00:01:24   making that supreme sacrifice of half of [TS]

00:01:26   your dinner being cold [TS]

00:01:28   I don't know this is the real Jason [TS]

00:01:30   because I don't think the real Jason [TS]

00:01:31   would really care about my dinner [TS]

00:01:33   it's true i have been i may have been [TS]

00:01:34   replaced by a Saigon but let's let's [TS]

00:01:37   let's let bygones be bygones Scott [TS]

00:01:40   oh and we also have Dan Morgan hi Dan [TS]

00:01:46   hello Jason I'm glad that all five of us [TS]

00:01:51   could be imprisoned in this small cell [TS]

00:01:53   together it's good it's good that we [TS]

00:01:56   could we could be in this tiny space [TS]

00:01:57   together answer andy caldwell is the [TS]

00:01:58   unnamed fifth member that Dan was [TS]

00:02:01   referring to there because he's very [TS]

00:02:02   clever and can count I see a movie [TS]

00:02:04   hello did you know the door was open I [TS]

00:02:07   did not think to try it [TS]

00:02:08   that's a reference to a show i just saw [TS]

00:02:09   nice very nice failed i'm gonna break in [TS]

00:02:15   here by the way and point out and what [TS]

00:02:17   will put this at the front of the show [TS]

00:02:18   to we're talking about this episode we [TS]

00:02:19   saw it we're talking about it if you [TS]

00:02:20   don't want to be spoiled a don't listen [TS]

00:02:22   to this episode thank you [TS]

00:02:24   this has been a public sorry I yea sorry [TS]

00:02:26   should I read on the horn yeah like [TS]

00:02:28   mission start with the spoiler [TS]

00:02:30   the spoiler TARDIS yes [TS]

00:02:37   the day of the doctor is what we saw [TS]

00:02:39   lots of stuff I I even yeah lots of [TS]

00:02:43   stuff [TS]

00:02:44   what wow let's just go around and I love [TS]

00:02:46   some first impressions of how people [TS]

00:02:48   what people thought about this and liked [TS]

00:02:50   about this episode because you know I'm [TS]

00:02:52   still processing it i think Dan serenity [TS]

00:02:54   just literally just alright so let's [TS]

00:02:56   start with David Lauren will give them a [TS]

00:02:58   little extra processing time David some [TS]

00:03:00   first initial thoughts about the the [TS]

00:03:01   doctor who 50th special um I had the [TS]

00:03:04   biggest damn smile on my face through [TS]

00:03:06   most of it and at the end I I was pretty [TS]

00:03:09   much a giggling wreck [TS]

00:03:10   yeah i loved it i mean i've always said [TS]

00:03:14   that I prefer Moffat to Davies is as in [TS]

00:03:17   terms of the reboot and you know and [TS]

00:03:21   even when I have issues with Moffitt and [TS]

00:03:23   I've had issues with Moffat that episode [TS]

00:03:26   made up for all of its just so that's [TS]

00:03:28   why I like him and he went back and [TS]

00:03:30   fixed the the worst thing I thought [TS]

00:03:32   babies ever did which was destroying [TS]

00:03:35   Gallifrey it's like why would you do [TS]

00:03:36   that and then you know you have these [TS]

00:03:39   these people who can travel through time [TS]

00:03:41   and fix things so i wouldn't go and fix [TS]

00:03:43   it and he's managed to save everything [TS]

00:03:44   else in the universe [TS]

00:03:45   why didn't he save that and boom saved [TS]

00:03:49   done [TS]

00:03:49   it's like oh of course I he I know why [TS]

00:03:52   right Russell Davis took the Time Lords [TS]

00:03:54   off the boards because they were boring [TS]

00:03:56   and super powerful and he wanted to give [TS]

00:03:59   the doctor a an interesting angle to his [TS]

00:04:03   story that he was this last survivor but [TS]

00:04:05   I see when you said the worst thing [TS]

00:04:07   Russell Davis ever did I thought you [TS]

00:04:08   meant the episode the end of time [TS]

00:04:11   uh-huh nobody the other one is but but [TS]

00:04:14   is angel eyes see it again but the same [TS]

00:04:16   the same thing applies which is that [TS]

00:04:19   this episode essentially has a whole big [TS]

00:04:20   chunk that takes place kind of in the [TS]

00:04:21   middle of the end of time because it's [TS]

00:04:24   actually alluded to they say though the [TS]

00:04:26   great High Council is meeting we know [TS]

00:04:27   they're doing very bad things because we [TS]

00:04:29   saw that in the end of time and so I [TS]

00:04:32   thought that was interesting that this [TS]

00:04:33   is this is steven moffat taking having [TS]

00:04:36   taken the reins three years ago from [TS]

00:04:38   russell davis and or i guess going on [TS]

00:04:41   for years ago maybe uh and uh and [TS]

00:04:46   rewriting the most significant thing [TS]

00:04:48   that Russell Davis did in terms of [TS]

00:04:50   doctor who sort of current [TS]

00:04:51   ecology by undoing this destruction of [TS]

00:04:57   Gallifrey which is a I thought that was [TS]

00:05:00   I thought it was interesting i don't [TS]

00:05:01   know what it what it means for the for [TS]

00:05:03   the future of the show and whether this [TS]

00:05:04   just sort of lays out there for a while [TS]

00:05:06   or what but I thought I thought it was [TS]

00:05:08   interesting that that it's rewriting [TS]

00:05:09   recent Doctor Who history but yeah and I [TS]

00:05:14   think maybe a good way [TS]

00:05:15   yeah you know I because i love the idea [TS]

00:05:18   now that he's looking for home again but [TS]

00:05:21   he doesn't have to go there right away [TS]

00:05:22   you know it's just there you know it [TS]

00:05:25   doesn't need to change anything he's [TS]

00:05:26   still by himself he's still doing his [TS]

00:05:28   thing and I just I love again you know [TS]

00:05:32   how it was in and out of time in and out [TS]

00:05:34   of events and how one thing led to you [TS]

00:05:38   know here's the feds and here is jumping [TS]

00:05:40   through and here's the Queen and here's [TS]

00:05:41   this here's that and it all you know and [TS]

00:05:45   I saw some people on Twitter early [TS]

00:05:46   ongoing how the pacing is awful like let [TS]

00:05:50   it play for more than 20 minutes before [TS]

00:05:52   you start complaining about the pacing I [TS]

00:05:54   mean real i thought the pace it was [TS]

00:05:55   brilliant because yeah I thought that it [TS]

00:05:57   was confident enough to know that it had [TS]

00:05:59   90 minutes essentially or 75 minutes and [TS]

00:06:03   I was really grateful that we were [TS]

00:06:06   getting that early story and a couple [TS]

00:06:08   large blocks rather than a deal I quick [TS]

00:06:10   cut back and forth back and forth and [TS]

00:06:11   back and forth like it was it knew it [TS]

00:06:13   had the time to tell the story and so it [TS]

00:06:15   wasn't it was going to take the time [TS]

00:06:17   yeah I actually I found it really [TS]

00:06:18   impressive because I felt the entire [TS]

00:06:20   this entire season has felt a bit rushed [TS]

00:06:22   to me in terms of the episodes pacing [TS]

00:06:24   was not always my favorite and I felt [TS]

00:06:27   like we weren't spending enough time [TS]

00:06:28   developing characters are missing out [TS]

00:06:30   scenes etc and in contrast I actually [TS]

00:06:33   think the pacing of this special is [TS]

00:06:36   fantastic enters its fast-paced but they [TS]

00:06:39   take exactly the amount of time they [TS]

00:06:40   need to set up the scene and focus on [TS]

00:06:43   the things that are important and crack [TS]

00:06:45   a few jokes too [TS]

00:06:46   while still advancing the story [TS]

00:06:48   absolutely and and just the chemistry i [TS]

00:06:51   mean it's it's no big shock attendant [TS]

00:06:53   and Smith would be fantastic together [TS]

00:06:55   but oh my god they're so much fun they [TS]

00:06:58   really were when John her obviously [TS]

00:07:00   whose them you are demented he didn't [TS]

00:07:02   he's like he's like he's a master [TS]

00:07:04   ready will note that if you've seen [TS]

00:07:05   anything else he's done right mean yeah [TS]

00:07:07   you know the guys event so it but he did [TS]

00:07:10   a great job with that [TS]

00:07:11   why do people speak like children why [TS]

00:07:13   the one part is when you can build two [TS]

00:07:15   for twice the price [TS]

00:07:16   that's what I say so i had to contact [TS]

00:07:18   references anybody seen that movie John [TS]

00:07:19   Hurt's in and are absolutely yeah might [TS]

00:07:23   explain some of the costs off things [TS]

00:07:25   like you know [TS]

00:07:26   brave words dick van dyke and just keep [TS]

00:07:29   going and I was like did I really hear [TS]

00:07:30   that [TS]

00:07:31   yes yes I did yeah i mean the pacing at [TS]

00:07:34   the beginning that was I'm glad I'm glad [TS]

00:07:36   that came up because i like that it was [TS]

00:07:37   not one of those cut and instead it was [TS]

00:07:41   very much like okay we're gonna follow [TS]

00:07:42   matt smith and and it's the doctor and [TS]

00:07:45   Clara and they've got this sort of [TS]

00:07:47   beginning adventure and then we know [TS]

00:07:49   that the all the doctors are gonna meet [TS]

00:07:52   and so we get John Hurt story and we see [TS]

00:07:54   that kind of intersection point and we [TS]

00:07:56   get sort of david tennant story and we [TS]

00:07:58   see that intersection point and then [TS]

00:07:59   puts them together i liked i like that [TS]

00:08:01   and throughout the story that that it [TS]

00:08:04   was it didn't feel slow pace to me it [TS]

00:08:06   felt confident and it ratcheted things [TS]

00:08:08   up as it went and I didn't feel like it [TS]

00:08:12   was just trying to shovel for as much as [TS]

00:08:15   in this episode I didn't feel like it [TS]

00:08:17   was you know sweaty and painting and [TS]

00:08:21   shoveling crazy references at me every [TS]

00:08:23   minute which would have been I think [TS]

00:08:24   understandable if that had been what it [TS]

00:08:26   was and you know it would have been kind [TS]

00:08:28   of like okay like a Halloween candy [TS]

00:08:31   overlap or something right it didn't [TS]

00:08:32   feel like I'm surprised actually that it [TS]

00:08:34   felt like it had actually room to [TS]

00:08:36   breathe which it didn't have to it could [TS]

00:08:38   have been completely insanely packed [TS]

00:08:40   yeah I was worried a little bit when [TS]

00:08:41   Ingrid all girl came on-screen you're [TS]

00:08:43   like oh she's wearing the Fourth Doctor [TS]

00:08:45   scarf is the entire episode basically [TS]

00:08:47   going to be tchotchkes and memorabilia [TS]

00:08:48   of previous doctors but it actually [TS]

00:08:50   turned out to be quite subtle and [TS]

00:08:52   understated which I appreciated [TS]

00:08:54   yeah absolutely Scott what are your [TS]

00:08:57   thoughts [TS]

00:08:57   I liked it thumbs up i enjoyed a Billie [TS]

00:09:01   Piper's role as the conscience the [TS]

00:09:04   interface to the moment I thought that [TS]

00:09:06   was a good choice now overall it was fun [TS]

00:09:10   I like pacing I liked the ending I mean [TS]

00:09:13   I'm not like a super huge long time [TS]

00:09:16   doctor who [TS]

00:09:16   and so the shocking surprise ending [TS]

00:09:20   cameo which I knew about didn't really [TS]

00:09:23   impact me as much as I'm sure did other [TS]

00:09:25   people but I don't like I found that was [TS]

00:09:28   delightful [TS]

00:09:29   yeah it was called lending and it was [TS]

00:09:32   wrapped in enough explanation that you [TS]

00:09:35   could make up your own explanation about [TS]

00:09:37   it but it really wasn't like the point [TS]

00:09:39   and which it was just kind of nice and [TS]

00:09:42   and people can dice and will and have [TS]

00:09:44   and are doing so right now on the [TS]

00:09:46   internet that's exactly what it means [TS]

00:09:47   but um but in the end it we got it we [TS]

00:09:51   got a scene where Tom Baker who may or [TS]

00:09:53   may not be the future version trying on [TS]

00:09:56   old faces of the doctor but he's retired [TS]

00:09:58   and he's running this is the curator of [TS]

00:10:01   this bizarre museum gallery place to [TS]

00:10:04   having a conversation with matt smith [TS]

00:10:07   how great is that there's a conversation [TS]

00:10:09   between matt smith and tom baker in the [TS]

00:10:11   show that's cool that's and Don Baker [TS]

00:10:13   for all you know the fact is he is [TS]

00:10:16   essentially the definitive kid actor who [TS]

00:10:19   played this character and we it's boring [TS]

00:10:21   to pick him i was saying this in our [TS]

00:10:22   doctor who episode 2 it'sit's was born [TS]

00:10:24   to pick him but everybody when you think [TS]

00:10:27   of Doctor Who I mean maybe people start [TS]

00:10:28   to think of David Tennant that Smith but [TS]

00:10:30   it's that guy in the scarf and a hat and [TS]

00:10:32   I mean that's so to have him on what who [TS]

00:10:34   is not on the 20th anniversary episode [TS]

00:10:36   by the way is that was cool [TS]

00:10:39   yeah I was gonna say in contrast to [TS]

00:10:41   David's point as someone who really has [TS]

00:10:43   only been in you know the Doctor Who [TS]

00:10:46   universe since the reboot like I kind of [TS]

00:10:49   always knew the doctor as that you know [TS]

00:10:52   he's the last of the Time Lords identity [TS]

00:10:54   you know that was kind of the overriding [TS]

00:10:56   image i always had of him so it wasn't [TS]

00:10:59   for me necessarily the judge whether [TS]

00:11:00   that was for good or for ill it was just [TS]

00:11:02   it simply was and so it was interesting [TS]

00:11:05   to take a different perspective on that [TS]

00:11:07   and you know it's nice that you have a [TS]

00:11:10   show that is run long enough that you [TS]

00:11:12   can take the time if you'll excuse the [TS]

00:11:15   expression to develop those kinds of [TS]

00:11:17   stories I mean you know if you're doing [TS]

00:11:19   this in an American network television [TS]

00:11:20   show like at the end of the first season [TS]

00:11:22   you would have been like oh I'm afraid [TS]

00:11:23   not destroyed but look you know that was [TS]

00:11:25   I was eight years ago you know it's [TS]

00:11:28   we've had the show this has been running [TS]

00:11:29   for the [TS]

00:11:30   the current incarnation has been running [TS]

00:11:31   for eight years now and that's a long [TS]

00:11:34   time to tease out that plot thread but [TS]

00:11:36   I'm glad because it feels like it has [TS]

00:11:39   significance then right after has weight [TS]

00:11:41   if you wait for their eight years as [TS]

00:11:43   opposed to 13 episodes and and they [TS]

00:11:45   decided to change it and so you know it [TS]

00:11:48   feels like a big ground shift and it [TS]

00:11:49   also feels like a big setting the stage [TS]

00:11:51   moment given what we know is going to [TS]

00:11:53   happen in the Christmas episode you know [TS]

00:11:55   this is a transition point i think its [TS]

00:11:57   cool the idea that especially the idea [TS]

00:11:59   that I mean you is there an argument [TS]

00:12:01   that this this had always happened right [TS]

00:12:04   yeah we get oh right so like you based [TS]

00:12:06   on the nature of time travel [TS]

00:12:08   you know this was true in very at the [TS]

00:12:11   beginning of the show we just didn't [TS]

00:12:13   know it [TS]

00:12:14   right so that's all the fun continuity [TS]

00:12:16   stuff that you can tease out having to [TS]

00:12:18   do with time travel so I'd like to I [TS]

00:12:20   thought that was cool to bring that sort [TS]

00:12:22   of it was a different kind of episode [TS]

00:12:24   two me and I like the fact that it [TS]

00:12:26   played into a lot of the mythological [TS]

00:12:27   stuff and we have this incarnation the [TS]

00:12:30   war doctor who is a very different type [TS]

00:12:32   of doctor but in the end you know more [TS]

00:12:35   similar than different and it was nice [TS]

00:12:37   to have the idea of the doctors you know [TS]

00:12:40   saving himself too right yes I thought I [TS]

00:12:43   thought that was a nice touch [TS]

00:12:45   you mentioned the ground shift and I [TS]

00:12:47   it's coming into this steven moffat said [TS]

00:12:50   he was trying to set this was about not [TS]

00:12:52   celebrating the last 50 but setting up [TS]

00:12:53   the next 50 and I thought well that's [TS]

00:12:55   nice bit of hype but come on but I I [TS]

00:12:58   think you're right in that it feels like [TS]

00:13:00   some of the assumptions and grounding [TS]

00:13:02   and premise of the show not of all time [TS]

00:13:05   but of since 2005 has shifted with this [TS]

00:13:09   episode that it's not about the time war [TS]

00:13:11   it's not about what happened Gallifrey [TS]

00:13:13   is out there somewhere maybe you could [TS]

00:13:14   go get it but it's like you know it's [TS]

00:13:16   almost like the dot we know the doctor [TS]

00:13:18   is moving on with his life he is [TS]

00:13:19   resolved this issue he had about the [TS]

00:13:22   time war and perhaps he did it through [TS]

00:13:23   time traveler perhaps it was always that [TS]

00:13:25   way right that's always that time travel [TS]

00:13:27   question by the way how great is it that [TS]

00:13:29   John Hurt just keeps rolling his eyes at [TS]

00:13:31   all the catchphrases that the table [TS]

00:13:33   tiny why me and alan zi and he's like oh [TS]

00:13:37   my god why must you talk like what what [TS]

00:13:40   a great week [TS]

00:13:41   you know doesn't in retrospect make the [TS]

00:13:44   casting of Peter Capaldi who briefly [TS]

00:13:46   appears very very as doesn't have that [TS]

00:13:49   much more sense now but he's talking [TS]

00:13:51   about the maybe it's time to grow up [TS]

00:13:53   yes like we've had you know three fairly [TS]

00:13:55   young incarnations of the doctor maybe [TS]

00:13:58   it's time that you know we have a doctor [TS]

00:13:59   who is a little more on the adult side [TS]

00:14:01   and that's that to me is an interesting [TS]

00:14:03   another sort of like wob setup [TS]

00:14:06   well you it's it's almost set up in this [TS]

00:14:08   episode because the future travels of [TS]

00:14:11   the doctor could be i'm looking for the [TS]

00:14:13   children right and in order to look for [TS]

00:14:14   the children you have to be a grown-up [TS]

00:14:16   in order to find the children of [TS]

00:14:17   Gallifrey and the the future of [TS]

00:14:19   Gallifrey very nice but you know I have [TS]

00:14:22   to say when they when they first [TS]

00:14:24   announced him as being the next doctor [TS]

00:14:26   and I thought he's got to show up in [TS]

00:14:28   this episode somewhere even attics stars [TS]

00:14:30   i was so happy to see him but even even [TS]

00:14:32   having predicted that I let out an [TS]

00:14:35   audible yelp when he just showed up and [TS]

00:14:37   and my youngest son looked up with what [TS]

00:14:40   happens nothing nothing just get going [TS]

00:14:42   just watchin watchin show but it sits in [TS]

00:14:46   there and I I like David I I find [TS]

00:14:48   there's no way Steven Moffat is going to [TS]

00:14:50   have already cast the next doctor and [TS]

00:14:52   there's no way he can resist being [TS]

00:14:54   having to be the first time where a [TS]

00:14:56   future doctor appears earlier in the [TS]

00:14:59   show there's no way he could resist and [TS]

00:15:02   so obviously they shot something [TS]

00:15:03   probably around the same time shot Matt [TS]

00:15:05   Smith's regeneration and dropped it in [TS]

00:15:08   there and said you'll be seeing him soon [TS]

00:15:09   and that was pretty that was pretty cool [TS]

00:15:12   and it was it was quick right it wasn't [TS]

00:15:14   like a whole thing I was almost [TS]

00:15:16   expecting that at the end instead of it [TS]

00:15:18   being Tom Baker coming out at the end [TS]

00:15:19   would be here Capaldi and with that with [TS]

00:15:21   the the gallery being revealed as having [TS]

00:15:23   those into the gallery had those [TS]

00:15:25   hexagons on the wall and I kept figuring [TS]

00:15:27   we were just going to go out that back [TS]

00:15:28   door the gallery and it was going to be [TS]

00:15:30   the TARDIS and that would be the end [TS]

00:15:31   right but we got it a little differently [TS]

00:15:34   than that but still pretty cool [TS]

00:15:35   be it may be inside somewhere it may be [TS]

00:15:38   a latter-day Tom Baker's a partisan [TS]

00:15:41   could be i wanted to somebody mentioned [TS]

00:15:44   Billie Piper I think I think Scott did [TS]

00:15:46   and and as they as that sort of avatar [TS]

00:15:49   of the moment it and I'll i really like [TS]

00:15:51   the idea of the moment which was again [TS]

00:15:52   dropped in the end of time [TS]

00:15:54   manhattan and then picked up here which [TS]

00:15:55   is that I really love that it is the [TS]

00:15:58   most horrible weapon in the universe but [TS]

00:16:01   it's sentient and it needs to be [TS]

00:16:02   convinced to be used I think that's such [TS]

00:16:04   an amazing idea and then to have it be [TS]

00:16:07   in the form of of a Billy Piper which [TS]

00:16:10   gets her into this episode without it [TS]

00:16:12   being explaining that it's rose which I [TS]

00:16:14   thought was cool the great line about I [TS]

00:16:15   got it from your past or future i keep [TS]

00:16:17   getting us mixed up [TS]

00:16:19   it's also good and she did it I thought [TS]

00:16:21   she did a great job in that part which [TS]

00:16:23   is a little bit of rows and also a [TS]

00:16:25   little bit of not this sort of [TS]

00:16:27   mysterious powerful force trying to [TS]

00:16:29   guide the doctor in the right direction [TS]

00:16:30   i thought that was cool [TS]

00:16:31   well you've got somebody who's playing [TS]

00:16:33   the alex kingston roll who's not wrote [TS]

00:16:36   or not river for once and I think [TS]

00:16:38   everybody's gotten a little like I love [TS]

00:16:39   Alex Kingston and i love the river song [TS]

00:16:41   storylines but I think everybody had got [TS]

00:16:44   maybe a little burnt out on river song [TS]

00:16:46   so it allows Steven Moffat to have that [TS]

00:16:48   kind of playful i have i have cards that [TS]

00:16:51   you haven't seen that are played yet [TS]

00:16:53   character on the show and allow them to [TS]

00:16:57   kind of leave the doctor by the nose [TS]

00:16:58   without necessarily putting alex [TS]

00:17:00   kingston the role again [TS]

00:17:02   well then how it was very odd to me to [TS]

00:17:04   realize well we're never going to have a [TS]

00:17:06   scene with billie piper and david [TS]

00:17:07   tennant where they talk to each other [TS]

00:17:09   you know it's kind of strange wonderful [TS]

00:17:12   one shot where he's like did you say [TS]

00:17:13   badwater have Billie Piper just sort of [TS]

00:17:16   smiling behind him [TS]

00:17:18   well actually that and that's [TS]

00:17:19   immediately preceded by John Hurt saying [TS]

00:17:22   that were Wulfgar like a kiss you and [TS]

00:17:24   she says yeah that's gonna happen that [TS]

00:17:29   was all that was really good [TS]

00:17:31   somebody in the chat room is asking [TS]

00:17:33   talking about it's a shame that a [TS]

00:17:34   christopher eccleston couldn't be in it [TS]

00:17:37   and it's true they had they did actually [TS]

00:17:38   when John Hurt regenerates at the very [TS]

00:17:40   end of the episode first he says these [TS]

00:17:42   bodies weren't a little thin which is [TS]

00:17:43   what William Hartnell says before he [TS]

00:17:45   regenerates and they did if you look [TS]

00:17:48   closely it's Christopher Eccleston's [TS]

00:17:50   eyes who appear just before they cut [TS]

00:17:52   away so they they used enough computer [TS]

00:17:55   graphics to imply christopher eccleston [TS]

00:17:56   without without you know going further [TS]

00:18:00   and trying to do even more compositing [TS]

00:18:02   to make it you know more clear we do get [TS]

00:18:04   a shot of him in [TS]

00:18:05   from archive footage we shot a hole in [TS]

00:18:07   the whole government and i like that his [TS]

00:18:09   there's a there's a certain element of [TS]

00:18:12   his aesthetic in the war doctors outfit [TS]

00:18:15   with the leather jacket and everything [TS]

00:18:16   so I mean there's a little bit of [TS]

00:18:18   continuity there which i think is nice i [TS]

00:18:21   also appreciate that at the very end he [TS]

00:18:23   makes the comment of oh I'm not going to [TS]

00:18:25   remember this i'm going to you know walk [TS]

00:18:27   out of here still believing that I [TS]

00:18:29   potentially destroy Gallifrey I'm like [TS]

00:18:31   good job Steven Moffat way to cover your [TS]

00:18:34   bases and now but you know why don't [TS]

00:18:36   they remember it yeah exactly exactly [TS]

00:18:39   and and matt smith says oh i remember [TS]

00:18:40   this [TS]

00:18:41   I'll kind of right and and it's that [TS]

00:18:43   moment where it's all sort of falling [TS]

00:18:44   for him and it explains away why they [TS]

00:18:47   would not you know know everything you [TS]

00:18:49   know David Tennant would know it twice [TS]

00:18:51   and matt smith would know it three times [TS]

00:18:53   it the rumor is that Steven Moffat wrote [TS]

00:18:56   the John Hurt part for christopher [TS]

00:18:58   eccleston and then when he couldn't get [TS]

00:18:59   him back he conceived this whole mystery [TS]

00:19:01   doctor and and watching this episode I [TS]

00:19:03   thought oh yeah that this would have [TS]

00:19:05   worked perfectly [TS]

00:19:07   as Christopher Eccleston's in that part [TS]

00:19:09   but it worked fine without and you know [TS]

00:19:12   John Hurt is not a bad guy to catch this [TS]

00:19:14   renounce Messalina know he did a great [TS]

00:19:16   job and it actually it does play on that [TS]

00:19:18   because they are so young tenant and and [TS]

00:19:21   Smith a it works in that you don't you [TS]

00:19:24   don't have that moment like well where's [TS]

00:19:25   the ninth doctor because it's like well [TS]

00:19:27   no the whole idea here is that they [TS]

00:19:30   these two guys have lived and I really [TS]

00:19:31   like that they look young so there's [TS]

00:19:33   that contrast and they both talked about [TS]

00:19:34   how many hundreds of years they both [TS]

00:19:36   lived quite a few hundred for David [TS]

00:19:39   Tennant and another three or 400 for [TS]

00:19:40   Matt Smith to think about what happened [TS]

00:19:43   when they were John Hurt which it you [TS]

00:19:45   know it'sit's not implied it stated and [TS]

00:19:48   it's and it's part of why the decisions [TS]

00:19:50   that they make are what they are which I [TS]

00:19:52   thought was really nice that that's a [TS]

00:19:53   doctor who think that a lot of times you [TS]

00:19:55   look you know ask me later I'll explain [TS]

00:19:57   it later right and instead they [TS]

00:19:59   addressed it and it was part of the [TS]

00:20:00   story where you there's a line you can [TS]

00:20:02   draw now from like you know the point [TS]

00:20:05   where you have the the John her doctor [TS]

00:20:07   all the way through all what we've seen [TS]

00:20:09   that now makes you know has a nice arc [TS]

00:20:12   of continuity into why even you look at [TS]

00:20:15   things like you know the [TS]

00:20:17   it was a doctor dances like that the [TS]

00:20:19   episode [TS]

00:20:20   yeah we're like everybody lives right [TS]

00:20:22   like all of that you know there's this [TS]

00:20:23   huge lovely line of continuity about why [TS]

00:20:26   the doctor makes the choices he does and [TS]

00:20:29   how this is shaped him and I think [TS]

00:20:30   that's wonderful and it also allows the [TS]

00:20:33   whole playing with the age thing because [TS]

00:20:35   I know the the Matt Smith dr. the [TS]

00:20:37   eleventh Doctor's age I think he's [TS]

00:20:38   always been interesting which they kind [TS]

00:20:40   of alluded to and the point where the [TS]

00:20:41   prisoners over is like I mean maybe I'm [TS]

00:20:43   lying about my age and you know you've [TS]

00:20:45   got an old when you can't remember how [TS]

00:20:47   old you are [TS]

00:20:48   because they jump back and forth with [TS]

00:20:49   him because there's that whole thing [TS]

00:20:50   with the river and going well in the day [TS]

00:20:52   of the moon and all back [TS]

00:20:54   crud words like actually the older [TS]

00:20:56   version of the doctor but not so I don't [TS]

00:20:58   know it's it's nice that they do a lot [TS]

00:21:00   of hand waving a couple points but [TS]

00:21:01   that's alright because that's kind of [TS]

00:21:02   the story that they're telling we got to [TS]

00:21:04   see there is a character wearing a Tom [TS]

00:21:06   Baker scarf that sort of strange i'm [TS]

00:21:07   starting to wonder now if the curator [TS]

00:21:09   didn't suggest that she worry I've got a [TS]

00:21:10   longer if you can wear [TS]

00:21:12   I mean why not interesting that happened [TS]

00:21:15   to be Tom Baker scarf and Tom Baker [TS]

00:21:17   appears the end of the aisle at this [TS]

00:21:18   little in 12 course but it's a yes it's [TS]

00:21:22   very iconic Doctor Who memorabilia but [TS]

00:21:24   at the same time like you get the sense [TS]

00:21:26   i actually I'm sure that character is [TS]

00:21:28   just a one-off but I almost hope that [TS]

00:21:30   she appears again because she they [TS]

00:21:32   Moffat crafted her a little bit more [TS]

00:21:34   interesting leave that he does some of [TS]

00:21:36   his other one offs and if I mean is she [TS]

00:21:39   supposed to be a cure a part of the [TS]

00:21:41   museum staff apartment you know [TS]

00:21:43   yeah so it's entirely I mean it's [TS]

00:21:46   entirely possible that she might have [TS]

00:21:47   any some kind of interaction with the [TS]

00:21:49   curator it can even be that that's where [TS]

00:21:52   the Fourth Doctor got the idea to wear [TS]

00:21:53   that scarf [TS]

00:21:55   oh yeah we just we go around in circles [TS]

00:21:56   like this all day [TS]

00:21:58   yeah well I liked it there was some [TS]

00:22:00   through you know again I'm you know I've [TS]

00:22:02   been watching as long as some of you [TS]

00:22:04   have but yeah there were some nice tips [TS]

00:22:06   they had two things from the earlier [TS]

00:22:08   eras and Captain jacket to mention [TS]

00:22:10   riversong shoes are in the black r-ky [TS]

00:22:13   yeah there's lots of like little little [TS]

00:22:16   references to things from from earlier [TS]

00:22:19   incarnations so it was you know I always [TS]

00:22:21   enjoyed little tips that they had to the [TS]

00:22:23   continuity especially in an issue like [TS]

00:22:25   this which has so much continuity beyond [TS]

00:22:27   the under note [TS]

00:22:29   just a reference to the end of time in [TS]

00:22:31   here by the way is Queen Elizabeth the [TS]

00:22:33   first which right which in the end of [TS]

00:22:36   time as the doctor is doing his sort of [TS]

00:22:38   final travels before he knows he's going [TS]

00:22:40   to go and meet his fate he mentions [TS]

00:22:42   basically that he married Queen [TS]

00:22:44   Elizabeth the first [TS]

00:22:46   so that's that's resolved here and and [TS]

00:22:49   that means it's it's russell davis fault [TS]

00:22:51   that the doctor started getting married [TS]

00:22:52   and not Steven Moffat switch is also [TS]

00:22:54   really funny and and then of course [TS]

00:22:56   she's referenced also in the end of the [TS]

00:22:58   Shakespeare episode where I'm she tries [TS]

00:23:00   to to have the guards kill the doctor [TS]

00:23:02   and now we realize that's because he [TS]

00:23:04   married her and then disappeared and [TS]

00:23:05   never came back so that was nice and [TS]

00:23:08   then the other big reference in here is [TS]

00:23:10   the Zygons who were in an episode from [TS]

00:23:11   1976 with tom baker and have never been [TS]

00:23:14   seen since he's a big funny sucker [TS]

00:23:17   covered shape-shifting alien guys and [TS]

00:23:20   and therefore and they were seen an [TS]

00:23:22   episode set in Scotland and I think [TS]

00:23:23   Steven Moffat and david tennant had [TS]

00:23:25   sworn that one day they would do being [TS]

00:23:28   Scotsman themselves they would get the [TS]

00:23:30   Zygons in an episode and they did it in [TS]

00:23:32   the 50th I appreciate the fact that [TS]

00:23:34   there were men in rubber suits [TS]

00:23:36   absolutely is Absolut so this guy's [TS]

00:23:39   classic Doctor Who yes [TS]

00:23:41   oh wow that was really funny my my uh my [TS]

00:23:43   kids and I were watching this together [TS]

00:23:45   and and and i said just about like two [TS]

00:23:48   seconds forever and always force it was [TS]

00:23:52   the horse he's like yeah it was the [TS]

00:23:54   horse [TS]

00:23:55   this is I gone there now that was really [TS]

00:23:56   funny it was good lot of funny stuff but [TS]

00:23:59   yeah we expect that from steve from off [TS]

00:24:01   and I guess what L said and generally [TS]

00:24:04   positive thoughts anything else that you [TS]

00:24:05   wanted to talk about in particular i [TS]

00:24:07   mean i-i thought it was really fantastic [TS]

00:24:10   i thought they used Jenna Coleman well [TS]

00:24:13   in the entirely throughout this episode [TS]

00:24:15   in episode that really wasn't about [TS]

00:24:17   companions they found a way to weave her [TS]

00:24:20   into the story and such a way that did [TS]

00:24:21   not make it feel like she was just kind [TS]

00:24:23   of hanging out at the end and be like [TS]

00:24:25   hey guys so there's button that you [TS]

00:24:28   could press together or maybe not like [TS]

00:24:31   you already have sort of rose playing [TS]

00:24:32   this bad wolf character I I appreciate [TS]

00:24:36   that when they do have her in the scenes [TS]

00:24:38   she's actually making some kind [TS]

00:24:40   effect and basically standing in for [TS]

00:24:43   Humanity in some ways while while Billy [TS]

00:24:46   Piper's characters sort of the the [TS]

00:24:49   compass on one end of the spectrum she's [TS]

00:24:51   kind of like the compass for well [TS]

00:24:53   remember what you've become remember all [TS]

00:24:55   the other things that you can do don't [TS]

00:24:56   forget Clarence job is to say the doctor [TS]

00:24:58   and as we saw in the the name of the [TS]

00:25:00   doctor the last episode of the last [TS]

00:25:02   season she didn't she didn't see John [TS]

00:25:04   Hurt's doctor she never got a chance to [TS]

00:25:05   save him and is that not what she does [TS]

00:25:08   by saying mmm maybe you don't need to [TS]

00:25:10   destroy Gallifrey I mean in some ways [TS]

00:25:12   she saved her job is to say the doctor [TS]

00:25:13   she saved the doctor by having him not [TS]

00:25:15   destroy his planet in the end which is [TS]

00:25:17   kinda cool and she was yeah she was [TS]

00:25:19   never in that traditional companion mode [TS]

00:25:20   she was very much [TS]

00:25:22   I don't know it will be interesting to [TS]

00:25:23   see how they portray her going forward [TS]

00:25:24   because she's had that moment we talked [TS]

00:25:26   about where she saved him already [TS]

00:25:28   you could say her story is done or you [TS]

00:25:30   could look at it and say look she's now [TS]

00:25:31   an expert she's seen everything there is [TS]

00:25:34   to see about the doctor she like totally [TS]

00:25:36   gets it now and that's what she was in [TS]

00:25:38   this episode she was like everything she [TS]

00:25:40   did and suggested was right on the nose [TS]

00:25:42   it wasn't you know she she knew what she [TS]

00:25:45   was doing and she say she saved the day [TS]

00:25:46   in the end in one way by being the one [TS]

00:25:49   to say you don't need to do this you you [TS]

00:25:51   know what you're letting yourself down [TS]

00:25:52   if you go ahead with us and then setting [TS]

00:25:54   it up for the next generation you have [TS]

00:25:56   the possibility of having a companion [TS]

00:25:57   who knows even more about the doctor in [TS]

00:26:00   some ways than he does about himself but [TS]

00:26:02   I was gonna say the overall i really [TS]

00:26:05   enjoyed it as well I also like on the [TS]

00:26:06   clear front that in that very first [TS]

00:26:08   scene you get that call out to the first [TS]

00:26:10   doctor with a foreman right cousin that [TS]

00:26:13   the his granddaughter's last angry when [TS]

00:26:15   I was the very first scene even more [TS]

00:26:17   than that the first thing of this shows [TS]

00:26:19   the sign pointing toward the junkyard [TS]

00:26:21   which is where the TARDIS was but it's [TS]

00:26:23   at coal Hill School which is where we [TS]

00:26:25   first see Susan and her two teachers who [TS]

00:26:28   become a barbarian who become the first [TS]

00:26:31   other companion along with Susan and on [TS]

00:26:33   the sign it says the head of the board [TS]

00:26:35   of governors I chesterton which means [TS]

00:26:38   that the guy who who is the head of the [TS]

00:26:40   board of governors that school is ian [TS]

00:26:41   from the first episode of Doctor Who [TS]

00:26:43   which is pretty awesome so that they did [TS]

00:26:46   they did the tip of the cap right at the [TS]

00:26:48   beginning and then they had a motorcycle [TS]

00:26:49   drive right into the TARDIS which by the [TS]

00:26:51   way was really awesome and [TS]

00:26:52   was i I was gonna say my one [TS]

00:26:54   disappointment though which was watching [TS]

00:26:58   the time war [TS]

00:27:00   it felt kind of pedestrian to me like [TS]

00:27:03   you're kind of imagine think the other [TS]

00:27:04   just shouldn't imagine like these are [TS]

00:27:07   people who have the power to manipulate [TS]

00:27:08   time and space you feel like it would be [TS]

00:27:10   this kind of conflict that's almost [TS]

00:27:12   unfathomable like multi-layered hugely [TS]

00:27:16   crazy conflict and at the end of the day [TS]

00:27:18   it's people shooting at each other which [TS]

00:27:20   is a little which is spectacular but [TS]

00:27:21   like a little bit like a Time Lord so [TS]

00:27:24   they're basically just people got [TS]

00:27:27   somebody looking for more like a looper [TS]

00:27:29   type special effects were composed [TS]

00:27:31   suddenly started disappearing I I [TS]

00:27:33   thought about that too i mean i can [TS]

00:27:35   explain about away by saying this is [TS]

00:27:37   like the ground war in the final [TS]

00:27:39   invasion and it has to be done by force [TS]

00:27:42   and that across the rest of the galaxy [TS]

00:27:43   obviously crazy time things were [TS]

00:27:45   happening or what a reference that with [TS]

00:27:48   all the worlds that get burned away and [TS]

00:27:49   everything that all the ripple effect [TS]

00:27:51   right but you're absolutely right that [TS]

00:27:53   as spectacular and it was and I was like [TS]

00:27:56   this is doctor who this is really these [TS]

00:27:58   are great special effects at the same [TS]

00:27:59   time I was like it is a lot of pewpewpew [TS]

00:28:02   of laser peeps you know [TS]

00:28:04   yeah the laser beams look good they were [TS]

00:28:07   good lady didn't look around you just [TS]

00:28:08   felt a little weird because it felt like [TS]

00:28:10   watching and crazy dominating the shops [TS]

00:28:12   and stuff you didn't feel like Time [TS]

00:28:14   Lords did you know that doctor who could [TS]

00:28:16   look [TS]

00:28:17   yeah I know what the heck is that about [TS]

00:28:19   that was that was that was cool i like [TS]

00:28:22   that [TS]

00:28:23   clearly there's a horrible class system [TS]

00:28:25   on Gallifrey because better like the [TS]

00:28:27   time lords who have their little outfits [TS]

00:28:29   in their little hood since things on [TS]

00:28:31   their net and this is the stuff that the [TS]

00:28:32   time surface everybody else has got like [TS]

00:28:34   robes and is out in the dirt running [TS]

00:28:37   around at the time presents i think [TS]

00:28:38   those are the Gallifrey ends right there [TS]

00:28:40   not Time Lords there the because the [TS]

00:28:42   other the time presents you got a [TS]

00:28:44   ten-time service and maybe we'll find [TS]

00:28:46   out in a in a future episode [TS]

00:28:48   maybe when they find out I i'm really [TS]

00:28:51   looking forward to an episode that's [TS]

00:28:52   entirely about the social hierarchy of [TS]

00:28:54   Gallifrey [TS]

00:28:56   oh I think they did that in the tom [TS]

00:28:59   baker and it was really boring trade [TS]

00:29:02   negotiations Jason oh yeah as exciting [TS]

00:29:04   as trading home and that's that's what I [TS]

00:29:07   was afraid they were going there with a [TS]

00:29:08   Saigon you guys sit down and negotiate [TS]

00:29:10   something like oh I don't call them the [TS]

00:29:13   Trade Federation here that would be [TS]

00:29:14   really bad but instead they liked left [TS]

00:29:17   me like see we have a thing we gotta go [TS]

00:29:19   to now so you guys just work it out and [TS]

00:29:20   then we didn't see them again like we're [TS]

00:29:22   dropping that plot now we're done it's [TS]

00:29:24   done let's see what else what else to [TS]

00:29:27   talk about here i mean i thought it was [TS]

00:29:28   a fun i thought it was a funny episode [TS]

00:29:30   i'm looking forward to actually seeing [TS]

00:29:31   it in 3d which I'm going to see on [TS]

00:29:33   monday i'm just because i have been a [TS]

00:29:35   headache will it give me but I'm gonna [TS]

00:29:37   give it a go there were a few moments [TS]

00:29:40   where I was like that's that's there to [TS]

00:29:42   be i bet that spectacular in 3d but i [TS]

00:29:46   love how all the paintings have ios7 [TS]

00:29:48   clearly haha that's right that's exactly [TS]

00:29:53   it did kind of scare me with Gallifrey [TS]

00:29:57   Falls no more of their like oh yeah [TS]

00:30:00   we're gonna you know throw a Dalek out [TS]

00:30:02   of the painting as we emerge from it and [TS]

00:30:04   then it started to wonder I'm like are [TS]

00:30:05   we going to find ourselves a future [TS]

00:30:07   episode where Dalek suddenly start [TS]

00:30:09   pouring out of the paintings in the [TS]

00:30:11   National Archives what is it exactly [TS]

00:30:13   everybody started the Daleks because [TS]

00:30:15   they kept coming back like they think [TS]

00:30:16   there's like eight episodes with dogs in [TS]

00:30:18   the mood at the time or was it did not [TS]

00:30:20   work disaster terrible plan [TS]

00:30:22   what else to talk about in here we have [TS]

00:30:25   the big the strange museum the black the [TS]

00:30:30   black bag gallery of art black archive [TS]

00:30:33   where you cannot invitar started even [TS]

00:30:35   the TARDIS can go and so they do a very [TS]

00:30:37   clever thing which is they go like to [TS]

00:30:39   Gallifrey and then go through the [TS]

00:30:40   painting it's like all right I'll go [TS]

00:30:42   with that [TS]

00:30:43   ok let's cover the of the moment where [TS]

00:30:47   she just looks because can't you just [TS]

00:30:49   once walked by a fence without picking [TS]

00:30:51   up around like out David tendencies the [TS]

00:30:54   fuzzies like oh I'll put this on right [TS]

00:30:56   yeah they're tired i do really enjoy the [TS]

00:30:59   interactions between the two doctors [TS]

00:31:01   wouldn't have gotten that much of the [TS]

00:31:02   modern era except for a couple little [TS]

00:31:05   one off you know there's the père David [TS]

00:31:07   Rizzio one off but on [TS]

00:31:09   I really enjoyed the most likely they're [TS]

00:31:11   putting on the glasses [TS]

00:31:12   yeah your type of admiring each other's [TS]

00:31:14   glasses and we're making fun of each [TS]

00:31:16   other for wearing with Sam shoes [TS]

00:31:18   yeah right and the you know at the end [TS]

00:31:23   where they're doing the negotiation [TS]

00:31:24   thing they both put their feet up on the [TS]

00:31:25   table and everything that they do a nice [TS]

00:31:27   job of of the again you have characters [TS]

00:31:30   you have actors playing two characters [TS]

00:31:33   who are the same character but also not [TS]

00:31:35   the same character which is always [TS]

00:31:37   interesting to watch when you put them [TS]

00:31:39   in a room together especially when you [TS]

00:31:40   have you know someone like the doctor [TS]

00:31:42   who's supposed to be so brilliant [TS]

00:31:45   it's interesting to see to note these [TS]

00:31:47   similarities and the differences in [TS]

00:31:49   terms of how they portray them they [TS]

00:31:51   would they're a great combination really [TS]

00:31:54   funny I I felt in some ways this is a [TS]

00:31:56   Steven Moffat tribute to the the classic [TS]

00:31:58   TV episode the three doctors because [TS]

00:32:00   it's the same it's a very similar [TS]

00:32:02   dynamic where you got the current doctor [TS]

00:32:03   and the most recent doctor and they have [TS]

00:32:06   a little bit of a sparring relationship [TS]

00:32:08   in fact right down to the fact that [TS]

00:32:09   Patrick Troughton and the three doctor [TS]

00:32:10   says exactly what David Tennant says [TS]

00:32:12   which is you've redecorated [TS]

00:32:14   I don't like it Anna and then there's [TS]

00:32:16   the older previous doctor who thinks [TS]

00:32:18   that there's something wrong with both [TS]

00:32:20   of them which is William Hartnell and [TS]

00:32:21   mrs. John heard and so it is a little [TS]

00:32:24   bit of that same sort of like that was [TS]

00:32:25   that was pretty good dynamic let's do [TS]

00:32:28   that again and it was that was that was [TS]

00:32:30   a lot of fun and those two guys together [TS]

00:32:32   yeah they were that they were great i [TS]

00:32:34   have to say somebody who really loves [TS]

00:32:36   loves loves the the david tennant era it [TS]

00:32:38   was so great to have David Tennant back [TS]

00:32:40   as the doctor for a little while and get [TS]

00:32:42   some new scenes including having his [TS]

00:32:44   clothing line be exactly the same so we [TS]

00:32:45   can once again say the last thing we [TS]

00:32:47   ever heard the tenth doctor says I don't [TS]

00:32:49   want to go because he says it again but [TS]

00:32:51   it was great to see him and have and [TS]

00:32:53   when I talk about the pacing earlier one [TS]

00:32:55   of the things i liked is we got that [TS]

00:32:57   chunk of david tennant's little [TS]

00:32:58   adventure before the plot came in before [TS]

00:33:01   the mat smith stuff Karen so we got a [TS]

00:33:03   little like many little glimpse into an [TS]

00:33:06   unseen Tenth Doctor adventure and got to [TS]

00:33:08   see your old friend again which is part [TS]

00:33:10   of what this is episode is trying to do [TS]

00:33:12   so that was great to love seeing him [TS]

00:33:16   kind of pop in I know where I love david [TS]

00:33:18   tennant's so much and his humor [TS]

00:33:20   again like you think that it's sort of [TS]

00:33:23   in my memory I seem to remember David [TS]

00:33:25   Tennant and matt smith being sort of [TS]

00:33:26   similarly played doctors and then when [TS]

00:33:28   you see them actually face-to-face you [TS]

00:33:30   like no David Tennant has this wonderful [TS]

00:33:32   sort of subset of mannerisms and and [TS]

00:33:35   witticisms and jokes that I was like God [TS]

00:33:37   forgot that i missed you so much right [TS]

00:33:40   now but he's got it I had this argument [TS]

00:33:42   with people when I think he matt smith [TS]

00:33:44   first came on its like the thing about [TS]

00:33:45   Matt's the 11th doctor said he's a [TS]

00:33:47   little more alien and a little more [TS]

00:33:49   wacky then then David Tennant the tenth [TS]

00:33:53   doctors a little more charming right he [TS]

00:33:55   doesn't think at the end to worry kisses [TS]

00:33:56   Clara's hand and then kind of like winks [TS]

00:33:58   at the 11th doctor you know he's got [TS]

00:34:00   there both you know they're both [TS]

00:34:01   handsome men whatever but they're you [TS]

00:34:03   know they're there are they take it in [TS]

00:34:04   slightly different directions in terms [TS]

00:34:06   of how they deal with other people where [TS]

00:34:08   you know the mat smith character right [TS]

00:34:10   from like fish fingers and custard is [TS]

00:34:11   kind of gawky and bizarre and and David [TS]

00:34:15   handle on the other hand has a sort of [TS]

00:34:16   self-assured smoothness to him [TS]

00:34:20   yeah yeah it's definitely he can still [TS]

00:34:24   do it [TS]

00:34:24   I mean that was that was think it's only [TS]

00:34:25   been three or four years right and and [TS]

00:34:28   so of course you can but it was great to [TS]

00:34:29   be reminded like he's still still got it [TS]

00:34:32   he can still do that they apparently on [TS]

00:34:33   the set they were joking they went to [TS]

00:34:35   Steven Moffat while they were shooting [TS]

00:34:36   and knowing that this wasn't a real [TS]

00:34:37   possibility but they that Matt Smith and [TS]

00:34:40   David Tennant went to Steven Moffat and [TS]

00:34:41   said we got an idea for you the next [TS]

00:34:43   series [TS]

00:34:44   let's do you know four episodes with me [TS]

00:34:47   at four episodes with him and then you [TS]

00:34:51   know four episodes were work together [TS]

00:34:52   just do that and and and and it's just [TS]

00:34:57   like all you know that would be stoned [TS]

00:34:59   Stephen off its head explode that would [TS]

00:35:01   be great [TS]

00:35:02   that would be great yeah speaking [TS]

00:35:04   speaking events and adventures with how [TS]

00:35:06   do you think the night of the doctor fit [TS]

00:35:09   in with all this the the palm against [TS]

00:35:12   guising fall again appear yes I was [TS]

00:35:15   delightfully I mean just because it i [TS]

00:35:17   was glad that it had not been spoiled [TS]

00:35:19   for me so that when you like you know [TS]

00:35:22   i-i've done again either i've actually [TS]

00:35:24   never seen the doctor who movie but I I [TS]

00:35:27   knew enough about it to know you know [TS]

00:35:29   who he was and things like that and [TS]

00:35:30   anyone else and not watch it has [TS]

00:35:33   apparently [TS]

00:35:33   why you have actually began in other [TS]

00:35:35   roles masses you know smart familiar [TS]

00:35:37   with him as an actor but it is really [TS]

00:35:40   funny to you know see him a you're not [TS]

00:35:44   the doctor you're expecting [TS]

00:35:45   yes good punch and there was there was [TS]

00:35:49   probably my favorite moment and again he [TS]

00:35:50   was like oh my calendar because i think [TS]

00:35:54   it was a it went live just as my kids [TS]

00:35:57   get on the school bus one morning and i [TS]

00:36:00   just had dental you know what I'm gonna [TS]

00:36:02   watch this [TS]

00:36:02   I don't care because I don't want it [TS]

00:36:04   spoiled and Susie pop music I'm the [TS]

00:36:09   doctor but not when you're expecting [TS]

00:36:10   like ah i was i was just up and making [TS]

00:36:14   tea and in at you know six thirty in the [TS]

00:36:16   morning and there was a tweet that was [TS]

00:36:18   just like they posted the night of the [TS]

00:36:20   doctor and so I got to see it without [TS]

00:36:21   even seeing Paul McGann anywhere and I [TS]

00:36:24   was sitting there thinking come on Paul [TS]

00:36:26   McGann publication it's probably get [TS]

00:36:28   yeah and you know he is that TV movie [TS]

00:36:31   isn't isn't good i like to have this [TS]

00:36:33   that that that short redeemed him and we [TS]

00:36:35   got to see him in a and he's good he's a [TS]

00:36:37   good actor he's great in the audios and [TS]

00:36:40   so to get him a little more screen time [TS]

00:36:41   and I like how it links it in it says [TS]

00:36:43   this is what happened with the doctor is [TS]

00:36:45   that Paul McGann got kind of pulled into [TS]

00:36:47   the time war but refused and said no I'm [TS]

00:36:50   gonna just a minister to people on the [TS]

00:36:52   sidelines and then at some point [TS]

00:36:55   what happened is it got to the point was [TS]

00:36:57   what I watching today right before the [TS]

00:36:58   the new episode was on was like it got [TS]

00:37:00   so bad that not only couldn't he save [TS]

00:37:02   the woman on the spaceship but she was [TS]

00:37:05   willing to sacrifice her own life just [TS]

00:37:07   to kill a Time Lord because they had [TS]

00:37:09   that was that bad and that's the thing [TS]

00:37:12   that precipitates him being like all [TS]

00:37:13   right I got to do something different i [TS]

00:37:15   can't ignore this anymore and that makes [TS]

00:37:17   the John Hurt incarnations we get to see [TS]

00:37:19   sort of where he came from and that he [TS]

00:37:21   was young right they used footage of [TS]

00:37:23   john hurt from like the late seventies [TS]

00:37:24   early eighties in that reflection at the [TS]

00:37:26   very end to imply that he you know when [TS]

00:37:28   we see him in India the doctor he has [TS]

00:37:31   had a long life fighting the time war [TS]

00:37:33   and we're catching him at kind of [TS]

00:37:36   exhausted at the very end the thing [TS]

00:37:38   where they the the sisterhood gives him [TS]

00:37:41   the potion and says yeah because he [TS]

00:37:44   points out that they have the secret too [TS]

00:37:47   eternal boredom or eternal is funny and [TS]

00:37:50   I'm kind of wondering if that's gonna [TS]

00:37:52   tie in with oh wow he now has more [TS]

00:37:54   regeneration because now he has eternal [TS]

00:37:56   life [TS]

00:37:57   I don't know yeah that's a better brain [TS]

00:38:00   of morbius reference from the seventies [TS]

00:38:01   but you know I whether whether I don't [TS]

00:38:03   think that's I don't think I'm gonna tie [TS]

00:38:05   into a way minisode but it did it did [TS]

00:38:08   sort of plant the seed that there are [TS]

00:38:10   lots of different ways to to do to do [TS]

00:38:13   regenerations but I was it was a good [TS]

00:38:14   reference i actually thought one of the [TS]

00:38:16   funniest things in there is when they [TS]

00:38:17   say you have full minutes to live [TS]

00:38:19   he said that's ages anyone for chest [TS]

00:38:21   bring me knitting very very funny i do [TS]

00:38:27   want to make a mention of from the the [TS]

00:38:29   day of the doctor the three charges with [TS]

00:38:32   their various different yeah thats [TS]

00:38:35   something yeah we have though which one [TS]

00:38:36   of them is my it's the one that had the [TS]

00:38:38   crab cakes yeah dude [TS]

00:38:39   although he laughs because it's like I'm [TS]

00:38:41   kidding i know of course which one is [TS]

00:38:43   mine is like which one of mine rolleyes [TS]

00:38:45   and then often goes yeah that was a that [TS]

00:38:48   was a nice moment that you know makes [TS]

00:38:49   fans happy to see all the all the many [TS]

00:38:51   many TARDISes and the interiors bumping [TS]

00:38:54   around through the different interiors [TS]

00:38:56   and different the circle things i love [TS]

00:38:57   the circle things with a 40 ideal know [TS]

00:39:00   that was really that was really cool [TS]

00:39:02   have a flash through them to that it was [TS]

00:39:04   like you know what you know again [TS]

00:39:06   hand-waving explanation of like what [TS]

00:39:08   does it look like this one and then that [TS]

00:39:09   one and then this one is like back it [TS]

00:39:10   started doing a thing [TS]

00:39:12   whatever let's move on but if we got to [TS]

00:39:14   see them all that I also loved the the [TS]

00:39:16   line you know you can't trust the [TS]

00:39:19   Americans haven't you seen the movies [TS]

00:39:20   yeah and that's a nice little big guess [TS]

00:39:23   what would they do with time travel [TS]

00:39:24   yes ya can't be allowed we should also [TS]

00:39:27   mention that one of the things the BBC [TS]

00:39:28   posted today was a 30-minute long comedy [TS]

00:39:32   movie written and directed by peter [TS]

00:39:34   davison it's on bbc's website will put [TS]

00:39:36   it in the show notes [TS]

00:39:38   it it's hilarious and the entire plot of [TS]

00:39:40   it is it's called the five ish doctors [TS]

00:39:42   reunion or reboot the five ish doctors [TS]

00:39:45   reboot and it's the plot is Peter [TS]

00:39:48   Davison Colin Baker sylvester mccoy [TS]

00:39:50   occasionally paul mcgann and the [TS]

00:39:54   voicemail of Tom Baker [TS]

00:39:56   are are desperately trying to get in the [TS]

00:40:00   50th anniversary in some way shape or [TS]

00:40:04   form and uh the and it's very funny and [TS]

00:40:08   there is actually something interesting [TS]

00:40:09   at the end you're like huh [TS]

00:40:11   could that be them hidden away we'll [TS]

00:40:13   we'll never know but it's worth watching [TS]

00:40:15   if you liked especially old doctor who [TS]

00:40:18   at all because it's it's it's a very [TS]

00:40:19   funny bit and there are a lot of good [TS]

00:40:21   cameos in it there's a great bit with [TS]

00:40:23   john barrowman in it and it's worth [TS]

00:40:26   watching it's very very funny and I [TS]

00:40:29   think my favorite line in the entire [TS]

00:40:30   thing that's probably when colin baker [TS]

00:40:32   at some point says to Sylvester McCoy [TS]

00:40:34   what you're in The Hobbit why aren't you [TS]

00:40:36   talking about that because i won't shut [TS]

00:40:39   up about being in the hobbit so I make [TS]

00:40:43   my favorite line and I won't spoil [TS]

00:40:45   anything about it but my favorite line [TS]

00:40:46   would be Moffat calling his secretary [TS]

00:40:48   and saying make sure I'm not disturbed [TS]

00:40:50   to the rescue [TS]

00:40:51   yes yes yes after getting off getting [TS]

00:40:54   another with yet another voicemail from [TS]

00:40:56   peter davison asking just making you [TS]

00:40:59   aware that he's available for the 50th [TS]

00:41:01   anniversary if they would like to cast [TS]

00:41:03   him in something very very funny but [TS]

00:41:06   it's on the BBC website it's not a even [TS]

00:41:08   a side project thing it's like done by [TS]

00:41:11   the BBC with Peter Davison and gave [TS]

00:41:14   attendance and briefly and david [TS]

00:41:16   tennant's wife who's Peter Davison's [TS]

00:41:18   daughter isn't it briefly and it's very [TS]

00:41:20   funny worth watching and the voicemail [TS]

00:41:23   of Tom Baker is it it's true there's [TS]

00:41:26   that there's a five doctors joke it [TS]

00:41:27   actually which is fantastic so never [TS]

00:41:31   before will you laughs at the nokia [TS]

00:41:33   ringtone generic nokia ringtone as you [TS]

00:41:36   will laugh in that in that episode so [TS]

00:41:38   all right well what have we left behind [TS]

00:41:41   anything else we wanna know that we [TS]

00:41:43   haven't covered that we should talk [TS]

00:41:44   about about this episode is it Christmas [TS]

00:41:47   yet [TS]

00:41:47   oh man it's closed and soon according to [TS]

00:41:51   the malls yes very very close and [TS]

00:41:54   there'll be another episode we will see [TS]

00:41:56   there was a little teaser at the end of [TS]

00:41:58   this which just showed many you know it [TS]

00:42:01   showed weeping angels and Daleks and [TS]

00:42:03   cyber men and silence and said you know [TS]

00:42:07   this what's the name of this planet [TS]

00:42:09   Mandalore and silence will fall and that [TS]

00:42:12   was the end so it's the Steven Moffat [TS]

00:42:14   tries to wrap up all of his dangling [TS]

00:42:16   plot threads and sent Matt Smith off in [TS]

00:42:19   a little more than a month but that was [TS]

00:42:21   all that was really in it that was not [TS]

00:42:24   what the announcer said there wasn't a [TS]

00:42:25   Steven Moffat will now attending tested [TS]

00:42:27   that would be good [TS]

00:42:29   the doctor will return in Steven Moffat [TS]

00:42:33   yes anything else [TS]

00:42:36   no I'm just ready to watch it again [TS]

00:42:40   yeah yeah I'm gonna watch it is you know [TS]
