00:01:00   year with the episode 73 of the [TS]

00:01:03   incomparable and we're going to finish [TS]

00:01:04   at roughly a hundred and twenty-one and [TS]

00:01:07   we make a lot of there's a lot of well [TS]

00:01:09   he do one a week had cast that's a lot [TS]

00:01:12   of yakin I was gonna I was gonna say we [TS]

00:01:14   make a lot of crap but yeah it's worse [TS]

00:01:16   when you have to edit them let me tell [TS]

00:01:17   us that this is all gold the supercut is [TS]

00:01:21   really going to be something so i asked [TS]

00:01:25   on on the internet i asked listeners [TS]

00:01:27   what their favorite to we still at the [TS]

00:01:31   scene if we do a few there got there [TS]

00:01:33   they're about to die as the world comes [TS]

00:01:34   to an end but into them from Australia [TS]

00:01:36   only likes me [TS]

00:01:38   yes before they went they they gave us [TS]

00:01:40   some feedback [TS]

00:01:41   Adam world said was the Empire Strikes [TS]

00:01:44   Back episode this year [TS]

00:01:45   no it wasn't sorry that episodes every [TS]

00:01:48   year James I guess we run it like a [TS]

00:01:50   christmas story 24 has day it's a [TS]

00:01:52   Christmas tradition it's beautiful thing [TS]

00:01:55   about podcast you can plan back anytime [TS]

00:01:56   he said he liked the jonathan coulton [TS]

00:01:58   episode and like listening to John on [TS]

00:02:02   miyazaki i was also on that episode but [TS]

00:02:06   he didn't like to listen to me like the [TS]

00:02:07   John part he'd like John's parts of the [TS]

00:02:10   miyazaki episode Rodney simba Massa rear [TS]

00:02:14   I think he said the TV draft and and [TS]

00:02:18   casting was that this year it doesn't [TS]

00:02:20   matter it [TS]

00:02:21   and whenever here you also not this year [TS]

00:02:24   but thank you [TS]

00:02:25   where is it possible we shall molanda [TS]

00:02:27   ourselves are so you're really good but [TS]

00:02:29   after battle yes but Rodney had the [TS]

00:02:31   right answer which is it doesn't matter [TS]

00:02:32   it wins every year anyway so Dylan geo [TS]

00:02:36   veneto says the con con and con- moment [TS]

00:02:41   from episode 84 the film festival which [TS]

00:02:45   actually was this year good which [TS]

00:02:46   actually wasn't in 2012 good stuff [TS]

00:02:49   german angel movies included he says [TS]

00:02:51   blending yeah man going science fiction [TS]

00:02:57   then into screwball then into cons but [TS]

00:03:01   not that con right Scott Scott starts [TS]

00:03:04   with Khan wear which games child and all [TS]

00:03:07   this i hit james bond movie always a [TS]

00:03:15   it's it's really the con film festival [TS]

00:03:18   at this point haha oh wow well [TS]

00:03:24   Wow who are in terrible pain no that was [TS]

00:03:28   amazing times after snow somehow also [TS]

00:03:31   like wow but it was sitting right there [TS]

00:03:35   guys [TS]

00:03:36   yeah I thought of it too but I didn't [TS]

00:03:38   say strength and you can see it didn't [TS]

00:03:40   even see it while RR Michael Gartenberg [TS]

00:03:43   who was actually on the star trek to [TS]

00:03:46   episode said that he liked when in arco [TS]

00:03:48   took over the Avengers episode and then [TS]

00:03:52   several other people said don't don't [TS]

00:03:54   you mean the worst thing that happened [TS]

00:03:56   on the podcast this year that was not [TS]

00:03:58   one of our popular moments in many [TS]

00:04:00   places no no that was that that episode [TS]

00:04:03   that that's that's in some ways my least [TS]

00:04:05   favorite episode that we've done mostly [TS]

00:04:07   because i felt like it kind of got out [TS]

00:04:08   of hand out of hand and not everybody [TS]

00:04:10   you know it became more of us trying to [TS]

00:04:13   like debate with Andy rather than talk [TS]

00:04:15   about what we were talking about and [TS]

00:04:16   it's you know oh well live and learn [TS]

00:04:19   when the avengers 2 comes out we'll do [TS]

00:04:21   another oh man oh yeah we're we're right [TS]

00:04:23   there [TS]

00:04:24   it prevented our plan white christmas [TS]

00:04:26   episode at any rate so yes it's got that [TS]

00:04:28   going for it [TS]

00:04:29   Fred he she or quiche depending money [TS]

00:04:34   he's a real bad i'm going to guess it's [TS]

00:04:36   not even i prefer quiche Frederick kishi [TS]

00:04:40   i think i read his philosophy whole stop [TS]

00:04:43   making fun of the listeners I feel like [TS]

00:04:46   it started [TS]

00:04:47   he liked uh he said very well-read hobos [TS]

00:04:50   schrödinger's cat dare you mean the [TS]

00:04:53   museum for sony that right not actually [TS]

00:04:56   very well if i get a spinal tap wrath of [TS]

00:04:57   khan the redshirts episode he's just [TS]

00:04:59   listing all the episode like the mall is [TS]

00:05:02   everything alright Fred had something to [TS]

00:05:04   make me laugh Brian Hamilton said the [TS]

00:05:07   Joe the joco episode obscure reference [TS]

00:05:09   references and said thanks for getting [TS]

00:05:10   me into jonathan coulton he says that [TS]

00:05:12   was very nice [TS]

00:05:13   you're welcome our work here is done [TS]

00:05:15   Clinton Phillips the man who is making [TS]

00:05:17   the Scot McMillan supercut I haven't [TS]

00:05:19   heard an update on that in a while by [TS]

00:05:20   the way I haven't given up [TS]

00:05:22   it's been very quiet he's working on it [TS]

00:05:24   Scott don't talk anymore you make more [TS]

00:05:25   work for him he said he liked it [TS]

00:05:28   kids have bad taste episode where we [TS]

00:05:30   talked about what we what we expose our [TS]

00:05:32   kids to in terms of what I mean I'm I [TS]

00:05:34   was not on that the sound he didn't have [TS]

00:05:37   any like yeah you didn't have to get out [TS]

00:05:39   that was why he liked it so much it's [TS]

00:05:41   alright it's alright Scott you have bad [TS]

00:05:42   taste to and he he actually listed some [TS]

00:05:44   favorite moments he likes when and he [TS]

00:05:47   says the Avengers is like Michael based [TS]

00:05:49   Transformers movies and everybody [TS]

00:05:50   suddenly get irate again it wasn't an [TS]

00:05:53   awful movie it was just your basic [TS]

00:05:55   transformers two style on its 100 no I [TS]

00:06:01   think you need to watch transformers two [TS]

00:06:03   again he like an after-dark number 154 [TS]

00:06:08   when everybody does an impression of [TS]

00:06:10   Scott McNulty saying hello in tilling [TS]

00:06:12   recording know that is a classic [TS]

00:06:18   it angered me instead of saying [TS]

00:06:21   recording we show [TS]

00:06:22   imitates commenting saying saying hello [TS]

00:06:24   Lou and he also liked the insular [TS]

00:06:31   nervous fear episode we talked about [TS]

00:06:32   john scalzi and the the Hugo's and [TS]

00:06:36   sci-fi fandom voting for itself for [TS]

00:06:39   awards like you know nominating feed for [TS]

00:06:42   things and stuff like horrible things [TS]

00:06:44   erik christensen said he enjoyed me haha [TS]

00:06:48   finally somebody's on my side describing [TS]

00:06:51   the scene in in return of the jedi where [TS]

00:06:54   Luke is attempting to explain his [TS]

00:06:57   relationship with her [TS]

00:06:58   the force is strong in my family I have [TS]

00:07:01   it [TS]

00:07:01   my father has it my sister are you [TS]

00:07:06   following along you're done [TS]

00:07:08   he just wants to talk two layers so [TS]

00:07:10   badly about this and she's just not [TS]

00:07:12   getting the hint and he's like all right [TS]

00:07:14   come on please I view that as being [TS]

00:07:16   looks like what we will with the most [TS]

00:07:18   dramatically I could tell you this I [TS]

00:07:19   could just run up to it today I thought [TS]

00:07:21   of your bases you doing there's a father [TS]

00:07:22   God but no no no let me stretch it out [TS]

00:07:25   let me make it a little more dramatic [TS]

00:07:26   that's it the Darth Vader's here [TS]

00:07:28   remember Darth Vader he's a bad guy [TS]

00:07:29   yeah okay guess what guess what the [TS]

00:07:32   force is strong in my family I know that [TS]

00:07:34   seems unrelated wait wait for it wait [TS]

00:07:35   for it [TS]

00:07:36   Darth Vader's my father who no no that's [TS]

00:07:39   not it [TS]

00:07:40   oh that starts out the conversation with [TS]

00:07:45   like I never remembered my mother [TS]

00:07:47   oh my sister has it my name is Gail she [TS]

00:07:50   lives in Oregon actually and the thing [TS]

00:07:55   that really gets me about that is that [TS]

00:07:57   let's try to process it all and I I'm [TS]

00:07:59   really should and she says I know I know [TS]

00:08:02   somehow I've always known anybody you [TS]

00:08:04   know what she should be saying there is [TS]

00:08:06   wait a second are you saying that Darth [TS]

00:08:08   Vader is my father [TS]

00:08:10   holy crap right now she's like I've [TS]

00:08:12   always known and we and we made out that [TS]

00:08:14   one time i do then to that was just [TS]

00:08:17   getting on jealous he also loved John [TS]

00:08:20   talking about the Jedi philosophy of [TS]

00:08:21   pacifism so22 moments from our return of [TS]

00:08:25   the jedi episode and he also credits [TS]

00:08:27   leash misers laughs which is infectious [TS]

00:08:30   and that is true we've all been in fact [TS]

00:08:31   by Lisa's laughs hence the fires yeah [TS]

00:08:34   there is no cure and and I want to [TS]

00:08:37   acknowledge mr. Doug leak who suggested [TS]

00:08:40   that we talked about movie trailers [TS]

00:08:42   that's a good idea will take that under [TS]

00:08:43   advisement and stupid ideas it turns out [TS]

00:08:46   yeah exactly sorry Doug yeah so uh you [TS]

00:08:51   guys have any anything that you want to [TS]

00:08:53   recommend from being comfortable from [TS]

00:08:55   the world at large from 2012 before we [TS]

00:08:57   cast into oblivion [TS]

00:09:01   I did my homework and I made a big list [TS]

00:09:02   of notes here yes John you said 10 [TS]

00:09:05   favorite thing or two from 2012 and [TS]

00:09:07   favorite thing from icomparable Sean's [TS]

00:09:09   totally the teacher's pet you always [TS]

00:09:10   showed up with his homework done to say [TS]

00:09:13   I come prepared of anyone elses takes [TS]

00:09:16   his email seriously here's an apple [TS]

00:09:17   Jason I got a big I got a big list here [TS]

00:09:20   too but go ahead Johnson is daughter [TS]

00:09:22   might do my quick so I never prepared [TS]

00:09:24   for class my favorite things from 2012 [TS]

00:09:27   Iranians are easy to guess but you know [TS]

00:09:29   what's my number one guy's heart related [TS]

00:09:34   don't know tourney come on [TS]

00:09:37   love-40 during you get a videogame [TS]

00:09:39   journey with the and stationary not the [TS]

00:09:41   band not the incredible journey with the [TS]

00:09:44   dog and the cat then we touched then we [TS]

00:09:46   say yeah right so that the video game is [TS]

00:09:49   specifically what I'm talking about [TS]

00:09:50   that's the best game i played in 2012 by [TS]

00:09:52   a long shot and it's easily in my gaming [TS]

00:09:55   top 10 and depending on what I feel like [TS]

00:09:57   when i wake up in the morning sometimes [TS]

00:09:58   it's my number one so big thumbs up [TS]

00:10:00   there I yeah I know you like that w [TS]

00:10:04   scott did just for you [TS]

00:10:08   we know we know what he likes you know [TS]

00:10:09   he likes Colombo and bathroom humor [TS]

00:10:11   alright the perfect together and and on [TS]

00:10:15   what my second picture that things like [TS]

00:10:18   this year is like I watch a lot of TV [TS]

00:10:20   but if you go down like the shows that I [TS]

00:10:21   have season passes for at the top of my [TS]

00:10:23   season pass list or you know [TS]

00:10:25   past present future Sopranos the wire [TS]

00:10:27   Game of Thrones Breaking Bad boardwalk [TS]

00:10:29   empire walking dead like those are not [TS]

00:10:31   exactly laughfest there you know there's [TS]

00:10:33   not a comedy in the but it's all kind of [TS]

00:10:34   like pretty adult drama fantasy sci fi [TS]

00:10:37   you know and I basically given up on [TS]

00:10:39   sitcoms entirely except for 30 rock and [TS]

00:10:41   stuff because a tina fey is awesome [TS]

00:10:43   so when I look back at 2012 1 [TS]

00:10:45   are they really stood out it's not all [TS]

00:10:46   those other shows are listed there were [TS]

00:10:48   great and everything but it's HBO's [TS]

00:10:50   girls because it's the closest I came to [TS]

00:10:53   something that was you know I don't know [TS]

00:10:56   happy like it's not a completely [TS]

00:10:58   comedies more of a dramedy or whatever [TS]

00:11:00   but it was it's you know quirky and [TS]

00:11:02   interesting and offbeat and people don't [TS]

00:11:05   get their heads chopped off and nobody's [TS]

00:11:06   a zombie and it's not about organized [TS]

00:11:09   crime i and III really like it you know [TS]

00:11:13   it's a nice change of pace that's why it [TS]

00:11:14   stands out because it's like wow this [TS]

00:11:15   other thing you know and uh the show [TS]

00:11:18   could also be called like I yeah [TS]

00:11:20   Lena Dunham presents lena Dunham's girls [TS]

00:11:22   by lena gonna finally Donna LaDonna [TS]

00:11:24   joints because she pushed her she [TS]

00:11:26   created it [TS]

00:11:27   she produces it she writes it and she [TS]

00:11:29   stars in it all which I didn't know when [TS]

00:11:31   i watch the series so I am a big giant [TS]

00:11:33   fan of her despite her all for flaws as [TS]

00:11:36   an actress and a rider and probably as a [TS]

00:11:39   person they all just make her more [TS]

00:11:41   endearing [TS]

00:11:42   so those are my those my two pics for [TS]

00:11:45   2012 am i comfortable pics quickly [TS]

00:11:48   surprised the journey show you i was [TS]

00:11:50   excited that we had a show I was very [TS]

00:11:52   touched that everyone managed to find a [TS]

00:11:53   way to play it [TS]

00:11:54   despite not having Playstations and I [TS]

00:11:56   was glad that everyone seemed to like it [TS]

00:11:57   so I didn't have an Avengers moment ya [TS]

00:11:59   on that episode when you will tell me [TS]

00:12:01   was there was terrible and i really like [TS]

00:12:04   every like the way music was that into [TS]

00:12:06   that episode I think we should do more [TS]

00:12:07   of that I said that is person who never [TS]

00:12:09   had doesn't know yeah except yeah I'll [TS]

00:12:11   take that under advisement it helped [TS]

00:12:13   that somebody who was involved in that [TS]

00:12:14   actually like sit sent me specific [TS]

00:12:17   recommendations for what songs to play [TS]

00:12:19   at what times that we're facing more [TS]

00:12:22   wilhelm scream could help look at that [TS]

00:12:24   I've contributed I tell you hear this [TS]

00:12:26   here's the audio clips and here's where [TS]

00:12:27   you put them in I go to town supervisor [TS]

00:12:30   and I went to town you know that is [TS]

00:12:32   jason and i also like Princess indiana [TS]

00:12:34   jones and who cares what we think I [TS]

00:12:36   guess I like princess diana jones [TS]

00:12:38   because we have to talk about a movie [TS]

00:12:39   and then we talked about a meta topic [TS]

00:12:41   about the movie we should do more of [TS]

00:12:42   that we have time like and there you go [TS]

00:12:45   you're helping already [TS]

00:12:46   yeah and who cares what we think I like [TS]

00:12:48   a metal show that it was about the show [TS]

00:12:50   how could you not a hundred episode you [TS]

00:12:51   that was a good one that was on my list [TS]

00:12:53   that's great i'm done i like the journey [TS]

00:12:56   show to ya [TS]

00:12:58   it was fun good episode damn yeah I am [TS]

00:13:01   there are a couple moments I that I like [TS]

00:13:04   this year we wrapped up our star wars [TS]

00:13:05   trilogy like the return of the jedi [TS]

00:13:06   episode especially I would went back and [TS]

00:13:08   listened to it earlier and I like the [TS]

00:13:10   beginning where we all sing the Fox [TS]

00:13:12   fanfare oh yeah did you do digit digital [TS]

00:13:18   ooh internet didn't did it did you do [TS]

00:13:24   did to do anything where we make sound [TS]

00:13:27   effects and noises anything with a horse [TS]

00:13:29   with the head on it clearly I'm crazy [TS]

00:13:31   but here's my problem i can't remember a [TS]

00:13:34   lot of things that we thought we had a [TS]

00:13:35   lot of singing and sound effects come [TS]

00:13:38   from us this year it's very strange i [TS]

00:13:39   don't know what's wrong with us [TS]

00:13:41   I don't either but I think we might have [TS]

00:13:42   some sort of collective disorder [TS]

00:13:44   we have a probe droid an empire that was [TS]

00:13:45   one of the yeah that's exactly I was the [TS]

00:13:47   only comment was that this year i can [TS]

00:13:48   recommend a TX is like one of the few [TS]

00:13:50   moments I actually remember that was [TS]

00:13:51   last year games one I think I may have [TS]

00:13:53   given it as my favorite moment from last [TS]

00:13:55   year on the west i'm on the wrap-up [TS]

00:13:58   thing for last year so can I throw up my [TS]

00:14:00   favorite moment moment from about yes [TS]

00:14:02   please God I got you know I was racked [TS]

00:14:04   my brains that it popped into my head [TS]

00:14:06   because I just I love this moment and [TS]

00:14:08   remember exactly where you put in i [TS]

00:14:09   think it may be at the beginning of one [TS]

00:14:11   of one of the Empire episodes which is [TS]

00:14:13   everybody's impression of a imperial [TS]

00:14:14   probe droid [TS]

00:14:15   oh yes that's at the beginning of one of [TS]

00:14:16   the Empire episodes and the other the [TS]

00:14:18   other one ends with yes largely you [TS]

00:14:21   doing your series of sound effects from [TS]

00:14:23   you can wear story star wars soundboard [TS]

00:14:26   and I'm a trap Batman around a proper [TS]

00:14:28   irony and understand what [TS]

00:14:32   remember we're already paying attention [TS]

00:14:35   during internet [TS]

00:14:37   after that nap yeah [TS]

00:14:41   report trooper 020 girl got also [TS]

00:14:50   throughout our live episode at singleton [TS]

00:14:54   where we made lecture even talk about [TS]

00:14:56   Indiana Jones despite having exactly and [TS]

00:14:58   look [TS]

00:15:00   Lex has and CNN alternately great and [TS]

00:15:05   also to me why did you make me do that [TS]

00:15:07   makes it because I thought it was funny [TS]

00:15:08   I didn't think you just go about it [TS]

00:15:10   would be funny to have you up there [TS]

00:15:11   saying i don't know i havent what are [TS]

00:15:14   your impressions it's alternatively if [TS]

00:15:16   it's alternately hilarious and [TS]

00:15:17   incredibly painful same time and Lex [TS]

00:15:20   Friedman who hasn't seen them [TS]

00:15:22   I don't know why I'm here max hasn't [TS]

00:15:25   seen it [TS]

00:15:26   that's that's Lex has seen many movies [TS]

00:15:28   it's it's not true that he's not seen [TS]

00:15:31   any movies he just hasn't seen any [TS]

00:15:32   movies that anybody else has seen right [TS]

00:15:34   i basically there was a large gap in the [TS]

00:15:37   eighties and early nineties when if the [TS]

00:15:38   movie was fantastical my parents were [TS]

00:15:40   interested in they were the arbiters of [TS]

00:15:42   what we got to watch at home so I didn't [TS]

00:15:43   see it [TS]

00:15:44   so relax and I haven't made up for that [TS]

00:15:46   lost time [TS]

00:15:47   what do you know about Indiana Jones I [TS]

00:15:50   want to start before we start talking [TS]

00:15:51   about the movies i would like to quiz [TS]

00:15:53   you what you see that youtube video [TS]

00:15:55   about the three-year-old explaining Star [TS]

00:15:56   Wars yeah this is basically the same [TS]

00:15:58   thing [TS]

00:15:59   yes only on 31 yeah [TS]

00:16:01   it's other that is getting this is what [TS]

00:16:04   I know I know it stars Harrison Ford I [TS]

00:16:06   believe Shawn consciousness will do that [TS]

00:16:08   yes Sean Connery's i love is in the [TS]

00:16:10   fourth one that people don't like that [TS]

00:16:11   had the nuclear bomb that he hides from [TS]

00:16:13   a refrigerator right i doing great so [TS]

00:16:16   far [TS]

00:16:17   yes it's like you've seen them in the [TS]

00:16:18   first 1i think the first one I don't [TS]

00:16:20   know which title goes with which movie [TS]

00:16:21   but in the first 10 there's the big [TS]

00:16:23   boulder that he runs away from yes and [TS]

00:16:26   everything I know about the first movie [TS]

00:16:27   i know from UHF and there's a thing [TS]

00:16:31   where he's got a bag of sand that he's [TS]

00:16:32   gotta replace the weight and he's got a [TS]

00:16:34   time right after that the see you've [TS]

00:16:36   seen the weird al yankovic parody of you [TS]

00:16:37   guys either not the actual movie and I [TS]

00:16:39   know there's one of the odm that I know [TS]

00:16:42   that at the end the the Nazis spoiler [TS]

00:16:45   alert get fried when the Ark of the [TS]

00:16:47   Covenant opens I know that happens that [TS]

00:16:49   is approximately he's basically seen it [TS]

00:16:52   why do we not yet have a 30 style drop [TS]

00:16:54   of somebody going [TS]

00:16:55   Lex hasn't seen hey I'm thinking we got [TS]

00:16:58   it [TS]

00:16:58   plop in every given up aside I'm sure [TS]

00:17:00   likes would perform that for you [TS]

00:17:02   yeah as for things that i consumed this [TS]

00:17:06   year it was a it was not a great year [TS]

00:17:08   for a lot like television was looking [TS]

00:17:10   through my television listings like a [TS]

00:17:11   lot of good stuff i'm watching but it's [TS]

00:17:12   all into you know second seasons third [TS]

00:17:15   seasons cetera and there was really as [TS]

00:17:18   we discussed in our TV episode not a lot [TS]

00:17:20   good that was new this year and before [TS]

00:17:23   that I need to go back to writing down [TS]

00:17:25   the books i actually and movies I [TS]

00:17:27   actually watched site lets can't [TS]

00:17:28   remember anything i saw or read this [TS]

00:17:30   year I feel very bad memory for those [TS]

00:17:34   things but I did like there are a couple [TS]

00:17:37   things i did--like i played some video [TS]

00:17:39   games including journey which I really [TS]

00:17:40   enjoyed and yeah I don't know it was a [TS]

00:17:45   yeah I guess there is some good stuff [TS]

00:17:48   and stuff i don't remember that's about [TS]

00:17:50   it you're not disappointed i have very [TS]

00:17:52   good i have a very good memory for [TS]

00:17:53   certain things which include people's [TS]

00:17:55   faces and names i have a terrible memory [TS]

00:17:57   for things that happened in books and [TS]

00:17:59   movies and television shows even though [TS]

00:18:01   i like all of those things we need to [TS]

00:18:03   perform an experiment both Scott and Dan [TS]

00:18:05   read a book and then we wait a week and [TS]

00:18:07   then we ask each person questions about [TS]

00:18:09   the book to see who remembers less [TS]

00:18:11   that I will I will I will take part in [TS]

00:18:14   this i want as well just because the [TS]

00:18:16   first question will be i read that book [TS]

00:18:18   and if there's a movie adaptation you [TS]

00:18:21   can put Lex in there i would just I was [TS]

00:18:23   just watching just doing some catch-up [TS]

00:18:24   on Homeland the second season which I [TS]

00:18:26   hadn't finished watching I'd sort of let [TS]

00:18:28   the last five or six episodes build-up [TS]

00:18:30   turn my back and we're watching them and [TS]

00:18:33   and you know I had to keep having my [TS]

00:18:35   viewing companion like say oh yeah don't [TS]

00:18:37   remember when that thing happened and I [TS]

00:18:38   was like no do you remember that you did [TS]

00:18:41   with it don't got that kind and they [TS]

00:18:43   recap like the whole season the [TS]

00:18:45   beginning of each one of those shows [TS]

00:18:46   like that but they were like little [TS]

00:18:47   details like oh wait did we ever learn [TS]

00:18:48   that this guy knows this thing and you [TS]

00:18:50   look at four episodes ago I don't know I [TS]

00:18:53   have no recollection effect [TS]

00:18:55   yeah right its name is a problem simpler [TS]

00:18:59   then yeah there's not a lot of baggage [TS]

00:19:01   there i like to live in the moment [TS]

00:19:03   happy birthday it's my birthday [TS]

00:19:06   Frosty the Snowman help everybody [TS]

00:19:09   I don't think that here we go I don't [TS]

00:19:11   think that's in a much better impression [TS]

00:19:13   Scott what about you i enjoyed the [TS]

00:19:17   structure to episode me too mostly I was [TS]

00:19:21   a good episode [TS]

00:19:22   this is City al5 I enjoyed that it is [TS]

00:19:25   that was good that was fun we in [TS]

00:19:28   addition to singing and making sound [TS]

00:19:29   effects we also reality and this is [TS]

00:19:33   eddie out 45 a lot at you as you do is [TS]

00:19:36   study alpha 5 is a back with this is [TS]

00:19:38   Ceti alpha five and one of my co-workers [TS]

00:19:42   hadn't seen any of the Star Trek movies [TS]

00:19:44   before the reboot and he said well which [TS]

00:19:46   star trek's movie should i start with [TS]

00:19:48   and I said clearly wrath of khan so I [TS]

00:19:50   lent him the blue house and see what you [TS]

00:19:52   wrecked it you should have told of any [TS]

00:19:53   other film and then you something to [TS]

00:19:55   look forward to [TS]

00:19:56   I told him not the first one good god [TS]

00:19:58   and and then the next day I said oh well [TS]

00:20:01   did you like wrath of khan what did you [TS]

00:20:02   think [TS]

00:20:03   and he said it was alright and I said [TS]

00:20:05   never speak to me [TS]

00:20:06   we're no longer coworkers [TS]

00:20:10   exactly I i like the the the game show [TS]

00:20:15   episode i enjoyed the air force episode [TS]

00:20:18   yes that was this year my god that was [TS]

00:20:21   this year game show team old and Tim [TS]

00:20:23   young team young [TS]

00:20:25   yeah it's good i enjoyed that I also [TS]

00:20:28   like the the the manic episode about why [TS]

00:20:31   we do this that's good and I enjoy all [TS]

00:20:34   the book club episodes because it makes [TS]

00:20:35   me read things that I would have read [TS]

00:20:37   anyway since I suggest all the books but [TS]

00:20:39   still I thank you scarred the one we did [TS]

00:20:43   on the how we read to it that's good [TS]

00:20:45   oh yeah that was good that's good [TS]

00:20:46   suggested by listening right so yes just [TS]

00:20:49   as soon as keep bringing it in I feel [TS]

00:20:50   like this is suggest very well-read [TS]

00:20:52   hobos that was that's the name of that [TS]

00:20:54   episode I was gonna make a joke about [TS]

00:20:55   how you read show is one word after the [TS]

00:20:58   next but that's not actually however on [TS]

00:20:59   the show red so forget about the summary [TS]

00:21:01   diagonally [TS]

00:21:02   I don't know it's a live right in [TS]

00:21:04   addition pieces and as for other things [TS]

00:21:09   that I have a read or watched a [TS]

00:21:11   television has been kind of lackluster [TS]

00:21:14   for me this year yeah haven't seen many [TS]

00:21:15   movies but I've read a lot of books so i [TS]

00:21:18   could talk about some i think i like the [TS]

00:21:20   night circus which read for an episode [TS]

00:21:21   that was a highlight of this year for me [TS]

00:21:24   yeah the brook by Daniel O'Malley is a [TS]

00:21:27   fun book we haven't spoken about it but [TS]

00:21:30   a look it up on the internet so not to [TS]

00:21:32   explain to you the hydrogen Sonata in [TS]

00:21:35   banks is latest culture book lot of fun [TS]

00:21:37   if you've read any of the culture books [TS]

00:21:38   even if you haven't read the culture [TS]

00:21:40   books it's a good place to jump into it [TS]

00:21:42   i spent a lot of time reading a a KJ [TS]

00:21:46   parker books which I've spoken about [TS]

00:21:48   before it like seven of them this year [TS]

00:21:50   so check them out [TS]

00:21:52   i also enjoyed more than other people on [TS]

00:21:54   this podcast the cloud atlas [TS]

00:21:56   yeah not naming any names but the book [TS]

00:22:00   not the book i haven't seen the movie so [TS]

00:22:02   who knows my book did not start tom [TS]

00:22:06   hanks so happy about that and you know [TS]

00:22:11   that covers it for me [TS]

00:22:12   alright that's good Steve what about you [TS]

00:22:16   I only put down one cool thing about [TS]

00:22:18   2012 because just in general 2012 sort [TS]

00:22:22   of blue for male don't like to uh the [TS]

00:22:25   one cool thing I put down actually in [TS]

00:22:27   keeping with last year's clip show [TS]

00:22:29   episode it's it's another new thing new [TS]

00:22:32   things [TS]

00:22:33   yes that's right it's new to you that's [TS]

00:22:35   all that matters [TS]

00:22:36   this was the year that i discovered [TS]

00:22:38   Star Trek it's true [TS]

00:22:42   oh yes yes shortly after after we did [TS]

00:22:45   our breath of cod episode I'd mentioned [TS]

00:22:49   previously that my daughter and I were [TS]

00:22:51   kind of going through a few twilight [TS]

00:22:52   zone episodes and just one night I [TS]

00:22:54   suggest you know second twilight zone [TS]

00:22:56   I've been thinking about going through [TS]

00:22:58   the original series of Star Trek and [TS]

00:23:00   kind of checking it out [TS]

00:23:01   you want to watch one of these said okay [TS]

00:23:03   sure why not [TS]

00:23:05   so we put it on and she is completely [TS]

00:23:07   hooked I I nine-year-old girl completely [TS]

00:23:11   hooked on Star Trek which is great [TS]

00:23:13   because it means i don't have to worry [TS]

00:23:15   about boys for at least another 50 years [TS]

00:23:17   until all those nerd boys get up the [TS]

00:23:20   leprechauns I know how to deal with them [TS]

00:23:23   though [TS]

00:23:24   yeah that's having been one myself and I [TS]

00:23:26   can easily handle them [TS]

00:23:28   it's the the football team guys that I [TS]

00:23:31   wouldn't be able to manage but there's [TS]

00:23:32   no problem there because she's a big [TS]

00:23:34   star trek fan [TS]

00:23:35   yeah in fact you know we get towards the [TS]

00:23:37   end of the year here i would recommend [TS]

00:23:39   night before she goes to bed you want to [TS]

00:23:40   watch a miracle 34 street and watch a [TS]

00:23:43   christmas show let's watch Rudolph let's [TS]

00:23:45   watch how about a christmas story she [TS]

00:23:48   would say no star trek and we are we're [TS]

00:23:52   almost almost done with season two right [TS]

00:23:54   now and about to drift into season three [TS]

00:23:57   Oh Steve it's all it's all downhill from [TS]

00:23:59   there I gotta say I'm prepared for some [TS]

00:24:01   downhill site yes season three is [TS]

00:24:03   another good because i have been awful [TS]

00:24:04   lot of down hills in seasons wanted to [TS]

00:24:07   have already put up with [TS]

00:24:09   yeah you do 28 or 30 episodes a year [TS]

00:24:11   which is insane like they did and and [TS]

00:24:14   yeah it's it's variable but you know a [TS]

00:24:16   lot of people talk about what if start [TS]

00:24:18   record stayed on the air for longer and [TS]

00:24:20   I keep thinking there's a reason it [TS]

00:24:22   didn't they needed that third season to [TS]

00:24:23   get into syndication to make all those [TS]

00:24:25   other things happen but that third [TS]

00:24:27   season itself really not very good [TS]

00:24:29   yeah well I don't want to get into a [TS]

00:24:30   whole episode here on Star Trek the [TS]

00:24:32   original series will do that i mean [TS]

00:24:34   there's a good chance that might happen [TS]

00:24:35   sometime in the future eight happened i [TS]

00:24:38   I've got the got the blu rays of the [TS]

00:24:40   first two seasons and they look since [TS]

00:24:42   they shot that on you know nice high [TS]

00:24:44   quality film and then they scanned it [TS]

00:24:46   all in it looks great it looks fantastic [TS]

00:24:49   cam but it's funny we've gotten very [TS]

00:24:51   into [TS]

00:24:52   the original series of Star Trek and [TS]

00:24:53   we'll probably once we're done with that [TS]

00:24:55   because she's she seems to be still [TS]

00:24:58   interested [TS]

00:24:59   midway through the second season will [TS]

00:25:00   probably continue on with the the films [TS]

00:25:02   and then maybe on into the next [TS]

00:25:04   generation generation sure we'll see [TS]

00:25:06   we'll see how it goes i described the to [TS]

00:25:09   her as like The Twilight Zone in space [TS]

00:25:11   and it pretty much is in that whole [TS]

00:25:12   first season fact a lot of the same [TS]

00:25:15   writers and some some of the same [TS]

00:25:16   directors pop-up and with Shatner and [TS]

00:25:19   yeah and Shatner right he's in like [TS]

00:25:21   three or four toilets and episodes so [TS]

00:25:24   that's pretty much it for for external [TS]

00:25:26   to the incomparable items in 2012 now as [TS]

00:25:29   far as the incomparable goes i have a [TS]

00:25:32   favorite episode and some favorite [TS]

00:25:33   moments my favorite episode it this year [TS]

00:25:36   it's tossed up but i gotta go with the [TS]

00:25:39   criminally underappreciated game show [TS]

00:25:41   episode which was already mentioned I'm [TS]

00:25:43   proud of that because I that I through [TS]

00:25:45   like every single kind of crap that I [TS]

00:25:48   could think of it as the Sun yes yes i [TS]

00:25:51   do something stuck to the wall the [TS]

00:25:53   bucket it's a bucket show that show is [TS]

00:25:55   full of it's more complicated than like [TS]

00:25:57   risk it's like got eight different games [TS]

00:26:00   in it happening simultaneously with a [TS]

00:26:02   parallel universe and yeah so I'm glad [TS]

00:26:04   you liked it because i liked it and in [TS]

00:26:06   its it helps for me because I was so [TS]

00:26:09   god-awful sick at the time that I can [TS]

00:26:13   actually listen to it and i have no no [TS]

00:26:14   recollection of having participated so [TS]

00:26:17   it's a big surprise to me but I was I [TS]

00:26:19   was kind of surprised you know we've had [TS]

00:26:21   even some of our weirder episodes we've [TS]

00:26:23   had a lot of feedback from people on [TS]

00:26:26   Twitter and the game show episode kind [TS]

00:26:28   of got dropped in there was just nothing [TS]

00:26:30   yeah maybe one or two people responded [TS]

00:26:33   on Twitter but it was it was pretty [TS]

00:26:35   quiet and I thought it was a pretty darn [TS]

00:26:36   good episode it was very entertaining [TS]

00:26:38   I agree people who did you don't [TS]

00:26:39   remember it you should go back if you [TS]

00:26:40   maybe you're sick and you couldn't [TS]

00:26:42   remember anything about anything listen [TS]

00:26:44   again because you know it'll be new [TS]

00:26:45   years to had so deep in the throes of [TS]

00:26:47   typhoid was i that that having the old [TS]

00:26:49   farts performance Cheech and Chong [TS]

00:26:51   sketch seem like a pretty good idea yeah [TS]

00:26:53   like oh man that's one back [TS]

00:26:56   no well that's why people don't like it [TS]

00:26:58   at some of those [TS]

00:26:58   did you go well you just have to wait [TS]

00:27:01   for them to it in the pre-show rehearsal [TS]

00:27:03   it was it was snappy patter it was like [TS]

00:27:06   you know back and forth it was funnier [TS]

00:27:08   than hell and then by the time that the [TS]

00:27:10   episode started the skype skewed kicked [TS]

00:27:12   in [TS]

00:27:13   you shouldn't you should have recorded [TS]

00:27:14   the pre-show rehearsal and I could [TS]

00:27:16   adjust with that in there as well hey by [TS]

00:27:18   the way Jason thanks a lot for not [TS]

00:27:20   tightening that up at all in [TS]

00:27:21   postcrossing sounded sort of general and [TS]

00:27:25   you're a very similar to be that was [TS]

00:27:27   tightened w that's this city [TS]

00:27:29   out-of-pocket this is exactly how crappy [TS]

00:27:31   it happens I got it I got to be honest [TS]

00:27:34   you but you may not remember it it is [TS]

00:27:35   actually tighten up with all the help of [TS]

00:27:39   five of bad skin 11 of one of you was [TS]

00:27:42   tightened up this is the game show [TS]

00:27:44   episode now you've made me sad yeah [TS]

00:27:47   sorry but i will continue anyway so as [TS]

00:27:50   far as favorite moments from various [TS]

00:27:52   episodes first of all we're going to do [TS]

00:27:54   clips in this shirt shirt on Syracuse's [TS]

00:27:57   it's great when you drop clips yeah [TS]

00:27:59   sewed and then i'm going to pick the [TS]

00:28:01   part in the 2011 clip show episode like [TS]

00:28:05   the Skeletor clip at my goal my goal is [TS]

00:28:11   to create a recursive singularity loop [TS]

00:28:14   and eventually takes over the entire [TS]

00:28:16   annual clip show podcast if we survived [TS]

00:28:18   watching too much Star Trek's these on [TS]

00:28:21   tempo cornfield Steve I loved I loved it [TS]

00:28:23   when we remembered how funny Skeletor [TS]

00:28:26   was from last year in this year's clip [TS]

00:28:29   show that look back on last year so [TS]

00:28:31   listen Laurie liked the cancelled TV [TS]

00:28:36   show draft but she says the TV character [TS]

00:28:39   draft made her laugh from beginning to [TS]

00:28:40   end so i guess my favorite moment steve [TS]

00:28:43   was the drafting of Skeletor yes mr. [TS]

00:28:47   Janus said I laughed so much of the [TS]

00:28:49   character draft that my sister thought i [TS]

00:28:50   was nuts [TS]

00:28:51   well there's a good chance you're [TS]

00:28:53   welcome me mr. Chad road in simply [TS]

00:28:55   saying Skeletor house needs to be sick [TS]

00:29:02   well i'm gonna go with one that's a [TS]

00:29:04   that's close to my heart for various [TS]

00:29:06   reasons and I know somebody's just [TS]

00:29:08   raring to pick him so I better grab him [TS]

00:29:10   now I'm gonna pick a pic Skeletor from [TS]

00:29:13   the Masters of the Universe seems yeah [TS]

00:29:15   yeah so I do not think you should be on [TS]

00:29:19   the show with Tom servo well the beauty [TS]

00:29:21   of Skeletor is that he can die every [TS]

00:29:23   weekend yet miraculously reappeared from [TS]

00:29:25   under the pile of rocks that he was [TS]

00:29:27   buried under in subsequent holds so if [TS]

00:29:30   Anthony tries to send Skeletor the [TS]

00:29:32   cornfield what happens is back to the [TS]

00:29:34   next week [TS]

00:29:35   that's the intention of the show's [TS]

00:29:37   spoilers no spoilers alright okay so [TS]

00:29:39   you're you're pretty clearly it's [TS]

00:29:41   crucial to my plot which which I look [TS]

00:29:44   forward to making up on the candy yeah [TS]

00:29:48   that's appropriate but it's Skeletor is [TS]

00:29:54   the alpha and the omega of our podcast [TS]

00:29:56   he won that draft by killing everyone [TS]

00:29:59   else [TS]

00:30:00   yes well I'm hoping this episode [TS]

00:30:04   actually airs in 2013 so that i can then [TS]

00:30:07   pick the 2014 clip show 2013 clever of [TS]

00:30:12   me picking the clip where we played [TS]

00:30:14   Skeletor clip [TS]

00:30:15   good luck future Steve alright other [TS]

00:30:18   favorite moments I i thought the quick [TS]

00:30:20   the jonathan coulton cameo at the end of [TS]

00:30:22   episode 98 was hilarious hilarious and [TS]

00:30:25   cruel [TS]

00:30:26   we should get more famous people to pop [TS]

00:30:27   in and say one sentence [TS]

00:30:29   well I want to say thank you to [TS]

00:30:30   everybody hey for putting up with me but [TS]

00:30:32   be for a very interesting talk about [TS]

00:30:34   Jonathan Coulton so thank you John Scott [TS]

00:30:36   and Greg thank you thank you x [TS]

00:30:39   thank you thanks sure and that's it [TS]

00:30:43   I don't know how Jason's these things [TS]

00:30:45   hey guys i happen to have the man [TS]

00:30:47   himself jonathan coulton right here with [TS]

00:30:50   me and he has something that you'd like [TS]

00:30:52   to say to you I heard what you were [TS]

00:30:54   saying you know nothing of my work I [TS]

00:30:57   mean how you got to record a podcast [TS]

00:30:59   about anything is totally amazing [TS]

00:31:02   how if only real life worked like this [TS]

00:31:04   and then actually my real favorite [TS]

00:31:06   moment from this year was probably the [TS]

00:31:09   after dark from the movie draft is I [TS]

00:31:11   think the funniest moments are the parts [TS]

00:31:14   where we just go completely bug nuts [TS]

00:31:16   insane and i mean that that particular [TS]

00:31:20   After Dark has the the old prospector [TS]

00:31:24   oh yeah and it also has the bit where [TS]

00:31:29   where Jason realizes that the only way [TS]

00:31:31   he's going to finally get get us off the [TS]

00:31:33   call is to kill us off one boy which is [TS]

00:31:36   just a brilliant sequence and and makes [TS]

00:31:40   me laugh every time I hear that i have [TS]

00:31:41   probably played that after dark more [TS]

00:31:43   than that up I go back every once in [TS]

00:31:46   awhile and play that because there's a [TS]

00:31:47   lot of good stuff in that but that [TS]

00:31:49   you're right i remember that that that [TS]

00:31:50   was a great one [TS]

00:31:51   I'm here to Georgia of the pie care [TS]

00:31:53   through the primary points where is [TS]

00:31:57   weird because Raiders already done I've [TS]

00:32:00   done with my my selections but Alexis [TS]

00:32:03   out [TS]

00:32:03   that's okay Jason anywhere without me [TS]

00:32:07   this will be the wildest podcast in the [TS]

00:32:09   wilderness [TS]

00:32:10   hi my name is that but why would you not [TS]

00:32:16   use that beautiful rose gold boiler or [TS]

00:32:22   that would be the fast it's the spoilers [TS]

00:32:26   we are the people sound like someone who [TS]

00:32:28   just like you're just got spoiled a [TS]

00:32:30   movie and it will boil and boil and [TS]

00:32:33   reduce my father was the wilhelm scream [TS]

00:32:36   doesn't make you hang up first no return [TS]

00:32:53   to know you hang out you and I know you [TS]

00:32:55   I don't start trying to I know [TS]

00:33:00   when when when I say so who's the sucker [TS]

00:33:10   who hung up win [TS]

00:33:11   oh go out but it was hired a rad cast by [TS]

00:33:14   the way can be titled podcast this what [TS]

00:33:18   happens when I don't cancel the podcast [TS]

00:33:20   is that nobody gets up people just yes [TS]

00:33:22   we just wait last one out the button [TS]

00:33:24   no I'm gonna go talking about me I have [TS]

00:33:28   to go home but you can't stay here [TS]

00:33:29   I'm real survivor we have a whole paper [TS]

00:33:32   with the guys know it's like survivor [TS]

00:33:35   you never know who's gonna who's gonna [TS]

00:33:37   go next last person to take the handoff [TS]

00:33:40   the idol I i am as the initiator the [TS]

00:33:42   call i can actually hang people up now [TS]

00:33:44   so I'm like the god of the skype call [TS]

00:33:47   Jason is getting you a tiny vengeful god [TS]

00:33:51   you should have a choice [TS]

00:33:53   back off one by one loss is that means [TS]

00:33:56   on Syracuse's going did it like and then [TS]

00:34:02   there were five that's it sentimental [TS]

00:34:04   Indians this is a locked skype murder [TS]

00:34:07   mr. his skype a transmitter for talking [TS]

00:34:10   to god that's very clever dan-o who a [TS]

00:34:18   little morons guy next let's talk about [TS]

00:34:21   you in his movie sucked [TS]

00:34:24   let's touch your fan baby still Raiders [TS]

00:34:27   yeah it's not like they're really more [TS]

00:34:28   and you really do that Steve what did [TS]

00:34:31   you just sink parody lyrics so let's [TS]

00:34:33   talk about sex i did and they involve [TS]

00:34:35   Mellon oh no point I think I know what's [TS]

00:34:38   going to happen it's just the two of you [TS]

00:34:41   now [TS]

00:34:42   hmm we are your favorites for my least [TS]

00:34:46   favorites [TS]

00:34:46   oh yeah one of the other I'm going to [TS]

00:34:49   bow out now early without that [TS]

00:34:51   distinguish between the wrath of i win [TS]

00:34:55   yeah that was a whole great the whole [TS]

00:34:57   film festival think that being much [TS]

00:34:58   wacky of them i expected and that we [TS]

00:35:01   have like six hours of content out of [TS]

00:35:03   that [TS]

00:35:03   yeah yeah well if you look at the [TS]

00:35:06   archive we ended up doing a recap of it [TS]

00:35:07   the next week when we had had assembled [TS]

00:35:09   are our schedules and it says part 3 of [TS]

00:35:12   two [TS]

00:35:13   just like it's the increasingly in [TS]

00:35:16   accurately named 21 episode that's that [TS]

00:35:19   is very exactly so that's it for twenty [TS]

00:35:23   twelve men had already much better than [TS]

00:35:24   that other than that [TS]

00:35:26   fair enough Lisa Schmeisser I i come to [TS]

00:35:29   you now to ask things you liked sure uh [TS]

00:35:32   let's start with TV i really liked the [TS]

00:35:35   show arrow which which I i dashed off in [TS]

00:35:38   like two sentences when we talk about [TS]

00:35:39   fall TV I said it was better than i [TS]

00:35:41   thought but it wasn't very interesting [TS]

00:35:43   so tell me more i finished on hulu over [TS]

00:35:47   a couple of days and I've caught up all [TS]

00:35:50   the way to the ninth episode and there [TS]

00:35:52   are a number of reasons i like it first [TS]

00:35:53   of all susan thompson who plays Oliver [TS]

00:35:56   Queen's mother is fantastic i think [TS]

00:35:59   she's one of the most underrated [TS]

00:36:00   actresses working on TV right now [TS]

00:36:02   because she's also very good on King's [TS]

00:36:03   she has a certain presence where she [TS]

00:36:05   manages to simultaneously convey a sort [TS]

00:36:07   of a professional warmth you know I like [TS]

00:36:11   Gwyneth Paltrow who does pepper potts [TS]

00:36:12   but at the same time you can always see [TS]

00:36:14   the wheels turning and there's this [TS]

00:36:15   undercurrent of menace in her [TS]

00:36:16   performance that is just riveting so [TS]

00:36:18   arrows worth watching for that the [TS]

00:36:21   action sequences are great and they've [TS]

00:36:23   managed to take some of the best parts [TS]

00:36:25   of the green arrow mythos and discard [TS]

00:36:28   some of the really ridiculous stuff and [TS]

00:36:30   it's a little bit more intelligent than [TS]

00:36:32   most CW shows the only the only the only [TS]

00:36:35   quibble i have a battle that's a local [TS]

00:36:37   that was yeah well now but you have a [TS]

00:36:39   skillet easily quickly i have is that it [TS]

00:36:41   once again there's like a cabal of [TS]

00:36:42   people who run the who run everything [TS]

00:36:44   and they have to be brought to justice [TS]

00:36:46   and i'm just getting really tired of the [TS]

00:36:48   one world conspiracy as a conceited TV [TS]

00:36:50   shows but its its light entertainment it [TS]

00:36:54   might be a good on comic adjacent way to [TS]

00:36:57   get into the green arrow especially if [TS]

00:36:59   you were to go to write like when your [TS]

00:37:00   nerve the comic friends and say okay I [TS]

00:37:02   really liked the show then the person [TS]

00:37:04   consider great you know read the long [TS]

00:37:06   bow hunters are great read the kevin [TS]

00:37:07   smith run or what have you and it sort [TS]

00:37:08   of fits into the whole continuum and [TS]

00:37:10   again it's not thinking entertainment [TS]

00:37:12   you know you're not going to watch and [TS]

00:37:13   come away all of this is a metaphor for [TS]

00:37:15   you know humanity learn something about [TS]

00:37:17   the arrow taught me something important [TS]

00:37:18   about man's inhumanity to man it's not [TS]

00:37:21   what you know it's not only shows where [TS]

00:37:22   people were our critics are going to [TS]

00:37:24   endlessly with her on like they do about [TS]

00:37:25   mad men or breaking bad but ya know but [TS]

00:37:30   you know this is actually the year i got [TS]

00:37:31   the appreciation for what I'd call [TS]

00:37:32   mid-level TV or comfort TV because I i [TS]

00:37:35   became a huge fan of alphas and haven on [TS]

00:37:38   the SyFy channel and those are certainly [TS]

00:37:40   shows where you can kind of dip in a nap [TS]

00:37:43   there's a little bit of mythology but [TS]

00:37:44   every episode is kind of self-contained [TS]

00:37:46   with you know freaky mutant of the week [TS]

00:37:47   I was sick a few weeks back and i was [TS]

00:37:49   thinking what do I want to watch and I [TS]

00:37:50   could have watched breaking bad i could [TS]

00:37:52   watch mad men and i ended up watching [TS]

00:37:53   season 1 episodes of supernatural [TS]

00:37:55   because the fact is there's some shows [TS]

00:37:58   that that you want to watch when you're [TS]

00:38:00   you're laying on the couch under a [TS]

00:38:01   blanket and don't feel well and the end [TS]

00:38:03   it's not necessarily the highest art [TS]

00:38:05   that you want [TS]

00:38:07   yeah it's chicken noodle soup and [TS]

00:38:09   sometimes that's all you want is it the [TS]

00:38:11   end of a long day when you when you use [TS]

00:38:12   your brain and then you had to match [TS]

00:38:14   what the toddler and you probably lost [TS]

00:38:15   then you that you just want something [TS]

00:38:19   that's oh look it's the story I want to [TS]

00:38:21   see how it turns out [TS]

00:38:22   so other other stuff you have any books [TS]

00:38:24   or comics or other things but the movies [TS]

00:38:26   cake movies [TS]

00:38:28   see I enjoyed the adventures as a [TS]

00:38:29   spectacle a lot you know I realize you [TS]

00:38:32   can drive from a Helicarrier through [TS]

00:38:34   some of plot holes there's a lot of [TS]

00:38:35   dependent a lot it doesn't make sense [TS]

00:38:36   and you know fanservice fanservice [TS]

00:38:39   setting up an item but it was a lot it [TS]

00:38:41   was a lot of fun to watch and it was fun [TS]

00:38:42   to see somebody charismatic and good [TS]

00:38:44   actors in one place doing doing [TS]

00:38:46   entertainment you know I've seen I've [TS]

00:38:48   seen it three times now because i bought [TS]

00:38:49   the blu-ray and yes you're right all [TS]

00:38:52   that there are lots of cooking [TS]

00:38:52   criticisms you can level at in fact is I [TS]

00:38:55   enjoy that time [TS]

00:38:56   yeah every time in terms of comics [TS]

00:38:59   continue to really enjoy scalped even [TS]

00:39:01   though it ended this year wrapped up and [TS]

00:39:03   I swear probably person Americans [TS]

00:39:04   talking about it [TS]

00:39:05   I loved that loved lock and key which we [TS]

00:39:08   read for coming and we're going to have [TS]

00:39:09   to talk about the forthcoming to be in [TS]

00:39:11   2013 and we'll talk about walking key in [TS]

00:39:13   the next comic book club that's press [TS]

00:39:14   and and love that and I should mention [TS]

00:39:18   in case I don't mention it later [TS]

00:39:20   since you're on the subject of comics [TS]

00:39:22   that I i really enjoyed great pox [TS]

00:39:24   extreme x-men which is a terrible title [TS]

00:39:27   what is totally [TS]

00:39:28   fun crazy apart parallel universe [TS]

00:39:31   hopping x-men with a savior floating [TS]

00:39:34   head in a jar and that's that's what i [TS]

00:39:36   wanted my economics is is that level of [TS]

00:39:38   kind of craziness any podcast related [TS]

00:39:41   thoughts for the past year i think i [TS]

00:39:44   think the podcast i had the most fun on [TS]

00:39:46   this year actually was the parenting one [TS]

00:39:48   and one of the reasons i did and pardon [TS]

00:39:52   me for very into amateur sociology but i [TS]

00:39:55   think that the practice of mothering in [TS]

00:39:59   the u.s. is slightly different than the [TS]

00:40:00   practice of fathering in part because [TS]

00:40:02   there's so much media aimed at mothers [TS]

00:40:04   and and the practices and and you know [TS]

00:40:06   are you doing this greater you doing [TS]

00:40:07   that right and it was so nice to to hang [TS]

00:40:10   with a bunch of people who like if you [TS]

00:40:12   know what their small people and we just [TS]

00:40:14   do this with them I don't beat myself up [TS]

00:40:16   over it i'm not worried about how this [TS]

00:40:18   is gonna play out 20 years down the line [TS]

00:40:19   and I'm not judging myself by it and it [TS]

00:40:22   was it was eye-opening to it was [TS]

00:40:24   eye-opening to realize that to realize [TS]

00:40:28   the Gulf and parenting cultures as it [TS]

00:40:29   was and and I enjoyed the experience of [TS]

00:40:32   a lot so so i think that was my favorite [TS]

00:40:35   yeah we got a nice nice comment from [TS]

00:40:38   adam highland who has written to us a [TS]

00:40:42   bunch as the proton k yes the real [TS]

00:40:45   proton k or proton as we sometimes like [TS]

00:40:48   to say and his pick for best 2012 moment [TS]

00:40:51   was in the parenting episode which I [TS]

00:40:53   thought this was nice i love despite my [TS]

00:40:55   fears about parenting related podcasts [TS]

00:40:58   and enjoyed least misers growing mix of [TS]

00:41:02   delight horror and fascination upon [TS]

00:41:04   hearing John Syracuse's plan for [TS]

00:41:05   indoctrinating his children in the [TS]

00:41:06   correct order and framing of the Star [TS]

00:41:08   Wars movies it's the Nicene Creed it's [TS]

00:41:13   true he just has this planned out like [TS]

00:41:15   he had actually sat down and got all [TS]

00:41:17   right you know how am I going to do this [TS]

00:41:18   and this is what we deeply believe in [TS]

00:41:20   something like you gotyou got the idea [TS]

00:41:22   to maybe there were some storyboards [TS]

00:41:23   there [TS]

00:41:24   my main concern was to ensure that what [TS]

00:41:27   they thought of as Star Wars was what I [TS]

00:41:30   thought of a star and so I knew that [TS]

00:41:34   once they came became school-aged and [TS]

00:41:36   like got older all their friends [TS]

00:41:39   who have parents that don't know these [TS]

00:41:41   rules are going to be telling them about [TS]

00:41:43   because the people and so I had I had to [TS]

00:41:48   cement in their little minds that star [TS]

00:41:51   wars Luke Skywalker Princess Leia Han [TS]

00:41:53   Solo Chewbacca c-3po you know like I had [TS]

00:41:55   like that is star wars so that by the [TS]

00:41:57   time they inevitably enter the world of [TS]

00:41:59   their peers in kindergarten [TS]

00:42:01   you know and regular elementary school [TS]

00:42:03   and all their friends tell the battle is [TS]

00:42:04   pretty cool stuff that will be like like [TS]

00:42:07   explain expanded universe John if you [TS]

00:42:10   don't explain the prequels to your kids [TS]

00:42:12   are only gonna hear about it on the [TS]

00:42:13   street man hit us the thing i knew they [TS]

00:42:17   were going to hear about it from their [TS]

00:42:19   friends I just wanted to really lay down [TS]

00:42:22   those tracks of like this is what star [TS]

00:42:24   wars is it and almost didn't care so [TS]

00:42:26   much if they were like excited like [TS]

00:42:28   dinner whenever I just wanted to think [TS]

00:42:29   of this star wars and then this is other [TS]

00:42:31   crazy stuff and I know it's weird to use [TS]

00:42:32   expanding universe to explain to the [TS]

00:42:34   expanding universe is a real thing [TS]

00:42:35   within the star wars universe but i'm [TS]

00:42:37   i'm trying to say let's push the [TS]

00:42:39   prequels out and right there's the [TS]

00:42:40   cannon right and then there's the like [TS]

00:42:43   sort of non you know not really cannon [TS]

00:42:46   right and I was like those out of there [TS]

00:42:48   push the prequels because this star wars [TS]

00:42:50   games like they play lego star wars all [TS]

00:42:52   those things like a nice nap so what I [TS]

00:42:53   did was I showed those like the Star [TS]

00:42:55   Wars version of the Nicene Creed where [TS]

00:42:57   you just decided what's dr. no it's not [TS]

00:42:59   it's it's started storing those are my [TS]

00:43:02   biggest reason the star wars honestly [TS]

00:43:04   believe we believe in one star in a [TS]

00:43:06   galaxy far far away where Luke Skywalker [TS]

00:43:09   is the protagonist believe in three star [TS]

00:43:11   wars so i showed my on my son a new hope [TS]

00:43:14   first it's the truth yeah you run the [TS]

00:43:19   risk of having the ostracized kids who [TS]

00:43:20   can't talk the prequels with their [TS]

00:43:22   little friends on the playground when [TS]

00:43:23   you like the kids who didn't have TV [TS]

00:43:25   they're gonna start knocking on doors [TS]

00:43:27   does anyone else have like imagine a [TS]

00:43:30   little circus on the playground like [TS]

00:43:32   chastising his is his fellow [TS]

00:43:34   six-year-olds that like this is not [TS]

00:43:36   pleased besides are only three movies [TS]

00:43:39   and Star Wars of the unbelievers [TS]

00:43:43   the unbelievers in the name of the son [TS]

00:43:45   and of the father that's impossible and [TS]

00:43:48   the force [TS]

00:43:49   loading Yoda but uh but yeah so I [TS]

00:43:53   thought his comment was great in the [TS]

00:43:54   sense to that I was a little worried [TS]

00:43:56   when we talked about parenting stuff too [TS]

00:43:57   and I'm glad to hear his comment which [TS]

00:44:00   is that you know he viewed with dread [TS]

00:44:02   and then he listened to me and he liked [TS]

00:44:04   it and I thought that was good i think i [TS]

00:44:05   thought that was a really nice [TS]

00:44:06   discussion about how how we as parents [TS]

00:44:08   deal with what we expose our kids to [TS]

00:44:11   those are great that's great [TS]

00:44:13   a serenity Caldwell yes i do you have [TS]

00:44:17   things that you inhaled into your brain [TS]

00:44:19   and 2012 that you'd like knows about [TS]

00:44:21   that the phrase that will stay with me [TS]

00:44:22   forever now from our last show i am glad [TS]

00:44:26   that I have been able to you know [TS]

00:44:28   yeah give such a wonderful phrase to the [TS]

00:44:31   podcast [TS]

00:44:32   yeah i was looking over my list I've [TS]

00:44:35   been taking pictures of all like my [TS]

00:44:36   ticket stubs and things like that to try [TS]

00:44:38   and actually remember what movies i saw [TS]

00:44:39   this year because it's been a very jam [TS]

00:44:41   packed yet I feel like I agree with Lisa [TS]

00:44:43   and that there it's it hasn't really [TS]

00:44:45   been a super fascinating year for movies [TS]

00:44:49   and TV but I still feel like I as you [TS]

00:44:53   like to put it I inhaled a lot into my [TS]

00:44:55   brain [TS]

00:44:56   despite all of that I came up with three [TS]

00:45:00   movies that really stand out from the [TS]

00:45:01   past year and I'll go in order of [TS]

00:45:03   watching on the first I actually saw at [TS]

00:45:07   South by Southwest at its South by [TS]

00:45:09   Southwest premiere which was safety not [TS]

00:45:11   guaranteed which is a very very cute [TS]

00:45:14   cute little time travel film about a [TS]

00:45:20   series of or a couple of kit while two [TS]

00:45:23   kids two interns and a news reporter [TS]

00:45:26   going out basically into the boonies to [TS]

00:45:28   investigate a guy who's put out a [TS]

00:45:30   classified ad to you know [TS]

00:45:32   warning i want to i want to find [TS]

00:45:34   somebody to go back in time with me this [TS]

00:45:35   is not a joke must bring your own [TS]

00:45:37   weapons and I don't know if you manage [TS]

00:45:40   to get a chance to see it Jason it is [TS]

00:45:41   very it is adorable it starts up the [TS]

00:45:45   plaza from from parks and recreation and [TS]

00:45:49   she she is so happy in this movie [TS]

00:45:52   despite she still has her sort of [TS]

00:45:54   trademarks cowl from park [TS]

00:45:56   and wreck but it is at the same time a [TS]

00:45:58   completely different character than [TS]

00:45:59   you've ever seen her playing and it's it [TS]

00:46:02   is such a delightful film to watch both [TS]

00:46:06   from a good character standpoint and [TS]

00:46:09   from a oh my god time-travel this is so [TS]

00:46:12   adorable it reminds me a lot into like [TS]

00:46:14   totally of of Johnny Five a little bit [TS]

00:46:18   which is weird because they're yeah [TS]

00:46:20   they're not they're nothing alike [TS]

00:46:21   because there's no robots in this movie [TS]

00:46:23   sadly but spoilers but it's still it's [TS]

00:46:27   very sweet [TS]

00:46:28   it's very adorable it's a commentary on [TS]

00:46:31   both time travel movies and living your [TS]

00:46:35   life and being able to let go of the [TS]

00:46:36   past and how the past affects your your [TS]

00:46:39   day-to-day choices I so I i really [TS]

00:46:43   really adored that movie and seeing it [TS]

00:46:45   at South by Southwest with the cast and [TS]

00:46:47   a very excited full audience at the [TS]

00:46:51   Paramount Theater definitely helped and [TS]

00:46:53   I saw it again in September with dan [TS]

00:46:57   Morin and a couple of my friends and I [TS]

00:47:00   was like no it still is good it's a [TS]

00:47:02   really really sweet film so i encourage [TS]

00:47:03   everybody who did not get a chance to [TS]

00:47:05   see safety not guaranteed when it's in [TS]

00:47:06   theaters to go pick it up on iTunes or [TS]

00:47:09   Amazon because it's it is a great little [TS]

00:47:11   time touch that you you said I don't [TS]

00:47:12   know if Jason you've you've seen it all [TS]

00:47:15   I i don't think i've actually even heard [TS]

00:47:17   of it so i would also seek it out now [TS]

00:47:19   but I don't think I even knew about that [TS]

00:47:20   movie I mean it was a it was in indie [TS]

00:47:22   film that I played plead regionally I [TS]

00:47:26   don't think it ever got full nationwide [TS]

00:47:29   nationwide building in theaters down for [TS]

00:47:32   the government out alright [TS]

00:47:33   yes it is I'm so there's that and then [TS]

00:47:36   my my other big movie choice would be [TS]

00:47:41   Moonrise Kingdom which is another indie [TS]

00:47:43   film but i think a few more people saw [TS]

00:47:45   and that is like it's a Wes Anderson [TS]

00:47:50   movie so when you go when you know that [TS]

00:47:52   going in you know you're going in for a [TS]

00:47:53   very specific sort of sort of tale but [TS]

00:47:58   it was very it's very sweet it was [TS]

00:48:00   basically you know fantastic mr fox west [TS]

00:48:04   anderson was actually tackling more or [TS]

00:48:06   less a fairytale but I feel like [TS]

00:48:07   Moonrise Kingdom [TS]

00:48:09   is the actual realization of him [TS]

00:48:11   tackling a fairy tale where he decided [TS]

00:48:12   let's make a movie about children and [TS]

00:48:15   how children think and the imaginations [TS]

00:48:20   and the fleeting you know we're going to [TS]

00:48:22   run away and we're going to found our [TS]

00:48:24   own place and we're going to you know [TS]

00:48:27   we're going to be adults and the [TS]

00:48:28   realization of how that actually [TS]

00:48:30   translates in the real world it was [TS]

00:48:34   utterly charming very sweet very very [TS]

00:48:37   West Anderson but i like it doesn't [TS]

00:48:42   quite top Rushmore for me which is I [TS]

00:48:44   think my favorite Wes Anderson movie but [TS]

00:48:47   it comes very close and it's it is [TS]

00:48:50   definitely one of those if people had [TS]

00:48:52   never watched a Wes Anderson movie I [TS]

00:48:54   might recommend Moonrise Kingdom to them [TS]

00:48:56   over Rushmore and be like this is [TS]

00:48:58   actually you know while it is still very [TS]

00:49:00   much a Wes Anderson movie i think it's [TS]

00:49:02   actually his most his most widely widely [TS]

00:49:07   acceptable like the the best one to sort [TS]

00:49:10   of give to a wider audience and say here [TS]

00:49:12   this is kind of what west anderson is [TS]

00:49:14   about don't believe the stereotype so so [TS]

00:49:18   yes I like that one quite a bit LOL [TS]

00:49:20   tenenbaums is my favorite I'll overall [TS]

00:49:23   10 monsters I didn't like that 1i like [TS]

00:49:24   rush like Rushmore a lot of pressure on [TS]

00:49:28   Wilson the cowboy hat that just gets me [TS]

00:49:29   every time [TS]

00:49:30   but but Owen Owen Wilson has great parts [TS]

00:49:35   in west anderson movies I I can't get [TS]

00:49:37   over him and he's in bottle rocket i [TS]

00:49:39   believe is and then I have to tip my hat [TS]

00:49:42   towards the Avengers because i really [TS]

00:49:44   enjoyed that I love justin is writing i [TS]

00:49:48   love [TS]

00:49:49   well done big movie spectacles that's [TS]

00:49:52   like it doesn't it doesn't need to make [TS]

00:49:54   sense entirely once I walk out of the [TS]

00:49:56   theater as long as you keep me engaged [TS]

00:49:58   and involved the entire time while I'm [TS]

00:50:01   watching it [TS]

00:50:02   ya did ya yet he did it with a bullet [TS]

00:50:05   that but that movie so easily could have [TS]

00:50:06   been a legend just you know let's cash [TS]

00:50:09   in just a bore and awful and I I know [TS]

00:50:12   Andy and I co thinks that it was but oh [TS]

00:50:14   yeah he put that down [TS]

00:50:15   he put that thing on Twitter the other [TS]

00:50:16   day like the 63 things that are wrong [TS]

00:50:18   with the Avengers in under three minutes [TS]

00:50:20   and okay yes you're fine and and again [TS]

00:50:23   let's emphasize they put an archer up [TS]

00:50:25   against the alien army but it was still [TS]

00:50:27   so much stuff and it was a great [TS]

00:50:30   yes yeah you can't help but get a little [TS]

00:50:32   glee in your heart when you watch [TS]

00:50:33   somebody firing and you know an arrow [TS]

00:50:35   that contains a bomb at a giant alien [TS]

00:50:37   ship and i was just reading Alan [TS]

00:50:41   Sepinwall book about the I think like [TS]

00:50:44   eight series that changed 12-month [TS]

00:50:47   series the same yeah yeah the Revolution [TS]

00:50:49   was televised is the name of it and i [TS]

00:50:50   was reading the the buffy chapter and he [TS]

00:50:52   was talking about the Avengers and about [TS]

00:50:54   about serenity to not the one on the [TS]

00:50:57   podcast the movie of the same name and [TS]

00:50:59   uh get referred he reminded me he [TS]

00:51:02   reminded me that uh that that serenity [TS]

00:51:05   has the same trait that the Avengers has [TS]

00:51:08   in that although it's not super serious [TS]

00:51:12   or anything like that it's fun and I [TS]

00:51:13   remember coming out of that movie [TS]

00:51:14   thinking that's what the kind of sci-fi [TS]

00:51:16   movie I want to see I want to come out [TS]

00:51:18   being like God that was that was so much [TS]

00:51:19   fun [TS]

00:51:20   which is how I left like the Star Wars [TS]

00:51:22   movies when when I saw those and the [TS]

00:51:24   Avengers you know it's like that it's [TS]

00:51:26   it's it's it's fun it's a fun movie yeah [TS]

00:51:29   there's a common i read in Wired [TS]

00:51:30   magazine about 12 years ago that's [TS]

00:51:32   always stuck with me which said if you [TS]

00:51:33   want to figure out what scientists are [TS]

00:51:34   going to do 20 years from now you should [TS]

00:51:36   read side fine now because if you have a [TS]

00:51:39   set if you have a store with a sense of [TS]

00:51:40   excitement and fun and discovery this is [TS]

00:51:43   what sticks in people's brains and they [TS]

00:51:44   want to do that would make up the same [TS]

00:51:45   way that I think people who went to [TS]

00:51:47   school the same time Jason I did I think [TS]

00:51:50   we all wanted to be on the space shuttle [TS]

00:51:51   and living in space for a while you know [TS]

00:51:53   I think everybody have that that [TS]

00:51:55   astronaut moment in the eighties from [TS]

00:51:56   star wars in the space shuttle they like [TS]

00:51:58   that and like you said there's it as [TS]

00:52:01   much as i enjoy post-apocalyptic [TS]

00:52:02   post-apocalyptic sci-fi and I run a lot [TS]

00:52:05   of ye dystopia and and I enjoy that too [TS]

00:52:08   there's a lot to be said for for when [TS]

00:52:10   there's fantasy and adventure in sci-fi [TS]

00:52:12   where it's like we're in space does this [TS]

00:52:15   kick-ass isn't this cool you know of we [TS]

00:52:18   that there's a lot to be said for that [TS]

00:52:19   as a halt [TS]

00:52:20   yes and there's a Hulk there's a whole [TS]

00:52:23   group major major ups for solving the [TS]

00:52:26   whole problem right just weed was like I [TS]

00:52:28   know how you doing it well yeah yeah [TS]

00:52:31   deploy him on a limited basis and make [TS]

00:52:33   sure he's played by my [TS]

00:52:34   Buffalo who at the casting in Avengers [TS]

00:52:37   was just so good because if if they [TS]

00:52:38   hadn't cast everybody the way they did [TS]

00:52:40   it really could have been awful but you [TS]

00:52:43   know if I'm not sure there's anybody [TS]

00:52:45   would have recast now permanently [TS]

00:52:48   watchman where you could take off half [TS]

00:52:49   the cast and say that would have been [TS]

00:52:50   better with somebody else in the [TS]

00:52:51   Avengers right Randy have any uh any uh [TS]

00:52:55   diagonally red looks that you liked to [TS]

00:52:58   get their picture i have i have a couple [TS]

00:53:01   actually so the the two that came out [TS]

00:53:03   this year and funny enough 2012 was [TS]

00:53:06   definitely a year for reading books from [TS]

00:53:08   the past for me i have a lot i'm looking [TS]

00:53:10   at my Goodreads list and I have a lot of [TS]

00:53:13   books that i read that are actually from [TS]

00:53:14   you know 5 10 15 mins behind 50 years [TS]

00:53:18   ago yeah what was it what you consumed [TS]

00:53:20   this year not what Kim yeah yeah I'm so [TS]

00:53:23   the two books that i consumed this year [TS]

00:53:24   that were actually came out this year is [TS]

00:53:26   number one which i think is probably my [TS]

00:53:28   favorite book of the year is erin [TS]

00:53:30   morgenstern the night circus [TS]

00:53:32   Oh which i still need to buy in [TS]

00:53:34   hardcover because that that is the kind [TS]

00:53:36   of book that I want on my shelf for the [TS]

00:53:38   rest of my life and I want to be able to [TS]

00:53:40   loan it people own to people that will [TS]

00:53:41   because i think it's so perfectly [TS]

00:53:43   it's so perfectly captures the the [TS]

00:53:47   beauty of a good fantasy story and [TS]

00:53:50   close-knit relationships it's such a [TS]

00:53:52   fascinating book the imagery is so vivid [TS]

00:53:55   the writing is almost poetic in its [TS]

00:53:59   beauty and it like I i love that book [TS]

00:54:03   because I can open it up and read a [TS]

00:54:05   paragraph and be completely subsumed [TS]

00:54:08   into the world and not many authors can [TS]

00:54:11   do that well and erin morgenstern really [TS]

00:54:13   really showed a talent for doing that [TS]

00:54:15   and I'm i cannot wait to see where she's [TS]

00:54:17   going to so like that that is my number [TS]

00:54:20   one book I can't like I can't even talk [TS]

00:54:22   that much about the plot because I just [TS]

00:54:24   I don't want to spoil anything it's just [TS]

00:54:26   more this book is amazing [TS]

00:54:28   oh yeah and everybody should go read it [TS]

00:54:30   so that's one and then another one is [TS]

00:54:34   actually an old a new book at once which [TS]

00:54:36   is to say it's some hope Larson's [TS]

00:54:38   wrinkle in time graphic novel which came [TS]

00:54:43   out this fall and I mean wrinkle in time [TS]

00:54:46   has long been [TS]

00:54:47   one of my favorite books and was one of [TS]

00:54:48   my favorite books in childhood and [TS]

00:54:50   clearly it was one of Hope Larson's as [TS]

00:54:53   well because she pour so much love and [TS]

00:54:56   respect for Madeleine L'Engle is work [TS]

00:54:59   and adapts it so pitch perfectly like [TS]

00:55:01   that is that is a very difficult book to [TS]

00:55:04   try and adapt into a graphic novel what [TS]

00:55:07   I mean you have the dark thing and you [TS]

00:55:09   have you have picked the tesseract alone [TS]

00:55:12   would be on my gosh [TS]

00:55:13   and she she does it so well like i am [TS]

00:55:17   i'm really impressed na three-tone book [TS]

00:55:19   to it's not you know it's not in full [TS]

00:55:21   color it's a it's black and blue and [TS]

00:55:24   some shades of some shades of gray and [TS]

00:55:27   she just does somet so much great work i [TS]

00:55:30   mean i've i've been a fan of larsen [TS]

00:55:32   since her first graphic novel but [TS]

00:55:35   wrinkle and time is really really a [TS]

00:55:38   masterpiece [TS]

00:55:39   I'm and it's something I'm really [TS]

00:55:41   excited to you know I i have some [TS]

00:55:45   cousins who are smaller and it's very [TS]

00:55:48   much i'm so excited to be able to start [TS]

00:55:50   showing them this as a way to sort of [TS]

00:55:53   get them hooked onto bigger books [TS]

00:55:55   because i really think you know the [TS]

00:55:57   wrinkle in time is a is a book that is [TS]

00:56:00   ness you know not it's written towards [TS]

00:56:02   children but it has a lot of big ideas [TS]

00:56:03   and it sort of gets you thinking in a [TS]

00:56:05   bigger world scape and the idea of space [TS]

00:56:08   and the idea of multi dimensional travel [TS]

00:56:11   and it gets your senses really excited [TS]

00:56:13   and to be able to sort of start kids who [TS]

00:56:16   maybe aren't so interested in reading [TS]

00:56:17   400-page books like look here's a [TS]

00:56:19   graphic novel it has pretty pictures but [TS]

00:56:21   it also has really really interesting [TS]

00:56:23   substance to it so I'm that's definitely [TS]

00:56:27   am a Christmas present for several of my [TS]

00:56:30   family members who this year [TS]

00:56:32   yeah so the last set of books that i [TS]

00:56:35   wanted to mention her sort of older [TS]

00:56:37   older books that i started reading this [TS]

00:56:39   year one of which was Jasper Ford's [TS]

00:56:42   thursday next series which of which i [TS]

00:56:43   had read the fourth book something [TS]

00:56:46   rotten in 2005 on an airplane because I [TS]

00:56:50   needed something to read and I'm like oh [TS]

00:56:51   Shakespeare this sounds like it could be [TS]

00:56:53   fun and I got hooked but then [TS]

00:56:56   subsequently never picked up the other [TS]

00:56:58   books in the series [TS]

00:56:59   these and had no idea what was going on [TS]

00:57:01   so coming back to those books starting [TS]

00:57:03   from the beginning in 2012 was very [TS]

00:57:06   strange and very delightful because it [TS]

00:57:09   is a great series of books for people [TS]

00:57:10   who love literature and love literature [TS]

00:57:13   literary in jokes [TS]

00:57:15   it's very very funny and very British [TS]

00:57:18   and very well sure but uh but is it [TS]

00:57:21   great a great series of books [TS]

00:57:23   very clever so I'm I've been enjoying [TS]

00:57:27   working my way through those I'm now on [TS]

00:57:29   the second set of those books and I [TS]

00:57:31   think again we have a jasper fforde [TS]

00:57:34   podcast plan at some point so i will [TS]

00:57:35   save most of my rambling for that and [TS]

00:57:38   then Neal Stephenson's diamond age I [TS]

00:57:41   just got through this year [TS]

00:57:43   ah yeah that is a book you know I did [TS]

00:57:47   not think that books at you know 25 [TS]

00:57:50   still had the ability to change the way [TS]

00:57:52   i think but a diamond age is really [TS]

00:57:56   really remarkable [TS]

00:57:57   I told you I told you I i know i know [TS]

00:58:00   it's not that I didn't believe you I [TS]

00:58:02   just had I had so many books to read and [TS]

00:58:04   I finally picked that up and within two [TS]

00:58:06   chapters i was completely hooked and [TS]

00:58:09   just absolutely fascinated by it so I [TS]

00:58:11   really really enjoyed diamond age [TS]

00:58:14   another book I've got to get to put on [TS]

00:58:16   myself [TS]

00:58:17   yeah but broke my heart oh my god it is [TS]

00:58:21   tragic and beautiful and fascinating all [TS]

00:58:25   at once [TS]

00:58:26   anything else couple TV show all right [TS]

00:58:29   so when I actually just started very [TS]

00:58:32   recently and just discovered is a very [TS]

00:58:35   cute little british show called spy [TS]

00:58:38   that's all I love that hulu right now it [TS]

00:58:40   is on hulu right now and i had never [TS]

00:58:42   heard of it and hulu got syndication for [TS]

00:58:46   it for its second season it might have [TS]

00:58:48   gotten syndication for its for the first [TS]

00:58:50   that's yeah it's got all of them [TS]

00:58:51   yeah well its got all of them but i [TS]

00:58:53   didn't i didn't actually hear about it [TS]

00:58:55   until its second season started running [TS]

00:58:56   and so one of one day while I was [TS]

00:58:58   cleaning my apartment i just got a [TS]

00:59:00   television and I [TS]

00:59:01   an apple TV so I hooked that up and I [TS]

00:59:03   thought hey you know I want something to [TS]

00:59:05   to play while I'm cleaning up in the [TS]

00:59:08   background and this seems like a [TS]

00:59:09   suitably adorable show and I play it and [TS]

00:59:12   I i was hooked [TS]

00:59:14   it's it kind of reminds me a little bit [TS]

00:59:16   of space and a riddle a little bit of [TS]

00:59:18   arrested development with a side of [TS]

00:59:20   Spooks thrown in [TS]

00:59:22   it's a 10 funny little amalgam of a show [TS]

00:59:25   with great great character actors but [TS]

00:59:29   the the basic plot is there's a you know [TS]

00:59:32   30-something guy who has a ten-year-old [TS]

00:59:36   kid he works in a computer store his kid [TS]

00:59:39   is super brilliant kind of think Peter [TS]

00:59:41   from ender's game and looks down upon [TS]

00:59:45   his father as being a complete washout [TS]

00:59:47   and horrible and so his father decides [TS]

00:59:51   you know what I'm gonna make my son [TS]

00:59:53   proud of me and also because my my wife [TS]

00:59:55   and I just divorced I need to figure out [TS]

00:59:57   a way to win custody of my son [TS]

00:59:59   so I'm going [TS]

00:59:59   so I'm going [TS]

01:00:00   you go and get a better job than working [TS]

01:00:01   at a computer shop and I'm going to you [TS]

01:00:03   know rise above and so he applies for a [TS]

01:00:05   job working for the government and on [TS]

01:00:09   the day of his his interview he [TS]

01:00:12   accidentally wandered into the wrong rum [TS]

01:00:14   and takes an exam that ends up being for [TS]

01:00:17   mi5 so he ends up becoming part of the [TS]

01:00:24   service and has to covertly learn how to [TS]

01:00:30   be an intelligence officer while [TS]

01:00:32   basically being the bumbling straight [TS]

01:00:33   man of this ridiculous 22-minute comedy [TS]

01:00:37   and the music is also very catchy i have [TS]

01:00:41   it kind of running through my head while [TS]

01:00:42   i'm talking it's it's very upbeat very [TS]

01:00:45   cute the the person who plays his son [TS]

01:00:49   dude right who plays Marcus is just [TS]

01:00:52   hilarious and has the best facial [TS]

01:00:55   expressions and the show is so smart [TS]

01:00:59   the this the series ender for the first [TS]

01:01:02   series [TS]

01:01:03   I Marcus just whips out the word [TS]

01:01:05   habitude pneus is like how tenure so [TS]

01:01:08   have a tunas I can't take this life [TS]

01:01:10   anymore and it's like at that point my [TS]

01:01:13   my heart was was the show's forever [TS]

01:01:16   it was it's so cute another thing I [TS]

01:01:18   haven't even heard of [TS]

01:01:19   oh you have to you have to yeah it's [TS]

01:01:21   very short I mean it's a series of 22 [TS]

01:01:23   minute episodes and it's very funny you [TS]

01:01:25   would enjoy it a lot [TS]

01:01:26   alright i'll put it on the list boy the [TS]

01:01:28   lists keep getting longer but there's a [TS]

01:01:30   whole other year because you watch the [TS]

01:01:32   IT crowd right [TS]

01:01:33   yes some of it probably about half of it [TS]

01:01:35   because you know that the boss on the IT [TS]

01:01:38   crowd there are shades of him in the [TS]

01:01:39   boss for mi5 and that that only makes it [TS]

01:01:41   more hilarious [TS]

01:01:43   alright new things new things new things [TS]

01:01:46   are great and I also liked the hour this [TS]

01:01:48   year although that isn't really that's [TS]

01:01:49   less John room but oh god we have those [TS]

01:01:52   stocked up on the do i like i like the [TS]

01:01:55   hour although that was when a BBC [TS]

01:01:56   america was not on my TV and HD yet and [TS]

01:01:59   it was kind of painful to watch them and [TS]

01:02:01   I'm then I lost one off the DVR so i [TS]

01:02:04   need to hopefully those will be [TS]

01:02:05   surfacing on some streaming service that [TS]

01:02:08   I subscribe to so I can catch up or or [TS]

01:02:12   maybe when maybe bc [TS]

01:02:13   America will repeat them before they [TS]

01:02:15   show the new episodes because I got a [TS]

01:02:17   serious yeah I liked I liked what I saw [TS]

01:02:19   it and then I kind of got away from me [TS]

01:02:21   and you know it's never it's never you [TS]

01:02:25   never get tired of seeing Jimmy McNulty [TS]

01:02:27   speak with an English accent yeah you [TS]

01:02:31   know [TS]

01:02:31   dominic west and he's great and uh I can [TS]

01:02:34   never remember her name but the female [TS]

01:02:36   Romola Reimer I is great it's great it's [TS]

01:02:39   great [TS]

01:02:40   yes I i may have gotten series 2 from [TS]

01:02:45   British and i will say no trailers [TS]

01:02:49   screen only exactly to screen copies [TS]

01:02:52   that series is really impressive and [TS]

01:02:57   really builds upon the work they did in [TS]

01:03:01   series one and i think is much better [TS]

01:03:03   than series 1i it just I i am now [TS]

01:03:07   crossing my fingers that they renew it [TS]

01:03:09   for a third series because it would be [TS]

01:03:10   very very sad if if series 2 was the [TS]

01:03:13   last series of the hour so BBC please [TS]

01:03:17   please me this show right [TS]

01:03:19   do you have any uh what about the [TS]

01:03:21   podcast any podcast thoughts anything [TS]

01:03:23   you like my cast thoughts [TS]

01:03:24   no I am enjoying no no podcast thought [TS]

01:03:28   station i'm really enjoying all the [TS]

01:03:30   books that we've been reading on book [TS]

01:03:31   club [TS]

01:03:32   i my my book reading list for the year [TS]

01:03:35   has been better that it has been in the [TS]

01:03:38   last five years and i've just i've been [TS]

01:03:40   reading so much partially because of the [TS]

01:03:42   incomparable and partially because some [TS]

01:03:44   of the things we talked about lead me [TS]

01:03:46   two more books that i haven't read or [TS]

01:03:48   more shows that i haven't watched and i [TS]

01:03:50   love the recycling and the you know the [TS]

01:03:54   growing of new information it makes it [TS]

01:03:57   makes me feel very very excited about [TS]

01:04:00   literature and about geeky things so [TS]

01:04:04   it's just sort of a general comment i [TS]

01:04:06   really liked our our Indian Jones [TS]

01:04:10   episode I like our sci-fi novel summer [TS]

01:04:15   reading list oh yeah that was before [TS]

01:04:17   that was a lot of fun and yeah i think i [TS]

01:04:22   think we had a very good year for the [TS]

01:04:23   uncomfortable and it's it has been a lot [TS]

01:04:25   of fun to be on and I [TS]

01:04:27   and i look forward to doing more [TS]

01:04:28   episodes 2013 yeah Glen fleischmann do [TS]

01:04:32   you have any favorite items from 2012 [TS]

01:04:35   things that you read or saw or consumed [TS]

01:04:38   in some way with your brain [TS]

01:04:39   I have my brain consumers things [TS]

01:04:42   sometimes i'm not even paying attention [TS]

01:04:43   i have a number of favorite things this [TS]

01:04:46   year actually a surprising number of [TS]

01:04:48   many of which we talked about on this [TS]

01:04:50   show because things that we like we [TS]

01:04:51   talked about here and i liked Avengers [TS]

01:04:54   kind of against my better judgment I [TS]

01:04:57   haven't seen any of the lead in movies [TS]

01:04:59   the avengers so I went in blind have not [TS]

01:05:01   having seen Hulk Captain America or Thor [TS]

01:05:04   or ironman other awkward man like 15 [TS]

01:05:08   movies that fit into this movie and I [TS]

01:05:10   saw it first in the theater and then I [TS]

01:05:12   saw it like a lot of plane ride i think [TS]

01:05:14   i like a seat back here is something to [TS]

01:05:16   watch it you know i think it's actually [TS]

01:05:17   pretty enjoyable movie despite the [TS]

01:05:19   massive plot holes about alien invasion [TS]

01:05:21   sure I thought I just like the character [TS]

01:05:24   action i think they got such a great mix [TS]

01:05:26   of people that anytime they're all in a [TS]

01:05:28   room and I don't like that much better [TS]

01:05:30   than the fight scenes i'm sure the fight [TS]

01:05:31   scenes what's old movie to a big [TS]

01:05:32   audience but there's great chemistry in [TS]

01:05:34   the movie and and a lot of actually [TS]

01:05:36   decently interesting moral ideas explore [TS]

01:05:39   and I continue to like the relationship [TS]

01:05:41   between four and his adopted brother in [TS]

01:05:45   that mythology low-key and I maybe go [TS]

01:05:47   watch for which I heard was widely [TS]

01:05:49   ridiculed i kinda liked for again for [TS]

01:05:52   the same reason the relation between [TS]

01:05:53   those two characters and the two actors [TS]

01:05:56   are just I think have a wonderful [TS]

01:05:58   wonderful magic together that transcends [TS]

01:06:01   some of the cheesiness of both films you [TS]

01:06:04   know it's funny this episode is rapidly [TS]

01:06:05   becoming a like our are making amends [TS]

01:06:08   for our adventures episode where that's [TS]

01:06:10   for me and he ripped into a several of [TS]

01:06:12   us that you know I end up mentioning the [TS]

01:06:13   Avengers that's the thing we like for [TS]

01:06:15   this year but it's for all of the for [TS]

01:06:17   all these reasons I you know I agree so [TS]

01:06:19   that's yeah it was it was fun it was it [TS]

01:06:22   was fun moving i'm a big wreck it ralph [TS]

01:06:25   and I've seen it twice in theaters now [TS]

01:06:26   both times in glorious student mentions [TS]

01:06:29   I know people have probably an episode [TS]

01:06:32   about we are going to do an episode [TS]

01:06:33   about it [TS]

01:06:34   oh yes that's right it's our next [TS]

01:06:37   episode will be about and we'll have [TS]

01:06:39   been going to have done [TS]

01:06:40   i SAT there you go thing that was done [TS]

01:06:42   we do pre-taped Nona which is doing to [TS]

01:06:45   that from the past that's all that's [TS]

01:06:47   right that's what we're time traveling [TS]

01:06:48   shows so it's perfectly appropriate the [TS]

01:06:50   grandmother was i I liked it because of [TS]

01:06:52   the richness of plotting I think some [TS]

01:06:54   people found it money and found you some [TS]

01:06:58   of the plots a lot of it is I think [TS]

01:06:59   rehash inexplicable but i don't know i [TS]

01:07:02   wouldn't saw it just enjoy the spectacle [TS]

01:07:04   like the music a lot like the core story [TS]

01:07:07   like the secondary tertiary quaternary [TS]

01:07:09   stories and it's actually persuaded me i [TS]

01:07:12   finally bought a blu ray player because [TS]

01:07:15   I'm like oh it's going to come out on [TS]

01:07:16   blu-ray and I want to be able to buy it [TS]

01:07:19   and watch it at home in something that [TS]

01:07:21   approximates even the barest of what I [TS]

01:07:23   might see in the theater as opposed to a [TS]

01:07:25   400 line right ed I want to see [TS]

01:07:27   something better so that's I I think [TS]

01:07:29   wreck-it Ralph is one of my my top picks [TS]

01:07:31   partly I mean I grew up in that area so [TS]

01:07:32   i'm going to like it too but I felt [TS]

01:07:34   didn't pander entirely to me justjust a [TS]

01:07:36   lot i agree on TV I was a big fan of [TS]

01:07:40   sherlock season 2i thought it was there [TS]

01:07:43   was one episode I know what they do [TS]

01:07:44   three up and three services a middle [TS]

01:07:46   episode is never good but yeah but i [TS]

01:07:49   still i like the show so much I want to [TS]

01:07:50   cut cut them some slack and I just loved [TS]

01:07:53   a woman episode i watched several times [TS]

01:07:56   it's a wonderful actress wonderful lot [TS]

01:07:58   about Irene Adler retold in the modern [TS]

01:08:00   age loved Moriarty the way they [TS]

01:08:03   integrate that character love the end [TS]

01:08:05   when they have the battle but yeah so [TS]

01:08:07   many wonderful things so much [TS]

01:08:10   intelligence i also liked you know [TS]

01:08:13   without spoiling I liked someone was [TS]

01:08:15   completely other day about the problem [TS]

01:08:17   of all of the movies that have [TS]

01:08:20   ridiculous computer deus ex machina seen [TS]

01:08:23   someone sits at the keyboard they tap [TS]

01:08:25   away that even happens in Sherlock [TS]

01:08:27   there's a bit in another episode [TS]

01:08:28   Sherlock was like what could his [TS]

01:08:29   password BL he's got a bunch of maggie [TS]

01:08:32   thatcher books he's a magnet that's [TS]

01:08:33   right the passwords probably i don't [TS]

01:08:35   know what it was stature something like [TS]

01:08:36   that's like know people don't set [TS]

01:08:37   passwords that way and government [TS]

01:08:39   agencies not only something the last [TS]

01:08:40   episode Moriarty one was very clever [TS]

01:08:42   because it did have the right payoff for [TS]

01:08:45   that they made us word us for enjoying [TS]

01:08:47   our little [TS]

01:08:48   schadenfreude and then turn it back back [TS]

01:08:50   onto us because they didn't do the [TS]

01:08:52   obvious thing that was great [TS]

01:08:54   there was something i think i don't know [TS]

01:08:56   if we talked about it all this year tron [TS]

01:08:57   uprising did that come up [TS]

01:08:59   you mentioned it at some point in [TS]

01:09:00   passing it's a terrific show I'd seen [TS]

01:09:03   the preview early in the year of watched [TS]

01:09:04   I don't have watch all the episodes by a [TS]

01:09:06   long shot [TS]

01:09:07   I watched many of the episodes i heard [TS]

01:09:09   it might not be returning but it's [TS]

01:09:11   incredibly interesting university [TS]

01:09:14   created from the Letran reboot instead [TS]

01:09:17   of it being a continuation of the story [TS]

01:09:19   kind of backstory and ordinary what [TS]

01:09:23   seems to be an ordinary repairman in the [TS]

01:09:25   tron universities repairing light cycles [TS]

01:09:27   and things he winds up apparently having [TS]

01:09:31   some special abilities he gets topped he [TS]

01:09:33   becomes tron to essentially replaces [TS]

01:09:36   strong because the original tron not [TS]

01:09:38   sure if this is told in the story itself [TS]

01:09:40   in the the reboot movie is damaged [TS]

01:09:43   beyond repair but he can [TS]

01:09:44   yeah so this is this picks up from that [TS]

01:09:46   where he's part of the ongoing [TS]

01:09:47   resistance and it's just it's elegant [TS]

01:09:50   it's remember when they brought back [TS]

01:09:51   Batman the Animated Series when they [TS]

01:09:53   brought that back in the nineties wasn't [TS]

01:09:56   already rebooted it's that thing they [TS]

01:09:58   use silence [TS]

01:09:59   sometimes it's quiet they have these [TS]

01:10:02   elegant beautiful scenes they use the [TS]

01:10:05   fact that they're in a created universe [TS]

01:10:07   to their effect as opposed to being [TS]

01:10:09   constrained by the limits of physical [TS]

01:10:11   universe being sort of mapped into a [TS]

01:10:13   computer space and clever plots moral [TS]

01:10:17   ambiguity real consequences people died [TS]

01:10:19   and we're reminded me of most was to [TS]

01:10:22   show that so few people know of phantom [TS]

01:10:24   2040 from the early nineties dearie [TS]

01:10:26   calling out i'm one of so many people [TS]

01:10:28   who don't remember it [TS]

01:10:30   I don't even know it says l36 episodes [TS]

01:10:32   in nineteen nineties it was by the guy [TS]

01:10:34   who later did aeon flux was designed by [TS]

01:10:36   him and show again full of a crazy was [TS]

01:10:40   about the Phantom that the cartoon [TS]

01:10:41   character the Phantom having a welcome [TS]

01:10:43   from cryo sleep or something in 2014 the [TS]

01:10:45   world's changed sort of this topic and [TS]

01:10:47   so full of of the kind of moral [TS]

01:10:51   ambiguity you only find typically in [TS]

01:10:53   difficulty novels in German and I like [TS]

01:10:56   when you see that when they played out [TS]

01:10:58   when they use the medium of cartoon plus [TS]

01:11:00   the fact that things don't have to be [TS]

01:11:02   black and white they can have all this [TS]

01:11:04   shading and still tell inside the medium [TS]

01:11:05   so trying apprising great show [TS]

01:11:08   cool Oh actually I those two novels to [TS]

01:11:11   is night circus and among others which I [TS]

01:11:13   was exposed to is yeah there's a good [TS]

01:11:16   devices of this program i'm sensing some [TS]

01:11:18   trends in this episode indeed but night [TS]

01:11:20   circus came up with Scott and ran it's [TS]

01:11:22   the one I mentioned to people when they [TS]

01:11:24   say is there anything good I should read [TS]

01:11:25   i say night circus and then I usually [TS]

01:11:27   say and if you like fantasy trying on is [TS]

01:11:30   not exactly fantasy because night circus [TS]

01:11:32   is it's nicer kisses fantasy but it's so [TS]

01:11:35   for people who might be wary of reading [TS]

01:11:39   something that's called fantasy night [TS]

01:11:41   circus is just a beautiful novel and [TS]

01:11:43   it's it's not that you should I mean [TS]

01:11:45   there's an issue of labels not that you [TS]

01:11:47   should avoid things that are fantasy but [TS]

01:11:48   there's too many things that are you [TS]

01:11:50   know have the predictable elements of [TS]

01:11:52   elves and goblins and you know DNA and [TS]

01:11:55   shadows it's like when you read american [TS]

01:11:58   gods and you have to say American Gods [TS]

01:11:59   by Neil Gaiman that is fantasy but it's [TS]

01:12:02   not the kind of fantasy that you think [TS]

01:12:04   about when you look at shelves and [TS]

01:12:06   shelves of half cloud elevating it's not [TS]

01:12:08   sorcery it's not a high fantasy about [TS]

01:12:10   you know basically Lord of the Rings [TS]

01:12:12   pain it's a very different kind of thing [TS]

01:12:14   yeah among other spits into that to [TS]

01:12:16   where it's like this is what magic would [TS]

01:12:17   be like if magic existed in our world [TS]

01:12:20   this is what it would actually be like [TS]

01:12:21   as opposed to the sort of fancy love you [TS]

01:12:24   dot know life is a lot more bloody like [TS]

01:12:26   that one of the things about token that [TS]

01:12:27   you have to like to I think comes [TS]

01:12:29   through here and show Walton the author [TS]

01:12:31   of among others is so well-read that she [TS]

01:12:34   brings up that that notion she's able to [TS]

01:12:37   take talkin like elements i think and [TS]

01:12:39   bring them into the real world where [TS]

01:12:40   it's bloody and nasty i also like how to [TS]

01:12:43   read farthing I don't like the whole [TS]

01:12:44   small change series by John Walton but [TS]

01:12:47   I'm glad father and less glad its [TS]

01:12:49   successive novel but very glad to have [TS]

01:12:52   read farther yeah this is because 12 [TS]

01:12:54   yes she was a great find this year I [TS]

01:12:56   think for a lot of us is Joe Walton any [TS]

01:12:58   other works strike your fancy or is that [TS]

01:13:00   we covered it how you've been getting [TS]

01:13:02   back into comic books and dribs and [TS]

01:13:04   drabs with digital reading as so many [TS]

01:13:05   people have I think so many people I [TS]

01:13:08   know who have yeah and it's if I think [TS]

01:13:10   with the 20-year gap for a lot of people [TS]

01:13:12   sometimes 30 years it's like being able [TS]

01:13:14   to [TS]

01:13:14   an ipad not have to cart around find the [TS]

01:13:17   individual stuff we're paying more for [TS]

01:13:18   it but having essentially eternal [TS]

01:13:20   unbroken you know clean access to it [TS]

01:13:24   seems to be part of the appeal and so [TS]

01:13:26   I'm doing a lot more experimenting with [TS]

01:13:27   what i'm reading and I got sucked into [TS]

01:13:29   suicide squad which is so improbable for [TS]

01:13:32   me it's such a weird crazy violent [TS]

01:13:35   series in the DC reboot not the original [TS]

01:13:38   1 i've looked at some of those and I [TS]

01:13:39   don't didn't like it much [TS]

01:13:41   and then I got just sucked into this [TS]

01:13:43   world of like Harley Quinn the Joker's [TS]

01:13:46   squeeze inside quick after the whole [TS]

01:13:48   crazy Joker stuff that happens which I [TS]

01:13:51   don't want to get into it so unpleasant [TS]

01:13:52   all that whole Batman thing but they [TS]

01:13:54   have a Suicide Squad there's just [TS]

01:13:56   something I compelling about the taking [TS]

01:14:00   people who are absolutely beyond [TS]

01:14:02   recovery there beyond salvation although [TS]

01:14:05   some of them believe they have salvation [TS]

01:14:07   front of them putting them together as [TS]

01:14:09   this group of like they have micro bombs [TS]

01:14:10   implanted in her neck that can be [TS]

01:14:12   triggered remotely and they have to [TS]

01:14:13   finish the mission a time and just blow [TS]

01:14:15   up and government you know shadow [TS]

01:14:17   government agency that controls them and [TS]

01:14:18   has absolutely no regard for human life [TS]

01:14:20   whatsoever they're scum their dragon [TS]

01:14:22   whatever and the whole thing I find [TS]

01:14:24   completely fascinating and it's a strip [TS]

01:14:27   it's a sick pleasure i haven't checked i [TS]

01:14:29   read the first page 13 issues and i'm [TS]

01:14:31   not sure if they've done the next series [TS]

01:14:33   of it yet but it's a really weird arc of [TS]

01:14:37   the story [TS]

01:14:38   cool very cool i'll check that out not [TS]

01:14:40   not for everyone not for the weak [TS]

01:14:42   there's certainly sounds like it is and [TS]

01:14:43   back but that's cool that's a cool idea [TS]

01:14:46   any-any podcast memories anything that [TS]

01:14:49   you like to on the podcast this year and [TS]

01:14:51   pretend a podcast this year of a few yes [TS]

01:14:54   I do [TS]

01:14:55   well I you know as as we've already [TS]

01:14:56   probably spoken about love Hitler of [TS]

01:14:59   course because we talk about it all the [TS]

01:15:01   time we didn't ruin this is arranged my [TS]

01:15:04   Hitler keeps coming up because we read [TS]

01:15:05   those small change books and mr. Hitler [TS]

01:15:07   seems nice and nose and it's gotten us a [TS]

01:15:10   story about reading my comp on the [TS]

01:15:12   subway and then we had let's kill hitler [TS]

01:15:16   we write because the number who met [TS]

01:15:18   Hitler facility yeah and there's [TS]

01:15:20   something it's something there's a sick [TS]

01:15:22   fascination with Hitler that I think [TS]

01:15:23   brings them up as a theme as we always [TS]

01:15:25   want to rewrite history and [TS]

01:15:26   can rewrite we can make things better by [TS]

01:15:28   turning into fiction are making the [TS]

01:15:30   payment of ridicule or providing a [TS]

01:15:31   different outcome or what-have-you so [TS]

01:15:33   what somebody else wrote into US and and [TS]

01:15:35   claim that are mentioned Hitler was was [TS]

01:15:38   distasteful because he was so awful and [TS]

01:15:40   I subscribe to the the mel brooks school [TS]

01:15:43   which is the best way to have our [TS]

01:15:46   revenge on Hitler after all of his [TS]

01:15:48   misdeeds is to mock him and make fun of [TS]

01:15:52   him as many ways as possible because [TS]

01:15:54   then it's impossible to take a hit [TS]

01:15:56   anything he did seriously and I think [TS]

01:15:58   that's good because he was such a [TS]

01:15:59   criminal that goes without saying [TS]

01:16:01   and I like having a tree course of [TS]

01:16:03   making fun of Hitler and and basically [TS]

01:16:05   kicking his gravestone and you dancing [TS]

01:16:09   on his grave if I think that's I think [TS]

01:16:10   it's a good thing I i agree there's [TS]

01:16:12   great kids in the hall bit that will [TS]

01:16:14   make sense in a second why tell you this [TS]

01:16:15   where they fully it's a very brief bit [TS]

01:16:17   he comes out dressed as a woman [TS]

01:16:18   actresses and some more choice she says [TS]

01:16:20   oh she's not so glad thank you so much [TS]

01:16:23   for this award like to thank my agent my [TS]

01:16:25   mother [TS]

01:16:25   honey you're my darling you're always [TS]

01:16:27   there for me like to think Hitler also [TS]

01:16:29   i'd like to thank the direct boo boo [TS]

01:16:32   what and Ken McDonald comes as you think [TS]

01:16:35   hitler'd i did not you [TS]

01:16:37   thanks bit ler it's just a silly throw a [TS]

01:16:39   bit so Mel Brooks wins an award for for [TS]

01:16:43   the producers he comes out and he thinks [TS]

01:16:46   that her for being such a crazy guy and [TS]

01:16:48   I'm thinking he thanked blur it was just [TS]

01:16:51   you know some kind of double joke there [TS]

01:16:53   but I'm well my memory from this here is [TS]

01:16:55   that we talked to get to talk about a [TS]

01:16:56   lot of now that we are going to our [TS]

01:16:58   third year the partially here this next [TS]

01:17:01   year i think we we did some more meta [TS]

01:17:03   episode which was fun and talked about [TS]

01:17:05   you know the hundredth episode we talked [TS]

01:17:06   about kids it was great to talk about [TS]

01:17:08   how we introduce this material two kids [TS]

01:17:11   I think one of my favorite episodes of [TS]

01:17:13   the year was the game show episode you [TS]

01:17:14   put together on a little bit of input [TS]

01:17:17   into that and yes you helped a lot you [TS]

01:17:18   hate you came up with some of the games [TS]

01:17:20   and that was really you and Dan more in [TS]

01:17:21   both and it was very helpful after we [TS]

01:17:23   play we play scroll or created we can't [TS]

01:17:26   remember but played a version version of [TS]

01:17:28   that it was Marvel Marvel Doctor Who or [TS]

01:17:30   classic sci-fi i think but basically [TS]

01:17:32   basically that I i took that and ran [TS]

01:17:35   with it and that was a lot of fun but [TS]

01:17:36   and um any lost I lost I know what [TS]

01:17:39   extremely I was on [TS]

01:17:40   team old guy Demel guy the young [TS]

01:17:41   whippersnappers beat us by I don't think [TS]

01:17:44   we had a good Superman defense so we'll [TS]

01:17:45   be working on the Superman defense for [TS]

01:17:47   next time so that's the game show that [TS]

01:17:49   you lost this year that's the name for [TS]

01:17:51   it and then later i also enjoy the game [TS]

01:17:53   show episode about blending about [TS]

01:17:55   anything saturday onion with one of [TS]

01:17:58   about seventeen podcast I've done in [TS]

01:18:01   which i've talked in part about with [TS]

01:18:03   integrity [TS]

01:18:04   it's fascinating how many podcasters are [TS]

01:18:06   interested to talk to people who won [TS]

01:18:08   jeopardy and yes I was it was a this was [TS]

01:18:10   a fantastic here for me tonight was a [TS]

01:18:12   really good Glenn year and the Jeopardy [TS]

01:18:15   thing was just so hilarious and fun and [TS]

01:18:17   it was great to talk to you all [TS]

01:18:18   we didn't you know secretly after I'd [TS]

01:18:20   one but before to taped kept in the [TS]

01:18:23   vault we'd be pre-tape like jeopardy [TS]

01:18:25   itself which tapes way in advance of [TS]

01:18:27   airing we we taped you and me and Steve [TS]

01:18:29   lots taped an episode i think a week [TS]

01:18:33   after you came back from the show and he [TS]

01:18:35   just sat on my hard drive for a long for [TS]

01:18:39   like three months [TS]

01:18:39   that's right that was one there was a [TS]

01:18:41   great way to do it was all fresh in my [TS]

01:18:42   mind and Frank I've written a lot about [TS]

01:18:44   it whatever but it's so funny to be [TS]

01:18:45   inside a cultural phenomenon where [TS]

01:18:48   everybody knows about it so few people [TS]

01:18:50   relative to who know about it watch it [TS]

01:18:53   they all watched it growing up and and [TS]

01:18:55   so few people watch it now I was I was [TS]

01:18:57   famous in my in-laws retirement [TS]

01:18:59   community when they're like hey you're [TS]

01:19:00   that got me with that guy who are you [TS]

01:19:02   know that guy I saw you on TV this week [TS]

01:19:04   for about one week and then I've not [TS]

01:19:07   been recognized in public to the [TS]

01:19:09   appearance but the best part is that [TS]

01:19:11   usually takes six months for them to cut [TS]

01:19:14   checks from when you take this is very [TS]

01:19:16   traditional and possibly because of the [TS]

01:19:17   fiscal cliff maybe they're being kind of [TS]

01:19:19   contestants worried about higher tax [TS]

01:19:21   rates next year the check actually [TS]

01:19:24   showed up in December of 2012 so nice [TS]

01:19:27   nice end-of-the-year one of the things [TS]

01:19:29   I'm doing in this episode is reading [TS]

01:19:30   some comments as we've been going here [TS]

01:19:32   and I save this one for you [TS]

01:19:34   collin de days d ass boy I really am [TS]

01:19:39   like John in my inability to pronounce [TS]

01:19:42   people's names and your refusal to [TS]

01:19:44   practice ahead of time or decide on [TS]

01:19:45   something that I'm not going to happen [TS]

01:19:47   at ten minutes preparation is all I [TS]

01:19:49   allow myself Colin says I really like [TS]

01:19:51   the con episode and the Jeopardy episode [TS]

01:19:53   code and this is the key part going as a [TS]

01:19:55   nineteen-year-old jeopardy lover i [TS]

01:19:58   really enjoyed seeing you on TV and then [TS]

01:20:00   hearing him talk about it I wasn't aware [TS]

01:20:03   people under the age of 61 but colin is [TS]

01:20:07   a nineteen-year-old jeopardy lover i [TS]

01:20:08   thought there was a filter it actually [TS]

01:20:10   like a retina scanner check your like [TS]

01:20:12   tree rings to make sure to check your [TS]

01:20:14   telomeres to see if you were how long [TS]

01:20:16   they were gonna know it's good it's a [TS]

01:20:18   thing is still functional my son got a [TS]

01:20:20   older son Ben got obsessed with it for a [TS]

01:20:23   bit before and afters on so we must [TS]

01:20:24   months of it together before and after [TS]

01:20:26   might think he's moved on a little bit [TS]

01:20:28   but it's there's something fun about [TS]

01:20:29   having a time challenged you know [TS]

01:20:32   necessity answer answer questions and I [TS]

01:20:35   think jeopardise big problem as we [TS]

01:20:37   talked about this because they're in [TS]

01:20:38   syndication you can't really watch it's [TS]

01:20:40   really an amazing thing that so many [TS]

01:20:41   people are intrigued by in Canada [TS]

01:20:43   actually watch it unless they get [TS]

01:20:44   broadcast TV on the very night it's the [TS]

01:20:46   air door it's gone forever it's actually [TS]

01:20:48   a lot like a lot like sports even though [TS]

01:20:50   it's pre-tape it's a lot like sport it's [TS]

01:20:51   not online you can subscribe to it you [TS]

01:20:53   can't you know you can't get it later [TS]

01:20:55   there are no reruns other than the ones [TS]

01:20:57   on a weekend that are from like a year [TS]

01:20:58   before and so for those of us who tried [TS]

01:21:02   to watch you and found out that there [TS]

01:21:03   was a football game on instead we just [TS]

01:21:05   missed that episode and there's no way [TS]

01:21:07   there is no way to get it back it's just [TS]

01:21:09   you know that's a jeopardy is like live [TS]

01:21:12   sports jeopardise keeping keeping the TV [TS]

01:21:14   industry alive [TS]

01:21:15   apparently the other thing that was [TS]

01:21:17   funny from that too as i found it after [TS]

01:21:18   we did that episode here that it turns [TS]

01:21:20   out that everyone i know knows someone [TS]

01:21:22   else who was on Jeopardy at some point [TS]

01:21:24   in their lives no matter how Justin so [TS]

01:21:25   Ben boy check your friend of mine boy [TS]

01:21:27   check who's been on this program he [TS]

01:21:29   buddy of his [TS]

01:21:31   so i think is a Washington congressional [TS]

01:21:34   aide maybe was on not long after i [TS]

01:21:37   appeared in one a number of episodes too [TS]

01:21:39   i think that was who it was and then [TS]

01:21:41   there's somebody else I keep funny [TS]

01:21:42   people on Twitter who will say oh you [TS]

01:21:44   must know is through a chain of two [TS]

01:21:45   people you know you so-and-so is on [TS]

01:21:47   jeopardy and we're on months apart so [TS]

01:21:48   there's a very strange skiing of tech [TS]

01:21:51   people people on Twitter people on [TS]

01:21:54   facebook you know people are on Jeopardy [TS]

01:21:55   no surprise but this was this was a [TS]

01:21:57   jeopardy may have been the high point of [TS]

01:21:59   my personal year but this was a great [TS]

01:22:01   year for the podcast with a lot of very [TS]

01:22:02   interesting [TS]

01:22:03   topical work we had some some nice [TS]

01:22:07   standard stuff and we did some really [TS]

01:22:08   weird stuff like game shows and a film [TS]

01:22:10   festival and with with some German [TS]

01:22:12   movies and it thanks to you and we have [TS]

01:22:15   a great track the dragon up so was a lot [TS]

01:22:16   of fun at least as Michaels rested we [TS]

01:22:18   talked about the theme of dragons in all [TS]

01:22:20   the fantasy and sci-fi why they keep [TS]

01:22:22   coming back so much [TS]

01:22:24   yeah i'm very happy to to have you guys [TS]

01:22:27   there were a few episodes this year than [TS]

01:22:28   other people posted and it's nice you [TS]

01:22:30   know will do will do more of those that [TS]

01:22:32   there's some episodes where people [TS]

01:22:33   really suggest really great topics and I [TS]

01:22:36   think wow I i have no knowledge of that [TS]

01:22:39   at all and you know I i'm happy to have [TS]

01:22:41   a week off its nice so we'll have to do [TS]

01:22:44   more of that in the new year [TS]

01:22:45   I i I've got a little list here in the [TS]

01:22:49   in the greater world i want to mention [TS]

01:22:51   in the night circus i really like that i [TS]

01:22:53   read a I'm not sure whether i read among [TS]

01:22:55   others [TS]

01:22:57   late last year earlier this year but [TS]

01:22:58   that was that was a favorite really like [TS]

01:23:00   John Walton i was at a Christmas party [TS]

01:23:03   my wife works at our local library and [TS]

01:23:06   so I i was sitting at a table with seven [TS]

01:23:08   librarians and the woman next to me [TS]

01:23:11   asked me what a librarian ask me what uh [TS]

01:23:15   what I was reading and what stuff that i [TS]

01:23:17   like them it was like it was like a [TS]

01:23:18   podcast happening at the table it was [TS]

01:23:20   kind of hilarious and I will teach you [TS]

01:23:22   how people going Shh every couple of [TS]

01:23:24   seconds apparently apparently went to a [TS]

01:23:25   party with my family yeah so so exactly [TS]

01:23:28   below their your extended family there [TS]

01:23:29   librarians you're all part of the same [TS]

01:23:31   library family right there are for [TS]

01:23:33   librarians in my family so I so I [TS]

01:23:35   recommended among others to her and she [TS]

01:23:37   said I haven't read that but but have [TS]

01:23:39   you read and it was Scott it was have [TS]

01:23:42   you read the book of hers words dragon [TS]

01:23:43   to wear hats nice [TS]

01:23:45   no I haven't but it's on my list now [TS]

01:23:47   because it's been recommended to me so [TS]

01:23:49   and she also actually recommended [TS]

01:23:50   altered carbon which dan and Scott I [TS]

01:23:52   think both recommended to me [TS]

01:23:54   mhm Marianna and I read that although I [TS]

01:23:56   would that it was fine but but Joe [TS]

01:23:58   Walton so I'd say is is is on my list of [TS]

01:24:01   things i like this year and I I'd say [TS]

01:24:03   you know TV why's that the the thing [TS]

01:24:05   that engrossed me the most was game [TS]

01:24:06   thrones that it's I think that was the [TS]

01:24:09   one that I keep coming back to is as [TS]

01:24:11   that you know I i well and that's an HBO [TS]

01:24:15   show so there's no commercial so [TS]

01:24:16   basically as soon as [TS]

01:24:17   Sonia you watch it if you know within [TS]

01:24:19   like half an hour of it beginning to air [TS]

01:24:22   we were watching it wasn't something [TS]

01:24:23   that you'd put on the DVR for a few days [TS]

01:24:25   later when you got to it that was [TS]

01:24:27   appointment TV and there isn't a lot of [TS]

01:24:29   that these days in terms of the show the [TS]

01:24:34   this fine fine high quality but podcast [TS]

01:24:37   that that you're listening to now I [TS]

01:24:39   liked art I like just talking about kid [TS]

01:24:41   stuff i like the movies for kids episode [TS]

01:24:43   and the kids have bad taste episode I [TS]

01:24:45   thought it was kind of fun to get the [TS]

01:24:47   prospective parents about how i do more [TS]

01:24:50   of that actually considering so many of [TS]

01:24:51   us [TS]

01:24:51   ninety percent of our life is consumed [TS]

01:24:53   by kids it seems like that's kind of a [TS]

01:24:55   no-brainer [TS]

01:24:56   sure and I could save time because then [TS]

01:24:57   you know we already are investing that [TS]

01:24:59   time and thinking about that stuff so [TS]

01:25:01   and dan could you like borrow kid like [TS]

01:25:02   you know the difference the PlayStation [TS]

01:25:04   you know just for a little while and [TS]

01:25:05   then you can come on the show he's got [TS]

01:25:07   his young cousins right [TS]

01:25:08   I do in fact where this this year I had [TS]

01:25:10   a talk with their their dad my cousin [TS]

01:25:12   who about showing them star wars for the [TS]

01:25:14   first time so i think that will be an [TS]

01:25:16   interesting experience [TS]

01:25:17   now how did you guide them read the [TS]

01:25:19   prequels they know nothing [TS]

01:25:21   they know nothing these kids like I mean [TS]

01:25:23   their parents don't really watch a lot [TS]

01:25:24   of television and stuff like that so [TS]

01:25:25   they are pretty on exposed to that kind [TS]

01:25:27   of stuff [TS]

01:25:28   alright so like the homeschool kids [TS]

01:25:31   getting close [TS]

01:25:32   I mean they go to school but they're not [TS]

01:25:33   they're not they're young enough that [TS]

01:25:34   they haven't quite gotten that whole [TS]

01:25:36   like peer group level thing yet I i [TS]

01:25:39   wanted to mention we we did to live [TS]

01:25:41   episodes so we did the singleton episode [TS]

01:25:43   with the Rolex hadn't seen it and we [TS]

01:25:45   also didn't want to at macworld expo I [TS]

01:25:47   thought that this hasn't seen no I was [TS]

01:25:51   kind of fun to do episodes in front of a [TS]

01:25:52   live audience [TS]

01:25:53   I was surprised that there were dozens [TS]

01:25:55   of people in both venues who actually [TS]

01:25:57   didn't just walk out while we were [TS]

01:25:59   talking and Steve and listen to us talk [TS]

01:26:02   most of them are just resting between [TS]

01:26:04   panels though yeah they're very tired [TS]

01:26:06   macro expo you know they just just [TS]

01:26:08   trying to find a seat at singleton they [TS]

01:26:09   were drunk and also i enjoyed they were [TS]

01:26:12   it was the afternoon and they were [TS]

01:26:13   already quite drunk [TS]

01:26:14   uh I also enjoyed we did that our game [TS]

01:26:17   of thrones season 2 episode in San [TS]

01:26:19   Francisco with John in / in person in [TS]

01:26:23   the studio along that was a lot of fun [TS]

01:26:25   dan and and was Dan and ren and yeah and [TS]

01:26:28   we and we dialed in with dialed in Monte [TS]

01:26:31   so it's five not in front of a studio it [TS]

01:26:34   was yeah but it was fun to do an episode [TS]

01:26:36   with your underwear some it's much [TS]

01:26:38   better than the previous samples go [TS]

01:26:40   ahead with look here Stephen Fry this [TS]

01:26:42   evening for is as if it is we got into [TS]

01:26:46   the audience great i was a very warm [TS]

01:26:48   small room yes yes the film festival [TS]

01:26:51   episode that you know again I think that [TS]

01:26:53   was that was great just like we should [TS]

01:26:54   do a crazy draft episode series every [TS]

01:26:57   year because I just like the TV draft [TS]

01:27:00   the year before I thought that was great [TS]

01:27:01   game show i had a lot of fun time [TS]

01:27:04   putting that together it was great to [TS]

01:27:06   talk to Jonathan Coulton sorry John [TS]

01:27:07   uh-huh and I just had that moment where [TS]

01:27:10   I was we were talking about that episode [TS]

01:27:13   and I thought it wouldn't be funny if [TS]

01:27:14   jonathan coulton came on at the end and [TS]

01:27:16   did the Annie Hall thing and I ask [TS]

01:27:18   Merlin Mann if you know he could get me [TS]

01:27:20   in touch with jonathan coulton and he [TS]

01:27:22   said yes and i ended up talking to [TS]

01:27:24   Jonathan Coulton for 20 minutes it was [TS]

01:27:25   actually pretty cool like the hundredth [TS]

01:27:29   episode and and uh I like that we had [TS]

01:27:33   some new words this year we learned [TS]

01:27:36   about Greg NOS told us about gays box [TS]

01:27:38   the ice every call he had many hairs in [TS]

01:27:42   his undies box men here's where in his [TS]

01:27:44   case box this box of course which I mean [TS]

01:27:46   they make a wax for that now he thought [TS]

01:27:48   a gazebo was obviously a typographical [TS]

01:27:51   error and it probably was short for gays [TS]

01:27:53   box because a box expanded and then gaze [TS]

01:27:56   out this year really was this year [TS]

01:28:00   holy fuck I missed that one that's [TS]

01:28:01   pretty that's pretty good the text [TS]

01:28:03   adventure episode that case box mon [TS]

01:28:06   store which is a monster who is your [TS]

01:28:09   mentor which scott we in our discussions [TS]

01:28:12   of the drowned cities and and a ship [TS]

01:28:15   breaker mon store is your is he's a [TS]

01:28:18   monster but he's also your mentor and of [TS]

01:28:20   course friend nemesis someone who is [TS]

01:28:23   both your friend and nemesis [TS]

01:28:25   why can't it be both so those are three [TS]

01:28:27   words of the year that we've introduced [TS]

01:28:29   to to humanity [TS]

01:28:31   you're welcome humanity look for them in [TS]

01:28:33   next year's OED and they'll be a [TS]

01:28:35   children's book that greatness and I are [TS]

01:28:37   working on hold [TS]

01:28:38   there's a monster in my gaze box [TS]

01:28:40   and other stories of foreign embassies [TS]

01:28:43   yes the French Embassy cycle [TS]

01:28:45   yes book1 the monster in the case box i [TS]

01:28:49   think life is already written that [TS]

01:28:50   actually I'll while he was not on the [TS]

01:28:51   show he knows that I had a camera in my [TS]

01:28:54   gaze box huh [TS]

01:28:57   I can't take credit for that word that [TS]

01:28:58   was wrestling with but yes and I want to [TS]

01:29:01   make a new year's resolution which is [TS]

01:29:02   that uh in I I can't promise we'll do [TS]

01:29:05   all of them but in 2013 we will at least [TS]

01:29:08   color up here comes a star wars prequel [TS]

01:29:12   Oh episode and wishing the world an [TS]

01:29:16   archer episode one that's my god that's [TS]

01:29:19   my new year's resolution [TS]

01:29:21   yeah will be scheduled right between [TS]

01:29:23   March 34 history because i couldn't yeah [TS]

01:29:26   that might be planning further prequels [TS]

01:29:29   also looking forward to 2013 we do we do [TS]

01:29:32   potentially have a comic-con get [TS]

01:29:34   together [TS]

01:29:34   coming up so it wasn't hearing Steve [TS]

01:29:37   lives in San Diego so it's really easy [TS]

01:29:38   for you and I am going I am going to [TS]

01:29:40   comic-con and if we can get some other [TS]

01:29:42   people there it is not that easy for me [TS]

01:29:43   to face that the stench of Leicester the [TS]

01:29:47   68 convention that is true i actually [TS]

01:29:50   put an application in 48 for a press [TS]

01:29:52   pass I alright sincerely doubt they will [TS]

01:29:55   give me one but honestly whether i go to [TS]

01:29:57   comic-con or not the stench will get to [TS]

01:29:59   me because it does the the the afternoon [TS]

01:30:02   breeze from the ocean waters of the area [TS]

01:30:04   pretty much all over the county yeah [TS]

01:30:06   yeah it would be nice i will say if i [TS]

01:30:08   get if i get a pass i will go i recall [TS]

01:30:10   it flop sweat August actually yeah [TS]

01:30:12   around here we have maigrey I and the [TS]

01:30:15   August flop sweat [TS]

01:30:16   yep this the scent of nerds mmm the [TS]

01:30:19   smell of it but we may do that yes we [TS]

01:30:22   may have a get-together at the very [TS]

01:30:24   least Steve you and I will go to karl [TS]

01:30:26   strauss isn't and drink beer now we'll [TS]

01:30:28   go we'll definitely should do our [TS]

01:30:30   long-awaited to beer tasting episode [TS]

01:30:33   oh that's a good idea i'll bring my [TS]

01:30:34   microphone there are there's a lot more [TS]

01:30:36   than Carl straps that we can travel to [TS]

01:30:38   now there are many many a tasting room [TS]

01:30:39   that we can visit in mira mesa area [TS]

01:30:42   alone and you think that these episodes [TS]

01:30:44   go off the rails whole it would be a [TS]

01:30:46   good [TS]

01:30:46   oh my god Oh that'll be that'll be our [TS]

01:30:50   country [TS]

01:30:50   well this has been great we have we have [TS]

01:30:53   we have time [TS]

01:30:54   about the past and look forward to the [TS]

01:30:56   future and I'd like to thank my lovely [TS]

01:30:59   guess for closing out another year of [TS]

01:31:01   the incomparable you know it's fun to do [TS]

01:31:04   this podcast i say that even when i'm in [TS]

01:31:07   the depths of editing despair sometimes [TS]

01:31:09   on the weekend but you know it wouldn't [TS]

01:31:11   be any good if it was just me sitting [TS]

01:31:14   here saying things about the book that i [TS]

01:31:17   just read it's all because of the I'm [TS]

01:31:19   fortunate to have a lot of very smart [TS]

01:31:21   and funny and interesting friends who [TS]

01:31:23   are willing to be on this ridiculous [TS]

01:31:25   podcast so and also me and also [TS]

01:31:27   statements Steve took my walk so so [TS]

01:31:30   thank you so well now you you wait for [TS]

01:31:33   it wait for it so I'd like to thank [TS]

01:31:34   let's friedman and you go Monty Ashley M [TS]

01:31:39   night Shyamalan boo but sadly they [TS]

01:31:43   couldn't be here so instead I'll think [TS]

01:31:45   these guys who were on their world ended [TS]

01:31:47   three hours ago John siracusa thank you [TS]

01:31:49   for being here thank you jason i [TS]

01:31:52   treasure my little award that [TS]

01:31:55   yeah we're not going to talk about the [TS]

01:31:57   major award that was one yeah we have [TS]

01:31:59   something that happened this year one of [TS]

01:32:01   the governor's award and that's the only [TS]

01:32:03   time i would like that last time i got a [TS]

01:32:04   trophy that was like a soccer when I was [TS]

01:32:06   in kindergarten [TS]

01:32:07   there was a big gap and now finally [TS]

01:32:10   podcast award that's right [TS]

01:32:12   no that's your right and greatness was [TS]

01:32:14   actually kind enough to to purchase that [TS]

01:32:17   was incredibly generated that everybody [TS]

01:32:20   agrees [TS]

01:32:20   thank you because I didn't think I [TS]

01:32:22   wanted it but now that I have it now [TS]

01:32:24   that I realized that was the hole in my [TS]

01:32:25   life that was my canon I can't imagine [TS]

01:32:27   life without it you know it's it looks [TS]

01:32:30   great on top of my piano if I had known [TS]

01:32:32   it was shaped like a star a star like [TS]

01:32:34   colon polyp i would probably the Horde [TS]

01:32:36   want to begin it looks kinda like the [TS]

01:32:38   more you know from the exactly it is [TS]

01:32:44   exactly sitting on top of my piano next [TS]

01:32:46   to a little buddha most appropriate [TS]

01:32:49   place to pick up we got it keeps stay [TS]
