The Incomparable

222: Forcegiving

00:00:00   the incomparable number 222 November [TS]

00:00:11   hey new Star Wars trailer came out and [TS]

00:00:13   this is the first in a series of [TS]

00:00:15   podcasts we will we will talk about it [TS]

00:00:17   for the next nine hours he's these next [TS]

00:00:20   is 8080 some seconds i am jason and i am [TS]

00:00:24   joined by the two biggest star wars fans [TS]

00:00:26   I know Dan Morgan and John Sirica hello [TS]

00:00:30   gentlemen [TS]

00:00:31   haha i'm so excited for this [TS]

00:00:35   Thanksgiving vacation and nothing to do [TS]

00:00:37   with Thanksgiving had entirely to do [TS]

00:00:38   with this trail [TS]

00:00:39   haha if you cannot express this to my [TS]

00:00:42   family adequately that doesn't this [TS]

00:00:44   holiday was about they kept forgetting [TS]

00:00:46   yeah its force giving understand i'm [TS]

00:00:49   ready John [TS]

00:00:50   so uh do you want to talk about first [TS]

00:00:53   impressions should we walk through the [TS]

00:00:55   very carefully selected you know 80 [TS]

00:00:58   seconds so obviously first impressions [TS]

00:01:01   this is opening ceremony statement go [TS]

00:01:02   ahead this is not what I expected from [TS]

00:01:05   this trail I don't know if I what I had [TS]

00:01:07   in my mind the trailer i had in my mind [TS]

00:01:08   this was not it not not going to bed i'm [TS]

00:01:12   just saying that this confounded my [TS]

00:01:13   expectations and what I trying to think [TS]

00:01:15   of what is it that I expected to be [TS]

00:01:17   different the trailer my mind has a lot [TS]

00:01:20   more black in it as in a scene i guess [TS]

00:01:24   yeah guess space scenes and the second [TS]

00:01:26   thing the trailer my mind had this does [TS]

00:01:27   not have is old familiar faces this is [TS]

00:01:30   all new faces and this is I think no [TS]

00:01:32   space seems right as far as we can tell [TS]

00:01:34   now [TS]

00:01:35   well yeah it doesn't seem to be anything [TS]

00:01:36   that takes place in outer space is like [TS]

00:01:39   it like the matically in some ways I [TS]

00:01:41   felt like expecting something almost [TS]

00:01:43   more like epic and grandeur on scale [TS]

00:01:44   blow ya like starting with a whatever [TS]

00:01:46   you call that where the guy pops up on [TS]

00:01:47   the screen [TS]

00:01:48   yeah it starts laying right that is [TS]

00:01:50   different from you know I mean even just [TS]

00:01:52   the episode 1 trailer very sort of [TS]

00:01:54   somber stately important and it's also [TS]

00:01:58   got that element of something that we've [TS]

00:02:00   kind of in some ways never really seen [TS]

00:02:02   in a Star Wars movie before which is [TS]

00:02:03   that like kind of like a like a jump you [TS]

00:02:07   know like making you jump right because [TS]

00:02:08   like it is like everything's calm and [TS]

00:02:10   peaceful but something going on and like [TS]

00:02:12   and like I actually physically jumped a [TS]

00:02:14   little bit because I was kind of likes [TS]

00:02:16   it or not but you have to know I'm [TS]

00:02:17   really allowed to [TS]

00:02:18   oh yeah I had jacked up and also like [TS]

00:02:20   just a sudden appearance and everything [TS]

00:02:22   in the daytime to music and all that [TS]

00:02:24   it's it's very much set up to like [TS]

00:02:26   startled and it's clearly like very [TS]

00:02:27   tense very close shots like I felt the [TS]

00:02:30   that's something that we haven't really [TS]

00:02:32   seen and that my trlr only shot two sure [TS]

00:02:35   make sure that that might be trailer on [TS]

00:02:36   well i don't know i mean well maybe [TS]

00:02:39   their lingering on the sand so so that [TS]

00:02:43   shot with a guy popping up and he's [TS]

00:02:45   looking off camera and we don't see what [TS]

00:02:46   he sees and then the camera starts to [TS]

00:02:48   turn around him is very similar to the [TS]

00:02:52   shot in the pilot of lost where Jack [TS]

00:02:55   walks out onto the beach and you're [TS]

00:02:56   seeing him see the plane crash and then [TS]

00:02:59   very slowly it turns around and reveals [TS]

00:03:01   what he's looking at it which is this [TS]

00:03:02   spectacular destruction of a plane crash [TS]

00:03:05   on the beach and that's what it reminded [TS]

00:03:06   me and same director right that that's [TS]

00:03:09   what it reminded me of is that is there [TS]

00:03:11   and I kept waiting for it to pan around [TS]

00:03:12   and show me what what he sees [TS]

00:03:14   nope well looks like a sandy came here [TS]

00:03:16   to when was the last time we had a shaky [TS]

00:03:18   hand starchy's number is everything is [TS]

00:03:20   free you know you think especially in [TS]

00:03:22   the prequels and George Lucas is doing [TS]

00:03:23   everything like everything is very staid [TS]

00:03:26   and very like static like the camera [TS]

00:03:28   doesn't move a lot and that is like it's [TS]

00:03:30   some of the which is weird because [TS]

00:03:32   that's an encounter point to a lot of [TS]

00:03:33   stuff they did very early on in there in [TS]

00:03:35   the original trilogy we're moving like [TS]

00:03:37   the cameras rather than moving the [TS]

00:03:39   models a lot of the time was like made a [TS]

00:03:41   big difference in the way they shot the [TS]

00:03:42   special effects but the but the [TS]

00:03:44   character scenes were almost always very [TS]

00:03:46   conventional yeah they didn't have [TS]

00:03:48   motion control when they were shooting [TS]

00:03:50   arrows and for that emotion [TS]

00:03:51   troubleshooting Harrison Ford ship which [TS]

00:03:52   made the writing Star Wars the original [TS]

00:03:54   story children dynamic and it like right [TS]

00:03:56   now the interiors of the millennium [TS]

00:03:57   falcon you'd say shot shot people [TS]

00:03:59   sitting people standing talking like [TS]

00:04:01   even the scenes with like Luke you know [TS]

00:04:03   shooting that you know fighting the [TS]

00:04:04   little remote thing with a lightsaber [TS]

00:04:06   everything fairly static shots whereas [TS]

00:04:08   and then as soon as you got into the [TS]

00:04:09   space scenes they go into the trench [TS]

00:04:11   they're flying here that was so much [TS]

00:04:12   more dynamic which made by space seems [TS]

00:04:14   more exciting here in this thing [TS]

00:04:16   everything is like that even when they [TS]

00:04:18   just show that girl on the on that [TS]

00:04:20   speeder thing or whatever it's slow zoom [TS]

00:04:23   in on her face together a depression [TS]

00:04:25   before she takes off like rather than [TS]

00:04:26   just showing her on the things looking [TS]

00:04:28   some buttons are going at the cameras is [TS]

00:04:30   moving it's more like is a modern [TS]

00:04:33   filmmaking but yeah I taking the tools [TS]

00:04:35   that Lucas used only for model [TS]

00:04:37   then using them for everything which is [TS]

00:04:38   you know par for the course I think with [TS]

00:04:40   most movies these days including change [TS]

00:04:42   can absolutely i mean is can we expect [TS]

00:04:44   from the you know the advancements that [TS]

00:04:46   have been made in the last not just you [TS]

00:04:48   know 15 years or so but last 30 years [TS]

00:04:50   since we saw the original trilogy the [TS]

00:04:53   things i noted in that first shot that I [TS]

00:04:55   really so a that our character who i [TS]

00:04:58   believe is John boyega is wearing what [TS]

00:05:03   appears to be stormtrooper armor and [TS]

00:05:05   what I really like when you sort of flip [TS]

00:05:07   around to the back there is it is like [TS]

00:05:08   in a call out to the old stormtrooper [TS]

00:05:10   armor it's got the like 011 style thing [TS]

00:05:13   yeah it's like the black disc in like [TS]

00:05:15   there's the two vertical shots like that [TS]

00:05:17   to me is like okay we're so we're [TS]

00:05:19   screwed warsi like squarely in homage [TS]

00:05:22   territory already [TS]

00:05:23   yeah one that I liked that too because [TS]

00:05:26   are always wanted to see us to a [TS]

00:05:29   stormtrooper with is with his helmet off [TS]

00:05:31   and in the in the prequels we end up [TS]

00:05:34   with a well they're all clones they're [TS]

00:05:35   all the same it's like well that's [TS]

00:05:36   really disappointing so I like here it's [TS]

00:05:38   like hey it's a dude in stormtrooper and [TS]

00:05:40   I mean maybe he's posing as a storm [TS]

00:05:42   trooper Maggie super-pulling Luke and [TS]

00:05:44   Han yeah that's the thing it's a thing [TS]

00:05:46   that's done i think it's also worth [TS]

00:05:48   mentioning that the very first face you [TS]

00:05:49   see is african-american instant [TS]

00:05:51   follow-up we know John boyega is [TS]

00:05:53   actually English not african-american [TS]

00:05:56   with yes I mean there's a lot of been a [TS]

00:05:58   lot of criticism of the casting of this [TS]

00:05:59   movie is just a bunch of white dudes [TS]

00:06:01   again but this is showing that star wars [TS]

00:06:03   is not just for suburban white kids [TS]

00:06:06   yeah I think that's got to be part of [TS]

00:06:08   the statement of this direction first [TS]

00:06:10   phases we see are both an [TS]

00:06:11   african-american man and a woman so I [TS]

00:06:14   think also that's that's important to [TS]

00:06:16   also a soccer ball droid because all of [TS]

00:06:19   the wall because because we need to [TS]

00:06:21   further the case of around robots they [TS]

00:06:23   don't they don't get enough screen time [TS]

00:06:25   is you know this is just a big fu [TS]

00:06:27   interstellar yeah i like the round like [TS]

00:06:31   the soccer ball soccer ball droid but [TS]

00:06:33   notice it more important than that then [TS]

00:06:35   their attempt to to show diversity here [TS]

00:06:37   is like I said these are all new faces [TS]

00:06:39   yes is this that there's not there's not [TS]

00:06:42   a Luke Skywalker is not a hot solo there [TS]

00:06:44   is not a princess leia they are not in [TS]

00:06:46   this trail I mean obviously they'll be [TS]

00:06:48   showing up later [TS]

00:06:48   probably but that's a statement that [TS]

00:06:50   statement saying [TS]

00:06:51   this is a movie and it's a new movie and [TS]

00:06:53   people you know maybe in it but that's [TS]

00:06:55   not what the movie is about this this is [TS]

00:06:57   where did confront my expectations if I [TS]

00:06:59   do [TS]

00:06:59   guess what was in it would be a reveal [TS]

00:07:02   at the very end of like Luke's face yes [TS]

00:07:06   that was expected i was totally [TS]

00:07:08   expecting that to be the last shot is [TS]

00:07:09   like boot throwing back the hood or [TS]

00:07:11   something like that [TS]

00:07:12   a bearded Luke Skywalker nope not at all [TS]

00:07:15   nope but like then there's something [TS]

00:07:17   okay in some senses that works then [TS]

00:07:19   because like now I something else to [TS]

00:07:21   look forward to like there's all this [TS]

00:07:22   cool stuff but I didn't see anything [TS]

00:07:24   with like from ok I didn't see any faces [TS]

00:07:26   that were open but that's exactly what [TS]

00:07:28   they put in it like if they were going [TS]

00:07:29   to tease with the teaser you're right [TS]

00:07:30   you save that big one of the end you [TS]

00:07:32   save like a winking han solo or what you [TS]

00:07:34   say that again and they did not and it's [TS]

00:07:36   not because so much because they're [TS]

00:07:38   going to save it for later like oh my [TS]

00:07:39   god you're gonna see this it's a [TS]

00:07:40   statement about what they think this [TS]

00:07:41   movie is its yeah I grieve it so far as [TS]

00:07:44   far as we can tell they are presenting [TS]

00:07:45   this movie as a movie about the people [TS]

00:07:47   that you see so far because if you can [TS]

00:07:50   do a trailer you don't show you the main [TS]

00:07:51   character so ancillary character scenery [TS]

00:07:54   establishing shots a few ships then you [TS]

00:07:56   have to say for the very end and by the [TS]

00:07:58   way years before we were waiting for [TS]

00:07:59   Indiana Jones or whatever you know [TS]

00:08:00   whoever your main character is and this [TS]

00:08:02   is I think these characters are all main [TS]

00:08:05   characters they're not a hurry [TS]

00:08:07   characters i think that's what it what [TS]

00:08:09   I've from the IMA i will say I've tried [TS]

00:08:12   to avoid spoilers like you know and i [TS]

00:08:14   know john is also working on putting [TS]

00:08:16   spoilers [TS]

00:08:17   yeah but I like I think you're right and [TS]

00:08:19   i think from the little bits that I've [TS]

00:08:21   heard i think it is true that like we're [TS]

00:08:22   going to be focusing on new characters [TS]

00:08:24   that the old cast is going to be more of [TS]

00:08:26   a supporting role which you know i think [TS]

00:08:28   makes sense at this point like it's a [TS]

00:08:30   different it's a different world i mean [TS]

00:08:31   that wewe it's unclear as of yet how far [TS]

00:08:34   in the future this is from the last from [TS]

00:08:36   Return of the Jedi you know if we're [TS]

00:08:38   going strictly on a one-to-one ratio you [TS]

00:08:40   know it's been 30 years right so things [TS]

00:08:42   are going to have changed and those [TS]

00:08:44   characters are all gonna be a lot older [TS]

00:08:45   and it may be a little bit harder for [TS]

00:08:47   them to carry a movie but i think it's [TS]

00:08:49   supporting characters you know there's a [TS]

00:08:50   lot of there's a lot of possibility and [TS]

00:08:52   that for them that we instill sandy [TS]

00:08:54   yeah i was going to say that a queen is [TS]

00:08:55   one of the old characters that we get to [TS]

00:08:57   see in this trailer and and [TS]

00:09:00   I extrapolating plot elements from [TS]

00:09:03   trailers is always dangerous although [TS]

00:09:04   sometimes you discover that that the [TS]

00:09:07   entire plot is revealed that I don't [TS]

00:09:09   think that's the case here but clearly [TS]

00:09:10   part of the story is about something [TS]

00:09:12   happening on tattooing so far as i can [TS]

00:09:14   tell because we've got the disturbed [TS]

00:09:16   stormtrooper guy in the desert [TS]

00:09:19   perhaps you know i don't know i'm not [TS]

00:09:21   saying that there's a plank their [TS]

00:09:23   spaceship crash later point president [TS]

00:09:25   was good that was my thought though I [TS]

00:09:27   which everyone anyway why else would you [TS]

00:09:29   be in the desert and his stormtroopers [TS]

00:09:31   and disheveled with your hat with your [TS]

00:09:33   helmet off myself what is going on [TS]

00:09:35   expression on your face and then we see [TS]

00:09:37   the woman jumping on her little speeder [TS]

00:09:40   block thing which i kinda like that it's [TS]

00:09:45   not you know it's like a lady like a [TS]

00:09:47   landspeeder on its side kinda I think [TS]

00:09:49   that it's not sleek looking different [TS]

00:09:50   motorcycle know it looks very functional [TS]

00:09:52   and very industrial and she's shooting [TS]

00:09:54   off into the tattoo in distance right so [TS]

00:09:56   something is going on Tatooine that's [TS]

00:09:58   the first message of this right and then [TS]

00:09:59   where it's all it's all head fake and [TS]

00:10:01   this is just another Sandy Point this [TS]

00:10:03   could be just the opening scene and they [TS]

00:10:04   go off into space that presently i will [TS]

00:10:06   say sure and then at the end of the the [TS]

00:10:08   millennium fawlcon bit also seems to be [TS]

00:10:09   you know a tattoo because there's a ride [TS]

00:10:12   the super sandy but the x-wings are not [TS]

00:10:14   intending now lot of water haha why [TS]

00:10:17   there's there's water and mountains and [TS]

00:10:19   that's the into dark Death Star Trek [TS]

00:10:21   into darkness shot he's like he's like [TS]

00:10:22   I'm really a fan of flying spaceships [TS]

00:10:24   overwater you know I give it a thumbs up [TS]

00:10:26   share ago i liked it i love ya I mean we [TS]

00:10:29   never saw a lot of about these [TS]

00:10:31   spaceships flying the atmosphere but [TS]

00:10:32   we'll just yeah well we never really saw [TS]

00:10:34   a lot of it like you know in in [TS]

00:10:37   atmosphere flights of like you know [TS]

00:10:39   starfighters we saw that the [TS]

00:10:40   snowspeeders on Hoth but we never really [TS]

00:10:43   see you know a lot of the atmosphere and [TS]

00:10:45   I mean you see the x-wings take off from [TS]

00:10:46   right and Avan then you also see I mean [TS]

00:10:50   obviously that mine Falcon takes off [TS]

00:10:52   from Tatooine obviously liked it there [TS]

00:10:53   so we know it's possible we know what [TS]

00:10:54   happens but here you know at the end we [TS]

00:10:56   have the money Falcon doing its thing [TS]

00:10:58   with contrails right well let's not skip [TS]

00:11:02   around too much because i want to get to [TS]

00:11:03   that all right getting my seen others [TS]

00:11:04   all right ok so disturbed [TS]

00:11:06   this is john boyega write that yeah [TS]

00:11:08   generally get disturbed by with hula [TS]

00:11:10   stormtrooper without his hat [TS]

00:11:12   he's in the desert was never had it's [TS]

00:11:15   too hot for that outfit in the Dewey [TS]

00:11:16   well least it's white [TS]

00:11:18   so it's reflective but yeah not yet it's [TS]

00:11:20   made out of made out of plastic or [TS]

00:11:21   whatever so you know i hope i hope he [TS]

00:11:23   has a water supply or he's gonna be in [TS]

00:11:25   trouble [TS]

00:11:25   I'm worried so I was it a soccer ball [TS]

00:11:27   with a dread head down sonadow there's [TS]

00:11:31   nothing more is it all one thing [TS]

00:11:33   yeah that is the new world cup while [TS]

00:11:35   knows when it's been kidding i think [TS]

00:11:37   it's like magnetically coupled in the [TS]

00:11:39   way or you know magically magic you know [TS]

00:11:42   technology that thing which is which is [TS]

00:11:44   a bouncy type effect like you know this [TS]

00:11:45   is a modern movie we can do this in a [TS]

00:11:48   modern movie in a you know in the [TS]

00:11:50   seventies you couldn't really with tapas [TS]

00:11:52   you have to let you have to stop motion [TS]

00:11:54   and I would be crazy and then we have [TS]

00:11:55   like in the background almost kind of [TS]

00:11:57   like a junkyard with the cadres your [TS]

00:11:58   engines [TS]

00:11:59   yeah they do look I podracer engines I [TS]

00:12:01   agreed i thought they did look like that [TS]

00:12:02   so we did like a brief tip of the hat to [TS]

00:12:05   the 2x cool and yeah well they just that [TS]

00:12:08   sound effect was like when the the girl [TS]

00:12:10   takes off in a speeder there's that lots [TS]

00:12:11   of absolute silence and it's about being [TS]

00:12:13   before let me get this theory we have [TS]

00:12:15   are our favorite sound effect the [TS]

00:12:17   imperial probe droid mix then I believe [TS]

00:12:19   in the very very beginning who you mean [TS]

00:12:22   with the drawer with the Detroiter with [TS]

00:12:23   the now like that [TS]

00:12:25   yeah this is right after the Stinger [TS]

00:12:27   when he stands up [TS]

00:12:28   yeah in the background you get I'm gonna [TS]

00:12:31   what sounds like imperial probe droid [TS]

00:12:32   imperial code whatever [TS]

00:12:34   oh oh yeah well it was that better wind [TS]

00:12:36   it sounds a little windy to meet you [TS]

00:12:37   know but I know an imperial probe droid [TS]

00:12:40   but I know what I'm good [TS]

00:12:42   it's like I was like a whistling wind [TS]

00:12:45   yeah I mean there's a lot of lot of [TS]

00:12:46   dropping who knows if this is obviously [TS]

00:12:48   the mix of the movie at that point it's [TS]

00:12:50   probably different but yeah totally [TS]

00:12:51   they're ok so anything more about the [TS]

00:12:54   soccer ball droid other than its cool [TS]

00:12:56   the question whether this is like going [TS]

00:12:58   to be a recurring character or this is [TS]

00:13:00   just one of those passerby because this [TS]

00:13:01   is not a droid moving by in the [TS]

00:13:03   background [TS]

00:13:03   he's got the whole friggin close shot is [TS]

00:13:05   a correct yes the glamour shot here kind [TS]

00:13:07   of any kind of been to Lourdes there [TS]

00:13:09   yeah or creating a character belongs to [TS]

00:13:12   make side we may get killed [TS]

00:13:14   yeah that he makes our to style noises [TS]

00:13:16   yeah yeah we don't mean indented to [TS]

00:13:19   couple on to John's point we don't even [TS]

00:13:21   not only see any of the human cast we [TS]

00:13:23   don't see any of the no c-3po r2d2 [TS]

00:13:26   Chewbacca like none of the alien robot [TS]

00:13:27   cast either who you know pursuing book [TS]

00:13:29   maybe aged a little better i don't that [TS]

00:13:31   may be okay for the for the little [TS]

00:13:34   bouncy soccer ball droid take a look at [TS]

00:13:36   his antenna good antenna wobble [TS]

00:13:38   uh-huh yeah yeah yeahs aggressive that's [TS]

00:13:41   the physics physics happens [TS]

00:13:42   yeah it's nice I don't like these are [TS]

00:13:44   tui he's got the the red circle around [TS]

00:13:46   the the top and his little camera and [TS]

00:13:50   stuff look it very much is a star wars [TS]

00:13:52   droid this soccer ball droid this [TS]

00:16:24   you so much to the people at lynda.com [TS]

00:16:26   for supporting the uncomfortable we [TS]

00:16:29   talking to you guys think i was living [TS]

00:16:32   listening to the music a little bit i'm [TS]

00:16:33   trying to determine if this is just [TS]

00:16:34   generic trailer placeholder music or if [TS]

00:16:37   this is actually John Williams it sounds [TS]

00:16:39   a little john williams II just listening [TS]

00:16:42   to it is very staccato it's not [TS]

00:16:43   necessarily like that we've heard from [TS]

00:16:45   you know star wars in the past but [TS]

00:16:46   there's an element of it it's clearly [TS]

00:16:49   you look very low key or casserole it's [TS]

00:16:51   less electronic I can't tell but like [TS]

00:16:54   I'm just curious because a lot of times [TS]

00:16:55   trailers use placeholder music or they [TS]

00:16:57   use like and music I think I feel like I [TS]

00:17:01   don't know if they could [TS]

00:17:02   yeah yeah that seems hard to get away [TS]

00:17:04   with in something this iconic like that [TS]

00:17:05   is so tied to its music so i'm wondering [TS]

00:17:07   if this is an actual like early cut up [TS]

00:17:09   some star wars music or not it might [TS]

00:17:11   have scored the trailer but i think yeah [TS]

00:17:13   clearly just you know true teaser [TS]

00:17:16   trailer music like sure don't think of [TS]

00:17:18   any themes in this know there's that [TS]

00:17:19   there is a it has a little more depth [TS]

00:17:21   upon listening to it than a lot of than [TS]

00:17:23   it might otherwise have I feel like but [TS]

00:17:25   yeah I don't know [TS]

00:17:26   alright we have a flickr ii scenes of [TS]

00:17:31   stormtroopers in a line like and they [TS]

00:17:37   seem to be exiting their craft there [TS]

00:17:39   they have different helmets then yes [TS]

00:17:41   these are not your these are not your [TS]

00:17:42   dad stormtroopers yeah a little more [TS]

00:17:44   modernized little sleeker the better air [TS]

00:17:46   vents little continuation of the I [TS]

00:17:48   section [TS]

00:17:49   and like any way they look cool it is [TS]

00:17:51   but it has been fascinating to watch the [TS]

00:17:53   evolution of you know clone troopers [TS]

00:17:56   from the early episodes through the [TS]

00:17:57   clone troopers series through like Star [TS]

00:18:00   Wars rebels if you've watched any of the [TS]

00:18:02   that show it all has like slightly [TS]

00:18:03   different through the original trilogy [TS]

00:18:05   stormtroopers now through these [TS]

00:18:07   strippers [TS]

00:18:07   it is fascinating to watch it adds like [TS]

00:18:09   a continuum in some ways it's like [TS]

00:18:11   watching like Apple referred you know [TS]

00:18:13   read the iphone it's like it's still [TS]

00:18:14   recognizably a stormtrooper but every [TS]

00:18:16   year it's like a little bit different a [TS]

00:18:18   little bit likes their slightly [TS]

00:18:19   different flourishes here and there and [TS]

00:18:22   it's weird because they had to work back [TS]

00:18:23   they had they started with one and then [TS]

00:18:25   work backwards in one direction and [TS]

00:18:27   forwards in the other and weird when [TS]

00:18:28   they went backwards they the look I mean [TS]

00:18:30   obviously moving backwards star [TS]

00:18:31   basically Boba Fett's helmet right so [TS]

00:18:33   that is but that is a very different [TS]

00:18:34   kind of I don't know if you'd call like [TS]

00:18:35   Art Deco or victorian or something like [TS]

00:18:38   that to the you know New Hope which is [TS]

00:18:40   very industrial tube-based and now [TS]

00:18:43   moving forward not going back to art [TS]

00:18:45   deco but trying to be more sleep like [TS]

00:18:48   this is like the electric car version of [TS]

00:18:50   the s2000 is that you know the 2,000 [TS]

00:18:52   version of the stormtrooper helmet [TS]

00:18:54   everything obviously it's weird because [TS]

00:18:56   like they have to fit into a timeline in [TS]

00:18:58   the star wars universe as and there was [TS]

00:18:59   this time ever and so on so forth [TS]

00:19:00   obviously fit into our university what [TS]

00:19:03   they actually what they actually fit [TS]

00:19:04   into is the the fashion trends of the [TS]

00:19:07   times of the movies were made which is [TS]

00:19:08   not the same as the time periods media [TS]

00:19:10   so it's it's it's weird but yeah I think [TS]

00:19:13   I think and I think they're not too [TS]

00:19:14   divergent they are much more like return [TS]

00:19:18   of the jedi stormtrooper and yes then [TS]

00:19:20   and even return the gentleman Empire you [TS]

00:19:22   got the snowtrooper Hamlet was looking [TS]

00:19:23   at us and then you have the forest [TS]

00:19:25   whatever that biker Scouts right which [TS]

00:19:27   also looked more modern compared to [TS]

00:19:29   those things but yeah right and so that [TS]

00:19:30   this is flickering shaky-cam they're [TS]

00:19:33   presented as soldiers they have weapons [TS]

00:19:34   with menacing looking red leds on them [TS]

00:19:36   and if you see if you do you a freeze [TS]

00:19:39   frame on one of those with like little [TS]

00:19:40   scopes that are very reminiscent of both [TS]

00:19:42   the original stormtroopers and Han [TS]

00:19:44   Solo's pistol [TS]

00:19:45   yep got a little scope there know what [TS]

00:19:48   they use the scope so I don't know [TS]

00:19:49   because I never hid anything but you [TS]

00:19:50   know huh well they're too busy staring [TS]

00:19:52   down the scopes and trying to think [TS]

00:19:53   that's the problem and a big opening of [TS]

00:19:55   like a troop transport ship shown from [TS]

00:19:57   leg level a shot that would not be in a [TS]

00:20:00   help any of the Lucas Star Wars [TS]

00:20:02   and as much more of a modern movie [TS]

00:20:04   conceit yam from the legs down you know [TS]

00:20:06   there's something there's something [TS]

00:20:08   going on out there there's like wind or [TS]

00:20:10   rain media and around yet another lash [TS]

00:20:12   they just entering into a space station [TS]

00:20:15   you know who knows looks at it looks [TS]

00:20:18   there's no steering outdoors like [TS]

00:20:20   they're landing on a planet somewhere [TS]

00:20:21   but i hope they don't crash in the [TS]

00:20:22   desert is all nice and icy rain blowing [TS]

00:20:25   sideways yeah it does look like rain I [TS]

00:20:27   re yeah it could be four or smoke or [TS]

00:20:29   something so it's funny John i had the [TS]

00:20:31   same thought about the industrial design [TS]

00:20:33   of the stormtroopers in that it reminded [TS]

00:20:35   me and I felt this way about when Star [TS]

00:20:38   Trek did enterprise and some other [TS]

00:20:40   examples of this is when you go back in [TS]

00:20:41   time and you're trapped in your own [TS]

00:20:42   continuity that the prequels was like [TS]

00:20:45   you know they got everything they do [TS]

00:20:47   have to solve for the original trilogy [TS]

00:20:49   everything they do has to lead to that [TS]

00:20:51   point in it and it's so constricting to [TS]

00:20:55   do that and i look at this I'm like hey [TS]

00:20:57   they get to innovate and like they use [TS]

00:21:00   the original trilogy as a starting point [TS]

00:21:02   to go forward and that feels so much [TS]

00:21:04   more freeing then having to work toward [TS]

00:21:08   something you always that like I always [TS]

00:21:10   sit around thinking about like that [TS]

00:21:12   control seen the the control room in the [TS]

00:21:14   first death star in a new hope right [TS]

00:21:16   where all the flashing lights and like [TS]

00:21:17   very much like a 1960s 1970s era [TS]

00:21:20   computer like a tiny little CRT screen [TS]

00:21:23   and all these little flickery blinking [TS]

00:21:24   lights and you're like how are they ever [TS]

00:21:27   going to explain how you went from like [TS]

00:21:28   episode 1 levels of Technology with like [TS]

00:21:30   all that stuff too like yeah you know [TS]

00:21:32   what really makes a lot of sense [TS]

00:21:34   random blinking lights like that to me [TS]

00:21:37   he really are tracking the same problem [TS]

00:21:38   yes that's what they could they envision [TS]

00:21:41   the future as rather than screens [TS]

00:21:42   everywhere just more buttons with lights [TS]

00:21:44   and so the whole thing is buttons with [TS]

00:21:46   lights and it worked you're moving [TS]

00:21:47   forward right it's right what if you [TS]

00:21:49   haven't but not if you work backwards [TS]

00:21:50   then you're like right on the 7-3 did [TS]

00:21:52   when they did the reboot right you have [TS]

00:21:54   to make ya bridge of that enterprise has [TS]

00:21:56   to sort of split the difference [TS]

00:21:58   like look we need to have a lot of [TS]

00:21:59   buttons with lights on the right but [TS]

00:22:01   then they kind of went this interesting [TS]

00:22:02   because what they did there was they [TS]

00:22:04   went with kind of a a sixties retro vibe [TS]

00:22:09   with lots of polished chrome and at the [TS]

00:22:11   handles and everything right that which [TS]

00:22:13   was a nod to the [TS]

00:22:15   to the period that the original one was [TS]

00:22:17   made and making a statement that this is [TS]

00:22:20   actually the fashion trend of the time [TS]

00:22:22   that the enterprise's for as being [TS]

00:22:23   bitten and semicircles alive this is [TS]

00:22:26   what's in fashion just devices devices [TS]

00:22:28   listen fashions but start checking for [TS]

00:22:30   God's is they start to get the added [TS]

00:22:32   problem of also being built out of our [TS]

00:22:33   own universe right so we know where [TS]

00:22:35   things are right now in our lives and [TS]

00:22:37   yet star trek is supposed to be the [TS]

00:22:39   future and yet like when the IRA my [TS]

00:22:41   always think of some episodes of ds9 [TS]

00:22:43   with a time-travel back to like you know [TS]

00:22:45   the 2,000 something everyone is using [TS]

00:22:48   CRT monitors and it's like what we [TS]

00:22:50   already know it's patently false from [TS]

00:22:51   where we are in this so youryour bounded [TS]

00:22:53   on every side in Star Trek which makes [TS]

00:22:55   it a lot harder at least with the the JJ [TS]

00:22:57   Abrams reboot by doing it in the [TS]

00:22:59   alternate reality and saying oh well 20 [TS]

00:23:00   years ago the course of history changed [TS]

00:23:02   that's that's like part of the we I [TS]

00:23:04   think we came out we can revisit this [TS]

00:23:06   now and show you that you know the the [TS]

00:23:09   captain kirk's enterprise now looks more [TS]

00:23:11   modern because it's totally different [TS]

00:23:13   it's it's not like it was before they [TS]

00:23:14   invented screams it looks like a madman [TS]

00:23:17   modern looks like that time our past [TS]

00:23:19   envisioned with with sort of modern [TS]

00:23:21   acuity i like it turns its [TS]

00:23:22   high-definition everything is in color [TS]

00:23:25   instead of black and white but still [TS]

00:23:27   things look kind of weird and 60s [TS]

00:23:29   fashion and fashion that is out of step [TS]

00:23:31   with today [TS]

00:23:32   so what I'll and the star wars ones have [TS]

00:23:34   here is that not only do we have to go [TS]

00:23:35   forward and not be bound by anything [TS]

00:23:37   because we're just projecting forward [TS]

00:23:39   but a calamitous change of fortunes [TS]

00:23:42   happened yeah and the last movie so [TS]

00:23:44   everything is up for grabs your not even [TS]

00:23:46   bound to any kind of plot wise [TS]

00:23:47   continuity because complete upheaval the [TS]

00:23:49   Empire was sort of running the show and [TS]

00:23:51   now the Empire is this crushed and the [TS]

00:23:53   jennifer is on and now they're kind of [TS]

00:23:55   back but there's one of them and so you [TS]

00:23:56   have complete freedom to go in any [TS]

00:23:58   direction because it's a power vacuum [TS]

00:23:59   yeah well that's the sort of central [TS]

00:24:02   question that comes to me you know out [TS]

00:24:03   of watching this trailer is we thought [TS]

00:24:05   we saw what happened after return the [TS]

00:24:07   Jedi right like we thought okay there's [TS]

00:24:09   a party there were fireworks if they [TS]

00:24:11   wanted everything was great yeah you [TS]

00:24:13   know especially if you want to [TS]

00:24:15   acknowledge the special edition you know [TS]

00:24:17   where everybody's celebrating a whole [TS]

00:24:18   different planet and everyone on corazon [TS]

00:24:20   is this carrier whatever actually [TS]

00:24:22   hearing of the you are happy [TS]

00:24:24   all that matters yeah but but you know [TS]

00:24:26   at the same time now we have a question [TS]

00:24:27   of well there was a huge infrastructure [TS]

00:24:29   in place there were presumably other [TS]

00:24:31   people who were in charge of various [TS]

00:24:33   elements of the Empire there were there [TS]

00:24:35   are remnants there are fragments that [TS]

00:24:36   are left over are they just going to be [TS]

00:24:39   like alright i guess we lost so you can [TS]

00:24:41   go Battlestar here and say this is going [TS]

00:24:42   to be in iraq war analogy where there [TS]

00:24:45   there were factions that we kept being [TS]

00:24:47   kept in check by the by the Empire by [TS]

00:24:49   the dictator right so you have like the [TS]

00:24:51   huts and all the organized crime and [TS]

00:24:52   smugglers and all that stuff who are [TS]

00:24:54   essentially being tamp down by gigantic [TS]

00:24:56   star destroyers and Darth Vader with the [TS]

00:24:58   force in the Emperor and all that other [TS]

00:24:59   stuff and now that they're gone sort of [TS]

00:25:01   sectarian violence 'as him free to break [TS]

00:25:04   out because the you know the rebellion [TS]

00:25:07   is not equipped at this point to govern [TS]

00:25:10   in with the same authority that the an [TS]

00:25:12   entire day and there we know there are [TS]

00:25:14   plenty of factions within the star wars [TS]

00:25:17   universe that are are power hungry and [TS]

00:25:19   we'll see this is their opportunity [TS]

00:25:20   right so is there is there [TS]

00:25:23   re-establishment of the Empire do the [TS]

00:25:25   Empire never really go away and we [TS]

00:25:27   didn't like that victory was not as [TS]

00:25:28   absolute well as we first thought when [TS]

00:25:30   you see the stormtroopers and that my [TS]

00:25:32   very first thought was why are there [TS]

00:25:34   stormtroopers right whatever their store [TS]

00:25:35   marker there was so many stormtroopers [TS]

00:25:38   though they didn't all blow up in the [TS]

00:25:39   Death Star's guys like they've got the [TS]

00:25:41   air around right they got everything out [TS]

00:25:43   guys like they're they're gonna go to [TS]

00:25:45   work in the morning and and you know [TS]

00:25:46   that probably nobody farming oh wait a [TS]

00:25:49   second i guess i don't have one and then [TS]

00:25:51   maybe maybe as a you know we're totally [TS]

00:25:54   spitballing here but maybe when you're [TS]

00:25:55   taking over when you overthrow the [TS]

00:25:57   Emperor if you you give you the [TS]

00:25:58   infrastructure yeah right maybe you say [TS]

00:25:59   okay well we're now going back to being [TS]

00:26:01   the old republic and hey you [TS]

00:26:02   stormtroopers you were always part of [TS]

00:26:04   the you know the even back to the [TS]

00:26:06   Republic you were part of the army [TS]

00:26:08   yeah we're we're we're reinstating the [TS]

00:26:11   Senate and you guys are going to be in [TS]

00:26:13   the army and fight on stormtroopers but [TS]

00:26:15   don't shoot us because you miss right [TS]

00:26:17   well and so then it becomes you open up [TS]

00:26:18   the parable for well you know if you [TS]

00:26:21   just step into the shoes of the dictator [TS]

00:26:23   are you any better than they are and do [TS]

00:26:25   you sort of like this power continue to [TS]

00:26:27   corrupt essentially it's like wow okay [TS]

00:26:28   now we're in charge we're going to force [TS]

00:26:30   it enforce our new order on everything [TS]

00:26:32   wait a second tested the this is [TS]

00:26:35   supposedly a [TS]

00:26:36   message of the the prequels that you [TS]

00:26:38   know the Jedi had become arrogant and [TS]

00:26:40   disengaged and whatever so that's [TS]

00:26:42   problem solved so just heard expertly [TS]

00:26:44   that point right so it's not going to be [TS]

00:26:46   any certain big ball of Jedi who are so [TS]

00:26:49   aloof and disengaged and feel like they [TS]

00:26:51   don't think that i was there i was just [TS]

00:26:52   looking he presumably as more wise than [TS]

00:26:54   that and the Senate was dissolved but [TS]

00:26:57   even when the senate was in session in [TS]

00:26:58   the prequels didn't look like the [TS]

00:26:59   world's best governing body it was you [TS]

00:27:01   know very easily influenced that they [TS]

00:27:03   had guns in there was just that it's not [TS]

00:27:06   great so if you were to propose the new [TS]

00:27:10   system of government who you know you [TS]

00:27:12   had like it almost look like it when you [TS]

00:27:14   had almost like a mix between royalty [TS]

00:27:16   and sort of pseudo democracy is if we [TS]

00:27:19   don't even have a good model for what we [TS]

00:27:20   want to go back to because all the [TS]

00:27:22   things that we that happened in the past [TS]

00:27:23   we don't want to go back to them because [TS]

00:27:24   they weren't they weren't very good work [TS]

00:27:26   right the UH the next shot in the [TS]

00:27:30   trailer is our our friend hopping on her [TS]

00:27:34   block speeder thing looking over her [TS]

00:27:38   shoulder and and then take them off [TS]

00:27:41   darth maul's lightsaber handle is right [TS]

00:27:43   to her left either but through properly [TS]

00:27:45   use or yeah yeah we believe i did not [TS]

00:27:48   catch that it could be properly use [TS]

00:27:50   because they do a lot of that one [TS]

00:27:51   ecstatically on into like up pole [TS]

00:27:54   yeah it's a lifesaver thanks maybe it's [TS]

00:27:57   towered in powered by lightsaber you [TS]

00:27:59   turn it on the inside of the pole and it [TS]

00:28:01   like heats it up and that's weird [TS]

00:28:03   because it's not in the next shot the [TS]

00:28:05   wide shot you look at the next wide shot [TS]

00:28:08   where you actually see her flying off [TS]

00:28:09   its not there she could be an entirely [TS]

00:28:11   different ship at that point [TS]

00:28:12   yeah this is your heart looks similar [TS]

00:28:14   her things are down her little goggles [TS]

00:28:16   are down at that point and yahoo nose [TS]

00:28:19   right and I think everybody's shit but [TS]

00:28:21   it could be continuity error or could be [TS]

00:28:23   two entirely different scenes one of the [TS]

00:28:25   sticks called the show that to the same [TS]

00:28:28   people have the gassy sticks [TS]

00:28:30   yeah there you go yeah that's not that [TS]

00:28:32   is not one but it is covered with [TS]

00:28:33   tattooing style messy tape and onion you [TS]

00:28:36   know enough if i'm not mistaken i think [TS]

00:28:38   this is the actress Daisy Ridley who was [TS]

00:28:41   basically an unknown before coming into [TS]

00:28:43   this [TS]

00:28:44   my guess is that that uh that block [TS]

00:28:46   speeder that she's on its attempt shot [TS]

00:28:47   and then [TS]

00:28:48   haven't added all the all the stuff to [TS]

00:28:50   it yet again while I although it looks [TS]

00:28:53   pretty deep it's got a nice again like [TS]

00:28:55   we're going back to that like it's nice [TS]

00:28:57   it's lived in its beat down as we talked [TS]

00:28:59   its industrial ya know it looks like [TS]

00:29:01   she's driving a furnace basically she's [TS]

00:29:04   also looking behind her [TS]

00:29:05   yanmega escape both both of these actors [TS]

00:29:07   who was working far have serious [TS]

00:29:09   expressions on their face they are [TS]

00:29:10   concerned they are serious they're you [TS]

00:29:13   know they're in crisis they are not [TS]

00:29:16   smiling into the camera and I don't look [TS]

00:29:18   at me I'm a movie if I had to if I had [TS]

00:29:21   to you know sum up all this in one were [TS]

00:29:22   to be tension like especially the [TS]

00:29:24   combination of music and everything [TS]

00:29:25   there is a clear like tension being like [TS]

00:29:28   ratcheted up here as we go along [TS]

00:29:30   something is coming as we haven't talked [TS]

00:29:32   about the voice-over yet but something [TS]

00:29:36   has a way [TS]

00:29:37   copy the force she's going off toward a [TS]

00:29:42   some sort of in camp meant settlement [TS]

00:29:44   something I mean I is that if it this is [TS]

00:29:46   Tatooine that's practically a city that [TS]

00:29:48   she's got the funding prequel noises [TS]

00:29:53   podracer kind of style because with with [TS]

00:29:54   the prequels been burning a lot more of [TS]

00:29:56   kind of deep thrumming rhythmic deep [TS]

00:30:00   thrumming for engine noises and then the [TS]

00:30:02   Padres and everything you get a little [TS]

00:30:03   bit of that for her refrigerator driving [TS]

00:30:05   she's driving is the refrigerating side [TS]

00:30:09   up a lot of dust there inside the [TS]

00:30:11   refrigerator Indiana Jones spoilers and [TS]

00:30:18   hanging out and we have the guy who I [TS]

00:30:20   sort of God looks like [TS]

00:30:21   zev from Empire Strikes Back yeah he's [TS]

00:30:24   in his face is beat up inside his helmet [TS]

00:30:26   his helmet is beat up outside his face [TS]

00:30:28   so it kind of looks like it so it's like [TS]

00:30:31   that it's a new again we've got the new [TS]

00:30:32   styling of like it's clearly a rebel [TS]

00:30:35   alliance and Caroline symbols all over [TS]

00:30:37   him [TS]

00:30:38   yeah just in case you missed it we can [TS]

00:30:40   stamp on his helmet when a little best [TS]

00:30:41   again got the equipment but that's that [TS]

00:30:44   that helmet is not it is again evocative [TS]

00:30:47   the stuff that we saw in the original [TS]

00:30:48   trilogy but it's not the same as even [TS]

00:30:50   orange of the flight suit is like [TS]

00:30:52   different muted it's a little bit more [TS]

00:30:54   done it looks like it's been you know [TS]

00:30:55   again it has been washed in a while but [TS]

00:30:59   he's got the little buttons on his chest [TS]

00:31:00   too [TS]

00:31:01   you're like the the same little like [TS]

00:31:03   like sport thing looks like the stick [TS]

00:31:04   for the x-wing there is pretty similar [TS]

00:31:07   to the originals like the inside the [TS]

00:31:09   cockpit looks very very easy even got [TS]

00:31:12   the targeting computer often love ya now [TS]

00:31:14   like everything is there looks like okay [TS]

00:31:16   this is an x-wing we dusted off the [TS]

00:31:17   mothballs [TS]

00:31:18   yeah he is also very serious-looking he [TS]

00:31:21   is is not is not on a pleasure flight is [TS]

00:31:25   there and get people engaged in some [TS]

00:31:26   kind of military exercise not i cannot [TS]

00:31:28   tell if that is I cannot tell if that's [TS]

00:31:31   Oscar Isaac but that would be my that [TS]

00:31:34   was he looks kinda like oscar isaac was [TS]

00:31:36   hard sell the helmet on [TS]

00:31:39   and I definitely like how scratched his [TS]

00:31:41   helmet is that's the lived in Star Wars [TS]

00:31:43   world that we amber but these are my new [TS]

00:31:45   whatever they call that don't know what [TS]

00:31:47   the name that they said they were acting [TS]

00:31:49   up trying and trying to avoid spoilers [TS]

00:31:51   and by the way if star wars fans [TS]

00:31:52   listening to this and saying why don't [TS]

00:31:54   these people know all the answers these [TS]

00:31:55   questions this has been established but [TS]

00:31:56   it's because we're avoiding spoilers [TS]

00:31:57   yeah sure we these things all could have [TS]

00:32:00   been answered by Jay Bruce himself we [TS]

00:32:02   just don't know because we're going to [TS]

00:32:03   spoil well I mean they looked i mean [TS]

00:32:05   they look pretty I'd there's a little [TS]

00:32:07   bit but not for ones that we saw i don't [TS]

00:32:09   know if you saw that was like that with [TS]

00:32:10   the Arctic Circle engine that split in [TS]

00:32:11   half and with the tooth is the scissor [TS]

00:32:13   wings where the front edge of the wing [TS]

00:32:15   goes down and the back edge of the wing [TS]

00:32:17   goes up [TS]

00:32:17   right right although it's interesting is [TS]

00:32:20   that one in the clothes shot looks like [TS]

00:32:22   almost like it's more that you have a [TS]

00:32:24   the wings curve a little more almost at [TS]

00:32:26   the end I don't know turnouts hard on [TS]

00:32:28   yourself a slight slight refinements [TS]

00:32:29   their blue which is different from the [TS]

00:32:33   ones we saw in the original trilogy [TS]

00:32:36   which mostly had like sort of red trim [TS]

00:32:38   yeah but they look very very soon they [TS]

00:32:40   look more similar than different to the [TS]

00:32:41   and it's an x-wing try again we will be [TS]

00:32:43   looks like it's over i'm not to think [TS]

00:32:45   about the wisdom of taking a circular [TS]

00:32:47   tunnel that and presumably held [TS]

00:32:49   something turbine like it's splitting it [TS]

00:32:50   in half hijacked again will invoke [TS]

00:32:52   interstellar to say that the fan blades [TS]

00:32:54   warp out of existence then back at up [TS]

00:32:56   anyway this rocket engines on the back [TS]

00:32:58   moving along [TS]

00:32:59   yeah he's skimming over water so nice [TS]

00:33:01   like water like you know wakes being [TS]

00:33:03   thrown up behind them some lovely [TS]

00:33:05   mountain scenery a a world that looks [TS]

00:33:08   infinitely more realistic them like half [TS]

00:33:10   the world's we've seen it starts oh yeah [TS]

00:33:13   that the tree background there i suspect [TS]

00:33:15   is based on the hills not basically [TS]

00:33:18   right where I live because the people [TS]

00:33:20   who do these effects live around here [TS]

00:33:21   and that look that mountain looks [TS]

00:33:23   awfully familiar to me but that's sad i [TS]

00:33:25   like it i could look out my window and [TS]

00:33:28   see you next wing I again some some [TS]

00:33:30   great sound effects you know like i say [TS]

00:33:32   like zip along the water they're like [TS]

00:33:34   just good i love the the sound of star [TS]

00:33:36   wars in which we can really do an [TS]

00:33:37   individual spoke Don is just so it's so [TS]

00:33:40   iconic and so evocative like everything [TS]

00:33:42   has a very particular sound and when [TS]

00:33:45   those things line up well and there's a [TS]

00:33:46   lot of stuff in this trailer was like [TS]

00:33:48   yes that thing is it's the same thing [TS]

00:33:50   but we can tell because it sounds the [TS]

00:33:52   same [TS]

00:33:52   and maybe a little what they call them [TS]

00:33:54   the little things that poked out from [TS]

00:33:56   the wings on the x-wing I don't know [TS]

00:33:57   what that you're putting all those [TS]

00:33:58   things are thinner and part of the [TS]

00:34:02   reason they're thinner is because only [TS]

00:34:04   something you can make them on a plastic [TS]

00:34:05   model in 1977 yeah before they become [TS]

00:34:08   too delicate and the model to keep [TS]

00:34:10   accidentally breaking or bending as I [TS]

00:34:12   can order to make them a little bit like [TS]

00:34:13   practicalities of model building [TS]

00:34:15   dictated a lot of what the original [TS]

00:34:16   starships look like we don't have those [TS]

00:34:18   limitations anymore [TS]

00:34:19   ncg basis you know again avoiding [TS]

00:34:22   spoilers but I have seen enough to know [TS]

00:34:24   the JJ but full-size one of these in [TS]

00:34:26   full size is not that then because you [TS]

00:34:27   know full sides still plenty of the [TS]

00:34:29   strong and small-sized know models [TS]

00:34:31   needed this around a computer so you [TS]

00:34:33   have that problem solved and what it [TS]

00:34:34   means is they look they look different [TS]

00:34:36   that obviously looks like an x-wing but [TS]

00:34:38   it's different enough that you can say [TS]

00:34:40   this is a new version and it's a new [TS]

00:34:42   version that does not look like a does [TS]

00:34:46   not look like a reverse the prequels [TS]

00:34:47   looks like even more industrial and [TS]

00:34:49   cobbled together and weird and dirty and [TS]

00:34:53   yeah looks good i get from the thumbs-up [TS]

00:34:55   read all right next what's next [TS]

00:35:01   Chris Pine walking through the woods [TS]

00:35:02   also haha sure it's a special cameo from [TS]

00:35:07   Christmas so we got some snow it's a [TS]

00:35:09   it's a snow stark we're in the dark part [TS]

00:35:11   now right this is the dark dark snowy [TS]

00:35:14   forest and a mysterious hooded figure [TS]

00:35:16   yeah i mean like that snowy woods looks [TS]

00:35:20   very generic to me how many different [TS]

00:35:22   movies everything this generic dark [TS]

00:35:23   snowy woods and a lot and doesn't look [TS]

00:35:26   particularly Star Wars you to me it [TS]

00:35:28   doesn't use our words either i agree [TS]

00:35:29   it's close to like what again we're [TS]

00:35:31   focused on the close shot a lot of the [TS]

00:35:33   star wars shots I feel like we've got [TS]

00:35:35   like you know the three-quarter shop [TS]

00:35:37   we've got the dynamic camera again right [TS]

00:35:38   we're following this guy and so [TS]

00:35:40   everything feels a little more [TS]

00:35:41   claustrophobic and a little tighter and [TS]

00:35:43   we don't see the sky at all the cameras [TS]

00:35:45   pitch kind of down to which I feel like [TS]

00:35:47   is a slight again slightly unusual for [TS]

00:35:49   Star Wars movie where everything is very [TS]

00:35:51   much on a similar like sort of flat [TS]

00:35:52   plane also some real-time real-time [TS]

00:35:56   follow-up from listeners listener erik [TS]

00:35:59   christensen wrote on Twitter to say the [TS]

00:36:01   t-shaped lightsaber was predicted by the [TS]

00:36:04   uncomfortable in the Phantom Menace up [TS]

00:36:06   sewed and they were right to Joe it [TS]

00:36:08   looks silly [TS]

00:36:10   well so here's it talking about the [TS]

00:36:12   lightsaber right so what once they got [TS]

00:36:13   pulled out the lightsaber you see his [TS]

00:36:15   big thick leather belt it looks a little [TS]

00:36:17   bit more star wars ii any sort of [TS]

00:36:19   hunters over but the key point about [TS]

00:36:21   this lightsaber is not so much the silly [TS]

00:36:22   things which seem like a very bad idea [TS]

00:36:25   that very bad idea in terms of not [TS]

00:36:28   cutting off your thighs and other parts [TS]

00:36:29   of your body but the blade itself has [TS]

00:36:33   gone with a more ragged edge of flame [TS]

00:36:36   yeah I don't again another limitation of [TS]

00:36:38   the original effects of you but they're [TS]

00:36:40   spinning stick with beads on it or the [TS]

00:36:42   simplified computer one with CG now we [TS]

00:36:44   could do sort of pseudo lightning around [TS]

00:36:46   yeah it's crying lightning edges it [TS]

00:36:48   looks it looks more sinister instead of [TS]

00:36:50   merely being a red version of what's its [TS]

00:36:53   equivalent of one of those like wavy [TS]

00:36:55   like like knives you know when they see [TS]

00:36:57   like the ceremonial daggers that have [TS]

00:36:58   like a weighty blade yeah it's got like [TS]

00:37:00   kind of that going on that's serrated [TS]

00:37:02   edges yeah and and the things on the [TS]

00:37:04   site and in general I think i'm [TS]

00:37:06   basically not it in favor of surprise [TS]

00:37:10   lightsaber configuration reveals huh [TS]

00:37:12   like it isn't as exciting Darth Maul [TS]

00:37:15   style to have the thing come out the [TS]

00:37:16   other end I feel like that ship has [TS]

00:37:17   sailed and you don't need to do any tone [TS]

00:37:19   the other thing i noticed here that i [TS]

00:37:22   thought was interesting was that the [TS]

00:37:24   blade in addition to sort of that like [TS]

00:37:26   more ragged morph lineage it also looks [TS]

00:37:28   a lot longer to me like if you just sort [TS]

00:37:30   of look at look at your landlords like [TS]

00:37:32   one can play more [TS]

00:37:33   it's basically a anymore which is again [TS]

00:37:35   why I think the crossguard in there is [TS]

00:37:37   because it makes it look very much like [TS]

00:37:38   a tour like a Braveheart style gigantic [TS]

00:37:41   sword i agree i don't see it like on the [TS]

00:37:43   one hand i understand that we hate [TS]

00:37:45   crossguard would be super handy a [TS]

00:37:47   lightsaber prevent some cutting your [TS]

00:37:48   hand off at the same time since the [TS]

00:37:50   crossguard doesn't extend like riding at [TS]

00:37:52   all still says that part where you would [TS]

00:37:53   actually catch another lightsaber blade [TS]

00:37:55   you would just get the crossguard cut [TS]

00:37:56   through which is going to happen exactly [TS]

00:37:58   as darth maul's to have to have my favor [TS]

00:38:00   was inevitably cut-in-half inevitably [TS]

00:38:02   some of those numbers are going away in [TS]

00:38:04   this movie I i had two thoughts when I [TS]

00:38:06   saw this one is that this they may be [TS]

00:38:08   dismissed because they they activate [TS]

00:38:10   later it's that this is like that for [TS]

00:38:13   dramatic back he needs to cut he needs [TS]

00:38:14   to cut down a tree so that's like tree [TS]

00:38:16   chopping mode where it protects you from [TS]

00:38:18   the bits the wood flying off they just [TS]

00:38:20   get vaporized and the other thought was [TS]

00:38:22   that it's the exhaust port that this is [TS]

00:38:24   a badly constructed lightsaber and I [TS]

00:38:26   just laid out the sides i do like the [TS]

00:38:29   idea that it's badly constructed because [TS]

00:38:30   that those fit was sort of the ragged [TS]

00:38:32   edges of it is like this is someone [TS]

00:38:34   who's like you didn't know what they [TS]

00:38:35   were doing and cobble together a [TS]

00:38:36   lightsaber and we're just like is not an [TS]

00:38:39   elegant weapon now [TS]

00:38:41   not for a more civilized age is and the [TS]

00:38:44   weird thing about as it is for for [TS]

00:38:45   something that's supposed to evoke a [TS]

00:38:46   claymore it has a very thin handle [TS]

00:38:48   because the other direction that [TS]

00:38:49   could've gone it's like final fantasy [TS]

00:38:50   where he's he's wielding a butter knife [TS]

00:38:52   the size of his body [TS]

00:38:54   yeah it could have been like a longer [TS]

00:38:55   flatter blade or something but yeah it [TS]

00:38:57   does look it looks looks odd I'm [TS]

00:39:00   reserving judgment something I mean we [TS]

00:39:02   only seen from the back that the [TS]

00:39:04   voice-over which we haven't talked too [TS]

00:39:05   much about has bad Darth Maul vibe to it [TS]

00:39:08   because that we need to have a gravelly [TS]

00:39:10   voice evil guy talking when voiceover [TS]

00:39:13   this looks like an evil guys wearing [TS]

00:39:14   hoodies but as I said Chris Pine he [TS]

00:39:16   looks like he walks like Chris Pine like [TS]

00:39:18   it's just my guess is Adam driver but [TS]

00:39:20   again [TS]

00:39:21   yeah because she looks kind of tall [TS]

00:39:22   lanky yep probably though and yeah and i [TS]

00:39:27   think this is the point where we get the [TS]

00:39:29   second part of the voice over to where [TS]

00:39:31   he's just a delight because we've been [TS]

00:39:33   in the dark like a dark forces rising [TS]

00:39:35   right the the the for his dark side now [TS]

00:39:38   I was really expecting I don't you guys [TS]

00:39:39   be says like the you know the dark side [TS]

00:39:42   and then I was expecting the other party [TS]

00:39:44   like the end of it to be has returned [TS]

00:39:46   and yet when we get the dark side and [TS]

00:39:48   the light on the line I'll see and it [TS]

00:39:50   never left so the whole idea i don't [TS]

00:39:52   worry about the plot of this movie but [TS]

00:39:53   the force awakens is you know whenever I [TS]

00:39:56   tell any non star wars fan about the [TS]

00:39:57   do-it movie who knows anything that was [TS]

00:39:59   like well wasn't then forced already [TS]

00:40:01   wake like wasn't awake and I'm gonna I [TS]

00:40:03   mean I returned it was called return of [TS]

00:40:05   the jedi he there we go Jedi are back [TS]

00:40:07   now right yeah [TS]

00:40:08   music was like kind of a Highlander [TS]

00:40:09   thing we're at the end of Return of the [TS]

00:40:10   Jedi now that he is you know Darth Vader [TS]

00:40:13   sacrifice himself and brought balance to [TS]

00:40:14   the force if you want to go with the [TS]

00:40:15   prequel interpretation like you think [TS]

00:40:17   like nobody has any I know you don't do [TS]

00:40:19   you think that all the force powers [TS]

00:40:21   Norway well silver for the force awakens [TS]

00:40:23   in like here's here's a possible [TS]

00:40:26   headcanon interpretation like so you [TS]

00:40:27   have you have the the [TS]

00:40:29   noxious aloof Jedi or whatever and they [TS]

00:40:31   were a mess and they went away and there [TS]

00:40:32   was none and then Luke came back there [TS]

00:40:34   was a dark side was dominating the [TS]

00:40:35   galaxy and Luke fought back against that [TS]

00:40:37   he's only one now kind of like the force [TS]

00:40:40   is out there as a it is unconstrained is [TS]

00:40:44   free to flow through various people [TS]

00:40:46   without the constraints of sort of [TS]

00:40:47   government or like Boy Scouts of America [TS]

00:40:49   controlling like he's like there's no [TS]

00:40:51   there's the organizational structure so [TS]

00:40:54   if you just happened to be a guy on a [TS]

00:40:55   planet who happens to be four strong [TS]

00:40:57   because of you know who your parents [TS]

00:40:59   were and you cobbled together this [TS]

00:41:01   crazy-ass lightsaber like the force [TS]

00:41:04   awakens as in where does the forest go [TS]

00:41:06   presumably it is present in certain [TS]

00:41:07   people and if there's no organizing [TS]

00:41:09   principle to organize them whether it's [TS]

00:41:10   the master-slave set thing or the the [TS]

00:41:13   light side council thing then there [TS]

00:41:15   could be a whole bunch of people in the [TS]

00:41:16   universe with the force I and what [TS]

00:41:20   happens to them like they just become so [TS]

00:41:22   order taking leaders like like season 7 [TS]

00:41:24   Buffy now we're like all the potential [TS]

00:41:26   Slayers are all out there on their own [TS]

00:41:29   so here's here's my theory about this [TS]

00:41:31   which is which again I have no spoiler [TS]

00:41:34   information either it's purely a theory [TS]

00:41:36   is that the force has a kind of a net [TS]

00:41:40   asset of natural concentrations and so [TS]

00:41:42   with the destroy the death of darth [TS]

00:41:44   vader and all the Jedi being on the [TS]

00:41:46   Empire Emperor being gone that that what [TS]

00:41:49   happens is the force is sort of like in [TS]

00:41:51   its dormant it's like it doesn't have [TS]

00:41:53   its big concentrations it's just sort of [TS]

00:41:55   spread thin and then what's happening [TS]

00:41:57   here is now it's starting to spring back [TS]

00:41:59   it's starting to become you know [TS]

00:42:01   manifest more in people and and it's [TS]

00:42:04   like it's a very mythic it's a very like [TS]

00:42:06   like magic in Game of Thrones or [TS]

00:42:08   something right where it's like well [TS]

00:42:09   there was a lot of it and then it kind [TS]

00:42:11   of faded and now it's coming back which [TS]

00:42:12   is a great way to kick off a new series [TS]

00:42:15   right is to say well that force hasn't [TS]

00:42:17   been around that much but now it's back [TS]

00:42:19   and about my feeling when the light side [TS]

00:42:22   was around if you were for sensitive the [TS]

00:42:24   Jedi would find you right because they [TS]

00:42:26   were you know they would find all the [TS]

00:42:27   kids who are for sensitive like no [TS]

00:42:29   qui-gon does the beginning was like I [TS]

00:42:30   found these force-sensitive kids better [TS]

00:42:31   deals like you you need to go into the [TS]

00:42:33   system you need to go and get the stupid [TS]

00:42:34   helmet on your teachers your stuff and [TS]

00:42:36   like you know you have to get into the [TS]

00:42:37   sister and the other alternative is you [TS]

00:42:40   slipped through the cracks and some [TS]

00:42:41   random Seth fines [TS]

00:42:42   you know there's not a lot of them is [TS]

00:42:44   not a lot of population so basically if [TS]

00:42:45   you were for sensitive the Jedi Order [TS]

00:42:47   and everything was collecting you up and [TS]

00:42:49   now there is no one collecting anyone up [TS]

00:42:51   and the military service during during [TS]

00:42:53   the you know the Empire times if you [TS]

00:42:55   force that darth vader comes and kills [TS]

00:42:57   you presume but things are going to [TS]

00:42:59   competition what if all the force was [TS]

00:43:01   essentially hoarded by the emperor [TS]

00:43:04   emperor and Darth Vader has been on the [TS]

00:43:06   force works [TS]

00:43:06   Wow also here's my friends is and binds [TS]

00:43:10   us but I mean again not to go too much [TS]

00:43:12   into the the you know like the deep with [TS]

00:43:15   the prequels products but yeah my [TS]

00:43:17   fundamental problem with that prophecy [TS]

00:43:18   was the soon as the end of the return of [TS]

00:43:19   the jedi happens the force is no longer [TS]

00:43:21   imbalance can only have light side [TS]

00:43:23   yeah I don't understand why this is like [TS]

00:43:25   it's not like you know a news program we [TS]

00:43:27   need to have one had the pro in the [TS]

00:43:29   coming doing children pro and con need [TS]

00:43:31   to have a balanced like yr ini school's [TS]

00:43:34   failing that's what I want to know what [TS]

00:43:36   you need [TS]

00:43:36   why do we need to have it in balance why [TS]

00:43:38   do we need some amount of child killing [TS]

00:43:40   and mixed in because then it won't be in [TS]

00:43:42   balance is how I i see how the thing is [TS]

00:43:44   that i don't think you need balance I [TS]

00:43:45   think that there's an interesting taking [TS]

00:43:47   their being balanced because court like [TS]

00:43:48   you know order and chaos sort of are [TS]

00:43:50   always at war with one another and so [TS]

00:43:52   I'm wondering if maybe Luke decided like [TS]

00:43:53   instead of you know if we take a very [TS]

00:43:54   different view from liked the post [TS]

00:43:56   cannon that was done in all the books [TS]

00:43:58   everything was like alright we're going [TS]

00:43:59   to train a brand-new Jedi Order and [TS]

00:44:00   everything's gonna be great again [TS]

00:44:01   instead be like looks like all right [TS]

00:44:04   great we you know solved all the [TS]

00:44:05   problems you know what the force really [TS]

00:44:07   kind of leads to a whole bunch of [TS]

00:44:08   problems so i'm just gonna go and go [TS]

00:44:09   like the obi-wan Kenobi route go back to [TS]

00:44:11   Tatooine holed up in a house somewhere [TS]

00:44:12   and just chill out for a while and let [TS]

00:44:14   everything take it you know natural [TS]

00:44:15   course of events and that would be a bed [TS]

00:44:17   but what he's thinking is like I'm the [TS]

00:44:19   only one who I'm the only Jedi left [TS]

00:44:21   right if I don't train anyone else there [TS]

00:44:22   won't be another Jedi but the flaw in [TS]

00:44:24   that plan is like he wasn't a Jedi when [TS]

00:44:25   he was born [TS]

00:44:26   you know when i was working as a farmer [TS]

00:44:28   and help her write like so something [TS]

00:44:30   i'll be people there going to be people [TS]

00:44:31   born who are for sensitive and if no one [TS]

00:44:34   is there to guide them you're gonna have [TS]

00:44:35   trouble right i think i want and again [TS]

00:44:37   like that's nice because there's an [TS]

00:44:38   echoing call back then of like obi-wan [TS]

00:44:40   Kenobi being too you know like having [TS]

00:44:43   the hubris issue of like thinking he can [TS]

00:44:45   train people himself and and loops [TS]

00:44:46   compensating the other direction me like [TS]

00:44:48   I i know i can't train people i'm not [TS]

00:44:49   that good so I'm just gonna not do [TS]

00:44:51   anything which turns out to be a really [TS]

00:44:53   bad decision as well or he could have [TS]

00:44:55   thought that he [TS]

00:44:56   solve the problem is just it right it [TS]

00:44:57   doesn't make any sense he was literally [TS]

00:44:59   one of those people who was just born [TS]

00:45:00   somewhere didn't know anything about [TS]

00:45:02   Jedi or the forest but was for sensitive [TS]

00:45:04   and you know could have fallen in with [TS]

00:45:05   the wrong crowd and just thought you [TS]

00:45:07   said you didn't know what was that [TS]

00:45:08   people like me out there why am i anyway [TS]

00:45:10   we'll see what he actually does but he [TS]

00:45:11   was also the Sun Darth Vader so maybe [TS]

00:45:12   there was like you know you almost get [TS]

00:45:13   like sort of a bloodline think Leon [TS]

00:45:15   they're all the other judges again they [TS]

00:45:16   weren't supposed to have attachments or [TS]

00:45:17   children so you never know [TS]

00:45:18   yeah but you know about those Jedi it's [TS]

00:45:21   got someone on the side and since I [TS]

00:45:23   didn't enjoy the women of the Jedi [TS]

00:45:24   Council hiding their pregnancies through [TS]

00:45:26   the force you know Jedi a Jedi and every [TS]

00:45:28   port my belly is not getting larger [TS]

00:45:30   ok yeah that I yes we talk okay and then [TS]

00:45:35   we get that so after we saw mr. t [TS]

00:45:37   lightsaber mr. t mr. cheezle many people [TS]

00:45:40   who doesn't have a nice weekend i get on [TS]

00:45:42   that million fuckin barrack I think what [TS]

00:45:45   I think we got to agree we get what is [TS]

00:45:46   probably the money shot you have to [TS]

00:45:48   chase you think [TS]

00:45:49   yeah and then which I have to say was [TS]

00:45:52   the moment that got me like you know [TS]

00:45:53   they gave me the goosebumps because like [TS]

00:45:55   I i wrote on the peace the the quick [TS]

00:45:57   piece i wrote on six colors for Jason [TS]

00:45:59   there i feel like this is a scene that [TS]

00:46:00   JJ Abrams like plucked from our [TS]

00:46:02   conscious collective imagination of just [TS]

00:46:04   like we always knew the Millennium [TS]

00:46:06   Falcon was awesome and you know you get [TS]

00:46:09   you get parts of that in in the original [TS]

00:46:11   trilogy you get to see it in the [TS]

00:46:12   asteroid field all that but like that [TS]

00:46:15   even of all the problems with the [TS]

00:46:17   special editions my favorite scene [TS]

00:46:19   remains that scene where you see the [TS]

00:46:20   morning Paul can take off from ma sighs [TS]

00:46:22   Lee in the first movie because the other [TS]

00:46:24   you had a scene of something that was [TS]

00:46:26   brand-new and acted in that way that you [TS]

00:46:29   knew that ship could act we just didn't [TS]

00:46:30   have the technology to display it at the [TS]

00:46:33   time and so you know having the ability [TS]

00:46:36   to do dynamic cameras and to do some CGI [TS]

00:46:38   and to do you know all the stuff that [TS]

00:46:40   they're doing here [TS]

00:46:41   it makes it like it makes it feel real [TS]

00:46:44   and it makes it like something that all [TS]

00:46:46   our imaginations when you're a kid you [TS]

00:46:47   got your little million Falkenstein [TS]

00:46:48   you're flying around like you're like oh [TS]

00:46:50   yeah i can do all these things can fly [TS]

00:46:51   upside down and like skim down near the [TS]

00:46:53   surface of things and I don't know it's [TS]

00:46:55   just like for me it captured perfectly [TS]

00:46:57   this idea of like what i wanted to c 4 [TS]

00:46:59   30 literally we're discussing on the [TS]

00:47:02   original trilogy the shots of people and [TS]

00:47:05   live-action things are fairly static and [TS]

00:47:06   then motion-control camera made the [TS]

00:47:09   ship and space battle shots so much more [TS]

00:47:11   exciting so here if they're going to use [TS]

00:47:13   sort of modern camera movement [TS]

00:47:15   techniques to show the people want that [TS]

00:47:17   then make the the spaceship shots less [TS]

00:47:20   exciting and the answer is no because we [TS]

00:47:22   can do way more than we could with [TS]

00:47:23   motion control cameras before so they [TS]

00:47:24   they're still keeping the same balance [TS]

00:47:26   of like the people shots are [TS]

00:47:28   conventional in a modern sense but the [TS]

00:47:30   spaceship shots we could do anything and [TS]

00:47:31   so you know they're showing you know [TS]

00:47:33   this is this this one-shot they show [TS]

00:47:35   hear something that would have given ilm [TS]

00:47:38   of the seventies like it would have just [TS]

00:47:39   like made them all just grown and have [TS]

00:47:42   nightmares for like months at a time [TS]

00:47:43   received you like we can do anything we [TS]

00:47:47   want lens flare sky stand fully brightly [TS]

00:47:50   lit the cameras flipping around while [TS]

00:47:52   the ship is flipping around something [TS]

00:47:53   you know realistic-looking sand kicking [TS]

00:47:55   up under it we can do everything and so [TS]

00:47:57   they're still keeping that balance [TS]

00:47:58   because if they kept the shots looking [TS]

00:48:00   like shots from empire and that it would [TS]

00:48:03   be it would be a letdown and this this [TS]

00:48:04   is not that well this is a also i like [TS]

00:48:07   that this is the millennium fawlcon [TS]

00:48:08   doing that move you know that move where [TS]

00:48:10   they go up and look around and come back [TS]

00:48:12   down [TS]

00:48:13   yeah and women beautiful new radar dish [TS]

00:48:17   because they want yeah I noticed that [TS]

00:48:18   too in a water-filled why I pop the [TS]

00:48:20   exact same thing it's like skits [TS]

00:48:22   rectangular instead of circular like [TS]

00:48:24   much lower profile so the next time you [TS]

00:48:25   need to go into a Death Star won't get [TS]

00:48:26   knocked up [TS]

00:48:27   yeah we'll see about that and still [TS]

00:48:29   focus on is still the highest thing it's [TS]

00:48:30   gonna highest thing on the show you [TS]

00:48:32   gotta have radar just come on man don't [TS]

00:48:34   drive anymore [TS]

00:48:35   well we're close friends are you got not [TS]

00:48:38   only do we have the falken which looks [TS]

00:48:40   you know basically just beat up it's not [TS]

00:48:42   like console came into a lot of money is [TS]

00:48:44   like I'm gonna fix this thing up real [TS]

00:48:45   nice now looks pretty much don't know [TS]

00:48:47   about tomorrow we're having anybody [TS]

00:48:48   driving come on Han Solo was driving and [TS]

00:48:50   look at the way that thing flies it [TS]

00:48:53   could be happening in the back pocket [TS]

00:48:55   taken Sarah didn't hurt to me that [TS]

00:48:57   there's like you know Han Solo's teenage [TS]

00:48:59   kid is taking this look like it's that [TS]

00:49:00   scene from the first Star Trek reboot [TS]

00:49:02   where you know Curtis is his dad's car [TS]

00:49:04   yeah it's someone so let's kill the fall [TS]

00:49:07   can take it for a joyride [TS]

00:49:08   so when it loops around loops first you [TS]

00:49:11   see it is flying through the air like [TS]

00:49:12   okay [TS]

00:49:13   atmosphere not space loop sloop sloop [TS]

00:49:15   sloop in the big surprises guess where [TS]

00:49:16   it is it's on Tatooine because then you [TS]

00:49:18   get the stand coming to the shot in the [TS]

00:49:19   sand coming up and it's like what are [TS]

00:49:21   you doing [TS]

00:49:21   flying that thing around [TS]

00:49:22   that's the first surprise in the second [TS]

00:49:23   surprise which is less for the surprise [TS]

00:49:25   in the age of Star Wars rebels is that [TS]

00:49:27   their typewriters hyper scattering and [TS]

00:49:29   and if you're watching Star Wars rebels [TS]

00:49:31   this is not new your custom to seeing [TS]

00:49:32   TIE fighters fly around on top of sand [TS]

00:49:35   right but that has new a new idea in the [TS]

00:49:38   Star Wars world that these what we [TS]

00:49:40   consider space spider right and which [TS]

00:49:42   were mostly in space due to technical [TS]

00:49:43   reasons because a lot easier to shoot [TS]

00:49:45   ships against that you know black [TS]

00:49:46   background background light that is to [TS]

00:49:48   try to put them in full daylight on a [TS]

00:49:50   planet with Sun and everything [TS]

00:49:52   now this is something we are you know we [TS]

00:49:54   haven't seen before and why wouldn't [TS]

00:49:55   they be dog fighting over the Sanders if [TS]

00:49:57   they're you know if if the Empire is in [TS]

00:50:00   for whoever is flying these fighters and [TS]

00:50:02   shoot whoever is playing the money and [TS]

00:50:03   falcon in the original trilogy you just [TS]

00:50:06   had to happen [TS]

00:50:06   suffice it to say they take off from the [TS]

00:50:08   desert plant and they go into space at [TS]

00:50:09   whatever point there will be some kind [TS]

00:50:10   of chase and it's like now we can have [TS]

00:50:12   this take place here now [TS]

00:50:13   well I not only that but I think about [TS]

00:50:14   the again adding tension things like now [TS]

00:50:16   you have to think about gravity because [TS]

00:50:18   there's a planet below and barely okay [TS]

00:50:21   you don't need to think about how much i [TS]

00:50:23   have no i don't think i can take offense [TS]

00:50:24   but like it is like a when that seemed [TS]

00:50:26   comes around and he's that close like [TS]

00:50:27   the ship is that close to putting into [TS]

00:50:29   something that's a moment but don't [TS]

00:50:31   crash you know like there's nothing a [TS]

00:50:32   hit and space i got the asteroids after [TS]

00:50:34   anything like what's it it changes the [TS]

00:50:37   rules for for how things go here yeah [TS]

00:50:38   you can we try to think about the [TS]

00:50:40   aerodynamics of any ships it's not [TS]

00:50:42   obviously compliant I think someone did [TS]

00:50:44   a thing about the TIE fighters and how [TS]

00:50:45   like they would just share part yeah [TS]

00:50:49   that X agonal come earlier the solar [TS]

00:50:52   panels are getting all the Sun the [TS]

00:50:54   although they look kind of white in this [TS]

00:50:55   shot to which I thought was interesting [TS]

00:50:57   yeah sure they are like you know where I [TS]

00:50:59   time there I TIE fighters [TS]

00:51:01   they're all black and white now they [TS]

00:51:03   look well they look like they got a [TS]

00:51:04   see-through panels [TS]

00:51:06   yeah you're right now little transition [TS]

00:51:08   side panels [TS]

00:51:09   I what I like about this is the same [TS]

00:51:10   thing i said earlier about the [TS]

00:51:11   stormtroopers which is again I thought [TS]

00:51:13   you'd nub [TS]

00:51:14   why are there tie fighters yeah we have [TS]

00:51:16   again it's good because it is sending [TS]

00:51:18   the message like look this is still what [TS]

00:51:19   you know this is not gonna have a story [TS]

00:51:21   about the politics involving putting [TS]

00:51:23   back together HTML shooting each other [TS]

00:51:26   and guys fighting with t-shaped [TS]

00:51:27   lightsabers get on board that's right [TS]

00:51:29   have long discussions about what the [TS]

00:51:32   optimal form of government for that [TS]

00:51:33   should we have a bicameral legislature [TS]

00:51:36   that is that is coming in the next [TS]

00:51:38   trailer my just how do we have two [TS]

00:51:40   senators like 10 people on that planet [TS]

00:51:43   well it did you do to the the the way [TS]

00:51:47   that the Republic was set up the smaller [TS]

00:51:49   planets wanted as much representation of [TS]

00:51:52   a larger planet so everybody has two [TS]

00:51:54   senators a number of Representatives [TS]

00:51:56   proportionate to the population does [TS]

00:51:58   sure so that all be in the spin-off [TS]

00:52:00   series Star Wars Constitution it'll be a [TS]

00:52:04   1776 star wars over slavery will be a [TS]

00:52:06   big issue is that means going to be well [TS]

00:52:09   you gotta let us keep the slaves because [TS]

00:52:11   otherwise interact Union oh my that's it [TS]

00:52:16   that's the whole thing [TS]

00:52:18   there's a there's a title which doesnt I [TS]

00:52:20   think it's for interesting that this is [TS]

00:52:22   being sold as star wars the force [TS]

00:52:23   awakens episode 7 does not appear at any [TS]

00:52:26   point that you know soda has been [TS]

00:52:29   poisoned as a as a format for Star Wars [TS]

00:52:31   middle names [TS]

00:52:32   well I think will seed in the onion [TS]

00:52:34   opening cross obviously but yeah it's [TS]

00:52:36   not marketed this episode 7 it's [TS]

00:52:38   marketed as the force awakens period [TS]

00:52:40   right [TS]

00:52:41   yep whatever just searching for a [TS]

00:52:43   download of this there's no piercings [TS]

00:52:45   and this around there was a fan-made [TS]

00:52:48   thing called star wars the force awakens [TS]

00:52:49   from like 2006 i believe oh of course [TS]

00:52:53   you guys are like every permutation has [TS]

00:52:55   been used come on I know but it's just [TS]

00:52:58   interesting that you know that out there [TS]

00:52:59   are some a bunch of fans who spent you [TS]

00:53:01   know months possibly years of their [TS]

00:53:03   lives making a fan-made thing called the [TS]

00:53:04   force awakens and now they're just going [TS]

00:53:06   to be bombarded with a real thing called [TS]

00:53:08   yeah i think they're probably just [TS]

00:53:09   really excited though if you spent that [TS]

00:53:11   much time making a Star Wars fan film [TS]

00:53:12   like 10 years ago [TS]

00:53:13   you're probably super sight that they [TS]

00:53:15   use [TS]

00:53:15   same making spirit and their google [TS]

00:53:17   juices is about to expire as we speak so [TS]

00:53:19   say whatever hope to be anywhere in the [TS]

00:53:21   search results for that shit query that [TS]

00:53:23   time is now it's going the last thing I [TS]

00:53:25   want is right after the December 2015 [TS]

00:53:27   things that we do get a little [TS]

00:53:28   lightsaber noise in the background [TS]

00:53:29   yeah that's the sound of a lightsaber [TS]

00:53:31   turning off that right it's turning [TS]

00:53:34   turning turning turning around town [TS]

00:53:36   yeah yep turning out sorry played it [TS]

00:53:39   yeah and so like that again in typical [TS]

00:53:42   modern trailer parlance if they were [TS]

00:53:45   going to do another little you know [TS]

00:53:47   Shaston erectus entertained at the end [TS]

00:53:50   there would be no true becomes onscreen [TS]

00:53:52   for a second roars little rd do head [TS]

00:53:54   spins around you know nothing nothing [TS]

00:53:56   you know any of that [TS]

00:53:57   nope they're I mean they're very I think [TS]

00:54:00   JJ Abrams is very widely wisely hoarding [TS]

00:54:03   all of those things to dole them out [TS]

00:54:05   later on and and know that you will get [TS]

00:54:08   excited when you can you know it's [TS]

00:54:09   either that the real trailer you know [TS]

00:54:11   which will come out in six months but [TS]

00:54:12   that's what i was going to go to next [TS]

00:54:14   which is what what what comes next and [TS]

00:54:16   it's clear that they've decided to do I [TS]

00:54:18   mean look these guys know what they're [TS]

00:54:20   doing this is the modern this is that [TS]

00:54:23   how you roll out a movie right this is [TS]

00:54:24   how they roll out the Marvel movies at [TS]

00:54:26   at Disney and Marvel this is how pics [TS]

00:54:28   are rules that look this is how you roll [TS]

00:54:29   out of movies you get a teaser a year [TS]

00:54:31   ahead of time you maybe you really still [TS]

00:54:33   with some point there's a there's a [TS]

00:54:35   there's another teaser trailer there's [TS]

00:54:37   truly to their there's a trailer and you [TS]

00:54:40   know they've got and they probably [TS]

00:54:41   already know roughly when they're doing [TS]

00:54:43   all of those things and they're not [TS]

00:54:44   gonna parcel this out to us if they're [TS]

00:54:46   smart again I feel like they also will [TS]

00:54:48   learn from the mistakes of episode 1 and [TS]

00:54:50   not oversaturate and terms of like [TS]

00:54:53   having multiple different version like [TS]

00:54:55   multiple trailers right starts to reveal [TS]

00:54:57   too much of the movie it's especially [TS]

00:54:59   with something like Star Wars where [TS]

00:55:01   everybody already like as soon as you [TS]

00:55:03   put this out there everybody knows it's [TS]

00:55:05   there right like you don't need to [TS]

00:55:06   advertise this movie that much you can [TS]

00:55:09   be kind of deliver it and and much more [TS]

00:55:12   conservative about it then you might [TS]

00:55:13   have to do for a property that is not [TS]

00:55:15   otherwise established and so I I think [TS]

00:55:17   there's a lot there could be really [TS]

00:55:21   clever to do some you know not do too [TS]

00:55:23   much for this but keep a lot of mystery [TS]

00:55:25   about it and sort of retain a lot of the [TS]

00:55:27   sort of juicy parts of it for [TS]

00:55:29   Iran episode was trailers burn bags they [TS]

00:55:31   have a right now either with the guys [TS]

00:55:32   coming out of the swamp and then i had a [TS]

00:55:33   couple trailers but that what they [TS]

00:55:35   overdid it was the TV ads and [TS]

00:55:36   over-the-top home TV as you have like [TS]

00:55:39   they weren't adding anything and it was [TS]

00:55:40   just confusing things and I think the [TS]

00:55:41   approach they're using for this movie is [TS]

00:55:43   much more sort of modern in you know [TS]

00:55:46   Star Wars rebels is essentially an [TS]

00:55:47   extended trailer for this movie and that [TS]

00:55:49   but it is it is showing things from that [TS]

00:55:52   universe that looks similar to the movie [TS]

00:55:54   is keeping star wars in the public [TS]

00:55:55   consciousness and it's making sure that [TS]

00:55:58   kids will know the star wars still thing [TS]

00:56:00   it is still an ongoing thing that you [TS]

00:56:02   know kids are watching Star Wars rebels [TS]

00:56:04   and i'm sure it will you leave them [TS]

00:56:06   directly into this moment I just I just [TS]

00:56:11   I just paste it into the into our little [TS]

00:56:13   i am the be a meme awaken switches the [TS]

00:56:16   lightsabers with like eight things [TS]

00:56:18   coming off of the many things coming off [TS]

00:56:22   of it [TS]

00:56:22   yeah it looks like it looks like an [TS]

00:56:25   ordinary person who's going to grab a [TS]

00:56:26   lightsaber handle activated and 17 [TS]

00:56:28   blades computer and porcupine blade they [TS]

00:56:32   call it well I was picturing jason's [TS]

00:56:33   thing where it's like oh yeah just [TS]

00:56:35   blowing off extra stuff like what if it [TS]

00:56:36   comes out the back of the handle that's [TS]

00:56:38   terrible as terrible design does that [TS]

00:56:40   boys what what do I have to do to get [TS]

00:56:42   you in this later okay i guess i could i [TS]

00:56:44   can add 10 more beams are together it'll [TS]

00:56:47   sell better do the ones that come out of [TS]

00:56:48   the hand look uncomfortable you just [TS]

00:56:50   gotta hold it just right you can do what [TS]

00:56:52   you do in that our problem [TS]

00:56:55   I mean we've continually see again you [TS]

00:56:57   know John reference there was probably a [TS]

00:56:58   couple times the the Darth malish [TS]

00:57:00   lightsaber in that one used by the [TS]

00:57:02   Inquisitr which not only has two plates [TS]

00:57:03   but also spins around which has kind of [TS]

00:57:06   a general grievous thing going and [TS]

00:57:07   everyone's like you just take a bunch of [TS]

00:57:09   nobodies that one had like an [TS]

00:57:10   interesting plot thing where you know he [TS]

00:57:12   keeps the ones from his vanquished foes [TS]

00:57:13   because why would you throw them out [TS]

00:57:14   there perfectly good and then put small [TS]

00:57:15   hands and he's been same reason of the [TS]

00:57:17   TIE fighters in the Stormtrooper here [TS]

00:57:18   perfectly good stormtrooper armor don't [TS]

00:57:20   throw it out [TS]

00:57:21   yeah I think it would be better like if [TS]

00:57:22   I had to find a new lightsaber our [TS]

00:57:24   direction through the set of movies what [TS]

00:57:26   i would do on Syracuse's dream job yeah [TS]

00:57:29   I like savor our director is ignoring [TS]

00:57:31   ignoring the shapes of the handles what [TS]

00:57:33   i would do is if we have two sides here [TS]

00:57:35   i would decide what the Whiteside [TS]

00:57:36   lightsabers look like and what the [TS]

00:57:38   darkside lightsabers look like and they [TS]

00:57:39   were just [TS]

00:57:40   actually be kind of like it you know and [TS]

00:57:42   then lord of the rings movies where you [TS]

00:57:43   have what or what an art store looks [TS]

00:57:45   like and what elements are looks like [TS]

00:57:47   and then what the generic menso like [TS]

00:57:48   they have things like all the people all [TS]

00:57:50   the riders of rohan have someone looking [TS]

00:57:51   source all the Elvis towards you have [TS]

00:57:53   share similar sort of theme and so I [TS]

00:57:55   would give them things before we know [TS]

00:57:57   we've done i could only see one thing or [TS]

00:57:58   whatever but within the themes you can [TS]

00:58:00   do variations but I don't like the idea [TS]

00:58:01   of just everybody's life savers just [TS]

00:58:04   randomly different like you if you're [TS]

00:58:06   gonna have one unique snowflake i'm [TS]

00:58:07   garth model special because he has a [TS]

00:58:08   double in daylight savings guys [TS]

00:58:09   especially since t-shape I said well the [TS]

00:58:11   dark side in the prequels everybody has [TS]

00:58:13   a different light so you got a curved [TS]

00:58:14   handle lightsaber you got it should [TS]

00:58:16   there should be a there should be a [TS]

00:58:18   thing like sift lightsaber should look [TS]

00:58:19   like this with variations like sidelight [TS]

00:58:21   here which looks like this direction i'm [TS]

00:58:22   starting talking in terms of how many [TS]

00:58:24   blades and where they are and i'm [TS]

00:58:25   talking about handle you know what i [TS]

00:58:27   mean but I always sort of rebuilding the [TS]

00:58:28   idea that the all the city need to have [TS]

00:58:31   red lightsaber is like what if you what [TS]

00:58:33   if that's not your favorite color [TS]

00:58:34   like what if you're a like SF and your [TS]

00:58:36   favorite color is green like that really [TS]

00:58:37   sucks i bet it really hurts your stealth [TS]

00:58:40   abilities to calculate the main simply [TS]

00:58:43   would be you know some water war all I [TS]

00:58:45   table should be blue or green [TS]

00:58:46   why do white with me right because as [TS]

00:58:48   soon as you pull out your lights able to [TS]

00:58:49   turn out like that guy's definitely evil [TS]

00:58:51   we should just kill him right now [TS]

00:58:52   especially his life looks awfully me and [TS]

00:58:54   Static yeah it is because the good guy [TS]

00:58:57   is gonna turn out that he's he appears [TS]

00:58:59   when we hear and light maybe he's the [TS]

00:59:02   hero and he was Jeff I and this is all a [TS]

00:59:04   giant screw you and I will not my type [TS]

00:59:07   cast by the color of my lightsaber what [TS]

00:59:11   if you like a purple lightsaber like [TS]

00:59:13   mace windu yeah I think there's some [TS]

00:59:15   kind of I don't know the details with [TS]

00:59:16   some kind of thing about the the colors [TS]

00:59:18   and the crystals and how difficult it is [TS]

00:59:20   to make each one of them and also that [TS]

00:59:22   was that [TS]

00:59:22   remember they had an episode in clone [TS]

00:59:24   wars about there's an episode where they [TS]

00:59:25   have to go find different crystals but [TS]

00:59:27   it's like the hardest of all is the blue [TS]

00:59:28   down nation let's see you can read more [TS]

00:59:30   about this in my Jedi self-help book [TS]

00:59:32   what color is your lights and ok looking [TS]

00:59:35   on amazon Tatooine seriously that's your [TS]

00:59:39   that's your new fan fish could be what [TS]

00:59:42   color's your lightsaber tips for Jedi [TS]

00:59:44   add a crossroads [TS]

00:59:47   you know I don't know [TS]

00:59:48   anything more we should say about this [TS]

00:59:50   thing I mean we've only been talking for [TS]

00:59:52   hosting network of that 80 seconds of [TS]

00:59:55   your trailer it's gonna kill me to wait [TS]

00:59:58   a year now and I really [TS]

00:59:58   a year now and I really [TS]

01:00:00   you know I get in with the enzyme going [TS]

01:00:02   to be i hope i get when i was a when I [TS]

01:00:04   was much younger I remember story told [TS]

01:00:06   me about my cousin who was convinced she [TS]

01:00:07   was gonna die before return the Jedi [TS]

01:00:09   came out because like you should know so [TS]

01:00:11   she saw the end of the Empire in the [TS]

01:00:12   theaters when she was a kid and she's [TS]

01:00:14   like I'm never gonna make it to be so [TS]

01:00:16   yeah in some ways it feels like here so [TS]

01:00:18   long but at the same time it's like [TS]

01:00:21   trying to do the avoiding spoilers thing [TS]

01:00:23   I think it's just gonna be really [TS]

01:00:24   difficult and i referenced in the in the [TS]

01:00:27   six colors post I wrote The Phantom [TS]

01:00:29   Menace soundtrack debacle was below yes [TS]

01:00:31   it's the quiet grounds funeral trip yeah [TS]

01:00:34   worst spoil ever like two days [TS]

01:00:37   beforehand about the soundtrack flipped [TS]

01:00:39   over what this guy dies [TS]

01:00:41   yeah so I'm going to avoid I as much as [TS]

01:00:43   I want to listen to the soundtrack gotta [TS]

01:00:45   wait until after the movie comes out got [TS]

01:00:46   ya so it's like careful [TS]

01:00:48   we're going to walk down between now and [TS]

01:00:50   then but doesn't learn their lesson that [TS]

01:00:52   the the episode 7 soundtrack each track [TS]

01:00:54   is going to be just like what ? surname [TS]

01:00:57   future that we know it's coming thank [TS]

01:00:58   you everybody dies right everybody [TS]

01:01:01   produced and c3po funeral like every [TS]

01:01:04   character and character movies [TS]

01:01:05   misdirection you don't know what JJ [TS]

01:01:07   Abrams just trolling yeah with us that's [TS]

01:01:09   right will be the special special [TS]

01:01:11   edition early edition now I'm kind of [TS]

01:01:14   glad this trailer does not meet my [TS]

01:01:17   expectations because it's helping me [TS]

01:01:19   tamp down like this it's helping me tamp [TS]

01:01:22   down the enthusiasm for do not repeat [TS]

01:01:24   the mistake of episode 1 and tried to [TS]

01:01:26   keep my expectations in line you know [TS]

01:01:29   yeah I I can't I can't do it like I'm [TS]

01:01:32   trying I i admit i'm trying but I'm i [TS]

01:01:35   will never not love the idea of new [TS]

01:01:37   stories in this universe i may be [TS]

01:01:39   constantly disappointed but I love this [TS]

01:01:42   this universe so much that I'm always [TS]

01:01:44   like I will never not be excited at the [TS]

01:01:45   possibility that there will be a good [TS]

01:01:47   story [TS]

01:01:48   well it's just marvelous ation of Star [TS]

01:01:50   Wars is good and that like we now don't [TS]

01:01:53   have to hang all of our hopes on the you [TS]

01:01:56   know towards 3some every couple of years [TS]

01:01:58   releases from one particular tortured [TS]

01:02:00   genius now will be a franchise and if 12 [TS]

01:02:03   or you know if we get some you know [TS]

01:02:05   Green Lantern's mixed in so long as long [TS]

01:02:07   as we get them along with like the [TS]

01:02:08   ironman villains don't cross the streams [TS]

01:02:10   that's not even marvel [TS]

01:02:11   no but I don't say i know i would say [TS]

01:02:14   like superhero movies superhero movies [TS]

01:02:15   are thing it's not like we have to wait [TS]

01:02:17   for and you know when we have a stinker [TS]

01:02:19   superhero movie like matter what they'll [TS]

01:02:21   be there will be more more will be along [TS]

01:02:22   in a minute just wait like a bus stop [TS]

01:02:23   and I just can't work and so with the [TS]

01:02:25   star wars one with them both doing the [TS]

01:02:26   episode numbers and like the standalone [TS]

01:02:28   films if these end up being fingers it's [TS]

01:02:31   not like now I am crushed for the next [TS]

01:02:32   three years or nine years or however [TS]

01:02:34   long you know there's hope for the next [TS]

01:02:36   one [TS]

01:02:37   yeah because it's not the same crew [TS]

01:02:39   making them it's not the same people [TS]

01:02:40   writing that was not saying people [TS]

01:02:41   directing all of them there is always [TS]

01:02:43   hope so this is like Dan said this is [TS]

01:02:45   actually our first chance to get on the [TS]

01:02:48   big screen stories in this universe in a [TS]

01:02:50   legitimate fashion big stories the [TS]

01:02:51   universe used to be movies made with the [TS]

01:02:54   approval of george lucas was not a [TS]

01:02:55   particularly diverse way to get stories [TS]

01:02:57   in this universe right right and at the [TS]

01:03:00   expectation level was so high and they [TS]

01:03:01   were they were they were all these [TS]

01:03:03   perfect you know flowers they had to [TS]

01:03:05   succeed or fail but they would be like [TS]

01:03:07   one and then they walk away and it's [TS]

01:03:08   years and now it's a machine that's [TS]

01:03:10   going to be putting out Star Wars movies [TS]

01:03:13   every year and he it's different if most [TS]

01:03:15   of these are as good as you know the [TS]

01:03:17   average Marvel movie i will be pretty [TS]

01:03:20   pleased i can set my expectations are [TS]

01:03:21   higher than that happen if they are only [TS]

01:03:24   as good as the average Marvel movie i [TS]

01:03:25   will be missed disappointed i'm hoping [TS]

01:03:27   for some that stand out i'm i'm prepared [TS]

01:03:29   for the best thinkers sure I mean that [TS]

01:03:31   was 42 [TS]

01:03:32   hey you know what I like 30 like the [TS]

01:03:34   bell curve i think the bell curve is is [TS]

01:03:36   smaller here in terms of i agree with [TS]

01:03:38   John that I I want them to be better and [TS]

01:03:39   higher than that but it's like if the [TS]

01:03:41   worst one is as bad as a mediocre Marvel [TS]

01:03:43   movie like that's pretty good i don't [TS]

01:03:46   know i still don't know if we have room [TS]

01:03:47   for something like a Thor one because [TS]

01:03:48   for one it's a silly movie it's kind of [TS]

01:03:51   a trifle but it's fun i have affection [TS]

01:03:53   for it and then it's like all right [TS]

01:03:54   whatever they like what can a marvel [TS]

01:03:57   superhero movie like it could be kind of [TS]

01:03:58   more serious like you know the captain [TS]

01:04:01   america one was kind of our straight [TS]

01:04:02   ahead at taking itself some semi [TS]

01:04:05   seriously but Thor was you know i [TS]

01:04:08   unabashedly silly and not the same you [TS]

01:04:12   know not as heavy what is the Avengers [TS]

01:04:14   and everything is all serious and stuff [TS]

01:04:15   like that are not as angst-ridden asst [TS]

01:04:17   as Hulk I don't know if we are get ready [TS]

01:04:20   for a light-hearted [TS]

01:04:22   starting with the guardians of the [TS]

01:04:24   galaxy mean yeah like that was that [TS]

01:04:26   yeah in that direction or like you know [TS]

01:04:28   i don't i don't know it will take a [TS]

01:04:30   while [TS]

01:04:31   I think you have to establish your good [TS]

01:04:33   ones for you have to start with the star [TS]

01:04:35   trek reboot did was like here is here is [TS]

01:04:37   an example of the form as you expect [TS]

01:04:39   with a modern twist [TS]

01:04:41   ah and like what what frees you up to be [TS]

01:04:45   able to make a goofy movie about drugs [TS]

01:04:47   or something I don't know this is not [TS]

01:04:49   going to be the goofy movie address this [TS]

01:04:50   has to be the straight-ahead star wars [TS]

01:04:52   movie and maybe after three or four of [TS]

01:04:54   these you're freed up where ya been [TS]

01:04:56   then you get the spin-off which is like [TS]

01:04:58   two hours of like yoda bodily humor soon [TS]

01:05:01   you're gonna love that you love it John [TS]

01:05:03   yeah I don't like after you have to sort [TS]

01:05:06   of it you have to sort of establish your [TS]

01:05:08   credibility first to make the other sort [TS]

01:05:10   of ancillary movies in the universe work [TS]

01:05:13   and right i don't know what the timeline [TS]

01:05:15   is gonna be like to because of these [TS]

01:05:16   these three movies are obviously going [TS]

01:05:17   to be you know an arc that travels [TS]

01:05:20   through I don't know how you leave the [TS]

01:05:21   other movies in between the matter even [TS]

01:05:22   know what lenses and and it's a back [TS]

01:05:24   it's the reverse to what we saw with the [TS]

01:05:25   Avengers right where we saw all the [TS]

01:05:27   individual movies come out and then they [TS]

01:05:28   culminate in the adventures now we're [TS]

01:05:30   seeing the sort of tentpole think ahead [TS]

01:05:31   of time and then it sort of balloons out [TS]

01:05:34   behind that into all these different [TS]

01:05:35   properties so there is a lot there's a [TS]

01:05:38   lot obviously riding on this movie you [TS]

01:05:40   know it also has the best chance that [TS]

01:05:43   this is the modern type of thing with [TS]

01:05:45   harry potter and the Marvel movies where [TS]

01:05:47   you have a franchise with a corporate [TS]

01:05:48   owner and the corporate owner is fairly [TS]

01:05:51   savvy about or maybe not savvy about [TS]

01:05:54   least not afraid to try different things [TS]

01:05:55   try different directors try different [TS]

01:05:57   approaches you know the the Harry Potter [TS]

01:05:59   movies varied wildly in you know in in [TS]

01:06:02   tone in appearance and I mean obviously [TS]

01:06:04   the cast was the same but that's that's [TS]

01:06:06   what you know sort you sort of hold the [TS]

01:06:07   story in the cast constant and see how [TS]

01:06:09   you can vary within that universe and [TS]

01:06:11   they're not afraid to do that they're [TS]

01:06:12   not afraid to give you know this movie [TS]

01:06:14   the joss whedon and this movie do you [TS]

01:06:15   know someone else and like mix it up and [TS]

01:06:17   try to get a list everything and if it [TS]

01:06:20   doesn't work out of some combination of [TS]

01:06:21   people doesn't seem to gel try a [TS]

01:06:23   different combination don't just say [TS]

01:06:24   like he's our star to star wars guy he's [TS]

01:06:27   going to get the whole franchise like a [TS]

01:06:29   showrunner for the next 15 years and no [TS]

01:06:31   one wants to do that anymore except [TS]

01:06:33   George Lucas because this is baby [TS]

01:06:35   he's out of the picture and be it gives [TS]

01:06:37   you hope for the future and that no [TS]

01:06:38   matter what this combination of this [TS]

01:06:40   production team does or like doctor who [TS]

01:06:41   like you don't like this production team [TS]

01:06:43   you don't like the showrunner wait long [TS]

01:06:44   long enough it'll it'll cycle around [TS]

01:06:46   again so that gives will get inevitably [TS]

01:06:48   will get the reboots at some point [TS]

01:06:50   yeah I'm ready for the reboots I want [TS]

01:06:52   them to I want to see and you know [TS]

01:06:54   original trilogy Star Wars reboot before [TS]

01:06:56   i die so someone get that on their [TS]

01:06:58   schedule somewhere I think you can [TS]

01:07:00   safely say that that is in Disney's [TS]

01:07:01   vault somewhere [TS]

01:07:02   yeah i mean Marvel has has a schedule to [TS]

01:07:04   2020 already so I don't know what [TS]

01:07:05   they're waiting on how long i think i'm [TS]

01:07:07   going to live they better get this in [TS]

01:07:08   the planning stages available but the [TS]

01:07:10   fact that they're probably they're [TS]

01:07:12   probably planning a lot I i think i [TS]

01:07:14   think we've heard some of the ideas [TS]

01:07:16   about what what some of these inner [TS]

01:07:17   interim movies are going to be and I [TS]

01:07:19   think they're going over sort of classic [TS]

01:07:20   characters and telling stories with them [TS]

01:07:22   i suspect that may happen for the first [TS]

01:07:24   few years just as the force awakens and [TS]

01:07:27   that storyline kind of goes forward [TS]

01:07:30   although i would love it to love to see [TS]

01:07:33   a Marvel less kind of thing where [TS]

01:07:34   they're all kind of like sharing a [TS]

01:07:36   universe and telling interlocking [TS]

01:07:38   stories something right the breakdown [TS]

01:07:40   gonna be it's early to force the second [TS]

01:07:42   movie is gonna be the force its news so [TS]

01:07:43   that's really definitely got the horse [TS]

01:07:45   gets out of bed makes a cup of coffee [TS]

01:07:47   and decided man and forgot to itv I [TS]

01:07:52   think this does you know mention well [TS]

01:07:53   with the idea of we're talking about [TS]

01:07:54   like sort of what if they're you know if [TS]

01:07:56   there had been no more no more Jedi or [TS]

01:07:58   for sensitive people for the last 30 [TS]

01:08:00   years or whatever this covers and all of [TS]

01:08:02   a sudden now we're starting to see you [TS]

01:08:04   know there are people with you get my [TS]

01:08:06   kind of the flash approach where it's [TS]

01:08:08   like now there are people with powers [TS]

01:08:09   but some of the market and some of them [TS]

01:08:10   are bad and we get to explore what that [TS]

01:08:12   looks like over the course of 20 movies [TS]

01:08:16   yeah well I I appreciate the idea that [TS]

01:08:18   the this Universal rich that there are [TS]

01:08:20   also you can take the approach of having [TS]

01:08:22   these anthology movies that are just on [TS]

01:08:24   just in the star wars universe somewhere [TS]

01:08:26   at some time and that seems to be where [TS]

01:08:29   they're starting and we'll see where [TS]

01:08:31   they go from there [TS]

01:08:32   i I don't know whether it's better this [TS]

01:08:34   is such a rich universe that having [TS]

01:08:36   going back and being able to explore [TS]

01:08:38   boba fett maybe it's not so bad but you [TS]

01:08:41   know I don't know that the way the [TS]

01:08:43   Marvel Universe thing has done it has [TS]

01:08:45   been to have it all be intertwined and [TS]

01:08:48   happen [TS]

01:08:48   simultaneously I think you can do that [TS]

01:08:50   the model franchise history on patients [TS]

01:08:52   in that I obviously if you did you know [TS]

01:08:54   the complex stories you know where it's [TS]

01:08:55   going anyway but that there is no [TS]

01:08:57   equivalent comic book stories here they [TS]

01:08:58   can have the patience to for example [TS]

01:08:59   have a movie about a foreign sensitive [TS]

01:09:02   person on the planet that we haven't [TS]

01:09:03   really seen before and just have it be [TS]

01:09:05   like a personal story or like [TS]

01:09:07   coming-of-age story and maybe maybe have [TS]

01:09:09   a good coming-of-age story like a ghost [TS]

01:09:12   a John Hughes movie in space but like [TS]

01:09:13   they're in Jedi high school and that the [TS]

01:09:15   people know whatever like just the whole [TS]

01:09:17   kind of the ice i called my cell called [TS]

01:09:19   for sensitive life [TS]

01:09:21   yeah just to work your way into that and [TS]

01:09:23   they like what was the point of that [TS]

01:09:24   movie was just kind of a or like a harry [TS]

01:09:26   potter type thing you know you are a [TS]

01:09:28   person with power is this problem with [TS]

01:09:29   that you have problems with your family [TS]

01:09:30   whatever it's like what was the point of [TS]

01:09:31   that movie while you build that [TS]

01:09:32   character up and now that character is [TS]

01:09:34   ready to step up to the next level of [TS]

01:09:36   the franchise and by you know several [TS]

01:09:38   movies down the line that person who you [TS]

01:09:39   still have a coming-of-age story or [TS]

01:09:40   their their story of their life in the [TS]

01:09:42   slums of of tatooine working for the [TS]

01:09:44   huts or whatever that can culminate in [TS]

01:09:46   each person who makes it out of each one [TS]

01:09:48   of those individual movies becoming an [TS]

01:09:50   important person as they meet in a sort [TS]

01:09:52   of secondary movie and that you know [TS]

01:09:54   working your way up to what we assume to [TS]

01:09:56   be the the important trilogy event which [TS]

01:09:59   is you know good versus evil on a grand [TS]

01:10:00   scale that happen will happen and I [TS]
