175: War on Christmas

00:00:00   the incomparable number 175 christmas [TS]

00:00:11   welcome back to be uncomfortable [TS]

00:00:13   podcasts are special flash cast edition [TS]

00:00:15   meaning it's unedited unexpurgated we [TS]

00:00:18   say stupid things and then you hear them [TS]

00:00:20   we talk over each other and you hear [TS]

00:00:22   that because it is Christmas and we're [TS]

00:00:24   not giving doing the editing on [TS]

00:00:26   Christmas in the incomparable podcast [TS]

00:00:28   and contract and as we've done for the [TS]

00:00:30   last several years were here very [TS]

00:00:32   quickly talk about the Christmas episode [TS]

00:00:35   of Doctor Who on the day that it air [TS]

00:00:38   joining me I'm Jason smell your host as [TS]

00:00:40   always i have four lovely guests David [TS]

00:00:44   laura is here by David there Dan Morin [TS]

00:00:48   is here I dan how many years will be [TS]

00:00:51   doing this now too many years [TS]

00:00:52   sooo many years what it's like it's like [TS]

00:00:55   eight or nine years that doctor who's [TS]

00:00:57   been doing it which it boggles my mind [TS]

00:00:59   but wow really wasn't that long [TS]

00:01:01   it's so it's been I don't think we I [TS]

00:01:03   don't think we did a flash cast of of T [TS]

00:01:06   david tennant's last episode I do [TS]

00:01:07   believe we've done one for all of the [TS]

00:01:09   mat smith specials so it's been awhile [TS]

00:01:12   it's that it's already called well I [TS]

00:01:13   heard you there hello yes I cannot [TS]

00:01:15   believe that it's been three years of [TS]

00:01:17   matt smith and and matt smith is gone is [TS]

00:01:19   gone he's gone all right Pete and [TS]

00:01:22   regenerated peace and that never happens [TS]

00:01:25   and Scott McNulty is here hi Scott [TS]

00:01:28   oh I thought this was the who cast about [TS]

00:01:30   the flash so I'm woefully about the flag [TS]

00:01:33   is this cindy lou who casts the button [TS]

00:01:37   important here so who cast unfortunately [TS]

00:01:40   that's flash gordon dr. seuss involved [TS]

00:01:42   somehow about Flash Gordon yeah i mean [TS]

00:01:44   the veronica was George about the flash [TS]

00:01:46   earlier this makes perfect sense that it [TS]

00:01:49   all comes together to bring it [TS]

00:01:51   yeah that's what you do Scott that's why [TS]

00:01:52   you're here try so well yeah so doctor [TS]

00:01:55   who happened uh that this was the time [TS]

00:01:58   of the doctor to go with the name of the [TS]

00:02:01   doctor in the day of the doctor in this [TS]

00:02:02   little trip th of moffitt eNOS as saying [TS]

00:02:09   goodbye to matt smith i watch the BBC [TS]

00:02:12   america version which is interesting [TS]

00:02:14   because the last commercial break is at [TS]

00:02:16   the worst possible moment [TS]

00:02:18   that's always good where you have the [TS]

00:02:21   climax and the shocking sudden [TS]

00:02:24   resolution [TS]

00:02:24   version of it that is interesting [TS]

00:02:26   intercut with a bunch of commercials [TS]

00:02:28   well gotta pay the bills wish they had [TS]

00:02:30   cut it somewhere sooner than that so so [TS]

00:02:34   Matt Smith is gone this is very strange [TS]

00:02:36   I thought episode in terms that it is [TS]

00:02:38   unlike almost every Christmas episode [TS]

00:02:41   doctor who is done since Steven Moffat [TS]

00:02:44   took over [TS]

00:02:45   unlike any I think it Christmas [TS]

00:02:47   Christmas seem to Christmas was in it [TS]

00:02:51   because he he goes to a town called [TS]

00:02:53   Christmas that is the Christmas macias [TS]

00:02:55   place in the universe and and we have [TS]

00:02:59   Clara making Christmas dinner for her [TS]

00:03:02   family who have almost never seen that [TS]

00:03:05   there they are [TS]

00:03:06   but it didn't seem very Christmas we see [TS]

00:03:08   to me it's it felt a you know just to [TS]

00:03:10   start out it feels a little perfunctory [TS]

00:03:12   to me like you know like some of the [TS]

00:03:13   russell davis air especially smaller was [TS]

00:03:16   like what's on Christmas i need to [TS]

00:03:17   include a Christmas element but it's or [TS]

00:03:20   didn't seem to be the point and in fact [TS]

00:03:21   I thought that the the the fact that [TS]

00:03:24   spoiler horn can I have a spoiler [TS]

00:03:29   warning flash guess i don't know i hope [TS]

00:03:31   it happened that the fatback should [TS]

00:03:33   really lost you should really watch the [TS]

00:03:35   episode the fact that that that [TS]

00:03:38   Christmas Town is on trenzalore is a [TS]

00:03:40   very strange connection of like oh it's [TS]

00:03:42   this cute down a Christmas were the [TS]

00:03:44   greatest battle in the universe and [TS]

00:03:45   hundreds and thousands of people are [TS]

00:03:47   going to be dead was the same place that [TS]

00:03:49   seems very strange so any thoughts about [TS]

00:03:51   just have the the Christmas e ness of [TS]

00:03:53   this episode you know I thought it was [TS]

00:03:56   strange but I actually love it i think [TS]

00:03:59   it i have been kind of a sap for the [TS]

00:04:02   russell t davies Christmas episodes [TS]

00:04:04   where I kind of like the interest first [TS]

00:04:06   and the holiness mixed with the [TS]

00:04:09   outrageousness of oh it's Christmas or [TS]

00:04:12   maybe not quite christmas is just a town [TS]

00:04:14   called Christmas I I kind of like that [TS]

00:04:17   that's acknowledged so blatantly [TS]

00:04:18   actually where it's no it's July it just [TS]

00:04:21   happens to be a town called Christmas so [TS]

00:04:24   a also that we after several years of [TS]

00:04:27   very very Christmasy episodes from [TS]

00:04:29   Steven Moffat because we had you know [TS]

00:04:31   what the christmas carol and the snowmen [TS]

00:04:34   and was the other one was there another [TS]

00:04:37   doctor the widow and a doctor with me we [TS]

00:04:39   had a lot of really Christmassy episodes [TS]

00:04:41   i feel like and so we sort of have you [TS]

00:04:45   know I think he's got that out of his [TS]

00:04:46   system and so we got something that was [TS]

00:04:48   a little more doctor who even Christmas [TS]

00:04:50   I guess [TS]

00:04:53   david scott thought I was entertaining a [TS]

00:04:57   politic silence haha i want all the way [TS]

00:05:02   with us about all things christmas [TS]

00:05:03   christmas on tonight [TS]

00:05:04   I didn't mind that the 10 was called [TS]

00:05:07   Christmas i didn't see a point to it but [TS]

00:05:09   that was about the only thing i liked [TS]

00:05:12   the show [TS]

00:05:13   oh wow you know Todd done but some [TS]

00:05:17   foreshadows right let's get changed [TS]

00:05:19   let's let's get let's get out there you [TS]

00:05:23   know this was a yeah yeah David i would [TS]

00:05:27   like you to talk a little bit about your [TS]

00:05:29   feelings i think that's as it as a host [TS]

00:05:31   i'm going to ask i'm going to probe a [TS]

00:05:33   little bit back for more about your [TS]

00:05:35   negative feelings about this because you [TS]

00:05:37   know as everybody knows out there any [TS]

00:05:38   cover we don't always just rained down [TS]

00:05:41   love on individual episodes of Doctor [TS]

00:05:43   Who I love Doctor Who very much but I [TS]

00:05:45   know some episodes are not so good so [TS]

00:05:47   I'm fascinated to hear what David has to [TS]

00:05:48   say well you know I was i I rewatched [TS]

00:05:52   the name of the doctor and the day of [TS]

00:05:54   the doctor leading up to it just to you [TS]

00:05:56   know get it all fresh in my head and the [TS]

00:05:59   more I thought about it today because i [TS]

00:06:01   watch the stream from the BBC so I I've [TS]

00:06:04   had like nine ten hours to fulminate [TS]

00:06:08   you're in England [TS]

00:06:11   yes yes I am me and deanna England we [TS]

00:06:18   call the dog Indiana and it seems i mean [TS]

00:06:23   even though all three episodes are [TS]

00:06:25   written by steven moffat they all play [TS]

00:06:28   as if they were written by complete [TS]

00:06:30   strangers all had a bunch of you were [TS]

00:06:32   you know that the British trenzalore [TS]

00:06:34   Gallifrey graves regeneration you know [TS]

00:06:39   it was just T words there was disliked [TS]

00:06:41   know through line to any of them there's [TS]

00:06:44   no connection and translator is just [TS]

00:06:46   sort of random here and there and [TS]

00:06:48   Gallifrey is randomly here in there and [TS]

00:06:50   you know as much as I loved the day of [TS]

00:06:53   the doctor and I did that is easily one [TS]

00:06:56   of my favorite episodes of the whole new [TS]

00:06:58   series old series any of it [TS]

00:07:00   this is the complete opposite for me I [TS]

00:07:05   just all the goodwill [TS]

00:07:07   all everything that made up for [TS]

00:07:08   everything that I was dissatisfied with [TS]

00:07:11   Moffat for a while [TS]

00:07:12   it's all in this episode it's like oh my [TS]

00:07:15   god what did you do [TS]

00:07:17   can we at least agree that the time of [TS]

00:07:19   the doctor greater than the name of the [TS]

00:07:22   doctor because I thought that one was [TS]

00:07:25   among the nadir before the series and I [TS]

00:07:28   everything in this that harken back to [TS]

00:07:30   that I was like oh yeah that episode [TS]

00:07:32   yeah where they brought up a bunch of [TS]

00:07:34   stuff and now they've kind of right [TS]

00:07:36   Conda bunch of stuff that happened there [TS]

00:07:37   with ya need to try and make a little [TS]

00:07:40   bit more sense you know name of the [TS]

00:07:42   doctor is just incomprehensible but then [TS]

00:07:45   things in this I mean we've gone from [TS]

00:07:48   impossible Clara saving all the doctors [TS]

00:07:51   too clever Clara too clueless idiot [TS]

00:07:55   Clara in this one you know she just he [TS]

00:07:58   keeps tricking her in sending her back [TS]

00:08:00   she's got a turkey to cook ok you know [TS]

00:08:03   you don't know if I'd call her idiots [TS]

00:08:06   clue no Clara she's not by a long shot [TS]

00:08:08   she's serving a sound or narrowing oh [TS]

00:08:10   right she is and he's there for support [TS]

00:08:12   she's not super Clara right to say it [TS]

00:08:14   but she's not supposed to be super Clara [TS]

00:08:16   anymore tonight [TS]

00:08:17   also the report the report in the last [TS]

00:08:20   couple episodes since the name of the [TS]

00:08:23   doctor has been clearly different [TS]

00:08:24   between them like since we went into the [TS]

00:08:27   whole Clara's the impossible girl we've [TS]

00:08:29   taken her out of the time vortex and [TS]

00:08:31   just you know a little more stable and a [TS]

00:08:34   little more normal i like this Clara I [TS]

00:08:36   think she's not necessarily as [TS]

00:08:38   fantastical or as manic pixie is some [TS]

00:08:41   people may be liked about her original [TS]

00:08:43   characters and some people disliked but [TS]

00:08:45   i like the way that they are shaping her [TS]

00:08:47   like how they're shaping her i like when [TS]

00:08:51   she decides to ask for help versus when [TS]

00:08:53   she decides to go off on her own [TS]

00:08:55   I think the night it's a nice touch of [TS]

00:08:57   her basically clinging onto the TARDIS [TS]

00:08:59   for 300 years while it tries to make its [TS]

00:09:02   way back to the doctor and the fact that [TS]

00:09:04   she looks you know very upset but at the [TS]

00:09:07   same time you know what you're worth it [TS]

00:09:09   it's I'm i signed up for for a task and [TS]

00:09:12   I'm obligated to see it through [TS]

00:09:15   did anybody else think she's gonna be [TS]

00:09:16   really old when they would you give [TS]

00:09:19   actually there was something about the [TS]

00:09:20   whiting that almost from when [TS]

00:09:21   he kept shooting her from behind while [TS]

00:09:22   she's holding onto the TARDIS [TS]

00:09:24   kinektron maker show that she was cold [TS]

00:09:26   like she was like programs were kind of [TS]

00:09:28   photos to meet her here to me your hair [TS]

00:09:30   look gray and maybe it was just the [TS]

00:09:32   coloring of what i was looking out but [TS]

00:09:33   it was the Frog yeah but still it was it [TS]

00:09:36   was I was like oh my god what if she [TS]

00:09:37   turns around and she's president she's [TS]

00:09:39   like 80 now said you know I mean I think [TS]

00:09:41   that would be creepy twists I mean [TS]

00:09:45   lockers been on there for 300 years and [TS]

00:09:47   Clara is clearly a normal human girl [TS]

00:09:49   possible [TS]

00:09:51   not any more experienced a normal girl [TS]

00:09:53   impossible possible [TS]

00:09:54   she's at that point is that blood [TS]

00:09:56   improbable girl employment no applause [TS]

00:10:00   look at that point the thought I was [TS]

00:10:01   just shaking my head so I mean I didn't [TS]

00:10:03   I didn't buy anything that led up to [TS]

00:10:05   that point so I wasn't buying the point [TS]

00:10:07   really [TS]

00:10:07   no that's not that had some major [TS]

00:10:10   problems with the whole oh we're so the [TS]

00:10:13   spoiler horn with Scott off so you know [TS]

00:10:15   the whole point of the Gallifrey is [TS]

00:10:17   sending a signal through the crack in [TS]

00:10:19   the universe that no one can decipher [TS]

00:10:22   but you would think that they would want [TS]

00:10:24   the one person they're sending the [TS]

00:10:26   signal to to be able to decipher it but [TS]

00:10:28   he can't decipher it a bunch of Superman [TS]

00:10:31   she began head can so we can pause for a [TS]

00:10:34   second because the Cyberman head is very [TS]

00:10:36   very strange and I'm not really sure [TS]

00:10:38   where that came from and I was really [TS]

00:10:39   like to know i will not have any that [TS]

00:10:41   anything Bad's said about handle sandals [TS]

00:10:43   adorable i just don't know I was just um [TS]

00:10:46   I'm just like to be there with ya in [TS]

00:10:48   terms of the signal that made complete [TS]

00:10:51   sense to me because the idea being that [TS]

00:10:52   Gallifrey has been erased from this [TS]

00:10:54   world and is long dead and everyone has [TS]

00:10:56   basically forgotten Gallifreyan [TS]

00:10:59   including the doctor himself [TS]

00:11:01   I mean that seems entirely logical to me [TS]

00:11:03   and also no one's really looking forward [TS]

00:11:06   all they know is that whatever this [TS]

00:11:08   transmission is its filling them with [TS]

00:11:10   dread which I mean if you heard a [TS]

00:11:13   language that you were expecting to be [TS]

00:11:15   long dead and maybe it was coded into [TS]

00:11:17   you bye-bye all of your evil ancestors [TS]

00:11:20   to be like hey if you ever hear this [TS]

00:11:22   language again maybe run in terror [TS]

00:11:25   because it might signal the end universe [TS]

00:11:27   don't evil ancestors those so the Time [TS]

00:11:30   Lords are bastards generally so is it [TS]

00:11:32   really bad for [TS]

00:11:33   the rest of the the races in the [TS]

00:11:35   University not want the Time Lords to [TS]

00:11:37   come back know what I mean that's what [TS]

00:11:39   makes it kind of interesting to me is [TS]

00:11:40   the fact that it's left and he's like [TS]

00:11:42   it's left in that stalemate situation [TS]

00:11:43   right where it's he's not bringing the [TS]

00:11:46   back and he's also not you know not [TS]

00:11:49   bringing you know he's guy he's the [TS]

00:11:51   doctors kinda like the one guy standing [TS]

00:11:52   in the middle there and I think he [TS]

00:11:54   doesn't wanna bring the back in part [TS]

00:11:55   because they'll get killed but in part [TS]

00:11:56   because they're also damn jerks and [TS]

00:11:58   we'll start the entire time we're all [TS]

00:12:00   over again and i think the part that's [TS]

00:12:03   what the prior episode to this the 50th [TS]

00:12:05   anniversary episode kind of sets up is [TS]

00:12:07   its Gallifrey is a horrible horrible [TS]

00:12:10   place but there are also things worth [TS]

00:12:12   redeeming about it and you know David [TS]

00:12:15   thought that was step one in terms of [TS]

00:12:17   Gallifrey can be looked on as a [TS]

00:12:19   potential location a potential place for [TS]

00:12:22   good again this is step two in i'm no [TS]

00:12:25   longer willing to sacrifice Gallifrey [TS]

00:12:28   because of what I have been through [TS]

00:12:29   prior to this step three is do we ever [TS]

00:12:33   see them get another chance and I think [TS]

00:12:35   that's what the next season will really [TS]

00:12:36   grapple with except for its profit [TS]

00:12:39   actually I just want to say that when [TS]

00:12:42   fleischmann has joined us now out here i [TS]

00:12:45   think i heard breathing hello it it's [TS]

00:12:47   just a model very well just thinking [TS]

00:12:53   about started by going to stop the [TS]

00:12:54   conversation I was thinking that the [TS]

00:12:56   that you know everyone's afraid of [TS]

00:12:58   Gallifrey who's afraid of the big bad [TS]

00:13:01   Gallifrey but the problem was the whole [TS]

00:13:03   point of the the end of the University [TS]

00:13:05   episode was the Daleks of all destroyed [TS]

00:13:07   themselves are going to love everyone [TS]

00:13:09   blew up everyone else they think and [TS]

00:13:11   Gallifrey is hidden somewhere but then [TS]

00:13:13   you have this issue of the Daleks can [TS]

00:13:15   never die so now you have this whole of [TS]

00:13:17   previously you know seen reform Dalek [TS]

00:13:21   army that's massive it has a huge amount [TS]

00:13:23   of force and can bring in more and more [TS]

00:13:25   reinforcements and all the bad guys this [TS]

00:13:27   i remember there they apparently were [TS]

00:13:28   never destroy even though we saw that in [TS]

00:13:30   previous episodes was one cyber at left [TS]

00:13:32   and so forth so we're left with all the [TS]

00:13:35   villains back and in their full evil [TS]

00:13:37   strength [TS]

00:13:38   no I don't think they are at all [TS]

00:13:40   actually I think I mean clearly they're [TS]

00:13:42   they're back in there around but that's [TS]

00:13:44   established in years and years of cannon [TS]

00:13:46   where [TS]

00:13:46   it's you know these enemies will never [TS]

00:13:48   truly die they're just slowly rebuilding [TS]

00:13:50   themselves back up the Daleks are clear [TS]

00:13:53   i mean if the Daleks we're at full [TS]

00:13:54   strength the entire planet would be [TS]

00:13:56   surrounded by Dalek armies instead we [TS]

00:13:58   have maybe one or two ships of Daleks [TS]

00:13:59   and one ship of what looked like [TS]

00:14:02   hibernating Cyberman well but that's [TS]

00:14:04   ridiculous then bring the Time Lords [TS]

00:14:05   back in the blow a couple big ships out [TS]

00:14:07   of the air and I mean I think that's the [TS]

00:14:08   flaws like is it if there's not a [TS]

00:14:10   massive Dalek army out there then bring [TS]

00:14:12   back the full strength of Gallifrey and [TS]

00:14:14   just what model phrase not at full [TS]

00:14:16   strength either gal phrase I'm hiding in [TS]

00:14:17   a pocket dimension for years and years [TS]

00:14:19   and probably tell it wasn't anything [TS]

00:14:21   there for example they got those people [TS]

00:14:24   weapons and lasers and stuff so yeah [TS]

00:14:26   you're talking about [TS]

00:14:27   here's the thing about about the the [TS]

00:14:29   dollars in the toilet is the dogs aren't [TS]

00:14:31   going to disappear forever so the [TS]

00:14:32   original sacrifice that the end of the [TS]

00:14:34   time was very impressive because we [TS]

00:14:36   killed them both but of course they [TS]

00:14:37   couldn't stay dead so they brought him [TS]

00:14:38   back and they got bigger and bigger and [TS]

00:14:40   bigger [TS]

00:14:40   at which point you have this weird [TS]

00:14:42   conundrum of well I sacrificed you know [TS]

00:14:46   this damn the time-worn destroy the [TS]

00:14:47   Daleks too but they weren't destroyed so [TS]

00:14:49   why did i do that and I felt like the [TS]

00:14:52   50th anniversary episode tried to undo [TS]

00:14:54   some of that right i will say it where I [TS]

00:14:57   agree with David is what I really liked [TS]

00:15:00   about the 50th was it it's sort of put [TS]

00:15:02   Gallifrey out there and said that's [TS]

00:15:03   where I'm working and then I look at [TS]

00:15:05   this episode I'm like really it's the [TS]

00:15:07   entire plot device of the very next [TS]

00:15:09   episode I was really disappointed by [TS]

00:15:11   that because i was hoping i would be a [TS]

00:15:12   new direction for the show and become [TS]

00:15:14   out there and instead it just now I look [TS]

00:15:16   back on the 50th and it actually devalue [TS]

00:15:18   the little for me because now it feels [TS]

00:15:19   like sort of a cheap set up for the next [TS]

00:15:21   episode which is not at all what I was [TS]

00:15:24   hoping for anyway [TS]

00:15:26   but but I do i do take the point that [TS]

00:15:28   you know it's an interesting place we [TS]

00:15:31   get to where the Daleks if if he's got [TS]

00:15:35   the ability to let the Time Lords out of [TS]

00:15:37   the bottle which he wants to do well [TS]

00:15:39   eventually but he realizes if he doesn't [TS]

00:15:41   hear all that happens is the time where [TS]

00:15:43   comes back so he's not here to do it he [TS]

00:15:45   had a plot device you have to do which [TS]

00:15:47   is they got they had to figure out how [TS]

00:15:48   you get another regeneration without [TS]

00:15:50   bringing the value our din yet last [TS]

00:15:52   value is less to come in the Canon [TS]

00:15:54   somewhere now I didn't know [TS]

00:15:56   well there's a little talk about [TS]

00:15:59   well you they mentioned him in the name [TS]

00:16:01   of the doctors that was one thing I was [TS]

00:16:03   sitting there thinking wait a minute let [TS]

00:16:05   me know many of the value and already [TS]

00:16:06   the values the post regeneration that's [TS]

00:16:09   the lessee to lean mice between my [TS]

00:16:10   twelfth and last which now goes on have [TS]

00:16:14   remember exactly so it's it never needs [TS]

00:16:16   to be dealt with the morning i'm not [TS]

00:16:18   there for the master to write down [TS]

00:16:20   everything her generation a freedom but [TS]

00:16:22   river gave him one of her regeneration [TS]

00:16:24   energy which was limited so we actually [TS]

00:16:26   already did a regeneration just an [TS]

00:16:27   account because it wasn't his own right [TS]

00:16:29   we go around regeneration of the 10th [TS]

00:16:32   doctor without his own that was [TS]

00:16:34   something yet with the Dixie Mafia [TS]

00:16:35   definitely had so here's here's the [TS]

00:16:37   thing I i I'm mostly going to agree with [TS]

00:16:41   David here as an episode i think this is [TS]

00:16:43   work i think a lot of moments worked in [TS]

00:16:45   it one of the things that bothered me [TS]

00:16:46   about it though was I felt like Steven [TS]

00:16:49   Moffat was checking boxes off and the [TS]

00:16:52   regeneration thing he was checking that [TS]

00:16:54   box off [TS]

00:16:55   I think he wanted he wanted to clear the [TS]

00:16:56   decks of all the sort of like loose [TS]

00:16:58   threads of the Matt Smith era to the [TS]

00:17:00   point where there's that scene in the in [TS]

00:17:02   the haunted hotel episode where he looks [TS]

00:17:04   inside room 11 and and sees what's in [TS]

00:17:08   there his greatest fear and says of [TS]

00:17:10   course it's you and then we never see it [TS]

00:17:12   there's a flashback to that in this [TS]

00:17:14   episode that shows that it's the crack [TS]

00:17:16   because I said like check check check I [TS]

00:17:17   want to close out all the loops i wanna [TS]

00:17:19   i wanna mark everything off all he does [TS]

00:17:21   he does all of that but you know it it [TS]

00:17:24   just reinforces the old line that [TS]

00:17:27   sometimes the mystery is better than the [TS]

00:17:28   solution to the mystery because I felt [TS]

00:17:30   like that was what we were watching as a [TS]

00:17:31   writer checking off boxes but I was [TS]

00:17:33   really really glad he did it for a [TS]

00:17:35   couple things because that stupid who [TS]

00:17:36   blew up the TARDIS thing has been [TS]

00:17:38   sitting and I know remind me to isn't [TS]

00:17:40   there was driving like either like well [TS]

00:17:42   recently I was like you never explained [TS]

00:17:44   that did they like it sends the [TS]

00:17:46   officially licensed now but they're just [TS]

00:17:48   priest and they're just priests anyway [TS]

00:17:51   Clayton I love the idea of so here's the [TS]

00:17:56   thing about the entire Matt Smith era [TS]

00:17:57   and the plot of the silence and the [TS]

00:17:59   great intelligence and silence of [TS]

00:18:01   holland cetera [TS]

00:18:02   I think Steven Moffat came up with a [TS]

00:18:04   brilliant idea which is the you know [TS]

00:18:06   there's this church and I skin at church [TS]

00:18:10   has been friendly for the doctor for the [TS]

00:18:12   long time [TS]

00:18:12   I'm and then a schism of this church [TS]

00:18:14   after seeing what happens at trenzalore [TS]

00:18:16   discover decides no this cannot happen [TS]

00:18:19   we're gonna go back in time and screw [TS]

00:18:22   with the doctor to prevent him either [TS]

00:18:24   from a ever getting to trenzalore be [TS]

00:18:26   making sure he dies at trends lore and [TS]

00:18:28   this you know the answer to this [TS]

00:18:30   question is never had answered because [TS]

00:18:31   we don't want Gallifrey to come back [TS]

00:18:34   into the world when you look at his [TS]

00:18:36   storyline literal linearly it's like oh [TS]

00:18:38   man that's actually a really cool story [TS]

00:18:40   line [TS]

00:18:40   the problem is he's been dealing it out [TS]

00:18:42   and tiny bits and pieces throughout this [TS]

00:18:44   entire season so we finally get the [TS]

00:18:46   interesting you know in important parts [TS]

00:18:49   in this episode where it's like yeah [TS]

00:18:51   this is a church that the doctor was you [TS]

00:18:53   know it vitally integrated with because [TS]

00:18:56   we've seen them before we've seen them [TS]

00:18:57   when the Angels first popped up [TS]

00:18:59   we've seen them elsewhere too although [TS]

00:19:01   they've never been named the sect was [TS]

00:19:03   the sect that kidnapped melody like [TS]

00:19:05   there's there's so many little bits and [TS]

00:19:08   pieces that have been hidden truck all [TS]

00:19:10   throughout this series but it's well no [TS]

00:19:12   it's just the it just wasn't put [TS]

00:19:13   together properly did this [TS]

00:19:15   yeah i'm gonna get out there was a good [TS]

00:19:17   pit that the fact that they always [TS]

00:19:18   thought that the silence was trying to [TS]

00:19:20   portray itself as the good guys right [TS]

00:19:22   there is a recurring theme of the [TS]

00:19:23   silence as evil as they come across and [TS]

00:19:26   as sort of cruel and unpleasant and and [TS]

00:19:28   sadistic that they actually see [TS]

00:19:30   themselves like no no we're saving the [TS]

00:19:32   universe here like we were were awful [TS]

00:19:34   awful people but the point is that [TS]

00:19:36   you're going to destroy the universe and [TS]

00:19:38   we're not having any and that was kind [TS]

00:19:40   of in that was sort of reaffirmed here [TS]

00:19:41   in a slightly nicer way [TS]

00:19:43   well I kind of agree with Ren that I [TS]

00:19:44   think this story looks it looks good [TS]

00:19:46   from like 30,000 feet [TS]

00:19:47   the problem is if usually not any [TS]

00:19:49   particular point the execution kind of [TS]

00:19:51   falls down at it it's like I mean like [TS]

00:19:52   going afterwards I was like reading the [TS]

00:19:54   wikipedia articles trying to remember [TS]

00:19:55   all these various like things that [TS]

00:19:57   happens like that's kind of cool that [TS]

00:19:58   there are these tiebacks to all these [TS]

00:20:00   things and there is kind of a long [TS]

00:20:01   jesting plot when you look at it from [TS]

00:20:03   like zoomed out but i agree that you [TS]

00:20:06   know on am less macro level when you're [TS]

00:20:08   actually in those episodes a lot of them [TS]

00:20:10   don't go as well as you would hope but [TS]

00:20:12   it is a cool idea was ambitious it just [TS]

00:20:14   did fail whatever makes go ahead never [TS]

00:20:17   anyways okay that never at any point did [TS]

00:20:19   I feel like I was seeing the resolution [TS]

00:20:24   of something that had been set up [TS]

00:20:26   it felt to me like those were just [TS]

00:20:28   didn't mean honestly it felt a little [TS]

00:20:29   bit like this is a writer who got taken [TS]

00:20:32   by surprise about the quick departure of [TS]

00:20:34   his star and felt need to wrap [TS]

00:20:35   everything up in an episode and i don't [TS]

00:20:37   think the facts bear that out and yet it [TS]

00:20:39   felt like that like like this wasn't on [TS]

00:20:42   him the master plans final act so much [TS]

00:20:44   as I want to I want to tie up some loose [TS]

00:20:47   ends in passing for the fans on my way [TS]

00:20:50   out and and that was gonna be my other [TS]

00:20:51   larger point about this is i oftentimes [TS]

00:20:53   when this since they've been doing [TS]

00:20:56   Christmas episodes of Doctor Who there's [TS]

00:20:59   a lot of criticism those episodes [TS]

00:21:00   because they're these big loud [TS]

00:21:01   spectacles and their emotional and [TS]

00:21:04   there's explosions and at the end you [TS]

00:21:05   know everybody's had a good time but [TS]

00:21:07   it's not like it there can be kind of [TS]

00:21:09   runaround and they're just kind of fun [TS]

00:21:10   and and what shocked me about this [TS]

00:21:13   episode is that it's just totally not [TS]

00:21:15   that it this is a for the fans take off [TS]

00:21:18   all the boxes resolve strange plot holes [TS]

00:21:21   and I and I think a regular kind of more [TS]

00:21:23   casual viewer who's watching this [TS]

00:21:25   especially you know on the BBC on on on [TS]

00:21:28   christmas eve and christmas night is a [TS]

00:21:31   would be like what the heck was that in [TS]

00:21:33   contrast to the most of the previous [TS]

00:21:36   episodes it just felt very very much [TS]

00:21:38   like it was about fans and continuity [TS]

00:21:39   and the show itself and that's you know [TS]

00:21:42   that's fine it is a regeneration episode [TS]

00:21:44   but it surprised me that it didn't make [TS]

00:21:46   more of an attempt to have a story that [TS]

00:21:48   held together more than just by the fact [TS]

00:21:51   that you can go oh that's why it said [TS]

00:21:52   silence will fall on oh that's why [TS]

00:21:54   Madame Kovarian was bad and now it's [TS]

00:21:56   that crack man but did this kill us that [TS]

00:21:58   like if I mean so the the day of the [TS]

00:22:00   doctor was so good i mean i-i don't die [TS]

00:22:02   what's on the flash caster that everyone [TS]

00:22:04   hated it [TS]

00:22:04   no it was so good and i loved i thought [TS]

00:22:07   it was developing it was be it was [TS]

00:22:08   beautiful and the cinematography even [TS]

00:22:11   like it felt like a movie and it was big [TS]

00:22:15   in scope and it tied up a million loose [TS]

00:22:17   ends and it didn't drive us nuts even [TS]

00:22:19   that weird weird Tom Baker thing in this [TS]

00:22:21   one I'm like oh they brought back Amelia [TS]

00:22:23   for like just a little like by like all [TS]

00:22:26   come on it's always we are not that was [TS]

00:22:28   beautiful and it was the best thing that [TS]

00:22:30   I've seen was the best thing in the [TS]

00:22:31   entire pie how is ours and [TS]

00:22:33   9 I did not like that when we were young [TS]

00:22:36   we don't worry probably died again why I [TS]

00:22:38   like maybe comes out it was not there [TS]

00:22:41   was time he beginning yeah yeah [TS]

00:22:43   to be perfectly honest Jason I agree [TS]

00:22:45   with you in a large part in that it [TS]

00:22:46   doesn't it does not feel like a [TS]

00:22:49   resounding and our episode but i think [TS]

00:22:52   that was his intention i think that [TS]

00:22:55   Moffat was looking at this as alright [TS]

00:22:58   this is the send-off to matt smith and [TS]

00:22:59   it's going to be beautiful and it's [TS]

00:23:01   going to incorporate all the former [TS]

00:23:02   enemies and we're gonna tie up the the [TS]

00:23:04   story thread because we're finally going [TS]

00:23:06   to find out about the silence and we're [TS]

00:23:08   going to find out why his name is the [TS]

00:23:10   most important question in the universe [TS]

00:23:12   because really when you think about it [TS]

00:23:14   throughout the previous seasons of the [TS]

00:23:16   show you're like really his name really [TS]

00:23:18   but here it actually makes some [TS]

00:23:20   semblance of sense [TS]

00:23:21   the problem is in the execution like I [TS]

00:23:23   liked this episode and I thought it was [TS]

00:23:25   fun but as a as an arc tire it didn't [TS]

00:23:28   really work as you know anything more [TS]

00:23:30   than a collection of beautiful moments [TS]

00:23:32   it didn't quite work [TS]

00:23:34   I like that we're seeing more of Clara I [TS]

00:23:36   hope that we'll see more of her you know [TS]

00:23:38   in her you know competent self in future [TS]

00:23:42   episodes but I think Moffat as you said [TS]

00:23:45   Jason you know kind of looked back at [TS]

00:23:48   this entire storyline is like well i [TS]

00:23:50   tried to do something big and ambitious [TS]

00:23:52   and it didn't quite work out the way I [TS]

00:23:54   had planned it so but we still need to [TS]

00:23:57   give it a good send-off and we want to [TS]

00:23:59   move into stage two which is all about [TS]

00:24:01   Gallifrey and I really don't think also [TS]

00:24:03   that I that this sort of introduction [TS]

00:24:06   Misty's of Gallifrey was just the entire [TS]

00:24:09   payoff that we're going to see what did [TS]

00:24:11   the doctor [TS]

00:24:11   no no I mean like I don't even think [TS]

00:24:13   that it was supposed to be so much like [TS]

00:24:15   we're gonna blow our wad so soon after [TS]

00:24:17   showing all of this it's very much a [TS]

00:24:20   here we just want to make sure that you [TS]

00:24:22   understand that Gallifrey is not going [TS]

00:24:25   away anytime soon that we didn't just [TS]

00:24:27   bring in Gallifrey for day of the doctor [TS]

00:24:29   as a like look we can do really [TS]

00:24:32   beautiful epic stories but never going [TS]

00:24:34   to mention it again for 10 more episodes [TS]

00:24:35   I think Moffat really wants to keep make [TS]

00:24:38   sure viewers understand that the world [TS]

00:24:40   is changing and the scope is changing [TS]

00:24:42   its not just going to be little mini [TS]

00:24:43   arcs about you know Daleks for three [TS]

00:24:46   episodes or Cybermen [TS]

00:24:47   three episodes we're going to delve into [TS]

00:24:48   a giant more unified connected universe [TS]

00:24:51   and I'm really excited for that [TS]

00:24:52   assuming he can pull it off i did--like [TS]

00:24:54   i think that i was surprised to find out [TS]

00:24:56   what the what why there was a question [TS]

00:24:58   the question and answer finally made [TS]

00:25:00   sense like why is the question Doctor [TS]

00:25:02   Who I like oh it's a password because [TS]

00:25:04   it's the only thing in the universe that [TS]

00:25:06   the Time Lords could actually rely on as [TS]

00:25:09   something that only one person [TS]

00:25:10   ostensibly nose in a river song or [TS]

00:25:12   something maybe Clara and that memory [TS]

00:25:14   was erased from her [TS]

00:25:15   I thought clear was about to go over and [TS]

00:25:17   get the recovered memory from the [TS]

00:25:18   journey to the center of the TARDIS and [TS]

00:25:20   say oh it's you know it's Phil Phil [TS]

00:25:23   Jones and you know a little letting that [TS]

00:25:25   she wouldn't let in the the Time Lords [TS]

00:25:28   though because she knows that is not [TS]

00:25:29   what the doctor ordered [TS]

00:25:30   she's there to save the doctor and she [TS]

00:25:32   didn't dr. even though her timelines a [TS]

00:25:34   race because she never went to [TS]

00:25:35   trenzalore and got into his timeline so [TS]

00:25:37   it's time that timeline still exists [TS]

00:25:40   that time I mean hurt her prime timeline [TS]

00:25:43   still exists yeah but she has never [TS]

00:25:45   jumped into whether some future point he [TS]

00:25:46   comes back and it comes back again and [TS]

00:25:48   this is crazy but here's the thing Scott [TS]

00:25:51   our IT expert can tell us about the [TS]

00:25:53   wisdom of using your name as a password [TS]

00:25:55   for anything let alone the uniform right [TS]

00:25:57   i did when i was watching this I thought [TS]

00:25:59   that's an awful password [TS]

00:26:01   well I mean the password destroys the [TS]

00:26:03   University Ansan you know I mean from [TS]

00:26:06   from the beginning since he's been in [TS]

00:26:07   charge of muffins just love doing the [TS]

00:26:09   little doctor who ya jokes which I and [TS]

00:26:13   every time I've wanted to throw [TS]

00:26:15   something at the TV and you had you know [TS]

00:26:17   what 46 years where we managed to not do [TS]

00:26:21   that and now every other week he's [TS]

00:26:24   making up for lost time that he needs to [TS]

00:26:27   that door you know it's like I'm seeing [TS]

00:26:32   him do this it's like oh don't do it [TS]

00:26:34   don't do it and then of course he keeps [TS]

00:26:36   getting it you know building thinking [TS]

00:26:37   more about the bright side man he's [TS]

00:26:39   gotten it all of his system no probably [TS]

00:26:41   not everything's good but you know it's [TS]

00:26:43   it's really exciting that he's got [TS]

00:26:45   Gallifrey but then he's basically put [TS]

00:26:49   Matt Smith's doctor in stasis for 300 [TS]

00:26:52   years [TS]

00:26:53   what kept you know you know well i [TS]

00:26:57   managed to solve this impossible thing [TS]

00:26:58   in the last episode with all 13 [TS]

00:27:00   mean for all 12 incarnations well all 13 [TS]

00:27:03   really i was 10 and now this time he's [TS]

00:27:05   just gonna stay here for 300 years what [TS]

00:27:08   do you think something he thinks he's [TS]

00:27:09   dead [TS]

00:27:10   I don't see it but I don't want his part [TS]

00:27:14   no of course but i mean i think the [TS]

00:27:15   doctor at some point is when he realizes [TS]

00:27:18   that it's Gallifrey with that moment [TS]

00:27:21   work early on when when the Cybermen is [TS]

00:27:23   like Gallifrey seeing Matt Smith's face [TS]

00:27:27   fall is Paris second only to the what [TS]

00:27:30   planet is this trenzalore where it's at [TS]

00:27:32   step one of him just basically like [TS]

00:27:34   being like run this is this is important [TS]

00:27:39   and this is a problem and of Gallifrey [TS]

00:27:40   is back then i'm going to have to deal [TS]

00:27:42   with a lot of problems will be soon not [TS]

00:27:44   imagine it's like my everything caught [TS]

00:27:47   up with me kind of like I've been [TS]

00:27:48   running in keeping one step ahead of [TS]

00:27:50   everything for so long and now we can no [TS]

00:27:52   longer run but how does that connect to [TS]

00:27:54   the last episode that ends with him [TS]

00:27:56   going i'm gonna go find it [TS]

00:27:58   did he did he found it it's great yeah [TS]

00:28:01   it's right it's right here and now he's [TS]

00:28:05   taking care of it with the only way but [TS]

00:28:07   he knows how which is unfortunately the [TS]

00:28:09   end of his life staying in one place [TS]

00:28:11   guarding it from the onslaught of [TS]

00:28:13   potential the universe's monsters [TS]

00:28:17   waiting to crush his people he doesn't [TS]

00:28:19   want to bring his people back but he [TS]

00:28:20   doesn't want to just abandon him to die [TS]

00:28:22   and other hand the village like how many [TS]

00:28:24   people are in that village they keep [TS]

00:28:25   getting killed and shot the building and [TS]

00:28:27   Loan up and they just keep those are [TS]

00:28:29   they make a worthy crossovers quiet [TS]

00:28:31   Martin I think about coming this is just [TS]

00:28:33   a metaphor for the war on Christmas [TS]

00:28:35   yeah just keep in mind they should've [TS]

00:28:38   run dismissed oh my gods gods but I'm [TS]

00:28:42   yes found it now but he was hopeful at [TS]

00:28:45   the end of the last one he was hoping to [TS]

00:28:47   find yeah and so he finds it and he's [TS]

00:28:49   depressed to put night I don't like [TS]

00:28:52   solitaire found a surrounded by every [TS]

00:28:55   enemy that he ever faced i mean i-i [TS]

00:28:57   would be kind of the rest if I found my [TS]

00:28:59   home like that to also but it's not [TS]

00:29:02   hurting and the dollars on the table for [TS]

00:29:07   one at a time folks the time just got a [TS]

00:29:09   little more Killy as any kinda in the in [TS]

00:29:11   the day the doctors killing all kinds of [TS]

00:29:13   Daleks and so forth [TS]

00:29:14   this one is like high every generated [TS]

00:29:16   boom you're dead you're dead in the UU [TS]

00:29:18   whole ship you're dead to it seems a [TS]

00:29:20   little romantic dollars go and they're [TS]

00:29:22   not how you know this but its shade off [TS]

00:29:24   a little [TS]

00:29:25   it's come you know usually save it save [TS]

00:29:27   diverse at the end of you know drivers [TS]

00:29:29   trying to destroy everything in the [TS]

00:29:30   University reached out his hand now get [TS]

00:29:32   your chance but after after nine hundred [TS]

00:29:34   years he's tired as a crap and I did I [TS]

00:29:36   didn't like the fact that Steven Moffat [TS]

00:29:37   took the opportunity with a doctor [TS]

00:29:39   leaving to say what I and obviously this [TS]

00:29:42   is what he did he said what what can i [TS]

00:29:43   do that i can't do in any other episode [TS]

00:29:45   one of the things haven't been there for [TS]

00:29:46   hundreds of years and get old because [TS]

00:29:49   it's the last episode he's gonna [TS]

00:29:51   regenerate at the end anyway I'm and so [TS]

00:29:53   I thought that was a fun conceit that [TS]

00:29:54   although it can't shave his head too [TS]

00:29:57   yeah that's why not why not just for fun [TS]

00:30:00   it's a wig which it was because his his [TS]

00:30:02   hair was too short so we had to wear [TS]

00:30:03   wigs so they just have him wear a wig I [TS]

00:30:05   you know bien yet and yet i will i watch [TS]

00:30:08   the first 40 minutes or so thinking you [TS]

00:30:12   know this is but this is so strange it's [TS]

00:30:14   just like how did we end up here how do [TS]

00:30:16   we end up with him forever in this town [TS]

00:30:18   in this in a stalemate and maybe some of [TS]

00:30:20   it was just like I I couldn't it wasn't [TS]

00:30:23   that the idea of him being in a [TS]

00:30:24   stalemate where he can't make the [TS]

00:30:25   decision because all the options are bad [TS]

00:30:28   was a bad idea it's just that the the [TS]

00:30:31   way we got into it I felt like it was [TS]

00:30:33   kinda like we stumbled into it and I [TS]

00:30:35   felt like there were there were no [TS]

00:30:36   decisions really being made it just sort [TS]

00:30:38   of happened and now he was stuck there [TS]

00:30:40   and yes to Rennes point the idea that [TS]

00:30:42   the doctor could willingly you know we [TS]

00:30:45   could not figure his way out of a [TS]

00:30:47   situation for hundreds and hundreds of [TS]

00:30:49   years also seems kind of crazy other [TS]

00:30:50   matt smith seems to be you know the [TS]

00:30:52   doctor who enjoy is taken some taking [TS]

00:30:54   some leisure time off on his own so [TS]

00:30:57   maybe this was his retirement he didn't [TS]

00:30:59   you know he didn't want to go so he said [TS]

00:31:01   and I'll solution Marysol there too [TS]

00:31:03   yeah we also know that he kind of loses [TS]

00:31:05   his head when it comes to Gallifrey you [TS]

00:31:07   know who's never thought calmly about [TS]

00:31:09   that just like your cameraman [TS]

00:31:12   yeah i agree about the execution part [TS]

00:31:15   where it comes to the idea that it i can [TS]

00:31:18   picture an episode that pulls that [TS]

00:31:20   conceit off much better in terms of [TS]

00:31:22   feeling like you're entrench but in this [TS]

00:31:24   one we keep popping back and forth right [TS]

00:31:26   so there's not that feel [TS]

00:31:28   thing because the the siege of it is [TS]

00:31:30   condensed to you know montage [TS]

00:31:32   essentially yeah [TS]

00:31:33   whereas it could be a lot different if [TS]

00:31:35   you were like you you know didn't have [TS]

00:31:37   those constant pressure valve releases [TS]

00:31:39   where we go and see Clarence family or [TS]

00:31:41   go up to the ship to talk to the nun [TS]

00:31:42   that you know if you really felt like oh [TS]

00:31:44   my God we're in the trenches here and [TS]

00:31:46   he's like staying here because this is [TS]

00:31:47   the only thing he can do to keep these [TS]

00:31:49   people alive and to keep the you know [TS]

00:31:51   the Time Lords life i think that could [TS]

00:31:52   have been pulled off a lot better i [TS]

00:31:53   don't mind that the idea i just i think [TS]

00:31:55   the execution [TS]

00:31:56   that's all I was horrible at time travel [TS]

00:31:57   or time ironically time travel [TS]

00:32:00   he's been horrible at opposite sides [TS]

00:32:01   that span a long time period pieces yeah [TS]

00:32:05   he's facing his pacing goes all the way [TS]

00:32:07   out the window whenever he's trying to [TS]

00:32:09   do something epic look at a look at what [TS]

00:32:12   was the first Amy and Rory one with the [TS]

00:32:14   with the Pandora's box that was like [TS]

00:32:18   lets span thousands of years and yeah [TS]

00:32:20   anytime he employs a narrator you know [TS]

00:32:23   that the episode is going to be weeping [TS]

00:32:24   I was going to mention the narrator and [TS]

00:32:26   say that I thought this was very strange [TS]

00:32:28   because Tasha LEM the the mother [TS]

00:32:31   superious not superior also known as [TS]

00:32:34   mrs. Bishop from fringe [TS]

00:32:36   oh yeah Walter bishops wife and Peter's [TS]

00:32:39   much is the narrator here she's the the [TS]

00:32:42   disappearance of the papal mainframe and [TS]

00:32:45   i found that weird because it's a [TS]

00:32:46   character we don't know she um she turns [TS]

00:32:50   into a Dalek at one point and yet she [TS]

00:32:52   comes back later in a Dalek again which [TS]

00:32:54   also doesn't make any sense and and she [TS]

00:32:56   continues narrating and then she just [TS]

00:32:58   and then her narration stops at one [TS]

00:32:59   point I found that I found that really [TS]

00:33:01   bizarre because it was like trying to [TS]

00:33:03   make it like a fairy tale like Steven [TS]

00:33:04   Moffat has done with dr. had several [TS]

00:33:06   points and I I don't mind that [TS]

00:33:08   and yet it seemed weird really weird and [TS]

00:33:10   inconsistent like it didn't it didn't [TS]

00:33:12   really belong but there was no other way [TS]

00:33:14   for him to get this to the story to make [TS]

00:33:17   any sort of sense and and we don't even [TS]

00:33:19   know who she is nor is it really reveal [TS]

00:33:21   to she is and and the interaction that [TS]

00:33:23   he has with her is also we felt to me [TS]

00:33:25   like she's almost river song with the [TS]

00:33:27   name changed which which seemed bizarre [TS]

00:33:29   to me and I kept waiting for a line [TS]

00:33:31   where she said well you know I'm [TS]

00:33:32   actually just you know river song with a [TS]

00:33:35   hologram projection or I'm the uploaded [TS]

00:33:38   river song from the library in a you [TS]

00:33:40   know you know it [TS]

00:33:41   in the papal mainframe or something and [TS]

00:33:42   there was just sort of nothing it's just [TS]

00:33:43   kind of left there which was very seems [TS]

00:33:45   a little bit the end at the end of said [TS]

00:33:47   she gives a little bit about like she [TS]

00:33:49   was almost a companion but didn't quite [TS]

00:33:51   get there but you're right it's almost [TS]

00:33:52   as if they'd written apart for Alex what [TS]

00:33:54   you're facing an ATM [TS]

00:33:55   thank you Alex Kingston and then decided [TS]

00:33:57   not to cast her she can do it had that [TS]

00:33:59   feel like I'm missing like in the day [TS]

00:34:02   the doctors like something's missing [TS]

00:34:04   here there's a piece because she's too [TS]

00:34:06   familiar and he's both to enter an order [TS]

00:34:08   enough it was wait and river got you [TS]

00:34:10   know I thought rivers final scene in [TS]

00:34:11   name of the doctor was great and that [TS]

00:34:13   that was a good ending for her and if we [TS]

00:34:15   see her again out of sequence that's [TS]

00:34:17   fine I don't need to see her [TS]

00:34:18   I think feel like that's our final death [TS]

00:34:20   but but he just touched so that the [TS]

00:34:23   narration was weird and the character [TS]

00:34:24   was weird and which is not to say that [TS]

00:34:26   the the character didn't do some [TS]

00:34:28   interesting things but I you know that [TS]

00:34:30   was one of those seasons they just stuck [TS]

00:34:31   out like a sore thumb especially so full [TS]

00:34:33   of thin characters though is like you go [TS]

00:34:35   into the spillage they have a really [TS]

00:34:36   good get the really hilarious exchange [TS]

00:34:38   about the truth field and in the [TS]

00:34:39   explanation of why there would be a [TS]

00:34:40   truth field like okay i bought it i was [TS]

00:34:42   not a great gimmick and then it's [TS]

00:34:44   essentially totally dropped in the [TS]

00:34:46   villagers are cardboard that get blown [TS]

00:34:47   up after that point with little [TS]

00:34:48   exceptions even you know Clarence family [TS]

00:34:52   I'm like it's Donna's family it's the [TS]

00:34:54   mother who's the Shrew is trying to get [TS]

00:34:56   them married the grandmother who's all [TS]

00:34:58   got folk wisdom and like Bernard [TS]

00:35:00   Cribbins and so for someone like I [TS]

00:35:02   didn't feel like there was any [TS]

00:35:03   uniqueness in the family and the [TS]

00:35:06   villages for backdrop and the and they [TS]

00:35:07   added new characters in there so it i [TS]

00:35:10   don't know and they really should be [TS]

00:35:10   Clara and the doctor they kept [TS]

00:35:12   separating them so kind of waiting for [TS]

00:35:13   things to happen [TS]

00:35:14   I just thought they lost some of the [TS]

00:35:15   core there because it's not that he [TS]

00:35:18   wouldn't keep trying to send her away [TS]

00:35:18   but when they sent her away like four [TS]

00:35:20   times or something I was relieved though [TS]

00:35:22   that they did finally get the turkey out [TS]

00:35:23   of there because i was waiting for the [TS]

00:35:24   fans to be like a turkey is still cold [TS]

00:35:27   nevermind connected the bone to the NICU [TS]

00:35:29   now I don't like this game even her [TS]

00:35:33   family is sitting there for 300 years [TS]

00:35:34   waiting for her to come back i had when [TS]

00:35:37   i saw handles I thought handles I was [TS]

00:35:39   merely thinking Tommy know Tom Hanks [TS]

00:35:40   it's well she is that the beautiful [TS]

00:35:43   I just enjoyed the the exchange with the [TS]

00:35:45   cart is irrelevant was like that better [TS]

00:35:48   information in here [TS]

00:35:51   that was my face of the interactions of [TS]

00:35:53   the rest of the show I was like well [TS]

00:35:54   they bonded there are those guys to [TS]

00:35:58   think that the Cybermen are becoming [TS]

00:35:59   more and more like the board which I [TS]

00:36:00   know the border basement Cyberman but [TS]

00:36:02   the seems like this coming into this [TS]

00:36:04   weird nexus of cyborgs will be the [TS]

00:36:07   sweetest joke but the Cybermen have [TS]

00:36:09   always had problematic right so I [TS]

00:36:11   thought that wasn't that wasn't bad to [TS]

00:36:13   be like what can we do with them to make [TS]

00:36:14   them there's def a dip some desperate [TS]

00:36:16   move to make them more interesting i [TS]

00:36:18   think i thought i did like that i did [TS]

00:36:20   like the head and I like the wood [TS]

00:36:21   Cyberman I don't like the woods and that [TS]

00:36:23   was really a funny thing and and of [TS]

00:36:24   course we know it doesn't work on wood [TS]

00:36:26   right there's futurama episode which [TS]

00:36:28   bender replicates himself in wood and I [TS]

00:36:30   that was immediately my thought there's [TS]

00:36:31   a wooden bender and I'm like are they [TS]

00:36:33   know it's totally related only with i [TS]

00:36:36   also did like the funny bit worried like [TS]

00:36:38   shows up on the Dalek ship with the sky [TS]

00:36:39   stock then you're like well that's funny [TS]

00:36:42   that he's got the Cybermen head and a [TS]

00:36:43   cyber mashup I was like okay I'm so good [TS]

00:36:46   and it was good twice why is a Cyberman [TS]

00:36:49   head like you know it's got sort of gets [TS]

00:36:51   in here to pick up things that you've [TS]

00:36:53   been traveling 400-year you because you [TS]

00:36:54   didn't companion with a bunch of scary [TS]

00:36:57   people [TS]

00:36:57   yeah i could just regenerate because you [TS]

00:36:59   have never seen as Cybermen head by [TS]

00:37:00   itself before they could assembly the [TS]

00:37:02   entire planet [TS]

00:37:02   wait we have yeah okay so at the end [TS]

00:37:06   Matt Smith's the solution apparently to [TS]

00:37:10   this this endless bitter standoff on [TS]

00:37:14   trenzalore is that the that uh Clara has [TS]

00:37:18   a firm i chat with the crack in the wall [TS]

00:37:21   and tells it to do things think about [TS]

00:37:25   how what it's done and do things [TS]

00:37:27   differently and be nice to the doctor [TS]

00:37:29   yeah and so the crack in the wall leaves [TS]

00:37:31   and goes up into the sky and sprinkles [TS]

00:37:33   regeneration magic on the dr. Parrish [TS]

00:37:37   Christmas in which which he inhales nn8 [TS]

00:37:39   apparently give some new regenerations [TS]

00:37:41   because they do not inhale Jason well no [TS]

00:37:44   way I'm afraid he did [TS]

00:37:45   I'm afraid of force the the fairy dust [TS]

00:37:47   forced his way in there and he violently [TS]

00:37:49   exploded as we saw David attended to and [TS]

00:37:51   this explosion destroys like all the [TS]

00:37:54   Dalek stuff that is attacking the planet [TS]

00:37:56   and there's a big shock wave and who [TS]

00:37:59   knows how many of the Christmas people [TS]

00:38:00   survive but that's that's the big that's [TS]

00:38:04   the big rescue [TS]

00:38:04   should've made it part yes you did the [TS]

00:38:06   cardboards all they could speak the ones [TS]

00:38:08   ok tiny tim was fine time each other [TS]

00:38:12   behind me why me why me time is finality [TS]

00:38:14   so so that that happened advantage in [TS]

00:38:18   which i did I didn't which I didn't love [TS]

00:38:20   because I thought it was like a on one [TS]

00:38:24   level was clever because it's like hey [TS]

00:38:26   those explosive regenerations are [TS]

00:38:27   finally good for something I thought [TS]

00:38:28   that was kind of funny but that was that [TS]

00:38:31   was that was that part was weird i liked [TS]

00:38:33   when Clara goes back into the TARDIS I [TS]

00:38:36   liked the rest of it I liked I i liked [TS]

00:38:40   the the fake-out where we see Matt [TS]

00:38:44   Smith's kind of clothes and stuff all [TS]

00:38:45   over and we're led to believe that we've [TS]

00:38:47   now seen him regenerated and Peter [TS]

00:38:49   Capaldi is gonna walk out and it turns [TS]

00:38:50   out to be young matt smith who basically [TS]

00:38:52   says goodbye and then you know snaps his [TS]

00:38:55   head back and turns into Peter Capaldi i [TS]

00:38:57   like and i love sudden oh ok yeah and I [TS]

00:39:01   love to speech I thought his speech was [TS]

00:39:03   was beautiful [TS]

00:39:05   actually I thought that was a really [TS]

00:39:06   well well done my dad is best and the [TS]

00:39:09   most care that Moffat took with the [TS]

00:39:12   entire episode and quite rightly so is [TS]

00:39:14   that last little bit where where where [TS]

00:39:17   Matt Smith is on the stage for the last [TS]

00:39:18   time and and make some interesting [TS]

00:39:21   contrast to the discussion that david [TS]

00:39:24   tennant had about not wanting to go and [TS]

00:39:26   about how another man saunters away and [TS]

00:39:28   and in this being about the acceptance [TS]

00:39:31   of change and I thought that part was [TS]

00:39:33   really beautiful i don't really the plot [TS]

00:39:34   mechanics of the end of Iowa I'll [TS]

00:39:36   explode and solve this [TS]

00:39:38   I'm not sure really work for me but I [TS]

00:39:40   but once once clara was in the TARDIS I [TS]

00:39:44   thought they nailed the rest of it [TS]

00:39:46   didn't David Tennant's dr. only lived [TS]

00:39:48   for hundreds of years this guy live for [TS]

00:39:50   like isn't the man more than 1,000 or [TS]

00:39:52   600 VA is crazy it was over 20,000 20 [TS]

00:39:56   over 2,000 years old so kind of like [TS]

00:39:57   because there's a lot of hundred years [TS]

00:39:59   sometimes it's well-known a 1200 a long [TS]

00:40:01   time ago sweeter money was here already [TS]

00:40:03   which 1200 before he went out actors to [TS]

00:40:05   on gaps the way [TS]

00:40:07   yeah there's the gap in the inn in the [TS]

00:40:09   between season five season six where [TS]

00:40:12   he's traveling with that with amy and [TS]

00:40:14   rory staying at home and so the younger [TS]

00:40:17   version of him [TS]

00:40:18   is is called by the older version who [TS]

00:40:20   supposedly dies so that several hundred [TS]

00:40:23   years 3 and here this time you have here [TS]

00:40:25   is similar these three hundred years so [TS]

00:40:26   he's had like I just wonder if they're [TS]

00:40:28   trying to say like a little bit like the [TS]

00:40:30   the war doctor also maybe if this has [TS]

00:40:33   been enough time where tenant was [TS]

00:40:34   describing that character was more still [TS]

00:40:37   in the prime and felt it was UCS like [TS]

00:40:39   everybody's matt smith is is dying of [TS]

00:40:42   old age here there's no doubt about it [TS]

00:40:43   and the one thing I saw a lot of people [TS]

00:40:47   on Twitter freaking out about this [TS]

00:40:49   afternoon was that regeneration was too [TS]

00:40:51   fast all of a sudden these Peter Capaldi [TS]

00:40:53   and I just assumed and and maybe maybe [TS]

00:40:56   i'm assuming right because he set it up [TS]

00:40:58   for no good reason in the beginning I [TS]

00:41:00   just assumed that he was holographically [TS]

00:41:02   presenting himself as Matt Smith to [TS]

00:41:04   Clara and all of a sudden he's Peter [TS]

00:41:08   Capaldi I thought he did all the cover [TS]

00:41:10   of all the energy and it was he like [TS]

00:41:11   this is the reared and then they led [TS]

00:41:13   into the whole thing like you know to [TS]

00:41:15   fly this so this is a bad regeneration [TS]

00:41:17   like this out of the earlier that was [TS]

00:41:19   funny well that happens you know that [TS]

00:41:20   happens regularly but who didn't love [TS]

00:41:22   the idea of the kidneys though I was [TS]

00:41:24   away I don't like the color I like the [TS]

00:41:26   color it but it's good you know that you [TS]

00:41:30   can tell the color [TS]

00:41:31   alright i did feel like throwing a [TS]

00:41:33   Malcolm Tucker bleepity bleep at the end [TS]

00:41:36   so yes yes yeah i'm not sure if that was [TS]

00:41:39   my reaction when he was just thinking [TS]

00:41:42   about my reaction it's interesting [TS]

00:41:43   because you know I went regenerating [TS]

00:41:45   Smith I think a lot of people were like [TS]

00:41:47   you know had grown so attached this man [TS]

00:41:50   tera to david tennant they're like wow [TS]

00:41:52   this new guy is you [TS]

00:41:54   whereas i feel like with Capaldi I'm [TS]

00:41:55   like I'm very interested to see what he [TS]

00:41:57   does like I mean I i love Smith and I [TS]

00:41:59   was always excited to see what he did [TS]

00:42:01   but Peter Capaldi is and you know he's a [TS]

00:42:03   known quantity in some ways right in a [TS]

00:42:05   way that matt smith was not and so [TS]

00:42:07   coming into that was like alright I'm [TS]

00:42:09   kind of curious to see what this doctor [TS]

00:42:11   does and how this doctor different also [TS]

00:42:12   the point that he's the he's the oldest [TS]

00:42:15   you the same age as William Hartnell and [TS]

00:42:16   the oldest doctor since since William [TS]

00:42:18   Hartnell not so that makes it a very [TS]

00:42:20   different change from the gentlemen [TS]

00:42:22   we've had for the last several years it [TS]

00:42:24   was a my wife said this to me as we're [TS]

00:42:27   watching because uh [TS]

00:42:28   we were watching the exact same place [TS]

00:42:29   where we watching even when the last [TS]

00:42:31   generation happened kind of strangely [TS]

00:42:33   and and she said you know it's the same [TS]

00:42:35   it's the same every time this with new [TS]

00:42:36   fans have to learn which is you know you [TS]

00:42:39   love you love the doctor and Easter dr. [TS]

00:42:41   and then he leaves and you're like I [TS]

00:42:42   don't want him to leave and then you [TS]

00:42:44   regenerate this like who is this new guy [TS]

00:42:45   i don't like him and then he comes in [TS]

00:42:47   you're like well okay maybe he's not so [TS]

00:42:50   bad and then a few years pass and he's [TS]

00:42:52   your guy and then he leaves and you're [TS]

00:42:54   like wait I don't want him to leave and [TS]

00:42:56   the Duke comes and you're like I don't [TS]

00:42:58   know about this guy i'm not sure I like [TS]

00:43:00   him and it goes on that's just how it is [TS]

00:43:02   shorts and I felt that night too [TS]

00:43:05   yes I kind of excited to see Peter [TS]

00:43:06   quality marier and all that because i [TS]

00:43:09   like matt smith and something else to [TS]

00:43:11   say to say you know maybe we should you [TS]

00:43:13   give a moment to reflect on Matt Smith's [TS]

00:43:15   tenure i mean overall I thought he did a [TS]

00:43:19   great job [TS]

00:43:19   I mean you can tell you something he had [TS]

00:43:21   some terrible writing on some episodes [TS]

00:43:23   but you deliver out and everything I i [TS]

00:43:25   I'm so why didn't like him exactly even [TS]

00:43:28   in this one the the parts that I I [TS]

00:43:30   really didn't like he sold it [TS]

00:43:33   he sold getting old he sold sitting [TS]

00:43:35   there for 300 years i think it was ok [TS]

00:43:37   with that [TS]

00:43:38   I hated the writing I think he was never [TS]

00:43:39   not i think it was never not good and [TS]

00:43:41   let's remember that he was cast it was [TS]

00:43:43   kind of a shock because you know so [TS]

00:43:45   young and nobody expected that and then [TS]

00:43:47   everybody kind of roll their eyes and [TS]

00:43:48   said oh you know there's always going to [TS]

00:43:50   be they're gonna get younger and younger [TS]

00:43:51   and and you know you're turning this [TS]

00:43:53   into a you know a kids show run by you [TS]

00:43:57   know starring kids and and you'll all [TS]

00:44:00   the eye-rolling all the complaining [TS]

00:44:01   about it and you know at the time the [TS]

00:44:03   producers said look he has this amazing [TS]

00:44:06   combination of things and when he walked [TS]

00:44:07   in the room we were just blown away that [TS]

00:44:09   he could be old and young at the same [TS]

00:44:11   time and he was totally the doctor and [TS]

00:44:12   you know what they got it they nailed it [TS]

00:44:14   he was all of those things he did a [TS]

00:44:15   fantastic job you can't I mean I can't [TS]

00:44:18   fault ya some of the episodes he he was [TS]

00:44:21   in were quite problematic although i [TS]

00:44:22   think that's true of pretty much every [TS]

00:44:24   actor I could you know David Tennant [TS]

00:44:25   went out with a whimper because most of [TS]

00:44:27   the specials weren't very good either [TS]

00:44:28   but you know what they always made it to [TS]

00:44:31   rise above their material so yeah you [TS]

00:44:33   know as actors barring that role that [TS]

00:44:35   role somehow always floats to the top [TS]

00:44:37   i feel i agree and that's what's [TS]

00:44:39   interesting is if you remember [TS]

00:44:41   when they cast him off and said we were [TS]

00:44:44   actually looking for an older man yeah I [TS]

00:44:46   wanted an older I got a theory that [TS]

00:44:48   Peter Capaldi was in the mix then to [TS]

00:44:50   yeah yeah I'm interested this awesome [TS]

00:44:53   this is maybe what he was planning then [TS]

00:44:55   yeah he changed everything because he [TS]

00:44:57   really like matt smith and thank [TS]

00:44:59   goodness [TS]

00:44:59   yeah yeah it was a good good call when a [TS]

00:45:01   you know I think they were they were [TS]

00:45:03   lucky to find him and got to love his [TS]

00:45:05   lithium his last fish fingers dosage [TS]

00:45:07   there at the end that was pretty cute [TS]

00:45:08   that was that was his fingers so here's [TS]

00:45:10   the thing about the day at the end of [TS]

00:45:12   regenerations we often will see dr. Zira [TS]

00:45:14   revisiting old companions or remembering [TS]

00:45:17   them i'm reminded that when Tom Baker [TS]

00:45:21   regenerated when Peter Davison [TS]

00:45:22   regenerated they actually were kind of [TS]

00:45:24   revisited by their old companions as [TS]

00:45:26   visions and so to have that happen with [TS]

00:45:28   amy and with Amelia and Amy who was [TS]

00:45:31   first face that he ever saw and his [TS]

00:45:34   story you know started and essentially [TS]

00:45:37   with a crack in the wall ended with with [TS]

00:45:39   her story to have her appear at the end [TS]

00:45:42   and tell him that his story was over I [TS]

00:45:45   thought that was beautiful and it was [TS]

00:45:46   just enough it wasn't really a me it was [TS]

00:45:48   his memory of a me to say you've done a [TS]

00:45:50   good job raggedy man and now it's a it's [TS]

00:45:53   over and I thought that was a that [TS]

00:45:55   product here to me I happy that I did I [TS]

00:45:57   did expect river to show up after that I [TS]

00:45:59   did have a pretty little bit of taking [TS]

00:46:00   her and Ramona she had like she had her [TS]

00:46:03   moment but i kinda you know your back [TS]

00:46:05   some weights be you know that that seems [TS]

00:46:07   like that would have driven drama [TS]

00:46:08   curtain entirely on that whole thread [TS]

00:46:10   but it's going for the top of the [TS]

00:46:12   mountain goshti spin-off series i'm [TS]

00:46:14   waiting for that because that would be [TS]

00:46:15   great but hasn't communicated astra [TS]

00:46:17   Madame vastra that's and Jenny yeah [TS]

00:46:20   yes tracks i won't struggle as I want I [TS]

00:46:22   want all stripes all the time we 20 [TS]

00:46:25   minutes animated be fine but just the [TS]

00:46:26   centaurans because we didn't see the [TS]

00:46:28   waning about things but those sent those [TS]

00:46:31   centaurans yeah the Sun arms yeah I like [TS]

00:46:33   that I can't see the controls invisible [TS]

00:46:36   that's good [TS]

00:46:37   cute yeah yeah yeah what I say go ahead [TS]

00:46:40   and highlight the we're sorry about your [TS]

00:46:43   death [TS]

00:46:43   yes it's rather nice apology very very [TS]

00:46:46   Douglas Adams I i kinda like the fact [TS]

00:46:49   that they've kept going for years and [TS]

00:46:50   years this whole religious army thing [TS]

00:46:52   has been consistent and it's actually [TS]

00:46:54   very amusing [TS]

00:46:55   that being specifically sacrilegious [TS]

00:46:57   it's more like it actually makes sense [TS]

00:46:59   it makes perfect sense so seen in the [TS]

00:47:01   past will see in the future I'll say [TS]

00:47:02   this about all of the red cons and and [TS]

00:47:05   tying off of loose ends in this episode [TS]

00:47:07   the one that i found hilarious was that [TS]

00:47:10   the silence as we've known them are [TS]

00:47:13   essentially the confessional priest of [TS]

00:47:16   this organization because after you [TS]

00:47:17   confessed you know nobody remembers what [TS]

00:47:20   happens that was good that was looking [TS]

00:47:22   at solution inja also because they seem [TS]

00:47:25   so they seem so menacing when they're [TS]

00:47:27   advancing on Clara right at the [TS]

00:47:29   beginning there right just use for keeps [TS]

00:47:32   forgetting them and you're sitting there [TS]

00:47:33   thinking what's the small the silence [TS]

00:47:35   was this building to you know what's [TS]

00:47:37   what evil thing is going to happen and [TS]

00:47:39   then it turns out that they're actually [TS]

00:47:40   not exactly harmless but look kind of [TS]

00:47:43   not really the enemy here right duh you [TS]

00:47:47   notice that was a kind of bored Queen [TS]

00:47:48   vibe there too i notice that it would [TS]

00:47:51   know this this is better than the board [TS]

00:47:52   queen i gotta say but there was that [TS]

00:47:54   whole like we lose the mother superious [TS]

00:47:56   the middle yeah alright inviting [TS]

00:47:59   somebody else's cannon now and long on [TS]

00:48:01   canon law [TS]

00:48:02   we're going i did like you know i'm i'm [TS]

00:48:05   kind of tired of the week the weeping [TS]

00:48:08   angels to just become a know what else [TS]

00:48:10   you gonna do with machinery and [TS]

00:48:11   shameless insertion of the weeping oh [TS]

00:48:13   that was great but that was a wonderful [TS]

00:48:15   i did like that because it was like okay [TS]

00:48:17   this is something we haven't seen with [TS]

00:48:19   them and yet it would be tough in a [TS]

00:48:21   blinding snowstorm they're buried in [TS]

00:48:22   snow that little soul also i like to [TS]

00:48:25   have enough time to do anything else [TS]

00:48:26   today we didn't bother coming back to [TS]

00:48:28   the mutants like other two yellow [TS]

00:48:29   tickets you want to get into town [TS]

00:48:30   ok here's here's my here's my nine year [TS]

00:48:33   old sons question which was very smart [TS]

00:48:35   of him after the episode was over he [TS]

00:48:37   said ok I think the people who wrote [TS]

00:48:39   this episode forgot that when the angels [TS]

00:48:41   touch you you they send you back in time [TS]

00:48:43   and they touched her on the phone and I [TS]

00:48:45   said I you're right i don't know maybe [TS]

00:48:46   they didn't the only force field they [TS]

00:48:48   actually want to grab number [TS]

00:48:50   no but they're there but they're holding [TS]

00:48:52   onto her ankle yeah but they got the [TS]

00:48:54   whole force field they've held on to [TS]

00:48:55   people before they held on to a really [TS]

00:48:57   held onto river the week when held their [TS]

00:48:59   songs are commercial break her wrist [TS]

00:49:01   yeah that's what that's what I'm saying [TS]

00:49:02   sometimes they don't want to send you [TS]

00:49:03   back in time I guess is the answer but [TS]

00:49:05   I'm just saying nine-year-olds want to [TS]

00:49:06   know [TS]

00:49:07   why the weeping angels are not portrayed [TS]

00:49:09   consistently was it almost doors it's [TS]

00:49:12   just the cherubs that set you back in [TS]

00:49:14   time [TS]

00:49:14   oh well they haven't read when you're [TS]

00:49:18   not done much fanfiction can be written [TS]

00:49:20   on this topic friend pointed out to me [TS]

00:49:22   at the end of the episode that the [TS]

00:49:24   doctor lies ostensibly in the truth [TS]

00:49:26   field but he said that has a plan and [TS]

00:49:28   then he says now I don't have a plan [TS]

00:49:30   writer I'm not many people i know that [TS]

00:49:32   this is once we crack it closes a [TS]

00:49:34   warrior the crime wanted that one one or [TS]

00:49:37   the other is a lie [TS]

00:49:38   yes is a clean has been played it [TS]

00:49:40   doesn't have a plan right you can't have [TS]

00:49:42   it both ways i have a fiendish plan is a [TS]

00:49:45   plan within a plan and we've been no [TS]

00:49:47   point I think it's wrapping up and the [TS]

00:49:49   plan wrapped will even know place that's [TS]

00:49:52   right just as a trick is just that good [TS]

00:49:54   more of a trick that a plan is the [TS]

00:49:56   doctor yeah [TS]

00:49:57   Eli's trick that's true dr. yes so it [TS]

00:50:03   sounds like so some of us some of us [TS]

00:50:06   like it and acknowledge its flaws and [TS]

00:50:08   some of us didn't like it but father had [TS]

00:50:09   good bits in it does that sound about [TS]

00:50:10   right [TS]

00:50:11   yeah yeah yeah i can go there and it was [TS]

00:50:14   hard coming off to the doctor because [TS]

00:50:15   that was I know Atlas in the fan was one [TS]

00:50:17   of their for that was pretty pretty good [TS]

00:50:19   i do you think day of the doctor is [TS]

00:50:21   where we're going bell like I had hope i [TS]

00:50:23   have saved that money is basically like [TS]

00:50:25   we're going to be friends with a long [TS]

00:50:28   way around [TS]

00:50:29   Scotty the interview for the we have to [TS]

00:50:32   regenerate matt smith she was gonna [TS]

00:50:34   let's take care of that now and now [TS]

00:50:35   let's go off and do other stuff yeah [TS]

00:50:36   don't forget the Christmas episode the [TS]

00:50:38   Christmas episodes are always sillier [TS]

00:50:40   and little off camera and I just for [TS]

00:50:42   anyway I found it wasn't one to do i [TS]

00:50:44   just found this wasn't that and it was a [TS]

00:50:46   lie i do think that Steven Moffat caught [TS]

00:50:48   between a rock and a hard place where he [TS]

00:50:50   had to do the 50th anniversary and he [TS]

00:50:51   did they knocked it out of the park I [TS]

00:50:52   thought but couldn't end that then he [TS]

00:50:55   could you could move that had to be on [TS]

00:50:56   that date and then he only he only had [TS]

00:50:59   one more episode with matt smith and it [TS]

00:51:00   had to be on Christmas so he was working [TS]

00:51:03   within very clear restrictions which is [TS]

00:51:05   you got to have some Christmas element [TS]

00:51:07   and you got to regenerate massive and [TS]

00:51:09   give him a send-off and wrap up all the [TS]

00:51:10   stories that maybe you know i would [TS]

00:51:12   argue maybe he should have tried to wrap [TS]

00:51:14   some of those up on it at the end of the [TS]

00:51:16   previous season right maybe he maybe he [TS]

00:51:19   thought he would have [TS]

00:51:19   another six or seven episodes yeah maybe [TS]

00:51:21   he thought he'd have more episodes with [TS]

00:51:22   matt smith and and that didn't work out [TS]

00:51:25   yeah yeah whoo whee we may never know [TS]

00:51:27   but uh it was it that was a tough task [TS]

00:51:30   and welcome our next guest even morpheus [TS]

00:51:32   ma the consuming he burned out all of [TS]

00:51:38   his creative energy on day of the doctor [TS]

00:51:41   and I'm figuring out and bring Sherlock [TS]

00:51:43   back and this just kind of filling [TS]

00:51:44   between like they have to write that too [TS]

00:51:47   honestly if you're gonna do one right do [TS]

00:51:49   the 50th anniversary episode right and [TS]

00:51:51   then and make sure you get the last time [TS]

00:51:54   we see the doctor before he regenerates [TS]

00:51:56   right and get those interests [TS]

00:51:58   yeah you don't have to the middle takes [TS]

00:51:59   care of itself yeah yeah I just sent my [TS]

00:52:02   spirit I just I like David Tennant and [TS]

00:52:05   that david tennant regenerated in a [TS]

00:52:06   really terrible i think episode the end [TS]

00:52:08   of time but but at the very end what'd [TS]

00:52:11   he do he sacrificed himself for a [TS]

00:52:13   regular person and I thought that was [TS]

00:52:14   kind of beautiful this was interesting [TS]

00:52:16   in the sense that he sort of does [TS]

00:52:17   sacrifice not only himself but I'm you [TS]

00:52:20   know all those years for this little [TS]

00:52:21   village I thought that was nice [TS]

00:52:23   I just you know again the execution [TS]

00:52:26   wasn't wasn't so great for me and [TS]

00:52:27   there's giant spaceships that he blew up [TS]

00:52:29   with regeneration powers even if it is [TS]

00:52:31   something we must talk about going to [TS]

00:52:33   the texts like he does this gives Peter [TS]

00:52:35   Capaldi's doctor a clean slate for the [TS]

00:52:38   first time in years where there's [TS]

00:52:40   nothing left over all the mat smith pots [TS]

00:52:42   are gone [TS]

00:52:43   even the pre-match slippery mess with [TS]

00:52:45   plots like all the entire history of the [TS]

00:52:48   show now has been wrapped up in the last [TS]

00:52:50   two episodes so that there's almost [TS]

00:52:52   nothing dangly out there so they have a [TS]

00:52:54   fresh slate let's hope it doesn't [TS]

00:52:55   immobilize Moffitt and he's incapable of [TS]

00:52:57   producing anything that would get with [TS]

00:52:59   the fresh ideas it is an interesting [TS]

00:53:00   position the show finds itself in [TS]

00:53:02   because this is a like when David [TS]

00:53:04   Tennant took over it's the same [TS]

00:53:05   production team by the new doctor and [TS]

00:53:08   and returning companion so it's not [TS]

00:53:11   quite the clean slate and I think [TS]

00:53:13   everybody's expecting that [TS]

00:53:15   Capaldi will probably end up working for [TS]

00:53:19   some other showrunner because i don't [TS]

00:53:20   think anybody really expecting off to [TS]

00:53:21   stick around more than maybe another [TS]

00:53:23   year or two so that might be interesting [TS]

00:53:25   too is Moffat kind of setting him off on [TS]

00:53:27   a direction and then walking away and [TS]

00:53:29   letting someone else take the reins who [TS]

00:53:30   knows what [TS]

00:53:31   will happen there but it isn't Clara [TS]

00:53:34   yeah this is no magazine 3 stars don't [TS]

00:53:36   know [TS]

00:53:37   yeah that could be is that he wants to [TS]

00:53:39   get the show fresh and ready to go he [TS]

00:53:41   said as much for the next 50 years what [TS]

00:53:43   he says he wants it to be able to be on [TS]

00:53:45   a on a new path and and matt smith says [TS]

00:53:47   at one point that this is you know he [TS]

00:53:49   has a new regeneration cycle so he's [TS]

00:53:51   essentially been granted by the time [TS]

00:53:52   lords a new set and and so in some ways [TS]

00:53:56   Peter Capaldi is like regeneration he's [TS]

00:53:59   the first doctor of the next set which [TS]

00:54:02   is interesting you know you just blew my [TS]

00:54:03   mind [TS]

00:54:04   stock 2.2 that explains why he's so old [TS]

00:54:07   that's right get younger and younger [TS]

00:54:09   yea struggling she was with my mother [TS]

00:54:13   who has not she knows nothing about [TS]

00:54:15   Doctor Who so she was quite confused but [TS]

00:54:17   at the end and when it strikes by know [TS]

00:54:19   you know he regenerates clever because [TS]

00:54:21   they can get a new actor so he [TS]

00:54:23   regenerates into Peter Capaldi and she's [TS]

00:54:25   like why is he so haha like well I just [TS]

00:54:29   too much [TS]

00:54:29   yeah i watch it with my mom later who [TS]

00:54:32   also hasn't seen the show and and and [TS]

00:54:34   she was she was sorry to see Matt Smith [TS]

00:54:36   go with the inches like a hole but is he [TS]

00:54:37   gonna come back and maybe that's maybe [TS]

00:54:39   it's a trick I'm like no it's veterans [TS]

00:54:40   that coming back but I don't think it's [TS]

00:54:42   interesting my mom started watching this [TS]

00:54:45   very real actively and she's like so [TS]

00:54:48   stupid i don't understand we're watching [TS]

00:54:49   this and at the end it was like a that [TS]

00:54:53   unfortunate commercial break actually [TS]

00:54:55   watching on the beach in my hand just [TS]

00:54:56   like is that the end of the show yeah I [TS]

00:54:59   don't know there's more but i was [TS]

00:55:01   watching when you are with my cousins [TS]

00:55:03   who are all die hard fans including out [TS]

00:55:05   my eye I 19 year old cousin who that the [TS]

00:55:08   vote for her when he takes off the bow [TS]

00:55:10   tie and drops and she's like oh ya know [TS]

00:55:12   what Dan who doesn't like the movie [TS]

00:55:14   diehard or die hard fans [TS]

00:55:17   yeah I'd like yeah a lot of official [TS]

00:55:21   twitter feed put out of thing before the [TS]

00:55:24   show this morning of a just a close-up [TS]

00:55:26   of the the boat I was just his last bow [TS]

00:55:29   Sherlock reference there is fine exactly [TS]

00:55:34   that's the face about 100 [TS]

00:55:39   it's amazing how is cool anything we [TS]

00:55:43   missed anything we should mention before [TS]

00:55:44   we go [TS]

00:55:45   tied up and mismanagement [TS]

00:55:48   oh yeah just a second forward to Peter [TS]

00:55:51   Capaldi though it's a little bit more [TS]

00:55:54   time to play with her character [TS]

00:55:56   yeah that'd be nice yet because i didn't [TS]

00:55:58   like learning center [TS]

00:55:59   yeah she was she was good she was I like [TS]

00:56:01   this straight sassy supportive smart [TS]

00:56:05   from the 50 of 2i think she I think the [TS]

00:56:08   more and more clear like the last couple [TS]

00:56:09   episodes definitely I mean I've [TS]

00:56:11   basically like to throughout the the [TS]

00:56:13   only false note i really had from her [TS]

00:56:15   tonight was just you know don't change [TS]

00:56:17   why do you have to change except of all [TS]

00:56:19   the Companions ever had she's the one [TS]

00:56:21   who probably should understand that he [TS]

00:56:23   changes and then it's ok you know [TS]

00:56:26   because you seen them all [TS]

00:56:28   she's are standing at that point the [TS]

00:56:30   audience yeah I know I know I know but [TS]

00:56:32   maybe you're not familiar like it was [TS]

00:56:35   right there there there wasn't a pun [TS]

00:56:39   so we didn't get nuggets I did like oh [TS]

00:56:41   yeah but don't change your clothes [TS]

00:56:43   people always to control her eyes at the [TS]

00:56:45   in that time crash special about how [TS]

00:56:47   David Tennant sister Peter Davison you [TS]

00:56:48   were my doctor I like that in this [TS]

00:56:50   episode matt smith business [TS]

00:56:51   hey I was my doctor haha yes i'll always [TS]

00:56:56   remember being me and loved it [TS]

00:56:58   goodbye everybody but that was cool [TS]

00:57:00   school bowties are cool know for those [TS]

00:57:03   references are sad little right I'm [TS]

00:57:06   hoping to do i'm hoping they'll be when [TS]

00:57:09   when Peter Capaldi arrives and he's [TS]

00:57:10   figuring out what what he's gonna where [TS]

00:57:12   he'll pick up fares and say something [TS]

00:57:14   like good god what was I thinking that [TS]

00:57:16   we'll be able to i can picture it some [TS]

00:57:18   good jokes they're all right well that's [TS]

00:57:22   it for dr. 11 onto onto dr. 12 sometime [TS]
