611: My Skin is Not Good for That

00:00:00 ◼   ► Hello and welcome to episode 611 of Connected from the Relay Network.

00:00:12 ◼   ► I would like to thank our friends over at Century.

00:00:15 ◼   ► What did I do?

00:00:16 ◼   ► It's bad, right?

00:00:17 ◼   ► It's not a good intro.

00:00:18 ◼   ► You know, okay, so people...

00:00:21 ◼   ► Thank you, Century.

00:00:22 ◼   ► My name is Mike Hurley.

00:00:24 ◼   ► This is annual chairman Stephen.

00:00:25 ◼   ► Hi, Stephen.

00:00:25 ◼   ► What's up?

00:00:26 ◼   ► What people maybe don't understand if they're not Connected Pro members is that, like,

00:00:31 ◼   ► we do the pre-show, which was excellent this week, by the way.

00:00:35 ◼   ► I talk about Camp Inface.

00:00:37 ◼   ► So if you want to know about that, go to getconnectedpro.co.

00:00:40 ◼   ► And also stick around later on because I think Stephen has a deal for you.

00:00:43 ◼   ► Is that right, Stephen?

00:00:44 ◼   ► I do have a deal for you.

00:00:45 ◼   ► Stephen has a deal for you.

00:00:46 ◼   ► So if you're not signed up for Connected Pro, Stephen has a great deal for you.

00:00:49 ◼   ► There's never been a better time to become a Connected Pro member.

00:00:54 ◼   ► So we do Connected Pro and then just, like, naturally transition into the show.

00:00:59 ◼   ► And I do not deal well with that transition, where, like, usually with my other shows, like,

00:01:06 ◼   ► all right, here we go.

00:01:07 ◼   ► And then I ramp myself up and then I do my, like, pro, do the whole thing, right?

00:01:12 ◼   ► Like, I lose that here because there is this, like, smooth...

00:01:17 ◼   ► It is a very smooth transition, but the smoothness, kind of, I lose my way.

00:01:21 ◼   ► Well, I think we're the only show in our circles with extra content that we do at the beginning.

00:01:28 ◼   ► Yeah, now we are.

00:01:31 ◼   ► Because AppStories used to do at the beginning.

00:01:33 ◼   ► Yeah, but then they moved it to the end and, you know, upgrade, ATP, everyone else does it.

00:01:38 ◼   ► But, you know, we're doing our own path, you know?

00:01:43 ◼   ► We're innovators.

00:01:44 ◼   ► We are innovators, Mike.

00:01:46 ◼   ► Yep.

00:01:46 ◼   ► I don't know why we do it, if I'm being honest.

00:01:48 ◼   ► Yeah, me neither.

00:01:49 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:01:51 ◼   ► Anyways, hello.

00:01:51 ◼   ► Hello.

00:01:52 ◼   ► Good to see you.

00:01:53 ◼   ► No Federico this week.

00:01:54 ◼   ► Federico is on a beach right now.

00:01:56 ◼   ► He is.

00:01:56 ◼   ► This is his, I think, like, I think he does this, like, he's annual, all right, WWDC's over,

00:02:01 ◼   ► the review's coming next, let me go take a break, which I absolutely think is a good idea for him.

00:02:06 ◼   ► Me too.

00:02:06 ◼   ► I think we both, me and you, do this sometime after the podcast-a-thon.

00:02:11 ◼   ► Yes, I, yeah, I'm going out west in October for, like, a week after the show.

00:02:17 ◼   ► I haven't booked anything, but I probably will, you know, like, at least, like, a long weekend

00:02:21 ◼   ► or something, like, just kind of, like, let's put a marker on the end of that season and then

00:02:28 ◼   ► carry on.

00:02:29 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:02:29 ◼   ► So, yeah, so Federico's gone.

00:02:31 ◼   ► We're getting lovely photos from him.

00:02:33 ◼   ► I mean.

00:02:34 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:02:34 ◼   ► It's, it's, so I have this funny thing happening right now where I have, like, Memphis friends

00:02:41 ◼   ► in the places my internet friends live.

00:02:44 ◼   ► Okay.

00:02:45 ◼   ► And so a friend of mine is in the UK and was actually, like, kind of close to you in London

00:02:50 ◼   ► at some point on Find My earlier this week.

00:02:52 ◼   ► That's fun.

00:02:53 ◼   ► I was like, I wonder if he'll see Mike.

00:02:54 ◼   ► And another friend of mine and his family are in Italy.

00:02:59 ◼   ► And so it's like, you know, it's like, oh, you know, and the friend in London, like,

00:03:04 ◼   ► knows Relay, like, listens to some of our shows.

00:03:06 ◼   ► The friend in Italy does not.

00:03:07 ◼   ► And so it's, it's kind of funny.

00:03:09 ◼   ► Just like, oh, my friends are, like, aligning with each other.

00:03:11 ◼   ► And I'm just here.

00:03:13 ◼   ► I feel bad for your friends, if I'm being honest.

00:03:15 ◼   ► Because it's hot.

00:03:16 ◼   ► In these places, it's really hot right now.

00:03:18 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:03:18 ◼   ► Well, it's hot here, too.

00:03:19 ◼   ► Yeah, but I mean, we don't need to get into this, but, you know.

00:03:23 ◼   ► What about Celsius versus Fahrenheit?

00:03:27 ◼   ► Oh, my God.

00:03:28 ◼   ► Can we get into that?

00:03:29 ◼   ► Are we going to talk about this?

00:03:30 ◼   ► Like, are we going to, no, we're not going to do this?

00:03:32 ◼   ► I'm not going to do it.

00:03:33 ◼   ► If you spend time on Mastodon and follow enough people in our sphere, I'm sorry for you in

00:03:38 ◼   ► the same way that I'm sorry for myself, you know?

00:03:40 ◼   ► Like, we all have to deal with this for some reason, and I can't stand it anymore, and I

00:03:44 ◼   ► don't know why we're doing this, but we continue to do this forever and ever and ever, it

00:03:49 ◼   ► seems.

00:03:49 ◼   ► Some people.

00:03:50 ◼   ► People.

00:03:51 ◼   ► People.

00:03:52 ◼   ► Anyways.

00:03:53 ◼   ► But we all do get involved in it, though, is my point.

00:03:56 ◼   ► You did today, you know?

00:03:58 ◼   ► Like, we all somehow can't take it anymore and get involved in it.

00:04:02 ◼   ► Yeah, but, Stephen, you posted today a little joke on Mastodon.

00:04:06 ◼   ► Did it kick off again?

00:04:07 ◼   ► And then it started again.

00:04:07 ◼   ► Oh, I haven't looked.

00:04:08 ◼   ► So you did this, all right?

00:04:09 ◼   ► It's like, you did this today.

00:04:11 ◼   ► Everybody does it eventually.

00:04:13 ◼   ► The trick is to post and then not look at social media for like a week.

00:04:16 ◼   ► Right.

00:04:18 ◼   ► Yeah, but it will all be there when you come back.

00:04:20 ◼   ► That's true, probably.

00:04:22 ◼   ► Anyways, Federica's gone.

00:04:26 ◼   ► We're doing stuff today.

00:04:28 ◼   ► Yep.

00:04:29 ◼   ► Can I talk about my thing?

00:04:30 ◼   ► I would love you to.

00:04:32 ◼   ► Okay.

00:04:33 ◼   ► So we spoke several weeks ago now about how I should handle, like, I had my Apple history

00:04:39 ◼   ► Kickstarter things years ago.

00:04:41 ◼   ► And I've been thinking about them a lot because y'all did design in California to great success.

00:04:45 ◼   ► Yeah, one of the things that's kind of just been hanging out there is the digital versions

00:04:51 ◼   ► of the calendar that people had access to, that they weren't being updated.

00:04:55 ◼   ► They were just frozen in time, right?

00:04:57 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:04:58 ◼   ► And we spoke about it, and you and a bunch of feedback, a bunch of listeners and people

00:05:02 ◼   ► who had backed Kickstarter, I got some emails, like, hey, you should update it again.

00:05:06 ◼   ► So what I've done is if you were a backer of those Kickstarters, you got a message late

00:05:12 ◼   ► last week explaining this, where the calendar that you have as part of whatever Kickstarter

00:05:17 ◼   ► you were in, I've updated through June of 2026.

00:05:22 ◼   ► But moving forward, there is just one unified calendar that is going to stay up to date that

00:05:30 ◼   ► you can, it's like a one-time purchase of, I think, 10 bucks.

00:05:32 ◼   ► So there's a blog post that'll be in the show notes talking about this.

00:05:36 ◼   ► Thank you to everyone who has gone to grab it.

00:05:39 ◼   ► It's done really well so far.

00:05:41 ◼   ► And this is like an open-ended thing that I'm going to, what I've learned is, because

00:05:45 ◼   ► it took me several hours across a couple of evenings to get them up to date, but keeping

00:05:51 ◼   ► it up to date, moving forward will be much easier to stay on top of it.

00:05:55 ◼   ► So it's open-ended.

00:05:56 ◼   ► I'm committed to this and would love you to go check it out.

00:06:00 ◼   ► I encourage you to do this for purely selfish reasons.

00:06:04 ◼   ► And so I'm happy that you've done it because I need to keep a better tab of Apple history

00:06:09 ◼   ► dates now.

00:06:09 ◼   ► Yeah, you do.

00:06:10 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:06:11 ◼   ► And so now I have a forever updating calendar.

00:06:14 ◼   ► That's right.

00:06:15 ◼   ► That will do this for me.

00:06:16 ◼   ► So I'm really, I'm really thankful for it.

00:06:19 ◼   ► I do have a question for you, actually, which I've been meaning to ask.

00:06:21 ◼   ► And now I'm just going to ask you here on the show.

00:06:22 ◼   ► Good.

00:06:22 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:06:23 ◼   ► There are some days where you have this thing where it's like, and a bunch of other stuff

00:06:27 ◼   ► happened.

00:06:28 ◼   ► A very popular date, you're right.

00:06:29 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:06:29 ◼   ► Why not just do all the events?

00:06:32 ◼   ► Why, why, why, why collapse them?

00:06:34 ◼   ► So that is a hangover from the print version where I had just limited space in each little

00:06:41 ◼   ► box.

00:06:41 ◼   ► And then I thought it was kind of funny to keep it in the digital version.

00:06:46 ◼   ► But the problem is, I mean, I agree.

00:06:48 ◼   ► It's weird because there are other days that have like more stuff.

00:06:52 ◼   ► Millions.

00:06:52 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:06:53 ◼   ► And there's some days because I combined hardware, software services, that is like

00:06:57 ◼   ► 2018, maybe let's say twice, one hardware thing, one software thing.

00:07:01 ◼   ► Like there is some more cleanup to do that I'll do over time.

00:07:03 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:04 ◼   ► But, because Apple's like, it's really heavy in June and September, as you would, as you

00:07:10 ◼   ► would imagine.

00:07:10 ◼   ► Right.

00:07:11 ◼   ► And then you get to like March and nothing.

00:07:13 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:14 ◼   ► So yeah.

00:07:16 ◼   ► So the plan is to, to keep it up to date with new things every month.

00:07:19 ◼   ► And then I also hope to, um, over time add more old things.

00:07:23 ◼   ► So it's a living document as the kids say.

00:07:26 ◼   ► Yes.

00:07:26 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:27 ◼   ► If you ever think about it, I would pull some of those, pull some of those, uh, very popular

00:07:31 ◼   ► day things out, make them in their own things.

00:07:33 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:33 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:33 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:07:34 ◼   ► I mean, you can just click on them and it's like in the calendar event, but yeah, yeah,

00:07:37 ◼   ► for sure.

00:07:38 ◼   ► Um, yeah, I think that's a good idea.

00:07:41 ◼   ► I have a calendar set and fantastic on that, which is called Apple history.

00:07:45 ◼   ► Yay.

00:07:46 ◼   ► Cause I don't, you know what I don't need it in my normal calendar.

00:07:49 ◼   ► So no, do not, no, no, no, don't import.

00:07:51 ◼   ► Well, so you don't want to import it cause then you won't get updates, right?

00:07:55 ◼   ► You want to subscribe to it.

00:07:57 ◼   ► No, I do a subscription.

00:07:57 ◼   ► Yes.

00:07:57 ◼   ► Cause you can do those in a fantastic calendar.

00:08:00 ◼   ► And it's just a Google calendar.

00:08:01 ◼   ► Like if you, when you buy it, all the directions are in there.

00:08:03 ◼   ► You just subscribe to it.

00:08:04 ◼   ► You can subscribe to it in the calendar app or if you use Google calendar on the web and

00:08:07 ◼   ► it syncs like.

00:08:08 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:08:09 ◼   ► Cause I'm, I'm, I'm subscribed to it in my iCloud calendar.

00:08:11 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:08:12 ◼   ► Yep.

00:08:12 ◼   ► Which you can do.

00:08:13 ◼   ► Yes.

00:08:13 ◼   ► I have it turned off in mine cause I don't, I don't even see them all the time.

00:08:17 ◼   ► No one, no, literally nobody needs to see these things just all the time, but it's

00:08:21 ◼   ► good to be able to flick over into them and check what's going, what's going on.

00:08:25 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:08:25 ◼   ► And if you have like, um, uh, like a ink thing floating around your house or like something

00:08:31 ◼   ► to show a calendar, I think that's a fun thing.

00:08:34 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:08:34 ◼   ► Um, like if you have a, uh, what is it?

00:08:36 ◼   ► The terminal or some other stuff.

00:08:37 ◼   ► I know he's problematic.

00:08:39 ◼   ► If you have his products or other things like it, that that's one reason I kept it on Google

00:08:43 ◼   ► calendar.

00:08:44 ◼   ► Cause I thought about moving it to iCloud.

00:08:45 ◼   ► I was like, Google calendar is way more like universal, I think, even, even though like

00:08:51 ◼   ► the audience of this is probably more iCloud based, like Google calendar is supported better

00:08:54 ◼   ► in the world.

00:08:55 ◼   ► And so I thought, well, if you have a product that you can like plug in, uh, that URL to

00:09:01 ◼   ► something and display it, you know, that could be a fun, a fun use.

00:09:04 ◼   ► So.

00:09:05 ◼   ► Yep.

00:09:05 ◼   ► Very nice.

00:09:07 ◼   ► There you go.

00:09:07 ◼   ► So it seems like the pro iPhones are going to get thicker and heavier to varying degrees.

00:09:16 ◼   ► So I've got a couple of, uh, articles from Mac rumors.

00:09:19 ◼   ► So leaker, you know, obviously you know how these leakers go.

00:09:22 ◼   ► They're just posting things on Twitter.

00:09:24 ◼   ► You assume they're coming from the supply chain with these things.

00:09:26 ◼   ► I just trust that Mac rumors and nine to five are keeping a record of these people and decide

00:09:31 ◼   ► whether it's worth, uh, posting about them.

00:09:33 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:09:34 ◼   ► Cause anyone can say anything.

00:09:35 ◼   ► So my assumption is that they are keeping tabs on this, uh, leaker fixed focus, digital

00:09:40 ◼   ► reports.

00:09:40 ◼   ► And I do recognize the names over time.

00:09:42 ◼   ► Like I recognize this one, uh, reports that the iPhone 18 pro will get two millimeters

00:09:47 ◼   ► thicker, which is actually quite significant.

00:09:49 ◼   ► Um, you would feel that.

00:09:51 ◼   ► And then also ice universe, uh, follows this up by saying the pro max will get 0.25 millimeters

00:09:58 ◼   ► thicker and seven grams heavier.

00:10:00 ◼   ► So I think it's safe to assume both phones will be getting thicker and heavier.

00:10:04 ◼   ► The iPhone 18 pro will be significant.

00:10:08 ◼   ► I think that is an amount you'll feel two millimeters.

00:10:10 ◼   ► This doesn't feel like a lot, but you'll feel that difference.

00:10:13 ◼   ► I think so.

00:10:14 ◼   ► Now the, the rumors are suggesting like the pro max, there's been more reporting on the

00:10:19 ◼   ► pro max as to why, and it'd be get, because it's getting a larger battery, which could account

00:10:25 ◼   ► for this and a new vapor chamber made of stainless steel.

00:10:28 ◼   ► So I would expect both pro phones will be getting these right.

00:10:32 ◼   ► Bigger batteries, new vapor chamber.

00:10:34 ◼   ► They need more space inside.

00:10:35 ◼   ► There are also report.

00:10:38 ◼   ► A lot of the reporting is that the, the cameras are going to be significantly better.

00:10:42 ◼   ► My theory is this started with camera and then everything else trickled down that they may

00:10:48 ◼   ► need more space for the camera.

00:10:50 ◼   ► And so then we're like, well, if we have this more space, let's put a bigger battery in it.

00:10:55 ◼   ► What else can we do?

00:10:57 ◼   ► That kind of stuff.

00:10:58 ◼   ► Cause there's that rumor of variable aperture.

00:11:00 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:11:00 ◼   ► You're going to need more space for that.

00:11:01 ◼   ► For sure.

00:11:02 ◼   ► And I think they want, you know, the cameras does stick above the plateau.

00:11:07 ◼   ► And I think they want to minimize that distance to the degree that they can, right?

00:11:12 ◼   ► You don't want like a half inch camera lens hanging off the back, right?

00:11:15 ◼   ► Obviously that's an exaggeration, but you don't want that.

00:11:17 ◼   ► And so I think you're right.

00:11:18 ◼   ► I think the camera drives so much of the iPhone's design.

00:11:22 ◼   ► Um, and I will say like they mentioned the, the vapor chamber.

00:11:26 ◼   ► Um, I think that's been a big success in the 17 pro.

00:11:30 ◼   ► My iPhone has been getting hot on the beta, but until then it was fine.

00:11:35 ◼   ► Oh dude, my iPhone air gets so hot sometimes, which of course doesn't have a vapor chamber.

00:11:38 ◼   ► But, um, I, you know, there were rumors a while back to the next iPad pro would have a vapor

00:11:43 ◼   ► chamber.

00:11:44 ◼   ► You could see it maybe like in future MacBook airs or, you know, other fanless max.

00:11:48 ◼   ► And, um, I think I, I, I, you know, when I was carrying the 17 pro for six months or whatever,

00:11:54 ◼   ► like, uh, it didn't overheat on me the way that my previous phones did.

00:11:59 ◼   ► Um, in fact, the, uh, a couple of weekends ago, I was helping, uh, my aunt and uncle,

00:12:04 ◼   ► they were sharing an iCloud account between the two of them, which is like, not a, don't

00:12:09 ◼   ► do it.

00:12:09 ◼   ► Like it's, they were getting each other's text messages.

00:12:11 ◼   ► It was a disaster.

00:12:12 ◼   ► And finally I like, okay, we're going to pull them apart.

00:12:14 ◼   ► Then we're going to like sync your calendars together and sync your photos together doing

00:12:19 ◼   ► all this.

00:12:19 ◼   ► And they're both on, um, iPhone 15 pros.

00:12:24 ◼   ► Um, he's got the natural titanium, which is like the best looking phone and ages.

00:12:28 ◼   ► Love that one.

00:12:29 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:12:29 ◼   ► Love it.

00:12:29 ◼   ► Um, and when I was like doing the photo syncing stuff, the phones got so hot, it had to pause

00:12:37 ◼   ► like, and they were hot, hot.

00:12:39 ◼   ► And I ended up getting an ice pack out of the, out of the freezer and like wrapping

00:12:45 ◼   ► it in a towel and like trying to cool the phones down.

00:12:48 ◼   ► Cause they, I mean, they were like hot.

00:12:51 ◼   ► Um, and of course, you know, that sort of thing, like you can push these things even with the

00:12:55 ◼   ► vapor chamber.

00:12:56 ◼   ► But my suspicion is Apple's very happy with how that's gone.

00:13:00 ◼   ► So improving it and expanding it to other products, I think is a great idea.

00:13:03 ◼   ► If this rumor is true though, like the current iPhone 17 pro is 8.7 millimeters, two more

00:13:13 ◼   ► millimeters.

00:13:14 ◼   ► That's a big difference.

00:13:16 ◼   ► It is.

00:13:17 ◼   ► I'm not sure about this.

00:13:19 ◼   ► It seems like a lot.

00:13:21 ◼   ► It does seem like a lot.

00:13:23 ◼   ► And I'm, I'm definitely aware of like, well, we've said we wouldn't like, go just give

00:13:27 ◼   ► us more battery.

00:13:28 ◼   ► Like, you know, but there are trade-offs with all of this stuff.

00:13:30 ◼   ► And it's, it's interesting.

00:13:31 ◼   ► This is in many ways, a continuation of what happened with the 17 pro where the base phone

00:13:39 ◼   ► is really good.

00:13:40 ◼   ► Like base 17 is an excellent phone.

00:13:44 ◼   ► The air makes different trade-offs and is like thin and light, but kind of bad in some

00:13:48 ◼   ► interesting ways.

00:13:49 ◼   ► But the pro phone, I feel like they're sort of like let loose.

00:13:53 ◼   ► To like do what they really want to do with it.

00:13:55 ◼   ► And it may not be for everybody.

00:13:57 ◼   ► And this feels like a further step down that path.

00:14:01 ◼   ► And it certainly won't be for everybody.

00:14:04 ◼   ► Right.

00:14:04 ◼   ► Like, like the pro max phone, I think has gotten to a point for a lot of people who used to

00:14:08 ◼   ► like the pro max size.

00:14:10 ◼   ► It's got a little big, you know, it's going to be heavier and thicker this time around.

00:14:15 ◼   ► But for some part of the, you know, the user base, that's exactly what they want.

00:14:21 ◼   ► And for other people, they have other phones with other trade-offs.

00:14:25 ◼   ► And I think that's good.

00:14:25 ◼   ► I think it's good that the phones are more different from each other, even if some of the

00:14:30 ◼   ► trade-offs aren't for everybody.

00:14:31 ◼   ► Like this may not be for me, but the iPhone air that I carry a bunch of people like I would,

00:14:37 ◼   ► I can never live that way.

00:14:38 ◼   ► I think that sometimes and I love it.

00:14:40 ◼   ► So it's, I think it's reasonable to do.

00:14:43 ◼   ► I think it's fine.

00:14:44 ◼   ► And if it, if it is really driven by the fact the camera system is going to be way better,

00:14:48 ◼   ► that forgives so many sins in the iPhone world for so many people.

00:14:52 ◼   ► I think, I think this is going to be basically a nothing burger once it's out.

00:14:56 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:14:57 ◼   ► Like a lot of these things, as you said, I'll be willing to accept it.

00:15:02 ◼   ► If you give me something that makes it worth it.

00:15:05 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:15:05 ◼   ► And so like, I will take that the phone is thicker and maybe a little heavier if the camera is

00:15:11 ◼   ► really good, but it really has to be like the camera.

00:15:14 ◼   ► Like, I don't think there's anything else that I would be like willing to sacrifice for what

00:15:20 ◼   ► would be a heavier, thicker phone.

00:15:22 ◼   ► Like put it into perspective, like the, the iPhone 17 pro is like the thickest iPhone,

00:15:28 ◼   ► the especially pro level model has ever been thicker than the iPhone 10.

00:15:32 ◼   ► The compared to it doesn't go back very far.

00:15:34 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:15:35 ◼   ► But like, you know, this is, it's not like it went down and now it's going up again.

00:15:39 ◼   ► It's just been steadily going up the last few years.

00:15:42 ◼   ► And if this rumor is true, this will be the biggest year over year jump of any of the pro

00:15:47 ◼   ► phones.

00:15:47 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:15:48 ◼   ► So yeah, it's going to be interesting to see.

00:15:50 ◼   ► It is.

00:15:51 ◼   ► It's only going to make the air too, and the folding phone more tempting when the

00:15:54 ◼   ► pro phones are super thick and heavy.

00:15:56 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:15:57 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:15:57 ◼   ► I mean, you know, uh, we'll see, you know, the rumor is the iPhone 18 and the air two

00:16:02 ◼   ► won't be till the spring.

00:16:03 ◼   ► Um, we have a question about that later on.

00:16:06 ◼   ► I think that's a lock.

00:16:07 ◼   ► I think that's like locked on, but like, I do too.

00:16:09 ◼   ► Because it just makes a lot of sense.

00:16:12 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:16:12 ◼   ► I've been using an iPhone 17.

00:16:14 ◼   ► So, um, um, and, uh, we got, it's, we have one or two in the household now, but Mary's

00:16:21 ◼   ► on, on a 17 and I was just helping her some stuff on it.

00:16:24 ◼   ► And I was like, this phone's great.

00:16:27 ◼   ► Like it's really good.

00:16:28 ◼   ► Like the, the weight is a good, the weight and size is good.

00:16:31 ◼   ► The colors are incredible this time around.

00:16:34 ◼   ► And it's just, um, it's just, it's just very solid.

00:16:38 ◼   ► Yep.

00:16:39 ◼   ► And it's got the always on display, which she didn't like at first, but I was like, give

00:16:43 ◼   ► it some time.

00:16:45 ◼   ► Uh, it's weird.

00:16:46 ◼   ► It's weird at first.

00:16:47 ◼   ► Like, I mean, we all went through this, right?

00:16:48 ◼   ► Like, do I use it?

00:16:49 ◼   ► Do I not use it?

00:16:49 ◼   ► You were an always on off person, weren't you?

00:16:52 ◼   ► Uh, I was for a while.

00:16:53 ◼   ► I think.

00:16:53 ◼   ► I didn't know that you, we went back to, back on.

00:16:56 ◼   ► I did.

00:16:57 ◼   ► Maybe I was a, don't show the wallpaper.

00:16:59 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:17:01 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:17:02 ◼   ► You were that.

00:17:02 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:17:03 ◼   ► At least.

00:17:04 ◼   ► But anyways, it's, um, yeah, it's, uh, it's pretty good.

00:17:07 ◼   ► There's been this thing going on where I'm sure you're seeing it too.

00:17:11 ◼   ► Um, lots of vibe coded apps are being launched, right?

00:17:18 ◼   ► I feel like, I feel like my inbox is more full of I'm launching this app than it has been in

00:17:23 ◼   ► years.

00:17:23 ◼   ► Um, but one caught my eye, uh, by Sean Malsied.

00:17:28 ◼   ► He runs a YouTube channel called Action Retro.

00:17:32 ◼   ► He put together with Claude Code, a Markdown editor for 68k Macs called Artful Type.

00:17:39 ◼   ► Incredible.

00:17:41 ◼   ► It's amazing.

00:17:43 ◼   ► It is amazing.

00:17:43 ◼   ► You should go watch the video.

00:17:45 ◼   ► It has it on GitHub.

00:17:45 ◼   ► Um, this with a blue SCSI means it's pretty easy to get the files on and off these Macs.

00:17:51 ◼   ► That used to be really difficult before, uh, the time where you could boot these things

00:17:56 ◼   ► off an SD card and just pull the files off.

00:17:59 ◼   ► Really cool.

00:18:01 ◼   ► Um, it brings back the idea.

00:18:03 ◼   ► We've talked about it on the show.

00:18:04 ◼   ► A friend of mine and I have been obsessed for years about the idea of like a minimal writing

00:18:09 ◼   ► machine where it's like, how much, how little computer can I have to write on?

00:18:13 ◼   ► The reality is it's a bad idea, at least for me, but this, this sets the bar now.

00:18:19 ◼   ► Like I put this on a, on a Macintosh SE and write your novel, you know, in marketing.

00:18:25 ◼   ► So he mentions minimal writing environment at one point.

00:18:29 ◼   ► Um, and, uh, I wrote it down in all caps because I know that this is a thing that you have cared

00:18:35 ◼   ► about a lot.

00:18:36 ◼   ► Uh, I actually just Googled 512 pixels, minimal writing environment, like find a link.

00:18:41 ◼   ► And the AI overview says, a minimal writing environment often explored on Stephen Hackett's 512 pixels blog.

00:18:48 ◼   ► It's like, yes, it is in fact often explored.

00:18:51 ◼   ► That is the thing that Stephen has often explored many times.

00:18:55 ◼   ► It is.

00:18:56 ◼   ► But now, you know, now you can have one that cannot even connect to the internet.

00:19:00 ◼   ► Um, I think this is great.

00:19:02 ◼   ► I think this is a, I think it is very interesting to see what can happen to hobby projects.

00:19:11 ◼   ► Oh yeah.

00:19:12 ◼   ► With these new AI tools that like, like I hear about it on NPC too.

00:19:16 ◼   ► Like in people using these tools to do stuff in the, uh, emulation world and how like old

00:19:23 ◼   ► emulation projects are being improved.

00:19:27 ◼   ► Yes.

00:19:28 ◼   ► Because now like bugs can be found in this stuff or like, um, improvements can be found in

00:19:35 ◼   ► this stuff that just didn't, weren't possible before because like, we need to be realistic.

00:19:40 ◼   ► Like, no one's making this app, right?

00:19:42 ◼   ► No, nobody will make this app.

00:19:45 ◼   ► And so Action Retro has made it for what reason?

00:19:48 ◼   ► Who knows?

00:19:49 ◼   ► But I'm sure they're having a good time of it.

00:19:50 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:19:51 ◼   ► Like, realistically, are you going to write on this thing?

00:19:54 ◼   ► Like, I don't know, man.

00:19:55 ◼   ► I watched him try to get the files off.

00:19:56 ◼   ► It's like, oh boy, you'd hope there'd be an easier way, you know?

00:19:59 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:20:00 ◼   ► Uh, mm-hmm.

00:20:01 ◼   ► What was fascinating, I mean, that's all true.

00:20:04 ◼   ► I agree with all that.

00:20:05 ◼   ► What jumped out at me about this project is, I mean, of course these tools are good at

00:20:10 ◼   ► writing Swift and HTML and PHP and JavaScript, but like, it wrote a classic macOS app.

00:20:18 ◼   ► Like, yeah, that is pretty incredible.

00:20:20 ◼   ► That is pretty incredible.

00:20:21 ◼   ► It's wild.

00:20:21 ◼   ► Like, how?

00:20:22 ◼   ► How?

00:20:23 ◼   ► I mean, I know that it's like information, it's just as information exists online.

00:20:29 ◼   ► It's like, fundamentally, I understand how they did it, how it was able to do it.

00:20:34 ◼   ► But at the same time, you just, like you said, you just wouldn't think that this would be

00:20:38 ◼   ► something it could be proficient in.

00:20:40 ◼   ► But here you go.

00:20:41 ◼   ► If you want to mark that out.

00:20:43 ◼   ► I guess there's enough of it out there that it learned.

00:20:45 ◼   ► Yeah, just enough, right?

00:20:47 ◼   ► Like, just enough that it was able to bridge a modern request with old code.

00:20:52 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:20:53 ◼   ► Fascinating.

00:20:54 ◼   ► This video is really worth a watch.

00:20:55 ◼   ► It's a fun video.

00:20:56 ◼   ► If anything, just to see how to handle it.

00:20:58 ◼   ► The channel is a lot of fun.

00:21:00 ◼   ► During y'all's road to the Apple II series, the Sol computer, that company that y'all mentioned,

00:21:11 ◼   ► he has a video on one.

00:21:13 ◼   ► Which, when I was listening to the episode, I was like, I know about this computer.

00:21:15 ◼   ► And I Googled it, I was like, oh, Action Retro did a video on it.

00:21:18 ◼   ► Lots of really cool stuff.

00:21:21 ◼   ► If you're into old tech, he does a lot of Mac stuff, but he also does a lot of non-Mac stuff.

00:21:25 ◼   ► It is definitely worth a follow.

00:21:27 ◼   ► I know that we've linked to him before.

00:21:30 ◼   ► I think it was the, he put an M2 in an iMac.

00:21:35 ◼   ► Yes, I think so.

00:21:37 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:21:39 ◼   ► This episode of Connected is brought to you by Sentry.

00:21:43 ◼   ► You get a bug report.

00:21:45 ◼   ► The user says something was broken, but of course, you can't reproduce it.

00:21:50 ◼   ► So you do what you do.

00:21:52 ◼   ► You dig through logs, check traces, and you still have no idea what they actually saw.

00:21:58 ◼   ► Sentry Session Replay fixes that.

00:22:01 ◼   ► It gives you a video-like reproduction of exactly what the user experienced.

00:22:06 ◼   ► Clicks, scrolls, what loaded, what didn't.

00:22:08 ◼   ► And it's all tied to the error in one timeline.

00:22:12 ◼   ► So you can see the console output, the network calls, and even the rage clicks where the users

00:22:18 ◼   ► hammered a broken button.

00:22:19 ◼   ► And because it's built into Sentry, the replay is already linked to the error, the trace, and

00:22:24 ◼   ► the logs.

00:22:25 ◼   ► No hunting required.

00:22:27 ◼   ► We use Sentry here at Relay to monitor our content management system, which we built in-house.

00:22:33 ◼   ► We have a developer who works extremely part-time, and it's really good and useful for him to

00:22:38 ◼   ► get to the bottom of something quickly.

00:22:40 ◼   ► And Sentry lets us do that.

00:22:42 ◼   ► And privacy is on by default.

00:22:45 ◼   ► Sensitive text and media is masked, so you're never capturing what you shouldn't be.

00:22:50 ◼   ► It works on the web and mobile.

00:22:52 ◼   ► Try it for free at Sentry.io.

00:23:04 ◼   ► That's S-E-N-T-R-Y.

00:23:06 ◼   ► Sentry.io.

00:23:07 ◼   ► And tell them that we sent you.

00:23:10 ◼   ► They have a free dev plan, and listeners of this show can use Connected26 to get $100

00:23:15 ◼   ► in Sentry credits if you're a new user.

00:23:18 ◼   ► My thanks to Sentry for their support of Connected and all of Relay.

00:23:23 ◼   ► So it's the summer.

00:23:27 ◼   ► There's not a lot going on in the summer.

00:23:29 ◼   ► And we're a man down, so Stephen had the great idea to ask our Discord for Q&A questions today.

00:23:37 ◼   ► And so we have some really great questions that we can answer.

00:23:41 ◼   ► Gareth wants to know, why aren't you on a beach with Federico?

00:23:45 ◼   ► We had to do the show.

00:23:46 ◼   ► I wanted to have this question because I feel like I'm not sure whether you are a beach person or not.

00:23:54 ◼   ► I think no, but I don't know.

00:23:56 ◼   ► Not really.

00:23:57 ◼   ► I'll do it, but I'm good after like a day and a half.

00:24:03 ◼   ► Okay.

00:24:05 ◼   ► I'm not, I know some people are, my wife is one of these people.

00:24:08 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:24:09 ◼   ► I'm going to go for a week.

00:24:10 ◼   ► We're going to be on the beach all day.

00:24:12 ◼   ► We're going to have dinner.

00:24:13 ◼   ► We're going to go back to the beach in the evening and watch the sunset.

00:24:15 ◼   ► And again, I'm fine for like 36 hours, and then I'm good.

00:24:21 ◼   ► Okay.

00:24:23 ◼   ► But you'll go to the beach.

00:24:25 ◼   ► When you're on this beach all day, you're going to go?

00:24:27 ◼   ► I will go, but if it were up to me, just like, if I were just an individual person, I would not just go to the beach for fun.

00:24:36 ◼   ► Okay.

00:24:38 ◼   ► I turned into a beach person.

00:24:40 ◼   ► Okay.

00:24:40 ◼   ► Like I wasn't one and then have become one as I've gotten older.

00:24:44 ◼   ► But with a caveat, I need shade.

00:24:46 ◼   ► I don't want to be in the sun.

00:24:48 ◼   ► I want to be in shade, but I want to be on the beach.

00:24:50 ◼   ► I like it in the ocean.

00:24:52 ◼   ► So as long as I can have a beach umbrella, like I'm good.

00:24:57 ◼   ► I just, I'm not really a tanning person.

00:24:59 ◼   ► My skin is not good for that, and I don't want to do it to my skin.

00:25:03 ◼   ► So I just want a beach umbrella, and then I'm good on the beach.

00:25:09 ◼   ► Federico is a beach person.

00:25:12 ◼   ► Absolutely.

00:25:13 ◼   ► And his skin seems to want it.

00:25:15 ◼   ► And so off he goes, you know, tanning up.

00:25:19 ◼   ► Quality Snail asks, Mike, what is your current keyboard rotation like?

00:25:24 ◼   ► Any current favorites?

00:25:26 ◼   ► So my favorite keyboards, the keyboards that I'm using,

00:25:29 ◼   ► I use two keyboards at a time, one on each desk.

00:25:32 ◼   ► They're both made by a company called Mode Designs.

00:25:35 ◼   ► They make my favorite keyboards.

00:25:37 ◼   ► The main keyboard that I use is one of their models called the Sonnet,

00:25:42 ◼   ► which is also my favorite keyboard that I've ever owned,

00:25:46 ◼   ► all the ones that I've owned.

00:25:47 ◼   ► They do a really good job.

00:25:48 ◼   ► They're very beautiful, very well designed.

00:25:51 ◼   ► They used to have the ability to configure their keyboards,

00:25:55 ◼   ► so you could get like colors and materials that you wanted from their options.

00:25:58 ◼   ► They now offer kind of more just like we've pre-assembled some for you,

00:26:03 ◼   ► and you choose what color that you like.

00:26:05 ◼   ► Yeah, I've built, I'll say I remember this website when you were doing streaming stuff

00:26:09 ◼   ► because I built, you know, I never bought one.

00:26:11 ◼   ► It's like, oh, let me do like wood and copper or something.

00:26:13 ◼   ► Oh, this is $500, but it looked cool.

00:26:15 ◼   ► I think as the keyboard hobby has cooled a bit,

00:26:19 ◼   ► they're moving to a more kind of,

00:26:21 ◼   ► I would assume that it's a more cost efficient route to go down.

00:26:26 ◼   ► So the Sonnet is the keyboard that I use most.

00:26:29 ◼   ► I have another keyboard here,

00:26:31 ◼   ► which is a board they don't make anymore called the 65.

00:26:33 ◼   ► That's the one that I have right in front of me right now.

00:26:36 ◼   ► but they're the ones that I will find myself using absolutely the most.

00:26:41 ◼   ► If anything, like the Sonnet,

00:26:43 ◼   ► through various, because through various reasons,

00:26:47 ◼   ► I have three modes Sonnets,

00:26:48 ◼   ► and I just kind of cycle between them,

00:26:51 ◼   ► the colors, different colors and materials.

00:26:53 ◼   ► Basically, I bought one.

00:26:54 ◼   ► One was a prototype that they sent me,

00:26:56 ◼   ► and then a friend bought me one as a gift that was custom CerroCode.

00:27:02 ◼   ► So I have three of them.

00:27:04 ◼   ► Aaron wants to know,

00:27:08 ◼   ► what piece of technology are you looking forward to in the next year?

00:27:12 ◼   ► And what about the next five years?

00:27:14 ◼   ► I mean, five years is really hard to think about.

00:27:18 ◼   ► It always has been for me.

00:27:20 ◼   ► I don't know.

00:27:24 ◼   ► What do you think?

00:27:25 ◼   ► Well, in the next five years,

00:27:27 ◼   ► I'm very keen to see what the next wave of games consoles looks like.

00:27:31 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:27:31 ◼   ► Will there be another game,

00:27:34 ◼   ► another wave of them?

00:27:36 ◼   ► Yes.

00:27:37 ◼   ► Sony's going to make a PlayStation 6.

00:27:40 ◼   ► I mean,

00:27:40 ◼   ► and Xbox is committed to the Helix.

00:27:43 ◼   ► After that,

00:27:44 ◼   ► I don't think there will be another Xbox.

00:27:47 ◼   ► It seems like that's where they're headed,

00:27:48 ◼   ► unfortunately.

00:27:49 ◼   ► Yeah, but Sony's fine.

00:27:51 ◼   ► They will keep making them because they sell tens of millions.

00:27:55 ◼   ► They're going to be fine.

00:27:56 ◼   ► Even if they have to sell them more expensive,

00:27:59 ◼   ► they will continue to be fine.

00:28:01 ◼   ► But hopefully it will stabilize in time.

00:28:04 ◼   ► But that's why I'm like on the five-year schedule.

00:28:07 ◼   ► I mean,

00:28:07 ◼   ► really,

00:28:07 ◼   ► we should have been gearing up for new games consoles next year.

00:28:10 ◼   ► And I just don't know now when they're going to happen.

00:28:14 ◼   ► But I'm intrigued to see the stories that these companies tell about their products,

00:28:20 ◼   ► what they are for,

00:28:21 ◼   ► and how they think of them.

00:28:23 ◼   ► And I'm hoping that Sony will make a handheld PlayStation,

00:28:26 ◼   ► which I think is becoming a...

00:28:29 ◼   ► basically a Nintendo Switch for Sony,

00:28:33 ◼   ► but like for PlayStation.

00:28:34 ◼   ► And I think that could be like a dream console for me.

00:28:40 ◼   ► So it's going to be interesting to see.

00:28:41 ◼   ► So that's kind of where I am in five years.

00:28:43 ◼   ► Okay.

00:28:45 ◼   ► I think in the short term,

00:28:47 ◼   ► in the year,

00:28:49 ◼   ► I think you and I are on the same page.

00:28:50 ◼   ► What's this folding iPhone about?

00:28:52 ◼   ► Yep.

00:28:54 ◼   ► And the touchscreen revolution coming for the Mac.

00:28:59 ◼   ► I say that sort of tongue-in-cheek.

00:29:02 ◼   ► I think it'll be...

00:29:04 ◼   ► I think Apple's going to slow roll it,

00:29:05 ◼   ► which I think is a mistake.

00:29:06 ◼   ► I think you just need to rip the Band-Aid off.

00:29:08 ◼   ► Every...

00:29:10 ◼   ► I mean,

00:29:10 ◼   ► so many PC notebooks do this,

00:29:12 ◼   ► right?

00:29:12 ◼   ► And Apple has really had their head in the sand about touch being useful on notebooks.

00:29:20 ◼   ► They're going to be doing the MacBook Pro first,

00:29:22 ◼   ► and then who knows when it'll come to the MacBook Air

00:29:24 ◼   ► because they're tying it to OLED,

00:29:25 ◼   ► it seems like.

00:29:26 ◼   ► The hardware is interesting to me,

00:29:29 ◼   ► but we kind of know what the hardware is going to be, right?

00:29:31 ◼   ► Like there'll be a redesign,

00:29:32 ◼   ► but it's going to be a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen.

00:29:34 ◼   ► I'm much more interested in

00:29:37 ◼   ► what, if anything,

00:29:38 ◼   ► they do with macOS.

00:29:40 ◼   ► There was that rumor from Gurman a while back

00:29:42 ◼   ► that some elements would have like a pop-up thing,

00:29:46 ◼   ► like around your finger,

00:29:47 ◼   ► kind of the way the Microsoft Studio Dial,

00:29:50 ◼   ► I think is what they called that product did way back in the day.

00:29:52 ◼   ► I'm much more interested in the software side of it on the Mac.

00:29:56 ◼   ► It seems a bit much, right?

00:29:58 ◼   ► Like...

00:29:59 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:29:59 ◼   ► Like, do you need that?

00:30:01 ◼   ► I don't think you need that.

00:30:02 ◼   ► Like, Apple knows how to make...

00:30:04 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:30:05 ◼   ► It's like the iPad doesn't do that,

00:30:07 ◼   ► so why does the Mac need to do something like that?

00:30:09 ◼   ► Like, why not just work like a touchscreen?

00:30:12 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:30:13 ◼   ► It just seems a bit much, doesn't it?

00:30:15 ◼   ► I don't know.

00:30:15 ◼   ► I agree.

00:30:16 ◼   ► And it further closes...

00:30:18 ◼   ► I mean, it further closes the hardware gap

00:30:21 ◼   ► between the iPad and the MacBook Pro.

00:30:24 ◼   ► Very strange.

00:30:25 ◼   ► But I think they're finally going to do it.

00:30:27 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:30:28 ◼   ► I think the hardware gap doesn't matter anymore, right?

00:30:30 ◼   ► The gap now is,

00:30:31 ◼   ► can you vibe code on it or not?

00:30:33 ◼   ► Like, it's like...

00:30:34 ◼   ► macOS is the thing.

00:30:36 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:30:37 ◼   ► because macOS is cool again.

00:30:38 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:30:39 ◼   ► It is.

00:30:40 ◼   ► It always was.

00:30:42 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:30:43 ◼   ► I mean, it wasn't, though, was it?

00:30:45 ◼   ► Let's be honest.

00:30:45 ◼   ► It lost its coolness.

00:30:47 ◼   ► Right?

00:30:48 ◼   ► It did.

00:30:49 ◼   ► Sure.

00:30:49 ◼   ► When people stopped making apps,

00:30:50 ◼   ► like, no one made apps anymore.

00:30:51 ◼   ► And now, like, everyone's making apps

00:30:53 ◼   ► because it's like...

00:30:55 ◼   ► The Mac is great for where we are in technology.

00:30:57 ◼   ► Zoe says,

00:30:59 ◼   ► if you had to predict which phones

00:31:01 ◼   ► you would buy this fall right now,

00:31:03 ◼   ► what would you pick?

00:31:04 ◼   ► Hmm.

00:31:07 ◼   ► I mean, for sure,

00:31:08 ◼   ► the foldable iPhone for work.

00:31:10 ◼   ► I'm just going to borrow David's credit card.

00:31:15 ◼   ► I have actually been thinking about, like, what...

00:31:19 ◼   ► I mean, I'm sure I would use the foldable

00:31:21 ◼   ► as my personal phone for a while,

00:31:23 ◼   ► but if it didn't stick,

00:31:24 ◼   ► like, I think I would keep using my iPhone Air

00:31:29 ◼   ► unless the camera situation

00:31:31 ◼   ► is really compelling on the Pro.

00:31:32 ◼   ► Oh, so you wouldn't get a Pro in theory,

00:31:35 ◼   ► in this...

00:31:36 ◼   ► You're considering not getting a Pro.

00:31:38 ◼   ► I'm considering not getting it.

00:31:39 ◼   ► I really like the iPhone Air.

00:31:40 ◼   ► I mean, yeah.

00:31:42 ◼   ► I mean, if what happens to the Pro

00:31:44 ◼   ► is what we were just talking about,

00:31:46 ◼   ► I mean, that's going to be a real hard sell for you.

00:31:48 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:31:48 ◼   ► So we'll see.

00:31:50 ◼   ► I mean, a foldable yes

00:31:51 ◼   ► for, like, all the reasons, right?

00:31:53 ◼   ► I need it here.

00:31:54 ◼   ► I need it in the app business.

00:31:58 ◼   ► but it's very, you know,

00:32:01 ◼   ► we talked about this time last year, right?

00:32:04 ◼   ► Because the air was heavily rumored.

00:32:05 ◼   ► It's like, you know, what are we going to do?

00:32:07 ◼   ► And we will see.

00:32:10 ◼   ► I think a lot of people will have this...

00:32:14 ◼   ► I mean, a lot of people are going to look at the foldable

00:32:15 ◼   ► and be like, that's too much money.

00:32:17 ◼   ► I'm not doing it.

00:32:17 ◼   ► And fair, fair enough.

00:32:18 ◼   ► Like, if I wasn't in this business,

00:32:20 ◼   ► I'd probably feel the same way.

00:32:22 ◼   ► But having...

00:32:23 ◼   ► You'd get it?

00:32:24 ◼   ► Like, if I weren't a professional...

00:32:27 ◼   ► If I was just like...

00:32:27 ◼   ► If I was like in my old life, like...

00:32:29 ◼   ► Yeah, for the same reason that you had a blob.

00:32:31 ◼   ► Like, because you'd love this technology.

00:32:33 ◼   ► Like, I think you'd still get it.

00:32:35 ◼   ► Maybe.

00:32:36 ◼   ► It would hurt more.

00:32:37 ◼   ► Yeah, it would hurt.

00:32:38 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:32:39 ◼   ► It would hurt.

00:32:39 ◼   ► So we'll see.

00:32:40 ◼   ► We will see.

00:32:42 ◼   ► It's going to be interesting.

00:32:43 ◼   ► You know, I think the...

00:32:45 ◼   ► We talked earlier about the iPhone 18

00:32:47 ◼   ► and the Air 2 being pushed to the spring.

00:32:51 ◼   ► I don't think that's going to matter at all.

00:32:53 ◼   ► I think that people who buy an iPhone for their kid

00:32:58 ◼   ► for the holidays will just buy the 17

00:33:01 ◼   ► or honestly the 17e,

00:33:02 ◼   ► because it's also a good phone.

00:33:03 ◼   ► Or people who are going to buy the iPhone Air.

00:33:07 ◼   ► Maybe the iPhone Air sales slowed down a little bit,

00:33:11 ◼   ► but they're already so bad.

00:33:12 ◼   ► I don't think it matters.

00:33:12 ◼   ► So I don't think that's going to greatly impact

00:33:17 ◼   ► Apple's business because...

00:33:19 ◼   ► No, I think you've hit on it.

00:33:20 ◼   ► Because I think the majority of iPhone sales

00:33:23 ◼   ► between September and the end of the year

00:33:25 ◼   ► for the Pro phone.

00:33:25 ◼   ► They're for the Pro phone.

00:33:26 ◼   ► And even if it does hurt the sale of the regular phone,

00:33:31 ◼   ► the foldable, it will sell in some numbers,

00:33:35 ◼   ► and it will be much more expensive.

00:33:37 ◼   ► And Apple doesn't report the number of products sold.

00:33:42 ◼   ► They report how much money they made.

00:33:44 ◼   ► And if the foldable is expensive

00:33:47 ◼   ► and can help offset whatever happens elsewhere in the business

00:33:51 ◼   ► and the Pro's are going to be more expensive, right?

00:33:54 ◼   ► Because of Ramageddon.

00:33:55 ◼   ► I don't think...

00:33:57 ◼   ► I think zooming out on Jason's charts in a few years,

00:34:00 ◼   ► you're not going to be able to really tell

00:34:02 ◼   ► where the cycle got split into two.

00:34:05 ◼   ► No, I mean, there's like a funny thing

00:34:07 ◼   ► where they need to make this transition at some point.

00:34:10 ◼   ► And in theory, as you're kind of alluding to,

00:34:13 ◼   ► the hurt point in making a transition

00:34:14 ◼   ► like this is the first year that you do it, right?

00:34:16 ◼   ► Because then you've got like an older product in the market,

00:34:19 ◼   ► like the iPhone 17 will be over a year old

00:34:22 ◼   ► for the Christmas, for the holiday period, right?

00:34:24 ◼   ► But they're probably not going to put the price up on the 17.

00:34:29 ◼   ► And so the price gap between the 17 and the 17 Pro,

00:34:34 ◼   ► I think will mean that some people will still want to buy the 17.

00:34:38 ◼   ► So like they're probably going to do fine in that regard.

00:34:43 ◼   ► I think so.

00:34:44 ◼   ► It'd be interesting to see.

00:34:46 ◼   ► We're not going to know for sure,

00:34:47 ◼   ► but it'd be interesting to see.

00:34:47 ◼   ► For me, I know what I'm doing.

00:34:49 ◼   ► I'm buying the 18 Pro and the Fold.

00:34:51 ◼   ► Like there's, I'm committed to that.

00:34:53 ◼   ► It's what I want.

00:34:54 ◼   ► And I think, well, and I, you know,

00:34:56 ◼   ► like you need it for work stuff, right?

00:34:59 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:35:00 ◼   ► What do you think about the cherry finish that we've seen?

00:35:03 ◼   ► Not into it.

00:35:04 ◼   ► I'll take the blue one probably.

00:35:05 ◼   ► Yeah, I think I would do blue or maybe silver.

00:35:08 ◼   ► It depends on the blue.

00:35:09 ◼   ► I don't really like the dark blue this year,

00:35:11 ◼   ► but it seems like it may be lighter next time around.

00:35:14 ◼   ► The light blue is nice.

00:35:15 ◼   ► The silver is nice.

00:35:16 ◼   ► I saw a silver iPhone 17 Pro recently,

00:35:19 ◼   ► and that is good.

00:35:20 ◼   ► Can I tell you I got the silver on my MacBook Air?

00:35:22 ◼   ► You did.

00:35:23 ◼   ► For that reason?

00:35:23 ◼   ► Yeah, I think it's the classic look, you know?

00:35:26 ◼   ► Now it looks retro to me.

00:35:29 ◼   ► It kind of does.

00:35:29 ◼   ► Because I've been so far away from a silver anything for a long time.

00:35:34 ◼   ► Like I have a silver Mac Mini,

00:35:36 ◼   ► but it's in an orange case, so I don't see that.

00:35:38 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:35:38 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:35:39 ◼   ► I mean, I got Mary the Sky Blue MacBook Air,

00:35:41 ◼   ► you know, whatever it was, several months ago.

00:35:44 ◼   ► And like, you can't tell it's blue,

00:35:47 ◼   ► but you had Midnight, right?

00:35:48 ◼   ► So it's obviously different.

00:35:49 ◼   ► Yeah, I had Midnight.

00:35:49 ◼   ► I mean, I do that with my MacBook Pros.

00:35:51 ◼   ► I tend, like my previous one was silver.

00:35:53 ◼   ► This one is space black.

00:35:55 ◼   ► In eight to ten years, when I upgrade again,

00:35:59 ◼   ► it'll probably be silver.

00:36:00 ◼   ► I don't like space black.

00:36:02 ◼   ► It's fine.

00:36:04 ◼   ► Again, I did this with phones.

00:36:07 ◼   ► When phones were only white and black,

00:36:09 ◼   ► I would basically flip-flop between them

00:36:11 ◼   ► just to like have something new.

00:36:13 ◼   ► I don't want to let go of the orange, though.

00:36:15 ◼   ► That is going to be sad.

00:36:16 ◼   ► I know.

00:36:16 ◼   ► The orange is not going to be.

00:36:18 ◼   ► My orange 17 Pro is going to be my, like, development phone

00:36:24 ◼   ► as long as it's supported

00:36:25 ◼   ► because I don't want to let go of the orange.

00:36:27 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:36:28 ◼   ► It will be funny if the blue is the blue that is rumored.

00:36:31 ◼   ► You know, get the orange and blue phone.

00:36:33 ◼   ► It's going to look like the Dumb and Dumber suits.

00:36:34 ◼   ► I put those two next to each other.

00:36:38 ◼   ► That might be a fun photo to take.

00:36:39 ◼   ► That Sierra blue on, what, the 13 Pro?

00:36:42 ◼   ► Somewhere in there?

00:36:43 ◼   ► It was really nice.

00:36:44 ◼   ► I had that phone.

00:36:44 ◼   ► The images, you know, like the mock-ups that 9 to 5

00:36:48 ◼   ► and Mac Room is making stuff or whatever.

00:36:49 ◼   ► It's that kind of blue, isn't it?

00:36:51 ◼   ► Like a baby blue, sky blue-y kind of.

00:36:53 ◼   ► I do not expect that the folding phone

00:36:58 ◼   ► will become my phone, though.

00:37:00 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:37:01 ◼   ► Unless, like, the software experience really blows me away

00:37:06 ◼   ► because I just, I think that the,

00:37:10 ◼   ► if it is going to be Touch ID

00:37:12 ◼   ► and it only has two cameras,

00:37:14 ◼   ► I think I'm going to struggle with that.

00:37:15 ◼   ► I think what's going to let it down for me is those.

00:37:19 ◼   ► I think I could probably get used to the weird form factor, actually.

00:37:22 ◼   ► But I think those kind of, like, basic,

00:37:26 ◼   ► well, I consider, like, basic features,

00:37:28 ◼   ► I think that's going to grate on me over time.

00:37:32 ◼   ► I think so, too.

00:37:33 ◼   ► All right.

00:37:35 ◼   ► Dolly asked, what are your top four movies?

00:37:39 ◼   ► I did more than four, as did you.

00:37:41 ◼   ► I have, like, nine.

00:37:43 ◼   ► Because I'm really bad at picking favorite lists.

00:37:46 ◼   ► Yeah, me too.

00:37:47 ◼   ► Like, I'm just not good at it.

00:37:48 ◼   ► I don't, like, if you ask me,

00:37:50 ◼   ► what is your favorite movie?

00:37:51 ◼   ► I can't answer it.

00:37:52 ◼   ► I don't know.

00:37:53 ◼   ► So I went through my Apple TV purchases today.

00:37:59 ◼   ► That's what I did.

00:38:00 ◼   ► And picked out what, like,

00:38:02 ◼   ► obviously the movies that I bought are movies I really like.

00:38:05 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:38:05 ◼   ► And so then I just assembled a list of my favorites there.

00:38:10 ◼   ► Okay.

00:38:11 ◼   ► Do you want me to go first?

00:38:13 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:38:13 ◼   ► All right.

00:38:14 ◼   ► Avengers Endgame.

00:38:16 ◼   ► Okay.

00:38:16 ◼   ► I had to pick a Marvel movie.

00:38:18 ◼   ► Is that what we saw in person together?

00:38:20 ◼   ► No, we saw Infinity War.

00:38:21 ◼   ► Infinity War together.

00:38:22 ◼   ► That's right.

00:38:23 ◼   ► Which is a great movie,

00:38:23 ◼   ► but that one's just a real bummer.

00:38:25 ◼   ► I don't even think Endgame is my favorite,

00:38:27 ◼   ► but I had to pick one,

00:38:28 ◼   ► and so I picked Endgame.

00:38:30 ◼   ► Well, MCU movie.

00:38:32 ◼   ► I have a Spider-Man movie in a minute,

00:38:34 ◼   ► which I'll just say now.

00:38:35 ◼   ► They're in an alphabetical order,

00:38:36 ◼   ► but who cares?

00:38:36 ◼   ► Spider-Man No Way Home.

00:38:37 ◼   ► That movie was, like,

00:38:38 ◼   ► a religious experience for me.

00:38:40 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:38:40 ◼   ► Like, that movie is incredible.

00:38:42 ◼   ► I hope the new one is just as good.

00:38:44 ◼   ► It won't be,

00:38:46 ◼   ► but it'll be good in a different way.

00:38:47 ◼   ► So, like, it just,

00:38:49 ◼   ► it can't be that.

00:38:50 ◼   ► Like, that was a very specific thing.

00:38:53 ◼   ► Like, it can't be that.

00:38:54 ◼   ► But I think it's still going to be really good.

00:38:56 ◼   ► Back to the Future.

00:38:57 ◼   ► Yes.

00:38:59 ◼   ► Glen Gary, Glen Ross.

00:39:01 ◼   ► Okay.

00:39:01 ◼   ► One of my favorite movies.

00:39:02 ◼   ► Love that movie so much.

00:39:04 ◼   ► It's just a,

00:39:04 ◼   ► it's a play,

00:39:05 ◼   ► but it's a movie.

00:39:06 ◼   ► The cast is incredible.

00:39:07 ◼   ► Exactly.

00:39:08 ◼   ► Love that movie.

00:39:09 ◼   ► Goodfellas.

00:39:10 ◼   ► The Lord of the Rings,

00:39:13 ◼   ► The Fellowship of the Ring.

00:39:14 ◼   ► This is the only movie on my list here

00:39:16 ◼   ► that I've only seen once,

00:39:17 ◼   ► but that movie,

00:39:18 ◼   ► loved it.

00:39:19 ◼   ► Loved it.

00:39:21 ◼   ► You should do it.

00:39:22 ◼   ► You should do a rewatch

00:39:22 ◼   ► in all your free time.

00:39:23 ◼   ► No, no, Christmas.

00:39:24 ◼   ► Okay.

00:39:25 ◼   ► I'm planning for Christmas

00:39:25 ◼   ► to watch all of them again.

00:39:28 ◼   ► Lord of the Rings,

00:39:28 ◼   ► is it a Christmas movie?

00:39:30 ◼   ► I think so.

00:39:31 ◼   ► I don't even remember

00:39:32 ◼   ► if Fellowship was the one

00:39:34 ◼   ► that after me and Grey watched them,

00:39:36 ◼   ► if that was the one

00:39:37 ◼   ► I even put at number one.

00:39:39 ◼   ► But when I was looking back at them,

00:39:40 ◼   ► it was like,

00:39:40 ◼   ► oh,

00:39:41 ◼   ► I actually think I might have said

00:39:42 ◼   ► I liked Return of the King the most,

00:39:43 ◼   ► but I've got Fellowship on here right now

00:39:46 ◼   ► and I'll deal with that later.

00:39:47 ◼   ► No Time to Die,

00:39:48 ◼   ► James Bond movie,

00:39:49 ◼   ► Daniel Craig's Lost.

00:39:50 ◼   ► Loved that movie.

00:39:52 ◼   ► Spider-Man No Way Home,

00:39:53 ◼   ► I mentioned already.

00:39:54 ◼   ► The Wolf of Wall Street.

00:39:55 ◼   ► I do think

00:39:56 ◼   ► that my favorite actor

00:39:58 ◼   ► is Leonardo DiCaprio.

00:40:00 ◼   ► Hmm.

00:40:01 ◼   ► And my favorite director

00:40:02 ◼   ► is Martin Scorsese.

00:40:04 ◼   ► Okay.

00:40:05 ◼   ► I think that that,

00:40:07 ◼   ► I feel confident in those.

00:40:09 ◼   ► During COVID,

00:40:11 ◼   ► me and Nadine did this weird movie binges

00:40:13 ◼   ► where we would pick a director

00:40:15 ◼   ► or an actor.

00:40:16 ◼   ► I remember.

00:40:17 ◼   ► And watch basically all their best.

00:40:19 ◼   ► And the Leo one

00:40:22 ◼   ► was my favorite

00:40:23 ◼   ► of all the ones that we did.

00:40:24 ◼   ► His movie-ography

00:40:28 ◼   ► is incredible.

00:40:30 ◼   ► And finally,

00:40:31 ◼   ► Toy Story 2.

00:40:31 ◼   ► It's good.

00:40:32 ◼   ► It's a good list.

00:40:33 ◼   ► Have you seen the new Toy Story?

00:40:35 ◼   ► My kids have.

00:40:36 ◼   ► I have not.

00:40:37 ◼   ► Okay.

00:40:38 ◼   ► I haven't seen it yet either.

00:40:39 ◼   ► But I want to.

00:40:40 ◼   ► I'm scared of it though.

00:40:41 ◼   ► I think it's going to freak me out.

00:40:43 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:40:44 ◼   ► I think so too.

00:40:45 ◼   ► I feel like I'm maybe not in the right time

00:40:47 ◼   ► in my life

00:40:48 ◼   ► for dealing with screen time and kids.

00:40:51 ◼   ► I'm not sure that I need that right now.

00:40:53 ◼   ► So I'm a bit hesitant in that movie,

00:40:55 ◼   ► to be honest.

00:40:55 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:40:56 ◼   ► All right.

00:40:57 ◼   ► I did Back to the Future 1 and 3.

00:40:59 ◼   ► I love 2,

00:41:00 ◼   ► but it's just nowhere near as good, right?

00:41:02 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:41:02 ◼   ► One of 3.

00:41:03 ◼   ► It's one part of 2,

00:41:04 ◼   ► which is my favorite of all 3.

00:41:05 ◼   ► But it's...

00:41:08 ◼   ► Right?

00:41:08 ◼   ► Like when he goes

00:41:09 ◼   ► back to Mill Valley in the future,

00:41:11 ◼   ► that is my favorite moment

00:41:12 ◼   ► in all the Back to the Future movies.

00:41:13 ◼   ► It's pretty good.

00:41:14 ◼   ► But Back to the Future 2

00:41:15 ◼   ► is the worst of the 3.

00:41:16 ◼   ► It is.

00:41:17 ◼   ► Arrival.

00:41:18 ◼   ► Okay.

00:41:19 ◼   ► Very good.

00:41:20 ◼   ► Apollo 13.

00:41:22 ◼   ► The Dark Knight.

00:41:25 ◼   ► Again,

00:41:26 ◼   ► kind of like Lord of the Rings.

00:41:27 ◼   ► It's like all of them are good,

00:41:29 ◼   ► but I think the Dark Knight's the best.

00:41:30 ◼   ► That's the second one, right?

00:41:31 ◼   ► It is the second one.

00:41:32 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:41:33 ◼   ► With Heath Ledger.

00:41:34 ◼   ► Heath Ledger, yeah.

00:41:35 ◼   ► I mean, come on.

00:41:36 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:41:36 ◼   ► You know what?

00:41:37 ◼   ► I might put that on my list as well.

00:41:38 ◼   ► I might have that one as well.

00:41:39 ◼   ► It's good.

00:41:40 ◼   ► It's good.

00:41:41 ◼   ► Oppenheimer.

00:41:44 ◼   ► Recently re-watched it,

00:41:45 ◼   ► I think for the third time.

00:41:46 ◼   ► Fantastic.

00:41:48 ◼   ► Do you have tickets for the Odyssey?

00:41:49 ◼   ► Not yet.

00:41:51 ◼   ► I need to find time to go.

00:41:52 ◼   ► My brother and I are trying to find time.

00:41:53 ◼   ► And then last,

00:41:56 ◼   ► but certainly not least,

00:41:58 ◼   ► is WALL-E.

00:41:59 ◼   ► My favorite Pixar film

00:42:01 ◼   ► and one of my favorite all-time movies.

00:42:04 ◼   ► WALL-E.

00:42:05 ◼   ► WALL-E.

00:42:06 ◼   ► And a rare Pixar film without a sequel,

00:42:10 ◼   ► which I think is nice.

00:42:11 ◼   ► Well, yeah.

00:42:12 ◼   ► I know.

00:42:14 ◼   ► You just wait.

00:42:15 ◼   ► I know.

00:42:16 ◼   ► You just wait.

00:42:17 ◼   ► When those WALL-E numbers come in,

00:42:19 ◼   ► they're going to greenlight WALL-E too.

00:42:20 ◼   ► Don't you worry about that.

00:42:23 ◼   ► It's going to happen.

00:42:25 ◼   ► It'll be like WALL-F.

00:42:26 ◼   ► Like, they just go down.

00:42:28 ◼   ► Wow.

00:42:28 ◼   ► They'll just go down the list.

00:42:30 ◼   ► Wow.

00:42:31 ◼   ► Yeah, they're going to make another WALL-E movie.

00:42:32 ◼   ► WALL-E Pro Max.

00:42:33 ◼   ► They're going to make another WALL-E movie.

00:42:35 ◼   ► I mean, when he charges and makes the Mac chime sound,

00:42:40 ◼   ► it's pretty sweet, right?

00:42:41 ◼   ► Yeah, it's pretty sweet.

00:42:42 ◼   ► Similar, Chad asked,

00:42:45 ◼   ► what are your favorite podcasts to listen to at the moment

00:42:47 ◼   ► beside the rest of this history?

00:42:49 ◼   ► Wow.

00:42:49 ◼   ► Calling them out.

00:42:50 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:42:51 ◼   ► So, I think the podcasts listen to the most

00:42:54 ◼   ► Kind of Funny Games podcasts.

00:42:56 ◼   ► So, Kind of Funny Games daily,

00:42:57 ◼   ► Kind of Funny Games cast.

00:42:58 ◼   ► They are, I love them so much

00:43:00 ◼   ► because they are not anything to do with what I do.

00:43:03 ◼   ► So, it's like, just, just, you can listen to them.

00:43:06 ◼   ► Similarly, I really enjoy MPC.

00:43:08 ◼   ► I like Federico, Brandon, and John on their show.

00:43:12 ◼   ► Mac Power Users.

00:43:13 ◼   ► Mm.

00:43:14 ◼   ► I heard some things about the co-host recently.

00:43:16 ◼   ► Did you like it six months ago?

00:43:19 ◼   ► I did.

00:43:20 ◼   ► I did.

00:43:21 ◼   ► I really liked it six months ago,

00:43:22 ◼   ► and I really like it now.

00:43:23 ◼   ► Yeah, it's good.

00:43:24 ◼   ► I really like it now, too.

00:43:25 ◼   ► A new show for me, The Rest is Entertainment.

00:43:28 ◼   ► Mm.

00:43:28 ◼   ► So, it's obviously from Goalhanger.

00:43:31 ◼   ► Like, rest is history, rest is politics.

00:43:33 ◼   ► But it's about entertainment.

00:43:34 ◼   ► So, I also really love The Town.

00:43:36 ◼   ► This is like, what if The Town were more focused on British

00:43:41 ◼   ► as well as world stuff, right?

00:43:44 ◼   ► So, it's really good.

00:43:45 ◼   ► And then The Verge cast, although, just a Friday show,

00:43:49 ◼   ► if I'm being honest.

00:43:50 ◼   ► I'm not a big fan of The Daily stuff.

00:43:52 ◼   ► I've listened to a few of them,

00:43:53 ◼   ► but it's like, I don't want to listen to it every day.

00:43:55 ◼   ► Daily is too much.

00:43:56 ◼   ► So, and really, it's like with all of my podcasts.

00:44:00 ◼   ► The thing about all of these, really,

00:44:03 ◼   ► is ultimately, it becomes the relationships

00:44:06 ◼   ► between the people on the shows is what I enjoy.

00:44:09 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:44:09 ◼   ► And I really like David and Eli together.

00:44:12 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:44:12 ◼   ► That's what I like.

00:44:13 ◼   ► And you don't have that on The Daily Show.

00:44:15 ◼   ► No.

00:44:15 ◼   ► I tried telling them this.

00:44:16 ◼   ► By that, I mean, I just thought it

00:44:18 ◼   ► and didn't do anything about it.

00:44:19 ◼   ► You told them in your brain.

00:44:20 ◼   ► I did.

00:44:21 ◼   ► But there have been episodes of it that I've listened to

00:44:24 ◼   ► because it's been like,

00:44:24 ◼   ► oh, I want to know more about this piece of news.

00:44:28 ◼   ► Of course.

00:44:28 ◼   ► But it doesn't mean that I then want it every day.

00:44:31 ◼   ► And I'm sure they know this

00:44:32 ◼   ► and that's the gamble that they're taking.

00:44:34 ◼   ► Yeah, yeah.

00:44:34 ◼   ► Because what will happen in aggregate

00:44:36 ◼   ► is the listenership will grow.

00:44:38 ◼   ► and I guess that's why they're doing it.

00:44:40 ◼   ► And then Waveform,

00:44:41 ◼   ► for all of the reasons that I just mentioned.

00:44:43 ◼   ► I like that it's about tech.

00:44:45 ◼   ► I like it's about wider tech

00:44:46 ◼   ► than the stuff that I follow.

00:44:48 ◼   ► And they are all really close.

00:44:53 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:44:53 ◼   ► Waveform's great.

00:44:54 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:44:55 ◼   ► I would have that on my list as well.

00:44:57 ◼   ► I meant to ask you to go first

00:45:01 ◼   ► so I could say same to the thing

00:45:02 ◼   ► that you were going to say.

00:45:03 ◼   ► So you say it now and then I'll say it.

00:45:05 ◼   ► Acquired.

00:45:05 ◼   ► No, you've got your note here

00:45:08 ◼   ► that you haven't read.

00:45:09 ◼   ► Oh.

00:45:09 ◼   ► I mean, obviously,

00:45:11 ◼   ► everything on Relay.fm and ATP, right?

00:45:14 ◼   ► Yeah, same.

00:45:15 ◼   ► There you go.

00:45:15 ◼   ► I was trying to answer for things

00:45:17 ◼   ► that weren't in our immediate circles.

00:45:19 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:20 ◼   ► Even though Waveform and the Vergecast

00:45:23 ◼   ► are kind of close.

00:45:23 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:25 ◼   ► we know those folks

00:45:25 ◼   ► and do similar things to us.

00:45:27 ◼   ► Acquired, for sure.

00:45:29 ◼   ► All right.

00:45:30 ◼   ► I started listening to my first one.

00:45:31 ◼   ► Okay.

00:45:31 ◼   ► What did you pick first?

00:45:32 ◼   ► Walt Disney.

00:45:33 ◼   ► Yeah, the newest one.

00:45:34 ◼   ► It's like four hours long.

00:45:35 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:36 ◼   ► And I'm like an hour in

00:45:37 ◼   ► and I like it.

00:45:39 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:39 ◼   ► I will listen.

00:45:41 ◼   ► I don't listen to every episode.

00:45:43 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:44 ◼   ► But over time,

00:45:47 ◼   ► I've gone back and listened to ones

00:45:48 ◼   ► that I skipped.

00:45:49 ◼   ► Like some of the,

00:45:50 ◼   ► like they did a fashion one

00:45:51 ◼   ► earlier this year.

00:45:52 ◼   ► I even forget the brand.

00:45:53 ◼   ► LVMH?

00:45:54 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:54 ◼   ► Like I don't care.

00:45:55 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:45:55 ◼   ► Like,

00:45:56 ◼   ► but tech ones are really good.

00:45:59 ◼   ► I thought the Trader Joe's one

00:46:00 ◼   ► was super interesting.

00:46:01 ◼   ► The Nike one is really good.

00:46:04 ◼   ► I learned,

00:46:05 ◼   ► I just basically knew nothing

00:46:06 ◼   ► about the history of Nike.

00:46:07 ◼   ► and it was like,

00:46:08 ◼   ► oh,

00:46:08 ◼   ► I feel like I know a lot now.

00:46:10 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:46:11 ◼   ► Their chemistry is great.

00:46:12 ◼   ► Obviously,

00:46:13 ◼   ► it's hugely successful.

00:46:14 ◼   ► Like they're,

00:46:15 ◼   ► they're on a,

00:46:16 ◼   ► in the stratosphere,

00:46:17 ◼   ► but it's,

00:46:18 ◼   ► it's great.

00:46:19 ◼   ► They clearly work really hard.

00:46:20 ◼   ► You know,

00:46:21 ◼   ► one of my things,

00:46:22 ◼   ► and I harp on this

00:46:23 ◼   ► when I talk about podcasting is,

00:46:24 ◼   ► if I feel like you're not respecting

00:46:26 ◼   ► my time as a listener,

00:46:27 ◼   ► I'm out.

00:46:28 ◼   ► Like that's really important to me.

00:46:30 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:46:30 ◼   ► And those guys

00:46:33 ◼   ► respect their listeners' time.

00:46:35 ◼   ► Even though they take a lot of it.

00:46:37 ◼   ► They take a lot of it.

00:46:39 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:46:39 ◼   ► but they earn it

00:46:40 ◼   ► because they spend,

00:46:41 ◼   ► at some point in the Disney show,

00:46:43 ◼   ► they,

00:46:43 ◼   ► they said they've worked on that show

00:46:45 ◼   ► for a year.

00:46:45 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:46:46 ◼   ► It's,

00:46:47 ◼   ► it's on the amount of research they do

00:46:49 ◼   ► and they.

00:46:49 ◼   ► I assume they have a research team,

00:46:52 ◼   ► right?

00:46:52 ◼   ► They must.

00:46:52 ◼   ► I,

00:46:53 ◼   ► so they had.

00:46:54 ◼   ► It can't just be the two of them.

00:46:55 ◼   ► So I will say

00:46:56 ◼   ► they had

00:46:57 ◼   ► an episode on their feed

00:46:59 ◼   ► where they were interviewed by somebody.

00:47:00 ◼   ► I forget who it was.

00:47:01 ◼   ► Somebody in like the VC world.

00:47:03 ◼   ► And it was a dud.

00:47:04 ◼   ► Like the guy didn't ask good questions.

00:47:06 ◼   ► I don't think he was that familiar

00:47:08 ◼   ► with them.

00:47:09 ◼   ► I was a little surprised

00:47:09 ◼   ► at sort of how much

00:47:10 ◼   ► I thought it was a dud.

00:47:11 ◼   ► I would have loved to hear more

00:47:13 ◼   ► about their process.

00:47:14 ◼   ► But they just,

00:47:16 ◼   ► there wasn't much of that in there.

00:47:17 ◼   ► So,

00:47:18 ◼   ► they do a lot of it themselves.

00:47:20 ◼   ► I would think though

00:47:21 ◼   ► that they have a research team

00:47:22 ◼   ► or fact finders or something.

00:47:23 ◼   ► They say here on their website

00:47:25 ◼   ► they personally handcraft

00:47:26 ◼   ► each episode

00:47:27 ◼   ► over 200 hours

00:47:29 ◼   ► of research and production.

00:47:30 ◼   ► Now that can't be true.

00:47:31 ◼   ► Right?

00:47:31 ◼   ► Like it can't be.

00:47:32 ◼   ► They have to have people

00:47:33 ◼   ► that help them.

00:47:34 ◼   ► Right?

00:47:34 ◼   ► They can't,

00:47:35 ◼   ► if they do an episode a month

00:47:36 ◼   ► they can't take 200 hours.

00:47:38 ◼   ► Right?

00:47:38 ◼   ► Or can it?

00:47:39 ◼   ► Could it?

00:47:39 ◼   ► I guess it could.

00:47:40 ◼   ► I mean,

00:47:40 ◼   ► there's two of them.

00:47:41 ◼   ► I mean,

00:47:42 ◼   ► 100 hours is what?

00:47:44 ◼   ► Two and a half work weeks?

00:47:45 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:47:46 ◼   ► actually though that is possible,

00:47:47 ◼   ► isn't it?

00:47:47 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:47:48 ◼   ► maybe they do.

00:47:48 ◼   ► Like,

00:47:49 ◼   ► I mean,

00:47:49 ◼   ► if they do,

00:47:50 ◼   ► I will be even more impressed.

00:47:51 ◼   ► Like,

00:47:51 ◼   ► I would like to know.

00:47:52 ◼   ► I mean,

00:47:53 ◼   ► and this is like,

00:47:53 ◼   ► I have listened to a little bit

00:47:55 ◼   ► of one episode,

00:47:56 ◼   ► so I'm not familiar with them

00:47:57 ◼   ► at all yet.

00:47:57 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:47:58 ◼   ► It is really good.

00:47:59 ◼   ► I do feel like,

00:48:00 ◼   ► I mean,

00:48:01 ◼   ► this is the me thing.

00:48:02 ◼   ► It's like,

00:48:02 ◼   ► you can tell it's a lot of reading.

00:48:04 ◼   ► Yes.

00:48:06 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:48:07 ◼   ► And I feel like they do the thing

00:48:09 ◼   ► that they have reading jokes.

00:48:11 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:48:12 ◼   ► And it's like,

00:48:13 ◼   ► you could,

00:48:13 ◼   ► yeah.

00:48:14 ◼   ► But I don't know how I should do it

00:48:16 ◼   ► with trying to do what they're doing.

00:48:20 ◼   ► You can't hold it in your head,

00:48:21 ◼   ► you know?

00:48:21 ◼   ► No,

00:48:22 ◼   ► you cannot.

00:48:22 ◼   ► Or if you want to be right.

00:48:24 ◼   ► And they do their research

00:48:26 ◼   ► at least somewhat separately

00:48:27 ◼   ► because there are times

00:48:28 ◼   ► on episodes they're like,

00:48:29 ◼   ► oh,

00:48:30 ◼   ► I didn't know that

00:48:31 ◼   ► or I didn't find that.

00:48:32 ◼   ► And so,

00:48:33 ◼   ► it's also interesting

00:48:34 ◼   ► the way they approach

00:48:35 ◼   ► the same material

00:48:36 ◼   ► slightly differently.

00:48:37 ◼   ► I just think it's fantastic.

00:48:38 ◼   ► I'm,

00:48:38 ◼   ► I'm,

00:48:39 ◼   ► I'm,

00:48:39 ◼   ► I wonder if that's the right,

00:48:41 ◼   ► I mean,

00:48:41 ◼   ► I heard them saying this

00:48:42 ◼   ► in the Walt Disney episode.

00:48:43 ◼   ► Again,

00:48:44 ◼   ► one part of one episode.

00:48:45 ◼   ► I'm not sure that's the right process.

00:48:47 ◼   ► Like,

00:48:47 ◼   ► it feels like they could do it

00:48:49 ◼   ► in a hundred hours

00:48:49 ◼   ► if they like

00:48:50 ◼   ► divided and conquered.

00:48:51 ◼   ► Like,

00:48:52 ◼   ► I don't know.

00:48:52 ◼   ► They're so successful,

00:48:53 ◼   ► like who am I

00:48:54 ◼   ► to question their methods?

00:48:55 ◼   ► yes,

00:48:56 ◼   ► you make a great point.

00:48:57 ◼   ► They're obviously got it,

00:48:59 ◼   ► got it locked on.

00:49:00 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:49:00 ◼   ► millions of listeners.

00:49:01 ◼   ► We do not.

00:49:02 ◼   ► And they've got,

00:49:03 ◼   ► they're obviously like

00:49:04 ◼   ► very successful financially too

00:49:05 ◼   ► with the sponsors

00:49:06 ◼   ► that they,

00:49:07 ◼   ► that they have attracted.

00:49:08 ◼   ► I first came into

00:49:10 ◼   ► like understanding them

00:49:11 ◼   ► of them when I saw people

00:49:13 ◼   ► going to a show

00:49:13 ◼   ► they were doing

00:49:14 ◼   ► at Radio City Music Hall

00:49:15 ◼   ► in New York.

00:49:16 ◼   ► It's like,

00:49:16 ◼   ► oh,

00:49:17 ◼   ► okay.

00:49:17 ◼   ► Like,

00:49:17 ◼   ► I love the Hammer Theater

00:49:18 ◼   ► in San Jose,

00:49:19 ◼   ► but it ain't that.

00:49:20 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:49:20 ◼   ► You know?

00:49:21 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:49:21 ◼   ► So,

00:49:23 ◼   ► I do know now

00:49:24 ◼   ► that when I,

00:49:25 ◼   ► because like the problem

00:49:26 ◼   ► with a thing like this

00:49:27 ◼   ► is I do treat it

00:49:27 ◼   ► more like an audiobook,

00:49:28 ◼   ► so I'm pausing it

00:49:30 ◼   ► to listen to my other podcasts,

00:49:31 ◼   ► right?

00:49:32 ◼   ► And I'll come back to it

00:49:33 ◼   ► when I have more time again.

00:49:34 ◼   ► Oh, yeah.

00:49:34 ◼   ► For sure.

00:49:34 ◼   ► But I know now

00:49:36 ◼   ► that this will not be

00:49:36 ◼   ► the only episode

00:49:37 ◼   ► that I listen to.

00:49:38 ◼   ► Like,

00:49:38 ◼   ► I've had it recommended

00:49:40 ◼   ► to me so much

00:49:41 ◼   ► that I wanted to try it,

00:49:43 ◼   ► but it's just like,

00:49:44 ◼   ► it feels like such a high bar.

00:49:46 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:49:46 ◼   ► I don't know what,

00:49:47 ◼   ► but it's like,

00:49:47 ◼   ► I listen to podcasts

00:49:48 ◼   ► that are two hours all the time.

00:49:49 ◼   ► I don't know what it is.

00:49:50 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:49:51 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:49:51 ◼   ► But anyway.

00:49:51 ◼   ► Not that much longer

00:49:52 ◼   ► than the talk show.

00:49:54 ◼   ► And there's something

00:49:55 ◼   ► about your information density

00:49:57 ◼   ► in those four hours

00:49:58 ◼   ► is a little bit more

00:50:00 ◼   ► audiobook-y-like

00:50:01 ◼   ► than it is podcast-like.

00:50:03 ◼   ► But yeah,

00:50:04 ◼   ► I'm really enjoying it so far.

00:50:06 ◼   ► They are clearly

00:50:07 ◼   ► very, very good

00:50:08 ◼   ► at what they do.

00:50:09 ◼   ► Mm-hmm.

00:50:09 ◼   ► Second for me

00:50:12 ◼   ► is Decoder,

00:50:12 ◼   ► a show I don't listen

00:50:14 ◼   ► to every episode.

00:50:15 ◼   ► I listen sort of based on

00:50:16 ◼   ► topic or the guest.

00:50:19 ◼   ► It's Neela Patel's

00:50:21 ◼   ► interview of like executives,

00:50:22 ◼   ► basically.

00:50:23 ◼   ► and sometimes

00:50:24 ◼   ► he has other experts on.

00:50:25 ◼   ► Like sometimes

00:50:26 ◼   ► he'll have a report

00:50:27 ◼   ► on from The Verge

00:50:27 ◼   ► if they're covering

00:50:28 ◼   ► a story or something.

00:50:29 ◼   ► The show about big ideas

00:50:30 ◼   ► and other problems?

00:50:31 ◼   ► The intro's so bad.

00:50:32 ◼   ► I know you don't like it.

00:50:34 ◼   ► I cringe every time

00:50:35 ◼   ► they read it.

00:50:36 ◼   ► But he does a really good job.

00:50:38 ◼   ► Clearly a lot of research

00:50:39 ◼   ► is done.

00:50:40 ◼   ► There's a team behind it.

00:50:41 ◼   ► He talks about the team.

00:50:42 ◼   ► And I think it's

00:50:44 ◼   ► a great way to hear

00:50:46 ◼   ► from people

00:50:47 ◼   ► you wouldn't hear from

00:50:48 ◼   ► otherwise.

00:50:48 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:50:49 ◼   ► They just had

00:50:50 ◼   ► over the fourth

00:50:51 ◼   ► they had,

00:50:52 ◼   ► I forget his name,

00:50:52 ◼   ► but he

00:50:53 ◼   ► is basically

00:50:54 ◼   ► like the new CEO

00:50:56 ◼   ► of like Weber Grills.

00:50:57 ◼   ► They got bought out

00:50:59 ◼   ► by a competitor

00:51:00 ◼   ► and like he's running

00:51:00 ◼   ► a joint company.

00:51:01 ◼   ► Fascinating.

00:51:02 ◼   ► Like absolutely fascinating.

00:51:04 ◼   ► Yep.

00:51:05 ◼   ► so that's good.

00:51:06 ◼   ► And then my one video podcast,

00:51:09 ◼   ► all these are just audio.

00:51:11 ◼   ► I don't watch

00:51:11 ◼   ► any podcast

00:51:12 ◼   ► except

00:51:13 ◼   ► this car pod.

00:51:14 ◼   ► It's a terrible name.

00:51:16 ◼   ► It's hosted by the,

00:51:18 ◼   ► by Doug DeMuro

00:51:19 ◼   ► who's a car journalist

00:51:20 ◼   ► and he

00:51:20 ◼   ► called that.

00:51:21 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:51:21 ◼   ► And he owns

00:51:23 ◼   ► or founded

00:51:24 ◼   ► and runs

00:51:25 ◼   ► a car auction

00:51:26 ◼   ► website called

00:51:27 ◼   ► Cars and Bids.

00:51:27 ◼   ► And at first,

00:51:29 ◼   ► and it is to a degree,

00:51:31 ◼   ► basically just

00:51:32 ◼   ► sponsored content

00:51:33 ◼   ► for their show,

00:51:33 ◼   ► like for their website,

00:51:35 ◼   ► I mean.

00:51:35 ◼   ► They have other episodes

00:51:36 ◼   ► throughout the week

00:51:37 ◼   ► that are very much that.

00:51:38 ◼   ► Like,

00:51:38 ◼   ► let's go through

00:51:39 ◼   ► what's on the site

00:51:39 ◼   ► this week.

00:51:40 ◼   ► And that's interesting

00:51:40 ◼   ► because I like cars a lot.

00:51:41 ◼   ► but

00:51:42 ◼   ► this car pod

00:51:43 ◼   ► also does

00:51:44 ◼   ► automotive news.

00:51:45 ◼   ► They talk about,

00:51:47 ◼   ► you know,

00:51:48 ◼   ► cars that are rumored,

00:51:51 ◼   ► things that are happening

00:51:52 ◼   ► in the industry.

00:51:53 ◼   ► Really interesting stuff.

00:51:55 ◼   ► DeMuro is clearly,

00:51:57 ◼   ► like,

00:51:57 ◼   ► he's an expert.

00:51:57 ◼   ► He's at the top of his game.

00:51:58 ◼   ► But they have a rotating

00:52:00 ◼   ► group of panelists,

00:52:02 ◼   ► some who work

00:52:02 ◼   ► on the auction site,

00:52:03 ◼   ► some who don't.

00:52:04 ◼   ► They're also very interesting

00:52:05 ◼   ► and have their own insights

00:52:06 ◼   ► in their own ways.

00:52:07 ◼   ► And I've just really

00:52:08 ◼   ► come to enjoy it.

00:52:09 ◼   ► And it's out on Friday mornings

00:52:10 ◼   ► and I will just,

00:52:11 ◼   ► like,

00:52:11 ◼   ► play it on my second screen

00:52:12 ◼   ► just kind of in the background

00:52:14 ◼   ► on Friday mornings

00:52:14 ◼   ► and have really come

00:52:16 ◼   ► to enjoy it.

00:52:16 ◼   ► Very nice.

00:52:18 ◼   ► And then last but not least,

00:52:20 ◼   ► obviously Design in California,

00:52:21 ◼   ► but,

00:52:22 ◼   ► you know.

00:52:22 ◼   ► Oh,

00:52:23 ◼   ► that show doesn't even exist yet,

00:52:25 ◼   ► but I appreciate you

00:52:26 ◼   ► giving us the bump.

00:52:27 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:52:27 ◼   ► It exists more in my mind

00:52:30 ◼   ► because I've been reading

00:52:31 ◼   ► scripts for Jason,

00:52:31 ◼   ► so.

00:52:32 ◼   ► That's true.

00:52:33 ◼   ► You do have the inside track.

00:52:35 ◼   ► I do.

00:52:35 ◼   ► I left some comments

00:52:36 ◼   ► yesterday on some stuff.

00:52:37 ◼   ► It's turning into a

00:52:39 ◼   ► logistical problem,

00:52:40 ◼   ► problem already.

00:52:41 ◼   ► We haven't even started.

00:52:42 ◼   ► We're working it out.

00:52:46 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:52:46 ◼   ► The scripts are long,

00:52:47 ◼   ► basically.

00:52:48 ◼   ► Me and Syracuse

00:52:49 ◼   ► are really having

00:52:50 ◼   ► a sidebar conversation.

00:52:51 ◼   ► About what?

00:52:54 ◼   ► the GUI's available

00:52:55 ◼   ► in Solaris.

00:52:56 ◼   ► Oh,

00:52:57 ◼   ► I see what you mean.

00:52:58 ◼   ► Right.

00:52:58 ◼   ► Yes.

00:52:59 ◼   ► I feel like Jason's

00:53:01 ◼   ► going to start

00:53:01 ◼   ► cutting you guys off.

00:53:02 ◼   ► No,

00:53:03 ◼   ► Jason,

00:53:03 ◼   ► don't cut us off.

00:53:04 ◼   ► Jason,

00:53:04 ◼   ► no.

00:53:05 ◼   ► You're having conversations

00:53:06 ◼   ► rather than giving.

00:53:08 ◼   ► Syracuse has said

00:53:09 ◼   ► I was right,

00:53:09 ◼   ► really.

00:53:10 ◼   ► It does not matter.

00:53:11 ◼   ► Backing me up.

00:53:12 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:53:13 ◼   ► He knows what he's getting

00:53:14 ◼   ► when he sends us those links,

00:53:14 ◼   ► but don't cut me out,

00:53:15 ◼   ► Jason,

00:53:15 ◼   ► please.

00:53:16 ◼   ► Well,

00:53:16 ◼   ► I think Jason's got

00:53:18 ◼   ► like a whole thing

00:53:18 ◼   ► that he's working on

00:53:19 ◼   ► to try and stop people

00:53:20 ◼   ► from communicating.

00:53:21 ◼   ► I heard that,

00:53:22 ◼   ► and I did hear

00:53:23 ◼   ► that there may be

00:53:24 ◼   ► some people

00:53:25 ◼   ► who are exempt from that.

00:53:26 ◼   ► I'm just saying,

00:53:27 ◼   ► Jason,

00:53:27 ◼   ► I want to be exempt.

00:53:29 ◼   ► I think the people

00:53:30 ◼   ► that want to be exempt

00:53:31 ◼   ► have to set a good example.

00:53:32 ◼   ► I mean,

00:53:33 ◼   ► I didn't respond to John.

00:53:35 ◼   ► He responded to me.

00:53:36 ◼   ► There's a lot of,

00:53:38 ◼   ► you make jokes

00:53:39 ◼   ► in the comments though,

00:53:39 ◼   ► don't you?

00:53:40 ◼   ► No.

00:53:40 ◼   ► Yes,

00:53:42 ◼   ► you do.

00:53:42 ◼   ► I mean,

00:53:43 ◼   ► I've read some.

00:53:43 ◼   ► I think there are two

00:53:45 ◼   ► in the most recent.

00:53:46 ◼   ► No.

00:53:46 ◼   ► No.

00:53:48 ◼   ► But I brought sources.

00:53:49 ◼   ► I linked to a New York Times article

00:53:50 ◼   ► I don't know if Jason had seen,

00:53:51 ◼   ► and somebody referenced in the script,

00:53:53 ◼   ► I found their LinkedIn

00:53:54 ◼   ► and their job history

00:53:56 ◼   ► after the episode

00:53:57 ◼   ► is very interesting

00:53:57 ◼   ► and I think relevant,

00:53:58 ◼   ► so I talked about that.

00:53:59 ◼   ► I think this is the kind of stuff

00:54:01 ◼   ► that will get you around

00:54:03 ◼   ► making the jokes,

00:54:03 ◼   ► but I'm not in control

00:54:06 ◼   ► of this part of the process.

00:54:07 ◼   ► Jason,

00:54:07 ◼   ► don't cut me out.

00:54:09 ◼   ► So I signed up for Asana,

00:54:11 ◼   ► right,

00:54:12 ◼   ► because I'm trying to build

00:54:13 ◼   ► a production schedule.

00:54:14 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:54:14 ◼   ► I've got a lot of questions

00:54:15 ◼   ► about why that,

00:54:17 ◼   ► but okay.

00:54:18 ◼   ► Why Asana?

00:54:19 ◼   ► What do you mean?

00:54:19 ◼   ► Why Asana?

00:54:20 ◼   ► I need something

00:54:21 ◼   ► that can do Gantt charts.

00:54:22 ◼   ► Who are you?

00:54:24 ◼   ► I'm trying to do my thing.

00:54:26 ◼   ► I'm going to send you

00:54:28 ◼   ► a screenshot,

00:54:28 ◼   ► right,

00:54:29 ◼   ► and so like you can see

00:54:30 ◼   ► why I think you will be,

00:54:33 ◼   ► when you take a look at this,

00:54:34 ◼   ► I think it might give you

00:54:34 ◼   ► an impression as to why

00:54:36 ◼   ► I need a tool like this.

00:54:37 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:54:37 ◼   ► Oh,

00:54:37 ◼   ► that's it.

00:54:37 ◼   ► That's,

00:54:38 ◼   ► that's,

00:54:38 ◼   ► that's,

00:54:38 ◼   ► that's,

00:54:39 ◼   ► yeah,

00:54:39 ◼   ► there's a lot of moving

00:54:40 ◼   ► parts to this project

00:54:41 ◼   ► and they happen

00:54:42 ◼   ► in a very weird way.

00:54:43 ◼   ► So here's the thing

00:54:45 ◼   ► that I'll say to you

00:54:45 ◼   ► and I think this might

00:54:46 ◼   ► get into your mind.

00:54:47 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:54:47 ◼   ► can we share just,

00:54:48 ◼   ► the screenshot doesn't

00:54:49 ◼   ► show anything secret.

00:54:50 ◼   ► Can we share this?

00:54:51 ◼   ► Fine,

00:54:53 ◼   ► if not,

00:54:54 ◼   ► fine,

00:54:54 ◼   ► if not.

00:54:54 ◼   ► There's dates.

00:54:55 ◼   ► I don't want the dates

00:54:56 ◼   ► in yet because nothing's fixed.

00:54:58 ◼   ► maybe,

00:55:00 ◼   ► let me think about it,

00:55:01 ◼   ► let me work out,

00:55:01 ◼   ► anyway.

00:55:01 ◼   ► I'll edit the dates out.

00:55:03 ◼   ► Okay,

00:55:04 ◼   ► imagine producing

00:55:05 ◼   ► every episode

00:55:06 ◼   ► of Connected

00:55:07 ◼   ► for next month

00:55:08 ◼   ► before the month begins.

00:55:10 ◼   ► Oh yeah,

00:55:11 ◼   ► no,

00:55:11 ◼   ► no,

00:55:11 ◼   ► I understand the complexity.

00:55:12 ◼   ► that's why I need a tool.

00:55:14 ◼   ► I need,

00:55:14 ◼   ► and like,

00:55:15 ◼   ► also imagine if there's video,

00:55:17 ◼   ► right?

00:55:17 ◼   ► And also,

00:55:18 ◼   ► you know,

00:55:19 ◼   ► it's like there's a lot,

00:55:20 ◼   ► there's a lot of stuff

00:55:22 ◼   ► that needs to happen

00:55:24 ◼   ► with this project

00:55:25 ◼   ► and so I'm trying

00:55:27 ◼   ► to produce it

00:55:29 ◼   ► in a different way.

00:55:30 ◼   ► Yeah,

00:55:30 ◼   ► I mean,

00:55:30 ◼   ► this is how I feel

00:55:31 ◼   ► trying to get like

00:55:31 ◼   ► Widget Smith versions

00:55:32 ◼   ► out the door.

00:55:33 ◼   ► Exactly,

00:55:34 ◼   ► right?

00:55:34 ◼   ► It's managing people.

00:55:35 ◼   ► There's a lot of people

00:55:36 ◼   ► in this production process now.

00:55:38 ◼   ► it's like,

00:55:38 ◼   ► you know,

00:55:40 ◼   ► if we include all the fact checkers

00:55:41 ◼   ► and the script reviewers

00:55:43 ◼   ► and it's like,

00:55:43 ◼   ► we're getting up to like

00:55:44 ◼   ► 10 people in the process,

00:55:45 ◼   ► so everyone's going

00:55:47 ◼   ► to get things done

00:55:47 ◼   ► at the time

00:55:48 ◼   ► they're going to get them done

00:55:49 ◼   ► because we have to meet

00:55:50 ◼   ► the date of like

00:55:51 ◼   ► whatever it is,

00:55:51 ◼   ► right?

00:55:52 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:55:52 ◼   ► Like the beginning

00:55:53 ◼   ► of the month or whatever.

00:55:54 ◼   ► Okay,

00:55:56 ◼   ► that's fair.

00:55:56 ◼   ► You can edit the dates out.

00:55:58 ◼   ► You can share this.

00:55:58 ◼   ► Yes,

00:55:59 ◼   ► I edited the dates out.

00:56:01 ◼   ► And here's what I'll say

00:56:02 ◼   ► for anybody that uses

00:56:03 ◼   ► these tools,

00:56:04 ◼   ► I'm getting to grips with it.

00:56:06 ◼   ► You do not need to tell me

00:56:07 ◼   ► I don't need advice yet

00:56:10 ◼   ► about how to effectively

00:56:12 ◼   ► have a Gantt chart work.

00:56:13 ◼   ► That's all I'm going to say.

00:56:14 ◼   ► There you go.

00:56:16 ◼   ► This episode of the show

00:56:19 ◼   ► is brought to you

00:56:20 ◼   ► by our membership program.

00:56:22 ◼   ► If you love Connected

00:56:24 ◼   ► and want to support us directly,

00:56:25 ◼   ► Connected Pro

00:56:26 ◼   ► is the best way

00:56:28 ◼   ► to do that.

00:56:29 ◼   ► You get longer

00:56:30 ◼   ► and add free versions

00:56:31 ◼   ► of the show

00:56:32 ◼   ► each and every week.

00:56:34 ◼   ► We have an extra topic

00:56:35 ◼   ► at the beginning,

00:56:35 ◼   ► we pick titles at the end,

00:56:37 ◼   ► and you don't hear

00:56:38 ◼   ► any ads.

00:56:39 ◼   ► And every Connected Pro

00:56:40 ◼   ► membership comes with

00:56:41 ◼   ► a bunch of awesome goodies

00:56:43 ◼   ► from Relay.

00:56:44 ◼   ► A couple of members-only

00:56:45 ◼   ► podcasts,

00:56:46 ◼   ► members-only annual specials

00:56:48 ◼   ► that we post in the summer,

00:56:50 ◼   ► a newsletter,

00:56:51 ◼   ► access to the Discord,

00:56:52 ◼   ► and more.

00:56:53 ◼   ► So go check it out.

00:56:54 ◼   ► There's a link in the show notes.

00:56:55 ◼   ► And between now

00:56:57 ◼   ► and July 31st,

00:56:58 ◼   ► use the code

00:57:00 ◼   ► TINYHEADS15

00:57:01 ◼   ► when signing up

00:57:03 ◼   ► for an annual

00:57:04 ◼   ► Connected Pro subscription

00:57:05 ◼   ► or reactivating

00:57:07 ◼   ► an expired one,

00:57:07 ◼   ► and you'll get 15% off.

00:57:10 ◼   ► That's 15% off

00:57:11 ◼   ► when buying a new

00:57:12 ◼   ► annual Connected Pro subscription

00:57:14 ◼   ► or reactivating

00:57:15 ◼   ► an expired one

00:57:16 ◼   ► with the coupon code

00:57:17 ◼   ► TINYHEADS15

00:57:19 ◼   ► between now

00:57:20 ◼   ► and July 31st.

00:57:24 ◼   ► Jambo asks,

00:57:25 ◼   ► public perception

00:57:26 ◼   ► of smart glasses

00:57:27 ◼   ► seems to be waning.

00:57:28 ◼   ► Would Apple smart glasses

00:57:29 ◼   ► be dead on arrival?

00:57:30 ◼   ► I think it'd be

00:57:32 ◼   ► a little tone-deaf

00:57:34 ◼   ► at this point.

00:57:36 ◼   ► So you recently spoke

00:57:37 ◼   ► about this on Upgrade.

00:57:40 ◼   ► So for those who didn't hear it,

00:57:41 ◼   ► where are you with this?

00:57:42 ◼   ► Because you own

00:57:43 ◼   ► some version of the...

00:57:45 ◼   ► I have Mento Ray-Bans

00:57:46 ◼   ► on my prescription sunglasses.

00:57:47 ◼   ► They're the only

00:57:48 ◼   ► prescription sunglasses I have.

00:57:49 ◼   ► They were very expensive,

00:57:51 ◼   ► and I just purchased

00:57:52 ◼   ► a regular pair

00:57:53 ◼   ► of prescription sunglasses.

00:57:54 ◼   ► because I just don't feel

00:57:55 ◼   ► comfortable wearing them anymore

00:57:56 ◼   ► because people are

00:57:57 ◼   ► turning against them.

00:57:58 ◼   ► And so I feel like

00:58:00 ◼   ► people consider me

00:58:02 ◼   ► trying to attack them

00:58:03 ◼   ► just by me wearing

00:58:04 ◼   ► my sunglasses.

00:58:05 ◼   ► You know what I mean?

00:58:06 ◼   ► Yeah, yeah, of course.

00:58:06 ◼   ► And it's a real problem

00:58:08 ◼   ► because technologically

00:58:09 ◼   ► they're incredible.

00:58:10 ◼   ► It's an incredible

00:58:12 ◼   ► piece of technology.

00:58:13 ◼   ► Being able to listen

00:58:17 ◼   ► to podcasts

00:58:17 ◼   ► without anything

00:58:18 ◼   ► in my ears.

00:58:19 ◼   ► Awesome.

00:58:20 ◼   ► Being able

00:58:21 ◼   ► to have a camera

00:58:22 ◼   ► that is always

00:58:24 ◼   ► available to me,

00:58:25 ◼   ► fantastic.

00:58:25 ◼   ► And the camera,

00:58:27 ◼   ► you get photos

00:58:29 ◼   ► you would never

00:58:30 ◼   ► otherwise get

00:58:31 ◼   ► either through speed

00:58:32 ◼   ► of being able

00:58:33 ◼   ► to take the picture

00:58:34 ◼   ► or the point of view.

00:58:35 ◼   ► They're incredible

00:58:38 ◼   ► technology.

00:58:38 ◼   ► It just seems like

00:58:41 ◼   ► the world

00:58:42 ◼   ► was ready for it

00:58:43 ◼   ► for a little bit

00:58:44 ◼   ► and then changed its mind.

00:58:45 ◼   ► You know?

00:58:45 ◼   ► When these started

00:58:46 ◼   ► to take off again,

00:58:47 ◼   ► people seemed like

00:58:48 ◼   ► they were excited

00:58:49 ◼   ► about them, right?

00:58:50 ◼   ► by and large

00:58:51 ◼   ► and now that's

00:58:53 ◼   ► shifted again

00:58:54 ◼   ► and I think

00:58:55 ◼   ► it's the feeling

00:58:56 ◼   ► of Meta

00:58:57 ◼   ► as a company

00:58:58 ◼   ► that's done it.

00:58:58 ◼   ► Meta had,

00:59:00 ◼   ► I was thinking

00:59:00 ◼   ► about this the other day

00:59:01 ◼   ► because there's a story

00:59:03 ◼   ► that like they're using

00:59:04 ◼   ► Instagram content

00:59:05 ◼   ► for AI stuff.

00:59:07 ◼   ► It's gross.

00:59:08 ◼   ► Meta had its moment

00:59:10 ◼   ► post Twitter

00:59:12 ◼   ► like, oh,

00:59:13 ◼   ► like Threads is cool

00:59:14 ◼   ► and they're going to

00:59:15 ◼   ► like not have ads on it.

00:59:17 ◼   ► Right?

00:59:17 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:59:17 ◼   ► Cool Zuck.

00:59:19 ◼   ► Cool Zuck.

00:59:20 ◼   ► He had a chain.

00:59:21 ◼   ► He had shirts

00:59:22 ◼   ► that were too big.

00:59:23 ◼   ► It said Roman things

00:59:24 ◼   ► on him.

00:59:24 ◼   ► He was doing MMA.

00:59:25 ◼   ► He was smoking

00:59:27 ◼   ► all the stuff we like.

00:59:28 ◼   ► Smoking meats.

00:59:29 ◼   ► That has come and gone.

00:59:32 ◼   ► Yes.

00:59:33 ◼   ► I think their reputation

00:59:35 ◼   ► is,

00:59:35 ◼   ► I think that was a blip

00:59:37 ◼   ► for them.

00:59:38 ◼   ► The other thing

00:59:40 ◼   ► I think about though

00:59:40 ◼   ► in these products

00:59:41 ◼   ► is

00:59:42 ◼   ► when the first ones

00:59:44 ◼   ► were out,

00:59:44 ◼   ► they weren't pitched

00:59:46 ◼   ► as,

00:59:47 ◼   ► I don't think,

00:59:48 ◼   ► I don't remember,

00:59:48 ◼   ► correct me if I'm wrong,

00:59:49 ◼   ► they weren't pitched

00:59:50 ◼   ► as like AI glasses.

00:59:51 ◼   ► No.

00:59:52 ◼   ► They were glasses

00:59:53 ◼   ► with like cameras

00:59:54 ◼   ► and speakers.

00:59:56 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:59:56 ◼   ► Yeah.

00:59:57 ◼   ► And

00:59:58 ◼   ► to what degree

01:00:00 ◼   ► they have put AI

01:00:01 ◼   ► into these products,

01:00:02 ◼   ► which isn't,

01:00:03 ◼   ► like your glasses,

01:00:05 ◼   ► that your glasses

01:00:05 ◼   ► haven't like earned

01:00:06 ◼   ► AI features,

01:00:07 ◼   ► right?

01:00:07 ◼   ► No,

01:00:08 ◼   ► they have.

01:00:09 ◼   ► They have?

01:00:09 ◼   ► Okay.

01:00:09 ◼   ► I wonder if that's

01:00:11 ◼   ► what's driven

01:00:12 ◼   ► the turn here

01:00:14 ◼   ► is that it's not

01:00:15 ◼   ► about glasses

01:00:16 ◼   ► with a camera,

01:00:16 ◼   ► although certainly

01:00:17 ◼   ► that is a thing

01:00:17 ◼   ► for a lot of people,

01:00:18 ◼   ► understandably.

01:00:19 ◼   ► I think that's the thing

01:00:20 ◼   ► that people are saying

01:00:20 ◼   ► they don't like,

01:00:21 ◼   ► but I still,

01:00:22 ◼   ► I'm still following you

01:00:23 ◼   ► that I think it's

01:00:25 ◼   ► Metz's perception

01:00:26 ◼   ► and the AI

01:00:27 ◼   ► of it all

01:00:28 ◼   ► has dragged

01:00:29 ◼   ► this product

01:00:30 ◼   ► through the mud.

01:00:30 ◼   ► Yes.

01:00:31 ◼   ► I think the AI

01:00:32 ◼   ► of it all

01:00:32 ◼   ► has

01:00:33 ◼   ► potentially

01:00:34 ◼   ► put

01:00:36 ◼   ► its

01:00:37 ◼   ► eventual decline

01:00:39 ◼   ► into like

01:00:40 ◼   ► overdrive.

01:00:40 ◼   ► Yeah.

01:00:41 ◼   ► Because it doesn't

01:00:43 ◼   ► pass the logic test,

01:00:44 ◼   ► right?

01:00:45 ◼   ► Because

01:00:45 ◼   ► I have

01:00:47 ◼   ► my phone

01:00:48 ◼   ► with a camera

01:00:49 ◼   ► on it

01:00:49 ◼   ► available to me

01:00:51 ◼   ► and in front

01:00:52 ◼   ► of people

01:00:52 ◼   ► all the time.

01:00:53 ◼   ► Yes.

01:00:54 ◼   ► That's true.

01:00:56 ◼   ► Right?

01:00:57 ◼   ► I do think

01:00:57 ◼   ► there's just like

01:00:58 ◼   ► something fundamentally

01:00:59 ◼   ► different about

01:01:00 ◼   ► it being

01:01:02 ◼   ► on your face.

01:01:03 ◼   ► Yeah.

01:01:04 ◼   ► And like,

01:01:04 ◼   ► you can kind of tell

01:01:06 ◼   ► when someone's taking

01:01:07 ◼   ► a picture on their phone,

01:01:07 ◼   ► but also the phone

01:01:09 ◼   ► also the phone has

01:01:10 ◼   ► like

01:01:11 ◼   ► whatever it is

01:01:12 ◼   ► 18 years of

01:01:13 ◼   ► runway

01:01:16 ◼   ► behind it

01:01:16 ◼   ► and these glasses

01:01:17 ◼   ► don't.

01:01:17 ◼   ► It's just different

01:01:19 ◼   ► I think

01:01:19 ◼   ► when it's on your face

01:01:20 ◼   ► and out all the time.

01:01:21 ◼   ► Yeah.

01:01:22 ◼   ► It's very

01:01:23 ◼   ► it's a very interesting

01:01:24 ◼   ► thing but

01:01:25 ◼   ► I feel like

01:01:26 ◼   ► I don't know

01:01:27 ◼   ► what the future

01:01:28 ◼   ► is for this technology.

01:01:29 ◼   ► I think it

01:01:30 ◼   ► depends on

01:01:31 ◼   ► if Apple want to

01:01:32 ◼   ► get into this

01:01:32 ◼   ► it depends on

01:01:33 ◼   ► the features

01:01:33 ◼   ► that they have

01:01:34 ◼   ► and how they

01:01:34 ◼   ► want to market them

01:01:35 ◼   ► but I think

01:01:36 ◼   ► the focus on

01:01:37 ◼   ► cameras

01:01:37 ◼   ► which was

01:01:38 ◼   ► the previous

01:01:39 ◼   ► main selling point

01:01:40 ◼   ► now seems to be

01:01:40 ◼   ► a tougher sell

01:01:41 ◼   ► and so

01:01:42 ◼   ► I do not know.

01:01:44 ◼   ► I mean

01:01:44 ◼   ► maybe the benefit

01:01:45 ◼   ► for them

01:01:46 ◼   ► is that they were

01:01:46 ◼   ► so late

01:01:47 ◼   ► that they're not

01:01:47 ◼   ► going to have

01:01:47 ◼   ► this product ready

01:01:48 ◼   ► until at least

01:01:49 ◼   ► the end of next year

01:01:49 ◼   ► like I don't know

01:01:50 ◼   ► but maybe at the same time

01:01:52 ◼   ► Matt has taken it

01:01:53 ◼   ► in a different direction

01:01:54 ◼   ► now and they're trying

01:01:55 ◼   ► to be more fashion

01:01:56 ◼   ► focused

01:01:56 ◼   ► but I just

01:01:57 ◼   ► you know

01:01:58 ◼   ► one of the big

01:01:59 ◼   ► big shifts

01:02:00 ◼   ► for me

01:02:01 ◼   ► is like

01:02:01 ◼   ► when they just

01:02:02 ◼   ► announced

01:02:02 ◼   ► all their recent

01:02:03 ◼   ► glasses

01:02:04 ◼   ► anyone

01:02:04 ◼   ► that I saw

01:02:05 ◼   ► that bought

01:02:06 ◼   ► them

01:02:06 ◼   ► on Instagram

01:02:06 ◼   ► or whatever

01:02:07 ◼   ► or sent them

01:02:08 ◼   ► I was looking

01:02:09 ◼   ► in the comments

01:02:09 ◼   ► and the comments

01:02:10 ◼   ► are just full

01:02:10 ◼   ► of negativity

01:02:11 ◼   ► in a way

01:02:12 ◼   ► that I don't

01:02:13 ◼   ► feel like

01:02:13 ◼   ► it was there

01:02:14 ◼   ► before

01:02:14 ◼   ► in the same

01:02:15 ◼   ► in the same

01:02:16 ◼   ► way

01:02:16 ◼   ► so it's

01:02:18 ◼   ► I think

01:02:18 ◼   ► it's a shame

01:02:19 ◼   ► because I think

01:02:19 ◼   ► we're

01:02:20 ◼   ► we're

01:02:21 ◼   ► we're missing out

01:02:22 ◼   ► on something

01:02:23 ◼   ► that could be great

01:02:23 ◼   ► if we could all

01:02:24 ◼   ► just agree

01:02:25 ◼   ► on using them

01:02:26 ◼   ► well

01:02:26 ◼   ► you know what I mean

01:02:27 ◼   ► but I think

01:02:28 ◼   ► that's clearly

01:02:29 ◼   ► not the case

01:02:30 ◼   ► it's a shame

01:02:30 ◼   ► you should just wear

01:02:31 ◼   ► your Vision Pro

01:02:32 ◼   ► all the time

01:02:32 ◼   ► and take pictures

01:02:33 ◼   ► with it

01:02:33 ◼   ► yeah

01:02:34 ◼   ► I don't think

01:02:36 ◼   ► I'm going to do that

01:02:37 ◼   ► chat asks

01:02:40 ◼   ► what suggestions

01:02:41 ◼   ► do you have

01:02:41 ◼   ► for long

01:02:42 ◼   ► car

01:02:42 ◼   ► or plane trips

01:02:43 ◼   ► an iPad

01:02:45 ◼   ► full of TV shows

01:02:46 ◼   ► that you like

01:02:47 ◼   ► and the episodes

01:02:48 ◼   ► of the TV show

01:02:49 ◼   ► should be one hour

01:02:49 ◼   ► okay

01:02:51 ◼   ► because then

01:02:52 ◼   ► if you're going

01:02:52 ◼   ► to be taking

01:02:53 ◼   ► an eight hour flight

01:02:54 ◼   ► it's just eight

01:02:54 ◼   ► episodes of TV

01:02:55 ◼   ► and not 16

01:02:57 ◼   ► which feels worse

01:02:57 ◼   ► somehow

01:02:58 ◼   ► yes

01:02:58 ◼   ► so I feel like

01:03:00 ◼   ► for me

01:03:01 ◼   ► that really helps

01:03:01 ◼   ► like a long

01:03:02 ◼   ► plane journey

01:03:03 ◼   ► not feel so bad

01:03:03 ◼   ► because it's like

01:03:04 ◼   ► we were just

01:03:04 ◼   ► watching eight

01:03:05 ◼   ► episodes of

01:03:06 ◼   ► succession

01:03:06 ◼   ► okay

01:03:07 ◼   ► yeah

01:03:08 ◼   ► yeah I think

01:03:09 ◼   ► that's good

01:03:10 ◼   ► I can't do that

01:03:12 ◼   ► in a car

01:03:12 ◼   ► I get motion sick

01:03:13 ◼   ► I actually have to

01:03:14 ◼   ► be driving the car

01:03:15 ◼   ► basically

01:03:16 ◼   ► or being in the

01:03:16 ◼   ► front seat

01:03:17 ◼   ► just looking out

01:03:17 ◼   ► the front window

01:03:18 ◼   ► quietly

01:03:18 ◼   ► it's fine to watch

01:03:19 ◼   ► succession when you

01:03:20 ◼   ► drive in the car

01:03:20 ◼   ► right

01:03:20 ◼   ► yes

01:03:21 ◼   ► as long as I'm

01:03:22 ◼   ► driving

01:03:22 ◼   ► I can watch it

01:03:23 ◼   ► on a plane though

01:03:25 ◼   ► I agree

01:03:25 ◼   ► hour long shows

01:03:26 ◼   ► are great

01:03:27 ◼   ► I would say

01:03:29 ◼   ► be a little mindful

01:03:30 ◼   ► of what you're

01:03:31 ◼   ► watching

01:03:31 ◼   ► you know

01:03:32 ◼   ► there's some nudie

01:03:32 ◼   ► in it

01:03:33 ◼   ► maybe don't have

01:03:33 ◼   ► it on a plane

01:03:34 ◼   ► that feels weird

01:03:35 ◼   ► I have like a

01:03:35 ◼   ► whole system

01:03:36 ◼   ► of like pulling

01:03:38 ◼   ► the iPad to my

01:03:39 ◼   ► chest

01:03:39 ◼   ► yes

01:03:40 ◼   ► when needed

01:03:41 ◼   ► you know

01:03:41 ◼   ► yeah

01:03:41 ◼   ► for sure

01:03:42 ◼   ► it's like a

01:03:42 ◼   ► whole system

01:03:43 ◼   ► you can also

01:03:45 ◼   ► read

01:03:45 ◼   ► use a Kindle

01:03:46 ◼   ► I will say

01:03:46 ◼   ► I have lost

01:03:47 ◼   ► a Kindle

01:03:48 ◼   ► on an airplane

01:03:48 ◼   ► but

01:03:49 ◼   ► you know

01:03:51 ◼   ► so noise

01:03:51 ◼   ► cancelling

01:03:52 ◼   ► headphones

01:03:52 ◼   ► with like

01:03:52 ◼   ► just some

01:03:53 ◼   ► white noise

01:03:53 ◼   ► or brown

01:03:54 ◼   ► noise

01:03:54 ◼   ► in my case

01:03:55 ◼   ► is my

01:03:55 ◼   ► preferred

01:03:56 ◼   ► background noise

01:03:57 ◼   ► it's the best

01:03:57 ◼   ► color noise

01:03:58 ◼   ► it is

01:03:58 ◼   ► it's a great

01:04:00 ◼   ► time to do

01:04:00 ◼   ► some reading

01:04:00 ◼   ► too

01:04:01 ◼   ► Paul wants

01:04:03 ◼   ► to know

01:04:04 ◼   ► do either

01:04:04 ◼   ► of you wear

01:04:05 ◼   ► wrist watches

01:04:06 ◼   ► that aren't

01:04:07 ◼   ► smart

01:04:07 ◼   ► I do

01:04:09 ◼   ► I have

01:04:11 ◼   ► for years

01:04:12 ◼   ► had an

01:04:12 ◼   ► on and off

01:04:13 ◼   ► relationship

01:04:13 ◼   ► with the

01:04:13 ◼   ► Apple watch

01:04:14 ◼   ► when we're

01:04:17 ◼   ► in like

01:04:17 ◼   ► pedometer

01:04:18 ◼   ► development

01:04:19 ◼   ► mode

01:04:19 ◼   ► like I'm

01:04:20 ◼   ► wearing an

01:04:20 ◼   ► Apple watch

01:04:21 ◼   ► every day

01:04:21 ◼   ► right

01:04:22 ◼   ► it's

01:04:22 ◼   ► important to

01:04:23 ◼   ► see how

01:04:24 ◼   ► it's doing

01:04:24 ◼   ► I will be

01:04:25 ◼   ► back there

01:04:25 ◼   ► soon as we

01:04:26 ◼   ► get into

01:04:27 ◼   ► like work

01:04:27 ◼   ► for 27

01:04:28 ◼   ► but

01:04:29 ◼   ► currently

01:04:30 ◼   ► I'm not

01:04:31 ◼   ► so like

01:04:32 ◼   ► today

01:04:32 ◼   ► I'm wearing

01:04:34 ◼   ► I'm a big

01:04:35 ◼   ► Casio fan

01:04:37 ◼   ► I'm wearing

01:04:37 ◼   ► a G-Shock

01:04:38 ◼   ► you prepared

01:04:39 ◼   ► GW M5610U-1

01:04:43 ◼   ► which

01:04:44 ◼   ► what's cool

01:04:45 ◼   ► about this

01:04:45 ◼   ► one is that

01:04:47 ◼   ► it's solar

01:04:47 ◼   ► powered

01:04:48 ◼   ► and it

01:04:50 ◼   ► has an

01:04:50 ◼   ► atomic

01:04:50 ◼   ► clock radio

01:04:51 ◼   ► in it

01:04:51 ◼   ► so it

01:04:52 ◼   ► sets the

01:04:52 ◼   ► time every

01:04:53 ◼   ► night

01:04:53 ◼   ► automatically

01:04:54 ◼   ► now

01:04:55 ◼   ► it really

01:04:56 ◼   ► needs line

01:04:57 ◼   ► of sight

01:04:57 ◼   ► to the sky

01:04:58 ◼   ► to do

01:04:58 ◼   ► that

01:04:58 ◼   ► and you

01:04:59 ◼   ► can manually

01:04:59 ◼   ► do it

01:05:00 ◼   ► like you

01:05:00 ◼   ► can go

01:05:00 ◼   ► outside

01:05:00 ◼   ► and like

01:05:01 ◼   ► hit the

01:05:01 ◼   ► button

01:05:01 ◼   ► it'll

01:05:01 ◼   ► do

01:05:01 ◼   ► it

01:05:02 ◼   ► at my

01:05:03 ◼   ► house

01:05:03 ◼   ► there's

01:05:03 ◼   ► one

01:05:04 ◼   ► specific

01:05:04 ◼   ► place

01:05:04 ◼   ► in my

01:05:05 ◼   ► bathroom

01:05:05 ◼   ► counter

01:05:05 ◼   ► if I

01:05:06 ◼   ► sit it

01:05:06 ◼   ► it will

01:05:06 ◼   ► sink

01:05:07 ◼   ► and otherwise

01:05:08 ◼   ► it doesn't

01:05:09 ◼   ► so I

01:05:10 ◼   ► sit it

01:05:10 ◼   ► there

01:05:10 ◼   ► if I'm

01:05:11 ◼   ► wearing

01:05:11 ◼   ► it

01:05:11 ◼   ► the watch

01:05:13 ◼   ► does not

01:05:13 ◼   ► drift

01:05:13 ◼   ► hardly

01:05:14 ◼   ► at all

01:05:15 ◼   ► but

01:05:16 ◼   ► it's

01:05:16 ◼   ► kind of

01:05:17 ◼   ► cool

01:05:17 ◼   ► that it

01:05:17 ◼   ► syncs

01:05:17 ◼   ► with the

01:05:17 ◼   ► atomic

01:05:18 ◼   ► clock

01:05:18 ◼   ► you know

01:05:19 ◼   ► yeah

01:05:19 ◼   ► that sounds

01:05:21 ◼   ► like something

01:05:21 ◼   ► you'd like

01:05:21 ◼   ► yeah

01:05:22 ◼   ► and it's

01:05:22 ◼   ► just like

01:05:22 ◼   ► you know

01:05:23 ◼   ► classic

01:05:23 ◼   ► G-shot

01:05:24 ◼   ► kind of

01:05:24 ◼   ► square

01:05:25 ◼   ► watch

01:05:25 ◼   ► I

01:05:27 ◼   ► also

01:05:28 ◼   ► rotate

01:05:29 ◼   ► in and out

01:05:30 ◼   ► a

01:05:31 ◼   ► DDC

01:05:31 ◼   ► 200

01:05:32 ◼   ► Timex

01:05:33 ◼   ► so this

01:05:33 ◼   ► is

01:05:34 ◼   ► by Aaron

01:05:35 ◼   ► Draplin

01:05:35 ◼   ► friend of

01:05:36 ◼   ► the show

01:05:37 ◼   ► Aaron

01:05:37 ◼   ► I don't

01:05:38 ◼   ► he doesn't

01:05:38 ◼   ► know us

01:05:38 ◼   ► I wished

01:05:39 ◼   ► we're both

01:05:40 ◼   ► big fans

01:05:41 ◼   ► of his

01:05:41 ◼   ► design work

01:05:42 ◼   ► I have a

01:05:42 ◼   ► signed copy

01:05:43 ◼   ► of his book

01:05:43 ◼   ► here

01:05:43 ◼   ► so I

01:05:44 ◼   ► have my

01:05:44 ◼   ► bookcase

01:05:44 ◼   ► and

01:05:45 ◼   ► several years

01:05:46 ◼   ► ago

01:05:47 ◼   ► he did a

01:05:48 ◼   ► Draplin

01:05:49 ◼   ► tweaked

01:05:50 ◼   ► Timex

01:05:50 ◼   ► weekender

01:05:51 ◼   ► in his

01:05:52 ◼   ► sort of

01:05:52 ◼   ► black and

01:05:53 ◼   ► orange and

01:05:53 ◼   ► white style

01:05:54 ◼   ► I adore

01:05:55 ◼   ► that watch

01:05:56 ◼   ► and I also

01:05:57 ◼   ► wear that

01:05:57 ◼   ► a fair amount

01:05:58 ◼   ► not as

01:05:59 ◼   ► much as

01:05:59 ◼   ► the G-Shock

01:06:00 ◼   ► but a

01:06:01 ◼   ► fair bit

01:06:02 ◼   ► and then

01:06:03 ◼   ► you've added

01:06:04 ◼   ► to this

01:06:04 ◼   ► the

01:06:05 ◼   ► Ollie

01:06:06 ◼   ► Watch

01:06:07 ◼   ► I've been

01:06:08 ◼   ► seeing this

01:06:09 ◼   ► and I've

01:06:09 ◼   ► been meaning

01:06:09 ◼   ► to send

01:06:10 ◼   ► it to you

01:06:10 ◼   ► because I

01:06:10 ◼   ► thought it

01:06:11 ◼   ► would be

01:06:11 ◼   ► something you

01:06:11 ◼   ► would like

01:06:12 ◼   ► to do

01:06:12 ◼   ► so this

01:06:13 ◼   ► is

01:06:14 ◼   ► I think

01:06:15 ◼   ► it's just

01:06:16 ◼   ► a guy

01:06:16 ◼   ► they talked

01:06:17 ◼   ► about this

01:06:17 ◼   ► on Waveform

01:06:18 ◼   ► which is how

01:06:18 ◼   ► I came

01:06:18 ◼   ► across it

01:06:19 ◼   ► okay

01:06:20 ◼   ► that has

01:06:21 ◼   ► taken the

01:06:22 ◼   ► Casio

01:06:23 ◼   ► F91W

01:06:24 ◼   ► which is like

01:06:24 ◼   ► the cheap

01:06:25 ◼   ► Casio

01:06:28 ◼   ► and

01:06:30 ◼   ► has built

01:06:32 ◼   ► a replacement

01:06:32 ◼   ► logic board

01:06:33 ◼   ► for it

01:06:34 ◼   ► that adds

01:06:34 ◼   ► a bunch

01:06:35 ◼   ► of features

01:06:36 ◼   ► and it

01:06:37 ◼   ► syncs

01:06:37 ◼   ► with your

01:06:38 ◼   ► phone

01:06:38 ◼   ► with a

01:06:38 ◼   ► phone app

01:06:39 ◼   ► so

01:06:40 ◼   ► like my

01:06:41 ◼   ► Casio has

01:06:41 ◼   ► a world

01:06:42 ◼   ► clock

01:06:42 ◼   ► and I

01:06:42 ◼   ► have it

01:06:42 ◼   ► set up

01:06:43 ◼   ► for like

01:06:43 ◼   ► Rome

01:06:44 ◼   ► London

01:06:45 ◼   ► East Coast

01:06:46 ◼   ► West Coast

01:06:47 ◼   ► but it was

01:06:48 ◼   ► really tedious

01:06:49 ◼   ► to do

01:06:50 ◼   ► and

01:06:51 ◼   ► not all

01:06:52 ◼   ► these places

01:06:53 ◼   ► observe

01:06:53 ◼   ► daylight savings

01:06:54 ◼   ► time

01:06:54 ◼   ► the same

01:06:55 ◼   ► time

01:06:55 ◼   ► and sometimes

01:06:56 ◼   ► the watch

01:06:56 ◼   ► gets it

01:06:56 ◼   ► right

01:06:57 ◼   ► but not

01:06:57 ◼   ► always

01:06:57 ◼   ► the

01:06:59 ◼   ► Ollie

01:06:59 ◼   ► board

01:07:00 ◼   ► makes it

01:07:01 ◼   ► really easy

01:07:01 ◼   ► to do

01:07:01 ◼   ► from your

01:07:01 ◼   ► phone

01:07:02 ◼   ► you can

01:07:04 ◼   ► set alarms

01:07:04 ◼   ► and timers

01:07:05 ◼   ► off from your

01:07:05 ◼   ► phone

01:07:06 ◼   ► and it goes

01:07:06 ◼   ► off on the

01:07:07 ◼   ► watch

01:07:07 ◼   ► so

01:07:07 ◼   ► I think

01:07:08 ◼   ► it does

01:07:08 ◼   ► step counting

01:07:08 ◼   ► too

01:07:09 ◼   ► it does

01:07:09 ◼   ► do step

01:07:10 ◼   ► counting

01:07:10 ◼   ► the Reddit

01:07:11 ◼   ► reviews say

01:07:11 ◼   ► the step

01:07:12 ◼   ► counting

01:07:12 ◼   ► can be

01:07:12 ◼   ► wildly

01:07:13 ◼   ► inaccurate

01:07:13 ◼   ► who knows

01:07:14 ◼   ► but it

01:07:15 ◼   ► syncs with

01:07:15 ◼   ► Apple Health

01:07:16 ◼   ► which is

01:07:17 ◼   ► more than

01:07:17 ◼   ► the Fitbit Air

01:07:18 ◼   ► does

01:07:18 ◼   ► so that's

01:07:19 ◼   ► cool

01:07:19 ◼   ► I have

01:07:21 ◼   ► ordered

01:07:22 ◼   ► one of

01:07:22 ◼   ► these

01:07:23 ◼   ► boards

01:07:23 ◼   ► and a

01:07:25 ◼   ► white

01:07:26 ◼   ► version

01:07:26 ◼   ► of the

01:07:27 ◼   ► F91W

01:07:28 ◼   ► and

01:07:29 ◼   ► there's a

01:07:30 ◼   ► third

01:07:31 ◼   ► component

01:07:31 ◼   ► to this

01:07:32 ◼   ► that's a

01:07:32 ◼   ► light

01:07:32 ◼   ► spreader

01:07:33 ◼   ► apparently

01:07:34 ◼   ► his

01:07:34 ◼   ► board

01:07:35 ◼   ► it makes

01:07:36 ◼   ► the screen

01:07:36 ◼   ► kind of

01:07:37 ◼   ► unevenly

01:07:37 ◼   ► lit

01:07:38 ◼   ► and you can

01:07:38 ◼   ► put a

01:07:38 ◼   ► light

01:07:38 ◼   ► spreader

01:07:39 ◼   ► in there

01:07:39 ◼   ► that makes

01:07:39 ◼   ► it more

01:07:39 ◼   ► evenly

01:07:39 ◼   ► lit

01:07:40 ◼   ► so I'm

01:07:40 ◼   ► going to

01:07:40 ◼   ► build

01:07:40 ◼   ► one of

01:07:41 ◼   ► these

01:07:41 ◼   ► the parts

01:07:43 ◼   ► are going

01:07:43 ◼   ► to hear

01:07:43 ◼   ► later

01:07:43 ◼   ► this

01:07:44 ◼   ► month

01:07:44 ◼   ► he

01:07:45 ◼   ► makes

01:07:46 ◼   ► these

01:07:46 ◼   ► and he

01:07:47 ◼   ► just

01:07:47 ◼   ► ships

01:07:47 ◼   ► out

01:07:47 ◼   ► whatever

01:07:47 ◼   ► is

01:07:48 ◼   ► done

01:07:48 ◼   ► on

01:07:48 ◼   ► Fridays

01:07:49 ◼   ► and the

01:07:49 ◼   ► email

01:07:50 ◼   ► you get

01:07:50 ◼   ► is like

01:07:50 ◼   ► it'll

01:07:50 ◼   ► come out

01:07:51 ◼   ► on a

01:07:51 ◼   ► Friday

01:07:51 ◼   ► I'll let

01:07:52 ◼   ► you know

01:07:52 ◼   ► when it

01:07:52 ◼   ► ships

01:07:53 ◼   ► I love

01:07:53 ◼   ► this

01:07:54 ◼   ► I love

01:07:55 ◼   ► that someone

01:07:56 ◼   ► just did

01:07:56 ◼   ► this

01:07:57 ◼   ► and is

01:07:57 ◼   ► making a run

01:07:58 ◼   ► at it

01:07:58 ◼   ► as a

01:07:58 ◼   ► business

01:07:59 ◼   ► super cool

01:08:01 ◼   ► very excited

01:08:02 ◼   ► to try

01:08:02 ◼   ► this

01:08:02 ◼   ► and so

01:08:03 ◼   ► I'm going to be

01:08:05 ◼   ► fiddling with this

01:08:05 ◼   ► at some point

01:08:06 ◼   ► later this

01:08:06 ◼   ► summer

01:08:06 ◼   ► and I'm going to

01:08:07 ◼   ► write it up

01:08:08 ◼   ► on 512

01:08:08 ◼   ► because I think

01:08:09 ◼   ► it's really

01:08:10 ◼   ► interesting

01:08:10 ◼   ► you can also

01:08:11 ◼   ► just buy a

01:08:12 ◼   ► pre-made watch

01:08:13 ◼   ► from them

01:08:14 ◼   ► that they've

01:08:15 ◼   ► done this to

01:08:16 ◼   ► but I'm going to

01:08:16 ◼   ► take a watch

01:08:16 ◼   ► apart

01:08:17 ◼   ► it's not

01:08:17 ◼   ► hard

01:08:17 ◼   ► I think

01:08:18 ◼   ► it's more

01:08:18 ◼   ► fun to

01:08:19 ◼   ► do

01:08:19 ◼   ► and if

01:08:20 ◼   ► you break

01:08:20 ◼   ► a $19

01:08:21 ◼   ► watch

01:08:21 ◼   ► I mean the

01:08:22 ◼   ► board's I think

01:08:22 ◼   ► $100

01:08:22 ◼   ► but you really

01:08:24 ◼   ► probably can't

01:08:25 ◼   ► break the board

01:08:25 ◼   ► unless you're

01:08:26 ◼   ► really careless

01:08:26 ◼   ► I mean you can

01:08:27 ◼   ► but you'd have

01:08:29 ◼   ► to try

01:08:29 ◼   ► but if you're

01:08:30 ◼   ► if you're not

01:08:30 ◼   ► there's no

01:08:31 ◼   ► soldering

01:08:32 ◼   ► it's all just

01:08:32 ◼   ► like tiny

01:08:32 ◼   ► screws

01:08:33 ◼   ► it seems

01:08:33 ◼   ► like

01:08:34 ◼   ► so

01:08:35 ◼   ► yes

01:08:36 ◼   ► I'm going to

01:08:36 ◼   ► try

01:08:37 ◼   ► I'm going to

01:08:37 ◼   ► try this out

01:08:37 ◼   ► and I will

01:08:38 ◼   ► report back

01:08:38 ◼   ► because I think

01:08:39 ◼   ► it's I think

01:08:39 ◼   ► it's fascinating

01:08:40 ◼   ► the board is

01:08:41 ◼   ► $55

01:08:42 ◼   ► the fully

01:08:43 ◼   ► assembled

01:08:44 ◼   ► one is

01:08:45 ◼   ► $99

01:08:45 ◼   ► which is

01:08:47 ◼   ► not that much

01:08:47 ◼   ► of a premium

01:08:48 ◼   ► over buying

01:08:49 ◼   ► the watch

01:08:49 ◼   ► and buying

01:08:50 ◼   ► the part

01:08:50 ◼   ► yourself

01:08:51 ◼   ► and it is

01:08:52 ◼   ► NFC

01:08:53 ◼   ► if you have

01:08:54 ◼   ► the resin

01:08:54 ◼   ► watch you can

01:08:55 ◼   ► do NFC

01:08:55 ◼   ► the metal

01:08:56 ◼   ► version

01:08:56 ◼   ► the NFC

01:08:56 ◼   ► doesn't work

01:08:57 ◼   ► through the

01:08:58 ◼   ► metal case

01:08:58 ◼   ► but the

01:08:59 ◼   ► resin

01:08:59 ◼   ► which is

01:09:00 ◼   ► what I

01:09:00 ◼   ► ordered

01:09:00 ◼   ► the plastic

01:09:01 ◼   ► one

01:09:01 ◼   ► you have

01:09:02 ◼   ► an NFC

01:09:03 ◼   ► in it

01:09:03 ◼   ► so I'm

01:09:03 ◼   ► also going

01:09:04 ◼   ► to see

01:09:04 ◼   ► what I

01:09:04 ◼   ► could do

01:09:05 ◼   ► with that

01:09:05 ◼   ► that could

01:09:05 ◼   ► be really

01:09:06 ◼   ► cool

01:09:06 ◼   ► I have

01:09:08 ◼   ► a collection

01:09:10 ◼   ► of watches

01:09:10 ◼   ► that I love

01:09:11 ◼   ► but I don't

01:09:11 ◼   ► wear them

01:09:12 ◼   ► because I

01:09:12 ◼   ► wear an Apple

01:09:12 ◼   ► watch every

01:09:13 ◼   ► day

01:09:13 ◼   ► for various

01:09:14 ◼   ► reasons

01:09:15 ◼   ► and your

01:09:15 ◼   ► collection is

01:09:16 ◼   ► much more

01:09:16 ◼   ► adult than

01:09:18 ◼   ► mine is

01:09:18 ◼   ► I have some

01:09:21 ◼   ► stuff like

01:09:21 ◼   ► this though

01:09:22 ◼   ► I have a

01:09:22 ◼   ► G-Shock

01:09:22 ◼   ► I have a

01:09:23 ◼   ► Timex

01:09:23 ◼   ► but I also

01:09:24 ◼   ► have a couple

01:09:25 ◼   ► of pieces

01:09:25 ◼   ► from a brand

01:09:26 ◼   ► called Farrah

01:09:27 ◼   ► a British brand

01:09:27 ◼   ► that I love

01:09:28 ◼   ► I have an

01:09:29 ◼   ► Amiga that

01:09:29 ◼   ► I adore

01:09:30 ◼   ► Nomos

01:09:31 ◼   ► but I have

01:09:32 ◼   ► some really

01:09:32 ◼   ► nice stuff

01:09:33 ◼   ► and I want

01:09:33 ◼   ► to wear them

01:09:34 ◼   ► I like your

01:09:34 ◼   ► Nomos

01:09:35 ◼   ► I was there

01:09:35 ◼   ► when you

01:09:36 ◼   ► got it

01:09:36 ◼   ► yeah I got

01:09:37 ◼   ► it on my

01:09:37 ◼   ► bachelor party

01:09:38 ◼   ► because this

01:09:39 ◼   ► is what started

01:09:39 ◼   ► it for me

01:09:40 ◼   ► is I wanted

01:09:40 ◼   ► a regular

01:09:41 ◼   ► watch for my

01:09:41 ◼   ► wedding

01:09:41 ◼   ► I didn't want

01:09:42 ◼   ► an Apple

01:09:42 ◼   ► watch when I

01:09:43 ◼   ► got married

01:09:44 ◼   ► and that was

01:09:44 ◼   ► absolutely the

01:09:45 ◼   ► right decision

01:09:45 ◼   ► yes don't

01:09:46 ◼   ► don't wear an

01:09:47 ◼   ► Apple watch for

01:09:47 ◼   ► like a formal

01:09:48 ◼   ► event

01:09:48 ◼   ► I agree with

01:09:49 ◼   ► that completely

01:09:50 ◼   ► wear something

01:09:51 ◼   ► especially if you

01:09:52 ◼   ► have like a watch

01:09:52 ◼   ► tan like I do

01:09:53 ◼   ► clothes

01:09:54 ◼   ► well it depends

01:09:56 ◼   ► what kind of

01:09:56 ◼   ► photos you're

01:09:57 ◼   ► taking Mike

01:09:57 ◼   ► great point

01:09:58 ◼   ► we're not here

01:09:58 ◼   ► to judge

01:09:59 ◼   ► Chad wants to

01:10:01 ◼   ► know when you

01:10:01 ◼   ► don't wear an

01:10:02 ◼   ► Apple watch what

01:10:02 ◼   ► is your fitness

01:10:03 ◼   ► tracker

01:10:03 ◼   ► so I have been

01:10:05 ◼   ► wearing the

01:10:05 ◼   ► Fitbit Air

01:10:06 ◼   ► but and I am

01:10:08 ◼   ► going to write

01:10:09 ◼   ► about it I kind

01:10:09 ◼   ► of keep putting

01:10:10 ◼   ► it off because

01:10:10 ◼   ► like the app

01:10:11 ◼   ► has gotten

01:10:11 ◼   ► better but the

01:10:12 ◼   ► app is still

01:10:12 ◼   ► pretty bad

01:10:13 ◼   ► and until it

01:10:16 ◼   ► really syncs

01:10:17 ◼   ► with Apple

01:10:17 ◼   ► health which I

01:10:18 ◼   ► don't think it

01:10:18 ◼   ► is yet

01:10:19 ◼   ► it reads

01:10:20 ◼   ► from Apple

01:10:21 ◼   ► health but it

01:10:21 ◼   ► won't write to

01:10:22 ◼   ► Apple health I

01:10:23 ◼   ► think is where

01:10:23 ◼   ► it currently

01:10:23 ◼   ► stands

01:10:24 ◼   ► that's a bummer

01:10:27 ◼   ► because if you're

01:10:28 ◼   ► using an iPhone

01:10:29 ◼   ► like you use a

01:10:29 ◼   ► bunch of other

01:10:30 ◼   ► apps that pull

01:10:31 ◼   ► like read and

01:10:31 ◼   ► write data Apple

01:10:32 ◼   ► health then this

01:10:34 ◼   ► doesn't really

01:10:34 ◼   ► fully fit in yet

01:10:35 ◼   ► and so that's

01:10:37 ◼   ► kind of where it

01:10:37 ◼   ► stands is kind of

01:10:38 ◼   ► why I haven't

01:10:39 ◼   ► reviewed it yet

01:10:39 ◼   ► because I kind of

01:10:40 ◼   ► want to review it

01:10:41 ◼   ► in its full form

01:10:42 ◼   ► so I'm wearing

01:10:44 ◼   ► it not every day

01:10:45 ◼   ► but I've got it

01:10:46 ◼   ► still and you know

01:10:47 ◼   ► it's actually

01:10:48 ◼   ► charging in my

01:10:48 ◼   ► nightstand right

01:10:49 ◼   ► now but even

01:10:52 ◼   ► if I'm not

01:10:52 ◼   ► wearing it you

01:10:53 ◼   ► know I've got

01:10:54 ◼   ► phenomenal plus

01:10:55 ◼   ► plus running on

01:10:56 ◼   ► my iPhone all the

01:10:57 ◼   ► time so I'm tracking

01:10:57 ◼   ► my steps with my

01:10:58 ◼   ► phone even if I'm

01:10:59 ◼   ► not wearing a

01:10:59 ◼   ► smart watch and I

01:11:01 ◼   ► do also use

01:11:02 ◼   ► athletics but it

01:11:03 ◼   ► pulls information

01:11:04 ◼   ► from the Apple

01:11:04 ◼   ► watch primarily so

01:11:06 ◼   ► that is useful

01:11:08 ◼   ► when I'm wearing

01:11:09 ◼   ► my Apple watch but

01:11:10 ◼   ► I'm not doing that

01:11:10 ◼   ► every day

01:11:11 ◼   ► athletic

01:11:12 ◼   ► athletic what did

01:11:13 ◼   ► I say

01:11:14 ◼   ► athletics

01:11:15 ◼   ► math mathematics

01:11:18 ◼   ► dolly says if

01:11:20 ◼   ► you were Apple's

01:11:21 ◼   ► color czar and

01:11:22 ◼   ► had the ability to

01:11:23 ◼   ► choose a color that

01:11:24 ◼   ► would be added to

01:11:24 ◼   ► every new product for

01:11:25 ◼   ► the next year what

01:11:26 ◼   ► would you choose

01:11:26 ◼   ► cosmic orange

01:11:28 ◼   ► you just keep doing

01:11:30 ◼   ► that yeah it's

01:11:31 ◼   ► great and you

01:11:34 ◼   ► know I thought it

01:11:35 ◼   ► seems popular but I

01:11:36 ◼   ► don't know because it's

01:11:37 ◼   ► a bright color that you

01:11:38 ◼   ► just notice them and

01:11:39 ◼   ► you're like you don't

01:11:39 ◼   ► think I want my

01:11:40 ◼   ► laptop to be this

01:11:42 ◼   ► color orange like I

01:11:44 ◼   ► would want an orange

01:11:45 ◼   ► like my answer is

01:11:46 ◼   ► green but different

01:11:48 ◼   ► shades of green you

01:11:49 ◼   ► know like lime forest

01:11:51 ◼   ► pine peppermint like

01:11:52 ◼   ► those kinds of shades

01:11:53 ◼   ► would be nice different

01:11:53 ◼   ► products get different

01:11:54 ◼   ► shades the bigger a

01:11:55 ◼   ► product is the darker

01:11:56 ◼   ► it was that's kind of

01:11:57 ◼   ► what I would like so

01:11:59 ◼   ► there you go okay

01:12:00 ◼   ► Chad says if Apple was

01:12:03 ◼   ► bought out or went

01:12:03 ◼   ► bankrupt what company

01:12:05 ◼   ► would you want to

01:12:06 ◼   ► follow or report

01:12:07 ◼   ► weekly news about

01:12:08 ◼   ► so I would take the

01:12:13 ◼   ► opportunity at that

01:12:14 ◼   ► point to go all in on

01:12:15 ◼   ► Android in its many

01:12:16 ◼   ► forms because I think

01:12:17 ◼   ► you'd have to right

01:12:18 ◼   ► well I mean from a

01:12:20 ◼   ► reporting perspective

01:12:21 ◼   ► because I'd also would

01:12:22 ◼   ► have to get a Windows

01:12:23 ◼   ► PC but I wouldn't want

01:12:25 ◼   ► to talk about that

01:12:25 ◼   ► because I would find it

01:12:26 ◼   ► annoying and it would

01:12:27 ◼   ► make me sad because I

01:12:27 ◼   ► don't enjoy using

01:12:28 ◼   ► Windows and so I would

01:12:30 ◼   ► want to focus my work

01:12:32 ◼   ► like like podcasting

01:12:34 ◼   ► work on it on what's

01:12:35 ◼   ► going on in Android

01:12:36 ◼   ► more than I would want

01:12:37 ◼   ► to focus on what's

01:12:37 ◼   ► going on in Windows

01:12:39 ◼   ► you know so there

01:12:41 ◼   ► you go yeah I would

01:12:43 ◼   ► I would start a show

01:12:44 ◼   ► just every day it'd

01:12:46 ◼   ► be a daily show I

01:12:47 ◼   ► would just lobby for

01:12:48 ◼   ► WebOS to come back to

01:12:49 ◼   ► a smartphone oh okay

01:12:50 ◼   ► and then and then I

01:12:55 ◼   ► agree with you Windows

01:12:56 ◼   ► makes me sad so maybe

01:12:57 ◼   ► I would do some Linux

01:12:58 ◼   ► stuff because that

01:13:00 ◼   ► that community is super

01:13:02 ◼   ► healthy and not not

01:13:03 ◼   ► angry with each other

01:13:03 ◼   ► all the time sure

01:13:06 ◼   ► so Matt wants to know

01:13:08 ◼   ► what HomeKit devices do

01:13:09 ◼   ► you wish existed which

01:13:11 ◼   ► should Apple make so I'll

01:13:14 ◼   ► start and say I want a

01:13:15 ◼   ► fully HomeKit whole home

01:13:16 ◼   ► security system okay

01:13:17 ◼   ► alarms cameras sensors like

01:13:20 ◼   ► you can get pieces of

01:13:21 ◼   ► this stuff and like string

01:13:22 ◼   ► them together but I want

01:13:24 ◼   ► one cohesive system where

01:13:26 ◼   ► all of these things talk

01:13:27 ◼   ► to each other all in the

01:13:28 ◼   ► home app and they all

01:13:29 ◼   ► they're nice like I use a

01:13:32 ◼   ► product called Abode yeah

01:13:33 ◼   ► which is a HomeKit

01:13:34 ◼   ► alarm system but their

01:13:36 ◼   ► cameras aren't HomeKit

01:13:36 ◼   ► okay so there you go

01:13:41 ◼   ► that's what I want I

01:13:43 ◼   ► don't know if I've got

01:13:43 ◼   ► anything that like I

01:13:44 ◼   ► really want that's just

01:13:48 ◼   ► HomeKit okay so on that

01:13:50 ◼   ► note then Matt also asks

01:13:52 ◼   ► Stephen how's Home

01:13:54 ◼   ► Assistant going and how

01:13:55 ◼   ► dare you do this to me

01:13:56 ◼   ► yeah I got I got Matt

01:13:57 ◼   ► this is our our discord

01:13:58 ◼   ► moderator Matt I got him

01:13:59 ◼   ► into a Home Assistant

01:14:01 ◼   ► ah okay I thought that

01:14:03 ◼   ► maybe Matt was saying this

01:14:04 ◼   ► was a betrayal but no you

01:14:06 ◼   ► just dragged him down I

01:14:07 ◼   ► dragged him down

01:14:07 ◼   ► okay

01:14:08 ◼   ► it's very good I really so

01:14:12 ◼   ► what I've we talked about

01:14:13 ◼   ► this at some point but I

01:14:15 ◼   ► have everything in Home

01:14:16 ◼   ► Assistant and there are a

01:14:19 ◼   ► couple things that I

01:14:19 ◼   ► expose back to HomeKit

01:14:21 ◼   ► that aren't HomeKit

01:14:23 ◼   ► compatible what's nice

01:14:25 ◼   ► about this because that

01:14:27 ◼   ► they can run together my

01:14:29 ◼   ► family including my kids

01:14:31 ◼   ► just use because they're

01:14:33 ◼   ► like guests so they don't

01:14:33 ◼   ► have access to everything

01:14:34 ◼   ► in a smart home but some

01:14:35 ◼   ► things they just keep using

01:14:38 ◼   ► the home app they just

01:14:39 ◼   ► keep using the HomePod

01:14:40 ◼   ► minis they have no idea

01:14:42 ◼   ► that Home Assistant is even

01:14:44 ◼   ► running right that it's

01:14:46 ◼   ► actually pulling the strings

01:14:47 ◼   ► in the background what's

01:14:50 ◼   ► really nice about Home

01:14:51 ◼   ► Assistant in particular

01:14:51 ◼   ► and what drove me to it to

01:14:53 ◼   ► explore it the for the

01:14:55 ◼   ► first time was the

01:14:56 ◼   ► automations are very very

01:14:59 ◼   ► flexible and very powerful

01:15:01 ◼   ► much more than what you

01:15:02 ◼   ► get in the home app and I

01:15:03 ◼   ► know there's like I think

01:15:05 ◼   ► it's home plus there's a

01:15:07 ◼   ► couple of iOS apps that

01:15:09 ◼   ► expose more of like the

01:15:10 ◼   ► HomeKit ecosystem than the

01:15:11 ◼   ► home app does that can do

01:15:13 ◼   ► some of this stuff but Home

01:15:14 ◼   ► Assistant is just next level

01:15:15 ◼   ► and it's great because I can

01:15:17 ◼   ► bring things I can I can

01:15:20 ◼   ► bring everything together

01:15:21 ◼   ► even if it doesn't support

01:15:23 ◼   ► HomeKit so for instance I

01:15:24 ◼   ► use Yolink water sensors

01:15:26 ◼   ► spoken with that in the

01:15:27 ◼   ► past the range is

01:15:29 ◼   ► incredible that actually why

01:15:30 ◼   ► I use them because I've got

01:15:32 ◼   ► some that are outside the

01:15:33 ◼   ► house but I have some in my

01:15:35 ◼   ► attic my attic is like

01:15:36 ◼   ► completely lined and foil

01:15:38 ◼   ► back insulation and it's

01:15:41 ◼   ► Faraday cage in there like

01:15:42 ◼   ► you shut the door you don't

01:15:42 ◼   ► have any cell service like it

01:15:43 ◼   ► goes away and Yolink was

01:15:46 ◼   ► the only thing that could

01:15:47 ◼   ► like get through that

01:15:48 ◼   ► signal wise but Yolink the

01:15:50 ◼   ► app is really really bad and

01:15:52 ◼   ► it's not HomeKit

01:15:53 ◼   ► compatible and so I have all

01:15:55 ◼   ► that piped into Home

01:15:55 ◼   ► Assistant and if one of them

01:15:56 ◼   ► goes off when my water

01:15:58 ◼   ► sensors goes off then I get

01:16:00 ◼   ► an alert via Home Assistant

01:16:02 ◼   ► and I basically just pretend

01:16:04 ◼   ► that Yolink app doesn't

01:16:05 ◼   ► exist other than registering

01:16:06 ◼   ► new new devices so it's going

01:16:09 ◼   ► really well it is nerdy it is

01:16:11 ◼   ► very you can be very fiddly but

01:16:14 ◼   ► the community is great there's

01:16:15 ◼   ► lots of good resources out

01:16:16 ◼   ► there they all seem like

01:16:17 ◼   ► pretty cool folks and it's

01:16:19 ◼   ► been it's been really nice to

01:16:21 ◼   ► have a cohesive system that I

01:16:23 ◼   ► use but my family didn't have

01:16:25 ◼   ► to learn a new thing until it

01:16:27 ◼   ► breaks that's fine it's not

01:16:29 ◼   ► home bridge come on Nicholas

01:16:31 ◼   ► wants to know will Stephen's

01:16:33 ◼   ► Mac collection be used in any

01:16:34 ◼   ► way to support the research for

01:16:36 ◼   ► designed in California I hope

01:16:38 ◼   ► so I hope so specifically though

01:16:42 ◼   ► for me because I feel like your

01:16:45 ◼   ► your digital stuff will be more

01:16:47 ◼   ► used yes I mailed a drive to

01:16:49 ◼   ► Jason Snell with a bunch of

01:16:51 ◼   ► PDFs on it but I when it comes

01:16:53 ◼   ► to the to the to the devices of

01:16:57 ◼   ► it all I would like you to help

01:17:00 ◼   ► me down the line to decide on

01:17:03 ◼   ► what vintage Macs I should acquire

01:17:04 ◼   ► yeah because I feel like I need

01:17:09 ◼   ► to use more of classic Mac yeah

01:17:14 ◼   ► than I have in my adult life to

01:17:18 ◼   ► to understand it and you know I'm

01:17:21 ◼   ► going to do some like some

01:17:22 ◼   ► emulation stuff because like there

01:17:24 ◼   ► are things that I want to try that

01:17:25 ◼   ► are too difficult like I want to

01:17:27 ◼   ► understand a little bit of what

01:17:29 ◼   ► next step was like I'm not going to

01:17:31 ◼   ► try and acquire next machine I've

01:17:34 ◼   ► just looked by the way my word yes

01:17:37 ◼   ► mine I paid I paid shipping for my

01:17:39 ◼   ► next cube and my slabs are given to

01:17:41 ◼   ► me but the nice thing is about that

01:17:44 ◼   ► is you don't need an attic full of

01:17:47 ◼   ► hardware to experience the software

01:17:49 ◼   ► anymore no through I mean you have

01:17:52 ◼   ► like emulation but you also have like

01:17:54 ◼   ► web-based tools where you can just you

01:17:57 ◼   ► know you can just like go to whatever

01:17:59 ◼   ► that website is whose name I'm

01:18:01 ◼   ► blanking and infinite Mac and just

01:18:03 ◼   ► like boot up a system and poke

01:18:05 ◼   ► around so which I want to do but

01:18:08 ◼   ► there's some stuff like I do want to

01:18:10 ◼   ► run on some hardware like things are

01:18:12 ◼   ► easier to get and also like I want to

01:18:15 ◼   ► have a Mac or two behind me for a

01:18:17 ◼   ► video for sure right yeah we'll get

01:18:20 ◼   ► you stuff at some point I will want

01:18:23 ◼   ► your guidance as to what's you know

01:18:25 ◼   ► because I've already started poking

01:18:26 ◼   ► around I've seen some stuff I'm

01:18:27 ◼   ► interested in but I don't know if the

01:18:28 ◼   ► prices are good you know what I

01:18:29 ◼   ► mean none of them are it's I know

01:18:32 ◼   ► but like I don't know if the prices

01:18:33 ◼   ► are good for what the prices are

01:18:35 ◼   ► and Nathan says if someone could code

01:18:40 ◼   ► an app for a weird problem or specific

01:18:43 ◼   ► task that you need to do that

01:18:45 ◼   ► perfectly met your needs what would it

01:18:48 ◼   ► be

01:18:48 ◼   ► um it's kind of a strange question in

01:18:52 ◼   ► the age of vibe coding right because

01:18:53 ◼   ► you can kind of do it yourself to a

01:18:54 ◼   ► degree yes this is the thing so like

01:18:57 ◼   ► I think this person referenced I meant

01:19:01 ◼   ► to add this in but they referenced the

01:19:03 ◼   ► six or seven tabs app right that like

01:19:07 ◼   ► Federico wanted an app for six or seven

01:19:09 ◼   ► tabs and then the listener built that

01:19:10 ◼   ► app where I feel like now Federico

01:19:14 ◼   ► would just make his own six or seven

01:19:15 ◼   ► tab app right because that's kind of

01:19:18 ◼   ► the world that we're in like if you have

01:19:20 ◼   ► something incredibly specific you just

01:19:23 ◼   ► use AI tools to build it for you what I

01:19:26 ◼   ► think

01:19:27 ◼   ► though what I am starting to think of

01:19:31 ◼   ► is like what is the

01:19:32 ◼   ► path for developers now I think it's

01:19:37 ◼   ► can you show me a better way to do

01:19:40 ◼   ► something that I hadn't thought of

01:19:42 ◼   ► rather than can you meet a very

01:19:46 ◼   ► specific niche which I think was more

01:19:48 ◼   ► of what people were attacking before

01:19:50 ◼   ► where now I think it's like you have to

01:19:52 ◼   ► have a product to that

01:19:54 ◼   ► approaches a problem in a in an

01:19:58 ◼   ► interesting way some you know but you

01:20:02 ◼   ► don't have to take my advice for it but

01:20:03 ◼   ► like I I have a specific task that I

01:20:06 ◼   ► need my needs met on and so I have

01:20:10 ◼   ► built something for me so I made a tool

01:20:13 ◼   ► that what I can do is a transcriber

01:20:15 ◼   ► podcast and then from a text

01:20:19 ◼   ► transcription select the text that I

01:20:22 ◼   ► want and export a audio clip or I can

01:20:27 ◼   ► do this for YouTube videos and get an

01:20:29 ◼   ► audio clip and a video clip okay so this

01:20:32 ◼   ► is for designing California stuff and so

01:20:34 ◼   ► like what this came from was there is a

01:20:36 ◼   ► upcoming episode where I want to use a

01:20:39 ◼   ► clip right and so I just opened audio

01:20:44 ◼   ► hijack and I recorded the audio and

01:20:46 ◼   ► Jason said I need a video clip because

01:20:49 ◼   ► if you're gonna pull a clip from

01:20:52 ◼   ► YouTube it has to somehow be in the

01:20:54 ◼   ► video version yeah so I was like huh

01:20:56 ◼   ► that feels like an annoying thing to do

01:20:59 ◼   ► so I was like hang on a minute hang on

01:21:01 ◼   ► a minute I can I can build a tool that

01:21:03 ◼   ► can do it for me so so like it's most

01:21:06 ◼   ► this is most efficient for YouTube so

01:21:08 ◼   ► like I can throw a YouTube video in it

01:21:09 ◼   ► grabs the YouTube video transcribes it

01:21:12 ◼   ► using whisper I then can just select the

01:21:14 ◼   ► text that I want press this clip button

01:21:16 ◼   ► and it would give me a audio like an

01:21:18 ◼   ► mp3 and a video clip that I can then send

01:21:22 ◼   ► to Jamie so she can put it in the video

01:21:24 ◼   ► so hi Jamie there you go hi Jamie I don't

01:21:28 ◼   ► think she listens to the show she doesn't

01:21:29 ◼   ► listen to upgrade she has to so there you

01:21:32 ◼   ► go that that's the kind of stuff where it's

01:21:34 ◼   ► like no one's gonna build that tool there's

01:21:36 ◼   ► there's no market for that tool the

01:21:37 ◼   ► markets me and maybe like seven other

01:21:39 ◼   ► people but I can build that tool for

01:21:41 ◼   ► myself so yeah yeah I built a tool for

01:21:46 ◼   ► myself because I switched to a static site

01:21:49 ◼   ► generator instead of WordPress and I was

01:21:52 ◼   ► using Mars edit and I hooked my site up to

01:21:56 ◼   ► IA writer which is a fantastic app but I was

01:21:58 ◼   ► missing like an editor like a blog editor

01:22:01 ◼   ► and so I've just like kind of been working

01:22:05 ◼   ► on one cloud code and it's just like a

01:22:09 ◼   ► straight-up blog app now where I can upload

01:22:11 ◼   ► images to my cloud flare bucket so there

01:22:13 ◼   ► are no blog apps that work for the type of

01:22:17 ◼   ► site that you have now like the stack well

01:22:18 ◼   ► the site is just a bunch of markdown files

01:22:21 ◼   ► so like markdown editors work but I did not

01:22:25 ◼   ► find anything that looked good that could

01:22:27 ◼   ► really replace it there's some web apps

01:22:30 ◼   ► that do it but that's silly like I want

01:22:32 ◼   ► it I want a Mac app and so it's got a

01:22:36 ◼   ► markdown editor it knows about all the

01:22:37 ◼   ► posts it I can if I have a clipboard if I'm

01:22:43 ◼   ► on my clipboard like an old post I can

01:22:45 ◼   ► open that URL in the app and it will open

01:22:48 ◼   ► the markdown I'll open that the editor to

01:22:49 ◼   ► that it builds all the front matters like

01:22:52 ◼   ► all the title and the categories and

01:22:54 ◼   ► everything and it can push to the github

01:22:57 ◼   ► repo so it can publish any changes that I

01:23:00 ◼   ► make to the site it's been it's been

01:23:03 ◼   ► over the course of a month or whatever

01:23:05 ◼   ► it's like slow like the image uploading I

01:23:07 ◼   ► just did over the weekend like I was like

01:23:09 ◼   ► it's annoying that I have to go to the

01:23:10 ◼   ► website to do this and so it's like hey

01:23:12 ◼   ► can we can we do this and so you know it's

01:23:16 ◼   ► not a product like I still feel weird about

01:23:19 ◼   ► that like we're talking about the action

01:23:22 ◼   ► retro thing earlier it's a it's like open

01:23:24 ◼   ► source free thing on github that's

01:23:27 ◼   ► different than like a this is an app that

01:23:31 ◼   ► I'm putting in the app store for people

01:23:32 ◼   ► to subscribe to or buy that is vibe and I

01:23:35 ◼   ► don't know how to fix it I don't I don't

01:23:38 ◼   ► like that so like I would never release what

01:23:41 ◼   ► I'm calling 512 writer because it's just

01:23:42 ◼   ► for me but it's um it's right the name you

01:23:47 ◼   ► know well anyway if somebody has 512

01:23:49 ◼   ► something else maybe they can they can

01:23:52 ◼   ► use it sure you know I feel like 512

01:23:55 ◼   ► automobiles and you're honest and you're on

01:23:57 ◼   ► hugo you know yeah hit me up so uh so yeah I

01:24:02 ◼   ► think I think those sorts of things are

01:24:05 ◼   ► really interesting and you can you can

01:24:07 ◼   ► scratch your own itch but it's not a

01:24:09 ◼   ► product in my mind that I would ever put

01:24:13 ◼   ► out there I wouldn't even open source this

01:24:16 ◼   ► one because like in some ways it's like

01:24:18 ◼   ► hardwired to 512 pixels like I would need

01:24:21 ◼   ► to make settings for things that otherwise

01:24:23 ◼   ► are basically just like baked into the

01:24:25 ◼   ► application but I think this is the

01:24:28 ◼   ► question that Nathan's getting at the

01:24:29 ◼   ► very a weird problem or a specific

01:24:33 ◼   ► task that you need to perfectly meet your

01:24:35 ◼   ► needs I mean I just don't know why

01:24:37 ◼   ► anyone would now just sit and hope that

01:24:39 ◼   ► someone would make that for them yeah

01:24:40 ◼   ► right it just doesn't it just doesn't

01:24:43 ◼   ► feel like something that you would do

01:24:44 ◼   ► now like you would just be like oh man

01:24:46 ◼   ► if only for sure you just just go to

01:24:49 ◼   ► yourself for sure okay one last

01:24:55 ◼   ► question the most important question

01:24:57 ◼   ► Aaron asks how should we let Federico

01:25:00 ◼   ► know that we missed him I feel like

01:25:02 ◼   ► you're the person who likes to do this

01:25:04 ◼   ► more than anyone so why don't you I

01:25:06 ◼   ► would say whatever social media app of

01:25:08 ◼   ► your choice or email send Federico your

01:25:11 ◼   ► third most emo third most used emoji

01:25:14 ◼   ► there you go the best one of these is I

01:25:19 ◼   ► told people wants to tell you how what

01:25:21 ◼   ► they like on their hot dogs I will

01:25:23 ◼   ► never achieve that greatness again

01:25:24 ◼   ► yeah there's a lot of the catch up in my

01:25:27 ◼   ► replies for a week that's the wrong

01:25:29 ◼   ► thing mustard and relish okay I'm just

01:25:32 ◼   ► telling you what was there okay okay

01:25:34 ◼   ► well I think that does it for this week

01:25:38 ◼   ► if you want to find links to the stuff

01:25:40 ◼   ► we spoke about those podcasts a bunch of

01:25:43 ◼   ► other stuff it's in the show notes at

01:25:45 ◼   ► relay.fm slash connected slash 611 you

01:25:49 ◼   ► also find them in your podcast app of

01:25:52 ◼   ► choice just just right there there's also

01:25:54 ◼   ► links to become a member and leave us

01:25:58 ◼   ► feedback or follow up we'd love to hear

01:26:00 ◼   ► from you if you want more of Mike you can

01:26:03 ◼   ► find him at theenthusiast.net and a

01:26:05 ◼   ► bunch of other shows across relay

01:26:07 ◼   ► Federico will be back next week I think

01:26:09 ◼   ► you can find him at macstories.net and

01:26:13 ◼   ► you can find my writing at 512pixels.net

01:26:16 ◼   ► we're big .net boys around here

01:26:17 ◼   ► they're just available they are they're

01:26:21 ◼   ► available URLs I really wanted the

01:26:23 ◼   ► enthusiast.com but obviously I couldn't

01:26:25 ◼   ► get that yeah I think I own 512pixels.com

01:26:29 ◼   ► but the .net was like cool in our world

01:26:32 ◼   ► so

01:26:32 ◼   ► applehardwarecalendar.com just

01:26:35 ◼   ► renewed just so you know

01:26:36 ◼   ► oh will you point it to my new thing

01:26:39 ◼   ► I'll point it to your I've just realized

01:26:40 ◼   ► now yeah I'll point it at your new thing

01:26:43 ◼   ► thank you

01:26:43 ◼   ► I don't even know where it goes it goes

01:26:44 ◼   ► to the 2024

01:26:45 ◼   ► ooh Kickstarter yeah send that over to

01:26:48 ◼   ► to the store

01:26:50 ◼   ► I will log in to Hover right now and do it

01:26:52 ◼   ► thank you

01:26:53 ◼   ► thank you

01:26:54 ◼   ► I'd like to thank our sponsor for this

01:26:55 ◼   ► episode Sentry

01:26:56 ◼   ► I'd like to thank you for listening

01:26:57 ◼   ► and until next time

01:26:59 ◼   ► say goodbye

01:26:59 ◼   ► bye bye

01:27:01 ◼   ► bye y'all
