The Incomparable

266: It`s Impossible Being Green

00:00:02   it's the incomparable episode number 266 [TS]

00:00:06   for october 2015 [TS]

00:00:14   Kermit the Frog is not here but it is [TS]

00:00:17   the uncomfortable podcast and we are [TS]

00:00:18   talking about the muppets i am your host [TS]

00:00:20   Jason snow and i'm joined by for money [TS]

00:00:24   people to talk about Muppets in general [TS]

00:00:26   we will touch on the ABC Muppets series [TS]

00:00:28   and specific a little bit but then we're [TS]

00:00:30   going to move along past and I think [TS]

00:00:31   because there will be blood on the [TS]

00:00:33   tracks and we'll just move along nothing [TS]

00:00:35   more to see there but we will touch on [TS]

00:00:37   it a little bit because you gotta have a [TS]

00:00:38   news pic you gotta have some little [TS]

00:00:40   connection to to current events it's fun [TS]

00:00:42   and that's why we're doing this right [TS]

00:00:44   now let me introduce you to my panelists [TS]

00:00:46   David lower hello neighbor [TS]

00:00:50   hello urn filled Michaels is out there [TS]

00:00:53   hello Phillip Michaels I like to think [TS]

00:00:55   of myself as the Fozzie Bear of this [TS]

00:00:58   podcast I cannot do 40 interesting [TS]

00:01:00   because we like to think of you as the [TS]

00:01:01   scooter [TS]

00:01:02   you take that back you bastard I [TS]

00:01:04   apologize I didn't mean it [TS]

00:01:07   scooter is the most superfluous of all [TS]

00:01:09   of the muppets there's no Muppet more [TS]

00:01:12   useless than skater any how we're [TS]

00:01:14   getting you over so we will get saved [TS]

00:01:16   for the podcast what was it is the [TS]

00:01:17   pockets and admitted at least the [TS]

00:01:20   Schmeisser is also with us hello hi [TS]

00:01:22   there [TS]

00:01:23   I've always felt an affinity for Janice [TS]

00:01:24   are oh wow like well now I feel like [TS]

00:01:28   that's basically my country's most [TS]

00:01:29   conversations that wow man and Erica and [TS]

00:01:34   sign I I was also going to mention [TS]

00:01:36   Janice but Lisa went first and there's [TS]

00:01:39   enough Janice to go around man [TS]

00:01:41   not only that leaves you with a choice [TS]

00:01:43   of two characters i believe ya the vast [TS]

00:01:47   array of female Muppets there's Miss [TS]

00:01:49   Piggy now yeah sooo big issue other pigs [TS]

00:01:55   are also available [TS]

00:01:56   alright so we should talk about the new [TS]

00:02:00   ABC show The Muppets whereas we record [TS]

00:02:02   this two episodes have aired and I that [TS]

00:02:06   was that is the reason that I time this [TS]

00:02:07   episode be here although this was on the [TS]

00:02:09   schedule for quite a while even before [TS]

00:02:11   they announced they were doing a new [TS]

00:02:12   Muppet Show because I felt like we need [TS]

00:02:13   to give them up it's their do as it is [TS]

00:02:16   there is this new show on ABC that is [TS]

00:02:18   run code run by the one of the [TS]

00:02:21   co-creators of the big bang theory it is [TS]

00:02:23   a shot in the style of the office [TS]

00:02:27   a workplace sitcom featuring the muppets [TS]

00:02:29   as they work on Miss Piggy's late-night [TS]

00:02:31   talk show so two episodes you know who [TS]

00:02:35   knows what will happen in the run of the [TS]

00:02:37   show or if it is cancelled rapidly then [TS]

00:02:40   nothing will happen but i'm curious what [TS]

00:02:42   everybody thought of it I have I have [TS]

00:02:45   very mixed feelings about it and I think [TS]

00:02:48   I suspect some of you have not mixed the [TS]

00:02:50   feelings but I let's start with a just [TS]

00:02:54   taking the temperature of this before we [TS]

00:02:55   move on and talk about some other money [TS]

00:02:56   things [TS]

00:02:57   Lisa why don't you why don't you let us [TS]

00:03:00   know what are your thoughts start us off [TS]

00:03:02   about the new ABC Muppets series haha [TS]

00:03:04   look like wow man it's not but it's not [TS]

00:03:10   that sounded more like my best shows I [TS]

00:03:13   should apologize to listings for what [TS]

00:03:14   I've Unleashed um it's just so sad [TS]

00:03:18   um there's a court so i think i was a [TS]

00:03:21   lot of said public schools and it's I'm [TS]

00:03:24   because you know the thing that I really [TS]

00:03:25   loved about the nineteen seventies show [TS]

00:03:27   was the spirit of cheerful mayhem and [TS]

00:03:29   blinds purposefulness as it were like [TS]

00:03:33   all of these guys were deeply devoted to [TS]

00:03:34   pulling off this crappy little show and [TS]

00:03:36   they really love doing it was obvious [TS]

00:03:38   that's why there and instead everybody [TS]

00:03:40   here is working for a domineering boss [TS]

00:03:42   that they all hate there's some sort of [TS]

00:03:43   weird stockholm syndrome thing going on [TS]

00:03:45   comments girlfriend looks like she [TS]

00:03:48   should she shouldn't have a southern [TS]

00:03:49   accent I feel very strongly about that I [TS]

00:03:51   feel like since she looks like natalie [TS]

00:03:52   dormer from Game of Thrones she should [TS]

00:03:53   sound like her do um so I appreciate [TS]

00:03:58   that they're trying to bring in some of [TS]

00:03:59   the elements like that the cranky [TS]

00:04:01   celebrity cameos like I laughed at the [TS]

00:04:03   laurence fishburne bits [TS]

00:04:04   oh yeah the problem is that they've [TS]

00:04:07   attempted to revive and work we work [TS]

00:04:08   this show at a time when the people who [TS]

00:04:10   are most susceptible to nostalgia can [TS]

00:04:12   still readily remember what the original [TS]

00:04:14   Muppet Show was like and it doesn't sit [TS]

00:04:17   right with me i'm wondering if my [TS]

00:04:19   reaction is purely because I do remember [TS]

00:04:21   the original Muppet Show and I respond [TS]

00:04:22   to that and people who maybe grew up on [TS]

00:04:24   YouTube clips or not seen the original [TS]

00:04:25   Muppet Show were like no this is awesome [TS]

00:04:28   I've always dreamed of Puppets having [TS]

00:04:29   work like workplace conflict and last [TS]

00:04:31   ABC is dead [TS]

00:04:32   yes if Papa 10 jobs wouldn't they also [TS]

00:04:35   have soul-crushing problems with their [TS]

00:04:37   jobs you know where that exactly [TS]

00:04:40   David what are your thoughts about the [TS]

00:04:41   ABC Muppets not mixed it all [TS]

00:04:43   no I didn't think they would be now no I [TS]

00:04:46   like my feelings about the muppets like [TS]

00:04:48   I like my bourbon straight [TS]

00:04:50   uh-huh little splash of water maybe two [TS]

00:04:53   maybe [TS]

00:04:54   yeah 22 to cut the edge yeah it is [TS]

00:04:58   depressing [TS]

00:05:00   I mean that that's the thing is the [TS]

00:05:02   original show yet maybe it wasn't the [TS]

00:05:06   greatest variety show ever made and [TS]

00:05:08   that's why you had Statler and Waldorf [TS]

00:05:09   and but but with Kermit in charge it was [TS]

00:05:13   ok for piggy to be an absolute monster [TS]

00:05:16   right but when you flip that dynamic [TS]

00:05:20   you're kind of killing permits joy and [TS]

00:05:25   and and no matter how bleak things got [TS]

00:05:27   when when when Jim Henson was there i [TS]

00:05:31   mean when no matter whose bleep things [TS]

00:05:32   got in the movies or the show there was [TS]

00:05:35   always this essential optimism even when [TS]

00:05:38   Kermit was down he wasn't beaten and [TS]

00:05:41   ever since jim hansen passed away [TS]

00:05:45   it's kind of interesting psychologically [TS]

00:05:47   Kermit has always been a little bit [TS]

00:05:49   depressed but in this he's beaten down [TS]

00:05:52   I mean in the pilot he says my life is a [TS]

00:05:54   bacon-wrapped hell yes and in in the [TS]

00:05:58   second episode he talks about how he [TS]

00:06:00   doesn't know he now that piggy is happy [TS]

00:06:03   and dating Josh Groban hehe doesn't wake [TS]

00:06:05   up he wakes up in the morning to his [TS]

00:06:06   alarm clock instead of his own screening [TS]

00:06:08   yep and and get house is really [TS]

00:06:10   disturbing wide what the hell you know [TS]

00:06:13   and and subscribers laughing because I [TS]

00:06:16   can understand that [TS]

00:06:17   why the big why is this acceptable to [TS]

00:06:19   have current waking up to the sound of [TS]

00:06:20   screens and and so it's it's not so much [TS]

00:06:23   that it's got adult humor because them [TS]

00:06:25   up it's always had little adult besides [TS]

00:06:27   and jokes that's fine maybe it's it's a [TS]

00:06:30   little more crude than it used to be but [TS]

00:06:32   no for me it's that there's no joy there [TS]

00:06:34   is no optimism and there's no magic you [TS]

00:06:37   know seeing their legs is not magic I [TS]

00:06:39   was got more of a sense of magic even [TS]

00:06:41   when you can see the rods moving [TS]

00:06:43   currents arms right because there was a [TS]

00:06:45   safe to him and and this is just dead i [TS]

00:06:50   think david really hit the nail on the [TS]

00:06:53   head with the concept of joy it is a [TS]

00:06:54   joyless show ya get it there that it it [TS]

00:06:59   is as if everyone and and it's [TS]

00:07:01   interesting that let me back up the the [TS]

00:07:03   a big bang theory fellow you mentioned [TS]

00:07:06   he actually got to start working with [TS]

00:07:07   Network for jim hansen he worked for jim [TS]

00:07:09   has already know and i can only assume [TS]

00:07:12   that they sent him out for sandwiches a [TS]

00:07:14   lot because he he seems to have it in [TS]

00:07:19   airlifted to okay here's a puppet show [TS]

00:07:21   go at it well let's make the puppet sad [TS]

00:07:24   and joyless and what's too much big bang [TS]

00:07:26   theory pneus yeah yeah and i'm not i [TS]

00:07:30   don't wanna go [TS]

00:07:31   you can't have the muppets do that [TS]

00:07:32   that's not Muppet canon but sounds like [TS]

00:07:35   San Diego a little bit i mean the real [TS]

00:07:37   san diego not the one who is in the show [TS]

00:07:38   it to me if you're gonna if you're gonna [TS]

00:07:41   do a show and call it in [TS]

00:07:43   Muppets at least um have it somewhat [TS]

00:07:47   have a vein running towards what made [TS]

00:07:50   them up it's so great which is was that [TS]

00:07:52   anarchic a spirit and that lets do [TS]

00:07:56   anything for a laugh and instead of just [TS]

00:07:58   oh and yeah it's it's anarchy is [TS]

00:08:02   supposed to mean spirited slapstick yeah [TS]

00:08:05   yeah I mean spirited yeah you and and [TS]

00:08:09   the old shell Kermit was sort of the [TS]

00:08:10   column in center and in here he is that [TS]

00:08:13   he slashed he is the black joyless pit [TS]

00:08:15   from which nothing can escape and and [TS]

00:08:17   he's just as freaked out as everybody [TS]

00:08:19   else it is it it's not easy being green [TS]

00:08:22   it is impossible being green lord anyhow [TS]

00:08:28   I don't like it I don't like it a bit i [TS]

00:08:30   don't like a thing about it i hope that [TS]

00:08:32   it gets cancelled very quickly if i stop [TS]

00:08:34   thinking about the fact that this is [TS]

00:08:36   supposed to be the muppets I like I was [TS]

00:08:38   mildly entertained by parts of it I [TS]

00:08:40   didn't think it was was terrible but [TS]

00:08:42   when I think about that show in in [TS]

00:08:45   comparison to the rest of the the muppet [TS]

00:08:48   cannon I i find it hard to disagree i [TS]

00:08:51   think that that while there were some [TS]

00:08:53   moments that kind of made me laugh [TS]

00:08:54   the thing that I liked about it so much [TS]

00:08:56   was that the Muppets were there was a [TS]

00:08:58   knee [TS]

00:08:58   they were wacky [TS]

00:08:59   you and they're there isn't any of that [TS]

00:09:01   here and I think kind of what they did [TS]

00:09:03   it's actually this is this is me using [TS]

00:09:05   my own my contractual obligation to [TS]

00:09:07   mention doctor who write this particular [TS]

00:09:08   one reminds me [TS]

00:09:09   it sort of reminds me a little bit in a [TS]

00:09:11   bad way of the the difference between [TS]

00:09:13   classic Doctor Who and new Doctor Who [TS]

00:09:16   and the classic series of Doctor Who [TS]

00:09:17   they weren't really focused on the [TS]

00:09:18   interpersonal relationships and stuff it [TS]

00:09:20   was more about the plot and the stories [TS]

00:09:22   and you know whiz-bang fun and when they [TS]

00:09:25   brought the show back they realize that [TS]

00:09:27   television is not quite made the same as [TS]

00:09:29   it was back in those days so they needed [TS]

00:09:30   to update it and to make it a little bit [TS]

00:09:33   more like television is made these days [TS]

00:09:35   and I think what they did on doctor who [TS]

00:09:37   is they [TS]

00:09:39   they upped the the hope and the joy and [TS]

00:09:42   the love factors very much and brought [TS]

00:09:44   in the the emotions in that way and I [TS]

00:09:46   think they kind of did the opposite with [TS]

00:09:49   the muppets because they took out all of [TS]

00:09:51   the emotions that made everything [TS]

00:09:52   wonderful and in their idea of the way [TS]

00:09:55   television is made now is is that [TS]

00:09:57   everything is is you know joyless and in [TS]

00:10:00   hipstery and just unfun and dark and and [TS]

00:10:05   I think that they they missed the mark [TS]

00:10:06   well you when you when you model it on [TS]

00:10:08   the office a show which is about a [TS]

00:10:10   terrible boss crushing the spirit of [TS]

00:10:12   people who cannot find other jobs and [TS]

00:10:14   are forced to deal with the terrible [TS]

00:10:16   boss you are that is what you're signing [TS]

00:10:20   up for and and that's when I say my [TS]

00:10:22   feelings are actually kind of like [TS]

00:10:23   Erica's actually I i thought the show [TS]

00:10:26   was funny and I i like the Muppets as [TS]

00:10:30   characters because they're the muppets [TS]

00:10:32   right and yet there is this thing about [TS]

00:10:34   it that i'm not convinced that they [TS]

00:10:37   couldn't fix if they are aware that it [TS]

00:10:40   what they're doing and I think that's [TS]

00:10:42   the big open question is are they aware [TS]

00:10:44   of how this is coming off and they're [TS]

00:10:46   like oh god we gotta fix this or like [TS]

00:10:47   now it's great [TS]

00:10:48   let's just keep it like it is because I [TS]

00:10:50   understand the first two episodes are [TS]

00:10:51   very much largely the content of the of [TS]

00:10:54   the sample reel that they shot in order [TS]

00:10:57   to sell this name because that's the [TS]

00:10:59   stuff shop stuff that stops me up short [TS]

00:11:02   and it makes me go wait a second is that [TS]

00:11:04   you compare it to who these characters [TS]

00:11:06   are in your you're making the show [TS]

00:11:09   because you've got these existing [TS]

00:11:10   characters and your kind of banking on [TS]

00:11:12   them and people have them [TS]

00:11:13   clarity with them and their kind of [TS]

00:11:14   loved and then you are putting them in a [TS]

00:11:17   sitcom environment where it might even [TS]

00:11:19   be a funny sitcom and we can argue about [TS]

00:11:21   that if we cared to that I it worked for [TS]

00:11:24   me as comedy while a lot of the time but [TS]

00:11:28   you're doing things to these characters [TS]

00:11:31   that don't fit them and you know I i [TS]

00:11:35   mentioned this on the TV talk machine [TS]

00:11:36   last week and i'll mention it again [TS]

00:11:37   which is I I know Kermit and piggy were [TS]

00:11:41   married and they were dating and that [TS]

00:11:43   implies a romantic relationship that we [TS]

00:11:46   could apply to like human context it's [TS]

00:11:50   like they always stayed on one side of [TS]

00:11:52   the line and on this show their of way [TS]

00:11:55   over on the other side of the line where [TS]

00:11:56   I'm suddenly having wondering about like [TS]

00:11:59   the sex life of Kermit the Frog and you [TS]

00:12:01   know Gotye childhood that was my child I [TS]

00:12:05   don't want to know that common piggy had [TS]

00:12:07   an understanding that if comet ran into [TS]

00:12:10   Lea Thompson in elevator they could do [TS]

00:12:14   it I don't need to know that right [TS]

00:12:17   that's you but now you know but now I [TS]

00:12:19   know and it's and that's when it's [TS]

00:12:20   something that wasn't going to stop [TS]

00:12:22   yeah well yeah it's too it's too it's [TS]

00:12:24   too far so it's like this is the problem [TS]

00:12:26   with it is that I i can say as somebody [TS]

00:12:28   who actually thinks that the show is is [TS]

00:12:31   entertaining that it's still deeply [TS]

00:12:34   problematic because they're been there [TS]

00:12:36   like squandering the the value that they [TS]

00:12:39   have which is the reason they're making [TS]

00:12:40   the show which is the fact that it's the [TS]

00:12:42   muppets at some point it's like why why [TS]

00:12:43   isn't this the avenue q show because [TS]

00:12:45   maybe it would be better if they were [TS]

00:12:47   wacky puppets that work work quite the [TS]

00:12:49   muppets that you were seeing in these [TS]

00:12:50   scenarios like in Avenue Q and not the [TS]

00:12:53   actual Muppets my headcanon is that [TS]

00:12:56   there is actually another Muppet Show [TS]

00:12:58   that's kind of behind this one that's [TS]

00:13:01   the real Muppet Show and this this [TS]

00:13:03   office e-type thing is just something [TS]

00:13:05   that they signed on to do because they [TS]

00:13:07   knew is going to make the money so this [TS]

00:13:08   is the enterprise that they are working [TS]

00:13:09   on now to make money and television but [TS]

00:13:12   there still are wacky crazy people when [TS]

00:13:14   they get off of this particular set i [TS]

00:13:16   just want to see that show that's kind [TS]

00:13:17   of the middle there instead Kermit I [TS]

00:13:19   think I think I think Phil's got it [TS]

00:13:21   exactly right said Kermit is sad and [TS]

00:13:22   permit you know Kermit was always put [TS]

00:13:25   upon but he will [TS]

00:13:26   is like a go-getter he's like I'm gonna [TS]

00:13:29   make it work right and it and even if he [TS]

00:13:31   had got really down like in The Muppet [TS]

00:13:33   movie there would be a moment where he [TS]

00:13:35   would turn it around and in this he is [TS]

00:13:37   just so soon as always [TS]

00:13:40   hey kids let's put on a show in the [TS]

00:13:42   shower and we'll just put it all [TS]

00:13:43   together a little worried that his [TS]

00:13:44   friends and rally around him because [TS]

00:13:45   that was like one of the greatest things [TS]

00:13:47   about all of the muppet properties is at [TS]

00:13:49   some point the cheerful Anarchy pauses [TS]

00:13:51   dr. teeth and the Electric Mayhem look [TS]

00:13:53   up and realize that they make people's [TS]

00:13:54   lives more difficult or gonzo puts down [TS]

00:13:57   the chicken and and pays attention to [TS]

00:13:59   what's going on with these two one [TS]

00:14:00   sexual fetish that was allowed to the [TS]

00:14:02   original money pit was gonna throw in [TS]

00:14:03   the chickens we need to enter like we [TS]

00:14:05   need to rally around karma and help our [TS]

00:14:07   friend because of what and it was this [TS]

00:14:09   great example of how friendship is this [TS]

00:14:12   this beautiful self was Evan flow [TS]

00:14:13   depending on on your needs and and what [TS]

00:14:16   you're capable of doing the time and [TS]

00:14:17   here like every every month is like a [TS]

00:14:20   little coworker island and that they got [TS]

00:14:24   in some parts of workplace culture kind [TS]

00:14:25   of right like I really I i thought the [TS]

00:14:27   barbarous like the girl scout cookies [TS]

00:14:29   thing was slow but that was well down [TS]

00:14:31   yeah it was not you know especially in [TS]

00:14:33   the newscaster came and there is little [TS]

00:14:34   and then they finally realize that if we [TS]

00:14:36   sell snacks to the stoners will make a [TS]

00:14:38   lot of money which that's a nice little [TS]

00:14:40   thing and that almost legal it's legal [TS]

00:14:42   now I i laughed a lot of the idea that [TS]

00:14:45   they were going to do the Electric [TS]

00:14:46   Mayhem unplugged the idea of the [TS]

00:14:48   acoustic mayhem that made me laugh [TS]

00:14:50   it's when you see zoo playing the the [TS]

00:14:52   panpipes and you're like oh my gosh is [TS]

00:14:54   that they really went through there were [TS]

00:14:56   parts of the episode that would have [TS]

00:14:58   been really funny if the show had again [TS]

00:15:00   that spirit of joyful chaotic prints to [TS]

00:15:04   an opportunity of of sadness that you [TS]

00:15:07   know you're miserable and yeah it's also [TS]

00:15:09   all chopped up right [TS]

00:15:11   the the beauty of the Muppet Show and [TS]

00:15:13   even Muppets tonight was that they let [TS]

00:15:15   things breathe and and they let a [TS]

00:15:17   premise play right and this this was [TS]

00:15:20   just like oh here's a quick shot of them [TS]

00:15:22   playing acoustic here's another shot [TS]

00:15:24   name go to the National advocate though [TS]

00:15:25   it's 2015 i don't think they can make [TS]

00:15:27   puppets tonight of the muppet show today [TS]

00:15:28   so they have to have to put it it you [TS]

00:15:31   know to use erika storm gotta put in a [TS]

00:15:33   modern context it's just what you do in [TS]

00:15:34   the modern context and you're right you [TS]

00:15:37   know there's no room for that [TS]

00:15:38   i think the the one thing that killed me [TS]

00:15:40   was the kids pointed out i mean i didn't [TS]

00:15:43   have the same kind of awareness when I [TS]

00:15:45   was little because you didn't have the [TS]

00:15:47   computers in YouTube and everything [TS]

00:15:48   right so I knew Johnny Carson was but at [TS]

00:15:51   that time you just had Johnny Carson [TS]

00:15:53   where is now thanks to youtube they know [TS]

00:15:55   all of this stuff so they're sitting [TS]

00:15:57   there going a late-night talk show [TS]

00:16:00   there's so many of them who cares right [TS]

00:16:02   because they they can watch Seth Meyers [TS]

00:16:04   and Conan and colbert and James Corden I [TS]

00:16:07   don't know I didn't lie i did like yeah [TS]

00:16:10   but the fact that picky the only female [TS]

00:16:11   host on late-night TV that was a bad [TS]

00:16:13   really only clever thing about that i [TS]

00:16:15   love that that said it's also kind of [TS]

00:16:17   contextually hilarious given that [TS]

00:16:19   there's still no substantial female [TS]

00:16:20   Muppets beyond picky in jannah that [TS]

00:16:22   seems like a more more appropriate [TS]

00:16:24   context than a vaudeville theater right [TS]

00:16:26   i mean i feel like it's it's not it's [TS]

00:16:29   not the worst [TS]

00:16:30   what's the most popular show on NBC [TS]

00:16:33   america's got talent you could do that [TS]

00:16:35   kind of show with Muppets judging and [TS]

00:16:38   Muppets performing and and special [TS]

00:16:40   guests performing that would work just [TS]

00:16:43   fine it'll be in your pitch in five [TS]

00:16:44   years yeah when they have to reboot it [TS]

00:16:47   alright I I feel like we should now not [TS]

00:16:49   dwell on the ABCs Muppets let's go and [TS]

00:16:53   talk about the muppets that were [TS]

00:16:55   available in many other things films TV [TS]

00:16:58   series other things to talk about [TS]

00:17:00   wish we were should we start with that [TS]

00:17:04   should we start with that I guess we [TS]

00:17:05   should start with a muppet show should [TS]

00:17:06   we are or filled you want to talk about [TS]

00:17:08   the saturday night live season 1 Muppets [TS]

00:17:12   don't know [TS]

00:17:13   no no no nobody wants to talk about the [TS]

00:17:16   red that that wasn't old either [TS]

00:17:19   no it was very bad the muppet show so I [TS]

00:17:22   i have as I assume everybody has fond [TS]

00:17:24   memories of the muppet show i also have [TS]

00:17:26   a memory of saying that i wanted the [TS]

00:17:27   soundtrack to the muppet movie and my [TS]

00:17:30   mom bought me the soundtrack to the [TS]

00:17:31   muppet show which was not as good as the [TS]

00:17:32   Sun mother but but the the muppet show [TS]

00:17:37   can I just say I'm really frustrated by [TS]

00:17:39   the fact that this stuff is not widely [TS]

00:17:40   available online streaming i know there [TS]

00:17:43   i think i think there are dvds of it but [TS]

00:17:45   it's like I want the hot and cold [TS]

00:17:47   running Muppets man i want to [TS]

00:17:49   I want to be able to watch all those [TS]

00:17:50   classic muppet show episodes and I [TS]

00:17:52   believe they're nowhere right now I [TS]

00:17:54   wonder how much of that is the fact that [TS]

00:17:56   Disney owns it and disney tends to be [TS]

00:17:59   standing I i feel you know what it puts [TS]

00:18:03   out because they they want the big they [TS]

00:18:05   want the big money grab not the not the [TS]

00:18:08   constant flow of little money and just [TS]

00:18:10   who's buying dvds now right [TS]

00:18:12   well i also wonder about music rights [TS]

00:18:13   for some of these things too that maybe [TS]

00:18:15   yep because it seems like getting [TS]

00:18:17   clearance and all of the songs at all [TS]

00:18:19   the guests performed might be a bit [TS]

00:18:20   tricky so how was the muppet show the [TS]

00:18:22   introduction for everybody or were other [TS]

00:18:24   people introduced to the muppets in [TS]

00:18:25   other ways [TS]

00:18:26   I mean Sesame Street aside because i [TS]

00:18:28   can't ya a sesame street with Kermit you [TS]

00:18:31   know Kermit and big bird and [TS]

00:18:32   snuffleupagus actually when I was a [TS]

00:18:35   little kid watching the live a sad [TS]

00:18:37   Muppet story [TS]

00:18:38   oh no when I was a little hook and [TS]

00:18:40   watching the from Sesame Street I was I [TS]

00:18:42   was an only child at the time when I was [TS]

00:18:44   very little and say I thought that [TS]

00:18:47   Bernie were my best friends and I used [TS]

00:18:49   to talk to the television apparently I'm [TS]

00:18:51   told so just sit there and talking I [TS]

00:18:53   guess I thought they were talking back [TS]

00:18:54   to me and and one year my parents took [TS]

00:18:56   me to see Sesame Street Live which if [TS]

00:18:59   you don't know is a stage show that [TS]

00:19:01   travels around has you know big Muppets [TS]

00:19:03   onstage and size call it a lie with so [TS]

00:19:06   excited was gonna be the greatest night [TS]

00:19:08   of my life so so we went before the show [TS]

00:19:10   started some of the Muppets were roaming [TS]

00:19:12   around the audience and you know waving [TS]

00:19:14   to kids and shaking hands and star now [TS]

00:19:16   and and Ernie was walking past us you [TS]

00:19:19   know kind of kind of nearest US and I [TS]

00:19:21   called out to him because he was my best [TS]

00:19:23   friend in the whole wide world and was [TS]

00:19:25   like Ernie earning its me and he just [TS]

00:19:28   walked on and it was the saddest day of [TS]

00:19:32   my little life [TS]

00:19:33   hey yeah the show was not so great after [TS]

00:19:35   that I i know i still haven't quite [TS]

00:19:37   gotten over it so yeah that was my [TS]

00:19:39   introduction of the muppets was a sesame [TS]

00:19:41   street and then discovering they didn't [TS]

00:19:42   love me as much as I love them you walk [TS]

00:19:44   past when he heard you cry he went on [TS]

00:19:51   Queen would God's gonna answer letters [TS]

00:19:53   Erica okay so they're Sesame Street mean [TS]

00:19:58   right that's that that's how they get [TS]

00:19:59   you early as they get you early with the [TS]

00:20:01   sesame street I wasn't here [TS]

00:20:02   really confuses a small child is to my [TS]

00:20:04   current would be on both Sesame Street [TS]

00:20:05   in the muppet show because to me like [TS]

00:20:07   why did he abandoned his friends on [TS]

00:20:08   Sesame Street for these people was going [TS]

00:20:10   because I was like five or six at the [TS]

00:20:12   time it was terribly disjointed to [TS]

00:20:16   because I I are they replacing Burton no [TS]

00:20:18   no baby doing artwork [TS]

00:20:20   let me explain the market universe to [TS]

00:20:23   you Lisa get turned on the head can [TS]

00:20:25   America here we go guys [TS]

00:20:27   mm-hmm kerman lived on Sesame Street his [TS]

00:20:29   job was at the Muppet Theater which was [TS]

00:20:31   clearly in New York because of all the [TS]

00:20:33   big celebrities that would drop by at [TS]

00:20:36   the puppet theater and you know his his [TS]

00:20:39   newsman gig that was how he originally [TS]

00:20:41   made his his name for himself and then [TS]

00:20:44   he broadened out into being a variety [TS]

00:20:47   show host Melissa legitimate theater [TS]

00:20:49   yeah interesting theory and so that's [TS]

00:20:52   that it all makes sense when you think [TS]

00:20:54   of as a kid I was very confused by the [TS]

00:20:55   muppet show because I didn't have any [TS]

00:20:57   idea who any of the celebrities were now [TS]

00:20:59   that you know for me it was the show [TS]

00:21:02   that's on like saturday at four in the [TS]

00:21:04   afternoon it's just me watching it's not [TS]

00:21:06   the parents or anything like that [TS]

00:21:08   I I understand now that was made in [TS]

00:21:09   england and it was syndicated in the US [TS]

00:21:11   and perhaps in some markets in some [TS]

00:21:12   places maybe even in England it was [TS]

00:21:14   shown at a time when parents and [TS]

00:21:16   children might be watching it together [TS]

00:21:17   but to me I was just you know it was a [TS]

00:21:19   show i watched as a kid and I had no [TS]

00:21:21   idea who these grown-ups are to a point [TS]

00:21:23   that now whenever they show and then and [TS]

00:21:25   they always do some celebrity and say [TS]

00:21:28   hey they were on the Muppet Show and [TS]

00:21:29   i'll be like I have no idea i had no [TS]

00:21:31   idea the muppet show even though i've [TS]

00:21:33   seen every episode of The Muppet Show [TS]

00:21:34   because your kid you don't know who you [TS]

00:21:37   know these celebrities are you want to [TS]

00:21:38   start a muppet movie had no idea who Bob [TS]

00:21:39   Hope was or so you were Alice Cooper was [TS]

00:21:42   no but that was only because my parents [TS]

00:21:44   are in Wisconsin is that the John Denver [TS]

00:21:47   Muppet relationship which was a long and [TS]

00:21:50   printed unfruitful everybody was a [TS]

00:21:52   closeted Muppet that's what ya don't [TS]

00:21:54   know not a closeted not so closet now [TS]

00:21:56   he's young I mean everybody knew you [TS]

00:21:59   know but they didn't talk about it was [TS]

00:22:01   that new synthetic skin now instead of [TS]

00:22:03   felt Don't Ask Don't felt no it was that [TS]

00:22:06   deeply can because my mom is a John [TS]

00:22:08   Denver family I was a very small child [TS]

00:22:10   and so finally when he came a house like [TS]

00:22:12   okay if John Denver's on the muppets [TS]

00:22:13   then clearly this is ok [TS]

00:22:15   this is this is a safe space and then he [TS]

00:22:17   did a Christmas special that i still try [TS]

00:22:20   to find on youtube from time to time [TS]

00:22:22   because the twelve days of Christmas is [TS]

00:22:24   a genuinely funny Jim genuinely funny [TS]

00:22:26   takedown but I didn't like Jason I [TS]

00:22:30   didn't know these people were um I [TS]

00:22:31   didn't realize that Harry Belafonte [TS]

00:22:34   didn't stand a series of of what were [TS]

00:22:37   considered fairly radical songs i mean i [TS]

00:22:39   just really like the beat and it's not [TS]

00:22:43   like we go back and review clips and we [TS]

00:22:45   realized oh my gosh thats really dark [TS]

00:22:47   it's a symphony made of babies and their [TS]

00:22:49   change much but there but they're great [TS]

00:22:54   they're so funny [TS]

00:22:55   it's just that there's also a ton of [TS]

00:22:56   background jokes and that's another [TS]

00:22:58   thing that I feel is kind of you know [TS]

00:22:59   that the contrast between us the show on [TS]

00:23:02   ABC looks beautiful like the [TS]

00:23:03   cinematography is very crisp [TS]

00:23:04   oh yeah and it feels very modern and [TS]

00:23:07   very fresh and very expensive [TS]

00:23:09   I'm very impressed by the technical [TS]

00:23:11   aspect of the fact that it's not like a [TS]

00:23:13   fake documentary and sometimes they do [TS]

00:23:15   shots and I'm like wow that must have [TS]

00:23:16   been very hard to do because those are [TS]

00:23:19   puppets every i find myself wondering a [TS]

00:23:21   lot about the composition of the shots [TS]

00:23:23   but i miss the background details in the [TS]

00:23:25   doctor marginalia where you'd have like [TS]

00:23:27   three penguins time bow ties in the [TS]

00:23:29   background well there are some amazing [TS]

00:23:31   bits i would say in episode 2 of the ABC [TS]

00:23:34   series where especially sweetums is [TS]

00:23:36   doing something in the background see [TS]

00:23:38   focus and I don't even I wasn't even [TS]

00:23:40   paying attention to what was happening [TS]

00:23:41   in the foreground because I was like [TS]

00:23:43   what is Sweden two doing back there [TS]

00:23:45   there so there's a little bit of that I [TS]

00:23:46   think they're making the attempt but [TS]

00:23:47   it's harder with it technically yeah [TS]

00:23:49   where is the idea that baroque trying to [TS]

00:23:51   set dressing in the mothers show [TS]

00:23:53   especially that's like every little [TS]

00:23:55   corner of the muppet show had something [TS]

00:23:57   to pause for a second to tell you about [TS]

00:23:59   our sponsor if if if that's okay with [TS]

00:24:02   everybody feeling when you drink [TS]

00:24:04   encounter details untold is our sponsor [TS]

00:24:07   again and you know we're talking about [TS]

00:24:10   things that kids like like the macho and [TS]

00:24:12   and then we watched his kids and you [TS]

00:24:15   know there's a lot of good at Kids [TS]

00:24:17   Entertainment there's a lot of terrible [TS]

00:24:18   kids entertainment out there between [TS]

00:24:20   characters say map [TS]

00:24:22   say it say map I don't know what i'm [TS]

00:24:24   talking about that music lots of ads [TS]

00:24:28   that's not what you get with tails and [TS]

00:24:30   told tales and told as a nap it features [TS]

00:24:32   original episodic audio stories for [TS]

00:24:34   young children that's right I'm talking [TS]

00:24:35   about podcast for kids but there are [TS]

00:24:39   things that will not make the ears of [TS]

00:24:41   the parents believe there are horrible [TS]

00:24:43   squeaky voices and super annoying [TS]

00:24:45   characters say map [TS]

00:24:47   I'm absolutely no ads you can feel good [TS]

00:24:49   about kids listening every tale is [TS]

00:24:51   organized in seasons and episodes just [TS]

00:24:53   like TV shows there are new seasons and [TS]

00:24:55   new tales added regularly I I check this [TS]

00:24:58   out and I the one that caught my [TS]

00:25:00   interest was something called red bird [TS]

00:25:01   which is about a monster and I i think [TS]

00:25:04   it is it slight disappointment to his [TS]

00:25:06   parents because he's really bad at being [TS]

00:25:07   bad he's terrible at being terrible he's [TS]

00:25:09   like a you know he needs to work on his [TS]

00:25:11   monster game a little bit and it's very [TS]

00:25:12   sweet and funny and I've got a bunch of [TS]

00:25:14   other things they've got a got us a spy [TS]

00:25:16   sort of related show they've got a magic [TS]

00:25:19   treasure chest called trunkshow they've [TS]

00:25:22   got at the show involving a i'm abby [TS]

00:25:24   grudgingly friendly forest gnome you [TS]

00:25:26   know gnomes they are always if friendly [TS]

00:25:29   at all it is but grudgingly called [TS]

00:25:31   trouble with wishes there's a whole [TS]

00:25:32   bunch of different stories that you can [TS]

00:25:33   get on tails and told it's an app it's [TS]

00:25:35   free it comes loaded with the first [TS]

00:25:37   episode of every tale and then if you [TS]

00:25:39   find one you like you can go to the [TS]

00:25:41   parents own inside the app and buy a [TS]

00:25:42   season for just 2 99 so learn more about [TS]

00:25:46   tales are told and check out those [TS]

00:25:47   episodes for free and download the app [TS]

00:25:49   here's where you go tails untold dot-com [TS]

00:25:52   / and comfortable thank you two tails [TS]

00:25:54   untold for sponsoring this week's [TS]

00:25:56   episode with the incomparable I'm I'm [TS]

00:25:58   rather partial to the spy-1 myself hmm [TS]

00:26:00   very nice what we're talking about TV [TS]

00:26:03   shows because i also want to touch on [TS]

00:26:04   the Muppet movies because that's very [TS]

00:26:06   very important aspect of you must its [TS]

00:26:08   franchise i want to mention Muppets [TS]

00:26:09   tonight which aired on ABC in the [TS]

00:26:11   nineties people forget about the show [TS]

00:26:13   disney to maybe two films point disney [TS]

00:26:15   seems to have done a very good job of [TS]

00:26:16   burying the show it and us unfortunately [TS]

00:26:19   it seems now like its biggest claim to [TS]

00:26:22   fame is that that's where Pepe the prawn [TS]

00:26:24   was introduced and lambobo i believe ya [TS]

00:26:27   yes I will I again it was I haven't seen [TS]

00:26:30   it since it was on the nineties but i [TS]

00:26:31   loved it in the nineties there's [TS]

00:26:33   somebody is my mid-twenties I thought [TS]

00:26:35   Muppets tonight was a really great kind [TS]

00:26:37   of updated take on the Muppet Show and I [TS]

00:26:40   I thought it was great [TS]

00:26:41   I was very sad that it didn't last very [TS]

00:26:43   long and that we have not been able to [TS]

00:26:44   see it since then I thought it was [TS]

00:26:46   really great like the original it [TS]

00:26:47   managed to work in sitcom like running [TS]

00:26:50   stories later the episode while still [TS]

00:26:52   being able to do the things that the [TS]

00:26:54   muppets did best [TS]

00:26:55   yeah i'm told by the chatroom that it's [TS]

00:26:58   on youtube as with everything that's not [TS]

00:27:01   available anywhere by ABC didn't know [TS]

00:27:03   where to put it didn't fit with any of [TS]

00:27:05   the shows they had on at the time they [TS]

00:27:07   buried it on friday night with all the [TS]

00:27:09   full house and stuff about to get with [TS]

00:27:11   not tons of it not to be Erica at her [TS]

00:27:14   own game but I'm gonna I'm gonna make a [TS]

00:27:15   slight doctor who reference here in the [TS]

00:27:16   sense that in England I know because [TS]

00:27:18   doctor who is this [TS]

00:27:19   there's this concept of family [TS]

00:27:20   programming and it's not children's [TS]

00:27:22   programming and it's not adults [TS]

00:27:23   programming something for the whole [TS]

00:27:24   family to watch and put it on at seven [TS]

00:27:26   in the evening or 630 or something like [TS]

00:27:28   that and i think this is one of the [TS]

00:27:30   problems with the muppets in general and [TS]

00:27:31   we may be seeing it reflected in the [TS]

00:27:33   muppet show that's on the a B on on ABC [TS]

00:27:35   right now which is we kind of don't have [TS]

00:27:37   a place and Muppets tonight was exactly [TS]

00:27:39   that for the show that it's not like [TS]

00:27:41   your regular sitcom it is it does have [TS]

00:27:44   this kind of innocence enjoy about it a [TS]

00:27:45   little bit and I feel like maybe [TS]

00:27:47   American television or at least the [TS]

00:27:49   broadcast networks have no idea what to [TS]

00:27:51   do with something with that tone and [TS]

00:27:53   some of its tonight got lost because it [TS]

00:27:54   wasn't circle [TS]

00:27:55   yeah and I mean he was also a musket [TS]

00:27:58   strange late but again and then won [TS]

00:28:00   america's got talent has kinda I mean [TS]

00:28:03   it's still in full of adult jokes to and [TS]

00:28:06   and the things that fly over its head [TS]

00:28:08   but my kids love it and then we want [TS]

00:28:10   your best time ever which is I think [TS]

00:28:12   aiming for that kind of fun it that is [TS]

00:28:16   awful but when you have a reality show [TS]

00:28:19   is what you're going to say and maybe I [TS]

00:28:20   don't know maybe we need neil patrick [TS]

00:28:22   harris with Muppets maybe that will also [TS]

00:28:24   a muppet people know that Muppet yeah [TS]

00:28:27   and after every night from it when I was [TS]

00:28:30   little I I knew the muppets before the [TS]

00:28:33   muppet show because of sesame street but [TS]

00:28:34   also because I lived with my [TS]

00:28:37   grandparents my mom and I lived with my [TS]

00:28:38   grandparents were also moments they were [TS]

00:28:41   Muppets to well-balanced museum come on [TS]

00:28:43   and they but they watched everything [TS]

00:28:45   they watched all the Bob Hope specials [TS]

00:28:47   every every couple months on NBC and all [TS]

00:28:49   you know so i got the steady diet of who [TS]

00:28:52   all of these people were and i would [TS]

00:28:54   also get the the story wall they lived [TS]

00:28:56   in virginia in the fifties when Kermit [TS]

00:28:58   made his debut on salmon friends on the [TS]

00:29:00   local TV station i got the whole history [TS]

00:29:02   of government and Jim Henson and how he [TS]

00:29:05   became this thing that was on the Jimmy [TS]

00:29:07   Dean show with Ralph in the sixties and [TS]

00:29:09   you know all of this stuff so when the [TS]

00:29:11   muppet show came along was so of course [TS]

00:29:13   we're all going to sit and watch this [TS]

00:29:14   this is brilliant requested from the [TS]

00:29:16   chat room to also mention Fraggle Rock [TS]

00:29:18   I never saw Franco other mother doesn't [TS]

00:29:21   other models for it but I like the theme [TS]

00:29:23   song it's a very good things yes it is a [TS]

00:29:25   very catchy we didn't have HBO so I [TS]

00:29:28   absolutely miss the window for that [TS]

00:29:30   Fraggle Rock was not a good TV program [TS]

00:29:32   all right through your article we [TS]

00:29:34   mentioned it's okay [TS]

00:29:35   chatroom glad you're getting an allergy [TS]

00:29:40   any other thoughts about about other [TS]

00:29:42   Muppet Muppet TV shows and all that I [TS]

00:29:43   mean I just want to put in that shout [TS]

00:29:44   out from up its night my phone numbers [TS]

00:29:46   of it was sad when I received the jim [TS]

00:29:48   henson television our on NBC [TS]

00:29:52   no no everything's storytelling [TS]

00:29:54   restricted or the storytellers wonderful [TS]

00:29:57   i love i have have the complete series [TS]

00:29:59   understand that you can watch on netflix [TS]

00:30:01   or at least you could for a while [TS]

00:30:02   yeah the the jim henson television our [TS]

00:30:04   was like I think that was the last [TS]

00:30:06   project he worked on and it was it was [TS]

00:30:08   trying to blend Muppets with computer [TS]

00:30:13   animation and all these findings it's a [TS]

00:30:16   just a put a muppet in a blender talk [TS]

00:30:18   about the sad mother yeah it's it's it's [TS]

00:30:20   like mike nesmith elephant parts it's [TS]

00:30:22   weird right and it's hosted by kermit [TS]

00:30:25   and some other Muppet who has been wiped [TS]

00:30:29   from existence [TS]

00:30:30   I think his name was pixel or something [TS]

00:30:32   like that he had sort of like a freaky [TS]

00:30:34   I don't know he was Green and had things [TS]

00:30:37   coming out of his head and looked all [TS]

00:30:38   computery and it was odd i mean you [TS]

00:30:42   could look at it and go well that's [TS]

00:30:43   really creative stuff but it's not [TS]

00:30:47   interesting [TS]

00:30:48   I want to watch it but good job media [TS]

00:30:51   outlets being disappeared like it's some [TS]

00:30:52   sort of South American dictatorship [TS]

00:30:55   reminded all of the night like a team as [TS]

00:30:57   argon says chickens Kicks down your door [TS]

00:30:59   and throw a bag over the muppets had [TS]

00:31:01   never to be seen the galaxy gonzo as a [TS]

00:31:03   South American dick [TS]

00:31:04   and I think that would suit him that [TS]

00:31:05   would be brilliant gonzo and moon over [TS]

00:31:07   Parador i was seeking God's on the Vita [TS]

00:31:09   really [TS]

00:31:09   mm so um movie Muppet movies we've got [TS]

00:31:13   the right we got the range of them from [TS]

00:31:14   The Muppet movie through the muppets [TS]

00:31:17   take manhattan and then there are many [TS]

00:31:19   many other mother movies and then there [TS]

00:31:21   was the the jason segel Muppet movie and [TS]

00:31:24   its sequel Phil I know you have a lot of [TS]

00:31:29   opinions about movies with much would [TS]

00:31:31   you like to talk about that that now [TS]

00:31:34   well cher iiiiii I worry that i'm giving [TS]

00:31:37   the impression that I'm overly negative [TS]

00:31:39   on the muppets tonight with no Fraggle [TS]

00:31:41   Rock suck booing my I'm angry but you [TS]

00:31:45   know I think I have a certain idea of [TS]

00:31:49   what the muppets should be which was [TS]

00:31:51   fostered from the cauldron of the TV [TS]

00:31:53   show which was great i was allowed to [TS]

00:31:55   watch three TV shows each weekend [TS]

00:31:57   Wow and when I was a kid and one of them [TS]

00:32:00   was the muppet and over the over to the [TS]

00:32:03   other two happy days and there was this [TS]

00:32:09   really crummy game show I don't even [TS]

00:32:12   remember the name of it was called [TS]

00:32:13   all-star anything goes and I thought it [TS]

00:32:16   was a speed list celebrities competing [TS]

00:32:19   in this is it was the daredevil or a [TS]

00:32:20   double dare of its day [TS]

00:32:22   so point is to say almost refuse most [TS]

00:32:24   important one of those was the Muppets [TS]

00:32:26   Muppets was untouchable the others could [TS]

00:32:28   be negotiated but the muppets was [TS]

00:32:31   untouchable and the muppet movie of [TS]

00:32:33   course is is great it's brilliant it's a [TS]

00:32:36   terrific [TS]

00:32:37   it's one of the few origin stories that [TS]

00:32:39   actually uh nice works as a narrative it [TS]

00:32:42   seamlessly blends in the celebrities and [TS]

00:32:45   that it's not in there are a couple of [TS]

00:32:47   things like hey everyone its Bob oh but [TS]

00:32:49   for the most part you have steve martin [TS]

00:32:52   just playing a waiter and uh [TS]

00:32:55   Orson Welles / seals as a movie single a [TS]

00:32:58   studio head and all all sorts a did [TS]

00:33:01   Richard Pryor is in there selling [TS]

00:33:03   balloons of course who wouldn't put [TS]

00:33:05   Richard Pryor in a kids movie and 19 cm [TS]

00:33:10   is my wife my wife and I to this day [TS]

00:33:12   will reference the muppet movie I'm not [TS]

00:33:15   not a lot of week goes by where there [TS]

00:33:17   isn't a reference especially if there's [TS]

00:33:19   a fork in the road or there's a a place [TS]

00:33:22   when you're driving and you have to tell [TS]

00:33:24   somebody to bear left right frog we [TS]

00:33:27   still ended up my car there's also steve [TS]

00:33:28   martin's would you like to sniff the cap [TS]

00:33:31   yeah yeah so good that is again the [TS]

00:33:37   music the rear the rainbow then using a [TS]

00:33:39   little bit of your eye moving right [TS]

00:33:40   along as you say the soundtrack is [TS]

00:33:43   excellent there's only one song on there [TS]

00:33:45   i really don't care for but since I'm [TS]

00:33:48   you know but just unable to be negative [TS]

00:33:51   even when i've been wildly praiseful [TS]

00:33:54   yeah i like i like the great muppet [TS]

00:33:56   caper the great muppet caper is a fun [TS]

00:33:58   you know [TS]

00:33:59   oh man is that fun i would be my [TS]

00:34:02   favorite of the movies [TS]

00:34:04   oh my gosh i could go as I'm gonna be [TS]

00:34:06   there wasn't money when they have miss [TS]

00:34:08   piggy in the jail [TS]

00:34:09   oh it is a nice self-contained story and [TS]

00:34:11   I like that about it and it it is as [TS]

00:34:14   they say a caper we can argue about its [TS]

00:34:17   greatness but it is paper involving [TS]

00:34:19   Muppets so I i scrape it is really great [TS]

00:34:22   is Freddie paper involving Muppets this [TS]

00:34:24   is that the new movies feels [TS]

00:34:27   self-conscious in a way that the older [TS]

00:34:29   movies don't [TS]

00:34:30   yeah it's true because we watched um [TS]

00:34:32   what was the watch most recent as tina [TS]

00:34:34   fey's this as the Russian guard about [TS]

00:34:36   the most wanted weapons most wanted and [TS]

00:34:39   um that movie deeply upset our [TS]

00:34:41   four-year-old daughter [TS]

00:34:43   well all deeply as an adult I am amused [TS]

00:34:46   by the evil kermit the frog in [TS]

00:34:49   manufacturing already surveys i found [TS]

00:34:51   that funny as a child I would be deeply [TS]

00:34:54   disturbed the hazel soon as the first [TS]

00:34:55   she was she was terrified by the idea [TS]

00:34:57   that his friends wouldn't recognize him [TS]

00:35:00   yes is appalled at the idea that bad [TS]

00:35:02   guys would set up bad things to happen [TS]

00:35:04   to people who didn't deserve it or [TS]

00:35:05   Muppet didn't deserve it [TS]

00:35:07   and the the overall terror of things [TS]

00:35:10   happen to her friend Kermit completely [TS]

00:35:12   out with everything else and you know [TS]

00:35:14   again as an adult there was I enjoyed [TS]

00:35:15   the josh groban is the prisoner that's [TS]

00:35:17   kept in a box and he just sings and i [TS]

00:35:19   love i love the prison drama review i [TS]

00:35:21   thought that was hilarious especially [TS]

00:35:23   the Ray Liotta stuff um there's a lot of [TS]

00:35:26   you know that the detectives there are a [TS]

00:35:28   lot of bits that got close but it felt [TS]

00:35:32   like entertainment has made more for [TS]

00:35:33   grownups and in some ways and and again [TS]

00:35:36   as possible because i had an opportunity [TS]

00:35:37   to test drive to an actual child and I [TS]

00:35:40   was like wow this really doesn't work [TS]

00:35:42   for four-year old shit not work [TS]

00:35:44   let me tell you where the Muppet movies [TS]

00:35:45   started to go off the rails please do [TS]

00:35:47   but stick Manhattan [TS]

00:35:50   yep yep you know grill makes me ill Phil [TS]

00:35:52   okay that's a great great bit but yes it [TS]

00:35:55   is independent of that the problem with [TS]

00:35:58   muppets take manhattan is that unless [TS]

00:36:00   it-it-it wants to have its cake and eat [TS]

00:36:02   it too it wants to be this like little [TS]

00:36:04   self-contained story like the great [TS]

00:36:05   muppet caper but then it's all no no [TS]

00:36:07   this is Canada this is how the muppets [TS]

00:36:09   met ignore the movie we made six years [TS]

00:36:12   earlier or eight years original here [TS]

00:36:14   yeah yeah I'm not even ya know they all [TS]

00:36:17   went to college together and then they [TS]

00:36:19   hit the big time and yeah Kermit and [TS]

00:36:21   Miss Piggy really married so there you [TS]

00:36:24   go [TS]

00:36:24   oh and we've we've made adorable baby [TS]

00:36:26   Muppets and that's going to be a cartoon [TS]

00:36:28   now [TS]

00:36:28   Oh No yes don't don't speak of a mother [TS]

00:36:31   babies so I did he speak of it sometimes [TS]

00:36:34   doesn't exist [TS]

00:36:35   yeah Lisa Lisa and I watched out of the [TS]

00:36:38   the the muppets take manhattan about a [TS]

00:36:41   year-and-a-half ago I want to say and it [TS]

00:36:44   it doesn't even have the advantage of [TS]

00:36:46   holding up well it's the Sun this is the [TS]

00:36:49   songs aren't all that good the the apart [TS]

00:36:51   from both of the advertising frogs again [TS]

00:36:54   a brilliant concept [TS]

00:36:56   ah mm admit but mostly most the show [TS]

00:37:01   isn't very good and I think that's where [TS]

00:37:02   they really began to take their eye off [TS]

00:37:04   the ball with Kermit where they kind of [TS]

00:37:08   made Kermit overly sentimental uh no my [TS]

00:37:12   friends o.o know in that and every movie [TS]

00:37:16   since then has sort of amp that up where [TS]

00:37:18   cut with [TS]

00:37:19   worker but sort of keeps becoming more [TS]

00:37:21   and more of a sad sack and 22 now where [TS]

00:37:25   it's the natural extension [TS]

00:37:26   well of course someone launching a new [TS]

00:37:28   TV show would be welcome it's sad it's [TS]

00:37:31   it says so here in the movies and I [TS]

00:37:36   think that's if you want to chart the [TS]

00:37:38   point where the muppets sort of lost [TS]

00:37:40   their way and stop being the muppets as [TS]

00:37:43   we knew resign you and love them it [TS]

00:37:45   would be the movie [TS]

00:37:46   Erica I heard you agreeing about that [TS]

00:37:48   one yeah actually I i was so unimpressed [TS]

00:37:51   with the muppets take manhattan but [TS]

00:37:53   that's actually the last movie that I [TS]

00:37:54   even bother to watch [TS]

00:37:55   I don't think anyone is the first Jason [TS]

00:37:57   Segel one but nothing between there [TS]

00:38:00   oh god every time someone mentions that [TS]

00:38:02   movie it's like they're hitting me it's [TS]

00:38:04   slipping the the muppets the jason segel [TS]

00:38:06   moving [TS]

00:38:06   I hate that movie so much no I enjoyed [TS]

00:38:09   it [TS]

00:38:09   I I will see what I like bret mckenzie [TS]

00:38:12   these songs in both movies [TS]

00:38:14   yes the songs that i like to slide [TS]

00:38:16   that's the only thing but look you can [TS]

00:38:19   its Walter it's stupid water won't use a [TS]

00:38:22   generic muppet you know it's like it's [TS]

00:38:24   like it's like imagine that the that [TS]

00:38:27   movie that you introduced a Walther [TS]

00:38:28   imagine that's a rubber sheet and Walter [TS]

00:38:30   is the tiny ball that weighs [TS]

00:38:32   approximately 50 pounds and rolls all [TS]

00:38:34   over the river she destroyed it in every [TS]

00:38:35   single direction you know what I [TS]

00:38:38   actually had no idea who you were [TS]

00:38:39   talking about when you said Walter so [TS]

00:38:41   that tells you exactly and I'm still not [TS]

00:38:43   sure he's a blanket but he is but he's [TS]

00:38:45   the muppet that is what Jason seagulls [TS]

00:38:48   childhood friend who is a more sibling [TS]

00:38:50   it's a rigorous moving others that did [TS]

00:38:54   that made absolutely zero impression of [TS]

00:38:56   me but there's a bit of the rundown [TS]

00:38:57   theater and they got to bring it back [TS]

00:38:59   and then there's this little bad [TS]

00:39:00   animators and I thought there work I [TS]

00:39:02   i'll say i'll say that um that what I [TS]

00:39:05   got out of that that film is that Jason [TS]

00:39:07   Segel truly loves the Muppets yes [TS]

00:39:09   and-and-and Muppets Most Wanted which I [TS]

00:39:12   thought was fine and had some funny bits [TS]

00:39:15   in it it felt like the migratory sequel [TS]

00:39:17   but this this did feel like a little bit [TS]

00:39:19   of a labor of love even though yes [TS]

00:39:21   Walter is problematic because he is not [TS]

00:39:24   anymore but we've ever seen before and [TS]

00:39:26   then we spend an awful lot of time with [TS]

00:39:27   him and he does nothing that's [TS]

00:39:28   interesting [TS]

00:39:29   he doesn't serve a purpose he's totally [TS]

00:39:31   the Mary Sue [TS]

00:39:32   jason segel yeah that's your Jason wants [TS]

00:39:35   to be like the genius behind the muppets [TS]

00:39:37   is that all of them are avatars of [TS]

00:39:39   different aspects of the human character [TS]

00:39:41   in some way shape or form carbon is [TS]

00:39:43   persistence and optimism and scooters [TS]

00:39:46   conscientiousness and gonzo is [TS]

00:39:48   alienation and sam the eagle is rigid [TS]

00:39:50   adherence to a code seller Waldorf are [TS]

00:39:52   your are your inner critics like every [TS]

00:39:55   one of the animal is the agent of chaos [TS]

00:39:57   yeah exactly is your ear he is the [TS]

00:39:59   raging in you Lucille America you need [TS]

00:40:02   an agent of chaos don't you don't you [TS]

00:40:04   just you really do I feel action resumed [TS]

00:40:07   royalties but first let's you know let's [TS]

00:40:12   make this the man said about pops his [TS]

00:40:14   pops tell me about pops you say this is [TS]

00:40:17   your a different building right now yeah [TS]

00:40:19   that's my point is is that with the [TS]

00:40:23   original number ensemble everyone then [TS]

00:40:25   reaches out and touches something in you [TS]

00:40:26   and and it becomes a more universal [TS]

00:40:28   experience and Walters experience is [TS]

00:40:29   nearly incomprehensible like it [TS]

00:40:31   literally is the embodiment of one of [TS]

00:40:33   the persons fandom and I'm glad jason [TS]

00:40:35   segel likes the muppets it's good to [TS]

00:40:37   like things it's good for some things [TS]

00:40:39   you like but that doesn't mean they're [TS]

00:40:42   good [TS]

00:40:42   I i think that the two problems with the [TS]

00:40:44   the muppets reboot was Walter as we've [TS]

00:40:48   established and it it's it it indulges [TS]

00:40:52   in a self-congratulatory nostalgia that [TS]

00:40:55   doesn't serve the material well and well [TS]

00:40:58   again it to me sitting in the theater [TS]

00:41:00   with the kids [TS]

00:41:01   it did not feel plausible that this is [TS]

00:41:05   how Carmen would end up in the beginning [TS]

00:41:07   of the movie he would not become a [TS]

00:41:09   reclusive Citizen Kane type in his [TS]

00:41:11   mansion remembering all his his hazy [TS]

00:41:13   sentimental memories of all the friends [TS]

00:41:15   who have left him he would it still be [TS]

00:41:18   making he would still be making art he [TS]

00:41:21   would still be doing a show or if your [TS]

00:41:22   error if you're going to do that go go [TS]

00:41:24   in the direction we're just taking over [TS]

00:41:27   the top where he's grown a crazy Howard [TS]

00:41:29   Hughes bear and he's wearing a Kleenex [TS]

00:41:32   boxes on his flippers and and his [TS]

00:41:34   slippers on of crazy long nails and [TS]

00:41:35   click every time this is melted and [TS]

00:41:38   Kermit yeah so I do i do have to say [TS]

00:41:40   that we're hearing some of the criticism [TS]

00:41:42   of there [TS]

00:41:43   and hearing some of the criticism of the [TS]

00:41:44   ABC series III do keep thinking that a [TS]

00:41:48   lot of this comes back to people having [TS]

00:41:51   childhood conceptions of what the [TS]

00:41:52   markets are and what they aren't and [TS]

00:41:54   being unwilling to see other [TS]

00:41:56   interpretations of it that don't match [TS]

00:41:58   exactly what their childhood and i'm not [TS]

00:41:59   saying that that's necessarily bad but [TS]

00:42:01   I'm saying that this is the difficult [TS]

00:42:03   situation the muppets as a franchise [TS]

00:42:06   find themselves in is that all of us are [TS]

00:42:08   judging them based on our are misty [TS]

00:42:10   water-colored memories of children [TS]

00:42:12   growing up with the Muppets and then [TS]

00:42:14   when somebody tries to put them in a [TS]

00:42:15   different context it's very easy for [TS]

00:42:17   somebody to say current wouldn't do that [TS]

00:42:20   yeah and-and-and you know David's Kermit [TS]

00:42:23   wouldn't do that is obviously different [TS]

00:42:24   from jason segel is Kermit wouldn't do [TS]

00:42:27   that [TS]

00:42:27   and therein lies i think a problem with [TS]

00:42:30   the whole thing is that is that you're [TS]

00:42:31   fighting against that's pretty powerful [TS]

00:42:32   thing to fight against I I could take it [TS]

00:42:35   if Kermit had that sense of joy if [TS]

00:42:37   Kermit were true to himself [TS]

00:42:39   you can do anything with him I don't [TS]

00:42:41   care where you set him but in that he's [TS]

00:42:44   thoroughly depressed i mean i've really [TS]

00:42:46   liked puppets from outer space which [TS]

00:42:48   yeah I'm space i was fine wherein gonzo [TS]

00:42:50   is revealed finally to be an alien let [TS]

00:42:53   me throw the flag here that the muppets [TS]

00:42:55   nineties movies which a lot of people do [TS]

00:42:57   not like I actually think her okay [TS]

00:42:59   and because i think they take the right [TS]

00:43:02   idea of let's take an existing story and [TS]

00:43:05   throw the muppets into it so of course [TS]

00:43:07   my treasure island get a christmas carol [TS]

00:43:11   Christmas ceremony is gonna be a Robert [TS]

00:43:13   barley the carpet permits going to be [TS]

00:43:15   God Cratchit and Jacob the Waldorf and [TS]

00:43:18   Statler going to be both to Jacob Marley [TS]

00:43:22   sure why not take it then Robert Martin [TS]

00:43:24   yeah and it's a bob marley from Roger [TS]

00:43:27   that flies right it has the kids it's [TS]

00:43:28   great though [TS]

00:43:29   yeah beautiful job and you know that [TS]

00:43:32   there are problems and flaws with the [TS]

00:43:34   movies but i like the fact that they're [TS]

00:43:36   actually taking uh Muppet characters and [TS]

00:43:40   and doing something with them other than [TS]

00:43:42   modernizing them to not very good effect [TS]

00:43:45   and of course Muppets and space is a fun [TS]

00:43:47   little picture you know similar similar [TS]

00:43:50   to the pretty good muppet caper where [TS]

00:43:52   you it's nice little self-contained [TS]

00:43:54   story [TS]

00:43:56   that incorporates celebrity cameos very [TS]

00:43:59   well I'm a comic book readers i'm used [TS]

00:44:01   two characters constantly being recast [TS]

00:44:04   rewritten put in situations that they [TS]

00:44:06   weren't 30 years ago [TS]

00:44:07   yeah so you know I I understand what [TS]

00:44:10   you're saying Jason with maybe we are [TS]

00:44:11   reacting because it's bumping up against [TS]

00:44:13   our conception of what the Muppets were [TS]

00:44:15   like when we were children and I think [TS]

00:44:17   you know that's why I that is one of the [TS]

00:44:20   reasons why I react so strongly but part [TS]

00:44:23   of it is also if I just don't enjoy it [TS]

00:44:25   for the sake of its not doing what I [TS]

00:44:26   think it should do then that's going to [TS]

00:44:28   be part of it to you know again [TS]

00:44:30   um with muppets most wanted a lot of [TS]

00:44:32   funny parts of the movie totally not [TS]

00:44:34   suitable for small people and so I was [TS]

00:44:36   kind of confused as to who the audience [TS]

00:44:38   for that is supposed to be um that said [TS]

00:44:40   the way he says map its and has to keep [TS]

00:44:42   practicing is really yes I wanted an [TS]

00:44:45   actual yeah no yeah maybe not good for [TS]

00:44:48   kids like 4i start the world's most evil [TS]

00:44:50   like the fact that the world's most evil [TS]

00:44:51   criminals a frog [TS]

00:44:53   yeah suddenly the muppets has become [TS]

00:44:56   something for 30-year old hipsters as [TS]

00:44:58   apart as opposed to something general [TS]

00:45:00   history you're only 30 and 40 year-old [TS]

00:45:02   hipsters can enjoy with our children [TS]

00:45:04   with their is it forward special [TS]

00:45:07   beverages it's alright [TS]

00:45:09   uh-uh so we've got some we've we've got [TS]

00:45:12   lots of opinions about Muppet movies [TS]

00:45:14   that there will be we had to pick one [TS]

00:45:16   that's the definitive is at the muppet [TS]

00:45:18   movie [TS]

00:45:19   it says they're so right in the title [TS]

00:45:20   friend yes haha yeah as much fun as the [TS]

00:45:25   other ones are it's not called a muppet [TS]

00:45:27   movie it's pure it is pure it's the [TS]

00:45:31   purest distillation of who the Muppets [TS]

00:45:33   are all right that's so that's that's [TS]

00:45:36   that's what we're going to say if you [TS]

00:45:37   are all in a world [TS]

00:45:38   word to the wise avoid the [TS]

00:45:39   direct-to-video Muppet pictures the very [TS]

00:45:43   member muppet christmas movie and the [TS]

00:45:44   muppet wizard of oz yeah permits swampy [TS]

00:45:48   your permit swap years old Lloyd that [TS]

00:45:51   one like no like it contains poison [TS]

00:45:53   because that is not a good production i [TS]

00:45:56   am up a classic theater also falls into [TS]

00:45:58   that category apparently according to [TS]

00:46:00   haven't heard of any of these and I'm [TS]

00:46:02   okay with that the direct-to-video the [TS]

00:46:04   directive video stuff is garbage i [TS]

00:46:06   believe that I I don't want to blame the [TS]

00:46:08   Germans but i think this was when they [TS]

00:46:09   were going [TS]

00:46:10   by the Germans ah purpose mom all right [TS]

00:46:12   there the two teeth the two TV movies [TS]

00:46:14   The Muppet Christmas moving them up [TS]

00:46:15   wizard of oz both directed by Kirk [TS]

00:46:17   Thatcher you may know him as the guy who [TS]

00:46:20   gives mr. Spock the finger in Star Trek [TS]

00:46:22   for the TV movie was not bad the [TS]

00:46:24   Christmas TV movie was not bad alright [TS]

00:46:26   got it got it got a little bit weird and [TS]

00:46:28   religiously at the end but i don't think [TS]

00:46:30   we have any money these guys credit [TS]

00:46:32   though because one of the things that [TS]

00:46:33   the muppet conglomerate corporation has [TS]

00:46:36   done right is they figured out really [TS]

00:46:37   early on they could use YouTube to like [TS]

00:46:40   supplement and extend the brand as it [TS]

00:46:42   were like they use a lot of market only [TS]

00:46:44   clip like the youtube mix ups and gone [TS]

00:46:46   up like the Bohemian Rhapsody aurorae do [TS]

00:46:49   those are your beaker and you know it i [TS]

00:46:51   was impressed that somebody there early [TS]

00:46:54   on said you know it doesn't have to be a [TS]

00:46:55   half-hour show it doesn't have to do [TS]

00:46:57   some more thinking about DVD sales this [TS]

00:46:58   can like they seem to understand viral [TS]

00:47:00   video in a in a fundamental in early way [TS]

00:47:03   and they seem to recognize the appeal of [TS]

00:47:04   remix culture so I think it's what I [TS]

00:47:08   find frustrating about the current show [TS]

00:47:09   is there are obviously smart people who [TS]

00:47:11   do creative and funny things and can [TS]

00:47:13   connect with an audience when they want [TS]

00:47:15   to and I just don't understand what [TS]

00:47:16   they're doing the show [TS]

00:47:17   well that if the TV show had just [TS]

00:47:19   brought a fraction of the creativity [TS]

00:47:22   that goes into some of those YouTube [TS]

00:47:23   clips we we wouldn't have spent the [TS]

00:47:25   first 15 minutes of the podcast [TS]

00:47:27   bellyaching [TS]

00:47:28   yeah although i will maintain that I [TS]

00:47:30   feel like that bad that the ABC show is [TS]

00:47:31   saveable and then like I said before I'm [TS]

00:47:34   not sure they think that it needs to be [TS]

00:47:35   saved and so i'm not sure i don't think [TS]

00:47:37   they do anything about it but I feel [TS]

00:47:39   like their clothes like a few changes in [TS]

00:47:43   tone could probably bring it around to [TS]

00:47:45   being successful like your face wasn't [TS]

00:47:48   super funny and absurd [TS]

00:47:49   yeah just making a little more [TS]

00:47:50   optimistic and making I mean honestly I [TS]

00:47:53   let me talk about a Parks and Rec here [TS]

00:47:55   right [TS]

00:47:56   the muppets feels like the first season [TS]

00:47:58   of Parks and Rec where Leslie Knope is [TS]

00:48:00   is is miserable [TS]

00:48:02   she's awful in the first season and then [TS]

00:48:03   they like Oh what if we made our likable [TS]

00:48:05   and I feel like that's a little bit like [TS]

00:48:07   cold carbons p is crushed and his soul [TS]

00:48:09   is being crushed he's going to be he's [TS]

00:48:11   going to baking for death with Kermit [TS]

00:48:13   was happier [TS]

00:48:14   maybe we would maybe that would do it [TS]

00:48:16   and it's like it's not that far away it [TS]

00:48:18   so you could you've got the Muppets and [TS]

00:48:20   you seem to know how to use them comedic [TS]

00:48:22   Lee to a certain extent [TS]

00:48:24   it's just you're making us really sad [TS]

00:48:26   yeah one and you know thinking of the [TS]

00:48:28   youtube viral videos maybe if you want [TS]

00:48:32   to appeal to the the current culture [TS]

00:48:34   maybe it should be about the [TS]

00:48:35   behind-the-scenes of making viral videos [TS]

00:48:37   for YouTube thing you know that's more [TS]

00:48:40   applicable to today the overkill of [TS]

00:48:42   late-night shows i think is just you [TS]

00:48:45   know icic piggy talking in an interview [TS]

00:48:48   setting with the New York City skyline [TS]

00:48:50   behind her and it doesn't really aside [TS]

00:48:52   from being a puppet [TS]

00:48:54   it doesn't really seem any different [TS]

00:48:56   from any of the other shows she's [TS]

00:48:58   probably be like the host of the daily [TS]

00:48:59   show but the problem is they want to [TS]

00:49:01   find a way to shoehorn in celebrity [TS]

00:49:02   cameos well I don't remember also a [TS]

00:49:05   muppet to travel awesome up another [TS]

00:49:08   viral video idea would allow them to do [TS]

00:49:11   kind of the the musical numbers just [TS]

00:49:14   that mean the old show so very [TS]

00:49:15   interesting what in that experience will [TS]

00:49:17   be quick in the first episode gonzo [TS]

00:49:20   pitches a sketch called dancing with the [TS]

00:49:22   Czar's yes yes guys beautiful you know [TS]

00:49:27   it's a funny little play on words but [TS]

00:49:28   the old Muppet Show would have actually [TS]

00:49:29   shown the sketch president yeah just [TS]

00:49:32   have got so talking about Benghazi would [TS]

00:49:34   come in dressed as like a rucksack [TS]

00:49:37   yeah exactly and and then be like no no [TS]

00:49:39   we cut that wasn't that good me like a [TS]

00:49:41   man and then he'd like to a little kick [TS]

00:49:43   dance on the way out [TS]

00:49:44   yeah and you see actually like a bunch [TS]

00:49:46   of people dressed as contact with swords [TS]

00:49:48   on the background the wood i was going [TS]

00:49:50   to say that for chickens cos x because [TS]

00:49:53   contact chickens that's funny [TS]

00:49:55   the show is often compared to 30 rock [TS]

00:49:56   and one of 30 Rock's great things which [TS]

00:50:00   just show you up a peek at the terrible [TS]

00:50:03   sketch and you know he's got acid by the [TS]

00:50:06   way also a muppet [TS]

00:50:07   yes yes here if you didn't Liz Lemon [TS]

00:50:10   also him up so we got a little bit of [TS]

00:50:14   time left and I thought that maybe I [TS]

00:50:17   would do something crazy which is an [TS]

00:50:21   impromptu puppet draft totally [TS]

00:50:24   unexpected Jason none of my guests are [TS]

00:50:27   prepared for this [TS]

00:50:28   I just made it up like half an hour ago [TS]

00:50:30   and yet here we are [TS]

00:50:32   I would like us to draft some favorite [TS]

00:50:34   Muppet as a way of talking about some of [TS]

00:50:36   the great character [TS]

00:50:37   because that that's really what the [TS]

00:50:38   Muppets are all about is these great [TS]

00:50:40   characters is it is an ensemble of [TS]

00:50:42   characters like liking it [TS]

00:50:44   Lisa to comic book universe and all that [TS]

00:50:47   it's not that far off [TS]

00:50:48   I mean there there's my floor we had a [TS]

00:50:50   we had those davidson on a muppet there [TS]

00:50:53   there's a what phil was talking about [TS]

00:50:54   about is it in canon or not i mean the [TS]

00:50:56   the the who these characters are is very [TS]

00:50:59   important to to the the entire idea here [TS]

00:51:01   so we're going to a muppet draft very [TS]

00:51:03   quickly lightning round it's all [TS]

00:51:05   lightning round Lisa you get to go first [TS]

00:51:07   well who's your first Muppet do beakers [TS]

00:51:11   and Bunsen honeydew comes a pack one [TS]

00:51:13   market for customers [TS]

00:51:15   yes Phil Phil I know your film you gotta [TS]

00:51:18   come up as a muppet if they're all on [TS]

00:51:20   the same stick they could be like one [TS]

00:51:23   Muppet like it's like my so don't ask [TS]

00:51:25   Tom felt Jason yeah it's um well then I [TS]

00:51:29   guess I'm gonna have to go Indiana's [TS]

00:51:30   first and then hope for the best light [TS]

00:51:32   around wow oh well man like yeah enjoyed [TS]

00:51:37   you pick because one of my favorite [TS]

00:51:39   running gags in all of the movies is [TS]

00:51:40   when they're having the conversations [TS]

00:51:42   and cast everyone dies down just as [TS]

00:51:44   Genesis thinks they'll be like so what [TS]

00:51:46   if i was walking naked on the beach man [TS]

00:51:48   and then she finally notices that from [TS]

00:51:49   super quiet it's just a really funny [TS]

00:51:51   non-sequitur i love that button every [TS]

00:51:53   single in the nineteen eighties movies [TS]

00:51:55   anyway [TS]

00:51:56   Erica picture Muppet i'm going to go [TS]

00:51:59   through off the dog [TS]

00:52:00   oh one of my favorites he not only is [TS]

00:52:04   you a musician but he's just he's got [TS]

00:52:06   sort of that he seems very [TS]

00:52:08   matter-of-fact about things but sort of [TS]

00:52:09   a dry deadpan humor but then every once [TS]

00:52:12   in a while he just you know does [TS]

00:52:13   something that's really wacky and he's [TS]

00:52:14   just got that goofy green just love it [TS]

00:52:17   it's not that he's got that bartender [TS]

00:52:18   quality to you to pour out your soul to [TS]

00:52:20   walk the dog and it in a way and I know [TS]

00:52:22   that they have it but it seems like [TS]

00:52:23   they've kind of retired him some [TS]

00:52:25   tensions death because incident really [TS]

00:52:27   even more so than Kermit the Frog Hanson [TS]

00:52:29   really had him yelled yeah yeah bill [TS]

00:52:33   will pick them up it [TS]

00:52:34   gonzo gun so I love guns oh yeah I love [TS]

00:52:40   everything about gonzo and I think [TS]

00:52:41   actually gonzo is held held up pretty [TS]

00:52:44   well in the ABC show because he's it's [TS]

00:52:46   still you know his nuts and it's still [TS]

00:52:48   the same ground that weird and [TS]

00:52:50   and it is the same guy he's a weirdo and [TS]

00:52:52   he loves chicken's you know gonzo David [TS]

00:52:57   pick a muppet well ralph was my first [TS]

00:52:59   choice guns was my 2nd trace will go [TS]

00:53:00   with Carmen yeah [TS]

00:53:02   current what can we say Kermit is the [TS]

00:53:05   definitive Muppet your it's amazing that [TS]

00:53:07   he felt a number for David now while I [TS]

00:53:09   know I know I was waiting for you I [TS]

00:53:11   figured all no one's gonna picture but [TS]

00:53:13   so also that way to put a pic was like [TS]

00:53:16   well Ralph yeah I've had died field and [TS]

00:53:18   empathy towards our health and and gonzo [TS]

00:53:20   I kind of him goofy like I'm so at times [TS]

00:53:24   but Kermit i am i've always sympathized [TS]

00:53:26   with because I make stuff and I put [TS]

00:53:29   stuff together and let's put on a show [TS]

00:53:30   and but again it's the join the optimism [TS]

00:53:33   and yeah for returned one I was given a [TS]

00:53:36   a Kermit the Frog hand puppet which i [TS]

00:53:38   still have I'm looking at him right now [TS]

00:53:40   I think I think Kermit is just so deeply [TS]

00:53:43   entwined with my psyche that I didn't [TS]

00:53:45   even think of picking him like I don't [TS]

00:53:47   think of him as a muppet he's just [TS]

00:53:48   Kermit he's a current I get that now my [TS]

00:53:52   problems i like the team's well yeah [TS]

00:53:55   yeah you might have to work on that [TS]

00:53:57   oh i didn't i'm not gonna draft him but [TS]

00:53:59   I didn't mention the best new Muppet [TS]

00:54:01   introduced in the jason segal movie and [TS]

00:54:04   the following movie is a tease robot i [TS]

00:54:07   love you bro but i'm not going to pick a [TS]

00:54:09   these robot here I'm going I'm going to [TS]

00:54:11   pick sam sam the eagle get pic uh yeah [TS]

00:54:15   and there is there is a joke [TS]

00:54:17   what is it in its I can't even remember [TS]

00:54:21   what is in there there is which was [TS]

00:54:24   visited them it's not a man i can [TS]

00:54:26   remember there is a joking them in a [TS]

00:54:28   movie or TV show I can't remember which [TS]

00:54:29   one it is now where there is an extended [TS]

00:54:31   bit that is increasingly weird and at [TS]

00:54:34   some point they just cut to sandy Eagle [TS]

00:54:36   who is shaking his head and since is [TS]

00:54:38   nothing sacred and they cut back and i [TS]

00:54:42   cannot literally cannot remember [TS]

00:54:43   anything more about anything about that [TS]

00:54:45   other than that Sam the Eagle is product [TS]

00:54:47   and to comment and some other characters [TS]

00:54:50   do on the action and in in the ABC [TS]

00:54:52   series he is the head of standards and [TS]

00:54:56   practices for the network which is a [TS]

00:54:57   funny joke although he was Bill used in [TS]

00:55:00   the pilot any one of my favorite [TS]

00:55:02   recurring bits from the first season is [TS]

00:55:04   he would he would always be brought out [TS]

00:55:06   to introduce the two singers i was a [TS]

00:55:09   dick Endora or wayne and wanda wayne and [TS]

00:55:11   wanda i knew it was a and he would [TS]

00:55:14   always come to to introduce it because [TS]

00:55:16   we're bringing class to the show now and [TS]

00:55:18   of course the songs would go [TS]

00:55:20   disastrously and and each subsequent [TS]

00:55:23   introduction he'd be more trepidatious [TS]

00:55:25   about doing it out that was a good bit [TS]

00:55:27   with see ya are for the second for the [TS]

00:55:30   second round you can pick you can pick [TS]

00:55:32   groups [TS]

00:55:33   Oh couple of weeks ago we had a stellar [TS]

00:55:38   in waldorf ya know well that was [TS]

00:55:41   literally I I didn't want to force [TS]

00:55:43   somebody to pick Statler or Waldorf yeah [TS]

00:55:46   you pick Sally you get water for free [TS]

00:55:48   that's my brother and I used to do their [TS]

00:55:50   bits after we watch the show together I [TS]

00:55:52   think Stalin Walter come off better than [TS]

00:55:54   any other characters in the ABC series [TS]

00:55:56   yeah because my just sit in the audience [TS]

00:55:58   because the crystals all over their [TS]

00:56:00   truest to their their original selves [TS]

00:56:02   and they fall asleep at one point [TS]

00:56:04   perspective voice like that's Paris leaf [TS]

00:56:06   it going on each other ya know they're [TS]

00:56:08   just they're just great i make me happy [TS]

00:56:10   every time I see them so startling where [TS]

00:56:12   the most lovable hecklers ever they are [TS]

00:56:15   mmm Erica pick another Muppet I'm gonna [TS]

00:56:18   go to animal i guess as you later on [TS]

00:56:21   prob [TS]

00:56:22   he was just goofy and then um my my [TS]

00:56:25   longtime roommate and very close friend [TS]

00:56:27   wendy is a drummer so I purchased a an [TS]

00:56:30   animal with a drum set toy for her a [TS]

00:56:33   long time ago which is just been sort of [TS]

00:56:35   like a bonding thing between the two of [TS]

00:56:37   us ever since so yeah love animal all [TS]

00:56:40   right Phil pick them up it [TS]

00:56:42   well since we can pick teams now which [TS]

00:56:43   is a boy rule i'm gonna take a Bunsen [TS]

00:56:49   honeydew and beaker good yeah there's [TS]

00:56:52   anything you need your physical comedy [TS]

00:56:53   speaker is even without dr. Bunsen [TS]

00:56:56   honeydew beaker is fantastic and there [TS]

00:56:58   is a good stand alone there is that [TS]

00:56:59   scene again i'm going to pick out like [TS]

00:57:02   little bits that are good [TS]

00:57:03   there's a scene in the second episode of [TS]

00:57:04   the ABC series where we're piggy is nice [TS]

00:57:07   to beaker and you can see that beaker it [TS]

00:57:11   had your second explode because he's [TS]

00:57:13   just pondering what [TS]

00:57:14   hey he is going to be horribly horribly [TS]

00:57:16   mutilated and nothing happens and it's [TS]

00:57:19   really funny because we know the history [TS]

00:57:20   of all the things that the effects are [TS]

00:57:23   sadly temporary there's a funny little [TS]

00:57:26   bit in the largely forgettable christmas [TS]

00:57:30   movie for that was made for NBC where [TS]

00:57:33   Bunsen honeydew is giving an explanation [TS]

00:57:37   because this river [TS]

00:57:39   well beaker I think you have a beautiful [TS]

00:57:41   mind too when i do that to each other [TS]

00:57:45   all the time it's my favorite Meryl bits [TS]

00:57:47   Mimi one of the things that bothered me [TS]

00:57:51   the most about the new Muppet Show was [TS]

00:57:54   the the part where dr. Bunsen honeydew [TS]

00:57:56   tases speaker just shut shut everybody [TS]

00:57:59   on that I I always as I love the their [TS]

00:58:02   duo but i like that it because always [TS]

00:58:04   getting tortured sort of in the name of [TS]

00:58:06   the shop with us right [TS]

00:58:08   it's never intentional and it's never [TS]

00:58:09   means press exactly well you know you [TS]

00:58:12   always think that the Bunsen honeydew [TS]

00:58:13   he's giggling underneath for sure but [TS]

00:58:16   his breast and that joke is a perfect [TS]

00:58:19   example that the people doing the TV [TS]

00:58:20   show they know the words but they don't [TS]

00:58:22   know the music now [TS]

00:58:24   yeah thank you David pick them up at [TS]

00:58:26   Swedish Chef your computer to see [TS]

00:58:29   behavior religions different bird hehe [TS]

00:58:34   mm that's uh that's good that is a [TS]

00:58:37   one-joke character it's a great job but [TS]

00:58:40   it's a little chilly good show [TS]

00:58:42   um I'm gonna pick with my second pick [TS]

00:58:46   I'm gonna go a little crazy little wild [TS]

00:58:50   oh I'm gonna pick big bird who is kind [TS]

00:58:54   of not a muppet but i consider big bird [TS]

00:58:56   Muppet an honorarium up even though it [TS]

00:58:58   is a person in a suit i feel i guested [TS]

00:59:01   on the original shy feel like big bird [TS]

00:59:03   and he was on the Muppet movie too [TS]

00:59:04   yeah um I do i I'll i kinda love big [TS]

00:59:07   bird and and that that is a sesame [TS]

00:59:11   street muppet I wanted to go with a [TS]

00:59:12   sesame street muppet to even though he's [TS]

00:59:14   no exam it's like a big bird could be a [TS]

00:59:16   go i don't know what the team would be [TS]

00:59:18   but he could be a mascot for a team that [TS]

00:59:21   would be a very good mascot so I picked [TS]

00:59:24   the big pile of the 1970s 1980s big bird [TS]

00:59:27   but the thing is Carol [TS]

00:59:28   ben is still voicing him now and Caroll [TS]

00:59:30   Spinney some very old man [TS]

00:59:31   yes and so like they're really [TS]

00:59:33   disturbing thing about watching Sesame [TS]

00:59:34   Street with the four-year-old and [TS]

00:59:36   they're very recent episodes is one big [TS]

00:59:38   bird is trying to like be his energetic [TS]

00:59:40   six-year old self and he honestly sounds [TS]

00:59:42   like he needs to like lie down and have [TS]

00:59:44   somebody got some arnica honest joints [TS]

00:59:46   mr. you know love because we're gonna go [TS]

00:59:47   to focus for the winter [TS]

00:59:49   ya know so it's I want my dick but I [TS]

00:59:52   really do have abused good for most note [TS]

00:59:55   and godbless Caroll Spinney foregoing [TS]

00:59:57   because this is giving a purpose and [TS]

00:59:58   it's great that he sucks [TS]

00:59:58   it's great that he sucks [TS]

01:00:00   much of this character and i will [TS]

01:00:01   forever also love Oscar the Grouch but [TS]

01:00:02   like I'm really disturbed by the big [TS]

01:00:04   bird of the 20 town's old baby no I [TS]

01:00:07   cannot wait if we can draft Sesame [TS]

01:00:09   Street people i'm not just Fraggles at [TS]

01:00:11   this movie was not because you want to [TS]

01:00:13   throw you throw away your pilot yeah I [TS]

01:00:15   wouldn't draft in Fraggle and are going [TS]

01:00:17   to one more round to be another draft so [TS]

01:00:19   we're so think of sum up its quick [TS]

01:00:21   Lisa I'm ready that you just notified me [TS]

01:00:24   I can't remember your turn up [TS]

01:00:27   yeah yeah right color and then I know [TS]

01:00:29   maybe we might go easy on us a radical [TS]

01:00:31   distracted can i pick that entire [TS]

01:00:34   Orchestra babies [TS]

01:00:35   yes only if you can save the orchestra [TS]

01:00:40   leaders name [TS]

01:00:41   oh god I can't so unfair ok I'm Bobby [TS]

01:00:43   you it's a literate ofthe [TS]

01:00:47   know it's a literate of i can't believe [TS]

01:00:49   i'm now alright so i can trap them um [TS]

01:00:52   army dogs take market Suggs you would [TS]

01:00:55   lose you I'm not only to pops [TS]

01:00:58   yeah that's what I will actually go with [TS]

01:01:05   dr. teeth that was gonna be my pic solid [TS]

01:01:09   pink yeah Erica Pinkett Muppet well i [TS]

01:01:15   was tempted to go with a sesame street [TS]

01:01:16   my pitches to go that way but that much [TS]

01:01:19   as I loved Prairie dawn as a little girl [TS]

01:01:21   I don't think that I don't think this [TS]

01:01:23   don't think Elmo was showing out of God [TS]

01:01:26   give me some credit you Grover Grover is [TS]

01:01:29   pretty great [TS]

01:01:29   everyone I've actually gone so is like [TS]

01:01:32   the off-brand like muppet groomer did [TS]

01:01:35   despite what Phil said earlier i'm going [TS]

01:01:37   to pick scooter because i have always [TS]

01:01:39   appreciated a guy who's just you know [TS]

01:01:41   happy to be the Gopher get stuff done in [TS]

01:01:43   the background he's he's a little [TS]

01:01:44   workhorse and I I always I always kind [TS]

01:01:47   of felt like I related to scooter more [TS]

01:01:49   than a lot of a lot of other folks [TS]

01:01:51   because i was just this isn't my head [TS]

01:01:53   down and getting stuff done [TS]

01:01:54   no no the scooter characters horribly [TS]

01:01:57   ill defined the changes from season to [TS]

01:01:59   season and property to property night [TS]

01:02:01   had I what they want to do an eighth [TS]

01:02:03   score scooter scooter scooter is going [TS]

01:02:06   to get snow of all these reasons for all [TS]

01:02:09   of those things that you just said yes [TS]

01:02:10   that this is why I like scooter as a [TS]

01:02:12   child [TS]

01:02:12   my wife for her she picked Robin the [TS]

01:02:17   little broad cousin of curve that's [TS]

01:02:20   almost as bad as scooter yeah I don't [TS]

01:02:22   why did their film what is your choice [TS]

01:02:24   of a muppet third Muppet well but for [TS]

01:02:26   you because you picked him up and I'm [TS]

01:02:28   second [TS]

01:02:29   well I've always been a fan of the count [TS]

01:02:31   the count is good but i think that said [TS]

01:02:38   someone took dr. teeth i'm just gonna [TS]

01:02:40   have to take Bobby Benson's babe and yes [TS]

01:02:43   oh I don't think it likes 500 and what [TS]

01:02:47   is that in it's the Muppet Show that's [TS]

01:02:49   enough [TS]

01:02:50   it's like the first season it's in the [TS]

01:02:52   series it was a union it's the guy who [TS]

01:02:55   conducts the little baby orchestra and I [TS]

01:02:58   instrument and he's got the cigarette [TS]

01:03:00   dangling from his lips the sunglasses [TS]

01:03:03   and the wrong with ruffians be my [TS]

01:03:05   grandbabies end up being on the holy [TS]

01:03:08   hell out of each other with the [TS]

01:03:09   instruments and II it just looks like [TS]

01:03:12   the ski easiest act that that ever [TS]

01:03:15   happened [TS]

01:03:15   it's marvin sucks without the humanity [TS]

01:03:18   and i really like babies the muppets [TS]

01:03:20   always have those little black shoe [TS]

01:03:21   button eyes you know it gives us vaguely [TS]

01:03:24   rodent look that I find tremendous and [TS]

01:03:28   and and Bobby Bobby Benson would do [TS]

01:03:30   takes to the camera with his cigarette [TS]

01:03:32   take like it's great [TS]

01:03:36   ok David David picture Muppet Grover [TS]

01:03:38   Grover see I was going to say Grover and [TS]

01:03:41   account also great Sesame Street Muppets [TS]

01:03:43   Oscar the Grouch cookie monster many i'm [TS]

01:03:45   just-just already near far near [TS]

01:03:50   and-and-and the running thing of a [TS]

01:03:53   waiter there's a fly in my soup plus [TS]

01:03:55   Super Grover super granted answer he [TS]

01:03:57   comes to the river is brilliant as a [TS]

01:04:00   child I found Grover so deeply upsetting [TS]

01:04:02   and anxious anxiety-inducing i did like [TS]

01:04:05   every time he came on i was on the edge [TS]

01:04:07   online educational oh it's not gonna [TS]

01:04:09   work out because grew from much well [TS]

01:04:11   then true that's true glad you [TS]

01:04:13   identified that rapidly because bird is [TS]

01:04:15   my favorite sesame street character that [TS]

01:04:17   should tell you a launch me if it's not [TS]

01:04:19   over did with the blue blue face [TS]

01:04:21   anything out but are you have the [TS]

01:04:23   classic comedy bits and the other bits [TS]

01:04:25   as [TS]

01:04:26   police assess grammar has a lot of [TS]

01:04:27   issues yeah but yeah the whole thing [TS]

01:04:30   with the little blue guy and and gurus [TS]

01:04:32   the waiter or you know [TS]

01:04:33   yeah those are beautiful right and and [TS]

01:04:35   for my pic I i mentioned him earlier he [TS]

01:04:37   is funny even just in the background and [TS]

01:04:40   in the movie you'll know him as I just [TS]

01:04:43   know we're gonna catch up with those [TS]

01:04:44   guys looking sweetums another guy suit [TS]

01:04:48   yeah two guys in suits and hence the [TS]

01:04:51   name of your Muppet Show I don't care [TS]

01:04:52   it's all the all all mascot Muppets for [TS]

01:04:55   me I was invented by Bobo it should have [TS]

01:04:57   been you uncle deadly a bugbear bugbears [TS]

01:05:02   is nice and I really like this is [TS]

01:05:04   another thing that they're doing right [TS]

01:05:05   is they do those viral movie parodies [TS]

01:05:07   now with Cookie Monster is nicely been [TS]

01:05:10   and yes she does and they're phenomenal [TS]

01:05:13   they're hilarious and timely and smart [TS]

01:05:17   and amazing and you know like we can [TS]

01:05:20   show them again we can show them to the [TS]

01:05:21   four-year-old and half of the jokes like [TS]

01:05:23   over her head and she's not even aware [TS]

01:05:24   the jokes are flying overhead because [TS]

01:05:26   there's still stuff at her level and [TS]

01:05:27   just like oh I have hope for the brand [TS]

01:05:30   because they're doing the stuff they're [TS]

01:05:32   doing it right the cookie monster [TS]

01:05:33   parodies are only some of my favorite [TS]

01:05:35   things on YouTube right now I enjoy the [TS]

01:05:37   game of chairs featuring Grover not to [TS]

01:05:40   do not your eldest yes not to derail [TS]

01:05:43   this podcast but it's too late for that [TS]

01:05:46   so go ahead because i realize that [TS]

01:05:48   Sesame Street is a different property [TS]

01:05:50   from the Muppets because it's it's [TS]

01:05:51   really the children's television [TS]

01:05:52   workshop and I believe Lisa you once [TS]

01:05:55   told me that they had to tell jim henson [TS]

01:05:57   to cool it a little bit because he was [TS]

01:05:59   he was delicious yeah a little bit mean [TS]

01:06:02   with the muppets in the only as yeah [TS]

01:06:04   something straight right so that said [TS]

01:06:06   Sesame Street does a lot of things right [TS]

01:06:08   having we watch it now because we have [TS]

01:06:10   the four-year-old oh the thing that [TS]

01:06:12   they've done wrong unforgivably wrong [TS]

01:06:14   well two things and and Lisa it's it's [TS]

01:06:17   Lisa's point and she can she can address [TS]

01:06:19   the the change in focus of the show but [TS]

01:06:21   they've let Elmo hijack that show there [TS]

01:06:24   is not one show no you you do not [TS]

01:06:27   realize how much Elmo has taken over [TS]

01:06:29   that show until you watch it because oh [TS]

01:06:31   god no yeah it's really it's really just [TS]

01:06:34   everybody exist for the whims of Elmo [TS]

01:06:36   everyone exist [TS]

01:06:37   it is like that twilight zone episode [TS]

01:06:39   where the kid thinks things that perhaps [TS]

01:06:40   remember like always been a wonderful [TS]

01:06:42   life or else they get sent to their own [TS]

01:06:44   field like that Anthony yes exactly and [TS]

01:06:46   everyone's like it's wonderful that [TS]

01:06:48   you're curious LOL it's wonderful [TS]

01:06:50   informative rollerskate Elmo it's [TS]

01:06:51   wonderful that today you're gonna learn [TS]

01:06:53   about the letter W no killing so much [TS]

01:06:55   but nobody has your words sometimes [TS]

01:06:57   which to play out and and you can like [TS]

01:07:01   city that tears according two hours of [TS]

01:07:02   their eyes they choked back their songs [TS]

01:07:04   and say yes sell mobile hopscotch don't [TS]

01:07:07   have all do it don't don't cut be so [TS]

01:07:10   there's a book I want to recommend to [TS]

01:07:11   everybody called street gang the [TS]

01:07:13   complete history of Sesame Street [TS]

01:07:15   yeah I wasn't very good book by Michael [TS]

01:07:17   Davis and the reason they marked with as [TS]

01:07:20   we see market format the reason they [TS]

01:07:21   changed the format it was twofold one is [TS]

01:07:23   they found that children who are younger [TS]

01:07:25   than the original intended audience for [TS]

01:07:26   watching and so they want to try to [TS]

01:07:28   reach them and two children today are [TS]

01:07:31   exposed to so much media so much earlier [TS]

01:07:33   and are so much more visually [TS]

01:07:35   sophisticated than we were that this was [TS]

01:07:36   the only way to keep their attention was [TS]

01:07:38   too was was to basically do the the [TS]

01:07:40   program and they do now where's the [TS]

01:07:42   brief live-action segments there's I'm [TS]

01:07:44   number of the day word-of-the-day a few [TS]

01:07:45   animated things that you'll have flying [TS]

01:07:47   fairy school with abby cadabby sometimes [TS]

01:07:50   or sometimes you'll have mary had a [TS]

01:07:52   little lamb and there's another brief [TS]

01:07:54   musical segment and there's Elmo the [TS]

01:07:55   musical um so like I get why they did it [TS]

01:08:00   yeah I'm what I'm curious about is I'd [TS]

01:08:04   like to see what the long-term effects [TS]

01:08:05   are you know what these kids will grow [TS]

01:08:07   up singing in remembering compared to [TS]

01:08:09   all of us who can still see the [TS]

01:08:10   123456789 10 [TS]

01:08:14   yeah hell yeah um and stuff like that [TS]

01:08:18   you know what I'm personally not too [TS]

01:08:20   crazy about our the celebrities on the [TS]

01:08:22   show but at the same time again you know [TS]

01:08:25   it's in response the times and they are [TS]

01:08:27   actually trying to keep parents engaged [TS]

01:08:28   as well too and it seems to me that [TS]

01:08:30   there actually a lot more aggressive [TS]

01:08:32   about trying to keep adults engaged in [TS]

01:08:33   watching with kids and they used to be [TS]

01:08:34   which is a bit another big cultural [TS]

01:08:36   shift that's taking place [TS]

01:08:38   um I would be curious actually if I [TS]

01:08:40   could show my daughter some old-school [TS]

01:08:42   Sesame Street to see how long she could [TS]

01:08:44   barely pay attention because one of the [TS]

01:08:45   things i like about the format now is I [TS]

01:08:47   can actually turn off after 10 minutes [TS]

01:08:49   ago okay you've had enough let's go play [TS]

01:08:50   and there's no there's no but what's [TS]

01:08:53   going to happen to the waiter with a [TS]

01:08:54   flying soup anything like that so so [TS]

01:08:58   there's that I think we're gonna I mean [TS]

01:08:59   we're going to close the door on our [TS]

01:09:01   discussion of the muppets now but i [TS]

01:09:31   people who hold the band so see I feel [TS]

01:09:33   like you're going to keep their balance [TS]

01:09:34   good or they could sing a duet tables [TS]

01:09:39   are turned and I go against the audience [TS]

01:09:40   makes fun of them making this erica and [TS]

01:09:43   sign [TS]
