Under the Radar

332: Relaunching Developing Perspective

00:00:00 ◼   ► Hello.

00:00:01 ◼   ► Uh this is not Under the Radar, a show about independent Iowa SAP development,

00:00:06 ◼   ► but I am still David Smith.

00:00:08 ◼   ► Um this is just a quick little promo that I wanted to record to

00:00:11 ◼   ► let you know that if you are someone who used to listen to Under

00:00:14 ◼   ► the Radar and misses uh my thoughts and perspectives on what independent app development

00:00:19 ◼   ► is like, I am bringing back a podcast that I used to do before

00:00:22 ◼   ► Under the Radar, which is called Developing Perspective, which was a show I did

00:00:26 ◼   ► from twenty eleven to twenty fifteen, um, that sort of led into Under the

00:00:31 ◼   ► Radar, where Marco and I joined teams to talk about our own ex you

00:00:35 ◼   ► know, combined experiences.

00:00:37 ◼   ► Um, and I wanted to have a new place to talk about what's going

00:00:41 ◼   ► on in app development because my goodness is a lot happening.

00:00:45 ◼   ► You know, when last November Marco and I decided to wind down under the

00:00:50 ◼   ► radar after its ten year run, uh we had felt kind of that app

00:00:53 ◼   ► de it was a good natural point that app development had kind of reached

00:00:57 ◼   ► a a a sem a somewhat stable place in terms of its development.

00:01:02 ◼   ► Um, that while there was always things happening and changing, like just sort of

00:01:05 ◼   ► felt like a natural good time.

00:01:06 ◼   ► And then it turned out that was like the best worst possible time to

00:01:10 ◼   ► end a podcast about independent app development because the next couple months everything went

00:01:15 ◼   ► wild.

00:01:15 ◼   ► Everything went you know sort of different.

00:01:17 ◼   ► Agentic coding took off in a way that I don't think anyone could have

00:01:20 ◼   ► expected to have as transformative an impact as it has.

00:01:23 ◼   ► And as a result, in some ways, I was glad that I didn't have

00:01:26 ◼   ► to every couple weeks decide what my feelings were, how what I was thinking

00:01:31 ◼   ► about, because they've been complicated, they've been conflicted they've been here, there and everywhere,

00:01:37 ◼   ► and so that would have been really tricky.

00:01:39 ◼   ► But in some ways I also now feel like things have settled into a

00:01:42 ◼   ► place that I I miss having a voice.

00:01:44 ◼   ► I miss talking about my work and my experiences and sharing my learnings and

00:01:49 ◼   ► you know my successes and my failures and a place to do that.

00:01:53 ◼   ► And I've really appreciated over this last year having a access the accidental tech

00:01:57 ◼   ► podcast where I could listen to Marco share his experiences and his you know

00:02:01 ◼   ► what what has been going on with him?

00:02:02 ◼   ► Um, but I wanted to bring back uh a place for myself.

00:02:05 ◼   ► And so that's bringing back Developing Perspective.

00:02:08 ◼   ► It's a solo show, just me talking about my experiences.

00:02:11 ◼   ► Um it's used in this old format, you know, fifteen years ago, it was

00:02:15 ◼   ► in the structure of a show that was never longer than fifteen minutes.

00:02:20 ◼   ► This new format is probably going to be sort of in that ballpark, but

00:02:23 ◼   ► I'm not trying to hold myself to that specifically um in the new format

00:02:28 ◼   ► just because I want to have a bit of flexibility.

00:02:30 ◼   ► I have some ideas for things that could be fun and interesting to do

00:02:33 ◼   ► interviews or live streams or other kind of structures and formats that may not

00:02:37 ◼   ► fit into a short format, but mostly it's gonna be a re you know,

00:02:41 ◼   ► sort of a once a week, once every a couple weeks show where I

00:02:45 ◼   ► talk about what's going on, what's interesting, um and what I'm learning.

00:02:48 ◼   ► And hopefully that will be of interest to you if you used to listen

00:02:51 ◼   ► to under the radar.

00:02:52 ◼   ► Um and I just wanted to mention that here in case uh you hadn't

00:02:55 ◼   ► heard that I was doing this because yeah, it's it's just a f it's

00:02:58 ◼   ► been a fascinating year.

00:03:00 ◼   ► It's been a fascinating time to be an app developer, and I suspect that

00:03:03 ◼   ► fascination uh will continue.

00:03:05 ◼   ► There'll be a lot to talk about, and I look forward to talking about

00:03:08 ◼   ► it on developing perspective.

00:03:10 ◼   ► There'll be a link in the show notes or developingperspective.com.

00:03:13 ◼   ► Thanks.
