00:00:00   the incomparable podcast episode 113 [TS]

00:00:10   when Jason's now Dan Lauren serenity [TS]

00:00:14   Caldwell Lex Leland recorded lime a [TS]

00:00:18   disabled in Congress in montreal canada [TS]

00:00:21   October granted well [TS]

00:00:26   flex this is music from Indiana Jane see [TS]

00:00:39   reason of movies starring Harrison Ford [TS]

00:00:43   right you may know him [TS]

00:00:45   have you seen Star Wars some of them yes [TS]

00:00:47   okay he got one of the guys if you [TS]

00:00:49   placed our jar binks I picked that i am [TS]

00:00:53   familiar with Harrison I i have not seen [TS]

00:00:55   Indiana Jones however and yet you're on [TS]

00:00:57   this panel and that you wanted to mock [TS]

00:00:59   me this is the incomparable podcast live [TS]

00:01:02   from the singleton symposium in montreal [TS]

00:01:05   canada we have fled the united states of [TS]

00:01:07   america because they have caught up to [TS]

00:01:09   our crimes after a hundred and twelve or [TS]

00:01:12   so episodes and our topic today is is [TS]

00:01:16   the Indiana Jones series we did a [TS]

00:01:18   podcast with John grouper back in [TS]

00:01:20   episode 9 i want to say something like [TS]

00:01:23   that donator nanya about raiders of the [TS]

00:01:25   lost ark where Dannan and john and i [TS]

00:01:27   just talked about how great it was but [TS]

00:01:29   we thought we would come back and try to [TS]

00:01:30   do something less obscure for something [TS]

00:01:32   where we actually have people watching [TS]

00:01:34   us talk and so we're going to talk about [TS]

00:01:36   everybody's favorite archaeologists / [TS]

00:01:40   teacher indiana jones i actually just [TS]

00:01:43   got Louis Leakey is my favorite [TS]

00:01:45   archaeologists slideshow floor almost [TS]

00:01:47   too bad for you know it's everything's [TS]

00:01:49   everybody's favorite archaeologists and [TS]

00:01:50   what is wrong with you actually just got [TS]

00:01:52   a link on twitter right before we [TS]

00:01:54   started to a mcsweeney's article about [TS]

00:01:56   how success has been denied tenure [TS]

00:01:59   because he's really in class and having [TS]

00:02:02   his methods are questionable ethically [TS]

00:02:06   if you recall he climbs out of a window [TS]

00:02:08   to avoid doing office hours so not [TS]

00:02:11   generally the kind of Professor looking [TS]

00:02:13   for hands-on time but since they made [TS]

00:02:15   the institution co-educational the women [TS]

00:02:19   students apparently love him [TS]

00:02:21   that's what I'm told and the men that [TS]

00:02:23   men want to be him [TS]

00:02:24   that's right mainly from Apple's anyway [TS]

00:02:26   joining me i should say for those who [TS]

00:02:28   haven't detected already who these [TS]

00:02:30   people are our Dan Morgan who has seen [TS]

00:02:33   all the movies that [TS]

00:02:34   hello certainly caldwell who has seen [TS]

00:02:37   all the movies right [TS]

00:02:38   even the one we're not talking about [TS]

00:02:39   what we'll talk about it maybe have to [TS]

00:02:42   well at the end and Lex Friedman who [TS]

00:02:44   hasn't seen them [TS]

00:02:45   I don't know why I'm here max hasn't [TS]

00:02:48   seen that's that's Lex has seen many [TS]

00:02:52   movies it's it's not true that he's not [TS]

00:02:54   seen any movies he just hasn't seen any [TS]

00:02:56   movies that anybody else has seen right [TS]

00:02:58   i basically there was a large gap in the [TS]

00:03:00   eighties and early nineties when if the [TS]

00:03:02   movie was fantastical my parents weren't [TS]

00:03:04   interested in they were the arbiters of [TS]

00:03:05   what we got to watch at home so I didn't [TS]

00:03:07   see it [TS]

00:03:08   so relax and I haven't made up for that [TS]

00:03:10   lost time [TS]

00:03:11   what do you know about Indiana Jones I [TS]

00:03:13   want to start before we start talking [TS]

00:03:15   about these movies i would like to quiz [TS]

00:03:16   you just let you see that youtube video [TS]

00:03:18   about the three-year-old explaining Star [TS]

00:03:20   Wars yeah this is basically the same [TS]

00:03:22   thing [TS]

00:03:22   yes only 31 yeah its other that is [TS]

00:03:26   getting this is what I know I know it [TS]

00:03:28   stars Harrison Ford I believe Shawn [TS]

00:03:30   consciousness will do that yes Sean [TS]

00:03:32   Connery's island over in the fourth one [TS]

00:03:34   that people don't like that had the [TS]

00:03:35   nuclear bomb that he hides from a [TS]

00:03:37   refrigerator right doing great so far [TS]

00:03:40   yes it's like you've seen them in the [TS]

00:03:41   first 1i think the first one I don't [TS]

00:03:43   know which title goes with which movie [TS]

00:03:44   but in the first one there's the big [TS]

00:03:46   boulder that he runs away from yes and [TS]

00:03:49   everything I know about the first movie [TS]

00:03:51   i know from UHF and there's a thing [TS]

00:03:54   where he's got a bag of sand that he's [TS]

00:03:55   gotta replace the weight and he's got a [TS]

00:03:57   time right after that the see you've [TS]

00:03:59   seen the weird al yankovic parody of ya [TS]

00:04:01   see but not the actual movie and I know [TS]

00:04:02   there's one of the odm that I know that [TS]

00:04:05   at the end the the Nazis spoiler alert [TS]

00:04:08   get fried when the Ark of the Covenant [TS]

00:04:10   opens I know that happens that is [TS]

00:04:13   approximately he is basically seen it [TS]

00:04:15   for them [TS]

00:04:16   he's seen the first five minutes in the [TS]

00:04:18   last five minutes there's nothing in the [TS]

00:04:19   middle right I know about the scene we [TS]

00:04:21   talked about where there's the Harrisons [TS]

00:04:23   got the gun and there's something else [TS]

00:04:25   with a sword and he just shoots the guy [TS]

00:04:27   with the sword instead of sword fighting [TS]

00:04:28   that's 30 seconds in the middle [TS]

00:04:29   something so I've essentially as the [TS]

00:04:31   audience our bases are covered [TS]

00:04:33   really shit so I grabbed two thumbs up [TS]

00:04:36   so when you weren't on our Raiders of [TS]

00:04:39   the Lost podcast but this is where that [TS]

00:04:40   this is where the whole series starts [TS]

00:04:42   and that's one of my favorite movies of [TS]

00:04:43   all time we should probably talk about [TS]

00:04:45   at least briefly although i just bought [TS]

00:04:47   that the blu-ray set of this which comes [TS]

00:04:49   with all four movies by the way you [TS]

00:04:50   cannot buy all four movies [TS]

00:04:53   meaning you get the kingdom of the [TS]

00:04:54   crystal skull which is this i believe [TS]

00:04:56   was animated with claymation monkeys [TS]

00:04:59   something i don't know that's why I [TS]

00:05:01   maintain that movie would have been way [TS]

00:05:03   better if you know how everybody in the [TS]

00:05:05   Jones family is afraid of something like [TS]

00:05:06   Indiana Jones afraid of snakes didn't [TS]

00:05:08   know that i know and his dad's afraid of [TS]

00:05:12   rats i thought it would be much better [TS]

00:05:14   if his son had been afraid of monkeys [TS]

00:05:16   and so you can get the line you know [TS]

00:05:19   monkeys by dividing monkeys that would [TS]

00:05:21   have made my didn't happen so on the on [TS]

00:05:24   the blu-ray which looks beautiful and i [TS]

00:05:25   know you just saw the imax release which [TS]

00:05:28   preceded the blu-ray coming out but it [TS]

00:05:30   is it has this terrible revisionism in [TS]

00:05:32   it which it is now labeled as indiana [TS]

00:05:35   jones and the raiders of the lost ark [TS]

00:05:36   which is not the name but they decided [TS]

00:05:38   to insert that because it's it's like [TS]

00:05:40   that's as close to steven spielberg [TS]

00:05:42   comes to George Lucas level at least [TS]

00:05:44   even replace all the guns with [TS]

00:05:46   walkie-talkies liquidity that was awful [TS]

00:05:48   it was something that will not he has [TS]

00:05:49   since apologized and reverse it would [TS]

00:05:51   not make any sense of the guy with the [TS]

00:05:52   sword with the sword i want my [TS]

00:05:54   walkie-talkie and he falls down that [TS]

00:05:56   doesn't make any 7th Indiana Jones [TS]

00:05:58   single were you doing so so you have [TS]

00:06:01   things you'd like to say rant about [TS]

00:06:02   writers block start about righteousness [TS]

00:06:03   are so great well my mother is a huge [TS]

00:06:07   Indiana Jones fan and raised me to be a [TS]

00:06:09   huge Indiana Jones fan [TS]

00:06:10   although elects raised me to be a huge [TS]

00:06:13   fan of the first and the third movie i [TS]

00:06:14   don't think i've seen temple of doom [TS]

00:06:16   since I was seven and I think I've only [TS]

00:06:18   seen it once or twice but Last Crusade [TS]

00:06:20   was pretty much on repeat in our house [TS]

00:06:23   where my mother would just go around not [TS]

00:06:24   necessarily always on the telly [TS]

00:06:26   vision but she would be quoting it [TS]

00:06:27   constantly so like no ticket was [TS]

00:06:29   sometimes a very popular line like when [TS]

00:06:31   she was giving my friends rides in our [TS]

00:06:34   minivan where she throw one of them out [TS]

00:06:36   of the purse and everything noticing it [TS]

00:06:38   but now is I'm indiana jones in general [TS]

00:06:42   is just a sort of cultural mainstay for [TS]

00:06:43   my mom in in the house and raiders i [TS]

00:06:47   hadn't i hadn't actually seen Raiders in [TS]

00:06:49   a couple years until the 35 millimeter [TS]

00:06:51   restoration which is very very poor of [TS]

00:06:54   me I know but I i came back to it [TS]

00:06:57   I out of sheer luck because i think you [TS]

00:06:59   told me about a 35-millimeter screening [TS]

00:07:01   happening in mill valley last year that [TS]

00:07:04   happen to have all of well all of the [TS]

00:07:07   heads of the effects Department [TS]

00:07:09   thereafter they showing to answer [TS]

00:07:12   questions and one of them poles this [TS]

00:07:14   little time like that at the end of the [TS]

00:07:15   film you know the Nazis get incinerated [TS]

00:07:17   but before they get incinerated they're [TS]

00:07:19   like oh you know what we are going to [TS]

00:07:21   film the opening of the Ark of the [TS]

00:07:23   Covenant for posterity we're gonna you [TS]

00:07:24   know we're going to see and take this [TS]

00:07:27   film and send it back to the Third Reich [TS]

00:07:29   and so they can see our glory and our [TS]

00:07:30   you know our magic I accept you know [TS]

00:07:33   that doesn't go so well for them in the [TS]

00:07:35   film camera melts and you know but I to [TS]

00:07:37   do that they use maquettes spoiler I and [TS]

00:07:41   one of the guys are ability to react [TS]

00:07:43   small model little yeah but sometimes I [TS]

00:07:47   made out of clay sometimes made out of [TS]

00:07:48   several various plastics but I the one [TS]

00:07:51   of the props guys who is there [TS]

00:07:53   he's like oh yeah i have that i have the [TS]

00:07:55   film or the the little camera in my [TS]

00:07:57   pocket you want to come see you just [TS]

00:07:59   don't sit out the terrible why but [TS]

00:08:01   everybody's do not do not follow that I [TS]

00:08:03   have my cats for raiders of the lost ark [TS]

00:08:05   money and my pain my car [TS]

00:08:07   actually I know he pulls out this tiny [TS]

00:08:10   little camera and it's only you know I [TS]

00:08:11   I'm gesturing for our real audience but [TS]

00:08:14   our radio audience it's only about you [TS]

00:08:16   know and an inch or two tall this little [TS]

00:08:18   tiny things like here you want to hold [TS]

00:08:20   it and I'm like yeah [TS]

00:08:22   this but so that mean that was really [TS]

00:08:25   cool and the way to a woman's heart is [TS]

00:08:27   through models [TS]

00:08:28   yes little tiny monster monster movies [TS]

00:08:31   amazing movies that I love dearly [TS]

00:08:33   how old were you when you saw it for the [TS]

00:08:34   first time because it's a little weird i [TS]

00:08:35   just showed my kids rid of the lost ark [TS]

00:08:37   and and it's a little bit scary [TS]

00:08:40   I mean that plus people like melt at the [TS]

00:08:42   end which is a little harsh [TS]

00:08:44   you know the strange i think i saw last [TS]

00:08:47   crusade before I saw a raiders because i [TS]

00:08:50   think my mother deemed that more you [TS]

00:08:52   know more more child-friendly yeah well [TS]

00:08:54   I mean there are there are some you know [TS]

00:08:57   scary things in i mean there's a guy [TS]

00:09:00   melting away into nothingness and bones [TS]

00:09:03   and betta other than I but that also [TS]

00:09:06   happens in rare so what was the movie [TS]

00:09:08   your kids introduction to Nazis Jason [TS]

00:09:09   that's a good question i was gonna say [TS]

00:09:12   that is actually the one more than ok [TS]

00:09:14   cool part so the reality is my kids knew [TS]

00:09:16   the entire plot of all three movies [TS]

00:09:18   before they ever saw the movies because [TS]

00:09:21   of lego indiana jones which they played [TS]

00:09:24   all the way through and this is actually [TS]

00:09:25   troops the Star Wars movies 2 which is a [TS]

00:09:27   really bizarre way to be introduced to a [TS]

00:09:29   movie series is to know the plot but [TS]

00:09:31   retold through kind of wacky lego high [TS]

00:09:34   jinks because they don't and they don't [TS]

00:09:35   say anything there's no dialogue no no [TS]

00:09:38   they cry and they laugh and and and [TS]

00:09:40   there are like movie references that the [TS]

00:09:42   kids kind of don't get it all so i'm [TS]

00:09:44   very curious uh how do they handle the [TS]

00:09:46   face melting seen Raiders in lego [TS]

00:09:48   indiana jones no i don't know i think i [TS]

00:09:50   think there's just a big explosion in [TS]

00:09:52   May and their blocks that all they were [TS]

00:09:54   blown two blocks right [TS]

00:09:56   nothing looks just like the Nazis [TS]

00:09:58   deserved yeah I think that's what they [TS]

00:10:00   know about that and I have an issue in [TS]

00:10:02   Raiders of the Lost Ark be the Nazis are [TS]

00:10:04   there they're scary they're they're not [TS]

00:10:08   i mean there are competent to a certain [TS]

00:10:10   extent and then beyond that I mean the [TS]

00:10:12   truck eat there are better ways to move [TS]

00:10:14   of a piece of valuable historical [TS]

00:10:16   content through the desert rather than [TS]

00:10:19   having sort of what a guy in a truck [TS]

00:10:20   with a couple of guys in the back and [TS]

00:10:22   then a car and then the guys in car [TS]

00:10:25   watches the truck is slowly assaulted [TS]

00:10:28   and a plane Jackson that well then they [TS]

00:10:30   blew it up but apparently Nazis can't [TS]

00:10:32   drive like the the level of competence [TS]

00:10:35   in that driving squad and envy you know [TS]

00:10:38   general competence shot squad is very [TS]

00:10:40   low feel like oh yeah we're just we're [TS]

00:10:42   just gonna watch this guy you know this [TS]

00:10:45   guy with the hat come and take over [TS]

00:10:46   literally just watch as Indiana Jones [TS]

00:10:49   could gradually takes control of the [TS]

00:10:52   truck they don't want to crash into the [TS]

00:10:54   truck they don't try to slow down they [TS]

00:10:56   they just sort of like no no there's an [TS]

00:10:57   action scene going on just it's cool [TS]

00:10:59   let's watch what i want to tell me a pro [TS]

00:11:02   and I there's probably there's one thing [TS]

00:11:05   in that action chase scene where I think [TS]

00:11:07   all the Nazis were either in the back of [TS]

00:11:09   the truck or the Nazis in like the truck [TS]

00:11:11   next door that eventually come over they [TS]

00:11:12   all have this like oh there's something [TS]

00:11:14   exciting happen we get to go [TS]

00:11:15   participated and they start climbing [TS]

00:11:17   over one by one is that is that behind [TS]

00:11:19   the truck is that the transmittance the [TS]

00:11:21   guys the guys in the truck climb over [TS]

00:11:22   the obvious you're going back this [TS]

00:11:24   really excited look like oh we're going [TS]

00:11:26   to get to do something rather than stand [TS]

00:11:28   around and watch people dig room and [TS]

00:11:30   they all died [TS]

00:11:31   yeah they'll die I don't know the [TS]

00:11:32   downfall of the Third Reich was their [TS]

00:11:33   inability to obey traffic laws but the [TS]

00:11:36   Nazis and the Raiders are scary and in [TS]

00:11:38   somewhat competent and and Minnesota [TS]

00:11:41   medicine menacing and you got towed who [TS]

00:11:43   is the guy who goes to visit he follows [TS]

00:11:46   indie on the on the plane and then he [TS]

00:11:48   goes to Marion's bar and it almost [TS]

00:11:51   brings her face with a red-hot poker and [TS]

00:11:54   ends up with the the impression of the [TS]

00:11:57   staff on burned into his hand mean he's [TS]

00:12:00   a scary guy so scary in fact that when [TS]

00:12:03   he takes off his coat and is a making a [TS]

00:12:06   little metal little a little hanger it [TS]

00:12:09   you think that he's got a torture device [TS]

00:12:11   but it turns out he's just gonna hang [TS]

00:12:12   his coat up but he's really scary and [TS]

00:12:14   the Nazis in general scary with the [TS]

00:12:16   problem i have with last crusade is that [TS]

00:12:19   the Nazis in that movie or more like [TS]

00:12:20   like the like Boss Hogg from the Dukes [TS]

00:12:23   of Hazzard here a little there a little [TS]

00:12:26   bit wackier and incompetent which I [TS]

00:12:28   don't think doesn't but all those movie [TS]

00:12:30   set [TS]

00:12:31   like in the late thirties early forties [TS]

00:12:32   is it happening during World War Two [TS]

00:12:34   idea is once again so we have you know [TS]

00:12:36   you have Raiders and then [TS]

00:12:38   Temple of Doom is actually a prequel I [TS]

00:12:40   don't say you're too early and 236 yeah [TS]

00:12:44   and then last year's which takes place [TS]

00:12:46   of those three movies are our buddy or [TS]

00:12:49   fighting World War two and then that [TS]

00:12:51   fourth movie is is set like in the [TS]

00:12:53   actual sort of time just distance within [TS]

00:12:55   the fifties so when you're the second [TS]

00:12:58   one he said is a prequel then so there's [TS]

00:13:00   no you never fear for his life if you [TS]

00:13:02   know that he will rest don't know I was [TS]

00:13:04   gonna say that if their first movie that [TS]

00:13:05   you saw his last crusade you know you [TS]

00:13:07   know he's probably okay because I'm [TS]

00:13:08   gonna get that kind of movie anyways [TS]

00:13:10   doesn't matter it's a rock right it was [TS]

00:13:12   really fun movie you know James Bond's [TS]

00:13:13   never gonna die they're not gonna kill [TS]

00:13:15   him off or will then I mean the only [TS]

00:13:17   leaves too many so just bring in another [TS]

00:13:20   yeah we didn't know the Nazis are [TS]

00:13:21   considerably more bumbling in Last [TS]

00:13:23   Crusade I don't think that's necessarily [TS]

00:13:26   a problem totally it's a very different [TS]

00:13:27   movie it's a lot it's a lot more comedic [TS]

00:13:29   I mean not say the Raiders isn't funny [TS]

00:13:31   and witty and there are clever lines of [TS]

00:13:33   dialogue is clever and set pieces but [TS]

00:13:34   the last crusade is clearly much more of [TS]

00:13:37   a character-driven p-side saying in some [TS]

00:13:39   ways and it's really about the [TS]

00:13:41   relationship between Andy and his dad [TS]

00:13:43   and it's edit is lighter and I think one [TS]

00:13:45   of the reasons it's lighter and [TS]

00:13:46   strainers has some darkness in it and [TS]

00:13:49   some funny things and but it's and i [TS]

00:13:51   love that movie so much the second movie [TS]

00:13:53   which we should talk about at least a [TS]

00:13:56   little bit and I don't particularly like [TS]

00:13:58   about them the first five or ten minutes [TS]

00:14:00   is really dark and I feel like the third [TS]

00:14:02   movie is lighter and more Robbie [TS]

00:14:06   partially I think as backlash it because [TS]

00:14:09   it was that movie was criticized and not [TS]

00:14:11   really liked by a lot of people because [TS]

00:14:13   it was so dark I mean people like [TS]

00:14:14   ripping people's hardly because i [TS]

00:14:16   believe it was the first movie ever to [TS]

00:14:18   have a pg-13 rating was the first one to [TS]

00:14:20   have it was the were the one that [TS]

00:14:22   necessitated they needed to have another [TS]

00:14:25   rating because people were taking their [TS]

00:14:26   kids to see this movie and it was really [TS]

00:14:28   dark and scary it's the opening sequence [TS]

00:14:30   in as families do miss grade right with [TS]

00:14:33   which is what kate capshaw singing [TS]

00:14:37   anything goes in in Chinese except [TS]

00:14:40   during yeah yeah yeahs which is great [TS]

00:14:43   but it felt like I mean what i liked [TS]

00:14:44   about it was that and Shanghai right it [TS]

00:14:46   feels it feels a little bit like a James [TS]

00:14:48   Bond movie there's this scene where [TS]

00:14:50   indeed [TS]

00:14:50   he's wearing a tux and he's basically [TS]

00:14:53   there to like make a trade off for this [TS]

00:14:54   this gem accident down at the tables [TS]

00:14:57   that have moved it over the lazy susan [TS]

00:14:58   and then it's sort of like there's this [TS]

00:15:00   constant shift of power back and forth [TS]

00:15:02   where he and this gangster sort of [TS]

00:15:04   trying to outdo each other than the guy [TS]

00:15:06   turns out the guys poisoned him and has [TS]

00:15:08   the antidote so we need to get the [TS]

00:15:09   antidote and of course all hell breaks [TS]

00:15:10   loose and they're running around and [TS]

00:15:12   it's a little more slap sticky at that [TS]

00:15:13   point but there is it reminds me of a [TS]

00:15:15   james bond set because there's a giant [TS]

00:15:16   diamond and there's the vial containing [TS]

00:15:20   the antidote and there's a a riot on [TS]

00:15:23   this dance floor and both of those [TS]

00:15:25   objects are being kicked throughout as [TS]

00:15:28   as kate capshaw is seeking the diamond [TS]

00:15:30   than India seeking his his a vial of [TS]

00:15:33   antidote [TS]

00:15:34   I would just point out that whatever de [TS]

00:15:35   Morgan's on the dance floor there's a [TS]

00:15:37   ride on the dance floor [TS]

00:15:38   it's true he's a very good dancer [TS]

00:15:40   little-known fact about the morning [TS]

00:15:41   thanks Lex any other thoughts you have [TS]

00:15:43   about the what do you do you know [TS]

00:15:45   anything about the second moving but I [TS]

00:15:47   you just mentioned that somebody rip [TS]

00:15:49   somebody's heart out of your chest yeah [TS]

00:15:50   that's about all that's pretty scary [TS]

00:15:52   yes it is the first is the person live [TS]

00:15:54   to see the heart rate down [TS]

00:15:56   I don't think so no well yeah it's not i [TS]

00:15:59   don't i really don't like the temple of [TS]

00:16:02   doom I think it's a real angel i skip it [TS]

00:16:03   because Dave risk is yes the whole city [TS]

00:16:05   should use good watching the first 10 [TS]

00:16:06   minutes watch until they bail out of the [TS]

00:16:08   plane there's a great isn't mine mine [TS]

00:16:10   sequence there's a great laugh line when [TS]

00:16:14   they get to the airport and you think [TS]

00:16:15   everything is resolved and he slams the [TS]

00:16:17   door shut on the airplane and and nice [TS]

00:16:20   trial oj and he closes the door and it [TS]

00:16:22   says /a air freight like okay [TS]

00:16:25   unaenda cameo a brief cameo rip dan [TS]

00:16:27   Aykroyd yeah strange why is he and yeah [TS]

00:16:29   because doing a British accent there's [TS]

00:16:31   the whole mind chase thing that the end [TS]

00:16:33   set-pieces really well done [TS]

00:16:34   there's you know a couple nice action [TS]

00:16:36   sequences at the end there's a lot of [TS]

00:16:38   gross out stuff right there's that other [TS]

00:16:40   is there's a whole banquet of like [TS]

00:16:42   delicacies which are all these really [TS]

00:16:43   like monkey brain res yeah and the two [TS]

00:16:46   things I remember it's really a bit [TS]

00:16:48   differently in my head again totally [TS]

00:16:50   it's very weird and then there's a scene [TS]

00:16:51   with a bunch of bugs around whether and [TS]

00:16:54   then they're gonna get crushed by these [TS]

00:16:56   giant rocks and I don't know I kind of [TS]

00:16:59   like short round [TS]

00:17:00   I am you sure [TS]

00:17:01   down to is a kind of a cool side [TS]

00:17:03   characters you see you ever seen the [TS]

00:17:04   goonies know is i just used and what is [TS]

00:17:09   the reason we brought you here but I [TS]

00:17:12   mean there isn't there a couple nights [TS]

00:17:13   set pieces in Temple of Doom i think but [TS]

00:17:15   overall it lacks the residence in many [TS]

00:17:18   ways and I think part of that for me as [TS]

00:17:20   a kid was knowing about these movies in [TS]

00:17:23   knowing walnut in the first movie goes [TS]

00:17:24   after the ark of the covenant which is a [TS]

00:17:26   fairly prominent you know archaeological [TS]

00:17:29   artifact in the third movie goes after [TS]

00:17:31   the Holy Grail which is obviously you're [TS]

00:17:33   pretty prominent and the second one is [TS]

00:17:35   about these rocks [TS]

00:17:37   that's why and like a death cult right [TS]

00:17:40   that's right and its kind of Holly's [TS]

00:17:42   death cold it's kind of not it doesn't [TS]

00:17:43   resonate as well I think in some ways [TS]

00:17:45   because it's not as much of a pop [TS]

00:17:47   culture thing [TS]

00:17:49   yeah well and even India has his off [TS]

00:17:51   days but that doesn't necessarily mean [TS]

00:17:52   we have to watch him [TS]

00:17:54   the thing that drives me the most crazy [TS]

00:17:57   about Temple of Doom is that Kate [TS]

00:17:59   Capshaw is such ilike kate capshaw [TS]

00:18:01   outside of this movie inside of this [TS]

00:18:03   movie she's the most screeching in [TS]

00:18:05   comprehensible completely impossible to [TS]

00:18:09   deal with character who just seems to [TS]

00:18:10   get in a lot of trouble and doesn't [TS]

00:18:12   really do anything I mean you know [TS]

00:18:14   Marion in the first movie gets in a lot [TS]

00:18:16   of trouble but she at least smart talks [TS]

00:18:19   are way out of some things and she's [TS]

00:18:21   she's got some point she's got spunk [TS]

00:18:23   she's confident she survived in the [TS]

00:18:25   you-know-what where she didn't Islander [TS]

00:18:27   not in thailand in Russia where she was [TS]

00:18:30   appalled appalled in the beginning of [TS]

00:18:31   the movie like she survives therefore [TS]

00:18:33   God knows how many years after her [TS]

00:18:35   father dies before I'm winters you can [TS]

00:18:37   happen is you know she's a confident [TS]

00:18:40   character even the not the Nazi woman [TS]

00:18:44   whose name I Elsa race Elsa she's more [TS]

00:18:48   competent like she she is not my [TS]

00:18:50   favorite of the Indiana Jones heroin [TS]

00:18:52   earth the ladies ladies yeah leading [TS]

00:18:55   ladies not but you know Kate Capshaw I [TS]

00:18:58   feel like has no reason for being there [TS]

00:18:59   other than she can sing anything goes in [TS]

00:19:02   Mandarin and she ended up marrying [TS]

00:19:04   steven spielberg so that was really [TS]

00:19:05   great for Steven Spielberg well right in [TS]

00:19:07   Raiders and he's got his [TS]

00:19:09   collects a group as he goes and it's [TS]

00:19:11   ending these competent people he's got [TS]

00:19:13   sala in Egypt and then marian says I'm [TS]

00:19:16   your goddamn partner right so she's [TS]

00:19:18   gonna come along for the ride and the [TS]

00:19:20   second movie it's almost like to get [TS]

00:19:21   saddled with sidekicks and calling out [TS]

00:19:24   of play and made sure around this is [TS]

00:19:26   kind of fun although there is also that [TS]

00:19:28   moment of like why are you why are you [TS]

00:19:30   taking a little kid and having him like [TS]

00:19:31   drive a getaway car through the streets [TS]

00:19:33   of Shanghai while you're being shot at [TS]

00:19:35   anything goes Jayson it's and then so in [TS]

00:19:39   again in the third movie in Last Crusade [TS]

00:19:42   it's like back-to-basics it's let's [TS]

00:19:45   let's go back to the Nazis and [TS]

00:19:46   historical artifact solid is back Marcus [TS]

00:19:49   Brody they dragged him along you tried [TS]

00:19:51   for mocking Charlotte turns is brought [TS]

00:19:53   is brought out from the University and [TS]

00:19:56   we see more of him and it turns out a [TS]

00:19:57   lot of people to survive anything [TS]

00:19:58   you know it's tough because a lot of [TS]

00:20:00   people think he's got this he's got the [TS]

00:20:02   sort of mentor role in the first one [TS]

00:20:03   right he's and so of course in the in [TS]

00:20:05   the last one he ends up being somewhat [TS]

00:20:07   more bumbling but i still love him and [TS]

00:20:09   then home elliott as an actor they're [TS]

00:20:11   doing these things it has such great [TS]

00:20:12   moments would be you know Andy trying to [TS]

00:20:15   convince the Nazis like he'll blend and [TS]

00:20:17   he knows every local culture he speaks [TS]

00:20:18   dozen languages got friends everywhere [TS]

00:20:20   you'll never find him [TS]

00:20:22   Maxine it is insane here speak English [TS]

00:20:24   or perhaps ancient Greek no one's gonna [TS]

00:20:28   do he's been in the ivory tower too long [TS]

00:20:30   I thought you said even blood did you [TS]

00:20:31   know Marcus he got lost in the museum [TS]

00:20:33   once lost his own Museum yeah but it was [TS]

00:20:36   so great to see those characters back [TS]

00:20:38   again I both both solid Marcus in a [TS]

00:20:41   movie and then we of course we get sean [TS]

00:20:43   connery Henry Jones as as as in tennis [TS]

00:20:47   is really what makes the the third movie [TS]

00:20:48   for me is that and what 10 years apart [TS]

00:20:50   in age to it yet we're traveling 12 [TS]

00:20:52   years apart in age so it's sean connery [TS]

00:20:54   really only tenuously able to be [TS]

00:20:56   Harrison Ford father so I love the fact [TS]

00:20:58   that you said you gotta cast you know [TS]

00:21:00   Indiana Jones father who is the only [TS]

00:21:01   person who's badass enough to be Indiana [TS]

00:21:03   Jones father james bond and yet he plays [TS]

00:21:06   totally against high prairie and he does [TS]

00:21:08   a fantastic job of this you know [TS]

00:21:10   professor you know professor of [TS]

00:21:12   archaeology like his son but they're [TS]

00:21:13   also they don't talk they're estranged [TS]

00:21:16   they have this very difficult [TS]

00:21:17   relationship you get the hinted support [TS]

00:21:19   that you know his mother was sick and [TS]

00:21:21   didn't tell [TS]

00:21:22   his father and so she died and left him [TS]

00:21:25   to raise india by himself right and they [TS]

00:21:28   they're very strained and they have even [TS]

00:21:29   though they work in the same field [TS]

00:21:31   there's a certain element of you know [TS]

00:21:33   the competitiveness and it to me [TS]

00:21:37   it resonates as a father-son [TS]

00:21:38   relationship they do a great job of [TS]

00:21:40   capturing that there's a brilliant [TS]

00:21:42   moment where the riding on this [TS]

00:21:44   motorcycle in the sidecar and their plan [TS]

00:21:46   through Nazis and you know it yeah [TS]

00:21:48   Indiana Jones grabs he grabs the flanks [TS]

00:21:50   of Hazzard Nazis but yes he grabs a [TS]

00:21:52   flagpole and there's this guy come up [TS]

00:21:54   and more cycling is on swing his gun and [TS]

00:21:56   he takes flight plan sticks in the guys [TS]

00:21:57   wheel and flips the the motorcycle be [TS]

00:21:59   kind of greens to himself he looks down [TS]

00:22:01   his dad and that just gives him his [TS]

00:22:02   disapproving look checks and watch and [TS]

00:22:04   it's like anyone who's ever you know [TS]

00:22:06   tried to do anything you know any songs [TS]

00:22:09   every right to bottom for their father [TS]

00:22:10   or something like that kind of [TS]

00:22:12   experience that moment or something like [TS]

00:22:14   that when you're with your day [TS]

00:22:16   never never never he's never run away [TS]

00:22:18   from Nazis with your dad you get in the [TS]

00:22:20   sidecar of your motorcycle on your way [TS]

00:22:23   to Berlin to get the fewer to sign an [TS]

00:22:25   autograph its last a lot of stuff [TS]

00:22:27   my favorite moment there is actually [TS]

00:22:30   when Indy first runs into his father and [TS]

00:22:32   by runs into I mean he smashes through a [TS]

00:22:34   window where his father is being held [TS]

00:22:35   captive in a formerly is it was like ask [TS]

00:22:39   it's supposed to be a castle or Austrian [TS]

00:22:41   border yes so he crashes through the [TS]

00:22:43   window and henry john senior hit him [TS]

00:22:45   over the head with a fake replica vat of [TS]

00:22:48   Oz and he falls always like I was like [TS]

00:22:50   junior any ghost is like yes sir [TS]

00:22:53   it's like he's just gonna hit over there [TS]

00:22:54   I thought you were one of them [TS]

00:22:56   dad they come into the door code and [TS]

00:22:59   you've seen this movie a lot of this is [TS]

00:23:01   one of your favorite movies is that is [TS]

00:23:02   one of my favorite movies i did like [TS]

00:23:03   like when I saw it first [TS]

00:23:05   um in it was something I saw in my [TS]

00:23:07   aunt's house when I was kid you're so [TS]

00:23:10   young i know i saw this i saw to the [TS]

00:23:13   movie theater in college you're killing [TS]

00:23:16   me here [TS]

00:23:16   well at least I saw already by the time [TS]

00:23:18   it come out was not married he had no no [TS]

00:23:20   I was doing some favors but I and I went [TS]

00:23:22   back from there to fill in i mean i [TS]

00:23:24   remember my experience watching it then [TS]

00:23:26   and I really liked it and then I went [TS]

00:23:28   over to my friend Evan's house when I [TS]

00:23:30   was in high school and a bunch of us [TS]

00:23:31   were there for a sleepover for his [TS]

00:23:33   birthday when we were like 15 16 or [TS]

00:23:35   something like that [TS]

00:23:35   your hands like always watch all three [TS]

00:23:36   Indiana Jones movies we watch the [TS]

00:23:38   raiders of the lost ark start to watch [TS]

00:23:40   temple of doom we got through the first [TS]

00:23:41   10 minutes ago the rest of this movie [TS]

00:23:42   sucks turns about that we went to last [TS]

00:23:43   year's day and watch the rest of that [TS]

00:23:44   but yeah I don't know that maybe it's [TS]

00:23:48   just cuz the comedic aspect you know I [TS]

00:23:50   think really I i really enjoy that and I [TS]

00:23:52   really enjoyed the dynamic between her [TS]

00:23:54   support and sean connery there's a mean [TS]

00:23:56   there's a lot of reasons to like the [TS]

00:23:58   Last Crusade I wanted to before we talk [TS]

00:24:00   about that a little bit more i wanted to [TS]

00:24:02   talk about something that I think makes [TS]

00:24:03   Indiana Jones a great action hero which [TS]

00:24:06   is the fact that he is affected and [TS]

00:24:07   troubled and and isn't he's rumpled he's [TS]

00:24:12   he's you know he he gets hurt [TS]

00:24:15   he has phobias he he gets kind of [TS]

00:24:18   tormented and you can tell that it that [TS]

00:24:21   these things bother him and that [TS]

00:24:22   includes his father treating him kind of [TS]

00:24:25   badly and you can tell that it upsets [TS]

00:24:27   him in the in the first movie he gets [TS]

00:24:29   beat up and and you know he's not [TS]

00:24:31   impervious when he gets beat up he feels [TS]

00:24:33   it and in it hurts all over except like [TS]

00:24:36   here right here honey it's the mileage [TS]

00:24:38   yeah yeah and that's one of the things I [TS]

00:24:40   love about that character is that he [TS]

00:24:41   doesn't he doesn't show us that he's [TS]

00:24:43   this impervious superhero he's in fact [TS]

00:24:45   really human and can really get hurt and [TS]

00:24:48   get angry and and also just be annoyed [TS]

00:24:51   right which i think in the second movie [TS]

00:24:53   that's I mean that's the reason Kate [TS]

00:24:55   Capshaw's there is really just to bug [TS]

00:24:57   him and she does a great books everybody [TS]

00:24:59   was happy to remind me a lot of John [TS]

00:25:01   McClane to from die hard right Sam [TS]

00:25:03   certainly feels like they're very [TS]

00:25:05   vulnerable right and to me we actually [TS]

00:25:07   we had a discussion about this when we [TS]

00:25:08   watch Last Crusade about the end scene [TS]

00:25:12   where they you know try to force indeed [TS]

00:25:14   to basically we gotta find you know the [TS]

00:25:16   you gotta go get the Grail right and to [TS]

00:25:19   save your damsel and you know the guy's [TS]

00:25:20   got a gun on musically you can't shoot [TS]

00:25:22   me is like you know what you're right [TS]

00:25:23   and shoots his dad which i think is just [TS]

00:25:25   one of the brilliant moments of your [TS]

00:25:27   right there is no threat to that from [TS]

00:25:29   either from him he knows he's not it's [TS]

00:25:31   not an issue that because they need they [TS]

00:25:33   need him to get it and from us as the [TS]

00:25:35   audience we know it's Indiana Jones he's [TS]

00:25:37   not gonna he's not a threat but like [TS]

00:25:40   Superman for example which is another [TS]

00:25:42   great example he is impervious right so [TS]

00:25:44   there's never any threat to Superman [TS]

00:25:45   let's do the whole kryptonite thing but [TS]

00:25:47   the way to get Superman [TS]

00:25:48   to get to the people that he loves that [TS]

00:25:50   is that is the way to make that have [TS]

00:25:52   steaks is by putting those people in [TS]

00:25:55   jeopardy applies if you personally this [TS]

00:25:57   is real kryptonite [TS]

00:25:58   let's say you heard of Superman i have [TS]

00:25:59   heard Superman i have not seen die hard [TS]

00:26:01   oh wow put on the list put on the list [TS]

00:26:06   lacquer sing list but one of the nice [TS]

00:26:09   things about and I know another movie [TS]

00:26:12   that you loved and especially as [TS]

00:26:13   Lawrence of Arabia yes I and we share [TS]

00:26:16   that I i love that movie too especially [TS]

00:26:17   the 1st half 2nd half a little dark but [TS]

00:26:19   still got a classic right one of the [TS]

00:26:22   nice things about the scope of the last [TS]

00:26:24   crusade is that they are out in the [TS]

00:26:26   desert and they're there are you know it [TS]

00:26:28   feels big [TS]

00:26:30   yes it is an epic and going out having [TS]

00:26:33   them out in the desert miss that hold [TS]

00:26:34   like the tank battle and they're dead [TS]

00:26:36   they're going through the sand and the [TS]

00:26:38   writing on the horses at the end and [TS]

00:26:39   there's everything that's in the caves [TS]

00:26:41   it's just I i love that whole part [TS]

00:26:43   because it's such a tank battle goes on [TS]

00:26:46   maybe a little too long but it's such a [TS]

00:26:47   it's a such a balance 0 [TS]

00:26:49   yeah it really is that it feels wide [TS]

00:26:51   open and epic in a in a classic movie [TS]

00:26:53   kind of way [TS]

00:26:55   arg it's got claws 14 units are not [TS]

00:26:57   random vistas hello i believe has often [TS]

00:27:02   been speaking or a lot of that scene the [TS]

00:27:03   tank sequence was in Spain Spain it's [TS]

00:27:06   got some terrain that they can double [TS]

00:27:07   for ya [TS]

00:27:08   although the tank battle does give us [TS]

00:27:10   that lovely moment at the end but the [TS]

00:27:11   tape goes over the cliff and sean [TS]

00:27:13   connery thinks that Indies also fallen [TS]

00:27:15   over the cliff with it and of course in [TS]

00:27:17   the edge he pulls himself up by the vine [TS]

00:27:19   and all three of them you know Marcus [TS]

00:27:21   insallah and Henry are all like looking [TS]

00:27:23   over the edge and he comes up behind [TS]

00:27:25   them just goes you know look at the [TS]

00:27:27   hands shaking his hand close well as [TS]

00:27:29   close it was down there what are you [TS]

00:27:30   looking at [TS]

00:27:31   yeah so I know I agree there's a [TS]

00:27:34   suitably epic scope to it that you don't [TS]

00:27:36   get in temple of doom which is a much [TS]

00:27:38   more claustrophobic movie [TS]

00:27:39   yeah anyways and there is a plans and [TS]

00:27:41   there are Zeppelin's yes but the one of [TS]

00:27:44   my favorite things in any piece of [TS]

00:27:46   fiction frankly is are there Zeppelin's [TS]

00:27:48   you have to ask question and the answer [TS]

00:27:49   is yes there's a good chance i'm gonna [TS]

00:27:51   like it at the Zeppelin in in Last [TS]

00:27:54   Crusade he where they go on without a [TS]

00:27:57   ticket it's a german [TS]

00:27:59   well they go up they go on I have [TS]

00:28:01   tickets they're they're being hunted [TS]

00:28:02   right and so the idea not see them come [TS]

00:28:05   to Berlin comes to trade like check on [TS]

00:28:08   everybody and of course Harrison Ford [TS]

00:28:09   season doing this and basically dresses [TS]

00:28:12   up as you know the the attended and as [TS]

00:28:14   the Nazis questioning his father tapped [TS]

00:28:16   him on the shoulder and gets that brief [TS]

00:28:18   moment of recognition and indeed just [TS]

00:28:19   throw them out the Zeppelin yeah looks [TS]

00:28:21   around he goes no tako ticket is not [TS]

00:28:24   only got a ticket but another great [TS]

00:28:27   moment there I mean you know you end up [TS]

00:28:28   with a conversation between the the [TS]

00:28:30   henry and India about you know well we [TS]

00:28:33   never really talked when I was a kid me [TS]

00:28:35   that's what we're here now what do you [TS]

00:28:37   want to talk about he's like I can't [TS]

00:28:38   think of anything it's hard it's hard to [TS]

00:28:40   is hard to have I do find it very very [TS]

00:28:44   illuminating the as a relationship [TS]

00:28:46   because it again to that point of him [TS]

00:28:47   being not a Superman you know he has a [TS]

00:28:49   dad right and there's a certain amount [TS]

00:28:52   of vulnerability to having your father [TS]

00:28:55   you know trying to impress on your [TS]

00:28:57   father that you know I'm a grown-up I [TS]

00:28:58   have accomplished things in my life I [TS]

00:29:00   don't do things the way that you do but [TS]

00:29:02   that doesn't mean I'm not successful and [TS]

00:29:05   especially when you know for people who [TS]

00:29:06   end up in similar career paths to their [TS]

00:29:08   fathers you know you get a lot of [TS]

00:29:10   friction i think a lot of times a lot of [TS]

00:29:11   butting heads and records he didn't do [TS]

00:29:13   it the way his dad did oldest [TS]

00:29:15   archaeology different meals good Sean [TS]

00:29:20   Connery should talk a little bit about [TS]

00:29:22   the opening to that movie too since we [TS]

00:29:24   get sort of a nice little flashback to [TS]

00:29:26   what is it is supposed to be 12 [TS]

00:29:28   oh its young Indiana Jones 13 hours with [TS]

00:29:31   river with River Phoenix as young and [TS]

00:29:33   jones and we and we learn the origin of [TS]

00:29:36   Indy's fear of snakes and of that the [TS]

00:29:39   scar that Harrison Ford has on his chin [TS]

00:29:41   that he always has on his chin but in [TS]

00:29:43   this it's explained that he gets it in [TS]

00:29:46   this adventure that he has out again out [TS]

00:29:48   in the wide-open spaces of like it's [TS]

00:29:50   like 1918 and he's 12 and 12 minutes on [TS]

00:29:54   my scalp a railroad duh [TS]

00:29:57   this is a railroad main yes so he's on [TS]

00:29:59   my waist to have a boy scout adventure [TS]

00:30:01   on that day on horses or mules or [TS]

00:30:04   they're tracking After let's explore [TS]

00:30:06   some caves but don't get too lost and of [TS]

00:30:09   course the cave that indie simples upon [TS]

00:30:11   happens [TS]

00:30:12   to be excavated right there are [TS]

00:30:13   necessary figure out and there and there [TS]

00:30:15   archaeologists who yeah it's a fake [TS]

00:30:18   because you think it's gonna be in [TS]

00:30:19   general because you see a guy in a hat [TS]

00:30:21   and there's anything else who has not [TS]

00:30:22   been identified yet yeah but it turns [TS]

00:30:24   out that he is he is a the the bad kind [TS]

00:30:27   of archaeologists right well easy [TS]

00:30:29   I mean I always wondered about that was [TS]

00:30:30   he just Indiana Jones I think he's a [TS]

00:30:31   slightly more mercantile your mercenary [TS]

00:30:35   sorry mercenary Indiana Jones you know [TS]

00:30:37   he's kind of more than the grave robber [TS]

00:30:39   side he's kind of the all the other [TS]

00:30:42   polarizing figure because you've got his [TS]

00:30:43   dad who is the very by-the-book [TS]

00:30:45   archaeologists and you've got this other [TS]

00:30:47   influencing figure who says you know [TS]

00:30:49   leaves him with those you know you lost [TS]

00:30:51   today but you don't have to like it and [TS]

00:30:53   give them the hat and everything you [TS]

00:30:55   know that the end in Raiders Belloc is [TS]

00:30:58   his his competitor and he has that great [TS]

00:31:00   line about where you know we're not that [TS]

00:31:02   different you and i genuinely sad line [TS]

00:31:04   that has been reused everything every [TS]

00:31:06   terrible right it would take only what [TS]

00:31:09   is it one small not just two nights to [TS]

00:31:11   make you like me haha but but that's [TS]

00:31:14   that that's the point is that if you [TS]

00:31:16   look at at what he does he does bring [TS]

00:31:18   mean in Raiders when he got comes back [TS]

00:31:20   he says I got a lot of good pieces and [TS]

00:31:22   the museum will buy them and there is [TS]

00:31:24   that question like is he [TS]

00:31:26   I mean he's kind of a grave robber I [TS]

00:31:27   there's a question about the overall [TS]

00:31:29   ethics of what of what he does and in [TS]

00:31:31   Last Crusade you that's this guy you [TS]

00:31:34   know he you know he is he good is he bad [TS]

00:31:37   he's a lot like indie and that's I think [TS]

00:31:39   that's one of the questions [TS]

00:31:40   well and it's also one of the [TS]

00:31:42   overarching themes of Indiana Jones is a [TS]

00:31:43   character where you know he he's an [TS]

00:31:46   archaeologist first and foremost and he [TS]

00:31:48   is fascinated by certain pieces and [TS]

00:31:51   certain things and those drive him [TS]

00:31:53   forward and it doesn't necessarily no [TS]

00:31:55   laws and rules don't necessarily need to [TS]

00:31:58   matter it's just about getting something [TS]

00:32:00   done and finding a way to do that and [TS]

00:32:02   getting battered up and bruised in the [TS]

00:32:04   process and you see that a little bit in [TS]

00:32:06   the prologue Ruiz you know he's taking [TS]

00:32:08   that piece away from them even though [TS]

00:32:10   they rightfully found it because he's [TS]

00:32:12   like no this is a very important [TS]

00:32:13   historical piece this should be in a [TS]

00:32:14   museum red heels righteous about it he [TS]

00:32:16   carries it on for like 20 more years [TS]

00:32:18   because I mean we we passed through time [TS]

00:32:20   from thirteen-year-old indiana jones two [TS]

00:32:22   you know your late twenties early [TS]

00:32:24   thirties [TS]

00:32:25   en Jones and he's on a boat and he's [TS]

00:32:27   like yes I finally found this piece it's [TS]

00:32:29   only taken me 20 years but hey you know [TS]

00:32:31   a man with his obsessions [TS]

00:32:34   yeah just like his father really i mean [TS]

00:32:36   because that's the whole sort of point [TS]

00:32:37   there's his dad was really obsessed with [TS]

00:32:39   Grail lore and to the detriment of [TS]

00:32:41   raising his son and so it turns out they [TS]

00:32:44   have a lot of common but you have gone [TS]

00:32:47   about it different ways to movies about [TS]

00:32:49   obsessions you know I Indies mother dies [TS]

00:32:52   because she doesn't tell him something [TS]

00:32:53   Andy's father spends the rest of his [TS]

00:32:55   life trying to figure out something for [TS]

00:32:57   eternal life because you know if you [TS]

00:32:59   can't help but think that those are [TS]

00:33:00   those two things are connected [TS]

00:33:01   electrically have you seen monty python [TS]

00:33:05   and the holy grail I have yes [TS]

00:33:07   oh ok this is just like that it wasn't [TS]

00:33:09   like that [TS]

00:33:10   that's what I mean it doesn't have a [TS]

00:33:12   knight of the round table so maybe [TS]

00:33:14   that's the roundtable those know it's [TS]

00:33:16   the it's gonna say Crusades Crusades [TS]

00:33:17   nights [TS]

00:33:18   yeah it's um thats the end of that movie [TS]

00:33:21   is a with the steps that he has to take [TS]

00:33:24   and any already goes over the the bridge [TS]

00:33:27   and and it's that leap of faith that [TS]

00:33:28   he's got and then with the really [TS]

00:33:31   classic moment where Julian Glover who [TS]

00:33:35   we haven't mentioned from from empire [TS]

00:33:37   strikes back from the Empire Strikes [TS]

00:33:38   Back and he was he was in one of my [TS]

00:33:40   favorite old doctor who episodes to the [TS]

00:33:42   city of death by Douglas Adams see it [TS]

00:33:43   all is well connected is all connected [TS]

00:33:45   um Julian Glover is gets his shot at the [TS]

00:33:50   Holy Grail from the wall of cups which [TS]

00:33:51   is such a great but sadly he lets the [TS]

00:33:53   femme fatale choose and deliberately [TS]

00:33:55   killed him [TS]

00:33:56   yeah he hecho is poorly right which is [TS]

00:34:00   that classic line that the that that [TS]

00:34:02   it's such a great moment where India [TS]

00:34:04   gets to use his the the Jones the Jones [TS]

00:34:08   smarts to say who would have what would [TS]

00:34:09   that cut be actually and it's the [TS]

00:34:11   plainest cup of all and use it to not to [TS]

00:34:14   give himself eternal life necessarily or [TS]

00:34:17   does he is any images together only [TS]

00:34:19   debate is anybody you know when we are [TS]

00:34:21   30 states his dad but then you know just [TS]

00:34:23   statistics every every every I think [TS]

00:34:25   once you watch this for the first time [TS]

00:34:27   especially if you watch it when you're [TS]

00:34:28   like a teenager you have to have that [TS]

00:34:29   debate like Indiana Jones immortal now [TS]

00:34:31   but you know you can find all the [TS]

00:34:33   loopholes and everything well he cross [TS]

00:34:34   past the seal maybe has to keep drinking [TS]

00:34:37   from it to keep alive because that guy [TS]

00:34:38   I you know there's a knight who has been [TS]

00:34:39   there for 700 years and clearly he's not [TS]

00:34:41   like you know buying food to the grocery [TS]

00:34:43   store down the street and coming back [TS]

00:34:45   and hanging out the Holy Grail right so [TS]

00:34:47   I don't think so [TS]

00:34:48   he hasn't delivered yeah yeah it may [TS]

00:34:51   have been a little and predicates a [TS]

00:34:52   really long time to get the takeout [TS]

00:34:54   pizza when the pizza guy keeps getting [TS]

00:34:55   decapitated by your defense it's true [TS]

00:34:58   that's a good point so yeah and I like [TS]

00:35:01   the the ending of that movie too where [TS]

00:35:05   you have that brief scene where you know [TS]

00:35:07   Elsa of course tries to take the Grail [TS]

00:35:09   past the seal which they're not supposed [TS]

00:35:10   to do the whole thing starts so break up [TS]

00:35:13   in this earthquake and she falls down [TS]

00:35:15   the chasm and Andy's grabbed her and she [TS]

00:35:17   thinks she can reach the Grail and she [TS]

00:35:20   won't give in to your other hand and she [TS]

00:35:22   falls to her death which is pretty dark [TS]

00:35:24   also for an Indiana Jones movie this is [TS]

00:35:26   interesting because she had their [TS]

00:35:27   services James Bond parallel we have [TS]

00:35:29   these two you know female leads from the [TS]

00:35:31   previous movies who our heroines in [TS]

00:35:34   various ways and this one clearly not a [TS]

00:35:37   heroine right she is manipulative she's [TS]

00:35:39   an opportunist she is there to do her [TS]

00:35:41   own thing and she basically you know but [TS]

00:35:43   raised in d into giving up all of the [TS]

00:35:47   location of the Grail and all this but [TS]

00:35:48   she still also tries to argue that we [TS]

00:35:50   can get out of here it's just you and me [TS]

00:35:51   and we've got this and she's really [TS]

00:35:53   looking for that opportunity and so when [TS]

00:35:55   she falls her death you know he stumbles [TS]

00:35:58   in and he thinks he can reach it and it [TS]

00:36:00   takes his dad coming over and saying you [TS]

00:36:02   know let it go [TS]

00:36:04   and of course this from the guy who is [TS]

00:36:05   notoriously obsessed with the Grail so [TS]

00:36:08   it brings a weight to that of even him [TS]

00:36:10   saying I found this thing I've been [TS]

00:36:11   looking for my entire life and it's not [TS]

00:36:14   worth losing my son over like I've got [TS]

00:36:17   he is a matter of perspective of my [TS]

00:36:19   priorities now I don't have to watch it [TS]

00:36:21   now [TS]

00:36:22   now you know what it all means you still [TS]

00:36:23   really should watch it lacks utilize I [TS]

00:36:25   think he is immortal though because then [TS]

00:36:27   he hides in a refrigerator during a [TS]

00:36:28   nuclear bomb blast and survives so i [TS]

00:36:30   think he is actually immortal should we [TS]

00:36:33   talk about what happened what happened [TS]

00:36:36   i'll tell my favorite story about of [TS]

00:36:38   that it's not a prequel I was sequel I [TS]

00:36:40   will tell my favorite story about this [TS]

00:36:41   there was years and years of speculation [TS]

00:36:43   of there being another Indiana Jones [TS]

00:36:46   movie and people would ask repeatedly [TS]

00:36:49   Harrison Ford [TS]

00:36:50   whether or not there's going to be [TS]

00:36:52   another one and a certain point I think [TS]

00:36:54   even after they sort of announce ok [TS]

00:36:56   we're going to do one at some point I [TS]

00:36:58   remember a story where someone asked him [TS]

00:37:00   what's the what's going to be in [TS]

00:37:01   harrison ford clearly i don't know if he [TS]

00:37:05   was drunk or what he told that [TS]

00:37:07   oh yeah it's uh indiana jones and the [TS]

00:37:09   opal of the MERM and prints and and [TS]

00:37:14   people ran with that it's not even [TS]

00:37:16   serious her why not [TS]

00:37:17   and i love it because it sounds like a [TS]

00:37:18   harry potter book that you know one of [TS]

00:37:21   the funny things about about these [TS]

00:37:23   movies is that they don't get done [TS]

00:37:27   without Steven Spielberg and George [TS]

00:37:29   Lucas and I think that's one of the [TS]

00:37:30   reasons why it would they went so long [TS]

00:37:32   as they they had other stuff to do [TS]

00:37:35   really George Lucas hello George Lucas [TS]

00:37:37   was doing some other stuff and Steven [TS]

00:37:38   Spielberg I mean these are the innocent [TS]

00:37:40   Spielberg's a busy guy who is making [TS]

00:37:42   lots of movies many of which are [TS]

00:37:44   meaningful and win Oscars and things [TS]

00:37:46   like that right there is he's arguably [TS]

00:37:49   one of the you know great living [TS]

00:37:51   directors right and has made some bad [TS]

00:37:53   movies and has made some fantastic [TS]

00:37:55   movies but they did the deal was always [TS]

00:37:57   that Spielberg directed and Lucas would [TS]

00:38:00   come up with a story now there's some [TS]

00:38:02   issues there right but it is it's [TS]

00:38:05   fascinating to see Spielberg come back [TS]

00:38:07   to the series because Spielberg i would [TS]

00:38:09   argue maybe does his best work in any [TS]

00:38:11   movie and raiders of the lost ark it [TS]

00:38:13   it's not just it's an adventure and it's [TS]

00:38:15   got its silly moments but it's kind of [TS]

00:38:18   brilliantly directed I think you can [TS]

00:38:20   actually one of the was talking to John [TS]

00:38:22   Gruber before this about one of the [TS]

00:38:25   possibilities of doing a podcast here [TS]

00:38:26   and I said you know we we should do [TS]

00:38:28   sometimes somewhere is take that blu-ray [TS]

00:38:31   of raiders and do what Roger Ebert does [TS]

00:38:33   with Citizen Kane which is play it and [TS]

00:38:35   then at any point anybody can raise [TS]

00:38:37   their hands and pause it and talk about [TS]

00:38:39   what they're seeing on the screen I i [TS]

00:38:40   think it Raiders is so great as a as a [TS]

00:38:43   movie with the way it's shot in the way [TS]

00:38:45   it's directed at you that it would it [TS]

00:38:47   would withstand that level of scrutiny [TS]

00:38:49   is a i will i will happily conceded as a [TS]

00:38:51   better craftedmovie than the last [TS]

00:38:54   crusade though last state has a special [TS]

00:38:56   place in my sure sure but it's funny [TS]

00:38:58   then with the Kingdom of the Crystal [TS]

00:38:59   Skull to see these guys get the band [TS]

00:39:01   back together and [TS]

00:39:02   to our state fairs and as it turns out [TS]

00:39:03   and maybe you shouldn't get again and [TS]

00:39:05   get back together after that you know it [TS]

00:39:07   makes me sad because there are little [TS]

00:39:10   snippets of crystal skull that I [TS]

00:39:11   actually somewhat in like rereading I [TS]

00:39:14   haven't seen since i saw it in theaters [TS]

00:39:16   and going over the synopsis before we [TS]

00:39:18   sat down to talk about Indiana Jones [TS]

00:39:20   today I I realized you know some of the [TS]

00:39:23   stuff that i remember i actually really [TS]

00:39:25   like and there are some that it's nice [TS]

00:39:27   to see a little bit of closure to indy [TS]

00:39:29   the story Mary and things like that [TS]

00:39:31   that's that's nice that's great but then [TS]

00:39:34   the other two-thirds of the movie are [TS]

00:39:36   you know okay we're going to push the [TS]

00:39:38   boundary of is it isn't it magic to [TS]

00:39:40   full-on alien speculation and we're [TS]

00:39:44   going to throw in CGI monkeys and we're [TS]

00:39:46   going to throw in all you know exploding [TS]

00:39:49   things and nuclear fridges and it just [TS]

00:39:51   it it takes a small want the want for a [TS]

00:39:54   closure of a fun romp in a story and [TS]

00:39:57   then it just you know it's it's as if a [TS]

00:39:59   bunch of terrible's a bunch of terrible [TS]

00:40:02   Hollywood types got together and sat [TS]

00:40:03   down a room like all right we have this [TS]

00:40:05   great Indiana Jones nugget [TS]

00:40:07   what can we put around it to make sure [TS]

00:40:09   that everybody will come see it and make [TS]

00:40:10   it the blockbuster of the summer I don't [TS]

00:40:12   know you know I I at the risk of of [TS]

00:40:15   being pelted to death by all other [TS]

00:40:19   righteous geeks around I I don't think [TS]

00:40:22   that's I don't think it's that bad [TS]

00:40:24   the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I think [TS]

00:40:25   that it i think it suffers because of [TS]

00:40:27   first officer it's a Steven Spielberg [TS]

00:40:29   movie and doesn't you know isn't [TS]

00:40:31   spectacularly put together it's with its [TS]

00:40:34   fine it suffers because it's part of [TS]

00:40:36   this series that's beloved and has these [TS]

00:40:38   two movies especially the people that [TS]

00:40:40   are really really good and it's not as [TS]

00:40:42   good as anything maybe it's you know [TS]

00:40:44   it's better than the temple doom I think [TS]

00:40:46   I don't know if I agree with that high [TS]

00:40:47   well this is what I'm saying is I i [TS]

00:40:49   think and i think the parts of it that [TS]

00:40:50   are actually pretty good i think i think [TS]

00:40:52   maybe they're big mistake was that that [TS]

00:40:54   the premise that George Lucas came up [TS]

00:40:56   with with crystal skull was literally we [TS]

00:40:58   you know these are movies that are about [TS]

00:41:01   the genre of movie that was popular at [TS]

00:41:03   the time and so that the first three [TS]

00:41:05   movies are really in this you know [TS]

00:41:07   adventure cereal style and so with time [TS]

00:41:10   having moved on he decided that this is [TS]

00:41:12   going to be more like a fifties Cold War [TS]

00:41:14   sci-fi movie [TS]

00:41:15   and I'm not sure that that is a good fit [TS]

00:41:18   with Indiana Jones told her because [TS]

00:41:20   you're forced into the pushing the time [TS]

00:41:22   forward because of the fact that your [TS]

00:41:24   stars are from a certain age and so that [TS]

00:41:27   necessitates a a shift in what we get to [TS]

00:41:30   talk about and I didn't even mind having [TS]

00:41:32   the you know the Communists replace the [TS]

00:41:34   Russians replace the Nazis you know that [TS]

00:41:36   I think they're perfectly good foil for [TS]

00:41:38   that sort of thing but there was the [TS]

00:41:40   whole i agree that the the thing i [TS]

00:41:42   always love with the the supernatural [TS]

00:41:45   was evident but often kind of vague it's [TS]

00:41:50   opaque it's not come directly out and [TS]

00:41:52   stated i mean i don't know the the [TS]

00:41:54   implication seems it has a much depth or [TS]

00:41:56   touch in the in the Last Crusade and [TS]

00:41:58   rays lost ark but it does not in Kingdom [TS]

00:42:01   of the Crystal Skull we're really is [TS]

00:42:03   just your beaten over the head with the [TS]

00:42:05   fact that her taking your aliens and [TS]

00:42:07   they have a spaceship in Mexico and and [TS]

00:42:10   then to me that is it takes away the the [TS]

00:42:12   any need for speculation or discussion [TS]

00:42:14   we're not sitting around talking about [TS]

00:42:16   you know we talked about is Indiana [TS]

00:42:17   Jones and moreover sitting around [TS]

00:42:19   talking about whether or not they're [TS]

00:42:20   aliens you know having an action [TS]

00:42:21   sequence in the big room full of boxes [TS]

00:42:24   from the first movie i thought was a [TS]

00:42:26   kind of funny and bold choice it does [TS]

00:42:28   make me feel kind of queasy because [TS]

00:42:29   they're going back over territory that [TS]

00:42:31   it cheapens it [TS]

00:42:32   yeah which is a little unfortunate [TS]

00:42:33   because that is one of the great moments [TS]

00:42:35   that we all agreed in the first podcast [TS]

00:42:36   we did that last shot [TS]

00:42:38   that's one of the best last shots of a [TS]

00:42:39   movie ever yeah that mocks receding into [TS]

00:42:42   the building the giant building full of [TS]

00:42:44   boxes with who knows what other secrets [TS]

00:42:45   and to go back to the well they're [TS]

00:42:47   lessens the impact of that and that is [TS]

00:42:49   unfortunate but i just-i I think we risk [TS]

00:42:52   as fans of a of anything the becoming [TS]

00:42:56   the the kind of jaded cynical people who [TS]

00:42:58   say well then they try to do another one [TS]

00:42:59   and it's dark and we you know that's [TS]

00:43:01   what everybody says about the prequels [TS]

00:43:02   for star wars and that's what everybody [TS]

00:43:04   says about the Kingdom of the Crystal [TS]

00:43:05   Skull maybe put me right to it may be [TS]

00:43:08   true it may it may absolutely be true [TS]

00:43:10   but I I have to at least question a [TS]

00:43:13   little bit because I I thought as an as [TS]

00:43:15   an action movie a summer blockbuster [TS]

00:43:17   action movie kingdom of the crystal [TS]

00:43:18   skull was fine i don't actually have you [TS]

00:43:21   seen it again i I've only seen it the [TS]

00:43:23   one time but i have the blue right now [TS]

00:43:25   yeah i've also only see the one time and [TS]

00:43:26   I [TS]

00:43:26   don't think that I'm in a hurry to go [TS]

00:43:27   see it again which is even with temple [TS]

00:43:29   of doom i watch that every once in [TS]

00:43:31   awhile because it's not just about is a [TS]

00:43:32   good movie it's about what is it what is [TS]

00:43:34   it due to your memory of your perception [TS]

00:43:36   of these other things that our beloved [TS]

00:43:37   and I think there's I think there's some [TS]

00:43:38   I think that's a stronger argument [TS]

00:43:40   against it a stronger argument against [TS]

00:43:42   the Star Wars prequels than their actual [TS]

00:43:44   quality as movies and whether they work [TS]

00:43:46   as movies for other people because you [TS]

00:43:49   know in some ways it's really more about [TS]

00:43:51   your memories and your fondness for the [TS]

00:43:53   for the this thing that you grew up with [TS]

00:43:55   and you and that you love and if that [TS]

00:43:57   stuff gets rewritten I mean I said this [TS]

00:43:59   about um the third alien movie which I [TS]

00:44:02   begins executing the alien movies so I [TS]

00:44:07   actually haven't seen me there really be [TS]

00:44:12   okay I'll just that [TS]

00:44:14   yeah aliens it was aliens really great [TS]

00:44:18   taught kind of more horror sci-fi movie [TS]

00:44:20   aliens is a James Cameron movie and it's [TS]

00:44:23   a it's a huge action spectacle they're [TS]

00:44:25   both great at it [TS]

00:44:27   the goal in in the in the second movie [TS]

00:44:29   in aliens is a triply Sigourney Weaver [TS]

00:44:32   is trying to save the people on this [TS]

00:44:33   planet especially this little girl that [TS]

00:44:35   they find Newt and they want to save her [TS]

00:44:37   and that's you know it's a big deal that [TS]

00:44:39   at the end of that movie again spoiler [TS]

00:44:41   alerts ignore the river doesn't die at [TS]

00:44:43   the end of aliens she saves SI States a [TS]

00:44:45   little girl and few other people and [TS]

00:44:47   they escaped on the spaceship from this [TS]

00:44:48   planet that's covered with aliens the [TS]

00:44:51   the third alien movie begins with a [TS]

00:44:53   scene where they wake Sigourney Weaver [TS]

00:44:55   up she's landed somewhere and they say [TS]

00:44:57   yeah everybody else is dead but you're [TS]

00:44:58   alive and and the problem with that is [TS]

00:45:01   that it's basically a big f you to all [TS]

00:45:04   of people who liked the previous movie [TS]

00:45:06   which is everybody who would see a [TS]

00:45:08   sequel to the previous movie and that's [TS]

00:45:10   how i feel about crystal skull and I [TS]

00:45:12   feel about the prequels it's more than [TS]

00:45:13   it offends me because it's trying on my [TS]

00:45:16   memories of like what would happen to [TS]

00:45:19   Indiana Jones later then it is maybe [TS]

00:45:21   offending me by being a movie that's [TS]

00:45:23   mediocre there's an element of tone [TS]

00:45:24   deafness to it i think because as you [TS]

00:45:25   say you are you [TS]

00:45:28   the thing that's great about reading [TS]

00:45:29   series or seeing series of movies i [TS]

00:45:31   think is feeling like to a certain [TS]

00:45:33   extent you're being rewarded for your [TS]

00:45:35   continued viewing in the same way the [TS]

00:45:37   television shows one of the things I [TS]

00:45:38   like about watching a long serial on [TS]

00:45:40   television is that you get rewarded as [TS]

00:45:42   to things that are callbacks to previous [TS]

00:45:44   episodes or things that you already [TS]

00:45:46   learned all right that's interesting [TS]

00:45:48   because you know last season these two [TS]

00:45:50   characters have this interchange and [TS]

00:45:52   that's rewarding and so going into [TS]

00:45:53   something which seems to just throw that [TS]

00:45:55   all out the window is kind of tone deaf [TS]

00:45:57   from the point of view of creator saying [TS]

00:45:59   that didn't matter that was not [TS]

00:46:01   important [TS]

00:46:02   nothing that you just saw you wasted [TS]

00:46:04   your time or your mind filled in the [TS]

00:46:05   blanks in a very different way and it [TS]

00:46:07   was better when it was all just a matter [TS]

00:46:09   of you know you could imagine what [TS]

00:46:10   Indiana Jones's future life or his past [TS]

00:46:12   life I mean that's why when Last Crusade [TS]

00:46:15   came out I i wanted to see more about [TS]

00:46:17   like him at home in in indiana jones at [TS]

00:46:21   home at the University and well yes what [TS]

00:46:24   was like sweaters just like snow [TS]

00:46:25   justjust more of that because it's so [TS]

00:46:27   brief and raiders right but at the same [TS]

00:46:29   time youyou there's always a risk that [TS]

00:46:31   it's gonna be something that you didn't [TS]

00:46:32   want to actually see because your mental [TS]

00:46:35   impression of what it might be is much [TS]

00:46:37   more [TS]

00:46:37   well it's a it's a it's a it's a [TS]

00:46:39   schrödinger's capping it can be all [TS]

00:46:41   those things that those right but as [TS]

00:46:42   soon as its as soon as that box is [TS]

00:46:44   opened its defined oh yeah and you split [TS]

00:46:47   between watching the people or 12 people [TS]

00:46:48   who [TS]

00:46:49   oh I only want to see anyone he's in the [TS]

00:46:51   hat when he's out and about and the [TS]

00:46:53   people who oh I would like to see more [TS]

00:46:55   about his home life [TS]

00:46:56   yes what he cooks for dinner yeah [TS]

00:46:58   exactly what things what crash is [TS]

00:47:00   currently happening in his classroom we [TS]

00:47:02   haven't done an episode about battle [TS]

00:47:04   battlestar galactica yet but just to [TS]

00:47:06   mention it here i know a lot of people [TS]

00:47:07   really disappointed in the ending of [TS]

00:47:08   that show but I i find that Lex I'm only [TS]

00:47:12   i finished the first season there you [TS]

00:47:13   know spoiler i'll try not to spoil it [TS]

00:47:15   what I'll say is I think the end the way [TS]

00:47:18   that show ended is if you watch from the [TS]

00:47:21   beginning one of the very serious [TS]

00:47:23   possibilities of how it was going to end [TS]

00:47:25   and I think the reaction a lot of people [TS]

00:47:28   had to it was because they were able to [TS]

00:47:32   it was that schrödinger's cat thing [TS]

00:47:34   they were able to think that it was [TS]

00:47:35   going to end in a different way and kind [TS]

00:47:37   of not be emphasized the parts that were [TS]

00:47:39   like that that part of the story I'm not [TS]

00:47:40   that interested in I kind of don't buy [TS]

00:47:42   that kind of deep prioritize that and [TS]

00:47:44   believe that there was going to be an [TS]

00:47:45   ending that fulfilled what they thought [TS]

00:47:47   the show was about and and for me I [TS]

00:47:49   always thought that the show is going to [TS]

00:47:51   end the way it did [TS]

00:47:53   actually so i wasn't i wasn't [TS]

00:47:54   disappointed by it because I knew that's [TS]

00:47:55   where they were going i felt that but I [TS]

00:47:57   totally understand that somebody else [TS]

00:47:58   you know your expectations are different [TS]

00:48:00   and at the end you have to make a choice [TS]

00:48:03   and it can collapse the wider than a dad [TS]

00:48:06   and I said account i had a conversation [TS]

00:48:08   last night about lost about the ending [TS]

00:48:11   of loss which I think falls into a [TS]

00:48:12   similar scenario where some people were [TS]

00:48:14   really disappointed I was will do that [TS]

00:48:17   episode 2 [TS]

00:48:18   yeah well I was not and I was having a [TS]

00:48:20   discussion but I'm the most and I think [TS]

00:48:22   that episode was great last episode but [TS]

00:48:24   but there's a chance there is an issue [TS]

00:48:26   of this idea that you know you have to [TS]

00:48:28   have a payoff and at some point people [TS]

00:48:31   are going to be disappointed to find [TS]

00:48:32   Indiana Jones on the island at the end [TS]

00:48:34   you may not have understood that [TS]

00:48:35   refugees in a box [TS]

00:48:37   yes he may be alive or dead yeah well [TS]

00:48:41   this has been great talking to you guys [TS]

00:48:43   about this movie series which we really [TS]

00:48:45   love parts of and don't apparently love [TS]

00:48:47   other parts up and land at least have [TS]

00:48:49   seen all of Iraq's what you are [TS]

00:48:51   suggesting when I watch it down i should [TS]

00:48:53   only watch the first 10 minutes of the [TS]

00:48:54   second 1i when I would start i watch the [TS]

00:48:56   first movie in the third movie and I [TS]

00:48:58   wish they'd watch watch temple do do it [TS]

00:49:00   don't watch it with the dogs for the [TS]

00:49:02   kids know but you know watch it to know [TS]

00:49:24   refrigerator scene he wanted originally [TS]

00:49:26   when he was working with the metas on [TS]

00:49:28   back to the future the original time [TS]

00:49:30   machine was supposed to be a [TS]

00:49:31   refrigerator but they got worried the [TS]

00:49:32   kids would see the movie and hidin [TS]

00:49:34   frigerator to travel time and and I so I [TS]
