00:09:06 ◼   ► information into our show notes because there were just there were three things that

00:09:09 ◼   ► jumped out at me, and then I thought actually I'm gonna write a blog

00:09:11 ◼   ► post about this instead, um, because I thought it was interesting.

00:09:15 ◼   ► There were like three narratives that stuck out that I wanted to go through

00:09:18 ◼   ► them with you all and read this as quotes.

00:09:20 ◼   ► So John has overseen engineering work on a variety of groundbreaking products and was

00:09:25 ◼   ► instrumental in the introduction of new product lines.

00:09:27 ◼   ► This to me felt like the way that so all of this I assume

00:09:31 ◼   ► is like the way that Apple wants to sell him to us.

00:09:33 ◼   ► Like this is the first kind of instance of how he will be presented

00:09:37 ◼   ► as the CEO.

00:09:38 ◼   ► And this was the one that I expected and I think everyone expected.

00:09:42 ◼   ► He is a product guy, and they want us to know that, right?

00:09:45 ◼   ► He it was instrumental in the introduction of multiple new product lines, and they

00:09:51 ◼   ► list them, right?

00:09:51 ◼   ► And say, Oh, yeah, no, okay.

00:09:53 ◼   ► Like they w they want you to know this guy's a product CEO, that's

00:09:56 ◼   ► what we've got.

00:09:57 ◼   ► But then there was also John has led much of the company's focus in

00:10:01 ◼   ► areas like reliability and durability, including new techniques that have made Apple products remarkably

00:10:07 ◼   ► resilient.

00:10:08 ◼   ► That's interesting, right?

00:10:10 ◼   ► Like talking about kind of resiliency.

00:10:14 ◼   ► I wondered if they're kind of hinting at repairability here too.

00:10:17 ◼   ► I wasn't sure, but it felt I got that feeling.

00:10:20 ◼   ► And it's like, oh, I wonder if that is actually something that he truly

00:10:23 ◼   ► cares about, like as an individual.

00:10:25 ◼   ► Like, does he really care about the products being like tough?

00:10:29 ◼   ► It's good for customers.

00:10:30 ◼   ► And also it's also, yeah, it's a good thing to say, especially when computers

00:10:33 ◼   ► are getting more expensive.

00:10:35 ◼   ► Yes.

00:10:35 ◼   ► And here you have, oh, the new CEO actually cares about making computers last

00:10:39 ◼   ► more, which means that you know, over time, I like I'm not being forced

00:10:43 ◼   ► to spend more money.

00:10:44 ◼   ► And like, you know, uh, what what's the term like forced to obsolete?

00:10:44 ◼   ► Like what's uh planned obsolescence.

00:10:50 ◼   ► Planned obsolescence, like it's always been a thing that people say about Apple, and

00:10:55 ◼   ► having a new CEO presented with this, you know, characteristics, it's it's you know,

00:11:00 ◼   ► it's good marketing.

00:11:01 ◼   ► Yeah, and also that uh he has also driven much of Apple's innovative innovation

00:11:06 ◼   ► and materials and hardware design that have reduced the carbon footprint of its products.

00:11:10 ◼   ► And I was pleased to hear this.

00:11:12 ◼   ► Like, you know, the environment felt very much like a Tim Cook thing, right?

00:11:16 ◼   ► Like he he clearly cared about that.

00:11:18 ◼   ► That was something the company started focusing on way more, and like setting setting

00:11:23 ◼   ► pledges and kind of leading the industry in ways that some of their competitors

00:11:27 ◼   ► do not, and like especially now, many of their competitors have forgotten everything they've

00:11:31 ◼   ► ever said about the environment because everybody wants to build massive data centers, and

00:11:36 ◼   ► so I was pleased that they mentioned this here, at least kind of like

00:11:41 ◼   ► setting the idea that this is also important to him.

00:11:44 ◼   ► So yeah, I just thought that overall this was a very interesting look into

00:11:52 ◼   ► it's either the combo of who he is or what Apple want you to

00:11:58 ◼   ► think about with him, or both, and I think that's all this kind of

00:12:02 ◼   ► the same, even if it's different, you know what I mean?

00:12:05 ◼   ► Like, no matter who he is, if that's what they're telling you, that's what

00:12:08 ◼   ► he's gonna focus on.

00:12:10 ◼   ► So, and I liked the sound of all of this, so yeah, interesting stuff.

00:12:38 ◼   ► Jude for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

00:12:48 ◼   ► Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable.

00:12:55 ◼   ► Today, thanks in part to better therapies, St.

00:12:58 ◼   ► Jude has helped develop more than 80% of U.S.

00:13:01 ◼   ► childhood cancer patients survive.

00:13:04 ◼   ► Jude cares for some of the world's sickest children, regardless of their race, ethnicity,

00:13:10 ◼   ► beliefs, or ability to pay.

00:13:12 ◼   ► Its patients receive the customized care they need to treat childhood cancer and other

00:13:17 ◼   ► life-threatening diseases, no matter what barriers they face.

00:13:59 ◼   ► Like you you would think the place where all of the children that you're

00:14:03 ◼   ► encountering, they're sick.

00:14:05 ◼   ► But actually, these kids have hope, and so do their families.

00:14:09 ◼   ► And that is because of the incredible work that St.

00:14:12 ◼   ► Jude does in finding cures for these kids, but also it's the environment that

00:14:16 ◼   ► they create.

00:14:14 ◼   ► It doesn't feel like a hospital.

00:14:19 ◼   ► I think I mean not I think I know the efforts that St.

00:14:22 ◼   ► Jude go to to try and make their environments not feel like hospitals.

00:14:28 ◼   ► Um and there's i i it comes that we've spoken about this so many

00:14:31 ◼   ► times, but it is so emblematic of what I'm talking about, which is the

00:14:35 ◼   ► little red wagons that are rolling all around the hospital all the time with

00:14:38 ◼   ► happy kids inside of them.

00:14:40 ◼   ► Because they try not to move kids around in what look like medical equipment

00:14:44 ◼   ► unless they absolutely have to, because they want these kids to feel like kids.

00:14:47 ◼   ► And isn't it more fun to be in a red wagon than in a

00:14:50 ◼   ► hospital bed?

00:14:51 ◼   ► Right?

00:14:51 ◼   ► Like these it's little things like this, little touches like this, which are so

00:14:55 ◼   ► important.

00:14:56 ◼   ► But then also Saint, you know, the the Saint Jude campus is a hospital,

00:15:00 ◼   ► it's a research center in a hospital, but it also has accommodations now.

00:15:04 ◼   ► Really fun accommodations.

00:15:05 ◼   ► We got to go look around one last year and it felt like we

00:15:08 ◼   ► were at the beach or something, right?

00:15:10 ◼   ► Like the really beautifully themed places where these families can stay in together while

00:15:16 ◼   ► they're someone in their family, you know, brother, sister, child, is getting treatment, life-saving

00:15:22 ◼   ► treatment.

00:15:23 ◼   ► And they can be together, they can eat together, they can meet people from

00:15:26 ◼   ► all over the world, like other families, they can have birthday parties, they can

00:15:29 ◼   ► live the life that they want to live while they're also getting the life-saving

00:15:32 ◼   ► treatment that they need.

00:15:34 ◼   ► Um, all of this stuff costs a lot of money.
