The Incomparable

192: Murderous Roomba

the incomparable number 192 april 2014 [TS]

welcome back to be uncomfortable podcast [TS]

podcast that should be renamed the draft [TS]

cast because I when in doubt i like to [TS]

draft things and I like to have people [TS]

draft things and I thought this would be [TS]

a funny idea and so tonight we are [TS]

grafting robots / androids basically [TS]

they can't be computers we drafted [TS]

computers in our macro xbox episode this [TS]

year they need to be sort of mobile but [TS]

they can be robots or androids or you [TS]

know judges can judge about other sorts [TS]

of things but ideally kind of autonomous [TS]

artificial life-forms from all of space [TS]

and time from all different kinds of TV [TS]

and movies and books and comics and [TS]

anything else you can think of so we're [TS]

going to real-life can include real-life [TS]

  you sure [TS]

awesome fine if you want to do that [TS]

Steve go ahead let me introduce my panel [TS]

of drafters will be joining me [TS]

we will be assembled five super teams of [TS]

  the finest artificial intelligences [TS]

invented by people Steve let's who I [TS]

just exchanged pleasantries with hello [TS]

Steve top of the morning to you [TS]

top of the morning to you I was not told [TS]

that we would be producing super teams [TS]

so i will be producing barely adequate t [TS]

just call it a super team and that's all [TS]

nobody will ask questions it's super [TS]

adequate yeah let's find adequate [TS]

  capacity is important [TS]

David laura is also assembling an [TS]

artificial intelligence uh task force [TS]

  hello [TS]

I I suppose that's one word for it sure [TS]

sure i'm not trying to apply some level [TS]

of of obscenity to this insane thing I'd [TS]

spread of the near Jackson sure sure [TS]

Erica and sign also going to be [TS]

assembling her robot all-stars hello [TS]

  hello [TS]

yeah I didn't realize it was supposed to [TS]

be a super team either so this is just [TS]

going to be a team that Eric is just [TS]

really excited to hang out with how [TS]

about that that's fine that's pretty [TS]

super in its own way that's right so [TS]

most people just go with this premise be [TS]

like yeah sure they're super whatever [TS]

but you guys are like man know about [TS]

  that [TS]

not something I'm gonna be fine Monty [TS]

ashley is also out there he's going to [TS]

also assemble a list of robots hello [TS]

I will commit mostly to that description [TS]

it's mostly mostly a list of robots and [TS]

or androids maybe tree of robots it it's [TS]

there could be some logical form to it [TS]

and so here's how the draft order is [TS]

going to go it's been selected at random [TS]

  by me [TS]

it's gonna be David Oh David then Monty [TS]

  Oh America [TS]

oh then Steve yeah and i will go last [TS]

any Jason wait a minute you always go [TS]

last so technically I'm last in the [TS]

order now I'm always last [TS]

you're you're you're the worst of the [TS]

other people that goes without saying I [TS]

think your last year--last equals don't [TS]

feel bad Steve your-your-your equal in [TS]

my heart if not in the order i feel that [TS]

David lower you get the first pick of [TS]

any robot or Android ever [TS]

what would you like oh man see I [TS]

prepared this list of robots assuming [TS]

that I was gonna get you know they were [TS]

all gonna get picked out from under me [TS]

so i just i started going obscure but [TS]

you know what I'm gonna go with robby [TS]

the robot ah from Forbidden Planet nice [TS]

gotta check that off my list and and a [TS]

movie called the invisible boy where [TS]

he's supposed to be the same robot as in [TS]

forbidden planet which is kind of weird [TS]

so what makes Robby the Robot mean what [TS]

makes Robby the Robot interesting and [TS]

what makes them different from the robot [TS]

that's in lost in space [TS]

well because I could never tell those [TS]

two apart he actually appeared lost in [TS]

space once but he's not the danger Will [TS]

Robinson robot now that's just the robot [TS]

alright he's referred to as the robot [TS]

okay yeah he is he's a little more [TS]

  interesting he's gone [TS]

you know just a more interesting design [TS]

with all his sort of Clockwork [TS]

mechanisms that are visible and he was [TS]

on the the twilight zone at least once [TS]

to because basically built this thing in [TS]

there Michael cheese we built a robot [TS]

reported in things now what do you do [TS]

  with it [TS]

yeah it's like a guy it's like he's sort [TS]

of like the Michelin Man with a dome for [TS]

  ahead [TS]

yes and and like one thing sticking out [TS]

the side of his head one thing sticking [TS]

at the top of his head and doesn't look [TS]

very comfortable to move in but where [TS]

what does but i just i remember seeing [TS]

the invisible boy years and years ago [TS]

after had seen forbidden planet and [TS]

thinking well it's great that they [TS]

reused him but then you know it was [TS]

clear that you know this was a robot [TS]

sent back in time and this brilliant [TS]

child reassembles and when all the [TS]

scientists can't and and the more [TS]

complicated this movie got the more I [TS]

thought wow this is a really weird [TS]

little universe of its own because by [TS]

that point I was already thinking in [TS]

terms of your star trek universe and [TS]

star wars and Doctor Who and Galactica [TS]

you know they all have their own [TS]

existences and here's this you know [TS]

whoever knew that forbidden planet had [TS]

any other story connected to it but this [TS]

is a really strange story to connect to [TS]

it because it's it's about a little boy [TS]

who is lonely he has no friends and he [TS]

rebuilds this robot that's been sent [TS]

back in time when his father is just [TS]

going to destroy it because he can't [TS]

rebuild it and the robot becomes his [TS]

friend and then somehow grants him the [TS]

power of invisibility and so they go [TS]

around pulling pranks on people and then [TS]

it gets serious and weird and you know [TS]

it's it's not at all a good movie in [TS]

  that stretch [TS]

um you know what I've seen this how have [TS]

I seen this may be familiar [TS]

well it's one of those things that you [TS]

just sort of run across at least you [TS]

know that's that's how i found it in the [TS]

eighties is on you know the middle of [TS]

the night after Saturday Night Live one [TS]

night and who robot sure as he has one [TS]

does as you do and I mean yeah I mean [TS]

literally the only reason i watched it [TS]

was because i love the robot i love i [TS]

love the clicking and flipping knows of [TS]

gears and mechanisms that are visible in [TS]

the dome which is you know after well [TS]

that's the only thing you really want to [TS]

pay attention to in the movie [TS]

well the swiss swiss engineers who built [TS]

all the gears to keep him [TS]

yes very impressive engineering their [TS]

clothes are ripped precision gears and [TS]

you know i mean the robot lost in space [TS]

a little bit of a ripoff but you know [TS]

and and I don't know if they were built [TS]

  by the same [TS]

person or not they were they were they [TS]

were designed by the same person yeah [TS]

  okay [TS]

he was not very original if we had one [TS]

  good idea [TS]

well and I mean urban Ellen being [TS]

Rennell and he probably said make it [TS]

look as much like the robot as you can [TS]

because everyone Ellen ok but yeah I [TS]

mean forbidden planet is a great movie i [TS]

mean that's just you know it'sit's the [TS]

tempest in space and you know that's [TS]

pretty good template to go off clothes [TS]

for a mad scientist and exile every [TS]

night I still just remember shrieking [TS]

monsters from the CID when I was about [TS]

eight and didn't want to go to bed and [TS]

my mother knew even then it's just a lot [TS]

of God you David it audience and [TS]

incidentally bit of incomparable related [TS]

trivia movie the fellow inside the suit [TS]

operating the robot an uncredited [TS]

Frankie Darrow who who previously [TS]

appeared in The Phantom Empire cereal [TS]

Gene Autry he was there the young young [TS]

boy Robin a robot comin through it it's [TS]

like that you've gotta get my cardboard [TS]

oiled bit of a nishan reform Frankie [TS]

dares that's great it's yeah interesting [TS]

all right Robbie the robot Robby the [TS]

Robot fair enough but is the name is a [TS]

famous he's one of the more famous [TS]

robots Monty it's your turn to pick a [TS]

  robot [TS]

well since I'm so early in the list [TS]

obviously the main thing you want a [TS]

robot for is to be your pal to hang out [TS]

with to watch movies with yes [TS]

so I'm gonna have to pick protein robot [TS]

ah he has the word robot writing his [TS]

name you take the bad one excuse me sir [TS]

  I'm a servo man i'm i'm a server means [TS]

with servo can't even walk out of the [TS]

theater i'm with you want i love crow [TS]

wisecracker easy west and I'm different [TS]

it it technically and taking the tres [TS]

blue version of crow with that's [TS]

necessary that is that well it's not [TS]

necessary but I appreciate your [TS]

careful consideration yeah bill Corbett [TS]

  will be heartbroken [TS]

me and my robot pal have many pleasant [TS]

hours making fun of tell making fun of [TS]

movies and television y that so he's a a [TS]

bowling pin sod in half [TS]

I'll across mass case what else there's [TS]

a soap dish holding two ping-pong balls [TS]

and his body is a tupperware flora [TS]

leaders set or originally anyway [TS]

obviously they'd back you formulas [TS]

pieces they had a whole bunch of them [TS]

floor layers at the shape or is that the [TS]

name of somebody who designed that [TS]

  particular tupperware set [TS]

it's the name of the shape i think it [TS]

was out of print by the time [TS]

crow showed up so it's very hard to find [TS]

  very clever [TS]

makes knocking off kurti robot more [TS]

difficult geeks out there the great name [TS]

for a baby daughter or just name your [TS]

daughter crow I mean people love [TS]

Corbett's i always love grow and we have [TS]

more to say about credible or we hit the [TS]

lightning round already with the second [TS]

pic my life i love crow crow is screw is [TS]

great and Enes that bowling pin mouth [TS]

there's a optical illusion named after [TS]

him I think that's kind of neat how cool [TS]

that way you can tell if housing forward [TS]

or backwards right yeah yeah he is [TS]

facing the screen but it's really easy [TS]

to convince yourself he's facing the [TS]

camera when he's in silhouette I did [TS]

that a couple of times when i first [TS]

started watching the show was like [TS]

  what's going on [TS]

stop looking at me so why they're [TS]

  looking at me [TS]

uh okay crow T robot that's great the T [TS]

stands for probably the probably them [TS]

also Tiberius we would have Erika you [TS]

get to pick a robot now crows off the [TS]

board but cambot is still available and [TS]

gypsy go crazy and gypsy i had actually [TS]

written not as my first pick but I had [TS]

it somewhere down the line written Tom [TS]

servo crossed him out and put gypsy and [TS]

instead because I feel like she's very [TS]

  under representative she's great [TS]

Richard besar but not my first pick [TS]

fulfilling my doctor who quota for the [TS]

  day [TS]

since I think I'm required by contract [TS]

to mention dr. about every episode be [TS]

uncomfortable but i'm on i am going to [TS]

pick no surprise to anybody that knows [TS]

me canine I almost spotted UK night at [TS]

the beginning because I knew that was [TS]

where we were going here let the choice [TS]

mistress i will cry i will crash i will [TS]

cross him off my list because he was on [TS]

  my list [TS]

yes I canine up here on Doctor Who first [TS]

in 1977 in the story the invisible enemy [TS]

voiced very well by John Leeson at that [TS]

point later on they decided that canine [TS]

had a robot laryngitis because John [TS]

Leeson left the show that is briefly [TS]

voiced by David brierley and then John [TS]

Leeson came back to his lair just got [TS]

  better [TS]

so um yay he got they got him some robot [TS]

  dog mom [TS]

I adore canine and it's probably a lot [TS]

of nostalgia involved in this i was i [TS]

was a kid the first time I saw him and I [TS]

was just like talking metal doggy [TS]

what more could you ask for as a kid it [TS]

was just he was super smart he was [TS]

completely smug he took everything [TS]

literally and I was kind of one of those [TS]

obnoxious literal kids that would just [TS]

you know do everything my parents told [TS]

me to to the letter of the who what they [TS]

  said [TS]

instead of this spirit of it so he got [TS]

my good side that way but canines [TS]

interesting because there are a number [TS]

of canines I think we're up to mark for [TS]

at this point because the very first [TS]

canine decided to stay on the doctors [TS]

home planet with one of his companions [TS]

second canine got trapped nasai except [TS]

well he's decided to stay with another [TS]

of the doctor's companions in east mesa [TS]

  a pocket universe [TS]

don't ask by the way don't ask about a [TS]

space yeah you really don't want the [TS]

details the canine marks three actually [TS]

did not appear in doctor who had all [TS]

that was a spinoff series canine and [TS]

company which didn't really go anywhere [TS]

  really [TS]

spinoff pilot that that fails i got a [TS]

great theme song mailman themes lot with [TS]

k-9 and company it's your very close [TS]

Steve it is accepting more eighties dude [TS]

it to do get I it's a super Kathy catchy [TS]

  theme song [TS]

k nite the opening credits are online [TS]

  highly recommended [TS]

oh it there so eighties you see Sarah [TS]

Jane's Sarah Jane Smith is sitting like [TS]

on the porch wearing leg warmers [TS]

drinking a glass of red wine it just [TS]

doesn't get any better than that [TS]

opening theme song i recommend you guys [TS]

go and check it out because it's great [TS]

and that canine from canine company is [TS]

actually the canine that then appeared [TS]

later in the new version of Doctor Who [TS]

in school reunion went 3rd gen came back [TS]

and he sacrificed himself to the end of [TS]

that story was very sad but then the [TS]

doctor whipped up canine mark for and [TS]

that is who is one of the costars of the [TS]

sarah jane adventures another spin-off [TS]

this one which actually took it [TS]

somewhere rather than being cancelled [TS]

after the pilot and we're canine is a [TS]

lesser character and not be center of [TS]

attention as in gay night and company [TS]

surging your company just company i was [TS]

just gonna say the shifted the focus the [TS]

  right way this time [TS]

yes yep they got it to work I love that [TS]

school reunion episode 2i I always [TS]

thought about k management co this [TS]

ridiculous thing that was in the old [TS]

doctor who along with all the other [TS]

ridiculous things when they brought him [TS]

back not only does it have this intense [TS]

feeling of nostalgia but i love how he's [TS]

he's at first played for laughs like why [TS]

you have what you have the tin dog and [TS]

then there's a wonderful moment where [TS]

where Mickey roses sometime boyfriend [TS]

realizes that his place in the modern [TS]

Doctor Who cassie is the robot dog and [TS]

it really lays him low is like oh god [TS]

I'm the 10 dog it's a wonderful man and [TS]

where to realize your cane I just like [TS]

out out out even canine is kind of mean [TS]

to Mickey yeah yeah really is that and I [TS]

mean I i think another reason that they [TS]

did that is because the day actors [TS]

absolutely hated working with that dog [TS]

prop back in the in the seventies and [TS]

eighties because it couldn't go over [TS]

terrain of any comment over terrain they [TS]

had to crouch down to talk to him they [TS]

would sometimes actually a trip over him [TS]

that the noise was so much that it would [TS]

pick it up they have to reshoot scenes [TS]

because motors and servos for too noisy [TS]

he could only turn right very easily [TS]

  with it's pretty ridiculous [TS]

for canine that's all canine and they're [TS]

there is like a cgi produced in [TS]

Australia carpeting of card children's [TS]

cartoon TV show that is all about [TS]

  keeping it [TS]

actually live action but he's canine is [TS]

in CGI and apparently has the ability to [TS]

regenerate that however it does not [TS]

technically take place in the Doctor Who [TS]

universe it's a not canonical at all [TS]

  it's not no it's not b/c it's a bob [TS]

baker and Dave Martin who created the [TS]

character of canine still own the rights [TS]

decay nine so they were able to spin off [TS]

this show but they're not allowed to [TS]

actually like reference any of the [TS]

Doctor Who characters on that show we [TS]

don't speaking out we don't don't just [TS]

don't go fetch my sonic screwdriver [TS]

Oh No dopey oil in the TARDIS came at [TS]

you are you are very close but again [TS]

more since or require you steep you will [TS]

get to pick a robot now Steve ah ok i'm [TS]

so glad that erica is a doctor who and [TS]

can be pretty much guaranteed to go [TS]

Doctor Who because that means with mst3k [TS]

basically taken out of the running [TS]

I still get to pick one of my favorite [TS]

robots I turned 42 this year and i now [TS]

have an ipad with don't panic engraved [TS]

on the back so it only makes sense then [TS]

I would select Marvin the Paranoid [TS]

Android as my first draft pick [TS]

he is of course the ship's robot aboard [TS]

  the heart of gold [TS]

I a prototype for the Sirius cybernetics [TS]

  corporation is genuine people [TS]

  personalities [TS]

naturally he's your plastic pal who's [TS]

  fun to be with [TS]

he is a failed prototype receiving as he [TS]

did and utterly depressive personality [TS]

he spends most of his time griping about [TS]

the fact that he's millions of times [TS]

more intelligent than humans and yet [TS]

he's basically reduced to getting tea [TS]

  for the crew [TS]

in fact i think it doesn't end up stuck [TS]

on a prehistoric planet and he just [TS]

forced us to wait there until [TS]

civilization kind of builds up around [TS]

  him that sounds right [TS]

yes the way they're all the way until [TS]

the end of the universe [TS]

oh that's right that's they don't pick [TS]

him up until the end of the universe [TS]

  that's right it's magical [TS]

yeah so yeah Marvin great well that was [TS]

a very good pic I guess [TS]

which version do you like the best I [TS]

favor book Marvin because i don't think [TS]

any of the actual TV show or movie [TS]

Marvins really captured it for me [TS]

although the original I think it's the [TS]

original TV show Marvin is pretty solid [TS]

because he looks he looks like he should [TS]

be depressed it's supported it live [TS]

don't talk to me about life he's great i [TS]

love you i love TV show Morgan pretty [TS]

solid Radiohead song came from him as [TS]

  well [TS]

yes indeed you so I'm big fan of Marvin [TS]

in fact as as a high school speech team [TS]

a president I spent a year traveling [TS]

around the inland empire doing a really [TS]

awful depressed British accent it's part [TS]

of my universe interpretation good [TS]

  speech [TS]

Steve Steve you and I have something [TS]

shocking in common which is my high [TS]

school speech class we had to do a we [TS]

had to perform a dialogue and the [TS]

dialogue i performed is processor and [TS]

Arthur Dent arguing about whether [TS]

they're going to demolish his house or [TS]

not nice to nerds as for me I'm saying [TS]

yeah you could say that nerds and I also [TS]

had to do a thing in in drama class and [TS]

in high school where was the we did for [TS]

dinner thur in the bar [TS]

wow I did nothing performative but it's [TS]

been several months engage in a vicious [TS]

game of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy [TS]

  trivia with someone [TS]

ok the winning question was what color [TS]

is the sash that the president of the [TS]

universe where's oh wow there's a clear [TS]

turns out that orange oh well it's good [TS]

lawyer weren't any hitchhikers related [TS]

questions in the genus addition of 30 [TS]

you can because you would have mopped [TS]

the floor this all that quicker I feel [TS]

like everyone would have popped the [TS]

  floor with everyone [TS]

no not me I came I came to hitchhiker's [TS]

guide to late didn't hit me right time [TS]

I'm reliving that was as my [TS]

twelve-year-old is just finished the [TS]

first one well cut him off after book [TS]

  three or four [TS]

yes yeah 3 come over into the dirt [TS]

gently books I just skip for and go [TS]

straight that don't panic i like I'm not [TS]

  don't panic [TS]

what is that was last but mostly [TS]

harmless mostly harmless i like that [TS]

actually and I know what that's a rarity [TS]

don't panic is neil gaiman his biography [TS]

of Douglas and that's right all right [TS]

Marvin the Paranoid Android very good [TS]

i'm up my choice I kind of can't believe [TS]

  he's still out there [TS]

he's he's Star Trek's Pinocchio its data [TS]

mr. data the android who wishes he could [TS]

be a real boy he's got yellow yellow [TS]

  eyes [TS]

oh yes uh he has sex with Tasha Yar one [TS]

point he adopts a daughter at another [TS]

point he has an emotion ship that's [TS]

faulty so sometimes he's scared and [TS]

lesser next-generation movies and then [TS]

he learns to control it but the adoption [TS]

one is one of the very few [TS]

  next-generation episodes i've seen [TS]

what's her name is like little or law or [TS]

something law law it's really law [TS]

yeah lal yeah and measure of a man which [TS]

is one of my favorite next generation [TS]

episode where there's a court case to [TS]

determine whether data is sentient or [TS]

not which is a bit of a tearjerker [TS]

actually which would expect from a [TS]

sci-fi courtroom drama and yet it is [TS]

actually kind of emotional you know I [TS]

think I think data is is in some ways [TS]

the heart and soul of next-generation he [TS]

goes from being a kind of a spock [TS]

placeholder in the early days to being [TS]

  interesting funny [TS]

very well done character / over time so [TS]

I'll of data and he has a cat he doesn't [TS]

get spot apparent apparently people [TS]

hated working with spot just like they [TS]

hated working with can hide and Brent [TS]

for brent Spiner I cannot imagine how [TS]

many hours he had to go through in [TS]

makeup everyday to have his funny little [TS]

metallic face paint probably gave him [TS]

horrible like poisoning symptoms heavy [TS]

  metal boys [TS]

nothing but those yellow eyes were just [TS]

a side effect of the makeup that's right [TS]

he did need a contact that was that was [TS]

the lending a poison apple [TS]

alright so that's that's my back date [TS]

mr. data Lieutenant Commander data [TS]

David it's time for round two and that [TS]

means it's your turn round two [TS]

well now do intelligent computers [TS]

counter these only like only if they've [TS]

got a body if there if there any if ther [TS]

a computer then there in the computer [TS]

draft which we have already recorded [TS]

although you may not know the results of [TS]

it because it hasn't been posted yet so [TS]

i'll wait a minute wait a minute [TS]

yeah we're doing a eyes fall in the [TS]

scheme of things because to be a two to [TS]

be a robot or Android they must have a [TS]

they must have a body if they're defined [TS]

body is it okay if the computer controls [TS]

something that can move around or just [TS]

have to be human-shaped well we'll just [TS]

will will will judge that as a combat [TS]

adjusting my list as we speak [TS]

it's not the computer draft this is the [TS]

  robot draft it's different [TS]

will how 9000 is not a robot [TS]

he has no bodies as justice he has a [TS]

spaceship for a body's ship is the body [TS]

no also he will kill you do not draft [TS]

him he will kill you all [TS]

now we can this is true oh now we can't [TS]

have murderous robot that's half my list [TS]

oh I just don't advise it you can have [TS]

you can have murders robots I just I'm [TS]

just as your friend advising you that [TS]

they will kill you if you drafted by Yul [TS]

Brynner when your brother in West world [TS]

is available your brother in the king [TS]

and I'm not available not a robot but [TS]

the room by robotic vacuum is still on [TS]

the board yes although also murderous so [TS]

be careful i'm gonna go with the robot [TS]

from the show i watched regularly when I [TS]

was little it is not very good i knew at [TS]

  the time [TS]

biddy biddy biddy that it was not very [TS]

  good [TS]

there you go BB hey back a butt and [TS]

you're gonna pick dr. Theophilus that's [TS]

right i was gonna I was gonna go for the [TS]

24 because you know TWiki without dr. [TS]

Theophilus kanda pouring all but with [TS]

  dr. Theophilus he's our [TS]

bring ballpark a little less boring he [TS]

lights up TWiki as a robot you don't get [TS]

to pick both twiki and dr. Theophilus [TS]

dr. Theophilus team the chest hair [TS]

medallion of of computers portable [TS]

computers it was the late seventies you [TS]

get you can have TWiki but ya know I i [TS]

love Twinkie because you know Mel Blanc [TS]

how can you not like a voicemail blank [TS]

making fun of Buck the whole time with [TS]

that sort of like weird blend of [TS]

Yosemite Sam and Porky Pig going and and [TS]

just you know there was a point in 1988 [TS]

i think when i was on a date with a girl [TS]

who pointed out that the guitar riff all [TS]

throughout paul simon's graceland is [TS]

basically just a bbbj a buck right [TS]

oh my god wow so there you go Ricky [TS]

ok everybody hasn't seen buck walk [TS]

Rogers I just want to say that David [TS]

makes it seem better than hey man I want [TS]

to hang onto my fun memories from being [TS]

a kid don't you don't crush them so [TS]

don't go back and watch it [TS]

that's what I'm saying but it is mel [TS]

blanc voice of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig [TS]

and many other characters being a [TS]

  seventies TV disco robot [TS]

I don't know man aaron gray carries a [TS]

whole lot of goodwill on that show for [TS]

me i agree with you Steve I'm right [TS]

  there with you [TS]

I thought the best part of that show was [TS]

the exterior spaceship shots they just [TS]

borrowed from Battlestar Galactica and [TS]

the helmets like I would have been [TS]

  collected continue [TS]

yeah I'm with Steve Erin gray probably [TS]

the highlight pre a pre silver spoons [TS]

Erin gray she was only reason i watch [TS]

  silver spoons [TS]

yeah well that in the giant train that [TS]

was cool she was blonde and inbox Rogers [TS]

the dark hair and silver spoons very [TS]

disturbing that I love to this first [TS]

season like white uniforms with the [TS]

rainbow cuffs on their their sleeves [TS]

that was there with those were nice haha [TS]

Monty it's your turn to pick a robot but [TS]

it does anybody know it has flavor flav [TS]

ever been seen sporting dr. Theophilus [TS]

some somebody should wear a dr. [TS]

Theophilus necklace because I anyway I [TS]

would think that was hilarious [TS]

yes Jason yes Monty kit is a robot [TS]

yeah as a computer sorry guess I in fact [TS]

it is a robot car it in fact spoiler [TS]

alert kit was a previous selection just [TS]

just the other day in our computer draft [TS]

and therefore i'm going to declare him [TS]

  ineligible [TS]

how can you say that an automobile [TS]

  doesn't have a body well I think it's a [TS]

vehicle i think computers controlling [TS]

  vehicles are computers controlling [TS]

vehicles not robots where there's an [TS]

implication that there's some sort of [TS]

biological form that develop presenting [TS]

so well let let me suggest to you that [TS]

car car also ineligible automated roving [TS]

robot yeah alright that's nice but I'm [TS]

gonna I'm gonna say no to get 0 me and [TS]

crow are very disappointed because we [TS]

were going to have some fun huh [TS]

is that how you guys were going to get [TS]

around yeah can be mean probe to land [TS]

around kit i would watch that right so [TS]

I'm gonna go with something else with [TS]

the word robot its name [TS]

are you gonna tell me robot monster is [TS]

not a robot haha hi it's hardly it could [TS]

be like a Bigfoot it's hard to tell from [TS]

the costume it's difficult to tell if [TS]

it's purely organic with a kind of a [TS]

controlling thing or not but I if it is [TS]

in the title so i'll let you have Robot [TS]

  Master if you like [TS]

alright then my pic is robot monster the [TS]

titular creature of some sort probably a [TS]

robot body humanity i must yet I cannot [TS]

he had on a gorilla suit and a fishbowl [TS]

kind of space helmet sort of diving [TS]

helmet with it within ten he lived in a [TS]

cave in los angeles where Kirk and Spock [TS]

used to go a lot and he had a big [TS]

communicating machine that sped out [TS]

  bubbles [TS]

yes I can verify all of the blood [TS]

modulus said is true when I did the [TS]

bubbles actually come from the suit or [TS]

did that they were just like in the [TS]

vicinity right wherever he would appear [TS]

that they were from the communicator [TS]

machine i think oh ok ok not a while now [TS]

interestingly this robot is playing [TS]

  laurence well [TS]

robot monster has not met crow but crow [TS]

has seen robot monster so i think we'll [TS]

all have something to talk about that [TS]

makes sense well planned out there [TS]

alright I think that helps to break the [TS]

ice robot monster probably a robot [TS]

probably robot will give that one to you [TS]

because I feel bad about it but it was [TS]

already picked so we can't we can't go [TS]

  back there [TS]

he calls himself a row man at one point [TS]

roman' yes as opposed to the human robot [TS]

monster Erica what is your robot you get [TS]

to pick a robot now [TS]

ok I could have continued as Doctor Who [TS]

but i decided i would have to decide [TS]

from that lots more robots and Doctor [TS]

Who lots but instead of you got the best [TS]

robot you got the best one I really did [TS]

  I really did [TS]

instead I'm gonna go with a different [TS]

British property and go with Crichton [TS]

from red dwarf oh I creating who [TS]

appeared first in the episode Crichton [TS]

in series too he wasn't actually [TS]

supposed to be a regular character he [TS]

was supposed to be a one-off he he rides [TS]

off on Lister's space bike at the end of [TS]

that episode to be trying to become cool [TS]

but then in the next season [TS]

Doug naylor realized we really kind of [TS]

need another character in here who can [TS]

do something because right at that time [TS]

they were there is a hologram [TS]

there was a humanoid sort of cat guy and [TS]

mr. knows it so I like we need to bring [TS]

him back so they did and the original [TS]

guy who was supposed to play him David [TS]

Ross who played him in that first [TS]

episode was unavailable he was doing [TS]

something so they found robert Llewellyn [TS]

instead and he became the Krytan that [TS]

most of us remember and know and love [TS]

so I and you may know him as the [TS]

original host of junkyard wars / [TS]

scrapheap challenge yes a wonderful [TS]

reality show and hosted by Crichton read [TS]

for mhm yeah Crichton was I his [TS]

personality always made me laugh because [TS]

he was a a lovely balance of completely [TS]

subservient because he was supposed to [TS]

be sort of just the the butler style [TS]

robot who developed the cooking and [TS]

cleaning and all that kind of stuff but [TS]

he had spent his early existence with [TS]

you know a whole bunch of [TS]

pretty ladies is what it looks like and [TS]

then a whole bunch of very pretty [TS]

  Corpses for several here [TS]

yeah eventually because he went crazy [TS]

and then he and he ends up with webster [TS]

who's this lobbyists man in the universe [TS]

and he's very upset about it and I just [TS]

I like watching robert Llewellyn does a [TS]

great job with all that foam makeup on [TS]

his head of contorting his face far [TS]

enough that it actually can towards the [TS]

foam as well and that you can tell he's [TS]

very upset about things but he's always [TS]

nice about it when and sometimes I feel [TS]

a little bit like that i like the foam [TS]

face i like how would you get the [TS]

feeling that that's how Crichton has [TS]

been constructed as he sort of a a foam [TS]

a phone-based room but you can have my [TS]

bread Robert Llewellyn's book the man in [TS]

the rubber mask which is about him being [TS]

on red dwarf and he seems very angry [TS]

about the fact that several times in the [TS]

series he would get a two-page speech [TS]

that starts with there are several [TS]

reasons we cannot do this and that he [TS]

has to talk for several minutes and then [TS]

any job Jules as the cat would get to [TS]

say i was with you up until you said [TS]

there are several and then the audience [TS]

  would go crazy [TS]

no one had to memorize pages of [TS]

  technical nonsense except robert [TS]

Llewellyn because that was his old job [TS]

through but he did it so well so that's [TS]

that's why he and canine in our area are [TS]

  going to hang out [TS]

alright fair enough that's a good 1i [TS]

picked right now that now that I'm [TS]

thinking about it in a team sort of [TS]

aspect i picked crying because he will [TS]

do my laundry and fix me suffer and only [TS]

that you don't actually have any rocket [TS]

pads exactly this is good because canine [TS]

is not really useful unless you delays [TS]

or something so and any as vacuum [TS]

attachments that attached to his torso [TS]

ccnp no comment your cleaning time to [TS]

take a break for a word from our sponsor [TS]

its proflowers.com now if mom's not [TS]

again if mom isn't happy [TS]

no one is happy thank you proflowers.com [TS]

sending flowers to my mom and for [TS]

  sponsoring the uncomfortable [TS]

Steve you get to pick a robot now [TS]

hopefully I don't know this whole day I [TS]

rule is really torn my lists under here [TS]

into computers are not robots i'm pretty [TS]

sure the original email you sent out [TS]

  included a [TS]

eyes but I don't know they have to have [TS]

bodies so I suppose glasses off the [TS]

table then let us also picked in our [TS]

case how much about Max Headroom are not [TS]

a robot know with Gladys gun and I guess [TS]

show dan is is gone as well I don't even [TS]

  know what that is [TS]

that is a that well in that case I pic [TS]

showed that it's a robot as far as you [TS]

know the sentient hyper optimized data [TS]

access network it's clearly a robot no [TS]

networks or not they have to have bodies [TS]

you know well okay i would i would say [TS]

that show dan has a body in the form of [TS]

the various robots and mutant humans [TS]

  that she controls [TS]

oh she's h cybernetic entity according [TS]

to wikipedia all right fine you can have [TS]

  showdown [TS]

yes hall congratulations alright i'm a [TS]

pic showed and then showed and also [TS]

showed and not picked in our computer [TS]

draft in there for EE eligible good [TS]

this pleases me so yeah show dan is is [TS]

it was the glass before Gladys except [TS]

where Gladys is played for humorous [TS]

effect show dan is really really really [TS]

  creepy [TS]

she's she's from the game might be a he [TS]

but she speaks with a female voice from [TS]

the according to Wikipedia as a [TS]

cybernetic mb showed and has no [TS]

  conventional gender [TS]

ok then so she's it's genderless they [TS]

refer to as a sheet way I think in the [TS]

second just to make it more more more [TS]

simple but anyway yes she's an AI in [TS]

charge of the tri optimum corporations [TS]

Citadel research station and then try [TS]

optimum hires a hacker to remove all [TS]

ethical constraints so they can continue [TS]

  their genetic engineering experiments [TS]

and naturally like all good AI is she [TS]

immediately determines that the humans [TS]

must die at the great thing about showed [TS]

that by the way I may not have mentioned [TS]

it but system shock is the game from [TS]

when she comes and then also the superb [TS]

system shock to the great thing about [TS]

showdown is that she doesn't have any [TS]

direct means to physically harm you so [TS]

she sends out robots and mutants to take [TS]

you out her body proxy as [TS]

it were and then she just talks you [TS]

mercilessly from the station's audio [TS]

system the whole time you're fighting [TS]

for your survival so and she's kind of [TS]

omnipresent throughout the station you [TS]

know she's got cameras as her eyes and [TS]

then of course the robots and mutants [TS]

are always keeping it keeping track of [TS]

you so while you're crawling around [TS]

through the Citadel station and then [TS]

through the Von Braun which is the [TS]

spaceship that you're the derelict ship [TS]

that you're crawling through in the [TS]

second game it's almost like you're [TS]

walking around inside of showed and the [TS]

whole time shes screaming threats at you [TS]

and calling you an insect and mocking [TS]

your feeble efforts to survive in this [TS]

really kind of creepy stuttering voice [TS]

that's actually I think they use three [TS]

different female voices just speaking [TS]

simultaneously in different pitches and [TS]

you are fitted with a cybernetic [TS]

implants so she has means to kind of get [TS]

inside your brain as well so there are [TS]

these really spooky sequences where [TS]

you're just sort of seeing colors and [TS]

kind of in this hallucinogenic state [TS]

while you're being spoken to about how [TS]

you're going to be dismantled and [TS]

reassembled is something else and it's [TS]

just a probably my one of my favorite [TS]

perhaps in the top five favorite [TS]

villains of of any video game that I've [TS]

ever played showed an she's good it's [TS]

  good [TS]

alright and ostensibly a robot for the [TS]

  purposes of this draft [TS]

sure sure any any uh computers leftover [TS]

that are arguably robots will be i guess [TS]

maybe aloud I will say so sure why you [TS]

know you guys are struggling here and [TS]

yet i have i have like nine more robots [TS]

but it's like I've got plenty don't get [TS]

  me wrong [TS]

yeah I got it I got a few more oh yeah [TS]

we just wanted good one yeah alright [TS]

I've got I've got a lot that the ai's [TS]

are well-represented to all right i am [TS]

going to go with so this is a robot that [TS]

is played by an actress who was hired [TS]

because she was a model and yet over the [TS]

course of the rebooted battlestar [TS]

galactica it was revealed the tricia [TS]

helfer actually a pretty darn good [TS]

actress so six the murder its Cylon so [TS]

ash horribly abused Cylon / voice in the [TS]

head of dr. Baltar Cylon is my is my [TS]

second choice of fascinating character [TS]

that goes very rapidly from being the [TS]

kind of roll your eyes sex appeal [TS]

character to being something much more [TS]

complicated and interesting with a [TS]

really great performance by tricia [TS]

  helfer so she's she's a a pretty lady [TS]

but she's also a murderous robot isn't [TS]

she an angel or something maybe [TS]

well spoilers wanted but maybe or maybe [TS]

  not [TS]

or maybe only some of her or maybe the [TS]

last couple episodes didn't actually [TS]

happen but it's possible what the [TS]

existence of the one that's in Baltar's [TS]

head is a question about whether that's [TS]

a voice from from the Cylon God or [TS]

something like that or an angel or [TS]

something but then there are also the [TS]

other ones that are actual silence so so [TS]

that's my pic 6 from battlestar [TS]

galactica the pig sex you have a [TS]

pick-six yes and they have a plan [TS]

apparently anyway that's my pic David [TS]

round three begins with you all right [TS]

I'm gonna go with an alien cyborgs that [TS]

sort of fits with robot monster actually [TS]

they're both of free this is an alien [TS]

cyborg created by a group of aliens [TS]

visiting earth to protect their secret [TS]

alien base in the Pacific Northwest is [TS]

it Bigfoot from the Six Million Dollar [TS]

Man it is Bigfoot from the certainly [TS]

dollar man who appeared in five episodes [TS]

the almost had the fam bots on my list I [TS]

oh I have them too [TS]

I thought I just mount them all into the [TS]

you know the bow bionic leg but he [TS]

appears in the secret of Bigfoot parts [TS]

one and two and he's Andre the Giant [TS]

there and then appears in the return of [TS]

Bigfoot parts one and two and his TED [TS]

Cassidy and then the best title of all [TS]

five episodes Bigfoot five that's it [TS]

there but yes hehe was created to [TS]

cultivate mystery and fear in a remote [TS]

part of the Pacific Northwest according [TS]

  to the Bionic wiki [TS]

so the idea that there's a robotic [TS]

Bigfoot may seem strange to people who [TS]

don't understand this and all I can say [TS]

to endorse David's choice is if you are [TS]

if you are a doctor note nine-year-old [TS]

kid watching the six-million-dollar man [TS]

in the late seventies mhm Bigfoot made [TS]

an indelible impression on you i can't [TS]

  explain it [TS]

Bigfoot was huge i mean huge interest in [TS]

real life the sightings of Bigfoot all [TS]

the time and you know movies about [TS]

Bigfoot and Leonard Nimoy in search of [TS]

always huge and so then you know here's [TS]

this show that we're all watching with [TS]

the Bionic spy and all that and there's [TS]

a robot Bigfoot and of course you don't [TS]

know he's a robot at first and then when [TS]

they fight a lot and then they play in a [TS]

team up a team-up yeah [TS]

oh my god you had sandy Duncan and john [TS]

saxon as aliens which is just odd [TS]

sandy Duncan actually an alien actually [TS]

yeah yeah like it wasn't a big stretch [TS]

ya know those those ups and that that [TS]

blue lit tunnel that with the highest [TS]

maybe the I guess they have a cylinder [TS]

that it that it is keep spinning around [TS]

the the bridge that they walk into get [TS]

into the alien base that made a huge [TS]

impression on me as a child [TS]

absolutely so alright Bionic Bigfoot and [TS]

I had the action figure [TS]

yeah yeah it seems like it wouldn't be a [TS]

thing but I'm telling you it was a thing [TS]

it's just if you get hit you just write [TS]

  it wasn't available [TS]

Monty pick a robot well so far right [TS]

crow and the robot monster I'm worried [TS]

that my team is a little goofy right now [TS]

so I want somebody who can provide [TS]

moments of inspiration and also if [TS]

necessary is covered in a million lasers [TS]

so I'm going to take Vin Diesel's finest [TS]

work in all film The Iron Giant the iron [TS]

giant yeah it was on my list because the [TS]

Iron Giant is great wonderful and again [TS]

he doesn't have to be a killing machine [TS]

this whole point of the movie he can [TS]

just hang out with us and watch moves he [TS]

  is not a gun he's a fun-loving guy [TS]

yes who wants to be Superman and it's [TS]

  not a gun yes [TS]

but if it's called on I believe to save [TS]

humanity he would blow the crap out of [TS]

  whatever was threatening humanity [TS]

yeah like even if you're Superman you [TS]

could destroy things if you wanted to [TS]

  just don't have to [TS]

rather watch a movie hang out with the [TS]

  kid in the junkyard [TS]

it's a metal it is Vin Diesel's greatest [TS]

performance i believe it is of course it [TS]

  is [TS]

he can't make you cry any of his other [TS]

performances know if he can but for [TS]

other reasons I mean the pacifier aside [TS]

all right yeah yeah the iron giant I [TS]

have nothing I I'm a big thumbs up for [TS]

that I love the iron giant great movie [TS]

great character and was on my list so I [TS]

fully endorse your choice and an actual [TS]

world now that's a robot that's right [TS]

  Erica robot time [TS]

alright well I wouldn't say that my team [TS]

is goofy so far but maybe not as [TS]

competent as it could be so i think i [TS]

want to add somebody I'm gonna go and [TS]

real classic here i am going to go with [TS]

and I'm a pronounced this wrong because [TS]

it's a name only read our Daniel hola [TS]

from Isaac as moms robot novels I but he [TS]

had first appeared in the caves of steel [TS]

followed by the naked Sun and the naked [TS]

son I i I've read all of those books [TS]

that the negative zone is one of those [TS]

comfort reading books for me that I just [TS]

go back to again and again and again and [TS]

so so are Daniel R stands for robot of [TS]

course is is disorder feet he feels like [TS]

an old pal to me he was he was [TS]

constructed on earth and 5020 ad he was [TS]

one of the very first sort of robots in [TS]

the isaac asimov universe of robots and [TS]

he was created to be identical to humans [TS]

later on the kind of with me [TS]

differentiated a little better but he [TS]

was able to pretty much blend in and it [TS]

later on they even gave him the ability [TS]

to sort of be able to rebind influence [TS]

mental states and stuff i prefer him [TS]

sort of earlier on when he's kind of [TS]

traveling around doing these mysteries [TS]

stories with Elijah Baley and Elijah [TS]

sort of teaching him that you know right [TS]

and wrong from that there are sort of [TS]

more graves in the world instead of just [TS]

the black-and-whites of what he was [TS]

built to learn but he also has a little [TS]

bit to teach Elijah because you know [TS]

  he's he's a pretty pretty level-headed [TS]

and calm individual and I think that [TS]

would be helpful for for Crichton and [TS]

myself definitely doesn't he show up in [TS]

some of the foundation sequels he does [TS]

yep ties them all together the whole [TS]

  universe that's a great pic I I almost [TS]

he was not my list but i almost put them [TS]

on my list because that i have fond [TS]

memories of our Daniel Boulevard and of [TS]

course the Asimov hopefully many of our [TS]

robots follow as mobs laws of robotics [TS]

yes that was another reason for putting [TS]

him on my list because i'm pretty sure [TS]

Crichton if he does have those three [TS]

host of Robotics maybe isn't holding to [TS]

them is a as well as he should be [TS]

and certainly canine doesn't because [TS]

canine zapping people left and right [TS]

well his you know his primary concern is [TS]

taking care of the larger needs of [TS]

  mankind zeroth law right [TS]

the whole point of the laws of robotics [TS]

is to find elaborate ways around them [TS]

yep yep that's right we got it set we [TS]

got a long as they're not gonna cause [TS]

any trouble oh and then the castro [TS]

robots do well let's do that Steve pick [TS]

  a robot [TS]

oh boy I I feel emboldened by my ability [TS]

to get showed and past the censors oh so [TS]

well then this next one is definitely [TS]

not i would like a little are you sure [TS]

because what i would like to pick is the [TS]

robot the dance move from the mid-1980s [TS]

haha that's a robot our shared culture [TS]

would be infinitely poor without the [TS]

spectacle of white men trying to break [TS]

  dance you got it [TS]

that's eligible for choice really you're [TS]

  giving me the robot [TS]

yes you get the rope I've given you the [TS]

robot right now but you can't see it [TS]

hello I'm good I'm keeping the robot and [TS]

I'm going I'm going back to my corner [TS]

  that does it [TS]

my next pick is going to be the song mr. [TS]

  roboto that [TS]

it could happen it can happen arm i have [TS]

so many choices here i am going to [TS]

choose come with me if you want to live [TS]

i'm going to choose the Terminator the [TS]

good one from the second Terminator not [TS]

the bad one from the first Terminator [TS]

and a wide would they construct a robot [TS]

that speaks in an Austrian accent maybe [TS]

  they were all stream [TS]

yeah but I thought John Connor created [TS]

while he was working with an Austrian [TS]

scientists to suffice it to say speaks [TS]

with an Austrian accent don't ask why [TS]

but I know now why you humans chi arm [TS]

and all of that it'sit's the Terminator [TS]

those are great movies we should [TS]

probably do episodes about the [TS]

Terminator at some point and arnold [TS]

schwarzenegger at his at his peak i [TS]

think especially in Terminator 2 peak [TS]

shorts- so there you go plus he's naked [TS]

in the Terminator because you know that [TS]

well I both of them because time-travel [TS]

requires nudity turns out you can't send [TS]

metal back just people made out of metal [TS]

  wrapped in skin [TS]

apparently that looks like Arnold [TS]

Schwarzenegger come with me if you want [TS]

  to live [TS]

yeah that's right let me put on pads [TS]

first alright the Terminator we have [TS]

time to do one more round [TS]

Oh God one more round but it and then [TS]

we'll have them will get up there you [TS]

bring out your dead but you know I the [TS]

way we're going I think we're only going [TS]

to get one full round in unless be quick [TS]

be quick be quick and we can do an extra [TS]

round beyond that but you gotta be quick [TS]

David go alright one of my favorite [TS]

robots from the early eighties because i [TS]

love ray harryhausen bubo the owl from [TS]

clash of the titan is because i love the [TS]

idea of this little robotic owl in the [TS]

middle of all these Greek myths right [TS]

he's just cute is just a really neat [TS]

design and it really need you know and [TS]

just the whole you know clearly he's [TS]

like the ancient Greek r2d2 so Bubo a [TS]

robot who hasn't been picked as the way [TS]

I was just just shocking it doesn't have [TS]

much conversation frankly we were [TS]

thinking outside the box robots were [TS]

thinking outside the box yeah outside [TS]

  the robotic box [TS]

yeah uh Monty pick a robot up i'm going [TS]

to pick Lance Henriksen as bishop in [TS]

  aliens [TS]

yeah cross that one haha yeah could pick [TS]

  because he's super-awesome he's in one [TS]

of my favorite movies and he's a good [TS]

with this knife game that's my favorite [TS]

line from that film by the way I had [TS]

such a crush on Landon Dixon oh my [TS]

  goodness he's great [TS]

alright Bishop from aliens could pick [TS]

  very good very good [TS]

I had that one on my list of [TS]

consideration to Erica pick a robot my [TS]

next one I'm going animated well kind of [TS]

animated cartoon basically huh i'm going [TS]

with pipe size the anthro pc from the [TS]

  webcomic questionable content [TS]

he's cute as a button yeah Martin is the [TS]

main character and he has this little [TS]

Panthro pc which is kind of a live sort [TS]

of ipod type thing and he's all mouth [TS]

he's filthy minded but he's so lovable [TS]

think he's got a heart of gold [TS]

he's usually the comic relief and he has [TS]

a really weird fascination with cake [TS]

batter all right I've never heard a [TS]

  pint-sized but I approve [TS]

that's a robot Steve yes pick me a robot [TS]

alright i feel like i might have got a [TS]

bridge too far with that last pic so i'm [TS]

going to pick an actual robot this time [TS]

I i can hear in my head millions of [TS]

voices crying out in agony that we have [TS]

not yet take something from Star walkers [TS]

and its really kind of a surprise so [TS]

well you know John siracusa said he [TS]

would be here and then he didn't show up [TS]

so really its own zone that is it really [TS]

useful in fact I should probably pull [TS]

back and not do Star Wars link but [TS]

instead i am going to select HK 47 [TS]

yes nice who is a who is from the game [TS]

star wars knights of the old republic a [TS]

superb RPG and highly recommended for [TS]

anybody who hasn't played in HK 47 is an [TS]

assassin droid in his own words it is my [TS]

primary function to burn holes through [TS]

meatbags that you wish remove [TS]

from the galaxy think he's you find him [TS]

i think in a in the back of a robot shop [TS]

and I think Tatooine strangely enough [TS]

and he walks around all the great droids [TS]

  come from [TS]

he's he's he he feels differently about [TS]

you depending on whether you choose the [TS]

dark side of the light side path and [TS]

since i always choose the light side [TS]

path i spent most of the game with him [TS]

berating me for not allowing him to kill [TS]

random passers-by but he spends a lot of [TS]

time calling you a sloshing liquid meat [TS]

bag em regaling you with tales of how [TS]

his previous masters died horribly [TS]

usually because of him he has great [TS]

lines and he's 4 for all of his [TS]

viciousness seizes the comic relief of [TS]

that game and he's really really really [TS]

funny so highly recommend knights of the [TS]

old republic HK 47 is my pic yeah great [TS]

pic I you guys did that so well that we [TS]

will be able to do another round my pic [TS]

to close out this round [TS]

he spends most of the movie standing [TS]

like a statue but he's waiting for the [TS]

order Klaatu Barada nikto i'm going to [TS]

  court [TS]

nice i'll cross that off too yep from [TS]

The Day the Earth Stood Still court [TS]

follows orders can destroy the earth and [TS]

and response to visual or to auditory [TS]

commands pretty pretty well actually it [TS]

looks really intimidating when he's just [TS]

standing there and fires a beam out of [TS]

his visor I thing that's scary [TS]

so Kourt from The Day the Earth Stood [TS]

Still classic fifties movie robot David [TS]

you get to pick another robot well i'm [TS]

tempted to pick the robots from riptide [TS]

because i think phil Michaels me haha oh [TS]

yeah but that's I will go with people [TS]

from space Academy which was on in 1978 [TS]

1970-71 1977 on CBS saturday mornings [TS]

and he might have been the first robot [TS]

who I knew by name this little boxy [TS]

thing you know radio control robot and [TS]

you know it wasn't a bad little show for [TS]

  a saturday [TS]

running shows it had Jonathan Harris [TS]

actually getting to act instead of just [TS]

running around going oh up in you know [TS]

that butter is made by filmation so is [TS]

made really really cheaply and they [TS]

turned it into Jason of star command [TS]

after that and it just wasn't the same [TS]

without James doing with James will for [TS]

the first year yell so they don't know [TS]

with people because because he was he [TS]

was the the first row but I really knew [TS]

even he came out even before Star Wars I [TS]

think know people had the look of a [TS]

robot that you could actually buy on in [TS]

the Sears catalog and then yeah we do [TS]

probably could've at that point but the [TS]

name of something that you might get out [TS]

of the Adam and Eve catalog yes thanks [TS]

  Monty pick a robot [TS]

uh well because Robbie the robot and [TS]

gore have got me thinking about classic [TS]

style robots I'm gonna pick Maria the [TS]

robot from metropolis gangrene excellent [TS]

which by the way a couple years ago they [TS]

found another forty percent of that [TS]

movie so if you only Washington your [TS]

youth watch it again it makes more sense [TS]

  now [TS]

yeah Ren pic to the extended metropolis [TS]

in our in our film festival a couple [TS]

years back because yeah they've it's [TS]

more complete now but it's not like one [TS]

of those directors cut kind of things [TS]

it's like they lost large parts of the [TS]

movie app and they're back think Maria's [TS]

a a super iconic look for a robot [TS]

  yeah great pick [TS]

Thank You excellent pic Erica pick a [TS]

  robot [TS]

ok I am going to go with let's see a [TS]

latte eyes on here and cross off huh i'm [TS]

going to go with Vincent from disney's [TS]

  the black hole [TS]

oh yeah nice i had Maximilian on my list [TS]

uh yeah yes I was always a big fan I [TS]

mean I just like riding mcdonalds voice [TS]

that just makes me happy and Vincent was [TS]

just he tried so hard and he was just [TS]

gosh darn adorable i just thought he was [TS]

wonderful so I I would be happy to hang [TS]

out with Vincent a good shooter 2m [TS]

agreed eyes and an old prospector voice [TS]

now that's old Bob that's old buzz Bob [TS]

oh that's above your right on that was [TS]

slim picking same model that's right the [TS]

old so Vincent same model but the older [TS]

older robots i'm not really sure how [TS]

  that works [TS]

yep RR prospectors I don't understand [TS]

that was no you're right you're right [TS]

there's two different models Vincent was [TS]

the Spry younger em r2 d2 like robot and [TS]

then there was a nice shootin throwback [TS]

to the old robot yeah he carried that [TS]

film as far as I'm concerned Vincent and [TS]

I was all about him [TS]

well Ernie Borgnine I mean come on very [TS]

good all the black hole that is not [TS]

really a good news you can get it all [TS]

it's it's good it's got it has stuck in [TS]

our minds come at it look at Dean Jones [TS]

right Dean Jones Yvette Mimieux [TS]

maximilian schell first disney movie [TS]

where somebody died i believe that's it [TS]

was after Bambi live-action a [TS]

live-action dies brutally to would like [TS]

a spinning rotor blade to the gut and [TS]

the end the end you like wha huh yeah [TS]

Steve pick a robot I around the time [TS]

that people were excited about the [TS]

droids in Star Wars there was yet [TS]

another robot probably the second set of [TS]

robots the second robot that I recall [TS]

from hollywood film and it made a [TS]

lasting impression on me i refer to the [TS]

silver sphere from phantasm a robot [TS]

whose sole purpose is to fly through the [TS]

mortuary stick to your head drill into [TS]

your brain and shoot all the blood out [TS]

of your body onto the floor behind you [TS]

wow that's a terrible robot nice pass [TS]

that's what it does have fun with that [TS]

  guy on your team [TS]

it does what it does well and still [TS]

going to the mortuary you should be five [TS]

but what it does is is is were you [TS]

extremely well because yeah you know [TS]

what that silver spear coming after you [TS]

it's creepy when it's flying around the [TS]

mortuary becomes far more creepy when [TS]

the caretaker gets dispatched and falls [TS]

to the floor suddenly realize the stakes [TS]

are much higher than you expected [TS]

you guys are doing such an awesome job [TS]

that we're going to go ahead around and [TS]

we can fly so be you [TS]

we obviously be long-winded people [TS]

didn't come on this episode so we're [TS]

gonna be able to get more robots and i [TS]

will i'll close out this round with my [TS]

pic I've seen some things you people [TS]

  wouldn't believe [TS]

oh yeah attack ships on fire off the [TS]

shoulder of Orion sea beans glittering [TS]

in the dark near the Tannhauser gate all [TS]

those moments will be lost in time like [TS]

tears in the rain time to death record [TS]

  our is [TS]

  our is [TS]

Roy batty from Blade Runner I don't love [TS]

blade runner but I love Roy batty and i [TS]

  love that monologue [TS]

so Roy batty part of which was was at [TS]

  lived by him [TS]

rutger hauer what you're gonna do I'm [TS]

pretty pro record however just in [TS]

general even when he's a whole bowl with [TS]

  a shotgun [TS]

huh the hitter David pick a robot [TS]

well now i'm not sure it's mine counts [TS]

because he might be a robot they might [TS]

not but I'm gonna go with Rick Deckard [TS]

also from blade because i like the idea [TS]

that he is one spoilers David spoilers [TS]

  guys I was torn [TS]

I yeah well there's this unicorn and [TS]

well yet I was torn between very badly [TS]

and Rick Deckard and so when you went [TS]

with Roy and all right i'll go with Rick [TS]

so clearly an endorsement of the [TS]

decorative replicates well at least at [TS]

least I like the possibility i mean III [TS]

you know there's so many different [TS]

versions of it that are out there my god [TS]

but if he is 1 i'll pick them all right [TS]

let's get Monte a robot for you sir i'm [TS]

going to take a girl from invader zim [TS]

possibly the most quotable robot i have [TS]

  ever seen [TS]

he's a small completely incompetent and [TS]

sometimes disguised as a dog he likes [TS]

taquitos appears to be completely insane [TS]

even for the standards of the show [TS]

invader zim yeah he's good fun girl all [TS]

right girl alright enough this show [TS]

nice Erica a robot for you [TS]

alright well I feel like I should book [TS]

end with a little more doctor who [TS]

it just feels right at this point [TS]

alright so i am going to go with [TS]

chameleon chameleon was a short-lived [TS]

companion dr. vme robot companion who [TS]

  didn't work [TS]

yeah it's actually a very sad story they [TS]

had they had commissioned this awesome [TS]

robot that moved in and was programmable [TS]

and stuff and then the fellow who did [TS]

the programming of the only one that [TS]

really knew how to make it work died and [TS]

i think a car accident so they have this [TS]

robot and they had one of the two guys [TS]

who designed it but not the one who knew [TS]

  how to [TS]

completely make it work right and they [TS]

kind of limp through the first episode [TS]

and the idea was that this robot [TS]

chameleon could mimic anything so it [TS]

could turn into other people for some [TS]

strange reason the first episode he was [TS]

in he was the master had him imitating [TS]

King John so that he could destroy the [TS]

Magna Carta I it don't ask why it was [TS]

good or evil reasons the Magna Carta [TS]

  must be destroyed [TS]

this was this is his plan anyway so then [TS]

after that they the doctor and his [TS]

companions liberate canine from the [TS]

clutches of the master and chameleon [TS]

chameleon night online still thinking [TS]

about canine great community better and [TS]

bring them onto the TARDIS and then he [TS]

disappears for several episodes and I i [TS]

think it's a fun game to actually just [TS]

watching those stories and look in the [TS]

TARDIS and be like what random object is [TS]

is contractually chameleon in disguise [TS]

and then they decided finally to write [TS]

him out so he comes back for one more [TS]

story at the end and the master takes [TS]

him over again it's kind of a sad end [TS]

and I feel like he got it just really [TS]

short end of the stick so I think he [TS]

should come and hang out on my team of [TS]

robots because we would have a good time [TS]

  if you worked [TS]

that's the truth that's the trick with [TS]

community and if he if he works sad [TS]

Steve you get a robot one more robot for [TS]

you one more robot for me you get a [TS]

robot you get a robot to your seats yet [TS]

robots you're sitting on a robot your [TS]

seat is a robot pic OH [TS]

this may require ruling from the judges [TS]

not this is a common household robot it [TS]

is not in fact the roomba although i am [TS]

taking attempted to take the room [TS]

because i cannot get enough of videos of [TS]

cats right around the corner [TS]

I know what I would like to pick is the [TS]

is rob the robotic operating buddy huh [TS]

who came with the original deluxe set of [TS]

the nintendo entertainment system for [TS]

that guy or go ahead [TS]

alright he was a little robot pal that [TS]

sat by you while you played gyro might [TS]

which came with the original deluxe set [TS]

I previous to them packing super mario [TS]

brothers in the package you got duck [TS]

hunt and gyro might along with the the [TS]

Nintendo zapper and the robotic [TS]

operating buddy and what Rob would do is [TS]

he'd sit there and watch the game and in [TS]

response to your commands he would pick [TS]

  up a little [TS]

gyroscope dropping into a little [TS]

rotating motor so it would spin and then [TS]

he would set it on one of two buttons to [TS]

hold the gates that you had to get [TS]

passed up or down and if the desire [TS]

gyroscope stop spinning before you got a [TS]

chance to pick it up well too bad you [TS]

had to reach over there and grab [TS]

yourself he was not that useful a robot [TS]

to be honest he was a pretty cool [TS]

gimmick and I really enjoyed a gyro [TS]

might even though i think that's a very [TS]

minority opinion he was not meant to be [TS]

helpful he was meant to be a buddy [TS]

yes he and he was he was my buddy for [TS]

that couple of months that i played [TS]

jireh mind before better games came out [TS]

and then they released stack up which [TS]

was another which was another Rob based [TS]

game and then he was never heard or seen [TS]

  from again until though [TS]

yes why I actually found my old Rob is [TS]

we were cleaning out my parents house [TS]

about three years ago but alas the gear [TS]

that caused his body to go up and down [TS]

on the central axis had stripped off for [TS]

years of just sitting in place [TS]

ah shame so rob was was no more although [TS]

the little motor that spun the gyroscope [TS]

still work so we have hours of fun with [TS]

that Rob is your buddy [TS]

now this is so so with this last pic [TS]

this is normally where I would pick a [TS]

micro not and in fact i have a micro my [TS]

list but i'm going to save him for the [TS]

eighth for the fairlead should not be [TS]

selectable for when we bring for when we [TS]

bring out our are what would make a list [TS]

I'm going to pick from Marvel Comics I'm [TS]

gonna pick machine man he was created by [TS]

Jack Kirby he first appeared in the [TS]

totally insane 2001 a Space Odyssey [TS]

common by Jack Kirby spun off into his [TS]

own series he was brought back several [TS]

times there's a great Barry [TS]

  windsor-smith miniseries from the [TS]

eighties set in the future with machine [TS]

man in it he ended up Warren Ellis had [TS]

him in next wave agents of hate [TS]

  he's in marvel zombies [TS]

one of those because they send the [TS]

robots to kill the zombies because the [TS]

robots can't get bitten in turn into [TS]

zombies which is kind of brilliant his [TS]

arms like telescope out really far and [TS]

he's really kind of messed up [TS]

emotionally because he knows that he's a [TS]

robot and yet he has human emotions and [TS]

people don't treat him like a a person [TS]

because he's a robot and he's very upset [TS]

about that so I'm gonna pick machine man [TS]

with the with the last pic in our draft [TS]

that's it that's the last pic that's it [TS]

draft is over folks dresses over the [TS]

city but now we will do what we do which [TS]

is not part of the draft it's totally [TS]

separate my draft entirely totally [TS]

different which is when i asked each of [TS]

you to list what you didn't get to pick [TS]

that you would have liked to have pic [TS]

David what do you have left over [TS]

well Questor from the Questor tapes [TS]

failed Gene Roddenberry pilot from the [TS]

early seventies server the original data [TS]

really a proto data yeah you know I had [TS]

I had micronauts on here i had these [TS]

cyber knots from the the Avengers TV [TS]

series that the british one not the [TS]

Marvel one the the cyber men who were a [TS]

lot like the cyber knots i don't know [TS]

which ones came first obviously had Tom [TS]

servo and iron giant all on here and I'm [TS]

surprised being such a Buffy fan you [TS]

didn't pick the buffybot oh interesting [TS]

choice not John written on john ritter [TS]

as the head to the robot if if if it's [TS]

my team and I'm gonna hangout fruit if [TS]

I'm gonna hangout for a long time I'm [TS]

gonna hang out with the buffybot I like [TS]

generator but coffee Bob is good about [TS]

is good all right Monty what what were [TS]

your spare robots my spare robots I [TS]

couldn't decide on a robot from futurama [TS]

was either going to be hedonism bot or [TS]

  the robot devil [TS]

mmm i was also strongly considering [TS]

awesomo the cardboard box that Hartman [TS]

with wearing when he was pretending to [TS]

be a robot also helper from venture [TS]

brothers the saloon doors from the [TS]

  thrilling adventure hour [TS]

  uh-huh and Rock'em Sock'em robots now [TS]

those are all good Erica what are your [TS]

spare robots my spare bots from Doctor [TS]

Who I had the rest on warrior robot from [TS]

the five doctors no more villains know I [TS]

probably should have picked the most [TS]

balanced because man i love those disco [TS]

bots they're awesome and then also [TS]

quirks from the dominators because [TS]

they're just kind of cute and let's see [TS]

i also what I can't believe nobody [TS]

picked r2d2 but I had it on my list just [TS]

didn't get done it for so obvious it is [TS]

too obvious johnny-five from short [TS]

circuit because Johnny Johnny five is [TS]

alive Johnny Five alive I can't believe [TS]

that Johnny 5s unpicked there's a reason [TS]

  for that [TS]

yeah yeah no I love him he probably [TS]

  would've been next [TS]

who's Johnny she said and smiled in a [TS]

  special way [TS]

oh man and then there's one good i [TS]

definitely would not have it wasn't on [TS]

my list but when i started thinking of [TS]

it as a team definitely wouldn't have [TS]

picked because Vicki from small wonder [TS]

bugged the crap out of me i had her as [TS]

my pic in anger in case somebody and yes [TS]

yes she and Crichton could race some [TS]

  cleaning your place up [TS]

they both love doing laundry our friend [TS]

Moises s2 yawn in a chat room had [TS]

Vicky's among his list of pics along [TS]

with our 5d for the vision bender which [TS]

nobody had Ultron good evil robot and [TS]

BMO beemo from Adventure Time BMO we did [TS]

have some cute robots I thought that was [TS]

nice to get some cute robots yes we have [TS]

my last one was going to be and I don't [TS]

I can't remember i think he was an AI [TS]

but i think he got a body at the end of [TS]

the game so i was going to say he [TS]

counted was Arthur the sidekick from the [TS]

journeyman project video game series [TS]

oh man the journeyman project was great [TS]

i love the journeyman project was [TS]

  beautiful [TS]

it's kinda hard to play but you look [TS]

great Steve yeah i had had glass has [TS]

  mentioned earlier [TS]

yes I was picked in the computer draft [TS]

thanks thanks a lot computer draft I i [TS]

had from a quick i had like bot and or [TS]

Vlad both both superb robots mainly i [TS]

wanted to i bought so i could discuss [TS]

what the saddest thing is nobody knows [TS]

where i'm coming from you you know what [TS]

  the saddest things [TS]

I had two XL who who taught me the [TS]

metric system as a child [TS]

thanks to a well-meaning family member [TS]

who thought every kid's dream is to have [TS]

the learn the metric system program for [TS]

2xl can I borrow that [TS]

2xl bender of course and as I mentioned [TS]

Vicki my like my pic in case the judges [TS]

irritated me know and my pics were [TS]

bender but my future i'm a backup with [TS]

calculus on my love Calculon with a name [TS]

the Micronauts i have a biotron up on a [TS]

shelf in my in my house just a little [TS]

professor calculator qualify as a robot [TS]

I mean everything could be a robot when [TS]

you think of it that way Steve are there [TS]

was one in literally every home when I [TS]

was growing up it's true I i had rock [TS]

who was who was played by Ted Cassidy [TS]

from what what uh are little girls made [TS]

of great original series episode that he [TS]

was really creepy the oldest android he [TS]

spoke of the old ones who came thousands [TS]

  of years ago [TS]

i Iike that was such a great character [TS]

and he tried to kill everybody and then [TS]

he dies and i have robot from the movie [TS]

robot and frank with frank langella [TS]

robot is a friendly robot that is [TS]

programmed to help old people who have [TS]

bad memories and robot is convinced by [TS]

Frank to go on a heist which robot kind [TS]

of goes along is is convinced he should [TS]

go along with the mental health of his [TS]

  patient it's a sweet movie and it's a [TS]

cute robot so I had him but I didn't [TS]

  think I'm sorry room [TS]

ok i also had a Darrell I forgot to wow [TS]

  that [TS]

yep data analyzing robot youth life-form [TS]

awesome i briefly considered Muffet you [TS]

  know the robot dog [TS]

from the first battle star Galactica [TS]

might as well just go canine or or [TS]

chimpanzee in the canine costume when [TS]

you take rex from airplane to while [TS]

everybody leaves with the robots you can [TS]

do what you want with your robots I'm [TS]

gonna do the robot with my robot [TS]

except for except for Rob who does not [TS]

have articulated arms that function in [TS]

the robot necessary way you'll be doing [TS]

the robot in front of Rob saying look at [TS]

me I'm a robot and Rob will not be able [TS]

to do anything that he could just move [TS]

his torso up and down and spins gyros [TS]

you also have the fantasms fear how's [TS]

that going to dance I can make it a [TS]

little pitchforks come in and out and [TS]

you know it will work site now [TS]

all right i mean nice alright it will be [TS]

the disco ball and so that brings us to [TS]
