555: The Rickies (June 2025)

00:00:00   from relay this is connected episode five five five and it is the rickies for wwdc this episode is brought to you by squarespace netsuite and zocdoc my name is mike hurley i am your defending keynote chairman and i would like to introduce reigning annual chairman federico batici hi federico hello mike i'm coming in

00:00:29   for the other title i'm the keynote chairman title will also be mine you're looking for consolidation

00:00:37   yes i am looking for the unification of titles um next week uh we're also joined by

00:00:46   the podcaster uh formerly known as steven hackett now also known as steven hey hello steven i didn't know

00:00:56   where that was going you lost your last name in the process now you're just steven that's tough

00:01:02   there's a group of people in my life from a certain time that just call me by my last name

00:01:06   so you've kind of done the opposite yeah does anybody is is there anybody in the world

00:01:13   that gets away with calling you steve no i really dislike it i know you do but like is there anyone

00:01:21   you know you know it's like is there anyone that calls you it and you just don't correct no i correct

00:01:24   him it doesn't happen very often it's like it's like nobody calls me federico in real life

00:01:30   people just call me tici federico my mom calls me federico and my doctor like only my family call me

00:01:37   michael yeah yeah because i don't like it steve is steve is weird uh let while we're just doing this

00:01:45   do your significant others call you by your name or do you have like a pet name they use all the time

00:01:52   no tici if if if adena calls mike then i'm in trouble okay yeah yeah no if if you if you ever hear

00:02:03   silvia call me federico like hope that i'm on the run or something

00:02:07   and at this point so we had pet names for each other we have now absolutely fully entrenched into

00:02:18   mama and papa you got it was a thing that i never wanted to do and i was like no we should we will

00:02:28   not do this that's how you call me daddy sometimes you know exactly but that's the thing that you asked

00:02:33   me to do one time and now i have to keep doing uh but no we're we're very much into mama and papa

00:02:38   territory and that's just i think that might just be the way it goes now i gotta say when we're talking

00:02:43   when me and silvia individually when we're talking to the dogs we also refer to the other uh person as

00:02:51   mama or papa um so like if silvia is talking to dogs it's like hey go to papa you know so that was how

00:02:58   it started and now it's just like if now i just call mama like i'm like mama can you bring this

00:03:03   like it's just we're in it right we're in it now there's nothing we can do about it nice and also i

00:03:08   think the fact that we chose mama papa like it feels different than if it was mum yeah to me right

00:03:17   because like that's a different thing where like i had never called my mom mama and she never called her

00:03:22   dad papa because that's not how you'd say it remaining you'd say tata so like it would be mama and tata

00:03:27   and anyway so it works for me because like there's only one person in my life of a called mama

00:03:33   yeah i'm like i'm like federico if mary says steven either i am in trouble or something serious is

00:03:43   happening and like she's trying to get my attention yes you know like steven the you know the house is

00:03:48   on fire or whatever it might be or if family is over then idina will call me mike yeah right yeah

00:03:53   uh yeah so we're not the mama nice look at our personal lives as an intro for this episode

00:04:02   trying to humanize each other before uh tearing before we don't before we don't uh we also have

00:04:10   some follow-up to do uh before we get into the rickies and a big thank you to listener matt uh who had

00:04:17   the motorola rocker and who had not responded to my email they heard me on the show they emailed me

00:04:21   back they had some personal stuff going on so totally all forgiven and the rocker's on the move

00:04:26   i'm very excited very excited that's weird because in our messages you said you would never forgive them

00:04:32   so that's like super weird that like that like now in public you're like yeah no problem because like

00:04:37   i remember you said to me in federico i don't care nothing is more important than my rocker so like

00:04:42   it's like really strange that's not true at all saying this saying this in front of everyone is

00:04:47   really weird not true at all yeah so right now in parcel i've got uh rocker e1 and it was accepted

00:04:53   in canada yesterday so oh good um could it be rejected in canada it could be like the rocker it could be

00:05:00   also have a lens coming from china okay uh and a pair of glasses from warby parker so that's

00:05:07   what's going on new frames no i i don't know how i did it i scratched my current glasses pretty badly

00:05:14   but they're new and so they're under their like scratch warranty thing so they're okay it's like

00:05:19   they ship them to me and i ship the opens back or something so nice i wouldn't care except it's like

00:05:24   right in my line of vision i honestly don't know how it happened but it's terrible okay philip wrote in

00:05:31   just a quick note on the apple watch battery replacement i had my series 8 at 79 battery health

00:05:37   recently replaced at the apple store turns out they just don't swap the battery they give

00:05:42   a new watch for them it was 109 germany dollars germany dollars i think that's right

00:05:51   yes the famous german dollar it was deutschmark right that was yeah see that's what was in my mind

00:06:00   but i knew it was wrong and so federico was it lira lira in in italy no that's an rss app i think

00:06:07   yeah yes yes yes you got it right yeah so anyways good philip says super smooth process took five days

00:06:15   and they mailed me a new one there you go nice oh by the way i should also mention on this topic

00:06:21   um something that considerably improved my aging first generation apple watch ultra um that i should

00:06:30   have thought about it um i didn't realize that i had the optimized battery charging setting turned on

00:06:38   and so that's why it was not lasting that much because it was never fully topping up the apple watch

00:06:45   yeah but so but now it's like whatever you know i mean yes yes well i mean at this point at this

00:06:53   point the battery is done for anyway uh well done for i mean it's 86 so it's kind of done for uh might as

00:07:02   well enjoy the full 100 charge you know and that made it it made it a little bit better yeah live a

00:07:10   little yeah live a little live a little uh we have more from not mark german ah our favorite okay

00:07:19   there's gonna there's a lot on the line for this feedback right and next week uh can we just start

00:07:24   referring to this person as nmg is that mg says okay uh ipad os 26 will have mac os like app windows

00:07:34   the number of windows allowed at once will be determined by the amount of physical ram on the

00:07:38   device three gigabytes for three windows four gigabytes for four windows six gigabytes for eight

00:07:44   windows i bet you thought i was gonna say six eight gigabytes for 12 picture in picture window does

00:07:50   not count towards the limit okay so it's going it's going up exponentially is that how it how this works

00:07:55   yeah if you have 12 gigabytes you have 100 windows it's like that thing with if you take a grain of

00:08:00   rice and you put it on a chessboard and double it by the end of the chessboard there's more rice than

00:08:04   there is in the world or something like that that's where we are with this uh uh nmg i mean there's

00:08:10   there's a lot on the line here for you uh we have how many predictions so far three there have been

00:08:16   three and i don't remember the entire detail of all of them but these are like uh in our notion so we

00:08:21   can go back and check them these are like the three secrets of uh what's it called the religious thing

00:08:25   um you know what you know what i'm talking about the the three secrets of fatima is that's what i'm

00:08:33   thinking of okay you guys never heard of it you guys never don't know it's not ringing any bells

00:08:38   yeah it's a catholic it's a catholic thing the the three secrets of but yeah okay you don't know

00:08:43   about this you don't know about this steven it doesn't i'm not catholic yeah but like you'd never

00:08:48   come i know you're not catholic okay i feel like i've just i just started a war on the podcast

00:08:53   no it's just like maybe it'll come up i don't know yeah i mean it's like vaguely it's vaguely familiar

00:08:58   to me but not um not um no love for my pope you know what i mean anyway anyway we have three three

00:09:08   secrets from not mark german and we'll see if they come true on monday if they do we gotta reconsider

00:09:15   the role that we play in the apple rumor mill right if we are right on this no seriously though that is

00:09:22   because we were before mark german yeah so like we got that tip which we thought was a joke and we

00:09:29   read on the show about about there being like mac like window okay i've got him i've got all three

00:09:36   you got them yes okay i asked can you read the three secrets please yes uh ipad is getting triangular

00:09:44   pointer when magic keyboard is in use for easier targeting of ui elements than the existing circular

00:09:50   pointer which is terrible for text selection okay so triangle pointer is one triangle pointer

00:09:55   number two it's a shame to hear that you're going back to the mac federico because this year

00:10:01   ipad os is getting live window resizing and positioning similar to mac os and vision os

00:10:07   winky face winky face and then this one about the number of windows allowed at once will be determined

00:10:16   by the amount of physical ram on the device so really it's like two and a half picks well no

00:10:20   this one is is more mac os like app windows it's actually kind of different to the other one which

00:10:25   is that one just spoke about live window movement and positioning and this is like over this i'm

00:10:31   assuming many windows on screen at once right so they're kind of the three things so it's triangular

00:10:37   pointer um multiple windows like mac like window management is what i'll call it i guess and uh live

00:10:45   window resizing and positioning so i guess things can overlap and you can do whatever you want with them

00:10:50   yes i was saying this on upgrade um when me and jason were doing the draft and and it was just like a

00:10:56   wild realization that i had which is on vision os you can overlap windows like completely yeah but on

00:11:04   ipad you can't do that and it's like i just don't know how we got to this like i don't know how we got

00:11:08   there like it's so strange to me so wow nmg coming in with the three secrets yeah we'll see uh we'll see

00:13:07   our thanks to squarespace for their support of the show

00:13:10   the rickies is a game connected hosts play before apple keynotes in the beginning of a new year

00:13:17   trying to predict future events it's made up of three rounds each host makes two regular picks

00:13:24   followed by a risky pick there are two types of rickies today we are playing the keynote rickies

00:13:30   the winner is named the keynote chairman that this position is held until the next keynote

00:13:36   hosts should be introduced at the top of each episode according to their current titles

00:13:40   in the event that a host has both positions they shall be introduced as ricky benchman

00:13:46   so if federico wins he's ricky benjamin for a while

00:13:50   after the rickies i've totally forgotten about benjamin benjamin as a thing so that's good that's

00:13:55   really good i love being reminded of these things yeah i read this document yesterday i was like

00:13:59   there's a lot of stuff in here after the rickies the hosts then play a game called the flexies

00:14:05   these two games are separate but related separate but related please stand for the reading of the rules

00:14:13   each host gets to make two regular picks host can be granted a bonus regular pick for any previously

00:14:27   incorrect pick that has now come true from the last three corresponding games a previously incorrect pick

00:14:34   may only be used once correct regular picks are awarded one point the language used for the regular picks

00:14:41   must be finalized and agreed upon during recording no partial points may be awarded risky picks have a more

00:14:49   complex scoring system each host must make a pick with three supporting details if you get all three

00:14:57   details correct you earn two points two details correct earn you one point if you get one detail correct

00:15:04   you get zero points and if you get all three details wrong you lose one point points are awarded based

00:15:12   on the details not the overall pick picks must have been approved as risky by the other two hosts before

00:15:19   the start of the game picks made for the keynote rickies cannot be reused by the host who made them for

00:15:25   the next keynote for keynote rickies the scoring window starts when the live stream begins and closes when picks are scored

00:15:33   any information used in scoring must be publicly verifiable at the time of recording all hosts are allowed to reuse picks previously made by others

00:15:43   scoring is completed during recording and cannot be modified once an episode is complete in the event of a tie

00:15:50   the event of a tie dice by p calc must be used in relay mode to pick a winner in the case of a three-way tie

00:15:57   hosts all make their calls at the same time with flipping continuing until a winner is named

00:16:03   now this next bullet point is new

00:16:06   jason snell previously had a lifetime ban on flipping any coins in relation to the rickies

00:16:12   however after graduating coin flip university during the 2024 podcastathon for saint jude

00:16:19   he can now flip a coin under direct supervision

00:16:22   the order of picks is set by previous performance the winner of the previous associated game goes first

00:16:29   the previous loser goes last winners will be recognized during the closing ceremonies

00:16:36   as a reminder federico is the current annual chairman and mike is the defending keynote chairman

00:16:42   past results can be seen at rickies.co and rickies.net

00:16:46   these sites also have pages about managing your own scorekeeping at home

00:16:50   you may be seated

00:16:51   just to just to confirm

00:16:56   jason's still not going to be flipping the coins

00:16:59   but he's just not banned

00:17:01   he's just not banned that's right

00:17:02   we're still going to be using dice by p calc

00:17:05   um but you know

00:17:06   yeah i think that's clear in there

00:17:08   i think

00:17:09   yeah i just wanted to make sure that jason knows this

00:17:11   yeah

00:17:11   um specifically

00:17:13   so happy graduated

00:17:14   you know

00:17:15   me too

00:17:15   it was an incredible moment

00:17:16   um

00:17:17   it was it was

00:17:18   everyone was very excited about it

00:17:20   it was it was really great

00:17:21   but yes as jason points out in the live discord

00:17:24   if dice by p calc is ever discontinued

00:17:26   or james deletes that part of the code

00:17:28   he's ready

00:17:29   yeah

00:17:29   we can pull him in when we need him

00:17:30   yeah we'll deal with that

00:17:31   you know if james retired or something

00:17:33   um honestly if james retires i think

00:17:35   really has to take over dice by p calc

00:17:37   but that's a cut topic for another day

00:17:39   we yeah we can deal with that when the time comes

00:17:41   that's right

00:17:42   so with the rules read

00:17:44   it is time for round one

00:17:46   okay

00:17:48   so that's me right

00:17:50   that is you

00:17:51   okay so round one pick

00:17:54   significantly new os design

00:17:57   on at least one platform

00:17:59   you're hedging

00:18:00   okay

00:18:01   yeah i mean

00:18:02   come on

00:18:04   what would be the non-hedged version

00:18:07   like on all platforms

00:18:08   is that

00:18:08   is that the

00:18:09   the non-hedged version

00:18:11   no no no

00:18:11   i'm just

00:18:12   i'm

00:18:12   i know

00:18:13   giving you

00:18:13   i originally my pick was

00:18:16   there was a significantly new os design

00:18:17   and i was like

00:18:18   ah i've played this game too many times

00:18:20   to just allow

00:18:21   have you seen

00:18:22   have you seen the

00:18:24   the concept

00:18:25   by sebastian dewith

00:18:27   i did

00:18:28   yeah

00:18:28   yeah

00:18:29   it's really nice looking

00:18:30   i i like the idea of like

00:18:32   what what does he call it

00:18:34   like living glass

00:18:35   is that

00:18:35   the expression

00:18:36   yeah

00:18:36   um

00:18:38   i mean it looks really good to me

00:18:40   uh

00:18:41   i still kind of wonder what

00:18:42   what such a version of a design

00:18:44   could look like on mac os

00:18:45   i think of all platforms

00:18:46   the most interesting ones for me

00:18:49   to look for

00:18:49   will be mac os

00:18:50   and watch os

00:18:51   um

00:18:52   but yeah

00:18:53   i'm intrigued

00:18:54   i think

00:18:54   watch os

00:18:56   watch os

00:18:58   is not going to look like the others

00:19:00   it will

00:19:01   take some

00:19:02   stuff

00:19:03   like maybe

00:19:04   app icons

00:19:05   maybe

00:19:05   fonts

00:19:06   that kind of

00:19:07   thing

00:19:08   i

00:19:08   but i

00:19:09   yeah

00:19:10   i'm also

00:19:11   in general

00:19:12   like i'm very excited about

00:19:14   the new design

00:19:15   i'm very excited about it

00:19:17   i

00:19:18   i am

00:19:19   i'm not

00:19:20   i'm not sure that i just

00:19:24   assume

00:19:25   the glass

00:19:26   like look

00:19:27   like

00:19:28   i i i

00:19:31   my kind of feeling

00:19:32   everyone says

00:19:33   it's going to look like

00:19:34   vision os

00:19:34   and and i wonder if that has been taken

00:19:37   too much on face value

00:19:40   and that it's not going to be a transparent operating system

00:19:44   but when we see it we're like oh

00:19:47   they meant like this

00:19:50   like whatever

00:19:51   and i don't know what that answer is right

00:19:53   like i don't know exactly what

00:19:54   it would be

00:19:56   but

00:19:56   and it could be all glossy

00:19:58   but like i'm just

00:19:59   i'm not

00:20:00   sure

00:20:01   like to me i could imagine

00:20:02   like one of the

00:20:03   one of i think the key things about vision os design

00:20:06   is there is more

00:20:07   physical layering and structure and shadow

00:20:10   i could imagine that

00:20:13   more than

00:20:14   transparent windows

00:20:16   which i feel like a lot of people

00:20:17   think is going to happen

00:20:18   you know

00:20:19   like

00:20:20   on vision os

00:20:21   compared to other

00:20:22   operating systems

00:20:23   it really does feel like

00:20:25   buttons

00:20:26   and text

00:20:28   and icons

00:20:29   sit on top of something

00:20:31   right

00:20:31   that there is a physicality

00:20:33   to the operating system

00:20:34   which doesn't exist

00:20:36   on any of their other platforms

00:20:38   where it just feels like

00:20:39   these are pixels on a screen

00:20:41   not like physical objects

00:20:43   that you can manipulate

00:20:44   so i could see that more

00:20:46   than i do

00:20:47   glass

00:20:48   but i'm

00:20:48   my thing with os design

00:20:51   is just like

00:20:51   like it always

00:20:52   we have no idea

00:20:53   you have no idea

00:20:54   you have to just wait and see

00:20:56   and i'm really excited about it

00:20:58   like i'm

00:20:58   i'm very very excited about it

00:21:01   uh

00:21:01   i think it's going to be

00:21:02   super fun

00:21:03   to talk

00:21:04   about

00:21:05   pixel placement

00:21:06   for a few months

00:21:07   and i'm really looking forward to that

00:21:09   yeah

00:21:10   i'm intrigued to see if

00:21:12   if

00:21:12   the new design

00:21:14   has an explanation

00:21:15   to go along with it

00:21:17   that is more

00:21:19   practical

00:21:19   than visual

00:21:20   like

00:21:21   instead of

00:21:23   well

00:21:23   obviously it's going to look new

00:21:24   and that

00:21:25   we pretty much can assume

00:21:27   but is there going to be

00:21:28   an explanation

00:21:29   from apple

00:21:29   that says

00:21:30   we're doing this design

00:21:32   because we think

00:21:32   it also enables

00:21:33   from a practical

00:21:34   functional perspective

00:21:36   like

00:21:37   it makes

00:21:37   these specific

00:21:38   interactions

00:21:39   better

00:21:40   and i'm thinking like

00:21:41   how they position

00:21:43   this design

00:21:44   will also say a lot

00:21:45   about their future

00:21:46   hardware

00:21:47   like

00:21:47   is this

00:21:48   because this is going to be

00:21:49   the design language

00:21:50   that you're going to see

00:21:50   on a home pod with a screen

00:21:52   and potentially on glasses

00:21:53   so

00:21:54   the practical explanation

00:21:55   that they give

00:21:56   for this design language

00:21:58   will probably suggest

00:22:00   a few things

00:22:01   for the future hardware

00:22:02   that we're going to see

00:22:03   from apple

00:22:04   and that i think

00:22:05   is the most interesting

00:22:05   interesting part

00:22:06   like obviously

00:22:07   i mean the look

00:22:07   the look of it

00:22:08   will be interesting

00:22:09   but also the explanation

00:22:10   of it

00:22:11   i think

00:22:11   what is the user experience

00:22:14   design

00:22:14   exactly

00:22:14   of this

00:22:15   not just the ui design

00:22:17   like why did you do it

00:22:18   you know

00:22:19   when when ios 7

00:22:20   was very much more ui

00:22:22   than it was user experience

00:22:24   yeah

00:22:24   yes

00:22:25   but that you know

00:22:25   there are many reasons

00:22:26   for that which have been

00:22:27   well told at this point

00:22:28   but it was just that

00:22:29   you know

00:22:30   that was really more

00:22:31   of just a fresh coat

00:22:32   of paint

00:22:33   than it was

00:22:34   a bit of a rethink

00:22:35   i hope

00:22:36   there is a bit

00:22:37   of a rethink

00:22:37   because that's just

00:22:38   the most interesting

00:22:39   it could possibly be

00:22:40   but i i'm i'm really

00:22:43   excited about it

00:22:44   steven is somebody

00:22:44   who would be helping

00:22:46   manage a full scale

00:22:48   redesign of a whole

00:22:49   suite of applications

00:22:50   how are you feeling

00:22:50   about it

00:22:51   excited but afraid

00:22:56   yeah i think

00:22:57   this is like

00:22:58   i saw i saw underscore

00:22:59   this week

00:23:00   and i can tell

00:23:01   he's really excited

00:23:02   about it

00:23:02   and i feel like

00:23:03   that level of excitement

00:23:04   will make your life

00:23:06   harder

00:23:06   i told him this morning

00:23:07   because we were talking

00:23:08   about apple watches

00:23:09   i was like if they do

00:23:10   an os redesign

00:23:11   and they give us

00:23:12   third-party watch faces

00:23:13   like i i'm afraid

00:23:15   for underscore

00:23:16   yeah his keyboard

00:23:18   will catch on fire

00:23:18   i think is what's

00:23:19   actually

00:23:20   so hopefully that's

00:23:22   not uh

00:23:22   not both

00:23:24   but yeah i i'm

00:23:25   excited about it

00:23:26   you know i agree

00:23:27   with federico i want

00:23:28   to hear the reason

00:23:28   i'm not sure

00:23:30   they'll really give

00:23:31   one but we'll see

00:23:32   uh i mean

00:23:34   they'll say stuff

00:23:35   you know like

00:23:36   they said stuff

00:23:36   with seven right

00:23:37   they're like oh

00:23:38   you know where you

00:23:39   are it's like dude

00:23:39   i knew that like

00:23:40   i dragged something

00:23:41   from the edge of the

00:23:42   screen my stuff

00:23:42   still behind it

00:23:43   like i don't

00:23:45   i have

00:23:45   spatial awareness

00:23:48   of where things are

00:23:48   maybe it's just

00:23:49   more of that

00:23:50   but it is going to

00:23:51   be i think exciting

00:23:52   uh either way

00:23:53   and and i i i

00:23:56   am coming around

00:23:57   to the idea

00:23:57   that it is

00:23:58   actually going to

00:23:59   be a smart

00:24:00   distraction from

00:24:01   the things that

00:24:02   they're not gonna

00:24:02   have yeah i mean

00:24:04   you know thankfully

00:24:05   they don't have to

00:24:05   redesign those

00:24:06   scare screens so

00:24:07   that's true that's

00:24:09   true yeah

00:24:10   let's see how the

00:24:12   appeal goes you

00:24:13   know you know

00:24:14   dma compliance gonna

00:24:16   look as sexy as

00:24:17   ever uh yeah

00:24:18   with the new

00:24:19   design uh all

00:24:20   right my round

00:24:22   one pick pretty

00:24:23   easy um apple

00:24:25   rebrands version

00:24:26   numbers of its

00:24:28   operating systems

00:24:29   so uh new

00:24:31   version numbers

00:24:32   um uh left

00:24:34   unsaid in the

00:24:35   pick is it

00:24:37   sounds like they're

00:24:37   gonna do the

00:24:38   annual thing

00:24:38   um so uh

00:24:40   ios 26

00:24:41   micro s 26 and

00:24:42   so forth

00:24:42   i'm excited about

00:24:44   this because

00:24:45   because i can't

00:24:46   ever remember what

00:24:47   version we're on

00:24:48   anymore like i've

00:24:49   hit that point now

00:24:50   i think once once

00:24:51   we got past 15 or

00:24:52   16 which i think

00:24:54   was last year i

00:24:55   don't even know

00:24:55   see this is the

00:24:56   thing are we on

00:24:56   18 now we're

00:24:57   in 18 yeah we're

00:24:58   on 18 see i don't

00:24:59   know anymore it's

00:25:00   impossible to know i

00:25:01   don't think anybody

00:25:01   knows anymore so

00:25:03   uh i'm pleased that

00:25:04   we're getting ready to

00:25:05   move past this time

00:25:06   and into something a

00:25:07   bit more logical

00:25:08   uh i will not stand

00:25:11   i'm just saying

00:25:11   everyone this right

00:25:12   now all right i

00:25:14   will not stand for

00:25:15   oh but it's 2025

00:25:16   2025 no shut up

00:25:18   all right if they

00:25:19   call it ios 26

00:25:20   just shut up all

00:25:23   right it comes out

00:25:23   in september most

00:25:25   people won't get it

00:25:26   on their phones until

00:25:26   november why would

00:25:28   you then call it 25

00:25:30   right like it doesn't

00:25:32   make any sense it

00:25:33   makes perfect sense to

00:25:34   call it 26 and i will

00:25:36   not stand those jokes

00:25:38   all right i would

00:25:39   step stephen i don't

00:25:40   think you're gonna

00:25:40   agree with this

00:25:41   anyone makes this

00:25:41   joke in discord

00:25:42   immediate ban

00:25:43   no i'm suggesting

00:25:44   this uh we're not

00:25:45   doing that

00:25:46   ah come on federico

00:25:49   can i ban people

00:25:50   from your discord

00:25:51   sure come come in

00:25:53   excellent excellent

00:25:55   please uh okay do

00:25:58   do you think it's

00:25:58   with an apostrophe or

00:25:59   not i hope not i

00:26:03   hope not but i kind

00:26:07   of want them to do

00:26:07   it i don't know i'm

00:26:10   split i don't think

00:26:12   they will i don't

00:26:13   think they will

00:26:13   no i say no

00:26:15   apostrophe yeah i

00:26:18   don't think there

00:26:19   will be okay uh and

00:26:24   then my round one

00:26:25   pick the new version

00:26:28   of mac os drop

00:26:29   support for some

00:26:30   intel max okay

00:26:33   steven round one

00:26:34   pick right there

00:26:35   i've ever heard one

00:26:36   wait wait till you

00:26:37   get to my ricky baby

00:26:38   it's i leaned in

00:26:40   you know you gotta do

00:26:42   everything so okay

00:26:44   can you lay the

00:26:45   groundwork for us

00:26:46   here can you give

00:26:46   the context to the

00:26:47   people including us

00:26:49   yes of course uh and

00:26:50   there'll be a link in

00:26:51   the show notes because

00:26:51   i've been thinking

00:26:52   about this pick and

00:26:53   wrote a blog post to

00:26:53   back it up a couple

00:26:54   weeks ago um sequoia

00:26:57   supports uh various

00:26:59   machines from 2017

00:27:00   2018 2019 and i think

00:27:03   that the uh some of

00:27:05   these machines without

00:27:07   the t2 security chip

00:27:09   maybe the ones that

00:27:09   go um and they've

00:27:12   also supported intel

00:27:14   machines longer than

00:27:16   they have pre through

00:27:17   previous uh rounds of

00:27:20   of os releases um of

00:27:22   course there's a lot

00:27:23   more intel machines

00:27:24   running around now and

00:27:26   apple has done the thing

00:27:27   now where they've never

00:27:28   they haven't done this

00:27:29   in past transitions is

00:27:30   yes sequoia runs on

00:27:32   intel max but you don't

00:27:34   get a bunch of the

00:27:35   features that apple

00:27:36   silicon mac users get

00:27:37   right they've sort of

00:27:38   bifurcated the feature

00:27:39   list which is also

00:27:40   interesting um but i

00:27:42   suspect this list will

00:27:43   get uh pared down a

00:27:44   little bit um you know

00:27:45   maybe things like the

00:27:47   i think the rumor is a

00:27:48   2020 map of gear may go

00:27:50   away um and maybe the

00:27:53   2018 mac mini so maybe

00:27:54   it's just those two but

00:27:55   we'll see okay so this

00:27:57   isn't as exciting as i

00:27:58   thought which is not a

00:27:59   problem but there you

00:28:00   still think some intel

00:28:02   max could still be

00:28:04   supported we're only

00:28:04   gonna be getting rid of

00:28:05   another swath of them

00:28:06   i yes i think just a

00:28:08   small handful will

00:28:08   will remain okay

00:28:10   okay yeah not all but

00:28:13   some this has a very

00:28:16   steven pick i gotta

00:28:17   steven coded yeah

00:28:19   all right kick us off

00:28:25   mike round two new

00:28:28   features are announced

00:28:29   that are powered by

00:28:30   apple intelligence okay

00:28:32   okay so it's according to

00:28:34   you it's not going to

00:28:36   be a no show this is

00:28:38   this is why i wanted to

00:28:39   make this pick like i

00:28:40   don't think that this is

00:28:41   an easy gimme pick right

00:28:43   but i i kind of want to

00:28:44   be a little contrarian

00:28:46   here um i don't think

00:28:49   this is a we're not going

00:28:51   to talk about apple

00:28:52   intelligence year i

00:28:54   actually think they will

00:28:56   find things if they

00:28:58   haven't got things that

00:28:59   they will say are

00:29:00   powered by apple

00:29:01   intelligence because

00:29:02   while we may not see

00:29:04   any of the stuff they

00:29:06   spoke about last year i

00:29:08   don't i don't think that

00:29:09   they're going to want

00:29:10   people to think that

00:29:10   they're not doing

00:29:11   anything when it comes

00:29:12   to ai so i think we're

00:29:15   going to see some new

00:29:16   apple intelligence features

00:29:17   that we like that

00:29:18   basically we haven't

00:29:19   seen before um that

00:29:21   come to the operating

00:29:23   systems in some form so

00:29:24   these are things that are

00:29:25   new do you want to

00:29:29   speculate uh you know

00:29:31   beyond the text of the

00:29:33   pick yeah i mean there

00:29:35   are some rumored things

00:29:36   right which could or

00:29:38   could not ship at this

00:29:39   point i do think that

00:29:41   stuff that exists out

00:29:42   there the battery

00:29:43   manage the battery

00:29:44   management feature right

00:29:46   that could happen that

00:29:47   could also be saved for

00:29:49   the iphone event and

00:29:50   it's like specifically for

00:29:51   the thin phone right so

00:29:53   you know it's like a

00:29:54   thing that's out there

00:29:55   but who knows when it's

00:29:55   going to ship um but i

00:29:57   think the thing that is

00:29:58   most likely going to

00:29:59   happen and the thing

00:29:59   that i most want them to

00:30:01   do um is to put is to

00:30:04   power the the uh health

00:30:06   app with llm stuff to be

00:30:08   able to tell me and let

00:30:11   me speak to it and ask

00:30:12   it questions about the

00:30:14   data that it provides

00:30:15   that apple does an

00:30:16   atrociously bad job of

00:30:17   explaining what literally

00:30:19   anything means in the

00:30:20   health app right like

00:30:21   your vo2 max changed

00:30:23   great what does that

00:30:25   mean like can you can

00:30:27   you help me at all um

00:30:29   and so i'm uh this is

00:30:31   what i want them to do

00:30:32   and i'm hoping that they

00:30:33   will that they've kind of

00:30:34   like built some kind of

00:30:35   interesting model they have

00:30:36   so much data right that

00:30:38   they could use of mine to

00:30:40   create a little uh here's

00:30:42   here's a here's a personal

00:30:44   mic fitness trainer um

00:30:46   power by ai i i would i

00:30:48   think that would be pretty

00:30:48   sweet and i hope that they

00:30:50   do that

00:30:50   yeah makes sense okay

00:30:53   all right i'm moving into

00:30:57   my round two pick and i

00:30:59   will say uh i will choose

00:31:01   jason's favorite new feature

00:31:03   the updated vision os gets

00:31:05   an eye scrolling feature

00:31:07   scrolling with your eyes

00:31:10   whatever that means uh it

00:31:12   sounds fun

00:31:13   no eye rolling

00:31:14   eye scrolling you know

00:31:17   you're gonna you're gonna

00:31:19   look at you're gonna look at

00:31:20   five to a pixels and move

00:31:21   your eyes up and down and

00:31:23   you're gonna scroll you know

00:31:24   uh that that's how it's

00:31:26   gonna work um i don't know i

00:31:27   can't imagine something like

00:31:29   um i'm gonna just imagine

00:31:31   here but like uh sort of

00:31:33   staring at a at a scroll bar

00:31:36   for a few seconds to sort of

00:31:38   lock in your gaze on the

00:31:40   scroll bar and then moving

00:31:42   your eyes up and down to

00:31:43   scroll more quickly on the

00:31:44   on the page um something

00:31:46   like that is what i'm

00:31:47   thinking of i don't know

00:31:48   so me and jason were

00:31:49   talking a bit about this

00:31:50   an upgrade right and

00:31:51   someone i didn't make it

00:31:53   to the show but somebody

00:31:54   uh wrote in and said that

00:31:56   this is like a feature that

00:31:58   the hololens has or had

00:32:01   and the way that it worked

00:32:03   was just it was just based

00:32:04   upon where your eyes are so

00:32:06   if your eyes are at the

00:32:08   bottom of a window it will

00:32:10   just start to gently

00:32:11   scroll yeah which i think

00:32:13   would be the most natural

00:32:15   way that something like this

00:32:17   yeah could work um and and

00:32:19   you know like one of the

00:32:21   great things about vision os

00:32:22   like the operating system and

00:32:24   when it you know when it

00:32:25   works it does feel like it's

00:32:26   kind of reading your mind a

00:32:28   little bit right like it that's

00:32:30   what's one of the things that

00:32:31   is quite impressive about the

00:32:32   way that it works and if done

00:32:34   well that kind of thing would

00:32:36   would maybe uh kind of

00:32:38   proliferate or continue that

00:32:39   that feeling right that like

00:32:41   oh i want to continue reading

00:32:43   and the window is just

00:32:45   magically scrolling for me

00:32:46   because your eyes are at the

00:32:48   bottom of the page that will

00:32:49   make sense i like it okay yeah

00:32:52   so that's my pick do you think

00:32:54   that'll be something that's just

00:32:56   on or maybe is it an

00:32:57   accessibility option

00:32:58   maybe it's just on yeah i think

00:33:03   if it's accessibility option

00:33:04   they would have showed it off

00:33:05   an accessibility awareness day

00:33:06   that's a good point i think the

00:33:10   time of accessibility features in

00:33:12   the keynote are gone okay whether

00:33:15   this is a keynote thing or all

00:33:16   anyway i don't know right um

00:33:18   depends how much time they want

00:33:19   to spend on vision os 26 okay

00:33:23   i uh yeah it's good good stuff

00:33:28   uh i'm going with nmg here

00:33:32   ipad os gets updated window

00:33:34   management tools

00:33:35   okay it's been a couple years

00:33:39   since they've you know bolted yet

00:33:40   another system to the ipad so why

00:33:42   not

00:33:42   do you think they'll do anything

00:33:45   to mac window management

00:33:46   to mac window management

00:33:49   yeah i mean stage manager came to

00:33:51   the mac when they put it on ipad

00:33:52   yeah i think if if

00:33:54   if stage manager still exists the

00:33:58   way that it is but it's updated

00:33:59   then that potentially could come to

00:34:01   the mac but if all the ipad if i'm

00:34:03   putting all in air quotes if all the

00:34:05   ipad is getting is free range windows

00:34:08   then i don't i mean the mac already

00:34:11   has that so i think that's kind of

00:34:12   dependent on what they do in ipad os

00:34:14   if that makes sense

00:34:15   yep

00:34:16   federico you and i have some bonus

00:34:19   round picks

00:34:20   we each have one

00:34:21   yes because we were we were correct

00:34:24   about stuff

00:34:26   yes in the past

00:34:27   ahead of our time

00:34:28   so we are we are eligible

00:34:29   for uh bonus picks

00:34:32   i'm screwed

00:34:33   what one each

00:34:34   one each

00:34:35   well

00:34:35   i'm totally cooked

00:34:37   i don't know i don't know i don't

00:34:39   know that you are necessarily

00:34:40   mike we'll see

00:34:41   uh my bonus round pick

00:34:44   is i'm i'm continuing down the

00:34:46   path of vision os

00:34:47   and i'm gonna say

00:34:48   at least one

00:34:50   vision os app

00:34:52   in compatibility mode

00:34:53   becomes a native one

00:34:56   so there's a long list of

00:34:58   of vision os apps that are

00:35:00   still ipad versions

00:35:01   i mean look at calendar

00:35:02   look at reminder

00:35:04   is remind

00:35:04   yeah i think remind

00:35:05   yeah some key

00:35:06   some key applications really

00:35:08   i mean

00:35:09   so i'm i'm hoping

00:35:11   that at least one

00:35:13   uh will graduate

00:35:14   from from the bare bones

00:35:16   ipad compatibility layer

00:35:18   into a fully

00:35:19   vision os native application

00:35:21   yeah

00:35:22   yeah

00:35:23   i mean you'd hope so

00:35:25   it's

00:35:26   i mean i mean

00:35:27   if it doesn't

00:35:29   i mean

00:35:29   that's

00:35:30   i mean i'm i'll be sad

00:35:32   to lose my bonus pick

00:35:33   but also you know

00:35:34   apple should be even sadder

00:35:36   i i guess

00:35:37   yeah

00:35:37   yeah

00:35:38   and uh

00:35:40   my bonus pick

00:35:41   is

00:35:42   that

00:35:43   are you are you second guessing

00:35:49   a little bit

00:35:50   just i'm second guessing my phrasing

00:35:52   but i'm gonna stick with it

00:35:53   the google gemini logo

00:35:55   is shown on screen

00:35:57   as part of a partnership announcement

00:35:59   is there one

00:36:01   there is a gemini logo

00:36:02   it's okay

00:36:03   it doesn't

00:36:04   it's like

00:36:05   there's a logo just says

00:36:06   the word gemini

00:36:07   no it's the sparkly blue thing

00:36:09   that they have

00:36:10   they have an icon

00:36:12   they have a logo

00:36:13   yeah

00:36:13   it's like a little star

00:36:14   kind of thing

00:36:15   yeah

00:36:15   what's the alternative

00:36:20   they're just gonna mention

00:36:21   google gemini

00:36:22   by name

00:36:22   without even

00:36:23   a slide

00:36:24   yeah

00:36:25   but i don't remember

00:36:26   if they showed

00:36:27   the open ai logo

00:36:28   they probably did

00:36:29   um

00:36:30   but it's

00:36:30   you know

00:36:30   the way i view this too

00:36:31   it's a bonus pick

00:36:32   so it's

00:36:33   it's all upside

00:36:34   really

00:36:34   it's all upside

00:36:35   um

00:36:36   the thing

00:36:38   the possibility

00:36:39   is that

00:36:39   it's not just google

00:36:41   right

00:36:41   that they integrate

00:36:42   and then

00:36:43   then you may struggle

00:36:44   right

00:36:45   where they're just like

00:36:45   and partners

00:36:46   and like they don't even

00:36:47   really get into it

00:36:48   yeah

00:36:48   um

00:36:49   but i i would expect

00:36:51   google gemini

00:36:52   is part of the operating system

00:36:53   so

00:36:54   it would

00:36:56   i think you

00:36:56   i think you're pretty solid

00:36:57   with this one

00:36:58   to be honest

00:36:59   yeah i think so too

00:37:00   i would say you're more solid

00:37:02   than my vision os

00:37:03   compatibility

00:37:04   i actually would agree

00:37:06   i actually would agree

00:37:07   poor vision os

00:37:09   i know

00:37:11   you want to give us

00:37:12   a recap steven

00:37:13   before we go to the break

00:37:14   yes

00:37:15   so round one

00:37:17   mike said

00:37:19   significantly new os design

00:37:20   on at least one platform

00:37:22   federico said

00:37:23   apple rebrands

00:37:25   version numbers

00:37:26   of its os's

00:37:27   i said

00:37:28   the new version of mac os

00:37:30   drops support

00:37:31   for some intel max

00:37:32   in round two

00:37:34   mike predicted

00:37:34   that new features

00:37:35   are announced

00:37:36   that are powered

00:37:37   by apple intelligence

00:37:38   federico said

00:37:39   the updated

00:37:40   vision os

00:37:41   gets an

00:37:42   eye scrolling

00:37:42   feature

00:37:43   and i said

00:37:44   ipad os

00:37:45   gets updated

00:37:46   window management

00:37:47   tools

00:37:48   and in the

00:37:49   bonus round

00:37:50   federico picked

00:37:52   at least one

00:37:53   vision os app

00:37:54   and compatibility

00:37:54   mode

00:37:55   becomes a

00:37:56   native one

00:37:56   now

00:37:57   and i said

00:37:58   the google gemini

00:37:58   logo is shown

00:37:59   on screen

00:38:00   as part of

00:38:01   a partnership

00:38:01   announcement

00:38:02   this episode

00:38:05   of connected

00:38:06   is brought

00:38:07   to you

00:38:07   by

00:38:07   netsuite

00:38:08   it's an

00:38:10   businesses

00:38:11   tariff and

00:38:12   trade policies

00:38:13   are dynamic

00:38:14   supply chains

00:38:15   are squeezed

00:38:16   and cash flow

00:38:17   that's tighter

00:38:18   than ever

00:38:19   and if your

00:38:20   business can't

00:38:21   adapt in real

00:38:22   time you're

00:38:22   going to be

00:38:23   in a world

00:38:24   of hurt

00:39:47   and that brings

00:39:50   us to our

00:39:51   risky picks

00:39:52   mike you're up

00:39:53   first

00:39:54   all right so

00:39:55   as a reminder

00:39:55   for listeners

00:39:56   the first part

00:39:57   that we say

00:39:57   is not scored

00:39:58   and then it's

00:39:59   the three

00:39:59   conditions

00:40:02   that's right

00:40:02   yes

00:40:02   yes

00:40:04   apple has a

00:40:06   new app

00:40:06   for gamers

00:40:07   okay

00:40:09   it's called

00:40:10   apple games

00:40:11   okay

00:40:12   that's one

00:40:13   that's condition

00:40:14   one it's called

00:40:14   apple that's condition

00:40:15   one condition

00:40:16   two it creates

00:40:18   new specific

00:40:19   developer terms

00:40:20   for games

00:40:20   okay

00:40:22   number three

00:40:23   it features a

00:40:25   partnership with

00:40:25   microsoft for

00:40:26   xbox game pass

00:40:27   that's the real

00:40:29   spice i think

00:40:30   yeah the first

00:40:31   two things right

00:40:32   so like apple

00:40:33   games you're

00:40:34   picking a name

00:40:34   it's a terrible

00:40:35   thing to do

00:40:35   you should never

00:40:36   pick a name

00:40:36   right

00:40:37   uh specific

00:40:39   developer terms

00:40:40   for games

00:40:41   i think that's

00:40:43   risky right

00:40:44   because this is

00:40:45   me just completely

00:40:46   basically what i'm

00:40:47   saying here is

00:40:48   this is where

00:40:48   games live now

00:40:49   right like

00:40:50   that's i think

00:40:52   they could do

00:40:52   here like

00:40:53   apps are in

00:40:53   the app store

00:40:54   games are in

00:40:55   apple games

00:40:55   um but the

00:40:57   last part

00:40:58   so my thinking

00:40:59   for this is

00:41:01   that

00:41:01   apple needs

00:41:04   partners as

00:41:06   much as they

00:41:07   can get them

00:41:07   for legal

00:41:09   reasons and

00:41:11   for just making

00:41:12   people feel

00:41:12   better right

00:41:13   microsoft

00:41:15   said they would

00:41:17   launch the

00:41:19   game store or

00:41:20   game pass

00:41:20   on apple's

00:41:23   platforms and

00:41:23   have not

00:41:26   done that and

00:41:27   have been a

00:41:27   bit wishy-washy

00:41:28   like oh it's

00:41:28   being held up

00:41:29   and you know

00:41:31   when we are not

00:41:31   there yet like

00:41:32   they're they're

00:41:33   being very like

00:41:34   ah don't worry

00:41:34   about it it's

00:41:35   happening or it's

00:41:36   not happening who

00:41:36   could tell i think

00:41:39   it would be very

00:41:39   interesting for

00:41:41   apple to make

00:41:42   partnerships that

00:41:43   they could offer in

00:41:44   like some kind of

00:41:45   bundle and

00:41:46   microsoft would

00:41:47   be the best

00:41:48   possible partner

00:41:49   to do that

00:41:50   with i think

00:41:50   i really like

00:41:53   this pic thank

00:41:54   you yeah

00:41:55   this is good

00:41:57   one uh

00:41:58   okay all

00:41:59   right so uh

00:42:01   mine okay so

00:42:02   the spice in

00:42:03   mine will be in

00:42:04   number two and

00:42:05   i will explain why

00:42:06   later okay so

00:42:07   the main text is

00:42:11   apple opens up

00:42:13   afm apple

00:42:14   foundation model

00:42:15   to developers

00:42:16   condition one

00:42:17   it's a three

00:42:19   billion parameter

00:42:20   version that

00:42:21   only runs on

00:42:22   device

00:42:22   number two

00:42:25   it's designed in

00:42:27   a way that only

00:42:28   specific quote

00:42:29   endpoints can

00:42:31   be used with a

00:42:32   native api like

00:42:33   some like

00:42:34   summarization for

00:42:35   writing or

00:42:36   prioritizing content

00:42:37   number three

00:42:39   apple shows up

00:42:40   examples of how

00:42:41   they're using the

00:42:42   same tech in

00:42:43   its own systems

00:42:44   apps so

00:42:45   my idea is

00:42:47   that they're

00:42:48   going to open

00:42:49   up their

00:42:49   foundation model

00:42:50   to developers

00:42:50   and there's

00:42:52   going to be a

00:42:53   small version that

00:42:54   is a three

00:42:54   billion parameter

00:42:55   model that runs

00:42:57   on device and

00:42:58   that's small

00:42:59   three billion

00:43:00   yeah it's small

00:43:01   okay three

00:43:02   three four

00:43:03   billion those are

00:43:03   usually the

00:43:04   phone optimized

00:43:06   models right

00:43:07   like deep seek

00:43:08   right wasn't that

00:43:09   well no like

00:43:10   google gemma for

00:43:11   example the

00:43:12   gemma which is

00:43:13   the open source

00:43:14   kind of version of

00:43:15   gemini as a

00:43:17   phone specific

00:43:18   version that is

00:43:19   the four billion

00:43:20   parameter but

00:43:21   currently apple

00:43:22   intelligence and

00:43:23   afm does have a

00:43:25   three billion

00:43:25   parameter like the

00:43:26   apple intelligence on

00:43:27   device that you have

00:43:28   now is powered by a

00:43:30   three billion

00:43:31   parameter version of

00:43:32   afm that runs on

00:43:33   your phone this is

00:43:34   this is i'm just

00:43:35   asking some interest

00:43:36   it is so the the

00:43:37   the thinking is

00:43:38   they're they

00:43:39   haven't got a new

00:43:39   one they're just

00:43:40   giving developers

00:43:41   access to their

00:43:42   existing it depends

00:43:43   i could see i could

00:43:44   see apple saying

00:43:45   well we have

00:43:45   version two of

00:43:46   afm or something

00:43:48   like we have a

00:43:49   new version like

00:43:49   a you know it's

00:43:53   not like a brand

00:43:54   new technology like

00:43:55   this no this is

00:43:56   what they have

00:43:56   before maybe maybe

00:43:58   they've refined it

00:43:59   you hope they've

00:43:59   refined it right

00:44:00   because they should

00:44:00   be yes yes yes

00:44:02   this currently exists

00:44:04   but it's only for

00:44:05   apple right it's

00:44:07   not open to

00:44:08   developers right

00:44:09   so the condition

00:44:10   number one says

00:44:10   it's a three billion

00:44:11   parameter version that

00:44:12   only runs on device

00:44:13   and condition three

00:44:14   and i'm leaving the

00:44:16   number two for last

00:44:17   condition three uh

00:44:18   says apple is going

00:44:19   to show off examples

00:44:20   of how they actually

00:44:22   implemented this in

00:44:24   some of their systems

00:44:24   apps system apps

00:44:26   number two here's

00:44:27   what i'm thinking

00:44:28   so i said it's

00:44:29   designed in a way

00:44:30   that only specific

00:44:31   endpoints can be

00:44:32   used with a native

00:44:32   api like

00:44:34   summarization or

00:44:35   writing or

00:44:36   prioritizing content

00:44:37   now what i'm

00:44:39   thinking is

00:44:40   i don't think

00:44:42   apple is going to

00:44:43   open up the model

00:44:44   in a way that

00:44:45   third-party developers

00:44:46   can just prompt

00:44:48   the model with

00:44:49   whatever they want

00:44:50   and sort of

00:44:51   emulate a chatbot

00:44:53   functionality

00:44:54   okay

00:44:54   i i don't think

00:44:56   they're gonna do

00:44:56   that in fact

00:44:57   i wouldn't be

00:44:59   surprised if

00:45:00   developers

00:45:01   developers

00:45:02   cannot prompt

00:45:03   afm

00:45:04   whatsoever

00:45:05   what i'm thinking

00:45:07   is there's going

00:45:07   to be an api

00:45:09   in the middle

00:45:09   that says

00:45:11   here's the api

00:45:12   for requesting a

00:45:13   summary

00:45:13   here's the api

00:45:14   for requesting

00:45:16   that you want to

00:45:16   prioritize these

00:45:18   things in your app

00:45:19   by importance

00:45:20   or something

00:45:20   you're gonna just

00:45:22   call the api

00:45:23   you're not writing

00:45:24   any prompt

00:45:25   you're not

00:45:26   injecting any

00:45:27   prompt

00:45:27   you're just

00:45:29   making a request

00:45:30   for afm

00:45:31   to do this

00:45:31   and we're gonna

00:45:32   give you the

00:45:33   results back

00:45:33   i don't think

00:45:35   they want

00:45:35   developers to

00:45:36   prompt

00:45:36   also because

00:45:38   i would believe

00:45:39   they would be

00:45:40   afraid of

00:45:40   prompt injection

00:45:41   attacks

00:45:42   absolutely

00:45:42   as they should

00:45:44   be

00:45:44   right

00:45:45   as they should

00:45:45   be

00:45:46   because it's

00:45:46   an unsolved

00:45:47   problem

00:45:47   i just think

00:45:49   they're gonna

00:45:50   say well now

00:45:50   you can take

00:45:51   advantage of the

00:45:52   same tech

00:45:53   but we're not

00:45:54   gonna make you

00:45:54   write

00:45:55   the system

00:45:55   prompt

00:45:56   you're just

00:45:56   gonna call

00:45:57   this i don't

00:45:58   know four

00:45:58   five specific

00:45:59   endpoints

00:46:00   with your

00:46:01   data

00:46:01   you're gonna

00:46:02   call the

00:46:03   summarization

00:46:03   endpoint

00:46:04   you're gonna

00:46:04   give us the

00:46:05   full text

00:46:05   we're just

00:46:06   gonna give you

00:46:06   the summarized

00:46:07   text in return

00:46:08   and there's

00:46:08   gonna be

00:46:09   parameters

00:46:09   that you can

00:46:10   tweak like

00:46:10   language or

00:46:11   length or

00:46:12   something but

00:46:13   you're not

00:46:13   gonna actually

00:46:14   write hey

00:46:15   afm i'm an

00:46:16   app developer

00:46:16   working on a

00:46:17   task manager

00:46:18   i want you

00:46:19   like no

00:46:20   you're not

00:46:21   you're not

00:46:22   gonna do that

00:46:23   instead there's

00:46:24   gonna be

00:46:25   an api

00:46:25   you can

00:46:25   call

00:46:26   to me

00:46:27   this feels

00:46:28   like the

00:46:28   most apple

00:46:30   way to do

00:46:30   this right

00:46:31   now given

00:46:32   the limitations

00:46:34   that they have

00:46:35   i think it's

00:46:35   also pretty

00:46:36   developer friendly

00:46:37   too i would i

00:46:38   would think so

00:46:39   where it's like

00:46:40   you know you

00:46:41   you you don't

00:46:43   have to try and

00:46:44   become a prompt

00:46:44   engineer here

00:46:45   yeah

00:46:45   yeah this is

00:46:47   just taking

00:46:48   things that

00:46:49   llms can

00:46:50   do we're

00:46:51   gonna do

00:46:52   them on

00:46:52   device and

00:46:53   we're gonna

00:46:54   do them in

00:46:54   like a logical

00:46:55   way yeah

00:46:56   for you and

00:46:57   i think this

00:46:58   this this makes

00:46:59   a lot of

00:46:59   sense i would

00:47:00   like i would

00:47:00   as a customer i

00:47:02   would feel happier

00:47:02   about this

00:47:03   happening than

00:47:04   every developer

00:47:05   writing some

00:47:06   weird prompt or

00:47:07   something forget

00:47:07   your apple

00:47:08   intelligence act

00:47:09   like bixby you

00:47:10   know like yeah

00:47:11   exactly exactly

00:47:12   exactly and

00:47:13   also like if

00:47:14   they open up

00:47:15   the full

00:47:15   prompting what

00:47:17   they risk is

00:47:19   uh developers

00:47:21   basically creating

00:47:22   a little chat

00:47:23   bot and

00:47:24   somebody coming

00:47:24   up and saying

00:47:25   hey you want

00:47:26   to see what

00:47:26   it's like to

00:47:27   have to have

00:47:28   an apple

00:47:28   intelligence chat

00:47:30   gpt here's

00:47:31   here's my

00:47:31   third party app

00:47:32   that lets you

00:47:33   have conversations

00:47:34   with afm on

00:47:35   device and it's

00:47:36   only powered by

00:47:37   apple intelligence

00:47:38   and it's gonna

00:47:38   suck right and

00:47:40   so i'm i'm

00:47:41   thinking that

00:47:41   maybe apple

00:47:42   wants to avoid

00:47:43   that um

00:47:44   which is why

00:47:45   i'm thinking

00:47:46   yeah it's just

00:47:46   gonna be a bunch

00:47:47   of different

00:47:47   apis that you

00:47:48   can call there's

00:47:49   no prompting you

00:47:50   just pass the

00:47:51   data and some

00:47:52   parameters and you

00:47:53   get some data in

00:47:54   return that's that's

00:47:56   my thinking really

00:47:57   cool i like this

00:47:58   a lot thank you

00:48:00   you know i could

00:48:01   imagine a scenario

00:48:02   too where they

00:48:05   make it part of

00:48:05   the approval

00:48:06   process like you

00:48:09   know they have

00:48:09   they done things in

00:48:10   the past where

00:48:10   like as an app

00:48:12   developer you can

00:48:13   use this

00:48:14   functionality but

00:48:14   you have to be

00:48:15   one of these

00:48:15   specific types of

00:48:16   apps like an

00:48:18   entitlement you

00:48:19   have to apply for

00:48:20   yeah i don't

00:48:22   know i hope i

00:48:22   hope not because

00:48:23   that stuff can get

00:48:24   messy for people

00:48:24   but yeah

00:48:25   i guess we'll see

00:48:29   yep yeah oh

00:48:31   steven this one

00:48:33   apple announces an

00:48:37   updated mac pro oh

00:48:40   my god oh my god

00:48:41   right for you

00:48:42   number one help

00:48:43   yourself okay the

00:48:44   starting price remains

00:48:46   at six thousand

00:48:47   nine hundred and

00:48:48   ninety nine dollars

00:48:48   that isn't that's

00:48:50   what okay the

00:48:52   starting system on a

00:48:54   chip is the apple

00:48:55   m3 ultra chip with

00:48:58   the 32 core cpu 80

00:49:00   core gpu and a 32

00:49:01   core neural engine

00:49:03   number three there

00:49:06   is a build to order

00:49:07   option that exceeds

00:49:09   the unified memory

00:49:10   available on the

00:49:11   mac studio which

00:49:12   currently tops out at

00:49:14   512 gigabytes

00:49:15   my god okay what i'll

00:49:20   say is you're really

00:49:21   lucky uh that the

00:49:23   rules for our game

00:49:25   are not based on just

00:49:27   what happens in the

00:49:28   keynote because i

00:49:30   think the only way

00:49:31   you get this is this

00:49:33   just appears later on

00:49:34   maybe that's what i

00:49:36   think that's what i

00:49:37   think uh so so my

00:49:39   thought my thought

00:49:39   here is right there's

00:49:40   been discussion on this

00:49:41   show and other places

00:49:42   about apple because of

00:49:44   their unified memory

00:49:45   architecture they

00:49:47   build pretty good

00:49:50   computers for running

00:49:51   local ai models right

00:49:53   so you're not running

00:49:54   it in the cloud you're

00:49:55   not you know having

00:49:57   that impact you're just

00:49:58   running it locally on

00:49:59   your desk right for

00:50:00   your own development or

00:50:01   your own research

00:50:02   whatever it might be

00:50:02   so that's like reason

00:50:06   one apple's you know

00:50:07   they could lean into

00:50:08   that more uh number

00:50:09   two federico in your

00:50:11   experience of this

00:50:11   you've written some

00:50:12   about this uh the

00:50:14   mac studio is pretty

00:50:15   good at that but you

00:50:16   can you can blow

00:50:18   through 512 gigabytes

00:50:19   of memory oh yeah

00:50:20   oh yeah yes and

00:50:22   number three the mac pro

00:50:25   needs a reason to live

00:50:26   and what if that reason

00:50:27   is to finally outpace

00:50:31   the mac studio in

00:50:33   something and we're not

00:50:36   getting the m4 ultra

00:50:37   maybe one reason we're

00:50:38   not because they focus

00:50:39   on the m3 ultra with

00:50:40   this in mind so it's

00:50:41   an m3 ultra but with

00:50:42   you know terabyte memory

00:50:44   or something i don't

00:50:45   know but i'm just i'm

00:50:47   leaning into it you

00:50:48   know it's it's uh it's

00:50:50   feeling good can i ask

00:50:52   you a question here you

00:50:53   said it needs a reason

00:50:54   to live my question is

00:50:55   does it i mean if it's

00:50:59   going to continue to

00:51:00   exist i think it does

00:51:01   um yeah but that's that

00:51:03   you know me i love to

00:51:05   question the mac pros as

00:51:06   a as a product i just

00:51:08   why what about the

00:51:13   mac pro though like

00:51:15   that they can do all

00:51:17   of this stuff why

00:51:17   can't they just do all

00:51:18   of this stuff in a mac

00:51:19   studio for two reasons

00:51:21   one the the mac pro is

00:51:23   more money and so they

00:51:24   can they like the

00:51:25   additional margin there

00:51:26   and so you can if this

00:51:29   is going to be a really

00:51:29   expensive computer why

00:51:31   can i start with a more

00:51:32   expensive price point but

00:51:33   secondly secondly you

00:51:35   will notice i just typed

00:51:36   in a phrase in the

00:51:37   document years ago five

00:51:41   years ago i won a point

00:51:43   because i guessed that

00:51:45   the initial apple silicon

00:51:47   rollout would include a

00:51:49   desktop because i had a

00:51:51   dream about an apple

00:51:52   silicon mac mini remember

00:51:55   this tim cook was on

00:51:56   stage well he called it a

00:51:58   bad little something he

00:51:59   did if i wish bad little

00:52:01   bad little b yeah i've had

00:52:05   a dream will be about

00:52:06   the mac pro you had a

00:52:08   dream oh no oh my god i

00:52:11   didn't put this in the

00:52:11   document until just now

00:52:12   because i wanted to i'm not

00:52:15   saying i'm a prophet but i

00:52:18   had not but i had a dream

00:52:20   that the mac pro came out

00:52:21   and someone noticed that the

00:52:24   option for the wheels was

00:52:26   less expensive than it had

00:52:28   been previously and i was

00:52:32   able to break the story

00:52:33   that they were less

00:52:35   expensive because the new

00:52:36   wheels were smaller because

00:52:38   i could measure what apple

00:52:39   had on the website for the

00:52:40   specs versus the original

00:52:42   set because i have a set of

00:52:44   mac pro wheels here in my

00:52:45   office that was your dream

00:52:47   that was my dream the dream

00:52:48   what a what a that was your

00:52:51   big break huh i made it back

00:52:55   on our you know our slash

00:52:56   apple with uh mac pro wheel

00:52:58   measurements wow hey look if

00:53:01   anyone's gonna do it it might

00:53:03   as well be 512 pixels you know

00:53:04   no no no you need to rephrase

00:53:06   that the only website that

00:53:08   would do that is photo they'll

00:53:11   all do it after me but not

00:53:12   link to me you know that's all

00:53:13   that's also true um so to be

00:53:18   to be fair uh-huh i could see

00:53:20   this prediction coming true

00:53:22   specifically if apple wants to

00:53:24   position the mac pro as a as a

00:53:26   like local ai development

00:53:28   computer um they're like

00:53:30   having tested the mac studio

00:53:32   and now understanding what the

00:53:35   high-end limits of the mac studio

00:53:36   can be i could totally see a mac

00:53:39   pro that has an m3 extreme or an

00:53:43   m3 how would they so basically

00:53:46   what i'm thinking is two m3

00:53:47   ultra chips together so call it i

00:53:50   don't know m3 m3 tandem ultra or

00:53:54   something um where it's two m3

00:53:57   ultras and you unlock one terabyte

00:54:00   of ram that thing will require a lot

00:54:03   of cooling because i can tell you

00:54:05   when you try and run the local

00:54:06   four-bit version of deep seek you

00:54:09   can hear the you can it gets toasty

00:54:11   and you can hear the mac studio like

00:54:13   i bet i bet you do it's like

00:54:14   yeah yeah i could the mac pro have

00:54:19   significantly more cooling than the

00:54:20   mac studio i'm assuming it does but

00:54:22   i don't know the answer to that yeah

00:54:23   it does they kept for for all the

00:54:26   ridiculousness that is that case

00:54:27   because you can't put anything in it

00:54:29   one thing they did keep is the

00:54:31   enormous heat sink that goes on top

00:54:33   of the it was on top of the xeon

00:54:34   right like in my old machine but it's

00:54:36   on top of the system on a chip and

00:54:38   those top fans blow away through that

00:54:40   giant heat sink and it's a lot more

00:54:42   cooling area than the studio could ever

00:54:44   do there's a lot of space in the case

00:54:46   for air yeah yeah i'm sure it helps

00:54:48   too not video cards but definitely air

00:54:50   yeah and so i could see them say here's a

00:54:54   computer for the highest possible end of

00:54:59   local ai development and basically the

00:55:01   pitch would be pretty simple at that

00:55:03   point they could just say this computer

00:55:05   lets you run 8-bit versions of large

00:55:10   language models which is basically

00:55:12   impossible to do now on a macbook pro or

00:55:14   even on the mac studio that i have on loan

00:55:16   from apple like you cannot do that on any

00:55:19   consumer computer

00:55:21   the fine consumer like something that you

00:55:27   as a person can can buy the parts to

00:55:30   build i don't think i can i don't think

00:55:33   i can run that with cuda on my 5090 if

00:55:37   i wanted to so the answer is no then

00:55:40   realistically right i could i could

00:55:42   glue to i could put together a little

00:55:45   homemade server farm with a bunch of

00:55:47   5090s but that at that point is that a

00:55:50   consumer level computer absolutely it's

00:55:52   not no no you've gone past what seems to

00:55:54   be logical um at that perspective yeah

00:55:58   they could say that and and sell it to a

00:56:01   bunch of people i guess so here's my

00:56:04   question for you steven why would they

00:56:07   have waited until now like why would

00:56:09   they not have just done this when they

00:56:10   had the mac studio do you think that's a

00:56:12   good question parts availability

00:56:14   importance yeah but can't you just

00:56:17   announce it at the same you know what i

00:56:19   mean it's like but yeah sure those are

00:56:21   reasons those are reasons the the big

00:56:24   brain thinking here and now we're well

00:56:26   beyond what steven said yeah we're just

00:56:29   like in it now steven's pick just got 25

00:56:33   conditions long we're the we're the only

00:56:37   apple podcast that talks about the mac pro so

00:56:39   that's true someone's got to do it so it

00:56:41   might as well be us might as well be us

00:56:42   well somebody's some someone's got to do

00:56:44   it with this kind of uh flavor you know

00:56:47   this kind of uh this kind of gusto so to

00:56:50   speak um the big brain thinking would be

00:56:54   and stay with me for a second so they

00:56:57   released this crazy powerful computer at

00:56:59   wwdc to developers they have a teaser and

00:57:03   i know i know apple was burned by teasers

00:57:07   before but stay with me they're going to

00:57:09   announce german mentioned there's going to

00:57:12   be there are multiple versions bigger

00:57:15   versions of afm in development like a

00:57:19   3 billion a 7 billion a 22 billion a

00:57:22   hundred and what did he mention like a

00:57:24   hundred and seventy billion something

00:57:26   parameter it's just all nothing at that

00:57:28   point right like what do you but what if

00:57:29   they said what if they said this computer

00:57:31   if you're a developer and you really want

00:57:35   to test apple intelligence you will be

00:57:37   able to download the big boy version of

00:57:41   afm on this computer and run it locally

00:57:43   yeah i don't think they can tease

00:57:47   anything right if it's not available

00:57:50   they can't talk about it or they shouldn't

00:57:52   it's going to be really it's going to be

00:57:54   really interesting right like well i have

00:57:56   i have a flexi about that so we'll see

00:57:59   we'll see because like you know federico

00:58:01   you're going you're going to be i'm sure

00:58:03   in briefings and stuff right yeah i'm sure

00:58:06   you're going to be like everybody else is

00:58:07   going to be be like all right show me

00:58:09   that you know it's like oh that thing

00:58:11   you said show me i don't believe you

00:58:13   show me like everyone's going to be

00:58:15   that that's the energy that every

00:58:17   journalist is going to have and it's

00:58:20   going to be very interesting to see how

00:58:21   that unfolds yeah well do we want to

00:58:25   recap the yeah yeah do a recap give us a

00:58:28   recap mike said apple has a new app for

00:58:32   gamers it's called apple games it creates

00:58:35   new specific developer terms for games and

00:58:40   it features a partnership with microsoft for

00:58:42   xbox game pass ferrico said apple opens up afm apple

00:58:47   foundation model to developers it's a 3 billion

00:58:51   parameter version that runs on device it's

00:58:55   designed in a way that only specific endpoints can

00:58:58   be used with a native api like summarization or

00:59:01   writing or prioritizing content and number

00:59:03   three apple shows off examples how they're using the

00:59:06   same tech and its own system apps then i wrote

00:59:10   apple announces an updated mac pro the starting

00:59:13   price remains at six thousand nine hundred ninety

00:59:16   nine dollars the starting system on the on the

00:59:20   starting system on a chip is the m3 ultra chip

00:59:22   with a 32 core cpu 80 core gpu and 32 core

00:59:27   neural engine there was a build to order option

00:59:29   that exceeds the unified memory available on the

00:59:32   mac studio which currently tops out at 512 gigabytes

01:01:25   the flexis is a game held after each edition of the rickies it consists of a series of additional

01:01:35   picks in relation to the upcoming apple event or year scoring is completed

01:01:40   separately from the main game but like the rickies the order of picks is set by

01:01:44   the results of the previous game and ties will be broken by using dice by

01:01:48   peacock please lie down as the rules are read

01:01:52   host must make a minimum of five flexi picks each correct pick is awarded with

01:02:05   one point wrong picks do not remove any points and no partial points may be awarded

01:02:10   the winner is determined by comparing the percentage of correct flexis made by each

01:02:16   host the winner can use their chosen title as long as they are the winner

01:02:20   federico shall be known as prince flexi and is known as king flexi when having won both

01:02:25   keynote and annual games mike has chosen duke of flexington and uses the name archduke

01:02:31   the flexington when applicable steven that's me is the attorney general flexi and uses the title

01:02:39   secretary of deflects when necessary loser of the flexis must compensate the winner of the flexis by

01:02:45   donating to a charity of the winner's choice the amount of the donation is 25 dollars per wrong

01:02:51   flexi made by the loser the money must be donated on air federico is the current winner of the keynote

01:02:58   flexis and if anyone holds all four titles that we offer they are allowed to choose their own nickname

01:03:04   okay i have a correction uh-oh i actually won the last flexis federico was second i thought that was wrong

01:03:16   when i read it so my apologies wow um so i get to go first i have made eight flexis

01:03:22   so far so far at least one new os is referred to by its old marketing name and developer documentation

01:03:33   or tools so it's ios 26 but xcode thinks it's ios 19 that looks so bad and yet it will happen

01:03:43   you know uh it's still xros is still all over the place like really yeah that's rough

01:03:51   number two there is no mac os developer beta by the time of recording why maybe the redesign took a

01:03:59   little bit longer okay image playgrounds is updated so upset and he took it so easily

01:04:07   easily why oh okay okay yeah it's fine that's good makes sense image playgrounds is updated to be not

01:04:15   quite as terrible okay we'll have to judge that okay yeah yeah at least one apple intelligence

01:04:23   feature is announced for watch os vision os gets a dark mode it's wild that it doesn't have one i know

01:04:33   yeah it's strange yeah the notes app it will like it's hurt your eyes it's blinding it's so bad

01:04:40   ios gets new home screen customization options like what uh not picked just wondering yeah um i think

01:04:50   what y'all talked about upgrade is like icon shapes is particularly interesting so you think the user

01:04:56   might get to make some choices there maybe maybe um also the other thing i thought about was maybe

01:05:01   tinting comes to light mode right now you can only tint when your icons are in dark mode

01:05:04   do you think that they may fix tinting where it doesn't where it's not terrible uh maybe that's

01:05:11   what i mean like i wonder i wonder if you know what i wonder if like it's one of those things where

01:05:16   when we see the new os it's like oh that's why they added that maybe you know like it's one of

01:05:21   those things that makes way more sense when you see it in the new place rather than the old place

01:05:26   maybe the tinting's pretty bad in my opinion yeah i don't like it uh number seven seven

01:05:35   automator remains wow shortcuts is the future of automation on the mac well not quite yet

01:05:43   number eight alan die is in the presentation to talk about the redesign that's a good one that's a good

01:05:52   one yeah okay i have six for now number one apple teases bigger versions of afm on the horizon okay

01:06:05   this is what you spoke about a minute ago yeah yeah number two apple hints that a new quote-unquote

01:06:14   glass-like material for its ui design is true to the nature of the hardware itself i'm just trying to

01:06:21   think like apple say no and we we chose this material to you know basically you know to be true to the

01:06:26   nature of the screens or something and if anyone says that alan dice says that i guess yeah yeah that's

01:06:32   what we're saying that boy's on uh linkedin look at this i just googled him because i was like did i

01:06:36   spell his name right yeah he's on linkedin lots of apple people are on i'm gonna i'm gonna follow him

01:06:41   send him a connection request connection request send without a note oh yeah there you go done

01:06:48   he's like oh my favorite blogger

01:06:51   how did he know about intel max you know

01:06:55   maybe keep it a secret

01:06:58   okay number three this is never gonna come true but i'm gonna say it regardless number three split

01:07:06   screen multitasking comes to the iphone 2 this is potentially like a year too early but whatever

01:07:11   yeah so i had a thought about this when i saw this flexi

01:07:14   uh i think next wbc there will be like signs that this is coming but they hold the actual

01:07:20   announcement for the foldable yeah well i just want to do top top bottom split screen yeah yeah you

01:07:28   could do that that's what i'm thinking yeah do that but we'll see uh number four more than enough

01:07:34   space on the max to do that oh yeah oh yeah really there is really very much so

01:07:40   um and number four swift assist is mentioned and promised again oh my god oh man this is like a

01:07:51   like a google io announcement basically we're gonna show it off again and promise again that it's coming

01:07:55   or like maybe they just

01:07:57   treat it like it's new

01:07:59   yeah

01:08:00   yeah

01:08:02   could be

01:08:02   hey look at this thing we've been working on

01:08:04   yeah

01:08:05   it's real cool guys

01:08:06   we're still working on it

01:08:07   yeah

01:08:08   it's almost ready

01:08:08   yeah

01:08:09   uh

01:08:10   this

01:08:10   it was yeah it was wbc it's like when do they not yeah

01:08:13   june 2024 there it is

01:08:15   yeah it was

01:08:16   yep

01:08:16   otj saw it in person and then it never shipped

01:08:20   yeah maybe he saw a quick time video of it you know

01:08:22   maybe

01:08:23   that's true

01:08:24   um

01:08:25   number five

01:08:26   the chat gpt integration with siri now has access to reasoning models

01:08:32   so i'm thinking like if if you have a chat gpt account and you log in you will be able to use i don't know

01:08:38   o3 or something for like longer requests and siri is going to show you the chat gpt is thinking

01:08:43   that's that was my right

01:08:44   um number six a disclaimer is added to some features um in the in the keynote video i guess

01:08:54   i should add

01:08:54   in the video

01:08:57   saying whether it's real footage or simulated

01:09:01   so i think apple is gonna i think apple is gonna have to do what game developers have been doing for a long time

01:09:09   there's gonna be a little disclaimer at the bottom saying real footage or simulated footage

01:09:14   because i really do think they cannot do an event with just the stuff that is launching in september

01:09:21   i think they they're gonna have to show off a bit of a road map but in doing so they will have to

01:09:28   to to to you know to take a hint from what the game industry is doing and say in a simulated footage

01:09:34   uh final feature may be different or something here's what i think is the problem here

01:09:38   yeah i think that all of their footage is simulated footage

01:09:43   well you know what i mean like they could say captured on device or

01:09:47   right basically like some kind of phrasing that says oh this is real or oh this is a simulation

01:09:53   this is like uh isn't everything a simulation

01:09:55   yes well think about it you know like where they're like uh not representative of final blah blah blah

01:10:02   right it's like yeah closed closed driver professional course

01:10:05   yeah

01:10:07   we've never seen this kind of disclaimer from apple and keynote videos before i think we're gonna see it now

01:10:14   okay

01:10:15   mike is that that's all of them because federica you said for now you're not adding any more yet

01:10:22   yeah not yet all right here are mine i have seven so far uh vision os gets support for vr game

01:10:31   controllers i'm gonna move one of mine up because it's like a second pick which is like a similar thing

01:10:36   uh apple announces a partnership with sony specifically for vr controllers as well so like

01:10:44   they are they have like an api or whatever you know you you can use them but then they also say

01:10:48   and we're partnering with sony to bring the playstation vr2 controllers

01:10:52   apple introduces the new os design with an animated video that shows the old look morphing into the new look

01:11:00   hmm

01:11:01   yeah i like that

01:11:02   right so like if things are stretching and expanding and like going from

01:11:07   like uh they're going from solid to clear or whatever it's gonna be you know

01:11:11   yeah oh i love it uh i'm i'm there for the animation animated genmoji

01:11:17   hmm so just so i understand we're we're texting about the state of the vision os app store and

01:11:28   yeah otj makes a little genmoji of a trash can on fire there could be like smoke coming out of the trash can

01:11:35   yeah okay just a hypothetical example number five image playgrounds can make terrible videos

01:11:43   oh no no no no no now look here's my thinking right they ship the bad images why would they not ship bad

01:11:52   videos it's just the everyone just goes to make the the will smith spaghetti video and it does it

01:11:57   yeah it does it like it did and it's just terrible like why would they not do it like they they did the

01:12:03   first thing why would they not do a second equally bad thing i am still happy that apple is not trying

01:12:10   to make photorealistic images i don't think they can i don't think their model can to be really clear

01:12:15   steven if they could they would i i hope not that that's really where i struggle is like

01:12:21   these things should not be making photorealistic images that that worries me in version one of their

01:12:26   tool they let you pick anybody in your life and make images of them i found out recently you could

01:12:32   have a baby they let you pick a baby they let you pick an infant your baby or just like a random

01:12:37   baby you found my baby that's good yeah it's bad it's terrible oh it's really bad um pick number six

01:12:47   apple partners with anthropic for xcode so this is the swift assistant okay so they show it off again

01:12:53   and they're like lol jk we got a real model and it's and it's anthropic it's clawed now don't forget

01:13:01   out of everything you know uh and seven people start to claim online that they have found evidence of a

01:13:08   folding phone oh like in the code or something or whatever like so here's one is my pick right this

01:13:15   is why it's a flexi i think people might just start saying it like you know like how they're like oh that

01:13:22   means you're gonna have multitasking right with with the ipad it's just like not even necessarily

01:13:27   you found code i just said i expect i will be able to come to the episode with proof that people are

01:13:33   saying a folding phone is coming based on something this is a very weird pick many people are saying many

01:13:39   people are saying they won't stop talking about it why is everyone talking about this what exactly why

01:13:46   are they talking about it because it's not true oh i i like that i i that that's that's a fun flexi
