00:00:20   current you know when a recent episode [TS]

00:00:22   we talk about a movie that came out in [TS]

00:00:24   the early eighties we're gonna mix it up [TS]

00:00:27   a little bit we're going to talk about a [TS]

00:00:28   movie that came out last week as we [TS]

00:00:30   record this [TS]

00:00:31   it's captain america the winter soldier [TS]

00:00:33   and with our snap judgments well with a [TS]

00:00:36   week to consider what we think of this [TS]

00:00:39   movie we thought we would talk about it [TS]

00:00:40   and be a little card for once so those [TS]

00:00:43   of you in 2016 who are saying that this [TS]

00:00:46   movie came out a long time ago why are [TS]

00:00:48   they talking as if its current it was [TS]

00:00:49   new to us [TS]

00:00:50   joining me to talk about the winter [TS]

00:01:11   Mark Tonio no moisture is too jaan is [TS]

00:01:14   here hello in Winter Soldier America [TS]

00:01:17   captain's you [TS]

00:01:18   yeah if you had the over-under at one [TS]

00:01:23   minute for Moises doing a voice you pick [TS]

00:01:26   the under a new one [TS]

00:01:27   good job all a returning panelist for [TS]

00:01:30   the first return hehe one guy didn't [TS]

00:01:34   like it when he talked about iron man [TS]

00:01:36   and you know what I say to that I invite [TS]

00:01:38   him back to talk about another Marvel [TS]

00:01:40   movie it's guy English hi guy [TS]

00:01:42   alright have to be here that's right so [TS]

00:01:44   take it that guy can you that time you [TS]

00:01:47   were on talking about i like i like this [TS]

00:01:49   guy way better than that i like this guy [TS]

00:01:51   does that guy that guy doesn't know guy [TS]

00:01:52   and I believe his first visit to the [TS]

00:01:56   incomparable am i right Rene Ritchie [TS]

00:01:58   hail Hydra Jason indeed [TS]

00:02:01   yeah well done i think Canada may just [TS]

00:02:04   be Hydra that's my theory [TS]

00:02:07   you and I are gonna get us running and [TS]

00:02:10   hiding in our play tennis Marvel phase [TS]

00:02:12   2i guess this is that this is our second [TS]

00:02:16   Marvel I haven't I haven't seen i'm [TS]

00:02:17   going to make a confession i still [TS]

00:02:18   haven't seen thor 2 so I don't know what [TS]

00:02:21   the hell happens in that one but uh a [TS]

00:02:23   lot of have agreed i'm sure i'm sure [TS]

00:02:26   there is a lot of thighs and figures [TS]

00:02:29   that there's a whole there's a whole lot [TS]

00:02:31   of portal in there [TS]

00:02:32   I can't believe you aren't up to date [TS]

00:02:34   that makes me so Thor yeah Wow any [TS]

00:02:39   anyway uh but here we are [TS]

00:02:42   avengers the avengers is is coming on [TS]

00:02:45   and we get another post avengers movie [TS]

00:02:47   like iron man like Thor 2 it's a captain [TS]

00:02:50   america the winter soldier interesting [TS]

00:02:52   decisions they had to make for this [TS]

00:02:54   movie because of course the original [TS]

00:02:56   Captain America is spent spent mostly [TS]

00:02:59   during World War Two and I coming into [TS]

00:03:03   this movie what do you do when when [TS]

00:03:06   you're you're telling a modern-day story [TS]

00:03:08   up steve rogers and you know I I thought [TS]

00:03:10   for a long time they were going to do [TS]

00:03:11   one of those like you fade you know back [TS]

00:03:13   and forth and times they could do a lot [TS]

00:03:15   of of period stuff and they didn't this [TS]

00:03:18   is this is this is a thoroughly modern [TS]

00:03:21   story and it's kind of like Captain [TS]

00:03:23   America and the adventures of shield [TS]

00:03:25   because there's so much shield in here [TS]

00:03:30   there's a plaque there's black widow [TS]

00:03:31   there's Nick Fury lot lots of shield [TS]

00:03:34   stuff so I thought that was interesting [TS]

00:03:36   i owe you [TS]

00:03:37   I don't know people are making for puns [TS]

00:03:39   in the chat room by the way that's [TS]

00:03:40   really nice [TS]

00:03:41   it has to be done so let's start with [TS]

00:03:46   what do we think of the original Captain [TS]

00:03:49   America i should i should start there I [TS]

00:03:52   thought it was really good and I liked [TS]

00:03:54   that it was a it was a world war two [TS]

00:03:57   movie and this was a very different very [TS]

00:04:01   different tone this was a super [TS]

00:04:03   seventies conspiracy movie i think what [TS]

00:04:06   we have the first one which was Joe [TS]

00:04:08   Johnson who also directed the Rocket [TS]

00:04:10   right here at all you know [TS]

00:04:12   yeah and so I mean I think they picked [TS]

00:04:13   the perfect person for that job if if [TS]

00:04:16   you know Steven Spielberg was again sit [TS]

00:04:17   down and do another action adventure [TS]

00:04:20   world war two movie which is pretty much [TS]

00:04:21   that he won't [TS]

00:04:23   so you know I I thought it was really [TS]

00:04:25   cool and I like the idea of switching [TS]

00:04:27   gears because especially when you have a [TS]

00:04:29   character like Captain America who is [TS]

00:04:31   such a patriotic figure it's so much [TS]

00:04:34   more interesting to bring him into the [TS]

00:04:36   modern era where things are not as black [TS]

00:04:37   and white as they are in world war two [TS]

00:04:39   right in world war two we all knew who [TS]

00:04:40   the bad guys were Hydra clearly you know [TS]

00:04:44   and in a modern day things are not so [TS]

00:04:45   cut and dried and so it's interesting to [TS]

00:04:48   see you know how Steve Rogers as a [TS]

00:04:50   character deals with the fact that in [TS]

00:04:52   even in world war two he is like the [TS]

00:04:54   most clean-cut like he's the white hat [TS]

00:04:56   tonight like he is the most clean cetera [TS]

00:04:58   jazz yes [TS]

00:05:00   yeah well and that's what makes him so [TS]

00:05:01   perfect for that you know like for the [TS]

00:05:03   whole super-soldier project is that he [TS]

00:05:05   is the is the weak man who knows the [TS]

00:05:07   value of strength right so you know [TS]

00:05:09   putting him in a modern day where he has [TS]

00:05:10   to contend with the fact that the the [TS]

00:05:12   battle lines are not as clearly drawn [TS]

00:05:14   and America does not have quite as [TS]

00:05:16   untarnished an image it makes it more [TS]

00:05:19   interesting character i think in that [TS]

00:05:21   that really fuels lot of the story for [TS]

00:05:23   me I wouldn't the the thing that i would [TS]

00:05:25   throw in is I gotta find this this link [TS]

00:05:28   that made me want to burn the internet [TS]

00:05:30   down this this guy you know alleging [TS]

00:05:32   that well Captain America's only [TS]

00:05:34   interesting when he's a jerk [TS]

00:05:37   which I think misses the point of why [TS]

00:05:38   you tell Captain America story and I do [TS]

00:05:41   i i'm i'm going to say this right now [TS]

00:05:43   and I'm gonna be so mad be so mad at mr. [TS]

00:05:46   rails into a man of steel conversation [TS]

00:05:48   but characterization is very important [TS]

00:05:52   with easy these iconic characters [TS]

00:05:54   because they are built around [TS]

00:05:55   iconography and when that doesn't quite [TS]

00:05:59   jive you're telling a different story [TS]

00:06:01   and it's for me it's it's the cheapest [TS]

00:06:05   kind of a cop-out where we see [TS]

00:06:08   everything is getting dark and super emo [TS]

00:06:10   and super gritty and gravely and like [TS]

00:06:14   you're gargling razor blades with these [TS]

00:06:16   superheroes and i like that we get to we [TS]

00:06:21   get to we get to balance the you know [TS]

00:06:24   the man out of time the good-hearted [TS]

00:06:26   white hat man dealing with the the moral [TS]

00:06:30   quandary of the modern world which is [TS]

00:06:33   what we you know what comes from the [TS]

00:06:35   original comics but that I I feel like [TS]

00:06:38   they they put a nice fine polish to it [TS]

00:06:41   you know the best elements from the [TS]

00:06:44   original winter soldier story or in here [TS]

00:06:46   but they don't go too far overcorrecting [TS]

00:06:50   in either direction either the you know [TS]

00:06:53   the the paragon of virtue or the world [TS]

00:06:56   full of moral conflict you know we we [TS]

00:06:59   get we get enough of both ingredients [TS]

00:07:01   that it it feels balanced it doesn't [TS]

00:07:04   feel out of character [TS]

00:07:05   it's still jives with the first movie [TS]

00:07:07   though i would i would say that there's [TS]

00:07:09   a there's a character relationship [TS]

00:07:11   between Steve Rogers in a particular [TS]

00:07:12   character that I wish they'd established [TS]

00:07:14   more firmly more indelibly in the first [TS]

00:07:17   movie especially with what this movie is [TS]

00:07:19   and what represents I don't know four [TS]

00:07:21   different spoiler territory yes we [TS]

00:07:23   should say we are firing up the spoiler [TS]

00:07:25   warning you should not listen to this [TS]

00:07:26   podcast if you have not seen this movie [TS]

00:07:28   what is wrong with you [TS]

00:07:32   so 22 very plainly see what I was [TS]

00:07:37   alluding to [TS]

00:07:38   I really wish if there is one big thing [TS]

00:07:41   that I wish I could you know go back and [TS]

00:07:44   tweak from the first movie i really wish [TS]

00:07:46   that we've gotten a stronger more [TS]

00:07:48   indelible kind of touchstone to the [TS]

00:07:51   relationship between cap and Bucky where [TS]

00:07:53   there was some interplay but it you know [TS]

00:07:57   when we in this movie [TS]

00:07:59   flashback to pre winter soldier Bucky [TS]

00:08:01   there it's it's it's almost like OMG [TS]

00:08:06   this guy was in the first movie that's [TS]

00:08:07   right that that they didn't they didn't [TS]

00:08:10   sign post it quite well enough to [TS]

00:08:12   shorthand to get to the end with with [TS]

00:08:14   him in the present day in Captain [TS]

00:08:15   America means that we we miss that [TS]

00:08:17   there's like a montage of like and then [TS]

00:08:19   they had many exciting adventures and [TS]

00:08:22   instead of it being like we really get [TS]

00:08:25   to know [TS]

00:08:25   Bucky's there from the beginning it's [TS]

00:08:27   not written as if mucky is going to come [TS]

00:08:29   back right that's basically what it is [TS]

00:08:31   the first we've not really written with [TS]

00:08:33   the wow we're really gonna pay this off [TS]

00:08:34   later [TS]

00:08:35   even though they might have had an [TS]

00:08:36   inkling that was what going to be what [TS]

00:08:38   was gonna happen and it's all I think [TS]

00:08:40   because they had to compress there and [TS]

00:08:42   you know many exciting adventures in [TS]

00:08:43   World War two but let's get to the end [TS]

00:08:45   now I mean what were they going to do [TS]

00:08:47   other than winter soldier jump straight [TS]

00:08:48   to death of Captain America that doesn't [TS]

00:08:50   make any sense you know I it feels like [TS]

00:08:53   they they they knew that this was going [TS]

00:08:56   to be the next logical step [TS]

00:08:57   if the first one did well enough if [TS]

00:08:59   there was going to be a sequel that this [TS]

00:09:01   was going to be the next story that they [TS]

00:09:02   were going to do and and I feel like it [TS]

00:09:05   they they had to know that because I I [TS]

00:09:09   don't see what else they laid the [TS]

00:09:11   groundwork for because they planned this [TS]

00:09:12   stuff so far in advance you know they [TS]

00:09:15   have no card outlines going out to like [TS]

00:09:17   20 26 years i'm not sure that they knew [TS]

00:09:19   that so so clearly that it was so clear [TS]

00:09:23   with Captain America Renee go ahead [TS]

00:09:24   you're going to say something was gonna [TS]

00:09:26   say that I agree with that i think that [TS]

00:09:27   there was some odd structuring issues [TS]

00:09:29   with the first movie i loved it [TS]

00:09:30   completely but I think there's a lot of [TS]

00:09:33   the setup and then that montage and then [TS]

00:09:35   the conclusion and it didn't really [TS]

00:09:36   allow them to establish that [TS]

00:09:37   relationship and one of my favorite [TS]

00:09:39   version because there have been many of [TS]

00:09:40   Captain America [TS]

00:09:41   is when he I think it's going to stop [TS]

00:09:43   the missile at and the missile blows up [TS]

00:09:45   and he falls into the ocean but but he [TS]

00:09:47   is there with him till nearly the end [TS]

00:09:49   and you see him seeing Bucky die and [TS]

00:09:51   that's a very powerful visual at the end [TS]

00:09:54   of his plummet into the ocean and in the [TS]

00:09:58   movie it happens so early on and then [TS]

00:10:00   you have all the Howling Commandos and [TS]

00:10:01   all the other characters in there [TS]

00:10:03   I think he does get lost amid all the [TS]

00:10:05   characters in the first movie in this [TS]

00:10:07   myth in the Smithsonian there's a UH [TS]

00:10:09   Howling Commandos exhibit which is funny [TS]

00:10:13   because it is like hey it's the guy from [TS]

00:10:15   that montage to note though [TS]

00:10:18   Sebastian Stan you play Bucky has been [TS]

00:10:20   signed apparently for like nine pictures [TS]

00:10:22   so they clearly knew they were going to [TS]

00:10:23   dosometing with him yeah they're gonna [TS]

00:10:26   kill captain america so yeah I think [TS]

00:10:28   that's it down cavity pretty likely that [TS]

00:10:31   the word for future movie star yeah boys [TS]

00:10:34   have you just speculative little [TS]

00:10:36   speculation pure speculation but you [TS]

00:10:38   know you know these comic books even is [TS]

00:10:40   good and they're not killed [TS]

00:10:42   ok i wanna i want to rewind a little bit [TS]

00:10:43   ok so if we talked about Captain America [TS]

00:10:45   being this moral force and in in a kind [TS]

00:10:48   of a a world with a lot of the greys and [TS]

00:10:50   a lot of questions and that's one of the [TS]

00:10:52   nice things about Robert Redford who is [TS]

00:10:55   I think a lot of fun in this movie [TS]

00:10:57   playing the kind of grizzled a spymaster [TS]

00:11:02   who's actually like in these Nick Fury [TS]

00:11:05   is boss he's got like he's on the the [TS]

00:11:08   secretive world Security Council examine [TS]

00:11:11   efforts which has been upgraded to full [TS]

00:11:13   body hot body Holograms from the google [TS]

00:11:15   hangouts that I mean they have injures [TS]

00:11:16   technology [TS]

00:11:17   yes it's improved the 10 and and but I [TS]

00:11:19   like him because he he just radiates in [TS]

00:11:22   that hole early scene with with Captain [TS]

00:11:25   America with Steve Rogers this you know [TS]

00:11:29   we compromise and do what we must in [TS]

00:11:32   order to keep America safe and he's he's [TS]

00:11:35   laying it out it's like I exist in a [TS]

00:11:37   moral gray area for America and Captain [TS]

00:11:39   America's like totally that is not [TS]

00:11:41   captain america right he's not about [TS]

00:11:43   moral gray areas but he is for America [TS]

00:11:45   and i love that I love that combination [TS]

00:11:47   and I thought that was a really nice [TS]

00:11:49   because we get you get some of that from [TS]

00:11:50   nick fury but but I'm a robber was like [TS]

00:11:53   the perfect person to [TS]

00:11:54   having that in that part and saying that [TS]

00:11:56   stuff in the end he's not the [TS]

00:11:58   compromiser really right with me hurry [TS]

00:12:00   and whipping been compromised like the [TS]

00:12:02   guy in the middle was like I'm trying to [TS]

00:12:03   please too you know like my both my [TS]

00:12:05   moral sense as well as like the [TS]

00:12:07   practical sense you know Robert Redford [TS]

00:12:10   yeah I was funny because i really expect [TS]

00:12:11   him to be that sort of politically great [TS]

00:12:13   figure guys I operated a gray area but [TS]

00:12:15   i'm going to usher in a fascist you know [TS]

00:12:17   what I mean world government turns out [TS]

00:12:19   trust me on this one my gray area is [TS]

00:12:21   called Hydra I believe in a mixed free [TS]

00:12:24   market economy but with fascism over all [TS]

00:12:27   of it [TS]

00:12:28   have you seen my drones they're very big [TS]

00:12:30   emphasize those drones that matter what [TS]

00:12:34   that's like i like i like this movie [TS]

00:12:36   better when it was three days of the [TS]

00:12:37   Condor to otherwise known as four days [TS]

00:12:39   of the Condor the captain america has [TS]

00:12:41   always been most interesting when the [TS]

00:12:43   values of America and America itself [TS]

00:12:46   have diverged and he sort of the person [TS]

00:12:48   around which all of that gets to play [TS]

00:12:49   out right right where he's running for [TS]

00:12:51   president or or even generally America [TS]

00:12:54   is not the greatest country in the world [TS]

00:12:55   Renee belgium has freedom [TS]

00:12:58   nah okay yeah-oh call me when Captain [TS]

00:13:01   Belgium's movie i would watch that i [TS]

00:13:03   would totally watch that there'll be [TS]

00:13:04   lots of waffles [TS]

00:13:06   this is a outrageous this is [TS]

00:13:08   anti-american nonsense and I won't stand [TS]

00:13:09   for it anyway I i want to mention so we [TS]

00:13:12   were talking about the the first movie [TS]

00:13:14   and although thatthat's not our topic [TS]

00:13:15   today it is worth talking about it to [TS]

00:13:17   one of the things that's in here that [TS]

00:13:19   I'm really glad made it in even though [TS]

00:13:21   it's sort of dumb have a lot to do with [TS]

00:13:24   the plot of this movie he goes and [TS]

00:13:27   visits Peggy Carter his sort of [TS]

00:13:30   girlfriend from the first movie and [TS]

00:13:33   she's an old she's a very very old lady [TS]

00:13:35   with a bad memory and they reminisce a [TS]

00:13:37   little bit and then she forgets that he [TS]

00:13:39   was there and I but I love that because [TS]

00:13:41   we never got that in the first movie in [TS]

00:13:44   the first movie they say goodbye [TS]

00:13:46   he crashed the plane he's frozen for a [TS]

00:13:48   long time and then he wakes up and then [TS]

00:13:51   we have the Avengers and that's a very [TS]

00:13:52   busy thing and he's got lots to do so [TS]

00:13:55   that was great because we finally steep [TS]

00:13:57   you know IM and with the other seems [TS]

00:13:58   like the the where he writes down things [TS]

00:14:00   that he needs to like the marvin gaye [TS]

00:14:02   album or or what he has seen more games [TS]

00:14:04   that was good that was a relief I really [TS]

00:14:07   this however [TS]

00:14:08   versions of that notepad depending on [TS]

00:14:09   what country you see the movie in those [TS]

00:14:11   certain things are universal including [TS]

00:14:13   Star Wars and Star exactly so i really [TS]

00:14:15   like that they finally got to do some [TS]

00:14:17   more man out of time stuff and they got [TS]

00:14:19   to pay off him meeting not meeting but [TS]

00:14:21   no being with Peggy Carter again I I [TS]

00:14:24   loved that they did all of that because [TS]

00:14:26   they could have just swept by and I [TS]

00:14:29   think as a viewer of that somebody [TS]

00:14:31   really like that first movie i'm glad [TS]

00:14:32   they went back to that and said look no [TS]

00:14:34   he is he's a man out of time and then it [TS]

00:14:36   pays off a little bit later with Arnim [TS]

00:14:37   Zola who's a seventies computer now but [TS]

00:14:41   it's nice that they don't they don't [TS]

00:14:43   overplay it like it could have turned [TS]

00:14:45   into you know sleepy hollow or something [TS]

00:14:47   like that place was rocking to turn into [TS]

00:14:49   a gag and they use it they deploy it [TS]

00:14:51   perfectly in the sense that also keep in [TS]

00:14:54   mind this guy is incredibly smart and [TS]

00:14:55   like a you know tactical and soldier was [TS]

00:14:59   right [TS]

00:14:59   he's going to figure out and adapt like [TS]

00:15:02   that's kind of what he does he's not [TS]

00:15:03   going to be like the bumbling uh you're [TS]

00:15:06   using automatic weapon right you know [TS]

00:15:09   he's gonna figure that out pretty quick [TS]

00:15:11   and so it i like that they did the nice [TS]

00:15:12   throwback to it's like he's writing [TS]

00:15:14   stuff down in a notebook right right and [TS]

00:15:15   you got a record player but he's [TS]

00:15:17   never-before-told by technology right [TS]

00:15:19   because that would be we'd all be really [TS]

00:15:21   said if Captain America is just like [TS]

00:15:23   wait which key to a hit i can never [TS]

00:15:25   remember my password directors actually [TS]

00:15:27   said they taught a modern combat styles [TS]

00:15:29   for this movie because they wanted it to [TS]

00:15:30   look like he done all his research and [TS]

00:15:32   get caught up with everything that i was [TS]

00:15:33   totally going to note that because if [TS]

00:15:35   you watch his fighting style here as [TS]

00:15:36   opposed to the Avengers and the original [TS]

00:15:38   Captain America he clearly knows martial [TS]

00:15:40   arts in this movie which is again I [TS]

00:15:42   think I'm brilliant move because yeah [TS]

00:15:43   he's a he's a soldier he is the soldier [TS]

00:15:46   he's not going to sit around be like and [TS]

00:15:48   I don't know you guys who invented all [TS]

00:15:49   these crazy Marshall started using the [TS]

00:15:51   band just stick with punching people [TS]

00:15:53   really hard to feel like they gotta work [TS]

00:15:54   Hitler on the chin he has he has nothing [TS]

00:15:57   else to do [TS]

00:15:58   I mean that's the other thing is this is [TS]

00:15:59   what he does right and that's that's [TS]

00:16:00   actually i think one of the point things [TS]

00:16:02   about his early scene with Robert [TS]

00:16:04   Redford is you know the the questions [TS]

00:16:06   what else would you do [TS]

00:16:08   I mean this is all you're not only are [TS]

00:16:09   you a soldier through and through but [TS]

00:16:11   you're out of time you you know if you [TS]

00:16:13   quit [TS]

00:16:14   there's nothing this is this is you this [TS]

00:16:17   is your entire identity or or is it i [TS]

00:16:19   mean that's the question but so course [TS]

00:16:21   you learn [TS]

00:16:21   it's all the cool stuff you can because [TS]

00:16:23   that's what else he's got that it's that [TS]

00:16:26   and watching movies is barbershop [TS]

00:16:28   quartet is all dead [TS]

00:16:29   yeah mentioning that that's that's the [TS]

00:16:31   same it's in the trailer where he jumps [TS]

00:16:33   out of the jumps out of the airplane arm [TS]

00:16:36   i want to talk about the action scenes [TS]

00:16:37   in this movie because i think it's [TS]

00:16:40   really interesting we you know we've [TS]

00:16:42   done comfortable we did our man of steel [TS]

00:16:44   episode we did you know we did it was [TS]

00:16:46   one of the quibbles about iron man 3 I [TS]

00:16:48   feel like I'm getting I'm gonna don't [TS]

00:16:51   speak for everybody but I i feel like [TS]

00:16:52   i'm getting a little exhausted with the [TS]

00:16:54   kind of scenes of gigantic urban [TS]

00:16:56   disaster even in the Avengers which I [TS]

00:16:58   candle did fairly well it's still a [TS]

00:17:01   giant things blowing up buildings and [TS]

00:17:03   one of the things I liked about that the [TS]

00:17:05   action in winter soldier is it felt more [TS]

00:17:08   personal and more constrained like [TS]

00:17:10   hydrophobic there's a boat there is a [TS]

00:17:12   buzz literally a scene in an elevator [TS]

00:17:14   that there's a boat raid there's an [TS]

00:17:15   elevator fight there's a car chase and [TS]

00:17:18   there and even in the last the last [TS]

00:17:21   scene that's got that super crazy like [TS]

00:17:23   three helicarriers and crashing into [TS]

00:17:25   buildings in reality it's a showdown [TS]

00:17:27   between two men in an enclosed space its [TS]

00:17:29   that's and that's the action so I like I [TS]

00:17:32   thought they did a really great job with [TS]

00:17:33   that especially after some of the [TS]

00:17:35   previous movies it's like you know even [TS]

00:17:36   I you know I like iron man but it's like [TS]

00:17:38   I feel like every action shot and I [TS]

00:17:40   remain is like CGI are in man shooting [TS]

00:17:42   missiles at cgi you know other robots [TS]

00:17:45   right right and you need to be watching [TS]

00:17:46   it at like a hundred and fifty frames a [TS]

00:17:48   second but like it it it's a lot more [TS]

00:17:50   kinetic and a lot more exciting watching [TS]

00:17:52   Captain America punch somebody or [TS]

00:17:53   struggle with somebody I mean there were [TS]

00:17:55   multiple knives get home people kicking [TS]

00:17:57   each other it's different than just like [TS]

00:17:58   people like zapping each other and [TS]

00:18:00   shooting it [TS]

00:18:01   I like it's very physical it's very nice [TS]

00:18:03   role even that just the first scene [TS]

00:18:05   where he's running across the boat and [TS]

00:18:07   he's just knocking people down yet felt [TS]

00:18:08   me up a little video game ask but even [TS]

00:18:10   that was still kind of exciting in a way [TS]

00:18:12   where it's like I'm sure there's tons of [TS]

00:18:14   CGI in all the shots but they're not [TS]

00:18:15   100-percent cgi like many of the shots [TS]

00:18:17   at ironman you get the sense with a bow [TS]

00:18:19   trade that it's a he's almost like [TS]

00:18:21   challenging himself like how many people [TS]

00:18:23   can i take out before the parachute guys [TS]

00:18:24   get down here but i like the stuff with [TS]

00:18:26   the shield every time somebody get hit [TS]

00:18:28   with that she'll by actually having a [TS]

00:18:30   little bit oh wow that looks like it [TS]

00:18:32   hurts [TS]

00:18:33   I was way more violent than I thought it [TS]

00:18:34   was gonna be like he was tearing through [TS]

00:18:36   people on that boat and they were [TS]

00:18:38   breaking like it was it was pretty crazy [TS]

00:18:41   you thought you thought I was gonna hug [TS]

00:18:42   him no but I mean you know what I mean [TS]

00:18:44   like to get like like you said with the [TS]

00:18:47   death drunk they don't just pop it on [TS]

00:18:48   the head and fall down [TS]

00:18:50   yeah exactly that she looks like the [TS]

00:18:52   dental yeah Drake invention stuff it's [TS]

00:18:54   beautiful [TS]

00:18:55   the one thing I was gonna know is you [TS]

00:18:57   know and guys don't tell me to shut up [TS]

00:18:58   in a second but that was all very [TS]

00:18:59   Ultimates inspired that's Mark Miller [TS]

00:19:02   captain america from jumping out the [TS]

00:19:03   helicopter with no parachute being the [TS]

00:19:06   person of mass destruction taking out [TS]

00:19:07   the entire terrorist camp but i think [TS]

00:19:09   they stop themselves before they got [TS]

00:19:11   into the worst of the Millers let's [TS]

00:19:13   pause for a moment for a word from our [TS]

00:21:20   squarespace for supporting five-by-five [TS]

00:21:21   and the incomparable I wanted so let's [TS]

00:21:24   talk about the car chase i thought was [TS]

00:21:26   great car chase did this is you know I I [TS]

00:21:29   thought for a second [TS]

00:21:30   this movie is called captain america and [TS]

00:21:33   this huge car chase that's Nick Fury [TS]

00:21:35   it's like this suddenly the Nick Fury [TS]

00:21:36   movie comes in but it's i really enjoyed [TS]

00:21:39   this to that was a mainstream you know [TS]

00:21:43   big-budget superhero movie that manages [TS]

00:21:46   to make of exciting car chase through [TS]

00:21:49   the streets of Cleveland posing as [TS]

00:21:52   washington DC i think uh but I thought [TS]

00:21:55   that was great too and again not not [TS]

00:21:57   giant superhuman maybe cgi creatures [TS]

00:22:00   throwing huge objects but instead [TS]

00:22:03   something where I understand the physics [TS]

00:22:05   I kind of understood the geography and [TS]

00:22:07   then it also had the sense of humor [TS]

00:22:08   where Nick Furies cars talking to him [TS]

00:22:10   and telling him what's broken but the [TS]

00:22:12   air conditioning works and that was nice [TS]

00:22:14   because Nick Fury hasn't I mean he's [TS]

00:22:15   obviously has a lot of presence but he [TS]

00:22:17   doesn't have got to do a lot in all the [TS]

00:22:19   movies where he's been it right i mean [TS]

00:22:20   he he's freaking shows that places and [TS]

00:22:23   he you know sometimes you give stirring [TS]

00:22:24   speeches you know pep talks and whatnot [TS]

00:22:26   right yeah I gotta work yeah she knows [TS]

00:22:29   you know appears that the entire at the [TS]

00:22:31   end of the Avengers like he's not [TS]

00:22:32   running around shooting guys as this new [TS]

00:22:34   york swelling down [TS]

00:22:35   yeah it in the Avengers he pointed out [TS]

00:22:36   doors like check it out i got a rocket [TS]

00:22:38   launcher guys I'm gonna shoot this [TS]

00:22:40   rocket launcher and that's all I'm going [TS]

00:22:42   that's all i do now i got i got a [TS]

00:22:43   PowerPoint deck i gotta work on I gotta [TS]

00:22:45   get on the phone with these shadowy [TS]

00:22:47   figures and talking about new lot of [TS]

00:22:49   paperwork I can see it coming so here [TS]

00:22:51   he's doing yeah he's doing his thing and [TS]

00:22:53   and and the tension builds and and then [TS]

00:22:56   unfortunately the trailer gives a way [TS]

00:22:58   that is going to run a [TS]

00:22:59   into the winter soldier but even then I [TS]

00:23:01   know why didn't they just start with [TS]

00:23:03   that when you just shoot the thing that [TS]

00:23:04   catches the bottom of the carb load up [TS]

00:23:05   see you later there's a few blocks away [TS]

00:23:07   he just wasn't ready yet they had to be [TS]

00:23:09   a car chase Danner now sorry I don't [TS]

00:23:12   know why do I have this good it was good [TS]

00:23:13   car chase there's a there's am a flash [TS]

00:23:15   drive that is doesn't work like any [TS]

00:23:18   flash drive ever seen the MacGuffin [TS]

00:23:20   flash drive [TS]

00:23:21   yeah yeah that wasn't my favorite thing [TS]

00:23:23   it runs on shield OS chase and you [TS]

00:23:25   wouldn't understand you're right it's [TS]

00:23:26   true [TS]

00:23:26   they've got extra advanced technology [TS]

00:23:28   they're open source and so let's see [TS]

00:23:31   what other one other big action set [TS]

00:23:33   pieces are there's the bunker in in New [TS]

00:23:35   Jersey that I thought was pretty cool [TS]

00:23:38   the weather it's his old base and we get [TS]

00:23:41   the flashback to the first movie and [TS]

00:23:44   then go inside the bunker and i like [TS]

00:23:45   that not only was there a picture of [TS]

00:23:48   Peggy but there was a picture of Tommy [TS]

00:23:51   Lee Jones who had never started and oh [TS]

00:23:53   yes Howard Stark and they talk about a [TS]

00:23:55   young Howard Stark confusingly that was [TS]

00:23:56   no accident [TS]

00:23:57   uh and then they go downstairs and they [TS]

00:24:01   meet its like the hatch from lost theirs [TS]

00:24:04   in their seventies computers moving [TS]

00:24:07   around and Arnim Zola has digitized [TS]

00:24:09   himself [TS]

00:24:10   unfortunately digitized himself in the [TS]

00:24:12   seven days after to AP a great great [TS]

00:24:14   move [TS]

00:24:15   I'm not against that i'm not convinced [TS]

00:24:17   that he is gone [TS]

00:24:18   oh no I never come back yeah digital [TS]

00:24:20   they backed him up [TS]

00:24:21   yes on the cloud i would imagine that [TS]

00:24:23   that was just like the version that they [TS]

00:24:25   left down there and then he's also [TS]

00:24:27   floating around last year mi the am I [TS]

00:24:29   the only one on that still watching [TS]

00:24:32   agents of shield I know now I know what [TS]

00:24:34   I know I'm water [TS]

00:24:35   nevertheless for watching is no I'm all [TS]

00:24:37   I'm not like that it's got a better i'm [TS]

00:24:39   convinced Arnim Zola's the real [TS]

00:24:41   clairvoyant [TS]

00:24:41   yeah that would make a lot more setup [TS]

00:24:43   would make a lot more energy like that [TS]

00:24:45   payoff that will totally work if we get [TS]

00:24:47   that sometime in the next six episodes [TS]

00:24:49   probably get Tony Jones to do that Toby [TS]

00:24:51   Jones who's John so long they yeah it [TS]

00:24:54   made someone's guess that's me like on [TS]

00:24:56   the way back from the movie and I was [TS]

00:24:57   like it yeah yeah that makes a lot of [TS]

00:25:00   sense it does it does kind of take tick [TS]

00:25:02   all the boxes on that one and this movie [TS]

00:25:04   makes me even happier that the guy point [TS]

00:25:06   Arnim Zola also played karl rove so [TS]

00:25:08   happens the dream [TS]

00:25:09   Lauren doctor who I'm so god yes he is [TS]

00:25:12   so I let's talk about access since i'm [TS]

00:25:15   taking off the the the action scenes big [TS]

00:25:19   the big action scene at the end you know [TS]

00:25:21   there is a large-scale aspect to it like [TS]

00:25:22   iron man 3 right where it suddenly Oh [TS]

00:25:25   lots of people are doing lots of things [TS]

00:25:26   at once and their big vehicles moving [TS]

00:25:28   and lots of stuff is happening and yet I [TS]

00:25:31   felt like it really [TS]

00:25:32   they did a great job of having it makes [TS]

00:25:34   sense that they're sort of because [TS]

00:25:36   they've got lost I got the three [TS]

00:25:37   MacGuffins right so they got the three [TS]

00:25:39   chips that have to go into the three [TS]

00:25:40   things so they've got three different [TS]

00:25:42   missions for that and so it there's some [TS]

00:25:44   sort of clarity we see what you know we [TS]

00:25:46   see what the Falcon is doing and there's [TS]

00:25:48   some really nice like if you've got a [TS]

00:25:49   falcon backpack [TS]

00:25:51   you're way more maneuverable than a than [TS]

00:25:53   a fighter jet and then in the end it's a [TS]

00:25:56   it's a showdown between captain america [TS]

00:25:59   the winter soldier and it's meaningful [TS]

00:26:02   and yes there are explosions happening [TS]

00:26:03   all around but that showdown is really [TS]

00:26:05   small and meaningful in a good fight [TS]

00:26:07   scene 2 and and i really i really like [TS]

00:26:09   that seemed to that even though we got [TS]

00:26:11   the sense that this was a big stage the [TS]

00:26:14   most important stuff and actually the [TS]

00:26:16   stuff that's got the emotional resonance [TS]

00:26:17   is happening in a small enclosed space [TS]

00:26:20   where we can understand it [TS]

00:26:21   yeah two deaths cartridge yeah good [TS]

00:26:24   evening ladies can ya got a man's guy [TS]

00:26:27   wins he got it love it love it but let [TS]

00:26:29   me out an ad in education [TS]

00:26:31   let me ask a question how come in like [TS]

00:26:33   the 60 years that they've been like [TS]

00:26:34   freezing and unfreezing with your [TS]

00:26:36   soldier like nobody get my haircut [TS]

00:26:38   I'm just saying it seems like it gets in [TS]

00:26:40   his eyes he likes its style it makes up [TS]

00:26:43   it makes people scared of him he doesn't [TS]

00:26:44   even know how long is areas he wakes up [TS]

00:26:46   every time he's all groggy and [TS]

00:26:47   everything the Hydra guys do it for them [TS]

00:26:49   they will they really liked it there in [TS]

00:26:51   in in Hydra or Russia or where wherever [TS]

00:26:54   he yeah they love that stuff [TS]

00:26:56   I think it's great i think makes them [TS]

00:26:58   super spooky because I had a moment work [TS]

00:27:00   with during the unmasking I did hear [TS]

00:27:03   someone behind me gasps could not tell [TS]

00:27:05   if they were being a rock and I heard a [TS]

00:27:07   lot of people gasping okay but is what I [TS]

00:27:10   was in I was in this like super early [TS]

00:27:12   fan screening that like they did in a [TS]

00:27:15   few different cities like three weeks [TS]

00:27:16   ago and even among the superfans [TS]

00:27:19   you know in an audience with people [TS]

00:27:21   dressed up which doesn't generally [TS]

00:27:24   happen for the promo screenings there is [TS]

00:27:26   there's a surprising number of gasps but [TS]

00:27:28   then there is also that there was also a [TS]

00:27:31   lie i heard an audible reaction that [TS]

00:27:33   wasn't surprised but it was it was the [TS]

00:27:36   like they felt it hit them in the middle [TS]

00:27:38   of the chest the way that hit Steve the [TS]

00:27:40   moment he recognized it was and that [TS]

00:27:43   like that's what really paid off the [TS]

00:27:44   most for me was they could have they [TS]

00:27:46   didn't have to play it up as a secret [TS]

00:27:48   for as long as they did I think that the [TS]

00:27:49   emotional beat worked way better than [TS]

00:27:51   trying to play it as a big surprise and [TS]

00:27:53   it would be a surprise to some people [TS]

00:27:54   but ensure that's a lot less important [TS]

00:27:57   than it actually hitting hitting Steve [TS]

00:28:00   between the it's interesting because i [TS]

00:28:01   think the what I found fascinating [TS]

00:28:03   especially about the Marvel movies is [TS]

00:28:05   they've really for the most part tossed [TS]

00:28:07   out the device of the secret identity [TS]

00:28:10   you know starting with iron man the end [TS]

00:28:14   of the movie is I am ironman like they [TS]

00:28:17   don't really take the time like think [TS]

00:28:18   about the Avengers there's almost nobody [TS]

00:28:20   in the Avengers whose identity is a [TS]

00:28:22   secret anyway everybody knows who Steve [TS]

00:28:24   Rogers Sam you know Sam knows who he is [TS]

00:28:26   immediately right there is everybody [TS]

00:28:29   seeing them on TV at this point you know [TS]

00:28:31   defending Manhattan and all of that and [TS]

00:28:34   I kind of like that we haven't played [TS]

00:28:35   with it so it's interesting to get a [TS]

00:28:36   situation in which a plot [TS]

00:28:39   I mean need whether it be a plot point [TS]

00:28:40   an emotional point is actively like who [TS]

00:28:43   is this person [TS]

00:28:45   it sort of turns the idea on its head a [TS]

00:28:47   little bit from what we've seen so far [TS]

00:28:48   in the Marvel continuity that said I was [TS]

00:28:51   really just impress anybody could [TS]

00:28:52   recognize him with a really long hair [TS]

00:28:54   yeah yeah I i was noticing the [TS]

00:28:57   flashbacks mean like yeah you gotta [TS]

00:28:58   really pay off you got it you got it yet [TS]

00:29:00   get can't we talk to the same thing we [TS]

00:29:02   talked about earlier with the word [TS]

00:29:03   choices were saying like you gotta bring [TS]

00:29:05   up this relationship a little more and [TS]

00:29:06   solidified a little more for it to mean [TS]

00:29:08   something to the audience as opposed to [TS]

00:29:10   to Steve I felt like they had to put in [TS]

00:29:13   those earlier scenes or else all the [TS]

00:29:16   people who haven't seen captain america [TS]

00:29:17   in like three years since it came out [TS]

00:29:18   would be alright who's that who's this [TS]

00:29:21   and what's going on please note that guy [TS]

00:29:22   with which white guy with brown here was [TS]

00:29:25   he was either one of the torch or lifted [TS]

00:29:27   will shoot version of solar that fucking [TS]

00:29:30   but the winter soldier is dum-dum Dugan [TS]

00:29:34   that's right i'm shocked [TS]

00:29:37   Neil MacDonald needs work he's gonna [TS]

00:29:39   tell you how Great America is that they [TS]

00:29:40   didn't have when we work all through the [TS]

00:29:42   summer time and make a great Cadillacs [TS]

00:29:44   that's right I we should talk we [TS]

00:29:46   mentioned briefly the elevator scene i [TS]

00:29:48   thought the elevator scene was great and [TS]

00:29:49   in the trailer you see it's aftermath [TS]

00:29:51   but you don't see the actual thing and [TS]

00:29:53   and and also early on the movie is the [TS]

00:29:57   scene where they're riding down in the [TS]

00:29:58   elevator and I'm thinking to myself man [TS]

00:30:00   that's a really nice elevator and I [TS]

00:30:03   think and I think to myself why is this [TS]

00:30:05   elevator here and I think well they're [TS]

00:30:06   showing us go into the ground to the [TS]

00:30:08   sub-basement to see the that's why it's [TS]

00:30:10   in there and then he gets in the [TS]

00:30:11   elevator for that fight scene where the [TS]

00:30:12   guys keep which is a really nice piece [TS]

00:30:14   of work because the rain choreography [TS]

00:30:16   with them keep getting on [TS]

00:30:17   yeah and he's sort of putting it all [TS]

00:30:19   together yeah that you know it's really [TS]

00:30:21   really good at it even there Steve [TS]

00:30:23   Rogers right [TS]

00:30:24   he doesn't just start fighting them he [TS]

00:30:26   acknowledges what they're going to do [TS]

00:30:28   and give them an opportunity to get off [TS]

00:30:30   her and then they find it is a threat i [TS]

00:30:34   thought was a really well-done scene and [TS]

00:30:35   I like the elevator set up to its like [TS]

00:30:37   if you're gonna build you have a bunch [TS]

00:30:38   of good scenes in an elevator built a [TS]

00:30:40   really awesome giant elevator with a [TS]

00:30:42   great class background and they did that [TS]

00:30:43   like it was a real fight to like he [TS]

00:30:46   wasn't even just wiped the floor with [TS]

00:30:47   them [TS]

00:30:48   yeah well I'm getting hacked the pack so [TS]

00:30:50   many people has 10 against one or [TS]

00:30:52   whatever and they did have to tie one of [TS]

00:30:53   his hands behind his back yeah yeah but [TS]

00:30:56   it was good like it [TS]

00:30:57   I you know when I saw the setup I [TS]

00:31:00   thought it was just that would be it [TS]

00:31:01   right see what we saw in the thing yeah [TS]

00:31:03   you you know you just beat the crap out [TS]

00:31:05   of them but it actually it worked too [TS]

00:31:06   well again really visible and like super [TS]

00:31:10   tight cover a few I'd say that's the [TS]

00:31:12   best fight scene in the movie [TS]

00:31:13   I mean I like some of the stuff with [TS]

00:31:15   with Captain America and Bucky the like [TS]

00:31:17   that that one fight that Tony lu2 with [TS]

00:31:19   the knives work he keeps pulling knives [TS]

00:31:22   and everywhere I felt like that mean [TS]

00:31:23   that's a really good fight but it's like [TS]

00:31:25   I felt this one night something [TS]

00:31:27   interesting about the choreography and [TS]

00:31:28   the constraint i mean reminded be I mean [TS]

00:31:30   for the for those of using the original [TS]

00:31:32   old boy the scene in the hallway like it [TS]

00:31:35   had sort of a similar feel in terms of [TS]

00:31:37   like let's play with the you know the [TS]

00:31:40   this space like let's explain experience [TS]

00:31:42   but this space is gonna be like [TS]

00:31:43   happens if you have a fight in a [TS]

00:31:44   physical location rather than just like [TS]

00:31:46   sprawling all over the place [TS]

00:31:49   my sis just in the chat room that would [TS]

00:31:51   be really funny if like a somebody in [TS]

00:31:53   the elevator when Steve Rogers says [TS]

00:31:55   anybody want to get out is like I look I [TS]

00:31:57   just need to get done before the part [TS]

00:31:58   that really be out of place when a guy [TS]

00:32:00   with like the tray of baked goods or [TS]

00:32:03   something yeah I just I i got i mean the [TS]

00:32:06   pizza delivery guy is your friend Marty [TS]

00:32:08   on is what the guy in iron man 3 these [TS]

00:32:10   guys are so weird i hate working here [TS]

00:32:11   you recognize that guy i love that kind [TS]

00:32:14   of Daniel you're right that this is I [TS]

00:32:16   think you make a really good point that [TS]

00:32:18   the you know all the superheroes are [TS]

00:32:20   like iron man's got his armor any flies [TS]

00:32:23   he's got stuff the chutes and all that [TS]

00:32:24   and everybody's got their thing and [TS]

00:32:26   Captain America you know he fights good [TS]

00:32:28   he's a good fight guy and so that's what [TS]

00:32:30   it should be is is we should see him [TS]

00:32:33   being a good fighting guy in the [TS]

00:32:34   elevator [TS]

00:32:35   you know you and really smart too i [TS]

00:32:37   think the other one likes it but he's [TS]

00:32:39   there's no point being or writer using [TS]

00:32:42   energy blasts he's a good soldier he's [TS]

00:32:45   just yeah and i think that the part of [TS]

00:32:47   like the Avengers part which really [TS]

00:32:48   drills at home for me is the part where [TS]

00:32:50   you know when the team finally gets [TS]

00:32:51   together and and Tony Stark is saying [TS]

00:32:54   alright you know captain america and you [TS]

00:32:56   tell us what to do because you're the [TS]

00:32:58   only person here who's really trained in [TS]

00:33:00   any sort of like tactic right or [TS]

00:33:02   soldiering right everybody else is like [TS]

00:33:04   you've got some assassins and stuff like [TS]

00:33:06   that but you don't have really anybody [TS]

00:33:07   else who's used to working with a team [TS]

00:33:09   right which is the one thing that [TS]

00:33:10   Captain America has over all of them [TS]

00:33:12   which is that he worked with 18 [TS]

00:33:14   yeah well it's like what I'm saying the [TS]

00:33:16   other day leadership is kind of [TS]

00:33:17   superpower [TS]

00:33:18   yeah he can compel people to action [TS]

00:33:21   that's good I like that it's true and [TS]

00:33:24   then that's it that's always the [TS]

00:33:25   challenge with him is that he is the [TS]

00:33:27   symbol and he's a leader and you know [TS]

00:33:30   honestly that was that always made [TS]

00:33:32   shield kind of a weird fit right i mean [TS]

00:33:33   the first time he wakes up in the [TS]

00:33:34   present day he saw he's the ra she'll [TS]

00:33:36   Jason and its general mine its natural [TS]

00:33:39   he's inspired by him that synergy Jason [TS]

00:33:41   but he wakes up they're faking the past [TS]

00:33:44   right and so I I felt like there's [TS]

00:33:45   always this tension between him and [TS]

00:33:48   shield and Nick Fury because he you know [TS]

00:33:51   he's got his he's got his standards and [TS]

00:33:55   and [TS]

00:33:56   he's already he's a leader but he's not [TS]

00:33:58   the leader of this group and and that [TS]

00:34:00   was the natural tension that was there [TS]

00:34:02   so having can be kind of rebel and [TS]

00:34:03   having to run away from shield I worked [TS]

00:34:06   really well right because then he's in [TS]

00:34:08   charge [TS]

00:34:08   yeah and that final scene and fury [TS]

00:34:12   literally just tell him like looks like [TS]

00:34:14   you're calling the shots now cat [TS]

00:34:15   yeah we're giving me one looks like yeah [TS]

00:34:18   yeah exactly right i like that nobody [TS]

00:34:20   else like that was one of the [TS]

00:34:22   interesting follow things for agents of [TS]

00:34:23   shield for me was that even though you [TS]

00:34:26   know fury acknowledges like all right we [TS]

00:34:29   got it like yeah we gotta get rid of [TS]

00:34:30   everything right [TS]

00:34:31   nobody tells that to anybody she hoped [TS]

00:34:33   but they're also like going like alright [TS]

00:34:36   we can kind of salvage this whole Hydra [TS]

00:34:38   situation right little spin on it and [TS]

00:34:40   maybe we can just yet other than Marino [TS]

00:34:42   and Maria Hill clearly had her resume [TS]

00:34:44   ready to go right she's like I'm gonna [TS]

00:34:46   apply to that job at Stark Industries [TS]

00:34:47   now it in the movie Pepper Potts is way [TS]

00:34:50   better adjusted than any of these idiots [TS]

00:34:53   am i imagining things or what was there [TS]

00:34:55   not look at a time lapse after the fall [TS]

00:34:58   of hydrate the Triskelion in the movie [TS]

00:35:01   where I think I think the series is [TS]

00:35:03   catching up to where we end up at the [TS]

00:35:05   end of the yeah I think you're right i [TS]

00:35:07   mean you're sort of a dissolve like he [TS]

00:35:09   was picking up the pieces [TS]

00:35:10   a few months later I am black widow [TS]

00:35:13   Manning and i am here to wikileak [TS]

00:35:17   congress right that's right because it's [TS]

00:35:20   cuz she says I'm here to not tell you [TS]

00:35:23   anything so suck at Congress something I [TS]

00:35:25   really appreciate about that mechanic is [TS]

00:35:27   that I did not [TS]

00:35:28   throughout this movie like question [TS]

00:35:30   where are the other adventures why is [TS]

00:35:32   you know why isn't Captain America like [TS]

00:35:34   callin for help because because he is [TS]

00:35:36   cut off right he's cut off from shield [TS]

00:35:37   he doesn't trust where is like basically [TS]

00:35:40   like the second half of iron man 3 on my [TS]

00:35:42   flight isn't you know like he knows [TS]

00:35:44   these guys who are really good at stuff [TS]

00:35:46   maybe he should like call back up the [TS]

00:35:48   phone and call them and it's like you [TS]

00:35:50   know something I'm willing to believe [TS]

00:35:51   that captain america a feels he cannot [TS]

00:35:52   trust anyone and be probably doesn't [TS]

00:35:55   have an address book right you know he [TS]

00:35:56   doesn't have a smartphone oh yeah and an [TS]

00:35:58   iron is no pain lost it [TS]

00:36:00   yeah that last start start thinks he can [TS]

00:36:02   just handle it himself but like you know [TS]

00:36:04   like when he doesn't have his suit and [TS]

00:36:05   he's like walking through the snow it's [TS]

00:36:06   like you know what that's when you call [TS]

00:36:08   for you call for exact [TS]

00:36:09   right now I thought this also what [TS]

00:36:11   happened so fast right it's like yeah [TS]

00:36:12   this is all happening fast he's in [TS]

00:36:14   Washington it's all cut off he doesn't [TS]

00:36:15   know who to trust and and it just [TS]

00:36:17   happens too fast for them I i I've [TS]

00:36:18   talked to some people who have seen her [TS]

00:36:20   like just having the Avengers hanging [TS]

00:36:22   over them it's always an issue like I [TS]

00:36:24   don't know I never I never felt that [TS]

00:36:25   like I didn't iron man 3 that he he [TS]

00:36:27   really needed to call Tony Stark for [TS]

00:36:29   help and I get Tony's Tony Stark's had a [TS]

00:36:33   jerk he's not gonna you know you don't [TS]

00:36:35   even call for help you get it was like [TS]

00:36:37   we say I was your altar is like Captain [TS]

00:36:38   America is on the run from the only [TS]

00:36:41   thing that he knows in the world where [TS]

00:36:43   is his shield and he's he's now [TS]

00:36:44   completely cut off he's cut off from [TS]

00:36:46   time he's cut off from the one job he's [TS]

00:36:48   ever had and you know he doesn't have [TS]

00:36:51   access to the Avengers any more of the [TS]

00:36:53   other Avengers that he would contact I [TS]

00:36:55   mean Stark is the one who right at the [TS]

00:36:57   beginning Furies like yes stark improved [TS]

00:36:59   all of our engines and guns and now they [TS]

00:37:01   are super Kelly and they can kill a [TS]

00:37:03   million fellows in 12 seconds [TS]

00:37:06   I wouldn't call Bruce Banner either like [TS]

00:37:07   that just the fellow might be more [TS]

00:37:10   interesting are each monster in dallas [TS]

00:37:12   solve a lot more panel long distance [TS]

00:37:13   charges to Asgard are just you know [TS]

00:37:16   through the roof [TS]

00:37:17   you know on a on a veteran salary that's [TS]

00:37:20   you know [TS]

00:37:21   yeah i did find it was a little odd [TS]

00:37:23   though that for example shield wouldn't [TS]

00:37:24   call in iron Patriot because that's just [TS]

00:37:26   a cgi insert or you know Hawkeye my [TS]

00:37:28   ten-year-old godson salt with me and his [TS]

00:37:30   first question was where's Hawkeye [TS]

00:37:31   because he'd been well you use also who [TS]

00:37:34   knows if he was Hydra so here's here's [TS]

00:37:36   what I what I was thinking about both of [TS]

00:37:37   those is that if they had wanted to do [TS]

00:37:39   it [TS]

00:37:40   what they should have done is had like [TS]

00:37:41   iron patriot is off somewhere he's they [TS]

00:37:44   have conspired to make him off the [TS]

00:37:45   off-the-grid somewhere for Hawk I feel [TS]

00:37:47   Michael and I were talking about this [TS]

00:37:49   because he was complaining about the [TS]

00:37:50   Avengers not being in it and and I said [TS]

00:37:52   I imagine Hawkeye like getting off a [TS]

00:37:54   boat on a tropical island for his first [TS]

00:37:56   real vacation in a long time and as he [TS]

00:37:58   steps off the boat onto the shore [TS]

00:38:00   there's a thing that says you need to [TS]

00:38:01   get back something's happening is like [TS]

00:38:02   oh man [TS]

00:38:03   and that's it because it's gonna take [TS]

00:38:05   him another 12 hours sir 15 hours to get [TS]

00:38:07   back [TS]

00:38:08   see I imagine more mundane he's like in [TS]

00:38:09   his apartment and he's like building an [TS]

00:38:11   ikea couch [TS]

00:38:12   it's like stuck in boys Hawkeye could be [TS]

00:38:14   easy but all he busy dealing with those [TS]

00:38:16   little ok and then beyond this but ok [TS]

00:38:19   that's it he's trying to look at this [TS]

00:38:20   time you are it's very complicated [TS]

00:38:21   deleting shawarma you just can't [TS]

00:38:23   the place yeah I cannot see Jeremy [TS]

00:38:25   Renner as not the martin be calm [TS]

00:38:27   expression haha its kind of but I want [TS]

00:38:31   that movie so bad time for a quick break [TS]

00:38:51   soaked immediately gifted he's so [TS]

00:38:52   intelligent that you know you can't [TS]

00:38:54   contain his mind like a little box where [TS]

00:38:56   he's you know he came up [TS]

00:38:58   refill Riley right exactly and he came [TS]

00:39:00   up with with this character at a time [TS]

00:39:02   when that was still a big thing he made [TS]

00:39:05   it something far bigger and better than [TS]

00:39:07   I ever thought it would was going to be [TS]

00:39:09   I beyond is still getting tortured in [TS]

00:39:12   his tortured castle right right at the [TS]

00:39:15   dreadfort which we saw yeah it's in the [TS]

00:39:17   opening credits with a little flayed man [TS]

00:39:19   and everything that we didn't actually [TS]

00:39:20   go there I'm so happy to see that the [TS]

00:39:22   opening credits because i love the name [TS]

00:39:23   the dreadfort [TS]

00:39:25   yeah but it's also a lot of serious [TS]

00:39:27   marketing for those guys they're like a [TS]

00:39:29   we play people did you know that and a [TS]

00:39:30   dragon stone is in the opening credits [TS]

00:39:32   so we could rising status and his novels [TS]

00:39:36   under is closing the door a standard [TS]

00:39:39   action are minor action out some [TS]

00:39:41   interaction unless you want to like Oh [TS]

00:39:42   somehow market item wouldn't know how [TS]

00:39:47   but I'm going alright so i'm gonna i'm [TS]

00:39:49   interested amazingly powerful warlocks [TS]

00:39:52   lot or not using and honor the love the [TS]

00:39:56   word lock is literally your job name you [TS]

00:39:59   are a war block i make war on where I [TS]

00:40:02   don't know or you don't love that she's [TS]

00:40:05   not a lock [TS]

00:40:06   I so visit the incomparable dot-com to [TS]

00:40:09   learn more or go to iTunes and search [TS]

00:40:11   for incomparable master feed for a [TS]

00:40:14   master podcast feed with all of our [TS]

00:40:16   shows in it so a list of characters who [TS]

00:40:19   are in this movie because obviously even [TS]

00:40:21   though its captain america and we have [TS]

00:40:22   the winter soldier we have some other [TS]

00:40:24   characters we mentioned Black Widow so [TS]

00:40:27   there's your there's your Avengers time [TS]

00:40:28   right now and i thought i thought that [TS]

00:40:31   was a really great use of the character [TS]

00:40:32   that she is really the [TS]

00:40:34   the number two character in this movie [TS]

00:40:37   and i like how she's got a really i like [TS]

00:40:41   that relationship she's got captain [TS]

00:40:42   america where it's not a you know [TS]

00:40:45   there's sexual tension and you know [TS]

00:40:48   what's going to happen it's like she is [TS]

00:40:50   a pro he's a pro their co-workers and [TS]

00:40:52   she's kinda got you know she's looking [TS]

00:40:55   out for him and I trying to fix him up [TS]

00:40:57   with people yeah yeah yeah but I thought [TS]

00:40:59   she was coming I thought that was just a [TS]

00:41:00   good elaboration on on Scarlett [TS]

00:41:02   Johansson's character that from the [TS]

00:41:04   Avengers and and from yeah well let's [TS]

00:41:06   not talk about her and iron man two [TS]

00:41:07   because that wasn't so good but I I [TS]

00:41:09   liked I liked her I felt this movie made [TS]

00:41:12   her even more well-rounded I thought [TS]

00:41:14   that was a good a good use of black [TS]

00:41:16   widow [TS]

00:41:16   yeah i agree i think this is one of the [TS]

00:41:18   it's nice to have her not be there just [TS]

00:41:20   to be a loving trust right all right and [TS]

00:41:22   they definitely gave her own stuff more [TS]

00:41:24   cameo right right right i mean yeah i [TS]

00:41:28   agree with you that they have more they [TS]

00:41:29   have more of a co-worker sibling type [TS]

00:41:31   relationship than anything else here and [TS]

00:41:33   it works because it's you know [TS]

00:41:35   especially when we get to the point [TS]

00:41:36   where he needs somebody he can trust you [TS]

00:41:39   know and even that even then I like [TS]

00:41:41   spent like you know part of the movie [TS]

00:41:42   wondering like oh man they're not just [TS]

00:41:44   gonna have her flip on him at the end [TS]

00:41:45   right like that was originally said [TS]

00:41:47   that's her client she's an LG I mean [TS]

00:41:49   she's an assassin [TS]

00:41:50   yeah but she's got a heart of gold and [TS]

00:41:52   turns out the only major he should you [TS]

00:41:55   definitely i'll lead superhero character [TS]

00:41:58   Marvel has at the moment [TS]

00:41:59   yeah yes I am glad that I'm glad they [TS]

00:42:02   put her to use that I think that balance [TS]

00:42:03   balance the movie out nicely to have her [TS]

00:42:05   working with Captain America let's talk [TS]

00:42:09   about the Falcon I thought the Falcon [TS]

00:42:10   was great [TS]

00:42:11   yeah I really like him Anthony Mackie is [TS]

00:42:13   fantastic actor [TS]

00:42:15   yeah and we we see that relationship [TS]

00:42:17   from the beginning I liked how they I [TS]

00:42:19   like how they visualize the Falcon with [TS]

00:42:20   his backpack with the with a jet wings [TS]

00:42:22   and stuff like the way he moved didn't [TS]

00:42:24   feel like super Shaky's shaky cgi it [TS]

00:42:27   felt like you know we got a backpack [TS]

00:42:29   with the jets on it i guess i would like [TS]

00:42:31   to see more interactively I felt like [TS]

00:42:33   they were setting up for him to be more [TS]

00:42:34   of a person and then we didn't really [TS]

00:42:36   get as much of a payoff and it's hard [TS]

00:42:37   because they're kinda trying to pair [TS]

00:42:39   captain america with black widow is kind [TS]

00:42:41   of you know buddy coworker and then [TS]

00:42:43   Falcons there and so it's a little [TS]

00:42:45   crowded a lot of it they get a lot of it [TS]

00:42:47   up front [TS]

00:42:47   and so right because they're the better [TS]

00:42:49   the veterans and this weekend a lot up [TS]

00:42:51   with you know he's he's been on your [TS]

00:42:52   left-right for really can be seen at the [TS]

00:42:54   very beginning where he's passing them [TS]

00:42:55   over and over again while they're [TS]

00:42:56   running around the reflecting pool and [TS]

00:42:58   then he visits him at the VA and that so [TS]

00:43:01   I felt like they did that ground work [TS]

00:43:03   early so when the time comes I found [TS]

00:43:05   that a little tricky double to one thing [TS]

00:43:08   I kind of struggled a little bit is like [TS]

00:43:09   I mean theoretically has this work at [TS]

00:43:11   the VA that seems important but like [TS]

00:43:13   Captain America's like I need your help [TS]

00:43:15   to take down the government now he's [TS]

00:43:16   like i'm free i don't have a job I don't [TS]

00:43:18   know the family I don't have I don't [TS]

00:43:21   even have a befitting your valuable [TS]

00:43:23   everybody how's everybody knows he knows [TS]

00:43:25   and shield and then there's this guy who [TS]

00:43:28   you know I just get the sense that he [TS]

00:43:30   doesn't have that many friends and this [TS]

00:43:31   guy he trusts because they're soldiers [TS]

00:43:33   and they kind of bonded they're jogging [TS]

00:43:35   buddies he went he's looking out to him [TS]

00:43:37   and he has he literally has nowhere else [TS]

00:43:39   to turn [TS]

00:43:40   plus he's gonna be the Falcon Captain [TS]

00:43:42   America calls you to serve you serve [TS]

00:43:44   I just you might need to make a call [TS]

00:43:46   first right no I was explained to my [TS]

00:43:49   wife afterward how awesome it is [TS]

00:43:51   she's like so the Falcon did they work [TS]

00:43:52   together in the comics I'm like oh my [TS]

00:43:53   god in the seventies they like me they [TS]

00:43:55   like made the comic captain america and [TS]

00:43:58   the Falcon it was the and it was gonna [TS]

00:44:00   was also Marvel his costume was a little [TS]

00:44:02   different yeah my magic tiara it was but [TS]

00:44:05   the idea that they are they also did [TS]

00:44:06   that was when Marvel was realizing that [TS]

00:44:08   the other superheroes were white and [TS]

00:44:10   they're like you know we need to do [TS]

00:44:11   something about this and so to take that [TS]

00:44:13   classic pairing and and put it in the [TS]

00:44:16   movie and I I thought it was really fun [TS]

00:44:17   i thought i thought he worked and of [TS]

00:44:19   course at the end like blow up his [TS]

00:44:20   backpack [TS]

00:44:21   he's like well I'm grounded sorry origin [TS]

00:44:24   they gave him the Falcon i think was a [TS]

00:44:25   great shorthand almost as good as you [TS]

00:44:27   just casting downey junior Ironman the [TS]

00:44:29   origin that gave to the Falcon just let [TS]

00:44:30   you put them right into all the action [TS]

00:44:32   yeah well I wish it was great i noticed [TS]

00:44:33   too i wasn't thinking about it but when [TS]

00:44:35   we may be said you know my my buddy got [TS]

00:44:38   shot down all that I was like you know [TS]

00:44:40   they're not really mentioning the plane [TS]

00:44:42   they're just implying flight and that [TS]

00:44:43   was a really great I like that a lot [TS]

00:44:45   where it's like it never sent a plane at [TS]

00:44:48   the end and that it's you know he is [TS]

00:44:50   this is what he did in the military so [TS]

00:44:51   it's not only let him bring it home and [TS]

00:44:53   so his origin story will know right they [TS]

00:44:55   had steel and they they didn't let him [TS]

00:44:57   forget [TS]

00:44:57   but that was his origin story is I was a [TS]

00:44:59   soldier they taught me how to fly this [TS]

00:45:01   crazy contraption and I've semifluid web [TS]

00:45:03   and it also explains why you know as [TS]

00:45:05   good as it would be to have just like [TS]

00:45:07   any other soldier on your side you know [TS]

00:45:09   in order to keep up with Captain America [TS]

00:45:11   you do need a certain like you need to [TS]

00:45:12   be like an elite soldier right i did [TS]

00:45:15   like the fight between the Falcon and [TS]

00:45:16   winter soldier is usually just gets his [TS]

00:45:19   ass kicked like brutally like hold his [TS]

00:45:21   own a little bit but it's it's [TS]

00:45:23   over-the-top not like them taken out [TS]

00:45:25   like when the winter soldier just steals [TS]

00:45:26   his steering wheel [TS]

00:45:27   yeah that didn't know about it up right [TS]

00:45:30   so there's that excuse me like a car [TS]

00:45:32   chase [TS]

00:45:33   that's really good and then there's the [TS]

00:45:35   that kind of overpass urban combat kind [TS]

00:45:39   of kinda like the winter soldier has a [TS]

00:45:40   bunch of guys that basically just [TS]

00:45:42   provide covering fire and then hand [TS]

00:45:43   they're going to the winter soldier is [TS]

00:45:45   like that those guys Tony goes with like [TS]

00:45:47   the background singers of weaponry [TS]

00:45:51   yeah okay they're like there to provide [TS]

00:45:53   you know a little a little flair and [TS]

00:45:56   then showcase the main star right like [TS]

00:45:59   where the winter soldier doesn't carry [TS]

00:46:00   his own guns he carries his own knives [TS]

00:46:02   but guns that's you know he's got it [TS]

00:46:03   he's got people for their yeah takes [TS]

00:46:05   them where we're here we know where you [TS]

00:46:07   can get them that's all he's like that [TS]

00:46:09   he's superstitious like that [TS]

00:46:12   what about Nick Fury how well you will [TS]

00:46:15   have more to say about your eyes and [TS]

00:46:17   hearing wasn't actually dead [TS]

00:46:19   I kept waiting for the little tell that [TS]

00:46:21   was gonna make me realize he wasn't [TS]

00:46:22   actually dead and when it did when I [TS]

00:46:24   didn't get one I was like wow maybe you [TS]

00:46:26   know Sam Jackson has been a lot of [TS]

00:46:27   movies maybe this is out there no [TS]

00:46:29   comment workout can't kill anybody [TS]

00:46:31   yeah that's not maybe I it was going to [TS]

00:46:34   be looking lmd in a catch apartment [TS]

00:46:36   yeah I great with the life model decoy [TS]

00:46:38   thing as well i wasn't sure i think you [TS]

00:46:40   should consider surgery to obscure [TS]

00:46:42   especially at this point with what [TS]

00:46:44   they've done with Coulson it's like no [TS]

00:46:46   no one has ever done know every year [TS]

00:46:48   no I like that there was a there was a a [TS]

00:46:50   hint between again agents of shield and [TS]

00:46:52   the movie with the thing that Samuel [TS]

00:46:54   Jackson uses like his way out of the car [TS]

00:46:56   i think that what they call it muscle [TS]

00:46:58   they call the mouse hole in the changes [TS]

00:47:00   you know episode and with that and fury [TS]

00:47:02   really nice scene where were cap find [TS]

00:47:05   them in the apartment he's like in the [TS]

00:47:06   shadows and he's hiding and [TS]

00:47:08   he gets shot and all that but that's [TS]

00:47:10   nice i like that because that is that is [TS]

00:47:12   your seven-day spy movie scene 2 [TS]

00:47:15   right right just like I brought you this [TS]

00:47:17   information and you know don't trust [TS]

00:47:19   don't trust anybody that he died right [TS]

00:47:21   it's like I journey I did not see that [TS]

00:47:24   coming out there this shit was kind of [TS]

00:47:25   brutal because it's like right in the [TS]

00:47:27   middle of a sentence on what [TS]

00:47:28   yeah it's also when you can catch [TS]

00:47:30   apartment you feel probably safe but [TS]

00:47:33   guess not that record players not gonna [TS]

00:47:35   protected like the thing with the whole [TS]

00:47:36   like you know that everything's bugged [TS]

00:47:38   and then Bryan Pierce tries to play that [TS]

00:47:41   like off by pointing out that you know [TS]

00:47:43   was furious that was different yeah I [TS]

00:47:44   said was true but you know again I got [TS]

00:47:48   it in a comment on the robert redford [TS]

00:47:50   casting because he's one of the few [TS]

00:47:52   people who know you can't believe would [TS]

00:47:54   be able to give make sure your didn't L [TS]

00:47:57   tell Sam Jackson want to do an interview [TS]

00:47:58   he would do it you know they have a good [TS]

00:48:01   dynamic who I like the fact i like that [TS]

00:48:03   whole story about Bogota about you know [TS]

00:48:05   fury going in [TS]

00:48:07   despite like against orders and that's [TS]

00:48:08   how he gets promoted to director [TS]

00:48:10   basically I mean it's interesting [TS]

00:48:12   because it has that whole double sided [TS]

00:48:13   thing where it's like a proved his worth [TS]

00:48:14   in the same time it's like kind of using [TS]

00:48:17   him as a puppet you know the casting [TS]

00:48:19   Redford I mean just the first off he [TS]

00:48:21   bring Robert toss me brings the gravitas [TS]

00:48:24   he's great shorthand I mean because [TS]

00:48:26   everybody ready you know recognizes him [TS]

00:48:28   and he did a great job he he did not i [TS]

00:48:30   was actually a little afraid that it was [TS]

00:48:32   gonna be one of those things it's likely [TS]

00:48:34   well sleep well it's kind of [TS]

00:48:35   embarrassing Robert Redford was no [TS]

00:48:37   marvel comics movie late in his career [TS]

00:48:38   and we don't really speak events like [TS]

00:48:40   you know he's really great [TS]

00:48:42   I don't even really bad he dies at the [TS]

00:48:44   end because I thought he was really [TS]

00:48:45   great he makes he makes the shooting [TS]

00:48:47   that housekeeper totally brutal [TS]

00:48:49   yes oh yeah like that about that likely [TS]

00:48:52   run apartment gray area and then right [TS]

00:48:54   up till that point you're like nope he's [TS]

00:48:56   a bad guy like it that you had to do it [TS]

00:48:58   because he's too sympathetic when it [TS]

00:49:01   when the housekeeper had those like [TS]

00:49:02   off-camera lines of like she's gonna get [TS]

00:49:04   can I was like the winter soldier is [TS]

00:49:05   gonna kill killer and then Robert [TS]

00:49:07   Redford's gonna be angry that's like now [TS]

00:49:09   we have to like you know cover up this [TS]

00:49:10   and it's like not revered that whatever [TS]

00:49:12   cologne housekeeper [TS]

00:49:14   lucky you there's that knife's edge [TS]

00:49:17   moment where he walks in and sees the [TS]

00:49:19   winter soldier and [TS]

00:49:20   you're sitting there would be like the [TS]

00:49:22   that brief moment well alright is the [TS]

00:49:24   guy there to kill him or is he a bad guy [TS]

00:49:27   yeah and for me I was like as can't [TS]

00:49:29   either because I didn't want him to be a [TS]

00:49:30   bad guy you know I wanted this product [TS]

00:49:32   and never trust a three-piece suit never [TS]

00:49:34   huh [TS]

00:49:35   ironically there's nobody to clean up [TS]

00:49:37   after the dead body of the plane left he [TS]

00:49:41   tires a new clean it's their first time [TS]

00:49:43   guys had carry all the way to children's [TS]

00:49:44   guns just take care of that kind of mop [TS]

00:49:47   it up and it's fine that mandroids for [TS]

00:49:49   that we got agent 13 got a little bit of [TS]

00:49:51   her she's great [TS]

00:49:53   Sharon Carter yeah they have her have [TS]

00:49:55   her across that so so in the comics at [TS]

00:49:57   least and and that's the implication [TS]

00:49:58   she's the niece of Peggy Carter right [TS]

00:50:02   and and speaking of having listening [TS]

00:50:06   devices in the in the apartment they [TS]

00:50:08   also planted a SHIELD agent across the [TS]

00:50:10   hall as the girl next to her so I think [TS]

00:50:13   we'll be seeing her again and emily [TS]

00:50:15   vancamp who is I think currently on [TS]

00:50:17   revenge [TS]

00:50:18   yeah but it doesn't add ice machine was [TS]

00:50:20   on that everybody was great on that show [TS]

00:50:22   I still always think of her as Amy [TS]

00:50:23   Abbott but yeah she's great in this too [TS]

00:50:24   and she just have that girl nextdoor [TS]

00:50:26   quality and then I really like it when [TS]

00:50:27   she's in the day that moment with its [TS]

00:50:29   the scene of cameos word and booty from [TS]

00:50:32   community and who else is in there god [TS]

00:50:35   there's there's a bunch of the people [TS]

00:50:38   who you recognize who you you kind of [TS]

00:50:39   get the feeling like I'm being a Marvel [TS]

00:50:42   movie make it's like yeah we got one day [TS]

00:50:44   we're gonna shoot this scene in the [TS]

00:50:46   control room and you can all be in it [TS]

00:50:47   but but she's in there and that's great [TS]

00:50:49   because it's the the people that shield [TS]

00:50:51   standing up and saying you know we're [TS]

00:50:52   going to fight back against hide rod and [TS]

00:50:54   she has a little heroism that's the most [TS]

00:50:56   confusing things like that is everyone's [TS]

00:50:58   pointing guns at each other like who's [TS]

00:50:59   on whose side you don't know nobody a [TS]

00:51:02   little unclear how did the Hydra people [TS]

00:51:04   know who else is hydroxy they had Sandra [TS]

00:51:06   handshakes yeah come on Tony will get [TS]

00:51:09   with did that is everyone shake hands [TS]

00:51:11   every day I get my hamburger handshakes [TS]

00:51:13   but you know hydrilla peloponnese for [TS]

00:51:15   everybody they all have the lowell [TS]

00:51:16   nobody looked at the lapel pin actually [TS]

00:51:18   what you do is you just shout hail Hydra [TS]

00:51:20   know like that one that was a good i [TS]

00:51:22   like the scene agents of shield was like [TS]

00:51:23   I know some of your Hydra so like shoot [TS]

00:51:26   the other night and it will turn so you [TS]

00:51:28   get yeah so just like do this now and [TS]

00:51:30   like hopefully you know i mean at least [TS]

00:51:31   they'll be one high [TS]

00:51:33   the guy left even if Hydra guys to each [TS]

00:51:34   other right it's like that works but it [TS]

00:51:37   seemed like it seemed like everyone in [TS]

00:51:38   that control room knew who was on the [TS]

00:51:39   other team somehow I i have to have to [TS]

00:51:42   buy have to brag my college roommate I [TS]

00:51:44   the the guy that is there you know [TS]

00:51:47   quote-unquote bringing Coulson is a [TS]

00:51:48   prisoner the guys like other bringing [TS]

00:51:50   Coulson right here that those my college [TS]

00:51:52   roommate and he gets decked by Bill [TS]

00:51:54   Paxton and that is officially the [TS]

00:51:55   coolest thing that friends got to do in [TS]

00:51:57   a Marvel movie or TV show I'm gonna [TS]

00:51:59   argue that this is the best Stanley [TS]

00:52:01   cameo ever [TS]

00:52:03   yeah yes that was I've far [TS]

00:52:06   well deployed which is which is that [TS]

00:52:08   time I'm so gonna get fired because [TS]

00:52:11   Captain America steals his old outfit I [TS]

00:52:13   thought I like you I like the symbolism [TS]

00:52:15   of stealing the outfit that's a yes [TS]

00:52:17   it also if you look in the first scene [TS]

00:52:19   in the Smithsonian joss whedon is coming [TS]

00:52:22   down the escalator yeah so I saw yeah I [TS]

00:52:23   when I saw that I weren't happening [TS]

00:52:25   architecture because he's cut its kind [TS]

00:52:27   of fuzzy you can't quite tell but I was [TS]

00:52:29   pretty sure it was totally Joss Whedon's [TS]

00:52:30   got to be and it was not an object from [TS]

00:52:33   community works at shield although it [TS]

00:52:35   wasn't dumb person i did like the [TS]

00:52:37   callback on Samuel Jackson's tombstone a [TS]

00:52:39   lot [TS]

00:52:40   oh yeah you're 25 seconds yeah right [TS]

00:52:42   from pulp fiction but I I'm glad it was [TS]

00:52:45   that and not a quote from like the [TS]

00:52:47   prequels happy I I i really liked that [TS]

00:52:52   that one of the 2i guess attending [TS]

00:52:55   scientists to the winter soldier was at [TS]

00:52:57   Brubaker the creator of the character [TS]

00:52:59   and the writer of the whole winter [TS]

00:53:00   stories winter soldier storyline from [TS]

00:53:03   the comics i think one of the other ones [TS]

00:53:04   was the screenwriter for the movie too [TS]

00:53:06   yeah we have two horned everybody in [TS]

00:53:09   there like all right everybody get a [TS]

00:53:10   roll today everybody working here is a [TS]

00:53:11   light code [TS]

00:53:12   yeah it will marvel they do that but [TS]

00:53:14   just rozinsky who I think it's some [TS]

00:53:16   polish on the door screenplay and wrote [TS]

00:53:18   several issues of Thor is the farmer who [TS]

00:53:20   finds the hammer in right right and Thor [TS]

00:53:23   so you know they they like to drop in [TS]

00:53:25   there they're writers and other other [TS]

00:53:27   people it was nice the Brubaker got in [TS]

00:53:29   there because i mean this is this is the [TS]

00:53:30   fastest turnaround from a bit of [TS]

00:53:33   intellectual property made by Marvel [TS]

00:53:35   comic to being on the screen because [TS]

00:53:36   winter soldier that story was what five [TS]

00:53:38   years ago maybe once asked it yeah it [TS]

00:53:41   like the turnaround on it was super [TS]

00:53:42   super fast and i was at San Diego the [TS]

00:53:45   year that [TS]

00:53:45   announced this and I was standing in [TS]

00:53:48   hall h and I was tweeting it at Brubaker [TS]

00:53:50   and he was like this is news to me but [TS]

00:53:53   this is awesome that like he had no idea [TS]

00:53:57   whatsoever and it like it took him [TS]

00:53:58   completely back [TS]

00:54:00   that's great that's awesome speaking of [TS]

00:54:02   other characters i thought it was nice [TS]

00:54:03   that Maria Hill got some stuff to do [TS]

00:54:05   yeah cobie smulders good for her and [TS]

00:54:08   she'll be she's unemployed now yeah i [TS]

00:54:10   would actually be great if they if they [TS]

00:54:12   if they had her at least recur on agents [TS]

00:54:14   of shield next season now that she's [TS]

00:54:16   sprung from how i met your mother i just [TS]

00:54:18   really like that scene in the van when [TS]

00:54:19   like you know when they've got them all [TS]

00:54:21   walked out the end she shoots the other [TS]

00:54:23   or stuns the other guys and you know in [TS]

00:54:25   the back of the truck [TS]

00:54:27   it was nice to have her like usually [TS]

00:54:29   also the scene i thought that was the [TS]

00:54:30   best with her was when she's in the [TS]

00:54:31   control room she started running [TS]

00:54:32   everything she sees the two guys coming [TS]

00:54:34   in she's sort of rolls back in her chair [TS]

00:54:35   is like bam bam [TS]

00:54:37   all right back to work yeah she's [TS]

00:54:39   totally being a badass and she knows [TS]

00:54:40   what to do she's I mean it that's why [TS]

00:54:41   should hurry relies on her and it was [TS]

00:54:44   nice to see her do that i mean this [TS]

00:54:46   comes back to this being a shield movie [TS]

00:54:47   as much as it is a captain america right [TS]

00:54:49   right what else what else have we talked [TS]

00:54:52   about i mean i wanted to mention just [TS]

00:54:54   that this feels more than a lot of these [TS]

00:54:56   other Marvel movies this feels like I [TS]

00:54:58   think this is almost like an and a new [TS]

00:55:00   kind of genre because this is an [TS]

00:55:04   installment in an ongoing story line and [TS]

00:55:07   it feels like it more and is not in a [TS]

00:55:09   bad way but it's like this movie is [TS]

00:55:12   enhanced by the fact that you have this [TS]

00:55:13   whole supporting cast who we've seen [TS]

00:55:15   before and we know we're going to see [TS]

00:55:17   again the whole shield stuff and I but [TS]

00:55:20   it's kind of funny right knee doesn't [TS]

00:55:22   captain america was a movie that had a [TS]

00:55:24   tag that tied into the Avengers captain [TS]

00:55:26   america the winter soldier is a movie [TS]

00:55:29   about all of the stuff that happens with [TS]

00:55:31   these people after the Avengers is over [TS]

00:55:33   it's just a really different kind of [TS]

00:55:35   feeling well you know makes me wonder [TS]

00:55:37   given the ending like and with them like [TS]

00:55:39   art we're off to like deal with some of [TS]

00:55:40   the sweep up sort of the what's left [TS]

00:55:43   like how they're gonna pull cap back in [TS]

00:55:45   for the second avengers movie where like [TS]

00:55:47   I yeah we know you're busy cleaning up [TS]

00:55:50   the mess that she left but we got this [TS]

00:55:52   of thing we really need you to deal with [TS]

00:55:53   no I didn't call you for the Mandarin [TS]

00:55:55   but i kinda need your help for all [TS]

00:55:57   yeah it's it's an interesting spread [TS]

00:56:00   where Furies headed to Eastern Europe [TS]

00:56:02   the there's there's something said in [TS]

00:56:07   the shield show about like the like [TS]

00:56:10   African strongholds and we know that [TS]

00:56:12   Avengers 2 is shooting partially in [TS]

00:56:14   Africa and in loads of other places all [TS]

00:56:16   over the world the only movie we've got [TS]

00:56:19   in between now and Avengers 2 is [TS]

00:56:22   guardians of the galaxy and find out [TS]

00:56:25   there so yeah you know it always out [TS]

00:56:28   there yeah [TS]

00:56:29   one might say 10 minutes and uh and mid [TS]

00:56:32   credit sequence is directed by joss [TS]

00:56:35   whedon and is is with the characters and [TS]

00:56:38   eventually the Baron and Baroness phone [TS]

00:56:40   struggle and then and it's got Witch and [TS]

00:56:43   Quicksilver who were gonna be in [TS]

00:56:44   Avengers 2 so you know that is that you [TS]

00:56:47   know that's the setup for Avengers 2 [TS]

00:56:49   clearly all followed by the post-credits [TS]

00:56:52   scene which is the setup clearly for the [TS]

00:56:54   next Captain America movie he right just [TS]

00:56:56   to keep it going entirely yet sure you [TS]

00:57:00   know course anybody else anybody else [TS]

00:57:02   will feel like they would prefer they [TS]

00:57:04   switch the order of the yes ages yeah [TS]

00:57:06   it's like one main course I didn't yeah [TS]

00:57:08   they wanted the Avengers leading for the [TS]

00:57:09   people who were going to leave [TS]

00:57:11   basically what you want to close the [TS]

00:57:12   book on that story and then have a [TS]

00:57:14   little thing at the end your identity [TS]

00:57:15   flipped him out for for marketing right [TS]

00:57:17   i mean it really was like an Avengers [TS]

00:57:19   good i guess he did well at least at [TS]

00:57:22   least it's not Clark Gregg saying sir we [TS]

00:57:24   found it [TS]

00:57:25   close-up of a hammer I don't know that [TS]

00:57:28   they've gotten that more elaborate with [TS]

00:57:30   their their credit sequences now did [TS]

00:57:32   anyone else laughs about the part where [TS]

00:57:34   nick fury has to like take his eye patch [TS]

00:57:36   off for the retinal scan because I was [TS]

00:57:38   like wait [TS]

00:57:39   okay so explain the myth explain the [TS]

00:57:41   logistics of this to me he scanned his [TS]

00:57:43   own other I in and they just like didn't [TS]

00:57:46   catch that one that wasn't there some [TS]

00:57:48   identity management database that's just [TS]

00:57:50   back it needs to be to rehire side well [TS]

00:57:53   it's like what he had the file that he [TS]

00:57:54   couldn't open that was locked by him and [TS]

00:57:56   I think the I think the answer is just [TS]

00:57:58   say it's a marginal party under the mat [TS]

00:58:00   heartbleed guys its consumers can see [TS]

00:58:03   computers are just moved here early [TS]

00:58:05   actually that was the moment there was a [TS]

00:58:06   moment early on this mirror is like [TS]

00:58:07   really are we going to do this stupid [TS]

00:58:08   computer hacking [TS]

00:58:09   like come on gonna be a better MacGuffin [TS]

00:58:13   and because you're I was just waiting [TS]

00:58:14   for fury to say this is a unix system [TS]

00:58:16   right now and then apple store Jason was [TS]

00:58:19   all the apple stores that apple store [TS]

00:58:21   scene is kind of hilarious though [TS]

00:58:23   yeah yeah we should talk about the Apple [TS]

00:58:25   product place but before we go so it's [TS]

00:58:27   it's like hey we're not were in an apple [TS]

00:58:29   store they can find us in seven minutes [TS]

00:58:32   from this apple store first off its a [TS]

00:58:34   flash drive [TS]

00:58:35   couldn't you like turn off your [TS]

00:58:37   networking and see what's on it for guys [TS]

00:58:40   like the NSA come on shield shields all [TS]

00:58:43   in the cloud this is actually a [TS]

00:58:44   crippling problem it's a commentary [TS]

00:58:47   really about how we have become [TS]

00:58:49   completely dependent on the cloud and [TS]

00:58:51   and if the cloud is friend by Hydra it's [TS]

00:58:54   very bad although it did provide that [TS]

00:58:56   interesting see you know seeing where [TS]

00:58:57   they have to make out to avoid being [TS]

00:58:59   detected and I do I did love the you [TS]

00:59:02   know the the Black Widow making fun of [TS]

00:59:05   him for being like this is your first [TS]

00:59:07   since nineteen forties maybe Steve [TS]

00:59:10   Rogers such a schmuck in another [TS]

00:59:13   relationship that would be a you know oh [TS]

00:59:16   look at their chemistry and this one [TS]

00:59:18   it's about embarrassing Steve that's [TS]

00:59:20   what it's about [TS]

00:59:21   hilarious yeah so before we go I want to [TS]

00:59:24   just do the official uh how we feel [TS]

00:59:27   overall did we enjoy it we like it but [TS]

00:59:30   it's just because we haven't done that [TS]

00:59:31   yet Dan you liked this movie [TS]

00:59:33   yeah it's a big fan of it i really [TS]

00:59:34   enjoyed it was funny it was great action [TS]

00:59:37   and I thought in some ways it held up [TS]

00:59:39   better than the first one as much loved [TS]

00:59:41   the first one [TS]

00:59:41   the big problem of the first one was [TS]

00:59:42   always for me the ending which felt like [TS]

00:59:44   it was like let's just leave this setup [TS]

00:59:46   and this one kinda does that but since [TS]

00:59:48   we've had that sort of like rested and [TS]

00:59:51   already I feel like it works for me like [TS]

00:59:52   now there's like it's like a continuing [TS]

00:59:54   cereal kind of thing so I liked it a lot [TS]

00:59:56   as big fan [TS]

00:59:57   alright is what's your verdict [TS]

00:59:57   alright is what's your verdict [TS]

01:00:00   I love it it's definitely at the very [TS]

01:00:03   least one of my top three favorite of [TS]

01:00:05   the Marvel movies so far if not maybe [TS]

01:00:07   maybe one of the top two for me it just [TS]

01:00:10   it plays great it plays great on its own [TS]

01:00:12   it plays great as part of this big [TS]

01:00:14   overall serialize story that you're [TS]

01:00:16   telling but it doesn't have the pitfalls [TS]

01:00:18   of iron man 2 where it is shackled to [TS]

01:00:20   and now we will introduce puzzle piece [TS]

01:00:23   separate yep [TS]

01:00:25   Tony what's your verdict i loved it i [TS]

01:00:28   mean i think captain america is great [TS]

01:00:29   and I really like him more than some of [TS]

01:00:31   the other Avengers on this may be my [TS]

01:00:34   favorite you know of right below [TS]

01:00:36   Avengers you know just waiting on that [TS]

01:00:39   Hawkeye movie any data [TS]

01:00:40   yeah sure anytime guy what do you think [TS]

01:00:43   so i'm not a cat fan really considered [TS]

01:00:47   the characters just seems kind of [TS]

01:00:48   Canadian you have haha but he's like [TS]

01:00:52   Superman right is problematic to write [TS]

01:00:54   for i'm with you i think he's a [TS]

01:00:56   problematic character in the comics that [TS]

01:00:58   they they struggle sometimes to figure [TS]

01:01:00   out what the heck to do with him [TS]

01:01:01   yeah but I'm Christmas cats and yeah i [TS]

01:01:04   think it's great had there's the first [TS]

01:01:05   movie really surprised me how much you [TS]

01:01:07   liked it [TS]

01:01:07   remember when I was the human torch [TS]

01:01:09   right that was bad when he was the human [TS]

01:01:11   torch but his complete he's in charge [TS]

01:01:14   right yeah he's just totally believable [TS]

01:01:16   and one thing we didn't touch on was [TS]

01:01:18   when he get when they break into the [TS]

01:01:20   Triskelion and he gives the spiritual [TS]

01:01:22   the loudspeakers oh yeah that is that's [TS]

01:01:26   like the most cap thing he can do right [TS]

01:01:28   it's just like okay I'm going down [TS]

01:01:30   fighting if you guys want to do the [TS]

01:01:31   right thing and I know it's a symbol [TS]

01:01:32   he's gonna inspire you [TS]

01:01:34   yeah and it totally worked because i [TS]

01:01:36   loved it right he totally didn't write [TS]

01:01:38   that down very happily surprised and I [TS]

01:01:40   think this made him be the best sequel [TS]

01:01:44   that i can think of in in in the Marvel [TS]

01:01:47   Universe I didn't like I'm at two with [TS]

01:01:49   you as much as for fun but this is a [TS]

01:01:51   strong if not stronger than the original [TS]

01:01:53   at ya captain captain america movie [TS]

01:01:56   Renee what do you think I also i liked a [TS]

01:01:59   lot better than the first one I do like [TS]

01:02:02   Captain America in the comics but I had [TS]

01:02:03   the good fortune of cherry-picking the [TS]

01:02:06   captain america stuff that i read and it [TS]

01:02:07   was always when it was Captain America [TS]

01:02:09   you know standing up for what was right [TS]

01:02:11   and what was decent [TS]

01:02:12   and with really great you know setups [TS]

01:02:14   like things like the winter soldier and [TS]

01:02:16   the captain america civil war and stuff [TS]

01:02:18   and i think the the movies that really [TS]

01:02:20   distill doubt that best part of them and [TS]

01:02:22   I I liked him the ultimate stew and [TS]

01:02:24   doing really interesting things about it [TS]

01:02:25   and I think this is like my favorite [TS]

01:02:27   version captain america over now and I i [TS]

01:02:30   was surprised i was a little worried [TS]

01:02:31   this was going to be the Marvel [TS]

01:02:33   Cinematic Universe equivalent of [TS]

01:02:35   spider-man 3 there's just too many [TS]

01:02:37   characters too many villains too much [TS]

01:02:40   stuff going on too much set up you know [TS]

01:02:42   too much franchise disease dancing and [TS]

01:02:46   it wasn't it was fun [TS]

01:02:47   the the action was good and constrained [TS]

01:02:51   and not you know urban disaster porn [TS]

01:02:53   which is nice and and they use captain [TS]

01:02:56   america effectively chris evans is [TS]

01:02:58   really good the supporting cast is good [TS]

01:03:00   so i was really surprised I was kind of [TS]

01:03:02   not sure what I was going to get out of [TS]

01:03:04   this and it yeah i think it is among the [TS]

01:03:06   best of the marvel cinematic movies it [TS]

01:03:09   helps when you're bought into the series [TS]

01:03:10   because then you get the continuity with [TS]

01:03:13   all the characters from shield and stuff [TS]

01:03:15   like that but you know it was it was a [TS]

01:03:16   lot of fun the action was good it was [TS]

01:03:18   and no point other than some of the [TS]

01:03:21   computer stuff whereas i come on [TS]

01:03:23   other than that I just I enjoyed the [TS]

01:03:25   whole thing I thought it was really way [TS]

01:03:26   better than ever had a right to be and [TS]

01:03:28   was gym when we said that about the [TS]

01:03:30   Avengers to sort of but um and genuinely [TS]

01:03:33   just fun [TS]

01:03:34   i I just thought it was really fun and I [TS]

01:03:35   was surprised because that's not what I [TS]

01:03:37   expected I expected it to be kind of led [TS]

01:03:40   in jam packed with junk and everybody [TS]

01:03:42   got their moments and everybody was used [TS]

01:03:44   correctly it was a kind of brilliant [TS]

01:03:46   characters are so good i don't mind the [TS]

01:03:48   store equals I would otherwise have you [TS]

01:03:50   know it's funny Renee you make you make [TS]

01:03:52   that point about a other characters [TS]

01:03:54   I mean that's one of the great [TS]

01:03:56   advantages of this Marvel movie series [TS]

01:03:58   is that you get to see these characters [TS]

01:04:00   evolve like a TV series you get to spend [TS]

01:04:03   more time with them that a standalone [TS]

01:04:05   movie would let you do and it works [TS]

01:04:08   I mean that's one of the great [TS]

01:04:09   advantages that of this and having joss [TS]

01:04:12   whedon kind of involved now and as well [TS]

01:04:14   as all the people behind the scenes of [TS]

01:04:15   Marvel I mean they're applying like the [TS]

01:04:17   lessons learned from great TV shows to [TS]

01:04:20   what they do with these movies and it [TS]

01:04:22   and it helps because dad's to that [TS]

01:04:23   richness in a way that a standalone [TS]

01:04:24   movie [TS]

01:04:25   just can't can't do it alright well I [TS]

01:04:27   think we've successfully parts are our [TS]

01:04:30   panel with two Canadians on his [TS]

01:04:31   successfully indoors captain america USA [TS]

01:04:34   USA [TS]

01:04:36   hail Hydra no no one at the end guy [TS]

01:04:41   reveals that he's actually a Hydra spot [TS]

01:04:43   you know this was like this a lot of fun [TS]

01:04:46   like like a lot weekend onward to [TS]

01:04:48   guardians of the galaxy I guess that [TS]

01:04:50   looks crazy awesome [TS]

01:04:52   yeah cool bradley cooper is a record [TS]

01:04:54   Rocket Raccoon he's not an actual [TS]

01:04:56   machine guns andy dwyer is a superhero [TS]

01:05:00   yeah that's not his natural I no actual [TS]

01:05:02   character Christopher dad but yeah it [TS]

01:05:05   basically looks like you and Karen [TS]

01:05:08   Gillan from doctor who shaves her head [TS]

01:05:09   to be a and Vin Diesel as root the [TS]

01:05:13   illegitimate daughter of thentis we got [TS]

01:05:16   all that to look forward to but for now [TS]
