141: Tony Stark Wants the Credit

00:00:03   the incomparable number 141 may2013 [TS]

00:00:08   looking back to being comfortable [TS]

00:00:11   podcast I'm your host Jason still and [TS]

00:00:13   we're here to talk about something at [TS]

00:00:16   that's actually kind of current which is [TS]

00:00:18   not like me at all because since my [TS]

00:00:20   children were born I've essentially not [TS]

00:00:22   seen any movies but I managed to get out [TS]

00:00:25   and see iron man 3 in the theater and in [TS]

00:00:28   addition to that I hope to talk about [TS]

00:00:29   the efforts to iron man movies as well [TS]

00:00:32   and maybe iron man in general who knows [TS]

00:00:34   where we'll go with my wonderful panel [TS]

00:00:36   of guests joining me to talk about Tony [TS]

00:00:39   Stark and Iron Man and although all the [TS]

00:00:43   things in between are the things between [TS]

00:00:44   them [TS]

00:00:45   Jarvis yes is my own personal Jarvis got [TS]

00:00:48   Mykelti hi Scott [TS]

00:00:49   hello Jason just say I have five percent [TS]

00:00:52   battery that's what you want this does I [TS]

00:00:54   was trying to think of something that I [TS]

00:00:55   could say as Jarvis and all i had was [TS]

00:00:57   hello Jason [TS]

00:00:58   that's ok that works too you have five [TS]

00:01:00   percent battery Tony your batteries are [TS]

00:01:03   very low please charge my batteries also [TS]

00:01:07   joining me is nobody's Jarvis it's the [TS]

00:01:10   great Lisa Schmeisser hi Lisa [TS]

00:01:12   nobody's Jarvis what nobody's Jarvis [TS]

00:01:14   your no Gervais you will not be serviced [TS]

00:01:16   I don't know what it means i'm just [TS]

00:01:18   waking up with the half while I'm here [TS]

00:01:19   hi guys thank you it's you i'm glad that [TS]

00:01:21   you're here you're nobody service [TS]

00:01:23   I don't want to be a journalist I [TS]

00:01:25   computerized AI servant that's no good [TS]

00:01:29   at scotts job Andy a newcomer to the [TS]

00:01:34   incomparable the heat comes from canada [TS]

00:01:37   where iron man is known by his generally [TS]

00:01:43   is called iron man it's it's guy English [TS]

00:01:46   hi guy [TS]

00:01:46   I good to be here iron man 3 came out we [TS]

00:01:50   saw it I everybody saw it right we're [TS]

00:01:52   not gonna yep alright that's the one set [TS]

00:01:55   the Jazz Age right Richard on it [TS]

00:01:57   that's right there's a hip-hop [TS]

00:01:58   soundtrack with a season and everybody [TS]

00:02:00   is screaming and screaming the great [TS]

00:02:02   Tony yeah that's great that's pretty [TS]

00:02:05   much it so the I guess we should file a [TS]

00:02:11   fire off the spoiler horn because we're [TS]

00:02:12   going to talk about what's in the movie [TS]

00:02:13   and there's actually a gigantic spoiler [TS]

00:02:15   that I think the media did a pretty good [TS]

00:02:18   job of not revealing I had no idea going [TS]

00:02:20   into it that that it was going to come [TS]

00:02:22   to pass but we're gonna fire off the [TS]

00:02:23   sport [TS]

00:02:24   over here because we are going to [TS]

00:02:25   actually talk about everything that [TS]

00:02:26   happens in the movie so [TS]

00:02:31   alright so iron man 3 I obviously these [TS]

00:02:37   remember the original iron man came out [TS]

00:02:39   it was a people kind of skeptical like [TS]

00:02:41   Oh they've they've sunk to this when [TS]

00:02:43   they run out of all the good heroes and [TS]

00:02:45   now they've got these third-rate heroes [TS]

00:02:46   that nobody's ever heard of iron man was [TS]

00:02:48   always kind of more of a he was [TS]

00:02:50   important in the marvel comics but he [TS]

00:02:51   was never really never broke through to [TS]

00:02:54   the wider world in a way like like [TS]

00:02:56   spider-man did I mean that's the best [TS]

00:02:58   example of the x-men I think he's kind [TS]

00:03:00   of a low-rent Batman kind of well right [TS]

00:03:02   because he's a rich guy and he's got his [TS]

00:03:04   he doesn't have powers but he uses his [TS]

00:03:07   his money and his smarts to make kind of [TS]

00:03:10   like technology to help him be a hero [TS]

00:03:12   but he's he is kind of a Batman analog [TS]

00:03:14   in a lot of ways I think he's marvelous [TS]

00:03:16   Batman right so I would definitely say [TS]

00:03:18   so yeah yeah but people that people [TS]

00:03:20   didn't know him and so it was a surprise [TS]

00:03:21   i think when the first iron man movie [TS]

00:03:23   came out and it was a gigantic it was [TS]

00:03:26   actually the same year that the Dark [TS]

00:03:29   Knight came out and it was a it was a [TS]

00:03:32   huge hit it was very successful and [TS]

00:03:34   people were quite surprised i think a [TS]

00:03:37   lot of it has to do with robert downey [TS]

00:03:39   jr who I think is about [TS]

00:03:42   I mean I guess tied with JK Simmons is [TS]

00:03:44   jonah Jameson for the best comic book [TS]

00:03:47   movie casting ever but what a what a [TS]

00:03:50   huge asset to have somebody like Robert [TS]

00:03:53   Downey jr. as you're lead-in these [TS]

00:03:55   movies because I you know [TS]

00:03:57   Iron Man I guess in the hands of a [TS]

00:03:59   boring actor would probably be kind of [TS]

00:04:02   boring but Robert Downey jr. is not a [TS]

00:04:04   boring actor [TS]

00:04:05   yes the natural swagger that's required [TS]

00:04:07   for the goal yeah Tony Stark is it you [TS]

00:04:10   know he's a rich guy he's got an [TS]

00:04:11   attitude he's arrogant he's brilliant [TS]

00:04:14   but he's kind of a jerk and he's got [TS]

00:04:16   that playboy thing going on which again [TS]

00:04:17   is that there's your Batman analog right [TS]

00:04:19   because Bruce Wayne is supposed to be [TS]

00:04:21   well the difference is that Bruce Wayne [TS]

00:04:23   pretends to be a plate with Tony Stark [TS]

00:04:25   to you [TS]

00:04:26   oh yeah yeah exactly one of my favorite [TS]

00:04:30   Marvel iterations on our man is actually [TS]

00:04:32   the one ultimate swear they do a job [TS]

00:04:34   just making him drunk and faster and and [TS]

00:04:37   and basically a very very dangerous [TS]

00:04:39   savant the opposite visit because and I [TS]

00:04:43   think in some ways that the ultimate [TS]

00:04:45   iron man was used as a model for the [TS]

00:04:47   movie [TS]

00:04:48   sure it did pretty good did pretty dated [TS]

00:04:50   and other than other than the fatal [TS]

00:04:52   brain tumor [TS]

00:04:53   now they didn't know god no don't [TS]

00:04:54   suppose I i prefer not to talk about the [TS]

00:04:57   brain tumor or the fact that he's now [TS]

00:04:58   baby talk he talks to the brain tumor [TS]

00:05:00   know well and the brain tumor now talk [TS]

00:05:02   to technology psychic like that's the [TS]

00:05:03   thing that with a brain tumor [TS]

00:05:05   yeah I have no idea what you're talking [TS]

00:05:07   about okay good all good for the best [TS]

00:05:09   guys on comics you don't need to know [TS]

00:05:11   it's I'm sorry I know and but that's the [TS]

00:05:15   great thing about Tony Stark right is [TS]

00:05:16   that he is he is all of that and so in [TS]

00:05:18   that in that movie what I think took the [TS]

00:05:20   one it's nice to have a superhero is not [TS]

00:05:23   particularly tortured about his morals [TS]

00:05:24   yeah haha because you have to get like [TS]

00:05:27   an Ironman one he was tortured for about [TS]

00:05:28   five minutes and he's all effin I'm out [TS]

00:05:30   of the amount of the missiles business [TS]

00:05:31   i'm on privatizing world peace and like [TS]

00:05:33   he doesn't step and banging his head [TS]

00:05:35   into wall [TS]

00:05:35   sobbing about his dead parents or [TS]

00:05:37   whether or not the lab partners are [TS]

00:05:39   gonna know he's just like full speed [TS]

00:05:40   ahead i've committed and and it's [TS]

00:05:42   refreshing at the end of that movie too [TS]

00:05:44   there's that moment that is also spoiler [TS]

00:05:47   alert at the end of the movie where he [TS]

00:05:49   says an Ironman spoiler spoiler nice [TS]

00:05:52   turkey iron man that's great because [TS]

00:05:54   that completely supports the whole [TS]

00:05:55   superhero identity things like that I'm [TS]

00:05:57   gonna win us know who I don't care down [TS]

00:06:00   Tony Stark doesn't care [TS]

00:06:01   Tony Stark wants the credit is good [TS]

00:06:04   because if you were a genius who has a [TS]

00:06:07   nifty flying suit and you can shoot [TS]

00:06:09   things out of it and and you're [TS]

00:06:10   basically untouchable inside your [TS]

00:06:12   tin-can why would you need the fake [TS]

00:06:14   identity [TS]

00:06:15   yeah this is where we get into iron man [TS]

00:06:17   3 I guess because yeah that was a short [TS]

00:06:19   such decision [TS]

00:06:21   I have so many complaints well and and [TS]

00:06:24   bear in mind I i should add first I [TS]

00:06:26   really enjoyed the movie like I went to [TS]

00:06:28   see you thursday after trying it for [TS]

00:06:29   jeopardy and I went and I got into my [TS]

00:06:31   popcorn and I settled in and I watched [TS]

00:06:35   previews all of which were sequels [TS]

00:06:37   oh my grandmas equals the others like [TS]

00:06:38   review which we could do a whole episode [TS]

00:06:40   about the previews to iron man before [TS]

00:06:42   iron man 3 because that was I felt like [TS]

00:06:44   I was being pummeled by the movie [TS]

00:06:46   industry like the movie industry had [TS]

00:06:47   grabbed me by my shirt and pick me up [TS]

00:06:49   and was starting to just punch me in the [TS]

00:06:51   face it was like loud and cgi are the [TS]

00:06:53   new words for good [TS]

00:06:55   um so but you know I i enjoyed the movie [TS]

00:06:58   but I the whole time I was watching it [TS]

00:07:00   if it hadn't been for the fact there [TS]

00:07:01   were two other people in the theater I [TS]

00:07:03   think feeling I would have talked the [TS]

00:07:04   whole way through it and we have no but [TS]

00:07:06   they were there were actually two other [TS]

00:07:07   people and we didn't want to be the [TS]

00:07:09   jerks and so we just kind of but tony [TS]

00:07:12   stark would have talked to the movie he [TS]

00:07:14   will let me watch you would have been [TS]

00:07:16   watching it by himself a lion I i I'm [TS]

00:07:19   not as intelligent as loaded as time [TS]

00:07:21   starts so I two things for beginners [TS]

00:07:23   yeah Tony Stark's loaded into ways to [TS]

00:07:25   because he's alone he's got lots of [TS]

00:07:26   money and he's also drunk but to get him [TS]

00:07:29   like when he has that scene in iron man [TS]

00:07:31   3 where he walks out of the hospital [TS]

00:07:32   he's learning Mandarin come at me here's [TS]

00:07:34   my address and that's why I thought to [TS]

00:07:36   myself all right all of iron man two was [TS]

00:07:39   about how shield was infiltrating his [TS]

00:07:41   company because they want to make sure [TS]

00:07:42   that he wasn't permanently you know [TS]

00:07:45   bonkers and you're telling me that this [TS]

00:07:48   movie which takes place after the [TS]

00:07:49   vendors Avengers features a guy who has [TS]

00:07:52   stared into the void of the wormhole and [TS]

00:07:55   battled an alien race and eat shawarma [TS]

00:07:57   with a green Range machine and a Norse [TS]

00:07:59   God and a guy who's on ice for 70 years [TS]

00:08:02   you're telling me they're like oh well [TS]

00:08:04   we're not really interested in you [TS]

00:08:05   anymore so we haven't you know the you [TS]

00:08:08   tell me that she wasn't keeping track on [TS]

00:08:10   his mental health you're telling me that [TS]

00:08:11   shield have didn't immediately like sent [TS]

00:08:13   a helicopter out there that the near [TS]

00:08:15   total absence of shield like the name [TS]

00:08:17   check them was all I had to do shields [TS]

00:08:18   databases and that was like yeah and and [TS]

00:08:20   I thought after our men to wear Tony [TS]

00:08:23   couldn't you know grind on a chippy [TS]

00:08:25   without scarlett johansson taking a [TS]

00:08:27   notice like you're going to tell me that [TS]

00:08:28   threaten well-liked did the events this [TS]

00:08:30   movie take place while samuel jackson [TS]

00:08:32   and the rest of the [TS]

00:08:34   most of the shield people were at [TS]

00:08:35   sandals for the end-of-the-year retreat [TS]

00:08:36   like what happened they were there [TS]

00:08:38   they're building the rebuilding their [TS]

00:08:40   broken health carriers just makes no [TS]

00:08:42   sense to choose one coupon you've got [TS]

00:08:44   this global intelligence organization [TS]

00:08:46   that apparently decided like once Tony [TS]

00:08:47   Stark fell back from the sky always okay [TS]

00:08:49   we don't need to keep an eye on him [TS]

00:08:51   anymore [TS]

00:08:51   nevermind these six super-powered people [TS]

00:08:53   who who who were able to you know level [TS]

00:08:56   alien technologies [TS]

00:08:57   oh why should we care what they're up to [TS]

00:08:59   no I think there's gonna have to get [TS]

00:09:00   their heads together [TS]

00:09:01   yeah yeah it's goofy bit to be fair that [TS]

00:09:04   happens in the comics yeah like you know [TS]

00:09:06   he's peeing on the Avengers forever and [TS]

00:09:08   yeah we have you took it seriously [TS]

00:09:10   there were literally not be any comics [TS]

00:09:12   other than the Avengers right because [TS]

00:09:13   why would you ever work on your own you [TS]

00:09:15   would just work with the review of [TS]

00:09:17   constraints of the universe however [TS]

00:09:18   loosely they haven't this guys having [TS]

00:09:19   PTSD from what's going on right if you [TS]

00:09:23   have Bruce Banner fall asleep to his [TS]

00:09:25   monologue in that movie [TS]

00:09:27   yeah you know which totally feels like [TS]

00:09:29   fanservice by the way I'm like I don't [TS]

00:09:32   see how the house how's the post-credit [TS]

00:09:34   sequence ever not fanservice like why [TS]

00:09:36   don't they just have an explanation [TS]

00:09:37   early on board Jarvis is like well once [TS]

00:09:40   again i have made shield supercomputer [TS]

00:09:42   into my whimpering Lackey director fury [TS]

00:09:45   has eight calls into you want to answer [TS]

00:09:47   them in hand and have F Tony Stark seem [TS]

00:09:49   like a little thing so and then that [TS]

00:09:51   explains he's pushing everybody away [TS]

00:09:52   instead of oh they just been magicked [TS]

00:09:54   away i guess.i guess although I guess my [TS]

00:09:57   argument would be yes the same argument [TS]

00:10:00   that that my wife and I have about [TS]

00:10:01   Doctor Who sometimes is is there you [TS]

00:10:05   could insert dialogue that explains it [TS]

00:10:07   away but it's not going to necessarily [TS]

00:10:09   be that fulfilling I guess it does check [TS]

00:10:12   a box and you can be like okay good day [TS]

00:10:13   they explained away shield so now we can [TS]

00:10:16   proceed with the movie and if I if I [TS]

00:10:18   analyze it [TS]

00:10:19   I mean there are a few points in this [TS]

00:10:21   movie we're like hey Tony down on your [TS]

00:10:24   luck you could leave a message on your [TS]

00:10:26   helmet for your girlfriend or you could [TS]

00:10:29   call you know the Hulk right now I'm [TS]

00:10:33   just gonna leave a message for my [TS]

00:10:34   girlfriend I don't really want to get [TS]

00:10:35   anybody else involved at the same time [TS]

00:10:37   it does feel a little bit like being [TS]

00:10:39   obsessed about the continuity and i [TS]

00:10:41   kinda like let it go and it's like well [TS]

00:10:43   you know the extra he knows it's his [TS]

00:10:44   movie this is exactly [TS]

00:10:46   it's an iron and I don't want other [TS]

00:10:48   people in my movie but you know what [TS]

00:10:49   you're telling me about that whole thing [TS]

00:10:51   pepper puts on the math like okay her [TS]

00:10:53   home has just been blown up she's the [TS]

00:10:55   CEO of a major corporation with a [TS]

00:10:56   multi-billion dollar market cap she's on [TS]

00:10:58   the cover of forbes magazine [TS]

00:11:00   you're telling me that while a billion [TS]

00:11:02   people are swimming around trying to [TS]

00:11:03   figure out what the hell just happened [TS]

00:11:04   to that futuristic house no one is going [TS]

00:11:06   to notice the CEO of a major corporation [TS]

00:11:07   just kind of you know standing on the [TS]

00:11:10   edge of a cliff completely unprotected [TS]

00:11:12   with it with a Bushwhacker look on her [TS]

00:11:14   face like there's no panic room that I [TS]

00:11:16   can't believe there was no panic room [TS]

00:11:18   that he didn't just immediately shove [TS]

00:11:19   her into I think panic room went into [TS]

00:11:20   the sea because it's really a little [TS]

00:11:23   that's probable that's true that the the [TS]

00:11:25   little suits let our download suits are [TS]

00:11:28   more important than the girlfriend let's [TS]

00:11:30   be clear about this suit bolts must be [TS]

00:11:32   maintained [TS]

00:11:33   no girls allowed because by the movies [TS]

00:11:34   like all this is what I've been doing [TS]

00:11:35   what I can't sleep I'm you know super [TS]

00:11:37   prepared for any eventuality I'm like [TS]

00:11:39   you obviously weren't prepared for the [TS]

00:11:40   eventual anywhere like your house gets [TS]

00:11:42   blown up with your girlfriend in it [TS]

00:11:43   because and also I mean everyone [TS]

00:11:46   probably knows where Tony Stark lose its [TS]

00:11:48   like you can figure out where Larry [TS]

00:11:50   Ellison lives so it's not really all [TS]

00:11:51   that if I want to know where he lives [TS]

00:11:53   like a blow him up right I do i do like [TS]

00:11:55   that moment that I love that Tony [TS]

00:11:57   Stark's just mouthing off to a again [TS]

00:11:59   this is this two levels were on one [TS]

00:12:00   level the feeling of it i love and then [TS]

00:12:02   there's the logic of it that I go yeah [TS]

00:12:04   okay huh [TS]

00:12:05   because it's like I love Tony Stark [TS]

00:12:06   mouthing off to the Mandarin and be like [TS]

00:12:08   a big terrorist guy here's my home [TS]

00:12:10   address at the same time I don't suspect [TS]

00:12:12   that the Mandarin is out there going I [TS]

00:12:14   wish I knew where Tony Stark's does [TS]

00:12:16   anybody have a copy of the white pages [TS]

00:12:17   not happened as Google Maps work your [TS]

00:12:21   technology is Western and confound air [TS]

00:12:23   is a stop a star maps that's like we [TS]

00:12:25   will take you on a tour of Tony Stark's [TS]

00:12:28   neighborhood right you know that that is [TS]

00:12:30   the case [TS]

00:12:30   iron man was staying out of it though so [TS]

00:12:32   he didn't really he wasn't bringing [TS]

00:12:33   himself into it until he decided hey man [TS]

00:12:36   come get me you are now on my radar so [TS]

00:12:38   you could explain it away that way right [TS]

00:12:41   that the measure it wasn't concerned [TS]

00:12:42   about yeah I man because Iran was doing [TS]

00:12:44   anything anyway so right manner it's [TS]

00:12:45   like I know your address already and [TS]

00:12:48   that's not the point the point is you've [TS]

00:12:49   made you call me out here in my gps yeah [TS]

00:12:52   so I'm going to get you now because you [TS]

00:12:54   mentioned me [TS]

00:12:55   exactly you mentioned the mandarin i [TS]

00:12:57   blow up your house [TS]

00:12:58   yes whatever the Mandarin is accepting [TS]

00:13:01   who she is but yeah yeah so big ben [TS]

00:13:04   kingsley can we talk about Ben Kingsley [TS]

00:13:06   oh god that was funny i think I i think [TS]

00:13:09   this is one of the funniest and best [TS]

00:13:11   surprises I've had a movie in a long [TS]

00:13:12   time which is when I i had several [TS]

00:13:15   points I was like is he real [TS]

00:13:17   is he real and there's a scene that they [TS]

00:13:20   set it up where he cut kinda comes in [TS]

00:13:22   and says well what are we waiting for [TS]

00:13:24   and you're like oh the master is coming [TS]

00:13:25   we must oh yes the master and he swoops [TS]

00:13:28   in and I thought maybe he is real and [TS]

00:13:30   then of course it is revealed [TS]

00:13:31   I already blew the spoiler horn so get [TS]

00:13:33   your own damn fault that he's an actor [TS]

00:13:35   being paid to be the Mandarin and he's [TS]

00:13:38   actually kind of like a stoner out of [TS]

00:13:41   luck English actor named Trevor who has [TS]

00:13:44   been fun things on the street that no [TS]

00:13:46   man should have to do [TS]

00:13:47   who says that he's been told that that [TS]

00:13:49   it's all an act except the you know the [TS]

00:13:52   metroid like shot he shoots a guy in the [TS]

00:13:54   head or basically at one point on TV was [TS]

00:13:58   he told those for special effects I [TS]

00:13:59   don't [TS]

00:14:00   trevor is not the sharpest tool in the [TS]

00:14:01   shed again Trevor's not so trustworthy [TS]

00:14:03   so I have a feeling tremors just lying [TS]

00:14:05   and saying you're silly stark wants to [TS]

00:14:07   hear everything go here it was [TS]

00:14:09   delightful that was just such a nice [TS]

00:14:10   nice subversion of the the usual [TS]

00:14:14   mastermind thing I actually expected him [TS]

00:14:16   to to fit to flip back like he was to [TS]

00:14:19   trick them into thinking this guy only [TS]

00:14:22   to revert to being oh yeah I didn't you [TS]

00:14:24   know [TS]

00:14:24   maniacal billion master my kept waiting [TS]

00:14:26   for that too i was like when is it going [TS]

00:14:28   to happen what's gonna happen but they [TS]

00:14:29   it and I think they knew I think the [TS]

00:14:32   script actually has a few moments when [TS]

00:14:34   they're in miami in that compound where [TS]

00:14:37   they have him do increasingly outrageous [TS]

00:14:38   things specifically so that you're like [TS]

00:14:41   okay this is really just this guy you [TS]

00:14:43   know he's he's played so much for last [TS]

00:14:45   because I kept waiting for that double [TS]

00:14:46   back to was like no this is all it my [TS]

00:14:49   game to make you think I was an actor no [TS]

00:14:51   he's just a nun you know unemployed [TS]

00:14:53   actor there is a bit of foreshadowing [TS]

00:14:54   that where they explain what management [TS]

00:14:57   means they think they say it means the [TS]

00:14:59   Chinese word for somebody who serves the [TS]

00:15:01   King servant of the Kings on something [TS]

00:15:04   like that i forget the exact thing [TS]

00:15:06   ok yeah that good I thought about that [TS]

00:15:08   afterwards where I just probably a lot [TS]

00:15:11   of hints that you know he's not going to [TS]

00:15:13   turn out to be the guy you think he is [TS]

00:15:14   yeah but so so good and kingsley you [TS]

00:15:17   know he does a lot of these you know [TS]

00:15:19   paycheck movies right where he is where [TS]

00:15:21   he's in it you know he's a heavy and he [TS]

00:15:24   and everyone god no right but that's [TS]

00:15:26   alright and this one it's nice because [TS]

00:15:29   because he's got that spin on it that [TS]

00:15:32   just take I mean it's just so funny that [TS]

00:15:34   he's getting his got actually got this [TS]

00:15:35   English accent and it's yeah it's I was [TS]

00:15:39   so nervous about that character is a [TS]

00:15:41   it's a goofy character [TS]

00:15:42   yeah be kinda racist yeah a little bit [TS]

00:15:46   yet but it was so over-the-top in the [TS]

00:15:47   previews [TS]

00:15:48   yeah that was wondering how the hell [TS]

00:15:51   that was all going to fit together so i [TS]

00:15:52   think that they did a really good job [TS]

00:15:54   well the mandarin no mandarin is a [TS]

00:15:56   legendary and I feel like Scott said [TS]

00:15:58   kind of raisins kinda a little character [TS]

00:16:01   from the Iron Man comics but you know [TS]

00:16:02   which were very you know when they [TS]

00:16:04   started that is very cold war kind of [TS]

00:16:06   comic and that and the and I think you [TS]

00:16:10   know it was a Korean War post Korean [TS]

00:16:13   war-era so you know Chinese mysticism [TS]

00:16:16   and the ten rings of power and all of [TS]

00:16:18   that and there was always that question [TS]

00:16:19   like how do you do that because that's [TS]

00:16:21   the that's the Iron Man's like that's [TS]

00:16:23   his big enemy right i mean this is a [TS]

00:16:26   character from the comics that although [TS]

00:16:28   he's sort of interesting he doesn't [TS]

00:16:29   really have a great rogue's gallery and [TS]

00:16:31   and there was the Mandarin they're like [TS]

00:16:32   how great are one rogues gallery guy and [TS]

00:16:35   he's a horrible racist stereotype what [TS]

00:16:37   do we do so in the in the first ironman [TS]

00:16:39   they're like their references to the [TS]

00:16:40   Mandarin and the rings of power but it's [TS]

00:16:42   all just kind of like pushed to the back [TS]

00:16:43   and they took a bunch of that out i [TS]

00:16:45   guess when they were when they were [TS]

00:16:46   shooting it they they they dialed it [TS]

00:16:49   down in here terrorist group is called [TS]

00:16:51   the ten rings yeah 10 rings and and [TS]

00:16:53   that's about all you say so here we see [TS]

00:16:55   the Mandarin and they're like how are [TS]

00:16:56   they going to handle this and they have [TS]

00:16:57   him they haven't become a generic and he [TS]

00:16:59   speaks with an American accent which I [TS]

00:17:00   actually thought was really creepy it's [TS]

00:17:02   like what if Osama bin Laden was doing [TS]

00:17:04   these terrorists video speaking in [TS]

00:17:06   American English clear American accents [TS]

00:17:08   like it's that's really kind of [TS]

00:17:10   disconcerting and creepy and then uh and [TS]

00:17:13   then they subvert the whole thing which [TS]

00:17:14   is kind of brilliant because i think [TS]

00:17:15   that's about all they could do in some [TS]

00:17:17   ways with the Mandarin [TS]

00:17:18   he's not to really do the Mandarin is [TS]

00:17:22   not something you can do in the modern [TS]

00:17:23   day because that's just such a kind of [TS]

00:17:25   weird and racist character so they did [TS]

00:17:29   the right thing i think i would guess [TS]

00:17:32   what I Pierce is the actual power behind [TS]

00:17:35   the the the face and I do love that this [TS]

00:17:39   movie talks about the media you know use [TS]

00:17:42   of the media by terrorists and and [TS]

00:17:44   another group so I think that's a really [TS]

00:17:45   nice little bit that they have this we [TS]

00:17:47   spent some time in the TV studio and [TS]

00:17:49   they've got a logo and they've got all [TS]

00:17:50   this stuff and then you discover that [TS]

00:17:52   it's really it's so well produced that [TS]

00:17:54   even the guy it is an actor but behind [TS]

00:17:56   behind that is guy pearce who we we [TS]

00:17:58   first meet in this interesting flashback [TS]

00:18:02   essentially to 1999 in Switzerland where [TS]

00:18:06   Tony Stark speaking speaking at a [TS]

00:18:08   conference we get a little cameo by [TS]

00:18:11   inson who's the guy who helps them build [TS]

00:18:13   the armor in the first movie which was [TS]

00:18:15   really nice he dies immediately and [TS]

00:18:17   movies like hey he said that he met him [TS]

00:18:19   once right Mary was that was really nice [TS]

00:18:21   and then there's then and then he also [TS]

00:18:24   meets Guy Pearce who is channeling john [TS]

00:18:28   grise role as last little holy felled [TS]

00:18:32   from real genius in his first he was not [TS]

00:18:35   the suavity is all the suavity of Laszlo [TS]

00:18:38   be as well he's the last know who's [TS]

00:18:40   excited about entering the frito-lay [TS]

00:18:42   sweepstakes and as often as you like so [TS]

00:18:44   i have right that's that's that guy and [TS]

00:18:46   I'm saying is that last low know it's [TS]

00:18:48   guy pearce playing Laszlo who to get [TS]

00:18:51   stony in an elevator and says I've got [TS]

00:18:53   this great invention and tony is too [TS]

00:18:55   much focused on the girl scientists [TS]

00:18:58   woman very talented but he's really [TS]

00:19:00   focused on getting her into his hotel [TS]

00:19:02   room [TS]

00:19:03   he's not terribly interested in her big [TS]

00:19:04   brain Oh Tony no brain is not tony you [TS]

00:19:09   know he knows how to pick them right so [TS]

00:19:11   so in the end what we find out is that [TS]

00:19:14   the guy pearce has gone on some sort of [TS]

00:19:16   well we think he's got an exercise [TS]

00:19:18   program it turns out he's gone like a [TS]

00:19:20   crazy biotech program where he's turned [TS]

00:19:23   into this super suave kind of guy who's [TS]

00:19:26   actually got extremist nanobots or [TS]

00:19:30   whatever they are in his body [TS]

00:19:32   and he's the evil genius behind the [TS]

00:19:34   movie with so i guess the lesson here is [TS]

00:19:35   if some nerdy guy who looks like Lassa [TS]

00:19:38   Lassa from real genius corners you in an [TS]

00:19:41   elevator in Switzerland don't tell him [TS]

00:19:44   that you'll meet him on the roof and [TS]

00:19:45   then not show because he'll be mad and [TS]

00:19:48   he'll hold a grudge [TS]

00:19:48   this could have all been prevented [TS]

00:19:50   really just go to the roof [TS]

00:19:52   Tony which is five min heart and say I'm [TS]

00:19:54   calling you call him take his call he [TS]

00:19:56   takes his card thank you cards takes you [TS]

00:19:58   into the but then he gives them away he [TS]

00:20:01   does the douche move there is a glossy [TS]

00:20:02   and five minutes and then hold them up i [TS]

00:20:04   think if you just taking the cards and [TS]

00:20:06   like look obviously I have my hands full [TS]

00:20:08   I'll have my people call your people you [TS]

00:20:10   because you have no people but yeah [TS]

00:20:12   oh don't call you that one of the movie [TS]

00:20:14   that's true that's true and guy pearce [TS]

00:20:16   would not have become mr. extremist at [TS]

00:20:19   the rebecca hall character was pretty [TS]

00:20:21   into extremist to begin with so she [TS]

00:20:23   would have hooked up with somebody [TS]

00:20:25   that's true and she she had I've got [TS]

00:20:27   this great technology when plants [TS]

00:20:29   explode [TS]

00:20:30   re the spontaneous combustion of plants [TS]

00:20:33   where we're okay um yeah but what I want [TS]

00:20:36   to know is he apparently so he [TS]

00:20:37   apparently solves this you know he [TS]

00:20:39   solves the problem that causes a [TS]

00:20:41   spontaneous combustion like you get the [TS]

00:20:43   illusion that he halfway solved it in a [TS]

00:20:46   hungover Hayes back in 1999 / 2010 he [TS]

00:20:50   solves it for real what he's got [TS]

00:20:51   motivation with pepper and I thought you [TS]

00:20:54   know we always think there's always this [TS]

00:20:55   big deal being made in the Marvel vs. [TS]

00:20:56   that Hank Pym is is kind of a number two [TS]

00:20:58   and in terms of intellect and there are [TS]

00:21:00   plenty of other smart guys you're [TS]

00:21:01   telling me that she couldn't have found [TS]

00:21:02   another guy 2222 monkey with this [TS]

00:21:05   weather especially since they still own [TS]

00:21:06   the rights to that she couldn't it would [TS]

00:21:08   have been nice if they had mentioned in [TS]

00:21:09   passing well I gave it to pin but it was [TS]

00:21:11   useless all he came out of it was an [TS]

00:21:12   ability to control amps you know that [TS]

00:21:14   denies nice toss away i think i liked [TS]

00:21:16   his company was a more advanced idea [TS]

00:21:18   mechanics yeah oh yeah that was a big ol [TS]

00:21:20   he that's a nice comic yeah shout out [TS]

00:21:23   like to get to have a name without [TS]

00:21:24   having MODOK and those guys with at the [TS]

00:21:26   crazy hands is just that it's kind of a [TS]

00:21:28   he [TS]

00:21:29   yeah that's good he said Noah and it's [TS]

00:21:33   the rolling their eyes like OMG sure [TS]

00:21:35   whatever ya advanced idea mechanics my [TS]

00:21:38   acronym yeah good [TS]

00:21:39   that's nice for you yes you've got an [TS]

00:21:42   acronym [TS]

00:21:43   Oh [TS]

00:21:44   how great for you so so i liked i really [TS]

00:21:48   like the first like 90 minutes of this [TS]

00:21:52   movie I I i like the beginning with the [TS]

00:21:55   you know we had a flashback and then we [TS]

00:21:57   get the we have the the attacks and and [TS]

00:22:00   we get the the attack on his house and [TS]

00:22:03   we get him ending up in Tennessee [TS]

00:22:04   talking to the kid and there's some [TS]

00:22:06   really nice stuff i mean obviously in [TS]

00:22:08   the middle of this movie the whole he [TS]

00:22:10   gets out of the suit for a long period [TS]

00:22:12   of time and clearly what this movie is [TS]

00:22:14   saying is tony is more interesting than [TS]

00:22:17   the cgi armor which i think is a good [TS]

00:22:19   call i think that was the problem number [TS]

00:22:21   two is it was a lot of robert downey jr [TS]

00:22:23   staring at the screen inside the Machine [TS]

00:22:25   and Allah GI it was really boring [TS]

00:22:27   well and at the end and number and and [TS]

00:22:29   the first 12 I mean anytime we're at CGI [TS]

00:22:31   monster vs cgi hero and it's like you [TS]

00:22:35   might as well be watching a video game [TS]

00:22:37   this is also my problem with them the [TS]

00:22:40   first spider-man movie the Sam Raimi's [TS]

00:22:42   spider-man movie is the end the end [TS]

00:22:43   confrontation is between spider-man [TS]

00:22:45   wearing his mask and the Green Goblin [TS]

00:22:47   wearing his little like Power Rangers [TS]

00:22:49   mask and you it and they might as well [TS]

00:22:51   be you know it you're watching an [TS]

00:22:53   episode of Power Rangers you can't see [TS]

00:22:55   their mouths moving it's just there's [TS]

00:22:57   nothing there so here they get out of [TS]

00:22:59   the suit and they make input and they [TS]

00:23:01   put him in danger where he has to use [TS]

00:23:02   his intelligence which we've been told [TS]

00:23:04   he's really brilliant right to figure [TS]

00:23:06   out how to get out of it and I thought [TS]

00:23:08   that was a great decision i thought that [TS]

00:23:10   was really smart [TS]

00:23:11   yeah I mean there's maybe 45 minutes [TS]

00:23:14   over MacGyver episode like that movie [TS]

00:23:17   Tony Stark mechanical genius right [TS]

00:23:20   you know the mechanic mechanic again [TS]

00:23:22   like the you know the classic let's make [TS]

00:23:25   the gas tank explode and I just say I [TS]

00:23:28   liked I liked him using his words to [TS]

00:23:30   write vaidya extremist soldiers [TS]

00:23:33   yeah although Tennessee there was like [TS]

00:23:35   one person with a southern accent and [TS]

00:23:37   Tennessee which was that was crazy but i [TS]

00:23:41   like that i like i like the kid which he [TS]

00:23:43   meets he meets a Harley who's the kid [TS]

00:23:45   who will wear it never gets it like it's [TS]

00:23:48   right on the precipice of being that [TS]

00:23:50   really treacly oh you know he learns how [TS]

00:23:53   to open it hard for the child and all [TS]

00:23:55   that and they don't go there they don't [TS]

00:23:57   they [TS]

00:23:57   don't go over the edge right didn't you [TS]

00:24:00   it's like you can tell that he does [TS]

00:24:02   really love the kid i'm cold you know i [TS]

00:24:04   do that work and yeah yeah yeah very [TS]

00:24:10   that's all good and I like the action [TS]

00:24:11   sequence in the in the the whatever is [TS]

00:24:14   the diner or the restaurant or something [TS]

00:24:16   where there's that with the extremist [TS]

00:24:17   agents come in and he's trying to figure [TS]

00:24:19   out how to you know again MacGyver it [TS]

00:24:22   you're exactly right he's like wow how [TS]

00:24:23   can i go i can blow them up using this [TS]

00:24:25   and and and makes it all i'm gonna open [TS]

00:24:28   up the gas main and they're gonna ignite [TS]

00:24:30   it and all of that and I really I really [TS]

00:24:31   I liked all of that because the whole [TS]

00:24:33   point there is that this is supposed to [TS]

00:24:35   be about Tony and not about the suit and [TS]

00:24:38   and right and you got Robert Downey jr. [TS]

00:24:41   and obviously Shane Black who co-wrote [TS]

00:24:43   the screenplay and directed the movie [TS]

00:24:44   and directed Downey and kiss kiss bang [TS]

00:24:46   bang which is a with get val kilmer [TS]

00:24:49   which is a great movie by the way I [TS]

00:24:51   don't know if you guys yes love that [TS]

00:24:53   great movie [TS]

00:24:54   oh yes and so he knows to get down out [TS]

00:24:57   of it to get down out of this cgi shell [TS]

00:24:59   and have downey be running around [TS]

00:25:02   himself because he's he's great and so [TS]

00:25:05   the script does that and and i love that [TS]

00:25:08   I love the whole bit in tennessee i love [TS]

00:25:10   that he's he's almost immediately made [TS]

00:25:13   vulnerable because you know Tony being [TS]

00:25:15   kind of a jerk and this rich playboy guy [TS]

00:25:18   or in this case being a shut-in who's [TS]

00:25:21   freaked out about the adventures avenges [TS]

00:25:24   made a billion dollars i don't know what [TS]

00:25:25   I do next [TS]

00:25:26   I'm just gonna stay down here and [TS]

00:25:27   they're gonna have to come and get me [TS]

00:25:28   for the next movie is basically what [TS]

00:25:30   he's doing down there but you get amount [TS]

00:25:32   of that and then and then suddenly it's [TS]

00:25:34   surprising in how good it is being him [TS]

00:25:38   you know the adventures of Tony Stark [TS]

00:25:39   guy without a guy without a suit [TS]

00:25:41   basically did anybody else find it to [TS]

00:25:44   post-traumatic stress stuff a little bit [TS]

00:25:47   weird like it kind of comes out of [TS]

00:25:49   nowhere and it kind of goes nowhere last [TS]

00:25:52   time we saw him he was just having sure [TS]

00:25:53   man he was fine yeah but he didn't seem [TS]

00:25:55   that battle that during that movie I [TS]

00:25:57   don't know since he spent a lot of iron [TS]

00:25:59   man two being kind of a jerk for aught [TS]

00:26:01   account of the palladium poisoning [TS]

00:26:03   it seems like they were putting down the [TS]

00:26:05   seeds for Tony Stark perhaps not your [TS]

00:26:08   most emotional adjusted superhero [TS]

00:26:10   sure and the fact that the wormhole [TS]

00:26:12   appears to be his trigger in this 1i I [TS]

00:26:14   think what we're supposed to take away [TS]

00:26:17   from that is he has finally run into [TS]

00:26:18   something he can't out think or out talk [TS]

00:26:20   his way around and it has freedom right [TS]

00:26:23   the eff out it's not the Norse God who [TS]

00:26:24   does it it's not the rage monster or or [TS]

00:26:27   the cry or the cryogenic fossil he works [TS]

00:26:29   with it yes something about that woman [TS]

00:26:30   would just flip them out [TS]

00:26:32   yeah yeah because it warps space and [TS]

00:26:34   time and he's seeing things no [TS]

00:26:35   management to see eccentric cetera [TS]

00:26:37   well anyway he did have a nuclear [TS]

00:26:39   warhead that he was carrying and almost [TS]

00:26:41   got blown up by a circulator don't know [TS]

00:26:45   I agree that i would be featured a trip [TS]

00:26:47   yeah i think the reason you gotta show [TS]

00:26:49   this is the same reason is the same [TS]

00:26:51   reason you do anything along that line [TS]

00:26:54   I remember one time I had I had foot [TS]

00:26:56   surgery where we arrange the bones of my [TS]

00:26:57   toes and the first thing i did [TS]

00:26:58   afterwards go get a blizzard from Dairy [TS]

00:27:00   Queen and it wasn't until I got home [TS]

00:27:02   that it really hit me that holy crap [TS]

00:27:03   pardon my language i just watched my [TS]

00:27:05   that the bones inside my toes get [TS]

00:27:06   rearranged and that's when the shit [TS]

00:27:08   that's when the shaking the freaking out [TS]

00:27:09   happened and I think this was kind of on [TS]

00:27:11   the same scale where you have the [TS]

00:27:12   shawarma you're like so that was a thing [TS]

00:27:14   and ya then ya once once you know Thor [TS]

00:27:17   takes his brother back to to Asgard for [TS]

00:27:21   whatever the equivalent of juvenile [TS]

00:27:22   detention is that happens that that's [TS]

00:27:24   when you finally realize that wow that [TS]

00:27:26   was a thing that just happened and I [TS]

00:27:28   can't make any of that up and oh my god [TS]

00:27:31   this trip and Tony Stark has never he's [TS]

00:27:34   not like a superheroic generally like [TS]

00:27:37   you don't have the right guy is coming [TS]

00:27:39   out to America and Hulk is just about [TS]

00:27:41   the break things as long as a god and [TS]

00:27:44   the other people who were really a movie [TS]

00:27:46   right there there there preying on his [TS]

00:27:48   altar stated that paid very well yeah [TS]

00:27:50   exactly so you know he is fragile and [TS]

00:27:53   he's not he's not expecting this kind of [TS]

00:27:56   thing and it's like I bought it and I [TS]

00:27:57   thought it was really interesting kind [TS]

00:28:00   of obviously made him vulnerable and [TS]

00:28:02   really highlight the fact that he's just [TS]

00:28:04   a guy in a suit so you know he's he's [TS]

00:28:06   just like us [TS]

00:28:07   so he's a believer yeah yeah really [TS]

00:28:09   small but steady the poor billionaire [TS]

00:28:11   genius it i didn't see it was off itself [TS]

00:28:13   like the the last thing we hear about it [TS]

00:28:14   is a roadie says here right before they [TS]

00:28:17   attack on the extremist guys at the [TS]

00:28:20   docks write the book of allah in the cop [TS]

00:28:22   my good buddy movie in thing yeah that [TS]

00:28:25   laser weapon let's just say it's likely [TS]

00:28:26   lethal weapon comes back boxtrolls are [TS]

00:28:29   you getting too old for this stuff [TS]

00:28:30   yeah that's the difference also don [TS]

00:28:33   cheadle those movies like he shows up in [TS]

00:28:34   that flawlessly iron polo shirt and it's [TS]

00:28:38   just adorable because it's like a look [TS]

00:28:40   at San LOL being catalog model come to [TS]

00:28:42   jackson tension on the side of the neck [TS]

00:28:43   I love don cheadle watchman pretty much [TS]

00:28:46   anything yeah but that's that's the end [TS]

00:28:48   of the PTSD stuff right is Brody turns [TS]

00:28:50   to him and says I hope you don't freak [TS]

00:28:52   out and Tony says me too and then guess [TS]

00:28:55   what no more freaked out you know insane [TS]

00:28:57   stuffs happening but then at the the [TS]

00:28:59   end-credit Peggy he's talking to his [TS]

00:29:02   face Bruce batteries like you know about [TS]

00:29:04   all these issues so one can imagine that [TS]

00:29:06   he still work having yeah but he had to [TS]

00:29:09   he overcame it because he wanted to save [TS]

00:29:11   pepper potts but he's talking about it [TS]

00:29:12   now right [TS]

00:29:13   he's working through it worse before he [TS]

00:29:15   was like curled up in a ball in his [TS]

00:29:16   basement building soon as building suit [TS]

00:29:18   a suit for a rainy day but what I do [TS]

00:29:22   wonder is if Bruce Banner rather Mark [TS]

00:29:27   Ruffalo's performance that Bruce Banner [TS]

00:29:28   hadn't been the big breakout surprise [TS]

00:29:31   over this movie if they had been like [TS]

00:29:34   wow that back to play store bought some [TS]

00:29:36   gravitas and tragedy if it wouldn't be [TS]

00:29:38   him like you know having some sort of [TS]

00:29:39   Asgardian phone call with Thor while [TS]

00:29:41   Thor eats a turkey leg and truly tony [TS]

00:29:43   was frightening [TS]

00:29:44   um some meat and Jamie have some meat [TS]

00:29:47   will be better [TS]

00:29:48   well I i think one of the highlights for [TS]

00:29:50   me of the Avengers was that relationship [TS]

00:29:52   between them that they really was like [TS]

00:29:54   Tony's gravitating toward the the you [TS]

00:29:56   know it's like hey here's a guy who's [TS]

00:29:58   you know another smart guy and he's got [TS]

00:30:01   issues and I've got issues in the end [TS]

00:30:03   they had that kind of thing I mean the [TS]

00:30:04   end up like driving off together so you [TS]

00:30:06   get the sense that the Powell so it's [TS]

00:30:07   like a nice i thought it was the right [TS]

00:30:08   payback [TS]

00:30:09   you better pay off from the adventures [TS]

00:30:11   of like of course they're buddies we saw [TS]

00:30:13   that they were gonna be buddies there [TS]

00:30:14   buddy easy accepted but he's not don't [TS]

00:30:16   be in my movie just be after the credits [TS]

00:30:18   i want to talk to you about when i'm [TS]

00:30:19   done with my movies don't help me during [TS]

00:30:21   my movie Iron Man and honk right i just [TS]

00:30:24   watch that again last night actually no [TS]

00:30:26   actually I watched every single minute [TS]

00:30:29   of the road energy and playing Iron Man [TS]

00:30:31   yesterday huh [TS]

00:30:32   Wow [TS]

00:30:33   this preparation yeah i did my did my [TS]

00:30:35   research on so yeah I'd love that the [TS]

00:30:39   interaction between banner and stark [TS]

00:30:40   this project it's good it's it's it's a [TS]

00:30:43   good place to have a long working [TS]

00:30:45   history too because they made that movie [TS]

00:30:46   about the Zodiac killer together and I [TS]

00:30:48   want to see there's something else they [TS]

00:30:50   did I Ruffalo and down [TS]

00:30:52   yeah yeah Ruffalo and Danny work [TS]

00:30:54   together before so i think that they [TS]

00:30:56   kind of were like okay let's play with [TS]

00:30:58   this is how we're gonna do it and both [TS]

00:31:00   of them like their energies are couple [TS]

00:31:01   complimentary if that makes sense you [TS]

00:31:03   know so that the part of this movie that [TS]

00:31:05   i didn't really love is um is that last [TS]

00:31:09   action set piece on the oil tanker all [TS]

00:31:12   of that the deus ex the deus ex machina [TS]

00:31:14   literally yeah yeah yeah yeah I've got [TS]

00:31:18   some suits he does have 45 suits all I [TS]

00:31:21   could think was hello action think it's [TS]

00:31:23   like the obligatory is true action [TS]

00:31:25   climax so they do try to keep him out of [TS]

00:31:28   the suit for a lot of it handily jumping [TS]

00:31:30   in to suit the suit gets blown up but he [TS]

00:31:32   jumps out of it may be just another suit [TS]

00:31:34   but it's hard to follow and it it's [TS]

00:31:37   kinda it feels tacked on right it's like [TS]

00:31:40   why are they there and why is the [TS]

00:31:41   president string of diamonds the large [TS]

00:31:44   and nights in the armor and it for [TS]

00:31:47   because they're gonna show him on TV I [TS]

00:31:49   mean it just it that that's where again [TS]

00:31:52   i like this movie i would i would say I [TS]

00:31:54   i really enjoyed watching this movie [TS]

00:31:56   that would be my big criticism of it is [TS]

00:31:59   that last thing it felt like somebody [TS]

00:32:01   said look it you're a big summer action [TS]

00:32:04   tentpole you have to have a blowout cgi [TS]

00:32:06   fight scene at the end and I would [TS]

00:32:09   almost rather it been like a smaller [TS]

00:32:12   scale showdown with the guy pearce and [TS]

00:32:16   the other extremist people rather than I [TS]

00:32:19   mean it's cool to have like 40 Iron Man [TS]

00:32:22   armors flying around but it's hard to [TS]

00:32:24   track like a nice idea but on the screen [TS]

00:32:26   it's like I don't know what i'm watching [TS]

00:32:28   and what you're just gonna have to buy [TS]

00:32:30   all of the action figures because i'm [TS]

00:32:31   pretty sure there's gonna be one sure [TS]

00:32:33   single one where you can find out how [TS]

00:32:34   this is all 23 years for hands well more [TS]

00:32:37   than 25 exactly at and in a movie that [TS]

00:32:40   was really all about the human scale [TS]

00:32:42   that was also the really during thing [TS]

00:32:43   about it is in the end there's this [TS]

00:32:44   thing that has no human scale at all [TS]

00:32:47   then I guess what happens with Gwyneth [TS]

00:32:48   Paltrow which which i kinda like that [TS]

00:32:50   she got fed with the extremist stuff and [TS]

00:32:52   so she phoned the oh well i like i like [TS]

00:32:55   that she popped fell into the pit and [TS]

00:32:56   then comes back out and have a [TS]

00:32:58   conversation with Tony really what I'm I [TS]

00:33:00   just because I dropped into the the [TS]

00:33:03   fiery pit you thought I was dead i got [TS]

00:33:05   the stuff in me at least that was human [TS]

00:33:07   I guess is what I'm saying I'm not sure [TS]

00:33:08   I like that the fact that guy Pearce's [TS]

00:33:10   injecting her with extremist and all of [TS]

00:33:12   that but it was fine but that was like [TS]

00:33:15   at least that was human scale the rest [TS]

00:33:17   of it was just robots flying around and [TS]

00:33:19   the group there's another robot okay and [TS]

00:33:21   he just didn't that that was it was let [TS]

00:33:23   down i didn't make me not like the movie [TS]

00:33:25   but it was like an unnecessary just like [TS]

00:33:28   like you had three or four desserts and [TS]

00:33:30   somebody said never escape like I don't [TS]

00:33:32   need me cake sorry i say more robot cake [TS]

00:33:35   cake [TS]

00:33:36   not only did was there are so many [TS]

00:33:38   robots and so much more suits and stuff [TS]

00:33:41   going on you couldn't follow the battle [TS]

00:33:44   we don't like the reason the Star Wars [TS]

00:33:45   battles generally work as you can kind [TS]

00:33:47   of well not the not the people's [TS]

00:33:49   business division in the original ones [TS]

00:33:51   like this like that so yeah so I don't [TS]

00:33:53   want to get the story i'll try to avoid [TS]

00:33:54   this is my first time on the show I got [TS]

00:33:56   a touchdown ever wanna talk about Doctor [TS]

00:33:58   Who in a minute okay around its that you [TS]

00:34:01   know the trench run makes sense you can [TS]

00:34:03   you can kind of tell it's happening with [TS]

00:34:04   this battle [TS]

00:34:05   no idea I have no idea what's happening [TS]

00:34:08   yeah so having all those things just [TS]

00:34:11   flying around an exploding the [TS]

00:34:12   background it it made the trains [TS]

00:34:14   unreadable to me it's a direction it's a [TS]

00:34:17   director thing and I got to say one of [TS]

00:34:19   the things i think the joss whedon did a [TS]

00:34:20   good job in the Avengers and somebody [TS]

00:34:22   would only directed one feature film [TS]

00:34:24   before is that the action is [TS]

00:34:25   understandable I I realize it may not be [TS]

00:34:28   logical that they're sort of like the [TS]

00:34:30   guys on gliders doing laps in New York [TS]

00:34:32   and their the whales that are doing laps [TS]

00:34:34   in New York and but you kind of know [TS]

00:34:36   where everybody is and why they're doing [TS]

00:34:39   what they're doing and it went when you [TS]

00:34:41   can't express that as a director your [TS]

00:34:44   audience gets confused and that happened [TS]

00:34:46   in this just like in a in the dark [TS]

00:34:48   knight actually whether those scenes [TS]

00:34:50   where he's got like where Batman's got [TS]

00:34:52   his like radar vision and there's like [TS]

00:34:55   the dark the and there's like the dark [TS]

00:34:59   missed our office tower that's got guys [TS]

00:35:00   in it and i SAT there for 20 minutes [TS]

00:35:02   going i had no idea what I'm even [TS]

00:35:03   looking at here it's just like fighting [TS]

00:35:05   and blowing up and I I where are we why [TS]

00:35:07   are we here now it's going to sweat it [TS]

00:35:09   the hostages have been swamped with yeah [TS]

00:35:11   exactly exactly [TS]

00:35:13   it's really beautiful it's just bad i [TS]

00:35:15   mean it's like bad action directing and [TS]

00:35:16   I know that's kind of obscure but it's [TS]

00:35:18   like you're making an action movie and [TS]

00:35:19   like Shane Black good screenwriter did a [TS]

00:35:22   good job with all the down any kind of [TS]

00:35:23   level stuff then he gets to the set [TS]

00:35:25   piece and it's just like there are too [TS]

00:35:26   many moving parts and I don't really [TS]

00:35:28   know what's going on and it kind of [TS]

00:35:31   feels like it doesn't matter and yeah [TS]

00:35:33   it's just yeah it's a it's like a e it [TS]

00:35:38   could have been done better I i would [TS]

00:35:40   argue that it didn't need to be this big [TS]

00:35:42   thing but it certainly could have been [TS]

00:35:44   executed better and it wasn't so it's [TS]

00:35:46   like I don't know what I'm looking at it [TS]

00:35:47   just wasn't ready i'm an extremist book [TS]

00:35:50   his first encounter with the extremist [TS]

00:35:52   guy is awesome it's like pretty just [TS]

00:35:55   Toto and it's just a major beatdown [TS]

00:35:59   yeah like it's like not it's it's [TS]

00:36:02   country like it suits failing on the [TS]

00:36:04   time like the guys eat doesn't expect [TS]

00:36:07   the guy to be that powerful kind of [TS]

00:36:08   stuff and it it's just really basic and [TS]

00:36:10   it really works and like that and that's [TS]

00:36:12   in here right it's like the his [TS]

00:36:14   confrontation with Guy Pearce where he's [TS]

00:36:16   melting the suit and he has to jump out [TS]

00:36:18   and all that that's kind of interesting [TS]

00:36:19   but it is combined with this crazy like [TS]

00:36:22   a beehive swarm of of iron man suits and [TS]

00:36:26   other extremist people when does it come [TS]

00:36:28   out when things were getting blown up [TS]

00:36:30   and there were 200 civilians there as [TS]

00:36:32   well as Tony right JD number of things [TS]

00:36:35   because that's the thing that I kept [TS]

00:36:37   going back to his is oh oh so now he's [TS]

00:36:39   ok with this is but when things were [TS]

00:36:41   getting blown up and he's freaking out [TS]

00:36:42   over his girlfriend possibly getting [TS]

00:36:44   crushed by all the concrete and glass [TS]

00:36:45   and oh by the way we just the way they [TS]

00:36:48   explain that away is that it got it got [TS]

00:36:50   like covered and and and there's that [TS]

00:36:52   scene where they like the cream is like [TS]

00:36:53   all right now we have uncovered the door [TS]

00:36:56   and in the right where it's like until [TS]

00:36:58   that moment the suit little secret [TS]

00:37:01   panic room hatch with all the suits in [TS]

00:37:03   it because again prioritize the suits [TS]

00:37:05   that's the most important thing to say [TS]

00:37:06   yeah is it and until that moment it's [TS]

00:37:10   like a cutaway of like oh good it's now [TS]

00:37:12   available [TS]

00:37:12   all-access actually yeah I just to have [TS]

00:37:17   a camera point I enjoyed that scene and [TS]

00:37:20   that's that piece just because it was so [TS]

00:37:22   ridiculous i'm going to a summer movie [TS]

00:37:26   about a billionaire genius who can build [TS]

00:37:29   45 suits of armor in his basement i [TS]

00:37:32   expect to see every suit of armor haha [TS]

00:37:34   and i did so kudos to them [TS]

00:37:38   yeah but you didn't have much of it was [TS]

00:37:39   just a blur it's just the execution [TS]

00:37:41   right it's like it's like there's that [TS]

00:37:42   thing where there's the one suit that's [TS]

00:37:44   like really heavy and just kind of like [TS]

00:37:45   runs and slams into you and his hammers [TS]

00:37:49   on its arms and stuff it's like wow that [TS]

00:37:50   was cool but it's like where did it come [TS]

00:37:52   from why was it there i'd like to get [TS]

00:37:54   there if it's really heavy came from [TS]

00:37:56   tony's time spring yeah i know i just i [TS]

00:37:58   like the idea i like the idea just the [TS]

00:38:01   execution did it get fruit and sprang [TS]

00:38:07   from his forehead fully far [TS]

00:38:09   yeah exactly there's an iron man who is [TS]

00:38:11   also a beer keg I think because Tony you [TS]

00:38:13   know likes to drink so we just built one [TS]

00:38:15   that's so the thing is if you if you [TS]

00:38:17   read two books a lot of those suits in [TS]

00:38:19   the books there did not realize this was [TS]

00:38:21   based on a novel by the way [TS]

00:38:23   well sorry okay really gonna be that [TS]

00:38:26   snotty that's not your dirty show can [TS]

00:38:29   accept the comic is a book it's not [TS]

00:38:31   Scott they're just graphic novels sweet [TS]

00:38:34   it's not about 18th century New York [TS]

00:38:36   detectives I know it's another well be [TS]

00:38:38   awesome if the 18th century New York [TS]

00:38:40   detective with a suit of iron the people [TS]

00:38:43   that would actually be cool [TS]

00:38:44   yeah that could work out yeah yeah like [TS]

00:38:47   the big the big bulky suit is like a [TS]

00:38:48   Hulkbuster thing that he built in 1.2 [TS]

00:38:51   beat up the Hulk and those variations [TS]

00:38:52   that you've seen in the comics / you [TS]

00:38:55   know over the blades so there's a lot of [TS]

00:38:58   fan service in the shots shredded that [TS]

00:39:00   assembly shot is basically offensive as [TS]

00:39:01   one also you know the we gotta the first [TS]

00:39:05   two movies both of which were very [TS]

00:39:06   successful i thought the first movie was [TS]

00:39:07   great actually like it better than the [TS]

00:39:09   dark knight I thought it was fun i was [TS]

00:39:11   one of the most fun superhero movies [TS]

00:39:13   I've ever seen [TS]

00:39:14   so surprising and enjoyable and I I'd [TS]

00:39:16   loved it i and i still love it that [TS]

00:39:18   that's it's it's a movie that I could [TS]

00:39:20   that I would take somebody who [TS]

00:39:22   would not ever think that they could it [TS]

00:39:24   have fun at a superhero movie and put [TS]

00:39:27   them in front ya think that was pretty [TS]

00:39:28   much my husband that's the litmus test [TS]

00:39:30   for superhero movies what about you [TS]

00:39:32   really take it so iron man 2i think not [TS]

00:39:35   as fun [TS]

00:39:35   I you know will not show that one to [TS]

00:39:37   fill in a bit first time I saw it I [TS]

00:39:39   didn't like it i I've seen it since [TS]

00:39:40   because my kids wanted to see at night [TS]

00:39:41   it's okay but it's really just like it's [TS]

00:39:45   like it's like extra scenes at the end [TS]

00:39:46   of Iron Man 1 it's kind of like not I'm [TS]

00:39:48   not much of a movie but my point here is [TS]

00:39:50   that both of those movies and with a [TS]

00:39:51   confrontation where it's like I have I [TS]

00:39:54   have a suit i also have a suit [TS]

00:39:57   let's fight and and I felt like an iron [TS]

00:39:59   man 3 that in some ways that's what they [TS]

00:40:01   were trying to get away from here is [TS]

00:40:03   just that final confrontation again if [TS]

00:40:06   it would just been guy Pearson robert [TS]

00:40:08   downey jr and it was like biological [TS]

00:40:10   technology biotech vs metal tech that [TS]

00:40:14   would have been interesting would've [TS]

00:40:15   been spectacular like this was but it [TS]

00:40:17   would've been interesting but what they [TS]

00:40:19   didn't want to do is have it literally [TS]

00:40:20   be you know like metal things versus [TS]

00:40:22   metal things again because they did that [TS]

00:40:23   right so there they were trying to do it [TS]

00:40:25   something different with the ending [TS]

00:40:27   because how many times can you have a be [TS]

00:40:29   metal suit versus metal suit for all the [TS]

00:40:31   marbles gets gets really old [TS]

00:40:33   I would have loved to see that so one of [TS]

00:40:36   the reasons i like iron man so much is [TS]

00:40:38   that Scott's gonna like this i'm a huge [TS]

00:40:41   Captain Kirk fan [TS]

00:40:42   oh and android kirat and star trek in [TS]

00:40:46   the enterprise work best when the [TS]

00:40:47   enterprise is totally screwed up and [TS]

00:40:48   rick has to I think his way out of a [TS]

00:40:50   situation you can well either ingenuity [TS]

00:40:52   and I think Tony Stark and Iron Man [TS]

00:40:54   works well for that because unlike other [TS]

00:40:56   superheroes you can't just randomly [TS]

00:40:57   disable it [TS]

00:40:58   their powers right but because the Iron [TS]

00:41:00   Man suit is mr. checky you know [TS]

00:41:03   yeah sure you can put the tech can get [TS]

00:41:05   beaten up and dysfunctional and the the [TS]

00:41:08   character gets less powerful as he gets [TS]

00:41:10   beaten up you know what I mean right and [TS]

00:41:12   so tony has to think his way out of [TS]

00:41:14   situations and I think that they could [TS]

00:41:16   have they had an excellent set up in [TS]

00:41:18   this movie and then it they didn't [TS]

00:41:20   really pay it off because he just kept [TS]

00:41:21   jumping out a suit from suit to suit and [TS]

00:41:23   just the single best scene in iron man [TS]

00:41:25   two is where Tony is completely helpless [TS]

00:41:28   being attacked by Mickey work with his [TS]

00:41:31   crazy whips right yeah [TS]

00:41:34   and a resume and they run and he's [TS]

00:41:36   trying to get away in the the race car [TS]

00:41:37   gets cut in half and all of that and [TS]

00:41:39   then made a he ends up with his little [TS]

00:41:41   suitcase suit and he puts it on and he [TS]

00:41:43   and even then he should be barely makes [TS]

00:41:45   it out but that's a great scene and it's [TS]

00:41:47   a great scene because of that exact [TS]

00:41:48   thing which is that it's not you know [TS]

00:41:51   he--he's in a position of weakness [TS]

00:41:53   he's not exactly what Superman you have [TS]

00:41:55   to have like kryptonite or something [TS]

00:41:56   like that with tony stark it's just like [TS]

00:41:57   oh crap but my suit isn't working or I [TS]

00:42:00   don't have my suit and that's what I [TS]

00:42:01   think that's what I hate it like putting [TS]

00:42:03   on the suit takes planning right takes a [TS]

00:42:05   bit of time it takes some planning and [TS]

00:42:07   that's what I hate about this just added [TS]

00:42:10   to the comic books now too but this [TS]

00:42:12   well the last one saw wherever he is [TS]

00:42:15   this is to pursue pieces will just [TS]

00:42:17   either come out of him or just fly at [TS]

00:42:20   him and yeah it takes away some of the [TS]

00:42:22   danger of being Tony rhetoric and some [TS]

00:42:25   of the interesting controllability of [TS]

00:42:26   the pigs [TS]

00:42:27   thank you in this example back in the [TS]

00:42:28   old Superfriends comics batman the money [TS]

00:42:30   to pay his utility belt he was host and [TS]

00:42:32   that this is sort of that could this is [TS]

00:42:36   sort of the Marvel Universe equivalent [TS]

00:42:37   of that take away this like Batman's [TS]

00:42:40   utility belt is like I never exercised i [TS]

00:42:42   have fun picking i'm talking about [TS]

00:42:44   Superman you got this one right [TS]

00:42:46   I can quit that you detective trying to [TS]

00:42:51   be good at forget that part [TS]

00:42:53   I gotta do I told you about my parents [TS]

00:42:55   yeah my parents the things i like I mean [TS]

00:43:00   I wrote I wrote a piece for my day job [TS]

00:43:02   actually which is a little strange about [TS]

00:43:03   Iron Man and the things that I learned I [TS]

00:43:06   learned from it or glean from iron man 3 [TS]

00:43:08   and and I I touched on some of them [TS]

00:43:10   which is I really like the fact that [TS]

00:43:11   this is a movie about you know I'm as a [TS]

00:43:13   techno superhero and yet this movie is [TS]

00:43:17   actually basically saying the the person [TS]

00:43:19   in the suit is important and more [TS]

00:43:21   important than the technology which I [TS]

00:43:23   really i like that as a theme I like [TS]

00:43:25   again there's good reason for it just [TS]

00:43:27   saying let's get Robert Downey jr. out [TS]

00:43:29   of the suit but i like that as a message [TS]

00:43:31   that that that it's about the guy and [TS]

00:43:35   then also when he's in Tennessee and he [TS]

00:43:37   he talks to his little kid friend about [TS]

00:43:40   about who he is and he says he's a [TS]

00:43:43   mechanic I like that too because it's [TS]

00:43:45   it's you know at his core [TS]

00:43:47   when when he is laid low by his [TS]

00:43:50   post-traumatic stress disorder was Tony [TS]

00:43:52   Stark do he doesn't actually descended [TS]

00:43:54   into booze and girls right [TS]

00:43:56   he still with pepper and he's what he [TS]

00:43:58   does is he becomes like obsessively [TS]

00:44:00   building things hehe is an engineer at [TS]

00:44:03   his core easy [TS]

00:44:04   he's a he's a playboy billionaire but [TS]

00:44:06   really he's an engineer and I like that [TS]

00:44:08   it's like that's who he is that's who [TS]

00:44:11   Tony Stark is at the center any and and [TS]

00:44:13   and he's a person and he's got these [TS]

00:44:16   ideas and all this other stuff is just [TS]

00:44:18   fish he's got his metal shell and he's [TS]

00:44:20   got his like emotional shell of like oh [TS]

00:44:22   I'm I'm quickie and i I'm I'm a [TS]

00:44:25   billionaire and all that but in reality [TS]

00:44:27   he's actually a guy who is that is [TS]

00:44:28   happiest when he's building these stupid [TS]

00:44:30   suits and i like that i thought that was [TS]

00:44:32   a really nice a really nice way to [TS]

00:44:35   handle that character i think it's all [TS]

00:44:36   right way to approach Tony Stark [TS]

00:44:38   yeah i totally agree i'm always amazed [TS]

00:44:40   when they do that where it's like yes [TS]

00:44:41   you you characterize this person right [TS]

00:44:44   yeah i agree i think one thing is so [TS]

00:44:46   when i look at the height of my German [TS]

00:44:48   of this character sort of late eighties [TS]

00:44:51   early nineties kind of thing he was [TS]

00:44:53   amazing and building the suits and all [TS]

00:44:55   that but if you needed to break into a [TS]

00:44:56   computer he would have to go to one of [TS]

00:44:58   his guys like he was not software this [TS]

00:45:02   guy is a hardware guy he's keep watching [TS]

00:45:04   literally a center yeah I mean I'm [TS]

00:45:06   stomach these days you kind of have to [TS]

00:45:09   make him software don't want to but but [TS]

00:45:14   yeah like that it's the mechanical stuff [TS]

00:45:15   is really so it gets to the heart of the [TS]

00:45:17   guy like he built thank you build a [TS]

00:45:19   physical things yeah that's what that's [TS]

00:45:21   what that's his skill right that's a [TS]

00:45:23   superpower things got a superpower is [TS]

00:45:25   that he's a builder [TS]

00:45:26   yeah it actually kind of bugged me that [TS]

00:45:28   he figured out the extremists thing [TS]

00:45:29   during a time of running it's like you [TS]

00:45:32   know [TS]

00:45:32   come on ok smart but you shouldn't be [TS]

00:45:36   able to fix every single red problem [TS]

00:45:38   although whatever in in the comic books [TS]

00:45:39   he's there you know expanded his [TS]

00:45:43   character sometimes justed ultimate [TS]

00:45:45   genius and if I also really like the [TS]

00:45:47   fact that there's that scene where [TS]

00:45:49   pepper comes home and she's welcomed by [TS]

00:45:52   Iron Man and it turns out that iron man [TS]

00:45:55   is is not tony and he's downstairs and [TS]

00:45:58   he was offloaded the girlfriend made [TS]

00:46:00   it's one of those machines yeah I love [TS]

00:46:01   that because he's dad messed up [TS]

00:46:04   he's that also reminds me of the opening [TS]

00:46:06   of watchmen where Lori's asleep and [TS]

00:46:09   John's putting the moves on her with one [TS]

00:46:10   of his body duplicates will he decides [TS]

00:46:12   the room right right in different room [TS]

00:46:14   it's a bad move right it's like against [TS]

00:46:16   the message here is don't use your [TS]

00:46:17   technology to as a replacement for the [TS]

00:46:19   personal touch don't do it [TS]

00:46:21   that was a really nice touch and and [TS]

00:46:24   then the other thing which i mentioned [TS]

00:46:25   earlier that i thought was a really [TS]

00:46:26   great theme from this again is is this [TS]

00:46:29   is a movie about a guy who's an engineer [TS]

00:46:30   he builds things they're made out of [TS]

00:46:31   metal and computers and all that [TS]

00:46:33   who is the best villain to have it's not [TS]

00:46:36   another guy although I like jeff bridges [TS]

00:46:38   in the first movie that were all right [TS]

00:46:40   yeah right but it's not a guy in a metal [TS]

00:46:42   suit it's it's these biotech villains [TS]

00:46:45   and I think that says something about us [TS]

00:46:47   that like as viewers and as people who [TS]

00:46:49   are living in the 21st century [TS]

00:46:51   we're kind of comfortable with computers [TS]

00:46:52   and hardware computer hardware and stuff [TS]

00:46:55   like that [TS]

00:46:56   the scary thing the other that makes us [TS]

00:46:58   kind of creeped out is the is this is [TS]

00:47:01   this organic biology hacking your own [TS]

00:47:04   body [TS]

00:47:05   Gino changing who you are physically [TS]

00:47:08   instead of just adding we're comfortable [TS]

00:47:10   like adding text to our persons but not [TS]

00:47:12   to die changing our biology and that's [TS]

00:47:15   what extremist is and I think that's [TS]

00:47:16   really cool idea that in the movie like [TS]

00:47:19   this that the ville the villains are not [TS]

00:47:22   other people in metal like it the the [TS]

00:47:24   danger just comes at him from a totally [TS]

00:47:26   different direction like wood one that [TS]

00:47:28   ideally he wouldn't understand but it [TS]

00:47:30   apparently understand enough to cure it [TS]

00:47:32   turns out cure it during a voiceover but [TS]

00:47:35   whatever but know that I think that's a [TS]

00:47:37   really good point gets back in the [TS]

00:47:38   sixties of aviation right like surviving [TS]

00:47:40   i got bit by a radioactive spider these [TS]

00:47:42   days are genetically altered spider [TS]

00:47:44   right right and that's that's the scary [TS]

00:47:46   it's always a spider-man Iron Man's yes [TS]

00:47:49   it's a BSI daredevil was hit by a [TS]

00:47:52   package of that's right it's always been [TS]

00:47:57   fantastic for was my barded by cosmic [TS]

00:47:59   spiders [TS]

00:48:00   it's weird was spider really Stanley was [TS]

00:48:03   afraid of spiders it turns out he had a [TS]

00:48:04   horrible phobia spider-man killed [TS]

00:48:06   Batman's parents by the way [TS]

00:48:08   spoiler alert know the yet so the end of [TS]

00:48:15   this movie guy you just mentioned it it [TS]

00:48:18   it's weird and it did guy you and I were [TS]

00:48:21   talking about on twitter and it's funny [TS]

00:48:24   because I like a look at the proper end [TS]

00:48:27   of this movie i would say there are a [TS]

00:48:28   couple proper endings there's a proper [TS]

00:48:30   ending where it's tony and pepper on the [TS]

00:48:33   oil thing where it's kind of the end of [TS]

00:48:36   that and I felt like you could almost [TS]

00:48:38   end the movie there i met kind of [TS]

00:48:40   personal moment between them but [TS]

00:48:42   certainly there's that moment where he's [TS]

00:48:44   at the rubble of his house and he's [TS]

00:48:46   talking about basically like you know [TS]

00:48:49   I'm Iron Man which is a great message [TS]

00:48:51   right it's like in the end it's me I [TS]

00:48:53   it's not my stuff [TS]

00:48:55   it's me and that's the theme of the [TS]

00:48:57   movie and it's come it comes back around [TS]

00:48:58   in the end he gets rid of all the stuff [TS]

00:49:00   he blows up all those iron man suits [TS]

00:49:02   it doesn't matter because like we said [TS]

00:49:03   at the end of the first movie when he [TS]

00:49:05   said I'm ironman it literally is Tony's [TS]

00:49:08   iron man he's the important part of the [TS]

00:49:09   puzzle not the technology bookends it [TS]

00:49:12   nicely are gonna work they actually stop [TS]

00:49:14   this series after iron man 3 yeah things [TS]

00:49:16   to make money will not allow that to [TS]

00:49:19   happen but the thing is Robert [TS]

00:49:21   engineer's nearly 50 and sinner or later [TS]

00:49:24   it's gonna it's just going to start [TS]

00:49:25   looking at really ridiculous and sad the [TS]

00:49:27   same way that it kind of does now when [TS]

00:49:29   you watch you Jackman as Wolverine where [TS]

00:49:31   you're like my your impressive shape for [TS]

00:49:33   a guy who's nearly 50 and you think but [TS]

00:49:35   you're nearly fifteen you're playing an [TS]

00:49:36   ageless mutants actually I'd be ok if it [TS]

00:49:39   in Avengers 2 it was really like tony [TS]

00:49:41   was like look I don't want to do this [TS]

00:49:42   anymore and he sort of has forced to but [TS]

00:49:44   it was not like I'm active in at the top [TS]

00:49:46   of my game but more like he should do is [TS]

00:49:48   just blend out some remote control suits [TS]

00:49:51   like me you see him as sitting out the [TS]

00:49:53   fight but he's participating because he [TS]

00:49:54   sends out some more suits sure because [TS]

00:49:57   you know once once once some samuel [TS]

00:49:59   jackson excuse me Nick Fury one stick [TS]

00:50:01   furious background like the Sandals [TS]

00:50:02   resort and discovers what's happening [TS]

00:50:03   right now what [TS]

00:50:04   that's can talk about before yeah he's [TS]

00:50:07   gonna like so let me get this straight [TS]

00:50:09   while I wasn't while i was on vacation [TS]

00:50:10   we found out that Tony Stark is a [TS]

00:50:12   massive case of PTSD he double dog dare [TS]

00:50:15   to terrorists to find him on national TV [TS]

00:50:17   the terrorists did this guy goes [TS]

00:50:19   underground and deepest darkest redneck [TS]

00:50:20   stand [TS]

00:50:21   he emerges it turns out he's been [TS]

00:50:22   secretly building several independent [TS]

00:50:24   autonomous remote-controlled iron man [TS]

00:50:26   suits in his basement [TS]

00:50:27   okay ducky this existed i want some of [TS]

00:50:30   them i want some of them ironman sign me [TS]

00:50:33   up [TS]

00:50:33   yeah i think that actually might be [TS]

00:50:34   interesting so this r8 as a Iron Man fan [TS]

00:50:37   that I don't like any of this war [TS]

00:50:39   machine stuff and ready even though it's [TS]

00:50:41   something that's been Andy eventually be [TS]

00:50:44   funny lines right i say i loved what [TS]

00:50:47   they did with him because they made him [TS]

00:50:48   goofy and sort of an effective you know [TS]

00:50:50   like trying hard but basically just [TS]

00:50:52   failed at every point i hate the idea of [TS]

00:50:55   strapping giant machine guns into iron [TS]

00:50:57   man because it's ghost light totally [TS]

00:50:59   against what the characters about [TS]

00:51:01   basically yeah I never liked I never [TS]

00:51:04   liked war machine I like Brody when he [TS]

00:51:06   was in Iron Man's armor because don't [TS]

00:51:08   get drunk [TS]

00:51:09   that was great because he's like some [TS]

00:51:11   fish every man has to fly the armor it's [TS]

00:51:13   like oh crap what do i do but that was [TS]

00:51:16   that was amazing [TS]

00:51:17   yeah like I think they kind of touched [TS]

00:51:19   on it in the second movie but they skip [TS]

00:51:21   the missed a huge opportunity not to [TS]

00:51:23   deal with the Starks alcoholism [TS]

00:51:26   yeah I i agree that would have been a [TS]

00:51:28   great are going to magically cured by [TS]

00:51:31   his PTSD [TS]

00:51:32   yeah well maybe you know maybe one way [TS]

00:51:33   forward for the series of downey you [TS]

00:51:36   know it either doesn't want to do it or [TS]

00:51:37   that it doesn't really fit is to have [TS]

00:51:40   him like you said be the kind of genius [TS]

00:51:42   behind the scenes and have either [TS]

00:51:44   remote-controlled or you know or have I [TS]

00:51:46   don't like Don Cheadle is an interesting [TS]

00:51:48   character and have him be like alright [TS]

00:51:50   Tony you don't want to be on man we need [TS]

00:51:52   an iron man i'll be iron man yeah that [TS]

00:51:54   would have let you or some other [TS]

00:51:55   character because they do with the [TS]

00:51:57   marvel vs with Hawkeye is everyone [TS]

00:51:59   smaller like oh he's getting old and [TS]

00:52:00   falling apart so why don't we give it to [TS]

00:52:02   Kate what's-her-face yes Brad and it [TS]

00:52:05   actually works where you know where it's [TS]

00:52:07   a nice meditation on mortality and the [TS]

00:52:09   question of whether or not people are [TS]

00:52:11   more attached to the notion of a hero [TS]

00:52:14   identity with the person behind it right [TS]

00:52:16   and moving number three seems to suggest [TS]

00:52:18   that iron man is Tony Stark is our men [TS]

00:52:20   is tony stark and I think it'd be kind [TS]

00:52:22   of interesting if in Avengers to Tony [TS]

00:52:24   Stark cassettes you know what I'm iron [TS]

00:52:26   man but i can just change the parameters [TS]

00:52:27   that anytime I feel like right now what [TS]

00:52:29   that means that i'm the guy in the [TS]

00:52:31   central control zone with all my little [TS]

00:52:32   robots flying around [TS]

00:52:34   instead you don't want to hate it well [TS]

00:52:35   first of all the idea of a [TS]

00:52:36   remote-control suit i really dislike [TS]

00:52:39   because it totally takes you out of [TS]

00:52:42   danger like you're not here at that [TS]

00:52:44   point he never why does he ever and we [TS]

00:52:46   were never we never really saw but it [TS]

00:52:48   does turn into a drone operator [TS]

00:52:50   yeah yes it is what I mean you know you [TS]

00:52:53   had a pack of cigarettes in an ashtray [TS]

00:52:54   next to you and you like yesterday [TS]

00:52:57   because of their force base actually I I [TS]

00:52:59   feel like we needed a scene where we saw [TS]

00:53:01   that the drone Iron Man armor wasn't as [TS]

00:53:05   effective like there's a reason why it's [TS]

00:53:07   better if there's a guy in it you know [TS]

00:53:09   what we whatever so used to seeing i [TS]

00:53:11   really want to talk about is the plane [TS]

00:53:13   rescue right that is a daring like dude [TS]

00:53:16   you know this suit bus into a plane [TS]

00:53:18   takes out an extremist guy and pretty [TS]

00:53:20   clever away and ends up saving 113 [TS]

00:53:23   following people right people you by [TS]

00:53:25   doing this crazy maneuver and then like [TS]

00:53:29   after he saves them just flies off and [TS]

00:53:31   gets hit by bus and disintegrates and we [TS]

00:53:32   find out that Tony hasn't been there the [TS]

00:53:34   whole time like that you just that's not [TS]

00:53:37   a heroic the letdown is that's like well [TS]

00:53:40   thank you [TS]

00:53:41   she really liked that I thought that was [TS]

00:53:43   but he also has a thing for me it's like [TS]

00:53:44   Jarvis tells him that you can only hold [TS]

00:53:47   for people he takes a ballsy move by [TS]

00:53:50   trying to figure out how to that he's [TS]

00:53:52   going to save all of electric current [TS]

00:53:53   yeah he's gonna save all of them and it [TS]

00:53:55   may not work and he may end up crashing [TS]

00:53:57   into the into the water and dying [TS]

00:54:00   basically except that was never the risk [TS]

00:54:02   that he took the hero never took the [TS]

00:54:04   risk there right he tried something they [TS]

00:54:06   thought could work and it didn't work [TS]

00:54:08   well whatever at least he did something [TS]

00:54:10   at least he tried [TS]

00:54:12   you know I mean like it i just it [TS]

00:54:14   removes again [TS]

00:54:16   Musa vulnerability of the character yeah [TS]

00:54:19   I i agree i think it was cool and yet at [TS]

00:54:21   the same time it does feel like the [TS]

00:54:23   stakes are a lot less of Tony's just do [TS]

00:54:24   enough like remote control on the ground [TS]

00:54:26   and this nigga shaving was awesome and [TS]

00:54:29   then they kind of threw it away with [TS]

00:54:30   that gag where he gets hit by a bus and [TS]

00:54:32   surely check out be not as good when [TS]

00:54:34   it's a remote-controlled suit is when [TS]

00:54:36   there's a guy in it right [TS]

00:54:37   I mean surely about the kind of hundred [TS]

00:54:40   country they actually make that they [TS]

00:54:41   make that argument and i guess and i see [TS]

00:54:43   i see your point i think i think it [TS]

00:54:45   would be more compelling if it were [TS]

00:54:46   the remote-controlled suits are handy [TS]

00:54:48   for simple tasks but the reaction time [TS]

00:54:52   where the leg time is such where they [TS]

00:54:54   can work with you can't use them in [TS]

00:54:55   finished situations but what I enjoyed [TS]

00:54:58   about using the suit remotely to [TS]

00:55:01   electrocute 13 people and then stick [TS]

00:55:03   them in the water was which is what [TS]

00:55:07   happened [TS]

00:55:07   yeah skinmedica mean electricity it's [TS]

00:55:12   your friend I'm what i thought was it [TS]

00:55:15   was actually I thought okay this is a [TS]

00:55:16   great way actually to set up for future [TS]

00:55:18   movies where again Robert Downey jr. is [TS]

00:55:20   closing in on age 50 and he snapped his [TS]

00:55:23   ankle like a pretzel stick making this [TS]

00:55:25   movie so what's to say that he's in the [TS]

00:55:27   next one is like you know what let's [TS]

00:55:29   just explore the idea that i'm taking [TS]

00:55:32   the tech i'm i'm taking the person out [TS]

00:55:34   of the technology and I i am moving into [TS]

00:55:36   drone operators and I thought well this [TS]

00:55:37   would be nice precedent for that and it [TS]

00:55:39   also points out that again this is him [TS]

00:55:40   thinking his way through a problem and [TS]

00:55:42   there were two problems number one was [TS]

00:55:44   there were 13 people that had to be [TS]

00:55:45   saved the number two was he couldn't [TS]

00:55:47   leave roadie in the ship and he still [TS]

00:55:49   had to save them and he thought his way [TS]

00:55:50   into a really creative solution so I [TS]

00:55:52   thought that the stakes were there just [TS]

00:55:54   because he wasn't physically present [TS]

00:55:55   didn't mean that the states were there [TS]

00:55:57   people the people steal victims were [TS]

00:55:59   there but he wasn't right he was risking [TS]

00:56:00   himself yet so but he still felt [TS]

00:56:04   responsible if he hadn't managed to save [TS]

00:56:05   them [TS]

00:56:06   ok woody that's part yes but he wouldn't [TS]

00:56:08   be dead in two meters a bit like Alicia [TS]

00:56:10   is this had happened in your life be [TS]

00:56:11   like mannequins a hero but kind of gives [TS]

00:56:14   you didn't have any skin in the game it [TS]

00:56:15   feels dramatically less impressive right [TS]

00:56:17   instead of dying he would have just gone [TS]

00:56:19   back to his lair and built like a team [TS]

00:56:21   or suits more feeling guilty right that [TS]

00:56:23   way and that and that would have also [TS]

00:56:24   been an interesting way to go so so we [TS]

00:56:26   should talk about the the other part of [TS]

00:56:28   the ending that i didn't mention which [TS]

00:56:30   is I in my mind the most problematic [TS]

00:56:32   part of the end which is we have the [TS]

00:56:35   series of it's almost like you don't [TS]

00:56:38   like the end of unbreakable which is a [TS]

00:56:39   movie i like but they're sort of like [TS]

00:56:41   the and this happens in lots of movies [TS]

00:56:43   and TV shows like mr. glass was [TS]

00:56:45   incarcerated at this array it's like [TS]

00:56:47   literally tell you what happened after [TS]

00:56:49   the story was over and so we get this [TS]

00:56:50   weird thing where it's like and then i [TS]

00:56:53   cured pepper [TS]

00:56:54   yeah and I I figured out how to save [TS]

00:56:57   myself from all the metal by my [TS]

00:56:59   why don't the shrapnel and I was all [TS]

00:57:02   what what what well I think everything I [TS]

00:57:06   did [TS]

00:57:07   it's big from extremists thing going on [TS]

00:57:10   there but they don't exactly know that's [TS]

00:57:12   the only way I could make that my name [TS]

00:57:14   and I get it I get the almost no this is [TS]

00:57:17   too much to say it's the poetry of it [TS]

00:57:18   but I get the symbolism of it right [TS]

00:57:20   because it's he's removing the tech he's [TS]

00:57:22   blowing up suits he's removing the text [TS]

00:57:25   from his heart he's gonna be a guy he's [TS]

00:57:27   gonna not be an attack I get that and I [TS]

00:57:29   get sort of I guess from a continuity [TS]

00:57:31   standpoint of like not making people [TS]

00:57:33   worried about pepper or something but it [TS]

00:57:35   seemed kinda like unnecessary and sudden [TS]

00:57:38   and i would rather I don't know I don't [TS]

00:57:41   know whether I would rather they just [TS]

00:57:43   deferred it for the next time we see [TS]

00:57:45   Tony Stark that he doesn't have the [TS]

00:57:46   thing anymore and he got it out of his [TS]

00:57:48   heart and that we deal with pepper not [TS]

00:57:50   being an extremist thing anymore felt to [TS]

00:57:54   me that they got to the end of a movie [TS]

00:57:55   yeah and then they were like okay now [TS]

00:57:58   we're going to end the trilogy so the [TS]

00:58:01   pieces are out of his heart yeah you're [TS]

00:58:03   gone and yeah things look things are [TS]

00:58:05   looking up for Tony like just after all [TS]

00:58:08   this time suddenly it's like and then I [TS]

00:58:10   had this great idea i could get the [TS]

00:58:12   thing out of my mind my heart [TS]

00:58:14   well I mean it opens with him shooting [TS]

00:58:16   more technology into himself right [TS]

00:58:18   answers have taken it out so it kind of [TS]

00:58:21   balances out [TS]

00:58:22   yeah the meaning the place at the poetry [TS]

00:58:24   that the the symbolism of it that works [TS]

00:58:26   for me it's him he's removing the attack [TS]

00:58:28   was injecting tag have no idea what he [TS]

00:58:30   didn't do it before actually to return [TS]

00:58:31   to the theme that you exported in your [TS]

00:58:33   tech I've piece where you talk about how [TS]

00:58:35   the movie reveals a somatic uneasiness [TS]

00:58:38   with biotech Tony Stark turns himself [TS]

00:58:41   into a cyborg and then undoes it [TS]

00:58:43   yeah and to me it's intriguing that we [TS]

00:58:45   are much more okay with the idea of [TS]

00:58:48   introducing man-made foreign objects [TS]

00:58:50   into our bodies if they're cool [TS]

00:58:52   yeah then we are with trying to rewrite [TS]

00:58:55   genetic code to avoid diseases or [TS]

00:58:57   restore lost limbs or or anything like [TS]

00:58:59   that it's it just gets set up as you [TS]

00:59:03   know I'm a I'm a troubled man I always [TS]

00:59:06   i'm going to have the mettle by my heart [TS]

00:59:07   and only technology is keeping me alive [TS]

00:59:09   for three movies and at the end of the [TS]

00:59:12   third movie [TS]

00:59:12   it's like finally I figured that out [TS]

00:59:14   yeah yeah it's kind of weird and it [TS]

00:59:16   seems people not what I well-adjusted [TS]

00:59:18   have the love of a good woman i have the [TS]

00:59:19   motivation [TS]

00:59:20   yeah and then also it's extremist we [TS]

00:59:22   don't understand it's very strange very [TS]

00:59:23   deadly these people are blowing up and [TS]

00:59:25   they're killing people and their bad and [TS]

00:59:27   I fixed [TS]

00:59:28   oh I figured that out i cured that ok I [TS]

00:59:30   mean it's just it's a letdown because I [TS]

00:59:32   guess it would be nice if Bruce Banner [TS]

00:59:34   have been the one to figure that out [TS]

00:59:35   it's a good thing i could write you [TS]

00:59:38   monkeys organic system that haven't been [TS]

00:59:40   oh my Romick I fix all these people who [TS]

00:59:42   burst into flames but i can text my own [TS]

00:59:44   bad temper and I'm sure there's a they [TS]

00:59:46   wanted just the shortcut because they [TS]

00:59:48   wanted the poetry so they wanted they [TS]

00:59:50   wanted the shortcut but it just it [TS]

00:59:51   seemed really abrupt and it reminded me [TS]

00:59:54   of nothing other than that seen in the [TS]

00:59:57   Simpsons where where there's that slot [TS]

00:59:57   Simpsons where where there's that slot [TS]

01:00:00   I think it's dropped in the the chain [TS]

01:00:01   scratchy show that says pucci died on [TS]

01:00:03   the way back to his home planet and they [TS]

01:00:04   say that's okay she was an alien [TS]

01:00:06   I guess right it's just like whoa where [TS]

01:00:09   did that come from [TS]

01:00:10   ooo I guess the cured extremist ok it's [TS]

01:00:13   just it's it's it's weird I get why they [TS]

01:00:15   did it because i like that Tony ends up [TS]

01:00:17   completely unencumbered by technology [TS]

01:00:19   that's what this movie is about it's [TS]

01:00:21   about how he isn't important and the [TS]

01:00:23   suit is not and what defines him is not [TS]

01:00:25   his technology but him you know his [TS]

01:00:28   intelligence and his personality and and [TS]

01:00:30   himself as a human being i get all of [TS]

01:00:33   that it's just like whoa that you know [TS]

01:00:35   it but you told us for three movies that [TS]

01:00:37   he could he had this trapdoor in his [TS]

01:00:39   heart he couldn't take it out now it's [TS]

01:00:41   like that's fine i didn't know that was [TS]

01:00:43   you know it just it was yeah i would [TS]

01:00:45   have trusted brought many minutes of the [TS]

01:00:48   final battle scene [TS]

01:00:49   yeah for like a more robust wrap up to [TS]

01:00:52   the you know to the trilogy vegas right [TS]

01:00:55   of the human well again I were the human [TS]

01:00:57   race meant the human elements were what [TS]

01:00:59   we wanted to see a little more of at the [TS]

01:01:01   end and not just lots of stuff blowing [TS]

01:01:03   up maybe that's what we got [TS]

01:01:05   yeah but i like it so where do we put [TS]

01:01:07   this as well as we're getting toward the [TS]

01:01:09   end here where do we put these three [TS]

01:01:11   movies in terms of sequence I I had a [TS]

01:01:14   bunch of people asking is it better than [TS]

01:01:15   iron man one is better than iron man 2i [TS]

01:01:17   think an army into personally i think is [TS]

01:01:19   the weakest of these by far [TS]

01:01:21   oh yes I I like Iron Man 1 so much and [TS]

01:01:24   iron man 3 I guess I'd say it's not as [TS]

01:01:26   good as the first movie but the first 90 [TS]

01:01:28   minutes of it is really really good and [TS]

01:01:30   then it's just like okay after it's sort [TS]

01:01:32   of more generic superhero after that and [TS]

01:01:34   I was let down because I I thought that [TS]

01:01:36   first 90 minutes where it's kind of [TS]

01:01:38   weird and darken subversive and I like [TS]

01:01:41   that part of it so i guess i drank from [TS]

01:01:42   13 to but i'm curious what you guys [TS]

01:01:45   think its 1324 here [TS]

01:01:47   yeah I think he was just terrible it is [TS]

01:01:50   it is other than that seen with the race [TS]

01:01:53   car in the amount suitcase i like i love [TS]

01:01:55   that i like this even the diner with [TS]

01:01:56   scarlett johansson and samuel l jackson [TS]

01:01:58   laying it out for Robert sure [TS]

01:02:00   oh yeah actually yeah there's a couple [TS]

01:02:02   of good things i watch it again like I [TS]

01:02:03   think Scarlett Johansson's pretty [TS]

01:02:04   underrated in the in the franchise's a [TS]

01:02:06   hole to be frank [TS]

01:02:07   she's really good actually and then she [TS]

01:02:10   yeah yeah I think she's in [TS]

01:02:12   she's in the new captain america that's [TS]

01:02:14   going to come out the winter soldier [TS]

01:02:16   she's a major not like even a cameo but [TS]

01:02:19   like is the the major other character in [TS]

01:02:22   that which i'm looking forward to [TS]

01:02:24   because I feel like that character is [TS]

01:02:25   actually gonna benefit from not being [TS]

01:02:26   sharing the space with you know eight [TS]

01:02:29   other people [TS]

01:02:30   yea yea or you know basically being a [TS]

01:02:32   curious little not only the attack dog [TS]

01:02:36   but you know that yeah the darth vader [TS]

01:02:38   Furies palatine yeah transparency they [TS]

01:02:41   basically they're using her for errands [TS]

01:02:43   which right yeah and you're thinking [TS]

01:02:45   really this is a person who's training [TS]

01:02:47   who can kill people with her thighs and [TS]

01:02:49   speaking billion and then you're [TS]

01:02:51   basically sending her just to just to [TS]

01:02:52   check off items on your you get things [TS]

01:02:54   done for you know what they did well [TS]

01:02:56   with her in the Avengers did when they [TS]

01:02:57   introduced her that was a great scene [TS]

01:02:59   where you think she's in trouble and [TS]

01:03:01   then she gets called in and that is [TS]

01:03:03   literally just Whedon at his back yet [TS]

01:03:05   that is that scene is Joss Whedon at his [TS]

01:03:08   best that's what he does well yeah she's [TS]

01:03:10   like exasperated like yeah come on [TS]

01:03:12   Messiah plus i'm looking forward to [TS]

01:03:13   seeing Avengers 2 because presumably if [TS]

01:03:15   she and Captain America take their act [TS]

01:03:17   on the road in winter soldier then that [TS]

01:03:20   should inform their partnership or their [TS]

01:03:22   reactions in the second adventures and I [TS]

01:03:24   like the idea of when the band gets back [TS]

01:03:26   together [TS]

01:03:27   there are all of these alliances or [TS]

01:03:29   loyalties that didn't used to be there [TS]

01:03:30   yet right definitely like in The [TS]

01:03:32   Adventures a-listers at you know captain [TS]

01:03:35   Tony don't like each other right but [TS]

01:03:38   then they end up working together to fix [TS]

01:03:39   the Helicarrier and it you know in the [TS]

01:03:42   comic books they're fast friends except [TS]

01:03:46   except for the civil war but other well [TS]

01:03:47   saying that should have just disappeared [TS]

01:03:49   but yes no more now Lord of course [TS]

01:03:52   that's sure to say yeah no more [TS]

01:03:55   disagreements between Tony and captain [TS]

01:03:57   america please [TS]

01:03:58   it's Reed Richards fault it's always [TS]

01:03:59   rebuild it's always a guy well how do [TS]

01:04:01   you rate the how do you rate the movies [TS]

01:04:03   where the slot iron man 3 I i think [TS]

01:04:05   there's should be no argument [TS]

01:04:06   number one is just brilliant yeah number [TS]

01:04:10   three is good [TS]

01:04:11   number two is kind of bed [TS]

01:04:14   yeah but and I'm saying that like that's [TS]

01:04:18   calibrated to be you know general [TS]

01:04:20   filmgoing person [TS]

01:04:23   preferred the nerdy stuff i think it's [TS]

01:04:26   still the same order but you know maybe [TS]

01:04:27   did spread is reduced a little bit [TS]

01:04:29   enough [TS]

01:04:31   Scott what about you i would agree iron [TS]

01:04:34   man two is this weird movie for me in [TS]

01:04:37   which I completely forget that I've seen [TS]

01:04:40   it every time I was on TV I'm like oh [TS]

01:04:43   and i remember we get to the bottom of [TS]

01:04:45   weather like in the swamp and there's [TS]

01:04:46   the Ironman and and and and Brody is [TS]

01:04:49   there and then be at the mitten bike [TS]

01:04:51   missile robot guys are coming in and I'm [TS]

01:04:52   like okay thats in this movie it's like [TS]

01:04:55   I can't even it doesn't even step make [TS]

01:04:57   some sense yeah i have already its kind [TS]

01:04:59   of doesn't have a coherent plot it's [TS]

01:05:01   just so I want to have three are far far [TS]

01:05:04   superior get two to three every single [TS]

01:05:06   character has a motivation even want to [TS]

01:05:09   name d a million not killing you killing [TS]

01:05:13   the same guy [TS]

01:05:14   yeah Maya Hansen to right right yeah and [TS]

01:05:17   she has a like a perfectly reasonable [TS]

01:05:18   reason to take Killians money to try to [TS]

01:05:21   develop extremist Killian has a [TS]

01:05:24   perfectly reasonable reason why not [TS]

01:05:26   it's insane but you know he wants like [TS]

01:05:28   they're really good to set up the [TS]

01:05:29   announcement vixen those motivations [TS]

01:05:32   dollar characters and iron man 2 it's [TS]

01:05:33   like I don't I don't get it [TS]

01:05:35   I there's Mickey work his son is very [TS]

01:05:37   mad at Tony Stark for reasons it's just [TS]

01:05:41   because [TS]

01:05:43   yeah yeah we have my bird that's right [TS]

01:05:47   the great it was all the bird that's [TS]

01:05:48   what it was [TS]

01:05:49   it's a fake I would give give me my bird [TS]

01:05:52   i want bird already start stealing my [TS]

01:05:54   bird [TS]

01:05:55   so you know i like i like um I like iron [TS]

01:05:58   man 3 it sounds like everybody here [TS]

01:05:59   agreed that it was kind of a thumbs-up [TS]

01:06:01   iron man 3 and I wanted to say how jaded [TS]

01:06:04   we are about this because I think back [TS]

01:06:07   to other superhero franchise third [TS]

01:06:09   movies this is the kiss of death for [TS]

01:06:12   superhero franchises there have been so [TS]

01:06:14   many bad third superhero movies and by [TS]

01:06:18   those terms you know you know how lucky [TS]

01:06:21   we are man 3 was actually good because [TS]

01:06:24   you know spider-man 3 is what your [TS]

01:06:27   superman three or I you know there's a [TS]

01:06:30   lot of really bad third third movies in [TS]

01:06:34   general and third superhero movies in [TS]

01:06:35   particular and [TS]

01:06:36   iron man 3 was good yes good and I think [TS]

01:06:39   you're right it's because they didn't [TS]

01:06:40   make a superhero movie they made a buddy [TS]

01:06:43   movie and yet when James Bondish kinda [TS]

01:06:46   for ya you know that they made MacGyver [TS]

01:06:48   with and in and i love i love the [TS]

01:06:51   Christmas story crack that he gives oh [TS]

01:06:54   yeah like when we first meet the guys [TS]

01:06:55   got this a group like this i'm doing [TS]

01:06:57   Christmas that's gotta be a an ad-lib [TS]

01:06:59   that one feels like downs just like [TS]

01:07:01   that's funny well Peter Billingsley was [TS]

01:07:03   in the first iron man movie yeah he was [TS]

01:07:05   and I think he's he's a producing [TS]

01:07:07   Callejon jon jon favreau yeah John [TS]

01:07:10   factors put on a bit away i'm going to [TS]

01:07:12   say he did he does and that's okay [TS]

01:07:14   yeah you know he looks good it's just it [TS]

01:07:17   he the characters drastically different [TS]

01:07:19   from the first we didn't even mention [TS]

01:07:20   that the that Jon Favreau's character [TS]

01:07:22   has been put in charge of security and [TS]

01:07:24   he's super paranoid although it turns [TS]

01:07:26   out that he's right to be [TS]

01:07:27   yeah but that wasn't Larry some very [TS]

01:07:29   some funny moments of him being you know [TS]

01:07:31   everybody like oh yes happy whatever you [TS]

01:07:33   know what your bachelor 1999 400 the [TS]

01:07:36   little mama delightful yeah you know [TS]

01:07:39   what one of the yeah one of my favorite [TS]

01:07:40   lines because i watched yesterday from [TS]

01:07:42   iron man two with a Tony's starts e gets [TS]

01:07:47   in the racing car he gets into the [TS]

01:07:49   formula 1 car right and you see the [TS]

01:07:51   driver the designated designated driver [TS]

01:07:53   like throw his helmet down all pissed [TS]

01:07:55   off and pepper starting to realize and [TS]

01:07:58   so she says to Scarlett Johansson's [TS]

01:07:59   character whatever black widow [TS]

01:08:01   yeah well it wasn't attached it whatever [TS]

01:08:04   it is she's under a pseudonym and yeah [TS]

01:08:06   um yes Natalie Natalie Natalie Natalie [TS]

01:08:09   get me happy i need happy I'm like [TS]

01:08:13   that's such a perfect line like I just [TS]

01:08:16   love i love that character everything [TS]

01:08:18   about me so happy because Matthew [TS]

01:08:20   everything about happy Hogan makes me [TS]

01:08:21   happy [TS]

01:08:22   well he he gets the gets Tony the burger [TS]

01:08:25   king hamburger assumption that he's [TS]

01:08:28   awesome [TS]

01:08:28   yeah you know I i was listening to [TS]

01:08:30   somebody talking about iron man and talk [TS]

01:08:33   about product placement in general and [TS]

01:08:34   they mentioned that scene they were [TS]

01:08:36   ranting about how it goes and he gets [TS]

01:08:39   back from his he gets back from his a [TS]

01:08:41   his time in Afghanistan and he ends up [TS]

01:08:43   with this burger king rapper and it's [TS]

01:08:45   like this and no it's shameless product [TS]

01:08:46   placements like I love that I love that [TS]

01:08:49   shameless product placement [TS]

01:08:50   it's so fun it's funny it's like he [TS]

01:08:52   wants a hamburger they do drive-through [TS]

01:08:54   in the limo on the way the press [TS]

01:08:56   conference [TS]

01:08:56   it makes me laugh I don't know did if I [TS]

01:08:58   were trapped in the cave in Afghanistan [TS]

01:09:00   and then I had to send those back and I [TS]

01:09:03   deal in and out please give you a minute [TS]

01:09:05   out no no i mean well i think it was he [TS]

01:09:08   just didn't care [TS]

01:09:08   it's just get me a burger maybe Tony [TS]

01:09:10   Stark's taste buds are killed by the [TS]

01:09:12   alcohol and he thought that you know [TS]

01:09:14   that hey burger king is what I wanted [TS]

01:09:17   yes there is so much article mentioned [TS]

01:09:20   there's so much article product [TS]

01:09:21   placement it's crazy [TS]

01:09:22   oh yes so in this movie of greatness [TS]

01:09:24   points out that at the end Tony upgrades [TS]

01:09:27   the kids a shack to fios which is very [TS]

01:09:30   funny and then the Oracle i am searching [TS]

01:09:32   the Oracle cloud now that was also very [TS]

01:09:34   funny but Tony Stark is sort of based on [TS]

01:09:36   Larry Andersen anyways yeah all because [TS]

01:09:39   I thought it was a I actually thought [TS]

01:09:40   was shut up to DC cop no no that's the [TS]

01:09:43   nice yeah joe butter and celery was even [TS]

01:09:45   in the second one he makes an appearance [TS]

01:09:47   at some point yeah him in and Elon Musk [TS]

01:09:50   you are like the two kind of models for [TS]

01:09:52   Tony Stark in some ways it's funny [TS]

01:09:55   because he blows and blows off which is [TS]

01:09:57   yeah yeah sure sure but yeah there's the [TS]

01:09:59   dead up to the Oracle cloud and this [TS]

01:10:01   magical Cloud things happening and then [TS]

01:10:03   you have the kid gets filed and actually [TS]

01:10:04   got an email from somebody who the [TS]

01:10:06   people of whatever city in Tennessee [TS]

01:10:08   that supposed to be there in their files [TS]

01:10:11   their chamber of commerce send out [TS]

01:10:13   actually press release I'm not kidding [TS]

01:10:14   that was like we have fast internet [TS]

01:10:16   access here I don't know what this movie [TS]

01:10:17   it's like no that was the point of the [TS]

01:10:19   community through the kid doesn't have [TS]

01:10:20   fat they get fios at the end you've got [TS]

01:10:23   faster the kid didn't have it and now he [TS]

01:10:25   has it he has fiber optics thank you for [TS]

01:10:28   risin that's crazy the kid also has a [TS]

01:10:31   crazy like he gives him a crazy car [TS]

01:10:33   acharya that's like the city sending out [TS]

01:10:35   of things like no we have cars here [TS]

01:10:37   yes yeah and also this kid can't drive [TS]

01:10:40   internal combustion has reached our [TS]

01:10:43   first in Tennessee [TS]

01:10:44   yeah along with extremist engines well [TS]

01:10:48   so i think this was a successful episode [TS]

01:10:51   of the uncomfortable and I think it was [TS]

01:10:52   a successful movie which is nice because [TS]

01:10:53   it could have been so much worse but it [TS]

01:10:57   was good it was fun and it's not you [TS]

01:10:59   know maybe kiss kiss bang bang which [TS]

01:11:01   like I said it's a really great movie [TS]

01:11:03   right by shane black star Robert Downey [TS]

01:11:05   jr. absolutely go watch go watch that [TS]

01:11:07   and val kilmer of real genius fame in [TS]

01:11:10   another great very different but very [TS]

01:11:13   great part well so this is great i want [TS]

01:11:15   to thank you guys for coming on and [TS]

01:11:17   talking about iron man with me and by [TS]

01:11:18   tony stark he is iron man whether he's [TS]

01:11:21   in the suit or not and and thanks of [TS]

01:11:23   course to everybody out there listening [TS]

01:11:25   to be uncomfortable so I want to as I as [TS]

01:11:28   is my custom i'm going to thank my guess [TS]

01:11:30   individually Scott McNulty thank you for [TS]

01:11:33   being on episode and not one involving [TS]

01:11:35   books which is shocking but you do [TS]

01:11:37   occasionally go see movies and watch [TS]

01:11:38   television shows so thank you [TS]

01:11:40   true i don't recall books general yeah [TS]

01:11:42   but that I don't put them down they are [TS]

01:11:44   valued and inspirational form of art [TS]

01:11:47   just for you just let me that's fair no [TS]

01:11:50   no I don't know where to start there's [TS]

01:11:52   something I get it [TS]

01:11:53   so which will get your list and you can [TS]

01:11:55   ignored that's fine [TS]

01:11:57   Lisa speiser thanks again for being here [TS]

01:11:59   it was my pleasure as always it was [TS]

01:12:01   great to have you and guy english it's [TS]

01:12:04   been a while the that we've been talking [TS]

01:12:06   about maybe someday having you on is I [TS]

01:12:09   was almost at the point where was [TS]

01:12:11   accepting that like you know what I'm [TS]

01:12:12   never going to be on ever gonna be on [TS]

01:12:14   and maybe that's ok maybe you know [TS]

01:12:16   that's the moment that is it just like [TS]

01:12:18   when Tony except that he has to blow up [TS]

01:12:20   the suits and because the iron man who [TS]

01:12:22   lives within the moment you realize that [TS]

01:12:23   you're never going to be on the podcast [TS]

01:12:25   right on man just learned this [TS]

01:12:27   that's the moment where you know yeah [TS]

01:12:28   i'd like to thank million from breaking [TS]

01:12:30   the glass ceiling and yeah getting a [TS]

01:12:32   symbol not sure sure that's going to get [TS]

01:12:36   this first timers on the clock and it's [TS]

01:12:37   always good but this was this is great [TS]

01:12:39   so thanks to you guys and thanks to [TS]

01:12:41   everybody out there for listening to the [TS]

01:12:42   uncomfortable until next time I am your [TS]
