00:00:14   [Music] [TS]

00:00:20   [Music] [TS]

00:00:42   welcome back everybody to be [TS]

00:00:43   uncomfortable very special episode is [TS]

00:00:44   number three hundred we got a lot going [TS]

00:00:46   on we're going to do sort of a couple [TS]

00:00:48   different panels were going silly stuff [TS]

00:00:50   at the end because it's us but the for [TS]

00:00:53   this is the dead serious panel as you [TS]

00:00:55   can tell because I got very serious [TS]

00:00:56   people here to talk about a subject that [TS]

00:00:58   Glenn fleischmann suggested so let me [TS]

00:01:00   introduce my first panel here i'm going [TS]

00:01:02   to do it in order of their appearances [TS]

00:01:04   on the incomparable darienne more'n [TS]

00:01:06   still our leader [TS]

00:01:08   hello Dan hi Jason my Mami's that we've [TS]

00:01:11   survived 300 episodes and i look forward [TS]

00:01:14   to another 300 well thanks for being the [TS]

00:01:16   only panelist who has been on more than [TS]

00:01:17   half of the episodes [TS]

00:01:19   well you're welcome that's right a check [TS]

00:01:21   that jet checks in the mail [TS]

00:01:23   uh-huh John siracusa with a hundred and [TS]

00:01:26   twelve episode appearances not including [TS]

00:01:30   this one [TS]

00:01:30   hello are you sure the dan isn't getting [TS]

00:01:32   credit for some of my appearances work [TS]

00:01:37   on that vocal recognition software a [TS]

00:01:39   little more needs to fine-tune this [TS]

00:01:41   hotel [TS]

00:01:42   well you don't you don't read so much so [TS]

00:01:44   maybe I didn't let them saying you don't [TS]

00:01:48   read but maybe i'm just on episodes of [TS]

00:01:49   things down the whole time I've been [TS]

00:01:51   paying John to be me sorry [TS]

00:01:53   okay stop worrying that makes sense [TS]

00:01:56   stretch stretch checks out [TS]

00:01:57   David lore is our fifth most common [TS]

00:02:00   panelist because he says yes to every [TS]

00:02:03   invitation I david i consume a lot of [TS]

00:02:07   pop culture and I blame you [TS]

00:02:10   mm okay fair enough we'll get into that [TS]

00:02:12   we'll get into that in a little bit ly [TS]

00:02:14   schmeiser r8 most common panelist and [TS]

00:02:17   with us in episode two [TS]

00:02:19   hi Lisa hi there I'm thrilled to be here [TS]

00:02:22   I'm always trying to be here most of you [TS]

00:02:23   were present at the start and you [TS]

00:02:24   definitely were on its recent your comic [TS]

00:02:27   books love that was our second episode [TS]

00:02:28   yeah that's right or straight with jason [TS]

00:02:32   reitman discussing now on all Batman [TS]

00:02:34   comics all vertigo comics actually yeah [TS]

00:02:37   it was it was really it was really about [TS]

00:02:39   the UM the unrest ESO yeah yeah we [TS]

00:02:41   actually did have a topic for the comic [TS]

00:02:43   book club i'm like our early days were [TS]

00:02:45   recovered many different subjects in she [TS]

00:02:46   is ok we don't do the opposite now I [TS]

00:02:50   worry ambitious or did we just think it [TS]

00:02:52   was you [TS]

00:02:52   we were only going to go for like 30 [TS]

00:02:54   episodes and it didn't matter actually I [TS]

00:02:55   think we thought it had to be like a [TS]

00:02:57   like a radio program or every segment is [TS]

00:02:58   five to six minutes long and you have to [TS]

00:03:00   switch else you can't keep people's [TS]

00:03:01   attention but no problem and out [TS]

00:03:03   differently if they've listened this far [TS]

00:03:06   yeah so I mean she see it seems like she [TS]

00:03:10   was late to the party but the fact is [TS]

00:03:11   that now she I think she's been around [TS]

00:03:13   for about half the episodes and the end [TS]

00:03:15   has been on more than 50 of them it's [TS]

00:03:16   erica and sign [TS]

00:03:17   hi-yah and not quite half 160 was my [TS]

00:03:20   very first it fondly Klaus 133 was mine [TS]

00:03:24   pretty pretty soon pretty soon and I i [TS]

00:03:28   can't forget him he suggested this [TS]

00:03:30   episode yet and so by the second [TS]

00:03:32   definition of blending he shouldn't be [TS]

00:03:33   on it but he is its when fleischmann [TS]

00:03:35   number 7 on our list with more than 70 [TS]

00:03:38   appearances [TS]

00:03:39   hi Glenn while I not what I want to know [TS]

00:03:41   is how many upsets i'm not on mi [TS]

00:03:43   insulted or my name taken of a thats [TS]

00:03:46   needs to be the CMS to 298 Colin I'm [TS]

00:03:50   often surprised for the transcription [TS]

00:03:52   boss will come in handy because I'm [TS]

00:03:53   trying to look for your name and train [TS]

00:03:55   and train them to listen for the [TS]

00:03:56   syllables blending and see what comes [TS]

00:03:57   out soon i want to call it something [TS]

00:04:00   else [TS]

00:04:01   Glenn you suggested this and I think [TS]

00:04:02   it's good that did be a little [TS]

00:04:03   introspective for 300 episode the idea [TS]

00:04:06   that perhaps our methods of changing or [TS]

00:04:09   a consumer media have changed in the [TS]

00:04:11   last 300 weeks more or less that we've [TS]

00:04:15   been doing this this show so I thought [TS]

00:04:17   that would be a good way a good a good [TS]

00:04:19   way to start a sword and i'm going to [TS]

00:04:21   start with you if you think back to 2010 [TS]

00:04:22   and and tell me how is your media [TS]

00:04:26   consumption changed and specifically the [TS]

00:04:28   podcast influence to what you've you [TS]

00:04:31   know how you watch movies and read books [TS]

00:04:33   and things like that or or not let me [TS]

00:04:36   know what you think dan I think it has [TS]

00:04:38   changed for me a bit the the most [TS]

00:04:40   notable thing i was thinking before I [TS]

00:04:42   came on tonight was that I got back into [TS]

00:04:45   reading potta comic books largely I [TS]

00:04:48   think because of the incomparable I've [TS]

00:04:50   had a marvel unlimited subscription for [TS]

00:04:52   I don't know [TS]

00:04:53   well over a year now year and a half so [TS]

00:04:56   and I've consumed a lot i mean certainly [TS]

00:04:58   more comic books that I in the last year [TS]

00:05:01   and a half then i read since I was [TS]

00:05:02   probably in high school and actively [TS]

00:05:05   behind [TS]

00:05:05   books like single-issue comic books and [TS]

00:05:09   I think a lot of that is because you [TS]

00:05:10   know certainly the influence of people [TS]

00:05:12   like Tony similar who's you know my good [TS]

00:05:13   friend and recognized recommends a lot [TS]

00:05:15   of comic books but also because of the [TS]

00:05:16   stuff that we talked about on the show [TS]

00:05:17   and he honestly the stuff that we talked [TS]

00:05:20   about sort of as our own little [TS]

00:05:21   community and in our slack and stuff [TS]

00:05:24   like that I feel like I've got much more [TS]

00:05:26   exposure to that which is great I it [TS]

00:05:29   i've really enjoyed getting back into [TS]

00:05:30   that the the other things i would think [TS]

00:05:33   that I have mainly been sort of affected [TS]

00:05:35   by this are i do find that there are [TS]

00:05:38   some things I read my or watch much more [TS]

00:05:40   closely because i know we're going to [TS]

00:05:42   talk about it so I've always been a [TS]

00:05:44   terrible note taker in college I took [TS]

00:05:48   very ape-like you can look at my [TS]

00:05:49   notebooks for college and usually it's [TS]

00:05:51   like oh the first two classes he took a [TS]

00:05:53   like trying to write down a lot of crap [TS]

00:05:55   and then it just sort of Peters out and [TS]

00:05:58   I was never very good at it because I [TS]

00:06:00   was usually pretty good at retaining [TS]

00:06:01   what i read but I felt like you know I [TS]

00:06:04   certainly as I've gotten older and as we [TS]

00:06:06   talked about stuff more and more [TS]

00:06:07   in-depth I feel like I need to write [TS]

00:06:09   down those you know insights or stuff [TS]

00:06:11   that I feel like I come across when [TS]

00:06:13   watching or reading something so i [TS]

00:06:16   actually you know especially when we do [TS]

00:06:18   something like an old movie club or when [TS]

00:06:21   i'm doing i even the weekly TV shows [TS]

00:06:23   that i do on arrow for example i find [TS]

00:06:26   myself taking notes during episodes [TS]

00:06:27   about things to bring up and that's not [TS]

00:06:30   something I mean that sounds a lot more [TS]

00:06:32   like work and fun to me so I'm surprised [TS]

00:06:35   that I actually do it and then I guess [TS]

00:06:38   the one other thing that's kind of sad [TS]

00:06:40   that has come out of recording and being [TS]

00:06:42   on over half the episodes of this show [TS]

00:06:44   is that i really don't listen to [TS]

00:06:46   podcasts anymore [TS]

00:06:51   they're supposed to be about this but I [TS]

00:06:56   spent way too much time recording and [TS]

00:06:58   editing podcasts and so is someone who [TS]

00:07:00   works from home and does not have a [TS]

00:07:02   commute and has a job that involves [TS]

00:07:04   either editing podcasts or writing it's [TS]

00:07:06   really hard to find time to listen to [TS]

00:07:08   podcast so I've only recently gotten [TS]

00:07:11   into hello from the magic tavern and [TS]

00:07:13   that's got to be the first podcast and i [TS]

00:07:15   have listened to multiple episodes of [TS]

00:07:16   for a super long time like that i'm a [TS]

00:07:19   regular listener of like there's a lot [TS]

00:07:21   of other shows I dabble in all right [TS]

00:07:22   listen two parts of but I really can't [TS]

00:07:25   keep up especially you know I used to be [TS]

00:07:28   a big fan of a lot of tech podcast and [TS]

00:07:30   as those have also gotten super long is [TS]

00:07:32   listen like macbreak weekly every [TS]

00:07:33   weekend like I no longer have like three [TS]

00:07:35   hours three hours [TS]

00:07:37   yeah to listen to a podcast sorry I'm [TS]

00:07:39   kind of busy and I think probably [TS]

00:07:40   quantities to write like you know I [TS]

00:07:42   certainly have always been a big TV fan [TS]

00:07:45   but I said try to watch a lot more to [TS]

00:07:48   keep up-to-date with it the one part [TS]

00:07:49   that I'm kind of said about and I'm [TS]

00:07:50   trying to do better about now is read [TS]

00:07:52   more books because i always used to read [TS]

00:07:54   a lot i think now that we have so much [TS]

00:07:56   media available to us and we spend a lot [TS]

00:07:58   of time and talking about and discussing [TS]

00:08:00   things like movies and TV shows i find [TS]

00:08:02   it very easy to sort of sit down and [TS]

00:08:04   watch a TV show for 45 minutes or an [TS]

00:08:06   hour and it's a lot harder for me to [TS]

00:08:09   make sure that i'm spending time reading [TS]

00:08:10   books as well and so as you can tell [TS]

00:08:12   from my notable as over the years as my [TS]

00:08:15   appearances on the hugo podcast gonna [TS]

00:08:17   slit on the rails as every year it's [TS]

00:08:20   like man there's a huge stack of books I [TS]

00:08:22   want to read on my on my night a table [TS]

00:08:25   and the hugo ones are often kind of [TS]

00:08:28   middle towards the bottom of them and I [TS]

00:08:30   just like decided a certain point well [TS]

00:08:31   i'm gonna read the books I want to read [TS]

00:08:32   not the books i feel like i have to read [TS]

00:08:34   huh [TS]

00:08:35   and if i get around to those those you [TS]

00:08:36   go books at a later date [TS]

00:08:38   that's great but i'm not going to just [TS]

00:08:41   you know sit down and force myself to [TS]

00:08:43   read those just for that reason so I [TS]

00:08:47   it's it's been a lot up and down but I [TS]

00:08:48   think positive for the most part in [TS]

00:08:50   terms of feeling like I feel like I love [TS]

00:08:53   discussing all this stuff and that's why [TS]

00:08:54   I've been on so many episodes of the [TS]

00:08:55   podcast and so it's great to feel like [TS]

00:08:57   I'm more engaged with the stuff that I [TS]

00:09:01   am consuming rather than just having so [TS]

00:09:03   much of it be like I've [TS]

00:09:05   watching this just to watch it and then [TS]

00:09:06   you'll forget about five minutes after I [TS]

00:09:08   watched it so I think all of you have [TS]

00:09:10   really helped me increase my [TS]

00:09:12   appreciation of pop culture or in some [TS]

00:09:14   cases much more fun increasing your [TS]

00:09:17   snarkiness and assembly powers of things [TS]

00:09:21   like yeah I don't know pretty much any [TS]

00:09:24   episode I get to be on with lisa is [TS]

00:09:25   always fun because i like hearing I like [TS]

00:09:27   hearing everything sort of dissected and [TS]

00:09:29   i always think to myself well that's a [TS]

00:09:30   really great point I hadn't thought [TS]

00:09:31   about how terrible but it's daniel are [TS]

00:09:35   definitely gonna have to team up and do [TS]

00:09:36   something with them the flash cast in [TS]

00:09:38   the air cast the summer because we need [TS]

00:09:40   a summer vacation project we do need a [TS]

00:09:42   summer vacation project I'm all over [TS]

00:09:43   that [TS]

00:09:43   so there you go Jason I hope that is I [TS]

00:09:46   hope that satisfactory so basically more [TS]

00:09:48   podcasts then in this in the summer for [TS]

00:09:50   your vacation [TS]

00:09:51   it is a little bit like I was trying to [TS]

00:09:53   come up with an example of it's like [TS]

00:09:54   well once you were once you're inside [TS]

00:09:55   the box you don't want me to take tours [TS]

00:09:59   of other boxes right it's just later in [TS]

00:10:01   like I am your you're making you're [TS]

00:10:03   making a podcast you're in the podcast [TS]

00:10:05   you don't need to listen to them you're [TS]

00:10:06   in them [TS]

00:10:07   yeah I don't don't take tours of boxes [TS]

00:10:09   Jason that's my first trip to you cannot [TS]

00:10:11   really it's really boring [TS]

00:10:13   yeah there once you're inside the box [TS]

00:10:14   especially you've been in a box you [TS]

00:10:16   don't need to go see other boxes i think [TS]

00:10:18   yeah I could soon maybe I'm a box [TS]

00:10:21   monogamist I don't know yet anyway does [TS]

00:10:24   it does that was that was really great [TS]

00:10:26   dan you mentioned Lisa so why don't we [TS]

00:10:28   why don't we why don't we move to Lisa [TS]

00:10:29   Lisa you know what one of the things [TS]

00:10:31   when this podcast was being thrown [TS]

00:10:35   around I mean with the original impetus [TS]

00:10:36   for the podcast was a Twitter thread [TS]

00:10:40   about science science fiction novels [TS]

00:10:41   that are a bunch of people were we [TS]

00:10:43   talking about again was in on that [TS]

00:10:45   thread and Glen and Scot McNulty and uh [TS]

00:10:49   market and John were you there too to [TS]

00:10:52   read books I keep being written out of [TS]

00:10:53   that threat every time you retell it so [TS]

00:10:55   here I am [TS]

00:10:56   I think I can render I think now John [TS]

00:10:59   doesn't read anything the records jump [TS]

00:11:02   on he's adding a three-volume series on [TS]

00:11:05   Mac os10 so what was happening that was [TS]

00:11:07   happening on Twitter and then parallel [TS]

00:11:09   to that Lisa and I were talking about [TS]

00:11:11   doing a comic book club [TS]

00:11:13   well with Jason Reitman who we work with [TS]

00:11:15   who had user user work for a comic book [TS]

00:11:18   publisher and published his own comic [TS]

00:11:20   and all that and and we talked about [TS]

00:11:21   doing that as a podcast and those were [TS]

00:11:23   the two threads that led to the creation [TS]

00:11:25   of the uncomfortable and so our first [TS]

00:11:26   episode was the book episode and the [TS]

00:11:29   second episode was the comical club [TS]

00:11:31   episode and those two we recorded before [TS]

00:11:33   we have a name [TS]

00:11:34   those were the trials and so so this is [TS]

00:11:37   a long way of saying you know Lisa you [TS]

00:11:38   really were there present the beginning [TS]

00:11:39   because that was one of the ideas was [TS]

00:11:42   can we get together on a regular basis [TS]

00:11:44   and talk about you know a particular [TS]

00:11:46   comic that we've read and do a book club [TS]

00:11:48   style and that was absolutely one of the [TS]

00:11:50   one of the things so I want I wanted [TS]

00:11:52   before I ask you what how it's changed [TS]

00:11:54   for you over the last five or six years [TS]

00:11:55   i want to thank you because you've also [TS]

00:11:57   exposed me to a whole lot of great stuff [TS]

00:11:59   especially comics that I wouldn't I i [TS]

00:12:02   had not really gotten that much back [TS]

00:12:03   into comics back in 2010 and so you've [TS]

00:12:06   been able with your knowledge of that [TS]

00:12:08   area to guide me so I I so thank you for [TS]

00:12:10   that [TS]

00:12:11   oh my gosh i'm about to crack OH instead [TS]

00:12:15   of crying yet wanted to tell us how your [TS]

00:12:17   consumption the media has changed its [TS]

00:12:19   the Glen topic last in the last five and [TS]

00:12:22   a half years last three weeks yeah well [TS]

00:12:24   this is um and this is proud a position [TS]

00:12:28   that i don't think a lot of the other [TS]

00:12:29   panelists will find themselves in this [TS]

00:12:32   podcast debuted approximately two months [TS]

00:12:35   before it became apparent so when I [TS]

00:12:38   recorded the first comic book clubs i [TS]

00:12:40   was like super pregnant and you know [TS]

00:12:41   like we had this big boom mic we had to [TS]

00:12:43   pull towards because i couldn't pull a [TS]

00:12:45   little a little hot room with no air and [TS]

00:12:47   a giant my phone in a large pregnant [TS]

00:12:49   lady he asked it was good times good [TS]

00:12:52   times but I'm so that's what I've been [TS]

00:12:56   trying and trying to take over super [TS]

00:12:58   quickly is how much my media consumption [TS]

00:13:01   changed as a result of being [TS]

00:13:03   uncomfortable and and wanting to remain [TS]

00:13:05   a part of it [TS]

00:13:06   how much media consumption changed by [TS]

00:13:08   virtue of having to treat my free time [TS]

00:13:11   much differently and I think the answer [TS]

00:13:16   that is I've actually gotten very very [TS]

00:13:18   picky about what I consume and that's [TS]

00:13:22   probably function of both but one of the [TS]

00:13:24   reasons is a since I now have access to [TS]

00:13:27   so many people on the incomparable who [TS]

00:13:30   knows so much about so many different [TS]

00:13:32   types of media all I basically have to [TS]

00:13:34   do is kind of run it through a filter [TS]

00:13:35   and what do you think of this and night [TS]

00:13:37   I know how they tend to approach this [TS]

00:13:39   topic and what they do and don't like [TS]

00:13:41   so this is what they said so i'll [TS]

00:13:43   probably like this to our of this is [TS]

00:13:44   what they said no I'm not gonna like it [TS]

00:13:46   what's been nice looking couple is [TS]

00:13:47   giving me such a great excuse to just [TS]

00:13:49   buy more comics because I'm i had [TS]

00:13:54   actually begin tapering off a bit [TS]

00:13:56   we r garage got to fall and I got rid of [TS]

00:13:59   all my long boxes and I was like okay [TS]

00:14:01   I'm just gonna stick to three or four [TS]

00:14:02   shelves of trade papers and back and [TS]

00:14:04   that's it and then what the challenge [TS]

00:14:06   challenge the comic book club was to try [TS]

00:14:07   to find a book bundle that we could pass [TS]

00:14:09   on to readers and to try to tie the [TS]

00:14:12   particular that the specific works into [TS]

00:14:14   like the bigger comic book picture and [TS]

00:14:16   that's been like such a great excuse to [TS]

00:14:17   go wandering down you know water down [TS]

00:14:19   all these different like writerly [TS]

00:14:21   alleyways or Eleanor or artist alley [TS]

00:14:24   ways that I never would have had a [TS]

00:14:25   chance to otherwise or top just get big [TS]

00:14:27   bundles of books I would have never [TS]

00:14:28   thought to put together i do listen to [TS]

00:14:31   podcasts but the problem is now it's one [TS]

00:14:34   of two things for my crew that's [TS]

00:14:35   terribly edited for poor yea or i find [TS]

00:14:41   myself getting annoyed at the way the [TS]

00:14:44   host may be bigfooting over their guests [TS]

00:14:46   or I am grossly jealous because my oh my [TS]

00:14:50   god these people do this full time they [TS]

00:14:51   have all this time it sounds so great i [TS]

00:14:53   hate you so there's like five or six [TS]

00:14:57   podcast I kind of rotate through and I [TS]

00:14:59   have to control myself sometimes that [TS]

00:15:01   you know when your NPR you're going to [TS]

00:15:02   have resources available to you that you [TS]

00:15:04   know other people are not going to and [TS]

00:15:06   it's going to sound different [TS]

00:15:07   accordingly and but i think the biggest [TS]

00:15:11   way is I've gotten back into movies in a [TS]

00:15:13   big way because you know someone so much [TS]

00:15:15   time in the day there's not so much [TS]

00:15:16   reading you can do and i had not [TS]

00:15:19   and 8i I had sort of fallen out they [TS]

00:15:21   have to watching movies because they're [TS]

00:15:22   kind of a time commitment when you think [TS]

00:15:23   about it you know you have to sink in [TS]

00:15:26   it's it's it's a hundred it's like you [TS]

00:15:27   know anywhere from from 90 minutes 280 [TS]

00:15:30   minutes depending on the movie and how [TS]

00:15:31   long is this like there's a night when [TS]

00:15:34   filling my watch this boot [TS]

00:15:35   I swear to god it was like a week the [TS]

00:15:38   doctors got a dog food does last a week [TS]

00:15:40   and you're still watching it now Lisa [TS]

00:15:43   sorry I'm the corner of my eye that's [TS]

00:15:45   wrong i was running around up but you [TS]

00:15:49   know thanks to again the podcast that [TS]

00:15:51   we've had here it's been it's been great [TS]

00:15:53   to to say okay I'm going to make the [TS]

00:15:54   space for that and watch them and then [TS]

00:15:56   you try to get back in a conversation [TS]

00:15:59   the one thing that I would like to [TS]

00:16:03   change that i have not been able to is [TS]

00:16:05   my ability to sit down in read a novel [TS]

00:16:07   from from cover to cover or just sit [TS]

00:16:10   down and sing into book that's I've had [TS]

00:16:12   a lot of difficulty with that the [TS]

00:16:13   passage routes and um I wish I could [TS]

00:16:17   read more [TS]

00:16:17   or rather i wish i could read more stuff [TS]

00:16:19   because right now I'm just doing a whole [TS]

00:16:20   lot of reading and i'm ok i wonder is in [TS]

00:16:24   some sense the incredibles kind of push [TS]

00:16:26   me to present because I gotta admit what [TS]

00:16:27   comes around to award season and you're [TS]

00:16:30   like oh I have this enormous archive [TS]

00:16:32   with material we can pass around we can [TS]

00:16:34   discuss this I'm like oh god I just [TS]

00:16:35   don't have time its too daunting I can't [TS]

00:16:39   you through it and so then I'll like go [TS]

00:16:41   and run and reread pattern recognition [TS]

00:16:43   for the third time or whatever because [TS]

00:16:46   that I know what I'm getting there so [TS]

00:16:48   it's kind of sparkly ironic that i'm [TS]

00:16:51   reading less science fiction since I do [TS]

00:16:53   like it and I do like fantasy but I i [TS]

00:16:56   think in some ways maybe the the the [TS]

00:16:58   books of emphasis and especially [TS]

00:17:00   awards-season type stuff when this is [TS]

00:17:02   all this stuff takter against daunting [TS]

00:17:04   like I literally have no idea where I'd [TS]

00:17:05   start eating the elephant so [TS]

00:17:08   congratulations on making me read less [TS]

00:17:10   in coppell walk away [TS]

00:17:14   yeah we live to serve is what I'm saying [TS]

00:17:17   speaking of reading last chance here [TS]

00:17:20   huge sigh of the Christian not reading [TS]

00:17:22   things you can read you're not an [TS]

00:17:25   illiterate person but you you've said [TS]

00:17:27   that you know you're you're you're [TS]

00:17:28   limited in the inn [TS]

00:17:29   the novels that you read you definitely [TS]

00:17:31   are on our patrick rothfuss episodes [TS]

00:17:32   about the name of the wind and the wise [TS]

00:17:34   man's fear and and some others to [TS]

00:17:36   understand I understand yes well Stephen [TS]

00:17:39   King absolutely so but i'm curious just [TS]

00:17:41   broadly John what do you know what has [TS]

00:17:43   changed [TS]

00:17:44   uh and what are your thoughts about how [TS]

00:17:46   you consume media of the last 300 weeks [TS]

00:17:48   last five and a half years and realize [TS]

00:17:50   that the the second level angle the show [TS]

00:17:52   would be how the incumbent has ruined [TS]

00:17:53   our lives so should I don't really think [TS]

00:17:55   you got something to say how you have [TS]

00:17:57   been on the show has hurt me in some way [TS]

00:17:59   I can reasonably expected that come to [TS]

00:18:02   the second level Glenn is already there [TS]

00:18:04   the show killed my father's you can no [TS]

00:18:06   longer right OS 10 reviews its destroyer [TS]

00:18:08   was actually not very critical before [TS]

00:18:10   the show that's right now look what [TS]

00:18:14   happened actually might night the first [TS]

00:18:16   thing that came to mind believe it or [TS]

00:18:18   not Jason was that not in the past [TS]

00:18:21   several years that I've been doing this [TS]

00:18:22   podcast i look back most of the books [TS]

00:18:25   that I've read have been books I've read [TS]

00:18:27   for the show so i think is making me [TS]

00:18:31   read more a little bit more maybe not a [TS]

00:18:33   lot more but a little bit more than I [TS]

00:18:34   you still in particular it has made me [TS]

00:18:36   do a lot more sort of whatever call [TS]

00:18:38   panic reading where he had a book until [TS]

00:18:42   that you look at the calendar and there [TS]

00:18:43   are two days left before the show and [TS]

00:18:45   like it's a patrick rothfuss book and [TS]

00:18:47   you've got 475 pages left and then you [TS]

00:18:49   just read like the wind huh yeah i'll [TS]

00:18:54   get exactly a and rereading which is not [TS]

00:18:59   really i think that i mean i have read [TS]

00:19:00   The Stand several times on my own before [TS]

00:19:02   podcast existed but you know to go back [TS]

00:19:05   through it again for a podcast that [TS]

00:19:07   something i wouldn't have done the [TS]

00:19:08   second thing is as other people have [TS]

00:19:11   mentioned comics although i'm coming [TS]

00:19:12   from a different place i was i never [TS]

00:19:14   read comics that I'd like comics I still [TS]

00:19:16   don't really like comics that you know I [TS]

00:19:18   just I didn't have a face when I was [TS]

00:19:20   into them that i fell out of them [TS]

00:19:21   I was just out of them completely and [TS]

00:19:22   hearing a bunch of seemingly intelligent [TS]

00:19:25   adults talk about comics passionately [TS]

00:19:28   and have very interesting things to say [TS]

00:19:30   about them and got talking about comics [TS]

00:19:33   that I didn't know existed at all you [TS]

00:19:34   know because comics if you if you're not [TS]

00:19:35   into comes you think I promise you think [TS]

00:19:37   of superheroes and stuff but it's [TS]

00:19:38   obviously so much more to it and I [TS]

00:19:40   didn't know that until I will [TS]

00:19:41   listen to these episodes made me try a [TS]

00:19:44   couple of comics and read a couple of [TS]

00:19:47   comic series some which I actually [TS]

00:19:48   finished and that would never have [TS]

00:19:50   happened without the show [TS]

00:19:51   unfortunately didn't be talking about [TS]

00:19:53   how the hospital has ruined my life [TS]

00:19:55   although this one series that I like the [TS]

00:19:56   best I listened to the entire and [TS]

00:19:58   comfortable episode about it before [TS]

00:20:00   reading the series and so I kind of knew [TS]

00:20:02   everything that happened in it which was [TS]

00:20:04   kind of a bummer so I kind of pretty [TS]

00:20:05   spoiled myself but that's definitely [TS]

00:20:08   something i would not have done if not [TS]

00:20:10   for the uncomfortable and then the final [TS]

00:20:12   thing getting more towards the vein of [TS]

00:20:14   housing complex hurt me is uh what's [TS]

00:20:17   that was incompetent episodes i find now [TS]

00:20:19   often substitutes for consuming the [TS]

00:20:23   media so if I see this incredible [TS]

00:20:24   episode about a movie that I was on the [TS]

00:20:26   fence about seeing I now have to choose [TS]

00:20:29   should I listen to the episode or should [TS]

00:20:31   i watch the movie and listen to the [TS]

00:20:33   episode and very often i say well I [TS]

00:20:34   probably don't have time to do both so [TS]

00:20:36   why not just listen to the episode [TS]

00:20:37   instead of watching and we'll be or are [TS]

00:20:39   reading the book or whatever maybe [TS]

00:20:40   because that's almost as good right like [TS]

00:20:43   the bill tell me what happened in it and [TS]

00:20:45   then I'll here analysis of it and then [TS]

00:20:47   I'll feel like i have experienced it [TS]

00:20:48   even though i haven't actually [TS]

00:20:49   experienced it [TS]

00:20:51   maybe that's actually a net win because [TS]

00:20:53   it saves time but not the other things [TS]

00:20:55   people said like watching of media more [TS]

00:20:57   critically and paying more attention [TS]

00:20:59   that that didn't change because i always [TS]

00:21:01   did that because i love this podcast [TS]

00:21:03   right that's right that's right you were [TS]

00:21:06   already there you're taking notes for a [TS]

00:21:07   podcast that didn't exist as he notes [TS]

00:21:10   before before anyone want to hear what [TS]

00:21:11   the hell those notes four o'clock my [TS]

00:21:13   wife she got them whether you want them [TS]

00:21:15   or not [TS]

00:21:16   yeah I'm sure she's like she's like [TS]

00:21:17   she's like I don't know [TS]

00:21:19   folding laundry and you're like I got a [TS]

00:21:21   brief opening statement i have been [TS]

00:21:24   known in the age of tivo I have been [TS]

00:21:25   known to pause the show ya to explain a [TS]

00:21:30   particular thing that has just appeared [TS]

00:21:31   on screen usually angle mom hasn't done [TS]

00:21:33   that they're filming it all the time [TS]

00:21:35   let's imagine my girlfriend my [TS]

00:21:36   girlfriend is that does that a lot [TS]

00:21:37   especially when it's like they're [TS]

00:21:39   ruining this female characters [TS]

00:21:40   my wife has has it has a particularly [TS]

00:21:44   we've been married for more than 20 [TS]

00:21:45   years and there's one expression on her [TS]

00:21:47   face that only i ever see when I pause [TS]

00:21:49   the tivo in the middle of making out [TS]

00:21:51   father and it's like all right I just [TS]

00:21:53   got to get I we just let's get through [TS]

00:21:55   this one of my favorite moments is the [TS]

00:21:58   one we went to go see gosford park we [TS]

00:22:00   actually that fancy went to go see in [TS]

00:22:02   the theater which is not in keeping with [TS]

00:22:04   our usual style of seeing movies but I [TS]

00:22:07   were watching it and this is the parkway [TS]

00:22:09   in oakland there's one point where [TS]

00:22:11   someone says something and fills arm [TS]

00:22:13   shot out and he made like the teapot [TS]

00:22:14   button just because we want to stop the [TS]

00:22:18   right then and aspects it but would you [TS]

00:22:23   like but the expression that raced [TS]

00:22:25   across his face when he realized because [TS]

00:22:27   researchers the fury [TS]

00:22:28   wait why can't do this man oh that's [TS]

00:22:30   right I can't do this let's consider the [TS]

00:22:33   bookmark for later like like I will I [TS]

00:22:35   will come in on what just happened later [TS]

00:22:37   oh yeah look like number one footnote [TS]

00:22:39   right here about this [TS]

00:22:42   yeah it's um that's why a lot of a lot [TS]

00:22:45   of solar there it's good i'm glad Jon [TS]

00:22:46   I'm glad we've given you an outlet [TS]

00:22:48   I and conectate can't take credit was [TS]

00:22:51   this the first podcast you were ever on [TS]

00:22:52   I don't remember I don't know how the [TS]

00:22:54   chronology works and say yes yes you can [TS]

00:22:58   try to feel free i think i think i may [TS]

00:23:01   have been on some five-by-five thing not [TS]

00:23:03   hyper growling gasps yeah before that [TS]

00:23:05   political status i'm gonna take ya I'm [TS]

00:23:07   gonna take full credit that so they're [TS]

00:23:09   responsible for John circles being a [TS]

00:23:11   pocket you take blame for not having me [TS]

00:23:13   on until episode 3 so that they can it's [TS]

00:23:16   true there's the early days well if you [TS]

00:23:18   would read the ten books that we talked [TS]

00:23:19   about in episode 10 depends on that is [TS]

00:23:21   the first TV show [TS]

00:23:23   yeah that's right yeah that's right [TS]

00:23:25   Glenn pointed out a typo in the show [TS]

00:23:27   notes just earlier today 297 weeks later [TS]

00:23:31   we got it we gotta fix folks it's not [TS]

00:23:33   there you don't look because it's not [TS]

00:23:34   there [TS]

00:23:35   better late than never react exactly so [TS]

00:23:38   speaking of late uh one of one of our [TS]

00:23:40   people who joined us midstream as I said [TS]

00:23:42   at the beginning Erica I I knew about [TS]

00:23:45   you through listening to the very [TS]

00:23:47   podcast and through listening to the [TS]

00:23:51   2-minute I'm Lord not going to chip in [TS]

00:23:52   and chip [TS]

00:23:53   has been on the show a bunch to head out [TS]

00:23:55   you know what was sort of my gateway [TS]

00:23:57   into like all the Doctor Who podcast and [TS]

00:23:59   I listen to very and I thought erica [TS]

00:24:00   sounds like somebody who might be a good [TS]

00:24:02   fit for us and you know what I i I'm I'm [TS]

00:24:05   really glad that works oh good workout [TS]

00:24:08   but I had a motor like well I'm just [TS]

00:24:10   gonna take a flyer I'm gonna sound like [TS]

00:24:11   a crazy person on the internet being [TS]

00:24:13   like would you like to be on my podcast [TS]

00:24:14   but you were on the matrix episode which [TS]

00:24:16   you saw in the theater like eight times [TS]

00:24:17   or something something nine times nine [TS]

00:24:20   just kind of the right time I only miss [TS]

00:24:22   nosey really your last name one time and [TS]

00:24:25   I edited that out it you were not alone [TS]

00:24:29   in that many many people have done a oh [TS]

00:24:31   yeah and you didn't seem like a total [TS]

00:24:33   crazy crazy person because i had seen [TS]

00:24:35   you on a podcasting panel at the gallery [TS]

00:24:38   one doctor who commotion [TS]

00:24:39   uh-huh so you were in that audience i [TS]

00:24:42   didn't even receive see so so you saw me [TS]

00:24:44   and I didn't I didn't even know about [TS]

00:24:45   that right now when you and I didn't see [TS]

00:24:47   you so who's the stalker now I had no [TS]

00:24:51   idea who you were so i'm not sure i'm [TS]

00:24:53   just talking but but but at least I had [TS]

00:24:56   sort of some reference you were your guy [TS]

00:24:59   chip new was basically so it exactly [TS]

00:25:01   sure it's all about chip [TS]

00:25:03   yeah he's not here it all comes back to [TS]

00:25:04   change so so 2 plus years of being on [TS]

00:25:07   this podcast uh you know how it and of [TS]

00:25:10   course you were on your own Verity [TS]

00:25:12   before that so have been on podcasts how [TS]

00:25:17   was that changed your relationship with [TS]

00:25:19   with the media you consume you know it a [TS]

00:25:23   lot like what people have said already [TS]

00:25:25   it has changed both of things that I [TS]

00:25:27   consume and the way that I consume them [TS]

00:25:29   and and some of it does get laid at [TS]

00:25:31   Barry's feet but i think i think some of [TS]

00:25:33   it a lot of it gets late at the [TS]

00:25:34   incomparable feet because verities just [TS]

00:25:37   doctor who and comfortable goes into a [TS]

00:25:38   lot of different directions that are not [TS]

00:25:40   doctor who [TS]

00:25:41   so I i remember being on that first [TS]

00:25:44   episode that i was on a about the matrix [TS]

00:25:47   and being super nervous because i had [TS]

00:25:49   only ever talked about Doctor Who in a [TS]

00:25:51   podcast before so when i watch the [TS]

00:25:53   matrix I i took lots and lots and lots [TS]

00:25:55   and lots of notes and I had I went to [TS]

00:25:57   film school so I did the film criticism [TS]

00:25:59   thing and I hated it with a fiery [TS]

00:26:02   passion that was the person that I could [TS]

00:26:04   not stand at all [TS]

00:26:06   and because I wasn't good at it I just I [TS]

00:26:08   just absolutely sucked at watching [TS]

00:26:10   something and taking it apart and my [TS]

00:26:11   critical faculties were not at all [TS]

00:26:13   developed and apparently over time they [TS]

00:26:16   must have like marinated in my brain and [TS]

00:26:18   and improved and gotten better and maybe [TS]

00:26:20   very helped a little bit over time [TS]

00:26:22   because as i was taking notes for that [TS]

00:26:24   episode it was just it was all coming [TS]

00:26:26   back to me as like I'm noticing this and [TS]

00:26:28   I noticed that and I i had a lot to say [TS]

00:26:31   and was kind of surprised by that [TS]

00:26:33   so them the more time went on and the [TS]

00:26:35   more practice I got with that i think i [TS]

00:26:37   think i have improved as a podcaster as [TS]

00:26:39   far as is what i notice and what I'm [TS]

00:26:41   able to to bring to the table a lot [TS]

00:26:44   since that time so so so I think [TS]

00:26:47   operable has made my life better not [TS]

00:26:49   worse and I'm still listening to other [TS]

00:26:52   podcast and but while I listen to a lot [TS]

00:26:55   of Doctor Who podcast will put it that [TS]

00:26:56   way here and there are so many of them [TS]

00:26:59   so many there are [TS]

00:27:01   remember when there was one that was [TS]

00:27:04   there was one at one point now there's [TS]

00:27:06   like a thousand of yeah actually the [TS]

00:27:07   first one was German so I would never [TS]

00:27:09   have listened to it anyway because it [TS]

00:27:10   happened in english up [TS]

00:27:12   yep we're good at chapter and chapter [TS]

00:27:15   chapter markers so but but as far as the [TS]

00:27:21   things that I consume yeah I almost all [TS]

00:27:26   of my media consumption these days is [TS]

00:27:28   just focused around what what needs to [TS]

00:27:30   be done for one podcast or another my [TS]

00:27:33   life has changed very much in that way [TS]

00:27:35   and I don't mind that's that's fine [TS]

00:27:37   because that means i am guaranteed to [TS]

00:27:40   have somebody to talk to about whatever [TS]

00:27:43   i'm watching on the rare shows that i [TS]

00:27:45   watch that that other people don't like [TS]

00:27:47   i watch the good wife and I don't really [TS]

00:27:48   know anybody in real life who watches [TS]

00:27:51   that so it's a little bit sad because [TS]

00:27:53   that's the only show i watch that I [TS]

00:27:55   don't have somebody to come around to [TS]

00:27:57   you know to go back and forth with so [TS]

00:27:59   it's kind of it's kind of a bummer so [TS]

00:28:01   I'm always excited when i get to do this [TS]

00:28:03   and it totally brought me back into [TS]

00:28:04   reading books again i had sort of given [TS]

00:28:07   up on novels for a long time because I [TS]

00:28:08   just been busy and that the couple book [TS]

00:28:10   club episodes i started out being on and [TS]

00:28:12   then the award season reading that was [TS]

00:28:15   really fun i was it was just it was nice [TS]

00:28:17   to to dig back into books I mean [TS]

00:28:19   I I got so excited about it Stephen [TS]

00:28:21   actually bought me a kindle paperwhite [TS]

00:28:22   so had I not started reading for the [TS]

00:28:24   uncomfortable i might not have gotten [TS]

00:28:26   that gadget so her and Scott McNulty [TS]

00:28:28   approves you and then we need another [TS]

00:28:32   person on that panel because dan didn't [TS]

00:28:34   want to do the reading so you know your [TS]

00:28:37   and Erica and ir twinsies so it worked [TS]

00:28:40   out perfectly [TS]

00:28:41   I'm just something in its a smooth [TS]

00:28:43   transition we want your twinsies are I [TS]

00:28:45   don't know this i don't know this part [TS]

00:28:47   of things are you guys twinsies soon [TS]

00:28:48   perfect now can I was actually a line [TS]

00:28:51   just agree on Doctor Who a lot and many [TS]

00:28:53   many other things [TS]

00:28:54   yeah well I so the wayward nemec's your [TS]

00:28:56   yes exactly exactly understand okay yeah [TS]

00:28:59   but by the transitive property I guess [TS]

00:29:01   you're also dance nemesis and he's [TS]

00:29:03   already got one though I don't know you [TS]

00:29:05   already Scott's already covers a primary [TS]

00:29:07   alright what you did and you can cover [TS]

00:29:09   Scott and then I'll take the client-side [TS]

00:29:11   actually got a good that divide and [TS]

00:29:13   conquer it Glenn is kinda like a [TS]

00:29:14   freelance nemesis for whoever needs one [TS]

00:29:16   at any given time for this command sure [TS]

00:29:18   he knows all the other nemesis alright [TS]

00:29:21   David so so the story with you is that [TS]

00:29:23   you wrote you you see you've been [TS]

00:29:25   lurking for a long time like I remember [TS]

00:29:27   you and I were both fans of the original [TS]

00:29:29   TV talk machine podcasts back in the day [TS]

00:29:32   well even more i was i was a long time [TS]

00:29:34   reader and occasional commenter on TV [TS]

00:29:36   dot org Sudan or yeah I go all the way [TS]

00:29:39   back to like the first design of the [TS]

00:29:41   site other way way back when the [TS]

00:29:44   animated gif of the of the of the [TS]

00:29:46   sparkling TV set and all of that yeah [TS]

00:29:47   which is which is for people who don't [TS]

00:29:49   know TV door is essentially the [TS]

00:29:50   predecessor of the incomparable it was a [TS]

00:29:53   blog before they even have been the name [TS]

00:29:55   blog that we started in about 95 and [TS]

00:29:58   have a bunch of people on it who wrote [TS]

00:29:59   for it like Lisa and Phil Michaels and [TS]

00:30:01   Monty ashley and Steve lights and Greg [TS]

00:30:03   moss and uh yeah so so you were I [TS]

00:30:08   recognize you from that and from the TV [TS]

00:30:10   talk machine you're always around and I [TS]

00:30:11   knew that you replace all of that and [TS]

00:30:13   then all of a sudden we had this crazy [TS]

00:30:14   idea about what if we did a radio drama [TS]

00:30:17   episode is a change of pace and I and so [TS]

00:30:21   you wrote that and we did that as our as [TS]

00:30:23   a radio drama episode and at which point [TS]

00:30:26   you were around so you then begin [TS]

00:30:28   appearing on literally every other [TS]

00:30:30   what happened after that well it was [TS]

00:30:32   weird when i first discovered the [TS]

00:30:35   incomparable itself because i think i [TS]

00:30:37   started listening around the third or [TS]

00:30:39   fourth episode and then went back and [TS]

00:30:41   listened to the first three and it was [TS]

00:30:44   survived because it just sort of [TS]

00:30:45   appeared on my radar and then I realized [TS]

00:30:48   oh wait it's everybody who is a TV [TS]

00:30:49   dot-org ah of course i like it so I [TS]

00:30:52   started listening to it and then had [TS]

00:30:54   been listening to the TV talk machine [TS]

00:30:56   the the old-school TV talk machine for I [TS]

00:30:59   don't know how long it had been on by [TS]

00:31:00   that point I don't know I kept going to [TS]

00:31:02   pick up like skipping months but not you [TS]

00:31:04   me both get every now and then like you [TS]

00:31:07   know Tim would talk about the theme of [TS]

00:31:09   Jason listener Jason help me with the [TS]

00:31:11   theme Jason's just a mystery Jason you I [TS]

00:31:13   was your superfan never mentioned your [TS]

00:31:15   last name and then somewhere along the [TS]

00:31:17   line he mentioned your last name and my [TS]

00:31:19   brain went oh my god it's just [TS]

00:31:21   inconsiderate ever been you know there's [TS]

00:31:24   like oh my God he's on all the podcast [TS]

00:31:27   yes but yeah so yeah that then it was [TS]

00:31:30   sort of like a well we connect on [TS]

00:31:32   Twitter and we're doing this and doing [TS]

00:31:33   that and talking about Tim and Tim is [TS]

00:31:36   like the Super connector I don't know [TS]

00:31:38   our but yeah you know i mean it even [TS]

00:31:42   before doing anything on the podcast [TS]

00:31:44   just as a listener it started changing [TS]

00:31:47   the way i consumed things because I [TS]

00:31:50   started to intentionally watch something [TS]

00:31:53   you know all this episode is about [TS]

00:31:55   raiders of the lost ark i'll watch it [TS]

00:31:56   again you know not like I haven't [TS]

00:31:58   watched it 40 times by that point but [TS]

00:32:01   i'll watch it so that it's fresh and [TS]

00:32:03   they had to listen to the show and you [TS]

00:32:06   know or or books you know I I had kind [TS]

00:32:10   of fallen out of reading science fiction [TS]

00:32:11   books for a long time at that point and [TS]

00:32:14   I listened to I don't know one of the [TS]

00:32:16   first Hugo episodes or something huh [TS]

00:32:19   that sounds interesting i meant i'm [TS]

00:32:20   actually like that because it got to a [TS]

00:32:23   point where I would listen anyway [TS]

00:32:25   whether i had read or watched her play [TS]

00:32:27   the game or whatever you guys were [TS]

00:32:29   talking about just because i really like [TS]

00:32:31   the conversation and I like the you know [TS]

00:32:33   it wasn't even just the the bantering of [TS]

00:32:34   it just the the critical analysis of [TS]

00:32:37   things so it's like okay i don't i'm not [TS]

00:32:40   going to watch this movie but it's [TS]

00:32:42   really fascinating [TS]

00:32:43   conversation right that any bets the [TS]

00:32:47   John siracusa approach to some of these [TS]

00:32:48   things is I don't need to really watch [TS]

00:32:50   it if I can I feel like I've understood [TS]

00:32:52   right away during a recipe you can [TS]

00:32:53   substitute some ingredients for others [TS]

00:32:55   and if you don't have you don't have any [TS]

00:32:57   flower just take the incompetent episode [TS]

00:32:58   about flower and pathetic but don't you [TS]

00:33:01   know that is not sound cooking advice [TS]

00:33:02   this is not a cooking buddy getting [TS]

00:33:04   naughty being called the world is not [TS]

00:33:05   food and and so yeah I mean it since [TS]

00:33:09   joining it's really kind of focused my [TS]

00:33:13   media consumption [TS]

00:33:15   I mean I'm kind of omnivorous you Jason [TS]

00:33:17   you have been in my house you know what [TS]

00:33:19   that is full of books and dvds yes the [TS]

00:33:22   fire hazard actually it is look at that [TS]

00:33:24   is you don't want to look in the garage [TS]

00:33:27   Oh God but in that and that's just like [TS]

00:33:30   the stuff that i have that isn't virtual [TS]

00:33:32   so you know i'm interested in so many [TS]

00:33:34   things i want to read so many things [TS]

00:33:37   this is sort of forced me to focus on [TS]

00:33:40   you know we're reading this for three [TS]

00:33:43   weeks from now we're watching this for [TS]

00:33:45   two weeks from now and it's nice and [TS]

00:33:48   it's it's also been nice to be able to [TS]

00:33:51   talk about these things because I you [TS]

00:33:53   know I'm in the middle of Indiana I [TS]

00:33:54   don't have people here to talk about [TS]

00:33:56   Kiki things with so it's been nice to [TS]

00:33:59   have that outlet and especially things [TS]

00:34:03   like the old movie club i think with [TS]

00:34:07   maybe one or two exceptions so far [TS]

00:34:09   they've all been movies I've seen [TS]

00:34:10   multiple times so it's been funded to go [TS]

00:34:14   back and revisit them and then talk [TS]

00:34:16   about them and look at them with fresh [TS]

00:34:18   eyes because you know I never watched [TS]

00:34:21   them critically before or or this [TS]

00:34:23   critically and then and then just the [TS]

00:34:27   the thought of reading and experiencing [TS]

00:34:29   things that I wouldn't normally read [TS]

00:34:31   like station eleven not a book i would [TS]

00:34:35   normally have read not a book I was [TS]

00:34:36   crazy about but i'm glad that i read it [TS]

00:34:38   and even something like a lock-in by [TS]

00:34:44   john scalzi which is a book that I said [TS]

00:34:46   I was not going to read because you have [TS]

00:34:48   me to you know it's I mean it's very [TS]

00:34:51   similar to what my mother had before she [TS]

00:34:53   passed away and then realizing that [TS]

00:34:56   eh it was probably okay to read it and [TS]

00:34:59   be if i read it i have a group of people [TS]

00:35:02   that I can talk about that with and I'm [TS]

00:35:03   okay with that you know and I might not [TS]

00:35:05   have done that if i didn't have that [TS]

00:35:07   group i love you guys [TS]

00:35:10   Oh everybody then and then you know this [TS]

00:35:16   podcast is over he was gonna have a nice [TS]

00:35:20   for when they're like oh gosh that's [TS]

00:35:23   coming [TS]

00:35:24   no no butBut been doing the radio [TS]

00:35:28   theater stuff has been wonderful just on [TS]

00:35:32   the creative side but also revisiting [TS]

00:35:35   all the things that are influences for [TS]

00:35:37   it and paying more attention to those [TS]

00:35:39   now too and going ok how did they do [TS]

00:35:40   this how can I do this to you know so [TS]

00:35:44   it's it's it's really enriched the way I [TS]

00:35:48   consume a lot of media as for listening [TS]

00:35:50   to other podcasts I listen I still [TS]

00:35:54   listen to ninety-nine percent invisible [TS]

00:35:56   and the memory palace all the time but [TS]

00:35:59   they're short you know how the memory [TS]

00:36:01   palace is usually less than 10 minutes [TS]

00:36:03   long [TS]

00:36:04   ninety-nine ninety-nine percent visible [TS]

00:36:06   is like 15 to 20 minutes at most [TS]

00:36:09   so they're very short song explode or a [TS]

00:36:11   lot of a lot of radio topia shows those [TS]

00:36:15   and then just shows on the BBC i have [TS]

00:36:17   the iplayer app on my the by player [TS]

00:36:20   radio happens or it's two different apps [TS]

00:36:22   now on my phone and so I listen to a lot [TS]

00:36:24   of BBC you know maybe one show a day [TS]

00:36:27   there long ones i don't really listen to [TS]

00:36:31   much the flophouse even the flap has now [TS]

00:36:35   that's it's sort of edging up to 90 [TS]

00:36:37   minutes in two hours and times as wait [TS]

00:36:39   how many minutes is that all podcasts [TS]

00:36:41   want to be 90 minutes if you get our [TS]

00:36:43   light it [TS]

00:36:44   yeah now all snuggled I don't have you [TS]

00:36:46   got my dad to take over it make them as [TS]

00:36:49   long as somebody's the average commute I [TS]

00:36:51   say yeah right let me let me tell you [TS]

00:36:52   about a podcast the dam and i do that's [TS]

00:36:55   out there [TS]

00:36:56   robot or not actually is even better if [TS]

00:36:59   you just want to work robot yeah it's [TS]

00:37:01   great for you [TS]

00:37:02   I listen to that all the time too but [TS]

00:37:05   yeah you know it's weird like listening [TS]

00:37:07   to the flight path i'll do that while [TS]

00:37:08   I'm trying to go to sleep and and so [TS]

00:37:10   I'll just drift off at some point I have [TS]

00:37:12   no idea where where I left off and then [TS]

00:37:15   all of a sudden one of their ads comes [TS]

00:37:17   on in the middle of the show that just [TS]

00:37:18   jolted me awake and then I get angry so [TS]

00:37:20   I don't listen for a couple weeks so [TS]

00:37:23   yeah i just i tend to listen to shorter [TS]

00:37:25   ones I'm not listening to fiction was [TS]

00:37:28   very much because i don't want to copy [TS]

00:37:29   styles which is that's always a [TS]

00:37:31   dangerous thing for writer boy that's [TS]

00:37:35   why I read nonfiction when i'm writing [TS]

00:37:36   because if I'm reading addiction i will [TS]

00:37:38   just copy that style it's not it's not [TS]

00:37:40   like I'm trying it just that's what's in [TS]

00:37:42   my head while I'm writing ago [TS]

00:37:44   ok ah well so I haven't come to go and [TS]

00:37:47   yet you have suggested this topic so i [TS]

00:37:49   guess well I guess I guess its role [TS]

00:37:51   anytime [TS]

00:37:52   yeah sorry we got Jason what about you [TS]

00:37:55   I I'll yes I i will answer this question [TS]

00:37:57   after asking a Glen to Glen tell us it's [TS]

00:38:00   been 300 it's been 300 week's issue [TS]

00:38:03   since we had that conversation on [TS]

00:38:04   Twitter about the city in the city and [TS]

00:38:07   here we are [TS]

00:38:08   so how have things changed for you in [TS]

00:38:10   the last five and a half years it has [TS]

00:38:11   been a long time since episode number [TS]

00:38:12   one it's true and yet we're still here I [TS]

00:38:14   haven't worn you down yet have intruded [TS]

00:38:16   you can't exactly and we still have the [TS]

00:38:18   plants because we'll always have [TS]

00:38:19   supplements and always applicants well [TS]

00:38:22   what everybody said I just so whatever [TS]

00:38:24   reset that's it it's a I i think i feel [TS]

00:38:28   i can carpool has helped me find my [TS]

00:38:29   tribe that's the phrase always liked [TS]

00:38:31   where I've been key for a long time I've [TS]

00:38:34   never felt particularly self-conscious [TS]

00:38:35   about even that went to really egghead [TS]

00:38:38   junior high and high school and you know [TS]

00:38:41   off to Eastern colleges and whatever so [TS]

00:38:43   it wasn't like I had a dearth of people [TS]

00:38:45   who had read hitchhiker's guide or [TS]

00:38:47   sci-fi or watch the movies i did it was [TS]

00:38:50   always kind of part of what I did and I [TS]

00:38:52   probably read a lot more sci-fi and [TS]

00:38:53   fantasy and beyond what was involved the [TS]

00:38:56   media of that comic books especially [TS]

00:38:57   when I said my single years and [TS]

00:39:00   single-digit years and teenager but I [TS]

00:39:02   feel like I kind of a gap I moved to [TS]

00:39:05   Seattle over 20 years ago [TS]

00:39:07   and cut a lot of friends here who are [TS]

00:39:10   more let's say like general culture [TS]

00:39:11   friends so i didn't have people here I [TS]

00:39:13   bonded over it where I found my geeks [TS]

00:39:15   was when I traveled and macworld was one [TS]

00:39:19   of the places and you know one source to [TS]

00:39:21   backwards year or maybe WWDC and I go to [TS]

00:39:24   that I want to until like 2000-2001 a [TS]

00:39:26   dot-com crash i would sometimes go to [TS]

00:39:29   six or seven conferences a year or [TS]

00:39:31   something like it and I get a hook up [TS]

00:39:32   with people who share those interests [TS]

00:39:34   that's where I found my tribe was kinda [TS]

00:39:36   on the road more than I realized and so [TS]

00:39:38   when I when the dot humping collapse was [TS]

00:39:41   traveling less and it's looking at [TS]

00:39:43   macworld and then had my first kid in [TS]

00:39:46   2004 and second 2007 just felt like [TS]

00:39:50   there are fewer people I could share [TS]

00:39:51   those experiences with and my wife is [TS]

00:39:54   not a sci-fi/fantasy person she doesn't [TS]

00:39:56   object to it just never pick your [TS]

00:39:58   interest and we have a lot of stuff that [TS]

00:39:59   we like to watch her engage in terms of [TS]

00:40:01   beauty and calm read some of the same [TS]

00:40:03   books and discuss them but I felt like I [TS]

00:40:05   lost my tribe it and the accomplice help [TS]

00:40:07   me refined that group and not just you [TS]

00:40:10   fellow panelists and friends you know [TS]

00:40:12   number of you and in real life before [TS]

00:40:14   and out and offer my help to meet in [TS]

00:40:16   person and hang with in the future but [TS]

00:40:19   also mark your listeners there's so many [TS]

00:40:21   people I've met who listen to the show [TS]

00:40:23   or don know on Twitter and so you might [TS]

00:40:26   like this show they became listeners and [TS]

00:40:28   that's this wonderful extended group to [TS]

00:40:31   discuss things with that the facebook [TS]

00:40:33   group is now a really lovely extension [TS]

00:40:35   of that as well so i can get into some [TS]

00:40:39   specifics but I feel like exactly what I [TS]

00:40:42   think several people have said this at [TS]

00:40:44   this point but you're John and Dan and [TS]

00:40:45   at least something in particular is that [TS]

00:40:47   like I just feel like i have people who [TS]

00:40:50   if I actually ever said this issue days [TS]

00:40:52   I've people who if I read something or [TS]

00:40:55   I'm thinking about a piece of culture [TS]

00:40:56   that I think it's kinda geeky I know I [TS]

00:40:58   people I can talk to about I know that [TS]

00:41:00   the most obscure thing that I'm [TS]

00:41:03   interested in I know multiple people in [TS]

00:41:06   our slack grouper our panels will know [TS]

00:41:07   it and i was thinking we also have this [TS]

00:41:09   great thing which is we have time [TS]

00:41:10   travelers in our midst [TS]

00:41:12   we're always joking at how serenity you [TS]

00:41:14   know grew up with the way she grew up [TS]

00:41:15   which is she's like 20 years older than [TS]

00:41:18   she is in some ways and I think that's [TS]

00:41:19   true of a lot of us that kind of [TS]

00:41:21   have an age chronological age matched [TS]

00:41:24   David of course is 87 [TS]

00:41:26   yes I'm really in my sixties and a lot [TS]

00:41:29   of us lived a lot of its kind of [TS]

00:41:30   interest in it took us back [TS]

00:41:32   it's true that i'm probably my 16 like [TS]

00:41:37   what's our friends on how much blood [TS]

00:41:38   he's he's drunk today is I'm tender [TS]

00:41:42   linear constructs and you earth people [TS]

00:41:43   get to what's your what's your cultural [TS]

00:41:46   age you know I think what's been great [TS]

00:41:48   too is not just reaching farther into [TS]

00:41:50   the past and being able to you know I i [TS]

00:41:52   talked about this on the foot podcast we [TS]

00:41:54   need to really show episode with them on [TS]

00:41:56   Ashley and and David I and I did that [TS]

00:41:58   and it was kind of hilarious because [TS]

00:42:00   check is talking my dad later he's like [TS]

00:42:02   almost all those two I'm like of course [TS]

00:42:03   you did you were alive then I don't [TS]

00:42:06   listen to them later teenager and a [TS]

00:42:09   bunch of guys their forties talking [TS]

00:42:11   about shows that aired you know for [TS]

00:42:13   years before they were born so you know [TS]

00:42:16   I think I reiterate some other people's [TS]

00:42:18   points just briefly to is I'd kind of [TS]

00:42:20   gotten out of the habit of reading [TS]

00:42:21   comics and definitely think Jason I [TS]

00:42:23   think you are a key influence in that i [TS]

00:42:25   would say the couple episodes help drive [TS]

00:42:28   me towards specific things but I think [TS]

00:42:30   your interest and writing about reading [TS]

00:42:33   comics on ipad actually definitely [TS]

00:42:35   steered me towards trying it out and I [TS]

00:42:37   read I don't need a ton of comics i go [TS]

00:42:39   through binges and all sometimes get [TS]

00:42:41   collections out of the library like the [TS]

00:42:43   giants and man-eating so just I [TS]

00:42:45   literally don't have room in my house to [TS]

00:42:46   put those four volumes so i'll get about [TS]

00:42:48   the library and read them but I [TS]

00:42:50   definitely I'd essentially a banner [TS]

00:42:52   reading comics Doctor Who I was watching [TS]

00:42:54   but having a crew of people who also [TS]

00:42:56   watched it definitely kept me on track [TS]

00:42:58   with that and I always you know be [TS]

00:43:02   reading books sci-fi and fantasy [TS]

00:43:04   throughout my life but I think having [TS]

00:43:06   that focus you know I think John was [TS]

00:43:09   saying is just being able to drive [TS]

00:43:10   towards I gotta get this finished [TS]

00:43:12   because we're doing a book club episode [TS]

00:43:13   or like recently I read the Goblin [TS]

00:43:16   Empire Emperor year so someone's after [TS]

00:43:18   you guys talked about in an episode and [TS]

00:43:20   that was inspired by the discussion look [TS]

00:43:22   I need to go read this book so i don't [TS]

00:43:25   think i have a [TS]

00:43:26   this is help me feel like I'm not [TS]

00:43:29   reading in isolation about watching [TS]

00:43:30   isolation so if i have fields which we [TS]

00:43:33   all do with the places i'm i'm not [TS]

00:43:35   talking my wife she's folding laundry [TS]

00:43:37   more to her great pleasure she goes I [TS]

00:43:39   have a group back together to take my [TS]

00:43:42   opening statements to as well and i will [TS]

00:43:44   say I'm almost convinced by this group [TS]

00:43:46   that i should be should rewatch Babylon [TS]

00:43:48   5 and deep space 9 [TS]

00:43:50   yeah he's with that I'd yeah deep space [TS]

00:43:52   nine elder rewatch with you I think it'd [TS]

00:43:55   be fun to podcast about it but haven't [TS]

00:43:57   listened but you can listen to the audio [TS]

00:43:59   but guide to Babylon 5 with the with [TS]

00:44:01   Erica and ship and shannon which 1i [TS]

00:44:03   magically re watching it while listening [TS]

00:44:05   to their podcast and it's been a lot of [TS]

00:44:06   fun i watched some of that series but [TS]

00:44:08   why was the last thing I'd say it's just [TS]

00:44:11   I don't know it's it's fun to explore [TS]

00:44:13   stuff with friends and it's fun to be in [TS]

00:44:15   a group where not only do I consider i [TS]

00:44:17   mean i know all you guys are friends but [TS]

00:44:19   it's also like it extends that French [TS]

00:44:21   about where I've always felt like being [TS]

00:44:23   comfortable is inclusive and welcoming [TS]

00:44:25   thing we try to welcome people into what [TS]

00:44:27   we're doing and because we want to share [TS]

00:44:29   our excitement and even if we don't like [TS]

00:44:31   something was shuttered its taste but [TS]

00:44:33   we're not trying to tell people you're [TS]

00:44:34   not the geek that you should be you [TS]

00:44:36   don't know and I right we'll have the [TS]

00:44:37   information this is a place where we [TS]

00:44:39   want to really come in and I feel like [TS]

00:44:41   that's one of the great things about [TS]

00:44:42   human part of this i have to say that [TS]

00:44:44   generally speaking I think the people i [TS]

00:44:48   interact with on the uncomfortable [TS]

00:44:49   represent the best faces of fandom the [TS]

00:44:51   the sense that it's inclusive and [TS]

00:44:54   there's not a whole lot of flashing of [TS]

00:44:56   credit the sensible i'm on a first-name [TS]

00:44:58   basis with these creators are these [TS]

00:44:59   actors and there's not a whole lot of [TS]

00:45:01   the whole well I've been reading this [TS]

00:45:03   sense XYZ and if you haven't you're [TS]

00:45:05   obviously not a fan [TS]

00:45:06   there's not a whole lot of flashing a [TS]

00:45:07   bona fides and i really love that about [TS]

00:45:10   the the Finnish culture that the [TS]

00:45:12   incomparable in the aggregate has [TS]

00:45:14   perpetuated by and I think that's one of [TS]

00:45:16   the reasons i love sticking around to is [TS]

00:45:17   because if i want to dive into something [TS]

00:45:20   that I've never ever read or watched [TS]

00:45:21   before somebody will say oh my gosh yeah [TS]

00:45:23   right here here's a pointer here's how [TS]

00:45:25   to get started when you get to this part [TS]

00:45:26   talk to because I want to talk to you [TS]

00:45:28   about it is supposed to you haven't seen [TS]

00:45:29   that yet my god you know it's not like [TS]

00:45:33   we're sitting here trying to criticize [TS]

00:45:35   every [TS]

00:45:36   thing or tear things apart with the rare [TS]

00:45:39   exception [TS]

00:45:40   it's our does not i dunno don't be [TS]

00:45:45   running i love to criticize i'm kinda [TS]

00:45:47   like going to but it's the personal [TS]

00:45:49   interactions [TS]

00:45:50   yeah.the mission here is like enthusiasm [TS]

00:45:52   right yeah yeah love these things [TS]

00:45:55   I think we've been talking about for a [TS]

00:45:56   long time that that's kind of our our [TS]

00:45:58   SOP when it comes to these things is [TS]

00:46:00   there's plenty of places out there to [TS]

00:46:01   talk about things and break them down [TS]

00:46:03   and yes we do that to a certain extent [TS]

00:46:05   heck we've got our own podcast about [TS]

00:46:07   talking up things that most people don't [TS]

00:46:09   like but it's nice it ya hey that's [TS]

00:46:12   great i love that's called you have been [TS]

00:46:13   looking up things podcast circle [TS]

00:46:15   yeah I think there's some british term [TS]

00:46:18   for it but i'm not sure yet but i think [TS]

00:46:21   that is one of the pleasant things all [TS]

00:46:22   that and i think it's interesting it's [TS]

00:46:24   great to feel like you know sometimes [TS]

00:46:26   you feel like we have an infinite number [TS]

00:46:29   of possibilities of things to talk about [TS]

00:46:31   as well just in the in the process of of [TS]

00:46:34   talking about this i was scrolling back [TS]

00:46:35   through our archives and notice that [TS]

00:46:38   episode I think on episode four we [TS]

00:46:41   discussed a you know whether we should [TS]

00:46:42   talk about a upcoming darktower movie [TS]

00:46:45   adaptation and five and a half years [TS]

00:46:47   later the dark tower episode [TS]

00:46:49   oh well that was upcoming it still is [TS]

00:46:53   technically upcoming it's museum but [TS]

00:46:56   it's not uncritical either it's not like [TS]

00:46:58   oh this is great it's a draenei yeah I [TS]

00:47:01   be there are no loyalty test that's that [TS]

00:47:03   that's the thing i like that is there's [TS]

00:47:05   there's no loyalty test where you're not [TS]

00:47:06   a true fan if you don't unquestioningly [TS]

00:47:08   embrace this you know parentheses [TS]

00:47:10   problematic element parentheses you know [TS]

00:47:13   people are allowed to engage with the [TS]

00:47:15   the text as they would say in school and [TS]

00:47:18   you like your one thing i love this but [TS]

00:47:20   I don't want this about it is to love [TS]

00:47:22   this right and it's okay um yeah I think [TS]

00:47:26   I mean I talked about that I know Eric [TS]

00:47:28   and I've talked about that the idea that [TS]

00:47:29   there's no such thing as you're doing it [TS]

00:47:31   wrong when you're a fan like you can be [TS]

00:47:32   a fan of whatever and and there's no [TS]

00:47:34   wrong way to be a fan of something and [TS]

00:47:37   also that and that includes being you [TS]

00:47:39   know getting something out of it by [TS]

00:47:41   looking at it with some with a critical [TS]

00:47:43   eye that that you know that that's [TS]

00:47:46   always been part of my consumption of [TS]

00:47:48   media is [TS]

00:47:49   that you get more out of it when you do [TS]

00:47:50   that and I really love tearing tearing [TS]

00:47:52   apart something not because i'm trying [TS]

00:47:54   to destroy it but because I'm trying to [TS]

00:47:55   understand it what works what doesn't [TS]

00:47:58   work and why i like it why it resonates [TS]

00:48:00   with me and I and if that's not for [TS]

00:48:02   everybody but i think that that's that's [TS]

00:48:04   one of the the like Dan said the SOPs of [TS]

00:48:07   of this is it that's that's that's a [TS]

00:48:10   fake military talk for standard [TS]

00:48:11   operating procedures by the way of this [TS]

00:48:14   podcast is is that exactly which is [TS]

00:48:16   we're coming at it from a position of [TS]

00:48:17   enthusiasm but we we also wanna kinda [TS]

00:48:20   kind of tearing apart and find out like [TS]

00:48:22   what makes it tick and why why it is the [TS]

00:48:24   way it is why we like it or why we you [TS]

00:48:26   know what why some of it bothers us and [TS]

00:48:29   but never in a you know never except for [TS]

00:48:31   maybe rocket surgery and a mean-spirited [TS]

00:48:32   way human and and it's were so many of [TS]

00:48:35   us also i think I you know the fact that [TS]

00:48:37   we came out of a group of people who are [TS]

00:48:39   mainly interested in technology and a [TS]

00:48:42   lot of people in that group there's a [TS]

00:48:43   large crossover with taking things apart [TS]

00:48:45   and seeing how they work and trying to [TS]

00:48:46   figure them out right so i think that's [TS]

00:48:49   that helps us in that way I mean I i was [TS]

00:48:51   thinking about it today thinking about [TS]

00:48:52   the question for tonight and and it [TS]

00:48:56   really you know it's kind of made me a [TS]

00:48:58   better writer too because i'm paying [TS]

00:49:01   more attention and you know trying to [TS]

00:49:04   figure out how it works and how how does [TS]

00:49:06   this why is this structured this way why [TS]

00:49:08   did they make this choice and it's [TS]

00:49:09   making me think a little bit more as i'm [TS]

00:49:12   writing my own stuff which I did not [TS]

00:49:15   expect so I i I'll answered this [TS]

00:49:18   question in the sense of uh there is i [TS]

00:49:21   realized there is a precious little that [TS]

00:49:23   I consume anymore that does not have a [TS]

00:49:26   podcast at the end of it here when it's [TS]

00:49:29   a little bit brought it's a little bit [TS]

00:49:31   problematic and yet at the same time it [TS]

00:49:33   is also that i'm on a kind of a glide [TS]

00:49:35   path it's not as if there are things [TS]

00:49:36   that I am desperate to to consume that I [TS]

00:49:40   don't get too it's just that a lot of it [TS]

00:49:42   ends up leading to somewhere and that's [TS]

00:49:44   how I kind of pic the topics and how I [TS]

00:49:46   can modulate my entertainment [TS]

00:49:48   consumption time sometimes it gets a [TS]

00:49:50   little crazy like one when we did Buffy [TS]

00:49:52   Season one and there were a couple of [TS]

00:49:53   old movies and there were a bunch of [TS]

00:49:55   books and there's like and there's ten [TS]

00:49:57   batman animated series of passwords like [TS]

00:49:59   wow there's a lot here in a very short [TS]

00:50:01   period of time [TS]

00:50:02   you consume which is when we get to be [TS]

00:50:03   panic reading is John put it you know at [TS]

00:50:06   the same time it's it's um I i do have [TS]

00:50:09   those moments I was talking to somebody [TS]

00:50:10   and I'm not sure John was John was out [TS]

00:50:12   here visiting not too long ago and i [TS]

00:50:14   know we were talking and you have those [TS]

00:50:15   moments where you're like this could be [TS]

00:50:17   a podcast but it's not a podcast [TS]

00:50:19   shouldn't be a podcast know what you are [TS]

00:50:21   recording tonight I should i buy car [TS]

00:50:24   just I need to install the microphones [TS]

00:50:25   in the car so I can get all of the all [TS]

00:50:28   of the conversations down but it and [TS]

00:50:30   that's and that's the point is that i do [TS]

00:50:31   have those moments where i watch a TV [TS]

00:50:33   show let's say that i'm not doing a [TS]

00:50:34   podcast about and I think this is a [TS]

00:50:36   little bit weird like I i I'm almost [TS]

00:50:39   always taking notes now right and then [TS]

00:50:43   again it's not a bad way but it has sort [TS]

00:50:46   of like become that if i'm going to [TS]

00:50:49   prioritize something and I want to say [TS]

00:50:51   this really positive like i said earlier [TS]

00:50:53   i'm reading a lot of different comics [TS]

00:50:56   because I've been able to use sort of [TS]

00:50:58   Lisa as a guide to suggesting she has [TS]

00:51:00   this great knowledge of stuff that I [TS]

00:51:01   have no idea about that that's actually [TS]

00:51:03   been really great to expose me to a [TS]

00:51:04   whole bunch of new stuff and back when [TS]

00:51:06   Jason Brian was on and he got a new job [TS]

00:51:08   then moved to Seattle and it's very busy [TS]

00:51:10   and this hasn't been on while but you [TS]

00:51:12   know he would he would suggest things to [TS]

00:51:14   and Lisa would suggest things that and [TS]

00:51:15   that was really great for my comic [TS]

00:51:16   reading the award patrol that we've been [TS]

00:51:19   doing that that was come up a couple of [TS]

00:51:21   times has actually really help because i [TS]

00:51:22   I've never been a fantasy reader I've [TS]

00:51:24   always preferred science fiction fantasy [TS]

00:51:25   and a lot of the novels that not being [TS]

00:51:27   nominated for the hugo and nebula awards [TS]

00:51:29   are fantasy novels and I've really loved [TS]

00:51:31   them and i think i would never have read [TS]

00:51:33   the doc goblin empereur the gene golem [TS]

00:51:35   or a bunch of the the novel's actually [TS]

00:51:38   that are that we will be talking about [TS]

00:51:40   in a couple weeks in are nebulous [TS]

00:51:41   episode that i really liked but are are [TS]

00:51:44   essentially fantasy and I would have the [TS]

00:51:46   absolutely bypass them otherwise so it's [TS]

00:51:49   on that score [TS]

00:51:50   it's also been uh it's also been really [TS]

00:51:53   great to add to my my pile or at least [TS]

00:51:55   guide my reading pile and discover great [TS]

00:51:58   stories and great authors that I [TS]

00:51:59   wouldn't have found on and then on the [TS]

00:52:01   TV friend I mean that's the one of the [TS]

00:52:03   nice things about creating the TV [TS]

00:52:04   podcast is the a lot of the stuff that I [TS]

00:52:07   was gonna watch anyway and i was going [TS]

00:52:08   to think about anyway I get to talk [TS]

00:52:09   about with people so like Monty was [TS]

00:52:12   writing recaps for television without [TS]

00:52:14   pity for years about Game of Thrones [TS]

00:52:16   and when they shut down television [TS]

00:52:17   without pity i said hey mom did you want [TS]

00:52:19   to talk about Game of Thrones on a [TS]

00:52:20   podcast we got to do that and we still [TS]

00:52:22   do that and brian hamilton one week I [TS]

00:52:24   couldn't do it and he's just a like a [TS]

00:52:27   random listener decided to come on and [TS]

00:52:29   now Brian's on a podcast with us and so [TS]

00:52:33   that was great you do so and and [TS]

00:52:34   likewise going to talk about Doctor Who [TS]

00:52:36   I was going to talk about Doctor Who [TS]

00:52:37   with people every week anyway and now [TS]

00:52:39   it's a podcast and that's a lot of fun [TS]

00:52:40   so I'd say that that's another part of [TS]

00:52:42   this is is is transmitting some of the [TS]

00:52:44   stuff that i was going to do anyway and [TS]

00:52:46   be excited about and I turn that into [TS]

00:52:49   something every move we've said this in [TS]

00:52:51   most of the anniversary episodes we've [TS]

00:52:52   done here which is I feel like if I [TS]

00:52:54   didn't have this podcast i would still [TS]

00:52:56   want to call you up but you know all of [TS]

00:52:59   you and talk about stuff that i read [TS]

00:53:01   write something that we all got gas I'm [TS]

00:53:03   not as we might as well because in your [TS]

00:53:06   mind starts to canada he was attentive [TS]

00:53:07   there's this message that onion story [TS]

00:53:10   that just came out it was a click all [TS]

00:53:11   about the woman finds herself [TS]

00:53:12   accidentally engaged in podcast without [TS]

00:53:15   realizing it [TS]

00:53:16   like many of you guys have said like [TS]

00:53:17   this is the kind of stuff i would sit [TS]

00:53:18   around like shoot the breeze with my [TS]

00:53:20   friends you know over the course of the [TS]

00:53:22   last 20 years and I feel like many of [TS]

00:53:26   you even before we started doing the [TS]

00:53:27   podcast we found that we had similar [TS]

00:53:29   interests and we would end up sitting [TS]

00:53:31   around talking about these things you [TS]

00:53:32   know at those occasions going to talk [TS]

00:53:34   about where we you know met up and [TS]

00:53:36   whatever and so it's nice to have this [TS]

00:53:38   as an outlet because yeah we're all [TS]

00:53:41   nerds we all like talking about stuff [TS]

00:53:42   and that that's pretty much all I love [TS]

00:53:45   me some other people in like brian [TS]

00:53:47   hamilton Generosa steel dance term like [TS]

00:53:50   how many Ali not willingly and leaving [TS]

00:53:52   them all these wonderful people we like [TS]

00:53:55   it's like a magnetic field we're just [TS]

00:53:57   pulling more people in turn or become [TS]

00:54:00   our government to our mom and they're [TS]

00:54:02   just early and converted into pure [TS]

00:54:04   energy they start their own podcast and [TS]

00:54:06   soon we have my hundred body and [TS]

00:54:08   comparable is BMO [TS]

00:54:10   so before we break for the for the [TS]

00:54:13   second part of this man the 300th [TS]

00:54:15   episode i wanted to just ask Glenn Glenn [TS]

00:54:17   something mentioned if you if you have [TS]

00:54:19   anything specific that you want to [TS]

00:54:20   highlight like like I i discovered this [TS]

00:54:22   entirely because of the incomparable i'm [TS]

00:54:24   glad i did this would be a fine time to [TS]

00:54:26   do that if you don't that's fine but I'm [TS]

00:54:27   I'm just sort of curious thats the [TS]

00:54:29   that's the final little little part [TS]

00:54:31   Glenn are there are there specific so [TS]

00:54:32   did you cover them did you mention the [TS]

00:54:34   my I'm a few specifics and i'll go [TS]

00:54:35   supercast I promise is a hundred [TS]

00:54:38   thousand four hundred things as a [TS]

00:54:39   hundred thousand kingdoms yeah [TS]

00:54:42   NK jemisin yeah I love her work i've [TS]

00:54:44   only read the first series and I keep me [TS]

00:54:46   go to the next but I everyone later it's [TS]

00:54:48   really good i just read the first book [TS]

00:54:49   of the next series for the nebulas and [TS]

00:54:51   really good really good [TS]

00:54:53   I think this way she's our third series [TS]

00:54:54   of having mr. second yeah so I I've [TS]

00:54:56   reread hundred thousand kingdoms at [TS]

00:54:58   least twice [TS]

00:54:59   china mieville and already been reading [TS]

00:55:01   but i think i read more than because [TS]

00:55:03   this I regret it slightly but his books [TS]

00:55:04   i like so much i like so much yeah are [TS]

00:55:07   friendly and clean like her who wrote a [TS]

00:55:10   column in the genie and how about that [TS]

00:55:13   by the way the power of the podcast that [TS]

00:55:14   a book that that a lot of us really [TS]

00:55:16   loved and I had was my favorite book of [TS]

00:55:18   the year and the writer of that book [TS]

00:55:20   like listen to the podcast and I have [TS]

00:55:22   lunch with her and she's been on a [TS]

00:55:23   couple episodes and how awesome is that [TS]

00:55:25   that's amazing that's unbelievable and [TS]

00:55:27   we made our watches are does yeah [TS]

00:55:29   ohmmeter was our house now she's never [TS]

00:55:32   coming back ever coming background like [TS]

00:55:35   you never have lunch with her nice she's [TS]

00:55:38   tired of Night Circus is another book [TS]

00:55:41   that I discovered through the show I [TS]

00:55:42   think yeah and uh III whenever anybody [TS]

00:55:45   ask for a recommendation like what is [TS]

00:55:46   some good fiction to read i say night [TS]

00:55:48   circus and golden the genie [TS]

00:55:50   I mean those are the two my favorite I [TS]

00:55:52   new books the last decade they're just [TS]

00:55:54   so beautiful and there's certainly a lot [TS]

00:55:56   in common but I would never have found [TS]

00:55:58   out of those for the show [TS]

00:55:59   Leviathan weeks I've now read the whole [TS]

00:56:01   series to date i read the bunnies fancy [TS]

00:56:03   yeah and and also watch the TV show and [TS]

00:56:05   i think i would not have nests I almost [TS]

00:56:07   certainly wouldn't have encountered [TS]

00:56:09   those are great and Joe Walton who have [TS]

00:56:11   not read enough of that I've read for of [TS]

00:56:13   her books now i need to be reading some [TS]

00:56:15   of others as well [TS]

00:56:16   oh and own folly miyazaki like I heard [TS]

00:56:19   about miyazaki for years never felt that [TS]

00:56:20   approachable I wasn't sure what to watch [TS]

00:56:22   for but understand it and through the [TS]

00:56:23   good offices of mr. siracusa and several [TS]

00:56:26   the rest of your I felt like I had an [TS]

00:56:27   entree I've only watched a few movies [TS]

00:56:29   but my kids love them and i will will [TS]

00:56:32   eventually get through them all [TS]

00:56:33   that was another example of us doing a [TS]

00:56:35   whole episode about everything that [TS]

00:56:37   director ever made and then realizing oh [TS]

00:56:39   crap we're going to be here for more [TS]

00:56:41   than 300 episodes maybe I should take [TS]

00:56:42   them one [TS]

00:56:43   I wanted to dance with two people on it [TS]

00:56:45   to thank you yeah that was I think John [TS]

00:56:47   in fact I think that's the only two [TS]

00:56:48   percent certainty uncomfortable no one [TS]

00:56:50   else really want it that's why we need [TS]

00:56:51   Erica to come for something to watch my [TS]

00:56:53   weird yeah [TS]

00:56:54   oh the key upstairs extremely valuable [TS]

00:56:56   because it had listened to it after [TS]

00:56:58   watching the movie twice and I [TS]

00:56:59   understand me better so thank you [TS]

00:57:01   yeah anybody else have things like [TS]

00:57:03   specific things I want to call out if [TS]

00:57:04   you do feel free to share it was [TS]

00:57:06   discovered it was my understanding there [TS]

00:57:08   would be no not on the test [TS]

00:57:10   I can't remember the name of the [TS]

00:57:12   specific fantastic for Minnie's [TS]

00:57:13   miniseries example unstable molecules [TS]

00:57:17   unstable molecules i would not have [TS]

00:57:19   heard about if jason reitman had [TS]

00:57:20   recommended it and it is one of my [TS]

00:57:22   favorite unconventional superhero [TS]

00:57:26   research retellings now [TS]

00:57:28   yeah that was that was really good I you [TS]

00:57:31   know the jason reitman one that I always [TS]

00:57:32   want to mention is the end you can [TS]

00:57:34   listen to the episode there's an episode [TS]

00:57:36   where you can actually hear him say you [TS]

00:57:37   know what's really good is this new [TS]

00:57:39   Hawkeye series yeah and you can hear me [TS]

00:57:41   snort and be like oh please hot guy and [TS]

00:57:44   he's like no no actually like the whole [TS]

00:57:45   first episode is about him like taking [TS]

00:57:48   his dog to the vet and I boy you know he [TS]

00:57:51   was right but I are there was one of the [TS]

00:57:53   best comics in the last 10 years and I [TS]

00:57:55   heard about it because Jason called it [TS]

00:57:57   out during an episode being comfortable [TS]

00:57:59   yeah because that was that when we're [TS]

00:58:01   going through that here's what we're [TS]

00:58:02   doing here is we're looking at the yeah [TS]

00:58:03   yeah that was just you through that [TS]

00:58:05   often but I couldn't believe it but he [TS]

00:58:07   was totally right yeah I'm the enemy [TS]

00:58:09   front [TS]

00:58:10   I I don't think I ever would have gotten [TS]

00:58:11   around to watching ghost in the shell [TS]

00:58:13   stand alone complex without the anime [TS]

00:58:16   episode like it had been on my to watch [TS]

00:58:18   list for so many years and kind of [TS]

00:58:20   written it off so having an excuse to [TS]

00:58:22   watch it and then dig into it was was [TS]

00:58:24   really fun and then you know getting to [TS]

00:58:25   rewatch the movie itself was really cool [TS]

00:58:28   and on the reading side i did read [TS]

00:58:30   Leviathan wakes and what and watch the [TS]

00:58:32   show as well and then also the lies of [TS]

00:58:35   locke lamora which i don't know i had i [TS]

00:58:37   had met Scott Lynch but i never read the [TS]

00:58:39   book and then I heard you guys talking [TS]

00:58:40   about that actually sounds pretty good i [TS]

00:58:45   should mention reading Leviathan wakes [TS]

00:58:46   right now to just because you guys were [TS]

00:58:48   all talking about so much and slack and [TS]

00:58:50   then you talk about the TV show and I [TS]

00:58:51   was like okay I gotta get on this TV [TS]

00:58:53   show and [TS]

00:58:54   have the kind of personality where i'd [TS]

00:58:55   like to read the book first so I can do [TS]

00:58:57   so no I i actually went and bought like [TS]

00:58:59   the box it off amazon because i'm also [TS]

00:59:02   trying to this thing I don't stare at [TS]

00:59:03   screens every night [TS]

00:59:04   yeah that's why I'm staying with this [TS]

00:59:06   giant paper back in my lap a couple [TS]

00:59:08   nights a week trying to read the book [TS]

00:59:09   and it's riveting i like it i really [TS]

00:59:11   like it and I don't think i would have [TS]

00:59:12   bought it and because when i say well [TS]

00:59:14   written by george RR martin's personal [TS]

00:59:16   system [TS]

00:59:17   oh I don't know brandon sanderson gives [TS]

00:59:22   it a ringing endorsement like oh I don't [TS]

00:59:23   know brandon sanderson would never read [TS]

00:59:26   that book if it hadn't been it was [TS]

00:59:27   nominated for Hugo that the reason I'm [TS]

00:59:29   ready yeah i believe i picked it up off [TS]

00:59:31   the shelf at some point looking for [TS]

00:59:33   science fiction to read and see the [TS]

00:59:34   reviews and I'm like you guys you did [TS]

00:59:36   you guys read this is pretty good you're [TS]

00:59:37   like we talked about that like a hundred [TS]

00:59:39   like everybody what happens I'm bad I'm [TS]

00:59:43   bad at that I had many moments recently [TS]

00:59:45   where i was thinking like oh we should [TS]

00:59:47   do an episode about this thing and then [TS]

00:59:49   I go and look like oh we we didnít I [TS]

00:59:51   was just thinking the other day only [TS]

00:59:52   well may we never really did enough to [TS]

00:59:54   300 about indiana jones and the last [TS]

00:59:56   crusade oh my god wait hold on as i was [TS]

00:59:58   going to back to the archives tonight I [TS]

00:59:58   going to back to the archives tonight I [TS]

01:00:00   John and episodic midst of that single [TS]

01:00:02   episode out tonight i find that yeah do [TS]

01:00:05   you mean I what we didn't have sort of a [TS]

01:00:06   foot on the maltese falcon without me [TS]

01:00:07   realizing that have been a recent movie [TS]

01:00:09   club episode like that [TS]

01:00:10   yeah yeah everybody in America too many [TS]

01:00:13   shows guys actually that's another thing [TS]

01:00:14   i want to mention so I'd been talking to [TS]

01:00:16   Phil about doing an old movie thing for [TS]

01:00:19   a long time and one of the things i had [TS]

01:00:21   to i and i know this is ridiculous now [TS]

01:00:22   that being comfortable as a network that [TS]

01:00:24   has like almost 20 podcast on it but [TS]

01:00:26   there are believing about their podcast [TS]

01:00:28   that we don't spin off and rocket [TS]

01:00:29   surgery and only club are two of those [TS]

01:00:31   where where they're actually not new [TS]

01:00:34   podcasts we do have a slight amount of [TS]

01:00:37   restraint and one of the great things [TS]

01:00:39   about the old movie club is that I do [TS]

01:00:41   feel like Phil is my guide to old movies [TS]

01:00:45   because i know nothing about old movies [TS]

01:00:47   i don't i just told don't at all and so [TS]

01:00:49   I really enjoy that once every couple of [TS]

01:00:51   months [TS]

01:00:51   Phil gives me an assignment watch these [TS]

01:00:53   movies and I don't know anything about [TS]

01:00:55   them [TS]

01:00:56   I've almost certainly not ever seen them [TS]

01:00:59   and I know a lot of people who are on [TS]

01:01:00   those episodes have seen them or know [TS]

01:01:01   them by heart or it's their favorite [TS]

01:01:02   movie and then there's me who's like [TS]

01:01:05   monkeys like hey his girl Friday that's [TS]

01:01:07   my favorite movie and I'm like I've [TS]

01:01:09   never something which is crazy because [TS]

01:01:12   you're a reporter it's like it'sit's [TS]

01:01:14   like practically no I feel front page i [TS]

01:01:16   actually saw the front page but i never [TS]

01:01:18   saw his girl Friday so you know but but [TS]

01:01:20   this is this is the thing so that that's [TS]

01:01:22   actually an example of where [TS]

01:01:23   unexpectedly since that's a little bit [TS]

01:01:25   different from what the original charter [TS]

01:01:27   of the incomparable was but I've really [TS]

01:01:29   enjoyed that of like what you know [TS]

01:01:30   somebody who has seen a lot of old [TS]

01:01:32   movies tell me some movies that i [TS]

01:01:33   actually would be interested in seeing [TS]

01:01:35   because there there there are lots of [TS]

01:01:36   them i'm not going to be able to pick [TS]

01:01:38   but if somebody can hold my hand and say [TS]

01:01:40   no no we're gonna watch these we're [TS]

01:01:41   gonna watch these movies these old [TS]

01:01:43   movies and that's been a lot of fun [TS]

01:01:44   that's been a nice thing to make a list [TS]

01:01:46   of all the things that you know to fill [TS]

01:01:48   the glens a real-time homework [TS]

01:01:50   assignment of the things that we've [TS]

01:01:51   discovered because the show and it's [TS]

01:01:53   actually something something list it's [TS]

01:01:54   not like obscure stuff tonight but I [TS]

01:01:56   think about like salt bagels garlic [TS]

01:01:59   bagel house like bialys I mean like like [TS]

01:02:02   like the name of the wind serious like I [TS]

01:02:04   think I would [TS]

01:02:05   on that existed but i definitely want to [TS]

01:02:06   read it unless we're going to do a [TS]

01:02:07   podcast about Doctor Who again knew it [TS]

01:02:09   existed i started watching the 2005 [TS]

01:02:12   Doctor Who reboot but i don't think i [TS]

01:02:13   would have been as religiously watching [TS]

01:02:15   it as I was if I didn't know that there [TS]

01:02:17   was a podcast back and I also hearing a [TS]

01:02:20   bunch of and I did this another doctor [TS]

01:02:22   who podcasts Aria cheated on the [TS]

01:02:23   uncomfortable you see here hearing all [TS]

01:02:25   these people who are super enthusiastic [TS]

01:02:27   about it maybe I should even though the [TS]

01:02:29   show seems kind of silly to maybe I [TS]

01:02:30   should give it more of a shot the Marvel [TS]

01:02:32   movies i'm sure i would have seen some [TS]

01:02:33   of them but i have been as dedicated to [TS]

01:02:35   watching them all and putting them all [TS]

01:02:37   in and one giving agents of shield [TS]

01:02:39   another chance after I bailed on and if [TS]

01:02:40   not for the podcast know the flash the [TS]

01:02:43   arrow set same deal I definitely do not [TS]

01:02:45   watch those if i had heard you know [TS]

01:02:48   Paul's a raving about them for so long [TS]

01:02:49   the expanse that everyone else has [TS]

01:02:51   mentioned that you read the books but [TS]

01:02:52   because everyone has been talking about [TS]

01:02:55   the books and we're also watching it I [TS]

01:02:56   said I get that try even things like [TS]

01:02:58   ready player one which I definitely [TS]

01:02:59   wouldn't have read what they have the [TS]

01:03:01   pockets and now i'm looking forward to [TS]

01:03:02   reading the Goblin emperor of doom [TS]

01:03:04   so that'll be great that's not it that's [TS]

01:03:07   not it now it seems like I think that's [TS]

01:03:10   a nice book in a series 19 sadly yeah we [TS]

01:03:15   remember getting everybody else took the [TS]

01:03:17   ones that I wouldn't mention but I [TS]

01:03:18   because i SAT there thinking my comment [TS]

01:03:20   on what i do and then went through a [TS]

01:03:21   whole list of things I tell ya don't see [TS]

01:03:23   me I probably would not have read that [TS]

01:03:25   otherwise gotta survive winter at that [TS]

01:03:27   expanse yeah I mean I think I've read a [TS]

01:03:31   lot of things I feel like I definitely I [TS]

01:03:33   have watch some old movies thanks to [TS]

01:03:35   feel like about i feel like i'm a bad [TS]

01:03:37   about fifty percent with feel like you [TS]

01:03:39   always pick one movie if you look like [TS]

01:03:41   the two movies it's like one of them [TS]

01:03:42   I've seen and the other one i've never [TS]

01:03:44   heard of so i tried it yet no that's [TS]

01:03:50   great though because he really really [TS]

01:03:51   loves old with like our party fo is is [TS]

01:03:54   ninety-nine percent full right now and i [TS]

01:03:56   guarantee you that close to two eighty [TS]

01:03:59   percent of that content is nothing but [TS]

01:04:01   stuff he's recorded off of turning [TS]

01:04:02   classic movies action that like he goes [TS]

01:04:05   through the listings every few days and [TS]

01:04:07   I'm so jealous like all these things [TS]

01:04:09   like that's not being here don't like [TS]

01:04:12   maybe maybe maybe now is the time for me [TS]

01:04:14   to do a deep dive on energy Robinson and [TS]

01:04:16   so [TS]

01:04:16   more like six in a row and then you know [TS]

01:04:19   that doesn't that is a thing I actually [TS]

01:04:21   lived through recently so yeah I I once [TS]

01:04:26   so I once went of film i went on a [TS]

01:04:29   business trip and on the way back we [TS]

01:04:30   went to we went to a college football [TS]

01:04:32   game in Tennessee was Cal playing [TS]

01:04:33   Tennessee and so it's you know the [TS]

01:04:35   mismatched I play the wacky music from [TS]

01:04:37   The Amazing Race kind of thing but we're [TS]

01:04:39   watching on the TV is a is an old movie [TS]

01:04:43   and it was the most bizarre thing that [TS]

01:04:45   I've ever experienced because it was it [TS]

01:04:47   was sort of like stump the band it was [TS]

01:04:49   it was what movie is this phil because [TS]

01:04:51   you know at home you've got program [TS]

01:04:53   guides and stuff but in the hotel room [TS]

01:04:54   no program guides just the BBS me about [TS]

01:04:57   this and yeah he did it was it was it [TS]

01:05:00   was great because it was like as the [TS]

01:05:02   movie and for things like well it could [TS]

01:05:04   be [TS]

01:05:04   oh that I know that actor and it was [TS]

01:05:06   amazing to see the mind of the old movie [TS]

01:05:08   aficionados kind of unfold where he got [TS]

01:05:10   it he figured it out but he did he'd [TS]

01:05:12   caught maybe do a phone a friend at one [TS]

01:05:14   point he text me to confirm because he [TS]

01:05:17   said no he said I need to look up on [TS]

01:05:19   IMDb good for whatever reason you guys [TS]

01:05:20   couldn't get on to IMDb I guess the [TS]

01:05:22   network was looking for something in the [TS]

01:05:24   internet was bad in Tennessee you know [TS]

01:05:25   what was the movie what was the most [TS]

01:05:27   gosh it was ok i'll remember on [TS]

01:05:30   everybody [TS]

01:05:30   it took place on a train don't know [TS]

01:05:33   their shenanigans and Jean Harlow was [TS]

01:05:36   involved yeah an unfortunate black [TS]

01:05:38   Porter's seen yeah because you know old [TS]

01:05:41   movies [TS]

01:05:42   yeah oh yeah we know that's something [TS]

01:05:44   that oh that's good way [TS]

01:05:46   that's like that but yeah it was one of [TS]

01:05:47   these refills just like shouted like [TS]

01:05:49   texting me all these clothes in them and [TS]

01:05:50   no he called because the internet was so [TS]

01:05:52   bad he called it is like shouting always [TS]

01:05:54   close to be another and Google is it's [TS]

01:05:55   actually a movie club is not just a fun [TS]

01:06:00   little sub-project is within the [TS]

01:06:01   uncomfortable it's a way of life is it [TS]

01:06:03   anyway [TS]

01:06:03   yeah yeah and and i'll throw out the [TS]

01:06:06   rocket surgery thing which we also tried [TS]

01:06:07   to do you know starting the last year [TS]

01:06:09   year-and-a-half that's been a lot of fun [TS]

01:06:10   because they're that that is an [TS]

01:06:12   opportunity [TS]

01:06:12   yeah i mean part of it is yes the [TS]

01:06:14   flophouse is one of my favorite podcast [TS]

01:06:15   and so the idea of going back and [TS]

01:06:16   watching things that are that are that [TS]

01:06:19   are bad or at least critically maligned [TS]

01:06:21   that has been a lot of fun and you know [TS]

01:06:23   I never had seen Zardoz and now I've [TS]

01:06:26   scenes are dots and so I have to and for [TS]

01:06:29   some reason I'm still here [TS]

01:06:30   yeah the flophouse was something I had [TS]

01:06:33   never heard of ya here i started talking [TS]

01:06:35   about it and then I lost an entire [TS]

01:06:38   August about a year-and-a-half ago just [TS]

01:06:41   listening to all the back episodes [TS]

01:06:44   magic tap magic tavern is the latest [TS]

01:06:47   infection right that's what yeah that's [TS]

01:06:48   right that's right and Tony says the [TS]

01:06:50   core is perfectly fine by the back board [TS]

01:06:53   is something else I don't actually bed [TS]

01:06:55   and I would never have a reply would [TS]

01:06:57   never watch Frankenstein Meets The space [TS]

01:06:58   monster or God both of which are kind of [TS]

01:07:00   charming room where they're not good but [TS]

01:07:03   their charm and I'm so old very dumb [TS]

01:07:06   sci-fi movies so yeah very happy [TS]

01:07:08   neil gaiman is the ocean at the end of [TS]

01:07:10   the lane I don't know if I would have [TS]

01:07:12   read that if it hadn't been for an [TS]

01:07:14   episode i mean i was interested it's not [TS]

01:07:16   like I don't read meal but like all [TS]

01:07:19   right it's it's quick i can read that [TS]

01:07:21   and I loved oh my god i'm glad that you [TS]

01:07:25   did that prior to God because it was [TS]

01:07:28   kneel before GOG [TS]

01:07:29   oh my god never i'm glad to get out of [TS]

01:07:36   my microphone from the boom just so i [TS]

01:07:38   can drop it how drunk tonight [TS]

01:07:40   yeah I hope it breaks on the way there [TS]

01:07:43   yeah wow yeah and anything else that we [TS]

01:07:49   had a big dick still going to play with [TS]

01:07:51   fire [TS]

01:07:52   nice to get some the the graphic novel [TS]

01:07:55   of a wrinkle in time I might not have [TS]

01:07:58   gotten that if we had a horse that was [TS]

01:08:00   that was Lisa fuckin put us onto that [TS]

01:08:02   yeah and enemy a lot of comics saga [TS]

01:08:05   don't know that our president after this [TS]

01:08:07   and and i just i bought two collections [TS]

01:08:10   of ms marvel the other day and and I [TS]

01:08:15   blame you guys so yeah it's your outcome [TS]

01:08:18   is but this is a concept huh that was [TS]

01:08:21   implying nothing bitch there's nothing [TS]

01:08:23   to blame anybody about that i think i've [TS]

01:08:25   sent out a couple trades and miss marvel [TS]

01:08:27   to people as gifts this year to its kind [TS]

01:08:29   of between that and scroll girl are you [TS]

01:08:31   guys all reading the unbeatable [TS]

01:08:32   schoolgirl yeah yeah and yeah I will be [TS]

01:08:36   those are like now my go-to guess for [TS]

01:08:37   people who are going through a hard time [TS]

01:08:39   as I send up the the g wilson run on [TS]

01:08:42   this Marvel and then I send them [TS]

01:08:43   schoolgirl I squirrel girl holds the [TS]

01:08:47   award i think it's the only comic that [TS]

01:08:49   my girlfriend started reading over my [TS]

01:08:50   shoulder because i just started reading [TS]

01:08:52   her things out of it and now every time [TS]

01:08:54   she's like I kinda wanna actually like [TS]

01:08:55   peering over my shoulder as i'm on the [TS]

01:08:57   ipad kinda what's going on that panel [TS]

01:08:58   telling the Bob page i I've gotten a lot [TS]

01:09:02   of stuff on comixology in the last two [TS]

01:09:04   years and and I got miss marvel in paper [TS]

01:09:07   it is on my shelf good it's good stuff [TS]

01:09:12   well i'm looking at the looking at the [TS]

01:09:14   past topics in the spreadsheet and it's [TS]

01:09:16   kind of amazing how much we've covered [TS]

01:09:18   it is true that we recalibrated at some [TS]

01:09:20   point and realize that this is going to [TS]

01:09:23   work in it for the long haul so maybe [TS]

01:09:25   one episode about Studio Ghibli is [TS]

01:09:26   probably a bad idea of just readin in 40 [TS]

01:09:32   and just saw yall joss whedon yeah [TS]

01:09:34   that's the death of kickers not just [TS]

01:09:35   that we did all just waiting in one [TS]

01:09:37   episode but it was a 48-minute long [TS]

01:09:39   episode nothing else to say there's one [TS]

01:09:42   thing I should point out here is that a [TS]

01:09:43   lot of us a lot of people on this [TS]

01:09:45   podcast had full-time jobs when you [TS]

01:09:47   started so we figured it wouldn't last [TS]

01:09:48   right here and now you're all natural [TS]

01:09:50   unemployed because this be my job has [TS]

01:09:54   gotten more done i switched jobs i got [TS]

01:09:56   more demanding it's just lisa has picked [TS]

01:09:59   up all of our slack okay so so I want [TS]

01:10:02   one last thing i want to i want to [TS]

01:10:03   mention before we move on which was just [TS]

01:10:06   I I really have enjoyed we we mentioned [TS]

01:10:09   all the people that have sort of come [TS]

01:10:10   into the orbit of not just this podcast [TS]

01:10:13   but of the of the the family and the [TS]

01:10:14   network and and I really i think there [TS]

01:10:18   was one of the best manifestations of [TS]

01:10:20   that was the week that the force awakens [TS]

01:10:22   came out where we ended up doing a [TS]

01:10:24   podcast that week we had three on one [TS]

01:10:27   day that allows it was awake and i [TS]

01:10:30   discovered because if you know [TS]

01:10:31   yeah just saying that if it weren't for [TS]

01:10:35   the fact that was just a wonderful it [TS]

01:10:37   was a wonderful moment to see that [TS]

01:10:38   everybody wanted to talk about it and in [TS]

01:10:40   fact that the enthusiasm was so [TS]

01:10:41   unrestrained that everybody what we need [TS]

01:10:45   to give everybody of space in which they [TS]

01:10:47   could discuss 24 hours force awakens and [TS]

01:10:50   answered on and see what they're talking [TS]

01:10:52   about now [TS]

01:10:53   well I mean for for about a year the [TS]

01:10:56   line in the incomparable calendar just [TS]

01:10:57   said OMG star wars [TS]

01:10:59   I don't really know what it was going to [TS]

01:11:02   be but that's where turned into and that [TS]

01:11:04   was that was pretty great [TS]

01:11:05   so who knows what the next 300 episodes [TS]

01:11:08   will bring oh now i'm very tired just [TS]

01:11:10   even thinking about all the books that [TS]

01:11:11   I'm going to be reading but it will be [TS]

01:11:12   lined and if it hadn't been for the old [TS]

01:11:14   movie club buttons a clown and one [TS]

01:11:18   rumored of my my like default running [TS]

01:11:21   the eggs you know Phil Phil Michaels has [TS]

01:11:24   been telling me the plot of a greatest [TS]

01:11:27   show on earth isn't the greatest show on [TS]

01:11:28   earth as you can for your sleeves and [TS]

01:11:30   doing his Jimmy Stewart is a murderous [TS]

01:11:32   cat clown impression for years and I [TS]

01:11:35   finally saw the movie because of this [TS]

01:11:36   podcast got together because you love [TS]

01:11:40   you can't hold that over me anymore i [TS]

01:11:43   I've seen it now [TS]

01:11:45   alright this is this is where an episode [TS]

01:11:47   would end but instead it's going to [TS]

01:11:49   continue with something completely [TS]

01:11:50   different but before then i am going to [TS]

01:11:52   as if this was the end of the episode [TS]

01:11:54   I'm going to thank my guests for being [TS]

01:11:56   here these are some of the some of the [TS]

01:11:58   most prevalent voices on this podcast in [TS]

01:12:54   still be the new kid on the block [TS]

01:12:55   I look forward to to the anniversary [TS]

01:12:57   episode where I'm you know what we're [TS]

01:12:59   finding more than around for more than [TS]

01:13:01   half of the end so you have to kill the [TS]

01:13:02   people who have been around longer [TS]

01:14:23   going to start though by having this [TS]

01:14:25   panel of people going to introduce them [TS]

01:14:27   and they're going to pick in a draft a [TS]

01:14:29   single round draft and episode of the [TS]

01:14:32   incomparable that's all i really ask [TS]

01:14:34   them to do so pick an episode with the [TS]

01:14:36   first pick it is chip sudderth hi chip [TS]

01:14:40   hi Jason I pick the video game draft [TS]

01:14:43   alright what is just going to come right [TS]

01:14:45   out and pick as part of his introduction [TS]

01:14:47   exactly right that's how we do it crazy [TS]

01:14:49   i know is the reason hands [TS]

01:14:51   it's the crazier than anything could you [TS]

01:14:52   lead off with the crazy right I am I [TS]

01:14:54   think that's too crazy you gotta kind of [TS]

01:14:56   work into the crazy nope that's what [TS]

01:14:58   makes it crazy [TS]

01:14:59   well let's just 300 raising a [TS]

01:15:01   spectacular going to drop off this call [TS]

01:15:03   it is too crazy okay so chip why the [TS]

01:15:06   video game draft what would and you mean [TS]

01:15:08   not the computer game draft the video [TS]

01:15:10   game craft which is side of right [TS]

01:15:14   no no I resent my shows like dollar and [TS]

01:15:16   I picked that I picked the computer game [TS]

01:15:18   draft also so we have said 195 NP crate [TS]

01:15:21   is what you pick [TS]

01:15:22   yes nice because you just like games [TS]

01:15:26   not only do I like games I like games [TS]

01:15:28   for old people and the incomparable the [TS]

01:15:33   it's it's I was awful or episode and I [TS]

01:15:35   feel like it's my tribe man as my tribe [TS]

01:15:37   can ask dr. ball [TS]

01:15:38   yea though I except except except i [TS]

01:15:41   think i remember screaming out at the [TS]

01:15:43   top of my lungs what about radon [TS]

01:15:44   bungling bay [TS]

01:15:46   I can't believe you didn't mention radon [TS]

01:15:47   bungling bay oh oh yeah I was going to [TS]

01:15:49   mention something about battletoads but [TS]

01:15:51   that was that was the other episodes so [TS]

01:15:52   i'm not going through that we can learn [TS]

01:15:54   about that metal toads that's how I [TS]

01:15:57   learned about battletoads was in the [TS]

01:15:58   video game episode i had never heard [TS]

01:16:01   about them and now i understand many [TS]

01:16:02   jokes on the flop house because of [TS]

01:16:04   battletoads because of that I can't [TS]

01:16:05   believe you forgot to mention droll [TS]

01:16:07   I can't believe it either I can't [TS]

01:16:09   believe you forgot to mention Earhart I [TS]

01:16:10   can't believe we forgot to mention all [TS]

01:16:12   the games we didn't mention frankly how [TS]

01:16:14   many of these are you making up right [TS]

01:16:15   now [TS]

01:16:16   no they're all real and I think they're [TS]

01:16:17   all real cuz it steve-o hey its dan more [TS]

01:16:20   and then welcome pick up episode hey [TS]

01:16:23   how's it going [TS]

01:16:25   I'm thinking this episode mainly to stop [TS]

01:16:27   Glenn from picking it which is episode [TS]

01:16:29   22 Stephen Fry does not appear [TS]

01:16:31   Oh it'll take the square Y win you might [TS]

01:16:37   ask why why yeah that really happened [TS]

01:16:39   besides why would you think that why i [TS]

01:16:42   enjoyed that in our CMS it's topic is [TS]

01:16:44   listed as pointless endless rambling [TS]

01:16:46   about that is why I have chosen it in [TS]

01:16:50   part because i was there in that room as [TS]

01:16:53   we talked about so many things including [TS]

01:16:55   repeatedly stephen fry that episode has [TS]

01:16:59   absolutely no point to it and yet I i [TS]

01:17:02   find it is beloved by strangely enough [TS]

01:17:05   people other than us not people who did [TS]

01:17:08   not have to sit in a hot room for that [TS]

01:17:10   hour and change that we were you there [TS]

01:17:13   as the oxygen slowly got sucked out and [TS]

01:17:16   we all went insane impact i believe is [TS]

01:17:19   if I believe there is a fifth panelist [TS]

01:17:22   who is not listed in that episode was [TS]

01:17:24   not might which i think with lex [TS]

01:17:25   friedman that's correct who was just [TS]

01:17:27   standing and yes sitting in the corner [TS]

01:17:29   laughing everything that we were saying [TS]

01:17:31   and yet is not on the podcast yeah well [TS]

01:17:33   they're only before microphone so yeah [TS]

01:17:35   that'll happen everybody yeah he just he [TS]

01:17:38   just consumes our oxygen until we had to [TS]

01:17:40   open the door finally just to refresh [TS]

01:17:41   people's memory because because this has [TS]

01:17:44   been with the the paragraph we discussed [TS]

01:17:48   even fri sherlock holmes James Bond Sean [TS]

01:17:50   Connery scottish accents corporate [TS]

01:17:51   detectives v for vendetta 1984 [TS]

01:17:53   fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury solaris [TS]

01:17:55   the fountain Garfield in media res movie [TS]

01:17:57   concedes doctor who special effects our [TS]

01:17:59   favorite TV shows of all time including [TS]

01:18:01   Buffy max headroom sports night space [TS]

01:18:02   back there putting the rocker files the [TS]

01:18:03   middleman kevin sorbo Gene Roddenberry's [TS]

01:18:05   posthumous over and why Steven Spielberg [TS]

01:18:08   can't make a good TV show also the debut [TS]

01:18:10   of the spoiler quack-quack basically [TS]

01:18:12   every guy i don't even really know why [TS]

01:18:14   why we continue making show has your [TS]

01:18:17   back been several even said it was great [TS]

01:18:20   to get all those topics out-of-the-way [TS]

01:18:21   having talked about them in full so we [TS]

01:18:23   have to revisit never again never again [TS]

01:18:25   I was gonna pick that episode because i [TS]

01:18:27   feel like that was the first episode [TS]

01:18:29   where we really let your freak flag fly [TS]

01:18:31   and and fries and even friday [TS]

01:18:34   so yeah it does not a guy I'm with you [TS]

01:18:37   Dan [TS]

01:18:37   I think that was a that was a landmark [TS]

01:18:39   in a way that's the highlight episode [TS]

01:18:41   right there [TS]

01:18:41   it's amazing they didn't take our [TS]

01:18:42   podcasting license away from us and that [TS]

01:18:44   was just a you know and and that was [TS]

01:18:46   over five years ago now so we're still [TS]

01:18:49   going strong apparently while the wheels [TS]

01:18:51   podcast justice take about two seconds [TS]

01:18:53   sure it'll all work out in the end and [TS]

01:18:55   will be banned Scott McNulty is here [TS]

01:18:58   hi Scott hello can you do you pick a [TS]

01:19:01   favorite episode or an episode I suppose [TS]

01:19:04   it could also be an episode you despise [TS]

01:19:05   but whatever just pick an episode I [TS]

01:19:08   didn't specify beyond that and just get [TS]

01:19:09   on with it man i'm sorry dude every [TS]

01:19:12   episode i'm not on despise yeah I'm way [TS]

01:19:15   to go i'm going to go way back to the [TS]

01:19:20   very first it was number one [TS]

01:19:23   well I have sep leads it's been all [TS]

01:19:25   downhill from there [TS]

01:19:26   this is that was the peak peak in [TS]

01:19:28   comfortable and then in 53 minutes we [TS]

01:19:30   talked about the city of the city the [TS]

01:19:32   windup girl for the wind ship breaker [TS]

01:19:33   the dream of perpetual motion a song of [TS]

01:19:35   ice and fire done [TS]

01:19:36   yeah yeah [TS]

01:19:40   53 minutes it was many more novels that [TS]

01:19:45   we spoke about 53 minutes [TS]

01:19:47   that's a when the the little catchphrase [TS]

01:19:50   this podcast is / was first discussed so [TS]

01:19:53   ironically enough since the podcast is [TS]

01:19:56   still gonna hang out 299 episode [TS]

01:19:58   straight down [TS]

01:20:00   also the catchphrase welcome to the [TS]

01:20:01   incomparable that's right increasingly [TS]

01:20:03   inaccurate this podcast is over and yeah [TS]

01:20:07   so that's that's my pic it was the very [TS]

01:20:09   first episode is a book episode began [TS]

01:20:12   our obsession with Zeppelin's yes [TS]

01:20:14   because there were multiple separate [TS]

01:20:16   Barbra session Zeppelin's may have [TS]

01:20:18   predated that but he enforced it [TS]

01:20:20   certainly explains it yes exactly thats [TS]

01:20:23   that's it it all came out there on the [TS]

01:20:25   table then also I am use that the show [TS]

01:20:27   notes for episode 1 discuss the fact [TS]

01:20:28   that we couldn't pronounce a lot of the [TS]

01:20:30   names which also tells you something [TS]

01:20:32   about how is the early days of our [TS]

01:20:33   podcasting where you know a whole bunch [TS]

01:20:35   of people who don't know how to [TS]

01:20:36   pronounce anything because all they do [TS]

01:20:38   is read get on a podcaster no I don't [TS]

01:20:39   know how to say any of these words [TS]

01:20:41   because I've never heard them out loud [TS]

01:20:43   and those were back in the days we [TS]

01:20:44   actually cared enough to apologize for [TS]

01:20:46   it in the show notes [TS]

01:20:47   yeah now we just roll it was early time [TS]

01:20:50   you're polite that was expected you know [TS]

01:20:52   alright that's a good choice episode 1 [TS]

01:20:54   it's all downhill from there [TS]

01:20:56   Erica and sign is here hello i am here [TS]

01:20:58   hello do you have an episode to pick to [TS]

01:21:01   start us off [TS]

01:21:02   I do this was really hard but I dug deep [TS]

01:21:05   and I decided to go with one that was [TS]

01:21:08   was actually kind of special to me and [TS]

01:21:09   that was episode 198 a critical mass of [TS]

01:21:12   Lady geeks because well i happen to be a [TS]

01:21:14   lady game and watch what yeah it's true [TS]

01:21:19   it's true I'm not lying and it was it [TS]

01:21:22   was really fun to sort of connect with a [TS]

01:21:24   couple of my fellow lady geeks Lisa [TS]

01:21:26   Schmeisser and Brianna Wu and just talk [TS]

01:21:28   about what it was like to grow up as as [TS]

01:21:31   a girl and you know just found out all [TS]

01:21:33   the stuff that i had in common with [TS]

01:21:34   those two and it was it was just really [TS]

01:21:36   fun [TS]

01:21:37   that's that was a good one that was the [TS]

01:21:39   one that you had to sort of talked me [TS]

01:21:40   into hosting because I was like I don't [TS]

01:21:41   want to intrude on this like now you can [TS]

01:21:43   be the host will attend but yeah and I [TS]

01:21:47   thought that work I thought that worked [TS]

01:21:48   very well I was that was a good one [TS]

01:21:50   Steve let's is here oh I see Jason 300 [TS]

01:21:55   episodes we did it we did it we did it [TS]

01:21:59   where we are now we've committed [TS]

01:22:00   although all the crimes now i'm so [TS]

01:22:02   excited 300 crazy episodes man although [TS]

01:22:05   i didn't really come on board until [TS]

01:22:06   episode 9 so the first date really don't [TS]

01:22:09   care you know that's why were idea of [TS]

01:22:15   episode two pick here I do I'm going to [TS]

01:22:18   take off the table episode 58 Grayskull [TS]

01:22:21   Anonymous which was the first instead of [TS]

01:22:23   always on every night cut is my I'm [TS]

01:22:27   coming through this microphone for it [TS]

01:22:29   and not just because it's it's because [TS]

01:22:32   it's a Skeletor thing it's just because [TS]

01:22:34   that I think I you said episode 22 you [TS]

01:22:37   love because it's insane and pointless [TS]

01:22:39   episode 58 has a point and it's still [TS]

01:22:42   insane and thanks perhaps more insane [TS]

01:22:44   for it [TS]

01:22:45   it is of course us drafting TV [TS]

01:22:48   characters which we then work in two [TS]

01:22:50   pitches in the next episode [TS]

01:22:51   it features the first appearance of its [TS]

01:22:55   now [TS]

01:22:56   all you have to do a jewel eated [TS]

01:22:57   apparently the crazy round shows up in [TS]

01:22:59   there somewhere there's a lot of good [TS]

01:23:03   stuff own Skeletor of course appears [TS]

01:23:04   that of course not quite as happy about [TS]

01:23:06   that part of it [TS]

01:23:07   well the two episodes that i was [TS]

01:23:09   planning on picking are both off the [TS]

01:23:10   board because its draft you see because [TS]

01:23:12   i had that on my list to think after 300 [TS]

01:23:16   episodes you would learn not to be the [TS]

01:23:18   nice host and and slide yourself earlier [TS]

01:23:20   in the draft always I I feel instead [TS]

01:23:23   that it's my job to make bad decisions [TS]

01:23:24   like allow you to take some dance the [TS]

01:23:27   robot on the robot drafts do you want [TS]

01:23:30   that when you can have that one if you I [TS]

01:23:31   don't want that 10 I don't want that one [TS]

01:23:33   solid my soiled it pretty much great [TS]

01:23:37   glen fleischmann well I never left i'm [TS]

01:23:41   sorry i just stuck around because you [TS]

01:23:43   just you just uh you don't have to go [TS]

01:23:45   home but you can't stay here but anyway [TS]

01:23:47   you're here so do you have a choice for [TS]

01:23:49   for an uncomfortable episode [TS]

01:23:50   yeah I actually wasn't gonna pick the [TS]

01:23:52   stephen fry up so 22 I had another [TS]

01:23:54   episode of mind and no one's picked and [TS]

01:23:55   Jason this is going to be a touchy [TS]

01:23:57   subject but bear with me [TS]

01:23:58   oh no the real genius ever known is now [TS]

01:24:01   ya episode 33 I drank what the real [TS]

01:24:04   Jesus I'm not picking it because you [TS]

01:24:05   were uncomfortable because I felt bad [TS]

01:24:07   about that but I thought it was actually [TS]

01:24:09   a really great episode we learned how [TS]

01:24:11   hypocritical John circuits can be [TS]

01:24:13   rediscovered rent Caldwell he's a time [TS]

01:24:16   traveler that was my first real inkling [TS]

01:24:18   that she traveled from point in the past [TS]

01:24:20   that she's not our age never ages [TS]

01:24:22   something like that [TS]

01:24:23   she's grown up around the scenes in the [TS]

01:24:24   movie and also learn why we can't have [TS]

01:24:26   nice things I was a good lesson to learn [TS]

01:24:28   early on that we can't have nice things [TS]

01:24:30   but i still love the movie I saw in a [TS]

01:24:33   drive-in [TS]

01:24:34   I think it's a great film I love the [TS]

01:24:36   popcorn seen people quoted all the time [TS]

01:24:38   somebody was just quoting it in passing [TS]

01:24:40   on Twitter just out of nowhere it's [TS]

01:24:43   great film so I Kyle of the episode i [TS]

01:24:45   did not like your dreams being crushed [TS]

01:24:47   i I'm gonna have to take your work for [TS]

01:24:49   Glenn because as I said before I never [TS]

01:24:52   listen to that episode I think it's [TS]

01:24:54   great advice I did I didn't even edited [TS]

01:24:56   greatness edited that since I've [TS]

01:24:57   literally never listen to it since I [TS]

01:24:59   recorded it and [TS]

01:25:00   put of all keep it locked up there still [TS]

01:25:03   is like a whole room in your in-laws [TS]

01:25:05   house you can't enter any more right [TS]

01:25:06   because that's where they don't know [TS]

01:25:08   it's a damaged occurrence in my mom's [TS]

01:25:09   house and what every time I go there and [TS]

01:25:11   i'm doing a podcast I think this is [TS]

01:25:13   where it happened i do sexual with right [TS]

01:25:17   now is the most depressing thing I've [TS]

01:25:18   heard in a long that it is that [TS]

01:25:20   memorialized by a bronze plaque or by [TS]

01:25:23   police tape i I've left a yes I've stuck [TS]

01:25:26   something to the underside of the desk [TS]

01:25:28   isn't as a there's there's just a big [TS]

01:25:31   pile of popped popcorn lying [TS]

01:25:33   Jason is erected an eternal glowing [TS]

01:25:34   laser is memory yeah exactly [TS]

01:25:36   hey you heard an do not go there any [TS]

01:25:38   micro hello hello Jason do you have an [TS]

01:25:42   episode that you would like to choose i [TS]

01:25:44   decided to choose the one that came [TS]

01:25:46   first to mind as opposed to the ones [TS]

01:25:48   that i had actually search for it would [TS]

01:25:50   be 245 incomparable assemble that was [TS]

01:25:53   the one about avengers age of ultron and [TS]

01:25:55   it was because everybody who's in that [TS]

01:25:58   you came out to the northeast and we [TS]

01:26:00   actually did this live weeks we went to [TS]

01:26:02   see the movie together all five of us is [TS]

01:26:05   all six of us and then we went to dan [TS]

01:26:08   morris house and then we we talked about [TS]

01:26:11   it in person [TS]

01:26:12   now the big advantage of this is that [TS]

01:26:13   there was pizza and beer [TS]

01:26:15   uh-huh add this and usually have to [TS]

01:26:18   provide my own pizza and alcohol if i'm [TS]

01:26:20   going to do that on a podcast it was [TS]

01:26:22   nice to have provided for me it's nice [TS]

01:26:23   to have craft services and uncomfortable [TS]

01:26:25   podcast that is the a one-of-a-kind [TS]

01:26:27   everybody went on a movie together and [TS]

01:26:31   then everybody record the podcast right [TS]

01:26:33   after work together that was a yeah that [TS]

01:26:36   is never that has never happened before [TS]

01:26:38   or since [TS]

01:26:39   in sometimes I still walk into that room [TS]

01:26:41   and think this is where that happens if [TS]

01:26:43   you put flags down and you think I [TS]

01:26:45   really need to get this place fumigated [TS]

01:26:46   yeah yeah any Danny there's a picture in [TS]

01:26:50   the show notes without of the idea of [TS]

01:26:52   your living room air and you can't see [TS]

01:26:54   the part of the couch that's propped up [TS]

01:26:56   so that's good i know thats i consider [TS]

01:26:58   that one of the great successes that [TS]

01:26:59   picture [TS]

01:27:00   yeah we didn't we did not catch over [TS]

01:27:02   anything so it's good yeah well done [TS]

01:27:04   yeah i'm just happy I've gotten here [TS]

01:27:05   dance a room like seven times already [TS]

01:27:08   tonight [TS]

01:27:09   we're supposed to be drinking every time [TS]

01:27:11   you said it I'm sorry I think Vicki are [TS]

01:27:14   you saying room [TS]

01:27:15   yeah yes again it's a personal thing we [TS]

01:27:18   had going on anything happens in the [TS]

01:27:20   total party kill a lot you can hear when [TS]

01:27:21   when when certain certain people [TS]

01:27:23   including dance a room and it's [TS]

01:27:25   pronounced more like rum rah that aren't [TS]

01:27:29   that tight that's a sweater on TV crew [TS]

01:27:31   members often Steve will say room Rome [TS]

01:27:34   in the background you can hear when you [TS]

01:27:35   have a total party can't believe me you [TS]

01:27:37   hear that just noticed you haven't [TS]

01:27:38   picked up on that I think I try not to [TS]

01:27:40   listen to steve too much [TS]

01:27:41   oh that's a wise decision jason has no [TS]

01:27:44   choice he edits a lot of these Monty [TS]

01:27:46   ashley is with us [TS]

01:27:47   haimanti hi Jason do you have an episode [TS]

01:27:51   for us [TS]

01:27:51   am I correct that the two times we [TS]

01:27:53   played Trivial Pursuit we're not [TS]

01:27:55   actually in the incomparable feed but [TS]

01:27:57   we're actually in the total party [TS]

01:27:59   killfeed or something like that wasn't [TS]

01:28:01   the yellow it was total party kill [TS]

01:28:02   you're right no no those were those were [TS]

01:28:05   a bonus track and a total party kill I [TS]

01:28:07   think or bonus track on a game show in [TS]

01:28:09   that case I'm gonna have to take episode [TS]

01:28:11   133 get you comfortable radio theatre of [TS]

01:28:15   the era for being the incomparable [TS]

01:28:18   episode with the most preparation by a [TS]

01:28:21   hundred million miles [TS]

01:28:22   yeah seriously I mean it's not hard but [TS]

01:28:27   it really was i had to learn a lot of [TS]

01:28:30   lines this is what these are you away [TS]

01:28:32   from anything [TS]

01:28:33   stay away from the paint exert yeah that [TS]

01:28:37   was that was a lot of fun that was where [TS]

01:28:38   we first interacted with David Lauren we [TS]

01:28:41   haven't been able to get rid of him [TS]

01:28:42   sense yeah and he's not here strangely [TS]

01:28:45   enough weight yeah wait a minute he's [TS]

01:28:46   not here i did that's the weirdest thing [TS]

01:28:48   i didn't even register because just [TS]

01:28:50   always he's always here yeah I don't [TS]

01:28:52   know if you say his name a third time [TS]

01:28:53   will show up Dave alone no Herbert radio [TS]

01:28:56   show it had a timmy preston and the fog [TS]

01:28:58   and any legal detective and two-fisted [TS]

01:29:00   tales of Tesla and slim Skinner and the [TS]

01:29:03   cowhands of the range with no they [TS]

01:29:06   should they should come back right [TS]

01:29:07   they really well no they probably should [TS]

01:29:09   that was those those that have you of [TS]

01:29:11   the announcer and those nodules on my [TS]

01:29:13   vocal cords yes that's right the first [TS]

01:29:14   time in David's words made Andy ruin his [TS]

01:29:18   place so [TS]

01:29:20   hold on has David Lord just entered the [TS]

01:29:22   room now yeah he was here all along [TS]

01:29:24   except he wasn't it's david Laura are [TS]

01:29:26   you recording lots [TS]

01:29:28   wow you it really does work if they say [TS]

01:29:30   his name three times i'm a little [TS]

01:29:31   writing right now those reasons we only [TS]

01:29:33   said it twice though David Laura hello [TS]

01:29:35   and begin the devil here you are what [TS]

01:29:38   what's your episode that you'd like to [TS]

01:29:40   choose for us of favorite episodes in [TS]

01:29:42   the past I again just you have to use an [TS]

01:29:45   episode I didn't specify although mostly [TS]

01:29:46   I think people have been shoot to [TS]

01:29:48   choosing a favorite episodes I i did all [TS]

01:29:50   the homework of you know episode you [TS]

01:29:53   want to revisit episodes you love that [TS]

01:29:54   you know all that [TS]

01:29:55   yeah episodes I loved that would be the [TS]

01:29:58   similar to Monty's the Christmas [TS]

01:30:01   Spectacular [TS]

01:30:02   ah which episode number is that 174 I've [TS]

01:30:07   done your work for you I 74 of course [TS]

01:30:10   number one before everybody knows [TS]

01:30:12   there's been spectacular aerial all the [TS]

01:30:15   other big radio episode on the exact [TS]

01:30:17   lead alcohol I mean human human [TS]

01:30:21   centipede sure but right now is on my [TS]

01:30:24   list [TS]

01:30:25   yeah yeah sure thank you that was [TS]

01:30:28   service basically my second choice [TS]

01:30:29   it has my favorite moment of the in [TS]

01:30:31   copper yeah but we went for whole [TS]

01:30:34   episode will be the the incomparable [TS]

01:30:36   radio Christmas Spectacular very nice as [TS]

01:30:38   good one [TS]

01:30:39   very nice ok so now it's my turn to pick [TS]

01:30:41   I get to pick the last one of this round [TS]

01:30:42   and then we'll move on to other things [TS]

01:30:43   and and my choice is actually episode 46 [TS]

01:30:46   which is our first Star Wars movie [TS]

01:30:49   episode I like my coffee like my evil [TS]

01:30:51   Sith Lords I have fond memories of this [TS]

01:30:53   the first time that we broke down star [TS]

01:30:55   wars which turned out in detail of like [TS]

01:30:58   a couple of hours we broke that into two [TS]

01:30:59   episodes that would become a trend and [TS]

01:31:02   it was such a long session that I also [TS]

01:31:05   have a fond memory of in the middle of [TS]

01:31:06   it at one point we we could actually on [TS]

01:31:08   the recording [TS]

01:31:09   great you can hear Greg moss whispering [TS]

01:31:12   to his wife who is asking if he was [TS]

01:31:14   still on the stupid podcast his [TS]

01:31:16   apologize my house it's still going [TS]

01:31:19   I'm so sorry and yeah I put that in the [TS]

01:31:23   episode was that like a bumper because [TS]

01:31:25   it just made me laugh that he's not even [TS]

01:31:27   apology to his wife he just like I'm [TS]

01:31:29   sorry I'm on this podcast [TS]

01:31:32   yeah he had a right after remind himself [TS]

01:31:35   to get off a podcast that happen [TS]

01:31:37   that's true it's true alright well there [TS]

01:31:41   you go there's a there's a I really [TS]

01:31:43   deeply carefully curated list of [TS]

01:31:45   episodes that is beyond those yeah we [TS]

01:31:48   did [TS]

01:31:49   well how about how about this i'm going [TS]

01:31:50   to i'm going to play a clip from our [TS]

01:31:53   friend listener Nathan listen Nathan hi [TS]

01:31:55   it's listen Nathan my question is what [TS]

01:31:59   past show topics would you most like to [TS]

01:32:01   revisit in which you want to go back [TS]

01:32:03   because you have more to say or because [TS]

01:32:04   your opinions on it have changed [TS]

01:32:06   alright so topics you would like to [TS]

01:32:08   revisit and why is the question from mr. [TS]

01:32:12   Nathan anybody have any answers for that [TS]

01:32:16   we are not only do I got ya [TS]

01:32:18   oh my god what am I I'd like to go back [TS]

01:32:20   in time and not say they must be Giants [TS]

01:32:23   you cannot do that glad I picked you [TS]

01:32:29   cannot I've got one haha i'd like to go [TS]

01:32:31   back to episode 75 my gaze boxes full of [TS]

01:32:34   men here's where we talked about [TS]

01:32:36   infocomm games because I just like [TS]

01:32:38   talking about infocomm games like he [TS]

01:32:39   goes for several more hours on that [TS]

01:32:41   subject we can do i do a little more [TS]

01:32:43   memorable time we just like a general [TS]

01:32:45   adventurers kind of episode throw some [TS]

01:32:49   point clicks in there [TS]

01:32:50   sure i would really like to go back to [TS]

01:32:52   episode 31 supernatural and actually [TS]

01:32:55   talking about you text the one topic [TS]

01:33:01   that's never been allowed i was thinking [TS]

01:33:02   i would like to have actually had done a [TS]

01:33:04   proper amount of preparation for that so [TS]

01:33:06   I sounded like I knew what I was talking [TS]

01:33:08   about episode it's been that there's a [TS]

01:33:11   lot of episodes that's probably true up [TS]

01:33:13   so late and it's been five years and [TS]

01:33:14   supernatural is still on the air [TS]

01:33:16   I know right still running so you can [TS]

01:33:19   talk about all new next to Dan yeah i'm [TS]

01:33:21   still watching it's just me I guess the [TS]

01:33:23   guy in the morning but I got one Jason [TS]

01:33:26   yep in in episode 49 and 50 we talked a [TS]

01:33:29   bit about the works of pixar I think we [TS]

01:33:31   should go back and revisit those films [TS]

01:33:33   in some more detail maybe that's a good [TS]

01:33:34   idea [TS]

01:33:35   go through each of them like one at a [TS]

01:33:36   time yeah I feel like like just like the [TS]

01:33:38   miyazaki episode we should probably take [TS]

01:33:40   those one of the time straight and Zakia [TS]

01:33:42   taking an entire filmmakers career and [TS]

01:33:45   write a fact [TS]

01:33:46   the individual films they're they're [TS]

01:33:47   rich enough that they probably bear [TS]

01:33:49   further scrutiny on their own so that [TS]

01:33:51   just wouldn't be so too I feel sort of [TS]

01:33:53   like that was an interesting idea [TS]

01:33:54   you know what else I actually really [TS]

01:33:56   liked a couple of those does to game [TS]

01:33:57   show episodes that we did what if we did [TS]

01:33:59   more of those but we play just one [TS]

01:34:01   longer game per episode you think that [TS]

01:34:04   would work [TS]

01:34:04   no no heart heart heart no fast in that [TS]

01:34:09   case I think maybe it's time for a fresh [TS]

01:34:10   look at Zardoz this podcast is over too [TS]

01:34:17   many episodes as the force awakens [TS]

01:34:19   trailer did alright where the East Coast [TS]

01:34:21   Guard oz the uk's or does the west coast [TS]

01:34:24   are yeah i think that star wars needs [TS]

01:34:29   more attention yeah I english was pretty [TS]

01:34:32   good i don't know I i would like to [TS]

01:34:35   correct episode 232 learning to love [TS]

01:34:39   Heidi too because i was sick that we can [TS]

01:34:42   i was going to be on and I'll of [TS]

01:34:44   Groundhog Day so can we just do the [TS]

01:34:46   whole episode again [TS]

01:34:47   well be fitting if we did wouldn't it [TS]

01:34:48   yeah it would make sense because i know [TS]

01:34:50   have to be exactly the same though David [TS]

01:34:52   that's the problem yeah i would like to [TS]

01:34:54   welcome to episode 234 the only way out [TS]

01:34:57   is in and unwatched now what's the [TS]

01:34:59   choreo haha totally simple as we've been [TS]

01:35:03   one single tier right now somewhere [TS]

01:35:06   no she's cursing all of us I'd like to [TS]

01:35:08   go back to the summer superhero [TS]

01:35:09   spectacular and not happen [TS]

01:35:12   let's take that a step further chip do [TS]

01:35:17   all of that [TS]

01:35:19   yeah that was that was not my that's not [TS]

01:35:21   my favorite episode only because it was [TS]

01:35:23   my fault i thought we're going to [TS]

01:35:24   seriously like pick out I was we were it [TS]

01:35:28   was pitched to me as your it's like [TS]

01:35:30   you're a little girl in your attorney up [TS]

01:35:33   you're in a court of law you're [TS]

01:35:34   defending your pick [TS]

01:35:35   yep and so I made I made when I thought [TS]

01:35:37   were really good Perry Mason style [TS]

01:35:39   arguments for everyone that I was aside [TS]

01:35:41   only to find out that well there's both [TS]

01:35:43   of l and it are in her name so she [TS]

01:35:45   chooses what I i would actually realizes [TS]

01:35:49   cool really likes this biggest problem [TS]

01:35:51   with the incomparable judicial system is [TS]

01:35:53   you never know what judge you're going [TS]

01:35:54   to get [TS]

01:35:54   the judging those episode was entirely [TS]

01:35:57   fairly i would like to go back and not [TS]

01:35:59   screw up my spider-man stickers if [TS]

01:36:02   that's like--you I i would like to go [TS]

01:36:04   back to do episode 16 if you love an [TS]

01:36:07   Autobot set free which was about beloved [TS]

01:36:09   Christmas gifts which I was not on [TS]

01:36:11   because the episode where we ruined [TS]

01:36:13   Christmas are my favorites and though I [TS]

01:36:15   have not actually listen to that episode [TS]

01:36:17   i'm fairly certain that without my [TS]

01:36:18   presence Christmas was not ruined as [TS]

01:36:20   effectively as it could be there i think [TS]

01:36:22   that's accurate although that's a really [TS]

01:36:23   great episode because it led and tells [TS]

01:36:25   the saddest story of all which is how [TS]

01:36:27   you know the organs former I perhaps I [TS]

01:36:31   should tell it again if I may be serious [TS]

01:36:34   for a moment [TS]

01:36:35   oh yeah with regards to this question my [TS]

01:36:36   job i would say that i would be [TS]

01:36:38   interested in TV draft or film festival [TS]

01:36:42   the next generation where some other [TS]

01:36:44   people get the opportunity to take a [TS]

01:36:46   take a swing at those because I think [TS]

01:36:47   those are both very interesting episodes [TS]

01:36:49   and produce good content and there's a [TS]

01:36:53   lot of new people on board and i think [TS]

01:36:54   it would be interesting how they [TS]

01:36:55   approach the same sort of thing [TS]

01:36:56   actually that's a that's really cool [TS]

01:36:57   idea see we have ideas here it's not [TS]

01:37:00   just a ideas we got him we got him we [TS]

01:37:02   got some ideas [TS]

01:37:03   alright uh thank you to listen Nathan [TS]

01:37:06   for that I i I'm not sure I think that [TS]

01:37:09   might be famous let's listen Nathan char [TS]

01:37:11   Nathan Roberts things involving Skeletor [TS]

01:37:14   actually because it all comes back with [TS]

01:37:16   me and well I wish you'd mentioned that [TS]

01:37:18   before I actually spend time answering [TS]

01:37:19   that question [TS]

01:37:20   that's right obviously unhinged that [TS]

01:37:23   would someone should let him know that [TS]

01:37:24   we mentioned we mentioned scales on the [TS]

01:37:26   subject [TS]

01:37:27   don't encourage her Nathan because it is [TS]

01:37:30   that that list Nathan on here is one of [TS]

01:37:33   actually going to be several questions [TS]

01:37:35   from listeners dan not Dan while [TS]

01:37:37   listening down your areas [TS]

01:37:39   what is it like to suggest a topic for [TS]

01:37:42   an episode and then not end up on the [TS]

01:37:44   panel for that episodes recorded not [TS]

01:37:46   shouting your opinions into the air will [TS]

01:37:50   do in your dishes were working in the [TS]

01:37:52   yard because if the answer is yes then [TS]

01:37:56   you know exactly how we listeners feel [TS]

01:37:58   on a regular basis [TS]

01:37:59   yeah that is the second definition of [TS]

01:38:01   planning by the way that he would you [TS]

01:38:03   suggest an episode and then you're not [TS]

01:38:04   on that episode [TS]

01:38:05   incidentally that guy doesn't really [TS]

01:38:06   great Lex Friedman impression are you [TS]

01:38:11   sure it's not really like it's like he's [TS]

01:38:12   using wax freeze a listener dad I don't [TS]

01:38:15   think he likes would lie about it is [TS]

01:38:16   listener know what did Lex would never [TS]

01:38:19   propose a dan I would be to take this [TS]

01:38:22   that it's been neat him so it has [TS]

01:38:24   anybody experienced that other than [TS]

01:38:26   blending idea of like hey I've got a [TS]

01:38:27   great idea for an episode and Joe steel [TS]

01:38:29   Lisa's new york's wait a minute there [TS]

01:38:31   have been episodes i really wanted to be [TS]

01:38:33   on that I then couldn't be on and I [TS]

01:38:36   myself yelling at those because it's [TS]

01:38:38   almost like trying to get but it's like [TS]

01:38:40   go to those limited edition posters [TS]

01:38:42   where they tweet out the link and then [TS]

01:38:44   in 28 seconds they're all gone [TS]

01:38:46   that's like I'll check my email look [TS]

01:38:47   it's just posted a new episode of 12 [TS]

01:38:49   minutes ago I'd really like to do that [TS]

01:38:50   oh they're already eleven people signed [TS]

01:38:52   up okay for me it was usually I would [TS]

01:38:54   just I would just knock myself out of [TS]

01:38:56   the running real account i don't have [TS]

01:38:57   enough to say about that topic so i [TS]

01:38:59   won't be on it and then I find myself [TS]

01:39:00   washing the dishes and yelling at my [TS]

01:39:02   ipod see why was I not just like lizard [TS]

01:39:04   and you exactly that it was a bad day [TS]

01:39:08   for us in the separate household when [TS]

01:39:10   Shannon got on the Batman adventures [TS]

01:39:12   episode not given time [TS]

01:39:16   how could you choose that episode how [TS]

01:39:20   many second-level blessings have there [TS]

01:39:21   been I know the TV draft was was a [TS]

01:39:23   blending Joe rosenstiel it did how many [TS]

01:39:26   he's pleased that 120 well he suggests [TS]

01:39:28   rocket surgery and then wasn't on the [TS]

01:39:30   first first one the second one but all [TS]

01:39:32   that but I don't happen with Glenn at [TS]

01:39:33   least twice where he announced like he [TS]

01:39:35   was like hey I've got this create crazy [TS]

01:39:37   idea for an episode but I think it could [TS]

01:39:39   work and we set it up and then he's like [TS]

01:39:40   a co I can't go i came up with the idea [TS]

01:39:43   of drafts and I wasn't the first draft [TS]

01:39:44   right now you did not invent right when [TS]

01:39:47   I could drive you know that some serious [TS]

01:39:50   cleaning but when windows house in a guy [TS]

01:39:52   one of the dogsitter yeah I had been a [TS]

01:39:55   draft i know we've buffalo and well [TS]

01:39:58   that's a anyway yeah and we view bank [TS]

01:40:00   lending even they'll never get it [TS]

01:40:03   eubank please committed to memory did [TS]

01:40:06   that's how i personally don't have to [TS]

01:40:08   remember that that's not part of the [TS]

01:40:09   incomparably here here this is a good [TS]

01:40:11   one from mr. Martin [TS]

01:40:12   cinematic this is I'm i'm curious what [TS]

01:40:14   all of you have to say about this idea [TS]

01:40:15   everyone this is mark segal I've been [TS]

01:40:18   listening to the show since just before [TS]

01:40:19   episode 100 and I'm huge fan of the show [TS]

01:40:22   and these kind of men episodes so I'm [TS]

01:40:25   really happy to be a part of one but [TS]

01:40:26   wasn't for my question for a random [TS]

01:40:28   Capital Times list is if you could start [TS]

01:40:31   a new show on the incomparable network [TS]

01:40:33   but you didn't actually have to do any [TS]

01:40:35   of the work to make it happen [TS]

01:40:36   well with it will be about so haha hey i [TS]

01:40:40   love that you in there witches all you [TS]

01:40:42   have to do to go back to the second [TS]

01:40:43   definition of letting you get to have an [TS]

01:40:45   idea and then everybody else has to do [TS]

01:40:47   it and you don't wait I actually know [TS]

01:40:49   mark segal too so just be getting some [TS]

01:40:51   number one [TS]

01:40:51   sure I'm sure you do crazy things to my [TS]

01:40:54   intern will be a podcast called building [TS]

01:40:56   character with Monty Ashley where we [TS]

01:40:58   have a different guests each week and we [TS]

01:41:00   build a character in a different RPG [TS]

01:41:02   system so some weeks you just hear a lot [TS]

01:41:03   of rolling dice and we say what looks [TS]

01:41:06   like your superhero has a korean-style [TS]

01:41:08   hair and the ability to travel between [TS]

01:41:10   dimensions that would be the marvels [TS]

01:41:12   superheroes game using the ultimate [TS]

01:41:15   power book is great and then other times [TS]

01:41:17   it would take four hours because we'd be [TS]

01:41:19   playing champions and we have to spend [TS]

01:41:21   forever figuring out where to spend each [TS]

01:41:24   tiny amount of points in every step i [TS]

01:41:27   kinda want to listen to show now mama [TS]

01:41:29   teach you [TS]

01:41:30   that's it that's like a real ID I've got [TS]

01:41:32   all the concept i just don't want to do [TS]

01:41:33   it [TS]

01:41:34   yeah exactly [TS]

01:41:37   also podcast 60 on the podcast strip my [TS]

01:41:40   episode by episode crawl through studio [TS]

01:41:42   60 on the Sunset Strip knows our lives [TS]

01:41:45   by guess mine would be I just want a [TS]

01:41:48   weekly podcast that is called what the [TS]

01:41:50   hell is going on with Marvel and then a [TS]

01:41:52   better companion podcast what the hell [TS]

01:41:54   is going on with DC where doesn't [TS]

01:41:56   attempt to editorialize it will just [TS]

01:41:58   simply say okay if you have been [TS]

01:42:00   following iron man first of all he now [TS]

01:42:02   has a dog and the dog actually he [TS]

01:42:04   doesn't know this but it has the soul of [TS]

01:42:06   a different iron man that existed in the [TS]

01:42:08   eighteen hundreds from a different world [TS]

01:42:10   this different world was created by [TS]

01:42:13   conglomeration of read Richards's in [TS]

01:42:15   early as if I just want to be able to [TS]

01:42:17   have a reference so if i skip one week [TS]

01:42:19   of Marvel or DC I understand the [TS]

01:42:22   convoluted and unfollow below [TS]

01:42:24   story that's going on I think my success [TS]

01:42:27   might be able to do that one for you [TS]

01:42:28   actually want to show a lot like Andy's [TS]

01:42:30   accepts delivered like it's like the NPR [TS]

01:42:32   news bulletin except about things that [TS]

01:42:34   aren't real same delivery [TS]

01:42:36   yeah exactly exactly meanwhile in [TS]

01:42:39   wauconda magically everything has been [TS]

01:42:42   restored to the way it was before the [TS]

01:42:43   more flood the entire city however Black [TS]

01:42:47   Panther is now Lord of the Dead let's [TS]

01:42:50   turn to Student News in Metropolis it's [TS]

01:42:52   right where Superman is now a jerk any [TS]

01:42:58   other any other shows with no [TS]

01:42:59   consequences that you'd like to i just [TS]

01:43:01   want a new TV podcast for every single [TS]

01:43:04   show that I am regularly watching and I [TS]

01:43:07   want to be on the episodes but I don't [TS]

01:43:09   want to do any of the work to schedule a [TS]

01:43:10   tour actually have to spend the time to [TS]

01:43:12   a quad bike that's just want to be able [TS]

01:43:14   to talk to somebody about whatever I [TS]

01:43:15   happened to be watching that is some [TS]

01:43:17   good wishing because Jason had the exact [TS]

01:43:20   same route which are the monkeys but he [TS]

01:43:21   forgot to add but I don't want to have [TS]

01:43:23   to have to do any of the scheduling or [TS]

01:43:25   any of the editing or anything actually [TS]

01:43:26   got that four finger monkeys parts come [TS]

01:43:28   in really handy i was going to say to [TS]

01:43:30   listen mark that's that's my that's my [TS]

01:43:32   my issue is I have no idea what it would [TS]

01:43:34   be like to have a podcast where you [TS]

01:43:35   could just start a new show and didn't [TS]

01:43:37   have to do the work because thats is [TS]

01:43:40   that hasn't happened anyway uh home and [TS]

01:43:43   I'd love to do one called off the rails [TS]

01:43:45   it would be a different things every [TS]

01:43:47   time basically the goal of it is just to [TS]

01:43:49   see how long it takes to reduce Jason to [TS]

01:43:51   tears [TS]

01:43:52   haha we're already doing that show [TS]

01:43:55   that's a lot more work than it sounds [TS]

01:44:00   like to it's true [TS]

01:44:01   how about incomparable interruptus where [TS]

01:44:02   it's just us interrupting each other but [TS]

01:44:04   i'll show you ready to die myself over [TS]

01:44:07   and i'm still all four I guess we call [TS]

01:44:09   pint cast or flight cast always have to [TS]

01:44:11   be right yeah yeah yeah that's that's [TS]

01:44:13   the one where we're a microbrewery [TS]

01:44:15   somewhere in the country pays us [TS]

01:44:18   well I can actually pay for our time [TS]

01:44:20   this week mk4 entities they set us up in [TS]

01:44:23   there microbrewery with some beer and we [TS]

01:44:26   sit and we drink their beer and we [TS]

01:44:27   talked about maybe their beer i don't [TS]

01:44:29   know maybe not maybe we just talked [TS]

01:44:30   about some great bring that will bring [TS]

01:44:31   the microphones we got that covered yeah [TS]

01:44:34   yeah yeah don't bring the show you just [TS]

01:44:36   pay for it [TS]

01:44:37   no I could learn to like beer for [TS]

01:44:39   showing that i am more than willing to [TS]

01:44:41   do the work of drinking the beer while [TS]

01:44:44   drawing or the real hero here you do [TS]

01:44:45   that already doing that it's the dealing [TS]

01:44:48   with microbrewery owners to convince [TS]

01:44:49   them to pay for a bunch of plane tickets [TS]

01:44:51   for some idiots to come talk in their [TS]

01:44:52   establishment that's more work than I [TS]

01:44:54   willing to put out the forecast is is a [TS]

01:44:57   is is definitely an idea one day one day [TS]

01:45:00   somehow so listeners if you know [TS]

01:45:02   somebody who owns a microbrewery and has [TS]

01:45:04   very bad marketing ideas review your [TS]

01:45:07   cell phone my Camry and have a lot of [TS]

01:45:09   money you like to throw away money on [TS]

01:45:11   ill-conceived marketing concepts that [TS]

01:45:15   will bring him no new no new customers [TS]

01:45:18   of any kind i I'm kind of intrigued by [TS]

01:45:20   the idea of sports podcast but again i [TS]

01:45:22   am not going to do the work so it's not [TS]

01:45:24   gonna happen [TS]

01:45:25   it's quite simple this is not gonna [TS]

01:45:27   happen all of my ideas for podcasts are [TS]

01:45:29   just convoluted means of getting free [TS]

01:45:30   crap so dad that's that's what these are [TS]

01:45:36   right that's what we're doing right now [TS]

01:45:37   no I got a girl is a free swag coming [TS]

01:45:40   your way Dave yeah right around episode [TS]

01:45:42   four hundred that's what it should start [TS]

01:45:44   flowing and leather couch there's lots [TS]

01:45:47   of crap i know i know he told you that [TS]

01:45:49   after episode 100 and a four-episode 250 [TS]

01:45:53   and now here we are 310 you again hold [TS]

01:45:56   out for that free swag but seriously [TS]

01:45:58   it's coming it's going to be able to [TS]

01:46:00   sure regrets we've had a few and [TS]

01:46:04   listener dan always back with a question [TS]

01:46:06   about of our graduates think it is the [TS]

01:46:09   same listener dan yes it is the same [TS]

01:46:11   blistered I said he has more than one [TS]

01:46:13   question for us would you describe a [TS]

01:46:15   time when you volunteered for a panel [TS]

01:46:18   with excitement only to realize you'd [TS]

01:46:20   committed to something far more painful [TS]

01:46:23   than you ever expected every episode you [TS]

01:46:26   can see if your answer is about [TS]

01:46:27   something other than the summer [TS]

01:46:29   superhero spectacle [TS]

01:46:31   of which by the way was a blast to [TS]

01:46:35   listen to i don't think i've ever heard [TS]

01:46:37   as many panelists half in the bag in a [TS]

01:46:40   single episode half i'll have you know [TS]

01:46:42   Phil Michaels was entirely in the bag [TS]

01:46:44   for that so thank you sir [TS]

01:46:45   I think it sounds like a job for simple [TS]

01:46:48   question please describe a time but I [TS]

01:46:51   can describe it in one word [TS]

01:46:53   Zardoz thank you sorry i was great it [TS]

01:46:58   was great to have you there Erica that's [TS]

01:47:01   when Glenn had a really bad idea and he [TS]

01:47:03   sucked a bunch of people in but it was [TS]

01:47:04   what you're looking out only that was [TS]

01:47:07   the one time i have bad ideas to you [TS]

01:47:08   didn't really wasn't your idea but then [TS]

01:47:11   you're the one who roped in a bunch of [TS]

01:47:12   extra people to watch us are gonna sit [TS]

01:47:14   and suffer without I think about it's [TS]

01:47:16   our dogs might be my second degree [TS]

01:47:18   letting likes I might have been one of [TS]

01:47:19   the people pushing for that I wasn't [TS]

01:47:21   that episode [TS]

01:47:22   yeah thanks Monty there was that time I [TS]

01:47:24   let all of you into my apartment [TS]

01:47:26   yeah don't understand you're still [TS]

01:47:29   hosing off the walls right [TS]

01:47:30   did he ever find that open jar band-aids [TS]

01:47:33   I hated my writing system or did you [TS]

01:47:35   just like think it's all the girls to [TS]

01:47:37   keep the leftover beard and I don't know [TS]

01:47:39   what Andrew did you have no idea how [TS]

01:47:42   much left over beers in my fridge dating [TS]

01:47:44   back to what yon here [TS]

01:47:46   oh dear I i would say actually for me [TS]

01:47:48   the one that episode I regretted the [TS]

01:47:50   ones where is it where there's a large [TS]

01:47:53   amount of reading or viewing that we [TS]

01:47:56   need to do because I i have that moment [TS]

01:47:58   where I'm like oh I've got to watch two [TS]

01:48:00   old movies to today because we have a [TS]

01:48:03   podcast tomorrow or I need to watch 10 [TS]

01:48:06   episodes of batman the animated series [TS]

01:48:07   or I need to play a 40-hour game that I [TS]

01:48:10   don't really enjoy or I'm not going to [TS]

01:48:12   bother watching yeah exactly especially [TS]

01:48:14   especially was like oh wouldn't be funny [TS]

01:48:16   if we do the episode about a really bad [TS]

01:48:18   movie that we all hate and then I find [TS]

01:48:20   myself I gotta watch that I got to watch [TS]

01:48:21   the two star trek movies I can't stand [TS]

01:48:24   i'm going to put in the Star Wars [TS]

01:48:26   Holiday Special which always sounds like [TS]

01:48:27   more fun to watch them will you [TS]

01:48:30   well I disagree oh I love it but you [TS]

01:48:33   have to watch the rifftrax creampie even [TS]

01:48:35   that makes it bearable [TS]

01:48:37   I find it very hard to watch that yeah I [TS]

01:48:39   enjoyed on ironically now I know how far [TS]

01:48:41   gone I am [TS]

01:48:42   yeah you know episode 51 put me on track [TS]

01:48:46   to read the entire news feed trilogy [TS]

01:48:49   oh yeah beer and yeah yeah that was not [TS]

01:48:53   that i've read the entire Kane Reardon [TS]

01:48:55   trilogy now for the nebula Awards series [TS]

01:48:57   and yeah also regret that I have no [TS]

01:48:59   regrets about that i do have some [TS]

01:49:01   regrets [TS]

01:49:02   oh well it happens I know he said we [TS]

01:49:05   couldn't mention the the superhero [TS]

01:49:06   spectacular but i think he was referring [TS]

01:49:08   to the panelists as opposed to the [TS]

01:49:10   judges [TS]

01:49:11   that's yes see I was smart and stayed [TS]

01:49:14   out of the panel right around around 600 [TS]

01:49:17   when I suddenly realized that I was not [TS]

01:49:19   actually going to be able to sort of [TS]

01:49:21   supplement Phil Michaels very [TS]

01:49:24   well-reasoned judgments by saying I'm [TS]

01:49:26   stupid crap but in fact would have to [TS]

01:49:29   hold up the reasonable size yeah it's [TS]

01:49:31   weird it's weird to be the responsible [TS]

01:49:32   one isn't it yeah I don't like it [TS]

01:49:35   graduations your own don't know why you [TS]

01:49:37   guys do it i'm the only person on earth [TS]

01:49:39   who was not on the simmer superhero [TS]

01:49:41   spectacular i was on coding so i feel [TS]

01:49:44   like i got much like the judges and a [TS]

01:49:47   judge when you and I were judges for one [TS]

01:49:50   and that was that was fine i still think [TS]

01:49:53   I still think the coding was a wise [TS]

01:49:55   decision [TS]

01:49:55   oh yeah god yes and consistent with all [TS]

01:49:58   the other judges so I recall Jason like [TS]

01:50:01   yet thinking me like on on slacker so [TS]

01:50:04   but we're doing the next one you want to [TS]

01:50:05   do this and i have ever look at three [TS]

01:50:07   paragraph email saying i think you've [TS]

01:50:09   got grumpy and beyond that one because I [TS]

01:50:12   try to keep grumpy and away from the [TS]

01:50:14   microphone because I remember I remember [TS]

01:50:16   saying something that I regret it like [TS]

01:50:18   15 minutes and after i realized that my [TS]

01:50:20   page [TS]

01:50:21   my-my-my a 218 code for it by 10 colored [TS]

01:50:25   glossy photographs for the circles and [TS]

01:50:26   arrows of the paragraph and each one [TS]

01:50:28   we're going to be of no use three [TS]

01:50:29   whatsoever i just like I just like I [TS]

01:50:32   again grumpy and he decided to take [TS]

01:50:34   careful Andy constructive Andy take five [TS]

01:50:38   yeah I've got control side maybe I maybe [TS]

01:50:40   I should maybe I should stay home now [TS]

01:50:41   the life of a judge is not as good [TS]

01:50:43   cameras as you would think either [TS]

01:50:44   science isn't filling Lisa beyond pretty [TS]

01:50:46   much all those episodes are most of [TS]

01:50:47   those episodes specifically because it [TS]

01:50:49   was their idea to start with and so I [TS]

01:50:50   felt like they oh yeah I was feeling [TS]

01:50:55   Lisa ruin the podcast we've got one more [TS]

01:50:56   one more question about sort of like [TS]

01:50:58   topics of topics of the show and this is [TS]

01:51:01   from lister market share this out let's [TS]

01:51:04   go Marcus uncomfortable this is listen [TS]

01:51:06   Marcus I was a guest on random Trek some [TS]

01:51:08   months ago and i think on that broadcast [TS]

01:51:11   i mentioned that i don't really like [TS]

01:51:12   star trek first contact as much as most [TS]

01:51:15   people do since I like the joke chaos [TS]

01:51:17   and discord amongst geeks what I would [TS]

01:51:20   like to ask you is this what are some [TS]

01:51:22   contrary and stances you have on bt30 [TS]

01:51:26   topics this could be a show that you [TS]

01:51:28   love that everyone else hates the show [TS]

01:51:30   the gate that everyone else loves a [TS]

01:51:32   particular beloved movie you don't like [TS]

01:51:34   anything you like [TS]

01:51:36   so go forth and make the color matte [TS]

01:51:39   marcos like we wrecked my we commend to [TS]

01:51:42   you the unjustly maligned Bob gasps yeah [TS]

01:51:44   at the end of depth of 300 all the [TS]

01:51:49   income group analyst or each other apart [TS]

01:51:50   there are no rats yeah it's all part of [TS]

01:51:52   Marcus's evil plan we are sparta i'll [TS]

01:51:55   start this one and say that you know i [TS]

01:51:57   know everybody thinks that blade runner [TS]

01:51:58   is this great thing I think it's really [TS]

01:52:00   really boring and almost impossible for [TS]

01:52:02   me to watch so i'll put that one out [TS]

01:52:04   there [TS]

01:52:04   yep you totally answer i'm already [TS]

01:52:06   understood about the avengers movie i [TS]

01:52:08   believe it is gonna say Transformers [TS]

01:52:10   series it makes a lot of money but not [TS]

01:52:12   very good episode [TS]

01:52:13   yes the Avengers it episodes are [TS]

01:52:15   available if you'd like to hear more and [TS]

01:52:17   subscribe to in this newsletter [TS]

01:52:18   I don't like Star Trek or doctor who [TS]

01:52:22   haha i do not hate the Star Wars [TS]

01:52:25   prequels why i didn't say i love them [TS]

01:52:27   but i do not hate them and that in [TS]

01:52:28   itself is contrarian I like episode 1 [TS]

01:52:31   seller is down and i like i like doing [TS]

01:52:35   the movie and don't like the book is [TS]

01:52:39   yeah watch out i think fireflies stupid [TS]

01:52:43   oh I think podcasts are wastefully wait [TS]

01:52:49   for somebody to say they really liked [TS]

01:52:51   the summer superhero spectacular just a [TS]

01:52:53   shark [TS]

01:52:54   I could say in that well it was my [TS]

01:52:56   singing I like the summer superhero [TS]

01:52:58   spectacular I like that I like that I [TS]

01:52:59   liked it [TS]

01:53:00   Monty Hamilton's only ok guys sorry haha [TS]

01:53:04   oh I'm not gonna go so far my dad died [TS]

01:53:08   just like ehrenberg any any any other [TS]

01:53:13   horrible things you'd like to say before [TS]

01:53:14   we move on things that you or or things [TS]

01:53:16   that yeah you you feel like you're just [TS]

01:53:18   came in first game couldn't get through [TS]

01:53:22   more than four episodes of it Eric I'm [TS]

01:53:24   with their there with you places i think [TS]

01:53:26   the quote-unquote good episodes or twin [TS]

01:53:28   peaks aren't all that either huh [TS]

01:53:30   they're ok they're fine they're just not [TS]

01:53:33   gonna it's like everyone goes who twin [TS]

01:53:35   peaks that's odd [TS]

01:53:36   that's how much of a bold statement i [TS]

01:53:38   think twin peaks is only fine [TS]

01:53:40   oh great why don't we find that back i I [TS]

01:53:45   like the highlander TV series i watched [TS]

01:53:47   it all [TS]

01:53:47   wow I don't that's a another country [TS]

01:53:51   alone watching it we knew that we needed [TS]

01:53:53   best universities I think et is a pretty [TS]

01:53:57   good game my just played against us I [TS]

01:54:01   think et is a terrible movie definitely [TS]

01:54:04   could go along with this [TS]

01:54:06   ok getting real guy [TS]

01:54:08   stop doing what Marcus tells you tearing [TS]

01:54:13   us apart of our senior boys walked out [TS]

01:54:16   of the theater to go play ms pacman I [TS]

01:54:18   hate it when mommy and daddy and daddy [TS]

01:54:20   and daddy and what I've done I think [TS]

01:54:25   spending hours and days and weeks of [TS]

01:54:27   your life obsessing about every little [TS]

01:54:29   detail of some sort of fan property yeah [TS]

01:54:31   kind of a waste of time [TS]

01:54:33   rocky and on that note I'm going to move [TS]

01:54:35   onto a couple of personal questions that [TS]

01:54:37   we got even though I specifically said [TS]

01:54:39   no personal questions and as punished I [TS]

01:54:43   will not tell you my address as [TS]

01:54:44   punishment [TS]

01:54:45   I'm not going to punish them i'm going [TS]

01:54:46   to play their personal questions so here [TS]

01:54:48   is number one this is listening huh [TS]

01:54:50   this is a listener Ryan listen Ryan [TS]

01:54:52   Erica and sign has one of the best [TS]

01:54:54   twitter handles ever Holly go dark lee [TS]

01:54:56   erika how did you think of this handle [TS]

01:54:59   and does it have any significance beyond [TS]

01:55:01   great wordplay [TS]

01:55:02   yeah Holly darkly is a sort of a [TS]

01:55:04   take-off on the character named holly [TS]

01:55:06   golightly from a movie which was one of [TS]

01:55:09   my favorites at the time I came up with [TS]

01:55:10   it [TS]

01:55:10   Breakfast at Tiffany's was actually a [TS]

01:55:12   friend of mine who came up with that I [TS]

01:55:14   was trying to think of a handle for [TS]

01:55:15   something or other and she just looked [TS]

01:55:16   at me and she's like don't take this the [TS]

01:55:18   wrong way I mean it respectfully but [TS]

01:55:20   Holly go darkly because i actually had a [TS]

01:55:22   picture of holly golightly on the wall [TS]

01:55:24   in my apartment at the time so it's been [TS]

01:55:27   that ever since it's that simple [TS]

01:55:29   this friend of yours named Tiffany and [TS]

01:55:30   this discussion happened over breakfast [TS]

01:55:32   because i'll be really weird news brunch [TS]

01:55:34   at that would have been perfect [TS]

01:55:36   it was George Peppard word on it when a [TS]

01:55:41   plan comes together he wasn't gonna [TS]

01:55:43   handle comes together here is a personal [TS]

01:55:44   question for Steve lots what day the [TS]

01:55:48   answer is cabbage to Steve lots Steve [TS]

01:55:51   without going down the whole recursive [TS]

01:55:53   clip loop thing again was the history [TS]

01:55:55   behind the skeletal picking the TV show [TS]

01:55:57   draft just maximum randomness or are you [TS]

01:56:00   a closet long time masters of the [TS]

01:56:02   universe fan if the latter when can we [TS]

01:56:05   expect the rocket surgery episode of the [TS]

01:56:07   1987 live action classic Masters of the [TS]

01:56:11   Universe form reviewed by the new york [TS]

01:56:13   times as if you like the toy your love [TS]

01:56:16   the movie [TS]

01:56:18   common dude that is listed at the end of [TS]

01:56:20   course I didn't know it was your way in [TS]

01:56:22   that's present in the world yes it's [TS]

01:56:25   pretty good 1i I think we've discussed [TS]

01:56:28   this before but i was involved in some [TS]

01:56:30   some early mattel toy commercials for [TS]

01:56:33   the he-man and the masters of the [TS]

01:56:35   universe series of action figures i [TS]

01:56:37   think i was on the first commercial [TS]

01:56:39   featuring Skeletor and so I have some [TS]

01:56:41   background with the the hooded skeleton [TS]

01:56:44   as some prefer to meet in generic badges [TS]

01:56:47   see how did you know what's going on [TS]

01:56:49   with you but really when I was when I [TS]

01:56:51   was coming up with stuff to put down for [TS]

01:56:52   that draft I was not taking it extremely [TS]

01:56:55   seriously and I just down with a beer [TS]

01:56:59   and pencil and I said what are this is [TS]

01:57:02   the stupidest possible things i could [TS]

01:57:04   draft in this draft and I wrote down a [TS]

01:57:07   bunch of names and skeletor was on the [TS]

01:57:09   top of the list so the rest is history [TS]

01:57:12   the rest is history if you want to [TS]

01:57:14   listen to bonus track 122b that is that [TS]

01:57:18   that contains Steve explaining a little [TS]

01:57:19   bit about his origin [TS]

01:57:21   look at you in the history of working [TS]

01:57:23   with Skeletor who had some glaring right [TS]

01:57:25   there [TS]

01:57:25   I and as for the movie which I have not [TS]

01:57:27   actually seen i'm certain that will turn [TS]

01:57:29   up at some point on the rocket surgery [TS]

01:57:31   all right hope so it seems inevitable [TS]

01:57:34   but oh and as for as my enjoyment of the [TS]

01:57:36   toy line i was never lets go back to [TS]

01:57:39   that last question master of the [TS]

01:57:40   universe never really fond of it [TS]

01:57:43   gasps people in commercials don't love [TS]

01:57:46   the products that they're talking about [TS]

01:57:47   that i thought the name he man was dumb [TS]

01:57:50   I don't know Scott that's so that's so [TS]

01:57:52   terrifies me i'm going to toss and turn [TS]

01:57:53   on my Casper mattress tonight I'll tell [TS]

01:57:55   you that it's not asleep you'll ever get [TS]

01:57:58   and I could barely spin a tube after [TS]

01:58:00   here in there [TS]

01:58:02   this is a message from a listener who's [TS]

01:58:06   a kind of obscure and you may never have [TS]

01:58:09   heard of him before it's listed jose [TS]

01:58:10   rijoh blowjob is still here and there [TS]

01:58:13   have been many many episodes of the [TS]

01:58:14   uncomfortable about many many topics but [TS]

01:58:16   what is the one topic you wish you could [TS]

01:58:18   talk about in the incomparable that you [TS]

01:58:20   don't think you can put together a panel [TS]

01:58:21   for either because you haven't been able [TS]

01:58:22   to in the past or because you are afraid [TS]

01:58:24   of even proposing the idea and I will [TS]

01:58:27   follow that up but not Israel that's not [TS]

01:58:29   his real name [TS]

01:58:30   okay with this from mr. gary was just [TS]

01:58:32   thinking are similar so we'll listen to [TS]

01:58:34   this one boy and comfortable [TS]

01:58:36   listen Gary here at least one simple [TS]

01:58:38   question what topic do you issue had [TS]

01:58:40   covered at this point so putting that [TS]

01:58:43   together we're going to do around [TS]

01:58:44   another little dress- draft round a a [TS]

01:58:48   topic a topic you can talk about the [TS]

01:58:50   topic you'd like to do a topic that you [TS]

01:58:52   feel we just can't do but I'm gonna go [TS]

01:58:54   around and ask everybody for a topic [TS]

01:58:56   perhaps with this will be another way [TS]

01:58:58   for us to plan future episodes the [TS]

01:59:00   uncomfortable and yes that means I'm [TS]

01:59:02   you're doing my work for me thank you in [TS]

01:59:03   advance chips others do you have a topic [TS]

01:59:05   that you think we should do I i love [TS]

01:59:08   this thing i love it so much it ought to [TS]

01:59:09   be on the mother ship even though it'll [TS]

01:59:11   probably be probably deserves to be on [TS]

01:59:13   the cartoon cast the nineteen eighties [TS]

01:59:15   disney animated series gargoyles [TS]

01:59:19   oh yeah night nineties chip nineties oh [TS]

01:59:22   you're right nineties nineties and god [TS]

01:59:24   i'm alright nevermind it's ruined your [TS]

01:59:25   carcass forget it [TS]

01:59:27   this podcast is over well glam and Dan [TS]

01:59:29   around that panel with you some time [TS]

01:59:31   with this trip but their eye on the [TS]

01:59:33   entire thing it's great it is the it is [TS]

01:59:35   the most obscure disney cartoon of them [TS]

01:59:38   all because it is a serious [TS]

01:59:40   balls-to-the-wall superhero story with [TS]

01:59:43   starting right guard places [TS]

01:59:44   yes are these is just like a spinoff [TS]

01:59:46   from the family matters [TS]

01:59:50   Chester chippendale rest exaggerating [TS]

01:59:53   source working with the cocktails it's [TS]

01:59:55   when Steve Urkel turn himself into a [TS]

01:59:56   gargoyle or a set of gargoyles is was [TS]

01:59:59   under it [TS]

01:59:59   under it [TS]

02:00:00   cartoons of all time hunchback of notre [TS]

02:00:02   dame is what i'm going for was a [TS]

02:00:03   spin-off of that no no no it is no [TS]

02:00:06   spin-off it is it is to us in his name [TS]

02:00:09   we have an adventure series that was [TS]

02:00:12   part of the disney afternoon so it just [TS]

02:00:14   had no business being there it was show [TS]

02:00:16   run by greg weisman who went on to do a [TS]

02:00:18   spectacular spiderman and young gender [TS]

02:00:21   justice and rebels some rebels PRC and I [TS]

02:00:24   think ya are serious serious [TS]

02:00:27   storytelling real drama it's hard to [TS]

02:00:30   believe that it didn't last beyond its [TS]

02:00:33   65 episode run we're not going to talk [TS]

02:00:36   about the ABCs no serious thats just do [TS]

02:00:39   it was it was fantastic until I'm there [TS]

02:00:41   you you pull that pail together I'm on [TS]

02:00:43   it [TS]

02:00:43   we should do a batman animated series [TS]

02:00:45   approach where we pick a handful of [TS]

02:00:46   episodes yeah and watch those yeah i [TS]

02:00:48   would i would be in for that too because [TS]

02:00:50   i like i like cargoes but i didn't watch [TS]

02:00:51   the whole thing so I don't remember it [TS]

02:00:53   that well [TS]

02:00:54   hard to believe that I'd be into cereal [TS]

02:00:56   cereal storytelling fiction with a [TS]

02:00:58   beginning middle and an end in a series [TS]

02:01:00   or dan do you have a topic that you [TS]

02:01:03   think we should do or or or otherwise [TS]

02:01:05   you dream about us doing in a future [TS]

02:01:07   episode [TS]

02:01:08   well now chip mention to go on gargoyles [TS]

02:01:10   and i already mentioned that [TS]

02:01:12   supernatural up so that will never [TS]

02:01:13   happen but the thing that's been AI [TS]

02:01:16   think i mentioned recently to that we [TS]

02:01:17   banded around way back in one of the [TS]

02:01:19   early episodes is at subway we probably [TS]

02:01:21   should do it dark tower episode and if [TS]

02:01:23   not only because it seems like they are [TS]

02:01:25   actually making a film [TS]

02:01:27   finally after years and years of of [TS]

02:01:29   hesitant stops and starts I'm a little [TS]

02:01:33   daunted by that prospect because it's [TS]

02:01:35   now been a decade since I finished the [TS]

02:01:36   spirits and I worry that I'm gonna have [TS]

02:01:39   to go back and read all of it all over [TS]

02:01:41   again and as much as I enjoyed it i just [TS]

02:01:43   it's like it's like the idea by climbing [TS]

02:01:45   a mountain all over again like a man I [TS]

02:01:46   felt such great accomplishment when i [TS]

02:01:48   reached the top of that mountain but I [TS]

02:01:49   the idea of going back and doing it all [TS]

02:01:51   over again is is a little bit terrifying [TS]

02:01:54   that's old I'm gonna go read the [TS]

02:01:55   Darktown you read the dark tower don't [TS]

02:01:57   you have to read every single one of his [TS]

02:01:59   books [TS]

02:01:59   yes that's what I'm going to do I'm [TS]

02:02:01   eight books into the grand plan [TS]

02:02:04   oh my which is like three books into the [TS]

02:02:06   dark tower series [TS]

02:02:08   oh boy the turn is awful of things like [TS]

02:02:10   all right now go read these three other [TS]

02:02:13   books then come back there even tell [TS]

02:02:14   someone escalon character [TS]

02:02:16   yeah I'm not gonna do all that but I [TS]

02:02:19   think I I mean maybe this goes down into [TS]

02:02:22   a shows that we want to produce but [TS]

02:02:24   don't actually want to work for her or [TS]

02:02:27   not but it's on the listing wanted to do [TS]

02:02:29   with bacon seminal we should talk about [TS]

02:02:31   yeah i think so it's on the to-do list [TS]

02:02:33   but you might have to host a dance OB [TS]

02:02:35   just thinking oh dear God I got your [TS]

02:02:37   back and therefore you and thank God I [TS]

02:02:39   do you have a topic that you think we [TS]

02:02:41   should cover that we haven't covered [TS]

02:02:42   yeah i think we talked about this a [TS]

02:02:43   couple of times and hopefully we haven't [TS]

02:02:45   actually done episode about it and i [TS]

02:02:46   blanked out but Iain M banks is the [TS]

02:02:50   culture series which is a 10 book non [TS]

02:02:54   chronological thing that he wrote I [TS]

02:02:57   think deserves attention [TS]

02:02:59   it's one of my favorite series and I [TS]

02:03:02   think it's a great space opera and it [TS]

02:03:04   has wonderful things about it and we [TS]

02:03:06   should talk about it [TS]

02:03:07   alright that's good i'll put that on the [TS]

02:03:08   list to the culture see right menu i [TS]

02:03:10   read many of those it's come up a couple [TS]

02:03:11   of my means their effort one of the [TS]

02:03:14   episodes [TS]

02:03:15   yeah i've had i've read a couple of the [TS]

02:03:16   hell is read enough not nothing really I [TS]

02:03:19   loved me I don't know about cultures the [TS]

02:03:20   great names the ship's the assets and [TS]

02:03:22   muskets borrowed pava yellow funny drone [TS]

02:03:25   ships in the first base X are all like [TS]

02:03:27   culture ship name's Eric idea of a topic [TS]

02:03:31   for us for the future [TS]

02:03:32   um I don't know if it's one that we [TS]

02:03:34   actually need to do but it's one that I [TS]

02:03:36   want to do I i I've sort of made it my [TS]

02:03:38   unofficial goal in life to talk about [TS]

02:03:39   the movie labyrinth on as many podcasts [TS]

02:03:41   as possible and i have spoken about it [TS]

02:03:44   briefly in in many little places where I [TS]

02:03:45   can sort of shoehorn it in but the only [TS]

02:03:47   at the only one time that I got to talk [TS]

02:03:49   about it at length on a podcast I kind [TS]

02:03:52   of got blackout drunk and to remembering [TS]

02:03:54   into the podcast WTF podcast and [TS]

02:03:59   actually you know have all of my [TS]

02:04:00   faculties throughout the whole thing too [TS]

02:04:02   because i have many thoughts about that [TS]

02:04:03   film it's funny you used the phrase [TS]

02:04:05   shoehorn it in with reference to that [TS]

02:04:07   movie because the only thing I remember [TS]

02:04:09   about it is Bowie's pants [TS]

02:04:11   well I'm not gonna lie that's a [TS]

02:04:14   highlight but that's not the only you [TS]

02:04:18   know what to call this meeting without [TS]

02:04:19   Carly but [TS]

02:04:20   some system planning their it's just a [TS]

02:04:23   different day Steve telling to tell me [TS]

02:04:25   what's the topic we should we should [TS]

02:04:26   cover haha well I've long ago given up [TS]

02:04:29   the idea that we might talk about horror [TS]

02:04:30   movies on this because people just can't [TS]

02:04:32   hack it [TS]

02:04:33   although although i do want to do scary [TS]

02:04:35   old movie club this year because the old [TS]

02:04:36   movies you guys can probably deal with [TS]

02:04:38   her [TS]

02:04:39   there's not a lot of blood we might have [TS]

02:04:40   mind Christmas out we could move over to [TS]

02:04:43   halloween sure we could do we could do [TS]

02:04:45   our own shocktoberfest sure that would [TS]

02:04:47   be exciting but i think i think would be [TS]

02:04:50   I think I brought this up once is like a [TS]

02:04:52   joke just to bait [TS]

02:04:54   poor Tony sindelar not no more talk [TS]

02:04:56   about it the more I think it would be a [TS]

02:04:57   pretty good episode i think doing a [TS]

02:04:59   sports fandom episode from a geeky [TS]

02:05:01   perspective would actually be really [TS]

02:05:03   interesting and if your first thought [TS]

02:05:06   like mine is that would alienate nine [TS]

02:05:07   ninety percent of our listeners I think [TS]

02:05:09   that's part of the point i mean it [TS]

02:05:10   shouldn't [TS]

02:05:11   it's just something else to geek out [TS]

02:05:12   about and you know i know a lot of geeks [TS]

02:05:14   who are big sports fans and I know [TS]

02:05:16   others who think that's somehow [TS]

02:05:17   repulsive and some quick and it [TS]

02:05:20   shouldn't really be a divisive things i [TS]

02:05:22   think it could serve both is like a [TS]

02:05:23   discussion of why sports appeal to us as [TS]

02:05:26   geeks and as people just in general and [TS]

02:05:28   and also maybe as you know what it means [TS]

02:05:30   to bridge the gap between sports geeks [TS]

02:05:33   and and other types [TS]

02:05:35   I like that idea i would i would not be [TS]

02:05:37   on this episode no course I i watch i [TS]

02:05:40   watch sports so I can drink beer during [TS]

02:05:42   the day exactly the second definition of [TS]

02:05:44   living with you see if you don't have to [TS]

02:05:46   do that [TS]

02:05:47   yeah glad I have to ask and I'm afraid [TS]

02:05:49   of what the answer is going to be but is [TS]

02:05:51   there topic we should cover [TS]

02:05:52   it's not a German I want that but bigger [TS]

02:05:57   than a breadbox know i love to talk [TS]

02:05:59   about i got to actually pick one should [TS]

02:06:02   be yeah you should be i'll the one [TS]

02:06:04   that's a lathe of heaven is one as I [TS]

02:06:06   think was an influential PBS movie was [TS]

02:06:10   like the only movie they funded or [TS]

02:06:12   something [TS]

02:06:12   23 years ago and I was a teenager I saw [TS]

02:06:16   this thing and I already read Ursula [TS]

02:06:17   kayla quinn a bunch of her work but I [TS]

02:06:21   was really blown away by the adaptation [TS]

02:06:22   and then they made one several years ago [TS]

02:06:25   they made as somewhat worse version of [TS]

02:06:27   the earth the first one wasn't [TS]

02:06:30   the ps1 wasn't released for a long time [TS]

02:06:32   because of music clearance rights had a [TS]

02:06:34   Beatles song in it and they did not [TS]

02:06:35   actually among other things they didn't [TS]

02:06:38   do that the clearance right so they did [TS]

02:06:40   just to show it on TV because what would [TS]

02:06:41   you ever do with it again and there's [TS]

02:06:44   the book the two adaptations and it's [TS]

02:06:46   just a really have another interesting [TS]

02:06:48   but i don't think anybody else need [TS]

02:06:49   comfortable finds later heaven [TS]

02:06:50   interesting enough as a concept has my [TS]

02:06:53   kind of connection with the boy you had [TS]

02:06:54   me at PBS I like the length of heaven [TS]

02:06:58   i've read it several oh I just never [TS]

02:07:00   seen the movie the movie there's two [TS]

02:07:01   movies are very interesting and there's [TS]

02:07:04   also the broader topic will be like [TS]

02:07:05   Ursula K Le Guin I want to do with James [TS]

02:07:07   Tiptree jr. episode 1.2 there's a bunch [TS]

02:07:10   of authors female authors from that [TS]

02:07:12   period two had a huge impact on the [TS]

02:07:15   future syfy maybe that would be a better [TS]

02:07:16   broader topic i don't know i don't like [TS]

02:07:18   22 pigeon-holed acts like us to do stuff [TS]

02:07:20   that's more I'm integrative and i think [TS]

02:07:22   i want to say all this to a female [TS]

02:07:23   authors episode but there are people who [TS]

02:07:25   i think we never really talked about [TS]

02:07:27   directly and that's just that's what [TS]

02:07:29   will happen ok I I'm gonna put on a list [TS]

02:07:32   it might happen you never know Andy do [TS]

02:07:34   you have a topic for us [TS]

02:07:35   yeah I'm the mention of PBS suddenly [TS]

02:07:38   made me change my change my idea because [TS]

02:07:41   the PG Woodhouse podcast that has to be [TS]

02:07:43   a series [TS]

02:07:44   oh I don't have to we have to have like [TS]

02:07:47   an episode on Smith we have to do a [TS]

02:07:48   genius episode of two mr mulliner [TS]

02:07:50   episode almost with castle episode sofas [TS]

02:07:53   one episode is Avery's yeah exactly the [TS]

02:07:56   oldest member [TS]

02:07:57   ok I I think we've got into gonna be [TS]

02:07:59   okay [TS]

02:08:00   yeah you got it is gonna do the work to [TS]

02:08:03   get back to listen marks ? but the real [TS]

02:08:06   trick [TS]

02:08:07   well you're getting you're getting most [TS]

02:08:08   of the t-shirt revenues jason i think [TS]

02:08:10   that you have to realize he's rolling in [TS]

02:08:12   dollars t-shirt money man the sweet [TS]

02:08:15   teacher money let me tell you you're one [TS]

02:08:17   of them still scream something nobles [TS]

02:08:19   yeah [TS]

02:08:20   Scrooge McDuck style pile of gold in his [TS]

02:08:24   bag because actually just by leticia [TS]

02:08:25   right [TS]

02:08:27   easier to swim through and real life [TS]

02:08:29   though yeah yeah yeah [TS]

02:08:31   ah so it says that PG Woodhouse is that [TS]

02:08:34   your answer i was if we can do if we do [TS]

02:08:37   a series PG Wodehouse if we if it's only [TS]

02:08:38   one episode are you being served alright [TS]

02:08:41   I Monty um well I was going to say [TS]

02:08:46   musical theater but I don't think that's [TS]

02:08:47   actually geeky enough to be [TS]

02:08:49   uncomfortable so whats there was locked [TS]

02:08:52   why it really is Monty we do differently [TS]

02:08:55   i thought we had that planned already [TS]

02:08:56   and we're gonna do musical theater [TS]

02:08:57   episode and i really want to beat up all [TS]

02:08:58   the panelists booming in is Kiki roads [TS]

02:09:04   we're gonna have to workshop that [TS]

02:09:05   podcast in new haven first high official [TS]

02:09:09   answer for this question is Robert [TS]

02:09:12   highland happy because he is a big [TS]

02:09:14   important science fiction author with a [TS]

02:09:17   lot of work was very problematic in a [TS]

02:09:20   lot of ways haha and very complicated [TS]

02:09:23   and interesting in other ways yeah so [TS]

02:09:25   I'm certain an hour of interesting [TS]

02:09:26   discussion could be had migrated the [TS]

02:09:29   conference conversation might be too [TS]

02:09:31   interesting to broadcast that hasn't [TS]

02:09:34   happened to us yet so we've never been [TS]

02:09:37   that interesting so with 300 episodes [TS]

02:09:39   how many quote marks around interesting [TS]

02:09:40   money like 10 legitimately on ironically [TS]

02:09:44   interests ya know what you mean [TS]

02:09:45   interesting like problematic like we [TS]

02:09:47   couldn't air it because of my talk about [TS]

02:09:48   it so seriously that we would get in [TS]

02:09:50   trouble [TS]

02:09:50   well a podcast is on the internet and [TS]

02:09:53   one of the matter is that any discussion [TS]

02:09:56   of Robert highland to generate very [TS]

02:09:58   quick haha okay yeah that's true [TS]

02:10:00   mhm i use that David you have a topic [TS]

02:10:04   well thinking about things that I would [TS]

02:10:06   be afraid that i couldn't get a panel [TS]

02:10:09   for I don't think there is anything [TS]

02:10:11   because I mean we have done a Broadway [TS]

02:10:15   musical episode we've done Hamilton [TS]

02:10:17   already that's been on the show who [TS]

02:10:20   would have thought that you know 300 [TS]

02:10:22   episodes ago so you know I i think we [TS]

02:10:25   could probably make anything nerdy [TS]

02:10:26   enough as for something i would love to [TS]

02:10:29   do and I think it is still on the list [TS]

02:10:32   i've i've mentioned it before the [TS]

02:10:35   prisoner [TS]

02:10:36   yes is only 17 episodes at one graphic [TS]

02:10:39   novel sequel [TS]

02:10:40   and it's on by iron maiden and a song by [TS]

02:10:43   our min only observe really bad and a [TS]

02:10:47   really weird animal to game by Edgware [TS]

02:10:49   see it's right it writes itself [TS]

02:10:52   really yeah i designed to us with the [TS]

02:10:54   font in college also and series over [TS]

02:10:56   there you go for and maybe an episode on [TS]

02:10:59   Astro City which is one of my all-time [TS]

02:11:03   classic comic books it it's just such a [TS]

02:11:05   but it's a lovely sort of metal reality [TS]

02:11:08   around have superheroes and how they [TS]

02:11:10   interact in the real world and I'd [TS]

02:11:13   rather read that than Batman or Superman [TS]

02:11:14   or any of the other things fair enough [TS]

02:11:17   so micronauts even micronauts micronauts [TS]

02:11:22   but you know I fell in love with [TS]

02:11:25   microdots when I was six large on [TS]

02:11:26   syracuse a review the micros comic books [TS]

02:11:28   for me that just read more that's not [TS]

02:11:30   finally done with Robin micronet or is [TS]

02:11:33   it just 10 same same writer to convert [TS]

02:11:37   both of those toys into comics but but [TS]

02:11:40   not related up for my choice i'm gonna [TS]

02:11:43   actually say james cameron's a movie the [TS]

02:11:46   abyss which is actually a favorite of [TS]

02:11:48   mine he any special edition that has the [TS]

02:11:52   good ending [TS]

02:11:53   yeah I handle it with all the human [TS]

02:11:55   story it's going to mean one that has [TS]

02:11:57   n-n-nyang and and I've seen I've seen it [TS]

02:12:00   I saw it in i think 70-millimeter when [TS]

02:12:03   they restored it and did the special [TS]

02:12:04   edition in the movie theater was [TS]

02:12:05   beautiful [TS]

02:12:06   not available in high definition except [TS]

02:12:08   there's a version like that runs on [TS]

02:12:10   cable sometimes but it's not the special [TS]

02:12:12   edition it's the original edition and [TS]

02:12:14   that's a waste of time so that's on my [TS]

02:12:17   dream list but i'm not going to do it [TS]

02:12:18   until they finally released a proper you [TS]

02:12:20   know HD a widely available version of of [TS]

02:12:24   the special edition of that of that film [TS]

02:12:25   but i love that movie a lot and i would [TS]

02:12:27   love to do an episode about it and I [TS]

02:12:29   have held back because they you know I [TS]

02:12:32   james cameron is too busy plotting [TS]

02:12:33   avatar sequels i guess to release this [TS]

02:12:37   excellent movie that he made in like [TS]

02:12:39   nineteen ninety so the in the making of [TS]

02:12:42   getting the making-of documentary that [TS]

02:12:43   was on the special edition is also super [TS]

02:12:46   awesome this this is how much i love the [TS]

02:12:48   biz my wife my have wedding rings that [TS]

02:12:51   are based on the wedding rings in the [TS]

02:12:52   movie yeah I know the novelization is [TS]

02:12:56   the only Orson Scott Card novel that i [TS]

02:12:59   have finished [TS]

02:13:00   ah me too that was with your right hand [TS]

02:13:02   like colored dyed blue eyes and you [TS]

02:13:05   stick it in the toilet times just to [TS]

02:13:06   remind yourself nobody did get trapped [TS]

02:13:09   in a door to like widget marriage is [TS]

02:13:12   like getting your head propped the door [TS]

02:13:14   and rapidly flooding compartments [TS]

02:13:16   screaming for someone to let you out let [TS]

02:13:19   you out for God's sakes this is a [TS]

02:13:21   horrible mistake [TS]

02:13:22   let me out yet are our values were wild [TS]

02:13:25   we've got some more [TS]

02:13:26   these are kind of like quick questions [TS]

02:13:27   from from listeners just sort of general [TS]

02:13:29   if you've got answers i would love to [TS]

02:13:31   hear them this is a this is a listener [TS]

02:13:33   Tobias all-star tobiason hi I'm Toby [TS]

02:13:36   from Germany and not from temple in time [TS]

02:13:39   fo sorry to stop all congratulations to [TS]

02:13:43   300 episodes you guys in the [TS]

02:13:46   incomparable network give me so much joy [TS]

02:13:48   and so many irritated glances by other [TS]

02:13:51   people like no other partners that they [TS]

02:13:54   can get that all by myself through your [TS]

02:13:56   podcast and through some of your good [TS]

02:13:58   read profiles i have found a lot of [TS]

02:14:00   entertaining funny exciting beautiful [TS]

02:14:03   books so my question for us how do you [TS]

02:14:07   find those great books is there another [TS]

02:14:09   secret podcast network that recommends [TS]

02:14:12   them to you all the best for your next [TS]

02:14:15   300 episodes by he knows about the [TS]

02:14:17   secret Network we must have been greater [TS]

02:14:20   community center staff stopped or Milan [TS]

02:14:23   can you tell me what that guy just said [TS]

02:14:24   yeah it's really designed for android on [TS]

02:14:27   non-violence already sounded the cabinet [TS]

02:14:30   and my answer is that I i read with [TS]

02:14:33   Scott tells me but what I want to know [TS]

02:14:34   is how to Scott find books to read i [TS]

02:14:37   read with Jason [TS]

02:14:40   I read what Skeletor tells you i was [TS]

02:14:45   gonna say it's the recursive book [TS]

02:14:46   recommendation that's right i mean i [TS]

02:14:47   wish it was a more interesting answer [TS]

02:14:49   but it's really not [TS]

02:14:50   I go to a lot of bookstores and I look a [TS]

02:14:51   little lot of books and I read the ones [TS]

02:14:53   that i think are interesting [TS]

02:14:54   yeah just bookstore your property [TS]

02:14:56   anybody here I do it's it's it's a store [TS]

02:14:58   with books in it and like so many busy [TS]

02:15:01   people i listen to what i read what the [TS]

02:15:04   incomparable tell ya to guy let Scott [TS]

02:15:06   draft me I that in the sense that I just [TS]

02:15:08   riding this weekend maybe what he tells [TS]

02:15:10   me when I say that's great works over [TS]

02:15:12   like a draft where he picks you because [TS]

02:15:13   nobody picks in the draft [TS]

02:15:15   oh that I just go to a lot of [TS]

02:15:19   conventions and meet authors and then i [TS]

02:15:21   read their books and usually I hope [TS]

02:15:23   they're good yeah yeah [TS]

02:15:25   so far I've been lucky at some point I'm [TS]

02:15:27   going to have going to meet somebody i'm [TS]

02:15:28   going to read the book and never want to [TS]

02:15:30   see them again but so fine okay to make [TS]

02:15:32   a point of reading their books like by [TS]

02:15:33   them no go [TS]

02:15:37   we've covered this do i do not do that [TS]

02:15:39   alright just really just wondered that [TS]

02:15:41   changed [TS]

02:15:41   sometimes I end up reading books that's [TS]

02:15:43   that Scott and recommends but many [TS]

02:15:44   months later but most of the time [TS]

02:15:46   honestly I kind of like Erica I follow a [TS]

02:15:49   lot of other writers on twitter and i [TS]

02:15:51   often end up reading stuff that they're [TS]

02:15:53   talking about which is not always stuff [TS]

02:15:54   that they themselves have written but it [TS]

02:15:56   is a yeah they talk about books a lot [TS]

02:15:58   weird strange ready yep they're a [TS]

02:16:00   they're in it for four big book they're [TS]

02:16:03   just do have scammed people in china [TS]

02:16:07   it's a book pyramid scam you build and [TS]

02:16:09   you build a pyramid out of books stand [TS]

02:16:12   yep there you go that's why i said ya [TS]

02:16:14   was your works out so yes I just read [TS]

02:16:17   books off my diet pile of books to read [TS]

02:16:19   which keeps getting bigger by someone [TS]

02:16:22   marry someone at night keeps adding them [TS]

02:16:24   into Marty's pile no Steve Steve tell us [TS]

02:16:27   how you find books I can't read no it [TS]

02:16:31   doesn't make any know it makes no [TS]

02:16:33   difference to me [TS]

02:16:34   they're delicious little mustard unison [TS]

02:16:36   here's what here's a question for mr. [TS]

02:16:38   Patrick hey guys i'm probably going from [TS]

02:16:41   German German happy episodes like that [TS]

02:16:44   so i guess my question [TS]

02:16:46   I've never seen a single episode of [TS]

02:16:48   doctor who yet thanks to your podcast [TS]

02:16:50   I've listened to about 30 hours of audio [TS]

02:16:52   comment [TS]

02:16:53   hurry and now I think that's what the [TS]

02:16:55   deal was that your house all of our [TS]

02:16:57   amazing on time you want to stuff them [TS]

02:16:59   anyway huh what piece of pop culture do [TS]

02:17:03   you only know but thanks to the [TS]

02:17:05   uncomfortable that's the most german [TS]

02:17:07   thing ever [TS]

02:17:08   yeah alright it's safe it's a haha i [TS]

02:17:12   want him to write cast and direct an [TS]

02:17:15   episode of what he thinks doctor who is [TS]

02:17:17   like you know it's just a description [TS]

02:17:20   was gonna say it's like that the german [TS]

02:17:21   film of Hamlet where they translated the [TS]

02:17:23   Shakespeare into german and then when [TS]

02:17:25   they released the movie in America they [TS]

02:17:27   translated the German instead of [TS]

02:17:29   actually using this trip so he's ready [TS]

02:17:31   like that I've already forgotten the [TS]

02:17:33   question what when it's a beautiful pop [TS]

02:17:35   culture you only know about thanks to [TS]

02:17:37   the incomparable I guess there's [TS]

02:17:39   probably a lot of comic books honestly [TS]

02:17:40   game of thrones like I have no idea [TS]

02:17:42   what's going on but people really angry [TS]

02:17:44   last night really could use that's where [TS]

02:17:46   is not the uncomfortable and most of [TS]

02:17:48   what I know about star trek movies and [TS]

02:17:50   later Star Trek series comes from people [TS]

02:17:52   arguing about whether or not they're any [TS]

02:17:54   good on the comp yeah they are [TS]

02:17:59   I only know about robot Cowboys getting [TS]

02:18:03   their carbon ago I say come from haha [TS]

02:18:05   geometries radio material career is [TS]

02:18:09   definitely right [TS]

02:18:10   this here's a really good one this is [TS]

02:18:13   another book related one not finally a [TS]

02:18:15   really good one [TS]

02:18:16   yeah sorry one polyol later thanks also [TS]

02:18:21   for you're ready for that [TS]

02:18:23   hi this is jason from South Carolina mr. [TS]

02:18:26   jason has a listener to be uncomfortable [TS]

02:18:28   i look to the panelists to discover new [TS]

02:18:30   things that might be interesting to read [TS]

02:18:33   or watch or video games to play and in [TS]

02:18:36   these times of confusion i was wondering [TS]

02:18:38   where you turn to find new forms of [TS]

02:18:40   entertaining so he's broadened it now to [TS]

02:18:42   all other forms of entertainment things [TS]

02:18:44   that Steve doesn't have to read for [TS]

02:18:46   example little worried that we've heard [TS]

02:18:47   from a listener Jason and Elyssa nerd [TS]

02:18:49   and their might to be actually be a [TS]

02:18:50   shadowing comparable out there if [TS]

02:18:53   there's a listener Monty their games i [TS]

02:18:55   get all my recommendations from the [TS]

02:18:57   shadow yeah that's right my advice from [TS]

02:18:58   crew knows what recommendations [TS]

02:19:00   why the heart to be uncomfortable but if [TS]

02:19:02   if there is I i think it's always hard I [TS]

02:19:04   honestly what I said this in our in our [TS]

02:19:06   first segment of episode three hundred [TS]

02:19:08   that so much of my life now is devoted [TS]

02:19:11   to reading watching playing things for [TS]

02:19:14   other podcast that's that's my answer is [TS]

02:19:18   if it's going to be on the podcast then [TS]

02:19:20   i will read it or watch it or play it [TS]

02:19:22   and that's pretty much almost everything [TS]

02:19:25   now for me [TS]

02:19:26   yeah same here this podcast or one of my [TS]

02:19:28   other three or four five I'm trying so [TS]

02:19:31   hard now because the incomparable and [TS]

02:19:34   other podcasts are basically feeding me [TS]

02:19:35   what I should be reading i'm actually [TS]

02:19:37   trying to take a step back and try to [TS]

02:19:40   surprise myself and just pick up a [TS]

02:19:41   random stuff on the shelves now just [TS]

02:19:43   just to not be reading everything that [TS]

02:19:47   everybody else is telling me to read [TS]

02:19:48   oddly enough I getting a lot of my books [TS]

02:19:50   through the google books public domain [TS]

02:19:51   where I'll just be reading like a [TS]

02:19:53   newspaper from like the eighteen [TS]

02:19:55   nineties and the reference the reference [TS]

02:19:57   a book that like someone really like and [TS]

02:19:59   then i can now download that book of [TS]

02:20:01   this entirely entirely entirely alien [TS]

02:20:03   world were a world much like our own but [TS]

02:20:06   in a bizarre sort of mirror dimension [TS]

02:20:08   because it's the 1890s and they have [TS]

02:20:10   phones or anything and that's kind of [TS]

02:20:13   supply most of my eye I buy a lot of new [TS]

02:20:14   nonfiction but most of my fiction i have [TS]

02:20:17   to admit are like public domain books i [TS]

02:20:19   just came across on google but wow I [TS]

02:20:21   follow chip around and just reread 3 / [TS]

02:20:26   shoulders [TS]

02:20:27   sure yeah let's say yes creepy dan he's [TS]

02:20:30   tall [TS]

02:20:31   I just keep reading and playing the same [TS]

02:20:32   stuff over and over again I spent all [TS]

02:20:34   day today playing dragon age inquisition [TS]

02:20:36   for the third time I want to see how [TS]

02:20:38   everyone has so much time to consume [TS]

02:20:40   media that's mine on listener question [TS]

02:20:42   right I fold time are my children [TS]

02:20:45   interfering with my ability to consume [TS]

02:20:47   media yes you should come out outside [TS]

02:20:49   you also you also have more money for [TS]

02:20:51   books easy to simply I don't actually [TS]

02:20:54   consume anything new [TS]

02:20:56   unless it's for the podcast because [TS]

02:20:58   there are a hundred plus years of things [TS]

02:21:02   that i really should have watched by now [TS]

02:21:04   that i have never gotten around to or [TS]

02:21:06   read or played or whatever the case may [TS]

02:21:09   be [TS]

02:21:09   and there's always something that I've [TS]

02:21:12   meant to watch or read or whatever you [TS]

02:21:14   know years ago queued up i have such a [TS]

02:21:17   towering q4 all different types of media [TS]

02:21:20   that frankly I'm happy when nobody [TS]

02:21:22   bracket recommends anything new to me [TS]

02:21:24   because I wouldn't have time for it [TS]

02:21:25   anyway right here's a here's a book [TS]

02:21:28   related question so get ready Scott from [TS]

02:21:31   from a listener here it is [TS]

02:21:33   I'm not ready no that's hurtful Jason [TS]

02:21:35   hello incomparable panelists i'm carrie [TS]

02:21:37   Ann from australia on the only sci-fi [TS]

02:21:40   fan in a book club and it's my turn to [TS]

02:21:43   choose a book do you have any [TS]

02:21:45   recommendations for what science fiction [TS]

02:21:47   novel i can introduce the rest of the [TS]

02:21:49   group to without scaring loss [TS]

02:21:52   hmm drinking so what is no crash [TS]

02:21:56   everybody was watching that you're [TS]

02:21:59   making somebody get a Bradbury everybody [TS]

02:22:01   loves that stuff 2312 I'm oh why we [TS]

02:22:06   griefing listen and I was going to say [TS]

02:22:08   station 11 because I feel like that that [TS]

02:22:10   that that's like a science-fiction any [TS]

02:22:12   kind of book that I think people who [TS]

02:22:14   aren't into science fiction will have [TS]

02:22:15   less of a problem with because while it [TS]

02:22:18   is not a suitable extrapolation of how [TS]

02:22:21   an Armageddon scenario would actually go [TS]

02:22:23   what are responding so that's very [TS]

02:22:25   lyrical and and and i thought it was [TS]

02:22:28   pretty and and a nice book anyway it's [TS]

02:22:31   mostly written a little spark really [TS]

02:22:33   good conversations I think here is the [TS]

02:22:36   Martian of lame suggestion [TS]

02:22:37   yes oh that although the book and [TS]

02:22:44   talking against notebooks you know books [TS]

02:22:46   where there's already been a movie [TS]

02:22:47   people have seen that they can cheat [TS]

02:22:48   that's true the chance to I was going to [TS]

02:22:50   suggest a lock-in by john scalzi because [TS]

02:22:53   it happens and you know it's science [TS]

02:22:54   fiction happens is sort of the near [TS]

02:22:55   future but it's something that you know [TS]

02:22:57   you kind of picture that picture having [TS]

02:22:59   it's not too many steps away and it's [TS]

02:23:01   not you know spaceships and and rockets [TS]

02:23:03   and that kind of stuff so that and it's [TS]

02:23:04   a detective story so if people are in [TS]

02:23:06   detective stories you know you've got at [TS]

02:23:08   least that mr. you can hang your hat on [TS]

02:23:09   yeah I was kind of actually just [TS]

02:23:12   something scalzi as well just because I [TS]

02:23:13   feel like his writing style is generally [TS]

02:23:15   very approachable and it's usually [TS]

02:23:18   amusing so that's kind of a soft and [TS]

02:23:22   three into the whole syfy realm I I keep [TS]

02:23:25   coming back to like books that are they [TS]

02:23:29   they feel like i don't know i think they [TS]

02:23:33   are respectable even though they're [TS]

02:23:35   there [TS]

02:23:36   genre or they may like pretend not to be [TS]

02:23:38   honored that they really are John Rizzo [TS]

02:23:39   like Kavalier and clay by michael chabon [TS]

02:23:42   is a good one is cloud atlas right and [TS]

02:23:47   and Goldman can read that the golden the [TS]

02:23:49   genie and actually you know you can just [TS]

02:23:52   say well no it's a historical book about [TS]

02:23:53   the 19th century New York and not [TS]

02:23:55   mention the golem and the genie to hide [TS]

02:23:58   the cover there in the diet it's a book [TS]

02:24:01   called and yeah the night circus [TS]

02:24:05   oh yeah no yeah whatever the night [TS]

02:24:07   circus you see the city in the city yeah [TS]

02:24:09   we just give them cryptonomicon that [TS]

02:24:12   haha breaking over the head with it's a [TS]

02:24:15   great picture is stopped on a [TS]

02:24:17   mathematical point just go all the way [TS]

02:24:18   they'll never be Hyperion series we can [TS]

02:24:23   do you have some good ideas in there i [TS]

02:24:25   think and some some bad ideas but that's [TS]

02:24:27   okay here's a question that actually [TS]

02:24:30   details from Glen's non listener [TS]

02:24:33   question what earlier this is our our [TS]

02:24:35   good friend mr. Ian hey there folks in [TS]

02:24:38   the kiln here in the isle of lewis and [TS]

02:24:40   Scotland where your treasure is going to [TS]

02:24:42   congratulate you i'll be slightly [TS]

02:24:43   differently i'll do the Scots Gaelic so [TS]

02:24:45   mellow New York has three key at [TS]

02:24:48   podcasting mean you will realize that [TS]

02:24:50   the garlic for podcast is a podcast [TS]

02:24:53   anyways I've been involved in podcasting [TS]

02:24:56   myself for a number of years now and I [TS]

02:25:00   just wondered with the incredible [TS]

02:25:03   prodigiously output that you guys have [TS]

02:25:06   only incomparable not to mention you [TS]

02:25:09   know all the sideshows and everything [TS]

02:25:10   else that's going on have you managed to [TS]

02:25:13   find the world's most understanding [TS]

02:25:15   spouses / significant others haha my [TS]

02:25:19   money at the pod / life balance is rod [TS]

02:25:24   life baby [TS]

02:25:25   yeah just come here tell me soon [TS]

02:25:31   I'm so shimmery and [TS]

02:25:33   bring on the next 300 i see why not [TS]

02:25:36   my wife doesn't like me I I don't have [TS]

02:25:38   an answer to this [TS]

02:25:39   yes did the s100 very understanding [TS]

02:25:42   mhm yes my answer was to turn my wife [TS]

02:25:45   into a podcaster brilliant yeah there's [TS]

02:25:48   a podcaster that first but I I overtook [TS]

02:25:50   him so quickly with the number of like a [TS]

02:25:52   record that he does sometimes sort of [TS]

02:25:54   complaining about being a podcast where [TS]

02:25:56   from time to time so i recommend buying [TS]

02:25:58   your spouse a video game of their choice [TS]

02:26:00   popping them turn on the couch and then [TS]

02:26:02   walking out of the room there are stars [TS]

02:26:03   TV shows that I've ceded to Lauren I [TS]

02:26:05   said look I I don't have time to watch [TS]

02:26:07   this band I know you like it so you know [TS]

02:26:09   she's she watched all of justified [TS]

02:26:11   without me so I you know justifies a [TS]

02:26:12   great show right Dan as we haven't seen [TS]

02:26:15   a 60 hours i said i sacrifice that for [TS]

02:26:17   the podcast so it's stuff like that and [TS]

02:26:19   go go back and watch it sits well he [TS]

02:26:21   holds up my girlfriend works a lot of [TS]

02:26:23   nights [TS]

02:26:24   yeah actually Monty Monty's kind of hit [TS]

02:26:26   on and I think for me to which is weird [TS]

02:26:27   since i have the benefit of the time [TS]

02:26:29   zone here because we record late and my [TS]

02:26:32   girlfriend when she also lives in [TS]

02:26:34   different cities got really angry miles [TS]

02:26:37   area Dan yeah that works for me for a [TS]

02:26:39   while to but at the same time I you know [TS]

02:26:44   as someone who doesn't have to you know [TS]

02:26:46   get up super early in the morning [TS]

02:26:47   because they don't have a real job [TS]

02:26:49   I you know having a significant other [TS]

02:26:51   who does have a real job and often gets [TS]

02:26:52   up it sometimes insane hours especially [TS]

02:26:54   like this morning when she flies out at [TS]

02:26:56   like six o'clock in the morning [TS]

02:26:59   yeah it's pretty easy because they want [TS]

02:27:00   to go to sleep early and I'm like I'll [TS]

02:27:02   just be up for like an hour and they [TS]

02:27:03   don't really know how long I'm from [TS]

02:27:04   recording yes a good a good relationship [TS]

02:27:08   is built on a foundation of lies [TS]

02:27:10   sorry I say we all you and everyone in [TS]

02:27:13   my house is asleep right now and and [TS]

02:27:16   then when wen we recording at different [TS]

02:27:18   times because i have recorded during the [TS]

02:27:20   day now and they're very patient they're [TS]

02:27:22   like oh this is this is a cool thing and [TS]

02:27:24   I get to listen to everybody making fun [TS]

02:27:26   of you so so yes record the show but you [TS]

02:27:30   have a very patient and as for my wife [TS]

02:27:32   you know for for a long time [TS]

02:27:34   she's to call yourself a play widow [TS]

02:27:36   because I would be off doing a show for [TS]

02:27:38   like three weeks at a time every night [TS]

02:27:40   for three weeks [TS]

02:27:42   where is this i'm in the house and I'm [TS]

02:27:44   here you know i'm i'm recording try [TS]

02:27:47   what two hours at night when everyone is [TS]

02:27:49   not conscious so that's fine [TS]

02:27:51   Scott I'm not confused but your wife is [TS]

02:27:53   always cooking something to jar it right [TS]

02:27:56   so she has she's very occupied pass [TS]

02:27:58   that's incredibly sexist Glenn she's [TS]

02:28:00   super just can't believe you would talk [TS]

02:28:03   about jarring and 2600k it's it's going [TS]

02:28:08   to be another week and will begin to [TS]

02:28:10   tell it what I whenever I my wife has no [TS]

02:28:13   Scott are you doing a podcast tonight [TS]

02:28:14   and when I usually say no she's sad [TS]

02:28:17   because she has to talk to me so [TS]

02:28:21   podcasts are keeping your keeping your [TS]

02:28:23   relationship strong that exactly [TS]

02:28:24   strongly got chills i find that the at [TS]

02:28:29   the live stream is sometimes helpful to [TS]

02:28:30   because Stephen could just listen to the [TS]

02:28:32   live stream while he's playing his [TS]

02:28:33   hockey video game or whatever they're [TS]

02:28:35   like we're spending all talking to you [TS]

02:28:38   honey [TS]

02:28:39   my-my wife teaches dance and dance is [TS]

02:28:42   often not taught during the day but at [TS]

02:28:45   night and so she is out so nice the [TS]

02:28:47   weekend while she's out my children also [TS]

02:28:49   like minecraft so sometimes they get [TS]

02:28:50   minecraft and I record podcasts [TS]

02:28:53   yeah i was going to add that for the [TS]

02:28:54   actually my girlfriend is the first [TS]

02:28:56   sounding board for all the inconceivable [TS]

02:28:57   all questions so she gets to test them [TS]

02:29:00   before I spring them on you [TS]

02:29:02   unsuspecting folks and occasionally help [TS]

02:29:05   work out problems that exist there in [TS]

02:29:07   yeah so that's that's a handy feature [TS]

02:29:10   potentially of having a significant [TS]

02:29:12   other and that's that's the other thing [TS]

02:29:13   that's nice is that my wife was so happy [TS]

02:29:16   that i can like focus my nerdery and bad [TS]

02:29:19   jokes on you guys and she doesn't hear [TS]

02:29:22   the brunt of it [TS]

02:29:22   holy cow my wife really appreciates that [TS]

02:29:24   too i have a feeling you still got some [TS]

02:29:27   left over after podcast I gotta thank [TS]

02:29:31   the listener because this might shed [TS]

02:29:32   light into the fact that I've been alone [TS]

02:29:34   all my life and I probably always will [TS]

02:29:35   but oh definitely given me something [TS]

02:29:38   sinister [TS]

02:29:40   you're better off that way and this is a [TS]

02:29:42   this is the realest episode wherever he [TS]

02:29:44   is there all the time you have we all [TS]

02:29:47   die alone [TS]

02:29:48   22 reel-to-reel ok this one comes from [TS]

02:29:51   listener carillion could we your friends [TS]

02:29:54   on the other end of the internet here [TS]

02:29:55   how you all know each other [TS]

02:29:57   maybe it's the two X chromosomes but it [TS]

02:29:59   bothers me that I don't have a clear [TS]

02:30:01   mental image of the connections between [TS]

02:30:03   all my incomparable friends is this is [TS]

02:30:06   smell centric universe with revolving [TS]

02:30:08   spheres of friends and colleagues all [TS]

02:30:10   turning around Jason or do some of you [TS]

02:30:13   like Tony and Dan also orbit each other [TS]

02:30:15   like Pluto and Charon I can't explain [TS]

02:30:18   why this matters but it's at the front [TS]

02:30:20   of my mind every time I listen and I'd [TS]

02:30:22   love to push it to the back so I can [TS]

02:30:23   focus on the material thanks and happy [TS]

02:30:26   try centennial I feel like we covered [TS]

02:30:28   some of this ground earlier in part 1 of [TS]

02:30:30   this episode but to answer your question [TS]

02:30:32   a little more completely [TS]

02:30:34   there's a group of incomparable [TS]

02:30:35   panelists who are people I knew in [TS]

02:30:37   college or people they knew when we did [TS]

02:30:42   the TV dot org website back in the [TS]

02:30:45   nineties to very early i think to [TS]

02:30:48   thousands are basically done by 2000 so [TS]

02:30:51   Steve lots Greg moss Philip Michaels [TS]

02:30:55   Monty Ashley and I all went to college [TS]

02:30:59   together also been Boychuk has been on a [TS]

02:31:01   few episodes David Burkhardt who's on [TS]

02:31:04   our urban fantasy episode we all went to [TS]

02:31:06   college together most of us work [TS]

02:31:07   together at the college newspaper a lot [TS]

02:31:10   of us worked at the UCSD guardian at UC [TS]

02:31:12   San Diego and then some people including [TS]

02:31:14   Monty and Steve worked at the kuala [TS]

02:31:16   which was the humor paper Philip [TS]

02:31:18   Michaels crossed over and did both [TS]

02:31:20   we all worked on TV toward more or less [TS]

02:31:24   Lisa joined our orbit at some point in [TS]

02:31:27   there and begin writing for TV as well [TS]

02:31:29   so there's a big chunk of people who [TS]

02:31:32   were sort of following on from the TV [TS]

02:31:34   website and the people i know [TS]

02:31:35   professionally that I got to know you [TS]

02:31:38   know writing about Apple basically [TS]

02:31:39   during my career so obviously damn [TS]

02:31:41   orange on siracusa Scott McNulty and [TS]

02:31:44   Fleischmann all fall into that list [TS]

02:31:46   indian taco I've known since like the [TS]

02:31:49   mid-nineties a very very long time that [TS]

02:31:52   covers almost everybody i became a [TS]

02:31:55   listener of the 2-minute Time Lord [TS]

02:31:57   podcast I can't actually remember how I [TS]

02:32:00   pick that one up but it seemed like a [TS]

02:32:01   good concept for a podcast and so [TS]

02:32:04   through that I got to know who chipset [TS]

02:32:06   it was and then he turns out with [TS]

02:32:08   somebody who is following [TS]

02:32:10   macbreak weekly and Twitter and new [TS]

02:32:12   indian taco from that as well just as a [TS]

02:32:15   viewer and a listener and i had written [TS]

02:32:18   him saying that I like two minute I'm [TS]

02:32:20   large Lord and that ended up being this [TS]

02:32:21   interesting crossover thing I got to [TS]

02:32:23   know chip a little bit better i spoke on [TS]

02:32:25   a panel a Doctor Who convention about [TS]

02:32:26   podcasting that erica was ad although i [TS]

02:32:29   didn't meet her then but then since I [TS]

02:32:31   was sort of following those circles i [TS]

02:32:33   called as depicted earlier i cold-called [TS]

02:32:36   a erika basically and said would you [TS]

02:32:37   like to be on a podcast and that's how [TS]

02:32:39   Erica joint and I didn't mention [TS]

02:32:41   serenity obviously the same thing we [TS]

02:32:42   hired her to write for mac world and [TS]

02:32:44   that's how I got to know serenity and [TS]

02:32:46   you know so many of us working at [TS]

02:32:48   macworld when we put this together back [TS]

02:32:50   in 2010 and then some other people you [TS]

02:32:53   know Lex Friedman likewise somebody we [TS]

02:32:56   who wrote for macworld noises chewing I [TS]

02:32:59   got to know him through a bunch of [TS]

02:33:01   things including his appearances on five [TS]

02:33:03   by five and and merlin mann the same way [TS]

02:33:06   somebody I really news are a blogger and [TS]

02:33:08   a podcaster and then got to know and the [TS]

02:33:11   list goes on [TS]

02:33:12   including now some listeners who have [TS]

02:33:15   sort of converted into the panelists [TS]

02:33:26   a couple commonalities going to college [TS]

02:33:29   with me or being one of my colleagues [TS]

02:33:31   and external ism those are the sort of [TS]

02:33:33   two biggest pools but there are some [TS]

02:33:34   other connections to I hope that helps [TS]

02:33:37   ok here is our bit are super fan and [TS]

02:34:01   three random question so how far we're [TS]
