:05   rule the world here and it's like all [TS]

01:02:06   you're going to go up but what about [TS]

01:02:08   this but daddy didn't love me it's like [TS]

01:02:10   please you know how hard it is to keep [TS]

01:02:11   this all together and you guys are just [TS]

01:02:13   adorable and I thought he had a good [TS]

01:02:15   character arc 2 is just a shame that he [TS]

01:02:17   didn't get to travel the rest of his [TS]

01:02:18   character arc like not that you want to [TS]

01:02:20   see him say oh you know Terry and I [TS]

01:02:22   finally realized that you are the son [TS]

01:02:24   that I always wish i had you are the [TS]

01:02:25   most likely of any of my children all [TS]

01:02:27   the children truly worthless [TS]

01:02:29   the only thing that's bad about you is [TS]

01:02:30   your short I don't want it don't need [TS]

01:02:31   him to go through that but I do want him [TS]

01:02:34   to his hang-ups seemed like it seem [TS]

01:02:39   beneath him he seemed more intelligent [TS]

01:02:41   and with it and pragmatic to be hanging [TS]

01:02:44   up on the psycho your monster where [TS]

01:02:45   Cersei I can totally believe tastier and [TS]

01:02:47   she's terrible [TS]

01:02:48   so why does he let why does he let his [TS]

01:02:51   crib his crazy daughter Trump up charges [TS]

01:02:55   on his son who totally didn't kill the [TS]

01:02:57   awful king that even if he did kill him [TS]

01:02:59   he ought to have a metal [TS]

01:03:00   I mean it could have had a master plan [TS]

01:03:02   their you know well I think smart part [TS]

01:03:05   of that might have been just because you [TS]

01:03:06   know he's in the materials been known as [TS]

01:03:08   the IMP far and wide he's bad PR and [TS]

01:03:12   when you're when you're trying to stand [TS]

01:03:13   behind the throne you really need good [TS]

01:03:14   PR so you know getting rid of him [TS]

01:03:17   well that's that's one way to do it help [TS]

01:03:20   us entire he is the MPS kind of a [TS]

01:03:22   physical method manifestation of the [TS]

01:03:24   inner soul of Tywin right so it reminds [TS]

01:03:28   him that he is Tywin on the outside is a [TS]

01:03:32   handsome older gentleman on the inside [TS]

01:03:34   he is a horrible horrible man and he [TS]

01:03:38   sees that in his son because he wants [TS]

01:03:40   everyone has to be pretty but by hand [TS]

01:03:42   Tyrion isn't terrible bow to your heart [TS]

01:03:44   earring is essentially good and has the [TS]

01:03:46   brains that he inherited from his father [TS]

01:03:48   and that the gift for strategy and for [TS]

01:03:51   taking his emotions out of things to try [TS]

01:03:53   to get things to happen he's just not as [TS]

01:03:56   successful well in his in his father's I [TS]

01:03:58   he is not that too good a because he has [TS]

01:04:00   these physical limitations and be [TS]

01:04:03   because he doesn't take his family name [TS]

01:04:05   seriously he wastes his potential [TS]

01:04:07   quickly and perhaps see because he [TS]

01:04:09   killed Tywin's wife upon being boring [TS]

01:04:13   show [TS]

01:04:13   yeah i mean that's that that type of [TS]

01:04:15   hang-up like oh I can't stand you [TS]

01:04:17   because you're short and you killed your [TS]

01:04:18   mother by being born is the kind of [TS]

01:04:19   stupidity that i would say that Cersei [TS]

01:04:21   is totally on board with because that's [TS]

01:04:23   what she's like but but the time when I [TS]

01:04:25   feel like would be about that anyway [TS]

01:04:26   it's more it's more like I again I never [TS]

01:04:28   read the book so maybe this is all in [TS]

01:04:29   keeping with the character but that [TS]

01:04:31   actor had such sort of gravitas and [TS]

01:04:34   played that role and sort of like such [TS]

01:04:36   an intelligent way like all his [TS]

01:04:37   interactions and strategies and his [TS]

01:04:39   dealings with others were always [TS]

01:04:41   thoughtful and strategic and like [TS]

01:04:44   towards the end is like they let their [TS]

01:04:46   lettuce prejudices or whatever get the [TS]

01:04:48   better of him but he's undone [TS]

01:04:49   he's undone by his children he is undone [TS]

01:04:51   by his and presumably especially since [TS]

01:04:53   his wife died in childbirth with with [TS]

01:04:57   Tyrion he is reaping what he sowed in [TS]

01:05:00   being a terrible father who didn't I [TS]

01:05:03   mean his his two older children are you [TS]

01:05:08   know sleeping with each other and his [TS]

01:05:10   younger one is this a brilliant and yet [TS]

01:05:13   allowed to sort of be beaten down and [TS]

01:05:15   twisted and he's a disappointment [TS]

01:05:17   physically to him and you know you could [TS]

01:05:20   tie one have I I feel like he's let down [TS]

01:05:23   by the way that hehehe his children fail [TS]

01:05:26   him and he failed them and that that's [TS]

01:05:27   what gets him in the end is is because [TS]

01:05:30   it's not only in that last episode we [TS]

01:05:31   see him get killed by Tyrion after after [TS]

01:05:34   all of this but he also gets confronted [TS]

01:05:36   by seriously who basically says you know [TS]

01:05:38   you know that Jamie and I really do [TS]

01:05:40   really are sleeping together and those [TS]

01:05:42   kids really are ours right and now that [TS]

01:05:44   that's an amazing seem to so it's like [TS]

01:05:46   you know he he's got his big strategy [TS]

01:05:48   together but in the end his family and [TS]

01:05:51   his personal life and raising his [TS]

01:05:53   children [TS]

01:05:53   that's the thing that gets him not the [TS]

01:05:55   big strategy stuff it was terrible [TS]

01:05:57   terrible father i agree that i have to [TS]

01:05:59   agree that he is great i would have been [TS]

01:06:01   happy to see 3 more scenes and every [TS]

01:06:04   single episode of Just Charles dance [TS]

01:06:06   talking to diana wreck [TS]

01:06:08   ok and yes I wanted to just see them go [TS]

01:06:11   back and forth interact it was those are [TS]

01:06:14   the best parts so that involve anyone [TS]

01:06:16   put them both in either Doctor Who or [TS]

01:06:17   the next star wars is one of these guys [TS]

01:06:19   is a time when the next star wars [TS]

01:06:21   because he should be he would look [TS]

01:06:22   perfect and imperial diana rigg was [TS]

01:06:24   actually just in Doctor Who so who got [TS]

01:06:26   that yeah yeah Charles dance should be [TS]

01:06:28   in lots of things and you're right he [TS]

01:06:30   would be a you'd make an excellent did [TS]

01:06:33   you say on twitter like bacon [TS]

01:06:34   excellencies lord but I don't know [TS]

01:06:36   that's probably done more but because we [TS]

01:06:38   didn't same purpose you guys I get you I [TS]

01:06:40   get you guys mixed up with your voices [TS]

01:06:42   it and i also like the hound I mean I [TS]

01:06:43   thought oh that has character was [TS]

01:06:45   interesting and they gave him a they [TS]

01:06:47   flush them out a little bit but and then [TS]

01:06:48   he goes away [TS]

01:06:50   I was ok with the timing of him leaving [TS]

01:06:52   I felt like if he were to progress any [TS]

01:06:54   farther I think it would've been too [TS]

01:06:56   much for me he was he was this tough guy [TS]

01:06:59   who was bad but maybe not as bad as we [TS]

01:07:03   thought I just didn't want but pretty [TS]

01:07:04   bad i like the fact that he was bad but [TS]

01:07:06   he's friendly but no actually he's [TS]

01:07:08   pretty bad but nobody's kinda nice and [TS]

01:07:10   his brothers mean to him but you know so [TS]

01:07:12   that's and that's the thing I was [TS]

01:07:13   worried about if they if he would have [TS]

01:07:14   stayed alive much longer I would have [TS]

01:07:17   been frightened of them softening him [TS]

01:07:19   too much and I liked him being at that [TS]

01:07:21   level and I feel like if he would have [TS]

01:07:22   stayed at that level for too much longer [TS]

01:07:24   it might have gotten boring so [TS]

01:07:26   I'm i'm ok with his his are coming to a [TS]

01:07:28   close right there in that way killers [TS]

01:07:30   are people too and it's interesting as [TS]

01:07:33   someone who's read all the books to [TS]

01:07:35   watch how the show is diverging from the [TS]

01:07:39   books in some small and some very large [TS]

01:07:41   ways yes and I'm someone who doesn't [TS]

01:07:43   really even remember what happens in the [TS]

01:07:45   books because i'm watching I'm thinking [TS]

01:07:46   this this does not happen [TS]

01:07:48   yeah and then something new happens that [TS]

01:07:50   I like what yeah I talked to my friend [TS]

01:07:52   who is about about the Hound dying about [TS]

01:07:55   what happened in the show and he had [TS]

01:07:56   read the books and when the hand gets [TS]

01:07:58   the scratch on his neck early in the [TS]

01:07:59   season i was like i said as i often do [TS]

01:08:02   maybe 30 comments and life inside [TS]

01:08:04   realistically all these people should be [TS]

01:08:06   dying due to lack of antibiotics because [TS]

01:08:07   they're constantly getting scraped and [TS]

01:08:09   cod yeah and i know they had cargo [TS]

01:08:10   essentially die from that in in season 1 [TS]

01:08:13   but everybody is all cut off and there's [TS]

01:08:14   no antibiotics they would all die from [TS]

01:08:16   infection and my understanding is that [TS]

01:08:18   is how pound dies in the yeah well he [TS]

01:08:20   gets he gets in a fight and then the [TS]

01:08:22   infection gets him but they rerun wrote [TS]

01:08:24   this to we end up with this i love that [TS]

01:08:27   scene where where we have 3n & the hound [TS]

01:08:30   fighting and she gets to see Aria and [TS]

01:08:34   have that and and have a brief moment [TS]

01:08:36   was like I'm supposed to save you and [TS]

01:08:38   that's all invented for the the TV show [TS]

01:08:40   and is not in the books but I i really [TS]

01:08:42   like that they did it and i really [TS]

01:08:43   enjoyed that seen it got them [TS]

01:08:45   it got those characters where they [TS]

01:08:46   needed to be but instead of having them [TS]

01:08:49   run into some more people just wandering [TS]

01:08:51   around somewhere in him getting wounded [TS]

01:08:53   and dying it we got a scene with other [TS]

01:08:55   characters that we like and and i like [TS]

01:08:57   that i like Aria stubbornly resisting [TS]

01:09:00   ever being saved like no matter who it [TS]

01:09:02   is no matter whatever like you know I'm [TS]

01:09:04   you know like that it's it's almost as [TS]

01:09:07   if you saw her brothers and her mother [TS]

01:09:09   and father should be like you know what [TS]

01:09:10   no because she's like she's stumbling on [TS]

01:09:12   her own and the resolution of this you [TS]

01:09:14   think who she's gonna go with she can [TS]

01:09:16   stay with the house she has a bond with [TS]

01:09:17   him you're gonna believe brie and feel [TS]

01:09:19   safer over there [TS]

01:09:20   nope neither one she's on around he's [TS]

01:09:22   got that coin like the hounds said there [TS]

01:09:25   is no safe place for her just totally [TS]

01:09:27   true [TS]

01:09:27   whoever she goes with it's still a bad [TS]

01:09:29   choice i want to thank you letter from [TS]

01:09:31   Bri and I mean she's that's safer than [TS]

01:09:34   going by yourself but of course you [TS]

01:09:35   magically gets to the seashore where the [TS]

01:09:37   men [TS]

01:09:37   reloading salt without incident well [TS]

01:09:39   that was there's a shortcut there you [TS]

01:09:41   know one of the things I really liked [TS]

01:09:43   about that last episode was was the brie [TS]

01:09:46   and Aria sort of coming together even [TS]

01:09:48   though they didn't stay together i liked [TS]

01:09:49   seeing some of the disparate threads [TS]

01:09:52   weaving their way together like so that [TS]

01:09:55   was one you know the hounds and and bri [TS]

01:09:58   and fighting with was very cool and then [TS]

01:10:00   also Stannis suddenly showing up in the [TS]

01:10:01   North yeah we knew it was gonna happen [TS]

01:10:03   it was before shadowed but I completely [TS]

01:10:06   agree that Stannis is pretty darn boring [TS]

01:10:08   however it was cool to see that part of [TS]

01:10:11   the story just swoop up-and-coming [TS]

01:10:13   seemingly out of nowhere status is [TS]

01:10:15   interesting what he's doing things the [TS]

01:10:17   problem is that he sort of didn't do [TS]

01:10:18   anything for a very long time and part [TS]

01:10:21   of that was setting up this you know [TS]

01:10:22   haha now i'm here at the wall something [TS]

01:10:25   that uh Monty pointed out on the TV [TS]

01:10:27   podcast is you know which I agree with [TS]

01:10:29   and I think it's essentially what you [TS]

01:10:30   said which is isn't it great when you [TS]

01:10:32   see these characters have been totally [TS]

01:10:33   different parts and suddenly they're [TS]

01:10:34   together and your gate around the same [TS]

01:10:36   show [TS]

01:10:36   I do like San Suu got to go and be at [TS]

01:10:39   the North now that's exciting you [TS]

01:10:40   haven't been up there yet and I'm trip [TS]

01:10:43   and and i liked the fact that we see his [TS]

01:10:45   horses and stuff in formation and it [TS]

01:10:48   does give give you that feeling like [TS]

01:10:50   this is what happens when a real army [TS]

01:10:51   with a real king shows up it's the [TS]

01:10:53   wildlings who are just like a mob with [TS]

01:10:56   real money borrowed from the iron bank [TS]

01:10:57   right yeah exactly that's right they got [TS]

01:10:59   their money to get the horse make of [TS]

01:11:00   this fancy flags and they're all running [TS]

01:11:02   in formation and I thought that was a I [TS]

01:11:05   thought that was really cool and I just [TS]

01:11:06   I do love that collision of characters [TS]

01:11:08   that that brand has been on this quest [TS]

01:11:10   to find the girls finally sees one of [TS]

01:11:13   them and she falls you know through her [TS]

01:11:14   fingers she doesn't get a chance just to [TS]

01:11:16   save her and is immediately questioned [TS]

01:11:18   by the Hound about how are you gonna [TS]

01:11:20   save her [TS]

01:11:20   where you going to take her they're all [TS]

01:11:22   dead which is a nice way to revisit all [TS]

01:11:24   these characters that we have lost over [TS]

01:11:26   the last few years I mean having him say [TS]

01:11:28   you know all of the Starks are dead [TS]

01:11:31   there's nowhere for her to go anymore [TS]

01:11:34   well that's the thing like the whole you [TS]

01:11:35   know that is kind of thing that a lesser [TS]

01:11:37   show we like oh they just can end up not [TS]

01:11:39   meeting with each other by you know they [TS]

01:11:40   keep passing each other and [TS]

01:11:42   it is a goodness or whatever but like [TS]

01:11:43   this and everyone run that the red [TS]

01:11:45   wedding they did that right we're [TS]

01:11:46   outside the gate so well but this one [TS]

01:11:48   its realistic for all of them to think [TS]

01:11:50   everybody's dead like for them to think [TS]

01:11:51   that Santa is dead i mean like what it [TS]

01:11:54   is totally it's not like all you're just [TS]

01:11:55   being fatalistic they might still be [TS]

01:11:58   alive it's totally the safe bet that [TS]

01:11:59   everybody's dead when we know that [TS]

01:12:00   there's a few of them still alive and [TS]

01:12:01   I'm not finding each other feels like it [TS]

01:12:04   is true to the way it would happen and [TS]

01:12:07   not like the show is manipulating us [TS]

01:12:08   into having them like both go to the [TS]

01:12:10   same bakery five minutes apart whatever [TS]

01:12:11   right [TS]

01:12:13   I did love that bakery scene though yeah [TS]

01:12:15   there was some good do some good big hot [TS]

01:12:17   pie pie pie nobody that there's nothing [TS]

01:12:19   more exciting than seeing hot pie come [TS]

01:12:21   back that was that was very that was [TS]

01:12:23   great it served a plot point plus we got [TS]

01:12:25   to see hot pie and he's okay he didn't [TS]

01:12:27   get stead [TS]

01:12:28   he's baking pies he's improving at [TS]

01:12:30   baking pies that was so much better than [TS]

01:12:32   the first one [TS]

01:12:32   speaking of characters that I didn't [TS]

01:12:34   like I was glad to see what's your name [TS]

01:12:36   go out the moon door I just I wish her [TS]

01:12:38   son would go with her because I was she [TS]

01:12:40   was not in the series that much but she [TS]

01:12:42   was very unlikable and so I was I was I [TS]

01:12:45   was watching that scene with glee [TS]

01:12:46   because I knew what was gonna come to [TS]

01:12:48   like draw out the door anytime voting [TS]

01:12:51   for programming rooting for Littlefinger [TS]

01:12:53   you know you're not as bad as that we [TS]

01:12:57   did we did find out in this that the [TS]

01:13:00   little finger is actually conspired with [TS]

01:13:02   with the lady Olenna 22 poison Joffrey [TS]

01:13:06   and and that Littlefinger manipulated [TS]

01:13:10   Lisa into poisoning Jon Arryn so the [TS]

01:13:14   whole thing that kicked off Ned having [TS]

01:13:16   to go south and all of that was little [TS]

01:13:19   finger which is interesting that was [TS]

01:13:21   that was some nice revelation 7 Mike him [TS]

01:13:24   getting involved with my nice sounds [TS]

01:13:25   she's been so so maintaining her [TS]

01:13:28   innocence in this very cruel horrible [TS]

01:13:30   world and then this season it seems like [TS]

01:13:32   well I've been stripping away is [TS]

01:13:34   embracing the fact that if she's going [TS]

01:13:36   to make it to ya she's she's lost all of [TS]

01:13:38   her all of her innocence and all of her [TS]

01:13:41   beliefs about what what her life is [TS]

01:13:42   going to be and it's sort of embraced [TS]

01:13:44   that she has to you know survive and be [TS]

01:13:47   more like seriously then there are not [TS]

01:13:49   more like seriously more like I [TS]

01:13:50   what's-her-name the one who's going to [TS]

01:13:52   marry Tomlin [TS]

01:13:53   surname home Marjorie Marjorie that men [TS]

01:13:56   should be her I'm sure her evil role [TS]

01:13:58   model as a result I'm actually liking [TS]

01:14:01   sense of better now [TS]

01:14:02   yeah I just I just thought she was just [TS]

01:14:04   so I just wanted knowing that she was so [TS]

01:14:07   now you know I just want to eat my lemon [TS]

01:14:09   cakes and have flowers and princess will [TS]

01:14:11   fight over me and it would be great and [TS]

01:14:13   all that she thought she was going to [TS]

01:14:14   get in life she did not expect your [TS]

01:14:16   health family to be slaughtered and she [TS]

01:14:19   doesn't have the tools to extractors or [TS]

01:14:21   previously did not feel like she had the [TS]

01:14:23   tools to it extract yourself from the [TS]

01:14:25   situation once they kind of your dad's [TS]

01:14:26   head like are all that part of my [TS]

01:14:27   childhood is over now and just Joffrey [TS]

01:14:30   was terrible and she was nothing she [TS]

01:14:31   could do she's not a fighter she doesn't [TS]

01:14:33   have any friends he doesn't know how to [TS]

01:14:35   do political intrigue and in this [TS]

01:14:36   episode this season she's like well have [TS]

01:14:39   one thing that i can use and so she [TS]

01:14:41   finally found some tool and her tool [TS]

01:14:42   just to actually to actually gain some [TS]

01:14:45   amount of power over her life which is [TS]

01:14:48   kind of sad but I i think it's [TS]

01:14:51   reasonably realistic is what else is she [TS]

01:14:53   gonna do she's not going to break out a [TS]

01:14:54   sword and stop fighting people and she's [TS]

01:14:55   not going to become like you know foster [TS]

01:14:58   network of spies in King's Landing or [TS]

01:15:00   something i did i did like the the area [TS]

01:15:03   and Breanna exchange the names of their [TS]

01:15:06   swords moment [TS]

01:15:07   good good devastating for speaking of [TS]

01:15:10   speaking of spies i think that the my [TS]

01:15:12   jaw dropped to the lowest of the entire [TS]

01:15:16   season probably was happy and when [TS]

01:15:18   Ferris just turns around and walks to [TS]

01:15:20   the ship and and sits down next to the [TS]

01:15:22   box experience any easier you else hears [TS]

01:15:25   the but I like that he's like oh it's [TS]

01:15:27   gone [TS]

01:15:27   yeah like that's the great thing about [TS]

01:15:29   the show is that they don't have to have [TS]

01:15:31   a messenger come run down to him and [TS]

01:15:32   tell him with those bells mean he can [TS]

01:15:34   more or less put together what those [TS]

01:15:35   bells must mean he's like all right I'm [TS]

01:15:37   out [TS]

01:15:37   yeah yeah well you guys who didn't read [TS]

01:15:39   the books are it did you feel like [TS]

01:15:41   tyrion was really in jeopardy and he was [TS]

01:15:43   going to go [TS]

01:15:44   yeah I thought I'm fact I'm almost [TS]

01:15:46   little not a lot of disappointed he [TS]

01:15:48   didn't die because i like that character [TS]

01:15:50   and everything but I it would have been [TS]

01:15:53   totally like I thought he was you know [TS]

01:15:55   it would in the Viper episode about [TS]

01:15:57   maybe the Chancellor so how they ended [TS]

01:15:59   that it's like oh they really stick it [TS]

01:16:00   to you now and now he's gonna die and [TS]

01:16:02   him living with seals out of care [TS]

01:16:04   therefore the show yeah it's it's a I [TS]

01:16:07   don't know I i love that moment that his [TS]

01:16:08   brother his brother comes through for [TS]

01:16:10   him and and and it is set up in the [TS]

01:16:13   sense that various you you're led to [TS]

01:16:15   believe the various is just on an [TS]

01:16:17   untrustworthy bastard but when various [TS]

01:16:19   says even in the Blackwater says we know [TS]

01:16:21   we will remember i will remember that [TS]

01:16:24   you're the only reason this city is [TS]

01:16:25   still standing and then at the at his [TS]

01:16:27   trial various kind of like backs off and [TS]

01:16:30   you're like oh come on you said you were [TS]

01:16:31   going to say something but this is the [TS]

01:16:33   payoff is that that you know this is [TS]

01:16:35   this is what has been setup is that he's [TS]

01:16:37   not gonna let him he's not gonna let my [TS]

01:16:39   anger get his head chopped off [TS]

01:16:41   he's gonna get him he'll spirit him away [TS]

01:16:43   because he knows that the disguise value [TS]

01:16:46   no he wasn't intending that he would [TS]

01:16:47   kill Tywin Lannister and that well that [TS]

01:16:49   was going to make out though because you [TS]

01:16:51   had seen you had seen previously the [TS]

01:16:52   trial by combat and and the Viper comes [TS]

01:16:55   through for him is going to fight for [TS]

01:16:56   him [TS]

01:16:56   looks like he has it one and then blows [TS]

01:16:58   it in the end and here you have Tyrion [TS]

01:17:00   you know things look down but then [TS]

01:17:03   someone comes through for him Jamie let [TS]

01:17:05   them out and then you think always [TS]

01:17:06   blowing in the end just where you going [TS]

01:17:08   to have the doors like no actually I [TS]

01:17:09   have something to do first and then he [TS]

01:17:10   sees che there's like see it's just [TS]

01:17:12   replaying exactly the amount of you you [TS]

01:17:14   had you could have just gone and you [TS]

01:17:15   would have been fine [TS]

01:17:16   instead you gotta do this stuff but you [TS]

01:17:18   know and it turns out it works out in [TS]

01:17:19   the end so is his side trip did not trip [TS]

01:17:22   him up but there was a great parallels [TS]

01:17:24   with the the previous encounter with the [TS]

01:17:25   mountain and the vibrant that I i really [TS]

01:17:27   expected to to replay and this one [TS]

01:17:29   especially when he's going on a little [TS]

01:17:30   journey when it's like just can't have [TS]

01:17:32   the castle [TS]

01:17:33   I know he didn't seem that you did this [TS]

01:17:37   was a thing with Tyrion is it was [TS]

01:17:39   unclear like he doesn't want to die but [TS]

01:17:40   he kind of doesn't want to live and so [TS]

01:17:42   he's in this like it weird in-between [TS]

01:17:44   State we're like he's freed yay [TS]

01:17:46   and yet he sort of like okay I'm going [TS]

01:17:49   to really prioritize getting out of here [TS]

01:17:50   before they find that i'm missing from [TS]

01:17:52   my cell he's more like I'm going to [TS]

01:17:53   settle some scores and if that causes me [TS]

01:17:56   to die whatever i will have settled by [TS]

01:17:58   scores and and and why do we have to [TS]

01:18:00   kill Shaye like so you see her there and [TS]

01:18:02   she did testify against you but this [TS]

01:18:04   would be the opportunity to talk to her [TS]

01:18:05   about oh you know what I told you to go [TS]

01:18:07   away was for your own good and don't [TS]

01:18:08   have hard feel like it's not like he [TS]

01:18:10   killed out of angry bit syrupy snow fall [TS]

01:18:13   she tried on [TS]

01:18:14   what does she have to fear from the [TS]

01:18:16   vinyl because it's the 844 Tyrion it's [TS]

01:18:19   like her final betrayal of him as she [TS]

01:18:21   she calls she called she sleeping with [TS]

01:18:23   his father she calls him my lion it is [TS]

01:18:27   the last time I understand it's a bummer [TS]

01:18:29   for him but I think his reaction in [TS]

01:18:31   character's reaction should have been to [TS]

01:18:32   be even more depressed and down on [TS]

01:18:33   himself not to immediately go to grab me [TS]

01:18:35   and then she tried to kill him why she [TS]

01:18:37   tried to kill him because she thinks [TS]

01:18:39   that what you why does yeah it is a [TS]

01:18:42   little unusual experience to isn't it [TS]

01:18:44   right it's like all misunderstanding but [TS]

01:18:46   saturday night ever i would i would like [TS]

01:18:49   to have seen them talk and then I mean [TS]

01:18:51   it could have ended in murder as well [TS]

01:18:52   but i don't think that immediately go [TS]

01:18:54   there you are [TS]

01:18:55   knife murder yeah and then and then you [TS]

01:18:59   know where where's my dad [TS]

01:19:01   oh he's on he's on the toilet ok stay [TS]

01:19:04   there on the toilet [TS]

01:19:05   we're gonna talk which is right and [TS]

01:19:07   that's in the books that's okay that was [TS]

01:19:09   nice thing that kept that that's the [TS]

01:19:10   longest toilet scene you'll ever seen [TS]

01:19:13   I was hoping that they would keep it [TS]

01:19:14   that way and I was quite pleased yeah I [TS]

01:19:16   knowing knowing that was coming all but [TS]

01:19:18   all this way it was a it was very [TS]

01:19:21   interesting to see how they they played [TS]

01:19:23   it and and they did diverge from the [TS]

01:19:25   they're actually things in this season [TS]

01:19:27   from the they're skipping all the fourth [TS]

01:19:31   book from the fifth book and you have [TS]

01:19:33   another round of the chapters a of the [TS]

01:19:35   book that has not come out yet that [TS]

01:19:36   they've just put the chapter on the web [TS]

01:19:39   or something they've taken pieces from [TS]

01:19:40   all over and a lot of that is because [TS]

01:19:42   the eris really doesn't have a lot to do [TS]

01:19:44   in the in those three books going on it [TS]

01:19:46   and maybe there's a lot of characters [TS]

01:19:48   who kind of like don't have anything [TS]

01:19:50   going on so they've kind of moved their [TS]

01:19:53   story ahead i don't know what that where [TS]

01:19:55   they go from here but they're definitely [TS]

01:19:56   taken a second draft of the story [TS]

01:19:59   instead of just sort of sticking with [TS]

01:20:00   the books which is fine I still like [TS]

01:20:02   Canaris but I think her system of [TS]

01:20:04   government is not scalable where she [TS]

01:20:06   said we just another on the throne with [TS]

01:20:08   their cards next to an individual people [TS]

01:20:10   come and plead their cases and just let [TS]

01:20:12   you know like as I wasn't for drugs [TS]

01:20:14   painting my house and then it rained in [TS]

01:20:16   the paint random shutters their sob [TS]

01:20:18   stories like get this man some new paint [TS]

01:20:19   our next person coming in a your dragons [TS]

01:20:22   torch my daughter is all that's that's [TS]

01:20:24   unfortunate like it's not it i don't [TS]

01:20:26   understand how that's a system of [TS]

01:20:28   I like you can have one or two scenes [TS]

01:20:29   but it seems like every episode she had [TS]

01:20:30   people coming and going [TS]

01:20:32   I have a problem can you solve it for me [TS]

01:20:33   that's the thing about that bugs me the [TS]

01:20:36   most which is stupid was the fact that [TS]

01:20:38   you know you get this long litany of [TS]

01:20:39   these are all of her titles your now [TS]

01:20:41   addressing the queen of the Dragons the [TS]

01:20:43   unburnt blah blah and it goes on and on [TS]

01:20:45   but they only do it for like every other [TS]

01:20:46   person because we as the viewers only [TS]

01:20:49   need to see it the one time so they just [TS]

01:20:51   cut it out for the next person who walks [TS]

01:20:52   in without actually cutting like wait a [TS]

01:20:55   minute shouldn't every person have to [TS]

01:20:56   hear that it just bothered me it's a [TS]

01:20:58   Porsche got a guy who speaks it should [TS]

01:21:00   sound super bored because this is the [TS]

01:21:01   9000 yeah nice engine of a big don't [TS]

01:21:04   she's always sounds uh well this is this [TS]

01:21:06   is that argument about democracy right [TS]

01:21:08   which is like well democracy was in [TS]

01:21:10   Greece where was a true representative [TS]

01:21:11   democracy and everybody would go down [TS]

01:21:13   and there would be a vote and all that [TS]

01:21:14   and then as soon as you start mediating [TS]

01:21:16   between the rulers and the people is [TS]

01:21:17   when there's trouble in this wooded [TS]

01:21:18   areas is that this she doesn't have a [TS]

01:21:21   lot to do this season at all but what [TS]

01:21:22   she does have is the the lesson that you [TS]

01:21:25   can't just sort of sweep in declare [TS]

01:21:27   victory sweep out and have everything be [TS]

01:21:29   fine [TS]

01:21:30   that ruling is a problem it's hard and [TS]

01:21:33   just just being a conqueror and and [TS]

01:21:35   ruling by Fiat doesn't like you said it [TS]

01:21:38   doesn't scale it doesn't she can do that [TS]

01:21:40   if she doesn't have a conscience her [TS]

01:21:41   problem is that he wants everyone to [TS]

01:21:43   love her and be nice and it's like well [TS]

01:21:45   then you actually have to solve people's [TS]

01:21:45   problems and that is much harder than [TS]

01:21:47   saying you're free now starved to death [TS]

01:21:49   in the streets so and I feel like what [TS]

01:21:51   they're saying about this is she she is [TS]

01:21:54   now mature enough to realize that she [TS]

01:21:56   has to learn if she wants to rule she's [TS]

01:21:58   got to learn to rule and not just be a [TS]

01:22:00   conqueror and and you know Khaleesi with [TS]

01:22:03   her her army and plots are you know [TS]

01:22:05   because otherwise she's gonna get back [TS]

01:22:06   to West rosen and it's not going to work [TS]

01:22:08   because she's not gonna know what what [TS]

01:22:10   to do so she I like that she decides to [TS]

01:22:12   stay and figure out what it's like to [TS]

01:22:13   actually be a ruler because she doesn't [TS]

01:22:15   know and that's that's interesting even [TS]

01:22:17   though she didn't have much to do this [TS]

01:22:19   season I don't have a solution with her [TS]

01:22:20   dragons also seems like a bad idea [TS]

01:22:22   because first of all she doesn't know [TS]

01:22:23   where one of them is not spared dragon [TS]

01:22:25   keeping second you can put the iron [TS]

01:22:27   collars around the neck of the dragon [TS]

01:22:29   while they're distracted but good luck [TS]

01:22:30   getting to take that off later and they [TS]

01:22:32   if they're growing in there and you're [TS]

01:22:33   feeding them they're gonna grow out of [TS]

01:22:35   that collar it's like animal cruelty [TS]

01:22:36   doesn't seem like it's a good system i [TS]

01:22:37   assume they will not spend [TS]

01:22:39   a long it down there because we all like [TS]

01:22:41   dragons but I want to really help with [TS]

01:22:43   your case she's got three dragons one of [TS]

01:22:45   them is torturing people this is your [TS]

01:22:46   one get out of free in jail free card [TS]

01:22:48   have the other to kill the one dragon to [TS]

01:22:51   as a lesson are none of those other two [TS]

01:22:54   go bad but apparently that was not now [TS]

01:22:56   we see how you would rule a system of [TS]

01:22:58   government job well I dragons week [TS]

01:23:00   this show is established dragons may [TS]

01:23:02   like her and choose their mother but [TS]

01:23:03   there that they did that little scene [TS]

01:23:04   where it's like they're always gonna be [TS]

01:23:06   dragons and don't expect them to do what [TS]

01:23:08   you say because dragons or drag that's [TS]

01:23:10   and and that's the same thing with all [TS]

01:23:11   the slaves and the people she fries they [TS]

01:23:13   think of her as her mother as their [TS]

01:23:14   mother but they are then the guy comes [TS]

01:23:17   in positions and says you know I was a [TS]

01:23:19   tutor and now i'm free but the kind of [TS]

01:23:21   sucks so can I be a slave again today [TS]

01:23:23   this job like there's something between [TS]

01:23:24   slavery and not even like why don't you [TS]

01:23:26   just get a job as employment is a [TS]

01:23:28   concept that needs to be introduced into [TS]

01:23:29   the city i think the argument there was [TS]

01:23:31   that his employer was afraid of keeping [TS]

01:23:34   him around because he'd be called the [TS]

01:23:36   slave keeper and you know and so she's [TS]

01:23:39   like just signed a one-year contract a [TS]

01:23:40   one-year slavery contract you can just [TS]

01:23:42   get a job he could just pay you he can [TS]

01:23:44   be your boss that you can be employed [TS]

01:23:45   and go home to your own house like this [TS]

01:23:46   is there is a system an economy that [TS]

01:23:48   works without slavery is just think they [TS]

01:23:50   can grasp like I guess we have to bring [TS]

01:23:51   back slavery the only choice sensible [TS]

01:23:55   option [TS]

01:23:55   yeah yeah and anybody who doesn't like [TS]

01:23:58   it will go to go down in the dragon [TS]

01:24:00   aspirations records [TS]

01:24:02   yeah I felt really bad for those dragons [TS]

01:24:04   i mean.they as far as we know didn't [TS]

01:24:07   torch many people so everybody knows [TS]

01:24:09   that the ok these ones might have 12 we [TS]

01:24:13   don't we don't know for sure but I just [TS]

01:24:14   felt bad because you know these are the [TS]

01:24:16   good ones and I could picture them [TS]

01:24:18   thinking what did we do wrong [TS]

01:24:20   who were the ones that are doing things [TS]

01:24:21   right and we don't get to stay flying [TS]

01:24:22   around like old Blackie does your or [TS]

01:24:24   they're just thinking no he did [TS]

01:24:26   something didn't he [TS]

01:24:27   and it once again we have to pay for [TS]

01:24:29   throw guns problems we haven't [TS]

01:24:33   established with the intelligence of the [TS]

01:24:34   dragons are so so that's far they seem [TS]

01:24:36   like cats where they're kind of don't [TS]

01:24:37   like you but can tolerate you but [TS]

01:24:39   they're also not very smart [TS]

01:24:40   yeah fire breathing cats yeah giant [TS]

01:24:44   fire-breathing cats and what you're not [TS]

01:24:45   looking they knock your crap off shelves [TS]

01:24:47   to it [TS]

01:24:49   don't leave the glass of water by those [TS]

01:24:50   dragons they always want to climb to the [TS]

01:24:52   top of the drapes in the castle and just [TS]

01:24:54   hang out up there stupid dragons they're [TS]

01:24:58   held back by the budget though I still [TS]

01:24:59   feel bad like you know you have a [TS]

01:25:00   certain amount of Dragon per season [TS]

01:25:02   yeah and yeah I was almost torn between [TS]

01:25:04   like what i would rather have them to [TS]

01:25:05   spend that budget on location with a [TS]

01:25:07   rather have been spending on the ice [TS]

01:25:09   wall presumably a seat in season 17 [TS]

01:25:12   eventually they have to spend it on some [TS]

01:25:13   you know ice Walker zombie whatever [TS]

01:25:16   people that the skeletons popping out [TS]

01:25:17   skeletons yeah that was that was kind of [TS]

01:25:19   an awesome skeleton battle which was [TS]

01:25:22   again a scene that was taken from like [TS]

01:25:24   the most recent book and they moved it [TS]

01:25:26   up because like generis brand it doesn't [TS]

01:25:30   have anything to do [TS]

01:25:32   he's just wandering around from Lindsay [TS]

01:25:34   doesn't do the same thing in the book [TS]

01:25:35   where it's like you know he's going to [TS]

01:25:36   take over her to RP weights any weights [TS]

01:25:39   anyway it's just get in that hole door [TS]

01:25:41   what are you waiting for you waiting for [TS]

01:25:42   just before I'm about to card a fine i [TS]

01:25:44   guess i'll take over or I think Brandis [TS]

01:25:46   a lot more jumping into other people and [TS]

01:25:48   creatures in the books but but I don't [TS]

01:25:51   know that simplified a lot and and I [TS]

01:25:53   that I mentioned in the TV pockets I [TS]

01:25:55   that scene with those skeletons coming [TS]

01:25:56   out of the snow [TS]

01:25:57   it was much more when i read the books [TS]

01:25:59   it was much more evocative like this was [TS]

01:26:01   these are like soldiers and who died and [TS]

01:26:04   were buried in the snow where they died [TS]

01:26:05   in a blizzard or something but because [TS]

01:26:08   it's in the North they turn into white [TS]

01:26:10   sand and so now they're they're coming [TS]

01:26:11   out of the snow it's like we buried them [TS]

01:26:13   but we didn't burn the bodies we buried [TS]

01:26:15   them and now they're you know there's a [TS]

01:26:16   snowdrift full of dead bodies that are [TS]

01:26:18   able to come and kill you and and I like [TS]

01:26:21   the scene with the skeletons but it did [TS]

01:26:23   feel a little less epic and a little [TS]

01:26:24   more like whoops stepped in a skeleton [TS]

01:26:27   trap and have plenty of time region [TS]

01:26:29   grabbed his leg and i spent like 10 [TS]

01:26:31   minutes staring at his leg going on what [TS]

01:26:32   should we do get off that ice thing go [TS]

01:26:34   to the tree that was the that was the [TS]

01:26:35   leg rabi skeleton as opposed to the [TS]

01:26:38   other guy who got Jojen got stopped by [TS]

01:26:40   the stabby skeleton [TS]

01:26:41   oh yeah that's going to be by it's just [TS]

01:26:44   an armed with a knife that go stab stab [TS]

01:26:45   stab at that tree reminded me spoilers [TS]

01:26:48   of the end of majora's mask and a queen [TS]

01:26:50   the creepy little kid in the tree and [TS]

01:26:51   everything I I don't know the spoilers [TS]

01:26:54   so there you go [TS]

01:26:55   I don't know what that means so game [TS]

01:26:57   away [TS]

01:26:57   spoilers for all I'm all alone out here [TS]

01:27:00   you hit us sorry you can't you can't you [TS]

01:27:04   can't slide your pop culture references [TS]

01:27:05   bias but you can slide your gaming [TS]

01:27:06   references bias games are pop culture [TS]

01:27:09   those are not games of Thrones they're [TS]

01:27:11   not throwing really awesome i will not [TS]

01:27:14   spoil this particular game of throne [TS]

01:27:17   spoiler but there was a part of that [TS]

01:27:18   many people who read the book were [TS]

01:27:20   expecting that did not happen [TS]

01:27:22   yes so so yes because we don't want to [TS]

01:27:25   we can spoil viewers but we want to [TS]

01:27:26   spoil viewers who haven't read the books [TS]

01:27:28   like John or Erica this is the thing is [TS]

01:27:31   there's there are so many endings to the [TS]

01:27:33   book a certain storm of swords there are [TS]

01:27:35   so many endings and one of them is an [TS]

01:27:38   epilogue so after all these many endings [TS]

01:27:41   then there's this a blog which is yet [TS]

01:27:42   another shocking kind of plot thread [TS]

01:27:47   that will be picked up later and the the [TS]

01:27:49   i think a lot of fans wanted to see that [TS]

01:27:51   scene and it didn't happen and I can [TS]

01:27:54   understand why because one they had a [TS]

01:27:57   lot of endings as it was and they didn't [TS]

01:27:59   need another one and two actually kinda [TS]

01:28:01   like what happened in the first season [TS]

01:28:02   there are sometimes you you the idea [TS]

01:28:08   that you're making a season's worth of [TS]

01:28:09   television and you need you need to get [TS]

01:28:11   you know if you need to cast a [TS]

01:28:12   particular actor to play a particular [TS]

01:28:14   part you can't really do that for a [TS]

01:28:17   scene you need to like get them under [TS]

01:28:20   contract and you want to use the more [TS]

01:28:21   than once and all that that epilogue was [TS]

01:28:24   like they were gonna have to go a long [TS]

01:28:25   way just to do this little teaser at the [TS]

01:28:28   end of this season so I imagine we'll [TS]

01:28:30   see that scene next season instead but I [TS]

01:28:32   know it was one of those things that [TS]

01:28:33   people are upset that they left out i [TS]

01:28:35   don't think they cut it i think they [TS]

01:28:36   literally deferred it like they have to [TS]

01:28:39   do some major character is supposed to [TS]

01:28:41   come at the end of season one and we [TS]

01:28:42   just never so OH status because I didn't [TS]

01:28:45   want to cast Stannis 41 you know for one [TS]

01:28:48   scene and then hope the actor doesn't [TS]

01:28:50   disappear by the time they do the next [TS]

01:28:52   season [TS]

01:28:53   so does that happens actors are [TS]

01:28:54   disappearing all the time and they can't [TS]

01:28:56   find them go to Canada about 2% of them [TS]

01:28:59   disappeared yeah every inch here there's [TS]

01:29:01   an HBO show about that anyway uh that [TS]

01:29:04   that so but a good point Scott that [TS]

01:29:06   there are definitely people who are who [TS]

01:29:07   are a little bit bent out of shape about [TS]

01:29:08   that but then there are also people who [TS]

01:29:10   have been out [TS]

01:29:11   shape when there's any divergence from [TS]

01:29:12   my george RR martin road and I don't [TS]

01:29:14   have a problem but they're telling their [TS]

01:29:15   telling the a similar story but that in [TS]

01:29:18   a very different medium and they've got [TS]

01:29:19   to make decisions and I like each [TS]

01:29:21   episode would have to be like four hours [TS]

01:29:23   long [TS]

01:29:23   yeah cover everything that george RR [TS]

01:29:25   martin does in his expensive books this [TS]

01:29:26   is a very different facet of Game of [TS]

01:29:29   Thrones yeah so speaking of endings [TS]

01:29:32   I was a little bit confused by by two [TS]

01:29:35   parts of our is ending so she shows up [TS]

01:29:38   the guys are loading salt [TS]

01:29:40   she's like I i want you guys that taking [TS]

01:29:42   out your boat i'll be a deckhand I don't [TS]

01:29:44   need any place to sleep just take me [TS]

01:29:45   with you and I want you to take me in [TS]

01:29:47   north to the wall and they're like now [TS]

01:29:49   forget it you know whatever inches like [TS]

01:29:51   oh here's my get-out-of-jail-free card [TS]

01:29:52   another 1i remember this client give it [TS]

01:29:55   and he's like alright great and she goes [TS]

01:29:57   off on the boat was not clear to me is [TS]

01:29:58   what did she just buy with that coin [TS]

01:30:00   because it seems like if she had just [TS]

01:30:02   been a little bit persistent they would [TS]

01:30:03   have brought her on the boat eventually [TS]

01:30:04   I'll have a deckhand shall earn her keep [TS]

01:30:06   it will be fine [TS]

01:30:07   so the only thing i can think she bought [TS]

01:30:08   with coin is that they're not actually [TS]

01:30:10   going back to where they were going to [TS]

01:30:11   go with all that salt they're actually [TS]

01:30:12   taking our north to the wall but proved [TS]

01:30:14   people I'm talking to you like now then [TS]

01:30:15   I'm taking her to the wall she's going [TS]

01:30:17   to Braavos and that's where she's gonna [TS]

01:30:18   end up she seems like she could have [TS]

01:30:19   gotten there without spending her coin [TS]

01:30:20   so where is she going on that boat and [TS]

01:30:22   are we supposed to know where she's [TS]

01:30:23   going [TS]

01:30:24   I also thought she was heading north is [TS]

01:30:25   that not am I wrong [TS]

01:30:27   no the way so so it happens really fast [TS]

01:30:29   but you know the the give-and-take is [TS]

01:30:32   I'm going to bravos this boat is not [TS]

01:30:34   going north it's going to Braavos and [TS]

01:30:36   she says hey I've got this coin and it's [TS]

01:30:38   from the guy the guy who gave it to her [TS]

01:30:40   the assassin is from Braavos and she's [TS]

01:30:42   like ah I had this coin voller margolis [TS]

01:30:44   and he's like all right you can have a [TS]

01:30:46   cabin so I think the implication there [TS]

01:30:48   is they're going they're still going [TS]

01:30:50   back to Braavos but she's got the Bravo [TS]

01:30:52   see coin that she she used to call in [TS]

01:30:54   the debt and they're like you can have a [TS]

01:30:56   cabin that's always the coins you just [TS]

01:30:58   got to just got a first class upgrade [TS]

01:30:59   with that coin when that coin could have [TS]

01:31:01   been used like you know kill somebody or [TS]

01:31:03   save her life is like now you just get a [TS]

01:31:05   more legroom [TS]

01:31:06   so again without spoiling anything else [TS]

01:31:07   i'll just say that that it's more you [TS]

01:31:11   know they're taking her someplace in [TS]

01:31:12   particular and the coin is relevant and [TS]

01:31:14   i'll just leave it at that [TS]

01:31:16   it's not all right everybody anyway it [TS]

01:31:17   was not clear on the television writer [TS]

01:31:19   god I agree it is it is a it happened [TS]

01:31:21   really fast and you have end [TS]

01:31:23   and you have to be thinking of exactly [TS]

01:31:26   what everybody said and where she got [TS]

01:31:27   the coin and where that guy was from the [TS]

01:31:29   kind of kid I know I actually did [TS]

01:31:31   remember all of that and but then just [TS]

01:31:33   the way that they should the way they [TS]

01:31:35   shot that very last seen with her you [TS]

01:31:36   know her smiling so much i really [TS]

01:31:38   thought that they had changed their [TS]

01:31:40   minds are excited to go north because [TS]

01:31:42   she had this coin which gave her enough [TS]

01:31:44   clout to be able to ask them to do [TS]

01:31:45   whatever she wanted [TS]

01:31:47   that was when I got complete the coin [TS]

01:31:48   was like hanging over this whole season [TS]

01:31:49   like once you know someone has their in [TS]

01:31:51   their pocket like oh we're going to use [TS]

01:31:53   it valid google is right so you knew [TS]

01:31:55   like we knew it had to to be used and I [TS]

01:31:58   would you know it was in the back of my [TS]

01:31:59   mind I thought that's got to be used for [TS]

01:32:01   something important because you don't [TS]

01:32:03   spend a whole season establishing that [TS]

01:32:04   coin and then just have it be like not a [TS]

01:32:07   big deal but anyway i will patiently [TS]

01:32:09   wait and see i just want to make sure [TS]

01:32:10   there wasn't anything I missed about [TS]

01:32:11   like everyone knows where they're going [TS]

01:32:12   you just don't cause you didn't pay [TS]

01:32:13   attention [TS]

01:32:14   no youyou I i think it's there but [TS]

01:32:17   you've gotta say it blows by so fast [TS]

01:32:19   it's very easy to because i was sitting [TS]

01:32:22   there watching it going well no then [TS]

01:32:23   they're not actually taking her to the [TS]

01:32:25   wall there that's they're not going [TS]

01:32:27   there but it and they say it but it goes [TS]

01:32:31   by so fast it's very easy to [TS]

01:32:32   misunderstand it but they don't want to [TS]

01:32:34   go to the wall those are Bravo skies [TS]

01:32:36   they're not even like they said about [TS]

01:32:37   Stannis it's like you're not even [TS]

01:32:38   wearing the right clothes to be up here [TS]

01:32:40   this is probably the closest to a happy [TS]

01:32:42   ending because you know bad good guy [TS]

01:32:44   that we all like lived unexpectedly bad [TS]

01:32:47   guy that a lot of people didn't like [TS]

01:32:48   that for me apparently advising the toy [TS]

01:32:50   yeah I get out [TS]

01:32:52   Aria Aria lives and gets to continue her [TS]

01:32:55   journey interior get-get boat rides to [TS]

01:32:57   the east [TS]

01:32:58   yeah and she's an agent of her own death [TS]

01:32:59   there is no longer anyone's prisoner [TS]

01:33:01   Sansa is is is you know it coming into [TS]

01:33:04   her own and and not being a victim all [TS]

01:33:06   the time you know various is safe little [TS]

01:33:09   fingers off doing his thing like there's [TS]

01:33:11   no it's it's certainly not a red wedding [TS]

01:33:13   ending right yeah yeah it's a it feels [TS]

01:33:16   like a really happy ending which it's [TS]

01:33:18   not but it is like that's happy because [TS]

01:33:22   they don't all die [TS]

01:33:23   well and we're leaving this dump I mean [TS]

01:33:25   there's something about that too which [TS]

01:33:26   is like well at least I'm not gonna have [TS]

01:33:28   to pay around the stupid Westeros [TS]

01:33:30   anymore i get something better [TS]

01:33:32   for beyond beyond is still not doing too [TS]

01:33:35   hot no for anyone near Theon is not [TS]

01:33:38   trying to [TS]

01:33:39   so that's all still a craft show i quite [TS]

01:33:43   like this this last episode kind of as [TS]

01:33:46   as compared to the other seasons where [TS]

01:33:47   in previous seasons we had the [TS]

01:33:49   second-to-last episode with was where [TS]

01:33:51   the really big stuff happened and then [TS]

01:33:53   the final episode was more like falling [TS]

01:33:55   action so that sort of you set up for [TS]

01:33:57   the next series and I feel like this one [TS]

01:33:59   balance both really well we got some [TS]

01:34:01   some resolutions for some characters but [TS]

01:34:04   we also then got little bits of preview [TS]

01:34:06   for what is a probably coming in the [TS]

01:34:09   next season [TS]

01:34:10   well that's the sort of the HBO pattern [TS]

01:34:12   is to have ya all the action in the [TS]

01:34:13   penultimate episode and i think this [TS]

01:34:15   year with the ratings for it exploding I [TS]

01:34:18   mean it's now officially the most the [TS]

01:34:19   highest-rated series they've ever had [TS]

01:34:22   they kind of got to say to them look we [TS]

01:34:23   want to pray that our way now [TS]

01:34:25   yeah I just do the wire strung out [TS]

01:34:28   although they still did the big there's [TS]

01:34:29   a big blowout penultimate episode but [TS]

01:34:31   but I i agree was nice that they it [TS]

01:34:35   wasn't just all sort of aftermath in the [TS]

01:34:38   10th episode but it was still more you [TS]

01:34:40   know more plot not the Giants you know [TS]

01:34:43   well the skeleton thing was actually [TS]

01:34:45   joined special-effects fight scene thing [TS]

01:34:47   too so yeah it was a was a little [TS]

01:34:49   different structure than the first three [TS]

01:34:50   seasons with their families which was it [TS]

01:34:53   was cool i love the show [TS]

01:34:55   it's just a lot of fun to watch and it's [TS]

01:34:56   not like it doesn't have flaws but i do [TS]

01:34:58   i watched the day it's on and I'm [TS]

01:35:01   excited to talk about it you know maybe [TS]

01:35:03   sometimes even a podcast right afterward [TS]

01:35:05   uh just because it's it's it's not like [TS]

01:35:08   other shows that are on TV and it's the [TS]

01:35:10   scope is so ridiculously large and the [TS]

01:35:12   ambition level that you know it's just [TS]

01:35:14   fun to see a show like that on TV and [TS]

01:35:16   then the budget mostly supported I [TS]

01:35:18   always left when that when the episode [TS]

01:35:19   is over i'm always left wanting to watch [TS]

01:35:21   more [TS]

01:35:22   yeah not only do I want to watch it as [TS]

01:35:23   soon as on when it's over I I wanted not [TS]

01:35:25   to be over i wanted to kano you know I [TS]

01:35:28   felt that way a little bit but actually [TS]

01:35:30   i noticed this year that I was okay at [TS]

01:35:33   the end of an episode of Game of Thrones [TS]

01:35:34   waiting for a week I mean I still wish i [TS]

01:35:38   could keep watching more but I was [TS]

01:35:39   alright with it whereas when I was [TS]

01:35:41   keeping up with orphan black [TS]

01:35:43   when it ended I was just frantically one [TS]

01:35:46   ding the next episode even more and then [TS]

01:35:48   of course the circumstances made that [TS]

01:35:51   not be possible so i ended up being able [TS]

01:35:52   to just save them so i could marathon a [TS]

01:35:54   bunch of them but i think the I think [TS]

01:35:56   the pace and the fact that it's epic [TS]

01:35:58   fantasy with Game of Thrones I i'm used [TS]

01:36:01   to reading you know big long series of [TS]

01:36:03   books that door being opened millions of [TS]

01:36:05   words long so i think i was a little bit [TS]

01:36:08   more okay with it it playing out [TS]

01:36:10   week-to-week and then this teenage [TS]

01:36:12   sometimes I'm not used to that because [TS]

01:36:13   I'm used to just mainlining shows its I [TS]

01:36:16   think that a season of Game of Thrones [TS]

01:36:17   cost like 18 million dollars [TS]

01:36:19   it is not a cheap shale that's better [TS]

01:36:21   yeah but it is the number-one HBO show [TS]

01:36:24   of all time so ratings wise so it's got [TS]

01:36:27   that what a world we live in [TS]

01:36:29   yeah an epic show based on an epic [TS]

01:36:32   fantasy that was written 13 years ago [TS]

01:36:34   that I thought no one in pop culture [TS]

01:36:36   will ever read this path because it is [TS]

01:36:38   so dense and there are fourteen thousand [TS]

01:36:41   characters film a bottle not available [TS]

01:36:43   and now is the highest-rated HBO show [TS]

01:36:45   ever and i'm seeing like random [TS]

01:36:47   grandmother's reading the books on buses [TS]

01:36:50   yeah weird not really really really it's [TS]

01:36:54   just kind of weird [TS]

01:36:55   yeah it still hasn't it still hasn't [TS]

01:36:57   done inspired me to go back and try to [TS]

01:36:58   finish the book so I i I've enjoyed I've [TS]

01:37:03   enjoyed all the books and when the next [TS]

01:37:06   one comes out I'll probably go back and [TS]

01:37:07   actually read them which i haven't done [TS]

01:37:10   only read them straight for one time so [TS]

01:37:12   i actually started started reading them [TS]

01:37:14   because i heard that they were going to [TS]

01:37:15   make an HBO series i don't like my [TS]

01:37:18   sister was like oh my god i love these [TS]

01:37:19   books you have to read them and I tried [TS]

01:37:20   and it was just such a slug that I [TS]

01:37:22   thought of giving up near the end of the [TS]

01:37:23   second book and even if i finish to [TS]

01:37:25   second but the funny thing about the way [TS]

01:37:28   the way the we've talked about this on [TS]

01:37:30   the TV podcast to is that the fourth and [TS]

01:37:32   fifth books happen contemporaneously [TS]

01:37:35   they're actually pulled some of the [TS]

01:37:37   characters hehe had gone so long without [TS]

01:37:40   writing a book that they pulled some [TS]

01:37:41   stunt chapters of certain characters and [TS]

01:37:44   made the fourth book out of that and [TS]

01:37:46   then the fifth book starts and it's the [TS]

01:37:47   other characters that weren't in the [TS]

01:37:49   fourth book during the same time and [TS]

01:37:51   it's a whole mess and it turns out I i [TS]

01:37:53   mentioned this the sunday night when we [TS]

01:37:56   were recording it turns out the true [TS]

01:37:57   true to form a fan has [TS]

01:37:59   gone together and put like a chapter [TS]

01:38:01   order if you merge those things back [TS]

01:38:03   together how to read them and one of [TS]

01:38:05   these days they will probably ruin [TS]

01:38:06   release that book in that form because [TS]

01:38:08   it's much better that way I'm sure but i [TS]

01:38:11   found a website where somebody actually [TS]

01:38:12   had taken the chapters and made a new [TS]

01:38:13   like a book [TS]

01:38:15   I'll called something like a ball of [TS]

01:38:18   beasts with me ridiculous like that but [TS]

01:38:21   it's literally like book for in book [TS]

01:38:23   five just jam together which is kind of [TS]

01:38:25   kind of clever so if I reread the series [TS]

01:38:27   i'm gonna do when i read it that way [TS]

01:38:28   we're gonna be interesting that graph [TS]

01:38:30   that you tweeted and retweeted where [TS]

01:38:31   someone took the books and the [TS]

01:38:33   television series individual episodes [TS]

01:38:35   and grass out with scenes what chapter [TS]

01:38:39   chapters from the book appear in which [TS]

01:38:40   seems and you can see like season one [TS]

01:38:42   was just pulled almost entirely from [TS]

01:38:44   book 1 and then it's a nice thick line [TS]

01:38:46   and then as you go in later seasons the [TS]

01:38:47   dot start to spread out and that graph [TS]

01:38:49   was almost unreadable but just looking [TS]

01:38:51   at the shape of things showed that the [TS]

01:38:52   season was all over the place [TS]

01:38:54   yeah I did the chart sort of follows but [TS]

01:38:57   yet this season they were pulling from [TS]

01:38:58   all all sorts of places because like I [TS]

01:39:00   said they were there were 22 character [TS]

01:39:02   arc said just you know they had to do [TS]

01:39:05   something with generis and they had to [TS]

01:39:07   do something with brand and so they just [TS]

01:39:10   pulled all their story forward which [TS]

01:39:12   leads to the next question which is what [TS]

01:39:14   do they do with those characters now and [TS]

01:39:16   invent things is probably the answer [TS]

01:39:18   brand is going to be like like every [TS]

01:39:22   seen it once ya one scene every week [TS]

01:39:25   will be a tree will the walk pups [TS]

01:39:28   characters will walk past a tree and [TS]

01:39:30   we'll see eyes in the tree and will be [TS]

01:39:31   brand like I see you every year whisper [TS]

01:39:34   and wasn't there seen from an unreleased [TS]

01:39:36   book is there one dot on this graph it [TS]

01:39:38   yeah yeah in the book that hasn't even [TS]

01:39:40   been released yet so the television [TS]

01:39:41   series is now ahead of the book yeah [TS]

01:39:43   well I think that's a chapter that he [TS]

01:39:44   posted somewhere that or has read [TS]

01:39:46   somewhere so it's written chapter but [TS]

01:39:48   because he cut like the last five [TS]

01:39:50   chapters or something up the most recent [TS]

01:39:52   book that he just cut them and they're [TS]

01:39:54   in the next book instead because [TS]

01:39:56   essentially he just continues writing at [TS]

01:39:58   some point they put down a up a bar and [TS]

01:40:02   say okay here print here and they cut [TS]

01:40:05   the scroll and he continues to write in [TS]

01:40:07   his dungeon and I just I I read [TS]

01:40:09   someplace that so [TS]

01:40:11   if this saga started off as a trilogy [TS]

01:40:13   and then it grew into five books and [TS]

01:40:16   then they said okay seriously just seven [TS]

01:40:18   books now I've read that it maybe eight [TS]

01:40:19   books so who knows if we'll ever end [TS]

01:40:22   yeah lifetime here he comes anyway II [TS]

01:40:26   know George but they have a plan [TS]

01:40:30   sure they do like the Cylons they have a [TS]

01:40:33   plan what was the Cylons plan i don't [TS]

01:40:36   think they actually did have a plan i [TS]

01:40:37   think that was a lie anyway but that's [TS]

01:40:39   another podcast or anything more before [TS]

01:40:41   we go about Game of Thrones TV rots your [TS]

01:40:45   brain [TS]

01:40:46   I know that it's true 28 brains but his [TS]

01:40:52   brain [TS]

01:40:53   yeah that's the walking dead though for [TS]

01:40:54   Spock's brain at the final episode [TS]

01:40:56   sterger alright well this was a lot of [TS]

01:40:59   fun talking about TV we should do this [TS]
