329: He`s More Man than Puppet

00:00:01   the incomparable [TS]

00:00:05   number 329 December 2016 welcome back [TS]

00:00:13   everybody to be uncomfortable i'm your [TS]

00:00:15   host Jason Snell and it's that time of [TS]

00:00:17   year it's December you know what that [TS]

00:00:18   means star war is yep its star wars [TS]

00:00:22   season from now until forever until it [TS]

00:00:24   becomes unprofitable and although we are [TS]

00:00:26   going to do a couple episodes about road [TS]

00:00:28   one once it comes out i thought i would [TS]

00:00:30   take this time II [TS]

00:00:32   early in december for us to talk about [TS]

00:00:34   something happy and heartwarming about [TS]

00:00:36   Star Wars and that is why i am [TS]

00:00:38   presenting to you the uncomfortable Star [TS]

00:00:41   Wars travesty draft in which we will [TS]

00:00:44   choose mostly things that are kind of [TS]

00:00:47   bad about the thing we love which is [TS]

00:00:49   star wars in different categories [TS]

00:00:51   joining me to discuss travesties of star [TS]

00:00:54   wars are these people who are not [TS]

00:00:56   travesties at all [TS]

00:00:58   dan more'n hi Dan hi Jason good to have [TS]

00:01:01   you here Joe steel hello hello Monty [TS]

00:01:05   Ashley hi hello John siracusa may the [TS]

00:01:08   force be with you [TS]

00:01:09   I comfort myself by thinking this [TS]

00:01:11   episode can't be as bad as the holiday [TS]

00:01:13   special episode David Sparkes is here [TS]

00:01:15   hi David hi Jason good to hear happy to [TS]

00:01:17   be here [TS]

00:01:18   the force is strong or is it and David [TS]

00:01:20   lower happy life day everyone alright [TS]

00:01:23   here's how this is gonna work we have a [TS]

00:01:25   bunch of different rounds in each round [TS]

00:01:27   will be a category i have randomized are [TS]

00:01:29   picking order it will advance by one as [TS]

00:01:32   we move through the round so not [TS]

00:01:33   everybody you know everybody get a [TS]

00:01:35   chance to pick first in each of the [TS]

00:01:37   categories as we go [TS]

00:01:39   it's all handled randomly blame [TS]

00:01:41   random.org wait even you know you're [TS]

00:01:44   giving away the secret is I'm always [TS]

00:01:45   last [TS]

00:01:47   everybody else rotates i will always be [TS]

00:01:49   last because I'm your host and hostess [TS]

00:01:51   that would be not host like to go [TS]

00:01:54   anything but last so our first category [TS]

00:01:57   around one of the travesty draft is this [TS]

00:02:00   and this is the this is what started it [TS]

00:02:02   all the concept that started at all [TS]

00:02:04   which is I want everybody to pick a [TS]

00:02:06   change to an existing Star Wars work [TS]

00:02:10   made after it was originally released [TS]

00:02:12   this is your opportunity to pick apart [TS]

00:02:15   terrible things about the star wars [TS]

00:02:17   special editions [TS]

00:02:19   for us to discuss we will also if you [TS]

00:02:21   have comments about someone else's pic [TS]

00:02:22   feel free you can you can make those [TS]

00:02:24   it's meant to be a discussion and not [TS]

00:02:25   just a dr list of things because that [TS]

00:02:27   would be a boring podcast Dan Morgan [TS]

00:02:29   what would you like to choose as a bad [TS]

00:02:32   change i get to go first in this round [TS]

00:02:34   well in that case i'm going to take [TS]

00:02:37   probably the most obvious choice right [TS]

00:02:39   off the table which is of course the [TS]

00:02:41   change to grito shooting first I think [TS]

00:02:45   we can all understand pretty easily why [TS]

00:02:47   it's a terrible terrible change not only [TS]

00:02:49   does it totally ruin the sort of [TS]

00:02:51   narrative arc this Han Solo [TS]

00:02:53   devil-may-care Rogan scoundrel but it [TS]

00:02:56   looks terrible [TS]

00:02:58   it just looks really bad i remember [TS]

00:02:59   watching it in the theater and thinking [TS]

00:03:01   as they had this weird little like head [TS]

00:03:03   jerk almost that Harrison Ford seems to [TS]

00:03:05   do to avoid video shooting him you know [TS]

00:03:07   that it's like well what was that like [TS]

00:03:10   it looks it just looks terrible [TS]

00:03:12   it's it's implausible to me that even [TS]

00:03:14   someone is inept as grito could miss a [TS]

00:03:17   shot from the truth feet away like [TS]

00:03:19   that's that's pretty dumb and and the [TS]

00:03:22   whole rationale behind it seemed [TS]

00:03:24   ridiculous as well I mean it seemed like [TS]

00:03:27   the only sort of pathetic or you know [TS]

00:03:29   explanation they can give is that they [TS]

00:03:31   didn't want Han Solo to be the kind of [TS]

00:03:33   guy who would shoot someone down in cold [TS]

00:03:35   blood and it just seems to me like I ate [TS]

00:03:38   it seems so unbelievable and it seemed [TS]

00:03:40   so damning to his character to have him [TS]

00:03:43   be more via you know to not have him be [TS]

00:03:48   that kind of cold shrewd calculating guy [TS]

00:03:50   that I feel like it just seems it seems [TS]

00:03:53   crazy it seems crazy and so I you know I [TS]

00:03:56   obviously it's spawned many means and [TS]

00:04:00   it's a two-point great contention for [TS]

00:04:02   star wars fans with the with George [TS]

00:04:04   Lucas but yeah it harkens back to that [TS]

00:04:07   that brief change I think they changed [TS]

00:04:09   it back when et where they took out the [TS]

00:04:11   guns right when the walkie-talkies and I [TS]

00:04:14   think they changed it back at a [TS]

00:04:15   subsequent versions of their names like [TS]

00:04:17   well that's that's dumb [TS]

00:04:19   I'm so yeah same George Lucas [TS]

00:04:20   unfortunately did not get quite the [TS]

00:04:22   benefit of that later hindsight but yeah [TS]

00:04:24   I think we can all agree that among [TS]

00:04:26   travesties that is perhaps the one of [TS]

00:04:28   the greatest travesties of the [TS]

00:04:30   specializations i agree that was mine [TS]

00:04:31   berwyn pick as a wise man once said [TS]

00:04:34   everybody knows the greater never even [TS]

00:04:36   fired 100 services sets up his entire [TS]

00:04:38   mortal journey [TS]

00:04:40   plus it's cool it is cool he's exactly [TS]

00:04:42   the kind of guy who shoots in that [TS]

00:04:44   scenario come on he has a moral journey [TS]

00:04:46   but doesn't have a moral journey if he [TS]

00:04:48   starts off a good guy ends up a good guy [TS]

00:04:49   yeah exactly well that's a great choice [TS]

00:04:52   I think we all have to tip our cap to [TS]

00:04:54   Dan who was randomly selected to choose [TS]

00:04:56   a grieving father set and now we move on [TS]

00:05:00   to Jojo do you have a special edition [TS]

00:05:01   change that you would like to throw on [TS]

00:05:03   the bonfire that already has Darth [TS]

00:05:05   Vader's toasty body on it but let's [TS]

00:05:07   throw some other things on there [TS]

00:05:08   I do however it's not strictly speaking [TS]

00:05:11   a special addiction it's the version [TS]

00:05:13   from 2011 change that George Lucas made [TS]

00:05:17   when he was releasing the blu-rays [TS]

00:05:18   they're all special Joe they're all [TS]

00:05:20   special editions and they certainly have [TS]

00:05:22   a special place somewhere and [TS]

00:05:24   anatomically speaking but this [TS]

00:05:26   particular change in sense to me because [TS]

00:05:28   I didn't know about it until he was [TS]

00:05:30   watching the digital version last year [TS]

00:05:32   to do our episode and the focus and they [TS]

00:05:35   have grafted in the know from episode 3 [TS]

00:05:40   the infamous know that no yeah they [TS]

00:05:43   grafted that in to a scene that had a [TS]

00:05:46   emotional gravity probably one of the [TS]

00:05:49   better parts of Return of the Jedi where [TS]

00:05:52   everything comes to a head and it's the [TS]

00:05:53   Emperor luke and vader and it's turning [TS]

00:05:56   Vader against the Emperor and saving [TS]

00:05:58   Luke and they totally botched it [TS]

00:06:01   I I absolutely loathe that there is no [TS]

00:06:03   reason that change needed to exist and [TS]

00:06:06   it just it sullies what otherwise is [TS]

00:06:09   probably one of the the pivotal pump [TS]

00:06:12   points of the entire three movies that [TS]

00:06:16   you the first we'll see [TS]

00:06:18   so i just i don't understand the [TS]

00:06:19   changing on it infuriates every just so [TS]

00:06:23   angry flames flames on the side of my [TS]

00:06:25   head he says it twice to that's the [TS]

00:06:26   worst part is like as he's looking he [TS]

00:06:29   says and it's so on-the-nose is no very [TS]

00:06:32   shortly and it's like really and then he [TS]

00:06:34   and then he grabbed the Emperor go to [TS]

00:06:35   know [TS]

00:06:36   oh and throws him and and doesn't seem [TS]

00:06:38   like someone just trolling all of us and [TS]

00:06:41   I'm the Emperor else to when he goes [TS]

00:06:42   down the shaft [TS]

00:06:43   it's just awful makes me so angry [TS]

00:06:45   because it's one of those things just [TS]

00:06:46   like a damn had said there's the [TS]

00:06:49   execution of an idea and there's the the [TS]

00:06:52   concept of an idea in this case it [TS]

00:06:55   doesn't matter how perfectly they had [TS]

00:06:57   executed this if it didn't seem like it [TS]

00:07:00   was recycled stuff that was added later [TS]

00:07:01   it's still just conceptually is flawed [TS]

00:07:03   and there's no reason for that dialogue [TS]

00:07:05   to exist [TS]

00:07:06   he's just he's very obvious that he's [TS]

00:07:09   throwing him over the thing he doesn't [TS]

00:07:10   need to be so literal when he's a man [TS]

00:07:12   he's saying what he's gonna do like and [TS]

00:07:14   now i will throw the Emperor over this i [TS]

00:07:16   am for her go away and you can kind of [TS]

00:07:19   see that their blood their weird [TS]

00:07:21   rationale there was like well he's [TS]

00:07:22   wearing a mask so you can see this [TS]

00:07:24   journey plywood on his famous saying [TS]

00:07:26   that mask is so expressive i agree with [TS]

00:07:28   you John I feel like it is very [TS]

00:07:29   expensive i think that's their flawed [TS]

00:07:31   reasoning for it the mask is more [TS]

00:07:32   expressive than any of the actors who [TS]

00:07:34   played the character well Joe that was [TS]

00:07:37   on my list i watch those i watch the [TS]

00:07:38   before-and-after earlier today it is [TS]

00:07:40   ridiculous and I I spent so much time [TS]

00:07:42   with the specialized positions now that [TS]

00:07:44   I had never had heard about it but I'd [TS]

00:07:46   never seen it it is [TS]

00:07:48   yes flames anger it's so terrible i [TS]

00:07:51   think i saw the YouTube clip of it that [TS]

00:07:53   was it huh [TS]

00:07:54   it's so terrible for more seriously [TS]

00:07:55   about about the mask being expressive [TS]

00:07:57   like we say that because we have empathy [TS]

00:07:59   with the character remember watching it [TS]

00:08:00   but that empathy obvious doesn't cover [TS]

00:08:02   the mask which doesn't actually move it [TS]

00:08:03   comes entirely from the plot that has [TS]

00:08:06   led up to that the camera you know the [TS]

00:08:08   editing and when they show him the [TS]

00:08:10   Emperor than him the Emperor and the [TS]

00:08:11   music and like there's so much there you [TS]

00:08:13   don't need you don't need any facial [TS]

00:08:15   expression established because that mass [TS]

00:08:17   does not change shape at all there's [TS]

00:08:19   subtext right and then this erases that [TS]

00:08:21   in favor of like let's just bring it all [TS]

00:08:23   out on the table and so you didn't you [TS]

00:08:25   didn't need anything in his face and [TS]

00:08:26   they're like well we don't we don't have [TS]

00:08:28   faced can we make him just say what his [TS]

00:08:29   teeth but he's feeling we haven't just [TS]

00:08:31   say it [TS]

00:08:32   yes and we have any audio of that [TS]

00:08:33   actually we do have some audio of that [TS]

00:08:35   word so such bad decision-making well i [TS]

00:08:38   would i would say in addition to the [TS]

00:08:40   music and the cutting you know and the [TS]

00:08:42   camera angles i think there's even some [TS]

00:08:45   good body language that David Prowse [TS]

00:08:49   yes that shows you his tension and he [TS]

00:08:53   keep you know he keeps looking and [TS]

00:08:54   turning and it's it's you can see the [TS]

00:08:57   whole dilemma on Darth Vader's face [TS]

00:09:00   basically in his body language totally [TS]

00:09:03   unnecessary terrible yeah and I mean it [TS]

00:09:06   it's another thing where Lucas got to a [TS]

00:09:08   point where he didn't want to let the [TS]

00:09:10   audience put the pieces together and [TS]

00:09:13   that was a moment that was great for [TS]

00:09:15   that but of course it was directed by [TS]

00:09:17   someone else [TS]

00:09:17   there's a bit of subtext that that [TS]

00:09:20   turned into text like like everything in [TS]

00:09:22   the prequels a little bit of [TS]

00:09:23   preeclampsia Vader was going to be the [TS]

00:09:25   kind of character for mumbles his [TS]

00:09:26   motivations out loud [TS]

00:09:28   under his breath constantly that's no [TS]

00:09:30   Vader right know it [TS]

00:09:31   this is also many years after everyone [TS]

00:09:34   was outraged by the the original know so [TS]

00:09:37   it's not like George Lucas was oblivious [TS]

00:09:38   to the fact that people like it's like [TS]

00:09:41   it's the right despite people don't like [TS]

00:09:43   that no guess what your heart it's [TS]

00:09:44   totally a troll guys [TS]

00:09:46   yeah well he's he's totally control so [TS]

00:09:48   that makes Monte what's a what's a [TS]

00:09:52   change to an existing work that really [TS]

00:09:54   bugs you [TS]

00:09:55   well joe went for a change that was [TS]

00:09:59   after the special editions the one [TS]

00:10:01   that's always bothered me is from before [TS]

00:10:02   the special editions Empire Strikes Back [TS]

00:10:06   came out in 1980 and then the original [TS]

00:10:08   movie star wars was re-released on April [TS]

00:10:11   10 1981 and that's when it was renamed [TS]

00:10:14   to star wars episode 4 colon a new hope [TS]

00:10:18   now I don't find the episode 4 part but [TS]

00:10:20   i'm not calling that movie a new hope no [TS]

00:10:23   one knows what you mean that movie is [TS]

00:10:24   called Star Wars yep and it's really [TS]

00:10:27   weird to change the name of your movie [TS]

00:10:29   four years after you made it [TS]

00:10:31   it's the biggest movie in the world [TS]

00:10:34   people its branded already it's too late [TS]

00:10:38   how do you feel about indiana jones and [TS]

00:10:39   the raiders along I kills me that causes [TS]

00:10:43   me alphabetization problems everyday but [TS]

00:10:45   if you watch raiders of the lost ark [TS]

00:10:47   they didn't change the title in the [TS]

00:10:49   movie [TS]

00:10:50   yeah just on the box but they changed [TS]

00:10:52   the title of star wars 2 episode for a [TS]

00:10:56   new hope on screen during the running of [TS]

00:10:59   the movie and I I people who notice that [TS]

00:11:02   we know we have [TS]

00:11:03   people here who call it a new hope John [TS]

00:11:04   calls a new hope I i we have a service [TS]

00:11:06   i'm not one of those people i am a star [TS]

00:11:08   wars person that movie is called Star [TS]

00:11:11   Wars that's the name of the movie [TS]

00:11:13   see here's the thing is like as someone [TS]

00:11:15   who is younger and like really I mean I [TS]

00:11:17   didn't see it in theaters right so most [TS]

00:11:18   of my ex you know I i was exposed video [TS]

00:11:21   on the video tapes & and so basically i [TS]

00:11:23   had seen it as that for my entire life [TS]

00:11:25   and and just when talking about it with [TS]

00:11:27   friends [TS]

00:11:28   it was always simpler to call we just [TS]

00:11:29   call aah because like if you said Star [TS]

00:11:32   Wars you know you well you know terms [TS]

00:11:35   it's in precise right like you can [TS]

00:11:36   referring to the whole frame the whole [TS]

00:11:38   franchise and its own just to be you [TS]

00:11:40   know avoid confusion we used to be used [TS]

00:11:42   to just call it an image and that's why [TS]

00:11:44   I called me up on podcasts like I grew [TS]

00:11:46   up going star wars and i always think of [TS]

00:11:47   it as stars but for the purpose of [TS]

00:11:49   discussing movies on podcast especially [TS]

00:11:51   when were usually discussing like the [TS]

00:11:52   entire series right that's why I'm [TS]

00:11:54   calling in to help because it [TS]

00:11:55   distinguishes it immediately think I've [TS]

00:11:57   never called episode 4 [TS]

00:11:59   honestly I never call it episode 4 I [TS]

00:12:01   would never find myself doing because [TS]

00:12:02   the episode thing I reserve entirely for [TS]

00:12:05   the people haha but i do like how the [TS]

00:12:08   prequels have taken over so if you say [TS]

00:12:09   episode one never knows what you mean [TS]

00:12:11   episode 1 [TS]

00:12:12   everyone groans and God knows what you [TS]

00:12:14   mean but the confusion of whether that [TS]

00:12:16   movie or the series called Star Wars is [TS]

00:12:18   George Lucas's fault and he made that [TS]

00:12:20   decision and it came out in April 10 [TS]

00:12:22   1981 and if he'd done anything else and [TS]

00:12:25   just left that will be called Star Wars [TS]

00:12:26   everything would be better we call to [TS]

00:12:29   start two wars star wars ER start with [TS]

00:12:33   the motion picture first one is star [TS]

00:12:35   wore the sequel star wore out that for [TS]

00:12:38   you and the stars and more until [TS]

00:12:39   everyone is a great star wars list [TS]

00:12:42   alright these are great uh you know [TS]

00:12:45   nobody has disappointed me John what's [TS]

00:12:46   up people of the stolen a lot of my [TS]

00:12:48   stuff so I got back from my backup Syria [TS]

00:12:50   think I'm gonna have to know it's a swap [TS]

00:12:55   of the order here and i'm going to go [TS]

00:12:56   with adding java to Mos Eisley in a new [TS]

00:13:01   hope also noticed [TS]

00:13:02   also on my list right so that was filmed [TS]

00:13:05   like it's originally filmed him he [TS]

00:13:07   wanted to do it come with the big guy [TS]

00:13:08   wearing the the fur coat and everything [TS]

00:13:10   and you know now we have the technology [TS]

00:13:11   we go back and we can add that scene [TS]

00:13:13   kind of like the grito seen it looks [TS]

00:13:17   really bad another two versions of this [TS]

00:13:19   both of them look really bad because it [TS]

00:13:22   was shot with you know Harrison Ford [TS]

00:13:25   walking around the guy with the fur coat [TS]

00:13:27   and so they lay in Java not really to [TS]

00:13:30   the right scale because he's got to kind [TS]

00:13:32   of fit in the shot with him [TS]

00:13:33   yeah and then they have him walk behind [TS]

00:13:35   him and go over his tail and this crazy [TS]

00:13:37   cut-and-paste where they floats up in [TS]

00:13:39   the air goes back down like so that says [TS]

00:13:42   the terriblest but also it's pointless [TS]

00:13:44   because it doesn't add any urgency to [TS]

00:13:46   haunt situation like we we know he's on [TS]

00:13:49   the run we always got problems us seeing [TS]

00:13:51   the person who he owes money to branches [TS]

00:13:54   down the tension up because Java is not [TS]

00:13:57   impressive or intimidating or scary and [TS]

00:13:59   and if you're a crime lord you don't [TS]

00:14:01   show up yourself right that's why grito [TS]

00:14:03   is there it's like there's a bounty on [TS]

00:14:04   him job doesn't come out there and slid [TS]

00:14:06   his way into the hangar and and give him [TS]

00:14:08   a stern talking-to and then he goes on [TS]

00:14:09   his way it undercuts the entire thing [TS]

00:14:11   and it looks terrible and when I think [TS]

00:14:13   of what they've done to that the you [TS]

00:14:17   know to the entire trilogy but [TS]

00:14:19   specifically the star wars it really [TS]

00:14:21   bothers me that the that scene is there [TS]

00:14:23   like I just I just really just skip over [TS]

00:14:25   don't watch it [TS]

00:14:26   dialogue wise it's very clear that at [TS]

00:14:28   some point after they shot the job scene [TS]

00:14:30   they realize they were going to use it [TS]

00:14:32   and move dialogue into the grito scene [TS]

00:14:36   and so there's duplicated dialogue it [TS]

00:14:38   literally makes no sense that they have [TS]

00:14:40   the same conversation twice they added [TS]

00:14:42   it back in didn't trim the dialogue in [TS]

00:14:44   the gross in which is fine because they [TS]

00:14:45   shouldn't do that but it you watch it as [TS]

00:14:48   a you know vaguely attentive viewer and [TS]

00:14:51   you can see they're just saying the same [TS]

00:14:53   things again it doesn't make any sense [TS]

00:14:55   it should not be in the movie it [TS]

00:14:57   undercuts to return of the jedi because [TS]

00:14:58   return the Jedi seeing job of the fact [TS]

00:15:00   that you know that's a reveal and why [TS]

00:15:02   would render it looks now it's tied [TS]

00:15:04   together job isn't just made up of the [TS]

00:15:05   third movie was in the first movie look [TS]

00:15:07   here is we knew exactly what he was [TS]

00:15:08   going to like you know you didn't he had [TS]

00:15:10   a gun for code and that's a reveal for [TS]

00:15:12   the third movie like say it's just it's [TS]

00:15:14   terrible when it's it's more of a [TS]

00:15:16   the suspense kind of thing anyway you [TS]

00:15:18   know it's like it's like the third man [TS]

00:15:19   he almost Harry Lime almost never shows [TS]

00:15:22   up in the movie until the very end and [TS]

00:15:24   everybody talks about him and you hear [TS]

00:15:26   about Mandy's menacing as a result is [TS]

00:15:28   the same thing with Jabba if all you [TS]

00:15:30   have for these minions coming after solo [TS]

00:15:32   and then you know then it's like in the [TS]

00:15:35   third movie now we have job you know now [TS]

00:15:38   it's serious [TS]

00:15:39   where is this it's like oh he's he's [TS]

00:15:42   small enough that he can go and visit [TS]

00:15:43   him in the hangar [TS]

00:15:44   he's an ugly sad fucking slut guy I get [TS]

00:15:46   it yeah yeah I've been quiet because I [TS]

00:15:48   completely agree with everything [TS]

00:15:49   everybody said i would just like to just [TS]

00:15:53   gonna pile on and say that this is awful [TS]

00:15:54   but uh as John said they've done this [TS]

00:15:56   twice and it still looks terrible and i [TS]

00:15:59   don't know how many more times they need [TS]

00:16:00   to do it because i'm not even sure they [TS]

00:16:01   could do it well if they gave it another [TS]

00:16:03   shot because it just the movement that [TS]

00:16:06   is required to replace the actor that's [TS]

00:16:09   there is so unjust alike from what you [TS]

00:16:13   see in return of the jedi that ate it [TS]

00:16:16   would never [TS]

00:16:17   conceptually function because you still [TS]

00:16:20   have something that small and moving too [TS]

00:16:21   fast and you still have Harrison Ford [TS]

00:16:24   hopping over the back of it i just don't [TS]

00:16:25   think you're ever gonna get this angel [TS]

00:16:26   to work at all and I so I I don't even [TS]

00:16:30   think it's a thing of being overly [TS]

00:16:31   ambitious with the tools he had i think [TS]

00:16:33   it was it was something where it's just [TS]

00:16:34   like oh yeah these pieces will not fit [TS]

00:16:36   together at all so I should just abandon [TS]

00:16:38   it [TS]

00:16:39   I'm willing to forgive everything that [TS]

00:16:40   scene except Harrison forward being [TS]

00:16:43   clearly just moved up as he goes oh yes [TS]

00:16:46   just translated he levitates the total [TS]

00:16:49   two down.of alright David lure it's your [TS]

00:16:51   turn for a travesty that was a change [TS]

00:16:54   what do you have [TS]

00:16:55   well I'm everything has been on my list [TS]

00:16:57   so far so I'm just crossing off going [TS]

00:16:59   down and and I actually have a few more [TS]

00:17:02   but the the 1i think I'm gonna go with [TS]

00:17:04   because it drove me nuts in the theater [TS]

00:17:06   at the moment watching special editions [TS]

00:17:09   every scene that they can shove things [TS]

00:17:13   in in every section of the frame drove [TS]

00:17:17   me nuts [TS]

00:17:18   you know i mean okay yes yes make Mos [TS]

00:17:20   Eisley bigger yes have all these [TS]

00:17:22   creatures yes add more ships in the [TS]

00:17:24   background two scenes but not so many [TS]

00:17:27   you know and there's so many moving [TS]

00:17:29   hearts that they throw in there that [TS]

00:17:30   it's hard to focus once you have you [TS]

00:17:32   know once you're on the streets of Mos [TS]

00:17:34   Eisley you have all these things walking [TS]

00:17:35   around and walking in front walking [TS]

00:17:37   behind and you know it's like stop it [TS]

00:17:40   I know you can do this but do it better [TS]

00:17:42   You Know have an editor have someone say [TS]

00:17:45   no no not not 30 like five and five [TS]

00:17:48   things five is good maybe the opening [TS]

00:17:51   shot and what most isolated is the best [TS]

00:17:53   example I think of just there's too much [TS]

00:17:55   stuff there [TS]

00:17:56   yeah that was the final thing on my list [TS]

00:17:57   dinosaurs do not make Mos Eisley seem [TS]

00:18:00   you can see ya in a slapstick robots [TS]

00:18:03   it's supposed to be a backwater right [TS]

00:18:05   like it seems always a negative [TS]

00:18:07   it just seems like I don't know if you [TS]

00:18:09   look at the circus is in town [TS]

00:18:11   I don't mind a few more bad guys it's a [TS]

00:18:12   wretched hi it's like he wants to make [TS]

00:18:14   it into two like Casablanca but with you [TS]

00:18:17   know dinosaurs as if they didn't have [TS]

00:18:19   enough background characters to [TS]

00:18:20   merchandise they're like oh great we're [TS]

00:18:21   doing opportunity [TS]

00:18:22   yeah painful these are all great and [TS]

00:18:25   terrible at the same time David Sparkes [TS]

00:18:27   what do you have what so what's a [TS]

00:18:29   special edition change that you do not [TS]

00:18:30   approve of [TS]

00:18:31   well first of all I I second every pic [TS]

00:18:33   so far should think what one that struck [TS]

00:18:37   me like a in the theater just like what [TS]

00:18:41   the heck did they do is the song Jedi [TS]

00:18:44   rocks minus 1 take it was on my list too [TS]

00:18:48   yeah yeah i mean there but the song they [TS]

00:18:52   played in Jabba's palace originally was [TS]

00:18:54   kind of in universe felt like it then [TS]

00:18:58   they put this Jedi rocks thing which [TS]

00:18:59   makes no sense because there's no Jedi [TS]

00:19:01   around at this point how could who's [TS]

00:19:03   left to rock and and then the CGI [TS]

00:19:06   character that they created for it is is [TS]

00:19:09   terrible and the whole thing is just the [TS]

00:19:12   CGI character could be described as a as [TS]

00:19:15   a bad actor you could do it with that [TS]

00:19:17   character that it is just that the guy [TS]

00:19:20   who liked keeps coming up to the camera [TS]

00:19:21   and backing off and the other moment [TS]

00:19:23   we'll see Jackie here is that hole yeah [TS]

00:19:25   it's terrible [TS]

00:19:26   random guy could you take it down from [TS]

00:19:28   like 11 [TS]

00:19:29   really playing this card and it led even [TS]

00:19:32   do a shot where he opens up his mouth [TS]

00:19:35   and you see us alive in the back of his [TS]

00:19:37   foot [TS]

00:19:38   yes they couldn't do like ray-traced [TS]

00:19:41   reflective slice which is this mushy [TS]

00:19:43   almost no glue like metallic thing it's [TS]

00:19:50   it's gross [TS]

00:19:51   uh is it is really disturbing i just [TS]

00:19:53   don't know what a just makes me you're [TS]

00:19:55   suddenly in the Looney Tunes cartoon or [TS]

00:19:57   something else [TS]

00:19:58   Newman and his tonsils like that's not [TS]

00:20:00   that's not a thing we do is start what [TS]

00:20:02   happened here to read we change on a [TS]

00:20:04   frozen and you just can't get the scene [TS]

00:20:06   is that a great scene as as I grew up [TS]

00:20:09   with it but then it like just takes you [TS]

00:20:11   out and it's terrible [TS]

00:20:12   max Reeboks maximo gets like totally [TS]

00:20:15   sideline he would get a couple shots but [TS]

00:20:17   he is everybody's favorite blue alien [TS]

00:20:19   bandleader and he's totally just a [TS]

00:20:21   puppet sorry Bloo adium bandleader [TS]

00:20:23   puppet and he's totally sidelined in the [TS]

00:20:25   in the redo to which is no good so yet [TS]

00:20:28   and even the makeup on the new backup [TS]

00:20:30   singers it doesn't look anything like [TS]

00:20:33   the rest of the film [TS]

00:20:34   well my choice is also a musical [TS]

00:20:37   replacement in Return of the Jedi [TS]

00:20:39   oh cuz you know what I'll i want you but [TS]

00:20:42   the end I want you know at the end I [TS]

00:20:45   don't want orchestral music and shots of [TS]

00:20:47   planets from the prequels as the final [TS]

00:20:49   victory is celebrated in you know I [TS]

00:20:52   don't [TS]

00:20:53   yup knob you know it was a weird choice [TS]

00:20:55   and all that but expect we spent two [TS]

00:20:58   hours with those little teddy bears on [TS]

00:20:59   their little forest moon we're gonna go [TS]

00:21:01   with you dub and into a race d climax of [TS]

00:21:05   this great trilogy and replace it with [TS]

00:21:07   kind of some new music and a lot of [TS]

00:21:10   fireworks because everybody's got [TS]

00:21:11   fireworks ready to go in case of [TS]

00:21:13   anything good happens anywhere and the [TS]

00:21:15   shots of khorasan and all that you know [TS]

00:21:17   what a what a UH a bitter way to end the [TS]

00:21:22   watching the special edition trilogies [TS]

00:21:24   to have the the final capper be this [TS]

00:21:27   kind of generic rewrite and promotion of [TS]

00:21:29   material from the prequel trilogy it [TS]

00:21:32   doesn't make any sense with what we know [TS]

00:21:34   now right like because it's not like [TS]

00:21:35   everybody was just like a the Empire's [TS]

00:21:37   done [TS]

00:21:38   yeah right like that that make that made [TS]

00:21:40   no sense to me at the time because all [TS]

00:21:41   of a sudden you realize like how did the [TS]

00:21:43   news get from like all the way over [TS]

00:21:44   there and then everyone's like oh yeah [TS]

00:21:46   we're free like there's still a ton of [TS]

00:21:47   people left like the Empire still around [TS]

00:21:50   so yeah we always struck me as very like [TS]

00:21:52   a hollow victory thing and so it was [TS]

00:21:54   weird to have it like echoed over all [TS]

00:21:56   these planets [TS]

00:21:56   yeah at and including Coruscant doesn't [TS]

00:21:59   make any sense that wasn't setting and [TS]

00:22:00   committed any of these films are you and [TS]

00:22:02   the ones that i didn't know that I had [TS]

00:22:04   my list that didn't come out by the way [TS]

00:22:06   were r2d2 hiding behind the cgi rocks [TS]

00:22:08   redoubling of Boba Fett's voice with the [TS]

00:22:11   and with the actor who did Jango Fett [TS]

00:22:13   from the original prequels and of course [TS]

00:22:15   the placement of hayden christensen as a [TS]

00:22:17   horse yeah it among the many disastrous [TS]

00:22:20   things that happened at the end of [TS]

00:22:22   Return of the Jedi return of jedi for a [TS]

00:22:25   movie that would seem to not have that [TS]

00:22:26   many changes at first glance and then [TS]

00:22:29   you realize know it i think it fares the [TS]

00:22:31   worst of all of the movies in terms of [TS]

00:22:33   the changes that they made yeah they're [TS]

00:22:35   a lot like they tried the hardest to [TS]

00:22:37   because I feel like maybe they felt like [TS]

00:22:39   that was the one they were most [TS]

00:22:40   dissatisfied with her that George was [TS]

00:22:41   most dissatisfied with and so it felt [TS]

00:22:44   like he charged tried really hard to [TS]

00:22:46   like make it better and it was like you [TS]

00:22:48   overcompensate [TS]

00:22:50   yeah you know that everybody wanted to [TS]

00:22:52   get hired for the prequel so they're [TS]

00:22:54   trying to outdo each other this is right [TS]

00:22:56   yeah we see the SES yes man you could [TS]

00:22:58   possibly be enough about Rick McCallum [TS]

00:23:00   the two things i had that didn't get [TS]

00:23:02   mentioned where the two to David's point [TS]

00:23:04   out the Masai changes the Empire changes [TS]

00:23:06   in Cloud City where they're running [TS]

00:23:08   around the lb suddenly outdoor carrot [TS]

00:23:10   the corridors which is just again [TS]

00:23:11   unnecessary and then there's that weird [TS]

00:23:15   scene that they shove in an empire where [TS]

00:23:16   he says bring my shuttle and I always [TS]

00:23:18   felt like that just it just totally [TS]

00:23:20   ruins the pacing yet I I that was [TS]

00:23:22   someone used footage from Return of the [TS]

00:23:24   Jedi they just like how will we get we [TS]

00:23:26   got an extra shuttle landing let's just [TS]

00:23:28   put it in here because we need to make [TS]

00:23:29   sure the audience knows how he got back [TS]

00:23:30   up to the ship happens like I don't know [TS]

00:23:33   how it's terrible it's such a bad scene [TS]

00:23:36   just because it ruins what again like [TS]

00:23:38   what is probably the best you know and [TS]

00:23:40   most coherent of all three of them light [TS]

00:23:42   is the most it's tightly edited like [TS]

00:23:44   Empire and so it's shoving that in there [TS]

00:23:46   all of a sudden you just get like [TS]

00:23:47   whiplash because you're like wait what I [TS]

00:23:48   was I was engaged in like that what's [TS]

00:23:50   going on down there [TS]

00:23:51   vampire one of the obscure things on my [TS]

00:23:54   list is the change of the line when our [TS]

00:23:56   to get spit out by the closure and sega [TS]

00:23:59   and the original line is dorky comedy [TS]

00:24:03   totally in fitting with that whole [TS]

00:24:04   setting which is you [TS]

00:24:05   you're lucky you don't taste very good [TS]

00:24:06   but just true he probably doesn't taste [TS]

00:24:08   very good and they replace that with you [TS]

00:24:10   were lucky to get out of there it was [TS]

00:24:13   not and is worse doesn't it [TS]

00:24:16   then again that is just totally puddling [TS]

00:24:18   it's like they shouldn't effort on that [TS]

00:24:19   I can't we don't know they didn't David [TS]

00:24:22   they did not like you're really it's not [TS]

00:24:25   on the right it's almost as if that [TS]

00:24:26   they're trying to say like do it [TS]

00:24:28   happening jokes that are corny and and [TS]

00:24:30   don't land we should fix those and they [TS]

00:24:33   misidentified one that is its it lands [TS]

00:24:35   just fine lands as well is every other [TS]

00:24:37   line in dega and I said we need to fix [TS]

00:24:40   that instead of punching it up they [TS]

00:24:41   basically got you know someone to come [TS]

00:24:43   in and punch down the script can you [TS]

00:24:45   punch that down [TS]

00:24:45   sure how about you were lucky to get out [TS]

00:24:47   of there yes that's punchdown good [TS]

00:24:49   replace it [TS]

00:24:50   this episode of the incomparable is [TS]

00:24:52   brought to you by Casper asleep brand [TS]

00:24:55   that created one perfect mattress sold [TS]

00:24:58   directly to consumers like me I sleep on [TS]

00:25:00   one of days [TS]

00:25:01   it eliminates Commission driven and [TS]

00:25:03   inflated prices [TS]

00:25:05   it's an award-winning sleep surface that [TS]

00:25:07   was developed in-house it has a sleek [TS]

00:25:09   design and it's delivered in a small box [TS]

00:25:13   so small that you will say how did they [TS]

00:25:15   do that the answer is vacuum technology [TS]

00:25:18   I think something like that involves [TS]

00:25:20   sucking all the air out and it fits in a [TS]

00:25:22   box and then you open it and wash it [TS]

00:25:25   expands back to its normal size addition [TS]

00:25:28   to that that mattress though that [TS]

00:25:29   Casper's famous for [TS]

00:25:30   they also offer an adaptive pillow which [TS]

00:25:33   I have as well and soft breathable [TS]

00:25:36   sheets I've got those two boy [TS]

00:25:39   yeah all good stuff it really is an [TS]

00:25:41   in-house team of engineers at casper [TS]

00:25:43   spent thousands of hours developing the [TS]

00:25:45   mattress it's got spring latex and [TS]

00:25:47   support of memory foams and creating a [TS]

00:25:49   sleep surface it's got just the right [TS]

00:25:50   sink just the right balance and it's a [TS]

00:25:53   breathable design so it sleep school to [TS]

00:25:55   help you regulate your temperature [TS]

00:25:56   through the night [TS]

00:25:57   mattresses often cost a lot of money [TS]

00:26:00   well over fifteen hundred dollars casper [TS]

00:26:02   mattresses started 504 @ win [TS]

00:26:04   754 full 850 Queen up to 9 50 for a king [TS]

00:26:09   buying a cast for mattress completely [TS]

00:26:11   risk-free if you thought to yourself [TS]

00:26:12   well these casper mattresses sound good [TS]

00:26:14   but you know what I don't want to buy a [TS]

00:26:15   mattress on the internet that would be [TS]

00:26:17   crazy [TS]

00:26:17   don't worry about it Casper has free [TS]

00:26:19   delivery and free returns with a hundred [TS]

00:26:21   knight home trial sleep on for three [TS]

00:26:22   months and if you decide at any point [TS]

00:26:24   you don't like it [TS]

00:26:25   let Casper know they will take it away [TS]

00:26:27   and give you your money back it is that [TS]

00:26:29   simple [TS]

00:26:31   so obsessively Matt engineering mattress [TS]

00:26:33   shockingly fair price a great feel free [TS]

00:26:37   shipping and returns to the US and [TS]

00:26:39   canada try it for a hundred Knights [TS]

00:26:41   risk-free you don't love it they will [TS]

00:26:43   take it away and you have lost nothing [TS]

00:26:45   made in America it is Casper it is a [TS]

00:26:48   great sleep surface try it out now you [TS]

00:26:50   get fifty dollars toward any mattress [TS]

00:26:52   purchase if you go to Casper dot-com / [TS]

00:26:55   smell and use offer code smell [TS]

00:26:58   terms and conditions apply thank you to [TS]

00:27:00   Casper for sponsoring the incomparable [TS]

00:27:02   alright let's move on to round two in [TS]

00:27:04   this round we will be picking the worst [TS]

00:27:06   retcon anything that was stated in film [TS]

00:27:10   and made later that changes our [TS]

00:27:12   understanding of something that came [TS]

00:27:15   before and just kick us off this time [TS]

00:27:17   will be Joe steel [TS]

00:27:19   ok so there are a lot of changes that I [TS]

00:27:23   disagree with and say things that just [TS]

00:27:26   reaching back altered something that I [TS]

00:27:30   really enjoyed one of those things is [TS]

00:27:31   the origin story for c-3po III don't [TS]

00:27:34   know why and you can need to build him i [TS]

00:27:37   don't know why having him in all three [TS]

00:27:40   of the first movies and then wiping his [TS]

00:27:42   mind and then saying he was there the [TS]

00:27:44   whole entire time but not really and [TS]

00:27:45   then having r2d2 along [TS]

00:27:47   I'm not wiping r2d2's mind and so he [TS]

00:27:49   knows all the stuff too and it's just [TS]

00:27:51   like this is a really strange choice IE [TS]

00:27:54   really up really bothered me because I [TS]

00:27:57   actually really like c-3po and I know [TS]

00:27:58   that he's not anyone's favorite [TS]

00:28:00   character except for probably but uh it [TS]

00:28:03   just didn't work and the rod puppet was [TS]

00:28:06   ridiculous and the reasons that he made [TS]

00:28:09   a protocol droid for his enslaved mother [TS]

00:28:11   are not Apple existent you know [TS]

00:28:16   yeah so is always my pic that's why was [TS]

00:28:18   my number one picture I wasn't saying [TS]

00:28:19   someone else added boy those minor [TS]

00:28:22   leagues API was inexplicable origin [TS]

00:28:24   no it's not gonna nobody remembers now [TS]

00:28:27   when you watch the original trilogy any [TS]

00:28:28   type c-3po systems like thank the maker [TS]

00:28:30   as he's sinking into the oil bath you [TS]

00:28:32   have yup yup come on the fader but it [TS]

00:28:35   does give you all these hilarious [TS]

00:28:36   conspiracy theories like there's a scene [TS]

00:28:38   in Empire where uh you know but with [TS]

00:28:40   that goes to shoot chewy when he's [TS]

00:28:42   freaking out in the carbonate chamber [TS]

00:28:44   and Darth Vader like pushes his gun down [TS]

00:28:46   and i had a friend suggested me like no [TS]

00:28:48   it's because he recognized the c-3po he [TS]

00:28:49   doesn't want to shoot c-3po like [TS]

00:28:53   stormtroopers already shy nobody's alive [TS]

00:28:55   at that point it's like it's like that's [TS]

00:28:57   a great conspiracy theory [TS]

00:28:58   alright c-3po I i agree it was on my [TS]

00:29:02   list too [TS]

00:29:03   yea Monty what what's your bad redcon c3 [TS]

00:29:07   feels ok but I like r2d2 you know i like [TS]

00:29:10   about rtd to use this cool robot who [TS]

00:29:12   rolls around everywhere and you can do a [TS]

00:29:14   lot of things [TS]

00:29:15   oh and by the way it turns out he can [TS]

00:29:16   fly he could've been flying this whole [TS]

00:29:21   time I mean that he could have avoided [TS]

00:29:24   that whole problem John was talking [TS]

00:29:25   about with the catcher in the swamp all [TS]

00:29:27   it is it the jags that is that fuel they [TS]

00:29:29   never refilled them [TS]

00:29:30   yeah maybe it was just broken he well [TS]

00:29:32   maybe it was like c-3po we're gonna wipe [TS]

00:29:34   your mind already do [TS]

00:29:36   it's like what's the rocket pack gonna [TS]

00:29:38   be five min and James Bond get oil [TS]

00:29:40   slicks he's got a booster rockets there [TS]

00:29:43   i think he was here all along tax come [TS]

00:29:45   out behind him by the time you get to [TS]

00:29:47   clone wars the cartoon which is still [TS]

00:29:49   cannon he's flying all the time [TS]

00:29:51   consuming just completely ran out of [TS]

00:29:54   rocket fuel [TS]

00:29:55   just before episode 4 which is why he [TS]

00:29:58   couldn't just fly over all those sand [TS]

00:30:00   dunes and avoid all the Jawas i do [TS]

00:30:02   teachers ability to fly affects a lot of [TS]

00:30:04   scenes [TS]

00:30:05   yeah yeah yeah alright John what's a bad [TS]

00:30:08   redcon you're gonna disqualify this is [TS]

00:30:10   not a red card but i think it doesn't [TS]

00:30:12   have a little bit of supporting evidence [TS]

00:30:13   in the much-hated prequels Padme dies [TS]

00:30:19   during childbirth pretty inexplicably of [TS]

00:30:22   a broken heart of sadness losing the [TS]

00:30:24   will to live [TS]

00:30:25   never happens with the robot honest and [TS]

00:30:27   that's a problem because in return of [TS]

00:30:29   the jedi Alaska she remembers her mother [TS]

00:30:30   just a little bit she says she died when [TS]

00:30:33   I was very young [TS]

00:30:34   yeah very young apparently you know what [TS]

00:30:36   do you remember about her she says just [TS]

00:30:38   images really feelings well she could [TS]

00:30:40   have seen pictures of her because she [TS]

00:30:42   was very beautiful kind but sad you you [TS]

00:30:45   never spoke to her you never knew her [TS]

00:30:47   and it's it's weird that if your mother [TS]

00:30:49   died during childbirth that they would [TS]

00:30:51   tell you when you know like it doesn't [TS]

00:30:53   it doesn't make any sense [TS]

00:30:54   so I is considered a retcon and it's a [TS]

00:30:57   dumb retcon because by the time the [TS]

00:30:59   prequels end we don't we don't need we [TS]

00:31:01   don't need to see her die we know that [TS]

00:31:03   she's had these twins and their split up [TS]

00:31:05   and but you know she could die [TS]

00:31:08   there's so many different ways you can [TS]

00:31:09   die and decide you're gonna die you know [TS]

00:31:11   because the plot says you're going to [TS]

00:31:13   for reasons we won't get into with these [TS]

00:31:16   terrible medical drugs that could be [TS]

00:31:17   should be sued for malpractice across [TS]

00:31:18   the galaxy because they're so bad at [TS]

00:31:20   their job [TS]

00:31:21   yeah it's a it's just upsetting you're [TS]

00:31:23   right that is absolutely a retcon [TS]

00:31:25   because I thought about that many times [TS]

00:31:27   and in fact i have a pic later on my [TS]

00:31:29   draft board that is related to this very [TS]

00:31:30   idea so yes yes later remembers her [TS]

00:31:34   mother and you could argue that maybe [TS]

00:31:35   that that's a that's a her adopted [TS]

00:31:38   mother if Jimmy Smits let's say he says [TS]

00:31:42   he looks as your real mom I don't [TS]

00:31:43   remember is already know it's you yeah [TS]

00:31:46   it doesn't mail this ends nailed it [TS]

00:31:48   absolutely agree a hundred plus the [TS]

00:31:50   Padme stuff in episode 3 is terrible on [TS]

00:31:53   so many different levels and and in this [TS]

00:31:55   case totally unnecessary and contradicts [TS]

00:31:58   the cannon what that that was that was [TS]

00:32:01   also on my list are David what's your [TS]

00:32:03   read con there's one big giant bullseye [TS]

00:32:06   that I'm surprised it's still on the [TS]

00:32:07   board but I couldn't leave it on the [TS]

00:32:08   board because the one that drove me [TS]

00:32:10   crazy was a red conning boba fett yes it [TS]

00:32:15   did was was Boba Fett to cool did did we [TS]

00:32:18   have to like give him this huge tragic [TS]

00:32:21   backstory and make him a sad little [TS]

00:32:23   whiny kid upset at the the Jedi for [TS]

00:32:25   decapitating his dad wait a minute why [TS]

00:32:29   he seems a little harsh I'd be sad if [TS]

00:32:30   that happens [TS]

00:32:32   we have true true but but did we need to [TS]

00:32:34   see that isn't it ok free him to just be [TS]

00:32:37   a bounty hunter [TS]

00:32:39   I mean boba fett boba fett barely lived [TS]

00:32:41   up to his hype in the original movies [TS]

00:32:43   because you know he gets he gets the I [TS]

00:32:46   keep it gets knocked into the Sarlacc [TS]

00:32:49   goodness the Sarlacc thank you [TS]

00:32:51   you know how pathetic is that he has [TS]

00:32:54   like one really cool moment in the [TS]

00:32:56   original movies but now you know he's [TS]

00:33:00   just oh yeah let me tell you by the way [TS]

00:33:03   just as an aside since we've been [TS]

00:33:05   talking about red cards and changes of [TS]

00:33:07   all the things they did return of the [TS]

00:33:08   jedi how the hell did they not show a [TS]

00:33:11   shot of Boba Fett cool crawling out of [TS]

00:33:14   the Sarlacc that stage everybody wanted [TS]

00:33:17   to see I don't do that [TS]

00:33:20   boba fett doesn't need a tragic [TS]

00:33:21   backstory can you not just be a bounty [TS]

00:33:23   hunter does he have to have it pass [TS]

00:33:24   intertwined with the rest of everybody [TS]

00:33:26   in the universe whose in this movie [TS]

00:33:29   no no he doesn't David Sparkes what's [TS]

00:33:32   your worst redcon well thanks David I [TS]

00:33:34   think you can help me out by not picking [TS]

00:33:36   the obvious one because when I was nine [TS]

00:33:39   years old when this movie came out i [TS]

00:33:41   believe that i had the force inside of [TS]

00:33:44   me i'm almost certain i moved to spoon [TS]

00:33:47   I certainly tried enough and I always [TS]

00:33:50   felt like it was this mystical thing and [TS]

00:33:53   turns out you just need a blood test and [TS]

00:33:55   if you got these midi-chlorians then you [TS]

00:33:57   have the forest and if not tough luck [TS]

00:33:59   buddy that just crushed me when I saw [TS]

00:34:02   that that that was the point for me in [TS]

00:34:06   episode one where i went from well maybe [TS]

00:34:08   this will get better to know this is [TS]

00:34:10   going to be a terrible experience for me [TS]

00:34:12   and I have never recovered from that why [TS]

00:34:16   on earth did they do that why did they [TS]

00:34:17   have to put a blood test in for the [TS]

00:34:19   force be add a little salt layer of [TS]

00:34:21   science on your totally magic thing [TS]

00:34:24   that's still totally magic but now it [TS]

00:34:27   has some science on top of the magic [TS]

00:34:29   I hate the midi-chlorian so much me that [TS]

00:34:32   in my mind that I just pretend they [TS]

00:34:33   don't exist and i bet you're never going [TS]

00:34:35   to hear the word again and it's in [TS]

00:34:37   movies [TS]

00:34:37   I didn't have that on my list is not i'm [TS]

00:34:39   a big mclaren defender but logically [TS]

00:34:42   speaking it made some sense to me [TS]

00:34:44   in that the force is strong in my family [TS]

00:34:46   is a whole big thing it's inherited [TS]

00:34:49   so if you have that you know it sounds [TS]

00:34:52   like there should be a genetic component [TS]

00:34:53   to it otherwise why would follow family [TS]

00:34:55   lines and it also makes some vague kind [TS]

00:34:57   of sense that in this earlier age when [TS]

00:35:00   they were more Jedi around and it wasn't [TS]

00:35:01   so mysterious that they had a better [TS]

00:35:03   handle on [TS]

00:35:04   hey this force is strong in your family [TS]

00:35:05   and it's an inherited thing that we know [TS]

00:35:06   how that works kind of the ages and that [TS]

00:35:09   much earlier it's only like 18 years [TS]

00:35:10   earlier [TS]

00:35:11   you've got like Harry Potter right we're [TS]

00:35:13   like you have bloodlines that have like [TS]

00:35:14   Wizarding powers and in some ways that's [TS]

00:35:16   done better than its time here because [TS]

00:35:19   here they try to apply something stupid [TS]

00:35:20   yeah i mean like the worst thing about [TS]

00:35:22   it i think is that it's brought into the [TS]

00:35:24   story as a more concrete version of what [TS]

00:35:26   you already knew with that it's in [TS]

00:35:27   hereditary but they never do anything [TS]

00:35:29   with it no it's not as if that is [TS]

00:35:30   pivotal to the rest of the story that is [TS]

00:35:33   this important that in this universe we [TS]

00:35:35   in this phase of history we know exactly [TS]

00:35:37   how this works and sees midi-chlorians [TS]

00:35:38   because that's not that's not part of [TS]

00:35:40   the plot at all it's just like hey we [TS]

00:35:42   can nail this down further and then move [TS]

00:35:44   on with our dumb story i just feel like [TS]

00:35:46   it would've been so much better if it [TS]

00:35:47   didn't exist [TS]

00:35:48   it just doesn't have anything I'd rather [TS]

00:35:50   be so mysteriously it's not measurable [TS]

00:35:52   it's something you you know people that [TS]

00:35:54   can wield the force can feel it and [TS]

00:35:56   other people but you can't take a blood [TS]

00:35:58   test I don't know just a qualifying just [TS]

00:36:01   defends me at so many levels [TS]

00:36:02   I'm surprised they didn't show that [TS]

00:36:04   scene in the force awakens where when [TS]

00:36:06   Ray arrives at the rebel base she's [TS]

00:36:08   immediately given a blood test for [TS]

00:36:09   midi-chlorians strangely that didn't [TS]

00:36:12   seem to happen [TS]

00:36:13   dan what's your choice for worst redcon [TS]

00:36:15   a lot of good the ones that are on my [TS]

00:36:18   list of been taken off the table but i'm [TS]

00:36:19   going to pick one that's a little weird [TS]

00:36:20   but it bothered me a little bit and that [TS]

00:36:24   is the stottah Lynn consistency and lack [TS]

00:36:27   of understanding about force ghosts [TS]

00:36:29   which is this thing right in the in the [TS]

00:36:32   original trilogy you know we want dies [TS]

00:36:34   his body disappears he shows up later as [TS]

00:36:35   a ghost Yoda dies body disappear shows [TS]

00:36:37   up later as ghosts or theater dies [TS]

00:36:40   alright well we don't really know what [TS]

00:36:41   happened there it's kind of weird be [TS]

00:36:42   still shows up later as it goes like you [TS]

00:36:44   about the body's gone only the suit is [TS]

00:36:46   being cooked at that point again [TS]

00:36:48   yeah I guess it's just a you wanna you [TS]

00:36:50   wanna you wanna BBQ your suit is quite [TS]

00:36:53   gone dies in episode 1 and not so much [TS]

00:36:58   anything happens with that and as I [TS]

00:37:00   recall is the time there was this whole [TS]

00:37:01   question about it and they're like oh my [TS]

00:37:04   god actually the one who figures out [TS]

00:37:06   like he can become a force ghost and [TS]

00:37:08   you'll see that later [TS]

00:37:09   it never gets gone back into EndNote in [TS]

00:37:11   the prequels it gets alluded to in clone [TS]

00:37:14   wars i believe a and even then and [TS]

00:37:18   rebels i think a little bit too maybe [TS]

00:37:20   and even then it doesn't entirely make [TS]

00:37:22   sense and so it's kind of weird because [TS]

00:37:25   you have this whole idea and I guess [TS]

00:37:27   they decided well why aren't there are a [TS]

00:37:29   million Jedi ghost running around all [TS]

00:37:30   the time which does seem to present its [TS]

00:37:33   own problems but I always felt like it [TS]

00:37:36   just bothered me that they're like me [TS]

00:37:38   all the Jedi in the original trilogy [TS]

00:37:40   seem to be able to do this and none of [TS]

00:37:42   the Jedi in you in the prequel seem to [TS]

00:37:44   be able to do this and what what why [TS]

00:37:46   like you know again I don't want stuff [TS]

00:37:49   over explain like oh they had a really [TS]

00:37:50   high midi-chlorian count i guess they [TS]

00:37:52   could do this but you know the idea even [TS]

00:37:54   that there was some sort of discipline [TS]

00:37:55   or whatever that they learned that allow [TS]

00:37:57   them to do this it just it's weird it's [TS]

00:37:59   weird inconsistent and I felt like they [TS]

00:38:01   tried to say oh no we totally know why [TS]

00:38:03   that is and then like never actually [TS]

00:38:04   explain why it was so well I realize [TS]

00:38:07   that's a little nitpicky but it was [TS]

00:38:08   either that or their pronunciation of [TS]

00:38:10   course aunt which I hate it when and [TS]

00:38:14   kind of related redcon for me with the [TS]

00:38:16   force ghost is you know why is it in the [TS]

00:38:19   new return of the jedi that you know why [TS]

00:38:22   is it Alec Guinness and old Yoda and [TS]

00:38:25   hayden christensen yeah doesn't make any [TS]

00:38:27   sense why is before this gray truck did [TS]

00:38:29   David obviously there's a lot of [TS]

00:38:32   questions about like if you lose your [TS]

00:38:34   arm in real life and then you become a [TS]

00:38:35   force ghost do you get your arm back [TS]

00:38:37   that I think are left are left [TS]

00:38:39   unanswered but the having a you die in [TS]

00:38:41   the game dude I don't realize it [TS]

00:38:44   guys this is all covered in that [TS]

00:38:46   youngling Jedi class [TS]

00:38:47   okay good uh I i think the reality is [TS]

00:38:50   that Lucas didn't really know what to do [TS]

00:38:52   with the if you strike me down I shall [TS]

00:38:53   become more powerful than you probably [TS]

00:38:55   could possibly imagine and was like yeah [TS]

00:38:57   we'll just [TS]

00:38:58   finesse that not talking about hatch he [TS]

00:39:01   doesn't see that powerful voice overs [TS]

00:39:03   and he whispers at people that's his [TS]

00:39:05   best for very inspirational do you feel [TS]

00:39:07   like he's dissing Anakin's imagination [TS]

00:39:09   there's like yeah you suck it Matt [TS]

00:39:10   yonder you're gonna be ghosts whispering [TS]

00:39:13   and Luke's here [TS]

00:39:14   yeah okay you got me that he was pivotal [TS]

00:39:16   to the for the trench shoring up his [TS]

00:39:18   look in theory would have missed if you [TS]

00:39:20   just tried to use the computer so Ben's [TS]

00:39:22   like some the district and I really good [TS]

00:39:24   time if you strike me down I will become [TS]

00:39:26   more pivotal than you can possibly that [TS]

00:39:28   it was it was just a mistranslation [TS]

00:39:30   there was no way he was gonna fit in the [TS]

00:39:33   x-wing behind Luke whispering to him [TS]

00:39:35   like so he had to be a ghost in order [TS]

00:39:36   for that to work but his force ghost [TS]

00:39:39   helped it go into the right spot to [TS]

00:39:41   that's house although that was all Luke [TS]

00:39:43   Luke you know you gotta slow the film [TS]

00:39:45   down you can see ghostly Alec Guinness [TS]

00:39:47   out there pushing the torpedo sideways [TS]

00:39:49   yeah that's right yeah and I'd also [TS]

00:39:52   argue that you him getting them to yoga [TS]

00:39:53   was super important to her but oh yeah [TS]

00:39:56   either but your phone kind of phone that [TS]

00:39:58   one is like going to do system.out [TS]

00:40:00   vastly that fast power more than you can [TS]

00:40:02   imagine but not really anyway I here's [TS]

00:40:05   mine a lot of good choices here I think [TS]

00:40:08   the one that I'm gonna go with that's [TS]

00:40:10   left on the board is in the original [TS]

00:40:13   trilogy obi-wan tells Luke your father [TS]

00:40:18   was a great pilot when I met him there [TS]

00:40:20   is a serious implication that obi-wan [TS]

00:40:24   meets Anakin Skywalker when they are [TS]

00:40:27   young men and then episode one comes and [TS]

00:40:31   not only do they meet when he's just a [TS]

00:40:34   little kid but that little kid now [TS]

00:40:36   because of that dialogue has to already [TS]

00:40:38   be a great pilot from which we get [TS]

00:40:41   podracing and the accident launch of the [TS]

00:40:43   spaceship that he flies around and all [TS]

00:40:45   these other completely ridiculous things [TS]

00:40:47   that happen completely ruining the idea [TS]

00:40:49   that they met as young men and he was [TS]

00:40:52   already an established pilot at that [TS]

00:40:54   point and instead now he's a child [TS]

00:40:56   prodigy slave kid from a desert planet [TS]

00:40:58   who somehow has become a great pilot [TS]

00:41:01   because mid maybe midi-chlorians I don't [TS]

00:41:03   know maybe they work that way on his day [TS]

00:41:06   off from being a slave he takes flying [TS]

00:41:07   lessons clearly plus it totally screwed [TS]

00:41:10   the you and mcgregor kind [TS]

00:41:12   screen with a little bit because he's [TS]

00:41:13   clearly supposed to be much younger in [TS]

00:41:15   episode 1 than he actually is right like [TS]

00:41:17   I think he's supposed to be like a [TS]

00:41:18   teenager essentially yeah because their [TS]

00:41:20   day when he gets older they see and and [TS]

00:41:22   Anakin end up being more like peers [TS]

00:41:25   right and yet if if you you and McGregor [TS]

00:41:27   is his actual age there which is [TS]

00:41:29   probably like 30 probably like it [TS]

00:41:30   doesn't really make any sense anymore [TS]

00:41:32   yeah well it's like I'm $1 age it goes [TS]

00:41:34   back to live Lucas's misguided concept [TS]

00:41:37   for episode 1 which was Colette show [TS]

00:41:40   Anakin when he's like a eight-year-old [TS]

00:41:42   kid and it's just a huge it's a huge [TS]

00:41:45   mistake and everything else comes out of [TS]

00:41:47   that decision but this is an example [TS]

00:41:49   where like it's very clear and dialogue [TS]

00:41:51   you can you can fake it and so they did [TS]

00:41:53   fake it but there's no way that this is [TS]

00:41:55   what was intended and what was supposed [TS]

00:41:57   to be in people's minds when when that [TS]

00:42:00   dialogue is in the first movie hate it [TS]

00:42:02   hate it [TS]

00:42:04   yeah let's move on to round 3 in this [TS]

00:42:07   round I'm going to ask you to pick [TS]

00:42:08   something that's dumb [TS]

00:42:10   in the original trilogy and and I i'm [TS]

00:42:14   going to specify before it was meddled [TS]

00:42:16   with something that's original to the [TS]

00:42:18   original trilogy that you think maybe [TS]

00:42:20   it's not so good [TS]

00:42:21   Monty now people have internalised [TS]

00:42:24   justifications for this but they are [TS]

00:42:27   wrong [TS]

00:42:27   ok wen Han Solo says the Millennium [TS]

00:42:30   Falcon made the Kessel run on left and [TS]

00:42:32   follow our sex that is not because he [TS]

00:42:35   was good at navigating near black holes [TS]

00:42:37   that wasn't because he was delivering to [TS]

00:42:39   moving ships it's because George Lucas [TS]

00:42:41   doesn't know what a parsec is I'm sure [TS]

00:42:44   he does now and I don't receive any way [TS]

00:42:47   they put they put the Kessel run in 12 [TS]

00:42:49   parsecs line into the force awakens just [TS]

00:42:52   to Jabba people like me but it's just a [TS]

00:42:56   fundamental mistake and for all the [TS]

00:42:58   times they've messed with the dialogue [TS]

00:43:00   to fix things they could have fixed this [TS]

00:43:02   it's just dumb are 64 distance not time [TS]

00:43:05   you know if they fix that I would have [TS]

00:43:07   been one of the things I complain about [TS]

00:43:08   them [TS]

00:43:09   no there's no pleasing everybody agree [TS]

00:43:12   especially me [TS]

00:43:13   it's just sort of two too late to fix it [TS]

00:43:16   it's become kind of iconic which is why [TS]

00:43:17   it's great that they do that reference [TS]

00:43:19   in the force awakens but yeah [TS]

00:43:22   anybody who knows anything about like [TS]

00:43:23   astronomy knows [TS]

00:43:25   parsecs is distance it's a but the [TS]

00:43:28   retcon like the right kind of the [TS]

00:43:29   nerdiest of all red cons because it can [TS]

00:43:32   be read con because you can say well you [TS]

00:43:34   just assume that the run that what you [TS]

00:43:36   want to do on a run is doing the least [TS]

00:43:39   amount of time but that's that's you [TS]

00:43:40   know that's just your assumption in fact [TS]

00:43:42   and then they you know yeah it and [TS]

00:43:44   explain away right with Lucan all the [TS]

00:43:46   details of that clearly Harrison Ford [TS]

00:43:48   learn this line phonetically and [TS]

00:43:50   assuming that it made sense my own head [TS]

00:43:54   Canon is that he says it and obi-wan [TS]

00:43:55   gives them this look like yeah pull the [TS]

00:43:58   other one like he's testing them to see [TS]

00:43:59   how much they actually know about flying [TS]

00:44:01   at the speakership when I realized that [TS]

00:44:03   is totally headcanon yeah i'll be want [TS]

00:44:06   to chew our old pals so they don't even [TS]

00:44:08   need that yeah that's not my god why [TS]

00:44:11   pick that well ok John something that's [TS]

00:44:15   done in the original trilogy actually [TS]

00:44:16   had trouble trying to think of this [TS]

00:44:18   because I have something that feels [TS]

00:44:19   about Derek original trilogy that like I [TS]

00:44:22   mean because it's phrased as dumb right [TS]

00:44:25   yeah and so there's not much the dome [TS]

00:44:27   where technology except interpreted as [TS]

00:44:30   you want [TS]

00:44:30   I handful of things but everything is [TS]

00:44:32   the robot could be a robot you never [TS]

00:44:34   know to just take a shot my number one [TS]

00:44:37   is no metal for Chuy yep I why is that [TS]

00:44:40   dumb [TS]

00:44:41   um so there's is the obvious things like [TS]

00:44:44   looking there's a certain number of [TS]

00:44:45   people who are up there on the stage who [TS]

00:44:47   were pivotal in the victory here and [TS]

00:44:49   they're getting medals and she is there [TS]

00:44:51   and he is important is the copilot [TS]

00:44:54   Millennium Falcon I was pivotal to the [TS]

00:44:56   victory right to let Luke take the shot [TS]

00:44:58   but no metal for him and it just kind of [TS]

00:45:00   feels kind of a not racist butts pcs [TS]

00:45:03   whatever the word is 44 [TS]

00:45:05   it's racist no spaces yeah space races [TS]

00:45:08   know right but more broadly like no [TS]

00:45:12   metal for Chuy's is the the capsule [TS]

00:45:14   summary this but more broadly in the end [TS]

00:45:16   of a new hope it's a celebratory endings [TS]

00:45:18   you're supposed to feel happy that they [TS]

00:45:20   blew up the Death Star but two ended in [TS]

00:45:22   a medal ceremony is a little on the nose [TS]

00:45:26   like a lot of people died during the [TS]

00:45:29   assault on the Death Star and the rebels [TS]

00:45:31   are victorious but it is is the right [TS]

00:45:34   note to be like forget all those people [TS]

00:45:36   had died reward the [TS]

00:45:38   two heroes of the movie with like with [TS]

00:45:40   metals like and they're so happy to get [TS]

00:45:41   the metals and they're just smiling and [TS]

00:45:43   I mean it should be a little bit more [TS]

00:45:44   someone saying they should have like a [TS]

00:45:45   down or anything like oh all the rebels [TS]

00:45:47   have died because we have a vampire for [TS]

00:45:49   that but just just thinking about the [TS]

00:45:51   medal ceremony in general made me think [TS]

00:45:53   that but if you're gonna have a medal [TS]

00:45:54   ceremony two against one [TS]

00:45:55   he's standing right there put around his [TS]

00:45:57   neck so it's not like they have even won [TS]

00:45:58   the whole war right like that's kinda [TS]

00:46:01   kind of celebrating before before they [TS]

00:46:03   really put the cap on it [TS]

00:46:04   there are Millennials they need to get [TS]

00:46:05   rewarded after everything jury yeah you [TS]

00:46:07   did such a good job long up at that star [TS]

00:46:10   but the tester could kill a planet i [TS]

00:46:11   think they are entitled to a little [TS]

00:46:13   ceremony little ceremony I just feel [TS]

00:46:15   like it's at odds with him being like a [TS]

00:46:17   scrappy little rebellion they've got [TS]

00:46:18   like everybody lined up they've got this [TS]

00:46:20   very like procedure this protocol [TS]

00:46:22   they've taken the time to make metals [TS]

00:46:24   can't they melt that down and use it for [TS]

00:46:25   war material and some sort on it was [TS]

00:46:28   like going to go into like the school [TS]

00:46:30   play but your kids not in it you just [TS]

00:46:31   gotta stand there at attention with all [TS]

00:46:33   time that went slowly because the metals [TS]

00:46:35   around these two people's necks and they [TS]

00:46:37   just don't get the truth is everyone [TS]

00:46:38   just wants to leave she should at least [TS]

00:46:39   get a participation trophy the solemn [TS]

00:46:42   memory of like memorial for those who [TS]

00:46:44   died in the mission that happened before [TS]

00:46:46   we we cut to that in the slideshow [TS]

00:46:48   showing Porkins yeah it's alright hold [TS]

00:46:52   your applause till the end didn't chewy [TS]

00:46:54   probably fire the laser shot that sent [TS]

00:46:57   Darth Vader spinning away from the Death [TS]

00:47:00   Star [TS]

00:47:01   I think that's what's under spinning [TS]

00:47:02   away was the other type of them into the [TS]

00:47:05   laser shot the ways it's right there was [TS]

00:47:07   a bank shot is a bit of a bank shut the [TS]

00:47:08   laser had one tie fighter than you know [TS]

00:47:10   typewriter saw that his friend had [TS]

00:47:12   swerved off course and he freaked out [TS]

00:47:13   and bumped into her later yep [TS]

00:47:15   really boy that's major was a much [TS]

00:47:17   better pilot when he was a young kid [TS]

00:47:19   yeah turns out alright David something [TS]

00:47:22   that's done in the original trilogy [TS]

00:47:24   well my my wife went because I i sent [TS]

00:47:26   all these to my wife because she was [TS]

00:47:28   always the bigger star wars fan in the [TS]

00:47:30   house and of course the prequels killed [TS]

00:47:33   that she's totally done now and but I [TS]

00:47:36   said you know here's some things and her [TS]

00:47:38   her first reaction was he walks and i [TS]

00:47:40   said no i'm not saying he walks know [TS]

00:47:43   my-my one dumb thing is [TS]

00:47:46   is again boba fett slamed us i mean even [TS]

00:47:49   in the original trilogy you know all the [TS]

00:47:51   hype we had for him and and all of all [TS]

00:47:54   when he really acts cool when he's [TS]

00:47:56   really effective is in the holiday [TS]

00:47:59   special in the cartoon and in the movies [TS]

00:48:01   he's pretty much he's standing around he [TS]

00:48:04   gets his orders he standing around again [TS]

00:48:06   he doesn't exactly capture anybody and [TS]

00:48:08   then he gets knocked into the Sarlacc [TS]

00:48:10   pit you're selling short he an empire he [TS]

00:48:12   has this time the sunday he they have a [TS]

00:48:14   group of bounty hunters who are tasked [TS]

00:48:16   with this and the group bounty hunters [TS]

00:48:18   presumably goes out to try to do what [TS]

00:48:19   they're all tasked with doing but he's [TS]

00:48:20   the only one who knows [TS]

00:48:22   did see that the console is going to [TS]

00:48:24   flow with the garbage he is clever and [TS]

00:48:26   he is a worthy adversary for harm but [TS]

00:48:29   the only thing he did was hide in the [TS]

00:48:30   garbage and everything yeah yeah he [TS]

00:48:32   didn't he didn't actually capture [TS]

00:48:33   anybody when they get to cloud city [TS]

00:48:36   there's Vader you know I mean there's no [TS]

00:48:38   no well you know what he did his job was [TS]

00:48:40   no one else could find him and he was [TS]

00:48:42   smart it shows him being that the [TS]

00:48:44   smartest and most capable of the bounty [TS]

00:48:45   hunters and a Jedi a totally undercuts [TS]

00:48:48   that but and then he gets knocked into a [TS]

00:48:49   monster by a blind guy he actually is [TS]

00:48:51   accidentally partnership in the garbage [TS]

00:48:53   chute it was definitely all right [TS]

00:48:57   Boba Fett is a yeah you know return to [TS]

00:49:00   China he's not so great he is he's good [TS]

00:49:02   at Empire Sparky what is your pick [TS]

00:49:04   um like John i love these movies so much [TS]

00:49:07   the original moves this was a hard one [TS]

00:49:09   for me to but because i watch them off [TS]

00:49:11   and there's one logic problem i have [TS]

00:49:13   every time i watch the movie they leave [TS]

00:49:15   the Death Star and Leia says they're [TS]

00:49:19   tracking us that was too easy so then [TS]

00:49:21   let's go straight to the rebel hideout [TS]

00:49:23   if I think what why did they do that [TS]

00:49:26   why didn't they go get a different ship [TS]

00:49:28   or you know I don't understand why if he [TS]

00:49:31   knew they were tracking us straight to [TS]

00:49:32   the plate the last place in the universe [TS]

00:49:34   you want them to find no one listens the [TS]

00:49:36   women that's why they're tracking us [TS]

00:49:38   yeah okay alright I think about that [TS]

00:49:40   every time because the whole reason the [TS]

00:49:42   Death Star is about to blow up their [TS]

00:49:43   their moon is because they went back [TS]

00:49:45   there they let them and they know it and [TS]

00:49:47   they know it and they still go back [TS]

00:49:49   there but the only one who knows those [TS]

00:49:51   land she is not able to convince the [TS]

00:49:53   others he says you call that easy [TS]

00:49:54   it's gonna don't forget it i think [TS]

00:49:56   that's it's the third act they should [TS]

00:49:58   have just gone somewhere in like retire [TS]

00:50:00   heard settle down in Iceland moon well [TS]

00:50:02   they could they could like a ditch the [TS]

00:50:04   rebellion you do it staged the falken [TS]

00:50:05   briefly and I searched it or deactivate [TS]

00:50:08   which the falken what you just said mind [TS]

00:50:13   the park it somewhere in a junkyard and [TS]

00:50:15   then get back later I don't know I'm [TS]

00:50:17   sorry ginger said that was too easy but [TS]

00:50:19   didn't go the extra step of saying [TS]

00:50:20   they're tracking us so you know they [TS]

00:50:22   didn't believe her once they arrived at [TS]

00:50:23   the rebel base and layers if not in [TS]

00:50:26   charge at least one of the bigwigs in [TS]

00:50:28   command she could have said now that [TS]

00:50:29   we've landed please have your tech crews [TS]

00:50:31   come on board and search for tracking [TS]

00:50:33   devices name is probably that too late [TS]

00:50:35   it's not too late because apparently the [TS]

00:50:38   death star can go from system to system [TS]

00:50:40   but once against the system it takes at [TS]

00:50:42   least what 10-15 minutes at getting [TS]

00:50:43   inside of the road hyperspace is not [TS]

00:50:45   precise like that [TS]

00:50:46   well there's an intern who jumped them [TS]

00:50:48   into the wrong side of the system that's [TS]

00:50:49   right that's like asking to take us like [TS]

00:50:51   what at least 25 minutes that the inside [TS]

00:50:54   of the rebel base just enough time for a [TS]

00:50:56   trench run again ah damn what's a dumb [TS]

00:50:59   thing from the original trilogy alright [TS]

00:51:01   okay i had a lot of trouble with this 12 [TS]

00:51:02   we're making it hard Monty suggested [TS]

00:51:04   this because he's a monster and I think [TS]

00:51:06   that exercise for everyone [TS]

00:51:08   he's on monkeys on my monster list now [TS]

00:51:09   it's because i feel bad for the special [TS]

00:51:11   editions and the prequels which had many [TS]

00:51:13   people working on them and all they get [TS]

00:51:14   is dumped on I want the old movies [TS]

00:51:16   dumped on cap [TS]

00:51:17   ok so here's what i came up with it's [TS]

00:51:19   actually fairly big one but i think it [TS]

00:51:22   and maybe people will be able divided on [TS]

00:51:23   this but i think the the thing that [TS]

00:51:25   bothers me one of the most about the [TS]

00:51:26   original trilogy is the Lucani a love [TS]

00:51:29   triangle [TS]

00:51:30   yeah that's on my list for exactly the [TS]

00:51:32   reasons I think we all like realize [TS]

00:51:34   which is that George Lucas once again [TS]

00:51:36   did not know what he was setting out to [TS]

00:51:37   do when he started this off and so yeah [TS]

00:51:42   it makes a certain amount of sense to [TS]

00:51:44   have Luke you know catapult across the [TS]

00:51:46   galaxy by this you know beautiful young [TS]

00:51:47   woman etc but like the whole especially [TS]

00:51:50   when that it goes up a notch in empire [TS]

00:51:53   with the kiss like it for everybody who [TS]

00:51:57   seemed like the first time I guess your [TS]

00:51:59   watch that you'll be like oh that's fine [TS]

00:52:01   like not knowing what's coming next but [TS]

00:52:03   the million times that you really watch [TS]

00:52:05   it after that it's just awkward [TS]

00:52:07   every single time and it's not even that [TS]

00:52:10   convincing of a love triangle because [TS]

00:52:11   like honestly once that part passes [TS]

00:52:13   is like II nobody's really under any [TS]

00:52:15   illusions that lady is gonna end up with [TS]

00:52:17   anybody other than Han Solo I feel like [TS]

00:52:18   and you know it provides some tension [TS]

00:52:22   towards the end but like you know that [TS]

00:52:24   even that last scene where the way [TS]

00:52:26   explain sohan that Lucas his brother [TS]

00:52:29   like he's are like starts smiling but at [TS]

00:52:32   the same time you feel like you maybe [TS]

00:52:33   should be a little bit more disturbed [TS]

00:52:34   about it so I don't know it struck me as [TS]

00:52:38   a no and I understand you know this is a [TS]

00:52:40   saga there's the romance and epic and [TS]

00:52:42   you know I think it's unnecessary [TS]

00:52:45   I think they could have been executed in [TS]

00:52:47   a way that did not necessarily leave you [TS]

00:52:50   with that awkward taste in your mouth at [TS]

00:52:51   the end of the of the trilogy and so I [TS]

00:52:55   also don't think it provides anything [TS]

00:52:57   super interesting in terms of luke and [TS]

00:53:00   Hans characters when it comes to that [TS]

00:53:02   like I don't think you know it provides [TS]

00:53:04   enough tension that it feels like it [TS]

00:53:07   provides interesting drama [TS]

00:53:09   it just sort of provides a weird [TS]

00:53:11   obstacle that seems very artificial and [TS]

00:53:14   you know most of all as i said like [TS]

00:53:16   George Lucas they clearly didn't plan [TS]

00:53:17   this one up front it feels like and so [TS]

00:53:19   it makes for some very awkward awkward [TS]

00:53:22   scenes and I can never stop imagining [TS]

00:53:25   this like just thinking about the [TS]

00:53:27   sponsor of the mind's eye book and well [TS]

00:53:29   yeah Luke is like daydreaming about haha [TS]

00:53:31   so it makes it so awkward so very [TS]

00:53:34   awkward so I feel like you there's a [TS]

00:53:36   better way to execute on some of the [TS]

00:53:38   ideas that need to happen from this [TS]

00:53:40   without having to get as involved in [TS]

00:53:41   this really really awkward love triangle [TS]

00:53:43   but it's like it I can give it a pass in [TS]

00:53:45   episode 4 episode 5 they should have had [TS]

00:53:47   it all figured out and they should have [TS]

00:53:49   known that doesn't make sense it is on a [TS]

00:53:50   blood test guys haha you have a lot of [TS]

00:53:53   midi-chlorians and you're related and [TS]

00:53:55   it's only briefly it's only kind of [TS]

00:53:57   alluded to an empire right because it's [TS]

00:53:58   just the Yoda there is another line he [TS]

00:54:00   doesn't find out she's actually a sister [TS]

00:54:01   until yeah but don't you think that [TS]

00:54:03   helps a lot like this that I think that [TS]

00:54:04   helps me a lot of it like that the the [TS]

00:54:07   revelation that the kissing and the [TS]

00:54:09   revelation don't happen in the same [TS]

00:54:11   movie that they they have the first [TS]

00:54:12   movie we got nothing [TS]

00:54:13   they got the second movie where you got [TS]

00:54:15   kissing and a reference but still still [TS]

00:54:17   nothing and then they wait to the whole [TS]

00:54:18   third movie which yes does ripple [TS]

00:54:20   backward in time make you think the case [TS]

00:54:21   is creepy but its way [TS]

00:54:22   better dribble back in time for 93 1982 [TS]

00:54:25   rebel back from you know two hours into [TS]

00:54:28   the movie 2 30 minutes the problem is [TS]

00:54:30   obi-wan is there the whole time and [TS]

00:54:32   knows all of us doesn't tell me ya guys [TS]

00:54:36   come on [TS]

00:54:37   agreed and well you know he's a force [TS]

00:54:39   ghost but he's got places to go to I [TS]

00:54:41   mean he's not there or you wouldn't like [TS]

00:54:43   us don't have time for that extra sense [TS]

00:54:44   go to take a bar by the way later Susan [TS]

00:54:47   was just waving supermarkets like oh and [TS]

00:54:49   i gotta stop off here you know you must [TS]

00:54:50   go today was an ok I'm but this market [TS]

00:54:53   are two could have told them once he [TS]

00:54:54   knows once Luke knows he sits on that [TS]

00:54:57   information while they go off on [TS]

00:54:59   definition it's just like okay yeah just [TS]

00:55:02   ask me about it again sometime [TS]

00:55:03   oh yeah that's that's why hon finds out [TS]

00:55:06   you know he's my brother his first [TS]

00:55:07   question should have been ok how long [TS]

00:55:09   have you had this information is known [TS]

00:55:12   as the entire time I've known you or did [TS]

00:55:13   you find out like three seasons ago [TS]

00:55:14   because that's important as for everyone [TS]

00:55:17   maybe he had a really attractive sister [TS]

00:55:19   too [TS]

00:55:20   we don't know boy uh hey Joe [TS]

00:55:23   tell me something that's dumb in the [TS]

00:55:25   original trilogy ok well i am just go [TS]

00:55:29   with something probably doesn't bother a [TS]

00:55:31   lot of people but at Luke's Luke's [TS]

00:55:33   planned to rescue hahn at the beginning [TS]

00:55:36   of Return of the Jedi doesn't make a [TS]

00:55:38   tremendous amount of sense to me when I [TS]

00:55:39   tried a diagram out the order of how [TS]

00:55:42   these things were supposed to go [TS]

00:55:43   including the part where Lando and [TS]

00:55:46   Chewbacca went to Jabba's palace and [TS]

00:55:51   c3po even has a line at the beginning [TS]

00:55:52   like though they never returned from [TS]

00:55:54   this awful place only Chewbacca is not [TS]

00:55:55   there and he seemingly never was but [TS]

00:55:58   Lando infiltrated it and then she [TS]

00:56:00   becomes later and so now Luke is risking [TS]

00:56:03   four of his friends and then lay also [TS]

00:56:07   comes in and then Luke finally also [TS]

00:56:09   comes in it's just like this seems [TS]

00:56:11   really dangerous for a lot of reasons [TS]

00:56:13   because they're there's all kinds of [TS]

00:56:15   things that could have happened [TS]

00:56:16   something tripped and fell and died [TS]

00:56:18   you don't you know if they was it is [TS]

00:56:20   really precarious formal logic [TS]

00:56:21   perspective java could have just had [TS]

00:56:25   enough of c-3po and and killed him like [TS]

00:56:28   pretty abruptly to hit him a couple [TS]

00:56:29   times but it it doesn't seem like this [TS]

00:56:33   was well thought out at all it just [TS]

00:56:34   seems like the kind of thing [TS]

00:56:35   you would construct if you just wanted [TS]

00:56:37   to like keep bumping up the detention [TS]

00:56:41   for how dire the Straits were getting [TS]

00:56:44   for them and guess what I do [TS]

00:56:46   yeah just why there aren't very many of [TS]

00:56:48   them left [TS]

00:56:49   that's a really bad plan a part of the [TS]

00:56:52   plot point is that Luke is overconfident [TS]

00:56:54   to this point he is he is cocky as [TS]

00:56:57   compared to him and his low point in [TS]

00:56:58   Empire when he comes in the jedis like [TS]

00:57:00   he is totally he's talking about [TS]

00:57:02   everybody there that you don't know what [TS]

00:57:04   I could do it you know he finds out [TS]

00:57:06   pretty quickly it is in over his head he [TS]

00:57:08   goes into the rancor pit and everything [TS]

00:57:09   like that but I feel like that's part of [TS]

00:57:11   the things that he's got this big [TS]

00:57:13   elaborate plan kind of us gets rewarded [TS]

00:57:14   for his bad behavior though because [TS]

00:57:16   everything kind of works out yet he is a [TS]

00:57:19   pretty powerful Jedi need that had [TS]

00:57:20   didn't have a reasonably good planning [TS]

00:57:22   and backup plans right he's got a lot of [TS]

00:57:23   people a lot of skill people in motion [TS]

00:57:25   here he's got his lightsaber hidden in [TS]

00:57:26   r2 and he's got backup plans that you [TS]

00:57:29   don't we [TS]

00:57:29   he doesn't his number one plan of [TS]

00:57:31   negotiating doesn't work his number to [TS]

00:57:32   plan of just killing job that doesn't [TS]

00:57:34   work but he's got many backups I don't [TS]

00:57:36   think it was that poorly executed but i [TS]

00:57:38   think it goes badly as part of the idea [TS]

00:57:40   that Luke it may be as little [TS]

00:57:42   overconfident now our to eventually I'm [TS]

00:57:45   going to be on a diving board here's [TS]

00:57:46   what I want you to do exactly just flown [TS]

00:57:50   the lightsaber over to him in any point [TS]

00:57:51   well yeah it's just that part strains [TS]

00:57:54   credulity because it's just like was so [TS]

00:57:56   he knew that he would need to go up to [TS]

00:57:58   the top of the sailing barge right then [TS]

00:58:00   and fire the ladies watches paying [TS]

00:58:03   attention to what's got you don't do [TS]

00:58:05   anything to take away from our to [TS]

00:58:07   shooting lightsaber from there and him [TS]

00:58:08   catching off the diving board because [TS]

00:58:09   that is a pivotal moment in my childhood [TS]

00:58:11   you can take that away a might tell me [TS]

00:58:13   that's not cool it's cool it's cool all [TS]

00:58:16   images terrible plan I hey I just you [TS]

00:58:18   know when you think about it i just [TS]

00:58:19   wonder who built the astromech droid [TS]

00:58:21   with a lightsaber ejector attachment is [TS]

00:58:23   all you can actually plan to be a job a [TS]

00:58:25   swimming pool and like that was with the [TS]

00:58:27   whole originally the other part you can [TS]

00:58:29   also serve drinks so here's a lot of [TS]

00:58:31   attachments [TS]

00:58:31   all right i'll let me give you mine and [TS]

00:58:33   then we'll and then we'll move on to the [TS]

00:58:35   next category of mine maybe slightly [TS]

00:58:38   controversial but here it is so Yoda you [TS]

00:58:40   know in in Empire Strikes Back everybody [TS]

00:58:42   loves Yoda day and they made a puppet [TS]

00:58:44   and everybody likes Yoda it's a puppet [TS]

00:58:46   character but it's pretty cool [TS]

00:58:49   the vehicle [TS]

00:58:49   great job and I feel like maybe they [TS]

00:58:51   said this is great [TS]

00:58:53   you know we should do let's have more [TS]

00:58:55   puppets let's put more puppets in to [TS]

00:58:57   return of the jedi and I think there are [TS]

00:59:00   too many puppets and return of the jedi [TS]

00:59:02   I also there's some different people in [TS]

00:59:04   suits to like I think Admiral Ackbar is [TS]

00:59:07   more of a guy in a suit then he is a [TS]

00:59:09   puppet [TS]

00:59:10   so I'm okay with it the one back bar top [TS]

00:59:13   it's not even close to know he's a guy [TS]

00:59:14   in a suit exact he is a piece of puppet [TS]

00:59:16   is your puppet [TS]

00:59:17   I thought it was more his part easily he [TS]

00:59:19   is at least kind of people over sand [TS]

00:59:21   puppet his head is where leaves a small [TS]

00:59:23   wedding that Sonny is man's hand [TS]

00:59:25   ok so it's hard to love with someone and [TS]

00:59:27   someone is operating lots of parties [TS]

00:59:29   react or guys okay you guys are [TS]

00:59:31   deconstructing my intro so let me [TS]

00:59:33   continue but the weird thing that [TS]

00:59:35   happened is that the one will get there [TS]

00:59:37   John but the one that gets me is uh [TS]

00:59:40   Lando's copilot nyan um on the money in [TS]

00:59:45   the exciting battle of endor where we've [TS]

00:59:48   got a really stupid looking puppet in [TS]

00:59:50   the copilot's seat of the millennium [TS]

00:59:52   falcon no no no make it somebody I you [TS]

00:59:56   know make it something better than a [TS]

00:59:58   dumb puppet so I think [TS]

00:59:58   dumb puppet so I think [TS]

01:00:00   that that's that that's why would I say [TS]

01:00:01   is the dumb thing from the from the [TS]

01:00:03   original trilogy dumb puppet in the [TS]

01:00:05   copilot's seat of the Millennium Falcon [TS]

01:00:07   I just mean articulated faces like his [TS]

01:00:09   little motor moving his little lip [TS]

01:00:11   because i'm pretty sure that's a guy you [TS]

01:00:13   know you're dressed up with the thing on [TS]

01:00:15   his head [TS]

01:00:15   yeah I think that's like guys more men [TS]

01:00:17   than puppet both a puppeteer Andy [TS]

01:00:20   costumed actor during the film [TS]

01:00:22   good lord that you wouldn't give him a [TS]

01:00:23   medal either which I would not give him [TS]

01:00:25   a tune in next week for puppet or not [TS]

01:00:27   yeah haha anyway I don't I I never like [TS]

01:00:30   that character I think he looks dumb and [TS]

01:00:32   I don't want him in that seat and I [TS]

01:00:34   don't know why they did it [TS]

01:00:35   other than that they fought hey its star [TS]

01:00:37   wars we got lots of weird puppet / [TS]

01:00:39   people in suits [TS]

01:00:40   let's have more of those and that's fine [TS]

01:00:42   but that's not a good way to someone for [TS]

01:00:43   Lando to talk to and to talk back in the [TS]

01:00:46   same way that she does which is you know [TS]

01:00:48   indecipherable e action figures [TS]

01:00:50   yeah it and there's that episode of [TS]

01:00:53   venture brothers where they conjure one [TS]

01:00:55   up from a trading card so you know you [TS]

01:00:57   went on to have a prestigious career [TS]

01:00:59   after this I don't like him [TS]

01:01:01   there it is I said it wasn't around for [TS]

01:01:04   an item from ancillary media something [TS]

01:01:07   that's not the main line films that you [TS]

01:01:09   just can't take John alright you would [TS]

01:01:13   think that i'm going to pick the holiday [TS]

01:01:14   special which is terrible but i'm not [TS]

01:01:17   going to somebody else talk about i'm [TS]

01:01:20   going to pick item from answer me that [TS]

01:01:22   you just can't take i'm going to select [TS]

01:01:24   the prequels because I consider a mac [TS]

01:01:26   and their crap [TS]

01:01:29   yea big swing and I've said we've [TS]

01:01:32   already done three episodes lot about [TS]

01:01:34   that maybe the key point is viewing them [TS]

01:01:37   as ancillary media is that is the stance [TS]

01:01:38   of most original trilogy fanatics [TS]

01:01:41   alright I'll allow it because why not [TS]

01:01:44   uh-buh-bye not David I'm going to take [TS]

01:01:47   kind of a similar view and just say all [TS]

01:01:50   of the novels i just i have i have a [TS]

01:01:53   rebuttal on my turn right there's just [TS]

01:01:55   not a single novel that was satisfying [TS]

01:01:58   all the way through or interesting or [TS]

01:02:00   sounded right it's every one of them [TS]

01:02:03   just and I read too many of them I [TS]

01:02:06   didn't learn even even the ones that are [TS]

01:02:09   quote unquote the good ones can't stand [TS]

01:02:12   them [TS]

01:02:13   the the throne trilogy can't stand it [TS]

01:02:15   i'm sorry it's just David get out so [TS]

01:02:20   yeah the the only novel that amuses me [TS]

01:02:23   at all this splinter the mind's eye but [TS]

01:02:25   it's not because it's good [TS]

01:02:26   did you read the any of the collection [TS]

01:02:27   of short stories like tales from MOS [TS]

01:02:29   eisley or tails from Jabba's palace that [TS]

01:02:32   get backstories to all the people in [TS]

01:02:34   there [TS]

01:02:34   I did not read those but i have heard [TS]

01:02:36   good things about them and they're not [TS]

01:02:38   novel around on novel haha he's got you [TS]

01:02:40   there huh yeah they start over every few [TS]

01:02:42   pages it's helpful right it's marks [TS]

01:02:44   ancillary item you can take well i'm [TS]

01:02:48   going to talk about books a little bit [TS]

01:02:49   more the I I like some of the novels and [TS]

01:02:52   especially during the what I call the [TS]

01:02:53   dark ages where you know there was no [TS]

01:02:55   star wars for a very long time the [TS]

01:02:57   timothy zahn novels actually I thought [TS]

01:02:59   were great because it was new Star Wars [TS]

01:03:01   and I was very hungry for new Star Wars [TS]

01:03:03   but the problem was i started reading [TS]

01:03:06   them all and I got into some that were [TS]

01:03:09   just terrible and the ones that stand [TS]

01:03:11   out to me as the absolute worst ever [TS]

01:03:13   written about Star Wars was the Yuuzhan [TS]

01:03:15   Vong novels and I don't know anybody [TS]

01:03:18   here when that deep into the stack is I [TS]

01:03:20   did but the third is horrible it's a [TS]

01:03:23   it's like a villain from another galaxy [TS]

01:03:24   it's almost it's like a bad Star Trek [TS]

01:03:28   episode imposed on Star Wars and i only [TS]

01:03:31   want to talk about the details of it but [TS]

01:03:32   I read two or three of them and I said [TS]

01:03:34   no more no more [TS]

01:03:36   well I read this so if you're out there [TS]

01:03:38   and you think about these on rondavels i [TS]

01:03:40   would get rid of them at an enlightening [TS]

01:03:42   or a happy moment is that i just looked [TS]

01:03:45   it up on wikipedia and said when Star [TS]

01:03:46   Wars Canon was changed Yuuzhan Vong were [TS]

01:03:48   rendered non-canon so now they have been [TS]

01:03:51   them removed soviet-style from Star Wars [TS]

01:03:54   I should amend the Han Solo novels from [TS]

01:03:58   the late seventies are not bad but the [TS]

01:04:02   land o colors are novels a great really [TS]

01:04:03   bad keep digging David Orlando ones are [TS]

01:04:05   hilarious because they were super high [TS]

01:04:07   dam ok well now we're trying to decide [TS]

01:04:10   if if David basically just sniped mine i [TS]

01:04:13   had a specific one in mind and I don't [TS]

01:04:15   know if that I'm going to turn to the [TS]

01:04:16   judge for a ruling on that one or did he [TS]

01:04:18   just blanket all of those this is a [TS]

01:04:20   silly round so just do what makes you [TS]

01:04:23   feel good to me ok so it's likely [TS]

01:04:25   david i read i read many of the novel's [TS]

01:04:28   basically all the way through and i [TS]

01:04:31   really like the thrawn trilogy that has [TS]

01:04:33   a very special place in my teenage life [TS]

01:04:35   because it was in that dark period where [TS]

01:04:37   there was no more star wars and I've [TS]

01:04:38   gone back and reread those several times [TS]

01:04:40   I'll admit they're not the greatest in [TS]

01:04:41   the world but i just i love them their [TS]

01:04:42   guilty pleasures i read basically [TS]

01:04:45   everything all the way up to the very [TS]

01:04:48   first of this new jedi order as the [TS]

01:04:50   Yuuzhan Vong storyline is called and [TS]

01:04:52   typical vector prime x ra salvatore II [TS]

01:04:54   was necessary everybody DNT novels and [TS]

01:04:57   the most degrees i read I i made it [TS]

01:04:59   probably within 50 pages of the end and [TS]

01:05:02   at that point and David David probably [TS]

01:05:04   knows exactly what i'm talking about [TS]

01:05:05   point they kill chewy and I was so angry [TS]

01:05:11   about that I literally it's at the end [TS]

01:05:13   of a chapter I closed the book did not [TS]

01:05:15   finish it and did not read another star [TS]

01:05:17   wars book for probably a decade after [TS]

01:05:19   that because i was so upset that they [TS]

01:05:22   had killed Chewbacca who is one of my [TS]

01:05:24   favorite characters for like she liked [TS]

01:05:26   saves one of Hans kids or something and [TS]

01:05:28   he's left on a planet that explodes it's [TS]

01:05:31   really dumb do and so I got so angry [TS]

01:05:34   about that like for a long time I just [TS]

01:05:36   was not like reading star wars or even [TS]

01:05:38   like I think that was planned when I [TS]

01:05:40   came out late nineties i want to say or [TS]

01:05:42   maybe around 2,000 so is also maybe [TS]

01:05:43   around the prequels time and at that [TS]

01:05:45   point I was like I'm so done with [TS]

01:05:46   everything so that was like my my [TS]

01:05:49   darkest part of my star wars history is [TS]

01:05:51   because they kill Chewbacca in the novel [TS]

01:05:53   that is why i will never read another ra [TS]

01:05:55   salvatore ebook ever I've never read a [TS]

01:05:57   Star Wars Expanded Universe novel at all [TS]

01:05:59   and the extended universe books killing [TS]

01:06:02   off to it was on my list [TS]

01:06:03   yeah because i know that's the thing [TS]

01:06:05   that happened I'm like wait a second you [TS]

01:06:07   can't kill chewy you don't even count [TS]

01:06:09   stupid extended universe books that I've [TS]

01:06:10   never read and the rationale was that [TS]

01:06:12   like they wanted to like raise the [TS]

01:06:14   stakes and like make it seem like nobody [TS]

01:06:16   is safe and like like david says these [TS]

01:06:18   are terrible like Star Trek II Star Wars [TS]

01:06:21   novels that really make no sense [TS]

01:06:23   whatsoever and it was just a terrible [TS]

01:06:25   decision on the Lucasfilm marketing [TS]

01:06:26   department good news everybody he's [TS]

01:06:28   alive and all that got wiped out of [TS]

01:06:31   existence i was so happy about that yeah [TS]

01:06:33   joe i'm going to pick the Ewok movies [TS]

01:06:38   yeah I don't I I couldn't you couldn't [TS]

01:06:42   even articulate the plot lines of what [TS]

01:06:43   was what I've seen in them because i [TS]

01:06:45   haven't gone back to watch them at all [TS]

01:06:47   I have recommended a couple times that [TS]

01:06:49   you guys should do that for [TS]

01:06:51   uncomfortable episodes of you guys at [TS]

01:06:53   the holiday special but you are not [TS]

01:06:54   tonight it there they're just just [TS]

01:06:58   there's kids there's kids and they have [TS]

01:07:00   an adventure with Ewoks that's why i [TS]

01:07:03   remember i don't like children in [TS]

01:07:07   general I especially don't like child [TS]

01:07:08   actors and putting them in a film with [TS]

01:07:11   little furry creatures they can't really [TS]

01:07:12   talk it's just a recipe for disaster [TS]

01:07:15   yeah yeah they're bad they were they [TS]

01:07:17   were beaten for those who don't know [TS]

01:07:18   they're like a TV movie made-for-tv [TS]

01:07:20   movies featuring the Ewoks I have [TS]

01:07:23   memories of watching them as a kid [TS]

01:07:25   well that's what that's what they were [TS]

01:07:26   going for his little little kids you [TS]

01:07:29   were the target I can't but I I honestly [TS]

01:07:31   remember very little about it at this [TS]

01:07:33   point even though I'm sure I saw each of [TS]

01:07:34   those movies a couple times i can [TS]

01:07:36   remember a couple of scenes here and [TS]

01:07:37   there i think i've seen it multiple [TS]

01:07:39   times I must've aired it multiple times [TS]

01:07:41   and I'm sure everything I have a tape [TS]

01:07:43   but I remember like it yeah i might have [TS]

01:07:45   had it on tape to remember like you know [TS]

01:07:46   being offensive to me as a kid but not [TS]

01:07:48   feeling at all like star wars in any [TS]

01:07:50   possible way was incredibly [TS]

01:07:52   disappointing for something advertised [TS]

01:07:53   as being somehow related to star wars [TS]

01:07:55   and I recognized he walks like i get i [TS]

01:07:57   get that connection but otherwise there [TS]

01:07:59   is no star wars in there [TS]

01:08:00   yeah what wicket was there you know they [TS]

01:08:02   have work Davis and it's just it was a [TS]

01:08:05   waste of time [TS]

01:08:06   yep so narrated by burr lives of course [TS]

01:08:10   you can't go wrong with / lives [TS]

01:08:13   narrating your think Monty ancillary [TS]

01:08:15   item this is a bit of a stretch know [TS]

01:08:17   what you said this is the silly i have a [TS]

01:08:20   sensible answer to it this get rejected [TS]

01:08:22   but I'm going to distract use the word [TS]

01:08:24   media covers a lot of different things [TS]

01:08:26   there's films there's books is a food [TS]

01:08:29   item action figures [TS]

01:08:31   specifically you know those holes in the [TS]

01:08:33   bottom of the action figures right on [TS]

01:08:35   the heel that are supposed to attach [TS]

01:08:36   them to the place as they stand up they [TS]

01:08:39   don't work [TS]

01:08:40   Ibaka is always falling down and furious [TS]

01:08:43   and those holes [TS]

01:08:44   I'm not [TS]

01:08:45   when you're talking about they don't [TS]

01:08:47   work fine it's jammed in here right on [TS]

01:08:49   there you have to put a little forced [TS]

01:08:50   into it [TS]

01:08:51   temperature management or I never wanted [TS]

01:08:54   a little bit [TS]

01:08:55   those holes are awful okay yeah just [TS]

01:08:57   make action figures that stand-up method [TS]

01:09:00   and I were definitely on the technology [TS]

01:09:02   of the nineteen eighties solid Monty i'm [TS]

01:09:04   going to give you that one because [TS]

01:09:05   that's that because I get to pick next [TS]

01:09:06   and that means that you can take mine so [TS]

01:09:08   i am going to sweep it sweep in there [TS]

01:09:11   and I'm gonna say yes the star wars [TS]

01:09:12   holiday special [TS]

01:09:14   he has to be included here but I'm not [TS]

01:09:16   gonna just pick the whole thing because [TS]

01:09:18   that seems like a little too easy i'm [TS]

01:09:21   gonna i'm gonna also specify the fact [TS]

01:09:24   that in the Star Wars Holiday Special we [TS]

01:09:26   learn that there's one key porn [TS]

01:09:29   yeah yeah it's very important Jason come [TS]

01:09:32   on and it's out by the way it's not porn [TS]

01:09:34   for humans about wookies it's porn for [TS]

01:09:36   walkies [TS]

01:09:37   yeah bring humans beach around about [TS]

01:09:40   human about humans [TS]

01:09:42   yeah a little weird yeah you're like [TS]

01:09:46   shaped cookies you think well it's [TS]

01:09:48   finally finished the workers have just [TS]

01:09:51   the first time low key sign a hairless [TS]

01:09:54   person they're like what [TS]

01:09:56   yeah anyway there you go let's move on [TS]

01:09:59   to the next round and then quickly [TS]

01:10:00   throughout the one thing I skipped over [TS]

01:10:02   in favor of my silly choice so sure fine [TS]

01:10:04   haha the ending of knights of the old [TS]

01:10:06   republic to oh yeah that's awful [TS]

01:10:09   religion is like they're of knights of [TS]

01:10:11   the old republic is a great game makes [TS]

01:10:13   the old republic to is a great game [TS]

01:10:14   until you get the last four hours then [TS]

01:10:16   they just ran out of time and there's no [TS]

01:10:17   game their sheep [TS]

01:10:18   yeah I i was going to have seriously [TS]

01:10:21   considering picking that but I abandoned [TS]

01:10:24   it because i figured it'd really [TS]

01:10:25   influenced my opinion of the original [TS]

01:10:27   star wars at all because I feel like [TS]

01:10:28   it's removed enough but at it in terms [TS]

01:10:31   of how it relates to the previous game [TS]

01:10:33   is just awful [TS]

01:10:35   absolutely let's move on to round five [TS]

01:10:37   is something from the prequels that you [TS]

01:10:39   wish just didn't exist [TS]

01:10:41   David lure the prequels I well okay okay [TS]

01:10:46   okay to make the the dialogue is just [TS]

01:10:50   every all the way the dialogue [TS]

01:10:54   sure I mean I mean if I had to narrow [TS]

01:10:57   down to you know specific granular [TS]

01:10:59   dialogue so to speak [TS]

01:11:01   I hate sand sand gets in everything I [TS]

01:11:05   you know I mean just every supposedly [TS]

01:11:08   tom stoppard helped on revenge of the [TS]

01:11:10   sith no no he didn't [TS]

01:11:12   it's all horrible yeah it's all her [TS]

01:11:14   everyone to be fair he was SQ is a [TS]

01:11:17   gunpoint the dialogue is off the board [TS]

01:11:20   David Sparkes other so much i know but [TS]

01:11:22   you have to pick something up [TS]

01:11:24   alright well one that's personal to me i [TS]

01:11:26   really loved yoda an episode 5 and the [TS]

01:11:29   CGI Yoda he looked bad i didn't like his [TS]

01:11:32   dialogue either i mean a frank oz once [TS]

01:11:35   described Yoda as in master who will [TS]

01:11:37   also eat the last cookie right in front [TS]

01:11:39   of you and I didn't get that whimsy with [TS]

01:11:42   him in the prequels and I didn't like [TS]

01:11:44   the way it looks solid [TS]

01:11:45   dan oh man again so many options i think [TS]

01:11:49   im gonna have to take charge our banks [TS]

01:11:51   off the table [TS]

01:11:52   okay yeah i think we can all agree with [TS]

01:11:54   the prequels we better get Jar Jar Binks [TS]

01:11:56   was nowhere to be found [TS]

01:11:57   Tom well we would be harder you know we [TS]

01:12:00   have to work slightly harder to hate [TS]

01:12:01   them as much as we do so thanks to jar [TS]

01:12:03   for that but otherwise it [TS]

01:12:05   yeah I guess Holiday you made it easy [TS]

01:12:07   Joe hayden christensen yes also unlike [TS]

01:12:10   me anything this is all like low-hanging [TS]

01:12:13   fruit so far yes we're all good it's all [TS]

01:12:16   good and we do a whole episode about [TS]

01:12:17   this but it's just it's a fun little [TS]

01:12:18   walk to the prequels and individual [TS]

01:12:21   items that we that we would choose Monty [TS]

01:12:23   younglings both the word and the actual [TS]

01:12:26   baby Jedi's we don't need CJ I preschool [TS]

01:12:30   by Young's one of my youngs John [TS]

01:12:33   something I've been something the [TS]

01:12:35   prequels you wish didn't exist i'm going [TS]

01:12:37   to go with couches because so many [TS]

01:12:39   channels into the propellant couple [TS]

01:12:41   second character that [TS]

01:12:42   no no couches at the very least they [TS]

01:12:44   would have had to stand rap space when [TS]

01:12:47   talking to each other and wouldn't have [TS]

01:12:48   been able to just sit there on the [TS]

01:12:49   couches and say stupid they're all [TS]

01:12:51   replaced with lazy boy just like having [TS]

01:12:53   if they're all on pool floats just think [TS]

01:12:54   about it [TS]

01:12:55   yeah oh that would be a much better [TS]

01:12:58   movie happy great i would love to see [TS]

01:13:00   that the I hate sand seen replayed but [TS]

01:13:03   it's it's a it's Anakin sitting in the [TS]

01:13:06   side of a pool with his legs in the [TS]

01:13:07   water and Amidala just in a pool float [TS]

01:13:09   out in the middle like rolling your eyes [TS]

01:13:11   i would love that [TS]

01:13:12   just floating by in my dream that's [TS]

01:13:15   right that's right he uses force power [TS]

01:13:18   to like flow to the other way I don't [TS]

01:13:20   know [TS]

01:13:21   alright here's mine Madonna is kinda [TS]

01:13:24   awesome in episode 1 and so the thing I [TS]

01:13:26   actually wish didn't exist is how she [TS]

01:13:29   gets sidelined and turned into the the [TS]

01:13:32   passive girlfriend especially in episode [TS]

01:13:35   what a waste of the actress and what a [TS]

01:13:38   waste of the character to that we're [TS]

01:13:41   street where she ends up so that's [TS]

01:13:42   that's the thing that I wish they'd that [TS]

01:13:44   they didn't do is sign sideline and get [TS]

01:13:46   us the kind of dumb useless Amidala who [TS]

01:13:49   we see later because uh good actress uh [TS]

01:13:51   interesting character and they blew it [TS]

01:13:53   that's the thing that bugs me it rankles [TS]

01:13:55   and she's cool episode 2 in that a arena [TS]

01:13:58   fight just like tonight it's different [TS]

01:14:00   it's really an episode 3 where her [TS]

01:14:02   character is destroyed but then you have [TS]

01:14:04   all the love dialogue between the [TS]

01:14:05   speaking of dialogue that's what I would [TS]

01:14:06   pick their whole courtship is like just [TS]

01:14:08   gag I'm we having that was on Miley yeah [TS]

01:14:11   yeah yeah I got most of the blame for [TS]

01:14:13   that on Hayden's line deliveries to her [TS]

01:14:16   but the dialogue she's giving us also [TS]

01:14:19   not forget you can excuse Jake Lloyd [TS]

01:14:20   from that one either [TS]

01:14:21   yeah yeah I think feel like people were [TS]

01:14:23   taking hayden christensen because they [TS]

01:14:25   didn't want to be mean to a kid but Jake [TS]

01:14:27   Lloyd oh goodness [TS]

01:14:28   yeah yeah well he was also on my list of [TS]

01:14:30   somebody had already picked a Christian [TS]

01:14:31   and I just I just dislike hate more [TS]

01:14:34   we don't have enough time to go through [TS]

01:14:36   all the things that we didn't mention [TS]

01:14:38   but i'll refer you to the like nine [TS]

01:14:41   hours of podcasting we did about the [TS]

01:14:43   prequels if you'd like to get back into [TS]

01:14:45   that and make your own list a couple [TS]

01:14:47   more rounds to go [TS]

01:14:49   here's another one where it's going to [TS]

01:14:51   be a little hard but I want you to think [TS]

01:14:52   it's been a year now what's the worst [TS]

01:14:54   thing [TS]

01:14:55   in retrospect in the force awakens David [TS]

01:14:59   Sparkes the thing that bugs me the most [TS]

01:15:02   and this is a new toner thing is at the [TS]

01:15:04   end after hon dies and they returned and [TS]

01:15:08   Leia standing there and chewy disembarks [TS]

01:15:12   from the Falcon and Leia and Chewie have [TS]

01:15:15   the super long relationship the two [TS]

01:15:17   people who loved him the most and chili [TS]

01:15:20   just walks right pastor and I don't know [TS]

01:15:22   what it's hit that instead she's going [TS]

01:15:25   to hug somebody who's relatively [TS]

01:15:27   stranger in her life and you know it [TS]

01:15:28   just feels to me like that moment if [TS]

01:15:31   they really wanted to have the scene of [TS]

01:15:33   lay embracing right that's great but [TS]

01:15:35   chewy should not have been in that scene [TS]

01:15:37   at all I mean watching him walk past i [TS]

01:15:38   just felt like that was like with this [TS]

01:15:40   guy i noticed it the first time I [TS]

01:15:42   watched the movie i'm thinking how did [TS]

01:15:44   this happen [TS]

01:15:44   I mean how did they not you know what [TS]

01:15:46   she should've done and she should have [TS]

01:15:47   had like had a metal and said this is [TS]

01:15:49   Hans you wanted to have to I said I'd [TS]

01:15:53   rather kiss a Wookiee that's not what [TS]

01:15:55   I'm like Lucas JJ admitted that was a [TS]

01:15:57   mistake yeah hello yeah right you [TS]

01:15:59   imagine that you said I'll we be messed [TS]

01:16:01   up sorry about that [TS]

01:16:02   yeah that the way they shot it was like [TS]

01:16:04   oh yeah we believe that but i agree with [TS]

01:16:06   you do thats that bugs me [TS]

01:16:08   dan I think i'm going to pick supreme [TS]

01:16:11   leader Snoke who is kind of a weird [TS]

01:16:14   carry you know I realized that this [TS]

01:16:16   seems a little premature because we [TS]

01:16:17   haven't seen the other shoe to drop [TS]

01:16:20   but I'm also not convinced that there is [TS]

01:16:21   another shoe that could drop that I [TS]

01:16:23   would be affectionate you know we we [TS]

01:16:26   have this weird holographic creature who [TS]

01:16:28   is done by andy serkis and who's [TS]

01:16:31   supposed to is very clearly the sort of [TS]

01:16:32   our Emperor analogy and I just at he [TS]

01:16:36   seems weird it seems weird that there's [TS]

01:16:38   this guy there that nobody knows about [TS]

01:16:39   or that I guess they do know about them [TS]

01:16:41   but they can't have [TS]

01:16:42   I just don't understand I don't [TS]

01:16:44   understand it seems one of the you know [TS]

01:16:46   people accuse the force awakens of Ewing [TS]

01:16:48   too closely to the original star wars [TS]

01:16:50   and I feel like this is one place where [TS]

01:16:52   it is right now it seems like that's a [TS]

01:16:56   weird decision that is just clearly [TS]

01:16:58   intended to set up a villain who is [TS]

01:17:00   worse than kylo Ren [TS]

01:17:01   III just don't there's no wait there [TS]

01:17:03   because we have no idea who this person [TS]

01:17:05   is the way Clinton cg need someone in [TS]

01:17:09   charge though because it without them [TS]

01:17:10   you just got a young color red who is [TS]

01:17:12   kind of a mess and you've got young [TS]

01:17:13   shouting harry potter guy who's also [TS]

01:17:16   seems too young to be in charge so you [TS]

01:17:18   need someone who's in charge doesn't [TS]

01:17:19   have to be out doesn't have to be a [TS]

01:17:20   holographic Emperor know but it has to [TS]

01:17:22   be a no yeah that's my point yeah I'm [TS]

01:17:24   okay with it also the name is dumb and [TS]

01:17:27   this isn't a franchise with a lot of [TS]

01:17:29   dumb knee [TS]

01:17:29   alright Joe what do you think [TS]

01:17:34   well dance night to my Snoke so are you [TS]

01:17:38   okay i suck your snow per ship if you're [TS]

01:17:41   gonna go with my my my backup option and [TS]

01:17:44   that is I really hate seeing the planet [TS]

01:17:49   explode from another planet yeah IM [TS]

01:17:52   system and it makes me angry nose on my [TS]

01:17:54   list [TS]

01:17:54   well done i was almost too i'm kind of [TS]

01:17:57   stretching the use of in retrospect [TS]

01:17:59   because I was furious when I was [TS]

01:18:00   watching yeah and those things are [TS]

01:18:02   taking place within moments after you [TS]

01:18:04   saw that you didn't like yeah you know [TS]

01:18:06   it you know the thing that bothers me is [TS]

01:18:08   that this really bugs the hell out of me [TS]

01:18:09   in in Star Trek yep and and then JJ and [TS]

01:18:14   did it again where it's like JJ you [TS]

01:18:16   can't see and it's in other solar [TS]

01:18:18   systems from the surface of a planet [TS]

01:18:20   space advisor what that all explode at [TS]

01:18:24   the same time with your magical [TS]

01:18:25   hyperspace weapon firing and splitting [TS]

01:18:28   and blowing up everything so you can you [TS]

01:18:30   can even see the way that it's working [TS]

01:18:32   from the the surface of another planet [TS]

01:18:34   through actually shoots viewscreens into [TS]

01:18:37   the atmosphere of a bunch of other [TS]

01:18:38   planets so that you can see it Monty uh [TS]

01:18:41   well I've only seen force awakens once [TS]

01:18:43   but as i remember they spend a lot of [TS]

01:18:45   time worrying about putting together a [TS]

01:18:47   map of the galaxy not like a map of an [TS]

01:18:50   island or something and I don't see why [TS]

01:18:53   they needed all the other parts when [TS]

01:18:55   r2d2's part is the only part that [TS]

01:18:57   actually has where Luke is [TS]

01:18:58   luckily r2 is just sleeping until it's [TS]

01:19:02   time for the movie to be over and then [TS]

01:19:04   he wakes up and says oh here you go [TS]

01:19:06   he's over there they even say at some [TS]

01:19:07   point like he probably doesn't have it [TS]

01:19:09   which is hilarious [TS]

01:19:11   I would like our tues awakening to be a [TS]

01:19:14   little more justified in that I think he [TS]

01:19:17   just wakes up because BBA just hanging [TS]

01:19:18   out with him a lot [TS]

01:19:19   yeah I have some complex headcam in here [TS]

01:19:21   but it's entirely made up because you're [TS]

01:19:23   right the movie doesn't support it [TS]

01:19:25   yeah i'm motivated yep John you just [TS]

01:19:28   stole my are two missing that piece one [TS]

01:19:30   because i think that was just-- needless [TS]

01:19:32   so i'm going to go with my second which [TS]

01:19:34   is much weaker but i think it's along [TS]

01:19:36   the same vein as the snow pic maz [TS]

01:19:39   kanata's castle place thing obviously an [TS]

01:19:42   echo of the cantina but I don't think it [TS]

01:19:45   has it doesn't have any residency there [TS]

01:19:48   like with the original it's luke coming [TS]

01:19:52   into basically the big cities a farm boy [TS]

01:19:54   comes into the big city he's not [TS]

01:19:55   prepared for the cantina at all the [TS]

01:19:58   aliens in the rough characters are going [TS]

01:19:59   to meet there and all that business [TS]

01:20:00   right he's he's out of his element when [TS]

01:20:03   they come to Mom's place Hans like oh [TS]

01:20:06   you know don't look at any of this stuff [TS]

01:20:07   like he gives the same speech like okay [TS]

01:20:08   you guys probably aren't ready for this [TS]

01:20:09   but if you like crazy aliens in there [TS]

01:20:11   but they are ready for it [TS]

01:20:13   I mean great comes from towns got crazy [TS]

01:20:15   aliens running around all the time Janet [TS]

01:20:16   Reno's other languages she's may not not [TS]

01:20:18   that the whole town that she's that is a [TS]

01:20:19   big hug but it's not a big thing to her [TS]

01:20:21   and the other thing has been trained as [TS]

01:20:24   a storm trooper and presently has been [TS]

01:20:25   around the galaxy so you mislike yes [TS]

01:20:28   shot a lot of people look like that [TS]

01:20:29   yeah this is that there's a fun gallery [TS]

01:20:31   of lots of fun aliens and it's [TS]

01:20:32   interesting setting but as an echo of [TS]

01:20:34   the cantina I feel like it it falls [TS]

01:20:36   flattens mostly there because JJ wanted [TS]

01:20:38   to have a cantina scene so now he does [TS]

01:20:40   it doesn't take away from the movie but [TS]

01:20:41   doesn't really do anything for me they [TS]

01:20:43   don't think David Dan and John kinda [TS]

01:20:45   foreshadowed me a little bit in in [TS]

01:20:49   general I would say Jays mystery box [TS]

01:20:51   when it comes to any of JJ Abrams films [TS]

01:20:54   he only has one box it's the same box [TS]

01:20:57   please go buy some more boxes JJ but [TS]

01:21:00   specifically in this it's it's it's not [TS]

01:21:03   that it's the echoes of everything I I [TS]

01:21:06   get the idea of having repeating cycles [TS]

01:21:11   and echoes and that's fine it's that the [TS]

01:21:14   echoes don't do anything interesting [TS]

01:21:16   with that cycle right it its it's pretty [TS]

01:21:21   much following the same template and you [TS]

01:21:23   know just like [TS]

01:21:24   going to mazza's and being you know a BB [TS]

01:21:27   prepared and you know it's going to be [TS]

01:21:28   crazy in there and then it's not crazy [TS]

01:21:31   in there and they're ready for it but [TS]

01:21:34   there's no real payoff to that either [TS]

01:21:35   its it all these little echoes that [TS]

01:21:38   don't do anything except echo that's [TS]

01:21:41   like I want a twist i want you know if [TS]

01:21:44   if your movie is a Rubik's Cube try and [TS]

01:21:47   solve it solve it in a different way [TS]

01:21:49   turn multiple ways to solve it you know [TS]

01:21:52   just don't do it exactly the same way [TS]

01:21:54   alright I for mine i'm going to say [TS]

01:21:57   something that is very similar to the [TS]

01:21:59   direction that David was pointing I feel [TS]

01:22:00   like we've been moving in a direction [TS]

01:22:01   here which is quite simply I don't think [TS]

01:22:06   that we needed another Death Star [TS]

01:22:10   mhm and Starkiller base ultimately is [TS]

01:22:13   just another Death Star except it's [TS]

01:22:15   garbage into a planet instead of built [TS]

01:22:17   and I appreciate the echoes again of of [TS]

01:22:22   the past movies but if you pretend of [TS]

01:22:25   prequels don't exist that's three out of [TS]

01:22:27   five movement or three or four movie [TS]

01:22:30   sorry three out of four movies that uh [TS]

01:22:32   have a giant planet killing weapon ball [TS]

01:22:36   yeah and it's just it no I mean I I feel [TS]

01:22:40   like they could have had a dangerous [TS]

01:22:41   space weapon or some other thing on a [TS]

01:22:44   planet that was not literally [TS]

01:22:46   what if the Death Star wasn't a planet [TS]

01:22:48   instead of a space station and it bugs [TS]

01:22:51   me [TS]

01:22:52   not as much as jetstar were one of us [TS]

01:22:55   yeah I just what if any medicine but if [TS]

01:22:58   penny meadow start honestly jose pic was [TS]

01:23:01   the one that really was at the top of my [TS]

01:23:02   list but next up with Starkiller base i [TS]

01:23:04   just i i i there's some nice stuff that [TS]

01:23:07   happens on that's you know on Starkiller [TS]

01:23:10   base plan as a retread of the Death Star [TS]

01:23:13   I felt like it was too too much and it [TS]

01:23:15   wasn't necessary i think this is an echo [TS]

01:23:17   that actually does have a twist on it [TS]

01:23:20   because they you know when we know the [TS]

01:23:23   whole han solo scene is going on there [TS]

01:23:25   so that's our mean that's what we really [TS]

01:23:26   care about right but during that there's [TS]

01:23:28   the little Maj the trench run which is [TS]

01:23:30   you know at risk is darker whatever in [TS]

01:23:32   the shooting and they blow it up [TS]

01:23:33   they're all flying away from it in that [TS]

01:23:35   shot but it's not celebratory it is the [TS]

01:23:39   opposite of the way we blow up the Death [TS]

01:23:41   Star from Star Wars right is because [TS]

01:23:44   what we just saw happened even the music [TS]

01:23:46   cues you to end it i love how they have [TS]

01:23:47   like the thing glowing really bright [TS]

01:23:49   that overwhelms the silhouettes of the [TS]

01:23:51   ships in front of it it is not a [TS]

01:23:53   celebration of a great victory it is an [TS]

01:23:55   acknowledgement of the loss we just [TS]

01:23:56   experienced inside we've defeated this [TS]

01:23:58   thing but it's still a pretty common [TS]

01:24:02   I I'm I you know I I don't think you [TS]

01:24:04   need to have a giant desktop around like [TS]

01:24:05   they're going to include it they're [TS]

01:24:06   gonna do a giant you know planet killing [TS]

01:24:08   ball [TS]

01:24:09   I like the fact that he didn't blow up [TS]

01:24:10   and we all cheer at the end because that [TS]

01:24:12   right with no metal you know metals [TS]

01:24:14   given out here and and that that is [TS]

01:24:16   absolutely right that is the one thing [TS]

01:24:17   that if that had been several planet [TS]

01:24:19   killing balls earlier would have been a [TS]

01:24:21   great you know you know green he doesn't [TS]

01:24:24   have a planet coming ball in it so [TS]

01:24:26   there's that sorry you guys are not [TS]

01:24:27   gonna like the galaxy exploding ball [TS]

01:24:29   that David you place a lien balls is not [TS]

01:24:32   a measure of time it's a measure of [TS]

01:24:33   distance okay that well it's really [TS]

01:24:37   amazing weight is what it is all right [TS]

01:24:39   let's move on to our final round where [TS]

01:24:41   we're gonna we've been negative if it's [TS]

01:24:43   true we have been but you know what [TS]

01:24:45   we're gonna get positive here with this [TS]

01:24:47   last round which is I would like each of [TS]

01:24:50   you to provide me with a bad thing in [TS]

01:24:53   star wars that could be made good via a [TS]

01:24:57   new Star Wars story anthology movie like [TS]

01:25:01   rogue one or the han solo movie that's [TS]

01:25:03   coming in a couple years something that [TS]

01:25:06   you could improve by making a movie [TS]

01:25:09   focused on it and for this last round [TS]

01:25:13   guess what i'm going to go first no I [TS]

01:25:16   know breaking president we're gonna make [TS]

01:25:18   a star wars a standalone movie or Jason [TS]

01:25:20   doesn't go first [TS]

01:25:21   as was foretold actually buy [TS]

01:25:25   surprisingly by a pic earlier in the [TS]

01:25:27   draft [TS]

01:25:28   I'm going to say it I want a movie that [TS]

01:25:31   retcons the death by sadness of POD may [TS]

01:25:36   and shows us the life that she leads [TS]

01:25:39   after the kids are born [TS]

01:25:41   we're late baby Leia actually knows her [TS]

01:25:44   little bit but she's very young and what [TS]

01:25:47   her maybe she's in hiding on Alderaan or [TS]

01:25:50   something like that show me that get [TS]

01:25:52   natalie portman back and we do a little [TS]

01:25:55   movie about Padre and a secret mission [TS]

01:25:57   that she has to do and it's the real [TS]

01:25:59   story about what happened to Luke and [TS]

01:26:01   Leia's mother because it was all vacate [TS]

01:26:05   was a setup fee they have faked her [TS]

01:26:07   death they are ya because they need our [TS]

01:26:09   theater director she's dead right so [TS]

01:26:11   that is my daughter into and put on two [TS]

01:26:13   different planets [TS]

01:26:14   so that's my that's my theory Padma I [TS]

01:26:17   thought you were gonna pick a movie that [TS]

01:26:19   makes me and um actually be sucked me in [TS]

01:26:22   the early years of me and um sure yeah [TS]

01:26:24   Dan whatever what's a bad thing and star [TS]

01:26:26   wars that could be made good by a new [TS]

01:26:28   star wars in college movie not enough [TS]

01:26:30   Lando yep and so well i'll spend a [TS]

01:26:34   little bit because I think that's the [TS]

01:26:35   the Cleve answer but the longer answer [TS]

01:26:36   is you know certainly up until episode 7 [TS]

01:26:39   and even there to a certain extent [TS]

01:26:41   diversity not one of Star Wars strong [TS]

01:26:43   points [TS]

01:26:44   I feel like it's great that we've got a [TS]

01:26:46   movie coming out in written form robot [TS]

01:26:48   with a female lead [TS]

01:26:49   that's fantastic but i think it would [TS]

01:26:51   definitely be great to see a more [TS]

01:26:53   diverse star wars universe in terms of [TS]

01:26:56   you know it's developing characters with [TS]

01:26:59   more people of color and women and every [TS]

01:27:02   just across the gamut [TS]

01:27:04   I think we really need a a star wars [TS]

01:27:07   some more Star Wars stuff that focuses [TS]

01:27:09   on you know sort of a broader range and [TS]

01:27:13   and diversity of people [TS]

01:27:15   Lando obviously one of my one of my [TS]

01:27:17   favorite characters and so i really look [TS]

01:27:18   forward to seeing him appear in the [TS]

01:27:20   hustle movie but like gosh darn it [TS]

01:27:21   wasn't landed deserve his own movie [TS]

01:27:23   that's what I'm saying I just wait [TS]

01:27:24   Donald Glover stuff too i know i feel [TS]

01:27:26   like that's right that's rich right [TS]

01:27:28   there so like we we gotta we gotta spin [TS]

01:27:29   that off from the Han Solo he's gonna be [TS]

01:27:31   great i have no worries about that Joe [TS]

01:27:34   I have kind of a weird broad thing and [TS]

01:27:36   that i would I really like the droids [TS]

01:27:38   and star wars but i always have found it [TS]

01:27:41   strange that there seems to be zero [TS]

01:27:43   interest in the exploring how sentient [TS]

01:27:48   or subservient or what level of freedom [TS]

01:27:52   the droids really have [TS]

01:27:54   so I kind of want to see something that [TS]

01:27:57   pursues something more we're ia the [TS]

01:28:01   droid maybe c-3po maybe your to do to [TS]

01:28:04   maybe someone we don't know yet [TS]

01:28:07   and in just kind of puts it out there [TS]

01:28:09   that maybe they can make some choices [TS]

01:28:12   that aren't necessarily tied to the [TS]

01:28:15   wishes of the main cast of humans in a [TS]

01:28:19   movie so that would be something I would [TS]

01:28:21   like they should do it is a saturday [TS]

01:28:22   morning cartoon series know what I was [TS]

01:28:24   gonna be a one-off Lord world [TS]

01:28:27   Monty Jedi fighting styles are kind of [TS]

01:28:31   all over the map in the movies you have [TS]

01:28:33   them kind of kendo inspired in 1977 [TS]

01:28:36   because they're allocated star David [TS]

01:28:38   Prowse were super flippy but then later [TS]

01:28:42   you get episode one where everybody is [TS]

01:28:43   our is doing ray park flips and then you [TS]

01:28:46   get 2 episode 3 where everybody is CGI [TS]

01:28:48   in doing triple backflips [TS]

01:28:50   so what I'd like is a movie that [TS]

01:28:53   explains all Jedi fighting shows [TS]

01:28:56   different styles than we've seen and [TS]

01:28:58   comes to some sort of justification for [TS]

01:29:00   why really this kendo fighting is the [TS]

01:29:04   most advanced version and it's all that [TS]

01:29:07   flipping around that obi-wan was doing [TS]

01:29:10   in his youth [TS]

01:29:11   that's because he wasn't a master like [TS]

01:29:13   he is now and the advantage of doing [TS]

01:29:14   this is a movie you it would be like [TS]

01:29:17   eighty percent dead i fighting [TS]

01:29:19   20-percent history lecture which I'm [TS]

01:29:22   totally on board more [TS]

01:29:24   alright that's a high history lecture [TS]

01:29:27   percentage for a popular movie asset [TS]

01:29:29   instead popular it's a star wars on [TS]

01:29:31   occasion by it's a criterion collection [TS]

01:29:32   of Star Wars I can't wait to see how the [TS]

01:29:34   drunken master technique that is exactly [TS]

01:29:37   but let's see some weird fighting styles [TS]

01:29:40   of martial arts movie i love it [TS]

01:29:42   yeah I think we're gonna get some of [TS]

01:29:44   that road 1 John so i read i guess i [TS]

01:29:48   can't say that i just want to reboot the [TS]

01:29:49   entire prequels and and do a do-over on [TS]

01:29:51   that because that wouldn't be going if [TS]

01:29:54   they wouldn't be an anthology movie so [TS]

01:29:55   Palpatine is one of the best things in [TS]

01:29:58   the prequels it's a good actor and he [TS]

01:30:00   and generally you know delivered his [TS]

01:30:02   lines well and everything but because [TS]

01:30:04   you know but he still that's that's so [TS]

01:30:06   weak point of the entire [TS]

01:30:07   the reason is kind of annoying to have a [TS]

01:30:08   secret identity drawing on everything [TS]

01:30:10   but to redeem that character which is [TS]

01:30:12   Palpatine from the prequels not [TS]

01:30:14   Palpatine the original trilogy i would [TS]

01:30:16   like a young Palpatine story it sorry [TS]

01:30:18   the story of his ascension to be to the [TS]

01:30:20   the head of the secret city auditor it [TS]

01:30:23   doesn't have to be the darth plagueis [TS]

01:30:25   thing like we don't know for certain as [TS]

01:30:27   of the the prequels but he's talking [TS]

01:30:29   about himself although he probably is so [TS]

01:30:30   you can make up any story you want for [TS]

01:30:32   young Palpatine discovering the forest [TS]

01:30:35   and discovering that he kind of wants to [TS]

01:30:37   rule the dark side of it so little young [TS]

01:30:39   Palpatine says are you an angel to [TS]

01:30:42   general are you at Temple exactly [TS]

01:30:46   opposite SII picture it being basically [TS]

01:30:48   season three of the wire and Tommy [TS]

01:30:49   Carcetti is your delta t he also [TS]

01:30:52   constructed a droid artoo-detoo that's [TS]

01:30:57   ok wipes wipes his memory it's fine no [TS]

01:30:59   no no [TS]

01:31:02   Oh David well you know I i kinda want to [TS]

01:31:06   know more about these characters just [TS]

01:31:07   because they made such an impression on [TS]

01:31:09   me at such a young age and and I revisit [TS]

01:31:13   this every couple years I i watch it [TS]

01:31:16   again and I just I want to know more [TS]

01:31:18   about them i want to know how they ended [TS]

01:31:19   up in this place I want to know if they [TS]

01:31:21   know each other and and if they may be [TS]

01:31:23   end up together [TS]

01:31:24   I want a prequel movie about Art Carney [TS]

01:31:26   and be Arthur from the Highlands knew [TS]

01:31:29   David was gonna bring everything through [TS]

01:31:33   how do they know each other but you [TS]

01:31:35   would improve it [TS]

01:31:36   what is the relationship with Diahann [TS]

01:31:38   Carroll in the wiki porn he can't you [TS]

01:31:41   can't make it worse just to a gritty [TS]

01:31:43   life day reboot [TS]

01:31:45   blood everywhere like it sounds like [TS]

01:31:47   that's got out there is a lot of tragedy [TS]

01:31:49   that happened on life day David Sparkes [TS]

01:31:51   you get to you get to closes down here [TS]

01:31:53   what's up what's up what's a anthology [TS]

01:31:55   movie you want to see a bit of a stretch [TS]

01:31:57   but one of my problems with the prequels [TS]

01:31:59   is the way they take baby Luke you know [TS]

01:32:02   they want to hide him so they take him [TS]

01:32:04   to Anakin stepbrother the house he grew [TS]

01:32:06   up in and leave you know I don't forget [TS]

01:32:10   as thinking man there's a lot of other [TS]

01:32:12   places i would have started but either [TS]

01:32:14   way so you've got yo you gotta only one [TS]

01:32:17   of my favorite characters in the wild [TS]

01:32:18   here to look out after this kid and and [TS]

01:32:21   somehow Luke makes it to be teenager [TS]

01:32:23   without having you know the world [TS]

01:32:25   tumbling on him [TS]

01:32:26   I bet there would be some great stories [TS]

01:32:28   about how I'll be one in the background [TS]

01:32:32   was protecting him and looking out for [TS]

01:32:33   him and I think that would be an [TS]

01:32:35   excellent movie almost like like a [TS]

01:32:37   Western maybe but then adjust obi-wan [TS]

01:32:40   alone out there in his little hovel [TS]

01:32:42   looking over this kid you just pitched [TS]

01:32:44   the escort mission the movie I think you [TS]

01:32:46   and McGregor has pitched this movie is [TS]

01:32:48   something so yeah I heard that he was [TS]

01:32:50   interested and he'd be the right age to [TS]

01:32:51   do it now so hopefully they'll make that [TS]

01:32:53   one [TS]

01:32:54   alright we've reached the end we have we [TS]

01:32:56   have uh I don't know gotten some of our [TS]

01:32:58   feelings out about things that are not [TS]

01:33:00   so great in Star Wars movie showed a [TS]

01:33:01   little optimism and of course there's a [TS]

01:33:03   new star wars movie coming soon and and [TS]

01:33:08   relentlessly everyone every year forever [TS]

01:33:11   so more to talk about about star wars [TS]

01:33:34   of weird [TS]

01:33:34   alright just make that the portion size [TS]

01:33:36   portion control yeah but what do you got [TS]

01:33:41   against fractions just weird [TS]
