00:00:22   talking about fall television lots of [TS]

00:00:24   new shows premiering with interest [TS]

00:00:27   interesting premises and some sci-fi and [TS]

00:00:30   some other things that are of interest [TS]

00:00:31   to our are great listeners out there as [TS]

00:00:34   well as some returning shows that we [TS]

00:00:35   talked about before so to survey the [TS]

00:00:37   landscape of fall television [TS]

00:00:40   i'm joined by a tremendous cast of [TS]

00:00:43   characters here today Scott Mykelti [TS]

00:00:46   hello Scott [TS]

00:00:48   hello i enjoy watching television I know [TS]

00:00:50   that about you [TS]

00:00:51   you're well-read and well watched I do [TS]

00:00:54   sometimes I read and watch TV at the [TS]

00:00:56   same time watching you right now John [TS]

00:00:59   siracusa as well as here hi John [TS]

00:01:01   hello Jason you are fewer of televised [TS]

00:01:03   entertainment are you i just came from [TS]

00:01:06   the television room [TS]

00:01:07   Wow see so you're fresh you're ready to [TS]

00:01:09   go [TS]

00:01:10   well you have a whole room dedicated to [TS]

00:01:12   tell us right that that is how serious [TS]

00:01:14   you are that that's I like that level of [TS]

00:01:16   dedication interviewer ben boychuk is [TS]

00:01:18   also here this is to podcast in a row [TS]

00:01:20   for you we are your your honor you're on [TS]

00:01:22   a roll [TS]

00:01:23   yeah I'm in such trouble with my family [TS]

00:01:25   though yeah i'm going to be killed in my [TS]

00:01:27   sleep too much [TS]

00:01:28   podcasting I'm gonna have to really make [TS]

00:01:30   this one count ok that's good podcast as [TS]

00:01:33   if it was your last podcast on earth [TS]

00:01:35   precisely alright damn moron who is on [TS]

00:01:38   every podcast on earth is also here I [TS]

00:01:40   damn Jason I'm not a television [TS]

00:01:43   character but I play one on TV [TS]

00:01:44   mm-hmm I'm sure you came up with that [TS]

00:01:47   just now I'd actually did come up that's [TS]

00:01:49   just good [TS]

00:01:51   alright I like like that lack of [TS]

00:01:52   preparation it fits with my life battery [TS]

00:01:54   that's what i do i roll with the punches [TS]

00:01:56   yes i'm a punch you later and Lisa [TS]

00:01:59   Schmeisser also joins us hi Lisa [TS]

00:02:01   I pleasure to be here it is great to [TS]

00:02:04   have you here we'll see if you're still [TS]

00:02:06   saying that at the end of the spot [TS]

00:02:08   because like the feeling's mutual [TS]

00:02:10   yes yes I'm alright so are interesting [TS]

00:02:15   lots lots of new kind of genre related [TS]

00:02:19   shows this fall which is funny because [TS]

00:02:22   on one level like I kind of wondered if [TS]

00:02:23   they would learn their lesson from some [TS]

00:02:26   of the the the shows like the flash for [TS]

00:02:29   words and the like of last season but [TS]

00:02:30   know if we've learned anything about TV [TS]

00:02:32   networks they never learn [TS]

00:02:35   so we got another batch it's a pretty [TS]

00:02:38   bleak landscape i was talking about i [TS]

00:02:40   was having dinner with a friend earlier [TS]

00:02:41   and we were sort of going through all [TS]

00:02:43   the new especially in the hour-long [TS]

00:02:44   department [TS]

00:02:45   it is a pretty colors room oh I don't [TS]

00:02:50   know [TS]

00:02:50   podcast is over I was not I was not very [TS]

00:02:52   excited about this fall and then [TS]

00:02:54   actually I I think there's a lot of [TS]

00:02:58   decent hour long new series out there [TS]

00:03:00   decent nothing that i'm super excited [TS]

00:03:03   about well that's the problem right it [TS]

00:03:05   that a lot of these shows are almost [TS]

00:03:06   more offensive in their mediocrity to me [TS]

00:03:08   you know that may be that may be so but [TS]

00:03:11   there's one I'm kind of excited about [TS]

00:03:13   there's just one time there's one kind [TS]

00:03:15   of excited about to so there's a 10 x I [TS]

00:03:18   in fact discovering that one last week [TS]

00:03:20   kind of turned me around about the [TS]

00:03:21   season like ooh there's a show i'm [TS]

00:03:23   interested in and under a solution so [TS]

00:03:25   I'm sorry there's two short shows that i [TS]

00:03:27   like this season one of them however is [TS]

00:03:29   so far outside the realm of being [TS]

00:03:30   comfortable that we shouldn't even bring [TS]

00:03:31   it up [TS]

00:03:32   no no we should now now now you're now [TS]

00:03:34   you're in its revenge all my god you [TS]

00:03:37   guys watching revenge in time i actually [TS]

00:03:40   heard kind of kind of good things about [TS]

00:03:41   that i I've never been heard of that [TS]

00:03:43   it's a girl in the Hamptons and she [TS]

00:03:46   hates all the people i'm kind of a [TS]

00:03:48   sucker I do i do love Emily VanCamp [TS]

00:03:50   she's awesome it is it on the CW know [TS]

00:03:53   it's ABC hate well the ABC ABC is a [TS]

00:03:56   ritual it features walking lab [TS]

00:03:59   experiment madeleine stowe and as the [TS]

00:04:02   queen of the Hamptons and then we [TS]

00:04:03   vancamp as the girl who's going to take [TS]

00:04:06   her down because madeleine stowe [TS]

00:04:07   participated in the scheme that somehow [TS]

00:04:10   got her father convicted of treason and [TS]

00:04:12   he died in ignominy and it is the most [TS]

00:04:15   deliciously soapy thing I've ever seen [TS]

00:04:16   in my life and I say this is somebody [TS]

00:04:18   who was a dedicated viewer of the [TS]

00:04:20   original beverly hills 90210 and melrose [TS]

00:04:22   place it just it's gone lunatic just in [TS]

00:04:25   the first few episodes alone we've [TS]

00:04:26   already got dumb us sliding kinsey scale [TS]

00:04:30   sexuality blackmail going on as and a [TS]

00:04:33   really annoying high tech billionaire [TS]

00:04:34   who's decided to get involved just for [TS]

00:04:36   kicks and a little bit of class warfare [TS]

00:04:38   two bar and [TS]

00:04:40   every time and now there's a secret [TS]

00:04:41   tripled stripper doppelganger who was [TS]

00:04:42   just introducing the latest episode of [TS]

00:04:44   season pass right now [TS]

00:04:46   yeah I have subscribing that's right so [TS]

00:04:49   I got any at stripper doppelganger and [TS]

00:04:51   the problem is I yeah I i will hulu at [TS]

00:04:53   work occasionally just to just to just [TS]

00:04:55   to get a refresher because it's just [TS]

00:04:56   that good and the problem with healing [TS]

00:04:57   something like this at work is is you [TS]

00:04:59   you find yourself now you know when [TS]

00:05:01   you're supposed to be buckling down and [TS]

00:05:02   it's a chance to talk to the television [TS]

00:05:03   show it is [TS]

00:05:05   and honestly I wish I wish that more of [TS]

00:05:07   my girlfriends or heck even boyfriends [TS]

00:05:09   lived closer to me so that we could all [TS]

00:05:11   get together on wednesday nights and [TS]

00:05:13   watch it and screw scream at the screen [TS]

00:05:14   together because it's mind-bogglingly [TS]

00:05:17   good fund it is addictive [TS]

00:05:19   I don't want to like it and my wife [TS]

00:05:22   started watching it and I said I this is [TS]

00:05:24   silly soapy nonsense but then you kind [TS]

00:05:26   of get hooked and pretty soon I'm [TS]

00:05:29   sitting down on the couch and and I'm as [TS]

00:05:31   rapidly attend to it is as anything so [TS]

00:05:35   yeah you're like what will the ball be [TS]

00:05:37   this week is it is it a charity gala is [TS]

00:05:39   that the fourth of July at every week we [TS]

00:05:42   have a big a big fancy charity shindig [TS]

00:05:44   was just introducing the second yes and [TS]

00:05:46   that's what does that happen [TS]

00:05:48   yeah sure shot in the Hamptons are no oh [TS]

00:05:50   god now completely and like Long Beach [TS]

00:05:54   yeah [TS]

00:05:55   oh so sad yeah but it's another show on [TS]

00:05:57   USA that's it in the Hamptons royal [TS]

00:05:59   pains royal pains there you go [TS]

00:06:01   hold me closer tiny doctors we call this [TS]

00:06:07   is not how i thought this podcast we go [TS]

00:06:09   no this is good I they were all getting [TS]

00:06:11   our skeletons out of the closet now [TS]

00:06:12   yeah it's good it's good should it would [TS]

00:06:16   anybody else like to talk about shows [TS]

00:06:17   they're watching that aren't we just [TS]

00:06:20   start with off topic and then hope that [TS]

00:06:22   have later we moved to all of you what [TS]

00:06:23   let's off topic i mean well as John and [TS]

00:06:26   John and I were talking before before [TS]

00:06:28   about a homeland which I don't think [TS]

00:06:32   necessarily falls straight into you know [TS]

00:06:34   are sort of typical wheelhouse but again [TS]

00:06:37   i will hire 32 spy a spy thriller and I [TS]

00:06:40   and I love i'm a geek for spy thrillers [TS]

00:06:42   so so there you go i it i would say so [TS]

00:06:46   far and I and I again I've alive [TS]

00:06:48   watch mostly pilots of other things it [TS]

00:06:50   is probably the best new show of the [TS]

00:06:53   entire [TS]

00:06:53   that's all c's that's Claire Danes [TS]

00:06:55   contains Damien loose right who you [TS]

00:06:58   might recognize from LA and the brothers [TS]

00:07:00   and life life which showed that I i like [TS]

00:07:02   to smell good job cancelled and a man [TS]

00:07:07   can't be taken as as other dances good [TS]

00:07:10   using some of anything he's great in bed [TS]

00:07:12   well I think he's he's awesome in this [TS]

00:07:14   show so far but you forgot the most [TS]

00:07:16   important one [TS]

00:07:18   Inara marina marina avatars yeah that's [TS]

00:07:21   Rebecca and David Harewood a British [TS]

00:07:24   actor who has appeared in a couple I [TS]

00:07:26   think he appeared in one of the Doctor [TS]

00:07:28   Who end of time maybe the doctor who was [TS]

00:07:31   like that rich reclusive billionaire [TS]

00:07:33   whatever terrible character terrible [TS]

00:07:35   character but I like him he also [TS]

00:07:36   appeared on the BBC robin hood as Friar [TS]

00:07:39   Tuck but he plays sort of a CIA middle [TS]

00:07:42   management guy who's angling for a for a [TS]

00:07:44   better a better job so the premise here [TS]

00:07:46   is that is that Damian Lewis returns [TS]

00:07:50   from like a spider hole in Afghanistan [TS]

00:07:52   or go somewhere and he's basically been [TS]

00:07:54   you know in this like captured by [TS]

00:07:56   terrorists and held for eight years and [TS]

00:07:58   he gets rescued and claire danes [TS]

00:08:01   character suspect that he may be he may [TS]

00:08:04   have been turned [TS]

00:08:05   during his capture but she basically has [TS]

00:08:07   this information [TS]

00:08:08   nobody else really knows this [TS]

00:08:12   information that she has and so she sort [TS]

00:08:14   of goes out on a limb to try and prove [TS]

00:08:16   it and what I like about it so far is [TS]

00:08:18   that it really [TS]

00:08:19   despite the fact that you know you was [TS]

00:08:21   the viewer kind of know what's going on [TS]

00:08:22   because you see stuff sort of omission [TS]

00:08:24   Lee her character clearly is you know [TS]

00:08:28   right in in sort of like straddling the [TS]

00:08:32   line she does a lot of questionable [TS]

00:08:33   things and she does a lot of things that [TS]

00:08:35   don't seem to pay off so she's got this [TS]

00:08:38   theory and she started sticking to it [TS]

00:08:39   and trying to prove it but she's not [TS]

00:08:42   making a lot of headway and sort of in [TS]

00:08:44   each episode she gets like maybe a [TS]

00:08:45   little bit closer but she's still kind [TS]

00:08:48   of on the outside looking in and so I [TS]

00:08:51   kind of enjoy that sort of uphill [TS]

00:08:53   struggle from her and there's some [TS]

00:08:54   things with her that make her arguably [TS]

00:08:56   sort of unreliable as a character very [TS]

00:09:00   tactful way of putting it [TS]

00:09:03   yeah but she's I I you know without [TS]

00:09:05   giving too much away about it but its [TS]

00:09:08   life it was one of probably the only [TS]

00:09:09   pilot i watched and was immediately [TS]

00:09:11   thinking I have to have to watch the [TS]

00:09:13   next episode because it ends on [TS]

00:09:15   something that's very subtle but is also [TS]

00:09:18   kind of this huge shift you know she [TS]

00:09:20   spends his whole pilot trying to prove [TS]

00:09:21   this fact and she least get somebody to [TS]

00:09:24   come around your point of view at the [TS]

00:09:25   end but in what it turns out to be a [TS]

00:09:27   fairly minor sort of Revelation I think [TS]

00:09:30   am I think the pilot is was maybe still [TS]

00:09:33   is available for free for people yeah [TS]

00:09:35   and to think you could stream it online [TS]

00:09:37   although it is obviously censored in on [TS]

00:09:39   on shows its show time so there is some [TS]

00:09:41   stuff to censor so if you wanna see the [TS]

00:09:44   good parts [TS]

00:09:45   yeah you don't want to be sensor all [TS]

00:09:47   right i want ya i was vision why John [TS]

00:09:51   saying that but that's the thought you [TS]

00:09:53   open you know episode 1 let's cut to the [TS]

00:09:56   chase here here's why you want to keep [TS]

00:09:57   watching this program and then you know [TS]

00:09:58   you know even the first episode of [TS]

00:10:00   stargate had boobs in it [TS]

00:10:02   yeah but never again I kept watching for [TS]

00:10:05   eight long years wow that's Teddy power [TS]

00:10:09   of the many ways I don't know about a [TS]

00:10:11   show that is really really its subtle [TS]

00:10:13   which I like in a thriller I mean it's [TS]

00:10:15   kinda like a lot more of a john mccrae [TS]

00:10:17   angle to it it's not entirely [TS]

00:10:20   over-the-top things will blow up every [TS]

00:10:22   week it's not 24 it's got yes it's got a [TS]

00:10:26   much more it's got a much slower burn to [TS]

00:10:28   it i really appreciate that it keeps you [TS]

00:10:30   going and keep every week I finished [TS]

00:10:32   that the show and I think holy crap i [TS]

00:10:34   wish i had the right the next episode [TS]

00:10:36   right now because it's that I'm adding [TS]

00:10:38   grossmont yeah I just caught up on the [TS]

00:10:41   series i watched the first episode of it [TS]

00:10:43   yesterday and watch the last episode of [TS]

00:10:45   it today so it tells you what kind of [TS]

00:10:46   draw dad for my life are the best thing [TS]

00:10:49   i've seen this season what it reminds me [TS]

00:10:51   most of his season 1 of The Sopranos and [TS]

00:10:54   that they're building tension like [TS]

00:10:57   every person in the show I yeah Dan [TS]

00:11:01   mentioned the claire danes was like you [TS]

00:11:03   know kind of odd not kind of unreliable [TS]

00:11:06   and strange not really like your shining [TS]

00:11:07   knight and the one you're rooting for [TS]

00:11:09   anything like that everyone in the show [TS]

00:11:11   has something about them that's off [TS]

00:11:13   including like the supposed antagonist [TS]

00:11:15   think the the guy who's been turned like [TS]

00:11:17   as Dan was saying they're leading you [TS]

00:11:19   since you as the the viewer see things [TS]

00:11:22   that no one else sees you know you see [TS]

00:11:23   everything you feel like you have a [TS]

00:11:25   pretty good idea of what the truth is [TS]

00:11:27   but even if you know even if you're [TS]

00:11:30   pretty sure that you know what's going [TS]

00:11:32   on the characters involved in it don't [TS]

00:11:34   are like real people are not sure that [TS]

00:11:37   their that they're able to or are [TS]

00:11:40   willing to or want to go through with [TS]

00:11:41   the thing you think they're gonna do [TS]

00:11:43   everybody the good guys the bad guys the [TS]

00:11:45   guys you think about guys do you think [TS]

00:11:46   are good guys [TS]

00:11:47   nobody is like an automaton machine who [TS]

00:11:49   just does what they want to do [TS]

00:11:50   everybody's got problems everybody is [TS]

00:11:52   uncertain and it's all that the [TS]

00:11:54   mellowness is what's great about it [TS]

00:11:55   because you you know i don't know what [TS]

00:11:57   the budget is the show but like there's [TS]

00:11:58   no explosions no car chases [TS]

00:12:00   there's very little that you know [TS]

00:12:02   gunfire anything like that it's just a [TS]

00:12:04   good character story that's slowly [TS]

00:12:07   building tension now this is the type of [TS]

00:12:09   series where you've all depend on how [TS]

00:12:11   they resolve this story because they're [TS]

00:12:14   obviously they're building some kind of [TS]

00:12:15   story here and say well how far how many [TS]

00:12:17   seasons this can you do it eventually [TS]

00:12:18   we're going to find out [TS]

00:12:19   will your warranty is here isn't he does [TS]

00:12:22   the thing I think gonna happen not going [TS]

00:12:23   to happen and like how do you do season [TS]

00:12:25   2 and how to do season 3 and so on and [TS]

00:12:26   so forth so they can still mess this up [TS]

00:12:28   but that i highly recommend this show [TS]

00:12:31   for all the reasons you might want to [TS]

00:12:33   watch a show it reminds me a little bit [TS]

00:12:35   of my favorite show from last year which [TS]

00:12:36   I know John liked as well which was [TS]

00:12:38   Terriers which was another show that had [TS]

00:12:39   a very slow build to it and i think this [TS]

00:12:42   is teenagers was much more laid back [TS]

00:12:44   than this though [TS]

00:12:45   yes is like this is like fighting you [TS]

00:12:47   know yeah so I shouldn't watch this [TS]

00:12:49   because it's going to get cancelled [TS]

00:12:50   no I think it's on showtime so okay [TS]

00:12:53   there you go [TS]

00:12:53   yeah it's already it's already been [TS]

00:12:55   renewed you've got washed away skycable [TS]

00:12:57   guarantee all right yeah the gray cable [TS]

00:12:59   guarantees the first time that's a great [TS]

00:13:01   recommendation [TS]

00:13:02   let's uh move on and talk about [TS]

00:13:05   Oh we'll go from serious nail-biting [TS]

00:13:10   the post the iraq war terrorism to [TS]

00:13:13   dinosaurs in the past through a time [TS]

00:13:16   portal about that who that would be I [TS]

00:13:18   speak of Terra Nova on song started [TS]

00:13:21   yeah terranova sort of vaguely Stargate [TS]

00:13:25   and it actually the people behind it are [TS]

00:13:27   our mother it's a bunch of Star Trek [TS]

00:13:28   producers plus Steven Spielberg although [TS]

00:13:31   i'm always dubious about how he's how [TS]

00:13:33   much she's involved in anything [TS]

00:13:35   hands on is he gonna be with this you [TS]

00:13:36   drop by the office once you know you [TS]

00:13:38   know I i will say that i think he is he [TS]

00:13:41   is not like super involved but there's [TS]

00:13:42   something about this that reminds me of [TS]

00:13:44   like you're you're very average [TS]

00:13:46   Spielberg film like the worst of [TS]

00:13:48   Spielberg I think well I mean Spielberg [TS]

00:13:50   but like mediocre right like and I think [TS]

00:13:52   on that TV his TV work is actually [TS]

00:13:54   generally really poor [TS]

00:13:56   yeah i mean but in film on talking he [TS]

00:13:58   gets that I don't think he gets the [TS]

00:13:59   medium [TS]

00:14:00   yeah it's it's it's a weird show it's [TS]

00:14:03   not as bad as I thought it would be but [TS]

00:14:05   it's not i think it's pretty terrible [TS]

00:14:07   oh it's it's it's squandered potential [TS]

00:14:10   it's one potential that's exactly what i [TS]

00:14:12   was going to say is I thought the pilot [TS]

00:14:14   was pretty good in that it sets up the [TS]

00:14:16   scenario where your you've got a blank [TS]

00:14:19   canvas right you've got these people [TS]

00:14:21   they're back in time there from the [TS]

00:14:22   future they they've they're sending from [TS]

00:14:24   a dystopic future not right future right [TS]

00:14:27   I thought that was the coolest part of [TS]

00:14:28   the whole show on asleep while rising [TS]

00:14:30   more the future or the so well that's [TS]

00:14:32   the nice thing about it is that they [TS]

00:14:33   can't go back but people come from the [TS]

00:14:35   future they continue to come in waves [TS]

00:14:37   from the future and they can do some [TS]

00:14:39   communication back there and there's [TS]

00:14:41   some some imagination since the politics [TS]

00:14:44   and I I thought that was I thought the [TS]

00:14:46   setup was pretty good i mean there's [TS]

00:14:48   some weirdnesses apparently in the [TS]

00:14:49   original pilot the husband and wife who [TS]

00:14:52   have been separated because he was put [TS]

00:14:54   in jail for lying about having having a [TS]

00:14:57   kid right so the the husband-wife in the [TS]

00:15:01   original unaired pilot they were their [TS]

00:15:03   marriage was was on the outside actually [TS]

00:15:05   the reason that they had the third kid [TS]

00:15:06   was to try and save their marriage or [TS]

00:15:07   somehow and they took that out which is [TS]

00:15:10   weird but what's even weirder is like in [TS]

00:15:11   the second episode they're introduced [TS]

00:15:13   this guy who was her old boyfriend and [TS]

00:15:15   there's supposed to be some tension [TS]

00:15:16   there except it's very clear that they [TS]

00:15:18   had to take that out when they decided [TS]

00:15:20   not to have their marriage be in trouble [TS]

00:15:21   so there's it [TS]

00:15:23   no tension oh that's a huge narrative [TS]

00:15:26   mistake because this show would have [TS]

00:15:28   been okay i thought this show could have [TS]

00:15:30   been delightfully creepy if it turns out [TS]

00:15:32   that Elizabeth had been recruited by a [TS]

00:15:35   next lover who was thinking hey your [TS]

00:15:36   husband's in jail you're going to be [TS]

00:15:38   several million years in the past [TS]

00:15:40   how's it going around that you know [TS]

00:15:42   that's what it should be about it's got [TS]

00:15:44   dinosaurs is not speaking about our [TS]

00:15:46   marriage is on the rocks a sleep but [TS]

00:15:48   doesn't make me creepy setup is all so [TS]

00:15:50   kids I'm your new dad in the past and [TS]

00:15:53   happy because we haven't nothing just [TS]

00:15:55   drop that angle [TS]

00:15:56   well you did I think I think the push [TS]

00:15:58   and hold that I heard just hear about [TS]

00:16:00   how it's got dinosaurs do we want [TS]

00:16:01   characters like well i was actually [TS]

00:16:03   thinking that setting you know telling [TS]

00:16:05   stories about interesting people [TS]

00:16:07   interesting characters it with this with [TS]

00:16:09   this kind of in interesting world that [TS]

00:16:10   they're in this backdrop could be good [TS]

00:16:13   unfortunately the second episode is a is [TS]

00:16:16   a star trek episode it's basically [TS]

00:16:18   there's a scary kind of dinosaur threat [TS]

00:16:20   that threatens the ship I mean the [TS]

00:16:22   colony in made up and the spoiler horn [TS]

00:16:26   and talk specifics because it was really [TS]

00:16:28   like the dumbest premise multiple shorts [TS]

00:16:33   the third episode just also a bad Star [TS]

00:16:36   Trek rice right that's the one that [TS]

00:16:37   maybe I actually didn't even watch it [TS]

00:16:39   because i saw the preview for where it [TS]

00:16:40   said a virus that erases their memory [TS]

00:16:43   temporarily and I'm like I don't like [TS]

00:16:45   that episode of Star Trek do you need [TS]

00:16:47   and that was my thought was you've got [TS]

00:16:49   interesting premise and you've got and [TS]

00:16:52   you've got submit some vaguely [TS]

00:16:53   interesting characters you clearly got a [TS]

00:16:55   budget for hunt for like hi [TS]

00:16:57   special-effects you're doing [TS]

00:16:58   high-concept sci-fi of the week it's [TS]

00:17:00   like you're on a mainstream network [TS]

00:17:02   you've got a sci-fi premise you don't [TS]

00:17:03   need to syfy it up any further [TS]

00:17:05   you've got dinosaurs you got people from [TS]

00:17:07   the future who are now in the past you [TS]

00:17:09   don't need a sci-fi virus as one of my [TS]

00:17:12   one of my family members who is a big [TS]

00:17:14   sci-fi fan said like you know pick one [TS]

00:17:17   right like pick one thing that's [TS]

00:17:18   different right [TS]

00:17:19   yeah I was gonna say there's too much [TS]

00:17:21   stuff in the show Yeah Yeah Yeah [TS]

00:17:22   dinosaurs done you can make a they can [TS]

00:17:25   make decisions with you decent things [TS]

00:17:26   with the dinosaurs Oh big made up [TS]

00:17:28   dinosaurs you've got all these people [TS]

00:17:30   coming from a dystopian future when [TS]

00:17:32   orange is a freakin big deal and all of [TS]

00:17:34   a sudden they're put into this pass [TS]

00:17:35   where there's just this profusion of [TS]

00:17:37   strange flora and fauna and are like [TS]

00:17:39   home time to patrol the fence that's [TS]

00:17:41   over with giant vines and keep out the [TS]

00:17:43   dinosaurs [TS]

00:17:43   no yeah there's no wonder there's a [TS]

00:17:46   whole world to explore with things that [TS]

00:17:48   they don't even know we're out there and [TS]

00:17:51   instead they sit behind the fence and [TS]

00:17:52   occasionally they'll be like oh geez [TS]

00:17:54   there's a dinosaur killing people we [TS]

00:17:57   let's investigate bad and it's really [TS]

00:17:58   just like that towards the dangerous [TS]

00:18:00   this is crazy [TS]

00:18:01   we're mix of of some innovative things [TS]

00:18:04   and then complete retreat into just [TS]

00:18:07   clichés it's it's really disappointing [TS]

00:18:09   also apparently none of these people [TS]

00:18:11   were formed by their dystopia hate yeah [TS]

00:18:15   they're all just hanging out by college [TS]

00:18:16   students know because in the pilot they [TS]

00:18:18   call those billboards about how family [TS]

00:18:20   is for and apparently having more than [TS]

00:18:21   two children is is a grave enough [TS]

00:18:23   offense where you can get tossed into [TS]

00:18:24   jail for by the population police [TS]

00:18:27   yes and you've got this family to jets [TS]

00:18:29   into the past with five people one of [TS]

00:18:31   whom you know was was brought in a [TS]

00:18:33   freaking backpack and their embraced [TS]

00:18:35   with open arms by the entire Terranova [TS]

00:18:37   colony you can't tell me that can send [TS]

00:18:40   it back i guess we'll know but the thing [TS]

00:18:42   is people could treat them with [TS]

00:18:43   discussed earlier pariahs aurealis right [TS]

00:18:45   ulong breaker and instead their own gym [TS]

00:18:48   whatever did we do before you came along [TS]

00:18:50   to enforce laws that we haven't actually [TS]

00:18:52   ratified listen to the future right they [TS]

00:18:54   seemed like people from the President as [TS]

00:18:55   if they'd forgotten that they're from a [TS]

00:18:57   dystopian future [TS]

00:18:58   well except for except for Steven [TS]

00:18:59   language there's just like a play the [TS]

00:19:01   same role you play never huh slightly [TS]

00:19:03   mellower you know i will say something [TS]

00:19:04   about Stephen Lang I like something i [TS]

00:19:07   still get me wrong you know yeah I like [TS]

00:19:08   him to the thing I'm glad about at least [TS]

00:19:11   so far in terra nova is that it was so [TS]

00:19:14   obvious going on it's like oh they're [TS]

00:19:15   gonna cast him as this mean guy who's in [TS]

00:19:18   charge of the colonies going to be a [TS]

00:19:19   jerk and they're gonna have he's going [TS]

00:19:20   to be the antagonist and they haven't [TS]

00:19:22   he's actually like he's kind of a jerk [TS]

00:19:24   how he's just he's kinda gruff right but [TS]

00:19:26   not rough but he's got the best interest [TS]

00:19:28   of the colony of heart more lesson and [TS]

00:19:30   and and i like that because when you've [TS]

00:19:32   got that whole weird someone to keep him [TS]

00:19:35   to write with his likes honest he hasn't [TS]

00:19:37   he has a dark secret to assure you know [TS]

00:19:39   the real deal is with the the actual [TS]

00:19:40   anti- for taken from ready player one [TS]

00:19:42   right they just brought them right over [TS]

00:19:44   the sensors [TS]

00:19:45   yeah like said the icon that is all [TS]

00:19:47   about my problem is that so they can't [TS]

00:19:49   seem to decide they have dinosaurs [TS]

00:19:51   attack and then they have some kind of [TS]

00:19:53   family drama they want to do and then [TS]

00:19:54   there's a virus and that is just oh god [TS]

00:19:58   the episode with him like I would like [TS]

00:19:59   to court her daughter just that it's all [TS]

00:20:02   kind of all those plot-wise need to just [TS]

00:20:04   die [TS]

00:20:04   yeah and then there's the rebellious [TS]

00:20:06   teenager I've got to go out and sneak [TS]

00:20:08   outside the fence my first things i hate [TS]

00:20:11   me exactly i don't know anything about [TS]

00:20:12   this place but i'm going to sneak out [TS]

00:20:13   and have some moonshine with people I [TS]

00:20:15   just met because that seems like a good [TS]

00:20:16   idea [TS]

00:20:17   you think I really think I would have [TS]

00:20:19   been bowled a bold and insensible [TS]

00:20:21   artistic decision to kill that kid [TS]

00:20:23   mmm pilot that would've been awesome and [TS]

00:20:25   then Stephen like have been like see [TS]

00:20:26   this is why you don't go outside the [TS]

00:20:28   fence mother's now your family only has [TS]

00:20:32   four jerks [TS]

00:20:34   yes yeah well I mean it would have been [TS]

00:20:36   a very different show up they showed up [TS]

00:20:37   and he said about pic to kill third one [TS]

00:20:40   well that's wonderful and i were [TS]

00:20:42   thinking we're gonna do we were really [TS]

00:20:43   disappointed when they didn't I mean [TS]

00:20:45   that this is clearly a beautiful [TS]

00:20:47   reoriented show right boxes trying to [TS]

00:20:48   get the family so we all agree that the [TS]

00:20:50   story in the premise they're just [TS]

00:20:52   squandering it right but you like let's [TS]

00:20:54   just put that aside and just look at [TS]

00:20:55   every other aspect of the show the [TS]

00:20:57   script [TS]

00:20:58   another thing they're not just so and [TS]

00:21:00   write whatever gets the job done stupid [TS]

00:21:02   the individual actors chosen ROK [TS]

00:21:04   individually but like think of the [TS]

00:21:06   husband and the wife no chemistry and [TS]

00:21:07   biochemistry at all then the girl who i [TS]

00:21:09   love Don King's is just completely flat [TS]

00:21:11   here I have no interest in her like [TS]

00:21:13   everything is no interesting character [TS]

00:21:14   actors is just not done [TS]

00:21:16   no Steve laying it is coming well the [TS]

00:21:20   thing is is jason o'mara is not a bad [TS]

00:21:22   actor and he was very good and life on [TS]

00:21:24   Mars it's just whoever is guiding his [TS]

00:21:26   career keeps getting into real stinkers [TS]

00:21:27   because his accent is for his fake [TS]

00:21:30   accent I barely even recognized him from [TS]

00:21:32   life on Mars know you mentioned i say oh [TS]

00:21:34   yeah that is that guys such a pale [TS]

00:21:35   shadow of what he wasn't that show [TS]

00:21:37   well I yet they never liked keep his [TS]

00:21:39   Irish accent someday so let's let's move [TS]

00:21:41   on [TS]

00:21:42   I now that we've beaten the dinosaurs to [TS]

00:21:44   death and talk about two shows that are [TS]

00:21:48   sort of similarly premise which is that [TS]

00:21:52   there are legendary mythical creatures [TS]

00:21:55   who are real grim lcg yeah well reel him [TS]

00:22:02   but that's not the premise dependency [TS]

00:22:04   unit there plenty real that the prince [TS]

00:22:06   and the premise Department of this grim [TS]

00:22:08   which is about mean it's like buffy the [TS]

00:22:12   vampire slayer or angel because it's the [TS]

00:22:14   same producers it's david greenwalt a [TS]

00:22:16   couple of producers who worked on Buffy [TS]

00:22:18   and Angel and that and that that premise [TS]

00:22:21   is that this guy discovers that he's the [TS]

00:22:23   latest in a line of of people who fight [TS]

00:22:26   against supernatural forces in the real [TS]

00:22:28   world and there really is a big bad wolf [TS]

00:22:31   that attacks girls wearing red hoodies [TS]

00:22:34   and and there's this whole other part of [TS]

00:22:36   the world that he's not seen before that [TS]

00:22:38   now is revealed to him and then there's [TS]

00:22:40   also once upon a time which is a show [TS]

00:22:44   that suggests that all fairy book you [TS]

00:22:49   know the story fairy the fairy tales are [TS]

00:22:52   real and the weekend Queen cast a spell [TS]

00:22:57   that banished them all from the land of [TS]

00:22:59   fairy tales and now they live in Maine [TS]

00:23:02   and don't rip don't realize that their [TS]

00:23:04   Ain main where there are no happy and [TS]

00:23:07   main rain is like purgatory basically [TS]

00:23:09   what we've learned [TS]

00:23:10   this just in and one town over from [TS]

00:23:13   Haven and and and so they there now in [TS]

00:23:16   Maine so this is essentially you end up [TS]

00:23:18   with a town that's full of people where [TS]

00:23:20   you sit there and watch them and go oh [TS]

00:23:22   he is Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk [TS]

00:23:25   or whatever and the next and that's not [TS]

00:23:30   you know how do you feel about this show [TS]

00:23:32   Jason do you want I'm just I'm just [TS]

00:23:35   trying to I'm just trying to elaborate [TS]

00:23:36   on the premises here but it was just it [TS]

00:23:38   was just the venom which you put it to a [TS]

00:23:39   boil and whatever alright so let's all [TS]

00:23:41   right i'll jump on that bad once upon a [TS]

00:23:43   time for watching two episodes of [TS]

00:23:45   once-upon-a-time as I am i it's not good [TS]

00:23:49   it's it no it's not okay okay it's not [TS]

00:23:52   bad yeah I watched it but it's not this [TS]

00:23:54   like it's like you're sitting there is [TS]

00:23:56   no thanks first off it's from these two [TS]

00:23:58   guys who are producers on lost and you [TS]

00:24:02   can tell but basically what they've said [TS]

00:24:03   it it's like lost with fairy tales [TS]

00:24:05   because every episode seems to cut back [TS]

00:24:08   and forth between the past in the [TS]

00:24:10   fairyland with important things that [TS]

00:24:12   inform you about what's happening in the [TS]

00:24:14   present in main there a sound effect [TS]

00:24:16   accompanying there is no little Michael [TS]

00:24:21   chiquinho but i have I so they do these [TS]

00:24:24   flashbacks and I think to myself I think [TS]

00:24:25   that maybe is a mistake i think maybe [TS]

00:24:27   I'm grounding in the present would be [TS]

00:24:29   better [TS]

00:24:30   the problem with a fairy the fairy realm [TS]

00:24:31   is the fairy realm is ridiculous [TS]

00:24:34   over-the-top but not enough and you're [TS]

00:24:37   gonna make it ridiculous i thought you [TS]

00:24:38   should I think you should go all the way [TS]

00:24:40   camp and they just a plant in Hungary [TS]

00:24:42   tones well they don't because they have [TS]

00:24:43   to go there every week now right i mean [TS]

00:24:45   it would be different if the first half [TS]

00:24:47   of the pilot was about the fairyland and [TS]

00:24:50   then we never saw it again but instead [TS]

00:24:52   they keep going back there and and the [TS]

00:24:55   way they've instructed the actors to act [TS]

00:24:57   especially the woman who plays the mayor [TS]

00:24:59   of the town who's all Atlanta free [TS]

00:25:01   lessons on taxes also the Wicked Queen [TS]

00:25:03   her her her performance it as the wicked [TS]

00:25:07   queen is painful to watch because it's I [TS]

00:25:10   disagreed so it's just it's poor it is [TS]

00:25:13   liable disagree I disagree because I [TS]

00:25:15   thought that's finished worse the more [TS]

00:25:17   you invited Lisa it's even worse no I [TS]

00:25:19   thought I thought that the way she [TS]

00:25:21   manipulated her father a nap [TS]

00:25:22   so to attic at the key moment I'm trying [TS]

00:25:27   very hard to explain this without [TS]

00:25:28   resorting to spoilers [TS]

00:25:30   anyway the point is is she as she [TS]

00:25:31   manipulated her father I thought the way [TS]

00:25:33   that she portrayed the the emotion she [TS]

00:25:36   was fading compared to what she's [TS]

00:25:38   actually feeling I thought that was [TS]

00:25:39   fantastic and I also think she's [TS]

00:25:41   fantastic is the mayor too because she [TS]

00:25:43   does a really good job [TS]

00:25:44   ok my problem with let me be more [TS]

00:25:46   specific [TS]

00:25:48   reading reading the over-the-top Wicked [TS]

00:25:52   Queen dialogue where she sort of [TS]

00:25:54   shouting into the air about haha yeah [TS]

00:25:58   that stuff is horrible [TS]

00:26:00   it's just yeah it's painful so is there [TS]

00:26:02   anything ever anybody who does that well [TS]

00:26:04   or 0 because it seems like that the the [TS]

00:26:06   we've done a really good job as a [TS]

00:26:08   narrative convention making villains [TS]

00:26:10   look like complete jackholes when I do [TS]

00:26:12   start the waving around of the hands and [TS]

00:26:13   the screaming at nobody particular [TS]

00:26:15   develop a they'll all pay [TS]

00:26:16   I mean it doesn't matter what does that [TS]

00:26:18   but gary oldman does well I'd they keep [TS]

00:26:22   flashing back to this this very tail end [TS]

00:26:23   as we're talking about but the problem [TS]

00:26:25   is like everybody knows those stories [TS]

00:26:28   yeah right like that's why it's boring [TS]

00:26:30   it's telling us a story we've already [TS]

00:26:31   heard there's no as far as I can tell [TS]

00:26:33   there's not much at least in that I only [TS]

00:26:34   saw the pilot but it seemed like there [TS]

00:26:36   wasn't too much that like drove those [TS]

00:26:39   characters to me I mean because their [TS]

00:26:42   fairytale characters right ultimately [TS]

00:26:43   they are kind of two-dimensional and and [TS]

00:26:46   for me that meant I didn't really care [TS]

00:26:48   about their who they were and and so [TS]

00:26:51   it's disappointing in some ways to hear [TS]

00:26:53   that they sort of keep going back to [TS]

00:26:54   that well because i think there's [TS]

00:26:55   there's an interesting premise there but [TS]

00:26:57   you know it doesn't need to have the [TS]

00:26:59   flashbacks i don't know i think they're [TS]

00:27:02   doing that I think they're doing that so [TS]

00:27:04   that they you you begin to care about [TS]

00:27:08   who not home so much who they were but [TS]

00:27:10   who they are now I i think that and I [TS]

00:27:13   think it's developed a little bit more [TS]

00:27:15   in the in the second episode and it and [TS]

00:27:17   I'm willing to give this show a little [TS]

00:27:19   bit more of a chance because I i think [TS]

00:27:23   it it's moving along it's not it's not [TS]

00:27:27   like they're jerking us around I think [TS]

00:27:28   it's moving along the first two episodes [TS]

00:27:31   there there's a there's a drive to them [TS]

00:27:33   and it seems like you were getting a [TS]

00:27:35   better sense [TS]

00:27:36   so of who these people are now and so so [TS]

00:27:41   that the flashbacks to fairy tale land [TS]

00:27:43   are aren't that they don't bother me as [TS]

00:27:45   much although I if the first episode [TS]

00:27:48   where they were they were all gathered [TS]

00:27:50   around that the round table and they [TS]

00:27:52   were trying to figure out what to do and [TS]

00:27:54   they were coming up with maybe some [TS]

00:27:56   solution to get out of this curse or [TS]

00:27:59   whatever reminded me a lot of the [TS]

00:28:01   imaginationland episode of southpark [TS]

00:28:03   yeah let's crank call out maybe not what [TS]

00:28:10   they were going for [TS]

00:28:11   probably not what they were going for [TS]

00:28:12   but it said I I couldn't help but think [TS]

00:28:14   of you know all of the the Council of [TS]

00:28:17   imaginary characters talking about the [TS]

00:28:20   crisis you know in Imaginationland and [TS]

00:28:24   then that you know there was Jiminy [TS]

00:28:26   Cricket bear on the on the conference [TS]

00:28:28   table you know it is in that was a [TS]

00:28:30   little bit funny but before the most [TS]

00:28:32   right you know i think i think this [TS]

00:28:34   one's this one's got potential although [TS]

00:28:36   it certainly didn't it didn't come [TS]

00:28:39   blasting out of the gate the way the way [TS]

00:28:42   grim did [TS]

00:28:42   yeah it's so it's great yeah so grim so [TS]

00:28:47   great and much stronger pilot I think [TS]

00:28:49   mix photon once-upon-a-time grim only [TS]

00:28:51   see the pilot because we record this [TS]

00:28:54   it's only only only air the pilot eh [TS]

00:28:57   yeah it was having good it was really [TS]

00:29:00   good I liked it a lot [TS]

00:29:02   I don't know if I'd say really good but [TS]

00:29:03   i found it more compelling than once [TS]

00:29:05   upon them once upon a time i find it [TS]

00:29:07   shocking that Jason the buffy guy loves [TS]

00:29:09   somebody I wanted that's exactly know [TS]

00:29:11   what there's a as I'm watching it the [TS]

00:29:13   chemistry between the blue pot in the [TS]

00:29:14   sin and the lead guy were fantastic [TS]

00:29:16   really i found the bleeding i kinda flat [TS]

00:29:19   period like easy very generic and and [TS]

00:29:22   his buddy i was reading for the body to [TS]

00:29:23   dive is there was nothing between those [TS]

00:29:25   two what the copies he's like he's like [TS]

00:29:27   salt or yeast where you have to add them [TS]

00:29:29   to something else and then everything [TS]

00:29:30   gets he sees 11-8 you can we don't [TS]

00:29:33   distract me he looks like he looks like [TS]

00:29:34   brandon routh he does yeah I get like [TS]

00:29:37   it's like I like branded I like brandon [TS]

00:29:39   routh better which is saying something [TS]

00:29:41   and yeah you know it's like he didn't [TS]

00:29:43   want to do it so they found look alike [TS]

00:29:44   and brandon routh could use the work [TS]

00:29:46   yeah we can do incidentally he was on [TS]

00:29:48   Chuck a couple years ago is really good [TS]

00:29:50   on Chuck I like the mind but he you know [TS]

00:29:52   this is this guy is kind of like I don't [TS]

00:29:54   know so far in one episode I found him [TS]

00:29:56   kind of uninspiring and I I like I mean [TS]

00:29:59   I like the sort of the sidekick guy the [TS]

00:30:02   stylus we realized yeah yeah I like him [TS]

00:30:05   I thought he was pretty good a lot of [TS]

00:30:07   the other carrier i mean the other [TS]

00:30:09   characters don't really stand out that [TS]

00:30:11   the partner generic partner right you [TS]

00:30:14   know there's the obligatory twist [TS]

00:30:17   yeah I don't know any it's interesting [TS]

00:30:21   there's there's an interesting potential [TS]

00:30:22   here it's certainly a lot darker there [TS]

00:30:25   were little things that bothered me I my [TS]

00:30:28   favorite little bizarre plot point of [TS]

00:30:29   course being the the girl goes out [TS]

00:30:31   jogging and drops her ipod when she gets [TS]

00:30:34   murdered and then they they go look for [TS]

00:30:36   12 hours later is playing the same like [TS]

00:30:39   what happened with that he likes the [TS]

00:30:41   Eurythmics so much it was on repeat one [TS]

00:30:44   song exactly the only song you should [TS]

00:30:46   listen to brew your android / yeah [TS]

00:30:47   that's some battery life too [TS]

00:30:49   yeah well grapple yeah we all just [TS]

00:30:51   thinking the same to any other Apple [TS]

00:30:53   they're really like oh yeah I know [TS]

00:30:54   exactly what model headphones are you [TS]

00:30:57   dig that [TS]

00:30:57   yeah yeah okay good but it was probably [TS]

00:31:00   get a bunch of Apple nervous watching [TS]

00:31:01   the show also if you're gonna be a crazy [TS]

00:31:03   supernatural killer don't hum the song [TS]

00:31:06   that your victim was listening to when [TS]

00:31:08   you're talking to the police that was a [TS]

00:31:10   weird revealed for me because i did not [TS]

00:31:12   quite pick it up but yeah it's coming on [TS]

00:31:15   it's strange that the partner is the one [TS]

00:31:17   who picks it up like now I didn't [TS]

00:31:20   understand why they gave that discovery [TS]

00:31:22   to him maybe this is to show them the [TS]

00:31:24   Grimm is going to need to be schooled [TS]

00:31:25   both in regular police work and in the [TS]

00:31:27   supernatural police work [TS]

00:31:29   it's good at anything he is incompetent [TS]

00:31:32   all fronts [TS]

00:31:34   well he kinda is he will use the [TS]

00:31:36   audience standing that's the whole point [TS]

00:31:37   is is you always have one in every show [TS]

00:31:39   who's the neophyte or the the newbie and [TS]

00:31:43   groom had a great line when so that the [TS]

00:31:45   guy who abducted the girl hasn't has her [TS]

00:31:48   in his basement and he's very creepy and [TS]

00:31:50   he's walking out party turns exactly [TS]

00:31:52   turn sir it says would you like a [TS]

00:31:53   chicken pot pie [TS]

00:31:55   because you look at nigger up they say [TS]

00:31:57   lyrics like oh no it's what I really [TS]

00:32:00   like is how the blue bars are like we [TS]

00:32:01   see red hood we can't help it that's [TS]

00:32:03   just power wired I thought that was [TS]

00:32:04   really nice [TS]

00:32:05   yeah there's that there's a nice a nice [TS]

00:32:07   bit where his the guy who he drops in [TS]

00:32:09   who is obviously going to be his like [TS]

00:32:11   advisor into the supernatural world [TS]

00:32:13   who's the good character and funny and I [TS]

00:32:15   kept waiting for him to turn to to the [TS]

00:32:17   to the grim guy and say dude and he [TS]

00:32:20   finally did those like there it is [TS]

00:32:21   there's the dude he's that kind of guy [TS]

00:32:22   he's the dude sidekick but he said I [TS]

00:32:26   can't go any further because crazy I if [TS]

00:32:28   I get too close we become like a pack [TS]

00:32:30   and you know i gotta turn around and [TS]

00:32:32   it's not like moment of like I can't go [TS]

00:32:34   with you any further now you're on your [TS]

00:32:35   own [TS]

00:32:36   I like that and to John's point that the [TS]

00:32:38   guy who loves Buffy would like would [TS]

00:32:40   like the show it's true i mean it's got [TS]

00:32:42   a lot of the same pieces and i turned my [TS]

00:32:43   wife while we were watching it and I [TS]

00:32:45   said into every generation one man is [TS]

00:32:47   born he is the grim the advertisement a [TS]

00:32:50   tentpole now I mean is it is a [TS]

00:32:53   suggestion basically that they're all [TS]

00:32:54   descended from the Brothers Grimm Grimm [TS]

00:32:55   yeah [TS]

00:32:57   yes that's what is that that's kind of [TS]

00:32:59   lame so the the buffy essence part of it [TS]

00:33:02   for me was as soon as i saw an old lady [TS]

00:33:04   like in Congress combat where you have [TS]

00:33:06   someone who you don't perceive to be [TS]

00:33:08   like a warrior temper is like high [TS]

00:33:09   school girl or a cancer-stricken and [TS]

00:33:12   whips out you know starts doing this [TS]

00:33:14   ninja combat everything you ever got [TS]

00:33:16   knives and stuff that's a hundred [TS]

00:33:18   percent Bobby what was missing from this [TS]

00:33:20   there was in buffy is Joss Whedon and [TS]

00:33:22   snappy dialogue i right that wasn't that [TS]

00:33:23   was nowhere to be found which is [TS]

00:33:25   probably why i like it felt more like [TS]

00:33:27   Angel a little bit then like Buffy [TS]

00:33:28   friends and I think I i think it was [TS]

00:33:30   better written in this by far [TS]

00:33:32   well I didn't say it wasn't I just said [TS]

00:33:34   it's more a tailor talisman from our [TS]

00:33:36   pilot yeah the pilots are pilots are not [TS]

00:33:38   always good but the tone of angel was [TS]

00:33:40   much more in line with this the darker [TS]

00:33:41   and a little bit less funny then then [TS]

00:33:44   the Buffy I think it's a closer analog [TS]

00:33:46   one thing this had that Buffy didn't [TS]

00:33:48   have was the ability to if not scared [TS]

00:33:52   then at least startled so I was watching [TS]

00:33:54   this with my wife and just I told her [TS]

00:33:57   what the premise of the show was i think [TS]

00:33:58   i just i was like the brothers grimm or [TS]

00:33:59   whatever and you know like the first [TS]

00:34:01   little jump jolt thing with jogger in [TS]

00:34:03   the beginning startled her enough to [TS]

00:34:05   make your contacts come out haha [TS]

00:34:08   that should be a scale yeah that in [TS]

00:34:12   addition to like he was holding [TS]

00:34:13   something and just like she was startled [TS]

00:34:15   many times about the show and it [TS]

00:34:16   definitely I'm that's cheap like the [TS]

00:34:18   thing that jumps out at you but at least [TS]

00:34:19   it did that effectively writers and [TS]

00:34:21   producers of grim you may want to quote [TS]

00:34:23   from this episode of the uncomfortable [TS]

00:34:26   it's made her contacts fly out of her i [TS]

00:34:29   right [TS]

00:34:30   and that's not you know so that shows [TS]

00:34:31   like within the first minute they had [TS]

00:34:34   yet they had your attention and they did [TS]

00:34:36   you know the cheap little boots care but [TS]

00:34:37   hey I'll take you know an effective [TS]

00:34:40   cheap little boost Karen the thing that [TS]

00:34:41   was pointing out of it was like they [TS]

00:34:44   want to do a light-hearted tone with the [TS]

00:34:45   sidekick guy was like AI mama we're both [TS]

00:34:47   to it on the cool guy who'd but they [TS]

00:34:49   also wanted to have they also want to [TS]

00:34:51   have like look at the scary person with [TS]

00:34:52   the bad cg face right that I don't know [TS]

00:34:56   how they're going to balance that well [TS]

00:34:57   but I really think that what the show [TS]

00:34:58   would meet but the show's needed this is [TS]

00:35:00   writing is as good as Buffy had it [TS]

00:35:03   doesn't have that now i don't know if [TS]

00:35:05   the other the other factors can make up [TS]

00:35:07   for it well I guess I kept looking for [TS]

00:35:08   in sort of the not just a dialogue with [TS]

00:35:10   the structure of the episode i was i [TS]

00:35:13   found myself looking for the someone in [TS]

00:35:15   his life who is inevitably turns out to [TS]

00:35:18   be one of these creatures or in league [TS]

00:35:19   with the real thing the White House [TS]

00:35:21   buddy was like but I look I was waiting [TS]

00:35:23   for the carpet there's that one they did [TS]

00:35:24   this really weird shot right after he [TS]

00:35:26   like finds the little girl underneath [TS]

00:35:30   the living room they sort of do this we [TS]

00:35:32   chat with the partner stepping back and [TS]

00:35:33   I'm like oh my God he's gonna like turn [TS]

00:35:35   around and bring ya like a gun on him [TS]

00:35:36   and I was like wow that would be a viet [TS]

00:35:38   creepy turn or I thought the like the [TS]

00:35:40   fiancé might might turn out to be evil [TS]

00:35:42   or something [TS]

00:35:43   I honestly think that because that would [TS]

00:35:44   have been yeah they kind of had a shot i [TS]

00:35:47   think we shot her too i felt like that [TS]

00:35:48   hinted at that too but you didn't quite [TS]

00:35:51   playoff and said those edited the reveal [TS]

00:35:53   the end who really was the you know [TS]

00:35:55   mhm but I I don't know I mean I maybe [TS]

00:35:59   i'll watch the second episode I felt [TS]

00:36:01   better about it that is like i said then [TS]

00:36:02   I did about once upon time but it was [TS]

00:36:05   still you know it's still mixed bag for [TS]

00:36:08   me [TS]

00:36:08   yes of the current and the new fairytail [TS]

00:36:12   based hour-long show and Korean is [TS]

00:36:15   number one in my Park [TS]

00:36:17   yeah it turned you know watching up [TS]

00:36:21   watching pilots you the first hurdle is [TS]

00:36:25   can i watch through it to the end and [TS]

00:36:27   then second hurdle is what i watch [TS]

00:36:28   another episode and once upon a time I [TS]

00:36:31   was like maybe i watch another episode [TS]

00:36:32   because I gotta do a podcast about it [TS]

00:36:35   the grip grammy was was yeah watch [TS]

00:36:38   another episode of that again it was not [TS]

00:36:40   like I'm I'm floored this is the best [TS]

00:36:43   thing I've seen in years it was more [TS]

00:36:44   like that that was better than I [TS]

00:36:47   expected and worth worth some more of my [TS]

00:36:50   time palatable palatable you can put [TS]

00:36:52   that on the poster got some potential [TS]

00:36:54   you know got some potential worth worth [TS]

00:36:56   investigating further so yeah I think so [TS]

00:37:00   oh and Scott red summed it up of the to [TS]

00:37:02   go grim exactly so violent yeah i was [TS]

00:37:07   gonna watch the once upon a time thing [TS]

00:37:09   for the podcast but then I saw the groom [TS]

00:37:11   is also in the list and I i surmise that [TS]

00:37:14   grim would be the better institution [TS]

00:37:15   well once I watch it I could I could not [TS]

00:37:17   bring myself to watch the other like how [TS]

00:37:19   can watch another fairy tales that just [TS]

00:37:20   looks awful [TS]

00:37:21   so I'm glad to hear that yeah I like [TS]

00:37:25   senses are we even those of us who don't [TS]

00:37:26   think it was awful i don't think i would [TS]

00:37:28   service was good but let's talk about a [TS]

00:37:33   person of interest [TS]

00:37:35   this is a this is a show that is a [TS]

00:37:37   procedural in some ways but it it's um [TS]

00:37:40   it's got the premise is that there's a [TS]

00:37:43   guy mr. Finch who's played by Ben liner [TS]

00:37:46   sent Los Michael Emerson and and Ben [TS]

00:37:51   Linus is off the island now and he's [TS]

00:37:53   built a computer that the the government [TS]

00:37:57   uses to spy on everybody but he's like [TS]

00:37:59   put a backdoor in it so that the names [TS]

00:38:01   of people who are going to die or be [TS]

00:38:03   killed or or kill or something related [TS]

00:38:06   to death will be emailed to him every [TS]

00:38:09   day so that he can try and stop their [TS]

00:38:12   deaths it's a bizarre kind of premise [TS]

00:38:14   but in the end it's the setup is there [TS]

00:38:17   so that the that he and jim caviezel [TS]

00:38:19   Jesus himself jim caviezel Casey Casey [TS]

00:38:23   wheel in in in skirt [TS]

00:38:26   whoo that's AC it's true you can insert [TS]

00:38:29   themselves into the [TS]

00:38:30   people's lives and either you know [TS]

00:38:33   prevent them from killing somebody or [TS]

00:38:35   prevent them from being killed [TS]

00:38:38   um it's a weird premise I love Michael [TS]

00:38:41   Emerson and in this he is you know he's [TS]

00:38:43   got streets got a limp in the flashbacks [TS]

00:38:46   he doesn't have a limp there's mystery [TS]

00:38:48   about who he is and why he's there and [TS]

00:38:50   what his history is so I like him and I [TS]

00:38:54   you know I have to say i like i like [TS]

00:38:56   caviezel even though i don't like I find [TS]

00:38:58   him kind of bland and other things i [TS]

00:39:00   like them in this I don't think he's [TS]

00:39:02   like eric roberts or something i'll go [TS]

00:39:05   but i mean like a lie i think he crosses [TS]

00:39:07   effectively menacing no i don't know i [TS]

00:39:09   don't see I don't like it because I [TS]

00:39:11   think he's more [TS]

00:39:12   he's a little too much of a cipher I [TS]

00:39:13   wanted a little more he's warming up the [TS]

00:39:16   interplay with him Michael Emerson is [TS]

00:39:17   getting a little bit better but in a [TS]

00:39:18   pilot especially he's just like the guy [TS]

00:39:20   who shows up and beat the crap outta [TS]

00:39:22   here and not he just doesn't seem to [TS]

00:39:24   have much of a personality of its own so [TS]

00:39:26   I think he's a liability [TS]

00:39:27   well see i kind of figured they would [TS]

00:39:29   flush that out of me not you know they [TS]

00:39:30   gave me to write write write but I mean [TS]

00:39:32   I kind of enjoyed watching Abby that [TS]

00:39:34   first scene where he beats the crap out [TS]

00:39:36   of the punk kids who are just sort of [TS]

00:39:37   you know over the scotsman ridiculous on [TS]

00:39:41   the subway but yeah but it'sit's you [TS]

00:39:43   know it's the kind of that's the kind of [TS]

00:39:44   people you want to see get there get the [TS]

00:39:46   crap beat out of them right after [TS]

00:39:47   supplies think about that yeah exactly i [TS]

00:39:49   think it's shot ya know I kind of enjoy [TS]

00:39:51   so bad the show the two shows that this [TS]

00:39:53   show reminds me of one is vengeance [TS]

00:39:54   unlimited yeah which I know you love [TS]

00:39:57   which was a mighty fine show and the [TS]

00:39:59   other see equalizer which I loved with [TS]

00:40:01   Edward who was the UX by who now just [TS]

00:40:04   barges into people's lives when they're [TS]

00:40:05   in trouble and beat the crap out of the [TS]

00:40:07   mean people who are trying to hurt them [TS]

00:40:09   and i love i love that show because it [TS]

00:40:11   was menacing and it was kind of like New [TS]

00:40:13   York the threatening side of New York [TS]

00:40:15   and then this guy comes in and he he [TS]

00:40:18   will just use all the tools at his [TS]

00:40:19   disposal to destroy the bad people who [TS]

00:40:22   are trying to hurt other people and I [TS]

00:40:24   love that about that show and that's [TS]

00:40:25   that's the thing that i do like about [TS]

00:40:27   person of interest ya got that feeling [TS]

00:40:29   to it yeah i mean but vengeance [TS]

00:40:30   unlimited by the way hadn't had more of [TS]

00:40:32   a sense of humor than the show does i [TS]

00:40:35   was a little bit i was a little bit [TS]

00:40:37   ambivalent about this show I didn't want [TS]

00:40:39   to like it I didn't want it to succeed [TS]

00:40:41   because because i thought it [TS]

00:40:44   if it succeeds then we'll never see odd [TS]

00:40:47   jobs which is just plan show with with [TS]

00:40:50   with very honest and John Locke yes [TS]

00:40:53   stereo and that sounded like an awesome [TS]

00:40:55   show and I'm a little depressed about [TS]

00:40:57   that yeah so but but turns out turns out [TS]

00:41:00   this is this is actually pretty good and [TS]

00:41:02   you know it i think we're what five or [TS]

00:41:06   six episodes into this thing and I [TS]

00:41:08   haven't seen that many of them by I've [TS]

00:41:10   seen water a pilot but I watched the [TS]

00:41:12   pilot was enough to at least convince me [TS]

00:41:14   to give the next one shot [TS]

00:41:15   well it is worth giving a shot and it [TS]

00:41:17   turns out there there are some some [TS]

00:41:21   other conspiratorial threads that are [TS]

00:41:23   moving through it's not just it's not [TS]

00:41:25   just about the backgrounds of of Emerson [TS]

00:41:29   and and caviezel characters there's also [TS]

00:41:32   some things happening that some of that [TS]

00:41:34   some of the cases that they've been on [TS]

00:41:36   some of that some of these numbers that [TS]

00:41:38   they've that they've taken on and and [TS]

00:41:42   some of these people that they've [TS]

00:41:43   they've saved or or taken out turns out [TS]

00:41:49   there there have been implications to [TS]

00:41:51   some of the things that they've done [TS]

00:41:52   sort of unforeseen consequences which is [TS]

00:41:54   always very interesting so grace the [TS]

00:41:57   numbers are bad [TS]

00:41:58   well yeah well I although i have to do [TS]

00:42:00   it not come for a4a out-of-left-field [TS]

00:42:03   plot twist in the pilot which is just I [TS]

00:42:06   don't know I looked it soon as it [TS]

00:42:08   happened i can see like all right I see [TS]

00:42:10   what you're gonna do here and yet i [TS]

00:42:13   thought back to earlier in the episode [TS]

00:42:14   notes like this doesn't really make any [TS]

00:42:16   sets like you just kind of did that to [TS]

00:42:18   be look surprised [TS]

00:42:21   oh yeah yeah and and I remain at the end [TS]

00:42:24   of that my wife turned to me and said if [TS]

00:42:25   they do that every week this isn't gonna [TS]

00:42:27   work but they don't know what's going on [TS]

00:42:29   is good and it's actually pretty smart [TS]

00:42:31   but in it may be that there are there [TS]

00:42:34   are other powers at work here that you [TS]

00:42:38   know that have not been revealed and so [TS]

00:42:40   there's a lot to the show that that's [TS]

00:42:42   worth watching I think you're you're you [TS]

00:42:44   there's something what you say Jason [TS]

00:42:45   that Caviezel as characters a little bit [TS]

00:42:49   there's a little bit of a little bit of [TS]

00:42:51   a cipher but I grab I sort of think he's [TS]

00:42:53   just like a kind of brick that is yeah [TS]

00:42:55   old people but i think i think little by [TS]

00:43:00   little we're getting to know him a [TS]

00:43:01   little bit better and and so it it it [TS]

00:43:06   keeps you wanting to cum it keeps you [TS]

00:43:08   wanting to come back for more at least [TS]

00:43:10   it does for us and so we enjoy it i mean [TS]

00:43:14   it's it's a lot of fun and and I but i [TS]

00:43:17   do think you're right i mean Emerson's [TS]

00:43:19   character so tremendously watchable he's [TS]

00:43:23   just you know the guy that you never [TS]

00:43:25   mean he really kind of makes the show [TS]

00:43:28   but it's got its got action and by the [TS]

00:43:30   way they're not a bit i think it's a [TS]

00:43:33   native is it it's an eight o'clock show [TS]

00:43:34   I think I don't know better not the time [TS]

00:43:37   anymore yeah I don't either a dismal [TS]

00:43:39   just it just materializes a firearm with [TS]

00:43:41   my DVR but it but there you know people [TS]

00:43:45   get killed in the show and yeah y-yeah [TS]

00:43:47   how many people get shot up I was like [TS]

00:43:49   this is very interesting because i find [TS]

00:43:51   it especially coming from a perspective [TS]

00:43:53   as a writer having a likable or at least [TS]

00:43:57   relatable protagonist who kind of [TS]

00:43:59   indiscriminately kills people is really [TS]

00:44:03   hard because selected from the knees [TS]

00:44:05   right forget sometimes that you're still [TS]

00:44:08   in the head [TS]

00:44:08   yeah right and I mean it so it's like [TS]

00:44:10   you know that's that to me is that is a [TS]

00:44:12   bold choice and I think that's if you're [TS]

00:44:14   gonna I mean you want to back that up [TS]

00:44:15   right like you want to have it shouldn't [TS]

00:44:18   feel cartoony it should have [TS]

00:44:20   consequences you should feel dangerous [TS]

00:44:22   and should feel kind of brutal and if [TS]

00:44:25   you're gonna do something with the [TS]

00:44:26   character along that lines that's very [TS]

00:44:28   interesting to me because I think that's [TS]

00:44:30   something you wrestle with is he having [TS]

00:44:31   a protagonist who is willing to cross [TS]

00:44:33   that line but if it's just comes off as [TS]

00:44:36   to like you know pretty close always [TS]

00:44:39   just you know just kill people that they [TS]

00:44:40   have no meaning right like dat that is [TS]

00:44:43   yeah I mean it's all the 18 no one ever [TS]

00:44:44   dies neil on right now that the car [TS]

00:44:46   would blow up and maybe find yeah i mean [TS]

00:44:48   but it is it is eight it is a show with [TS]

00:44:50   it loses weight right [TS]

00:44:52   Yeah Yeah right any other thoughts about [TS]

00:44:55   person of interest [TS]

00:44:57   well speaking as someone who was [TS]

00:44:58   watching prime suspect thinking this [TS]

00:45:01   person of interest [TS]

00:45:01   haha can be easily if you wore a hat [TS]

00:45:04   examined was blonde I have no opinion of [TS]

00:45:08   the show but i will say prime suspect is [TS]

00:45:10   entertaining i was very confused when i [TS]

00:45:12   was watching the pilot because I I [TS]

00:45:13   wanted to watch whatever a person of [TS]

00:45:15   interest because people on Twitter all [TS]

00:45:17   the nerds I follow on twitter we're [TS]

00:45:18   talking about it was like I should watch [TS]

00:45:20   that ship so I watched the episode of [TS]

00:45:22   private sector house which was unrelated [TS]

00:45:24   and i watch it was like this is a good [TS]

00:45:26   police procedural you know the one that [TS]

00:45:28   has a attitude and she's dealing with [TS]

00:45:31   sexism on the police that's interesting [TS]

00:45:32   but why are all these people talking [TS]

00:45:34   about it on twitter i was very confused [TS]

00:45:35   then I realized i'm an idiot yes [TS]

00:45:38   watching the wrong show [TS]

00:45:38   that's that's my thought process was [TS]

00:45:40   fine but it was one of those shows that [TS]

00:45:43   I you know I I don't need a police [TS]

00:45:46   procedural and yet another police [TS]

00:45:48   procedural in my life I just don't you [TS]

00:45:50   know but it was fine because Maria Bello [TS]

00:45:52   is in that she's good but she's good [TS]

00:45:54   yeah and she has a hat she does have [TS]

00:45:57   she's an aggressive hat i like how a [TS]

00:45:59   personal and that show i like how they [TS]

00:46:01   drink so much I like that a lot to do [TS]

00:46:03   and I also I'll i also like the fact [TS]

00:46:05   that most of the other people on on that [TS]

00:46:09   squad or sort of halfway incompetent [TS]

00:46:14   yeah that's great you know that the [TS]

00:46:16   video that their le clerc's they'll try [TS]

00:46:18   to frame people you know because they [TS]

00:46:20   know i like this guy for this murder so [TS]

00:46:23   I think we should just you know if I [TS]

00:46:25   like that sort of thing that there's you [TS]

00:46:28   know it's it's kind of a path of least [TS]

00:46:31   resistance sort of bureaucratic thing [TS]

00:46:34   that I did strikes me is constant [TS]

00:46:36   realistic so it's kind of a neat show i [TS]

00:46:39   don't know and i think it's interesting [TS]

00:46:40   that the you-know-whats the bellows [TS]

00:46:43   character she's like okay I think that [TS]

00:46:45   the suspect is this guy and clearly if [TS]

00:46:48   you're intelligent [TS]

00:46:50   it is in fact that guy it makes sense [TS]

00:46:52   and other people like your girl what do [TS]

00:46:54   you know [TS]

00:46:55   well i mean i think that was one of the [TS]

00:46:57   challenges I mean obviously this is [TS]

00:46:58   based on a really long and running [TS]

00:47:00   british series with Helen Mirren because [TS]

00:47:03   magnet i think the early nineties and [TS]

00:47:05   you know where the Queen solves crime [TS]

00:47:08   yes the little corgis and i think you [TS]

00:47:12   know i was one of the criticisms I heard [TS]

00:47:14   of it was just people talking about the [TS]

00:47:15   fact that well you know not that that [TS]

00:47:17   the sexism is an interesting angle but [TS]

00:47:19   also that you know the the arguably the [TS]

00:47:22   world of of 20 years ago is a bit [TS]

00:47:25   different than the world of today in [TS]

00:47:26   some regards but i mean i don't know i [TS]

00:47:28   didn't i didn't watch the pilot and I [TS]

00:47:29   I'd i do have fond memories of the [TS]

00:47:31   senior the the earlier one shouldn't [TS]

00:47:34   even be called prime suspect is it [TS]

00:47:35   really has nothing in common [TS]

00:47:37   I it other than those a woman who's a [TS]

00:47:39   detective right i mean and that's you [TS]

00:47:41   know that's that's to the better in some [TS]

00:47:43   ways i know that a lot of times the [TS]

00:47:44   American chose do better when they take [TS]

00:47:46   a departure from the acceleration but [TS]

00:47:49   that's such a honored kind of series [TS]

00:47:52   that that it yeah it seems kinda weird [TS]

00:47:54   day and i'm not quite sure what it [TS]

00:47:56   really has some common but you know but [TS]

00:47:59   it's fine we should we should move on i [TS]

00:48:02   believe somebody wanted to talk about [TS]

00:48:03   american horror story which i think is [TS]

00:48:06   on FX which is from the from the people [TS]

00:48:08   who brought you those fresh face kids [TS]

00:48:10   glee [TS]

00:48:11   so tell me about tell me about american [TS]

00:48:13   horror story because i have not seen it [TS]

00:48:15   and I don't know anything about it other [TS]

00:48:16   than that [TS]

00:48:17   that your coach mrs. coaches in it [TS]

00:48:20   miss yeah oh yeah she's not very mrs. [TS]

00:48:23   kochi here on the premises that Dad [TS]

00:48:27   dylan mcdermott and mrs. kochi are Tami [TS]

00:48:32   Taylor what's your actual name [TS]

00:48:34   Oh Connie Britton bring him all right [TS]

00:48:37   yes they're there a couple who are on [TS]

00:48:38   the outs with one another [TS]

00:48:40   she apparently had a third trimester [TS]

00:48:42   miscarriage last stillbirth that she's [TS]

00:48:44   still recovering from physically and [TS]

00:48:45   psychologically he solved his grief by [TS]

00:48:48   plunging into the arms and other parts [TS]

00:48:50   of an undergrad and so their marriage [TS]

00:48:54   has been under a great deal of strain [TS]

00:48:55   and they decided the best thing to do is [TS]

00:48:58   to subject themselves to another one of [TS]

00:49:00   life's most stressful events which is a [TS]

00:49:01   cross-country location with the sulky [TS]

00:49:03   teenage daughter they end up at this [TS]

00:49:05   huge neo Victorian monstrosity in Los [TS]

00:49:08   Angeles jessica lange is their body next [TS]

00:49:11   door neighbor who says really hateful [TS]

00:49:12   things about the disabled to her [TS]

00:49:14   daughter who happens to have down [TS]

00:49:15   syndrome and [TS]

00:49:17   over the course of a couple episodes you [TS]

00:49:19   discover that the house in which mrs. [TS]

00:49:22   coach and silicon or silicon live is [TS]

00:49:24   simply packed with ghosts [TS]

00:49:26   um it's supposed to be horrifying I [TS]

00:49:30   suppose with the title big American [TS]

00:49:31   Horror Story and all but really the show [TS]

00:49:33   is just so far around around the bend [TS]

00:49:36   that it's it's it's it's kind of a black [TS]

00:49:39   comedy because just when you think that [TS]

00:49:42   it can't get any more ludicrous and that [TS]

00:49:44   people cannot act any less like human [TS]

00:49:46   beings actually act along comes [TS]

00:49:48   something else and you're like okay okay [TS]

00:49:51   we have just moved often incomplete have [TS]

00:49:53   just moved beyond the boundaries of of [TS]

00:49:56   the odd things like that include jessica [TS]

00:49:59   lange making epic cupcakes and sending [TS]

00:50:03   over as a housewarming gift and then [TS]

00:50:04   swatting about the same house small [TS]

00:50:06   giving dramatic monologues about the [TS]

00:50:07   deficiencies of her children [TS]

00:50:09   dylan mcdermott goes jogging with a guy [TS]

00:50:12   who burned his family to death in the [TS]

00:50:14   nineteen seventies and the guy he's [TS]

00:50:15   handing him headshots to check out [TS]

00:50:17   because he wants to be an actor [TS]

00:50:19   there's some weird fetal pig thing that [TS]

00:50:21   lives in the basement and terrifies [TS]

00:50:22   people it's just the only there's a guy [TS]

00:50:25   in a gimp suit running around the house [TS]

00:50:26   too but apparently no one notices him [TS]

00:50:28   let me ask let me ask let me ask perhaps [TS]

00:50:30   what is the what is the like elephant in [TS]

00:50:31   the room question why don't they move [TS]

00:50:33   they can't that they get the address in [TS]

00:50:36   one episode where they haven't they have [TS]

00:50:37   no money apparently moving west [TS]

00:50:39   bankrupted them and since he's a psycho [TS]

00:50:40   you know what's gonna buy that house [TS]

00:50:42   exactly their mortgages underwater and [TS]

00:50:45   covered in board and haunted [TS]

00:50:47   yes that'sthat's basically that's [TS]

00:50:49   basically the premise to go with his own [TS]

00:50:50   words it's the real estate markets in [TS]

00:50:52   such a dramatic downturn is no one will [TS]

00:50:54   ever move into this place so also Connie [TS]

00:50:56   Britton her character is pregnant and [TS]

00:50:58   they're pretty sure the father is the [TS]

00:51:00   ghost camp so that the fetus is [TS]

00:51:02   apparently conspired to keep them in the [TS]

00:51:04   house too and it's just um wow so yeah I [TS]

00:51:08   i could not want to watch this show any [TS]

00:51:11   less than I do right now it is like [TS]

00:51:13   someone took it as like Ryan Murphy was [TS]

00:51:15   like okay I need a dartboard and on that [TS]

00:51:17   dartboard you should have every [TS]

00:51:19   ridiculous horror cliché that has ever [TS]

00:51:21   been in any movies the last 30 years and [TS]

00:51:23   this week I want someone to hand me a [TS]

00:51:26   quiver of 10 darts i'm going to throw [TS]

00:51:29   them at [TS]

00:51:30   bored and whatever it lands on were [TS]

00:51:31   putting it in this episode it's just it [TS]

00:51:34   is ludicrous [TS]

00:51:35   it is a madcap this is like I think [TS]

00:51:38   grant morrison would be like this is a [TS]

00:51:39   little much guys [TS]

00:51:41   maybe maybe lay off of Chris and madcap [TS]

00:51:44   i'm watching on hulu since our DVR is [TS]

00:51:49   always full anyway i'm watching hulu so [TS]

00:51:51   I'm granted i'm a week behind and I [TS]

00:51:53   understand the halloween to partner is [TS]

00:51:55   really kind of an eye krauser but this [TS]

00:51:57   is something where if you get a chance [TS]

00:51:59   to watch it and and you're in the mood [TS]

00:52:00   to laugh yourself silly and and have [TS]

00:52:02   something that makes absolutely no sense [TS]

00:52:03   whatsoever so you're watching it for the [TS]

00:52:06   for the for the last value basically yes [TS]

00:52:09   yes I am [TS]

00:52:10   ok so noted so American Horror Story got [TS]

00:52:13   it i'm going to steer clear that one [TS]

00:52:14   yeah mmm yeah oh I didn't even mention [TS]

00:52:17   there's that the rigor shows with with [TS]

00:52:19   sarah michelle gellar that's awful [TS]

00:52:21   anyone watch that I watched it [TS]

00:52:23   let's get Buffy in it it's really bad oh [TS]

00:52:25   alright good i don't want to get then [TS]

00:52:28   it's really bad this [TS]

00:52:29   no it's it's it's terrible but but she [TS]

00:52:33   doesn't go to the Hamptons but she does [TS]

00:52:34   go out on a boat and it's the worst [TS]

00:52:36   green screen effect you've ever seen [TS]

00:52:38   she's based on the soup it was hilarious [TS]

00:52:40   it's it she's like it's like she's [TS]

00:52:42   standing in front of a painting of the [TS]

00:52:44   sea on a boat and pretending to rock and [TS]

00:52:49   then she falls in at the falling in it's [TS]

00:52:51   like somebody has a cup of water that [TS]

00:52:53   they throw back out it's just it it [TS]

00:52:55   appeared to be you know I don't know if [TS]

00:52:58   they had a it was like a high school [TS]

00:52:59   play it was delightful and but the TV [TS]

00:53:02   critics so I had got that in there in [TS]

00:53:05   their little advanced looking and I know [TS]

00:53:07   a couple TV critics who actually called [TS]

00:53:10   the network and said you're gonna fix [TS]

00:53:12   the special effects right there like oh [TS]

00:53:14   yeah we are [TS]

00:53:15   it'll be better and then that it was not [TS]

00:53:17   it was the same thing she's just in [TS]

00:53:19   front of a backdrop [TS]

00:53:21   wow that's a while it's about it's it's [TS]

00:53:23   it's overly complicated and weird and [TS]

00:53:25   bad and again bad use of twins and split [TS]

00:53:30   screens and things and oh it's bad so [TS]

00:53:33   I'm sorry I even brought it up now quite [TS]

00:53:34   frankly other than that I wanted to beat [TS]

00:53:36   it up and now i will say good news [TS]

00:53:40   well we were recording this happen to [TS]

00:53:42   browse a [TS]

00:53:43   a TV news site and found that we will [TS]

00:53:46   have once upon a time to kick around all [TS]

00:53:48   co got a couple seasons in order know so [TS]

00:53:52   i wanted to mention before we talked [TS]

00:53:54   briefly about returning shows i wanted [TS]

00:53:56   to mention one other show that I don't [TS]

00:53:58   believe anybody here saw so I'm going to [TS]

00:54:00   recap it for you [TS]

00:54:01   having not seen it which is a gifted man [TS]

00:54:03   this is a show that's on a belief CBS on [TS]

00:54:06   Friday nights all you need to know about [TS]

00:54:08   the gifted man is it's the ghost [TS]

00:54:14   whisperer crossed with medium though [TS]

00:54:17   which are essentially the same show but [TS]

00:54:20   i believe in fact that was the premise [TS]

00:54:21   of the show is that the demands dead [TS]

00:54:23   wife comes back and helps himself how [TS]

00:54:25   he's a doctor he's a doctor assets the [TS]

00:54:27   show [TS]

00:54:28   yes that's that show it's not it's not [TS]

00:54:30   person of interest Scott [TS]

00:54:34   my wife will like this show so it's like [TS]

00:54:38   the ghost whisperer except without [TS]

00:54:39   cleavage [TS]

00:54:40   well the ghost has the cleavage this [TS]

00:54:42   time and i believe the ghost is is [TS]

00:54:44   Jennifer ely from Pride and Prejudice I [TS]

00:54:48   i heard about the show but I watched [TS]

00:54:50   prime suspect instead I'm surprised your [TS]

00:54:52   wife hasn't made you watch the show [TS]

00:54:54   Scott don't make don't let her don't let [TS]

00:54:56   her know that it's on [TS]

00:54:58   yeah she's been out of town so but i'm [TS]

00:55:00   sure what she hears about it he'll watch [TS]

00:55:02   it also also starring patrick wilson is [TS]

00:55:05   the main character who's in the watchman [TS]

00:55:07   among other thing is the gifted man of [TS]

00:55:10   media for a he's a gifted man Jason he's [TS]

00:55:13   not necessarily the only one but he's [TS]

00:55:14   well he's the gifted man of the title [TS]

00:55:16   but that's a gifted man like this and [TS]

00:55:20   how is he in [TS]

00:55:22   yeah / / he's over rot he been and you [TS]

00:55:27   didn't say anything you've seen a gifted [TS]

00:55:29   man I yeah just come on out it out saw [TS]

00:55:33   the pilot hated it [TS]

00:55:37   this like four episodes queued up on the [TS]

00:55:40   DVR and I'm and I'm every not a day goes [TS]

00:55:44   by where I'm not tempted to just delete [TS]

00:55:47   them but then my way and generate and [TS]

00:55:50   then I would be killed in my sleep i'm [TS]

00:55:51   going to be killed in my sleep and write [TS]

00:55:53   in any event because before you die you [TS]

00:55:55   just delete them up and then the ghost [TS]

00:55:56   whisperer will talk to you [TS]

00:55:57   yeah but gifted man because over rotten [TS]

00:56:00   terrible don't watch it [TS]

00:56:02   ok don't watch tonight did I mention a [TS]

00:56:04   new show that i forgot that is [TS]

00:56:07   yeah he's right is it by sunset that's [TS]

00:56:09   it is in fact started redline us as the [TS]

00:56:12   prime suspect [TS]

00:56:13   no it's not it's a prime suspect but it [TS]

00:56:15   is a show that i didn't think i would [TS]

00:56:16   like a because it's on stars and [TS]

00:56:19   generally stars his boss it is boss i'm [TS]

00:56:22   really not have a boss boss is so good [TS]

00:56:26   it's a kelsey grammer and it wasn't in [TS]

00:56:28   like the first two minutes because you [TS]

00:56:29   see kelsey grammer anything look it's [TS]

00:56:31   dr. Frasier great but within 22 minutes [TS]

00:56:34   of watching this [TS]

00:56:35   he's not Frasier Crane he is this crazy [TS]

00:56:38   scheming really mean mayor of Chicago [TS]

00:56:42   who has found out that he has a [TS]

00:56:44   neurological disease and he's he has to [TS]

00:56:46   kind of keep it from everyone [TS]

00:56:48   it's just a fantastic show this is this [TS]

00:56:51   is a this appeals to the political [TS]

00:56:54   science geek in me this is like the [TS]

00:56:59   deadwood was another show like that [TS]

00:57:00   which resolves deadline which had a lot [TS]

00:57:04   of things going on but ultimately it was [TS]

00:57:06   that was a that was a show for you know [TS]

00:57:09   political philosophy geeks and and [TS]

00:57:12   bosses a little bit like that too and i [TS]

00:57:15   just i saw that we watched the first [TS]

00:57:17   episode of that and i told i told my [TS]

00:57:19   wife this is my favorite show in the [TS]

00:57:22   universe right now because it's got [TS]

00:57:25   because you know in and you know all the [TS]

00:57:28   hype leading up to the show by the way [TS]

00:57:29   and they went out of their way to say [TS]

00:57:31   Kelsey Grammer is not Richard Daley even [TS]

00:57:34   though there's been an office for 18 [TS]

00:57:36   years and he's the most powerful man in [TS]

00:57:38   the seas not Richard they are going to [TS]

00:57:39   do the total innocence [TS]

00:57:41   I mean the power dynamics that many [TS]

00:57:45   people you know that the patron image [TS]

00:57:47   that the horse trading there's a city [TS]

00:57:49   council meeting in the first episode [TS]

00:57:51   where he this is the whole thing going [TS]

00:57:54   on where they're trying the which is [TS]

00:57:56   based partly on a true story by the way [TS]

00:57:58   where the city is trying to expand [TS]

00:58:02   o'hare airport and they may find it [TS]

00:58:06   Indian burial ground there and this [TS]

00:58:08   becomes of course a huge problem because [TS]

00:58:10   you can't just dig up the Indian burial [TS]

00:58:12   ground and so there has to be so they [TS]

00:58:15   you know they have to attach this this [TS]

00:58:20   they have to give the mayor total [TS]

00:58:22   control of this project they have to do [TS]

00:58:24   it through waste management and it's [TS]

00:58:26   just wonderful low politics it's just [TS]

00:58:30   fantastic and and just great stuff so I [TS]

00:58:33   haven't watched I haven't had a chance [TS]

00:58:34   to watch the second episode yet but it [TS]

00:58:36   is just great [TS]

00:58:37   it is just got aa you ask Great Scott [TS]

00:58:40   you picked a winner [TS]

00:58:41   apparently who do and I don't even like [TS]

00:58:42   politics but Kelsey Grammer is a [TS]

00:58:45   fantastic as a this character the boss [TS]

00:58:48   the boss Tom Kane before we go I want to [TS]

00:58:51   I want to quickly touch base on some [TS]

00:58:53   shows that have returned that we might [TS]

00:58:55   want to mention at least briefly [TS]

00:58:58   the walking dead is back on AMC [TS]

00:59:02   I've only seen the first of of those [TS]

00:59:05   episodes and I feel just as kind of [TS]

00:59:09   lukewarm wish I actually drop the series [TS]

00:59:13   of her [TS]

00:59:13   oh yeah I've been liking season two I [TS]

00:59:16   never I never started watching so I'm [TS]

00:59:19   not John you like it yeah i think we [TS]

00:59:21   have as I've seen I've seen all the [TS]

00:59:22   present three episodes for I in the [TS]

00:59:26   first season I don't feel like they [TS]

00:59:28   didn't really know or maybe they knew [TS]

00:59:30   what they wanted around a little bit of [TS]

00:59:32   whether they were going to be [TS]

00:59:33   concentrating on like the just they have [TS]

00:59:36   to spend some time like the destruction [TS]

00:59:38   of the United States and look at all [TS]

00:59:39   this stuff and the big-budget things in [TS]

00:59:40   there in the city and everybody's dead [TS]

00:59:42   and stuff like but now they've narrowed [TS]

00:59:43   the showdown to just these people that [TS]

00:59:45   you care about now they're going to [TS]

00:59:46   survive and it's almost like the zombies [TS]

00:59:47   are not that important anymore at this [TS]

00:59:50   little manipulative but there's been [TS]

00:59:53   enough interesting moments that it's [TS]

00:59:54   been grabbing my attention like the the [TS]

00:59:57   main storyline which you see setup and [TS]

00:59:59   they want episode you [TS]

00:59:59   they want episode you [TS]

01:00:00   so that's still going on i think im [TS]

01:00:03   gonna be so three or four or something [TS]

01:00:04   and i like it it's perfect you know it's [TS]

01:00:07   not it's not knock my socks off but my [TS]

01:00:10   new episodes coming out i want to see [TS]

01:00:11   what happens i'm interested in the [TS]

01:00:13   people on this show [TS]

01:00:14   yeah I'm interested in I just I it [TS]

01:00:15   leaves me I don't finish one episode and [TS]

01:00:17   Bo I can't wait to watch the next [TS]

01:00:19   episode is more like our and I'll watch [TS]

01:00:20   the next episode [TS]

01:00:21   sometimes it just doesn't doesn't grab [TS]

01:00:24   me at that level so Lisa you you you got [TS]

01:00:26   pushed all the way away from enough [TS]

01:00:28   yes i did any any reason in particular [TS]

01:00:30   to just not let the magic gone or [TS]

01:00:33   whenever that real really that into it [TS]

01:00:35   I hard time getting into it and as the [TS]

01:00:37   season progressed I felt that the [TS]

01:00:39   characters acted less like human beings [TS]

01:00:41   understandable motivations and more like [TS]

01:00:43   obvious standards or symbols where they [TS]

01:00:45   were supposed to mean something or stand [TS]

01:00:46   for something or move the story along [TS]

01:00:48   and so because I couldn't really connect [TS]

01:00:51   to any of the characters or empathize [TS]

01:00:54   with their motivations that much i [TS]

01:00:57   thought you know this already watching [TS]

01:00:59   one show where the characters i don't [TS]

01:01:00   like the human beings and Terra Nova's [TS]

01:01:02   free so yeah the spell was broken yeah [TS]

01:01:09   plus I'm kind of tired of zombies yeah I [TS]

01:01:11   hear you you know i mean i-i don't mind [TS]

01:01:13   reading not i don't mind i do think [TS]

01:01:15   walking dead is a great comic book you [TS]

01:01:17   know it's robert kirkman and I think [TS]

01:01:18   it's really solid work and i think that [TS]

01:01:22   the story plays out well in the comics [TS]

01:01:24   medium it might actually be kind of [TS]

01:01:25   challenging to do in television in the [TS]

01:01:27   way just because your brain doesn't have [TS]

01:01:29   to fill in some of the gory details are [TS]

01:01:31   laid out for you like i said i have a [TS]

01:01:34   hard time connecting the character the [TS]

01:01:35   show inspired me to read all of the [TS]

01:01:37   comics and then the comics ruin the show [TS]

01:01:39   for me because there's so much better [TS]

01:01:41   this comments or nightmare fuel they [TS]

01:01:42   have their friends really good [TS]

01:01:44   they're very grim they are no oh yeah [TS]

01:01:47   the word of the day is grim [TS]

01:01:50   that's you that letter changeup on once [TS]

01:01:54   upon a time it out that said did anybody [TS]

01:01:57   see vm the web only series that they did [TS]

01:02:00   is an interstitial between those cute [TS]

01:02:03   it's like what you're reading is what it [TS]

01:02:05   was all my gosh yeah well I like that [TS]

01:02:07   the production values like it you know [TS]

01:02:09   yeah I could just [TS]

01:02:10   it looks like a web thing it's like they [TS]

01:02:12   gave a guy [TS]

01:02:13   camera and not much of a budget and [TS]

01:02:15   going to film this little story point [TS]

01:02:17   and you know the kind of me trailer for [TS]

01:02:20   dead island was better than that if you [TS]

01:02:21   want to go for it but the trailer for [TS]

01:02:23   dead island probably that's a game by [TS]

01:02:24   the way about zombies probably cost a [TS]

01:02:26   lot more than those webisodes [TS]

01:02:27   so how many times up to the webisodes [TS]

01:02:29   alright so let's talk about the other [TS]

01:02:33   ones that I wanted to bring up i want to [TS]

01:02:34   bring up fringe which is back we talked [TS]

01:02:36   about that a bit last time I believed [TS]

01:02:39   she seen ones having a good season two [TS]

01:02:41   episodes of fringe so far actually i am [TS]

01:02:43   all cut up and i gotta say i I've really [TS]

01:02:45   enjoyed this season it's a you remember [TS]

01:02:48   what I said at the end of the last [TS]

01:02:49   season though I forget what you say John [TS]

01:02:51   my prophecy ask my prophecy probably has [TS]

01:02:54   come to pass and always will be you know [TS]

01:02:56   Pacey has been erased from history well [TS]

01:02:57   what has he been dropped from the show [TS]

01:02:59   now he's still employed so now we have [TS]

01:03:00   to endure season of well what we're [TS]

01:03:02   supposed to forgotten but I sense him i [TS]

01:03:04   said here is the boy and my heart my [TS]

01:03:07   love for me now open the space-time [TS]

01:03:09   continuum at that interested me less [TS]

01:03:11   than Walters interactions with him which [TS]

01:03:14   is that you know what we basically [TS]

01:03:15   thinks he's insane [TS]

01:03:17   I don't want any interactions with him [TS]

01:03:19   if he's erased from history is written [TS]

01:03:21   Mystery he's not he's not what I'm [TS]

01:03:23   liking about the show so far this year [TS]

01:03:24   is that they they did I thought quite a [TS]

01:03:26   brilliant thing in the season finale [TS]

01:03:27   which is create a portal basically merge [TS]

01:03:31   the two universes together in the sense [TS]

01:03:33   that there's a portal and you can just [TS]

01:03:34   walk from one into the other and [TS]

01:03:36   therefore they in the I told this to [TS]

01:03:38   dance city in the city [TS]

01:03:39   yeah yeah exactly and I told i told dan [TS]

01:03:42   after I'd seen the first episode and [TS]

01:03:44   he'd already seen the second i said what [TS]

01:03:45   they need to do is have like a crime [TS]

01:03:47   that can only be solved by going into [TS]

01:03:49   the other and he's like oh that's the [TS]

01:03:50   second episode it's like a little dead [TS]

01:03:52   that's a great i really a lot of that [TS]

01:03:54   second episode which was kind of super [TS]

01:03:56   creepy which basically involved in one [TS]

01:03:58   universe there's a serial killer and in [TS]

01:04:00   this universe is a criminology professor [TS]

01:04:02   so they bring him over to like consult [TS]

01:04:04   but not telling him that he's the [TS]

01:04:06   murderer that their consulting on half [TS]

01:04:08   which I think about halfway through [TS]

01:04:10   unfortunately it loses they decide they [TS]

01:04:13   need to accelerate things but like I [TS]

01:04:15   just sort of SAT there thinking about [TS]

01:04:16   this would be like the creepiest short [TS]

01:04:17   story ever like this would be a great [TS]

01:04:19   short story and I like that I like a lot [TS]

01:04:23   of the parallel universe stuff they do i [TS]

01:04:24   love that they brought [TS]

01:04:26   our universe Lincoln Lee in as the as a [TS]

01:04:29   sort of partner in the interim I like a [TS]

01:04:33   lot of the subtle changes in and some [TS]

01:04:36   not so subtle changes in the way that [TS]

01:04:38   the characters have developed in this [TS]

01:04:40   alternative universe because not only is [TS]

01:04:42   it a parallel universe Peregrino adverse [TS]

01:04:45   but it's an alternate timeline now too [TS]

01:04:47   right [TS]

01:04:48   well so I don't like what they've done [TS]

01:04:49   with the characters are actually don't [TS]

01:04:51   think Olivia they've they've made her [TS]

01:04:52   distinctly different character in some [TS]

01:04:54   in some small ways [TS]

01:04:56   Walter obviously is a very different [TS]

01:04:57   character in many ways like he's [TS]

01:04:59   basically a shut-in he won't leave the [TS]

01:05:00   lab you see all of us the good work that [TS]

01:05:03   Peter has done with him over the past [TS]

01:05:04   three years has totally been you know [TS]

01:05:06   undone and worse the dynamics are [TS]

01:05:09   different you know between the team and [TS]

01:05:10   in some different ways it's I don't know [TS]

01:05:14   I really this is this is one of the [TS]

01:05:15   shows that a key every season it grows [TS]

01:05:17   on me and and I find I like it more and [TS]

01:05:20   more so I'm I'm incident now that I've [TS]

01:05:23   sort of reach far enough that that that [TS]

01:05:25   Peter has become more part of the [TS]

01:05:27   equation so I'm interested to see where [TS]

01:05:30   it goes from here [TS]

01:05:31   has anybody here does anybody here [TS]

01:05:34   listen to or have you ever listened to [TS]

01:05:35   the Phil hungry show [TS]

01:05:37   oh yeah I don't talk radio variety I'm [TS]

01:05:39   sure actually have Lisa it will Henry is [TS]

01:05:42   this this radio talk show host who does [TS]

01:05:44   his own basically his his Colin guests [TS]

01:05:47   are you him he's doing the voices and [TS]

01:05:49   one of the bits that he does from time [TS]

01:05:51   to time is somebody will put somebody on [TS]

01:05:54   hold and they'll force their way off of [TS]

01:05:56   hold their will their way out of all [TS]

01:05:58   that sort of that sort of i thought of [TS]

01:06:01   that with with this whole thing with [TS]

01:06:02   with Peter willing his way out of the [TS]

01:06:05   you know out of non-existence in the [TS]

01:06:07   space-time continuum than that it's been [TS]

01:06:09   good support but you know willing his [TS]

01:06:12   way out of a sort of a metaphysical hold [TS]

01:06:15   as it were [TS]

01:06:16   I like the to Olivia's especially since [TS]

01:06:19   with the alternate history [TS]

01:06:21   Olivia in the main universe she's a [TS]

01:06:23   little bit less of a wet blanket than [TS]

01:06:25   the old one was so seeing her bounce off [TS]

01:06:28   of Olivia yeah like in that episode [TS]

01:06:30   where they crossed over everything that [TS]

01:06:31   that those two characters interests me [TS]

01:06:33   because I think we all kind of talk [TS]

01:06:35   about how we wrote her off a little bit [TS]

01:06:37   as an actress from the beginning of the [TS]

01:06:38   first season because [TS]

01:06:39   it was just kind of blah but then you [TS]

01:06:41   know once she gets to play that other [TS]

01:06:42   characters we sort of come alive and I [TS]

01:06:43   like that interaction i also like to [TS]

01:06:45   alternate yeah she's more [TS]

01:06:47   three-dimensional in in within this [TS]

01:06:49   alternate timeline i also i'm looking [TS]

01:06:52   forward to greatly the moment when when [TS]

01:06:54   Lincoln and Lincoln meet because those [TS]

01:06:56   are two other characters that I think [TS]

01:06:57   are 50 difference of what they've done [TS]

01:07:00   such a great job with the alternates of [TS]

01:07:02   having them be different characters that [TS]

01:07:04   honestly I go long periods of time [TS]

01:07:07   watching the show and this is full [TS]

01:07:09   credit to them not just the special [TS]

01:07:10   effects but the actors into the with the [TS]

01:07:12   writers I go I go long periods of time [TS]

01:07:15   without realizing that i am actually [TS]

01:07:18   watching the same actor playing both [TS]

01:07:21   parts because you know Olivia and her [TS]

01:07:23   duplicate are completely different [TS]

01:07:25   characters and they do have done a very [TS]

01:07:28   good job of that it doesn't feel like [TS]

01:07:30   different mannerisms different speech [TS]

01:07:31   patterns different yeah it's impressive [TS]

01:07:34   yeah it's not like you're watching The [TS]

01:07:35   Parent Trap so they have they have them [TS]

01:07:38   both in the same wigs that was the best [TS]

01:07:39   part because the full Livia is trying to [TS]

01:07:41   round up like a little but you can still [TS]

01:07:42   tell me tell us are even though she's [TS]

01:07:44   trying to look exactly like the other [TS]

01:07:45   one and apparently in and another little [TS]

01:07:48   twist we have the apparently Broyles is [TS]

01:07:51   still alive in the afternoon in the [TS]

01:07:52   canyons they changed history [TS]

01:07:54   simplysilent that was a parallel [TS]

01:07:56   universe alternate timeline that was [TS]

01:07:57   suddenly done actually where they talk [TS]

01:07:59   about Broyles so I am I turned to I'm [TS]

01:08:01   like I don't know why I think he was [TS]

01:08:03   dead so and but it's just like you know [TS]

01:08:05   nobody was here because in that whole [TS]

01:08:08   incident where the full Olivia was in [TS]

01:08:10   our universe yeah and so that ever [TS]

01:08:13   happened because Peter was never there [TS]

01:08:15   yeah it's it's uh yeah it's it's a quite [TS]

01:08:17   a mind-bending kind of thing but it's an [TS]

01:08:19   enjoyable time enjoying it i really am [TS]

01:08:21   having a good series with that i'm [TS]

01:08:22   looking forward to the future episodes [TS]

01:08:24   and I know there are I heard they're [TS]

01:08:25   bringing back jared harris who I really [TS]

01:08:27   loved as an antagonist the from mad men [TS]

01:08:31   alright so i want to also mention before [TS]

01:08:34   we go one more show on my list that i [TS]

01:08:37   want to miss this community which is a [TS]

01:08:38   sitcom [TS]

01:08:39   so why even bring it up but first off [TS]

01:08:42   you're listening to this podcast you [TS]

01:08:43   have a watch community [TS]

01:08:44   you owe it to yourself to watch it just [TS]

01:08:47   try it i think there is there so much in [TS]

01:08:50   there that that people have a gear [TS]

01:08:52   persuasion [TS]

01:08:53   will love that one episode in particular [TS]

01:08:56   which is called remedial chaos theory in [TS]

01:08:58   which the characters live a seven [TS]

01:09:02   different alternate timelines based on [TS]

01:09:04   who goes downstairs to get the pizza is [TS]

01:09:08   one of the funniest things i've i've [TS]

01:09:10   seen on TV and like five or ten years [TS]

01:09:12   great episode and then you you you nerds [TS]

01:09:16   out there may also appreciate the [TS]

01:09:18   running gag this season where one of the [TS]

01:09:20   characters Abed discovers a new TV show [TS]

01:09:23   that is my favorite show which is called [TS]

01:09:26   Inspector Spacetime which may resemble [TS]

01:09:28   other long-running British shows a or [TS]

01:09:33   not as i understand it there's another [TS]

01:09:35   particular british show which is [TS]

01:09:37   basically just a ripoff of Inspector [TS]

01:09:38   Spacetime yes yes it is a knockoff of [TS]

01:09:41   its an inspector spacetime is a is a [TS]

01:09:43   British police inspector who with his [TS]

01:09:48   partner who is a a British cop with a [TS]

01:09:51   big tall Hatton and a nightstick they [TS]

01:09:54   travel in a phone booth through time and [TS]

01:09:57   space and so it's a long-running show [TS]

01:09:59   has been on since the sixties yes yes [TS]

01:10:02   inspector spacetime anyway so that's [TS]

01:10:04   that's in there and and and remedial [TS]

01:10:07   chaos theory fantastic episode with [TS]

01:10:09   multiple timelines great show lots of [TS]

01:10:12   insane premises that make it that's what [TS]

01:10:15   makes it not just your regular your [TS]

01:10:16   regular run-of-the-mill sitcom they they [TS]

01:10:18   try very hard to do kind of outlandish [TS]

01:10:21   episodes and i love i love community [TS]

01:10:24   dearly so i want to recommend it and [TS]

01:10:27   this season has 100% more John Goodman [TS]

01:10:29   which yes it does with animals percent [TS]

01:10:32   more Omar from the wire and yes I work [TS]

01:10:35   for the wires in it as I was rather than [TS]

01:10:38   one of my favorite random aside moments [TS]

01:10:41   in this entire season is what happened [TS]

01:10:42   to legos you'll know what I'm talking [TS]

01:10:46   about it and I didn't know what he was [TS]

01:10:48   talking about [TS]

01:10:49   yes yes I know exactly anybody of a [TS]

01:10:52   certain age knows exactly what it is [TS]

01:10:54   talking about yeah [TS]

01:10:55   yes none of these conversations I'm [TS]

01:10:57   having make any sense but that's [TS]

01:10:59   it's a love that show clearly that they [TS]

01:11:04   gonna do a puppet episode in musical [TS]

01:11:05   episode 2i it's only a matter of time [TS]

01:11:07   they've done a claymation episode so [TS]

01:11:09   they did they did and the dungeons [TS]

01:11:11   dragons contest last year which was a [TS]

01:11:12   fantastic summer houses and yes [TS]

01:11:16   paintball episodes each other so many [TS]

01:11:17   good so many good episodes yes you do it [TS]

01:11:19   to yourself to watch watch community [TS]

01:11:21   placement any other shows coming back at [TS]

01:11:23   you guys particularly like that you want [TS]

01:11:25   to give a public to announce the time we [TS]

01:11:26   have a conversation with myself about [TS]

01:11:28   supernatural season 7 has been excellent [TS]

01:11:30   conversation with myself about haven but [TS]

01:11:34   that's just it'sit's another [TS]

01:11:35   entertaining little it's the end of the [TS]

01:11:37   week you don't want to think too hard [TS]

01:11:38   its favorite starfish [TS]

01:11:40   yes I find network that the amanda [TS]

01:11:43   tapping protects an alien animals from [TS]

01:11:45   now you know that's what everyone know [TS]

01:11:49   anybody that show is the real so yeah [TS]

01:11:51   that's been sanctuary oh that I think [TS]

01:11:54   you should see century seems like it [TS]

01:11:56   should be about months and visualization [TS]

01:11:58   sanctuary [TS]

01:12:00   yeah it's absolutely it's yeah [TS]

01:12:01   absolutely no this is basic basically [TS]

01:12:05   it's a show where the episodes have here [TS]

01:12:07   you're an FAA ran an FBI agent who may [TS]

01:12:10   or may not actually that page [TS]

01:12:12   she's not sure has to deal is is exiled [TS]

01:12:15   to a small main town where and she deals [TS]

01:12:17   with a freak of the week while also [TS]

01:12:18   unraveling kuester ultimately this is [TS]

01:12:21   based on a stephen king it was nominally [TS]

01:12:24   based on going to sweat it okay yeah in [TS]

01:12:26   that they were both written in english [TS]

01:12:28   language haha well takes place in Maine [TS]

01:12:30   come on yes that's what i think is [TS]

01:12:32   copyrighted mean by this point hasn't [TS]

01:12:34   yes that's what you want higher state of [TS]

01:12:36   Maine to get a permission from Stephen [TS]

01:12:38   King to film in Maine or to say they [TS]

01:12:40   were filming me [TS]

01:12:41   yeah purgatory this man okay so Haven so [TS]

01:12:45   Haven so it's it's it's it's funny it's [TS]

01:12:47   it's it's got a nice light sensing about [TS]

01:12:49   itself and they give give people credit [TS]

01:12:51   for for being able to pay attention from [TS]

01:12:53   week to week but they it's also good [TS]

01:12:54   show did in and out if you don't want to [TS]

01:12:56   pay a lot of attention and have slowed [TS]

01:12:57   decompression of a plot over an entire [TS]

01:12:59   season write and draw and sorry dan dan [TS]

01:13:02   loves supernatural why you know I i will [TS]

01:13:05   say i will say that that grim is a poor [TS]

01:13:06   man supernatural sorry SI it is you have [TS]

01:13:10   never seen maybe for natural but I don't [TS]

01:13:12   get it does [TS]

01:13:12   it does the it does it better does the [TS]

01:13:15   supernatural the creepy strange [TS]

01:13:18   creatures and monsters thing it does it [TS]

01:13:20   better but their know-how there no there [TS]

01:13:23   no teen teen heartthrobs and grandma do [TS]

01:13:25   you think that guy wasn't cast because [TS]

01:13:27   it's a heartthrob really knows cast [TS]

01:13:30   because the guy who looks like branded [TS]

01:13:32   rufiyaa for her superb acting ability [TS]

01:13:35   yeah you're just clearly alright [TS]

01:13:37   supernatural so if you like rim you love [TS]

01:13:40   supernatural travel back in time eight [TS]

01:13:42   years and watch that instead it's all [TS]

01:13:44   gonna be on netflix oh it's very good [TS]

01:13:46   then I'll watch it right all right any [TS]

01:13:50   other returning shows we should we [TS]

01:13:52   should make the listeners aware of what [TS]

01:13:54   my sunday nights a banish my wife from [TS]

01:13:57   the liver and because you cannot watch [TS]

01:13:58   walking dead because it's too tense for [TS]

01:14:00   her and then after walking dead i watch [TS]

01:14:02   dexter so Dexter is back and she she can [TS]

01:14:05   tell you like to unwind on sunday nights [TS]

01:14:07   but you're telling i do I like to watch [TS]

01:14:08   zombies in serial killers any and then [TS]

01:14:11   you're covered in blood and need to [TS]

01:14:12   rinse off before center time [TS]

01:14:14   ah ok any other shows before we go any [TS]

01:14:17   other things you'd like to recommend any [TS]

01:14:19   play shows i watch that I'm not gonna [TS]

01:14:20   recommend alright so so on that note now [TS]

01:14:24   that we've given people I it's like a [TS]

01:14:27   dozen shows they can watch only a few of [TS]

01:14:30   which we actually recommend so we [TS]

01:14:32   basically wasted [TS]

01:14:34   not only this hour of the listeners time [TS]

01:14:37   but many other hours of their lives will [TS]

01:14:39   be watching these TV shows that we're [TS]

01:14:41   job well done [TS]

01:14:42   tweet me if you want to watch revenge on [TS]

01:14:43   pacific time that's very good LOL [TS]

01:14:46   Schwyzer anything wanna watch revenge on [TS]

01:14:48   pacific time and join in the fun [TS]

01:14:51   the Hamptons will never be the same [TS]

01:14:53   after the revenge is wrought [TS]

01:14:55   Oh or other thing altitude into revenge [TS]

01:14:58   but of course i will end up watching [TS]

01:15:00   process but it's got it he's got to this [TS]

01:15:04   TV is like what there's only private the [TS]

01:15:06   only show that's on its right again [TS]

01:15:08   every channel its prime suspect [TS]

01:15:11   its main irate Scott's TV lady no it's [TS]

01:15:15   not that's right [TS]

01:15:15   soon we'll find Scott and he'll be where [TS]

01:15:18   Maria Bello goes to the Hamptons prevent [TS]

01:15:21   yeah so so we've now covered many many [TS]

01:15:25   shows from the falsies [TS]

01:15:26   is only hope we've maybe maybe made you [TS]

01:15:28   interested in something that you were [TS]

01:15:30   otherwise not interested in or maybe or [TS]

01:15:33   maybe lisa has frightened you away from [TS]

01:15:35   American Horror Story oh no I guess that [TS]

01:15:37   this thing is it is a work of lunatic [TS]

01:15:41   I wouldn't say brilliance maybe it's [TS]

01:15:43   just shiny blue tick shininess yeah and [TS]

01:15:47   shiny and when in doubt just ask scott [TS]

01:15:49   Mykelti and he'll tell you that the show [TS]

01:15:51   he's watching his prime suspect [TS]

01:15:52   exactly check that out of things we've [TS]

01:15:54   learned profits prime suspect all the [TS]

01:15:56   way down all the way down if you turn [TS]

01:15:58   lbc on chances are prime suspect but [TS]

01:16:00   suspect will be on unless its community [TS]

01:16:02   it was a prime suspect [TS]

01:16:04   so until next time I want to thank my [TS]

01:16:06   guess who watch a lot of TV which is [TS]

01:16:09   nice because i don't have enough time to [TS]

01:16:11   watch all that myself I have to delegate [TS]

01:16:13   tv-watching to others it's this is my [TS]

01:16:15   life so thank you to Scotland LT thank [TS]

01:16:19   you very much thank you for watching TV [TS]

01:16:21   and and I'm and you and your wife need [TS]

01:16:24   to work out some sort of deal where you [TS]

01:16:26   don't have to watch a gifted man if she [TS]

01:16:29   doesn't have to watch the walking dead [TS]

01:16:30   that's that is true i don't want to [TS]

01:16:32   watch it but i think i'm going to okay [TS]

01:16:35   well it was nice knowing you I'm sorry [TS]

01:16:37   John siracusa thank you for thank you [TS]

01:16:39   for being here as always thank you all [TS]
