10: Driving To Ohio

00:00:00   all kidding aside we should probably get [TS]

00:00:01   all that crap where do we want to start [TS]

00:00:02   that was the star [TS]

00:00:04   damn it i was hoping not alright so [TS]

00:00:07   let's go with oldest first let's talk [TS]

00:00:10   about the laferrari John sure [TS]

00:00:13   cod that's what do we think about that [TS]

00:00:17   name [TS]

00:00:18   it's terrible so there are we supposed [TS]

00:00:20   to call it the ferrari laferrari no I [TS]

00:00:24   think it's just lost ferrari now why is [TS]

00:00:28   it bad why do we not like that name [TS]

00:00:30   it's redundant yes it's not really [TS]

00:00:33   redundant [TS]

00:00:35   i mean i-i think the reason the reason I [TS]

00:00:37   don't like it is because I guess we're [TS]

00:00:39   kind of used two cars having either [TS]

00:00:42   names like after cities in italy or at [TS]

00:00:45   least Italian words to sound exotic no i [TS]

00:00:47   mean like maranello or whatever [TS]

00:00:49   testarossa yeah right yeah or having [TS]

00:00:53   kind of a computer nerd e tekky macho [TS]

00:00:59   designations like f40 you know and the [TS]

00:01:04   rumor was this is going to be f70 where [TS]

00:01:07   they have 15 everything was good it was [TS]

00:01:08   the end zone which fine whatever you [TS]

00:01:10   know that founder of the company name [TS]

00:01:12   car after that's fine [TS]

00:01:14   this is going to be f70 but no not the [TS]

00:01:17   f70 we get lost ferrari which there's [TS]

00:01:21   something about it like maybe an Italian [TS]

00:01:24   that sounds so weird you're saying it's [TS]

00:01:25   this is the Ferrari or whatever because [TS]

00:01:27   it is the Ferrari at this point I'm [TS]

00:01:29   anyway LOL eventually it won't be but uh [TS]

00:01:31   I don't know I it's not like a wee level [TS]

00:01:35   naming disaster but I'm [TS]

00:01:39   middle-of-the-road on it I kind of see [TS]

00:01:41   that having like it a name for like like [TS]

00:01:43   one name like Madonna kinda it has a [TS]

00:01:45   little bit as a little bit of cash eh [TS]

00:01:47   alright well anyone has due to their [TS]

00:01:50   other models like you have you have left [TS]

00:01:53   Ferrari and you have all the other [TS]

00:01:54   Ferraris yeah yeah whatever he may [TS]

00:01:57   already named literary California so [TS]

00:01:59   there-there gaming has been yeah yeah [TS]

00:02:02   it's just it's and like I i just looked [TS]

00:02:04   at a handful of news articles about to [TS]

00:02:06   see and and almost all of them are [TS]

00:02:07   saying the ferrari laferrari which is [TS]

00:02:11   just ridiculous but that's going to [TS]

00:02:12   happen all the time [TS]

00:02:13   like you know you have to admit when [TS]

00:02:15   you're when you're picking like a cool [TS]

00:02:16   new name for something you have to [TS]

00:02:18   imagine how it's going to be used and [TS]

00:02:21   when you're doing something a little bit [TS]

00:02:23   unconventional like calling the new [TS]

00:02:27   model of ferrari laferrari you have to [TS]

00:02:30   expect that a whole lot of the press and [TS]

00:02:33   a whole lot of people are going to call [TS]

00:02:35   it the ferrari laferrari did not not use [TS]

00:02:38   it the way you probably intended the [TS]

00:02:39   name to be used and just based on that [TS]

00:02:42   alone I think that should probably tell [TS]

00:02:44   you maybe we shouldn't use this name [TS]

00:02:46   well they don't say the Ferrari let the [TS]

00:02:48   first of all offer our is one word so [TS]

00:02:50   that's good if it's a space / Morrison [TS]

00:02:52   second like it in Ferraris own you know [TS]

00:02:54   English copy it says that the laferrari [TS]

00:02:56   blah blah so it's got a double on it i'm [TS]

00:02:59   assuming the time they don't double it i [TS]

00:03:01   don't know but the car itself is what [TS]

00:03:05   everybody expected i mean it's been the [TS]

00:03:07   story itself is posting youtube videos [TS]

00:03:09   of like a disguised you know testing [TS]

00:03:12   mule type of thing where they got the [TS]

00:03:14   black paint over it and the fake body [TS]

00:03:16   panels and stuff it's kind of weird to [TS]

00:03:18   for the carmaker to be posting its own [TS]

00:03:21   disguised car running around cuz i don't [TS]

00:03:22   think that shows the car in the best [TS]

00:03:24   light I mean even in their official [TS]

00:03:25   website they have something showing [TS]

00:03:27   listen to the engine sound and i have a [TS]

00:03:28   video of the disguised car running [TS]

00:03:30   around the track don't want to see this [TS]

00:03:32   guy's car because it's like [TS]

00:03:33   intentionally made to look ugly and has [TS]

00:03:34   weird things sticking out of it and [TS]

00:03:36   that's not a good idea but anyway it's [TS]

00:03:39   you know mid-engine carbon fiber [TS]

00:03:42   supercar thing with a hybrid powertrain [TS]

00:03:46   which is the supercar fat of the this [TS]

00:03:48   generation [TS]

00:03:50   I don't mean a lot of people angry about [TS]

00:03:54   it thinking that it was some sort of [TS]

00:03:56   ploy [TS]

00:03:57   I guess these are people who don't [TS]

00:03:59   follow the car industry think it was [TS]

00:04:00   some sort of ploy for like to get the [TS]

00:04:03   ego people for like you know you want to [TS]

00:04:06   think that your green and eco-friendly [TS]

00:04:07   and an environmentally-friendly now [TS]

00:04:09   because you put this hybrid thing you're [TS]

00:04:10   super car [TS]

00:04:11   I can't imagine anybody who knows [TS]

00:04:13   anything about Ferrari or the supercar [TS]

00:04:16   market or anything thinking that because [TS]

00:04:18   since it's so clearly not the reason [TS]

00:04:20   like no one is going to be fooled into [TS]

00:04:22   thinking what how big is this engine [TS]

00:04:25   I'm looking for the displacement [TS]

00:04:26   well whatever it is it 800 horsepower [TS]

00:04:28   v12 it's like all but its fuel efficient [TS]

00:04:31   because it has a hot it's a hybrid gonna [TS]

00:04:34   not something i've been at least one [TS]

00:04:35   person will think the head it's 66 . 3 [TS]

00:04:38   liters [TS]

00:04:39   yeah so this is the second last and all [TS]

00:04:41   the engine you could fit maybe a few [TS]

00:04:43   ground up my engine you could fit inside [TS]

00:04:44   the displacement of the dungeon problem [TS]

00:04:46   you know the reason like Porsches doing [TS]

00:04:50   with their 919 spider and everything [TS]

00:04:54   like everyone's anything because it [TS]

00:04:56   makes the car go faster and the [TS]

00:04:59   interesting thing about hypercars i [TS]

00:05:00   think is a lot of people asking us to [TS]

00:05:02   talk about f1 which i personally know [TS]

00:05:03   nothing about but I do know that in for [TS]

00:05:07   various reasons f1 has a whole bunch of [TS]

00:05:08   rules and restrictions on what you can [TS]

00:05:10   put in the cars there is no such [TS]

00:05:12   restriction on a car that you just sell [TS]

00:05:15   to billionaires so they can do things in [TS]

00:05:18   their top-of-the-line supercar that they [TS]

00:05:21   can't do in their f1 car because of [TS]

00:05:22   various protection and vice versa [TS]

00:05:24   obviously the safety things that you [TS]

00:05:25   have to do for real cars that you don't [TS]

00:05:26   do with f1 cars but as far as I'm aware [TS]

00:05:29   i don't know i shouldn't even venture a [TS]

00:05:32   guess but I would imagine that hybrid [TS]

00:05:35   powertrains are not illegal in f1 anyone [TS]

00:05:38   know anyone to google that and give me [TS]

00:05:40   something on follow-up i actually did a [TS]

00:05:41   little bit of looking around right [TS]

00:05:43   before the show a lot of people like he [TS]

00:05:45   said have been asking us to talk about [TS]

00:05:47   f1 because on paper f1 is the perfect [TS]

00:05:50   meld of engineering and cars yet i've [TS]

00:05:54   tried a couple of times not very [TS]

00:05:56   seriously to get into it and i could not [TS]

00:05:58   grasp it at all in the sense that i [TS]

00:06:00   found it willfully boring and it's [TS]

00:06:02   always on if you're American in the [TS]

00:06:04   middle of the night and it's just not [TS]

00:06:06   approachable [TS]

00:06:07   I don't like Nascar I think as far as [TS]

00:06:09   ridiculous I don't follow any kind of [TS]

00:06:11   motor racing and I know that probably [TS]

00:06:13   disappoint anyone who wasn't born and [TS]

00:06:15   bred in america that being said the [TS]

00:06:17   curse system ke RS which is kinetic [TS]

00:06:20   energy recovery system which is the kind [TS]

00:06:22   of hybrid this is some teams in f1 [TS]

00:06:25   either did or do you use it as far as i [TS]

00:06:27   understand and in fact i was looking [TS]

00:06:29   earlier and apparently they're [TS]

00:06:31   increasing the possible output of the [TS]

00:06:33   current system for next season two like [TS]

00:06:35   220 horsepower something that I have to [TS]

00:06:37   find that again see [TS]

00:06:38   are allowed to use batteries in your f1 [TS]

00:06:39   car well it's not batteries it's [TS]

00:06:41   actually a flywheel that's the [TS]

00:06:42   interesting bit but this one has [TS]

00:06:44   batteries [TS]

00:06:45   I think you're right yeah i'm looking at [TS]

00:06:47   the page like this that you know that [TS]

00:06:48   the laferrari has a battery pack not a [TS]

00:06:52   big battery pack but a battery pack and [TS]

00:06:53   it does use you know the kinetic energy [TS]

00:06:56   recovery like when you're turning and [TS]

00:06:57   stuff like that to take access to work [TS]

00:06:59   for the wheels and of course [TS]

00:06:59   regenerative braking the whole nine [TS]

00:07:01   yards but there's also a battery pack [TS]

00:07:02   right so as per wikipedia as of 2014 [TS]

00:07:05   power capacity of the curves units will [TS]

00:07:06   increase from 60 kilowatts or 80 [TS]

00:07:08   horsepower 220 kilowatts does anyone [TS]

00:07:11   really use kilowatts 260 horsepower [TS]

00:07:12   there will be no this will be to balance [TS]

00:07:15   the sports move from a two and a half [TS]

00:07:17   liter v8 21 and a half liter v6 got [TS]

00:07:19   that's time [TS]

00:07:20   yeah well I mean those cars weigh like [TS]

00:07:22   you know 20 pounds i don't know they [TS]

00:07:24   have it there under 2,000 pounds right [TS]

00:07:26   that I don't know but I would assume so [TS]

00:07:27   yeah I mean so this district that's the [TS]

00:07:29   thing about the laferrari is there their [TS]

00:07:31   design Golden State design goal with a [TS]

00:07:34   people talking about what they didn't [TS]

00:07:35   they don't say as much but basically [TS]

00:07:37   when you add you know this hybrid [TS]

00:07:40   powertrain especially when you add those [TS]

00:07:41   battery packs that adds weight to a car [TS]

00:07:43   and you want the way to be down so their [TS]

00:07:44   goal was to you know can we add these [TS]

00:07:46   the these this hybrid powertrain which [TS]

00:07:48   gives us you know great low end torque [TS]

00:07:50   and lots of other positive [TS]

00:07:51   characteristics without making the car [TS]

00:07:54   porker because you know that the Tesla [TS]

00:07:56   Model S is a tremendously happy car [TS]

00:07:58   probably twice as much as this laferrari [TS]

00:08:00   right now so you can't just stop with [TS]

00:08:02   batteries will destroy performance [TS]

00:08:03   they're basically trying to balance how [TS]

00:08:05   big can we make the battery pack until [TS]

00:08:07   the point where the extra torque we get [TS]

00:08:08   from the battery extra power away from [TS]

00:08:10   that battery pack is not overcome by the [TS]

00:08:13   way to of the pack itself so they kept [TS]

00:08:15   trying to balance it if we do you know [TS]

00:08:16   if you make it too big just you're [TS]

00:08:18   making your hard works if you make it [TS]

00:08:19   too small you're not doing enough to [TS]

00:08:20   make it better is there trying to sort [TS]

00:08:22   of balance that equation there and the [TS]

00:08:25   first thing I did when I pulled up this [TS]

00:08:27   car on mine it was announced that the [TS]

00:08:28   auto show and I went to the laferrari [TS]

00:08:30   com was I went to the technical specs [TS]

00:08:33   thing I wanted to see what is the weight [TS]

00:08:34   how much does this car way and I don't [TS]

00:08:37   think that you listed the weight at all [TS]

00:08:38   i'm looking at the site now I think it's [TS]

00:08:40   still not listed [TS]

00:08:42   let's see tech specs I anyway I know I [TS]

00:08:48   know on the very first day there was no [TS]

00:08:50   wait listed for the thing and that is [TS]

00:08:53   not reassuring to me they talked a lot [TS]

00:08:55   about how they saved a lot of weight and [TS]

00:08:57   other aspects of the carbon i'm assuming [TS]

00:08:58   it's all making up for the for the [TS]

00:09:03   battery pack and they didn't of course [TS]

00:09:04   talk about how it lapse their test track [TS]

00:09:06   five seconds faster than their previous [TS]

00:09:07   car and all the other good things about [TS]

00:09:09   it but wait i think still is a concern [TS]

00:09:12   so this is kind of like a supercar [TS]

00:09:14   transitional phase i don't know if [TS]

00:09:16   they're transitioning entire to electric [TS]

00:09:18   or whatever but like this this system [TS]

00:09:20   where you have to power trains where [TS]

00:09:22   you've got your big gigantic good [TS]

00:09:24   old-fashioned engine incredibly high [TS]

00:09:25   revving very powerful [TS]

00:09:27   all good things right and also a little [TS]

00:09:29   bit of an electric motor attached in [TS]

00:09:31   there you don't want to have to [TS]

00:09:34   powertrains like that the model s the [TS]

00:09:37   design of big battery pack 1 engine for [TS]

00:09:41   each wheel no gear is no nothing that is [TS]

00:09:45   very simple and direct it's just obvious [TS]

00:09:46   that that design is never gonna work for [TS]

00:09:49   supercar because you're super kinds of [TS]

00:09:50   being 5,000 pounds that's that's a [TS]

00:09:53   non-starter unless you're the bugatti [TS]

00:09:54   veyron over the hell that thing weighs [TS]

00:09:55   because I knew you know I have what is [TS]

00:09:59   that 16-cylinder engine in there [TS]

00:10:01   yeah that's yeah that's a whole other [TS]

00:10:02   issue and it's a lot turbo and it's 1100 [TS]

00:10:07   power I mean at some point we can [TS]

00:10:09   overcome wait this is good business [TS]

00:10:10   getting up to it so you've got this is [TS]

00:10:12   what is it to 700 ish think 750 ish so [TS]

00:10:16   963 horsepower is there they're claiming [TS]

00:10:19   it was looking at torque then that's [TS]

00:10:22   that that's their claim that total [TS]

00:10:24   horsepower with the you know with [TS]

00:10:26   everything combined and made under [TS]

00:10:27   horsepower engine + 250 260 34 you know [TS]

00:10:31   I in a car that presumably does not [TS]

00:10:35   weigh a tremendous amount more than the [TS]

00:10:37   last car and you know that the purpose [TS]

00:10:39   in their numbers they say the five [TS]

00:10:41   seconds faster on the track is that I [TS]

00:10:43   don't know how long the track is but you [TS]

00:10:46   know it it's faster as they say hundred [TS]

00:10:50   6263 horsepower from this hybrid for the [TS]

00:10:52   hybrid system that is hi yes I'm trying [TS]

00:10:55   to parallel park it with that big [TS]

00:10:56   he knows what you can get it over first [TS]

00:10:59   you can't get over the the you know the [TS]

00:11:01   skirt things yeah so the rest of the car [TS]

00:11:03   like the aerodynamic aids all the active [TS]

00:11:05   aerodynamics stuff i obviously if I [TS]

00:11:08   could be wrong about f1 again and say [TS]

00:11:09   that I think that's another area that f1 [TS]

00:11:11   has more restrictions and streetcars 10 [TS]

00:11:14   people can write and tell me what I'm [TS]

00:11:16   about that like basically an f1 the [TS]

00:11:18   inheritance [TS]

00:11:19   their goal is to make a competitive [TS]

00:11:21   sport their goal is not to see how fast [TS]

00:11:23   we can go i mean just talking about how [TS]

00:11:24   the engines like v8 or v6 is I whatever [TS]

00:11:27   restrictions they have on the racing [TS]

00:11:29   there's two isn't trying to be in the [TS]

00:11:31   name of fairness but there's no such [TS]

00:11:32   thing as Paris when you're making a [TS]

00:11:34   hypercar you just make it as fast as [TS]

00:11:35   your hand [TS]

00:11:36   I guess you have legal restrictions you [TS]

00:11:38   know for various countries is going to [TS]

00:11:40   be sold in but the a these active Aero [TS]

00:11:44   aids basically flaps on the bottom and [TS]

00:11:46   top of the car fall within the legal [TS]

00:11:49   range of things that you can drive on [TS]

00:11:51   the road in most civilized country so [TS]

00:11:53   hey no problem so that we can get this [TS]

00:11:57   one more thing that can break on your [TS]

00:11:58   car [TS]

00:11:59   that's what you don't care you're a [TS]

00:12:01   millionaire exactly yeah that I think is [TS]

00:12:04   another interesting innovation here [TS]

00:12:05   whereas i don't think the Enzo had any [TS]

00:12:08   sort of actor or at least not the degree [TS]

00:12:10   of active aerodynamics interesting is [TS]

00:12:12   active aerodynamics are not in service [TS]

00:12:13   of going after the Veyrons top speed [TS]

00:12:16   like no one is as want to touch that for [TS]

00:12:18   so many years now it's alright well they [TS]

00:12:20   made this crazy car that was ridiculous [TS]

00:12:22   amount of power and its sole job is to [TS]

00:12:24   be SuperDuper fast and you know it was [TS]

00:12:27   faster on tracks just a tremendous [TS]

00:12:29   amount of power even McLaren's not going [TS]

00:12:31   after mclaren f1 was the big in a top [TS]

00:12:33   speaking for a long time and their new [TS]

00:12:34   p1 also has declined to participate in [TS]

00:12:37   the go after the Veyron top speed [TS]

00:12:40   it's probably because to beat the Veyron [TS]

00:12:42   top speed you have to compromise in so [TS]

00:12:44   many other areas and all these people [TS]

00:12:45   would rather have a car that is more of [TS]

00:12:48   an all-round supercar that it does more [TS]

00:12:50   than just hit the top speed just for the [TS]

00:12:52   hell of it [TS]

00:12:53   so all these arrowheads and laferrari [TS]

00:12:55   are apparently not to help it you know [TS]

00:12:57   go 260 miles an hour top speed is all [TS]

00:12:59   about producing downforce and getting [TS]

00:13:01   around the track faster which i think is [TS]

00:13:02   the appropriate philosophy in mindset [TS]

00:13:06   and stance for ferrari to take rather [TS]

00:13:08   than [TS]

00:13:08   blindly chasing after the top speed [TS]

00:13:10   crown which is mostly meaningless [TS]

00:13:11   because that the number of roads in the [TS]

00:13:14   world where you can get over 260 miles [TS]

00:13:15   an hour are probably very small what [TS]

00:13:21   else we got in this thing [TS]

00:13:22   good got an LCD instrument cluster [TS]

00:13:24   surprise great i mean there are 17 [TS]

00:13:28   inches [TS]

00:13:28   there's no stopping and not know not [TS]

00:13:30   that priming the the thing and in front [TS]

00:13:32   of you know I know just hanging out with [TS]

00:13:33   me if you like a long time ago John you [TS]

00:13:36   went backward back in the early days of [TS]

00:13:38   your hypercritical podcast which episode [TS]

00:13:41   was the TV episode it was lost it was [TS]

00:13:44   really early right before the very first [TS]

00:13:46   episode of TV and I never visited many [TS]

00:13:47   times okay well you know it at the time [TS]

00:13:51   you were discussing like you know your [TS]

00:13:52   process of buying a new TV and and [TS]

00:13:55   trying to evaluate the different types [TS]

00:13:56   of tvs that that were that had come out [TS]

00:13:58   this is about what two years ago and and [TS]

00:14:01   just looking at you know the plasma LCD [TS]

00:14:04   and all the little tricks that they did [TS]

00:14:06   with technology to try to make it better [TS]

00:14:08   because we had passed the point where [TS]

00:14:11   the simple thing worked for at least a [TS]

00:14:13   simpler thing worked and we had reached [TS]

00:14:16   the point TV technology where we are [TS]

00:14:18   still today we're in order to get more [TS]

00:14:22   contrast more brightness faster refresh [TS]

00:14:24   whatever the case in order to improve [TS]

00:14:26   the spectrum to compete the [TS]

00:14:28   manufacturers had to start doing all [TS]

00:14:30   these like weird little tricks and hacks [TS]

00:14:32   to to pass these limits that they had [TS]

00:14:35   found with the simpler options and I [TS]

00:14:37   feel like when that happens to an [TS]

00:14:39   industry that tends to make products [TS]

00:14:42   that are better in some ways worse and [TS]

00:14:45   others way more complex and often [TS]

00:14:47   there's weird side effects to the [TS]

00:14:49   decisions that they've made and it's [TS]

00:14:51   often kind of questionable at the end [TS]

00:14:53   whether overall we're better off or not [TS]

00:14:54   and and I feel like that's where cars [TS]

00:14:57   are especially at the very high end like [TS]

00:14:59   this [TS]

00:14:59   that's where cars are today where we've [TS]

00:15:02   we've already exhausted the value I [TS]

00:15:08   think of a naturally aspirated engine i [TS]

00:15:11   think we're going to see very very few [TS]

00:15:12   of those in new car models going forward [TS]

00:15:14   except for the very low-end even I mean [TS]

00:15:18   even like the honda accord and toyota [TS]

00:15:20   camry i would bet are going to be [TS]

00:15:22   turbocharged fairly soon do you think [TS]

00:15:24   that's probably that's probably a safe [TS]

00:15:26   assumption right for eventually I said [TS]

00:15:28   that's a industry-wide trend is lowest [TS]

00:15:30   placement with turbos right well but [TS]

00:15:32   little I think you're right the only the [TS]

00:15:34   only complaint I would lodge with with [TS]

00:15:36   regard to that assertion is that if you [TS]

00:15:39   are used to driving a naturally [TS]

00:15:41   aspirated car and you drive nearly any [TS]

00:15:43   turbocharged car no matter how good of a [TS]

00:15:46   turbocharged motor it is you still feel [TS]

00:15:50   that lag it's the same kind of leg that [TS]

00:15:52   I would feel into naturally aspirated [TS]

00:15:54   cars one of which is a stick and one is [TS]

00:15:55   not where you get that kind of lag from [TS]

00:15:57   the torque converter in that [TS]

00:15:58   disconnection between the motor in the [TS]

00:16:02   in the drivetrain and you get that as [TS]

00:16:04   well and a turbocharged car and so while [TS]

00:16:06   i completely agree with you guys that on [TS]

00:16:08   the street in most normal applications [TS]

00:16:11   that's the where everything is going to [TS]

00:16:12   be a turbocharged but the having driven [TS]

00:16:15   some reasonably quick naturally [TS]

00:16:17   aspirated cars like my friend brian's 96 [TS]

00:16:19   m three the throttle response from those [TS]

00:16:22   colors is just unbelievable and you'll [TS]

00:16:24   never get that with the turbocharger [TS]

00:16:25   even in the 335 and with the n54 than 55 [TS]

00:16:28   which are universally praised as having [TS]

00:16:30   almost no lag it's there's still enough [TS]

00:16:32   flag that way it would bother you and so [TS]

00:16:33   I I don't know when specifically this [TS]

00:16:35   would be used except maybe track queens [TS]

00:16:37   but i just don't see turbochargers going [TS]

00:16:39   I don't see natural aspiration going [TS]

00:16:41   completely out the window and not to say [TS]

00:16:44   that that's what I think it always ever [TS]

00:16:46   go away entirely well now you know it [TS]

00:16:48   would work to the point now where other [TS]

00:16:50   factors that people want or that it that [TS]

00:16:53   factors are better demanded by [TS]

00:16:54   regulations like environmental [TS]

00:16:56   regulations things that people want are [TS]

00:16:59   becoming more important orders being [TS]

00:17:01   more demand for them then the benefits [TS]

00:17:04   of a simpler design to and people aren't [TS]

00:17:06   going people aren't going low [TS]

00:17:07   displacement turbo because they think [TS]

00:17:08   it's better [TS]

00:17:09   they're going there because they're [TS]

00:17:10   forced to write because it's really [TS]

00:17:12   efficient and and it's a way to get more [TS]

00:17:14   power about adding more animated way to [TS]

00:17:17   get to put smaller engines and smaller [TS]

00:17:19   engines way less smaller engines with [TS]

00:17:20   lower displacement to use use less gas [TS]

00:17:22   but people still want to have adequate [TS]

00:17:24   power alright so we'll give you a [TS]

00:17:25   smaller engine that weighs less that has [TS]

00:17:26   lower displacement but will try to [TS]

00:17:28   release match the previous power with [TS]

00:17:29   audiences are both right but see but now [TS]

00:17:31   like it [TS]

00:17:32   it's if we're going to start having all [TS]

00:17:33   these asterisks on everything like you [TS]

00:17:36   know that the laferrari it has these two [TS]

00:17:39   different powertrains one of which [TS]

00:17:40   produces the whatever 800-horsepower one [TS]

00:17:42   of experience 163 horsepower but 263 [TS]

00:17:46   horsepower is like a maximum and I guess [TS]

00:17:49   I'm sure it's possible that if you're [TS]

00:17:50   driving it pretty hard that you're [TS]

00:17:52   probably not gonna have full battery [TS]

00:17:55   charge after a while and you know you're [TS]

00:17:57   gonna like there's gonna be times where [TS]

00:17:58   the battery will run out and he and then [TS]

00:18:01   the performance will suffer until you [TS]

00:18:03   get enough battery power back and you'll [TS]

00:18:05   be down to only 800 horsepower well but [TS]

00:18:08   still what the one about the total [TS]

00:18:09   living along practically but still like [TS]

00:18:12   there's going to be things like these [TS]

00:18:13   little exceptions to feel like as cars [TS]

00:18:16   move into these complicated technologies [TS]

00:18:17   there's always little exception so like [TS]

00:18:18   what turbos at first and until they got [TS]

00:18:21   very good at least the big the big [TS]

00:18:22   asterisk was lag and I think we've we've [TS]

00:18:26   minimize lag so far and I'm sure there's [TS]

00:18:29   still a way to go and and and you're [TS]

00:18:32   right that it's not eliminated but we [TS]

00:18:34   certainly gotten very good at it but [TS]

00:18:35   like as things get more complicated it [TS]

00:18:39   becomes harder to say oh well it's it [TS]

00:18:41   has X horsepower and even like like we [TS]

00:18:44   discussed dct is a while back and people [TS]

00:18:48   wrote in and informed us that you know [TS]

00:18:50   with the dct it pre-selects the next get [TS]

00:18:53   you're likely to pick but if you pick [TS]

00:18:55   the other one the other direction that [TS]

00:18:58   it didn't pre-select your shift times [TS]

00:19:00   take longer [TS]

00:19:01   so your shift times taking take an [TS]

00:19:04   unknown amount of time depending on what [TS]

00:19:05   you're doing so it's inconsistent that's [TS]

00:19:08   one of those things really we apply [TS]

00:19:09   technology to make it better most of the [TS]

00:19:11   time but then there's a little asterisk [TS]

00:19:12   that oh well it's going to take longer [TS]

00:19:14   if you do this one condition or you know [TS]

00:19:16   like there's always that there's all [TS]

00:19:18   these little exceptions as we make [TS]

00:19:20   things more complex that overall we are [TS]

00:19:23   getting better off but everything just [TS]

00:19:25   getting more complicated and there and [TS]

00:19:28   we just keep seeing like little tiny [TS]

00:19:29   downsides to that and it's going that's [TS]

00:19:32   going to expand as his technology mature [TS]

00:19:34   now get going back a second about the [TS]

00:19:36   turbo lag thing i found out now that [TS]

00:19:39   I've regularly driven a turbo car and on [TS]

00:19:43   turbo car i have found [TS]

00:19:45   and that it's all about what you're used [TS]

00:19:48   to like yes when I when I got the 1m I'd [TS]

00:19:52   never had a turbo car before so i got [TS]

00:19:53   the 1am and I mean talk about turbo [TS]

00:19:57   boost I mean that thing is insanely over [TS]

00:19:59   boosted like when when you step on it it [TS]

00:20:02   just kicks you in the butt forward I [TS]

00:20:04   mean it is really really strong boost so [TS]

00:20:08   I had it for a few months and then I [TS]

00:20:09   went to that racing day where i got to [TS]

00:20:11   drive the current m3 and m5 and the m3 [TS]

00:20:14   is a naturally aspirated v8 as you said [TS]

00:20:16   what I found with the m3 was that [TS]

00:20:20   because I was accustomed to that strong [TS]

00:20:22   turbo engine in the one app the m3 felt [TS]

00:20:25   like it was lacking high-end perfect I [TS]

00:20:27   and performance in the RPM range even [TS]

00:20:29   though that's what everyone's been [TS]

00:20:31   expecting out of cars forever but I [TS]

00:20:33   didn't have that I had the turbo so when [TS]

00:20:34   I went to that it was like you know up [TS]

00:20:36   from the beginning from of the of the [TS]

00:20:38   power range of the RPM range i was like [TS]

00:20:40   okay this is really fast and as I got [TS]

00:20:41   towards the top I was like wait where's [TS]

00:20:43   my boost you know what I expect this to [TS]

00:20:45   be kicking me in the butt right now it's [TS]

00:20:46   not you know so I i think it's it's just [TS]

00:20:50   about whatever you used to and that [TS]

00:20:51   feels normal to you and then when you [TS]

00:20:53   get into the other thing it feels [TS]

00:20:55   underpowered either in the early part of [TS]

00:20:57   the Ranger on the left and later part of [TS]

00:20:58   the range finding what you're used to [TS]

00:21:00   I would agree with that i think that's [TS]

00:21:01   that's a very fair way of looking at it [TS]

00:21:04   and i don't know i mean i don't mind [TS]

00:21:05   turbocharged cars and everything you do [TS]

00:21:07   you guys just said is right now that the [TS]

00:21:08   subaru had a single turbo that I don't [TS]

00:21:11   know a measurement on top my head but it [TS]

00:21:13   did very qualitatively it felt lag year [TS]

00:21:17   than 335 does I those the only [TS]

00:21:20   turbocharged cars driven irregularity [TS]

00:21:22   and 335 doesn't feel much like a [TS]

00:21:25   turbocharged card feels much more like a [TS]

00:21:27   very small v8 which is exactly what BMW [TS]

00:21:29   is aiming for and to that end I I really [TS]

00:21:32   enjoy it now you put me in in John's [TS]

00:21:34   accord with a proper transmission and no [TS]

00:21:37   turbochargers and I'll probably say well [TS]

00:21:39   it isn't as quick as a 335 that man is [TS]

00:21:42   that throttle response good so I don't [TS]

00:21:44   John have you driven many church party [TS]

00:21:46   said your your appearance vulva was is [TS]

00:21:48   that right yeah i mean and that was it [TS]

00:21:50   was an old-style turbo where there's no [TS]

00:21:52   engine and then all of a sudden as an [TS]

00:21:53   engine like that you know there was it [TS]

00:21:55   like that was like a group just [TS]

00:21:56   continuous power [TS]

00:21:58   banned entirely that's that's that's the [TS]

00:22:00   exciting part about turbos is that it's [TS]

00:22:02   not so much if you had smoothly gone up [TS]

00:22:05   to the level of power wouldn't be as [TS]

00:22:06   dramatic as you going and before like it [TS]

00:22:09   that there was tremendous turbo lag but [TS]

00:22:11   when it kicked in yet i don't think it [TS]

00:22:13   was a very strong turbo but like that [TS]

00:22:14   the engine wasn't that powerful but the [TS]

00:22:17   turbo really you know you noticed it and [TS]

00:22:20   that was exciting you know I mean keep [TS]

00:22:22   going from cars that had no power at all [TS]

00:22:24   to one that you know had this big jump [TS]

00:22:26   to power was good at the the same token [TS]

00:22:31   I've always this is the kind of a [TS]

00:22:33   engineering nerd type thing I've always [TS]

00:22:35   respected car companies that produce [TS]

00:22:38   naturally aspirated engines and then [TS]

00:22:40   brag about the horsepower per liter [TS]

00:22:42   right like that was the whole point that [TS]

00:22:44   race like acura had the crown with the [TS]

00:22:47   integra for a while I think and I think [TS]

00:22:49   Ferrari had it with the 355 at one point [TS]

00:22:52   had the highest you know output per for [TS]

00:22:55   leader and that is kind of like a [TS]

00:22:58   gentleman's like a gentleman's race for [TS]

00:23:00   you know we're not going to use [TS]

00:23:02   turbocharger yes we could we could just [TS]

00:23:04   pump air into the engine and get more [TS]

00:23:06   power that's unseemly we're going to see [TS]

00:23:08   how much again you know and that thing [TS]

00:23:10   about Marcos analogy with like lcds and [TS]

00:23:13   how their pack to death try to make them [TS]

00:23:15   be decent [TS]

00:23:16   I think the appropriate analog for lcds [TS]

00:23:19   and how you know we've changed them a [TS]

00:23:20   lot and and in the car world is the [TS]

00:23:23   internal combustion engine because [TS]

00:23:25   internal combustion engines like look [TS]

00:23:26   you could squirt flammable stuff in here [TS]

00:23:29   and light it and it pushes these things [TS]

00:23:30   up [TS]

00:23:31   that's great and then immediately [TS]

00:23:32   everyone sees okay well that's good and [TS]

00:23:34   all but there are some problems with his [TS]

00:23:36   engine for one thing when you run too [TS]

00:23:37   fast it explodes [TS]

00:23:38   that's bad time to get hot and melt [TS]

00:23:41   together we gotta think of something to [TS]

00:23:42   do about that too and you know it we [TS]

00:23:46   have all these belts and pulleys know [TS]

00:23:47   that they are in great and they kind of [TS]

00:23:48   wear out and when they break bad things [TS]

00:23:50   happen so if we could maybe get some of [TS]

00:23:52   you know it's like we've been hacking [TS]

00:23:53   the internal and just an engine for all [TS]

00:23:55   of its terrible flaws though you know it [TS]

00:23:56   shakes the whole car apart well maybe [TS]

00:23:58   but a different amount of cylinders in [TS]

00:23:59   it that will be better balance but if we [TS]

00:24:01   have the lower number we could bounce [TS]

00:24:02   shafts in and like you know timing [TS]

00:24:05   chains and overhead cams and direct [TS]

00:24:06   injection you know where instead of [TS]

00:24:08   spraying the gas to a tube into this [TS]

00:24:09   thing maybe just squirt right into the [TS]

00:24:11   engine you know all we've just been [TS]

00:24:13   hacking this friggin thing to death [TS]

00:24:14   forever it is that the internal [TS]

00:24:16   combustion engine is the lcds of today [TS]

00:24:18   where they have all this time tables on [TS]

00:24:19   had a transition of pixel from one color [TS]

00:24:21   to another color by passing through [TS]

00:24:23   solid color because that's actually the [TS]

00:24:24   fastest path is pre-programmed in all [TS]

00:24:26   those things all that crazy stuff and [TS]

00:24:28   dynamic back lights on TVs and [TS]

00:24:30   everything that's what we're doing the [TS]

00:24:31   internal combustion engine [TS]

00:24:32   contrast this with the new technology [TS]

00:24:34   which is you know like in the Tesla [TS]

00:24:36   which is still in the stage were like [TS]

00:24:38   hey we can hook up batteries to an [TS]

00:24:40   electric motor and it goes and we [TS]

00:24:42   haven't yet begun to really hack that [TS]

00:24:44   maybe we won't maybe just inherently [TS]

00:24:45   simple technology but for one thing [TS]

00:24:46   transmission goes out the window we just [TS]

00:24:49   hook up the freakin engine to the wheel [TS]

00:24:51   you know we're good to go there all [TS]

00:24:52   these things about torque you know not [TS]

00:24:54   having a low-end torque or anything [TS]

00:24:55   hundred percent of your target that [TS]

00:24:57   available in electric languages [TS]

00:24:58   available with 0 RPM which is very [TS]

00:25:01   different from the other things we have [TS]

00:25:02   to do with with regular you know [TS]

00:25:04   internal combustion engines so just come [TS]

00:25:06   but this combination seems like the [TS]

00:25:07   hacker but I think internal combustion [TS]

00:25:09   engines are really the ultimate hack job [TS]

00:25:11   and we continue to push them and push [TS]

00:25:13   them that's what the load displacement [TS]

00:25:14   herbal about it's like if you would if [TS]

00:25:17   you took one of these load displacement [TS]

00:25:18   turbos from some crappy economy car and [TS]

00:25:20   brought it back in time to like the [TS]

00:25:21   fifties and said we have an engine for [TS]

00:25:24   you and it's ways you know 200 pants and [TS]

00:25:26   it displaces this much and this and this [TS]

00:25:28   is the mileage and is the power they'd [TS]

00:25:30   be like this from a supercar like no to [TS]

00:25:32   toyota echo you know like it's [TS]

00:25:35   unbelievable we managed to ring out of [TS]

00:25:37   the internal combustion engine which is [TS]

00:25:38   why it's got such legs battery density [TS]

00:25:41   like power density of batteries like how [TS]

00:25:43   much energy can you put in how much mass [TS]

00:25:45   but we are much lower in advancing and [TS]

00:25:48   that's why all the hydrogen cars and all [TS]

00:25:50   that other stuff in our weekend which [TS]

00:25:51   all your cars and on we can run our cars [TS]

00:25:54   on tiny little off mr. fusion type [TS]

00:25:56   things or maybe use depleted uranium or [TS]

00:25:58   not completing the case may be you know [TS]

00:26:00   like other things have better energy [TS]

00:26:02   mass than gasoline but currently battery [TS]

00:26:04   technology is not one of them when [TS]

00:26:07   gasoline also has a heck of a lot of [TS]

00:26:09   advantages in just practicality like for [TS]

00:26:14   instance if you if you crash into a car [TS]

00:26:16   so hard that the gas tank ruptures it [TS]

00:26:19   won't explode immediately [TS]

00:26:21   you can't quite guarantee that for [TS]

00:26:23   hydrogen [TS]

00:26:24   and and and there's there's like all [TS]

00:26:27   sorts of other like transporting that I [TS]

00:26:30   truck transport on hydrogen is kind of [TS]

00:26:33   dangerous compared to gasoline smell [TS]

00:26:35   like there's a debatable whether the [TS]

00:26:36   hydrogen is more dangerous think more [TS]

00:26:38   the only thing is really really you [TS]

00:26:40   could say hydrogen has disadvantages vs [TS]

00:26:43   guess is that it has to be under [TS]

00:26:44   pressure right and that adds a [TS]

00:26:46   tremendous implications [TS]

00:26:47   yeah yeah yeah I don't know about the [TS]

00:26:50   explosiveness or any of those other [TS]

00:26:52   factors if that's if that's just because [TS]

00:26:54   of the pressures involved or not but [TS]

00:26:55   like have you guys heard of the Fisker [TS]

00:26:57   Karma [TS]

00:26:58   yes in fact mr. just quit didn't he mr. [TS]

00:27:02   fisker I think just left the company [TS]

00:27:04   left the board or something there that [TS]

00:27:06   mean that company was probably never [TS]

00:27:08   going anywhere but the design is like [TS]

00:27:09   the Chevy Volt where it's got a gasoline [TS]

00:27:11   engine but the end is not connected to [TS]

00:27:12   the wheels it's just there as a [TS]

00:27:15   generator to charge the batteries and [TS]

00:27:16   the batteries drive electric motors to [TS]

00:27:18   make the car go right and i think that's [TS]

00:27:20   a pretty elegant solution to the hybrid [TS]

00:27:22   range problem [TS]

00:27:23   I mean to the electric car range problem [TS]

00:27:25   and we obviously that's a transitional [TS]

00:27:27   technology until we can really you know [TS]

00:27:29   gets the point where battery density is [TS]

00:27:31   awesome and we can start doing you no [TS]

00:27:33   longer range cars and maybe faster [TS]

00:27:36   recharges on the highway but until we [TS]

00:27:38   get there which is probably at least a [TS]

00:27:40   decade off i think these uh I think [TS]

00:27:43   things like the volt and the fisker are [TS]

00:27:44   really a very smart compromise [TS]

00:27:47   oh yeah I'd like to see it we should [TS]

00:27:48   have done that before the show if we [TS]

00:27:49   actually prepared but like a graph of [TS]

00:27:50   energy density and batteries because i [TS]

00:27:53   think it is not improving all that fast [TS]

00:27:55   like you said 10 years but they always [TS]

00:27:56   just say ten years like it's right up [TS]

00:27:58   wearing like show me the graph right [TS]

00:27:59   what is how how are our wii advantage is [TS]

00:28:02   obviously this to lots of effort put on [TS]

00:28:04   crew increasing energy density batteries [TS]

00:28:06   because it helps laptops cell phones [TS]

00:28:08   tablets like this many applications of [TS]

00:28:09   this car is just one of the many [TS]

00:28:11   applications so it seems it's not for [TS]

00:28:13   lack of trying like if someone could do [TS]

00:28:15   a tenfold increase in energy density and [TS]

00:28:17   batteries and you know and maintain like [TS]

00:28:19   a reasonable recharge time like fuel [TS]

00:28:21   cells for the other thing is going to [TS]

00:28:22   save us but still not here right [TS]

00:28:25   I think progress is slow on those fronts [TS]

00:28:27   whereas I i bet i would like to see that [TS]

00:28:30   graft against like mileage and power [TS]

00:28:33   output for cars because during all this [TS]

00:28:35   time we've been complaining about all [TS]

00:28:37   these fuel efficiency stuff [TS]

00:28:38   the average power available in any car [TS]

00:28:42   pick any car range you know consumer [TS]

00:28:43   sports or whatever just going up up [TS]

00:28:45   because that's what we like we like more [TS]

00:28:46   power right so we've been making really [TS]

00:28:49   good progress hacking the internal [TS]

00:28:51   combustion engine to not just like [TS]

00:28:54   maintain the status quo with better [TS]

00:28:55   mileage but give us better mileage and [TS]

00:28:57   more power and more torque and better [TS]

00:28:59   torque curves and less noise and [TS]

00:29:01   vibration and harshness and you know [TS]

00:29:02   just improving on all fronts probably [TS]

00:29:05   faster than $PERCENT battery [TS]

00:29:06   technologies have been proving so I'm [TS]

00:29:09   unless there's going to be some sort of [TS]

00:29:10   breakthrough in battery technology in my [TS]

00:29:12   lifetime I'm having a hard time seeing [TS]

00:29:15   the internal combustion engine ever get [TS]

00:29:17   complete dethrone the balance of power [TS]

00:29:18   and underneath the cars may change in [TS]

00:29:20   terms of how much battery how much [TS]

00:29:22   electric how much gas but any technology [TS]

00:29:25   is going to be the internal combustion [TS]

00:29:27   has a tough road ahead of it because [TS]

00:29:29   internal brush and keeps getting better [TS]

00:29:30   and we worked on it for a long time and [TS]

00:29:34   battery technology and you know carbon [TS]

00:29:36   and fuel cells have not been getting [TS]

00:29:38   better fast enough to like quickly swamp [TS]

00:29:41   and overtake like when the priest came [TS]

00:29:42   out of our people like Oh in five years [TS]

00:29:44   all these internal combustion engine [TS]

00:29:45   will be gone [TS]

00:29:46   well no not you mean not less battery [TS]

00:29:49   technology gets much better faster and [TS]

00:29:50   if it does you'll notice because [TS]

00:29:51   suddenly you're your cell phone will [TS]

00:29:53   last all week without charging when that [TS]

00:29:55   happens watch out internal combustion [TS]

00:29:56   engine but you know right now on the [TS]

00:29:58   other limiting factors that may be [TS]

00:30:00   yourself what does go a week without [TS]

00:30:01   charging but it's only because the [TS]

00:30:03   internal components now sip juice like [TS]

00:30:04   crazy but at your car has to carry [TS]

00:30:08   around you at the very least and you're [TS]

00:30:10   not getting any center especially for [TS]

00:30:13   American yeah and also known as we were [TS]

00:30:15   saying the minute ago like really [TS]

00:30:17   gasoline is extremely convenient for so [TS]

00:30:20   many reasons like it especially you know [TS]

00:30:22   you look at what test was doing with the [TS]

00:30:23   supercharged and everything and that's [TS]

00:30:25   that's a big step but it being it like [TS]

00:30:29   having to stop for 45 minutes or a half [TS]

00:30:33   hour whatever it is I don't want I don't [TS]

00:30:34   want Tesla Sumerian and threatened to [TS]

00:30:36   lose a hundred million dollars of value [TS]

00:30:37   but you know whatever it is half hour 45 [TS]

00:30:41   minutes for a full charge [TS]

00:30:43   that's very very different to stop on a [TS]

00:30:45   road trip every 200 miles for that then [TS]

00:30:48   to stop every 500 miles 45 minutes [TS]

00:30:52   anywhere but no matter where you are you [TS]

00:30:55   can find a gas station within a few [TS]

00:30:56   miles of where you are in all likelihood [TS]

00:30:58   be able to stop their refill your car [TS]

00:31:01   and have another 500 miles arranged i [TS]

00:31:02   mean that's that's awesome and only [TS]

00:31:05   gasoline today can do that and you're [TS]

00:31:07   right it doesn't seem like the [TS]

00:31:08   alternatives are advancing quickly [TS]

00:31:11   enough to be able to replace that [TS]

00:31:13   anytime soon [TS]

00:31:15   I would agree with that it there's an [TS]

00:31:17   argument that several people been making [TS]

00:31:19   my father said this to me on numerous [TS]

00:31:21   occasions that we're never going to [TS]

00:31:22   really be able to break off the the oil [TS]

00:31:26   teat if you will until either we really [TS]

00:31:29   do run out of oil or it just gets taxed [TS]

00:31:32   well candidly to you know European [TS]

00:31:34   levels in America and then suddenly will [TS]

00:31:36   say oh we must find a way and then [TS]

00:31:38   suddenly someone will have an epiphany [TS]

00:31:40   and decide oh we can do this other thing [TS]

00:31:42   much cheaper better we want dinosaurs [TS]

00:31:44   because we'll just do what you have to [TS]

00:31:46   like every every time the gas prices are [TS]

00:31:49   getting near another dollar interval [TS]

00:31:51   everyone predict o-once it crosses X [TS]

00:31:55   dollars a gallon and then world never [TS]

00:31:57   gonna c major you know major shifts and [TS]

00:31:59   demand and electric things taking over [TS]

00:32:02   and practice that crosses that level [TS]

00:32:04   everyone freaks out for a week and then [TS]

00:32:06   that's just the normal level of casque [TS]

00:32:07   costs and and so it doesn't and yeah you [TS]

00:32:10   know food prices rise trucker prices are [TS]

00:32:13   you know like all this stuff happened to [TS]

00:32:14   the economy but in people's minds [TS]

00:32:16   gasps crossing a certain level doesn't [TS]

00:32:18   really change anything now [TS]

00:32:20   certainly you know to go to European [TS]

00:32:22   type pricing for gas it would I think it [TS]

00:32:24   was mostly double our prices that [TS]

00:32:26   roughly $PERCENT accurate be paying more [TS]

00:32:28   than eight dollars gown and and that's [TS]

00:32:31   with the convert two leaders some [TS]

00:32:32   habitat that's a you know that would [TS]

00:32:36   certainly like a doubling is obviously a [TS]

00:32:38   a bigger change than just going to five [TS]

00:32:41   dollars or something and and that might [TS]

00:32:44   change people's minds a little bit more [TS]

00:32:45   severely but I think we can see that [TS]

00:32:48   already we can look at Europe we can see [TS]

00:32:50   places that do have way more expensive [TS]

00:32:52   gas than we do and they have an off [TS]

00:32:55   switch to electric they just buy [TS]

00:32:57   smaller displacement engines they they [TS]

00:32:58   care more about efficiency they buy [TS]

00:33:00   smaller cars you know like that's that's [TS]

00:33:03   what we're going to see and we do see [TS]

00:33:05   that now already you know when as gas [TS]

00:33:08   pricing goes up we are seeing that [TS]

00:33:10   demand shift just very very slowly but [TS]

00:33:13   there's never some big trigger event [TS]

00:33:15   that certainly makes everyone willing to [TS]

00:33:17   tolerate such at things like the [TS]

00:33:19   downsides of electric cars [TS]

00:33:21   oh there's two things work is energy [TS]

00:33:23   density which you just mentioned and I [TS]

00:33:24   finally did look up a graphing and [TS]

00:33:26   according to this graph we have doubled [TS]

00:33:28   energy density and 10 years from [TS]

00:33:30   basically from the introduction of the [TS]

00:33:31   ev1 to the Tesla so there's progress but [TS]

00:33:33   it's something every year it's doubling [TS]

00:33:35   every 10 years so that's 10 times slower [TS]

00:33:36   than we would expect from you know [TS]

00:33:38   transistor density or whatever and the [TS]

00:33:40   other factors cost [TS]

00:33:42   alright so fine say we could double [TS]

00:33:43   energy density in one year instead of 10 [TS]

00:33:45   it still costs 50 grand for you like [TS]

00:33:48   real cost without government you know [TS]

00:33:50   subsidies and rebates and other stuff to [TS]

00:33:52   get you just any car with it with a [TS]

00:33:54   reasonable range with a battery in it [TS]

00:33:56   it's not so good I mean I that you know [TS]

00:33:59   we have all these government subsidies [TS]

00:34:00   that make the model s as cheap as it is [TS]

00:34:02   a hundred grand like the Chevy Volt is [TS]

00:34:04   like 40 grand which is still expensive [TS]

00:34:05   but the Sheffield is not really 40 grand [TS]

00:34:08   it's way more expensive than that now if [TS]

00:34:10   you just if you're paying the full cost [TS]

00:34:11   and so these increases energy and you [TS]

00:34:14   have to come along with an economical [TS]

00:34:18   increases energy density because the [TS]

00:34:19   batteries are so big and you know that [TS]

00:34:21   the the things physics are so movable [TS]

00:34:23   you have to move the people over the [TS]

00:34:24   roads through the air you can't like [TS]

00:34:26   that energy barrier is not going to get [TS]

00:34:28   any lower and yet I mean it was more [TS]

00:34:31   thinking that I mean here's a question [TS]

00:34:32   you know right now like you know as you [TS]

00:34:36   can probably tell by my ranting about [TS]

00:34:37   range and and refill times I wouldn't [TS]

00:34:40   buy something like the Tesla today [TS]

00:34:41   because I frequently take long road [TS]

00:34:44   trips that are you know like 200 miles [TS]

00:34:46   long or 250 miles long [TS]

00:34:48   where it sounds like I would probably [TS]

00:34:51   not make it on a full charge of a Tesla [TS]

00:34:54   or it would be it would be uncomfortably [TS]

00:34:56   close so i probably should probably [TS]

00:34:57   wouldn't want to attempt that anyway so [TS]

00:35:00   like a at the addition question first [TS]

00:35:03   answer how much range do you think [TS]

00:35:06   electric car would need for you to make [TS]

00:35:08   it your only car [TS]

00:35:10   like I think for me that number is [TS]

00:35:11   probably 500 miles and i'm basing that [TS]

00:35:15   on like I would want to be if I was [TS]

00:35:18   taking a multi-day road trip which [TS]

00:35:21   granted i don't really do the most of [TS]

00:35:23   the time but it but if I was taking a [TS]

00:35:25   multi-day road trip i would want to be [TS]

00:35:26   roughly the number of miles i would want [TS]

00:35:29   to drive per day before just gettin [TS]

00:35:31   tired and wanted to save the rest of the [TS]

00:35:32   next day so I think 500 is a decent [TS]

00:35:35   number for that but actually that's my [TS]

00:35:37   real world miles though not 500 like if [TS]

00:35:40   you absolutely stretch everything to the [TS]

00:35:42   max and drive perfectly on a perfectly [TS]

00:35:44   flat road with no wind [TS]

00:35:45   I'm talking real usage mileage so it [TS]

00:35:48   would probably need an advertised [TS]

00:35:49   capacity of more like 700 miles but [TS]

00:35:51   you're basing that on on the idea that [TS]

00:35:53   it takes you a long time to refuel and [TS]

00:35:57   that you can't refuel anywhere that was [TS]

00:35:59   true that those are two things because [TS]

00:36:01   you're not insisting a 500 mile range [TS]

00:36:02   and gas garbage like I just stopped at a [TS]

00:36:04   gas station big deal no big deal right [TS]

00:36:05   a lot of cars over 500 my friendships I [TS]

00:36:08   tell ya something very few very very [TS]

00:36:10   view but yea BMWs are among those cars [TS]

00:36:12   that ridiculous ranges another not [TS]

00:36:14   becoming Muslim yeah I fill my car [TS]

00:36:17   constantly well some of them do I just [TS]

00:36:20   thought was just reading about it was [TS]

00:36:21   just reading about some car with BMW [TS]

00:36:23   with a 500 mile range was a DVD m550d [TS]

00:36:26   which is ridiculously awesome we'll [TS]

00:36:28   never get in the US [TS]

00:36:29   yeah my abilities but anyway like so if [TS]

00:36:33   you have one of these cars like the [TS]

00:36:35   vaults of the Karma we're all right so [TS]

00:36:37   the range is 200 miles or 250 miles even [TS]

00:36:39   or something that reason one else but [TS]

00:36:41   you just felt the gas tank when it runs [TS]

00:36:43   out right in the gas station it's still [TS]

00:36:45   electric are you still get you know 50 [TS]

00:36:47   miles per gallon or whatever 60 then [TS]

00:36:50   suddenly you don't your criteria 500 my [TS]

00:36:52   range is not a big deal you're just [TS]

00:36:54   talking about pure-play entirely [TS]

00:36:56   electric cars because you know that [TS]

00:36:58   given current technology it takes [TS]

00:36:59   forever to charge them you can't just [TS]

00:37:01   stop for 10 minutes and you know fill [TS]

00:37:03   the tank again you're going to be there [TS]

00:37:05   for an hour two hours something really [TS]

00:37:06   good like that it's really extending [TS]

00:37:07   your trip and I'm frequently like I'm [TS]

00:37:09   frequently in rural areas where you know [TS]

00:37:12   there you might have to drive five miles [TS]

00:37:15   before you see the first gas station i [TS]

00:37:18   think it's going to be fairly long [TS]

00:37:19   before those places have [TS]

00:37:21   high speed electric charge stations and [TS]

00:37:24   high-speed it's like a half an hour in [TS]

00:37:25   our writings have more it still sucks if [TS]

00:37:28   you do if you weren't planning like you [TS]

00:37:30   know Tesla's Tesla's PR kind of says [TS]

00:37:33   well you know if you if you're stopping [TS]

00:37:35   for a meal i must recharge your car [TS]

00:37:37   rental it'll just take longer to go in [TS]

00:37:39   and have a meal well i don't know about [TS]

00:37:41   you but when I stopped for a road trip [TS]

00:37:42   first of all I like not having to stop [TS]

00:37:45   for a half-hour like if I don't really [TS]

00:37:47   want to me i don't really need a meal [TS]

00:37:48   thank you i just like to fill up please [TS]

00:37:49   with gas that takes five minutes and but [TS]

00:37:52   even even from stopping for a meal [TS]

00:37:55   what they're really what they're really [TS]

00:37:56   telling us to get a full charge need to [TS]

00:37:58   stop for like 45 minutes or you know [TS]

00:38:00   that's that's a bit long for a road trip [TS]

00:38:02   meal for me like when we stopped you [TS]

00:38:04   know even a rest stop and maybe if we go [TS]

00:38:07   to the bathroom and get gas and get food [TS]

00:38:10   maybe it might be 25-30 minutes [TS]

00:38:14   you know like it here and and we're not [TS]

00:38:15   likely to do that do in the middle of [TS]

00:38:18   most road trips you know like most road [TS]

00:38:21   trips are going to be like for us it's [TS]

00:38:22   gonna be like that 200 to 300 mile range [TS]

00:38:24   where we can make it the whole way [TS]

00:38:26   without gas or food probably you know so [TS]

00:38:29   and if we do stop for either we're gonna [TS]

00:38:31   make it quick [TS]

00:38:32   similarly like I mean obviously I'm new [TS]

00:38:35   to this whole having a kid thing but for [TS]

00:38:40   us you know I I assume this is similar [TS]

00:38:42   with other parents you know the baby has [TS]

00:38:45   his own schedule and if we stop for a [TS]

00:38:50   half hour at an unplanned time that's [TS]

00:38:53   going to really backfire in a bad way in [TS]

00:38:56   all likelihood and whereas like you know [TS]

00:38:59   if I'm just stopping for five minutes [TS]

00:39:00   and the baby is trying to sleep and he [TS]

00:39:02   only wants to sleep on the cars going [TS]

00:39:04   fast okay i can stop 45 minutes he might [TS]

00:39:07   sleep through it if he wakes up he'll [TS]

00:39:08   scream 43 minutes and then we go [TS]

00:39:10   you know that's that's very different [TS]

00:39:12   from ok here's an unplanned [TS]

00:39:14   half-hour-long stop and and some of this [TS]

00:39:17   is you could argue some of this would [TS]

00:39:19   just be changing your habits and and [TS]

00:39:22   planning for these things and [TS]

00:39:23   accommodating for these things but [TS]

00:39:25   that's not a very strong selling point [TS]

00:39:27   in a market that's already established [TS]

00:39:28   like gas is really convenient we have [TS]

00:39:31   gas everywhere available to us for [TS]

00:39:34   reasonable prices for the most part with [TS]

00:39:37   very fast Philip times and so gas is [TS]

00:39:39   very convenient and and two for somebody [TS]

00:39:41   to spend more temporarily spend more on [TS]

00:39:45   electric car and to have all these [TS]

00:39:48   downsides that go with it [TS]

00:39:50   I think it's a pretty weak proposition [TS]

00:39:52   but i think they were the range thing is [TS]

00:39:55   mostly not it i mean not that it's not [TS]

00:39:58   important because it is for this for all [TS]

00:39:59   the reasons you listed but it's it's [TS]

00:40:01   mostly it's not what's preventing [TS]

00:40:02   electric cars from up being more popular [TS]

00:40:04   it cost us the problem because so many [TS]

00:40:06   people do not take long trips or have [TS]

00:40:08   two cars and you can have one for the [TS]

00:40:10   long trip someone not for the long trip [TS]

00:40:12   you just need to make the cars and much [TS]

00:40:14   less expensive because then people will [TS]

00:40:15   consider them those hey i'm saving all [TS]

00:40:17   this money on gas [TS]

00:40:19   why wouldn't advise got what you [TS]

00:40:20   wouldn't buy this is 30 grand that's why [TS]

00:40:21   you wouldn't buy you have fifteen [TS]

00:40:22   thousand dollars you can get a honda fit [TS]

00:40:24   that has almost as good mileage not [TS]

00:40:26   quite you know me but if you if if they [TS]

00:40:27   become price-competitive then you know [TS]

00:40:29   people by a little cars to just commute [TS]

00:40:31   back and forth to work my work is like [TS]

00:40:32   five miles away from my house and I you [TS]

00:40:34   know I drive 10 miles a day and you know [TS]

00:40:36   i'm back home i would buy a pure [TS]

00:40:38   electric car to commute to and from work [TS]

00:40:40   in a second if it didn't cost so much [TS]

00:40:44   money you know what I mean oh I mean [TS]

00:40:46   you're right that cost is definitely [TS]

00:40:47   number one factor but you gotta figure [TS]

00:40:50   also a lot of people that you know you [TS]

00:40:53   see this with a lot with people who buy [TS]

00:40:55   SUVs or pickup trucks a lot of people [TS]

00:40:58   will buy a car thinking that they will [TS]

00:41:01   use it in some fashion that requires a [TS]

00:41:04   certain type of car whether it's a truck [TS]

00:41:06   or a big SUV or something like that [TS]

00:41:07   they'll say oh well I'll occasionally go [TS]

00:41:09   up in the mountains or I'll occasionally [TS]

00:41:11   to haul something and it might they [TS]

00:41:13   might only need to do that once a year [TS]

00:41:14   or like twice during the entire time [TS]

00:41:16   they have the car but they still buy the [TS]

00:41:20   car you know kind of aspirationally [TS]

00:41:22   thinking oh I I'm gonna need it for [TS]

00:41:25   those times you and they will consider [TS]

00:41:26   things like oh I'll just rent a truck [TS]

00:41:29   for a day when I need one something [TS]

00:41:31   value those options usually aren't [TS]

00:41:32   considered just like a lot of people [TS]

00:41:34   will will buy a car that is way more [TS]

00:41:37   than their quote needs because of some [TS]

00:41:40   something they have in their head that [TS]

00:41:42   they think they'll do or they want to do [TS]

00:41:43   even though they might never get around [TS]

00:41:45   to it that's going to be the big bro [TS]

00:41:47   album after cost becomes less of an [TS]

00:41:49   issue with electric cars that have [TS]

00:41:51   limited ranges are range issues that [TS]

00:41:53   people like well what if i want to drive [TS]

00:41:55   to ohio you know if that's that then [TS]

00:41:58   it's not gonna I'm gonna have to stop [TS]

00:41:59   for hours in the middle like that even [TS]

00:42:01   even if you only drive to ohio once a [TS]

00:42:04   year or even if you haven't ever done [TS]

00:42:06   and you might want to someday do it but [TS]

00:42:09   I wouldn't recommend them to ohio just [TS]

00:42:11   as an example but if you do you might as [TS]

00:42:14   well we stopped at stake and shake their [TS]

00:42:15   pretty good but yet through it all it's [TS]

00:42:18   a boring state to drive through that's [TS]

00:42:20   mr. communities room at the very least [TS]

00:42:22   if they can get the cost down you can [TS]

00:42:24   immediately you then you have a real [TS]

00:42:26   market because you can immediately sell [TS]

00:42:27   to all the people who already buy cars [TS]

00:42:29   that they just know we're gonna be a [TS]

00:42:30   little dinky commuters are you know [TS]

00:42:31   Europe where like you know you go too [TS]

00:42:33   far in your country so it's not like you [TS]

00:42:35   know haha how long a trip can you really [TS]

00:42:38   taking that they have the Eurorail to go [TS]

00:42:40   on the long trip stuff like that there [TS]

00:42:42   is a market for small commuter cars it [TS]

00:42:44   really never do on your own people will [TS]

00:42:46   buy them at especially if they're cheap [TS]

00:42:48   and not just keep it cheap reliable like [TS]

00:42:50   all there are many advantages to [TS]

00:42:52   electric cars just as fewer fewer things [TS]

00:42:54   that can go wrong in it you know so [TS]

00:42:55   presumably by that point you know no [TS]

00:42:58   more transmission or muffler like you [TS]

00:43:00   could seal the freaking thing up and try [TS]

00:43:01   to make it more weatherproof because [TS]

00:43:02   everything can be you know all sealed up [TS]

00:43:04   and the technology is nailed down to it [TS]

00:43:06   it really will be a much more reliable [TS]

00:43:08   much more pleasant thing to use in this [TS]

00:43:12   hypothetical future where it doesn't [TS]

00:43:13   cost 30 grand take to get yourself one [TS]

00:43:15   that that's any good then you've got you [TS]

00:43:17   are immediately got less a quarter maybe [TS]

00:43:19   even half of the market you still don't [TS]

00:43:21   have those people think they're going a [TS]

00:43:22   long trip and stuff like that but that's [TS]

00:43:23   where hybrids can come in we like all [TS]

00:43:25   right fine [TS]

00:43:25   you've got a gasoline engine charges the [TS]

00:43:27   batteries if if you run a juice just [TS]

00:43:29   filled with gas station you're good to [TS]

00:43:30   go then that works out but I mean I [TS]

00:43:34   think this is all gets back to those [TS]

00:43:35   those stupid batteries like all these [TS]

00:43:37   things are just all hypothetical because [TS]

00:43:38   right now it's just it's just a [TS]

00:43:40   non-starter and I think there's no [TS]

00:43:42   amount of like a wolf [TS]

00:43:43   government-subsidized these cars it [TS]

00:43:45   would just you know all they would have [TS]

00:43:47   to subsidize them in perpetuity until we [TS]

00:43:49   can get another another 20 years we get [TS]

00:43:51   two more doubling of energy density [TS]

00:43:53   assuming current trends continue because [TS]

00:43:54   this graph looks like a line it is not [TS]

00:43:56   like a curve so it's not like this is [TS]

00:43:57   accelerating or decelerating is just [TS]

00:43:59   slow steady progress [TS]

00:44:01   sorry and internal combustion engines [TS]

00:44:03   keep getting better as well so here's a [TS]

00:44:05   question I mean think about it think [TS]

00:44:07   about this first of all I to question is [TS]

00:44:10   do you do you foresee a future and no [TS]

00:44:12   and i'm sure this is probably a ways out [TS]

00:44:16   but do you foresee a future where [TS]

00:44:19   electric cars are cheaper than gas cars [TS]

00:44:20   because they are inherently simpler you [TS]

00:44:22   know like how long do you think it'll be [TS]

00:44:24   before that happens they're cheaper now [TS]

00:44:27   if you don't get any batteries in them [TS]

00:44:28   there [TS]

00:44:30   that's because that's you know that's [TS]

00:44:32   that's what goes on the like those two [TS]

00:44:34   electric motors that drive the wheels [TS]

00:44:36   compared to the number of parts in the [TS]

00:44:37   precision and write for for an internal [TS]

00:44:39   combustion engine [TS]

00:44:40   yeah i mean electric car should be [TS]

00:44:43   cheaper as assuming they can figure out [TS]

00:44:46   the battery thing is everything else [TS]

00:44:47   about them [TS]

00:44:48   there's so much stuff you don't need [TS]

00:44:49   this also many parts go away so many [TS]

00:44:51   things don't need to be manufactured [TS]

00:44:53   just so much stuff just disappears and [TS]

00:44:56   it it really like looking at Tesla and [TS]

00:44:58   tests are just shows you like wow [TS]

00:45:00   regular cars filled with a lot of crap [TS]

00:45:02   that you know that you don't strictly [TS]

00:45:05   need all the government looks at you [TS]

00:45:07   wouldn't you do add a lot i mean i i'm [TS]

00:45:09   sure it doesn't come close to closing [TS]

00:45:11   the gap but you do add a lot of weird [TS]

00:45:12   complex parts for for energy saving [TS]

00:45:14   purposes like regenerative breaking [TS]

00:45:16   things and like various tricks for all [TS]

00:45:19   the electrical components in the car to [TS]

00:45:20   save power like you lost like something [TS]

00:45:23   because like solid state state stuff is [TS]

00:45:25   the type of thing that gets you know [TS]

00:45:26   it's cheap it's not like it's not like a [TS]

00:45:28   traditional seen pieces of metal flying [TS]

00:45:30   past each other a little while it with [TS]

00:45:33   get out with exhaust gases and heat and [TS]

00:45:36   noise and yeah it's it's way less it [TS]

00:45:39   like no I don't know though because I [TS]

00:45:41   think you're over simple you're [TS]

00:45:42   oversimplifying a bit in the sense that [TS]

00:45:43   yes the engine unequivocally gets a lot [TS]

00:45:45   simpler but you still have a drivetrain [TS]

00:45:47   you still have suspension you still have [TS]

00:45:49   wheel bearings instead of steering but [TS]

00:45:51   you don't have a drivetrain to speak up [TS]

00:45:53   when the electric motors are hooked up [TS]

00:45:54   to the wheels i guess i can even have a [TS]

00:45:57   license [TS]

00:45:58   alright you mean you still have [TS]

00:46:00   suspension components and stuff like [TS]

00:46:02   that thing where but like and you also [TS]

00:46:03   still have the other thing you know you [TS]

00:46:05   might not think about when you look at [TS]

00:46:06   the tassels they still also have to have [TS]

00:46:07   like on the test blood they have a you [TS]

00:46:10   know that the pump further for the power [TS]

00:46:12   steering [TS]

00:46:13   I think it's not electrical power [TS]

00:46:14   steering which is strange i think it's [TS]

00:46:15   actually a hydraulic pump that the pump [TS]

00:46:17   the gas you know that hydraulic brakes [TS]

00:46:20   they have the the little things going to [TS]

00:46:22   run the compressor for the air [TS]

00:46:23   conditioner right all these are [TS]

00:46:25   electric-powered things right but that [TS]

00:46:27   it's not just the things that drive the [TS]

00:46:29   wheels you need something for like [TS]

00:46:30   doesn't translate in the accessories [TS]

00:46:32   it's all ends up being electric but the [TS]

00:46:35   sheer amount of stuff that isn't there [TS]

00:46:37   is just so tremendous that these other [TS]

00:46:39   things it's kind of weird that they look [TS]

00:46:41   at this little you know they would like [TS]

00:46:43   the size of softballs like those you [TS]

00:46:44   know there's a little air-conditioning [TS]

00:46:45   compressor and there's a little pomp and [TS]

00:46:47   there's a little thing for the fan that [TS]

00:46:49   stuff will continue to coalesce into [TS]

00:46:52   like I presume some little single blob [TS]

00:46:56   in this future where all cars are [TS]

00:46:58   electric or on most cars or electric [TS]

00:47:00   where the really have it nailed down is [TS]

00:47:01   like it's like you know the LCD is the [TS]

00:47:03   internal combustion engine we have it [TS]

00:47:04   said so many years to hack on the [TS]

00:47:06   internal combustion engine this electric [TS]

00:47:07   motor is like the simple version before [TS]

00:47:09   we start the hack on it to death before [TS]

00:47:11   we've even electric motor sit around and [TS]

00:47:13   talk about electric car drive trains [TS]

00:47:14   will figure out all the tricks that you [TS]

00:47:16   have to do to make an electric cars [TS]

00:47:18   drivetrain plus human creature comforts [TS]

00:47:20   being an efficient package and will [TS]

00:47:22   iterate on that and I think that [TS]

00:47:24   iteration will look a little more like [TS]

00:47:26   iteration the technology industry then [TS]

00:47:29   sort of the mechanical reciprocating [TS]

00:47:32   metal lubricated parts iteration which [TS]

00:47:34   looks more like mechanical iteration [TS]

00:47:37   like it either [TS]

00:47:38   this certain barriers to materials and [TS]

00:47:41   cost of manufacturing and physical [TS]

00:47:42   tolerances that are pretty movable and [TS]

00:47:45   its really tough to make good progress [TS]

00:47:46   and those whereas if once we can make [TS]

00:47:48   something electric we can just keep [TS]

00:47:49   drinking that introducing the power and [TS]

00:47:51   you know doing a lot of stuff that's [TS]

00:47:53   very interesting . and if you think [TS]

00:47:55   about it i'll probably beat up for this [TS]

00:47:57   but to some degree the automobiles it [TS]

00:48:00   stands today is an extension of the [TS]

00:48:01   Industrial Revolution and that it's just [TS]

00:48:03   a very very revel it's a machine that's [TS]

00:48:05   been refined like you've been saying for [TS]

00:48:07   over and over and over again 400 years [TS]

00:48:08   but again to your point it i'm curious [TS]

00:48:12   to see what the future brings in terms [TS]

00:48:13   of electric cars because now we're [TS]

00:48:14   moving just like you said more towards [TS]

00:48:16   the information age towards transistors [TS]

00:48:18   towards solid-state and and I I feel [TS]

00:48:21   like it's time but just like you guys [TS]

00:48:23   have said either we need much better [TS]

00:48:24   batteries or we need much quicker [TS]

00:48:26   charging which [TS]

00:48:27   you could argue is saying the same thing [TS]

00:48:28   twice and I just I don't see how we're [TS]

00:48:30   gonna get there anytime soon but you [TS]

00:48:32   know i didn't think i'd be holding a [TS]

00:48:33   computer in my pocket 24 hours or more [TS]

00:48:36   than 24 hours a day but 10 hours a day [TS]

00:48:37   but you don't want it there on time [TS]

00:48:39   what no not when I'm sleeping more [TS]

00:48:42   careful you don't sleep in jeans on a [TS]

00:48:44   pocket with a song now [TS]

00:48:45   no sorry nor do I have a mock turtleneck [TS]

00:48:48   or anything like that [TS]

00:50:16   neutral [TS]

00:50:17   thanks guys thanks [TS]

00:50:20   alright so time for automatic yes but [TS]

00:50:24   are we done with a Ferrari anyone like [TS]

00:50:25   you talking about you're still talking [TS]

00:50:26   laferrari yeah along the engine the only [TS]

00:50:30   thing i think i'd like to add is that it [TS]

00:50:32   its it's one of those things where in [TS]

00:50:34   retrospect it seems inevitable but it's [TS]

00:50:35   surprising to me that we're just now [TS]

00:50:38   looking at the the drivetrains that we [TS]

00:50:41   have available to us in saying who you [TS]

00:50:43   know most internal combustion engines [TS]

00:50:45   they don't really come into their own [TS]

00:50:47   until really late in the RPM range [TS]

00:50:50   generally speaking and you know it's [TS]

00:50:52   interesting these electric engines we [TS]

00:50:53   have have a million torque for torques [TS]

00:50:57   if you're Jeremy Clarkson from 0 RPM and [TS]

00:50:59   just like you said earlier John you know [TS]

00:51:00   why don't we put these together and in [TS]

00:51:02   am surprised that the Ferrari is the law [TS]

00:51:04   of the ferrari laferrari cr0 to protect [TS]

00:51:07   me exactly is the first thing that there [TS]

00:51:10   is the first real supercar application [TS]

00:51:12   that I'm aware of that really puts the [TS]

00:51:13   two together for nothing but performance [TS]

00:51:15   and it seems in retrospect so obvious [TS]

00:51:17   you have the electric motor when you're [TS]

00:51:19   making no torque and you have the [TS]

00:51:20   internal combustion motor when you're [TS]

00:51:22   making a ton of torque while the [TS]

00:51:23   batteries are always the problem like we [TS]

00:51:25   do that if we could just have the [TS]

00:51:26   battery's not be inside the car maybe we [TS]

00:51:29   could being the the electricity to the [TS]

00:51:31   car through a high-power laser of some [TS]

00:51:32   kind maybe because that's you know [TS]

00:51:34   that's the problem is don't want the [TS]

00:51:36   microwave and simcity yeah so now I like [TS]

00:51:39   this what this doubling of energy [TS]

00:51:40   density of batteries in the past decade [TS]

00:51:42   is now got to the point where now also i [TS]

00:51:44   think that is me a sex doing this as [TS]

00:51:45   well having a some sort of hybrid thing [TS]

00:51:47   I don't know operated by the the portion [TS]

00:51:49   that BMW i8 is also doing it but we are [TS]

00:51:51   not talking about being with you anymore [TS]

00:51:52   because the shows too much about BMW [TS]

00:51:54   yeah it's not like I mean if this cars [TS]

00:51:57   is basically you know it's me it's an [TS]

00:51:59   804 horsepower v12 that revs to 9,000 [TS]

00:52:03   250 rpm which is insane and then just a [TS]

00:52:07   little bit of electricity that just a [TS]

00:52:08   little bit extra of like made the [TS]

00:52:10   batteries as small as we possibly can [TS]

00:52:12   not a big deal little bit of [TS]

00:52:14   regenerative thing here you go like and [TS]

00:52:17   they show the little big show the graph [TS]

00:52:18   of the tour curves like will overlap [TS]

00:52:20   these curves here's the engine here's [TS]

00:52:21   the electric motor and we add the two [TS]

00:52:23   curves together first day the electric [TS]

00:52:26   motor torque curve eventually starts the [TS]

00:52:27   tail off it very high rpm barely but it [TS]

00:52:29   does tail off a little bit whereas the [TS]

00:52:31   gas engine has a peak later on and then [TS]

00:52:33   slowly starts to an output right just uh [TS]

00:52:38   . also where you know going back to what [TS]

00:52:40   we were saying earlier about you know my [TS]

00:52:42   theory about whatever you're used to is [TS]

00:52:43   what you think is normal between turbo [TS]

00:52:45   and naturally aspirated engines imagine [TS]

00:52:49   once people get used to electric cars [TS]

00:52:51   all-electric car [TS]

00:52:52   I to go from that to a gas engine car [TS]

00:52:56   the gas engine car must just feel [TS]

00:52:58   incredibly clumsy and ancient by [TS]

00:53:00   comparison and I'm not feeling all that [TS]

00:53:03   torque that you have available with [TS]

00:53:04   electric you know by having this weird [TS]

00:53:06   complicated engine that's a no vibrating [TS]

00:53:09   and loud relatively speaking and you [TS]

00:53:12   know that it's got to just feel like I [TS]

00:53:14   don't like it'd be like riding this bike [TS]

00:53:16   riding like a rail cart that's stuck [TS]

00:53:19   behind a steam engine for that today [TS]

00:53:20   like it would be like using a CRT [TS]

00:53:22   monitor i think that's the closest one [TS]

00:53:24   because like once we cross that divide [TS]

00:53:25   no one wants to go back to CRT is a good [TS]

00:53:27   that curves thing with the staticky [TS]

00:53:29   stuff and the big giant wait that's not [TS]

00:53:31   so much space remember divergence for [TS]

00:53:34   convergence whatever it was that would [TS]

00:53:36   make the pixels misalign there three [TS]

00:53:37   colors of sweet pc monitors go here we [TS]

00:53:42   go here we go down that don't go down [TS]

00:53:44   that rabbit hole [TS]

00:53:45   are we done with the ferrari laferrari [TS]

00:53:46   well I don't really think there's one on [TS]

00:53:49   douchey way to say that you can either [TS]

00:53:50   just if you see dollar laferrari well [TS]

00:53:53   that's just come on that sounds terrible [TS]

00:53:55   you can't I couldn't say that in a [TS]

00:53:56   conversation i could say i got you [TS]

00:53:58   saying we start with that ugly is it [TS]

00:54:01   uglier than the ends are not uglier than [TS]

00:54:02   the ends up not absolutely this is just [TS]

00:54:06   not the kind of car I would ever buy so [TS]

00:54:08   I i really can't judge it I mean it [TS]

00:54:09   looks it almost looks to me like a like [TS]

00:54:12   a cartoon car like I just this is this [TS]

00:54:15   has never entered my world of things I [TS]

00:54:16   would ever consider driving around it [TS]

00:54:18   I don't think it looks like a cartoon [TS]

00:54:19   because if you look at that was that the [TS]

00:54:21   Lamborghini something with a V video or [TS]

00:54:24   something like that's terrible that [TS]

00:54:26   looks like a cartoon car ferrari I I [TS]

00:54:28   feel like has been has the best styling [TS]

00:54:31   among the top tier supercars because [TS]

00:54:33   they make their cars interesting and not [TS]

00:54:35   but they don't like lozenges they don't [TS]

00:54:37   look like a smooth stone polished in a [TS]

00:54:40   river like they have personality but [TS]

00:54:42   they don't look like something that is [TS]

00:54:44   six-year-old withdraw without fins and [TS]

00:54:46   wings and how much of the stuff sticking [TS]

00:54:47   out of it so well I barely remember [TS]

00:54:49   something an eight-year-old right LOL no [TS]

00:54:52   i think i think this there is a [TS]

00:54:54   sophistication to this i think this [TS]

00:54:56   particular one is much much more [TS]

00:54:58   successful incarnation of this sort of [TS]

00:55:01   style of car than the Enzo was the Enzo [TS]

00:55:03   had some awkward bits on it [TS]

00:55:05   all these cars are basically like a [TS]

00:55:07   carbon fibre tub bolted to an engine [TS]

00:55:09   with suspension on it and then you have [TS]

00:55:11   to figure it out put a car body over it [TS]

00:55:13   so kind of like an f1 car like styling [TS]

00:55:16   is not they have limited freedom and [TS]

00:55:18   styling with this car because his car is [TS]

00:55:20   not about just looking beautiful as [TS]

00:55:22   their top and performance car and if you [TS]

00:55:23   have to compromise between styling [TS]

00:55:25   performance and this this is the car [TS]

00:55:26   ferrari says actually no we got a whole [TS]

00:55:28   blind performances the whole . this car [TS]

00:55:30   exist and across the bazillion dollars [TS]

00:55:32   so it better be fast but i think they do [TS]

00:55:34   a much better job with the styling than [TS]

00:55:36   their competitors including the McLaren [TS]

00:55:38   p1 which I think was like a a giant fish [TS]

00:55:41   or snail or some other kind of ugly [TS]

00:55:43   thing I still think the other Ferraris [TS]

00:55:46   are better looking than this but there [TS]

00:55:48   they can be because they can afford to [TS]

00:55:49   be because they don't have to be so [TS]

00:55:51   uncompromising about performance but I i [TS]

00:55:54   give this following a pretty big thumbs [TS]

00:55:56   up especially after the dark times of [TS]

00:55:59   the endzone the f50 which were not [TS]

00:56:00   attractive cars [TS]

00:56:03   i mean i-i think it looks good but yeah [TS]

00:56:05   I just it i can't really judge was not [TS]

00:56:08   for me i got nothing for me lately like [TS]

00:56:11   like learning a car like i can look at a [TS]

00:56:13   really nice-looking car but if I if I [TS]

00:56:17   later learn that that like the inside is [TS]

00:56:21   kind of like the interior is kind of [TS]

00:56:22   crappy or it doesn't ride very well or [TS]

00:56:25   it's just like really impractical that [TS]

00:56:27   it's kinda like like finding out that [TS]

00:56:29   are really attractive person is like [TS]

00:56:31   really crazy or stupid or mean it's like [TS]

00:56:34   you just like like I can't I can't enjoy [TS]

00:56:36   looking at cars like this or looking at [TS]

00:56:40   cars that I that I learn our are bad and [TS]

00:56:42   some other way even if they look good [TS]

00:56:44   I lose the ability to enjoy that once [TS]

00:56:47   once I start thinking about like [TS]

00:56:48   aspirationally what I want to own this [TS]

00:56:50   and I think [TS]

00:56:52   you know for all these different reasons [TS]

00:56:54   so I i kinda can enjoy it [TS]

00:56:56   so if you were to in the comedy of what [TS]

00:56:59   I'm about to say is i'm asking the [TS]

00:57:01   future / owner of an m5 but Marco money [TS]

00:57:03   no object [TS]

00:57:04   uh-huh what supercar do you think you [TS]

00:57:07   would have the m5 it could be for [TS]

00:57:09   exactly the reason i got an--oh okay [TS]

00:57:10   seriously car i thought so he said let's [TS]

00:57:13   assume you have infinite money which [TS]

00:57:14   means you already have like a car for [TS]

00:57:16   the family car and you have the car for [TS]

00:57:17   every day trips and now you have this [TS]

00:57:19   infinity pool of money like what about a [TS]

00:57:20   car for the days when I just want to go [TS]

00:57:22   to the track or just go out on the road [TS]

00:57:24   and just fool around no one else is [TS]

00:57:25   gonna drive this car could have one seat [TS]

00:57:27   for all you know this is the sole [TS]

00:57:28   purpose card its own separate house that [TS]

00:57:30   lives in with a staff that takes care of [TS]

00:57:32   right next to your house . here intact [TS]

00:57:34   your eyes that doesn't anyway and when [TS]

00:57:36   you want you just walk up and show for [TS]

00:57:39   brings it out for you and you're getting [TS]

00:57:40   what car is that car [TS]

00:57:41   honestly I don't know I've never thought [TS]

00:57:43   about that because well first of all in [TS]

00:57:45   many cases I think the m5 would still be [TS]

00:57:47   that car [TS]

00:57:48   uh I would but but I just I just think I [TS]

00:57:51   i don't know like I i don't i don't [TS]

00:57:54   fantasize about getting into some other [TS]

00:57:57   kind of like super high-end cars why [TS]

00:57:59   I've never even considered my options [TS]

00:58:00   even our yeah i think it like i can [TS]

00:58:03   imagine you being that person who would [TS]

00:58:04   like to figure out what it is like now [TS]

00:58:06   you've got this infinite money and you [TS]

00:58:07   got nothing to do with your time except [TS]

00:58:09   for you know figure out your stable cars [TS]

00:58:11   here like I want the car that I'm just [TS]

00:58:12   going to go and blaster and roads and [TS]

00:58:14   have fun with you might end up with [TS]

00:58:15   something like an Ariel Atom because you [TS]

00:58:17   may drive that and say whoo-whoo that's [TS]

00:58:19   the biggest blast gets insanely fast and [TS]

00:58:21   he opens a new sensation you don't get [TS]

00:58:23   for something else that is super car [TS]

00:58:25   like performance is also ugly as sin you [TS]

00:58:28   know maybe that's not a factor for you [TS]

00:58:29   in when purchasing this type of car [TS]

00:58:32   yeah I don't know I I just like I think [TS]

00:58:36   one of the reasons why i like the m5 so [TS]

00:58:38   much is because it is all those things [TS]

00:58:40   to me like I can I can have my key to me [TS]

00:58:43   i can have all of those like for me it [TS]

00:58:47   does although supercar roles that I want [TS]

00:58:49   you know in my fantasy world but it's [TS]

00:58:52   also a practical everyday car and it's [TS]

00:58:54   comfortable and has air conditioning and [TS]

00:58:56   a good radio like it has hot those [TS]

00:58:58   things like it it that's why I like it [TS]

00:59:00   so much and i know what I've always [TS]

00:59:02   liked to store thousands of things it [TS]

00:59:04   is much more than some you sure yet [TS]

00:59:07   already car it's much slower than all [TS]

00:59:09   these other supercars were talking about [TS]

00:59:10   in ways that you would actually notice [TS]

00:59:12   not like it's a tenth of a second slower [TS]

00:59:13   things are under two seconds to 60 you [TS]

00:59:16   would notice that difference it's like [TS]

00:59:17   twice as fast practically but we're not [TS]

00:59:19   be going that I could even I mean I I [TS]

00:59:21   don't even I can't even use the m5 [TS]

00:59:23   capacity where where I live and where I [TS]

00:59:25   Drive even if i was going to a track i [TS]

00:59:28   would like the m5 is so good on the [TS]

00:59:31   track it's so far beyond my abilities as [TS]

00:59:34   a driver to even take advantage of that [TS]

00:59:36   power that I feel like if I had [TS]

00:59:38   something even more powerful the only [TS]

00:59:40   reason the only way I would be able to [TS]

00:59:43   really take advantage of it is if I [TS]

00:59:44   became a full-time track driver and got [TS]

00:59:47   really good head and down 0-2 [TS]

00:59:50   what about it obviously on a track i [TS]

00:59:53   think you would prefer something not [TS]

00:59:57   like a miata maybe like that the-the-the [TS]

00:59:57   like a miata maybe like that the-the-the [TS]

01:00:00   rsr no subaru brz not because it would [TS]

01:00:03   be faster on the track but because like [TS]

01:00:05   if we gave you a choice like you had to [TS]

01:00:07   laugh this track in your iphone 5 and [TS]

01:00:08   then they gave you a much lighter weight [TS]

01:00:10   car that is just you know better suited [TS]

01:00:13   to the track even if you went around the [TS]

01:00:15   track slower because they don't have as [TS]

01:00:16   much power i think you would have more [TS]

01:00:18   fun because it's like better suited to [TS]

01:00:20   the track is definitely that's what this [TS]

01:00:22   section of your your stable cars is for [TS]

01:00:24   is not necessarily to make a mean and [TS]

01:00:26   that's why i said Ariel Atom you know it [TS]

01:00:28   is really fast it could be something [TS]

01:00:29   that is slower than your other car but [TS]

01:00:32   it's just more fun because it's like an [TS]

01:00:33   amusement-park ride and it feels [TS]

01:00:35   different when you're not swinging 4,000 [TS]

01:00:37   pounds around corners when you're [TS]

01:00:38   swinging half of that around corners [TS]

01:00:40   it just feels different and you don't [TS]

01:00:41   even feel faster while not being faster [TS]

01:00:45   honestly i think i think a something [TS]

01:00:49   like the Tesla Roadster might even be [TS]

01:00:51   the better choice for something like [TS]

01:00:53   that [TS]

01:00:54   like they make that anymore but yeah I [TS]

01:00:55   can if they didn't like I think you [TS]

01:00:56   would like the model s you should [TS]

01:00:58   probably actually take a test drive that [TS]

01:00:59   because the quality wanted to find out [TS]

01:01:01   how much for a test drive oh that's what [TS]

01:01:04   i said no thanks [TS]

01:01:05   the experience of being in that car like [TS]

01:01:07   i don't think it'll convince you to buy [TS]

01:01:08   one but it is a different enough [TS]

01:01:10   experience from being a regular gas car [TS]

01:01:12   and it is pretty high-end be feeling shy [TS]

01:01:15   in that car be with the low-end torque [TS]

01:01:17   and the silence and the just the novelty [TS]

01:01:20   of it is a different experience that you [TS]

01:01:22   give you a preview of what what cars [TS]

01:01:24   maybe like sometimes it isn't yet i [TS]

01:01:27   would love to ride in a Model S I just [TS]

01:01:28   haven't had the chance yet but uh me and [TS]

01:01:31   grant i haven't tried that hard like I [TS]

01:01:33   was that the one store in the mall by me [TS]

01:01:35   and they want 25 grand so I said no [TS]

01:01:36   thanks but you know I'm sure I could I [TS]

01:01:38   could email them and say hey I'm a car [TS]

01:01:40   podcaster hey maybe you can give me a [TS]

01:01:43   free press ride or a loner for a weekend [TS]

01:01:45   and drove behind me on my way home today [TS]

01:01:47   is that there are three miles [TS]

01:01:50   yeah i know i do still along behind me i [TS]

01:01:51   was getting nervous because like he was [TS]

01:01:53   coming up on me pretty fast like maybe [TS]

01:01:54   he doesn't know how to drive this thing [TS]

01:01:55   epic it doesn't look like i said once i [TS]

01:01:57   will let you drive it you can drive it [TS]

01:01:59   almost entirely with the right foot [TS]

01:02:00   where instead of hitting the brake you [TS]

01:02:01   just let off the gas and it's very well [TS]

01:02:03   enough Breaking so you can get into a [TS]

01:02:04   mode where you're just driving like a [TS]

01:02:05   golf cart but no breaks you know just [TS]

01:02:07   letting up do you think we're gonna have [TS]

01:02:09   a lot of rear-ending well I he was [TS]

01:02:11   coming up on me really fast like now you [TS]

01:02:13   I have to use the breaker use the brake [TS]

01:02:14   like I get paranoid about people coming [TS]

01:02:16   up on me too fast and it was an older [TS]

01:02:18   guy too and I'm you know they just [TS]

01:02:20   slamming imagine stop in time and he [TS]

01:02:23   pulled into I believe you pulled into [TS]

01:02:24   whole foods so there you go that is not [TS]

01:02:26   a surprise at all . and i say that as a [TS]

01:02:29   fan of high-end cars and a whole foods [TS]

01:02:30   customer but that is not a surprising [TS]

01:02:33   yeah so you're not going to nail down [TS]

01:02:35   what kind of car you would have to say [TS]

01:02:36   m5 what about you Casey absolutely [TS]

01:02:38   unequivocally without a shadow of a [TS]

01:02:40   doubt I would choose the wrong car which [TS]

01:02:42   is an Aston Martin not really any flavor [TS]

01:02:45   probably dds that's that's so wrong but [TS]

01:02:47   i can see the the the value system using [TS]

01:02:50   the pic that is is at the other extreme [TS]

01:02:51   from Marco but I'm i think I'm kind of [TS]

01:02:53   in the middle where you you are you want [TS]

01:02:56   to own something beautiful yes and that [TS]

01:02:59   it weighs heavily in your choice of what [TS]

01:03:02   car you're getting because it's not all [TS]

01:03:03   if it will help out how the car [TS]

01:03:04   performed you were not going to consider [TS]

01:03:06   Mars right right now yeah you get [TS]

01:03:08   something on a hammond likes i would [TS]

01:03:12   like the Pagani yeah he always liked the [TS]

01:03:14   ugly weirdo performance Scott yeah it [TS]

01:03:17   yeah everybody acting as Martin he wants [TS]

01:03:19   it's like it's like a piece of art or [TS]

01:03:21   sculpture it's like it because you want [TS]

01:03:23   to own a beautiful thing [TS]

01:03:24   yeah i definitely will say that like the [TS]

01:03:26   Aston Martin that's one of the only like [TS]

01:03:29   super high-end cars looked at and and [TS]

01:03:31   just like wanted just from a like I've [TS]

01:03:33   wanted in a physical way it's not like i [TS]

01:03:36   like i wanted to do bad things to the [TS]

01:03:37   muffler but like you know like you you [TS]

01:03:39   can look at that you can say that is a [TS]

01:03:41   beautiful obviously I I totally get that [TS]

01:03:43   although when I went to go pick up the [TS]

01:03:45   1am it at that [TS]

01:03:46   specialty dealer they had an estimate on [TS]

01:03:48   the show floor it was like an exotic car [TS]

01:03:50   dealer and I got to sit in it and it was [TS]

01:03:52   the first never been in one and I and I [TS]

01:03:54   was kind of disappointed I was like you [TS]

01:03:55   know this is nice and everything but [TS]

01:03:58   first of all you SAT really low to the [TS]

01:03:59   ground which I discussed last episode I [TS]

01:04:01   don't really like and it was just it [TS]

01:04:03   just sitting in it wasn't that thrilling [TS]

01:04:06   it wasn't really a car / forward Carl so [TS]

01:04:11   it has to two strikes against it but [TS]

01:04:14   yeah it i mean like i said in every way [TS]

01:04:16   it is completely wrong except that in my [TS]

01:04:18   personal opinion it is the most [TS]

01:04:20   beautiful car I've ever seen in my life [TS]

01:04:21   I mean it's just was stunningly pretty [TS]

01:04:23   and I although I would you could [TS]

01:04:27   very legitimately argue that the subaru [TS]

01:04:29   was not terribly pretty you could argue [TS]

01:04:31   that the three that the 335i actually [TS]

01:04:34   think it's pretty but you could argue it [TS]

01:04:35   isn't i think my 300zx still looks semi [TS]

01:04:39   modern and nobody will agree with me but [TS]

01:04:41   i think that that's true collaboration [TS]

01:04:43   that the big but I is the one that has [TS]

01:04:47   the big everything because I think [TS]

01:04:50   everybody's very survival is very [TS]

01:04:51   encouraging one [TS]

01:04:52   yeah very curvy I still find it to be [TS]

01:04:54   beautiful and it had to be honest as a [TS]

01:04:56   very similar lines to an Aston Martin [TS]

01:04:57   not what that's a terrible comparison [TS]

01:05:00   but to my weird I it has some more lines [TS]

01:05:02   to an Aston Martin and so I think the [TS]

01:05:04   acid is just an unbelievably just [TS]

01:05:06   painfully beautiful car in and even [TS]

01:05:09   though it's not as fast as it probably [TS]

01:05:10   should or could be it probably will [TS]

01:05:12   never work properly and I won't say [TS]

01:05:15   that's because it's British but it [TS]

01:05:17   nonetheless it's just it i think it [TS]

01:05:19   would be unbelievably fun I'd love one [TS]

01:05:22   that's the kind of car like we were [TS]

01:05:24   before we had the baby we were [TS]

01:05:25   discussing possibly taking like a [TS]

01:05:28   driving vacation after California too [TS]

01:05:30   and we we would rent a a supercar of [TS]

01:05:34   some kind and and drive along the [TS]

01:05:37   California coastline on whatever road [TS]

01:05:38   that is pacific coast highway that [TS]

01:05:42   yeah and we listen to this and and [TS]

01:05:44   there's a company after that will rent [TS]

01:05:46   you asked Martin but only automatic and [TS]

01:05:50   and that's why end and we eventually we [TS]

01:05:51   cancel the whole trip because I just [TS]

01:05:53   wish we could schedule it goes with [TS]

01:05:54   practicalities in life but that's like I [TS]

01:05:58   would gladly if I was like going on a [TS]

01:06:00   trip and going to rent something exotic [TS]

01:06:02   I i think i would still pick an ass and [TS]

01:06:03   I would hope if I could get a stick but [TS]

01:06:05   i would at least probably still pick it [TS]

01:06:07   anyway or i would get a Ferrari honestly [TS]

01:06:09   on especially cuz a lot of them you can [TS]

01:06:12   get a lot of the Old Forest sticks but [TS]

01:06:14   when you looked into Gotham did we got [TS]

01:06:17   ya and i was one of the companies and [TS]

01:06:19   they also got things automatically think [TS]

01:06:21   right yeah I was unfortunately nobody [TS]

01:06:23   can drive stick right and he would [TS]

01:06:25   destroy the clutch of this Ferrari [TS]

01:06:27   everytime directed it exactly right so [TS]

01:06:30   John what would you pick i know the [TS]

01:06:31   answer some sort of the pony but horsey [TS]

01:06:36   if you will but would it be the ferrari [TS]

01:06:38   laferrari for specific [TS]

01:06:39   now some my car my like my fantasy car [TS]

01:06:44   that I'd I i own it through by proxy [TS]

01:06:47   through a through force of will is [TS]

01:06:49   always the and now it has been the [TS]

01:06:51   middle-of-the-road mid-engine ferrari so [TS]

01:06:55   it was 348 then it was 355 then it was [TS]

01:06:57   360 that was the 430 now it's the 458 [TS]

01:07:00   that's my car at as ferrari keeps [TS]

01:07:03   upgrading at each time they produce a [TS]

01:07:05   new version i have to decide am I going [TS]

01:07:07   to continue saying this is my car this [TS]

01:07:09   line of cars or have they made it too [TS]

01:07:11   ugly for me or bad in some way so right [TS]

01:07:16   now would be it would be the 458 that [TS]

01:07:18   said if I had to choose between the 415 [TS]

01:07:21   laferrari it might be a difficult choice [TS]

01:07:23   because you just said the laferrari yeah [TS]

01:07:26   i know that they simply say it because [TS]

01:07:29   the the like the f50 and the Enzo were [TS]

01:07:33   just so and even have 40 for that matter [TS]

01:07:35   were just so objectionable to be [TS]

01:07:36   smelling whys and the reason i picked [TS]

01:07:37   for our instead of Lamborghini or any [TS]

01:07:39   other supercars that may be faster is [TS]

01:07:40   because i really like Ferrari styling I [TS]

01:07:42   think that they have they've struck the [TS]

01:07:45   right balance between something that [TS]

01:07:47   looks beautiful in something looks [TS]

01:07:48   functional and something that's a little [TS]

01:07:50   bit cool looking and I and they're [TS]

01:07:52   they're starting has been evolving like [TS]

01:07:54   from that you know from the Testarossa [TS]

01:07:55   348 with the big you know stripes on the [TS]

01:07:57   side you know that their evolution they [TS]

01:08:00   have lost me yet they haven't gone into [TS]

01:08:01   a bangle phase you know they haven't [TS]

01:08:04   they haven't really just gone off the [TS]

01:08:05   rails with the styling and that's really [TS]

01:08:08   a big part of why I want to listen not [TS]

01:08:10   just because it's fast and mechanical [TS]

01:08:11   Marvel but because it's fast and [TS]

01:08:13   mechanical Marvel and beautiful kind of [TS]

01:08:14   like that we you know like Apple [TS]

01:08:16   hardware you again and talk about the [TS]

01:08:18   mac pro briefly you know i like the idea [TS]

01:08:20   that something is incredibly powerful [TS]

01:08:23   and sophisticated and also beautiful [TS]

01:08:25   inside and out [TS]

01:08:26   right like the dual g5 is a good example [TS]

01:08:28   that we're stuck at 500 megahertz [TS]

01:08:30   forever with incredibly slow front side [TS]

01:08:32   bus and finally make a machine that's [TS]

01:08:34   going to break out of it and it was [TS]

01:08:35   beautiful inside and out that was like [TS]

01:08:37   the Ferrari of max for a brief moment in [TS]

01:08:39   time right up so that's why would [TS]

01:08:41   definitely be 4i probably 458 it [TS]

01:08:44   realistically speaking of money was an [TS]

01:08:46   infinite someone gave me laferrari i [TS]

01:08:48   would sell it get a 458 and like [TS]

01:08:50   no some sort of sedan and the 458 I mean [TS]

01:08:53   it is very pretty without without [TS]

01:08:55   question it is a very very pretty car so [TS]

01:08:58   i can . to be honest your answer is the [TS]

01:08:59   right answer but when you have this kind [TS]

01:09:02   of question and you answer from the [TS]

01:09:04   harder the gutter the groin or whatever [TS]

01:09:06   I would still stick in my Aston and i [TS]

01:09:09   would probably also entirely as not as [TS]

01:09:10   hard as I said that a some reason like [TS]

01:09:15   listings for high-end apartments in like [TS]

01:09:17   a note i want or whatever some some [TS]

01:09:18   agency where you were there lots of new [TS]

01:09:21   rich people or maybe with Russia even [TS]

01:09:23   and they will sell you high-rise [TS]

01:09:25   apartments where you drive your car and [TS]

01:09:27   your car goes open an elevator and it [TS]

01:09:29   comes up to your apartment with you and [TS]

01:09:31   it's it as a glass wall between the rest [TS]

01:09:33   of your apartment and the place where [TS]

01:09:34   your car is so you can look at all the [TS]

01:09:36   crap that's that is a feature something [TS]

01:09:39   because what you know half of the reason [TS]

01:09:41   i will be buying any of these cars is [TS]

01:09:42   because they're beautiful to look at and [TS]

01:09:44   I would like literally want to have it [TS]

01:09:46   not in my house but basically so when I [TS]

01:09:48   wake up in the morning I could eat [TS]

01:09:49   breakfast maybe a big glass wall on my [TS]

01:09:51   to ferrari sitting there that that is a [TS]

01:09:54   lifestyle improvement as far as I'm [TS]

01:09:55   concerned every night with although [TS]

01:09:57   hopefully would come with detailing [TS]

01:09:59   service also i mean i think it was [TS]

01:10:00   something right people keep it clean the [TS]

01:10:02   whole look like that seems that seems [TS]

01:10:03   silly but that is half the reason I [TS]

01:10:05   think a lot of people buy these cars [TS]

01:10:06   because they are because the reason you [TS]

01:10:08   know Casey's getting the ask them which [TS]

01:10:09   isn't is not a great car you know [TS]

01:10:11   because it's beautiful to look at him [TS]

01:10:12   looking at beautiful things makes you [TS]

01:10:13   happy [TS]

01:10:14   yeah although and that's my problem is [TS]

01:10:16   usually you don't spend a whole lot of [TS]

01:10:17   time looking at the outside of your own [TS]

01:10:19   car right and now you have occasion to [TS]

01:10:21   now truly in my perfect world I wake up [TS]

01:10:26   one morning I stretch and I look over at [TS]

01:10:28   aaron i'm extremely excited to wake up [TS]

01:10:30   next to hers I am every day and then I [TS]

01:10:32   look past Aaron and there's my Aston [TS]

01:10:34   just sitting there waiting both ladies [TS]

01:10:36   and the same bed [TS]

01:10:38   it's crowded it's crowded but we make it [TS]

01:10:41   work [TS]

01:10:45   give me a second i'm going to go get [TS]

01:10:47   something I'm gonna refill my drink here [TS]

01:10:48   and then we can do ATP you guys good [TS]

01:10:50   that's good i'm so what does Marco [TS]

01:10:54   drinking place your bets [TS]

01:10:55   haha he's got fizzy water don't kid [TS]

01:10:58   yourself [TS]

01:10:59   fizzy water I think so guess what i'm [TS]

01:11:02   drinking i don't know i don't even know [TS]

01:11:06   what you prefer are you a coffee person [TS]

01:11:07   usually so i'm drinking you're supposed [TS]

01:11:10   to guess I you seem like the type that [TS]

01:11:14   would enjoy tea but i'm gonna guess i'm [TS]

01:11:19   gonna guess you're having no with me [TS]

01:11:20   coffee [TS]

01:11:21   I'm gonna get some sort of bubbly [TS]

01:11:24   beverage some sort of soda remarkable [TS]

01:11:26   know when he comes back [TS]

01:11:29   yeah yeah I was trying to quit case you [TS]

01:11:34   know what I was drinking using what do [TS]

01:11:35   you think marcos drinking so you went [TS]

01:11:36   off to refill your drink [TS]

01:11:38   what do you think I said fizzy water he [TS]

01:11:41   has a beer at night but he's not gonna [TS]

01:11:42   refill that so I thought it was coffee [TS]

01:11:44   I got nothing that's that's my guess was [TS]

01:11:47   here yeah good for you [TS]

01:11:49   he does his beer tonight just just be [TS]

01:11:51   one you usually it is just one but i [TS]

01:11:54   decided to try to tonight one free [TS]

01:11:56   suncast alright well now I gotta go get [TS]

01:11:58   some more maker go forward to killing me [TS]

01:11:59   that and I i asked Casey what do you [TS]

01:12:01   think i'm drinking yeah I gotta hear [TS]

01:12:03   their health without a faith that Marcos [TS]

01:12:05   gonna know what your every answer this [TS]

01:12:06   run downstairs man i would guess just [TS]

01:12:11   just knowing you i would guess you're [TS]

01:12:13   drinking water correct you should not [TS]

01:12:15   even think about how do not fully [TS]

01:12:18   regulated touring tap water not bottled [TS]

01:12:22   water [TS]

01:12:23   honda civic of drinks haha i drink water [TS]

01:12:27   all day long that's what I drink I don't [TS]

01:12:28   have I don't have coffee [TS]

01:12:30   I don't drink alcohol not for any [TS]

01:12:32   particular reason I just don't like it [TS]

01:12:34   at water all day right speaking of let's [TS]

01:12:36   go get some makers of here enjoy like my [TS]

01:12:38   exciting thing that I have when I go out [TS]

01:12:39   to eat as i have soda 1 you know so once [TS]

01:12:44   every month and a half i have a1 [TS]

01:12:45   extremely watered-down sprite from a [TS]

01:12:48   restaurant that's really terrible now [TS]

01:12:52   it's not water is great i recently [TS]

01:12:54   discovered that you can you can flavor [TS]

01:12:56   soda stream water using cocktail bitters [TS]

01:12:59   so you can so now I got nothing you got [TS]

01:13:01   your infinite supply of those from your [TS]

01:13:03   experimentation [TS]

01:13:04   yes so now i have i can make myself lime [TS]

01:13:08   orange or even grapefruits elser it's [TS]

01:13:10   quite good [TS]

01:13:11   ok i just got back murder board a lime [TS]

01:13:13   is especially the best [TS]
