00:00:03   the incomparable no 321 October 2060 [TS]

00:00:12   uncomfortable on your host Jason snow [TS]

00:00:14   we're here to take another tour through [TS]

00:00:16   a Pixar movie we're finishing up until [TS]

00:00:18   they release another one next year the [TS]

00:00:19   Toy Story series with 2010 toy story 3 [TS]

00:00:25   it came 11 years after the previous toy [TS]

00:00:27   story movie [TS]

00:00:28   sometimes you might call this like a [TS]

00:00:29   late sequel like you're Indiana Jones [TS]

00:00:32   and the whatever that was the skull [TS]

00:00:34   that's got aliens in it [TS]

00:00:35   I don't know what it's called anyway [TS]

00:00:36   it's it but it's not bad like that one [TS]

00:00:38   anyway to talk about this [TS]

00:00:40   Pixar sequel three cool if you will I [TS]

00:00:44   haven't joined by the following [TS]

00:00:45   wonderful people David floor [TS]

00:00:46   hello hello there there's a picture of a [TS]

00:00:48   monkey on my screen who could that be [TS]

00:00:50   oh it's Merlin Mann hi Merlin name right [TS]

00:00:53   woodlot so does Tiffany are mint is here [TS]

00:00:57   hello hi get the tortilla and Steve [TS]

00:00:59   what's uh have a good evening Jason no [TS]

00:01:03   owners means no heartbreaking and John [TS]

00:01:07   siracusa I can't wait to discover my [TS]

00:01:09   spanish mode during this body is no no [TS]

00:01:11   mm let's say anything there's gonna be [TS]

00:01:15   another toy story movie there cannot [TS]

00:01:17   possibly be more stories to be told in [TS]

00:01:19   the toy story universe is something i [TS]

00:01:21   said in 2008 yeah uh-huh just keep [TS]

00:01:25   making new kids the toy stay the same [TS]

00:01:27   age right all right all right now you go [TS]

00:01:30   tomorrow on here to get my references [TS]

00:01:32   alright so toy story 3 they got the band [TS]

00:01:35   back together to make a to make another [TS]

00:01:37   movie and I'm wondering before i get [TS]

00:01:40   into just sort of walking us through the [TS]

00:01:41   plot so we can talk about what happens [TS]

00:01:42   in this movie anybody have any initial [TS]

00:01:44   thoughts opening statements or the like [TS]

00:01:46   that they'd like to share with us now [TS]

00:01:47   can we just start crying [TS]

00:01:49   yes we can just start crying now that's [TS]

00:01:52   gonna get you cry all the way through if [TS]

00:01:54   you want you can get a woman trying [TS]

00:01:55   that's what crying right it's tough i [TS]

00:01:59   actually I bought this on blu-ray and [TS]

00:02:01   then didn't watch it for a long long [TS]

00:02:04   time because I just I didn't have the [TS]

00:02:06   emotional fortitude I felt to go put [TS]

00:02:10   myself through that again because I [TS]

00:02:12   remember so very clearly some of the [TS]

00:02:14   stuff that happens at the end of the [TS]

00:02:15   movie and so I forgotten some of the [TS]

00:02:17   delightful stuff that happens at the [TS]

00:02:19   beginning of the movie [TS]

00:02:20   yeah I only watched it once in the [TS]

00:02:22   theater and then [TS]

00:02:22   and watched it a couple of times for [TS]

00:02:24   this podcast and was surprised that i [TS]

00:02:27   didn't find it quite so heart-rending [TS]

00:02:30   this time I guess to being unprepared [TS]

00:02:33   for it is kind of what killed me that [TS]

00:02:35   the end in the original viewing we have [TS]

00:02:37   a four-year-old at home so he likes to [TS]

00:02:39   watch things over and over and over and [TS]

00:02:41   over so i probably have seen this movie [TS]

00:02:43   I don't know 70 80 times now and it [TS]

00:02:48   definitely gets easier dealing with it [TS]

00:02:50   but what I had to sit down by myself and [TS]

00:02:53   watch it for the podcast and actually [TS]

00:02:54   pay attention and write some notes down [TS]

00:02:56   yeah I cried like a baby so it doesn't [TS]

00:02:59   get any better [TS]

00:03:00   it's like the on opening weekend my [TS]

00:03:03   youngest was was five and the older one [TS]

00:03:07   was like I don't need to go see it [TS]

00:03:09   ok so i take i take the youngest one and [TS]

00:03:12   we go see the matinee and of course I'm [TS]

00:03:15   not prepared for it i don't know what's [TS]

00:03:17   gonna happen and and each level of the [TS]

00:03:21   story you know just kept hitting me like [TS]

00:03:22   a ton of bricks so by the end of the [TS]

00:03:24   movie i mean you know i will get into [TS]

00:03:27   all that later but i am just a Miss and [TS]

00:03:30   and through the credits the credits are [TS]

00:03:32   fun to sort of let you calm down and [TS]

00:03:35   stop the ugly crying because i don't i [TS]

00:03:37   don't cry at movies and i'm ugly crying [TS]

00:03:39   through this and and we get home and the [TS]

00:03:43   older one says how was it so i was [TS]

00:03:46   really good and it made me cry goes can [TS]

00:03:48   I go see it now and so am i literally no [TS]

00:03:52   you cannot I I got back in the car and [TS]

00:03:55   took him to see the next show that was [TS]

00:03:56   available and of course it was even [TS]

00:03:59   worse because now I know what's gonna [TS]

00:04:01   was coming and and i had i still have [TS]

00:04:03   not had you know days and weeks to [TS]

00:04:06   process all this and so now i'm just a [TS]

00:04:09   complete wreck by the end of the movie [TS]

00:04:11   and I look over and I didn't realize [TS]

00:04:14   this my partner in theater was across [TS]

00:04:16   the theater from us and I look over at [TS]

00:04:19   the end of movie and he looks over and [TS]

00:04:20   sees me really hey you're a mess too [TS]

00:04:22   awesome and our kids are just like hey [TS]

00:04:25   that was great [TS]

00:04:26   sad high five yeah the I actually that [TS]

00:04:30   there's one big crying moment that's the [TS]

00:04:31   reason that I didn't want to go back and [TS]

00:04:33   revisit this for a while that at [TS]

00:04:35   i I'm actually with Steve I didn't find [TS]

00:04:38   as quite as a tier inducing but then you [TS]

00:04:43   know after that there's more and that [TS]

00:04:45   got me so you know it's pics are they [TS]

00:04:47   talk they told us with that Jesse song [TS]

00:04:49   that you're going to crime pixar movies [TS]

00:04:51   and and it just is gonna happen because [TS]

00:04:53   it's there's a different character to [TS]

00:04:55   the the crying stuff in this movie in [TS]

00:04:58   that is kind of like a happy thing as [TS]

00:05:00   opposed to a heartbreaking thing started [TS]

00:05:02   to the jesse seen toy story 2 still just [TS]

00:05:04   kills me i could watch that over and [TS]

00:05:06   over again every time I ball and this [TS]

00:05:08   I've kind of made my peace with it i [TS]

00:05:11   think at this point yeah I had two funny [TS]

00:05:13   reactions on this is this along with day [TS]

00:05:16   of the doctor are my two guaranteed [TS]

00:05:18   ugly-cry watchings two things were like [TS]

00:05:20   it's amazing to me how many times I can [TS]

00:05:22   watch the doctor and they're still like [TS]

00:05:24   three times I ball during that and to [TS]

00:05:28   didn't hear this is and this time the [TS]

00:05:30   only time I really the end a well you [TS]

00:05:34   know my cowboy that's that to me that [TS]

00:05:37   dad was gonna get me every single time [TS]

00:05:38   what surprised me this time I can't [TS]

00:05:40   decide how much of a bad person this [TS]

00:05:42   makes me i am reminded how much i love i [TS]

00:05:46   guess the second act of this the [TS]

00:05:48   set-piece so you have in the middle of [TS]

00:05:50   this and I know I know what I'm sure [TS]

00:05:52   we'll talk about it but up a tooth I [TS]

00:05:53   mean did this time I really I really [TS]

00:05:55   because I felt a little more I had lots [TS]

00:05:58   of other things I was crying about in [TS]

00:05:59   America today so this wasn't so bad but [TS]

00:06:01   the but the set-pieces involving [TS]

00:06:04   especially getting briefed by the [TS]

00:06:06   telephone was so so great but the other [TS]

00:06:11   one that one that was unexpectedly funny [TS]

00:06:13   triangle go back and watch it without [TS]

00:06:15   the sound go watch the the sequence [TS]

00:06:17   where they're talking about Daisy [TS]

00:06:21   leaving them behind and it's it's very [TS]

00:06:24   very funny [TS]

00:06:24   I mean it's sad that it's very there's [TS]

00:06:27   something extremely funny about it to [TS]

00:06:29   them sitting on the fender constructing [TS]

00:06:32   away and I don't know I I maybe I'm just [TS]

00:06:35   having a weird week but that was [TS]

00:06:36   unexpectedly funny to me that if you go [TS]

00:06:38   back and watch it with the sound it's [TS]

00:06:40   hilarious [TS]

00:06:40   so let's uh let's get started with our [TS]

00:06:42   initial sequence just as we had a sort [TS]

00:06:45   of a sci-fi battle at the beginning of [TS]

00:06:47   toy story 2 that was like whoa what [TS]

00:06:48   going on and it was inside a video game [TS]

00:06:50   here what we get is something that's a [TS]

00:06:52   little bit different it is basically [TS]

00:06:54   Andy's imagination of him using all of [TS]

00:06:58   his characters to have this this train [TS]

00:07:01   heist to give woody his own genre for [TS]

00:07:04   once but what we're really seeing is not [TS]

00:07:06   a video game or a movie or something but [TS]

00:07:08   we're seeing Andy's imagination and it's [TS]

00:07:11   a fun little Western scene that happens [TS]

00:07:14   which integrates increasingly weird [TS]

00:07:16   things until it does get sci-fi because [TS]

00:07:18   you've got aliens and Buzz and so you [TS]

00:07:19   have to have it eventually and this is [TS]

00:07:22   our last moment with the old toy story [TS]

00:07:25   with young Andy and as soon as it's over [TS]

00:07:28   we are we are in grown-up Andy and [TS]

00:07:32   that's when the movie begins and he's [TS]

00:07:33   going off to college but we got that we [TS]

00:07:35   get that fuckin that last little moment [TS]

00:07:37   of of inspiration from from what we [TS]

00:07:40   expect from sort of the original to [TS]

00:07:42   stream movies starting again we bear [TS]

00:07:44   witness to the horrible destructive [TS]

00:07:46   power of barrel monkeys we saw them tear [TS]

00:07:49   somebody live from in the previous [TS]

00:07:51   previous episode I I wonder what [TS]

00:07:54   happened in in his early years to Andy [TS]

00:07:56   with a monkey that caused him to [TS]

00:07:58   consider monkeys these terrible lesson [TS]

00:08:00   so many Marcus's for John Lasseter that [TS]

00:08:03   could be i might be reading too much [TS]

00:08:05   into this but wasn't it [TS]

00:08:06   student track somewhat closely to the [TS]

00:08:09   play that Andy is doing at the beginning [TS]

00:08:11   of choice the first toy story is [TS]

00:08:13   negative this salary [TS]

00:08:14   yes i want to point that out totally [TS]

00:08:17   does yep even workshop money money money [TS]

00:08:20   money yeah LOL doctor porn shop right [TS]

00:08:22   but this is the production values are [TS]

00:08:23   much much greater now because we've got [TS]

00:08:25   the the bridge blowing up and you know [TS]

00:08:27   that there's a lot of lots of action [TS]

00:08:29   movie stuff that gets that we get to see [TS]

00:08:31   right because we're seeing through his [TS]

00:08:33   imagination is just mirrors ham wearing [TS]

00:08:35   the odd-job hat now it's totally yeah [TS]

00:08:38   he's wearing a porkpie hat you know [TS]

00:08:41   dad this movie uh it's not a dad jokes [TS]

00:08:45   on me I don't make the movie way to kill [TS]

00:08:48   the episode yeah good yeah yeah you did [TS]

00:08:50   it [TS]

00:08:51   it's the life away 22 um I think it's [TS]

00:08:54   into it and remembering what we know [TS]

00:08:57   about these toy story movies before we [TS]

00:08:59   get that moment where suddenly and he is [TS]

00:09:01   getting ready to go to college and he's [TS]

00:09:03   cleaning up his room we get the whole [TS]

00:09:04   there's a that they make the transition [TS]

00:09:07   they play you got a friend in me and [TS]

00:09:10   then we'll get to the line and as the [TS]

00:09:12   years go by [TS]

00:09:13   that's when the transition happens our [TS]

00:09:15   friendship will never die is the last [TS]

00:09:17   thing we hear and the song cuts off and [TS]

00:09:19   that line echoes on the screen goes [TS]

00:09:22   black and that's what you're in for [TS]

00:09:25   folks and we have like a big there's a [TS]

00:09:28   big montage of him growing up that Lone [TS]

00:09:30   Ranger Andy through the years montage [TS]

00:09:32   yeah it which is pretty great i mean i [TS]

00:09:34   love that he's first of all the nicest [TS]

00:09:36   kid ever because he left his sister come [TS]

00:09:38   in and he's like oh don't worry she just [TS]

00:09:40   totally destroyed all my stumble [TS]

00:09:41   integrate her into the story like one [TS]

00:09:43   kid does that it was amazing because [TS]

00:09:45   Andy's the best kid ever and i thought [TS]

00:09:48   it was super cute he's measuring all his [TS]

00:09:49   toys on the door and actually my brother [TS]

00:09:52   did that so that's not too far-fetched [TS]

00:09:53   you totally measured his toys and yeah [TS]

00:09:57   they show like all these little cute [TS]

00:09:58   sequences they're eating popcorn [TS]

00:09:59   together you know all the love is there [TS]

00:10:02   I love that popcorn bit where the piece [TS]

00:10:03   of popcorn gets put in Rex's mouth while [TS]

00:10:05   they're watching what is presumably a [TS]

00:10:07   monster movie [TS]

00:10:07   oh yeah describe the scary part the [TS]

00:10:09   popcorn falls out right and of course [TS]

00:10:12   that's just physics to people who don't [TS]

00:10:14   understand that the toys are alive but [TS]

00:10:16   we understand that Rex just coughed up a [TS]

00:10:18   chunk of popcorn i also like that in the [TS]

00:10:21   years as the years go by andys Andy's [TS]

00:10:25   model has finally become less terrifying [TS]

00:10:27   and off-putting anymore just looks like [TS]

00:10:31   an apple kid [TS]

00:10:32   yeah the show all the humans not from [TS]

00:10:34   like a muppet babies angle anymore [TS]

00:10:36   because I like you know what we can do [TS]

00:10:37   faces and they won't scare you hear that [TS]

00:10:39   we couldn't do that much for the mom [TS]

00:10:40   more than you couldn't do much for the [TS]

00:10:42   mom because the mom is is the embodiment [TS]

00:10:44   of evil and so he has to look that as we [TS]

00:10:46   discussed you I think I think she's [TS]

00:10:48   definitely a monster and in this one I [TS]

00:10:50   think she gets kind of past I think that [TS]

00:10:52   the you know shame shame shame on pixar [TS]

00:10:54   shame only uncle [TS]

00:10:54   she actually the modest repast she [TS]

00:10:57   creates the the terrible she takes the [TS]

00:10:59   bag of toys that's destined for the [TS]

00:11:00   attic and a lot of guys a lot of garbage [TS]

00:11:01   have been playing and she is a throw [TS]

00:11:04   them in the garbage if you need to get [TS]

00:11:06   rid of a body you would want some [TS]

00:11:07   garbage bags i'm just saying let's talk [TS]

00:11:09   about that whole premise for a serious [TS]

00:11:10   dad where's dad Steve to have a sense of [TS]

00:11:12   where data is andy's I I know where dad [TS]

00:11:14   is he's under the old house [TS]

00:11:15   oh yeah in the crawlspace dunno he's [TS]

00:11:17   going to John Wayne Gacy seller and he's [TS]

00:11:19   on his way to college right he's getting [TS]

00:11:21   ready to go to college [TS]

00:11:22   his mom is making him put his whole room [TS]

00:11:24   on mothballs right here either gotta [TS]

00:11:26   throw everything in his room out or he's [TS]

00:11:28   gotta stick it in the Attic she cannot [TS]

00:11:29   wait to get rid of that kid just like [TS]

00:11:31   she got rid of dad doesn't matter her if [TS]

00:11:35   he needs to come back into his laundry [TS]

00:11:37   or college doesn't go so good or he has [TS]

00:11:39   nowhere to stay on his break see I just [TS]

00:11:41   thought she wanted a crafting room man [TS]

00:11:43   what're your God is getting the room [TS]

00:11:45   right as his sister's getting the room [TS]

00:11:47   because she wants on his still got a [TS]

00:11:48   room but then then mom will have the [TS]

00:11:50   sisters room as a crafting right but you [TS]

00:11:53   like the crafting room like as soon as [TS]

00:11:55   the kid moves out you wait until he's [TS]

00:11:56   gone through college and got himself [TS]

00:11:58   settled maybe that's what your parents [TS]

00:11:59   that she's pushing what did anybody here [TS]

00:12:02   have an evil mannequin mom like that [TS]

00:12:04   like Andy's mom that forced that just [TS]

00:12:06   decimated their room a taurus under as [TS]

00:12:10   you were leaving to go to go to college [TS]

00:12:11   which was already a touchy time know in [TS]

00:12:13   my experience it it's a few years later [TS]

00:12:16   when your parents call you and say you [TS]

00:12:18   know that a lot of boxes here and we [TS]

00:12:21   don't want them here anymore [TS]

00:12:22   what are you gonna do about it but it [TS]

00:12:24   takes awhile they don't do it right when [TS]

00:12:25   you're leaving for school because they [TS]

00:12:26   want to induce you to come back and [TS]

00:12:28   visit at that point they can't get over [TS]

00:12:29   there not ready to let you go [TS]

00:12:31   oh god you're right Steve she is a [TS]

00:12:33   monster no I don't want to be on her [TS]

00:12:36   side [TS]

00:12:37   so she's terrible i and yeah and and and [TS]

00:12:40   then there's the scene a little bit [TS]

00:12:41   later where she comes upon the toys [TS]

00:12:43   waiting right at the base of the attic [TS]

00:12:45   stairs [TS]

00:12:45   naturally you you've given the kid the [TS]

00:12:48   option between the stairs and the trash [TS]

00:12:50   the bag is at the bottom of the trapdoor [TS]

00:12:52   leading up to the stairs and resumption [TS]

00:12:54   is right to the trash [TS]

00:12:56   yeah well that's the weakness of this [TS]

00:12:58   spot [TS]

00:12:59   the setup of this movie and I was [TS]

00:13:00   watching i was like huh [TS]

00:13:02   you know I realize this entire movie is [TS]

00:13:04   one of those misunderstanding base plots [TS]

00:13:06   and misunderstanding based pots are not [TS]

00:13:08   the greatest thing where like to kick [TS]

00:13:10   things off you need a simple [TS]

00:13:12   misunderstanding that would be cleared [TS]

00:13:14   up luckily that's not really the heart [TS]

00:13:15   of the movie and you don't spend the [TS]

00:13:16   whole time going why are all these [TS]

00:13:18   people just talking the results [TS]

00:13:19   misunderstanding but it is kind of it's [TS]

00:13:22   a big no-no they spend so much time on [TS]

00:13:23   story and figure out how they have so [TS]

00:13:25   such strong bones here in terms of the [TS]

00:13:27   kids older one of the beginning about [TS]

00:13:28   the toys like its natural progression [TS]

00:13:30   from the first two movies and it still [TS]

00:13:32   has to be a misunderstanding based thing [TS]

00:13:34   where once again people think you know [TS]

00:13:36   already doesn't love it anymore but [TS]

00:13:38   actually he does always sending us away [TS]

00:13:39   but no you're on the attic oh we don't [TS]

00:13:41   believe what he but what he's telling [TS]

00:13:42   the truth but we've seen all those [TS]

00:13:44   things in the movies before [TS]

00:13:45   luckily it moves on from that pretty [TS]

00:13:47   quickly and gets into the whole prison [TS]

00:13:49   escape thing and then the end of the [TS]

00:13:50   movie but it's a small thing in the [TS]

00:13:52   grand scheme of things but yeah you like [TS]

00:13:53   as strong as their story team as they [TS]

00:13:55   could have come up with something a [TS]

00:13:56   little better right you just needed [TS]

00:13:57   something anything to get things going [TS]

00:13:59   but like I'm but at this point I'm kind [TS]

00:14:01   of I don't like seeing people not [TS]

00:14:04   believe would be anymore because every [TS]

00:14:06   movie has everything himself like listen [TS]

00:14:10   to woody my kind of right now baby was [TS]

00:14:12   gonna put you in the Attic don't believe [TS]

00:14:13   what he never tells the truth now when [TS]

00:14:15   the very first thing he does say we're [TS]

00:14:17   nobody's getting thrown away and they [TS]

00:14:19   you know i'm not sure he really should [TS]

00:14:21   be that confident about it and I think [TS]

00:14:22   he even sort of says really what am I [TS]

00:14:24   supposed to say about it like he's [TS]

00:14:26   trying to give him a pep talk [TS]

00:14:27   so you know i'm not sure you can a [TS]

00:14:28   hundred percent trustworthy but he's got [TS]

00:14:30   their best interests at heart [TS]

00:14:32   yeah but bus knows the score I mean he [TS]

00:14:34   told he tells buzz he doesn't nourish [TS]

00:14:36   right there co-parenting I mean they've [TS]

00:14:38   all been there he knows there's no [TS]

00:14:39   guarantee and yet buzz right along with [TS]

00:14:41   the rest of them decides now let's hop [TS]

00:14:43   in the Box on the way to the daycare we [TS]

00:14:44   don't we don't buy this whole thing is [TS]

00:14:46   going to put in the Attic that was the [TS]

00:14:47   first move in the movie that sort of hit [TS]

00:14:49   one of those little tumblers and in the [TS]

00:14:52   safe in my head because when i was [TS]

00:14:55   little i did have a small bag of toys [TS]

00:14:58   that my grandfather accidentally thrown [TS]

00:14:59   out with the trash because he thought it [TS]

00:15:01   was trash so it's sort of like this ring [TS]

00:15:03   is completely true to me [TS]

00:15:05   yeah I like awesome toys that my parents [TS]

00:15:06   tossed that that you know I don't know [TS]

00:15:09   why it happened but they were not nice [TS]

00:15:11   to be Austin they just were cleaning [TS]

00:15:12   up something and I was messianic Lee and [TS]

00:15:14   they got I i would say i think the story [TS]

00:15:16   team made a decision which is they [TS]

00:15:18   didn't want to paint & E as a kid [TS]

00:15:20   because we know these toys and we love [TS]

00:15:22   them they can't have Andy do what he [TS]

00:15:24   probably would have done which is say [TS]

00:15:26   maybe not throw them out but say let's [TS]

00:15:28   just give these away send these to the [TS]

00:15:30   sentence to the preschool or wherever [TS]

00:15:32   because i don't want these i'm only [TS]

00:15:33   going to keep my tues toys that I that I [TS]

00:15:35   love buzz and woody and they didn't want [TS]

00:15:37   him to do that they didn't want him to [TS]

00:15:38   to be the the kid who would who would [TS]

00:15:41   get rid of those toys so they had to [TS]

00:15:44   make this misunderstanding [TS]

00:15:45   instead I'm oh I was I was gonna say [TS]

00:15:47   when they're talking about getting [TS]

00:15:49   thrown away I like that there's a moment [TS]

00:15:50   in there that is a nod to the [TS]

00:15:52   sensitivity about what happened to Jesse [TS]

00:15:54   that i read in there which like we all [TS]

00:15:56   know that Jesse's already gone through [TS]

00:15:57   this and had like a little moment of [TS]

00:15:59   like we know [TS]

00:16:00   yes it well and they did they like [TS]

00:16:03   checked in with her do you like you okay [TS]

00:16:04   you okay the Attic it'll be okay little [TS]

00:16:06   sensitivity for Jesse that choice that [TS]

00:16:09   Andy make something he does eventually [TS]

00:16:10   make it but he has to get to it and if [TS]

00:16:13   he if that were the trace at the [TS]

00:16:15   beginning of the movie where is the [TS]

00:16:16   ending where's that right shift for him [TS]

00:16:19   so I i get it i have to think that this [TS]

00:16:21   that this story is in part a product of [TS]

00:16:24   the people who made toy story talking [TS]

00:16:27   about the ramifications of the world [TS]

00:16:30   they built over a decade because write a [TS]

00:16:32   lot of this really is like okay we said [TS]

00:16:35   that the point of being a toy is to be [TS]

00:16:36   played with like what happens when he [TS]

00:16:38   grows up to those toys are they do they [TS]

00:16:40   just go to the incinerator happy in the [TS]

00:16:42   knowledge that they lived a good life [TS]

00:16:43   playing with a kid and now they're done [TS]

00:16:44   do they get handed off to another kid [TS]

00:16:46   and what happens if they could put in [TS]

00:16:47   the Attic because we already explained [TS]

00:16:49   with the old prospector that not being [TS]

00:16:50   played with is this terrible thing and [TS]

00:16:52   so you know trying to work through all [TS]

00:16:54   of that and when they discuss the Attic [TS]

00:16:55   they sort of say well it'll be warm up [TS]

00:16:57   there and there's Christmas ornaments up [TS]

00:16:59   if you can hear me great right when it's [TS]

00:17:01   alive by the way but they're gonna watch [TS]

00:17:04   from the reason is box i think that's [TS]

00:17:06   the implication is that they are and [TS]

00:17:08   they're not particularly liked by the [TS]

00:17:10   toys there darling another place from [TS]

00:17:12   there tree there troglodytes up in the [TS]

00:17:14   attic [TS]

00:17:14   yeah there's that old TV up there so [TS]

00:17:16   they can watch some TV and I think [TS]

00:17:17   that's really interesting because [TS]

00:17:18   they're trying to say like well it's not [TS]

00:17:20   like they're going to be sentenced to do [TS]

00:17:22   me they're gonna just be waiting and [TS]

00:17:24   they say like but and [TS]

00:17:25   maybe Andy will keep us and then he will [TS]

00:17:27   come back home and play with us or maybe [TS]

00:17:29   his kids will play with us and that's [TS]

00:17:31   their kind of like long-term hope I'm [TS]

00:17:33   not sure that's realistic but I didn't [TS]

00:17:35   really get the sense like this seems to [TS]

00:17:36   be a story written by people who really [TS]

00:17:38   had time to kind of throw around ideas [TS]

00:17:40   about what it means that they wrote [TS]

00:17:42   those other movies and where does the [TS]

00:17:44   story lead from there and I in this [TS]

00:17:45   whole part III was I was thinking about [TS]

00:17:48   that [TS]

00:17:48   let me take a break to tell you about [TS]

00:17:50   one of our sponsors this episode is [TS]

00:17:52   brought to you by falling water there's [TS]

00:17:56   a battle going on to control dreams [TS]

00:17:59   it's happening while you sleep one of [TS]

00:18:01   our dreams had the power to affect our [TS]

00:18:03   waking lives [TS]

00:18:04   what if a person could walk out of their [TS]

00:18:05   dream and into yours if you ever had the [TS]

00:18:08   same dreams of someone else maybe they [TS]

00:18:10   were dreaming it to falling waters a [TS]

00:18:12   thrilling adventure it takes viewers [TS]

00:18:13   into a battle for your dreams it's from [TS]

00:18:15   the producers of The Walking Dead and [TS]

00:18:16   homeland it is an original drama on USA [TS]

00:18:18   Network premiering Thursday octobre 13 [TS]

00:18:21   at ten o'clock nine central only on USA [TS]

00:18:25   it stars david ayala from the dark [TS]

00:18:28   knight and fast & furious 6 william lee [TS]

00:18:29   from hawaii five-o true blood and spy [TS]

00:18:32   and Lizzie Bashar from the strain [TS]

00:18:33   american horror story asylum so USA [TS]

00:18:37   Network octobre 13 ten o'clock [TS]

00:18:40   fallingwater check it out the other [TS]

00:18:43   thing I want to ask all of you is what [TS]

00:18:45   do you think Andy's rooms toys [TS]

00:18:47   relationship with the toys in the [TS]

00:18:48   sisters room are because presumably the [TS]

00:18:51   sister toys are alive and Barbie crosses [TS]

00:18:54   over right but presumably there's a [TS]

00:18:56   whole other toy story world happening [TS]

00:18:58   over there and are they like the US and [TS]

00:19:00   canada or something where they have some [TS]

00:19:03   limited interaction or what is because [TS]

00:19:05   there's a war we played all together [TS]

00:19:06   because when they had that staff meeting [TS]

00:19:08   it was it was pretty like you know like [TS]

00:19:09   that many people left for the staff [TS]

00:19:12   meeting [TS]

00:19:12   yeah so have we just numbers don't have [TS]

00:19:14   much problem going from room to room as [TS]

00:19:16   long as the price is empty so I suspect [TS]

00:19:17   when things are empty they just cruise [TS]

00:19:19   over and mingle [TS]

00:19:20   I was a little surprised that we didn't [TS]

00:19:21   get a moment where like the sisters toys [TS]

00:19:24   were there and I i guess because it's [TS]

00:19:26   you have to build all the models it [TS]

00:19:28   would be kind of unrealistic to put that [TS]

00:19:29   investment and have them just sort of [TS]

00:19:30   like wave and say okay we gotta go back [TS]

00:19:32   over to our side but I did feel Bridal [TS]

00:19:34   team across the lake [TS]

00:19:35   yeah because i kind of want i kinda [TS]

00:19:37   wanted some of that [TS]

00:19:38   and and I think barbie is what we got [TS]

00:19:40   which is fine i'm usually the guy that [TS]

00:19:42   likes to pick apart whether the cat [TS]

00:19:43   stalking or not but I I given given up [TS]

00:19:45   the casts in this one because i think [TS]

00:19:47   the I mean I we have to get to this [TS]

00:19:50   later but let's just say we talked about [TS]

00:19:51   in toy story 2 you know the thing with [TS]

00:19:53   jesse is I think hmm it's probably [TS]

00:19:57   happened earlier but I feel like the [TS]

00:19:58   flashback with Jesse in toy story 2 [TS]

00:20:01   feels like one of the first really overt [TS]

00:20:03   assertions that these toys are proxies [TS]

00:20:07   for the parents and I think that really [TS]

00:20:09   I'm haha this is the really obviously [TS]

00:20:12   really stupid but they clearly that's [TS]

00:20:14   what we're looking at in this so I gave [TS]

00:20:16   him a pass on all the how did the [TS]

00:20:17   fantasy world work more in the sense of [TS]

00:20:19   like well what do we do now that we've [TS]

00:20:23   fulfilled our whatever our prime [TS]

00:20:24   directive as being Andy's toys [TS]

00:20:26   well what happens now and so you're [TS]

00:20:28   seeing those last scraps this is our [TS]

00:20:30   last-ditch effort to make this happen [TS]

00:20:31   we're gonna try this stuff with with the [TS]

00:20:32   phone and you know is played out [TS]

00:20:34   especially well i think by somebody like [TS]

00:20:35   racks is like you know works we're just [TS]

00:20:37   not getting we haven't played with in [TS]

00:20:38   years and it really looks like we're [TS]

00:20:40   just not gonna get played with again and [TS]

00:20:42   that's not such a far leap to how you [TS]

00:20:44   feel when you're your kids are [TS]

00:20:45   increasingly growing up and you're [TS]

00:20:46   saying well we're going off to college [TS]

00:20:47   like in your having all these scraps [TS]

00:20:49   Michael maybe they'll come home every [TS]

00:20:51   Thanksgiving so that I I feel like [TS]

00:20:53   that's that still is very affecting to [TS]

00:20:55   me to touch on on the point of this [TS]

00:20:57   being a kind of a kind arising from [TS]

00:21:00   discussions among the story team about [TS]

00:21:02   how things you know might continue on [TS]

00:21:04   with the logical conclusion of the toys [TS]

00:21:06   is a lot of trepidation I had when I [TS]

00:21:09   heard they were making a toy story three [TS]

00:21:11   was I felt like toy story 2 kind of left [TS]

00:21:14   off in a good place like a buzz and [TS]

00:21:17   woody were resigned to the fact that it [TS]

00:21:19   wouldn't last forever but it was going [TS]

00:21:21   to be cool while it lasted [TS]

00:21:22   we didn't necessarily need to know you [TS]

00:21:25   know that the sad truth of how they were [TS]

00:21:27   going to end up which is probably in a [TS]

00:21:28   dumpster somewhere unloved and meshing [TS]

00:21:31   with rotten banana peels [TS]

00:21:33   so my concern was you know i kinda like [TS]

00:21:37   where that is and it worries me that [TS]

00:21:39   there they feel like they have to [TS]

00:21:41   continue with that and and I can't [TS]

00:21:44   couldn't imagine a way that they could [TS]

00:21:45   come up with a story that [TS]

00:21:48   that would be satisfying in that respect [TS]

00:21:50   and much to my surprise they did I mean [TS]

00:21:53   this is a very well done way to sort of [TS]

00:21:56   finish off the saga and I think that's [TS]

00:21:59   probably one of the four me one of the [TS]

00:22:01   biggest strength of this movie is that [TS]

00:22:02   they managed to pull it off at all [TS]

00:22:04   it's kind of an adventure sandwich [TS]

00:22:05   because the first and third acts are are [TS]

00:22:07   very emotional and have a lot of you [TS]

00:22:09   know emotional story stuff but it's it's [TS]

00:22:11   it's the great escape or what you know [TS]

00:22:13   it's any of several classic movies in [TS]

00:22:15   the middle and right and more and more [TS]

00:22:16   appreciate how good in the same way that [TS]

00:22:18   I think the incredibles is unimpeachable [TS]

00:22:19   one of the great action movies i think [TS]

00:22:21   this was I think this has some pretty [TS]

00:22:22   terrific action great pacing throughout [TS]

00:22:25   the Middle where you almost forget about [TS]

00:22:27   the whole not forget about but now we're [TS]

00:22:29   worried about the plight of these toys [TS]

00:22:30   with the with the kids who you know [TS]

00:22:32   stick stick potato parts in their nose [TS]

00:22:34   and stuff like that it's almost like a [TS]

00:22:36   great heights movie they just they only [TS]

00:22:38   have synchronize watches and that's what [TS]

00:22:39   makes it awesome [TS]

00:22:40   now they do a little heist with the you [TS]

00:22:42   know why the frog and all that but here [TS]

00:22:44   you get into a half highest half prison [TS]

00:22:45   for prison escape movie but that's you [TS]

00:22:48   know that's what it is it's pretty great [TS]

00:22:50   i almost feel like as as well done of a [TS]

00:22:52   no Mirage to prison break movies is that [TS]

00:22:53   is that almost for me is like the [TS]

00:22:55   weakest part of the movie because it's [TS]

00:22:56   so much fun oh Maj and I've seen these [TS]

00:22:59   same story people come up with so many [TS]

00:23:01   original ideas that to see them [TS]

00:23:03   basically just take the familiar [TS]

00:23:05   characters and drop them into somebody [TS]

00:23:07   else's scenario is a little [TS]

00:23:09   disappointing but it's so well done i [TS]

00:23:11   mean i can't complain too much about it [TS]

00:23:12   like Shawshank with toys right like I [TS]

00:23:14   think it because it is such a [TS]

00:23:16   transformation because it's not just [TS]

00:23:17   like hey I'm going to make a heist movie [TS]

00:23:19   and it's gonna be a mosh all my favorite [TS]

00:23:21   heist movies like that but it's still [TS]

00:23:23   gonna you know be realistic human world [TS]

00:23:25   type thing this is so far off so [TS]

00:23:27   transformative you know in the sort of [TS]

00:23:29   like fair use sense or whatever that at [TS]

00:23:32   it adds this level of absurdity that I [TS]

00:23:34   give them a pass for every single much [TS]

00:23:36   every single shot every single you know [TS]

00:23:38   Fellini thing that they throw in there [TS]

00:23:40   and top of all the heist movie stuff [TS]

00:23:42   like because it is just it's just so [TS]

00:23:44   absurd because it's a bunch of toys and [TS]

00:23:45   they're in a daycare and it's not a [TS]

00:23:46   prison and it's like you know I'm with [TS]

00:23:49   marijuana setting that middle section it [TS]

00:23:51   would read as kind of like yeah we get [TS]

00:23:53   it you've seen a lot of it [TS]

00:23:54   oh hi standard prison escape movies [TS]

00:23:56   alright that's fine but having toys act [TS]

00:23:59   all out and having just everything about [TS]

00:24:01   it be twisted around like you know 720 [TS]

00:24:04   degrees and it totally works for me that [TS]

00:24:07   you know I just like every every single [TS]

00:24:09   scene that you're not just appreciate [TS]

00:24:11   what a clever all modules you're also [TS]

00:24:12   appreciating how ridiculous it is that [TS]

00:24:15   you know it's it's there in a daycare [TS]

00:24:17   and they're all toys and the kids are [TS]

00:24:19   monsters and by like it since i'm gonna [TS]

00:24:22   see this movie not as many times and [TS]

00:24:23   stuff but a lot now I just spend time [TS]

00:24:25   looking at the background in the daycare [TS]

00:24:27   and like having had two kids go through [TS]

00:24:29   daycare you look at it you're like wow [TS]

00:24:30   like they spent some time in daycare sex [TS]

00:24:33   is a research trip for this instead of [TS]

00:24:34   you know going into the ocean or [TS]

00:24:36   shooting bows and arrows they just spent [TS]

00:24:38   a lot of time in daycares it it's [TS]

00:24:40   amazing and to have that be the backdrop [TS]

00:24:42   for this middle section i agree that it [TS]

00:24:44   kind of feels like three pieces like the [TS]

00:24:46   beginning and then this prison break in [TS]

00:24:47   the middle but just all I love all three [TS]

00:24:49   pieces so i can I can't get mad at this [TS]

00:24:51   movie ever like it just amazes me how [TS]

00:24:53   well constructed is the moruach it the [TS]

00:24:55   more I'm like god damn be made made [TS]

00:24:57   three good movies [TS]

00:24:58   I mean I i was sitting there the first [TS]

00:25:00   time the the day I saw the twice and and [TS]

00:25:03   thinking okay why is this in three [TS]

00:25:05   pieces and and there i mean there is a [TS]

00:25:07   very clear break between the sections [TS]

00:25:10   they're very 33 very clear act and then [TS]

00:25:13   the second time that night it hit me and [TS]

00:25:16   and I've watched it I don't know dozens [TS]

00:25:19   of times since then and it still works [TS]

00:25:22   for me it's also it's not just a heist [TS]

00:25:25   movie it's the divine comedy [TS]

00:25:26   oh yeah right i've heard the Aerie yeah [TS]

00:25:29   forget library and there's a certain [TS]

00:25:31   purgatory and you know limbo they're not [TS]

00:25:34   being played with purgatory box [TS]

00:25:35   purgatory box below and that early early [TS]

00:25:37   part in the the daycare center is you [TS]

00:25:41   know it's a little bit since the [TS]

00:25:42   beginnings of the rings of hell and then [TS]

00:25:44   of course we have a literal inferno and [TS]

00:25:47   eventually they wind up in Paradise [TS]

00:25:50   which is a new a new place to play a new [TS]

00:25:52   place [TS]

00:25:53   I mean I want to get ahead and well and [TS]

00:25:55   we'll get there momentarily the talk [TS]

00:25:58   about the absurdity of it I what I would [TS]

00:25:59   just say is the the brutal king of the [TS]

00:26:02   prison yard is a strawberry scented [TS]

00:26:03   teddy bear [TS]

00:26:05   and the person that you have to get past [TS]

00:26:07   in order to do your plan is a monkey [TS]

00:26:12   with the little symbols that's those are [TS]

00:26:14   the magnetic in virgil that's the [TS]

00:26:16   absurdity of yeah it is beautiful yeah [TS]

00:26:18   exactly so before we get there I wanted [TS]

00:26:20   to mention the garbage truck there is a [TS]

00:26:21   guy with the with the likes its shirt [TS]

00:26:25   loading the truck is said the driver of [TS]

00:26:27   the truck that's totally said alright [TS]

00:26:28   that's it really [TS]

00:26:29   and he's not the driver he's collecting [TS]

00:26:31   use without in the back I guess it's [TS]

00:26:33   like a Punisher shirt on [TS]

00:26:35   no it's totally said he's the exact [TS]

00:26:36   right age he's the same age as andy and [TS]

00:26:39   he's like that he's like the intern you [TS]

00:26:40   know it but they moved a long ways away [TS]

00:26:42   from wheres it was that said follow Andy [TS]

00:26:45   for some reason it's hard to find good [TS]

00:26:46   work in the tri-county area he just [TS]

00:26:48   happens to be the garden there just in [TS]

00:26:49   the same town should have new versions [TS]

00:26:51   of his old shirt that he had 11 years [TS]

00:26:53   ago [TS]

00:26:54   well yeah did Danny just move across [TS]

00:26:56   town that's no happy child because that [TS]

00:26:59   kind of ruins the whole idea that the [TS]

00:27:01   toys would never be able to find Andy [TS]

00:27:02   again after they moved well they were [TS]

00:27:04   panicking so given that it's one line of [TS]

00:27:07   dialogue you'll be fine at the very [TS]

00:27:08   least it's certainly an odd to sit that [TS]

00:27:10   he's wearing since shirt and it would be [TS]

00:27:12   a job thats it could do being the [TS]

00:27:14   garbage man it could be said they could [TS]

00:27:16   totally see better things for Sid [TS]

00:27:18   frankly but not that there's anything [TS]

00:27:20   wrong with the garbage he's happy he's [TS]

00:27:22   driving on sometime like it if its most [TS]

00:27:25   to be said that the decency to make him [TS]

00:27:27   how you know yesterday happy in his work [TS]

00:27:29   is not just like miserable like oh I was [TS]

00:27:31   mean and now my life is terribly seems [TS]

00:27:32   to be having a good time i'm sure the [TS]

00:27:34   people and found it he found a good spot [TS]

00:27:36   for himself you know what I mean he [TS]

00:27:37   found his knee [TS]

00:27:38   well he's crushing thing i'm sure the [TS]

00:27:40   Pizza Planet delivery truck driver is [TS]

00:27:42   the garbage-truck driver to they're just [TS]

00:27:44   working together now they're there [TS]

00:27:45   they're the best garbage repeat the [TS]

00:27:47   planet truck that they're riding on the [TS]

00:27:48   writing on the yeah they are flashback [TS]

00:27:50   yeah okay we just talked about how Andy [TS]

00:27:54   knows Jesse and bull's-eyes name [TS]

00:27:58   no it's the with the administrator he [TS]

00:28:01   looked him up on ebay like whoa wait a [TS]

00:28:03   minute these guys are really part of the [TS]

00:28:05   whole woody gang I'm sure looked up at [TS]

00:28:08   some point figured that yeah yeah one [TS]

00:28:09   line and I'll see Steve what see the [TS]

00:28:11   what it is is among the dead father's [TS]

00:28:14   personal effects since we have already [TS]

00:28:16   is a whole [TS]

00:28:17   look about the history of Woody's [TS]

00:28:19   roundup and so so he knows it from now [TS]

00:28:21   his hat is totally Jesse's hat not what [TS]

00:28:24   his hat and his hat [TS]

00:28:26   I'm talking about right yeah huh Andy is [TS]

00:28:29   the cowboy hat is jesse's hat not [TS]

00:28:32   Woody's hat that's true [TS]

00:28:33   yep yeah it's all the things the plastic [TS]

00:28:36   what's going on [TS]

00:28:37   following this house udo's to moms are [TS]

00:28:39   not put it throwing gender conventions [TS]

00:28:41   on the kid that that's one good thing [TS]

00:28:43   she's done this episode of the [TS]

00:28:45   incomparable is brought to you in part [TS]

00:28:46   by Casper sleep brand that created one [TS]

00:28:49   perfect mattress sold directly to [TS]

00:28:50   consumers eliminating Commission driven [TS]

00:28:53   inflated prices its award-winning sleep [TS]

00:28:55   surface was developed in house has a [TS]

00:28:57   sleek design and is delivered in a a box [TS]

00:29:00   so small you wonder how did they get a [TS]

00:29:01   whole mattress in there and then you [TS]

00:29:02   open it up and push out comes the [TS]

00:29:04   mattress in addition to that mattress [TS]

00:29:06   Casper also has an adaptive pillow and [TS]

00:29:08   soft breathable sheets I have them all [TS]

00:29:10   and i really like them all [TS]

00:29:12   okay in terms of quality Casper's [TS]

00:29:14   in-house team of engineers have spent [TS]

00:29:15   thousands of hours developing it it's [TS]

00:29:17   got spring latex and support of memory [TS]

00:29:18   foams and together they all work to make [TS]

00:29:21   a sleep service that's got just the [TS]

00:29:22   right saying just the right balance and [TS]

00:29:24   a breathable design that sleep school to [TS]

00:29:26   help you regulate your temperature [TS]

00:29:27   throughout the night mattresses often [TS]

00:29:30   cost well over fifteen hundred dollars [TS]

00:29:31   but casper mattresses cost 500 for a [TS]

00:29:34   twin all the way up to 9 50 for a king [TS]

00:29:35   and here's the best part you know when [TS]

00:29:37   you buy a mattress you never really know [TS]

00:29:39   how you're going to sleep on it and [TS]

00:29:40   laying on a mattress in a showroom for [TS]

00:29:41   5-10 minutes is not going to do the [TS]

00:29:43   trick [TS]

00:29:43   Casper is an internet mattress so it's [TS]

00:29:45   even scary you can't even look at it [TS]

00:29:47   before you get it except for this it's [TS]

00:29:49   completely risk-free free delivery free [TS]

00:29:51   returns and a hundred knight home trial [TS]

00:29:53   sleep on it for a month or two or three [TS]

00:29:56   and if you don't truly love it they will [TS]

00:29:57   pick it up take it away and refund you [TS]

00:30:00   everything Casper understands the [TS]

00:30:01   importance of truly sleeping on a [TS]

00:30:03   mattress before you commit especially [TS]

00:30:05   considering you will spend a third of [TS]

00:30:06   your life sleeping on it so time [TS]

00:30:09   magazine named it one of the best [TS]

00:30:10   inventions 2015 free shipping and [TS]

00:30:12   returns the US and canada hundred knight [TS]

00:30:14   risk-free trial create sleep surface and [TS]

00:30:16   fifty dollars toward any mattress [TS]

00:30:18   purchase by visiting Casper calm / smell [TS]

00:30:20   and using offer code smell [TS]

00:30:23   terms and conditions apply that's Casper [TS]

00:30:25   calm / smell and use offer code smell [TS]

00:30:29   let's go to the daycare [TS]

00:30:30   we made a very nice bear voice by Ned [TS]

00:30:33   baby names Lotso Lotso hugging bear he's [TS]

00:30:36   p smells like strawberries and he's very [TS]

00:30:38   nice with some southern charm the door [TS]

00:30:40   has a rainbow on she just threw me away [TS]

00:30:43   you got to be wary of Ned Beatty yeah [TS]

00:30:45   just I'm just saying I note that i wrote [TS]

00:30:47   down about this scene where we meet all [TS]

00:30:49   the different toys is when Ken meets [TS]

00:30:51   Barbie so we see there's a can play by [TS]

00:30:53   Michael Keaton he meets Barbie and we [TS]

00:30:55   get dreamweaver which i'm not sure but [TS]

00:30:58   may actually just be of wings world [TS]

00:31:00   reference not even going all the way [TS]

00:31:02   back and it ends with a record scratch [TS]

00:31:05   sound that no one watching the movie [TS]

00:31:07   even in 2010 who is under the age of 30 [TS]

00:31:11   would have ever heard me use a different [TS]

00:31:13   song in a trailer didn't say I was [TS]

00:31:15   trying to remember what it was but I [TS]

00:31:15   remember I like the song and a trailer [TS]

00:31:17   better than the one they used in the [TS]

00:31:19   movie and I wondered why they change it [TS]

00:31:20   does anyone remember what's only use the [TS]

00:31:22   trailer for that for that shot like when [TS]

00:31:24   Ken and Barbie spots can and they look [TS]

00:31:26   into each others eyes that is a [TS]

00:31:27   different song in the commercial for and [TS]

00:31:29   I thought that was way better than [TS]

00:31:31   dreamweaver we'll find out when someone [TS]

00:31:33   the emails us and tells us [TS]

00:31:39   the problem is that every time I use a [TS]

00:31:41   song they scratch that record and they [TS]

00:31:42   can't use it again [TS]

00:31:44   that's what I had to have been watching [TS]

00:31:46   VHS tapes and like I remember when he [TS]

00:31:47   was little it's like why is the aspect [TS]

00:31:49   ratio change where all those lines on [TS]

00:31:50   the video [TS]

00:31:51   yeah the kids won't know what they'll [TS]

00:31:53   figure it out yes I like how they call [TS]

00:31:55   it Ken's dream house specifically yeah [TS]

00:31:57   we can stream house that's right so we [TS]

00:31:59   meet we meet these of a toys and this [TS]

00:32:01   like hey this is a great retirement for [TS]

00:32:03   these for these toys that we're gonna [TS]

00:32:05   get thrown out they think they were [TS]

00:32:06   gonna get thrown out is they get they [TS]

00:32:08   get to be played without a preschool [TS]

00:32:10   that we know that playing is the thing [TS]

00:32:12   that they're made to do and it struck me [TS]

00:32:15   at this point because wood is like no no [TS]

00:32:17   we've got to get back to Andy and they [TS]

00:32:18   again poopoo him and how much [TS]

00:32:20   credibility dude is what you need to [TS]

00:32:22   have with these people all this time the [TS]

00:32:25   thing that got me about it that struck [TS]

00:32:26   me watching it is it's about duty to [TS]

00:32:29   woody woody is about doing his duty and [TS]

00:32:32   and what would he considers the duty of [TS]

00:32:35   all of these toys is to be in the Attic [TS]

00:32:37   if that's where and he wants them to be [TS]

00:32:39   doesn't matter that they'd rather be [TS]

00:32:41   played with then be put in the Attic [TS]

00:32:43   it's like we're his toys [TS]

00:32:44   it's our job to go where he wants us to [TS]

00:32:46   go including in the Attic it just it [TS]

00:32:48   just struck me that like that's in what [TS]

00:32:50   his mind he's about self-sacrifice [TS]

00:32:53   basically and saying this is what we [TS]

00:32:55   need to do because he's our kid where [TS]

00:32:56   they're like we're out of there where we [TS]

00:32:58   you know we got a lifeline here to do [TS]

00:33:00   something different we're gonna we're [TS]

00:33:01   gonna dump him since we thought he was [TS]

00:33:03   gonna dump us and and and they don't [TS]

00:33:05   want anyone used to be a little bit [TS]

00:33:07   selfish that because remember what he [TS]

00:33:08   was going to college what he's not going [TS]

00:33:10   to me don't know you guys character [TS]

00:33:11   moment where we really were you you know [TS]

00:33:13   you you makes you like a candy bar [TS]

00:33:15   because you realize he's still going to [TS]

00:33:16   bring the one toy that he really loves [TS]

00:33:18   don't forget to college and I know a lot [TS]

00:33:19   of people who did that who brought like [TS]

00:33:21   they're one special stuff down whatever [TS]

00:33:22   just something from childhood that you [TS]

00:33:24   still bring with you to college and that [TS]

00:33:26   was going to be woody and that's kind of [TS]

00:33:28   a thread running through his entire [TS]

00:33:29   personality that he's always all about [TS]

00:33:30   the greater good and what the group [TS]

00:33:32   should do but also with the assumption [TS]

00:33:34   that he of course is the top of the [TS]

00:33:35   pyramid and makeup get special treatment [TS]

00:33:38   so he was going to college it's much [TS]

00:33:40   easier for him to explain every you guys [TS]

00:33:41   just hang on the Attic [TS]

00:33:43   I'll go to college that's totally built [TS]

00:33:45   into his personality despite the first [TS]

00:33:46   two movies it's still in there like it's [TS]

00:33:48   not like and now he's cured and will be [TS]

00:33:50   a better person like like real people [TS]

00:33:52   this is just part of his personality and [TS]

00:33:53   he has to struggle to manage it and in [TS]

00:33:56   this movie is the same so I feel like [TS]

00:33:57   when he's talking to them about you know [TS]

00:34:00   his sense of duty whatever sense of duty [TS]

00:34:02   is a lot for them less than for himself [TS]

00:34:04   because he was going to be separate but [TS]

00:34:06   he's willing to go along with them as [TS]

00:34:08   well that's in managing its saying okay [TS]

00:34:09   well i'm gonna make the speech to them i [TS]

00:34:11   have to be willing to do this as well [TS]

00:34:13   and not go with andy which eventually he [TS]

00:34:15   you know resigns himself now begin with [TS]

00:34:17   them but when he says that I think if I [TS]

00:34:20   was one of the toys again as you get so [TS]

00:34:21   twisted around this world because you [TS]

00:34:23   have to really accept the premise but I [TS]

00:34:25   thinking like is that really the best [TS]

00:34:27   thing woody is it the best-known [TS]

00:34:29   traumatic because you mentally it's just [TS]

00:34:30   a lunatic frankly especially considering [TS]

00:34:32   that Andy already believes they didn't [TS]

00:34:35   know that and he believes that they were [TS]

00:34:36   thrown out and at this point they think [TS]

00:34:39   that they reach paradise they're about [TS]

00:34:41   to find out that it's actually been put [TS]

00:34:43   in the most horrible place that they [TS]

00:34:44   could possibly be but they don't know [TS]

00:34:46   that for now yeah and it could end it [TS]

00:34:49   could be made better like it you know it [TS]

00:34:50   doesn't have to be bad but like some [TS]

00:34:52   what a jesse is the perfect example [TS]

00:34:54   because we keep forgetting Jesse had an [TS]

00:34:57   owner and the owner grew up and now [TS]

00:34:59   she's having a second life with a new [TS]

00:35:01   owner so it's not as if these toys don't [TS]

00:35:03   think you okay you hang out with your [TS]

00:35:04   kid you let him play with you and then [TS]

00:35:06   you just go into the attic and just wait [TS]

00:35:08   it out or whatever like that's possible [TS]

00:35:09   to have a second-round they mentioned [TS]

00:35:11   that was like oh maybe he'll give us to [TS]

00:35:12   his games like I don't understand why [TS]

00:35:14   the toy premises and ok your kid grows [TS]

00:35:16   up and then your next job is to find [TS]

00:35:18   another kid because it happened with [TS]

00:35:20   Jesse and you know what happened with [TS]

00:35:22   them as well I should be common [TS]

00:35:23   knowledge among the toys like when your [TS]

00:35:24   kid goes up grows up it's time for you [TS]

00:35:26   to try to find another kid [TS]

00:35:28   well the army men have it figured out [TS]

00:35:29   that who knows how long getting army men [TS]

00:35:31   have been around ya paratroopers only [TS]

00:35:33   one bucket of our winter and between [TS]

00:35:34   everybody as soon as the garbage bag [TS]

00:35:36   comes out where the first to go is also [TS]

00:35:39   like to be i mean the the maybe someone [TS]

00:35:41   admittedly corny theme of friendship [TS]

00:35:44   teamwork togetherness which become sort [TS]

00:35:46   of the overriding theme by the end [TS]

00:35:47   certainly by the closing credits i mean [TS]

00:35:49   in this case they're sort of rewarded [TS]

00:35:51   for how much they ended up working [TS]

00:35:52   together like they would not have been [TS]

00:35:54   able to achieve that break if they had [TS]

00:35:56   been exactly 13 and I i don't think that [TS]

00:35:58   they lean on that too hard i don't think [TS]

00:36:00   it's there's not like a song about [TS]

00:36:01   friendship or something until the end [TS]

00:36:02   but I like [TS]

00:36:04   about that and that there is like [TS]

00:36:05   they're you know this is not gonna be [TS]

00:36:06   it's on another level now it's about [TS]

00:36:09   aging which is that there's more to this [TS]

00:36:11   didn't like the easy relationships that [TS]

00:36:12   we get that we just take for granted for [TS]

00:36:14   the first 20 usually you know 10 15 20 [TS]

00:36:17   years of our life is also the kind of [TS]

00:36:18   relationships that you work on that [TS]

00:36:19   those the this can be very enduring [TS]

00:36:21   satisfying to and I had the work and [TS]

00:36:23   make the smart choice not to dwell on [TS]

00:36:24   all the things that you mentioned the [TS]

00:36:26   misunderstanding they're not believing [TS]

00:36:27   woody like they get past them in short [TS]

00:36:30   order because like so many movies just [TS]

00:36:31   getting some of the earlier tour [TS]

00:36:33   services such a major point it's like we [TS]

00:36:35   don't we don't want to see that going on [TS]

00:36:36   and on [TS]

00:36:37   if you display would be for a little bit [TS]

00:36:38   like will get past it quickly we have to [TS]

00:36:40   get on with the rest of the movie [TS]

00:36:41   because there are so many so many moving [TS]

00:36:43   parts here and so many themes so many [TS]

00:36:44   things that happen that they wisely [TS]

00:36:46   don't spend a lot of time like arguing [TS]

00:36:49   about whether it's better to go with the [TS]

00:36:51   enemy to college or in the attic or if [TS]

00:36:53   they should find another owner for you [TS]

00:36:54   believe what he liked everything gets [TS]

00:36:55   like two or three lines and the action [TS]

00:36:57   continues like the movie just moves so [TS]

00:37:00   the kids are let in to this preschool [TS]

00:37:02   classroom and it is revealed that these [TS]

00:37:06   kids are rambunctious and treat the tour [TS]

00:37:08   toys terribly in a montage that is like [TS]

00:37:12   I think I'm not sure this one's got the [TS]

00:37:15   horror movie music in it later there's [TS]

00:37:17   another montage of the kids playing that [TS]

00:37:19   is just it is literally scored like a [TS]

00:37:21   horror movie and this is more just like [TS]

00:37:24   frenzy [TS]

00:37:24   yeah exactly it's amazing now that the [TS]

00:37:27   toddlers are so wonderfully grotesque I [TS]

00:37:29   mean the yeah that the the shot [TS]

00:37:31   particularly of from inside of buzzes [TS]

00:37:34   space helmet as the mouth and the tongue [TS]

00:37:37   kind of press against it and you see [TS]

00:37:39   like the air before the tongue even hit [TS]

00:37:41   you kind of see it start to plug up with [TS]

00:37:43   the breathing it's great and all the [TS]

00:37:45   toys hide when the kids come in like all [TS]

00:37:47   the other toys that no other ones that [TS]

00:37:49   are wise is the only one that catches it [TS]

00:37:50   yeah he causes helmet i also get full [TS]

00:37:53   points to the lighting in that one for [TS]

00:37:55   some reason there's this one shot of [TS]

00:37:57   where the little kid grabs Jesse tips on [TS]

00:37:59   the green pain starts rubbing on the [TS]

00:38:01   canvas the lighting in that is exquisite [TS]

00:38:03   it really looks like that room one of [TS]

00:38:06   the downsides to really downsides one of [TS]

00:38:08   the weird things about a very well [TS]

00:38:09   animated very well rendered films you [TS]

00:38:11   kind of stopped noticing how good it is [TS]

00:38:12   you start noticing a little Nick's on [TS]

00:38:14   the toybox you stop noticing that the [TS]

00:38:16   including tiny little wrinkles and Andy [TS]

00:38:18   shirt this heat the seatbelt seatbelt in [TS]

00:38:20   the world is not noticing all these [TS]

00:38:21   things because the story is good and you [TS]

00:38:23   just enjoying the visuals but just go [TS]

00:38:25   watch any one minute of any of those [TS]

00:38:27   scenes at the daycare center and like [TS]

00:38:28   just like circuses said the the amount [TS]

00:38:30   of extraordinary unnecessary like [TS]

00:38:32   perfect detail and then just rendered [TS]

00:38:34   you don't mean about the lighting though [TS]

00:38:35   the way it looks in that scene it this [TS]

00:38:38   movie looks amazing it looks so much [TS]

00:38:40   better than even toy story 2 I mean I [TS]

00:38:41   got a grant is a long gap but like it [TS]

00:38:44   having three shots and essentially the [TS]

00:38:46   same characters that were already [TS]

00:38:47   basically the easiest characters they [TS]

00:38:49   could do because it's like hard plastic [TS]

00:38:50   and I mean they do them so well liked in [TS]

00:38:53   this movie I was struck by it as well I [TS]

00:38:55   feel like a toy story 3 you know that [TS]

00:38:57   looks about the same story to know now [TS]

00:38:58   doesn't like it just it is leaps and [TS]

00:39:00   bounds again above it makes me wonder is [TS]

00:39:02   there anywhere left to go for toy story [TS]

00:39:04   well maybe they can finally fix Buster [TS]

00:39:06   the dog is he still doesn't look all [TS]

00:39:07   that great yeah well things are tough [TS]

00:39:10   did you guys notice how in the escape [TS]

00:39:13   when Woody is leaving the before you [TS]

00:39:15   know before all the kids come in and we [TS]

00:39:17   see what he kind of making his little [TS]

00:39:18   escape route that he kinda moves [TS]

00:39:20   differently then he used to in the other [TS]

00:39:24   movies he's just seems a little bit more [TS]

00:39:25   flexible little bit more animated do to [TS]

00:39:29   anybody else because we can see jumpy [TS]

00:39:31   yeah we're going to the toilet paper he [TS]

00:39:33   like grabs it kind of like wild e coyote [TS]

00:39:35   ask about more Buster kidney [TS]

00:39:38   I got a big bold note on on the antics [TS]

00:39:40   of Woody's movement in this except that [TS]

00:39:42   they were extraordinary all the things [TS]

00:39:43   of him [TS]

00:39:44   I mean if there's the funny stuff in the [TS]

00:39:46   second one [TS]

00:39:49   like where he has to do a similar thing [TS]

00:39:50   of sliding down and go go effect the [TS]

00:39:52   rescue for weezy that his name but but [TS]

00:39:56   in this one I just thought i was so [TS]

00:39:58   delightful to totally like you say the [TS]

00:39:59   totally Bugs Bunny like running on the [TS]

00:40:01   toilet paper roll and the way he gets [TS]

00:40:02   all skinny behind something skinny i [TS]

00:40:04   thought that was just pure joy and and [TS]

00:40:07   so well-executed I mean if i'm not [TS]

00:40:09   mistaken they had to render everything [TS]

00:40:11   from scratch because they were using new [TS]

00:40:14   software and knew every thoroughly and [TS]

00:40:17   and that's part of why it's so much [TS]

00:40:19   improved it's not it's not working off [TS]

00:40:21   the original models and programming but [TS]

00:40:24   the animations there's are getting like [TS]

00:40:26   I've been noticing that but i canna [TS]

00:40:27   Woody's animated with more flair [TS]

00:40:29   let's put it that way like they that you [TS]

00:40:31   know that they learn they learned by [TS]

00:40:32   animating the characters for two movies [TS]

00:40:34   it's kind of like how what if you see [TS]

00:40:37   someone drugged newspaper comic strip [TS]

00:40:39   for people to remember those in the [TS]

00:40:40   newspaper you know and if you look at a [TS]

00:40:42   strip from the very first trip into like [TS]

00:40:45   that you know many many years later you [TS]

00:40:48   see how in the original strip the [TS]

00:40:50   characters have attributes and almost [TS]

00:40:52   inevitably several years and when the [TS]

00:40:54   strip becomes big whatever [TS]

00:40:56   characteristics like they pick something [TS]

00:40:58   like this characters nose is gonna be [TS]

00:41:00   big and yeah it's big in the first trip [TS]

00:41:01   by the end the characters basically and [TS]

00:41:03   nose with two eyeballs attached to write [TS]

00:41:04   that features become exaggerated look at [TS]

00:41:06   Garfield and Odie how they change over [TS]

00:41:08   their life and so just obviously we [TS]

00:41:10   can't change the models because the toys [TS]

00:41:12   are with the toys are but by the third [TS]

00:41:13   movie woody movie you know the first [TS]

00:41:16   movie he's kind of gangly and spastic [TS]

00:41:18   and a third movie it's like you know [TS]

00:41:19   Buster Keaton or whatever like it's [TS]

00:41:21   incredibly exaggerated that they that [TS]

00:41:24   it's almost like you need to get the [TS]

00:41:26   same high you need to get a bigger hit [TS]

00:41:27   or whatever they're just really homing [TS]

00:41:30   in on what is it that makes woody woody [TS]

00:41:32   and exaggerating it to good effect i [TS]

00:41:34   think because I i noticed that as well [TS]

00:41:35   and when I notice that it didn't think [TS]

00:41:37   like that doesn't look like what he is [TS]

00:41:38   thought that's the wittiest woody just [TS]

00:41:40   like that's a seatbelt the seatbelt [TS]

00:41:42   yeah i disagree i thought he was a [TS]

00:41:43   little bit too cartoony he didn't feel [TS]

00:41:46   more like a physical object that's [TS]

00:41:48   moving around like he did before I don't [TS]

00:41:50   know I thought some of the movements [TS]

00:41:51   were it went too far it was too much [TS]

00:41:53   yeah they come dangerously close in a [TS]

00:41:55   couple of places to actually almost [TS]

00:41:57   entering into Looney Tunes territory [TS]

00:41:59   like exactly yeah I didn't lie saying [TS]

00:42:00   where the kite like lifts them up off [TS]

00:42:02   the ground [TS]

00:42:03   you know several hundred feet in the air [TS]

00:42:05   in milliseconds and I think there's [TS]

00:42:07   actually almost some nearly loony-tune s [TS]

00:42:09   music that plays along with that [TS]

00:42:11   yeah the kind on the toilet paper but [TS]

00:42:13   that's what he liked his joints don't [TS]

00:42:15   have anything in he is a rag doll that [TS]

00:42:18   with pinch fabric joins you don't see [TS]

00:42:20   buzz acting spastic like that because [TS]

00:42:22   he's a stiff plastic space ranger right [TS]

00:42:24   i think it's in character it's not as if [TS]

00:42:26   they just took every character and that [TS]

00:42:27   is not generally though it's the physics [TS]

00:42:29   of the situation that are a little [TS]

00:42:30   screwy yeah well you know if you're [TS]

00:42:31   gonna you're gonna look at that I mean [TS]

00:42:32   since rocket in the first movie is [TS]

00:42:34   already off so well i'm not saying we [TS]

00:42:36   need to we need to adhere to you know [TS]

00:42:37   exactly the physical realm that [TS]

00:42:39   live in but ya didn't like the arched [TS]

00:42:41   back or like the really exaggerated face [TS]

00:42:44   that he do sometimes I don't know it's [TS]

00:42:45   just too much [TS]

00:42:46   the series has always had a certain [TS]

00:42:47   amount of grounding in reality and I [TS]

00:42:49   think they kind of push against the [TS]

00:42:50   boundaries of that and this once or [TS]

00:42:52   twice I don't know that they talked [TS]

00:42:53   about this is one of the few get the [TS]

00:42:55   itunes one it's got some you know extras [TS]

00:42:57   on there and there's one they talked [TS]

00:42:59   about exactly what David mentioned which [TS]

00:43:00   is that I guess I don't know maybe they [TS]

00:43:02   changed the file to Pixar X and you [TS]

00:43:04   couldn't open them in the app anymore [TS]

00:43:05   but thats a computer job was it was a [TS]

00:43:07   whole new hardware system to well yeah [TS]

00:43:10   they had to totally totally redo them [TS]

00:43:12   but also just for doing stuff like lots [TS]

00:43:13   of they brought in a person who [TS]

00:43:15   basically designed stuffed animals and [TS]

00:43:18   said like how would you cut up the [TS]

00:43:19   pattern for this they draw it on a piece [TS]

00:43:21   on like a clay rendering but also a lot [TS]

00:43:23   so they talked about how we know a lot [TS]

00:43:25   so as a bear would like way this much [TS]

00:43:26   but when he's walking around in the [TS]

00:43:28   story he needs to look big like he's got [TS]

00:43:31   this cut the cane and easy big fella and [TS]

00:43:34   you have some gravitas and these kinds [TS]

00:43:35   of wrinkles so I cannot pass on that I [TS]

00:43:38   can you see what you mean what he's a [TS]

00:43:39   little bit and techno know how do you [TS]

00:43:41   guys feel about the elbows dancing [TS]

00:43:44   because i loved it loved the dancing [TS]

00:43:45   loved the dancing I'm it's a sucker for [TS]

00:43:48   dancing and I think dancing is also [TS]

00:43:50   constrained by how the woody power the [TS]

00:43:52   buzz toy could move like it moves very [TS]

00:43:54   quickly between the different frames but [TS]

00:43:56   there's no pose that he's put in that [TS]

00:43:58   like it but he doesn't get all like [TS]

00:44:00   rubbery and bendy or anything he stay [TS]

00:44:01   stiff plastic the whole time he just [TS]

00:44:03   knows very quickly and you hear the [TS]

00:44:05   chabad joints like clicky click click [TS]

00:44:07   click with this little matador great [TS]

00:44:09   it's ok I think we're the movement of [TS]

00:44:11   the the realistic toy movement is [TS]

00:44:13   realistic is that can be live toys [TS]

00:44:15   moving around i think my favorite part [TS]

00:44:18   of that is probably the can fashion show [TS]

00:44:21   that comes a little bit later because [TS]

00:44:22   it's already hysterical with his coming [TS]

00:44:25   is coming out of modeling sailor suits [TS]

00:44:27   to whatever it doesn't matter whatever [TS]

00:44:29   it is but when he can't win you can't [TS]

00:44:31   really strike the pose because his [TS]

00:44:33   joints don't work that way and he [TS]

00:44:35   doesn't have you will need twice as [TS]

00:44:37   funny as it all the time when barbi what [TS]

00:44:39   barbi jumps into his lap it'sit's he has [TS]

00:44:41   never let her sniff little legs for [TS]

00:44:43   flavor yeah it's dissenters yeah exactly [TS]

00:44:45   so that stuff is great that stuff is [TS]

00:44:47   great and that all right here's to sort [TS]

00:44:48   of physics model that I expect to see in [TS]

00:44:50   one of these movies that was like that [TS]

00:44:51   the choice they had no [TS]

00:44:52   no movies like to like in the leg movies [TS]

00:44:55   that the choice was do we make the legos [TS]

00:44:57   only move like Legos or do we make the [TS]

00:44:59   legs bendy and I the paper like the [TS]

00:45:02   lively debate about what is the right [TS]

00:45:03   choice there with many test renders and [TS]

00:45:05   everything that uh that is this is the [TS]

00:45:08   arguments on both sides [TS]

00:45:09   ok so then we end up in Bonnie's room [TS]

00:45:11   and I loved what about Bonnie's room [TS]

00:45:13   because after we see the toys getting [TS]

00:45:15   all ravaged right all in the in the [TS]

00:45:17   playroom and everything and then buzz [TS]

00:45:18   gets tossed up on the windowsill and he [TS]

00:45:19   sees the butterfly room and all the kids [TS]

00:45:21   likes cuddling all the toys and being [TS]

00:45:24   nice and playing and he's in hell over [TS]

00:45:25   there with all the little toddlers [TS]

00:45:27   anyways then it's like juxtaposed with [TS]

00:45:28   that you go to Bonnie's room where the [TS]

00:45:30   boys are again like having this kind of [TS]

00:45:32   great playdate because she just found [TS]

00:45:34   buzz sorry she just found woody hanging [TS]

00:45:38   from the tree and so she takes him home [TS]

00:45:40   and he's their kind of role playing now [TS]

00:45:42   with all of bodies toys and Bonnie's [TS]

00:45:44   room and what I like the best where I [TS]

00:45:45   noticed the first thing in Bonnie's room [TS]

00:45:48   is that not all of her toys were like [TS]

00:45:50   girl pink princess sparkles like cake [TS]

00:45:53   plate it wasn't all so overly you know a [TS]

00:45:58   glorified I guess the best way to put it [TS]

00:46:02   but it wasn't so like the regular like a [TS]

00:46:04   girl's toy aisle [TS]

00:46:05   it didn't look anything like that Ken's [TS]

00:46:07   the one that uses a glitter marker not [TS]

00:46:09   nonetheless exactly since i get from [TS]

00:46:12   body as she gets whatever toys don't get [TS]

00:46:15   sent to the daycare center so she's [TS]

00:46:16   probably got kind of a mishmash of [TS]

00:46:18   things that were deemed inappropriate [TS]

00:46:20   for them it's a nice balance you know [TS]

00:46:22   what I mean she has like the box of you [TS]

00:46:25   know the spaceship box or the airplane [TS]

00:46:27   box that she made and she has like the [TS]

00:46:28   kitchen and coaches or dinosaurs it's [TS]

00:46:32   just a very well-balanced normal kid [TS]

00:46:35   room a lot like Andy great and that's [TS]

00:46:38   really nice i like that i like that [TS]

00:46:39   scene with the when she goes she goes to [TS]

00:46:42   the bathroom and and buddy's like where [TS]

00:46:44   are we and their answers well we're at a [TS]

00:46:46   cafe perhaps us perhaps a new jersey [TS]

00:46:49   recently very theories are better than [TS]

00:46:52   you [TS]

00:46:52   I had two notes in bodies room [TS]

00:46:54   I had oh hey Kristen Schaal I had no [TS]

00:46:57   idea who she was when this came out yeah [TS]

00:46:59   yep always excited to hear your voice [TS]

00:47:00   and my other note is oh hey totoro I had [TS]

00:47:03   no idea who he was when this camera haha [TS]

00:47:05   oh that's exciting to get to appreciate [TS]

00:47:08   that seeing a whole new light we have [TS]

00:47:09   helped you so my body's toys are so [TS]

00:47:11   welcoming and loving it so nice i factor [TS]

00:47:13   out like so [TS]

00:47:14   Miyazaki's a big influence on many of [TS]

00:47:17   the big principles that Pixar and we [TS]

00:47:19   thank you in the credits all right um I [TS]

00:47:22   kind of felt like the first time I saw [TS]

00:47:23   this putting actual totoro in the movie [TS]

00:47:26   it's like all right now we get it can [TS]

00:47:29   you feel like I've got everything I get [TS]

00:47:32   it [TS]

00:47:32   the eclectic collection of toys [TS]

00:47:34   abilities kids have that they would all [TS]

00:47:36   actually have this kind of variety the [TS]

00:47:38   only way kid that age is going to have [TS]

00:47:40   Toros that they're like parents showed [TS]

00:47:42   them totoro like because they love it [TS]

00:47:43   right because it's not a contemporary [TS]

00:47:45   movie for them the same way with the [TS]

00:47:47   wooden way you have what he is it was [TS]

00:47:48   like your parents or whatever but [TS]

00:47:49   because this is a movie made by old [TS]

00:47:51   people and they love miyazaki defined [TS]

00:47:53   said what we just put it in the movie [TS]

00:47:54   can we get the clarity that just put it [TS]

00:47:56   in and he doesn't really have any lines [TS]

00:47:58   are doing anything remotely totoro like [TS]

00:47:59   which is for sure does he gets a big [TS]

00:48:01   wide grin at the end okay but here's the [TS]

00:48:04   thing he doesn't how old terrifyingly to [TS]

00:48:07   this big part of Tyros very well we see [TS]

00:48:10   we do see a man in the yard at the end I [TS]

00:48:12   don't want to push this too far Steve [TS]

00:48:13   get my back on this [TS]

00:48:15   okay baby Bonnie's quote-unquote dad is [TS]

00:48:19   from Japan we see a man [TS]

00:48:20   well there's a dude in the yard at one [TS]

00:48:22   point but i don't see clearly identified [TS]

00:48:23   dad I'm just thinking that Sandy's dad [TS]

00:48:26   oh my god you have to be very funny i'm [TS]

00:48:31   with ya go to John you have to be from [TS]

00:48:32   Japan it's me as i get himself he's [TS]

00:48:35   there does miyazaki is on his bare it [TS]

00:48:39   means Aggies a miserable man which we [TS]

00:48:41   like from the kingdom of dreams and [TS]

00:48:42   magical I hope he's always at work with [TS]

00:48:44   his apron on reason bodies adorable [TS]

00:48:48   house with her adorable toys including [TS]

00:48:50   uh including the dinosaur and the kind [TS]

00:48:55   of smushed doll which is great but he [TS]

00:48:57   gets a chance to get played with again [TS]

00:48:58   and he likes it [TS]

00:48:59   that's an important part yes right he's [TS]

00:49:02   overjoyed and he's a little conflicted [TS]

00:49:03   because [TS]

00:49:05   he has been to play with in a long time [TS]

00:49:07   and he's about to go off to college we [TS]

00:49:08   probably will never be played with again [TS]

00:49:10   and he was kind of a hero again Bonnie [TS]

00:49:12   kinda like put him in that hero role [TS]

00:49:14   like since you saved us right that's [TS]

00:49:16   like pretty significant for Wendy [TS]

00:49:18   there's also a really good bit of sort [TS]

00:49:20   of storytelling here where we get the [TS]

00:49:24   address for a Bonnie's house on the [TS]

00:49:27   post-it note which comes into play later [TS]

00:49:29   presumably that's what he writes on the [TS]

00:49:31   post-it note that he puts on the box at [TS]

00:49:32   the end but it doesn't need to be there [TS]

00:49:36   I mean he could have said anything on [TS]

00:49:37   that no turbo or you know maybe we could [TS]

00:49:40   have just assumed that you know his my [TS]

00:49:43   and his mom told more bodies wasn't sent [TS]

00:49:45   him there but you've got those nice [TS]

00:49:48   little sort of those those early [TS]

00:49:50   foreshadowing that expects sort of [TS]

00:49:52   explain how things went [TS]

00:49:53   just a little extra detail it was not [TS]

00:49:55   not really necessary but it's a nice [TS]

00:49:56   touch i think you get the clown at their [TS]

00:49:58   word the windows and Bonnie's house too [TS]

00:50:00   that's around with that the at Slater's [TS]

00:50:01   a little bit later that's coming up [TS]

00:50:03   yeah okay Jason lead us into sunnyside [TS]

00:50:06   after-hours yes [TS]

00:50:08   sunnyside after dark where the where [TS]

00:50:10   there's the sea and say gambling buzzes [TS]

00:50:14   found out and put in lots of was [TS]

00:50:18   gradually revealed to not be a friendly [TS]

00:50:20   bear after all but the the boss of this [TS]

00:50:23   area and but and Buzz put in the chair [TS]

00:50:26   we get the site of ham squirting a bunch [TS]

00:50:29   of blocks and a weeble king out of his [TS]

00:50:30   belly button which I find fairly [TS]

00:50:32   disturbing right when they're all [TS]

00:50:34   ravaged after my time [TS]

00:50:36   yeah this is so we find out that they've [TS]

00:50:38   been the new toys get stuck with the [TS]

00:50:40   most dangerous of the rooms because the [TS]

00:50:44   other toys don't want to be torn limb [TS]

00:50:46   from limb by the by the youngest kids [TS]

00:50:48   and that that's the way it's gonna be [TS]

00:50:51   but either one thing before you get out [TS]

00:50:52   of the the snack machine is the next [TS]

00:50:55   this is a new extension of the toy store [TS]

00:50:58   universities toys here at the daycare [TS]

00:51:00   have got have sort of like figured out [TS]

00:51:04   their toys to the point where they [TS]

00:51:05   realize it's important to save manuals [TS]

00:51:07   for all the toys you got a little [TS]

00:51:09   librarian to ice that has the manuals [TS]

00:51:11   because the manuals tell you how to [TS]

00:51:13   reset things and stuff like that into [TS]

00:51:14   this information isn't just for like for [TS]

00:51:16   the purposes of repairing but also it [TS]

00:51:18   gives you power [TS]

00:51:19   r2 you know it's it's it's like [TS]

00:51:21   discovering how the human body works in [TS]

00:51:22   the building weapons to you know and [TS]

00:51:24   flicked the most damage to them right so [TS]

00:51:25   they hit they have they have the manuals [TS]

00:51:27   they can disable buzz because they have [TS]

00:51:30   the thing that tells you how to switch [TS]

00:51:31   them how to be in our races memory or [TS]

00:51:33   whatever in switching back into other [TS]

00:51:34   mode which is farther than any other [TS]

00:51:36   movies have gone with the toys really [TS]

00:51:38   recognizing their toys kind of like the [TS]

00:51:39   Enlightenment where you realize that [TS]

00:51:41   humans animals too and we can study them [TS]

00:51:43   by taking them apart and you know stuff [TS]

00:51:44   like that on don't go too far but you [TS]

00:51:46   can keep like and they can keep [TS]

00:51:48   stretching this like a toy story 4 how [TS]

00:51:50   far they want to go with toys realized [TS]

00:51:52   like realizing they're manufactured like [TS]

00:51:54   there's a factory where but stamping out [TS]

00:51:55   a bunch of toys at what point do they [TS]

00:51:57   come to life like oh no the factory [TS]

00:51:59   settings and again and again that plays [TS]

00:52:01   into the whole divine comedy thing it it [TS]

00:52:04   does feel like the prettiest the prison [TS]

00:52:05   library to write this is the you know [TS]

00:52:08   they've controlled the information [TS]

00:52:10   they've got all of it they can use it as [TS]

00:52:12   power you know they know their toys but [TS]

00:52:14   this is this you write this is going a [TS]

00:52:16   little bit further where they're there [TS]

00:52:17   now able to shut down or reboot their [TS]

00:52:20   enemies to make them compliant which is [TS]

00:52:24   what they are gonna look out a break [TS]

00:52:25   them apart like I know if they know how [TS]

00:52:27   to go together [TS]

00:52:28   there's a fairly fairly lengthy seen [TS]

00:52:30   here before we get back to Bonnie's [TS]

00:52:31   where the toys basically realize that [TS]

00:52:33   they're in prison first of all they [TS]

00:52:34   realized that and he was in fact going [TS]

00:52:36   to put them in the Attic because mrs. [TS]

00:52:38   Potato Head [TS]

00:52:38   I is variety and I wonder whether all [TS]

00:52:41   the metaphysics and that you're [TS]

00:52:42   complaining that kite went up a little [TS]

00:52:43   too fast and now she's looking to her [TS]

00:52:45   eyeball it's another world building [TS]

00:52:47   thing where they decided to any [TS]

00:52:48   instruments TI instantaneous Potato Head [TS]

00:52:51   I there's no range for that she just has [TS]

00:52:54   her ability to see and that's good [TS]

00:52:56   that's an important plot point because [TS]

00:52:58   that allows them to get information [TS]

00:52:59   about Andy's presence and if he's left [TS]

00:53:02   for college yet that they otherwise [TS]

00:53:03   wouldn't know it's pretty obvious what [TS]

00:53:05   it is but that's why right what that's [TS]

00:53:08   why she doesn't have that I but later we [TS]

00:53:09   learned that all of mr. potato heads [TS]

00:53:11   pieces apparently have an independent [TS]

00:53:13   life of their own which opens all sorts [TS]

00:53:15   of disturbing avenues of the gathered [TS]

00:53:19   they they spend some time sort of [TS]

00:53:21   realizing their situation and we get the [TS]

00:53:23   first scene when [TS]

00:53:25   when buzz is in the vending machine [TS]

00:53:28   where we see big baby as the enforcer [TS]

00:53:30   and i just want to give props for [TS]

00:53:32   whoever came up with big baby as a horse [TS]

00:53:34   or because the baby is brilliant such an [TS]

00:53:36   ironic thing to have a baby doll that [TS]

00:53:38   lady I yeah that lazy eyes so creepy no [TS]

00:53:41   good and we see how he got it and end in [TS]

00:53:44   the end big baby ends up being kind of a [TS]

00:53:46   sympathetic character who has been sort [TS]

00:53:47   of a sort of duped into becoming the you [TS]

00:53:50   know going over to the dark side but [TS]

00:53:53   many throws temper down the rocky yeah [TS]

00:53:55   yes he does a food there's definitely a [TS]

00:53:58   lot of all modules in this moment but [TS]

00:54:00   boy was he creepy man he is a he strikes [TS]

00:54:03   a figure and big baby sound is just the [TS]

00:54:05   baby sound so it's not exactly he's not [TS]

00:54:08   with your mind all over its body to [TS]

00:54:10   that's totally what we do to all the [TS]

00:54:12   baby dolls that I think those are tagged [TS]

00:54:13   recent studies show the best big baby [TS]

00:54:16   scene is when he's sitting on the swing [TS]

00:54:18   looking up like maybe even got my heads [TS]

00:54:22   are watching it again as a family and my [TS]

00:54:24   daughter said why is he looking at the [TS]

00:54:26   moon [TS]

00:54:27   like that's just what he does and David [TS]

00:54:30   out there every night all by himself on [TS]

00:54:33   the swingset looking at the moon [TS]

00:54:36   well if you buy its head will rotate 180 [TS]

00:54:38   degrees and you do writing you do it [TS]

00:54:42   into your soul [TS]

00:54:43   how is this rated G Money god especially [TS]

00:54:47   when you get to what has got to be the [TS]

00:54:50   filthiest line in any Pixar movie which [TS]

00:54:52   is hey no one takes my wife's mouth [TS]

00:54:54   except me with the second filthy is [TS]

00:54:58   probably being I told you kids stay out [TS]

00:55:00   of my butt both for mr. Potato yeah I [TS]

00:55:04   feel like maybe they gave Don Rickles a [TS]

00:55:06   little more leeway in this movie and ran [TS]

00:55:08   with it [TS]

00:55:09   can we talk about lots of origin yes now [TS]

00:55:11   we're back in Daisy's room and we hear [TS]

00:55:13   that we hear the tragic backstory yes we [TS]

00:55:15   get the get the wonderful bud luckey [TS]

00:55:17   doing another fantastic voice understand [TS]

00:55:21   this as a clown [TS]

00:55:22   yeah so you all seem bounden I'm sure he [TS]

00:55:25   did the music and singing and bound and [TS]

00:55:27   I think he's a an animator it's just [TS]

00:55:29   because the price was a corporal but he [TS]

00:55:31   has such a wonderful voice and he's so [TS]

00:55:33   perfect for the clone the so we learned [TS]

00:55:35   that lots of was left behind lots of the [TS]

00:55:38   clown [TS]

00:55:38   big baby were left behind at a rest stop [TS]

00:55:40   by their person and then they walk and [TS]

00:55:43   it's very sad they walk all of the all [TS]

00:55:45   of the way back from who knows how far [TS]

00:55:47   away and finally months later reach [TS]

00:55:50   their their their person and lots of [TS]

00:55:54   climbs up to her window to discover that [TS]

00:55:56   she's playing with a replacement lot so [TS]

00:55:58   that her parents bought that about her [TS]

00:56:00   huh [TS]

00:56:01   you might not even know is different we [TS]

00:56:03   did the same thing for my son's favorite [TS]

00:56:04   stuffed animal we bought two of them had [TS]

00:56:06   a backup like come on what what is wrong [TS]

00:56:09   with daisies parents that they were out [TS]

00:56:11   and they didn't realize that her kid [TS]

00:56:12   like their kids I know her favorite toys [TS]

00:56:15   like in the park i would have driven [TS]

00:56:16   back to that park and gotten them you [TS]

00:56:19   know any interesting because he's [TS]

00:56:20   probably related to andy and some way [TS]

00:56:22   maybe maybe they had backup system [TS]

00:56:24   described back just took it home and I [TS]

00:56:26   am so protective of atoms like special [TS]

00:56:29   toys [TS]

00:56:29   even though they change every single day [TS]

00:56:31   I make sure that he has them because i [TS]

00:56:33   don't want to hear it you know even if [TS]

00:56:35   you let them take all those toys out of [TS]

00:56:37   the car which first off that's a lot of [TS]

00:56:40   stuff to be bringing out of a car door [TS]

00:56:41   rest stop and then not check to bring [TS]

00:56:44   them back in i get there distracted she [TS]

00:56:45   fell asleep whatever but that's a lot of [TS]

00:56:48   stuff I know [TS]

00:56:49   yeah there's a lot of stuff yeah it [TS]

00:56:51   happens people leave things behind their [TS]

00:56:53   litter bug that's what they are just [TS]

00:56:55   this and about his transformer Tory we [TS]

00:56:57   left a baby doll behind when we were in [TS]

00:56:59   Hawaii with jamie and we we almost [TS]

00:57:02   missed our flight back because we drove [TS]

00:57:04   like an extra 40 minutes to go get the [TS]

00:57:06   doll because that's your your good [TS]

00:57:07   parents that's why it's the AG's parents [TS]

00:57:09   their crap yeah somebody on the story [TS]

00:57:12   team had a rough experience I think know [TS]

00:57:15   that informs all of these stories [TS]

00:57:17   well you know actual toys aren't alive [TS]

00:57:19   so in real life [TS]

00:57:20   what he's in jax I another one to [TS]

00:57:22   consider trying to tell a kid that you [TS]

00:57:24   know you just give them a try we found a [TS]

00:57:26   mirror does assuming you've got one to [TS]

00:57:27   replace it with yeah yeah well think i [TS]

00:57:29   had two is one one is none think ahead [TS]

00:57:32   by like when you pick up your shipping [TS]

00:57:33   kid off of the pile of toys you also [TS]

00:57:35   scooped up yeah sometimes herein are you [TS]

00:57:37   know the worst part of our backup our [TS]

00:57:39   backup thing for my son is that at one [TS]

00:57:42   point he had school pictures and my wife [TS]

00:57:44   wanted him to take it with a little [TS]

00:57:45   stuffed animal and she made him take it [TS]

00:57:48   with the replacement because it was a [TS]

00:57:49   nice [TS]

00:57:50   condition doesn't know we have this [TS]

00:57:51   picture of him with his toy that's not [TS]

00:57:53   really his tour we look at it like [TS]

00:57:54   that's the imposter [TS]

00:57:56   I mean he took a picture with in shiny [TS]

00:57:59   new one then came home with switch [TS]

00:58:01   immediately back to the one who never [TS]

00:58:02   know [TS]

00:58:02   ok holiday curmudgeon when did you win [TS]

00:58:06   don't tell your child that you had lied [TS]

00:58:08   to him much much much later so you don't [TS]

00:58:11   care anymore he knows your monster [TS]

00:58:12   why would you tell it because it's a [TS]

00:58:14   funny story like this picture is John's [TS]

00:58:16   all about the truth [TS]

00:58:17   how about the truth is I a bad i can't [TS]

00:58:19   believe this [TS]

00:58:20   tell the truth so we get into the escape [TS]

00:58:22   plan now yeah alright so the phone the [TS]

00:58:26   phone with the the voice same guy who [TS]

00:58:28   narrates the newsreel in the incredibles [TS]

00:58:31   actually is the is the voice of the [TS]

00:58:34   tough guy on the phone with Newton i [TS]

00:58:36   love when the phone just bumps what his [TS]

00:58:38   leg our dog do that when he wants [TS]

00:58:40   something from the refrigerator [TS]

00:58:41   it's so cute you're not sure of the [TS]

00:58:43   phone can even talk with you just kinda [TS]

00:58:44   has that like you know that smile on [TS]

00:58:46   that face and this is really this is [TS]

00:58:47   really pushing far as far as far back as [TS]

00:58:50   I think they've ever pushed with a with [TS]

00:58:52   a toy that didn't continue like a slinky [TS]

00:58:53   may be really old but that phone like I [TS]

00:58:55   remember that phone but it didn't live [TS]

00:58:57   on like unlike the slinky and the other [TS]

00:58:59   things like it didnt the phone state [TS]

00:59:01   like they made that phone and we all had [TS]

00:59:03   it when we were kids if you're old [TS]

00:59:04   enough but it never continued into this [TS]

00:59:06   day unlike all the other thing what are [TS]

00:59:08   you talking about that phone still [TS]

00:59:09   exists [TS]

00:59:10   really they keep making still nobody [TS]

00:59:11   that phone i have pictures of my kid [TS]

00:59:13   pulling that phone around but it's a [TS]

00:59:15   great degree dock thing it's a throwback [TS]

00:59:17   the parents you know [TS]

00:59:18   also it makes no sense to children [TS]

00:59:19   anymore because it doesn't cry what is [TS]

00:59:21   it really that is it's not the fuck I I [TS]

00:59:24   never had one but it was in every [TS]

00:59:26   kindergarten and fortune favored visited [TS]

00:59:29   and even even when my kids went into to [TS]

00:59:32   pre-kindergarten everything they had [TS]

00:59:34   them so you know in there it's just not [TS]

00:59:37   necessarily in your house [TS]

00:59:38   yeah Adam totally knows what a regular [TS]

00:59:40   phone is I don't know I know why you [TS]

00:59:42   know be reincarnated and weird or [TS]

00:59:43   something that he knows because you have [TS]

00:59:45   one sitting there hogging the place [TS]

00:59:47   underneath to television where AV [TS]

00:59:48   equipment [TS]

00:59:49   well yeah but I mean the first time we [TS]

00:59:51   showed him that he knew what to do [TS]

00:59:53   that's weird right yeah so the phone guy [TS]

00:59:55   good details what all the issues are the [TS]

00:59:57   escape to help them get out and then we [TS]

00:59:59   we leave [TS]

00:59:59   we leave [TS]

01:00:00   we have this whole whole escape plan [TS]

01:00:05   the tortilla is gotten in order to get [TS]

01:00:08   into mr. potato head out of his [TS]

01:00:09   out-of-the-box spend the night in the [TS]

01:00:12   box just just me and sand and Lincoln [TS]

01:00:14   Logs I don't long for me to torture some [TS]

01:00:17   information out of Ken get to get the [TS]

01:00:19   information from ken so gracefully he [TS]

01:00:22   was magnificent not the narrow not [TS]

01:00:25   destroying all that is vintage until we [TS]

01:00:29   finally breaks we already talked to ken [TS]

01:00:31   fashion show which is very quiet musical [TS]

01:00:33   hog [TS]

01:00:34   yes quiet music along its they have a [TS]

01:00:36   lot of good visual human here obviously [TS]

01:00:37   the tortilla is all visual humor like [TS]

01:00:39   that the you know it's just funny to put [TS]

01:00:41   the watching doing that but one of my [TS]

01:00:42   favorite bits is so it's amazing they [TS]

01:00:45   can you know drawback from the well of [TS]

01:00:47   the previous movies gags know just [TS]

01:00:49   enough like just you know not putting on [TS]

01:00:51   too much so here we've got we got buzz [TS]

01:00:53   back to like the Space Ranger there [TS]

01:00:55   doesn't know he's a toy right which have [TS]

01:00:56   gone back to that well many many times [TS]

01:00:58   they'd only not here but there's enough [TS]

01:00:59   time for maybe two or three little gags [TS]

01:01:01   with it and some of them are exquisitely [TS]

01:01:03   done my favorite is they put the plastic [TS]

01:01:05   you know tub over him as a prison and [TS]

01:01:07   sit on top of it and he whips out his [TS]

01:01:10   laser draws a circle on the plastic runs [TS]

01:01:13   into it bounces off of it and then from [TS]

01:01:15   the foreground two people come together [TS]

01:01:17   in front of him bouncing off of [TS]

01:01:19   continued the scene like they don't even [TS]

01:01:20   do well on it is just the gag is just [TS]

01:01:22   like a transition from cine because we [TS]

01:01:24   know he's going to bounce off we don't [TS]

01:01:25   need to see that gay again we've seen [TS]

01:01:27   that same joke again but they do the [TS]

01:01:28   visual gag as a background two [TS]

01:01:30   characters talking about the continuing [TS]

01:01:31   escape and I was just like perfect that [TS]

01:01:33   was just the perfect amount of stuff it [TS]

01:01:35   was a good gag and they were moving on [TS]

01:01:37   before the gag even went off i also like [TS]

01:01:39   the the lighting in this like Marlon [TS]

01:01:41   you're bringing up lighting earlier i [TS]

01:01:42   think all these night scenes just would [TS]

01:01:44   not have been as possible in the other [TS]

01:01:47   movies they were the just so dynamic and [TS]

01:01:50   exquisite and I that look the look at [TS]

01:01:53   the linoleum at night when they're all [TS]

01:01:55   in their little cages and the way that's [TS]

01:01:57   the light shining in from the window [TS]

01:01:59   above them it's it's just really dynamic [TS]

01:02:02   and fantastic [TS]

01:02:04   they do they do so much i mean the one [TS]

01:02:06   who's flying on the kite off the roof [TS]

01:02:08   and you know he's kind of colored green [TS]

01:02:10   because of the light being filtered [TS]

01:02:11   through the green [TS]

01:02:13   so much stuff like that the lighting [TS]

01:02:14   stone and the nice thing is i mean like [TS]

01:02:16   you notice if you're looking at the kind [TS]

01:02:17   of looking at the kind of nerd out but i [TS]

01:02:19   don't think they're over the top with it [TS]

01:02:20   i don't think there they are showing off [TS]

01:02:22   but they're doing a very solid away and [TS]

01:02:24   I think it really helps the story that's [TS]

01:02:25   that's what makes the middle so fun for [TS]

01:02:27   me is how moody it is but how how silly [TS]

01:02:29   it is too it's a great combination and [TS]

01:02:31   there's so many good lines to in the [TS]

01:02:33   whole Middle escape seen it's just it's [TS]

01:02:36   just great [TS]

01:02:36   yes sir well-groomed man the pigeon the [TS]

01:02:39   pigeon love the picture pigeon shows up [TS]

01:02:41   and like it just sits there yeah don't [TS]

01:02:43   need to do anything you just see a [TS]

01:02:44   pigeon you just see a picture and [TS]

01:02:45   tortilla you know what's going down but [TS]

01:02:47   he's been acting like a pigeon most [TS]

01:02:49   pigeon pigeon yeah i'd pay you know [TS]

01:02:52   there are other there are other objects [TS]

01:02:54   that mr. Potato Head can stick his [TS]

01:02:56   things into radiology guys ready gene [TS]

01:03:00   needs now mr. cucumber head and this [TS]

01:03:02   isn't a towhead seems awfully pleased [TS]

01:03:04   she like that jackal so tall and skinny [TS]

01:03:10   was the line you will not believe what [TS]

01:03:13   I've been ripped up and we should [TS]

01:03:18   totally talk about elbows oh yeah so [TS]

01:03:20   buzzes buzzes accidentally rebooted into [TS]

01:03:23   spanish language mode and he he begins [TS]

01:03:26   to speak spanish and his a section 444 [TS]

01:03:31   jesse is also revealed in greater detail [TS]

01:03:34   here with his with his dancing and stuff [TS]

01:03:37   yeah he doesn't quite a great pasa Doble [TS]

01:03:39   there i love Italy is voiced by somebody [TS]

01:03:43   different because that's yeah look how [TS]

01:03:44   it would be to it would not be placed by [TS]

01:03:46   the home-improvement guy i love that [TS]

01:03:49   now I like that this is a this is just [TS]

01:03:51   one of those things it's just totally [TS]

01:03:52   wacky like it is i remember seeing this [TS]

01:03:55   in the theater and be like okay that's [TS]

01:03:56   not what I expected at all like I don't [TS]

01:03:58   know how that works in the world i don't [TS]

01:04:00   know i don't care it's very funny that [TS]

01:04:03   he's a you know he's paid to be really [TS]

01:04:05   you know sold in a few different regions [TS]

01:04:07   and so he needs to speak Spanish as well [TS]

01:04:09   as englischen and he still buzzed he's [TS]

01:04:11   still super helpful you know like he's [TS]

01:04:12   all he's already opened up the doors [TS]

01:04:14   hero B&O makes sense that there be some [TS]

01:04:16   weird esoteric means to switch in [TS]

01:04:18   between mode reduces the recess real [TS]

01:04:21   finger than five seconds we have a [TS]

01:04:22   little play kitchen that goes in the [TS]

01:04:24   mouth [TS]

01:04:24   languages and the kids love nothing more [TS]

01:04:25   now than ever that is to change the [TS]

01:04:27   language in here and say all these [TS]

01:04:28   different things you know it's it's like [TS]

01:04:30   they had a big brainstorming thing of [TS]

01:04:31   like things about toys things about toys [TS]

01:04:34   that we have not covered before i'm one [TS]

01:04:35   of the things about toys is a lot of [TS]

01:04:36   them come with different language modes [TS]

01:04:38   and so they decided to work that was one [TS]

01:04:40   of the ones that but you know bubble to [TS]

01:04:41   the top and work down at the movies not [TS]

01:04:43   going to be major plot point we're not [TS]

01:04:44   going to be a buzz stuck that way we [TS]

01:04:46   have to kill him it's just gonna be yet [TS]

01:04:47   another funny gag like i was amazed [TS]

01:04:50   watching this movie I'd forgotten that [TS]

01:04:51   how solid all of the writing is every [TS]

01:04:54   scene every line nothing wasted very [TS]

01:04:57   clever in a way that has unfortunately [TS]

01:04:59   not been true of some of the more recent [TS]

01:05:00   pixar movies where there are some things [TS]

01:05:02   that are just sort of you know conveying [TS]

01:05:04   story moving the plot along [TS]

01:05:05   whereas this this feels like is the 18 [TS]

01:05:08   back again really nailing and so that [TS]

01:05:09   the funny spanish buzz thing does not [TS]

01:05:13   derail the a story it just adds flavor [TS]

01:05:16   and they they picked the five best lines [TS]

01:05:18   of the five best gags and it just makes [TS]

01:05:20   the whole movie better [TS]

01:05:21   well and you always have something [TS]

01:05:23   something goes wrong like you see the [TS]

01:05:25   perfect heist they plan the perfect guys [TS]

01:05:27   something's really have to improvise and [TS]

01:05:29   this is a delightful thing to go wrong [TS]

01:05:31   and it's ridiculous [TS]

01:05:33   that's that's why i love it i have a [TS]

01:05:35   note here my next note in in in the [TS]

01:05:37   notes is is just a big baby is super [TS]

01:05:39   creepy because we've gotten to the point [TS]

01:05:41   also a big baby is out on the swing [TS]

01:05:43   looking up at the moon staring and I [TS]

01:05:45   think they play the CID music to when [TS]

01:05:47   big babies like walking towards them [TS]

01:05:49   while they didn't when the big baby just [TS]

01:05:51   sitting out there sort of looking at the [TS]

01:05:53   moon you feel sympathy for even though [TS]

01:05:55   it's wish tell ya as long as we know the [TS]

01:05:57   back North easily like a dating but then [TS]

01:06:00   as soon as soon as they make the noise [TS]

01:06:02   and that head flips around currently [TS]

01:06:04   with that I that creepy I oh man [TS]

01:06:08   such a great creepy moment creepy doll [TS]

01:06:10   that always follows you [TS]

01:06:11   yeah nice a good good Barbie line here [TS]

01:06:15   authority should derive from the consent [TS]

01:06:16   of the governed not from the threat of [TS]

01:06:17   force [TS]

01:06:18   yeah Thank You Barbie I wonder how many [TS]

01:06:20   kids are going to see toy story when [TS]

01:06:22   their kids right and then learn about [TS]

01:06:23   that and school later and be like at [TS]

01:06:25   some toys story right [TS]

01:06:27   yeah okay so much extra mattel paid to [TS]

01:06:31   have them say that line [TS]

01:06:32   did you guys make her say something [TS]

01:06:33   smart man isn't was hard i doubt mattel [TS]

01:06:38   ask them to do that ya know they do [TS]

01:06:40   pretty good down when I was the pits are [TS]

01:06:41   ya [TS]

01:06:42   they understand that barbie is barbie [TS]

01:06:44   and like they have to embrace that but [TS]

01:06:46   they constantly are working to subvert [TS]

01:06:48   as well given the first movie when she [TS]

01:06:50   appears like in the credits into gets [TS]

01:06:51   tired of smiling and her cheeks are [TS]

01:06:53   killing her whatever like just there's [TS]

01:06:55   always an acknowledgement that despite [TS]

01:06:57   Barbie being at her heart a barbie girl [TS]

01:06:59   right [TS]

01:07:00   it's she still like the demands of [TS]

01:07:02   filling that role like its work and she [TS]

01:07:05   isn't just that we're you know beaten up [TS]

01:07:07   Kendall she stuck up for all her friends [TS]

01:07:09   she like you know went into jail because [TS]

01:07:10   you of what you believed in and then she [TS]

01:07:12   you know she tried to switch sides [TS]

01:07:14   didn't say always my dream house no [TS]

01:07:16   description manipulated can like pretty [TS]

01:07:18   expertly and yes great she got the [TS]

01:07:20   manual she put on the suit she forgot to [TS]

01:07:22   take off her heels but you know it's [TS]

01:07:24   okay this is what we leave we get here [TS]

01:07:26   our conference it's a confrontation at [TS]

01:07:28   the dumpster they broke me and the [TS]

01:07:30   sodium lights of the dumpster speaking [TS]

01:07:31   of lighting everything is yellow in the [TS]

01:07:33   CM this is a there at the dumpster and [TS]

01:07:36   they have slid down there and they're [TS]

01:07:37   they're making their escape but Lotso [TS]

01:07:39   was there and big baby and the telephone [TS]

01:07:41   to get tortured and broken broken broken [TS]

01:07:43   ? little again G rating [TS]

01:07:47   yeah they were all just trash waiting to [TS]

01:07:49   be thrown away [TS]

01:07:50   that's the that's the message here just [TS]

01:07:53   waiting to be better than he yells that [TS]

01:07:54   like I'm like okay this is the darkest [TS]

01:07:56   never been [TS]

01:07:58   we're entering the dark the dark stuff [TS]

01:08:00   now this this is hell yea Somali winds [TS]

01:08:03   up in the dumpster and Ken saves the day [TS]

01:08:05   as I recall the first of all you he he [TS]

01:08:07   turns on him and then lots of throws him [TS]

01:08:09   over to the the other group sunnyside [TS]

01:08:12   could be cool and groovy they turn big [TS]

01:08:14   baby by revealing that data revealing [TS]

01:08:16   the David had not raised a big baby but [TS]

01:08:18   I replaced lotsa right yet and there's [TS]

01:08:21   that heartbreaking scene where they [TS]

01:08:22   throw down the Daisy pendant and big [TS]

01:08:24   baby looks down and says mom had a [TS]

01:08:27   dependent so perfect such a cheap [TS]

01:08:28   plastic little thing that always comes [TS]

01:08:29   with the toys with like the handwriting [TS]

01:08:31   scrawled on like not and then lots of [TS]

01:08:33   just brutally smashes it with his stick [TS]

01:08:35   yeah I wouldn't work those things are [TS]

01:08:37   tough yeah yeah and then of course when [TS]

01:08:40   one slot so goes into the dumpster and [TS]

01:08:41   then everyone is starting to make their [TS]

01:08:44   escape of course the peace [TS]

01:08:46   the planet guy gets stuck and even even [TS]

01:08:48   what he's like a really crying out loud [TS]

01:08:50   so that they may end up in the garbage [TS]

01:08:53   stream there in the trash truck they [TS]

01:08:55   have to there's an adventure an action [TS]

01:08:58   when they're trying to get things out of [TS]

01:08:59   the people who are trapped in the trash [TS]

01:09:01   truck and all of that buzz glows ya glow [TS]

01:09:04   in the dark he used to just glow in [TS]

01:09:05   fluorescent lighting I think that may [TS]

01:09:06   actually be a bit of a continuity how [TS]

01:09:08   like they're charged up you put them in [TS]

01:09:10   light that charges them and then in [TS]

01:09:12   total darkness they will emit light yeah [TS]

01:09:13   but where is he recharging he wasn't [TS]

01:09:15   reach up during the day during the day [TS]

01:09:16   it doesn't last that long [TS]

01:09:17   now it's okay one line of dialogue also [TS]

01:09:20   I i love the garbage Wally but I think [TS]

01:09:22   they're even better in this one that the [TS]

01:09:23   the the detail on the garbage stuff is [TS]

01:09:26   amazing [TS]

01:09:26   throughout all of this once they get to [TS]

01:09:28   the dump I have to say I'm really sorry [TS]

01:09:29   but I totally laughed when the Pizza [TS]

01:09:31   Planet aliens got plowed by the oh yeah [TS]

01:09:35   I physically located lovely fashion it [TS]

01:09:36   was just that everyone know we're just [TS]

01:09:38   it was a good it was a good way to get [TS]

01:09:41   people to stop thinking about what is [TS]

01:09:43   the obvious sort of deus ex machina for [TS]

01:09:46   the end of the movie because you do stop [TS]

01:09:49   thinking about them because they plowed [TS]

01:09:50   away and you're not really attached to [TS]

01:09:51   them and there's so many of them and [TS]

01:09:53   they're kind of interchangeable in their [TS]

01:09:54   plastic and it's done for gagging you [TS]

01:09:56   and like if if you weren't so caught up [TS]

01:09:59   with out with the plot of our heroes [TS]

01:10:00   going down the convertible you may think [TS]

01:10:02   like I bet you know that you would [TS]

01:10:06   predict the ending [TS]

01:10:06   it's gonna be big clods going to be [TS]

01:10:08   those guys like it's so obvious in [TS]

01:10:09   hindsight but because they dispose of [TS]

01:10:11   them and get them off the scene and a [TS]

01:10:12   comic gag and then immediately bring you [TS]

01:10:15   into this this peril for our heroes it [TS]

01:10:17   we you know for the first time watching [TS]

01:10:18   movie [TS]

01:10:19   it worked like up you know that clock [TS]

01:10:22   comes down as soon as they did you [TS]

01:10:23   realize what's gonna happen but not [TS]

01:10:24   before I don't know if anyone else [TS]

01:10:26   yeah predicted but I didn't and I [TS]

01:10:27   thought that was an amazing bit of movie [TS]

01:10:29   yes yes simply add a sex club and dude [TS]

01:10:32   there's so much momentum and long Merlin [TS]

01:10:36   you're totally right the detail when you [TS]

01:10:37   think that they had to build every [TS]

01:10:39   little bit of the garbage yeah i mean [TS]

01:10:40   that we think about yes exactly like all [TS]

01:10:42   the stuff it just it synthesis better [TS]

01:10:45   this is nerd stuff but I mean you know [TS]

01:10:47   we talked about this back and up the [TS]

01:10:48   episode about toy story one about even [TS]

01:10:50   back then 1995 the baseboards in the [TS]

01:10:52   house were kind of scuffed and this one [TS]

01:10:54   I don't know maybe I'll sit closer and i [TS]

01:10:55   have my glasses on but man I was just [TS]

01:10:57   noticing all of the just extraordinary [TS]

01:10:59   Mary unnecessary amount of ridiculous [TS]

01:11:01   detail and then you get think about what [TS]

01:11:03   it would be to render that scene after [TS]

01:11:06   they've gone through the shredder to [TS]

01:11:07   render all of those pieces can you just [TS]

01:11:09   yeah Kevin it's just it's mine it is it [TS]

01:11:12   is mind-boggling [TS]

01:11:13   so there's a there's an exciting uh [TS]

01:11:16   adventure that happens on the little [TS]

01:11:18   conveyor and they save lots o showing [TS]

01:11:21   that they're good people and lots of [TS]

01:11:23   immediately throws them to the Wolves [TS]

01:11:24   because he has not had a very bad toy [TS]

01:11:26   and that leads to your favorite thing [TS]

01:11:29   which is a the slide into death in the [TS]

01:11:31   video incinerator a light at the end of [TS]

01:11:35   the tunnel is not an oncoming train yep [TS]

01:11:38   i was already crying through the whole [TS]

01:11:40   inferno sequence [TS]

01:11:42   oh god you've got them running on the [TS]

01:11:45   conveyor that's moving and they're just [TS]

01:11:46   running stay in place yeah humanity [TS]

01:11:48   horse my right and and the whole thing [TS]

01:11:50   seems impossible [TS]

01:11:51   yeah totally and it just takes the [TS]

01:11:53   expressions I mean it's I think mostly [TS]

01:11:55   wordless and just the expressions and [TS]

01:11:57   physical movements they're grabbing [TS]

01:11:59   hands I think there's some kind of like [TS]

01:12:00   some kind of heat waves like oh you know [TS]

01:12:02   is this is really happening this is yet [TS]

01:12:04   and the dawning realization and little [TS]

01:12:06   pairings off of the relationship you [TS]

01:12:08   holding hands so what so what pixar had [TS]

01:12:10   done with with all the movies before [TS]

01:12:12   this is it had it had built up enough [TS]

01:12:14   experience with how they tell stories [TS]

01:12:16   that I that the only way you could get [TS]

01:12:19   an audience to believe that they really [TS]

01:12:20   were gonna kill the noise is to have [TS]

01:12:22   pixar beware Pixar is and say you know [TS]

01:12:24   what [TS]

01:12:25   Pixar would kill them pits are would [TS]

01:12:26   have it end this way because like it if [TS]

01:12:29   this was the very first movie pics are [TS]

01:12:30   made like all the toys aren't gonna die [TS]

01:12:32   of course but given two pictures body it [TS]

01:12:34   were cleaning up this business I think [TS]

01:12:36   they have a was up before after this I [TS]

01:12:38   forget it's kind of a kind of blends [TS]

01:12:40   together things after just one more [TS]

01:12:41   night when i watch this for the very [TS]

01:12:43   first time I you know it wasn't like I [TS]

01:12:45   was like again it was all of course [TS]

01:12:47   they're gonna be saved like it is [TS]

01:12:48   conceivable that those toys are going to [TS]

01:12:50   go into that Center entirely conceivable [TS]

01:12:52   I as they're holding hands and then the [TS]

01:12:55   heat waves started coming and and that's [TS]

01:12:57   why i was just bawling my eyes out [TS]

01:12:59   because it was so impossible how are [TS]

01:13:02   they gonna get out of and that shot that [TS]

01:13:03   shot of Andy the word Andy on his boot [TS]

01:13:06   that yeah [TS]

01:13:07   that is telling bullseye to stop [TS]

01:13:09   struggling stop struggling bullseye [TS]

01:13:11   but although it's just seeing Andy [TS]

01:13:12   written as boudoir like and he's never [TS]

01:13:14   gonna see you again I like God and and [TS]

01:13:17   again the thing that wasn't hitting me [TS]

01:13:19   and you know it's like we said at the [TS]

01:13:20   beginning it a lot of the the tears in [TS]

01:13:22   this are tears of joy for me in that in [TS]

01:13:26   that first moment the first time I saw [TS]

01:13:27   it wasn't that they were gonna die [TS]

01:13:29   it was that they were together it was [TS]

01:13:31   that acceptance in that that connection [TS]

01:13:33   they all had and that's why you can buy [TS]

01:13:35   it is like well they all went out but [TS]

01:13:37   they went out together and the lesson is [TS]

01:13:38   like together together till the end [TS]

01:13:40   right you like he's not as if you're [TS]

01:13:41   like this can't be happening like know [TS]

01:13:43   this could be happening is because the [TS]

01:13:45   toys except that's what the thing is it [TS]

01:13:46   twice its struggle right for the [TS]

01:13:47   answer's no joy in that it is crushing [TS]

01:13:49   its heart crushing oh it's the same [TS]

01:13:52   never bothered me that much i don't [TS]

01:13:54   think i ever thought there was any [TS]

01:13:55   chance they would possibly meltdown all [TS]

01:13:57   those toys i think i think that a big [TS]

01:13:58   part of its the music i think i believe [TS]

01:14:00   it's rainy Newman wrote the score i [TS]

01:14:02   think but that you know it's funny that [TS]

01:14:04   was that was it everything were [TS]

01:14:06   reforming painting but there's a bit [TS]

01:14:08   about you can't you can't sing songs [TS]

01:14:10   from nobody remembers songs from Marvel [TS]

01:14:11   movies but I can hear that song that [TS]

01:14:13   bomb bomb i can see here that in my head [TS]

01:14:16   right now and its its its ponderous and [TS]

01:14:19   it's you know and the thing is my kid [TS]

01:14:21   has seen this movie a million times I've [TS]

01:14:22   seen it a million times and should be [TS]

01:14:24   named for this phenomenon where you know [TS]

01:14:25   it's all going to turn out fine but [TS]

01:14:27   you're still you're still kind of [TS]

01:14:29   bristling your seat a little bit it's [TS]

01:14:30   very it's very very uncomfortable there [TS]

01:14:33   is that someone made a youtube video of [TS]

01:14:35   cutting the movie where they stopped it [TS]

01:14:37   and it just faded to black right before [TS]

01:14:40   the clocking down haha and they showed [TS]

01:14:43   it to their mother and they just stopped [TS]

01:14:46   the movie right there and let it hang [TS]

01:14:48   and they let her think for like a day [TS]

01:14:50   that that's how it ended and she was [TS]

01:14:53   devastated and they filmed the whole [TS]

01:14:55   thing is pretty great but wait mom we're [TS]

01:14:56   going to show you the real end which is [TS]

01:14:57   actually worse [TS]

01:14:59   yeah and the clock comes down and saves [TS]

01:15:01   tony soprano and it's great nights [TS]

01:15:04   people [TS]

01:15:05   this was a little intense as i recall [TS]

01:15:07   for my son in the theater he was very [TS]

01:15:09   concerned [TS]

01:15:10   here's my question for you guys because [TS]

01:15:12   I find missing very affecting the fact [TS]

01:15:14   that they join hands it it destroyed me [TS]

01:15:16   in the movie theater it made [TS]

01:15:18   reluctant to watch it again but but let [TS]

01:15:21   me ask this question is this scene [TS]

01:15:24   necessary did it is this is this scene [TS]

01:15:26   where they all are [TS]

01:15:28   uh giving in to the fact that they're [TS]

01:15:31   going to be incinerated until they're [TS]

01:15:32   saved at the last moment and it is the [TS]

01:15:34   we're all going to die we've accepted [TS]

01:15:37   our deaths [TS]

01:15:38   we've accepted our mortality now let's [TS]

01:15:40   now let's go into oblivion together it's [TS]

01:15:44   an interesting choice for Pixar to put [TS]

01:15:45   this in the movie i would say this is by [TS]

01:15:47   far the single darkest thing in any [TS]

01:15:50   Pixar movie and I did find myself [TS]

01:15:52   wondering did they need to go this far [TS]

01:15:54   or not what do you think I think they [TS]

01:15:57   did if they were intending to put in the [TS]

01:16:01   whole divine comedy analogy which is why [TS]

01:16:03   I think that's there because you have to [TS]

01:16:06   have you have to have an inferno there [TS]

01:16:08   and you have to have the possibility of [TS]

01:16:10   death and something beyond and you have [TS]

01:16:14   to have that that salvation that they [TS]

01:16:16   could have they could have had a wacky [TS]

01:16:18   of trying to save people and pulling [TS]

01:16:20   people out and saving them by the seat [TS]

01:16:21   of their pants from the fireball seen [TS]

01:16:23   and that's not what they have fun day [TS]

01:16:25   give out have been funny they give up [TS]

01:16:27   and accept death [TS]

01:16:30   yes in this yes they have they have to [TS]

01:16:32   accept the consequences of them being [TS]

01:16:33   good because they save face a lot so [TS]

01:16:35   that's why they don't get out because [TS]

01:16:37   they you know they go back for lots of a [TS]

01:16:39   save them and like it's it's kind of [TS]

01:16:41   thing like being good sometimes has [TS]

01:16:43   consequences and you have to decide [TS]

01:16:45   you're going to be the kind of presently [TS]

01:16:46   lots or die you're gonna be the kind of [TS]

01:16:47   person to save them out and just even [TS]

01:16:49   more broadly just the basic outline of [TS]

01:16:51   the story where you have to go all the [TS]

01:16:53   way down to the pit before you have the [TS]

01:16:54   khazar catharsis of being saved and sort [TS]

01:16:57   of the Dumont where you you know get [TS]

01:16:59   giving away the body the casual like [TS]

01:17:01   lead out of the movie but you have to [TS]

01:17:03   bring them down to the lowest level to [TS]

01:17:05   have the highest high and like i said i [TS]

01:17:07   think the claw saving you know like it [TS]

01:17:09   is kind of a little bit of a cheat but i [TS]

01:17:11   think i think they pull it off like they [TS]

01:17:13   pull it off they bring them down to the [TS]

01:17:14   lowest possible low so low that they're [TS]

01:17:16   not struggling anymore and then they [TS]

01:17:18   pull pull them out of that it is relief [TS]

01:17:20   and I think it allows the end of the [TS]

01:17:22   movie on the lawn just sort of relax [TS]

01:17:24   right smooth out it's a clock come and [TS]

01:17:26   pick them out let's see change that up a [TS]

01:17:27   little bit you decided instead that the [TS]

01:17:29   shredder is going to be the the thing [TS]

01:17:31   we need to avoid so they never got the [TS]

01:17:32   magnet stuff if you pull them out with [TS]

01:17:35   the the club before they went into the [TS]

01:17:37   shredder that would have felt like a [TS]

01:17:39   thrill ride but it wouldn't have had the [TS]

01:17:41   same kind of Spielberg in thrust that we [TS]

01:17:46   have with something where you this is it [TS]

01:17:48   it's all over it's done it's done like [TS]

01:17:49   you know [TS]

01:17:50   christoph waltz has found you under the [TS]

01:17:51   board's game over like that and then I'd [TS]

01:17:54   like that i agree with John I think then [TS]

01:17:55   that sets up the what phone should [TS]

01:17:58   probably be the last twist or a movie [TS]

01:18:00   but it sets out in that ability of just [TS]

01:18:02   hit his head is between the eyes with [TS]

01:18:04   with with the touching and then and then [TS]

01:18:07   finish it off with a nice little dessert [TS]

01:18:09   meant of the funny credits but i-i-i [TS]

01:18:12   don't know they needed to go there but i [TS]

01:18:14   think i'm glad they did [TS]

01:18:15   it's a it's like a savior moment you [TS]

01:18:17   know they didn't save themselves they [TS]

01:18:19   they didn't escape themselves over there [TS]

01:18:21   you know with their ingenuity that [TS]

01:18:23   they've been showing throughout the [TS]

01:18:24   movie where they can work together and [TS]

01:18:25   do stuff we've seen that over and over [TS]

01:18:27   again if they just did that again it [TS]

01:18:29   wouldn't have felt as as you guys were [TS]

01:18:31   saying as cathartic is like you know [TS]

01:18:32   uplifting and and and kind of a yeah [TS]

01:18:36   just save your esque where you know your [TS]

01:18:38   lifted up into the light [TS]

01:18:40   you know that bright light of the crane [TS]

01:18:42   turns onto them and it's lifted up and [TS]

01:18:44   then they poured out you realize also as [TS]

01:18:47   a consequence of them saving those [TS]

01:18:48   aliens like that you know their wacky [TS]

01:18:50   and their weird but they brought they [TS]

01:18:51   brought them into their family and they [TS]

01:18:53   said we accept you as your weird little [TS]

01:18:55   alien things and you can be part of our [TS]

01:18:56   toy group and that you know several [TS]

01:18:58   movies later turned out to be really [TS]

01:18:59   important thing that they did and it [TS]

01:19:01   turns out to be morning when they're [TS]

01:19:03   dropped and you know it's just you saved [TS]

01:19:04   our lives we are eternally grateful you [TS]

01:19:06   know that that moment that that great is [TS]

01:19:09   needed to be the payoff for the whole [TS]

01:19:13   thing you know they couldn't they could [TS]

01:19:15   have been grateful to something else [TS]

01:19:16   they had they had to they could have [TS]

01:19:18   just done it themselves they had to have [TS]

01:19:20   someone else kind of save them also the [TS]

01:19:23   whole the whole hand holding the circle [TS]

01:19:25   uh I think just solidifies how important [TS]

01:19:28   it is that all the toys stay together [TS]

01:19:30   and you've got the scene coming up where [TS]

01:19:32   it's possible once again that what he [TS]

01:19:34   might be separated from the rest of them [TS]

01:19:35   and I think that just sets that up i [TS]

01:19:38   mean that none that adds to your concern [TS]

01:19:40   that maybe he's going to college and [TS]

01:19:41   it's a little okay when you're shaking [TS]

01:19:44   just as this is not goodbye but then [TS]

01:19:45   that just makes it all the more poignant [TS]

01:19:47   when they end up together in the end and [TS]

01:19:49   and the movie is shot through with the [TS]

01:19:51   stages of grief to I mean you've got the [TS]

01:19:53   denial at the beginning of them saying [TS]

01:19:56   well we're still we're still in these [TS]

01:19:57   toys right and an anger because he was [TS]

01:20:00   gonna throw them out they're convinced [TS]

01:20:01   he's gonna throw them out and then the [TS]

01:20:03   bargaining to try and get to a better [TS]

01:20:05   part of the day care and depression [TS]

01:20:07   because they realize where they are and [TS]

01:20:09   and even you finally have the acceptance [TS]

01:20:11   at the end and then they're saved our [TS]

01:20:13   david has a lot of theories about this [TS]

01:20:15   movie I've thought a lot about this [TS]

01:20:17   movie I'm not sure necessarily this has [TS]

01:20:19   to be there i will say well I enjoyed it [TS]

01:20:21   personally I you know I could I could [TS]

01:20:24   see a movie without this scene i did [TS]

01:20:27   want to point out that i think this is [TS]

01:20:29   possibly the only scene I've ever [TS]

01:20:31   watched with one of my kids in the [TS]

01:20:33   theater where the kid was suffering [TS]

01:20:35   clear discomfort at what was happening [TS]

01:20:37   and you know we've watched and women [TS]

01:20:40   gone and seen any horror movies or [TS]

01:20:41   anything in the theater but we have [TS]

01:20:43   watched a lot of movies with intense [TS]

01:20:44   action and this is the only one where [TS]

01:20:47   I've ever actually had to kind of calm [TS]

01:20:49   down the child sitting next to me [TS]

01:20:52   because he was very concerned for what [TS]

01:20:56   was about to happen so the cloth saves [TS]

01:20:57   them and then once we get the last [TS]

01:20:59   little chunk of the movie which is the [TS]

01:21:01   they they go back to andy's I think this [TS]

01:21:04   is the single most important part of the [TS]

01:21:05   whole movie and and masterfully handle [TS]

01:21:08   which is that what he now has it good [TS]

01:21:10   you know what on top of it all [TS]

01:21:11   woody and the friends they've all made [TS]

01:21:13   their peace there happy for woody was [TS]

01:21:15   glad they're going to be together when [TS]

01:21:16   he gets in the Box what he looks through [TS]

01:21:18   those through the little Jessie hole and [TS]

01:21:19   sees the mom come in and she's losing it [TS]

01:21:22   because she wants to always be with him [TS]

01:21:24   and that's what makes him change his [TS]

01:21:26   mind [TS]

01:21:26   what does he write on that note we don't [TS]

01:21:28   know I thought I think that whole [TS]

01:21:30   sequence is just masterful yeah it's a [TS]

01:21:33   huge it so he makes a huge sacrifice [TS]

01:21:35   matter what could have been the life [TS]

01:21:37   that he always wanted to keep the gang [TS]

01:21:39   together but they do a very good job of [TS]

01:21:41   keeping the fact that he's making that [TS]

01:21:43   sacrifice a secret until the end because [TS]

01:21:45   holy later we see the shot of the [TS]

01:21:46   college box my car and we see the little [TS]

01:21:50   or alot he's been looking through [TS]

01:21:51   previously we don't see his eyes but we [TS]

01:21:53   kind of assume maybe he's in there [TS]

01:21:55   watching [TS]

01:21:56   Linda he takes it all the time he takes [TS]

01:21:57   all the toys out of the box to give the [TS]

01:21:58   Bonnie but does not take would be out so [TS]

01:22:01   we don't know that what he's still in [TS]

01:22:02   the box till she's playing with all the [TS]

01:22:03   toys then they have the little camera [TS]

01:22:05   moves over you see woody at the bottom [TS]

01:22:06   of the box and he's got a little bit of [TS]

01:22:08   trouble giving them away so that's the I [TS]

01:22:10   i love that he does he does he wants to [TS]

01:22:12   take him to college he is the we [TS]

01:22:15   mentioned this earlier he's the totem of [TS]

01:22:17   childhood right that that fingers from [TS]

01:22:19   Andy's perspective right he doesn't [TS]

01:22:21   really play with toys anymore he's going [TS]

01:22:24   to college but there still are things [TS]

01:22:27   that he's got that are the totems that [TS]

01:22:28   are the the the things that remind him [TS]

01:22:31   of his childhood that he's got an [TS]

01:22:32   emotional attachment to and he's not you [TS]

01:22:34   know the bottom line is he's not taking [TS]

01:22:35   what you to play with him he's taking [TS]

01:22:37   him just to sort of be present and if we [TS]

01:22:40   believe fundamentally the toys are meant [TS]

01:22:42   to be played with that's what makes them [TS]

01:22:43   happy then it you know but would he is [TS]

01:22:47   doing the right thing in fulfilling his [TS]

01:22:49   what he what he should be which is some [TS]

01:22:51   but some kids toy not in and he's [TS]

01:22:54   outgrown him and he doesn't play with [TS]

01:22:56   him anymore and take being a being on [TS]

01:22:59   your your dorm room shelf gathering dust [TS]

01:23:01   is not a future that that he should have [TS]

01:23:04   he did it by doing something I think [TS]

01:23:07   he's mostly never never done before [TS]

01:23:08   which is something he's defying the will [TS]

01:23:11   of and even as we said in that in the [TS]

01:23:12   first third of this he's all about being [TS]

01:23:14   the person to make sure everybody's in [TS]

01:23:16   line with doing whatever it is that [TS]

01:23:17   handy once but he makes this is this is [TS]

01:23:19   to change is the turn and the story at [TS]

01:23:21   this this character is that he decides [TS]

01:23:24   you know kind of by Fiat no i'm gonna [TS]

01:23:26   tell me to do this differently and and [TS]

01:23:29   that makes all the difference we do see [TS]

01:23:30   what he writes on the post-it note it is [TS]

01:23:32   thanks to reform the chatroom it's a [TS]

01:23:34   bonny so street address [TS]

01:23:35   that's what you can see it really well [TS]

01:23:37   26-second more which is exactly what was [TS]

01:23:40   on the earlier post it note that we saw [TS]

01:23:42   in her room and they got her address [TS]

01:23:44   meanwhile we see Andy to having a moment [TS]

01:23:47   of being a child again a little bit too [TS]

01:23:49   because as he's taking each of the toys [TS]

01:23:52   out of the box and he's handing them [TS]

01:23:53   over to Bonnie he's like happily kind of [TS]

01:23:54   pushing them her way and explaining [TS]

01:23:56   their little lives and how we used to [TS]

01:23:58   play with them and giving them to her [TS]

01:24:00   and then when he gets to woody and [TS]

01:24:02   Bonnie reaches for woody with like the [TS]

01:24:05   microbial oils he does he like pulls [TS]

01:24:07   back like it's mine [TS]

01:24:08   like as if he were a child reacting to [TS]

01:24:11   another child trying to grab his toy and [TS]

01:24:14   he has that like immediate really [TS]

01:24:16   emotional visceral reaction to her and [TS]

01:24:19   that is everything like it shows so like [TS]

01:24:23   the deep relationship that he had with [TS]

01:24:25   woody as his toy but then he takes that [TS]

01:24:28   moment and he's like you know what it is [TS]

01:24:30   like everyone it is is it is time that [TS]

01:24:32   he's weighing about that same thing [TS]

01:24:34   which is I'm not going to play with them [TS]

01:24:35   and she she's gonna give she's gonna [TS]

01:24:37   play with him the the scene where he [TS]

01:24:40   introduces every toy and explains how [TS]

01:24:41   they fit into the world is the scene [TS]

01:24:43   that destroys me utterly destroys me yet [TS]

01:24:45   because it's your goodbye to each of the [TS]

01:24:47   characters on this are crying now stop [TS]

01:24:50   that's the one that still gets me so the [TS]

01:24:52   thing about it and and the other the [TS]

01:24:53   other movies are like this too but but [TS]

01:24:55   this one dr dre mentioned this i think [TS]

01:24:57   when we talk about toy story 2 this is [TS]

01:24:59   that moment I I already see it in my [TS]

01:25:02   daughter you know who is 15 almost that [TS]

01:25:05   sometimes she is a kid and sometimes [TS]

01:25:08   she's an adult and she just kind of goes [TS]

01:25:10   back and forth a young adult they go [TS]

01:25:11   back and forth like it's all it's not [TS]

01:25:14   like one day they wake up and they're [TS]

01:25:15   not the other one and this is that [TS]

01:25:17   moment of like this is though this is [TS]

01:25:19   the the child who we knew as andy and [TS]

01:25:24   it's like it's not like and he doesn't [TS]

01:25:25   know and have affection for all these [TS]

01:25:27   toys he's just kind of moved on but but [TS]

01:25:30   and you see in a moment like he's about [TS]

01:25:31   to go off and go to college and be an [TS]

01:25:33   adult but it's not like he doesn't have [TS]

01:25:35   all of all that knowledge and all those [TS]

01:25:37   feelings inside and so he's passing it [TS]

01:25:39   on to her and uh yeah that gets me then [TS]

01:25:42   they play till I know right they all [TS]

01:25:44   play together on the lawn people on [TS]

01:25:46   playing with her but it is also [TS]

01:25:48   important that like we learned to love [TS]

01:25:50   these characters [TS]

01:25:51   I mean it becomes a funny joke when you [TS]

01:25:53   see buzz when he's not with what's the [TS]

01:25:56   word like we need me know when he's in [TS]

01:25:58   it being around a child Modi's get that [TS]

01:25:59   silly that ridiculous look on his face [TS]

01:26:01   and that becomes kind of funny because [TS]

01:26:02   you've seen so much of all these [TS]

01:26:03   characters personality like a vast [TS]

01:26:06   majority of what happens with these [TS]

01:26:07   characters in the movie is when they're [TS]

01:26:09   in that other world where they're being [TS]

01:26:10   the the animated characters who run [TS]

01:26:12   around and have a life but again another [TS]

01:26:14   important turn they are inanimate they [TS]

01:26:16   are just toys in his hand [TS]

01:26:19   he loves and he's narrating why he loves [TS]

01:26:22   them [TS]

01:26:23   I think that that's a huge part of it is [TS]

01:26:24   that he's telling he's telling their [TS]

01:26:26   story and and thats just crushes you and [TS]

01:26:29   the toys are aware it in that moment [TS]

01:26:31   that this is it this is the last time [TS]

01:26:33   and he's playing with me [TS]

01:26:34   yeah nice and goodbye and this is why he [TS]

01:26:37   loves me and you could [TS]

01:26:38   oh you love me huh yeah there it is [TS]

01:26:42   I feel like sometimes the the only way I [TS]

01:26:44   can get through this is thinking about [TS]

01:26:46   the short the party source rx1 where it [TS]

01:26:49   actually shows the toys kind of living [TS]

01:26:51   in Bonnie's house have you guys you know [TS]

01:26:53   and yeah yeah so that's the further [TS]

01:26:55   adventures it's like now great now now [TS]

01:26:57   we're in a new world where we're at [TS]

01:26:58   Bonnie's house with those characters [TS]

01:26:59   yeah I have to keep that in my mind like [TS]

01:27:01   they're happy they really like Bonnie [TS]

01:27:03   and body super nineties i have to keep [TS]

01:27:05   reminding myself that she's a good kid [TS]

01:27:07   she's gonna take really good care of [TS]

01:27:08   them it's such a good back bookend that [TS]

01:27:11   earlier scene where he just offhand [TS]

01:27:12   calls them junk but he doesn't really [TS]

01:27:14   mean it he's just being a moody teenager [TS]

01:27:17   no question I'm here we see what he [TS]

01:27:18   really thinks when he returns to the [TS]

01:27:20   child that still lives on inside him [TS]

01:27:22   even though he's growing up even when he [TS]

01:27:23   was calling them junk you could tell the [TS]

01:27:25   way he looked at them you know of course [TS]

01:27:26   but anyway yeah the kids are trying to [TS]

01:27:28   put that behind and even though and [TS]

01:27:30   these stories kind of its in its in the [TS]

01:27:32   background for a lot of the movie but [TS]

01:27:34   again you've got the stages of grief [TS]

01:27:36   there too and this is the acceptance and [TS]

01:27:38   this is why he couldn't make that [TS]

01:27:40   decision at the beginning of the movie [TS]

01:27:42   you had to get through all of those [TS]

01:27:43   levels to get to it [TS]

01:27:46   David will be using all flashes her on [TS]

01:27:48   those subject I love this Davis wrote my [TS]

01:27:51   thesis it's great excellent so after the [TS]

01:27:53   after he drives off down that perfect [TS]

01:27:56   street and the toys look up on the [TS]

01:27:57   camera pans up and it pans up to ask I [TS]

01:27:59   with you know the sky above the house [TS]

01:28:02   with clouds that are the exact shape of [TS]

01:28:04   the clouds and his bedroom I you know [TS]

01:28:05   exactly the so I like that I like that [TS]

01:28:10   they've got we know that they're in a [TS]

01:28:12   good place with Bonnie we like the [TS]

01:28:13   characters we already met our friends [TS]

01:28:16   have gotten there that's all great [TS]

01:28:17   there's a there's a final montage we we [TS]

01:28:20   see what's happening at the preschool [TS]

01:28:21   since since the cruel reign of lots o [TS]

01:28:24   has ended and everything seems seems [TS]

01:28:26   good i did have a thought that they must [TS]

01:28:28   have had some sort of Truth and [TS]

01:28:30   Reconciliation program at [TS]

01:28:32   school is it seems like there are a lot [TS]

01:28:34   of lots of collaborators who have been [TS]

01:28:36   welcomed back into society so they must [TS]

01:28:38   be very forgiving at the preschool is [TS]

01:28:40   one sometimes went argentina ya can give [TS]

01:28:44   that great speech over the dumpster [TS]

01:28:45   about how the the daycare could be cool [TS]

01:28:48   and groovy if it was running properly [TS]

01:28:49   and we see realization in the in the [TS]

01:28:52   enforcers eyes each of them and Barbie [TS]

01:28:55   to shave Barbies right there too with [TS]

01:28:57   her you know that was commissioned [TS]

01:28:58   message ready to to run this place when [TS]

01:29:01   they tagged out like the one-to-one toys [TS]

01:29:03   getting beat up by going together the [TS]

01:29:04   cheerleaders cheering him on a [TS]

01:29:06   caterpillar room you can do it [TS]

01:29:07   yeah that's good but again some of those [TS]

01:29:10   they're awfully forgiving about people [TS]

01:29:13   who committed crimes during the lot so [TS]

01:29:14   era his arms as well you know it's cool [TS]

01:29:16   and groovy man it's all cool and groovy [TS]

01:29:18   now you will include weekend right so [TS]

01:29:19   yea Ken came over to the other side so i [TS]

01:29:21   guess he's got you we got to forgive all [TS]

01:29:23   of them [TS]

01:29:23   it's a communist now and Barbie so does [TS]

01:29:26   glitter talks back together so it's okay [TS]

01:29:28   i'm really glad we get that scene [TS]

01:29:30   because I i always i thought it was one [TS]

01:29:33   little weird in the first place that [TS]

01:29:35   that Andy donates all of his toys to [TS]

01:29:38   Bonnie because it's not like he really [TS]

01:29:41   knows her and it's she's not [TS]

01:29:42   particularly in need she has plenty of [TS]

01:29:44   toys and it seems kind of inevitable [TS]

01:29:46   that at some point mom's gonna snag at [TS]

01:29:48   least half of these and take them right [TS]

01:29:51   back to the daycare so you know it's [TS]

01:29:53   probably a good thing that that that [TS]

01:29:56   little bit is at the end of the ones we [TS]

01:29:58   know ken and barbie is still there but [TS]

01:29:59   right even if some of our friends get [TS]

01:30:01   get shunted off to the the preschool [TS]

01:30:03   it's not it's not bad anymore it's not [TS]

01:30:05   it's not a prison anymore and they all [TS]

01:30:07   eventually end up there for right we [TS]

01:30:08   know right they might even a monkey's [TS]

01:30:10   cooler now he's not all high-strung [TS]

01:30:11   looking with his wife is rocking out man [TS]

01:30:14   is going to classes on the circle [TS]

01:30:16   clapping cymbals together just inches [TS]

01:30:18   away and lots o was just no good man [TS]

01:30:21   lots of ruined everything that bear that [TS]

01:30:24   strawberry-scented bear stinking bare [TS]

01:30:26   and now he's strapped to the front of a [TS]

01:30:27   trash truck i love that he takes his [TS]

01:30:29   final ride on the front of the the [TS]

01:30:31   garbage truck yes said or whoever I [TS]

01:30:34   don't know garbage man arbys not said [TS]

01:30:36   now that's a garbage man well fines [TS]

01:30:38   fines a says I had a diet doll like this [TS]

01:30:41   when I was a kid and they nailed him to [TS]

01:30:43   the front all berries he smells it [TS]

01:30:45   yeah yeah sure you're gonna be kind of [TS]

01:30:46   perfect if it was the sid garbage man [TS]

01:30:48   though because it's just the kind of [TS]

01:30:50   thing you used to do so what do you all [TS]

01:30:52   think about toy story 3 and how it fits [TS]

01:30:54   with it with the first two because I i [TS]

01:30:55   think what when I was introducing this [TS]

01:30:57   episode I mean this is really the thing [TS]

01:30:59   is late sequels are very hard to pull [TS]

01:31:02   off and it's easier in animation because [TS]

01:31:03   you don't have aging actors that you [TS]

01:31:05   have to explain away and all that but [TS]

01:31:07   they do take a time jump and they do get [TS]

01:31:09   back into it i remember as steve has set [TS]

01:31:11   a couple of times when they announce [TS]

01:31:12   this movie everybody was like really [TS]

01:31:14   really you're going back to the toy [TS]

01:31:16   story well again after after a decade [TS]

01:31:18   and you know I it turned out that [TS]

01:31:21   generally the consensus is it's great [TS]

01:31:23   like they didn't they did it well who [TS]

01:31:26   who would have thought that they would [TS]

01:31:27   have done another great toy story movie [TS]

01:31:29   after all that time but they they had it [TS]

01:31:31   in them and they did it so everybody [TS]

01:31:33   else you know do you where do you where [TS]

01:31:35   you slot this one [TS]

01:31:36   like I said I think this is it is [TS]

01:31:37   impressive as hell that they managed to [TS]

01:31:39   make not only another great toy story [TS]

01:31:43   movie but they also managed to pull off [TS]

01:31:46   the kind of point thing that makes your [TS]

01:31:47   ball again in the same universe to an [TS]

01:31:51   even greater extent I think to me i [TS]

01:31:54   don't think this quite reaches the level [TS]

01:31:56   of toy story 2 i'm not sure how it's [TS]

01:31:59   just with Toy Story one and the reason [TS]

01:32:01   for that is I think this maybe just [TS]

01:32:05   maybe a little bit too heavy you know [TS]

01:32:08   you got toys story one which is mostly a [TS]

01:32:10   lot of gags an adventure story with a [TS]

01:32:12   little bit of heart [TS]

01:32:13   toy story 2 I think just about perfectly [TS]

01:32:16   balances the sort of point heart bits [TS]

01:32:18   and also the sort of fun wacky nature of [TS]

01:32:22   the toy store universe and this the tone [TS]

01:32:25   is just a little too dark and the [TS]

01:32:27   there's a little bit too much of the [TS]

01:32:30   sadness i think and in i guess you know [TS]

01:32:33   it makes a reasonable kind of continuing [TS]

01:32:35   with the other films but for me I just I [TS]

01:32:38   don't enjoy it quite to the same level [TS]

01:32:40   and I don't think it reaches the kind of [TS]

01:32:42   balance that toy story 2 does for me [TS]

01:32:45   obviously you know the animations much [TS]

01:32:47   much better in this than either of the [TS]

01:32:49   other two so that's a big step forward [TS]

01:32:52   but I think as a film as a whole I think [TS]

01:32:54   to gets the nod for me and maybe it [TS]

01:32:56   maybe a tie between three and one [TS]

01:32:58   I think this is the first of all I like [TS]

01:33:00   the fact that all three toy story films [TS]

01:33:01   are different like they're not all the [TS]

01:33:03   same tone that all the same structure [TS]

01:33:05   that they did they did three different [TS]

01:33:06   movies I think toy story 3 is by far the [TS]

01:33:10   most sophisticated of them in all [TS]

01:33:12   aspects investigated moviemaking writing [TS]

01:33:15   plotting animation everything about it [TS]

01:33:17   shows you know they've you know use all [TS]

01:33:19   their skills and all their powers to to [TS]

01:33:22   make this amazing movie showing that the [TS]

01:33:25   these you know that they're better now [TS]

01:33:26   than they were they made two and one at [TS]

01:33:28   making movies in all aspects right [TS]

01:33:30   all that said I think to not distract [TS]

01:33:34   that the best balance for me between [TS]

01:33:36   like the heavy stuff forever was just [TS]

01:33:38   like the three starts to get into the [TS]

01:33:42   realm of pics are making everything [TS]

01:33:45   making it sounds bad like making [TS]

01:33:48   everything really good like don't you [TS]

01:33:49   want everything to be really good but [TS]

01:33:50   somehow we kind of like love the movies [TS]

01:33:53   that uh that despite their flaws and toy [TS]

01:33:57   story 3 doesn't really have that many [TS]

01:33:59   flaws and I feel like it does have a lot [TS]

01:34:01   packed into it like once you have all [TS]

01:34:02   those skills and powers and you can make [TS]

01:34:04   a much more sophisticated movie it's [TS]

01:34:06   almost unfair so we're going to punish [TS]

01:34:07   you for being so much better than your [TS]

01:34:09   before and making this amazing movie and [TS]

01:34:11   a degree of difficulty is higher as you [TS]

01:34:12   pointed out for a third sequel or [TS]

01:34:14   whatever so I you know I think probably [TS]

01:34:17   three is a better movie than one and two [TS]

01:34:20   but to still kind of holds the the place [TS]

01:34:23   of honor for me personally and I can see [TS]

01:34:25   totally see that varying or whatever its [TS]

01:34:28   again you know that favorite verses best [TS]

01:34:30   like toy story 3 is an amazing [TS]

01:34:32   achievement in so many ways but 22 just [TS]

01:34:35   feels like i don't have to do too is [TS]

01:34:37   elevated in my mind and one definitely [TS]

01:34:40   has the look this is the first time [TS]

01:34:42   we're doing this is an amazing that [TS]

01:34:43   we're doing it all one is not as good a [TS]

01:34:45   movie has two or three but again that's [TS]

01:34:47   best vs. favor don't know it's very very [TS]

01:34:49   difficult to rank them because they are [TS]

01:34:50   so different so mostly when I think of [TS]

01:34:52   these movies I just appreciate like i [TS]

01:34:54   said before they made three good movies [TS]

01:34:57   they made three great movies right and [TS]

01:34:58   so everything else aside in this [TS]

01:35:00   particular series since we haven't seen [TS]

01:35:02   four yet every one of the movies is a [TS]

01:35:05   great movie which is an amazing [TS]

01:35:06   achievement and like if if you were [TS]

01:35:08   involved in any way with Toy Story [TS]

01:35:10   franchise [TS]

01:35:11   you know you can retire happy and so I [TS]

01:35:13   guess what we made three great movies [TS]

01:35:14   and that is really hard to do it almost [TS]

01:35:16   never been done before I i mean i love [TS]

01:35:18   them in order at I mean the first one is [TS]

01:35:22   delightful [TS]

01:35:24   you know it's just it's a fun story the [TS]

01:35:27   second one [TS]

01:35:28   yeah it's it's it's a little bit more it [TS]

01:35:32   has more depth as you know we we get to [TS]

01:35:34   grow with the characters i love the [TS]

01:35:36   third one most of all because it's it's [TS]

01:35:39   kinda like if the first one is the [TS]

01:35:40   theory of gravity and go okay that's [TS]

01:35:42   kind of cool and the second one now [TS]

01:35:44   you've got quantum physics and the third [TS]

01:35:46   one is like superstring Theory where you [TS]

01:35:48   have like you know 37 dimensions for you [TS]

01:35:50   once you just thought we had four right [TS]

01:35:53   i love that that it had all that [TS]

01:35:55   ambition and all the silliness and all [TS]

01:35:58   the plotting and they nailed it right [TS]

01:36:01   they didn't it wasn't like all they [TS]

01:36:04   tried to do so much more and and you [TS]

01:36:07   know good for them for trying [TS]

01:36:08   they did it they achieved it and and so [TS]

01:36:12   it's it's a film that you know i watched [TS]

01:36:14   i watch the five-year-old who and and I [TS]

01:36:17   realize it's his first time in the [TS]

01:36:18   theater was seeing that and he loved the [TS]

01:36:21   first to you know we had them on DVD and [TS]

01:36:24   and he was just entranced for the whole [TS]

01:36:26   thing and yet there it was never and [TS]

01:36:30   it's not like Pixar does this right [TS]

01:36:32   others have you know a hair jokes for [TS]

01:36:34   adults and here's stuff for the kids and [TS]

01:36:36   you know pixar does a good job of [TS]

01:36:38   balancing all that anyway but this was a [TS]

01:36:40   film I could enjoy without having a [TS]

01:36:42   child in the room right this is a movie [TS]

01:36:45   i would choose to watch I don't always [TS]

01:36:46   watch the other two and so the it [TS]

01:36:49   disengages me on on so many levels I [TS]

01:36:52   just I love it [TS]

01:36:54   way beyond the other two and i love the [TS]

01:36:56   other two don't get me wrong so [TS]

01:36:58   superstring theory stages of grief and [TS]

01:37:01   the divine comedy again I think you've [TS]

01:37:04   gotta there's a just read the mount [TS]

01:37:06   monograph by tale or about toys story [TS]

01:37:09   three as as much as I love all the other [TS]

01:37:11   picture films and even later picture [TS]

01:37:12   films this one I think might be the best [TS]

01:37:16   thing that ever done stuff where you [TS]

01:37:17   where you put this one [TS]

01:37:19   well how's this is it [TS]

01:37:20   kind of a close second favorite too for [TS]

01:37:23   me I was gonna say to is my favorite but [TS]

01:37:25   if it could this would be my favorite [TS]

01:37:27   414 all the crying I it does make me [TS]

01:37:30   very upset especially looking at my [TS]

01:37:32   little boy and I can't help but you know [TS]

01:37:35   just did the anticipation of a fearing [TS]

01:37:39   that loss of him growing up you know [TS]

01:37:43   like that really gets me but I'm gonna [TS]

01:37:45   cry now [TS]

01:37:46   um but I don't know it is just so much [TS]

01:37:51   better the jokes are better that I just [TS]

01:37:54   like the characters a lot better i love [TS]

01:37:56   Barbie in this i love that she's not [TS]

01:37:58   like a super made up you know like [TS]

01:38:01   glamour Barbie and so I I think that's [TS]

01:38:04   great yeah it's just it's so close and [TS]

01:38:07   my son loves this one I think this was [TS]

01:38:09   his favorite he sits the longest through [TS]

01:38:11   this one of his little friend always [TS]

01:38:12   request this 12 when she's over so it i [TS]

01:38:15   guess that that kind of pulls my [TS]

01:38:17   heartstrings a little bit there too and [TS]

01:38:19   that he really likes it so man is just [TS]

01:38:21   waffling back and forth between two and [TS]

01:38:23   this one for me so it's it's right up [TS]

01:38:24   there it's great very difficult because [TS]

01:38:28   i think it was John over said that you [TS]

01:38:30   know enjoying that they're very [TS]

01:38:32   different films they really are and I I [TS]

01:38:35   like that a lot [TS]

01:38:36   i I'm just sitting here trying to come [TS]

01:38:38   up with something intelligent to support [TS]

01:38:40   my incredibly just emotional gut [TS]

01:38:43   reaction where I feel like this one was [TS]

01:38:47   an epic right and yeah I i think was a [TS]

01:38:50   very successful epic i think i'm [TS]

01:38:54   thinking like toy story 2 more and the [TS]

01:38:57   guy do I can really really lame the [TS]

01:38:59   closest i can think of is like Toy Story [TS]

01:39:01   one is beatles for sale [TS]

01:39:03   toy story 2 is rubber sole and this is [TS]

01:39:06   revolver and I know revolver is the best [TS]

01:39:09   beatles album forget all sergeant pepper [TS]

01:39:10   with either that's not the best it feels [TS]

01:39:13   up revolvers the best time but there's [TS]

01:39:14   something special about rubber soul [TS]

01:39:17   because you you back into the beater [TS]

01:39:20   feels for sale and they are they put up [TS]

01:39:22   three albums in a year they are totally [TS]

01:39:24   beat up and but that was still a [TS]

01:39:25   transformative album where you first [TS]

01:39:27   really feel them becoming songwriters [TS]

01:39:29   but rubber soul is where they turn a [TS]

01:39:31   corner and did something that seemed [TS]

01:39:33   possible and then you know I think [TS]

01:39:35   revolver is the is a combination of that [TS]

01:39:38   in a lot of ways and that probably the [TS]

01:39:39   beatles best album this is probably the [TS]

01:39:41   best toy story movie but there's still a [TS]

01:39:43   part of me that likes the scale the [TS]

01:39:46   scope and the execution of toy story 2 a [TS]

01:39:48   little better i don't know it's [TS]

01:39:51   difficult I guess if I had to put on [TS]

01:39:52   some kind of a chart like toy story 3 [TS]

01:39:54   and 2 would be up here and like the 90th [TS]

01:39:56   percentile and I story one you know [TS]

01:39:59   technical stuff notwithstanding would be [TS]

01:40:00   in the 70's to 80's this whole parts of [TS]

01:40:02   that movie I just think aren't in [TS]

01:40:04   retrospect not nearly as good as they [TS]

01:40:05   were at the time but like for what if [TS]

01:40:07   you grade them you know the way they do [TS]

01:40:09   I like box office mojo will be based on [TS]

01:40:12   like an inflation-adjusted if you do [TS]

01:40:13   technically inflation-adjusted numbers i [TS]

01:40:16   still think toy story 2 is arguably the [TS]

01:40:20   most transcendent but i love this movie [TS]

01:40:22   and I loved it [TS]

01:40:23   yeah I i can't i can't choose i think [TS]

01:40:25   that everybody said exactly they all [TS]

01:40:26   have things going for them toys route [TS]

01:40:28   one was first and they were really [TS]

01:40:30   trying to figure out how to do this [TS]

01:40:32   thing and toy story 2 was them having [TS]

01:40:35   being triumphant and being at the top of [TS]

01:40:38   their game and confident what they're [TS]

01:40:39   doing and toy story 3 you know you're [TS]

01:40:41   talking about more than a decade later [TS]

01:40:42   where things have advanced so much that [TS]

01:40:45   they have way more paints on you know in [TS]

01:40:49   their palate then they had for toy story [TS]

01:40:51   2 and they want to show them off and so [TS]

01:40:53   they're very food i think very different [TS]

01:40:55   movies from different stages in the life [TS]

01:40:57   of Pixar and all good all very good so [TS]

01:40:59   what's your pic tho you gotta pick one [TS]

01:41:01   pick one think it forget about [TS]

01:41:02   inflation-adjusted adjusted technology [TS]

01:41:05   inflation-adjusted numbers if I had to [TS]

01:41:06   pick with just one it would probably be [TS]

01:41:08   toy story 2 but I don't want to pick so [TS]

01:41:10   I'm there that i picked without picking [TS]

01:41:12   you know i think i am going to be swayed [TS]

01:41:14   toy story three is better [TS]

01:41:15   alright I like about like you like a [TS]

01:41:18   good night's movie that's creating [TS]

01:41:20   watching and I gotta go for it yeah it's [TS]

01:41:23   not a heist but it's like an escape you [TS]

01:41:24   know they synchronize they work together [TS]

01:41:26   i like the montages i love it yeah its [TS]

01:41:28   mission impossible i want to put a [TS]

01:41:29   recommendation for something of [TS]

01:41:31   everybody here almost really knows about [TS]

01:41:32   we've talked about it before I try to [TS]

01:41:33   mention it again just a source of pure [TS]

01:41:37   delight there are and think at this [TS]

01:41:38   point to collections of pixar shorts you [TS]

01:41:40   can get on itunes and they are just [TS]

01:41:43   wonderful going back all you know pretty [TS]

01:41:45   much all the way back to like shorts [TS]

01:41:47   that are [TS]

01:41:47   very very technically ambitious for the [TS]

01:41:50   nineteen eighties all the way up to [TS]

01:41:51   fairly recent ones those two volumes of [TS]

01:41:54   pixar shorts are a lot of fun and [TS]

01:41:56   there's two least two really delightful [TS]

01:41:58   Toy Story shorts on there's one called [TS]

01:42:00   Hawaiian vacation that's adorable but i [TS]

01:42:02   love the small fry and small fries [TS]

01:42:06   basically buzz gets lost at a at a [TS]

01:42:09   chicken fast-food restaurant and gets [TS]

01:42:11   replaced by a toy like a toy of a toy [TS]

01:42:13   from the restaurant is amazing that a [TS]

01:42:15   fright [TS]

01:42:15   mhm it's in total delight now seek out [TS]

01:42:19   the toys for shorts and seek out the one [TS]

01:42:21   that comes after toy story 3 where you [TS]

01:42:24   get to feel like happy that your friends [TS]

01:42:26   are doing fine and bodies room and [TS]

01:42:28   they're having little wacky hijinks in [TS]

01:42:31   Bonnie's room which are great it's a [TS]

01:42:33   great short but also it just is a nice [TS]

01:42:34   emotional continuation of toy story 3 [TS]

01:42:37   where it's good to see them having a one [TS]

01:42:39   good they've done 30 minute specials for [TS]

01:42:41   ABC yeah actually that that's that's [TS]

01:42:43   also why was i I was mean to say is that [TS]

01:42:46   they did they do to half hour specials [TS]

01:42:48   yeah they did the halloween one and the [TS]

01:42:50   toy story that time forgot yes which is [TS]

01:42:52   a great one [TS]

01:42:53   I love that one lots and lots of good [TS]

01:42:55   stuff so so there's there's room they're [TS]

01:42:57   all right I'm gonna wrap it up i want to [TS]

01:43:00   thank my guests for being here talking [TS]

01:43:02   about toy story 3 what Pixar movie will [TS]

01:43:04   we cover next I don't honestly know [TS]

01:43:05   we'll deal with that in 2017 i think but [TS]

01:43:08   i want to thank my guests for for [TS]

01:43:11   wrapping up the Toy Story franchise or [TS]

01:43:13   wait until toy story 4 comes out but [TS]

01:43:14   probably not Marlon man thank you so [TS]

01:43:46   4 I think we should all take the heart [TS]

01:43:47   the important thing that we learned [TS]

01:43:48   about the toys in this movie which is [TS]

01:43:51   they live they die they live again [TS]

01:43:54   witness me so until until next time I [TS]
