Top Four

Top Four 9: Christmas Music

00:00:00   this is a very special top four because

00:00:02   we have I'm Mike Anna Deena we have

00:00:05   another couple it's a double date

00:00:07   podcast yes oh yeah 2016 you're a double

00:00:12   date podcasting that's right that's

00:00:13   where it's all about kids don't watch

00:00:16   movies with your friends don't go out

00:00:18   for drinks anymore just sit at home eat

00:00:21   some steak and sit in recliners and

00:00:23   podcast yeah that's what the world can't

00:00:25   see is that we're like in recline the

00:00:26   seats right now recording shows so TIFF

00:00:30   what is our topic this evening all right

00:00:32   so our topic after much deliberation and

00:00:36   a one Twitter request we the audience we

00:00:43   would do top four Christmas songs we're

00:00:46   going theme the last couple episodes

00:00:48   first we had our Halloween candy then we

00:00:51   had our takeout food for Thanksgiving

00:00:52   and now we're going to be doing our top

00:00:54   four Christmas songs & Christmas songs

00:00:56   are kind of diverse here because there

00:00:58   are lots of different versions of

00:01:00   Christmas songs and as we all know is

00:01:02   especially some of the old favorites

00:01:04   some versions are so so bad and other

00:01:06   versions are really pretty great so I'm

00:01:09   kind of excited to hear Mike's list

00:01:11   apparently so do you want me to do I

00:01:13   don't think mark was prepared alright so

00:01:15   in number four for me is so I've picked

00:01:18   the song that everybody knows but a

00:01:20   specific version mm-hmm so the song is

00:01:23   it's beginning to look a lot like

00:01:24   Christmas but it's the Michael Buble

00:01:27   version Michael Buble in my family over

00:01:30   like the last few years Michael Buble at

00:01:32   Christmas has become a bit of a

00:01:34   tradition thing like it's over multiple

00:01:37   presents like I bought my mom tickets to

00:01:38   see him for a Christmas gift one year

00:01:40   and then bought her a CD is cuz I you

00:01:43   know we weren't gonna see him on

00:01:44   Christmas Day so I put like the tickets

00:01:46   inside of a CD and now every year like

00:01:48   another Michael Buble album cuz he

00:01:50   releases Christmas albums every year

00:01:52   because he is a marketing genius and

00:01:54   they just keep appearing more and more

00:01:56   in the house and I love this song but I

00:01:59   do really really love his version of

00:02:00   this song

00:02:02   ah his voice is undeniable I love

00:02:06   Michael Buble good

00:02:08   you can't deny that's his voice is gonna

00:02:09   clean this is very Buble mm-hmm that's

00:02:19   pretty good

00:02:20   this is your number four it's mine

00:02:22   before cuz I love this song like I just

00:02:24   love this song it's one of my favorite

00:02:25   traditional Christmas songs but I love

00:02:27   his version of us it is very and he's

00:02:31   very handsome he is very handsome

00:02:35   alright that's a pretty traditional pic

00:02:37   yeah yeah I wanted to have one

00:02:39   traditional because the rest of them

00:02:40   then they're not traditional okay so I

00:02:43   wonder like a traditional Christmas song

00:02:45   well does anyone else have any

00:02:45   traditional Christmas songs that they're

00:02:47   throwing out there what do you mean by

00:02:49   traditional this is like a classic right

00:02:51   okay so the hills that Christmas songs

00:02:53   come like from various decades and

00:02:56   they've all become classics yeah well so

00:02:58   this one like so this song like that is

00:03:01   a Michael bublĂ©'s version of a song

00:03:03   that is super old like everyone's done

00:03:05   that so basically all classic is like

00:03:09   right so I have a few of those actually

00:03:11   this is Adina by the way for anybody

00:03:14   who's wondering who this is podcaster

00:03:18   well I feel bad to go from mine because

00:03:21   I have a few traditional in my top four

00:03:24   and yeah okay I'll go with my first pick

00:03:28   which is my four and that's I feel quite

00:03:32   bad about this one for some reason but

00:03:34   it's Santa Baby Earth sake

00:03:41   oh the original there she is she's right

00:03:44   there right in front so let's listen up

00:03:47   like Santa this is a good pic I would

00:03:56   not have guessed this pick for you I

00:03:57   would not have guessed this I just loved

00:04:00   the shameless request for expensive

00:04:03   gifts and in my mind

00:04:08   and in my mind it's this type of Marilyn

00:04:11   Monroe lady who's super hot and but

00:04:14   talks in a baby voice well obviously and

00:04:16   it's just I love it

00:04:18   I just find it for Christmas requests

00:04:23   for expensive gifts and sexy yeah it's

00:04:30   just a wholesome wholesome I like it

00:04:34   that was a surprise Adina awesome all

00:04:37   right my number four is Christmas by

00:04:40   Blues Traveler I like the songs just

00:04:43   called Christmas is that it didn't even

00:04:45   bother it is they they just didn't even

00:04:47   care there's like a Christmas niche the

00:04:49   Christmas song I made so you will buy it

00:04:51   at Christmas to fish have any Christmas

00:04:53   songs I don't think so

00:04:55   I like it cause it's super wordy okay

00:05:00   this is pretty good you know that songs

00:05:04   do when it's is from like what years is

00:05:12   we're cuz this is sound like Christmas

00:05:15   for me

00:05:15   no no soul says Christmas in it yeah I

00:05:19   think maybe I like it because it sounds

00:05:21   just like Blues Traveler and non lady

00:05:23   Christmas yeah I don't know Blues

00:05:24   Traveler they all sound like this right

00:05:27   90's band yeah you probably know that

00:05:29   cover those songs

00:05:30   it sounds playing it sounds a little

00:05:32   better naked ladies ish yep

00:05:34   say narrow it

00:05:44   yeah that is the Christmas there we go

00:05:47   sleigh bells in there that's what you

00:05:50   need that that's what makes it great oh

00:05:52   and I like it because it's like a

00:05:53   regular song it's pretty upbeat mm-hmm

00:05:57   got some rockin elements to it so that

00:06:03   you feel it's Christmas when you hear it

00:06:04   I do now so I'm not a big fan of

00:06:09   Christmas music I really don't care so I

00:06:13   have a whole bunch of Christmas songs

00:06:14   that are done by people like I have an

00:06:18   album called like punk rock Christmas or

00:06:21   something it just it's totally it's not

00:06:24   really Christmas but it's songs and

00:06:27   music that I like doing Christmas songs

00:06:29   or and I especially love the original

00:06:31   Christmas songs that are new each year I

00:06:33   always always seek those out so like on

00:06:35   that like this isn't in my list but

00:06:37   there is a song it's a horrible ballad

00:06:39   by a band called East 17 you will not

00:06:41   know this and it's the impostor for

00:06:48   Christmas songs it doesn't say anything

00:06:51   about Christmas winter or anything but

00:06:53   somehow it got launched in 1994 I have

00:06:56   this noted say another day it's the name

00:06:59   of the song and basically the reason

00:07:00   this is a Christmas song is in the UK

00:07:03   there is like a tradition of Christmas

00:07:05   number one like that whatever song is

00:07:07   number one at Christmases I could soup a

00:07:09   big deal

00:07:10   so you can end up with songs that were

00:07:12   just released in late December become

00:07:15   Christmas songs because they were

00:07:17   Christmas number ones and so if that's a

00:07:19   lot like what Love Actually is about

00:07:20   right kind of yeah cuz it love actually

00:07:22   like so that's the whole idea I he

00:07:24   continues to make money forever because

00:07:26   if you have a song it's not one of

00:07:27   Christmas it's always on compilations

00:07:29   but this song has nothing to do with

00:07:31   Christmas

00:07:31   at all it's kind of like a nationwide

00:07:33   American Idol but for Christmas songs

00:07:35   yeah well now like X Factor is planned

00:07:38   to get the Christmas number one it's

00:07:44   horrific but it made it to no Christmas

00:07:47   number one right it was horrific when

00:07:48   you listen to it now in a few countries

00:07:50   including yours I assume for that no

00:07:53   these do down here when is this from the

00:07:57   nine

00:07:58   yeah you could tell by those hat yeah

00:08:00   and the duh I think they're all dressed

00:08:02   in white I'm gonna get out so good

00:08:04   touching themselves or singing this mic

00:08:12   is lip-syncing right now

00:08:26   there's a pickup you know mention of

00:08:42   Christmas winter anything and this is on

00:08:45   your list Edina

00:08:46   it's my imposter song in the way cuz it

00:08:50   we're googling song for songs today

00:08:53   lists and compilations this actually

00:08:56   features a long a lot of very well-known

00:08:58   it's Christmas songs this is one of the

00:09:00   biggest like this is one of the biggest

00:09:02   non Christmas songs that because this

00:09:05   was number one for like I'm like two

00:09:07   months after Christmas and it comes back

00:09:09   every Christmas yep what would make

00:09:12   somebody want to listen to that more

00:09:13   than once

00:09:14   nostalgia totally nostalgia like cuz

00:09:18   they're laughing that old right well the

00:09:20   nineties it's old enough yeah yes but

00:09:23   like when it was new what many people

00:09:25   want to listen to it enough to make it a

00:09:26   classic this was the style of music in

00:09:28   UK at the time like boy band power

00:09:30   ballads they're something we're in the

00:09:32   water or something I mean Lauren mm-hmm

00:09:34   like Christmas in the UK fills that

00:09:38   everything bad and Keach is actually

00:09:41   embraced like the ugly sweaters bad

00:09:43   music it's just Christmas yeah we go for

00:09:46   terrible traditions from two thousand

00:09:51   nineteen ninety-seven so yeah that fits

00:09:53   of a ninety song as well because that

00:09:54   was very like it had that like that

00:09:57   isn't the son of an American money song

00:09:59   and he's seventeen is a UK ninety song

00:10:01   yeah I think I'm gonna stick with

00:10:02   America on that one yeah I think you

00:10:04   should yeah I mean I hate to tell you

00:10:05   that there's there's been some decades

00:10:07   where the where the US was woefully

00:10:09   behind other countries in quality of

00:10:11   music but I'm pretty sure that in this

00:10:13   instance I think I think we were all

00:10:17   right yeah compared to at least the UK

00:10:19   in the 90s all right Marco what's your

00:10:21   number for mister prepared over there

00:10:23   with nothing I have nothing my my list

00:10:26   includes one entry and it is number four

00:10:34   and it is the Metallica Carole the

00:10:37   Belles thing ah hello this is me from

00:10:43   the future while editing this I learned

00:10:45   that Metallica actually had nothing to

00:10:46   do with this song and it's a common

00:10:47   mistake

00:10:48   most likely propagated by miss tagged

00:10:50   mp3s from the Napster days this is

00:10:52   actually just trans-siberian Orchestra

00:10:54   entitled Christmas Eve

00:10:55   Sarajevo 1224

00:11:00   you're only really brought one song yeah

00:11:03   Oh Micah you're lucky we're here yeah I

00:11:06   don't think we would've done this topic

00:11:08   because I don't you know it it's not

00:11:11   that I hate Christmas or anything I just

00:11:13   I don't get that into Christmas songs

00:11:16   because almost all of them just get so

00:11:20   grossly overplayed into the ground that

00:11:24   and I've heard them all like hundreds of

00:11:25   times so much so that I just don't I

00:11:28   don't really feel anything about any of

00:11:30   them anymore yeah there is no type of

00:11:32   music like Christmas music because

00:11:33   there's no music that gets played every

00:11:36   year a specific time a specific time

00:11:38   always forever to use like a wintry

00:11:41   metaphor it's like a snowball effect

00:11:42   because just we have all of these songs

00:11:45   and more of them get added over time and

00:11:47   there's just more and more and more

00:11:48   Christmas music always always well and

00:11:51   maybe I think my problem is that at

00:11:53   least maybe this is just me being

00:11:56   isolated from the universe because I'm

00:11:57   just nerd but it seems like the the rate

00:12:00   at which Christmas songs could add it is

00:12:02   actually way too slow for me that every

00:12:04   year you hear like the same traditional

00:12:05   songs over and over again just with

00:12:07   somebody doing a different arrangement

00:12:08   of it maybe it at best but the actually

00:12:11   getting new Christmas songs is I think

00:12:14   it's still too rare to the point where

00:12:16   like that's why I can't enjoy he's like

00:12:18   oh great I hear someone else singing you

00:12:20   know Oh Christmas tree great like I who

00:12:22   cares I don't I don't really get that

00:12:24   into that you have like no nostalgia

00:12:25   mark oh well I have nostalgia for

00:12:28   different things

00:12:28   yeah I'm okay so I'm looking for this

00:12:30   this song here and I found an album

00:12:33   called

00:12:33   have yourself a heavy-metal Christmas

00:12:35   it's probably not a million albums

00:12:37   because and the reason only my number

00:12:39   four is like this is like when it came

00:12:41   out in the 90s when I was playing it on

00:12:43   winamp on my Athlon computer like it

00:12:47   like at that point it was really cool

00:12:50   it's like look at listen to this awesome

00:12:51   like Metallica kind of metal inspired

00:12:54   but at least Rock version of this Carole

00:12:57   the belt it's so cool sticking it to

00:12:59   Santa man exactly and and since then it

00:13:02   has slowly become popular enough to be

00:13:04   in every like grocery store Christmas

00:13:07   song playlist so now you just hear it

00:13:10   everywhere constantly it now just sounds

00:13:12   like an old 90 song that you're

00:13:14   too much and I like nineties music a lot

00:13:16   so for me to say I'm hearing it too much

00:13:18   that's really saying something

00:13:19   well I have to say my number three is a

00:13:21   Carol the bells song also I really like

00:13:23   Carol the bells but mine's by Moe is the

00:13:25   one I prefer the jam band Moe yeah they

00:13:29   did a Carol why do you like this and I

00:13:31   don't all right here's the movin by

00:13:38   flying car of the bells terrifying it is

00:13:40   time almost all a lot of my favorite

00:13:43   songs are like a little bit weird and

00:13:45   depressing I don't know why this songs

00:13:47   so scary but like it really freaks me

00:13:48   out because it just gets more and more

00:13:54   more of a time I don't like it it builds

00:13:56   too much there's something about it I

00:13:57   just always really liked it so I could

00:13:59   not have it on my list this is a little

00:14:05   less scary well cuz Moe is a pretty low

00:14:08   key band like among the other among the

00:14:10   jam bands but that's saying a lot like

00:14:12   even among jam bands they're pretty

00:14:13   low-key so I wouldn't expect a lot of

00:14:16   like you know energy from this - hm

00:14:24   yes you have to have Kerala bells

00:14:27   playing at some point right

00:14:28   I don't have the Metallica when to play

00:14:31   that's all right we have one song so

00:14:33   here fired yeah well look I'm doing us

00:14:37   all a favor because if all if all of us

00:14:39   had four or five songs that it would be

00:14:41   too long an episode and I think we

00:14:43   should let the guests shine tonight

00:14:45   that's why I prepared nothing not

00:14:46   because I'm a slacker who hates

00:14:48   Christmas music haha well already got

00:14:49   two of mine out of the way so Mike

00:14:51   you're up next

00:14:52   my number three is I think the probably

00:14:55   the best Christmas song of all time so

00:14:57   it's number three that makes sense yeah

00:14:58   it's not my favorite I think it's the

00:15:02   best which is lost Christmas by Wham

00:15:06   this is the best Christmas song ever

00:15:09   okay I had last Christmas on my lid on

00:15:12   my short list

00:15:13   not on my favorite list by Jimmy Eat

00:15:16   World and today I was looking up about

00:15:20   these Christmas songs and I had no idea

00:15:23   that wham wrote that song yep this is a

00:15:26   wham song is a beautiful video they're

00:15:28   on a skiing trip

00:15:29   I can't believe wham wrote this song

00:15:32   it's so good and didn't just cover it

00:15:34   but they actually like brothers versus

00:15:36   actually it was considering this one as

00:15:38   well and as I was listening to Christmas

00:15:41   compilations it started kind of like

00:15:43   falling a few places until it got out

00:15:45   the very last day how could it fall it

00:15:47   cuz surely only rise because the more

00:15:49   like you love the first time of the year

00:15:52   you actually hear it but then the more

00:15:54   you hear it becomes more annoying and I

00:15:56   I wrote down here that I always

00:15:58   associated with stores background music

00:16:02   at Christmas so it is everywhere this is

00:16:04   so good and it just gets annoying up

00:16:06   there point is this is the wham version

00:16:16   yeah

00:16:16   which to me is a little bit slow it is

00:16:18   Erin let me get you the Jimmy Eat World

00:16:20   version of Italy just ruin it they well

00:16:25   the band were like all their songs sound

00:16:27   about the same yeah and I I like them

00:16:29   for a while so it's like I like that

00:16:31   sound but they do also is unacceptable

00:16:34   this is like a Mexican party

00:16:40   yeah this sounds like Jimmy Eat World it

00:16:42   goes this is this makes me sad yeah it's

00:16:46   actually sent this making me not like

00:16:47   Jimmy Eat World anymore is actually the

00:16:50   thing is they haven't done enough to us

00:16:52   like I would have expected them to

00:16:54   change the song a lot more they really

00:16:57   kind of just covered it but comparing

00:16:59   that when to the WAM one no no the Wham

00:17:02   one is far superior in every single way

00:17:04   I agree all right Marco I wasn't

00:17:07   expecting that

00:17:09   honestly I wasn't either but that was

00:17:11   terrible oh well people they had so much

00:17:16   hot when they sang that song they really

00:17:18   meant it I do you know what's your

00:17:20   number three so my number three is super

00:17:25   classic it's Bing Crosby white Christmas

00:17:30   chase I was actually considering for

00:17:33   this one the Eagles please come home for

00:17:35   Christmas as well for number three but

00:17:37   then going for everything I downgraded

00:17:39   that one and stuck with Bing Crosby

00:17:43   because it's just one of those songs

00:17:47   that feels like a fairy tale Christmas

00:17:50   and having seen New Year for the very

00:17:52   first time now and the CDs were superbly

00:17:56   decorated it kind of made me feel like

00:17:59   in a fairy tale movie that you see the

00:18:01   Christmas and this song is kind of like

00:18:04   that and I we probably heard it

00:18:06   somewhere on the street being played and

00:18:08   and also I'm I'm my I'm a firm belief

00:18:13   that the 50s type of music makes for the

00:18:16   best type of Christmas music there's a

00:18:19   background in the home so I thought that

00:18:21   deserves my third place yeah I agree

00:18:24   yeah yeah this is a solid but especially

00:18:27   the way it starts to

00:18:29   like velvet whose picture dad the

00:18:33   slippers it is a bit slow is there a

00:18:44   very few like songs that have become

00:18:47   such a thing that the white Christmas is

00:18:48   a thing and it's like mostly import to

00:18:51   this song because you just know this

00:18:52   song everybody knows this song

00:18:54   especially that part yeah I'm feeling so

00:19:01   festive now so so far all of your pics

00:19:05   have been that both of you have been

00:19:06   like kind of slow like the traditional

00:19:10   musics where it costs in half the

00:19:12   Hangout oh it's about to change it'll go

00:19:15   up a notch but if picked a mellow jam

00:19:18   band yep it was carol of the bells it's

00:19:21   right it was the most mellowed version

00:19:23   of that song I've ever heard whatever

00:19:25   and I like Moe and I still that was

00:19:27   boring all right well then speaking it

00:19:29   let's get the boring finished with

00:19:31   because my number two Christmas song is

00:19:34   skating by Norman brown which is

00:19:39   actually a walnut patinas song the

00:19:43   peanuts Christmas is totally like in my

00:19:47   wheelhouse that was like when I grew up

00:19:49   with it

00:19:52   and it's just instrumental the whole

00:19:54   thing I like it so I have to fully

00:19:56   instrumental songs on my layout that's

00:19:59   very jazzy yeah I don't know this just

00:20:03   the sound of it feels Christmasy to me

00:20:05   oh there's some sketches

00:20:08   yes scatting its vocal instrumentals yep

00:20:10   yeah I like this I like the kind of like

00:20:13   jazzy edginess yeah and it's a pretty

00:20:17   long song it's over four minutes it's

00:20:20   about four minutes long but practically

00:20:23   jam bam it is oh my god whoo ant what

00:20:26   have I become

00:20:27   before we leave the slow section though

00:20:30   I did so like the classic section and

00:20:32   then the way the rest of your list looks

00:20:34   like it's probably more classic stuff I

00:20:35   had to give a shout out for Jingle Bell

00:20:37   Rock whilst I didn't want to put it in

00:20:40   my top four is my next two songs I love

00:20:43   them so much and I don't think many of

00:20:45   the people will pick them jingle bell

00:20:47   rock is just so fantastic and home alone

00:20:49   you have a version of jingle bell rock

00:20:52   that you prefer Bobby Helms original

00:20:56   classic like this is one of those songs

00:21:05   that will never go get one sorry Marco

00:21:10   you like this phone it's forgettable

00:21:14   because I've heard it a million times

00:21:16   like I I can look back I can recognize

00:21:18   like all right as Christmas songs go I

00:21:21   guess this is okay it's a good one you

00:21:23   know but I just don't feel anything for

00:21:25   these songs

00:21:26   yeah I grieve you Indian I like that

00:21:28   it's weird that so many of the really

00:21:30   good songs come from a very specific

00:21:32   time period here well shoot well Deena

00:21:34   was mentioning Bing and I had a Bing

00:21:37   song on my short list but it's from a

00:21:39   movie that you guys haven't seen well

00:21:42   not from a movie but they play it in the

00:21:44   movie and that's why I like it do you

00:21:47   know this sure is this do you ever hear

00:21:52   this and in the UK this is a Christmas

00:21:59   it's feel like Christmas movie I've

00:22:03   never heard this before really yeah I

00:22:07   like this song for Christmas it makes me

00:22:09   smile it's an old Christmas song but

00:22:11   it's goofy is it a Hawaiian Christmas

00:22:13   song yeah yeah yeah he says like Merry

00:22:18   Christmas and in Hawaiian that would

00:22:21   they call their language I don't know

00:22:23   I'm sorry if I offended any other hues

00:22:27   ever than every show

00:22:32   I assume thats Merry Christmas

00:22:38   yeah maybe but I guess it's significant

00:22:41   because in National Lampoon's Christmas

00:22:42   vacation he has like this fantasy of

00:22:44   getting a pool for Christmas with like

00:22:47   his Christmas bonus and okay it's

00:22:49   playing during that but it's interesting

00:22:52   that he wrote that song right yeah I

00:22:54   don't did he write it stuck that that

00:22:58   was a song that was created then I mean

00:22:59   Hawaii and all that was so popular than

00:23:02   yeah I mean so you remember watching Mad

00:23:04   Men they were going to Hawaii and

00:23:05   experiencing like that was a huge cool

00:23:08   thing to do so he was just being cool

00:23:10   yeah obviously super cool yeah Hawaii's

00:23:13   super cool

00:23:14   but I wanted to throw that one out there

00:23:16   I always thought that was a really good

00:23:17   one is a good pic actually I quite like

00:23:19   that cuz that song is crazy

00:23:22   alright so what are we up to here before

00:23:25   we change the direction with mics first

00:23:30   two picks

00:23:32   I just want and just looking at my list

00:23:34   because it's super traditional it's

00:23:37   clear to me that Christmas means

00:23:38   different things for different people

00:23:40   and for me this Christmas means

00:23:43   tradition and tradition is repetitive

00:23:46   and it kindly gets optimized but doesn't

00:23:50   make huge lips and I think that's why

00:23:53   there are so many versions of the same

00:23:55   song done by so many things so yeah

00:24:00   that's my comment before we completely

00:24:02   change direction because I'm gonna stay

00:24:04   in the traditional area but but I have a

00:24:07   special mention a weird mention from

00:24:10   Romania just to make things fun special

00:24:12   requests by Mike yeah I wanted a weird

00:24:14   Romanian song so you're gonna get it

00:24:16   it's not weird it's different did you

00:24:18   just request it as pick a we remain we

00:24:21   remain as long as do you have a specific

00:24:22   one no I was like just pick one Apple

00:24:27   music let's see

00:24:28   so it's Andre and it's cold not the

00:24:32   Divis no you can spell that too right

00:24:34   yep you got that and oh a Pte alright so

00:24:38   what is this do you know what is this

00:24:39   called fairytale night basically okay

00:24:43   wait for it oh here we go this is

00:24:46   European from the two nineties 1999 okay

00:24:53   sounds like 9:00 tonight lang yeah this

00:24:56   is the most babe I love you so much

00:25:04   before it was cool yeah and the video is

00:25:08   just awesome is this music ever seeps

00:25:16   into the u.s. probably not but literally

00:25:19   that is Europe right so like ASA bass

00:25:22   was I think the closest we might have

00:25:23   gotten to that yeah like in popular yes

00:25:25   because that like I mean you can kind of

00:25:27   see how like that mirrors into this like

00:25:30   it's kind of like it you can see how you

00:25:32   can get from a sub bass or something

00:25:33   like that European music are they oh

00:25:36   look palek shirts there oh yeah

00:25:39   it's metallic stretch shirts they have

00:25:41   fun on the album so this is about

00:25:43   Christmas well they're basically the

00:25:47   video is with them dressed in lingerie

00:25:49   and a really young hot Santa also

00:25:53   dressed in them so you really like sexy

00:25:55   Christmas songs and they're like they're

00:25:57   like they're traditional sexy and I

00:26:01   think this band was like 16 at the time

00:26:04   and what the song is saying that oh my

00:26:06   god Santa you're so young and I

00:26:09   remembered they have their crimped hair

00:26:15   on the album cover yeah yeah does a

00:26:18   thing so yeah I thought you might enjoy

00:26:21   that one I like it

00:26:28   since I has a piercing his earrings and

00:26:32   piercings Santa you nasty that when you

00:26:42   were saying traditional Romanian song I

00:26:44   was picturing like old world like folk

00:26:48   folk comes on yet traditional Romanian I

00:26:55   just had a Romanian wind and that was

00:26:58   what I got thank you so much for yeah

00:29:10   Casper

00:29:11   alright so my number to pick I really

00:29:13   struggled with this and it's only my

00:29:15   number two because it's more recent

00:29:17   mm-hmm because I I think in of the time

00:29:20   this will become my favorite Christmas

00:29:22   song and it's one Christmas at a time by

00:29:25   Jonathan Coulton in John Mubarak oh

00:29:27   that's a good one I love that Christmas

00:29:29   album so my have it on my computer I

00:29:31   don't even have to search Apple music

00:29:33   because one of my favorite styles of

00:29:35   music is mailed us

00:29:37   I love mail Jewett's and there are not a

00:29:39   lot of like it opens the album doesn't

00:29:46   it it does yeah it's the name of the

00:29:48   album sports talk track yeah that's a

00:29:50   solid pick

00:29:53   as well I like this this song for a

00:29:56   bunch of reasons like I love it because

00:29:57   they sing together I love the sound of

00:29:58   two men singing together I don't know

00:30:00   why I just like that sound yeah they

00:30:02   have such great compliment in voices and

00:30:04   it also is good because it's got that

00:30:06   great chorus but also a bunch of comedy

00:30:09   as well yeah when they start talking and

00:30:11   making little jokes in the middle during

00:30:12   the song drum Roderick is proposing to

00:30:14   his girlfriend and they're talking about

00:30:17   it she seems like she doesn't want to

00:30:18   spend any time with him and he's like oh

00:30:20   don't open that small box right there I

00:30:22   just love that don't open that little

00:30:25   bugs this is such a good song like and I

00:30:35   love that album because it's so nice to

00:30:38   have like 10 or have many songs songs

00:30:41   there any other new Christmas songs that

00:30:43   I like and this is my favorite on the

00:30:46   album so I think as time goes on like I

00:30:48   will maybe bump this up to number one

00:30:51   but I just think it's such a just such a

00:30:53   solid song that's a really really good

00:30:56   pick I really like that song too and

00:30:59   that Christmas this at Christmas album

00:31:01   has been growing on me alright before

00:31:03   number ones I want to talk about all of

00:31:05   our leftover stuff before we do number

00:31:07   one so good I do okay so alright so

00:31:09   Adina you're number two back to the

00:31:12   traditional side of things is this one

00:31:14   also sexy traditional you all know it

00:31:18   but I just love it that's Chris Rhea

00:31:21   driving home for Christmas oh I hate

00:31:23   driving I can't stand this song oh I

00:31:27   just love it and I don't even have like

00:31:29   a specific reasoning I just because it's

00:31:32   very repetitive it's mostly his voice

00:31:33   which I just love and because it's like

00:31:37   the variety type I think it if it was

00:31:40   like Nicole Scherzinger or on x-factor

00:31:42   she was always describing this type of

00:31:44   voice is like hot chocolate butter

00:31:46   alright so you do like Christmas this

00:31:59   song is like it's a good song but for me

00:32:01   it becomes like an ear worm which is why

00:32:03   I can't stand it whose things this one

00:32:05   Chris

00:32:06   which is like says Chris Rea is it what

00:32:12   is that video I don't know it's like on

00:32:17   acid it's very descriptive

00:32:21   I have no I've never heard this song

00:32:22   before yes this is like a live version

00:32:27   of it yeah yeah like like I will not be

00:32:41   able to stop them so why is this your

00:32:45   number two it's I couldn't really

00:32:48   explain it much it just makes me feel

00:32:50   like Christmas is this another one of

00:32:53   those like UK know finding the people I

00:32:56   don't know no shows on this but this is

00:32:59   actually a Christmas song but I don't

00:33:02   know where he got no way he's from Chris

00:33:04   rare it sounds like the kind of song we

00:33:06   would have here but I've never heard it

00:33:08   before yeah I haven't either that's not

00:33:10   the best version but then again the

00:33:13   album version it's not too far but it's

00:33:18   not the greatest version of it I don't

00:33:20   like that song I'm also pointed to a

00:33:22   seal number two wait till you hear

00:33:24   number one yeah all right so before we

00:33:29   get to number ones I want to kind of

00:33:30   talk about the ones that didn't make it

00:33:32   yeah and for me one of the big ones I

00:33:35   want to talk about is the song river

00:33:37   which is written by Joni Mitchell I

00:33:41   believe it was on her album

00:33:49   but I really like the version sung by

00:33:52   Robert Downey jr. okay I'd like to hear

00:33:55   that

00:33:55   yes scenario did he do that it was on

00:33:58   Ally McBeal which is a TV show about a

00:34:00   whole bunch of lawyers yeah and I find I

00:34:02   really like Robert Downey jr. I think he

00:34:05   is up your street and so I just it's you

00:34:14   won't believe that this is him singing

00:34:17   cuz you don't think of him because now

00:34:19   he's like Iron Man right yep you know

00:34:23   this song it's actually kind of

00:34:25   depressing because you know it's Joni

00:34:27   Mitchell I know that like that tune

00:34:32   here comes I would not have imagined

00:34:44   that to be probably Downey jr.

00:34:48   to escape

00:34:53   it was too sad for Christmas it's really

00:34:56   sad it is why I didn't make it from not

00:34:58   even like Christmas eggs like lost

00:35:00   Christmas is a sad song but it's

00:35:02   Christmas sad

00:35:03   that's just like sad sad well it's Joni

00:35:04   Mitchell she's pretty sad yeah that's

00:35:06   pretty sad so but I think I prefer her

00:35:08   burgers and honestly I know it hers is

00:35:10   even more slow and sad no but it's like

00:35:12   I'd rather hear like like that like herb

00:35:13   that album the her blue album is like a

00:35:15   masterpiece yeah and that's just kind of

00:35:17   like a butchering of this thing I don't

00:35:19   know it's Robert Downey jr. and he has a

00:35:21   sexy voice but it's like if you're gonna

00:35:22   cover something from that album you you

00:35:25   better really like kill it like you got

00:35:27   like really go all out and do something

00:35:29   amazing and I just didn't sound amazing

00:35:31   enough to be a cover of that album you

00:35:33   know bring it for me it's about the

00:35:35   voice that's good but anyway it is so

00:35:38   much better it's different I think if he

00:35:41   wasn't now this weird movie star that's

00:35:43   like that makes this interesting I think

00:35:45   it would be less impressive I liked it

00:35:47   before it was interesting you want to

00:35:48   fight alright if I feel like really

00:35:49   great on a curve she's a movie star now

00:35:51   no I liked it when it was on Ally it's

00:35:54   really good I know they feel yeah McBeal

00:35:58   we don't even need anyway and alright so

00:36:02   that was my one I have a whole bunch of

00:36:04   other ones that you know I like like

00:36:07   more we were saying for much more modern

00:36:09   Christmas music that came out I mean I I

00:36:12   could probably list them but I don't

00:36:14   lumberjack Christmas ever hear that one

00:36:16   Oh bye um but hey how do you say that

00:36:18   guy's name suctions Sophie on Stevens

00:36:22   gun yes anyway he wrote that one I have

00:36:24   the holiday by Vampire Weekend

00:36:27   really that's a I love that song I've

00:36:30   never in fluid Christmas song but yeah

00:36:31   it totally is yeah that one's really got

00:36:33   a great big like that yeah I have a

00:36:37   raise the tree by Trent Babs dabs

00:36:41   you know I don't know who that is either

00:36:43   but it's a good song and and yeah and

00:36:48   together at Christmas by Moe I like that

00:36:50   one a lot Momo yeah that's amazing

00:36:53   I'd have miss is good Momo Christmas

00:36:56   deal dude when do you listen to mo and

00:36:58   Christmas really and one day I want to

00:37:03   give a huge huge shout out to my

00:37:05   favorite Christmas

00:37:06   album which is twisted Christmas by

00:37:09   Twisted Sister they have a Christmas

00:37:12   album and it is amazing because every

00:37:15   song sounds like we're not gonna take it

00:37:17   but it's all traditional Christmas songs

00:37:19   just them yelling come on I need to it's

00:37:22   exactly what you'd expect lately every

00:37:24   song sounds the same and it all just

00:37:25   sounds like Twisted Sister like it's

00:37:27   it's amazing this is oh come all ye

00:37:30   faithful it's like they didn't even

00:37:41   bother we know how to do that one song

00:37:44   we'll just put all the words to that

00:37:46   song so much

00:37:54   it's just like the way they sing it it

00:37:58   is this is let it snow you did this come

00:38:02   out pretty recently No

00:38:07   and people we were in college for them

00:38:10   that's pretty recent

00:38:13   just let it snow wait it's coming

00:38:33   come on

00:38:36   they got a you know twist it up we can

00:38:39   play guess what song this is how long

00:38:41   does hake

00:38:51   this they're just drunk yeah don't you

00:38:58   want to hear that again not really no

00:39:00   you do you'll hear it again tomorrow

00:39:01   morning I'll play that window makeup

00:39:02   that will wake me up so I have a I have

00:39:06   three that didn't make my list that went

00:39:09   to mention one of them is Jackson five

00:39:11   Santa Claus is coming to town

00:39:12   Wow it's like Jackson five FS

00:39:24   and then there's two other songs that I

00:39:27   thought were completely British songs

00:39:31   for Christmas but I heard one of them

00:39:34   here like I think yesterday maybe when

00:39:38   we were in Walmart

00:39:39   maybe I think it was wish it could be

00:39:42   Christmas everyday by wizard by the way

00:39:45   we took them to Walmart yep it was

00:39:47   awesome

00:39:47   it was everything we could have wished

00:39:48   he could be and so much more but lower

00:39:52   prices

00:40:16   and so this is like in Love Actually the

00:40:19   idea of like the one-hit wonder

00:40:21   Christmas that makes money forever this

00:40:23   is one of those songs like this is

00:40:25   basically all wizard alone for

00:40:34   and then I think this one was so

00:40:36   successful because it plays into every

00:40:38   child's dream of it being Christmas

00:40:39   everyday right and then the other one is

00:40:42   Merry Christmas everybody by Slade

00:40:53   that's the bit so like that is like just

00:40:55   a thing in the UK that one that one last

00:40:58   part and the guy whose name is naughty

00:41:01   holder that's his name he's known for

00:41:04   that that that it's Christmas can you

00:41:07   can you sing that for us Mike

00:41:08   no no if you want me to finish the rest

00:41:11   of my list that's there my my kind of

00:41:15   random pics I want to throw out there

00:41:16   before I give my number one in a moment

00:41:18   that's fair Deena do you have any others

00:41:21   yep you know I'm quite surprised that

00:41:23   you didn't mention anything from the

00:41:25   Beach Boys because I think they have a

00:41:26   Christmas song they do they have a

00:41:28   little same yeah I don't like oh yeah

00:41:30   cuz I know you're such a big they always

00:41:33   fan they are a summer band not Christmas

00:41:35   okay

00:41:36   they fly south for the winter yeah I

00:41:38   mean little Saint Nick is fine but I

00:41:40   don't I'm not a big fan of it it was

00:41:43   like they made most of the money in the

00:41:45   summer and they did something to do in

00:41:46   the winter so doing songs

00:41:50   California has Christmas too you know

00:41:54   now I'm like in it I love it but it

00:41:58   wouldn't make my got the Bell this also

00:42:07   sounds like all they're like

00:42:08   stereotypical songs yeah I know there

00:42:10   are deeper band than they say ah but

00:42:11   like this sounds just as like

00:42:14   stereotypical exam why I don't like this

00:42:17   as much cuz yeah Christmas songs are

00:42:19   like Christmas wasn't their thing so

00:42:22   they basically just took the surf in

00:42:24   songs and turn them into Christmas song

00:42:25   yeah just add some bells yeah it's not

00:42:29   their best work and it's kind of the

00:42:31   lowest of their work really it's kind of

00:42:33   like it's just like a sellout move

00:42:35   really it's kind of disappointing that

00:42:36   like as a family you don't want your

00:42:38   favorite band to do that nope you guys

00:42:40   are just trampling all over Adina's

00:42:41   dreams so that's just a regular day for

00:42:46   me yeah so the stuff that didn't make my

00:42:50   list first one is John Lennon and Yoko

00:42:54   happy Christmas I think this is so

00:42:57   powerful because the official title is

00:43:00   happy Christmas worries over and war is

00:43:04   over okay yeah it's like I just love it

00:43:07   more now in the context of everything

00:43:09   that's happening the world I finally get

00:43:11   why people are so loving in the 7th is

00:43:15   amazing

00:43:18   yeah

00:43:22   I have a band-aid version of this yeah

00:43:25   this son I like this one more

00:43:35   my other one is super sad but it's

00:43:39   Darlene love Christmas baby please come

00:43:42   home and it really reminds me a lot of a

00:43:46   song that's after laughter comes tears

00:43:49   it's in that vein if you know it but at

00:43:52   the same time on I like about it it's

00:43:54   that it has this The Supremes vibe and

00:43:56   the kind of music should be like it's

00:44:03   like it's not the song is really good

00:44:27   no Darnley loves sang it but it was

00:44:30   written by yeah

00:44:32   Oh Ellie Greenwich written by Elia grant

00:44:35   of course Ellie Greenwich I don't know

00:44:38   why that means you know one out there

00:44:40   will know okay you need to go boo blaze

00:44:42   version of this oh my god so why do you

00:44:45   say everything just lay the Buble over

00:44:47   all of our Christmas I don't know how it

00:44:49   is here but in the UK he's such a

00:44:51   phenomenon and he only appears of

00:44:53   Christmas yes all because he's

00:44:55   phenomenal all of the grannies and

00:44:57   ladies and Mike loved him anyway

00:45:02   granny said Mike locking to Buble he is

00:45:07   caught these quantities audience the

00:45:09   last one that didn't make my list is

00:45:13   Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer how about

00:45:26   the California Raisins version from

00:45:28   claymation Christmas you can search for

00:45:31   that one

00:45:34   Marko's cultural reference in California

00:45:37   in claymation Christmas how can you not

00:45:44   go Pinocchio like a light bulb version

00:45:55   no the callback version listen like

00:46:01   Pinocchio like monopoly you never heard

00:46:12   that there's like a response to every

00:46:14   love Oh reindeer like George Washington

00:46:38   it might be you eccentric that sounds

00:46:40   like especially with the Jo Roshan yeah

00:46:42   give it away it gives it away maybe this

00:46:45   didn't make it to the UK oh well it's at

00:46:48   if we ET on number one

00:46:49   oh wait wait I have one you have another

00:46:51   I'm sorry forever we'll be editing this

00:46:54   but I have one that didn't make my list

00:46:57   because I hate it so much and I hate and

00:47:05   it's Feliz Navidad oh I love Michael

00:47:11   Buble he has somebody join him it always

00:47:16   a female singer who she sings in Spanish

00:47:20   with him and it's great should I find

00:47:24   the Buble yeah please this is a really

00:47:26   good soft at this point I hope all

00:47:29   number ones will be Michael bublĂ©'s

00:47:30   version in the actual episode I've

00:47:34   basically replaced every song I mean he

00:47:38   has to get out an album every Christmas

00:47:41   in every year like obviously all songs

00:47:43   are covered by him by this point people

00:47:44   like me

00:47:47   it works just think about how much money

00:47:49   mike has given him over the years

00:47:51   yeah none songs he didn't even write you

00:47:54   stream it only right no I buy the CDs

00:47:56   for my mom okay and then you rip them

00:48:00   for yourself

00:48:02   yes this is great she's singing in

00:48:06   Spanish lie with me

00:48:25   I like the secret Buble side of my

00:48:36   all right I just want a one say that one

00:48:39   of the most messed up songs on Christmas

00:48:41   it's I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

00:48:43   yeah yeah that song creeps me out this

00:48:47   way it's super awkward it's totally like

00:48:49   a little kid kept like catching his mom

00:48:51   cheating right isn't that kind of what's

00:48:53   going sometimes lucky yeah I mean that's

00:48:56   the other part of it right but the other

00:48:58   part but the thing is the little the kid

00:49:00   thinks his mother's cheating and it's

00:49:01   totally fine with it Santa yeah yeah so

00:49:08   awkward right off presents that is oh

00:49:10   man just if you the more you think about

00:49:12   it the worse it gets that was the kiss

00:49:38   see me

00:49:39   it was creepy with

00:49:48   terrible I mean but if she was supposed

00:49:51   to be asleep why is daddy dressed as

00:49:53   Santa and they're making out in the

00:49:55   living room in a short space time I mean

00:49:58   it is sexy Christmas yeah to Adina's

00:50:02   list all right so are we going to the

00:50:06   number ones now yeah yeah okay my number

00:50:08   one is Christmas wrapping by the

00:50:12   waitresses oh nice

00:50:13   I don't know this I love this song it

00:50:19   has a whole big story it sounds like the

00:50:21   worst Christmas ever in the beginning of

00:50:23   the story and it ends really well it

00:50:26   just rocks a little bit and I also

00:50:30   really like like their voices oh I know

00:50:34   this yeah this is my number one

00:50:37   Christmas songs I don't think I've ever

00:50:40   heard this

00:50:45   now not ringing the bell I'm gonna let

00:50:48   it go the build is so good

00:50:52   Marco's getting an education

00:50:56   I'm putting as much energy into it if I

00:50:58   have home education I've never heard

00:51:05   this is your number one I love this song

00:51:08   it's happy it's lively that's what I

00:51:12   like about it I like lively Christmas

00:51:14   music now Marco nothing I've never heard

00:51:24   this part I don't know

00:51:29   anyway she's having like the worst

00:51:30   Christmas ever and she tells this whole

00:51:32   story about how she really loves

00:51:33   Christmas but it it's kind of sucking

00:51:35   and everything's going wrong and then at

00:51:37   the very end she meets this guy that

00:51:40   she's had a kind of crush on and they

00:51:42   were both like forgot to get cranberry

00:51:44   sauce and they run into each other at a

00:51:46   grocery store and end up like getting

00:51:48   together on Christmas and they're it's

00:51:50   awesome and his name was Michael Buble

00:51:53   needs more Buble so my favorite

00:51:57   Christmas song is a song that is way too

00:52:00   often forgotten I think but I think it's

00:52:03   just a flat-out good song even though

00:52:06   it's a Christmas song which is rare and

00:52:08   it's Elton John step into Christmas this

00:52:11   is just just fantastic and it people

00:52:14   just forget about it all the time it

00:52:15   like it doesn't mean make a lot of lists

00:52:17   but I think it is just brilliant and

00:52:20   it's Elton John is best

00:52:31   so so far bike every time I type your

00:52:33   songs into Apple music here this one

00:52:37   album keeps coming up like four times

00:52:40   because I have Christmas classics you

00:52:43   know this album is number one Christmas

00:52:48   that's where we why

00:52:58   ah I know this song

00:53:07   you just think more like your

00:53:09   lip-syncing here that's fine we want to

00:53:11   hear it waiting for Michael Buble to

00:53:17   cover it eventually he'll get to it

00:53:20   cause he'll run out of Christmas songs

00:53:21   and then it will transcend another level

00:53:24   that is my favorite Christmas song and I

00:53:26   do think that like at some point Colton

00:53:29   and Roderick will got to the top but in

00:53:31   nisa status at the time which it hasn't

00:53:33   yet and this one has nice nice I mean

00:53:37   he's a solid pick ya know I mean Elton

00:53:40   John is it just a great pick in them in

00:53:42   the mail what list you're pickin and so

00:53:46   alright baby the final number one song

00:53:49   it's all up to you oh how sexy is this

00:53:52   one gonna be

00:53:53   oh oh both well somebody had to choose

00:53:57   it I had to continue my line of

00:54:00   traditional or bad Christmas songs I'm

00:54:04   gonna get a lot of heat for it all I

00:54:07   want for Christmas I love it I just love

00:54:15   it is it that all I want for Christmas

00:54:17   is my all I want for Christmas is my two

00:54:19   front teeth for Christmas all right oh

00:54:25   there she is look at her and her red

00:54:27   jumpsuit of glory you know it was a

00:54:30   better version of this song them are

00:54:34   seriously is way better

00:54:36   does he have one yeah of course the

00:54:41   variety needs to play his for comparison

00:54:44   woods so if you're gonna pick it you

00:54:46   should be kissed no no stem by Mariah

00:54:54   so when it gets to the good part

00:54:58   then when is that now that's for sure

00:55:01   when it's like more hey this is like all

00:55:05   over love actually so there's something

00:55:07   right here

00:55:19   I just love and I'm not even gonna stand

00:55:33   if you goes some people are dancing

00:55:38   singing it's clearly working the things

00:55:40   this is completely infectious so I said

00:55:44   over here it's contagious like it just

00:55:47   grabs you and doesn't let go until his

00:55:50   thumb

00:55:51   I can't stand where I carry yeah it's

00:55:53   not about Mariah it's just about a song

00:55:55   and what else I had there was that um I

00:55:59   when I hear the this part is that it

00:56:02   feels like I want to pull some lame

00:56:04   moves from the 90s like the scuba diver

00:56:06   whatever it hasn't appropriate dance

00:56:11   move for us we'll be frozen can we

00:56:18   listen to oh there it is yeah right next

00:56:25   to Mariah mm-hmm

00:56:26   and he's holding that little red gift by

00:56:28   his but on the album cover

00:56:29   probably from Raya maybe that is the

00:56:31   gift it's a lot slower

00:56:36   Kilda

00:56:42   he made it his own did make his own

00:56:45   that's the most popular expected common

00:56:55   see that that's Buble yeah I gotta give

00:57:05   this one to Mariah

00:57:06   sorry when does it start this is it this

00:57:12   lace is just chill chill

00:57:15   my wake me up when it's over just like a

00:57:19   dream right

00:57:30   well I like this one like I like all

00:57:34   Buble songs well yeah I think those are

00:57:37   soulless solid pics and I think everyone

00:57:39   like shone light on different parts

00:57:43   Marko shone light on one song which we

00:57:46   couldn't find which you couldn't find by

00:57:48   Metallica on the Internet everyone's

00:57:52   heard it come on and I should look to

00:57:54   YouTube at that point but you could drop

00:57:55   it in yourself you could end with that

00:57:57   if you want since we are one glorious

00:57:59   pick up number four I like that it's

00:58:02   number four as well it isn't good enough

00:58:06   to be higher so it's there for the best

00:58:11   no it's it's the worst really all right

00:58:15   so this is our top four Christmas songs

00:58:17   and we've learned a lot yeah we've heard

00:58:23   a lot of Michael Buble a lot of Buble

00:58:25   yeah and we learned about sexy Christmas

00:58:27   and Romanian songs and Romanian songs

00:58:31   special Christmas rest and their Twisted

00:58:34   Sister Christmas album is actually quite

00:58:37   I might listen to that's one after I

00:58:40   live here as well happy holidays

00:58:45   everybody all right happy holidays from

00:58:47   all of us at really happen and here's

00:58:51   Michael Buble Buble this is Michael

00:58:58   Buble wishing you a very Merry Christmas

00:59:01   yeah we did it
