1: Big, Fat, and Bloated

00:00:00   what is it that makes somebody by a [TS]

00:00:02   white car all your dip [TS]

00:00:07   I I honestly want to know because it [TS]

00:00:09   seems like people who buy white cars [TS]

00:00:11   only ever buy white cars and then [TS]

00:00:14   there's other people and other people [TS]

00:00:16   never buy white cars like what what what [TS]

00:00:19   is that about somebody that that flips [TS]

00:00:22   that switch [TS]

00:00:23   I have a theory I complete can i hear [TS]

00:00:26   the theory before I don't know if I just [TS]

00:00:27   told you this theory before it's not [TS]

00:00:29   that it's not my theory it's a common [TS]

00:00:31   commonly known thing in the car industry [TS]

00:00:34   is basically and fashion as well if you [TS]

00:00:38   have a car or anything else that is kind [TS]

00:00:43   of ugly like it's in the shape and like [TS]

00:00:45   it's it's kind of lumpy and not good [TS]

00:00:47   looking at some awkward parts i get that [TS]

00:00:50   car in black because black hides the [TS]

00:00:54   parts of the car that aren't good [TS]

00:00:57   looking this is also the theory behind a [TS]

00:00:59   little black dress and my black is [TS]

00:01:01   quote/unquote slimming when you when you [TS]

00:01:03   wear it if you want to hide what's their [TS]

00:01:05   wear black or white is the opposite of [TS]

00:01:08   that if you love every single curve of [TS]

00:01:11   the sheet metal of a particular car [TS]

00:01:13   white will show every single curve of [TS]

00:01:15   the sheet metal my car and it's a good [TS]

00:01:17   test of whether you really like that [TS]

00:01:18   carpet when you see it and white and all [TS]

00:01:20   of a sudden like I've your dressing like [TS]

00:01:22   a white c6 corvette with the but look [TS]

00:01:24   humongous your google actually she's at [TS]

00:01:26   Korvettes but it's big but if you see a [TS]

00:01:28   black one the giant butt on the core [TS]

00:01:30   value like kind of linton doesn't look [TS]

00:01:31   so bad you know [TS]

00:01:33   so one theory and the white car is if [TS]

00:01:37   you really really like the the way the [TS]

00:01:39   sheet metal of the car looks in all [TS]

00:01:40   aspects and you want to see every single [TS]

00:01:42   part of it [TS]

00:01:43   get the car and white see if that were [TS]

00:01:46   true then I feel like there would be [TS]

00:01:48   more cross-pollination of people who [TS]

00:01:51   would own white cars and non-white cards [TS]

00:01:55   but i don't really see that a lot but I [TS]

00:01:56   usually see is people who have who only [TS]

00:01:58   ever have white cars and other people [TS]

00:02:01   who never have liked cars [TS]

00:02:02   well there's also the white is boring a [TS]

00:02:05   neutral cup camp and on the other side [TS]

00:02:07   of that there is the white shows dirt a [TS]

00:02:09   lot camp so there are other like more [TS]

00:02:11   mundane practical reasons to get white [TS]

00:02:13   not get lots of people avoid white [TS]

00:02:15   because of the dirt issue and lots of [TS]

00:02:16   people get white because like I can't [TS]

00:02:19   really decide what color I want this car [TS]

00:02:20   and and in particular the if you buy [TS]

00:02:22   cheap cars sometimes your choices are [TS]

00:02:24   only like white black and one ugly color [TS]

00:02:28   oh no it's gray gray and gray and silver [TS]

00:02:30   don't get sober yet great [TS]

00:02:32   don't worry they're still I was just [TS]

00:02:34   looking at the bottom line of course i'm [TS]

00:02:35   probably gonna get a new record sometime [TS]

00:02:37   this year or next and music if you get [TS]

00:02:40   on and I don't like my civic we'll talk [TS]

00:02:42   about that some other time being if you [TS]

00:02:45   get the bottom of the line accord with [TS]

00:02:47   the stick shift your you have three [TS]

00:02:49   color choices like white white black and [TS]

00:02:51   some ugly tank I don't think even get [TS]

00:02:52   silver is a choice i have to look at it [TS]

00:02:53   again and see what the exact colors of [TS]

00:02:55   but your choices are very limited and so [TS]

00:02:56   white ends up being like the like I [TS]

00:02:59   don't know they just the punch color [TS]

00:03:01   risky i always thought that was silver [TS]

00:03:04   because there was a time from probably [TS]

00:03:06   about two thousand two until maybe 2010 [TS]

00:03:11   where every car was available in 14 [TS]

00:03:16   shades of silver and then like black and [TS]

00:03:19   blue and white maybe and that was it [TS]

00:03:21   like all the other colors got pushed [TS]

00:03:23   away except in and usually like a [TS]

00:03:26   high-end sports car maybe then you can [TS]

00:03:27   get red or something but all the other [TS]

00:03:29   colors went away and you only had all [TS]

00:03:31   these different shades of silver and [TS]

00:03:32   every single car you saw on the road in [TS]

00:03:34   the last decade is silver and that seems [TS]

00:03:38   to finally come back now and it without [TS]

00:03:40   soothing light silver it wasn't it [TS]

00:03:42   wasn't even like the nice dark deep ones [TS]

00:03:44   that look kind of nice [TS]

00:03:45   it was like light silver so every car [TS]

00:03:47   look the same not even nice with the [TS]

00:03:49   DeLorean like just light silver that's [TS]

00:03:52   not paint another Lauren yeah i know [TS]

00:03:54   it's okay and cause the proud owner of a [TS]

00:03:57   white car why don't you not just one [TS]

00:04:00   white car you all the secrets of the [TS]

00:04:02   wheels car [TS]

00:04:03   this goes back quite a way so actually [TS]

00:04:05   one of the things I figured we could [TS]

00:04:06   talk about it some juncture was our [TS]

00:04:08   individual car histories and actually to [TS]

00:04:10   answer this question I need to go back [TS]

00:04:12   through my individual car history so [TS]

00:04:14   that time as any [TS]

00:04:16   yeah so I hope you have to tell us about [TS]

00:04:17   all of your white cars yeah i did this [TS]

00:04:19   is true so when I started driving my dad [TS]

00:04:22   had a 1994 saturn sl2 [TS]

00:04:25   which I think was like 16 grand off the [TS]

00:04:28   showroom floor or something like that [TS]

00:04:30   the thing was a piece of garbage the [TS]

00:04:32   moment it rolled off the assembly line [TS]

00:04:34   with its plastic panels and the whole [TS]

00:04:36   rigmarole but it was as nice of a piece [TS]

00:04:40   of garbage you can get I suppose that [TS]

00:04:41   was white as well as glowing [TS]

00:04:44   recommendation [TS]

00:04:45   yeah actually I love that car until one [TS]

00:04:47   of the wheels fell off as I was driving [TS]

00:04:49   by the way is another story I'd like to [TS]

00:04:51   tell at some point see I'm already [TS]

00:04:52   foreshadowing I can handle this but then [TS]

00:04:56   after that by pure happenstance we had a [TS]

00:05:00   friend of my dad's had 1991 300zx the [TS]

00:05:04   non turbo very boring overweight and [TS]

00:05:07   generally useless kind and that was [TS]

00:05:10   white and we ended up my my parents [TS]

00:05:12   ended up buying that is a fun car [TS]

00:05:14   because it had t-tops which kids these [TS]

00:05:16   days don't even know what those are but [TS]

00:05:18   suffice to say you could remove two [TS]

00:05:20   panels on the roof of the car and and [TS]

00:05:21   you only have one small sliver of [TS]

00:05:23   structure between them and that was [TS]

00:05:26   white and when I graduate or why was my [TS]

00:05:28   spring semester senior college I bought [TS]

00:05:32   that car car off my parents and i drove [TS]

00:05:34   that and so now I've gone from Saturn to [TS]

00:05:36   300zx both white [TS]

00:05:39   well this 300zx ended up always being [TS]

00:05:41   broken [TS]

00:05:42   go figure because it was a 91 in this [TS]

00:05:44   was 2004 so at some point I thought well [TS]

00:05:49   you know what if I'm gonna pay five [TS]

00:05:50   hundred dollars a month in mechanics [TS]

00:05:52   fees why don't I just buy a new car and [TS]

00:05:54   pay the four five hundred dollars a [TS]

00:05:56   month or whatever it may be to to a loan [TS]

00:05:59   and I decided to get a subaru legacy gt [TS]

00:06:03   so it was pretty much all the speed of [TS]

00:06:06   the WRX but none of the boy racer look [TS]

00:06:09   at me kind of looks and just trying to [TS]

00:06:12   holders and that sometime by the way you [TS]

00:06:13   have what i know and so just by virtue [TS]

00:06:16   of the fact that i've had two white cars [TS]

00:06:18   before oh and by the way when the Z was [TS]

00:06:19   broken i borrowed my dad's white [TS]

00:06:21   wrangler and so by virtue of always [TS]

00:06:25   having been in white cars i figured well [TS]

00:06:27   the hell with it i'll just get it and [TS]

00:06:28   white and I bought that that subaru new [TS]

00:06:30   well then just a few months ago I [TS]

00:06:33   decided while the subaru is starting to [TS]

00:06:35   spend more time off the road than on so [TS]

00:06:37   let me finally turning [TS]

00:06:39   to a complete program or remove all [TS]

00:06:41   doubt from the fact that I'm a complete [TS]

00:06:43   print and let me following our good [TS]

00:06:45   friend Marcos footsteps and get myself a [TS]

00:06:47   3-series and it was by pure happenstance [TS]

00:06:50   that I got a white 335 and actually I [TS]

00:06:53   had nearly bought i am going to butcher [TS]

00:06:55   the the name of the blue but i want to [TS]

00:06:58   say was a laguna seca blew it was a BMW [TS]

00:07:00   individual color from that if i'm not [TS]

00:07:02   mistaken i almost bought a 335 that had [TS]

00:07:05   that unbelievably pretty blue but the [TS]

00:07:07   deal fell through and I just so happened [TS]

00:07:09   to find this one in white so to be [TS]

00:07:11   honest with you for this car I had no [TS]

00:07:13   intention of buying a white one it was [TS]

00:07:15   just by pure happenstance that that's [TS]

00:07:17   how it worked out [TS]

00:07:18   and of course now Marco mercilessly [TS]

00:07:19   makes fun of me for the fact that I've [TS]

00:07:22   always heard from white cars see if if [TS]

00:07:23   if it had only been if this was your [TS]

00:07:25   second white car or your third white car [TS]

00:07:28   I would believe that story [TS]

00:07:30   well it is my third if you don't count [TS]

00:07:33   the time when I borrowed dad's wrangler [TS]

00:07:34   well and and the ones you had before it [TS]

00:07:37   sounds like it's like what your fifth [TS]

00:07:38   know it's the saturn the Z the borrowed [TS]

00:07:41   wrangler and then the go into Superman [TS]

00:07:44   73 this would be should got your day so [TS]

00:07:48   this is the this is the fourth sir at [TS]

00:07:51   this incessant now John I i never have [TS]

00:07:54   asked you what color your car is my [TS]

00:07:55   karai have not known until this point [TS]

00:07:57   however I just assumed just by knowing [TS]

00:07:59   you that you could not possibly be a [TS]

00:08:02   white car person I'm not a white car [TS]

00:08:04   person but my first car that I ever [TS]

00:08:06   owned was white not because I picked up [TS]

00:08:08   because I inherited from my parents as [TS]

00:08:10   to help in the case you and i'm not sure [TS]

00:08:12   why they picked white in it [TS]

00:08:14   I didn't mind though it was 92 civic I [TS]

00:08:18   didn't mind quite in my car but it [TS]

00:08:19   certainly was not the color that I would [TS]

00:08:21   have picked if I bought it myself but it [TS]

00:08:24   everything for the reasons I decided [TS]

00:08:25   before if there's anything I don't like [TS]

00:08:27   about the shape of a car no way I'm [TS]

00:08:29   gonna get in white and even if i did [TS]

00:08:31   like everything about the shape of the [TS]

00:08:32   car I which is rare i would be worried [TS]

00:08:37   about dirt and white cars do look kind [TS]

00:08:38   of scummy especially if you're you know [TS]

00:08:39   New England the winter they get all [TS]

00:08:41   gross like the same reason the black [TS]

00:08:43   cars kind of maintenance headache where [TS]

00:08:44   it looks great when it's all black and [TS]

00:08:45   sleep but then the road salt covers the [TS]

00:08:47   whole bottom third of the car it's not [TS]

00:08:49   looking so hot name [TS]

00:08:49   I i think you know anytime you bring up [TS]

00:08:52   car color choices you always hear this [TS]

00:08:53   argument about dirt and showing dirt and [TS]

00:08:55   everything else I think it's all just [TS]

00:08:57   total i I really don't think that [TS]

00:08:59   different colors really show or hide [TS]

00:09:01   dirt any better than other colors it in [TS]

00:09:03   a meaningful difference because you know [TS]

00:09:06   the fact is cars with these highly [TS]

00:09:08   polished clear-coated beautiful and [TS]

00:09:10   sometimes these metallic colors that [TS]

00:09:12   look really nice [TS]

00:09:13   there's these these huge sheets of [TS]

00:09:15   usually curved metal that that are [TS]

00:09:18   highly polished and painted like this [TS]

00:09:20   and look awesome when they're clean [TS]

00:09:21   if you put down any of those colors [TS]

00:09:23   you're going to see it especially if you [TS]

00:09:24   put a lot of dirt like if you're driving [TS]

00:09:26   on salty roads are in on dirt roads or [TS]

00:09:28   any point that like you're going to see [TS]

00:09:30   that regardless of our color you have [TS]

00:09:31   but it's like it's the missing effect [TS]

00:09:33   like an England especially in the winter [TS]

00:09:35   when you have the spray and the salt [TS]

00:09:37   like you get the white missing and a [TS]

00:09:39   white missing over a pure black car [TS]

00:09:41   radically changes the color whereas i'm [TS]

00:09:43   not white missing over say a silver car [TS]

00:09:45   very subtly changes the color obviously [TS]

00:09:48   gloss is always going to go away from [TS]

00:09:49   dirt but salt in particular because it's [TS]

00:09:52   not like localized it's you know very [TS]

00:09:54   subtle it will be very subtle on a car [TS]

00:09:56   that kind of matches the color of road [TS]

00:09:58   salt kind of neutral whereas on a on a [TS]

00:10:00   black car with totally show up in white [TS]

00:10:01   it's the the mud and dirt factory you [TS]

00:10:04   can get a surprising amount of like [TS]

00:10:05   sprayed on mud on the bottom part of [TS]

00:10:08   like a forest green car and it will be [TS]

00:10:10   like what kind of lenses but you get [TS]

00:10:11   that in a white garlic someone to a dump [TS]

00:10:13   on the bottom of your car is just [TS]

00:10:15   terrible looking [TS]

00:10:16   are you sure that's not because if you [TS]

00:10:17   see a forest green car in 2013 it's [TS]

00:10:20   probably like 94 camry which already [TS]

00:10:23   looks kinda crappy and their that [TS]

00:10:24   integer low that is definitely on energy [TS]

00:10:26   insider camry or it's the subaru outback [TS]

00:10:30   wagon that hasn't died from like 2001 or [TS]

00:10:34   95 i just tried to put a link into the [TS]

00:10:36   two cat things because i can't find a [TS]

00:10:38   group chat room of this laguna seca blue [TS]

00:10:41   yeah it wasn't going to say it's LeMond [TS]

00:10:43   I was wrong [TS]

00:10:44   hope is that blue is not good now that [TS]

00:10:46   blue see that in french i mean i just [TS]

00:10:48   tried it I don't even know that how you [TS]

00:10:49   say it I'm not gonna try [TS]

00:10:51   that's because you're smart i actually [TS]

00:10:52   just paste it in the group chat area [TS]

00:10:54   because i can find it because i know how [TS]

00:10:55   to use it not just your life with her [TS]

00:10:57   is it roic let's see what we got here I [TS]

00:11:02   think this podcast contain as much [TS]

00:11:03   clicking this time and typing as [TS]

00:11:04   possible because everyone likes [TS]

00:11:06   listening to the yeah that's that's [TS]

00:11:08   that's a nice blend a decent blue is [TS]

00:11:10   yours a group [TS]

00:11:11   no mine is not mine is a four-door I the [TS]

00:11:14   only Cooper had is Suzie and while it [TS]

00:11:17   was fun i don't think i'll ever do it [TS]

00:11:18   again the coop has better-looking [TS]

00:11:21   headlights in a better looking around [TS]

00:11:22   the city in so handy so are you kind of [TS]

00:11:26   like a rear-end guy with cars now I [TS]

00:11:30   don't think I'm just saying that certain [TS]

00:11:31   cars have how about your women different [TS]

00:11:34   at different characteristics that would [TS]

00:11:36   stand out [TS]

00:11:37   well I found I found over time that that [TS]

00:11:40   what I look at in a car like that the [TS]

00:11:44   features that i care alot of that have [TS]

00:11:45   changed and so more recently I i just [TS]

00:11:49   had to place an order for my next car [TS]

00:11:51   because my lease is going to expire and [TS]

00:11:53   we'll talk about that some other time [TS]

00:11:54   but this is the first time ever i've [TS]

00:11:57   ever purchased a car or I've given a [TS]

00:12:00   crap at all about the wheels like wheel [TS]

00:12:04   styling is this whole different world [TS]

00:12:07   the first time really all the usually [TS]

00:12:09   scars I've had the ones i've gotten used [TS]

00:12:12   I haven't even noticed the wheels and [TS]

00:12:13   the ones I've gotten to I just picked [TS]

00:12:15   the stock wheels whatever they came with [TS]

00:12:17   I'd never have paid extra for premium [TS]

00:12:19   wheels or anything like that i always [TS]

00:12:20   thought that was like rims on I've ever [TS]

00:12:22   even purchased tire i thought that was [TS]

00:12:24   the most common thing that even like [TS]

00:12:26   non-car people would be picky about I [TS]

00:12:28   thought that was like them you know the [TS]

00:12:29   the lowest-hanging fruit of once you [TS]

00:12:32   become interested in cars appearance [TS]

00:12:33   wheels right away now am I crazy [TS]

00:12:36   no I would agree with that and actually [TS]

00:12:37   one of the things so the 335 that I got [TS]

00:12:40   it was impossible to find because I was [TS]

00:12:42   trying to get one used and and I wanted [TS]

00:12:45   one with the m-sport package and so this [TS]

00:12:46   actually ties into what both were saying [TS]

00:12:48   the m-sport package of him honest is [TS]

00:12:50   really an obnoxious I'm gonna put [TS]

00:12:52   aesthetic cladding all over the car that [TS]

00:12:55   makes it seem like it's closer to an m3 [TS]

00:12:58   but it's not and the reason i wanted it [TS]

00:13:00   was because the front air dam I way low [TS]

00:13:03   below the kidneys on the front of the [TS]

00:13:04   car is quite a bit bigger than the [TS]

00:13:07   standard be 93 series and i think it [TS]

00:13:09   makes a world of difference so [TS]

00:13:11   for me to your point Marco I never used [TS]

00:13:13   to care about an air dam but now I feel [TS]

00:13:15   like that makes a world of difference in [TS]

00:13:17   the other thing about it that I really [TS]

00:13:18   loved were the wheels and the the link [TS]

00:13:21   that i pasted in the chat with the look [TS]

00:13:23   at the lemond blue has different wheels [TS]

00:13:26   even though i believe that is named [TS]

00:13:27   sport but the point I'm driving it is i [TS]

00:13:29   would agree that wheels are even amongst [TS]

00:13:31   non card weeds are one of the things [TS]

00:13:35   that almost anyone will look at because [TS]

00:13:36   that's why they're all the aftermarket [TS]

00:13:38   rim market is so packed because you know [TS]

00:13:39   people who may not be that the cars that [TS]

00:13:41   like the wheels jump out at you I would [TS]

00:13:43   break down car aesthetics into like [TS]

00:13:44   pieces named after body parts because [TS]

00:13:46   the way we do it [TS]

00:13:47   there's the face of the car like you [TS]

00:13:50   know the front of it BMW have this thing [TS]

00:13:51   to face with the headlights as being the [TS]

00:13:53   eyes and kind of the the grill is being [TS]

00:13:55   the nose and mouth and stuff like that [TS]

00:13:56   there is the tale of the car was kind of [TS]

00:13:59   the cars but and you can have you know a [TS]

00:14:01   big fat but low squat butter whatever [TS]

00:14:03   and then I did the neck the other pieces [TS]

00:14:07   like the overall shape like how long are [TS]

00:14:10   the overhang is it like cab foreigner [TS]

00:14:12   cab backwards that have a humongous hood [TS]

00:14:14   in a little bubble on the backers and [TS]

00:14:15   more centered it's the reason it's the [TS]

00:14:17   reason mid-engined cars look so exotic [TS]

00:14:18   desk because the position of the engine [TS]

00:14:20   allows the overall shape of the car with [TS]

00:14:22   different regardless of the details of [TS]

00:14:23   the face regardless of details of the [TS]

00:14:24   butts or even the sides or anything [TS]

00:14:26   mid-engined cars look different because [TS]

00:14:28   the overall shape is different that's [TS]

00:14:29   why you know 911 looks different because [TS]

00:14:31   the engines in the back [TS]

00:14:32   those are the major components of a car [TS]

00:14:36   and of course the wheel so we just [TS]

00:14:37   talked about and everything after that [TS]

00:14:38   if you like these details like I don't [TS]

00:14:40   like the body cladding or the scoops on [TS]

00:14:42   the side or ugly or you know one of my [TS]

00:14:45   everyone has their own little individual [TS]

00:14:47   peeves one of my peeves is a side view [TS]

00:14:50   mirrors the way they're integrated into [TS]

00:14:53   the rest of the car can really be [TS]

00:14:54   off-putting to me especially on some [TS]

00:14:56   super cars when they get fancy [TS]

00:14:59   that's an interesting thing to pay [TS]

00:15:01   attention it's an idiosyncrasy like [TS]

00:15:03   wearing about somebody's ears all right [TS]

00:15:05   now it's not caring about someone [TS]

00:15:06   cuticle see what about bugs me is I i [TS]

00:15:11   recently gotten you know as since I've [TS]

00:15:14   been in the market for a car the last [TS]

00:15:15   couple months I've been [TS]

00:15:17   and paying a lot more attention to the [TS]

00:15:18   ones i see on the road because whenever [TS]

00:15:19   whenever a new car for me is near I get [TS]

00:15:23   totally obsessed the same way you [TS]

00:15:25   research toasters John I get totally [TS]

00:15:26   obsessed and and pay attention to [TS]

00:15:28   everything on the road and do all these [TS]

00:15:29   races all this research I cannot for the [TS]

00:15:32   life of me figure out how tioga has not [TS]

00:15:35   sued hyundai have you seen I I gotta [TS]

00:15:39   find a picture first of all we have to [TS]

00:15:41   create show notes i have to create a way [TS]

00:15:43   for those to appear and then i'll put a [TS]

00:15:44   link to these in these in these mystery [TS]

00:15:46   show notes [TS]

00:15:47   have you seen a recent hyundai sedan [TS]

00:15:50   recent now now I think they have parts [TS]

00:15:53   of their distinctively hyundai like I [TS]

00:15:55   don't think they look as much like todos [TS]

00:15:57   is you're making it out to be [TS]

00:15:59   because when i see a Hyundai it looks [TS]

00:16:01   like a Toyota that has made with the [TS]

00:16:05   swamp thing because they have two arms [TS]

00:16:08   of kind of lots of kind of weird like [TS]

00:16:10   aquatic creases fins and and striations [TS]

00:16:15   that Toyota doesn't do toad was far less [TS]

00:16:19   like bars of something that used to be [TS]

00:16:20   but now I very distinct an Irish bring [TS]

00:16:24   your done probably died know this stuff [TS]

00:16:29   has chiseled edges it's more like a dog [TS]

00:16:32   that's been sitting in the back up for [TS]

00:16:33   awhile hardware bunch of nerds basic [TS]

00:16:36   you're right know that I think with [TS]

00:16:38   Hyundai what what what bothered me the [TS]

00:16:40   most i wasn't i was in a parking lot i [TS]

00:16:42   was driving through and I saw a Hyundai [TS]

00:16:43   something so band but and build the [TS]

00:16:46   badge the logo badge on it first of all [TS]

00:16:49   the the styling of the Hyundai badge you [TS]

00:16:52   can tell it is intentionally a lot like [TS]

00:16:55   the positive edge you know I can have [TS]

00:16:56   its like the metal inside the oval with [TS]

00:16:58   the big kind of the diagonalization it's [TS]

00:17:00   all kind of sweep like it looks very [TS]

00:17:02   similar to the tree bench and then you [TS]

00:17:05   know how it with toyota and lexus they [TS]

00:17:07   do that obnoxious thing where they have [TS]

00:17:08   like the different faded blue tint [TS]

00:17:11   inside the badge for hybrid vehicles [TS]

00:17:13   using that kept updated the exact same [TS]

00:17:18   thing on Monday but i don't know i don't [TS]

00:17:20   even know whether it needs to be hybrid [TS]

00:17:22   for them or not it look the Hyundai [TS]

00:17:23   badge that I saw it is it looks exactly [TS]

00:17:26   like the Toyota hybrid badge [TS]

00:17:30   and let and even like oh it was a sonata [TS]

00:17:32   can remember even seeing the word sanada [TS]

00:17:34   on the trunk lid like it looked the same [TS]

00:17:36   style the Toyota uses when they put [TS]

00:17:38   camera no it's it was such a blatant rip [TS]

00:17:41   III was like I i tried to take a picture [TS]

00:17:43   of I had enough time to make sure they [TS]

00:17:45   don't use a Toyota hybrid powertrain a [TS]

00:17:48   lot of make carmakers do license that [TS]

00:17:50   from Toyota and use it so could be [TS]

00:17:51   they're actually using that power to me [TS]

00:17:52   that's it yeah you're right maybe that [TS]

00:17:54   could be it but you think they would [TS]

00:17:56   because it seemed like on tons of people [TS]

00:17:59   do that i'm always amazed at like 100 [TS]

00:18:02   competitors will license each other [TS]

00:18:04   stuff because like we don't have a one [TS]

00:18:06   of these and they do and despite the [TS]

00:18:07   fact that were deadly enemies will like [TS]

00:18:09   okay we'll just use their stuff looks [TS]

00:18:11   like the Toyota biru the god I'm drawing [TS]

00:18:14   a blank [TS]

00:18:15   the subaru brz and am 6i think the same [TS]

00:18:19   as the ford probe and the was the other [TS]

00:18:21   one come on our people for pro but it's [TS]

00:18:23   doing it was the oh there with the know [TS]

00:18:26   i'm wrong but one of the European things [TS]

00:18:28   that they mentioned on top here that i [TS]

00:18:30   always forget about you guys can both be [TS]

00:18:31   too young the ford probe had a twin that [TS]

00:18:33   I believe was a monstery going back [TS]

00:18:35   father was the law of the plymouth laser [TS]

00:18:36   466 now LOL sedan anyway that there's [TS]

00:18:41   been these these twin cars like the [TS]

00:18:43   current FRS and brz from many different [TS]

00:18:46   makers and the ford probe was one of the [TS]

00:18:47   twins and I forget where the other one [TS]

00:18:49   was and the plymouth laser was twins [TS]

00:18:51   with the eagle talon that's a little bit [TS]

00:18:52   different because both jam but when the [TS]

00:18:56   talent was the mitsubishi eclipse 20th [TS]

00:18:58   got out I was somehow the Japanese when [TS]

00:19:00   you mitsubishi eclipse the the one with [TS]

00:19:03   laser in the Ford the eagle talon where [TS]

00:19:06   the same car and the ford probe is the [TS]

00:19:08   same car is some maybe maza thing afford [TS]

00:19:11   it must have been always been close but [TS]

00:19:12   yeah that that happens a lot and like [TS]

00:19:15   the super thing is weird because like [TS]

00:19:16   big favor he like wait a second you you [TS]

00:19:19   pick the powertrain from subaru that's [TS]

00:19:21   what you picked from the super part of [TS]

00:19:22   this partnership and people love [TS]

00:19:24   horizontally-opposed engines Casey love [TS]

00:19:26   them i will all based on one purchase [TS]

00:19:29   and how I love horizontally-opposed into [TS]

00:19:31   you love the wine got actually shimmy in [TS]

00:19:34   the wine it's funny because one of the [TS]

00:19:36   things that that struck me so odd about [TS]

00:19:39   the legacy was that despite being a [TS]

00:19:41   turbocharged car you could never ever [TS]

00:19:42   here [TS]

00:19:43   the hits of the turbo and one of the [TS]

00:19:45   things that I actually do not like about [TS]

00:19:47   the 335 is that I can actually hear blow [TS]

00:19:49   off valve so now i sound like one of [TS]

00:19:51   those douchebag kids that used to drive [TS]

00:19:52   around campus when I was included in [TS]

00:19:54   school with their you know that new at [TS]

00:19:57   the time WRX is with these you blow off [TS]

00:19:59   valves and so they just dropped you [TS]

00:20:01   drive around stand on the gas from 0 to [TS]

00:20:04   10 miles an hour and shifts all you [TS]

00:20:06   here's lops and that's what we heard [TS]

00:20:09   over and over again and it was [TS]

00:20:10   ridiculous and I i guess it's just [TS]

00:20:13   because I'm so sensitive to it but I can [TS]

00:20:14   hear the blow-off valve in the 335 or [TS]

00:20:17   maybe it's a recirculating valve which [TS]

00:20:18   is I think how the subaru worked but [TS]

00:20:20   whatever it is I here nevermind we have [TS]

00:20:22   a blow-off valve and it drives me [TS]

00:20:23   berserk [TS]

00:20:24   see I don't know much about how these [TS]

00:20:26   things actually work and and what the [TS]

00:20:27   sounds of them hearing this and I i [TS]

00:20:30   attribute most turbocharged cars is in [TS]

00:20:34   the exhaust note when you lift off the [TS]

00:20:36   gas and I think it's the wastegate if [TS]

00:20:38   I've heard these terms correctly and it [TS]

00:20:41   kind of sounds like the exhaust like has [TS]

00:20:43   like a congested throat for a second you [TS]

00:20:46   know talking about [TS]

00:20:47   yeah that's it from the turbo i'm not [TS]

00:20:52   sure which one it is but the wastegate [TS]

00:20:53   it [TS]

00:20:53   well I am no mechanic but my [TS]

00:20:55   understanding is the bluff Alan [TS]

00:20:56   wastegate basically had served the same [TS]

00:20:58   purpose just do it different ways email [TS]

00:21:00   kc ya please help me God I'm screwed [TS]

00:21:04   but but yeah I mean it's it turbocharged [TS]

00:21:07   cars are just an odd breed which could [TS]

00:21:09   probably dedicate a whole episode 2 if [TS]

00:21:11   we really cared well and we probably [TS]

00:21:13   will [TS]

00:21:14   where did we start out we were talking [TS]

00:21:15   about mutant clone cars yeah I don't [TS]

00:21:18   know why they decided to take the subaru [TS]

00:21:20   drivetrain expect and why not take a [TS]

00:21:23   turbocharged one I mean why we're using [TS]

00:21:25   this naturally aspirated horizontally [TS]

00:21:27   opposed four-cylinder in what is from [TS]

00:21:29   everything I've read this unbelievably [TS]

00:21:31   great and nimble chassis and but from [TS]

00:21:35   everything I've read it's very [TS]

00:21:36   underpowered and that just seems tiny I [TS]

00:21:38   see a lot of on the road I think that [TS]

00:21:40   car is a great idea that's a great idea [TS]

00:21:42   example like if i look at that car that [TS]

00:21:44   think when I saw pictures of them like [TS]

00:21:46   little homely right there when you see [TS]

00:21:47   it in the road still don't like the face [TS]

00:21:49   the butt is so so but the overall shape [TS]

00:21:53   is very attractive like it doesn't look [TS]

00:21:56   like other cars in order reminds me of [TS]

00:21:57   kind of like not your bloated nineties [TS]

00:22:00   300gb like the one before that you can [TS]

00:22:02   kiss my I like that I like that 300 z [TS]

00:22:05   was less blood than current cars but it [TS]

00:22:07   was it like 300 he puffed out like you [TS]

00:22:10   remember the original like they're only [TS]

00:22:11   the Datsun 240 and maybe that's also [TS]

00:22:13   before your times but like some all [TS]

00:22:15   Japanese cheap a rear-wheel-drive sports [TS]

00:22:19   car that was like you know actually [TS]

00:22:20   cheap that like you could buy it if you [TS]

00:22:23   could price shop next to an accord you [TS]

00:22:24   know that type of price that Z we had [TS]

00:22:27   that we bought it from the original [TS]

00:22:28   owner and and he had the sticker and i [TS]

00:22:30   don't remember exactly but i want to say [TS]

00:22:32   in 1991 the Z was like 37,000 or [TS]

00:22:36   something absurd like this and this was [TS]

00:22:37   a non turbo this thing was obese is a [TS]

00:22:39   whale it couldn't get out of its own way [TS]

00:22:41   it handled reasonably well and it was a [TS]

00:22:44   lot of fun but in 91 it was like thirty [TS]

00:22:46   seven thousand dollars i mean that's [TS]

00:22:47   just unbelievable [TS]

00:22:49   that's Wow see ya in today's dollars [TS]

00:22:52   that's like what like 300,000 yeah it's [TS]

00:22:56   whatever it is it's a lot i can tell you [TS]

00:22:58   that but your car in the chat room there [TS]

00:23:01   with the t-top but before that it was [TS]

00:23:04   like a couple it's a horrible rice [TS]

00:23:06   lightweight oh well you know it's hard [TS]

00:23:09   to find google image search shows me [TS]

00:23:11   lots of things with body cladding gonna [TS]

00:23:14   tell you [TS]

00:23:15   well it was a nice friendly car to say [TS]

00:23:18   the least and then so is my 92 civic are [TS]

00:23:21   we allowed to say rice is that like [TS]

00:23:23   racially insensitive or has a neutral [TS]

00:23:25   term now I think it is not neutral and [TS]

00:23:27   it is racially insensitive but the thing [TS]

00:23:28   about it is is like when you know you're [TS]

00:23:31   besmirching the cut the I guess it [TS]

00:23:35   indirectly the people who made the car [TS]

00:23:37   but you kind of talking it's more like [TS]

00:23:38   you're talking about geographically [TS]

00:23:40   speaking where it comes from and then [TS]

00:23:41   you're saying you know but like that i [TS]

00:23:43   think it may have wrapped around because [TS]

00:23:45   it's we're using it as kind of a term of [TS]

00:23:47   my love is determined dearman because we [TS]

00:23:49   think that kind of aftermarket stuff is [TS]

00:23:52   a little bit gaudy but I don't know [TS]

00:23:55   people call the motorcycles they go [TS]

00:23:57   really fast rice rockets and I think [TS]

00:23:58   they mean it [TS]

00:23:59   well I don't do they mean it as a [TS]

00:24:00   compliment I don't know you had a whole [TS]

00:24:03   other motorcycles I don't know anything [TS]

00:24:04   about american cars i don't know [TS]

00:24:06   anything about I mean there's the SUVs [TS]

00:24:09   vans that whole category i don't know [TS]

00:24:12   anything about like once you get your [TS]

00:24:13   minivan you know all about that right [TS]

00:24:15   no i don't think so i have left my next [TS]

00:24:17   family car and it is not an event i saw [TS]

00:24:19   your next family car was going over the [TS]

00:24:21   throgs neck bridge just this weekend [TS]

00:24:22   with my brother and a four-wheel drive [TS]

00:24:25   BMW 5-series drop acid is marcos next [TS]

00:24:27   car could be him on his way home we'll [TS]

00:24:29   see about that [TS]

00:24:31   icic pretty cloudy because I what [TS]

00:24:33   happened no what are you kidding i like [TS]

00:24:36   that's terrible [TS]

00:24:36   now i feel privileged because i know and [TS]

00:24:38   that now I'm not gonna say anything [TS]

00:24:39   see the problem without first of all I [TS]

00:24:42   found that every time like different [TS]

00:24:44   different car brand dealers i found are [TS]

00:24:48   actually fairly consistent between [TS]

00:24:50   different dealerships in like their [TS]

00:24:52   attitudes and how nice they are housed [TS]

00:24:54   there to you like if you found that like [TS]

00:24:56   that like within the brand it's usually [TS]

00:24:58   pretty much the same i haven't done [TS]

00:25:00   enough car dealerships to Noah and [TS]

00:25:02   everyone i've been to for every brand [TS]

00:25:03   has been slimy CII fat so I did all like [TS]

00:25:07   car dealership stuff when I was growing [TS]

00:25:09   up in Columbus where I would always go [TS]

00:25:11   with anybody in my family who was going [TS]

00:25:13   going to the dealer to get a new car [TS]

00:25:14   something which didn't happen much as [TS]

00:25:16   you know my my whole childhood we [TS]

00:25:18   basically had three toyota's that would [TS]

00:25:20   like that cover my entire flight from [TS]

00:25:22   birth until I graduated from college I [TS]

00:25:24   was three toyota's and and only because [TS]

00:25:27   the first one was like 10 years before [TS]

00:25:29   my birth when I started so I would [TS]

00:25:33   always go anyway and of course i would [TS]

00:25:34   always you know like fake that was [TS]

00:25:36   interested even when I was 17 and oh [TS]

00:25:37   yeah look at that mr2 that's interesting [TS]

00:25:39   entry no try to get myself a test drive [TS]

00:25:42   and usually i would succeed and they [TS]

00:25:44   knew i couldn't buy it you know but they [TS]

00:25:46   didn't it was like you know a tuesday [TS]

00:25:47   they were bored so anyway huh [TS]

00:25:50   but I found like Toyota has been [TS]

00:25:54   remarkably bad it so between columbus [TS]

00:25:56   Pittsburgh and two different places in [TS]

00:26:00   New York i have found toyota dealerships [TS]

00:26:03   have been ridiculous just sleazy like [TS]

00:26:06   nasty rude and animal and the [TS]

00:26:09   salespeople badger me like look crazy [TS]

00:26:12   afterwards like the [TS]

00:26:13   if you give them a phone number it's [TS]

00:26:14   actually real they'll call you every [TS]

00:26:16   single day wondering if you've made your [TS]

00:26:18   purchase decision yet and when you want [TS]

00:26:19   to come in its crazy like super high [TS]

00:26:21   pressure all the sleazy stuff with the [TS]

00:26:23   you know going to go to my manager and [TS]

00:26:24   i'll see you know and all that stuff [TS]

00:26:26   which you know you wouldn't think so [TS]

00:26:27   because Twitter otherwise is a pretty [TS]

00:26:29   respectable brand but like it just had [TS]

00:26:31   like a honda i found was very good Honda [TS]

00:26:34   was really super nice in into different [TS]

00:26:36   dealerships honda has been awesome to me [TS]

00:26:38   like really because it might my car [TS]

00:26:40   before I before the dark time in [TS]

00:26:42   Brooklyn that was a Honda and perfectly [TS]

00:26:46   nice people nice on really super-nice [TS]

00:26:48   volkswagen terrible [TS]

00:26:51   howdy terrible i think your sample size [TS]

00:26:53   is way too small because how many folks [TS]

00:26:55   working with ginger 230 yes instituted [TS]

00:26:58   sample size is way too small because I [TS]

00:27:00   think becomes what it comes down to is [TS]

00:27:02   that unlike apple stores card car [TS]

00:27:06   manufacturers either can or just do [TS]

00:27:09   exert very little control over their [TS]

00:27:11   dealers and so the variability is crazy [TS]

00:27:14   because like from that perspective we [TS]

00:27:15   just send you these cars and you have to [TS]

00:27:17   make numbers or whatever and there are [TS]

00:27:19   different strategies to do that one of [TS]

00:27:20   them is the obnoxious hard selling as [TS]

00:27:22   obnoxious as that is it probably [TS]

00:27:23   producing results other one is like [TS]

00:27:25   those that were friendly come to us [TS]

00:27:27   thing and that works for some people and [TS]

00:27:28   it could be regional or just who happens [TS]

00:27:30   to own the thing or who owns the chain [TS]

00:27:32   you know what some dudes last name it's [TS]

00:27:34   like insert last name here [TS]

00:27:36   honda brand you just learned that guy [TS]

00:27:38   makes all his his dealers do the [TS]

00:27:40   high-pressure sales thing but like Honda [TS]

00:27:42   i think has no control over that because [TS]

00:27:45   they just you know they have a dealer [TS]

00:27:47   network and it's like a franchise thing [TS]

00:27:49   and I don't care what you're doing your [TS]

00:27:50   dealer just follow our rules and sell [TS]

00:27:52   our cars but then like the National [TS]

00:27:54   place called you after you buy something [TS]

00:27:56   that big survey and all the dealers like [TS]

00:27:57   please radios all fives it helps a lot [TS]

00:28:00   of us that's my favorite part of the [TS]

00:28:01   dinosaur cut our funding they're gonna [TS]

00:28:03   kill my entire family if you put [TS]

00:28:05   anything other than five yeah every [TS]

00:28:07   single question that's us that's the [TS]

00:28:09   highest pressure part they sell that [TS]

00:28:10   harder than like the extended warranty [TS]

00:28:11   yes that's because that's what they're [TS]

00:28:13   you know but like I think some of the [TS]

00:28:15   luxury bands to exert some control like [TS]

00:28:17   I think like that they're not real [TS]

00:28:19   high-end brands like a Mercedes BMW [TS]

00:28:21   lexus and i think i just read something [TS]

00:28:23   about lexus redoing this have like a [TS]

00:28:25   kind of like a story Bible for a TV show [TS]

00:28:28   but they have for the dealer's never [TS]

00:28:29   like apple store stuff like this is the [TS]

00:28:31   way the dealership works this is how it [TS]

00:28:32   looks this is the roles of the people [TS]

00:28:33   who are involved in it when you come in [TS]

00:28:35   this person greets you they get you know [TS]

00:28:36   like they really try to nail it down to [TS]

00:28:38   provide a consistent experience but of [TS]

00:28:40   course you can afford to do that when [TS]

00:28:41   the margin of your car or as big as the [TS]

00:28:43   margins for bmw's but when you're [TS]

00:28:44   selling honda's you selling you know [TS]

00:28:46   sixteen thousand dollar honda's you [TS]

00:28:48   probably don't have a lot of money left [TS]

00:28:49   over to be enforcing some no strict [TS]

00:28:52   policy that kind of reminds me of [TS]

00:28:53   Saturday know speaking of cases other [TS]

00:28:54   terrible cars a saturn dealer think [TS]

00:28:58   number they did like the no-haggle [TS]

00:28:59   pricing and like we're all family here [TS]

00:29:02   like they definitely had a theme you [TS]

00:29:03   know from the mother ship you know grant [TS]

00:29:05   GM whatever but they said we're going to [TS]

00:29:06   do this weird side project with these [TS]

00:29:08   terrible plastic cars that no one wants [TS]

00:29:10   but the deals we really friendly and you [TS]

00:29:12   won't have to haggle a little bit fixed [TS]

00:29:14   price and we'll see how that works but [TS]

00:29:15   it turns out if you make a lousy car [TS]

00:29:16   that doesn't work it [TS]

00:29:17   well it's funny you bring that bring up [TS]

00:29:19   Saturn in that regard because there's a [TS]

00:29:21   used car dealership and I don't know how [TS]

00:29:23   big they are but carmax is of is very [TS]

00:29:25   much taking up that no haggle mantle [TS]

00:29:27   that that Saturn once had and so carmax [TS]

00:29:31   actually is a spin-off of circuit city [TS]

00:29:33   and circuit city was based in richmond [TS]

00:29:35   virginia which is where i am and so [TS]

00:29:37   there's a carmax every three feet here [TS]

00:29:39   and they are very much the no haggle and [TS]

00:29:42   you know hey if you buy the car sweet if [TS]

00:29:44   you don't we really don't care [TS]

00:29:46   sort of place and it its it's an odd [TS]

00:29:49   experience my mother-in-law actually [TS]

00:29:50   just bought a car from them and I went [TS]

00:29:51   along with her to help her out when she [TS]

00:29:54   did her initial visit and it's very [TS]

00:29:56   weird they didn't really give the heart [TS]

00:29:58   cell now with that said when we bought [TS]

00:29:59   errands car my wife's car [TS]

00:30:01   she is a two thousand seven months 26 [TS]

00:30:03   and that literally took us a year to get [TS]

00:30:06   the dealer to come down to a price we're [TS]

00:30:08   willing to pay which was not that [TS]

00:30:10   absurdly low a price and it they did the [TS]

00:30:13   hard sell they did they let me talk to [TS]

00:30:14   the manager at one point towards the end [TS]

00:30:17   they said yes we'll match that price [TS]

00:30:18   will give you that price and we came in [TS]

00:30:20   to sign the paperwork and they said well [TS]

00:30:21   only if you financed through us and it [TS]

00:30:23   was just I was awful it was absolutely [TS]

00:30:26   terrible [TS]

00:30:27   we found in our in so one of the ways [TS]

00:30:30   i've seen so many dealerships around [TS]

00:30:32   here recently is because a couple years [TS]

00:30:34   ago we are looking for a car for my wife [TS]

00:30:37   and we we did eventually get a lexus [TS]

00:30:39   is250 which I'll tell you all about some [TS]

00:30:42   of the time and you say i have this cars [TS]

00:30:45   i mean come on I didn't pick it and it [TS]

00:30:48   to to be fair Alexis it is a reasonable [TS]

00:30:50   car and in many ways it is quite good in [TS]

00:30:53   many ways it's not so anyway we were [TS]

00:30:56   looking at so many different dealers [TS]

00:30:57   because what what she wanted was a car [TS]

00:31:00   that does not exist in america which is [TS]

00:31:03   a nice small hatchback that is that has [TS]

00:31:07   a luxurious interior the audi a3 is [TS]

00:31:10   almost that car but that's pretty much [TS]

00:31:13   the only choice so far and act like [TS]

00:31:15   nothing else really comes comes close to [TS]

00:31:17   that that's available in the u.s. right [TS]

00:31:19   now our god help you if we ever release [TS]

00:31:22   this because every GTI owner under the [TS]

00:31:24   sun is going to email you and show you a [TS]

00:31:26   new one [TS]

00:31:27   yeah that the other will be a 3 is like [TS]

00:31:28   a luxury GTI right and and it feels like [TS]

00:31:31   it which is unfortunate because it costs [TS]

00:31:33   twice as much roughly and it in short [TS]

00:31:37   the problem with the audi a3 one of the [TS]

00:31:39   biggest reasons we did not select it is [TS]

00:31:41   because it only has one powered seat [TS]

00:31:43   I don't even know how to say this [TS]

00:31:47   delicately but do you know how douchey [TS]

00:31:49   you sound don't think about it think [TS]

00:31:52   about what that into so it's this car [TS]

00:31:54   that costs a lot it's like once you add [TS]

00:31:56   reasonable options to an audi a3 I off [TS]

00:32:00   top of my head I forget you know exactly [TS]

00:32:02   but I think it's like a 34 thousand [TS]

00:32:03   dollar car 35 that like it can get up [TS]

00:32:05   there really fast [TS]

00:32:06   well GTI's what are near 30 i think or [TS]

00:32:08   even over 30 are they really well anyway [TS]

00:32:11   I don't know the the a3 can get really [TS]

00:32:13   expensive really fast once you put any [TS]

00:32:15   reasonable options on [TS]

00:32:16   so you're driving around is this very [TS]

00:32:18   expensive car you know for what it is [TS]

00:32:20   for for a small hatch [TS]

00:32:21   yes it has a luxurious interior you know [TS]

00:32:23   sort of but for the most part it is you [TS]

00:32:26   know it is that but it doesn't really [TS]

00:32:28   feel like much more of an expensive car [TS]

00:32:31   than the GTI does and the GTI oh my god [TS]

00:32:36   please email Casey the GI doesn't feel [TS]

00:32:39   that different from golf like it the [TS]

00:32:42   interior quality wise driveways of [TS]

00:32:43   course yeah it's way faster and [TS]

00:32:44   everything but the quality of the [TS]

00:32:46   Interior the seat comfort all that stuff [TS]

00:32:48   not that different between [TS]

00:32:50   the Gulf the GTI and the a3 and that's [TS]

00:32:54   really the problem is like you know [TS]

00:32:56   whenever you get a car like that you [TS]

00:32:59   know that the base golf is what like [TS]

00:33:01   seventeen thousand dollars something [TS]

00:33:03   like that no so you basically feel like [TS]

00:33:06   you're still in a seventeen thousand [TS]

00:33:08   dollar car in a lot of ways even when [TS]

00:33:10   you're in the 30 whatever [TS]

00:33:11   thousand-dollar 83 [TS]

00:33:13   yeah that's the problem with a car's a [TS]

00:33:16   luxury brands made by luxury cars made [TS]

00:33:19   by brands that are really luxury brands [TS]

00:33:21   is that a certain point you go you [TS]

00:33:23   overextend the company parent company's [TS]

00:33:25   parts been right at the audi a3 [TS]

00:33:27   shouldn't have that problem really goes [TS]

00:33:29   out he doesn't make fancy cars but the [TS]

00:33:30   greater the best examples like the [TS]

00:33:31   Corvette was like the Corvette is as it [TS]

00:33:35   has been especially in recent years [TS]

00:33:36   I'm very respectable performance car but [TS]

00:33:39   it's made by a parent company that does [TS]

00:33:41   not have an excess of interior parts and [TS]

00:33:45   design know how to make a luxury things [TS]

00:33:47   you buy a hundred-thousand-dollar [TS]

00:33:48   corvette zr1 and the interior looks like [TS]

00:33:53   $15,000 car with chunky plastic and [TS]

00:33:55   uncomfortable seats and you're like [TS]

00:33:56   what's going on here like well I don't [TS]

00:33:58   know they just they don't have they [TS]

00:34:00   don't know how to make nice interiors [TS]

00:34:01   for their car sorry we didn't like it [TS]

00:34:04   you think they would throw more money at [TS]

00:34:05   either just not a priority or they just [TS]

00:34:07   don't have those things available so of [TS]

00:34:09   course like no matter how much you got [TS]

00:34:10   to have that Volkswagen like [TS]

00:34:12   everything's big exception of the but [TS]

00:34:14   faith beyond or the hell that crazy [TS]

00:34:16   Phaeton Phaeton 250 grand VW didn't [TS]

00:34:20   catch on [TS]

00:34:21   they just don't have parts and then the [TS]

00:34:23   the Volkswagen parts been to make a [TS]

00:34:25   luxurious colleges have sturdy center [TS]

00:34:27   workmanlike German parts when and the [TS]

00:34:29   any other problem with the a3 is that [TS]

00:34:31   because you know it so it is it is [TS]

00:34:33   basically a an audi s5 like a luxury [TS]

00:34:36   version of the GTI but then it's also [TS]

00:34:39   out his lowest and car yet which means [TS]

00:34:42   and how do i want to capitalize the [TS]

00:34:43   hyatt their higher end sail u-va for is [TS]

00:34:45   not that much more above it you know [TS]

00:34:47   segment wise especially like the four [TS]

00:34:49   wagons but not that much you know bigger [TS]

00:34:51   different more expensive it's very close [TS]

00:34:53   so they don't want to capitalize those [TS]

00:34:55   silver so you have like this ugly [TS]

00:34:56   duckling of a car where it had it has to [TS]

00:34:59   justify its a debadge it is a premium [TS]

00:35:01   priced car but he doesn't want to make [TS]

00:35:04   too nice it's also a pretty small card [TS]

00:35:06   is not a lot of you know room there to [TS]

00:35:08   add a bunch of heavy luxurious stuff [TS]

00:35:09   either so you want to save weight safe [TS]

00:35:12   sighs but still have this 30-something [TS]

00:35:14   thousand-dollar little hatchback really [TS]

00:35:16   nice isn't he 3 also is another case [TS]

00:35:18   where there's a small version of a [TS]

00:35:20   well-known us brand that has been [TS]

00:35:22   available for europe for seven [TS]

00:35:23   generations they just never been to the [TS]

00:35:25   US because we don't like small cars and [TS]

00:35:26   all of a sudden they deign to bring it [TS]

00:35:28   to the US I don't know I realized [TS]

00:35:29   realized what we're getting is the [TS]

00:35:31   current generation of the a3 that's been [TS]

00:35:33   available in europe for two decades and [TS]

00:35:35   in Europe becomes a stick shift in cloth [TS]

00:35:37   seats but here it's like oh well those [TS]

00:35:38   Americans they think about is a luxury [TS]

00:35:40   brand so we better go see it up and you [TS]

00:35:42   know so it's not like you're getting the [TS]

00:35:43   you're getting too fancy version of what [TS]

00:35:45   is actually a much more prosaic car in [TS]

00:35:47   Europe they just hasn't been sold here [TS]

00:35:48   because we're big fat Americans writers [TS]

00:35:51   I mean they're very similar problems the [TS]

00:35:53   BMW 1-series very similar wherein in [TS]

00:35:55   Europe they sell a whole lot of one [TS]

00:35:57   series cars that are actually exactly [TS]

00:35:59   what it was looking for you know small [TS]

00:36:01   hatchbacks that are that have nice [TS]

00:36:03   interiors but they also have a huge you [TS]

00:36:06   know medium and lower end market that we [TS]

00:36:08   don't get over here you know that you [TS]

00:36:10   know little things that have like one [TS]

00:36:11   and a half liter engine stuff like that [TS]

00:36:13   but that's what the reason I brought the [TS]

00:36:15   a3 is because i really have to give [TS]

00:36:17   volkswagen credit they had the worst [TS]

00:36:20   dealer I've ever been like we go there [TS]

00:36:22   and we're trying to because we wanted to [TS]

00:36:24   basically compare the GTI and the a3 and [TS]

00:36:28   see if we can test drive both and see [TS]

00:36:29   how different they were and the dealers [TS]

00:36:32   we go in there and they have these these [TS]

00:36:35   like square leather cushioned kind of [TS]

00:36:39   modern takes on chairs and you sit on it [TS]

00:36:44   but it's it has a slight incline so you [TS]

00:36:47   sit on it and you immediately just slide [TS]

00:36:49   forward like you just slide off so they [TS]

00:36:51   have these chairs you could not sit the [TS]

00:36:54   only people that were that figure out of [TS]

00:36:56   sitting these where the two salesmen [TS]

00:36:58   that were sitting in these shares the [TS]

00:37:00   only place where customers can sit and [TS]

00:37:02   wait for anybody to sales were sitting [TS]

00:37:04   there eating lunch these giant like you [TS]

00:37:06   know unwrapped sandwich paper's like [TS]

00:37:08   fuck replace it like this like there's [TS]

00:37:10   nowhere else you guys can go like it was [TS]

00:37:12   so we're so you know we go immediately [TS]

00:37:14   any of we we were looking around for [TS]

00:37:16   somebody to help us nobody could help [TS]

00:37:18   but nobody was available nobody was [TS]

00:37:19   there but nobody was available [TS]

00:37:22   eventually we get help from you know we [TS]

00:37:24   finally find somebody who can help us [TS]

00:37:25   and we start asking okay so you know [TS]

00:37:28   we're looking at Matt maybe you know GTI [TS]

00:37:30   or maybe used to well configured golf [TS]

00:37:32   you know what you know what your [TS]

00:37:34   availability know what one of these [TS]

00:37:36   options are available and have a [TS]

00:37:38   question with the armrest the guy could [TS]

00:37:40   not answer a single question like he did [TS]

00:37:42   he couldn't even tell us like whether [TS]

00:37:44   they would have any or not like it was [TS]

00:37:46   it was ridiculously simple questions oh [TS]

00:37:49   is this thing an option [TS]

00:37:51   oh I don't let me look in the book and [TS]

00:37:52   he would you know where this big book I [TS]

00:37:54   don't know you put your pages all this [TS]

00:37:56   first week on the job Marco number i [TS]

00:37:58   don't think so like it just and and he [TS]

00:38:00   didn't I don't know when was this [TS]

00:38:03   because you might not look like serious [TS]

00:38:04   buyers two years ago I had well-being [TS]

00:38:07   you but you're both short and look young [TS]

00:38:09   we showed up in a 328i mean it couldn't [TS]

00:38:10   have been that bad but they don't know [TS]

00:38:11   that they don't know that they see you [TS]

00:38:13   drive up and they might have actually in [TS]

00:38:16   with it here in New York there's not a [TS]

00:38:17   lot of room for parking lots so [TS]

00:38:19   generally when you hook up to a dealer [TS]

00:38:21   your parking right in front of the [TS]

00:38:23   showroom in one of four spots they have [TS]

00:38:25   available maybe and and then you know [TS]

00:38:28   they have some giant garage or a lot [TS]

00:38:31   somewhere else has their actual [TS]

00:38:31   inventory in it i have some real-time [TS]

00:38:37   follow-up hair from who i was down for [TS]

00:38:40   anything for myself I i was trying I was [TS]

00:38:43   killing me that I can remember what the [TS]

00:38:44   heck between carter the $YEAR ford probe [TS]

00:38:46   is and maybe I was just misremembering [TS]

00:38:47   it just because ford probe is based on a [TS]

00:38:49   lot of mazda parts so to make up for my [TS]

00:38:52   flub in thinking that the former between [TS]

00:38:54   card I've looked up another one is a [TS]

00:38:56   mitsubishi 3000gt in the beauty and the [TS]

00:38:58   dodge stealth remember those twins like [TS]

00:39:00   those were with the probe I remembered [TS]

00:39:02   also not with the probe those are like [TS]

00:39:04   I'm making up for my 4 i'm [TS]

00:39:05   misremembering of the probe the probe [TS]

00:39:07   was a Ford car that was filled with [TS]

00:39:09   mazda parts right but the mitsubishi [TS]

00:39:11   3000gt and the dodge stealth were the [TS]

00:39:13   same car with different you know right [TS]

00:39:16   and they were the competitor to my 300zx [TS]

00:39:17   well maybe not mine decided crummy one [TS]

00:39:20   but in principle the 3000gt was this [TS]

00:39:23   massively wasn't long and i'm american [TS]

00:39:26   we was a fake Ferrari was effect [TS]

00:39:28   companies for our EMR to the mr2 is a [TS]

00:39:30   miniature fake Japanese [TS]

00:39:31   ferrari and mitsubishi 3000gt and judge [TS]

00:39:34   sell for bigger thought the best thing [TS]

00:39:36   about the mitsubishi speaking of styling [TS]

00:39:37   is one of my favorite things ever seen [TS]

00:39:39   car stalling so the mitsubishi 3000gt [TS]

00:39:40   was shamelessly copping off i think it [TS]

00:39:43   was the kind of wished you remember the [TS]

00:39:46   car styling was it was copying off of i [TS]

00:39:48   think it was copying off of the ferrari [TS]

00:39:51   360 what I'm i don't know i'm going to [TS]

00:39:54   moderate but they had scoops in the side [TS]

00:39:56   of their car that are no I reverse first [TS]

00:39:59   they were doing the 348 348 had like the [TS]

00:40:01   fins kinda like testarossa but not [TS]

00:40:03   really like fewer fins on the ferrari [TS]

00:40:05   348 right and so the mitsubishi 3000gt [TS]

00:40:08   had little fins on the side like 340 and [TS]

00:40:10   when the 360 came out and traded the [TS]

00:40:12   fins too much larger scoop things they [TS]

00:40:15   changed the body cladding on the side of [TS]

00:40:17   3000gt from a bunch of pins to two [TS]

00:40:19   scoops and it was just like this tiny [TS]

00:40:21   little mirror of yet we're tracking for [TS]

00:40:23   our styling that closely that it's like [TS]

00:40:26   the cars look nothing like each other [TS]

00:40:27   except that was clearly trying to have [TS]

00:40:28   right but this one little details like a [TS]

00:40:30   sticker on the side of the car [TS]

00:40:31   practically not really but what this [TS]

00:40:33   tiny little detail like oh that they [TS]

00:40:35   changed it's not it's not friends [TS]

00:40:36   anymore [TS]

00:40:36   quick get a new piece of plastic and [TS]

00:40:38   slap it on there so it looks like me it [TS]

00:40:39   was just it was something that couldn't [TS]

00:40:41   have been accidental because the track [TS]

00:40:43   is so closely and yeah but that's that's [TS]

00:40:46   just the Japanese have a little bit of a [TS]

00:40:48   pro aspirational styling problem [TS]

00:40:50   especially a long time ago and I think [TS]

00:40:51   now that I've kind of found their own [TS]

00:40:52   but now did you know that both the [TS]

00:40:55   3000gt vr4 and the twin-turbo 300zx of [TS]

00:40:58   that era so I'm talking early nineties [TS]

00:41:00   both of them had four-wheel steering and [TS]

00:41:02   if memory serves at least on the z at [TS]

00:41:05   low speeds it when I'm a butcher this [TS]

00:41:07   it's so email Marco but at low speeds [TS]

00:41:10   the the rear wheels would turn with the [TS]

00:41:14   front wheel and I'm sorry against the [TS]

00:41:15   front wheel so if you turn the front [TS]

00:41:16   wheels to the left the rear wheels [TS]

00:41:18   return to the right if i'm not mistaken [TS]

00:41:21   so you could shorten the turning radius [TS]

00:41:22   and then at high speed would actually do [TS]

00:41:24   the reverse [TS]

00:41:25   yep at the prelude had that too i think [TS]

00:41:28   everyone could be i'm not sure to be a [TS]

00:41:30   horrible steering was was a thing was [TS]

00:41:32   definitely a thing [TS]

00:41:33   this is the same time the vtec was a [TS]

00:41:35   thing and if you're really young then [TS]

00:41:37   I've just dated all through here for its [TS]

00:41:39   it has now they have now there's like 14 [TS]

00:41:42   more letters aren't like ivy tech 17t to [TS]

00:41:45   rely on that is foremost so I think [TS]

00:41:48   that's still around in higher end cars [TS]

00:41:50   right four-wheel steering honestly don't [TS]

00:41:53   know i think it was an option on the [TS]

00:41:55   $DAY $YEAR 5 series but not i think not [TS]

00:41:57   with X drivers there are some kind of [TS]

00:41:58   weird condition I i think it was not [TS]

00:42:01   compatible with all the drive which is [TS]

00:42:02   bizarrely counterintuitive but hey [TS]

00:42:06   speaking of what do i get to lecture you [TS]

00:42:07   about you not needing all-wheel-drive [TS]

00:42:09   just worried I was going to say when we [TS]

00:42:12   talk about the next car [TS]

00:42:13   yeah that's good i just going to say [TS]

00:42:14   that I don't want to spoil it [TS]

00:43:07   to create an exceptional website and I [TS]

00:43:11   positive pictures and I put a 348 and [TS]

00:43:13   the original mitsubishi 3000gt styling [TS]

00:43:16   actually I think that's a dodge stealth [TS]

00:43:17   but same difference [TS]

00:43:18   see that see the little fins oh yeah and [TS]

00:43:21   little friends and then Casey put in the [TS]

00:43:22   one when they changed it to be the [TS]

00:43:24   bigger scoops and if you go find like a [TS]

00:43:26   360 with the bigger scoops or that [TS]

00:43:28   actually that the 430 had double scoops [TS]

00:43:30   like that they were just they were [TS]

00:43:31   tracking that styling cues on the side [TS]

00:43:33   of their cars because and if they [TS]

00:43:35   totally tried to make them look the same [TS]

00:43:36   body shape wise 3000 GT was actually [TS]

00:43:38   pretty good performance car for its time [TS]

00:43:41   do I always really wanted an mr2 like [TS]

00:43:43   before the spider generation like those [TS]

00:43:45   for the corner nineties generation [TS]

00:43:47   because it looks like a miniature for [TS]

00:43:50   our you're like a miniature person so [TS]

00:43:51   it's a good fit [TS]

00:43:52   look really cool I've never in my life [TS]

00:43:54   even been in one though like I've never [TS]

00:43:56   there i've never gotten to the point [TS]

00:43:58   where I could almost buy one and two [TS]

00:43:59   attacks we take a test drive of one you [TS]

00:44:01   know by the time I mean a 94 when they [TS]

00:44:04   stopped making them i think in the u.s. [TS]

00:44:05   that was the year I was in sixth grade [TS]

00:44:07   so I couldn't really test drive one knew [TS]

00:44:10   and they were just they just sold so [TS]

00:44:12   badly in the u.s. that i was never able [TS]

00:44:15   to really find one widely available to [TS]

00:44:17   test drive anywhere [TS]

00:44:18   no one knew ever had one thing even the [TS]

00:44:20   mr2 spyder when that came out first of [TS]

00:44:22   all I think the mr2 spyder was was kind [TS]

00:44:25   of a weird thing to make and kind of [TS]

00:44:27   weird thing to call mr too because it [TS]

00:44:29   was so unlike the previous one in some [TS]

00:44:31   you know the previous one was a t-top [TS]

00:44:33   amazingly I that's the only reason I [TS]

00:44:36   know what t-tops ours because the mr2 [TS]

00:44:37   was one any others like you notice this [TS]

00:44:40   two-door coupe the mr2 spyder was [TS]

00:44:43   convertible only all soft top and the [TS]

00:44:46   way you know this short small car and [TS]

00:44:49   look I guess it was it was it was [TS]

00:44:52   confusingly similar looking for the [TS]

00:44:54   porsche boxster to it through the casual [TS]

00:44:56   I and I think that kind of heard it [TS]

00:44:58   because everyone thought it was like a [TS]

00:44:59   ripoff Porsche and then but it but at [TS]

00:45:02   the same time I think it was not nearly [TS]

00:45:04   as good or as popular as the mazda miata [TS]

00:45:08   so it just didn't do well in the market [TS]

00:45:11   the emerging spider but i did that was [TS]

00:45:15   my that was the first time where ever [TS]

00:45:16   thought I was really getting away with [TS]

00:45:19   something by convincing a dealer to let [TS]

00:45:20   me test drive a sports car was the mr2 [TS]

00:45:23   spyder want you know I was bringing in [TS]

00:45:25   my mom's 94 camera to get an oil change [TS]

00:45:27   one time and you know i have 20 minutes [TS]

00:45:32   to kill [TS]

00:45:33   well hey let me go to go over to sales [TS]

00:45:35   always an easy trick you know i'm here [TS]

00:45:36   for servers own maybe consider an [TS]

00:45:38   upgrade and like yeah obviously this [TS]

00:45:40   college kid driving a 94 toyota camry [TS]

00:45:44   that has a it has like a hippie dream [TS]

00:45:46   catcher hanging from the window [TS]

00:45:48   obviously not his car well maybe I don't [TS]

00:45:51   but probably not this kids car it's [TS]

00:45:55   probably not in the market to buy a [TS]

00:45:57   brand-new 20 whatever thousand-dollar [TS]

00:45:59   sports car but ok to Tuesday were slow [TS]

00:46:02   let's give them the chance to drive it [TS]

00:46:04   they had me the keys didn't even come [TS]

00:46:06   with me wait seriously yeah they stick [TS]

00:46:09   the sales guy hands me the keys to the [TS]

00:46:12   mr2 spyder parks it out front says all [TS]

00:46:14   right kid [TS]

00:46:15   here we go you know come back sometime [TS]

00:46:17   like it was so I'm like holy crap and it [TS]

00:46:20   was a stick and I i had known how to [TS]

00:46:22   drive stick for like three months before [TS]

00:46:24   this I wasn't very topic for another [TS]

00:46:25   show [TS]

00:46:26   yes I wasn't very good at it yet I I [TS]

00:46:29   wasn't very confident in myself driving [TS]

00:46:31   stick yet [TS]

00:46:32   and here they are handing me the keys to [TS]

00:46:34   this brand who are to spider it was the [TS]

00:46:39   most fun and yet in horribly [TS]

00:46:41   intimidating a nerve-racking test driver [TS]

00:46:43   I've ever taken I didn't take you very [TS]

00:46:44   far I was scared to be away for too long [TS]

00:46:46   so i took it like just down the block [TS]

00:46:48   and back [TS]

00:46:49   I was so freaked out and then we come [TS]

00:46:52   back the hardest thing I've ever done [TS]

00:46:53   driving a car the highest stress thing [TS]

00:46:55   ever i had to back into a parking spot [TS]

00:46:58   well while whoa and it was the parking [TS]

00:47:01   spot right in front of the giant glass [TS]

00:47:03   window of the dealership so he began [TS]

00:47:06   backing it was this car I i barely am [TS]

00:47:09   confident enough to even go or stop with [TS]

00:47:12   it because it's the stick that's [TS]

00:47:14   unfamiliar to me and I'm an amateur [TS]

00:47:15   stick driver ahead and i had to back it [TS]

00:47:18   up in this little parking spot in front [TS]

00:47:21   of the glass window oh my gosh that was [TS]

00:47:23   stressed [TS]

00:47:23   fortunately nothing bad happen i go and [TS]

00:47:26   all freaked out thinking I really got [TS]

00:47:27   away with something I meanwhile you know [TS]

00:47:29   they don't give a crap i didn't know [TS]

00:47:31   that I thought I really convinced them [TS]

00:47:32   oh yeah i'm a serious buyer they [TS]

00:47:34   couldn't give two crabs and they didn't [TS]

00:47:36   care at all just an mr2 right just like [TS]

00:47:39   because it looks like a Ferrari [TS]

00:47:40   yeah and and the fact is once i was [TS]

00:47:42   driving i didn't like it because first [TS]

00:47:44   of all i don't know i don't like sitting [TS]

00:47:46   that low maybe it's some short and I [TS]

00:47:48   feel like I have to get a better view . [TS]

00:47:50   all the time anyway but I don't like [TS]

00:47:52   sitting down that look like in in those [TS]

00:47:54   really small sporty cars but they had [TS]

00:47:57   that weird thing where the I think they [TS]

00:47:59   did more to wear for like two years [TS]

00:48:01   Twitter had the stupid design thing [TS]

00:48:03   where they would put the gauges in the [TS]

00:48:04   middle so you have to look to the right [TS]

00:48:07   to see them remember that toyota echo [TS]

00:48:09   did that do it for you don't have to [TS]

00:48:11   change focal distance as much from the [TS]

00:48:13   road that's the theory that was the [TS]

00:48:14   theory I don't know how [TS]

00:48:15   it was so weird the distracting tattoo [TS]

00:48:18   looks practice they do it so they don't [TS]

00:48:19   have to have a different dashboard for [TS]

00:48:21   left and right hand drive haha that [TS]

00:48:24   makes a lot more only if they're only if [TS]

00:48:25   they're straight up they taught them [TS]

00:48:26   towards the driver knows they were [TS]

00:48:28   tilted and and they were they were [TS]

00:48:29   tilted and they were in these long tubes [TS]

00:48:31   like they were really far away [TS]

00:48:32   maybe it was the focal distance thing is [TS]

00:48:34   they were they were they were so inset [TS]

00:48:36   very deeply into the dash and they had [TS]

00:48:38   they should these big tubes coming out [TS]

00:48:40   of it was weird but now and so I didn't [TS]

00:48:44   you know what the mr2 is really the all [TS]

00:48:47   the mr2 is pretty obscure cars now the [TS]

00:48:50   next block over from me [TS]

00:48:51   there's two mr to spiders on that block [TS]

00:48:54   it i don't know like I've never seen one [TS]

00:48:57   anywhere else there's two one block away [TS]

00:49:00   from my house [TS]

00:49:01   well that was the thing where it's like [TS]

00:49:02   the shape the overall shape of the mr2 [TS]

00:49:05   it looks different than the cars because [TS]

00:49:07   it's mid engine which is also what you [TS]

00:49:08   can't see out the back right all right [TS]

00:49:09   so it was a way to say can we get that [TS]

00:49:12   because people sense that shape that's [TS]

00:49:13   why they sense it supercars are [TS]

00:49:15   different you know they have no idea [TS]

00:49:16   what it was not blood red or anything [TS]

00:49:18   like who is that card is different its [TS]

00:49:19   low and wide and shaped differently [TS]

00:49:21   right so listen if we can do that but [TS]

00:49:23   still make the car costs like as much is [TS]

00:49:25   like a fancy accord or are you know [TS]

00:49:27   something then then we can get that [TS]

00:49:29   market and kind of work but it also kind [TS]

00:49:31   of like overheated and a bad performance [TS]

00:49:32   sound lousy well and I think the problem [TS]

00:49:35   like with toyota i think they've always [TS]

00:49:36   had this problem [TS]

00:49:37   well these least in the last 10 years or [TS]

00:49:39   so is that nobody really looks to toyota [TS]

00:49:41   for sportiness united or lexus for that [TS]

00:49:44   matter well you have this super was a [TS]

00:49:46   respectable sporty car until they just [TS]

00:49:48   made it into a giant wellness center on [TS]

00:49:49   its way but this super was a valid name [TS]

00:49:52   in the you know recently by sports car [TS]

00:49:55   world they just the drivers when was [TS]

00:49:56   that like when was the last time that [TS]

00:49:58   was mid nineties and in fact i was gonna [TS]

00:50:01   bring her to mark's 1i just someone [TS]

00:50:03   today on the road almost drove off the [TS]

00:50:04   road [TS]

00:50:05   toggling it the big whale one you saw [TS]

00:50:07   super yeah yeah I remember those there [TS]

00:50:11   right [TS]

00:50:11   certainly did it some more real-time [TS]

00:50:12   fall upon my thing here with the the [TS]

00:50:15   Ferrari Ferrari at the Ferrari 355 had [TS]

00:50:18   the double side strikes and that is the [TS]

00:50:20   one that the the GT copies so it was the [TS]

00:50:23   original 3,000 species UN treaty was [TS]

00:50:25   copying 348 then when for our way to 355 [TS]

00:50:27   and change from side street [TS]

00:50:29   it's too big openings so did mitsubishi [TS]

00:50:32   so I have all four pictures on my screen [TS]

00:50:33   now confirming that I'm not crazy [TS]

00:50:35   so what actually I have to ask you [TS]

00:50:38   you've made a number of references 22 [TS]

00:50:41   big fat bloated cars or to some car that [TS]

00:50:44   used to be good becoming big fat and [TS]

00:50:46   bloated so first of all I think it's [TS]

00:50:48   obvious that your you know your ear and [TS]

00:50:50   I fat people haha but i think it is [TS]

00:50:53   worth asking because you mentioned also [TS]

00:50:55   that you were probably going to be [TS]

00:50:58   replacing your ancient honda civic with [TS]

00:51:00   a newer honda accord now the honda [TS]

00:51:03   accord the modern honda accord the last [TS]

00:51:04   two generations by all measures have [TS]

00:51:06   been tremendous bloated cars in fact the [TS]

00:51:10   the accord is classified as a full-size [TS]

00:51:11   sedan now like open fire with the avalon [TS]

00:51:14   that's not usually what i mean when i [TS]

00:51:16   say bloated i'm not talking about the [TS]

00:51:18   EPA classification of the car [TS]

00:51:20   well Sam a meet the new Accords a [TS]

00:51:22   massive car well so here that what I [TS]

00:51:25   mean when I mean when I say blow two [TS]

00:51:26   things one sometimes in terms of styling [TS]

00:51:28   but the cars look like someone put an [TS]

00:51:29   air tube into the gloom up so that the [TS]

00:51:31   super was not a big car like the last [TS]

00:51:33   Super that was around to our super was [TS]

00:51:35   not like a big car probably wasn't even [TS]

00:51:37   that heavy it was probably very small [TS]

00:51:38   inside and out in terms of wheelbase and [TS]

00:51:40   everything about it but the body style [TS]

00:51:42   look like someone had put a tube in [TS]

00:51:43   there my puff puff puff until just [TS]

00:51:45   ballooned up like it just just look bub [TS]

00:51:48   euless as opposed to add the the exact [TS]

00:51:51   opposite of loaded would be the amount [TS]

00:51:54   last mazda rx-7 which look like someone [TS]

00:51:57   took a a deflated balloon and stretched [TS]

00:52:00   over a piece of muscle that's what that [TS]

00:52:02   car look like that's not everyone right [TS]

00:52:04   yeah not be rx8 which is kind of ugly [TS]

00:52:06   that the last rx7 goggle for a picture [TS]

00:52:09   of it that is the opposite of blow just [TS]

00:52:11   looks like tight and everything so [TS]

00:52:12   that's styling wise and non style was [TS]

00:52:15   just in general trend if you look at how [TS]

00:52:16   much cars away the weight of cars just [TS]

00:52:18   going up up that's why the the FRS and [TS]

00:52:21   the BRZ are sort of reversing that trend [TS]

00:52:23   to say we're going to sacrifice and any [TS]

00:52:25   material only other things to build a [TS]

00:52:27   lightweight car right we had its it's [TS]

00:52:29   kind of like its it actually to make [TS]

00:52:33   another fat analogy it is kinda like [TS]

00:52:35   like sighs inflation and clothing you [TS]

00:52:37   know like where like these the car [TS]

00:52:39   classifications have grown and grown and [TS]

00:52:41   grown because [TS]

00:52:42   I mean part of its been for safety [TS]

00:52:44   equipment you know what to do [TS]

00:52:46   regulations they have to add so many [TS]

00:52:47   airbags and roll bars and but it's not [TS]

00:52:49   just that this is always always [TS]

00:52:50   high-tension steel stiffeners they have [TS]

00:52:52   to put in the doors for the side impact [TS]

00:52:54   married microcars way a tremendous [TS]

00:52:56   amount more than they used to for the [TS]

00:52:57   same full-size car you'd be amazed if [TS]

00:52:59   you go back and look at like how much of [TS]

00:53:01   that giant whale of a car in the fifties [TS]

00:53:02   way they weighed nothing because they [TS]

00:53:03   were empty shells and if you hit them [TS]

00:53:05   into another one that crumbled into like [TS]

00:53:06   a like a soda can and you died right and [TS]

00:53:08   now they have all these reinforcing [TS]

00:53:11   materials and so much you know and now [TS]

00:53:12   basically just comes out to cost like [TS]

00:53:14   you can make any car you can shave a [TS]

00:53:16   thousand pounds off any carbon so I'm [TS]

00:53:18   gonna build entire frame out of aluminum [TS]

00:53:19   and all the skaters carbon fiber now [TS]

00:53:21   cost 200 grand right okay you can easily [TS]

00:53:23   do that or you make the whole thing that [TS]

00:53:24   carbon fibre tub and you know now it [TS]

00:53:27   costs a half-a-million dollars right so [TS]

00:53:29   we have the technology to make it light [TS]

00:53:30   is just in terms of expense but yet the [TS]

00:53:32   weight of anybody with a particular [TS]

00:53:34   carline look at the weight of the honda [TS]

00:53:35   civic starting from 1984 it's just a big [TS]

00:53:38   slope up it just goes up up the car then [TS]

00:53:40   you have the cards also get bigger [TS]

00:53:41   because because Americans are fat and [TS]

00:53:43   also tall taller than the Japanese [TS]

00:53:45   people but its safety stuff everything [TS]

00:53:48   the cars behavior and every everything [TS]

00:53:49   the trend is like look it has to stop at [TS]

00:53:51   some point all are going to cars are [TS]

00:53:52   going to weigh 10,000 pounds we have to [TS]

00:53:54   we have to find some way to combat you [TS]

00:53:57   know the increasing weight of cars so [TS]

00:54:00   that's another aspect of blood but the [TS]

00:54:02   main aspect i'm going to talk about [TS]

00:54:03   hundreds when we do a show about how [TS]

00:54:04   this has to do with just the philosophy [TS]

00:54:07   of what's important about the car and I [TS]

00:54:08   would agree with you the last generation [TS]

00:54:09   honda was bloated in many of the regards [TS]

00:54:13   i just talked about but the current [TS]

00:54:14   generation honda oh I haven't test [TS]

00:54:16   driven one yet for everything I've read [TS]

00:54:18   and having seen plenty of them in person [TS]

00:54:19   seems to be reversing that trend a [TS]

00:54:21   little bit to sort of go on a diet and [TS]

00:54:23   slim down both styling wise and you know [TS]

00:54:26   responses was in a real everything else [TS]

00:54:28   see hondahonda is special to me because [TS]

00:54:31   so so to give my brief car history you [TS]

00:54:35   know growing up always had toyota camrys [TS]

00:54:37   and then look one corolla than 12 [TS]

00:54:41   cameras and and then college I i briefly [TS]

00:54:45   borrowed my sister's corolla and then I [TS]

00:54:48   had my own nissan maxima which was [TS]

00:54:50   awesome i love the nissan maxima was it [TS]

00:54:52   was my second favorite card ever owned [TS]

00:54:54   all around and then maximo started [TS]

00:54:59   having tremendous problems i went into a [TS]

00:55:01   guy i got my very first new car in fact [TS]

00:55:04   the first new car [TS]

00:55:05   anybody my family ever they were all [TS]

00:55:07   used for that very first new car I i [TS]

00:55:10   bought a $YEAR honda accord and on paper [TS]

00:55:13   the honda accord is basically the [TS]

00:55:16   perfect car most of the time i get if [TS]

00:55:18   you if you go and try to buy a [TS]

00:55:20   general-purpose sedan that's going to be [TS]

00:55:22   reliable and a good value a honda accord [TS]

00:55:26   is is almost always the right choice or [TS]

00:55:28   at least one of the right choices [TS]

00:55:30   it's you know it's so it's great on [TS]

00:55:33   paper and I had the car for I think for [TS]

00:55:38   years and and what year was it wasn't [TS]

00:55:41   for and so I had a few years then moved [TS]

00:55:46   to Brooklyn and I tried keeping it there [TS]

00:55:50   keeping a car in Brooklyn is there is [TS]

00:55:52   usually a terrible idea it's [TS]

00:55:53   extraordinarily expensive insurance goes [TS]

00:55:56   through the roof parking is a tremendous [TS]

00:55:59   pain or a tremendous cost and a medium [TS]

00:56:01   pain it's ridiculous so eventually after [TS]

00:56:05   spending way too much on insurance and [TS]

00:56:06   parking i sold the car for way too [TS]

00:56:09   little money and then for awhile live in [TS]

00:56:12   Brooklyn then I moved out of Brooklyn [TS]

00:56:14   about my 328 and have loved everything [TS]

00:56:16   since then the honda accord is by far [TS]

00:56:20   the most forgettable car I've ever had [TS]

00:56:22   the camera is way more forgettable that [TS]

00:56:25   according to contest you on that the [TS]

00:56:26   camera is the the standard-bearer for [TS]

00:56:29   completely free edible pile of mush car [TS]

00:56:31   the cord is let much less forgettable [TS]

00:56:33   it's not as memorable as a BMW sure but [TS]

00:56:35   it's much more memorable than a camry I [TS]

00:56:37   mean did you drive you said you had your [TS]

00:56:39   family had a series of cameras and crows [TS]

00:56:40   yes did you drive them the last one yeah [TS]

00:56:43   because I was too young for the fingers [TS]

00:56:45   and you didn't notice the difference [TS]

00:56:46   between that camera in the accord you [TS]

00:56:48   got in terms of like how this car feels [TS]

00:56:49   and how responsive and lively is to [TS]

00:56:51   drive granted it's not a performance car [TS]

00:56:53   not doing anything for you to drink [TS]

00:56:55   drive train rides I i see a big [TS]

00:56:57   difference between because I I'm always [TS]

00:56:58   at the bottom of the bowels of these [TS]

00:57:00   cheap cars i see a big difference [TS]

00:57:02   between equally priced cameras integral [TS]

00:57:04   yeah I would have put them as roughly [TS]

00:57:05   equals like no not even not even [TS]

00:57:07   Lohse yeah i gotta-i gotta side with [TS]

00:57:09   John this one I mean every time i've [TS]

00:57:11   i've never driven a camry but I've [TS]

00:57:14   driven a fair share of the cords and [TS]

00:57:16   I've been in both in in the the camera [TS]

00:57:19   is just a moment is a marshmallow the [TS]

00:57:21   car and the accord at least has feels [TS]

00:57:24   like the wheels connected to the tires [TS]

00:57:26   when you turn the wheel and a suspension [TS]

00:57:29   and the suspension is not a hundred [TS]

00:57:31   percent tuned for but comfort [TS]

00:57:33   yeah it actually has a little bit of you [TS]

00:57:36   know stiffness in the springs and [TS]

00:57:38   there's not a wallow and just sway from [TS]

00:57:40   side-to-side like a giant whale [TS]

00:57:42   yea big difference i made into a [TS]

00:57:44   powertrain wise neither one of them has [TS]

00:57:46   donated is a four-cylinder engine maybe [TS]

00:57:48   even powertrain I was that we give the [TS]

00:57:49   edge to honda because they came up with [TS]

00:57:50   VTEC first and so therefore cylinders [TS]

00:57:52   got a little spunky know and you know [TS]

00:57:54   the total four cylinders for just kind [TS]

00:57:56   of quiet and refined with all their nice [TS]

00:57:58   balance shafts and sound isolation but [TS]

00:58:00   they didn't have a little bit of spunk [TS]

00:58:02   I've never driven the basic scored so i [TS]

00:58:04   can't speak to how that is now to that [TS]

00:58:05   end the last time i looked at the cords [TS]

00:58:08   I they wouldn't they didn't offer the v6 [TS]

00:58:11   accord with a stick [TS]

00:58:13   I think in any capacity is still true [TS]

00:58:16   they usually stay with you about that I [TS]

00:58:17   don't know I'm never shopping for the v6 [TS]

00:58:19   by students filter that's terrible i [TS]

00:58:21   mean if I'm except for the coop they [TS]

00:58:23   usually do it on the coop like if the [TS]

00:58:25   coop is they're expensive one and ended [TS]

00:58:26   the distinctive styling for the coop the [TS]

00:58:28   past couple generations so you know I [TS]

00:58:29   think you could get the coop with the v6 [TS]

00:58:31   and a stick [TS]

00:58:32   that's the other thing about honda's [TS]

00:58:33   they have much nicer sticks and total [TS]

00:58:35   sticks are just like super sticks just a [TS]

00:58:36   little rubbery blob coming up from that [TS]

00:58:39   the bottle of the car [TS]

00:58:41   oh I agree with that might Subarus [TS]

00:58:43   clutch is the worst clutch have ever [TS]

00:58:45   used in fact i had it replaced [TS]

00:58:47   while the drivetrain was getting worked [TS]

00:58:49   on because basically my he was my Center [TS]

00:58:52   my transmission and differential which [TS]

00:58:54   is one unit kind of exploded and so I [TS]

00:58:57   happen to the clutch what it's a story [TS]

00:58:59   but anyway I've had pretty much the [TS]

00:59:01   whole drivetrain on the super replaced [TS]

00:59:02   but uh so that I had them do the clutch [TS]

00:59:05   while they were in there because the [TS]

00:59:06   whole car was in pieces anyway and even [TS]

00:59:09   after they gave me a brand-new clutch [TS]

00:59:11   remember remember i bought the car new [TS]

00:59:12   but the collection has always been [TS]

00:59:14   terrible you know it's a four wheel [TS]

00:59:16   drive car and I cannot launch it with a [TS]

00:59:18   quickness off the line to save my life [TS]

00:59:20   I'm either [TS]

00:59:21   darn near stalling or I'm dropping the [TS]

00:59:23   Transnet what about the shifter doesn't [TS]

00:59:25   i was a drove of super stick once in my [TS]

00:59:27   life so he was a long time ago is my [TS]

00:59:29   friend since shifter felt like it was [TS]

00:59:30   just this is not like those rubber felt [TS]

00:59:32   like a rubber stick like it couldn't you [TS]

00:59:34   just strawberry wrong you couldn't tell [TS]

00:59:36   there was no you know positive [TS]

00:59:38   connections where this thing was [TS]

00:59:39   happening in this terrible it was as [TS]

00:59:42   though you took the the handle of a [TS]

00:59:44   wooden spoon and are pushing it through [TS]

00:59:45   mashed potatoes [TS]

00:59:47   yeah and I'll say the best steak I've [TS]

00:59:49   ever driven is the my dad's BMW 3 so [TS]

00:59:52   thank not to the BMW in the State [TS]

00:59:54   Department well I mean and sticker you [TS]

00:59:56   know stick as a whole category might as [TS]

00:59:58   well start now [TS]

00:59:59   you know I [TS]

00:59:59   you know I [TS]

01:00:00   I feel like you know in the u.s. there [TS]

01:00:02   was there are some stat that i recently [TS]

01:00:04   saw that only seven percent of car sold [TS]

01:00:08   in the US are sold as sticks and I [TS]

01:00:10   actually thought that was high on it was [TS]

01:00:12   hard the pipe higher than expected it's [TS]

01:00:14   probably count as a kind of like trucks [TS]

01:00:15   or something or commercial vehicle [TS]

01:00:17   security inside of me the question I [TS]

01:00:18   don't know yet that it very well might [TS]

01:00:19   be well to the to that end when i was [TS]

01:00:22   looking to get the 335 so what I ended [TS]

01:00:24   up with was a 2011 335i sedan and with [TS]

01:00:27   the m-sport package like i mentioned and [TS]

01:00:30   to find a 335 is not hard to find a 335 [TS]

01:00:34   with the m-sport packages slightly hard [TS]

01:00:37   to find a 335 with the m-sport package [TS]

01:00:40   and a six-speed manual transmission [TS]

01:00:43   it took me months to find one it was in [TS]

01:00:46   that's why when I found the white 1i [TS]

01:00:48   just pounced and I know you're not [TS]

01:00:50   you're all rolling your eyes I'm saying [TS]

01:00:52   this but truly I mean it is impossible [TS]

01:00:55   to find them because generally speaking [TS]

01:00:56   who buys the 335 probably an old person [TS]

01:00:59   who probably has no business driving a [TS]

01:01:03   manual chair I no no internet is an old [TS]

01:01:05   person cause fear that was what I [TS]

01:01:06   thought marketing which is why that's [TS]

01:01:08   right is kind of a girl car color [TS]

01:01:11   Thank You hot i quit i'm quitting not [TS]

01:01:14   saying that like you that you can't get [TS]

01:01:16   that car but like that if you did [TS]

01:01:18   rajendra ratio breakdowns of like you [TS]

01:01:20   know what you know [TS]

01:01:22   pink would be a good example like that [TS]

01:01:24   we sold 10,000 pink cars [TS]

01:01:26   how many of those buyers were men and [TS]

01:01:27   how many bars women you'd expect there [TS]

01:01:29   to be more than 5,000 people women who [TS]

01:01:31   bought the pink are right so just [TS]

01:01:33   certain colors that appealed certainly [TS]

01:01:34   not like you buy that color it means [TS]

01:01:36   your feminine is just those colors . [TS]

01:01:38   appeal defend people and I have a [TS]

01:01:40   feeling that the breakdown a white cars [TS]

01:01:42   would be that more female buyers are [TS]

01:01:44   buying white cars than male is it [TS]

01:01:46   because they think white the men think [TS]

01:01:48   white looks less manly like it's not [TS]

01:01:50   it's mostly dry weather manhood [TS]

01:01:52   adequately I don't know what about like [TS]

01:01:53   there are certain cars that appeal to [TS]

01:01:54   different the agenda breakdowns for [TS]

01:01:56   color or colors i bet are pretty stark [TS]

01:01:59   for when you get to the extremity colors [TS]

01:02:00   out of like you know gray and brown well [TS]

01:02:02   here's here's the problem with your [TS]

01:02:04   white theory is that that there are [TS]

01:02:07   there are a few different or so within [TS]

01:02:09   like you know people ages 16 through [TS]

01:02:13   40 maybe i would expect it to be more [TS]

01:02:15   women maybe but see there's two things [TS]

01:02:18   one is that old people love white cars [TS]

01:02:21   that's true that mr. so and and i don't [TS]

01:02:23   i don't think that would follow a gender [TS]

01:02:24   bias up there in fact it might even be [TS]

01:02:27   more mail in the older people so that [TS]

01:02:31   that's one thing and then the other [TS]

01:02:32   thing is sports car buyers aren't like [TS]

01:02:35   oftentimes sports car people love white [TS]

01:02:38   cars and they were probably predominant [TS]

01:02:42   or they are parties like white car when [TS]

01:02:43   what sports card you usually see in [TS]

01:02:45   white like you say when I see that car [TS]

01:02:48   chances are better than when i say any [TS]

01:02:50   other car that it's going to be white [TS]

01:02:51   because it's a sports car what's making [TS]

01:02:52   you say that sports cars usually home [TS]

01:02:54   and white [TS]

01:02:55   that's a good question well maybe I [TS]

01:02:56   don't know what you're talking I see [TS]

01:02:58   like on online online forums and stuff [TS]

01:03:00   for for car enthusiasts ice by very very [TS]

01:03:03   often see white and maybe it's because I [TS]

01:03:06   i dislike white car so much that I [TS]

01:03:08   noticed about at UAB government [TS]

01:03:10   confirmation by NASCAR color racist i [TS]

01:03:12   don't know i I really don't know I I [TS]

01:03:15   don't I I I just seem to see why a lot [TS]

01:03:19   in all this discussion of all the [TS]

01:03:21   discussion of a car color reminds me of [TS]

01:03:23   my favorite car story when you know I [TS]

01:03:25   bring car magazines forever you know and [TS]

01:03:27   I'm the most into cars of the people my [TS]

01:03:29   family and this most of them when I was [TS]

01:03:31   like I don't know [TS]

01:03:33   17 or 18 and my sister had gone off to [TS]

01:03:35   college and maybe she graduated college [TS]

01:03:37   she was going to buy her first brand-new [TS]

01:03:39   car and we were talking on the phone I [TS]

01:03:40   think or something and and I you know I [TS]

01:03:43   sense that she was you know if she's [TS]

01:03:45   talking about Carson like all this is an [TS]

01:03:46   opportunity for me to talk to my sister [TS]

01:03:48   about the topic that I'm interested i'm [TS]

01:03:49   into cars like an advisor like it's when [TS]

01:03:50   someone like when relatives going to buy [TS]

01:03:52   a computer and you are talking about the [TS]

01:03:54   options are you know iPads or iPhones [TS]

01:03:55   like have you thought about what kind of [TS]

01:03:57   a car you're gonna get you know the [TS]

01:03:59   different options or whatever you use [TS]

01:04:01   anything you're thinking when she goes [TS]

01:04:02   I'm thinking about a lot i'm not sure [TS]

01:04:05   and she's like you know hems and Haws [TS]

01:04:07   for a little bit and just pause her [TS]

01:04:09   really long time and then finally comes [TS]

01:04:10   out with I think it's probably going to [TS]

01:04:13   be a blue one that was their maid like [TS]

01:04:16   the selection criteria was not two doors [TS]

01:04:20   for doors and like that the entire the [TS]

01:04:22   agonizing part of i'm gonna have to buy [TS]

01:04:24   a new car [TS]

01:04:25   what kind of car should be the answer [TS]

01:04:26   was probably a blue and I thought about [TS]

01:04:28   it a lot you know I think blue but that [TS]

01:04:30   matters color matters a lot [TS]

01:04:32   it matters that was the only thing that [TS]

01:04:33   matters like that was the first probably [TS]

01:04:35   a blue one that's that's not really what [TS]

01:04:39   I meant about me advising me what kind [TS]

01:04:40   of car you should get no I color does [TS]

01:04:42   matter a lot though I mean I like I i [TS]

01:04:44   like my cars to be the darker colors I i [TS]

01:04:46   currently have a black car and actually [TS]

01:04:48   have two black cars is another story but [TS]

01:04:51   you know I I love black and you know my [TS]

01:04:54   maxima was dark green but that's that's [TS]

01:04:57   not the whole story by the way when I oh [TS]

01:04:58   my god you think casey had a hard time [TS]

01:05:01   finding a a used 335 with m sport that [TS]

01:05:04   was a stick was so my that the maximum [TS]

01:05:09   that i have read after write after write [TS]

01:05:11   during college was the first car that i [TS]

01:05:13   was allowed to choose so of course in [TS]

01:05:15   typical market fashion and tons of [TS]

01:05:16   research and blah blah blah what I [TS]

01:05:19   wanted and and so my mom had said it was [TS]

01:05:21   gonna be like an early graduation gift [TS]

01:05:23   and when I was still a sophomore because [TS]

01:05:24   i really needed a car for various [TS]

01:05:26   logistical reasons and so okay we're [TS]

01:05:28   gonna buy me a car she had a budget of [TS]

01:05:31   $10,000 find something use that's going [TS]

01:05:35   to be reliable and and decent ok I had a [TS]

01:05:37   whole summer to look and my spring and [TS]

01:05:40   summer actually [TS]

01:05:41   and I looked for months because what I [TS]

01:05:44   wanted was a four-door sedan that was at [TS]

01:05:49   least a v6 and a stick and even in 2002 [TS]

01:05:53   looking at cars mostly from the late [TS]

01:05:55   nineties that was really hard to find [TS]

01:05:58   see what you're already lying because [TS]

01:06:00   what you really wanted in the world was [TS]

01:06:02   a four-door sedan with the v6 and stick [TS]

01:06:04   that had the the little sticker in the [TS]

01:06:06   rear window that said for DSC did your [TS]

01:06:09   maximum have that you know what i'm [TS]

01:06:10   talking about ford esc I don't think I [TS]

01:06:13   know what that is [TS]

01:06:14   oh god I remember what not to be fair i [TS]

01:06:17   love the maximum i truly do I actually [TS]

01:06:19   totally agree with your choice but on [TS]

01:06:21   one of the generations of maximas on the [TS]

01:06:24   believers on the rear window they had [TS]

01:06:25   for DSC written there and under it very [TS]

01:06:28   small letters for door sports car [TS]

01:06:31   oh my god i can't you notice the [TS]

01:06:33   advertising campaign needs some animals [TS]

01:06:35   the four-door sports car that's [TS]

01:06:36   fantastic which I can't believe they got [TS]

01:06:38   away with [TS]

01:06:38   that like I remember seeing that [TS]

01:06:39   campaign and never occurred to me was [TS]

01:06:41   like wait a second did BMW 2002 never [TS]

01:06:43   happened like whatever purpose that is [TS]

01:06:45   this [TS]

01:06:46   we just a racing history and it's the [TS]

01:06:47   four door sport maximum was you know [TS]

01:06:49   bring a guy was like bring the sports [TS]

01:06:51   sedan to the masses in the same way that [TS]

01:06:52   the Datsun 240z let you have a sports [TS]

01:06:54   car and on the budget life and it was I [TS]

01:06:57   mean it was event you know I had to [TS]

01:06:58   eventually find this car I mean and [TS]

01:07:00   because the time is very similar now it [TS]

01:07:02   was very hard to find four door sedans [TS]

01:07:05   that were sticks except the super low as [TS]

01:07:07   10 models which were never be sixes [TS]

01:07:10   so it was it was extremely hard to find [TS]

01:07:11   I eventually found his car had like all [TS]

01:07:13   that how it was the it was a maxima SE [TS]

01:07:15   the sports edition so it had like [TS]

01:07:17   selling the white dial it was really [TS]

01:07:19   cool head like all the leather and the [TS]

01:07:20   boat it had every option that was [TS]

01:07:22   available on an SE so they were there [TS]

01:07:25   were a couple of minor things that you'd [TS]

01:07:27   only get on the super high-end trim that [TS]

01:07:28   was only available automatic so I didn't [TS]

01:07:30   get that but like it had been a sunroof [TS]

01:07:32   the leather bose stereo everything [TS]

01:07:34   it wasn't my dear heart 96 maxima SE and [TS]

01:07:38   I just I loved that car [TS]

01:07:41   it was so great and and I really didn't [TS]

01:07:43   like car that much until I got my BMW [TS]

01:07:45   until the 328i it was such a nice car [TS]

01:07:48   however mine was a massive maintenance [TS]

01:07:50   headache it like it which is unusual for [TS]

01:07:52   these because i still see them at every [TS]

01:07:54   because because I owned 1i have that you [TS]

01:07:56   know I it catches my eye when I see one [TS]

01:07:58   IC 1994-97 that range of nissan maxima I [TS]

01:08:04   see those all the time they sold a lot [TS]

01:08:06   of them but that was the maximum is [TS]

01:08:07   awkward years that was not a good [TS]

01:08:09   styling generation of the maximum you [TS]

01:08:11   had that weird like oval hump but and [TS]

01:08:13   everything it was that the taillights [TS]

01:08:14   were just not good [TS]

01:08:15   the front was ok but like it was the [TS]

01:08:17   generation before that was distinctive [TS]

01:08:19   and the current generation maximum I [TS]

01:08:21   really actually like that styling it's [TS]

01:08:23   at least its distinguishing I see a new [TS]

01:08:24   maxima I say oh that's a maximum does [TS]

01:08:26   not look like that Street another you [TS]

01:08:28   know but see I think they they messed up [TS]

01:08:30   the maximum pretty badly in the in the [TS]

01:08:32   early 2000s they so there was there was [TS]

01:08:34   a generation i had like 94-97 I think [TS]

01:08:36   and then there was like 98 2000-2003 [TS]

01:08:39   something like that and that was pretty [TS]

01:08:41   good too and after that they tried [TS]

01:08:43   pushing it up market to make it more [TS]

01:08:44   profitable and so they they added tons [TS]

01:08:47   of stuff the price went through the roof [TS]

01:08:49   and it became this big heavy blobby [TS]

01:08:52   weird car that was kind of like they [TS]

01:08:55   were trying to compete with the avalon [TS]

01:08:59   and they were trying to compete with the [TS]

01:09:00   entry-level luxury cars that is a I [TS]

01:09:03   don't think about you and well I had [TS]

01:09:05   blocked this one out i just googled oh [TS]

01:09:06   god I forgot about this one either one [TS]

01:09:08   talking about not it was as nitro that [TS]

01:09:11   was not good at all [TS]

01:09:12   the worst part about it the worst part [TS]

01:09:14   about it was here was that the maximum [TS]

01:09:15   is kind of the star like that the the [TS]

01:09:19   ultimate as much as I'm making fun of it [TS]

01:09:22   was the ultimate cheap four-door sports [TS]

01:09:24   car in the sense you could get a large [TS]

01:09:25   engine and a stick shift and then here [TS]

01:09:28   it is not too long later like 5-10 years [TS]

01:09:30   later I think they actually put a [TS]

01:09:32   continuously variable transmission in it [TS]

01:09:34   like a full-on CSU want to miss and love [TS]

01:09:36   CBT is there are everything everything [TS]

01:09:38   and for me it's on his cbt sometimes [TS]

01:09:40   it's not even an option you can even get [TS]

01:09:41   rid of it right and so here is what like [TS]

01:09:44   oh how the mighty have fallen here was [TS]

01:09:46   it was such a great Buy in such a great [TS]

01:09:48   pick for somebody who cares about [TS]

01:09:50   driving now it's this bloated CVT [TS]

01:09:53   sporting piece of jobs i mean like when [TS]

01:09:55   i was when i was looking at my 328 when [TS]

01:09:57   I when I left Brooklyn and when I ran [TS]

01:09:59   screaming from Brooklyn huh [TS]

01:10:02   if the maximum was still the kind of car [TS]

01:10:05   was in the nineties i probably bought [TS]

01:10:06   one of those instead [TS]

01:10:08   well it is now like I just paste in the [TS]

01:10:09   current generation maximum current [TS]

01:10:11   generation access ID from reliability [TS]

01:10:12   problems that are always hot nissan and [TS]

01:10:14   the fact that it's not as good as the [TS]

01:10:15   BMW while trying to be a BMW it's it's [TS]

01:10:18   pretty you know if you want to get a [TS]

01:10:20   distinctively sports car and its lower [TS]

01:10:22   doors [TS]

01:10:23   yes the second looking one is about the [TS]

01:10:25   same card from different and one of them [TS]

01:10:27   how they have everything my rims [TS]

01:10:28   aftermarket rims on and I'm just google [TS]

01:10:30   images it's like second one is really [TS]

01:10:32   pretty and you . it's white [TS]

01:10:34   yeah well they brought like that's the [TS]

01:10:36   same car its that's not a different [TS]

01:10:37   generation like they have that the two [TS]

01:10:39   the two like the I don't know the [TS]

01:10:41   teardrop is like the two little spiky [TS]

01:10:42   things when you see one in person I look [TS]

01:10:44   better than they do in these pics yeah [TS]

01:10:45   and I don't care about your head like I [TS]

01:10:46   feel like Nissan styling in recent years [TS]

01:10:49   like they've gone [TS]

01:10:50   I don't know if it does feel inflated to [TS]

01:10:52   me [TS]

01:10:53   well remember nissan is infinity to + [TS]

01:10:55   infinity had had one of the most [TS]

01:10:57   beautiful cars last like 15 years was [TS]

01:11:00   the first generation of the [TS]

01:11:02   can't remember the part number was there [TS]

01:11:03   was the coop one case you know this was [TS]

01:11:06   the g37 yeah but not the current it [TS]

01:11:09   wanted to have like a clock but the g35 [TS]

01:11:11   let me look that up [TS]

01:11:13   wait holding i hope this isn't the one [TS]

01:11:15   I'm thinking of because the one I'm [TS]

01:11:16   thinking of hideous this should be good [TS]

01:11:20   that's we all sit silently anything for [TS]

01:11:22   us to google when you listen you can [TS]

01:11:24   listen to me type i didn't units you [TS]

01:11:26   have the hard clicking here was reading [TS]

01:11:28   I think it was the yeah it's hard for me [TS]

01:11:32   to like they made this this car looks so [TS]

01:11:33   beautiful and the first came out within [TS]

01:11:35   a resident and ruined everything was [TS]

01:11:36   there was good about the car by suddenly [TS]

01:11:38   changing all the proportions [TS]

01:11:40   I'll try this on for size want to pay [TS]

01:11:41   something I remember the let me see if I [TS]

01:11:44   think it was this 10 yeah that was [TS]

01:11:45   alright is this was just everything [TS]

01:11:48   about it was in perfect balance that [TS]

01:11:50   wasn't flashy you can see the front of [TS]

01:11:51   the head like it was nicely shaped the [TS]

01:11:53   details were all good and they took that [TS]

01:11:55   that exact car and they just suddenly [TS]

01:11:57   changed it like a few inches here raised [TS]

01:11:59   up there and just made the whole thing [TS]

01:12:00   ugly I was like oh no you had it that [TS]

01:12:02   was it that was it was like it was like [TS]

01:12:04   the 911 shape is like iconic and they [TS]

01:12:06   just threw it away and said now we're [TS]

01:12:07   just gonna keep blowing this up and make [TS]

01:12:09   weird lumps on it [TS]

01:12:10   speaking of have you seen I know this [TS]

01:12:11   isn't supposed to be about news have you [TS]

01:12:12   seen the the c7 Corvette I always [TS]

01:12:16   cordial is well unfortunately it [TS]

01:12:18   what happened like but I to as I tweeted [TS]

01:12:21   that the Corvette designers like the [TS]

01:12:23   must stipulate that the Corvette [TS]

01:12:25   powertrain and chassis people know what [TS]

01:12:27   they're doing they make cars to go [TS]

01:12:28   around tracks fast right in there and [TS]

01:12:30   even the interior guys are learning a [TS]

01:12:31   little bit but they lose it so badly in [TS]

01:12:35   the styling like the overall shape of [TS]

01:12:37   that car is fine you know big long hood [TS]

01:12:40   like the kind of thing in the rear but [TS]

01:12:41   the details are what are they doing it's [TS]

01:12:43   like someone just shoot up a bunch of [TS]

01:12:45   plastic car cladding and spit on the car [TS]

01:12:47   all those terrible from the only saw [TS]

01:12:49   from the front I thought it'd look great [TS]

01:12:50   now i'm looking back at all it's just a [TS]

01:12:53   big mess it's like it's like it's like a [TS]

01:12:55   Hot Wheel some kid who designs hotwheels [TS]

01:12:56   went in there and said I want to make [TS]

01:12:58   looking fast car [TS]

01:13:01   haha yeah it looks looks terrible i mean [TS]

01:13:04   like I you know that the hallmark of a [TS]

01:13:07   Corvette is those those four round tail [TS]

01:13:10   lights if you actually love just love [TS]

01:13:12   messing with that like the mustang with [TS]

01:13:14   three vertical writings then they've [TS]

01:13:16   screwed with that and people get cranky [TS]

01:13:17   just not messing with the baby and all [TS]

01:13:19   right you can change almost everything [TS]

01:13:20   else about the design just don't change [TS]

01:13:22   like that the couple of hallmark [TS]

01:13:24   features even portion did Porsches [TS]

01:13:26   hallmark on my 11 was two circular [TS]

01:13:28   headlights and they said you know it's [TS]

01:13:30   the nineties we can smooth those out [TS]

01:13:31   into these fried egg shaped blobs and [TS]

01:13:33   people said no now they gotta be [TS]

01:13:34   circumvented ok will change him back [TS]

01:13:36   just like that that's exactly what it [TS]

01:13:39   sounded like [TS]
