00:00:11   welcome back everybody to the [TS]

00:00:13   uncomfortable i am your host jason's [TS]

00:00:15   deli [TS]

00:00:15   we're here with our what has become an [TS]

00:00:18   annual tradition where we wrap up two [TS]

00:00:19   things at once the season of Game of [TS]

00:00:21   Thrones and we talk about other shows [TS]

00:00:24   that we watched if we can remember them [TS]

00:00:25   this season that's it so what the way [TS]

00:00:28   with this is gonna work we're going to [TS]

00:00:29   do some stuff about other shows at a [TS]

00:00:32   high level that we that we liked maybe [TS]

00:00:34   just like don't know that we can [TS]

00:00:35   remember and then we will shift gears [TS]

00:00:37   and blow the spoiler horn and talk about [TS]

00:00:38   the season of Game of Thrones joining me [TS]

00:00:40   to talk about TV from this past season [TS]

00:00:43   of fine panel of people David lawyers [TS]

00:00:46   out there hello David [TS]

00:00:47   hey hey um I'm looking forward to [TS]

00:00:49   talking about Malini sure sure [TS]

00:00:52   10 more and also that there hello winter [TS]

00:00:55   was with is going on the tanker winter [TS]

00:00:58   is no longer coming [TS]

00:00:59   it's always good with your left yeah so [TS]

00:01:01   many years ago we got tired of your best [TS]

00:01:03   couple [TS]

00:01:04   Erica and sign hello hello no it'sit's [TS]

00:01:07   spring it's the spring of my [TS]

00:01:08   discontinued almost summer and John [TS]

00:01:11   siracusa is out there hi john i'm sad [TS]

00:01:13   not to be doing this in person i know [TS]

00:01:15   you'll be old ways are best [TS]

00:01:17   yeah I know but they moved to Game of [TS]

00:01:18   Thrones still later so we can't do it in [TS]

00:01:20   person anymore and joining us as a [TS]

00:01:23   special guest one of the people with [TS]

00:01:25   money actually he's not here who helped [TS]

00:01:27   me recap episode by episode the game of [TS]

00:01:32   thrones season on the TV podcast part of [TS]

00:01:34   the grating comfortable network it's [TS]

00:01:36   brian hamilton hi Brian very happy to be [TS]

00:01:38   here Jason [TS]

00:01:39   okay before we get to Game of Thrones [TS]

00:01:40   let's talk about some other shows that [TS]

00:01:42   we saw the season just I mean this is [TS]

00:01:43   really just an excuse to bring up some [TS]

00:01:45   shows that you watched that you liked or [TS]

00:01:47   that you didn't like just to get him out [TS]

00:01:49   there because we feel like this is as [TS]

00:01:51   good a time as any to kind of bookmark [TS]

00:01:52   be you know close the books on the TV [TS]

00:01:56   that we've been watching the last year [TS]

00:01:57   Dan more when we start with you with [TS]

00:02:00   their shows that you wanna you wanna [TS]

00:02:02   honor here or dishonor either way [TS]

00:02:05   yeah yeah either I there are there are [TS]

00:02:07   many shows that water and we spent we [TS]

00:02:09   spent a long podcast talking about many [TS]

00:02:11   of the superheroes lyrics that we we [TS]

00:02:14   people show that i won't go into more [TS]

00:02:16   detail on that i will say a couple of [TS]

00:02:18   shows that i really enjoyed this year um [TS]

00:02:21   justified came to an end after six [TS]

00:02:23   seasons in a really i thought really [TS]

00:02:26   nice wrap up one of the best sort of [TS]

00:02:28   cohesive crime TV shows that i've seen [TS]

00:02:31   the last several years that's one [TS]

00:02:33   otherwise all-time favorites [TS]

00:02:34   she likes a great it's a great show it's [TS]

00:02:36   well-written it's funny but it's also [TS]

00:02:38   you know intense dramatic at points [TS]

00:02:41   Timothy Olyphant is fantastic hard to [TS]

00:02:44   you know give him enough credit as [TS]

00:02:46   nectar and walton goggins also fantastic [TS]

00:02:49   he's if you've seen him on the shield or [TS]

00:02:51   in his various other performances this [TS]

00:02:53   is this is truly I think one of his best [TS]

00:02:55   roles so i think that was among my [TS]

00:02:58   favorite shows this year [TS]

00:02:59   brooklyn nine-nine I had a headache [TS]

00:03:02   solid second season i really enjoyed [TS]

00:03:05   that [TS]

00:03:05   yeah I don't watch a lot of sitcoms but [TS]

00:03:08   that was one that made it to the to the [TS]

00:03:09   top there and I really really liked it [TS]

00:03:11   that is my favorite comedy on TV right [TS]

00:03:14   now is provided 9i think I wouldn't do [TS]

00:03:16   that i think i would agree with that and [TS]

00:03:18   then the other thing I was going to [TS]

00:03:20   mention which of course is now is just [TS]

00:03:22   totally flown out of how it's going to [TS]

00:03:23   mention of Star Wars rebels is a the [TS]

00:03:26   animated show which is fantastic i [TS]

00:03:28   really i just got into a clone wars last [TS]

00:03:31   year and sort of gone back and watch all [TS]

00:03:32   that on netflix and while I really came [TS]

00:03:35   to love that show I you know I and they [TS]

00:03:37   sort of cancel it before its time I was [TS]

00:03:39   like well as hold and making a new show [TS]

00:03:41   is probably gonna suck a nice are [TS]

00:03:43   watching it's really good and if you are [TS]

00:03:45   if you have watched clone wars it is it [TS]

00:03:49   is a successor to clone wars like there [TS]

00:03:50   is direct contracts out there is is [TS]

00:03:53   there Dan yes like the last seen it [TS]

00:03:55   makes it very clear that there is direct [TS]

00:03:57   community like Star Wars rebels a lot it [TS]

00:04:00   is great fun and it's about like the [TS]

00:04:03   early days of the rebellion basically [TS]

00:04:05   right before that the original Star Wars [TS]

00:04:08   movies up and and you've got some great [TS]

00:04:10   you know performances Freddie Prinze jr. [TS]

00:04:11   plays a place a Jedi [TS]

00:04:14   yeah you know and a lot of other eight [TS]

00:04:16   great characters in there too who are [TS]

00:04:18   who are just really well-drawn it's sort [TS]

00:04:20   of like a it's fun because you get the [TS]

00:04:21   like sort of band of misfits yeah [TS]

00:04:23   they're traveling together for like yeah [TS]

00:04:25   the rebellions not quite a thing yet but [TS]

00:04:27   there are lots of appearances by [TS]

00:04:28   characters from the original movies from [TS]

00:04:31   Clone Wars you know like there's [TS]

00:04:32   definitely some time [TS]

00:04:33   in there and so it feels like a really [TS]

00:04:35   it feels like a really solid part of the [TS]

00:04:37   star wars universe and I think and I and [TS]

00:04:39   all the characters are really well [TS]

00:04:41   fleshed out i think they do a nice job [TS]

00:04:42   of spending time with each of them and [TS]

00:04:44   making you actually care about what [TS]

00:04:45   happens to them so I've actually seen [TS]

00:04:47   the premiere of the second season [TS]

00:04:49   because they showed its star wars [TS]

00:04:51   celebration and its really knock your [TS]

00:04:53   socks off is all i'm going to say and [TS]

00:04:55   I'm really looking forward to the season [TS]

00:04:56   look at this guy [TS]

00:04:57   thank you thank you acknowledged yeah i [TS]

00:05:00   think that show like Clone Wars has a [TS]

00:05:02   certain sadness over it because you know [TS]

00:05:05   yep what has to happen before the [TS]

00:05:07   beginning of a new hope so all the [TS]

00:05:09   characters that you're looking hang out [TS]

00:05:10   with and enjoying at the very least [TS]

00:05:13   they're going to be defeated exiled [TS]

00:05:16   hidden or whatever [TS]

00:05:17   most likely they'll be dead if we're [TS]

00:05:19   going to go with the continuity like how [TS]

00:05:20   many Jedi were hanging around the [TS]

00:05:22   beginning of a new hope that many so is [TS]

00:05:24   a bunch of Jedi hanging out here maybe [TS]

00:05:25   don't get too attached that's kind of [TS]

00:05:27   set like you know that this rebellion is [TS]

00:05:30   not going to be triumphant because it's [TS]

00:05:33   only triumph it's barely trying to the [TS]

00:05:35   end of a new hope certain this is the [TS]

00:05:36   series are going to end so I I kind of [TS]

00:05:38   feel that melancholy watching all these [TS]

00:05:39   characters like they're they're giving [TS]

00:05:41   it their best effort there flying around [TS]

00:05:43   there being trouble for the empire but [TS]

00:05:45   in the end it's gonna need a farm boy [TS]

00:05:47   here [TS]

00:05:48   yep yep it's a good show up that's been [TS]

00:05:50   the dinner time entertainment with my [TS]

00:05:52   family like something the whole family [TS]

00:05:53   can watch I anyone anymore damn i just [TS]

00:05:57   to say that this was apparently the year [TS]

00:05:58   where all of my shows ended because in [TS]

00:06:00   addition to justified Parenthood parks [TS]

00:06:03   and recreation mad men there are at [TS]

00:06:06   least a couple others in there to work [TS]

00:06:08   and some of us the USA shows which I [TS]

00:06:10   enjoyed sadly got cancelled like covert [TS]

00:06:12   affairs which i think i mentioned last [TS]

00:06:13   year's TV podcast which I really liked [TS]

00:06:15   was really good spy drama and they [TS]

00:06:16   cancelled it so yeah my uh my list of [TS]

00:06:20   shows has been window down and two shows [TS]

00:06:21   that I Drive will say two shows that i [TS]

00:06:23   dropped after watching the first season [TS]

00:06:24   and and sort of half-heartedly enjoying [TS]

00:06:27   the first season with the black list and [TS]

00:06:28   sleepy hollow i watch the first couple [TS]

00:06:30   episodes of the season of both of them [TS]

00:06:32   was like we're not really doing anything [TS]

00:06:34   for me so I kind of gave up on those [TS]

00:06:36   which is I I haven't really miss them [TS]

00:06:40   sleepy hollow really lots lost its way [TS]

00:06:42   this year which is too bad because i [TS]

00:06:44   really like the first yeah i like the [TS]

00:06:46   first season on [TS]

00:06:47   and I didn't like how they ended it seem [TS]

00:06:49   like that kind of rippled into the [TS]

00:06:51   entire second season and I didn't care [TS]

00:06:53   for it [TS]

00:06:53   Erica what do you have for us i kinda [TS]

00:06:56   wish Scott McNulty was here because he [TS]

00:06:58   sort of my the good wife buddy [TS]

00:07:00   oh yeah the other person that I know [TS]

00:07:01   that really watches that show which I [TS]

00:07:03   have to say I was kind of disappointed [TS]

00:07:04   with this season of it I I like [TS]

00:07:06   courtroom drama and this this season was [TS]

00:07:09   a lot more political drama and I don't [TS]

00:07:11   care for that quite as much so I was a [TS]

00:07:12   little little disappointing but it looks [TS]

00:07:14   like it might go back to the courtroom [TS]

00:07:15   next year so i'm i'm not giving up until [TS]

00:07:18   next season starts [TS]

00:07:19   somebody get disbarred or something but [TS]

00:07:21   no she was running for um she's running [TS]

00:07:24   for some sort of office and then of [TS]

00:07:26   course because you know you can't have [TS]

00:07:28   you can't have that because she's not [TS]

00:07:29   she's the lawyer by the end it all does [TS]

00:07:32   not work out in her favor and she has to [TS]

00:07:34   go back into practice and and the big [TS]

00:07:36   cliffhanger was Michael J Fox coming up [TS]

00:07:38   and saying would you like to me while my [TS]

00:07:39   partner and he's like he's a horrible [TS]

00:07:42   person so that nobody nobody wants that [TS]

00:07:44   except Dewey mmm yeah so I've got the [TS]

00:07:49   good wife and castle is the only other [TS]

00:07:50   thing I've watched but i don't really [TS]

00:07:52   have much to say about castle because [TS]

00:07:53   it's like i'll put it on when I'm eating [TS]

00:07:55   it's like my popcorn show disorder zone [TS]

00:07:57   out and just enjoy the the formula which [TS]

00:08:00   is exactly the same on every single [TS]

00:08:01   episode so but it's nice when they do [TS]

00:08:03   like funny ones and they do they they're [TS]

00:08:05   clever still I think you know they have [TS]

00:08:07   a surprising amount of gas looking to [TS]

00:08:08   take after this many seasons definitely [TS]

00:08:11   appreciate a show that doesn't take [TS]

00:08:12   itself too seriously and that is [TS]

00:08:13   absolutely castle they did not take [TS]

00:08:15   themselves too seriously they're they're [TS]

00:08:17   not afraid of a good pastiche and I [TS]

00:08:18   appreciate that I've never seen castle [TS]

00:08:21   but don't they really like doing [TS]

00:08:22   nathan fillion references to other [TS]

00:08:24   obvious LOL oh yeah yeah that's and I'm [TS]

00:08:27   good with it they know that these so [TS]

00:08:29   much of that show relies on the charm of [TS]

00:08:31   nathan fillion and they just as with [TS]

00:08:33   anything open Jillian yeah exactly like [TS]

00:08:35   well let's just let up do kinda like [TS]

00:08:37   whatever he wants to do really and it [TS]

00:08:38   seems like they let him work in jokes [TS]

00:08:40   are pretty much anything there so that's [TS]

00:08:42   always fun and and they throw in some [TS]

00:08:43   occasional like running continuity [TS]

00:08:45   things which are you know interesting [TS]

00:08:47   but this season was a little strange [TS]

00:08:49   that department they still had some good [TS]

00:08:50   episode so it's it's a solid show as I [TS]

00:08:54   learned from Scott and Anthony talking [TS]

00:08:58   on the unjustly maligned podcast [TS]

00:09:00   scotland ltd [TS]

00:09:00   episode there about murder she wrote [TS]

00:09:02   castle is basically murder he wrote [TS]

00:09:04   pretty quick actually really is which is [TS]

00:09:09   not doing nothing wrong with that is [TS]

00:09:10   that is Comfort television [TS]

00:09:13   yep David what about you what shows you [TS]

00:09:15   have for us well the only thing I [TS]

00:09:17   watched more than Game of Thrones this [TS]

00:09:19   year with CSI cyber cyber don't steal my [TS]

00:09:24   show david i'm going to talk about CSI [TS]

00:09:25   site now I was examining we talked about [TS]

00:09:30   all the superheroes shows so won't even [TS]

00:09:31   spend time on that but outside of the [TS]

00:09:35   hose I i watched Jane the Virgin [TS]

00:09:38   actually on tagged Goodman's [TS]

00:09:40   recommendation and fell in love with [TS]

00:09:43   that right show just delightful [TS]

00:09:47   I i enjoyed blackish and fresh off the [TS]

00:09:51   boat both on ABC both sitcoms both a [TS]

00:09:55   different take on family's it comes from [TS]

00:09:59   what we're seeing these days so I was [TS]

00:10:01   still watching Brooklyn nine-nine still [TS]

00:10:06   love Brooklyn nine-nine I love to the [TS]

00:10:08   parks and recreation finale and in case [TS]

00:10:13   in case there are people who haven't [TS]

00:10:15   seen it at all I will say is it ends [TS]

00:10:18   just perfectly really does spent the [TS]

00:10:20   entire season this entire season of it [TS]

00:10:22   was just the perfect absolutely from [TS]

00:10:24   start to finish i think they pretty much [TS]

00:10:26   nailed it like that is might be one of [TS]

00:10:27   the best last season's of television [TS]

00:10:29   I've ever seen and in just the the one [TS]

00:10:31   episode that's basically Amy Poehler and [TS]

00:10:33   nick offerman and that's it [TS]

00:10:35   yeah it was spectacular that might be [TS]

00:10:37   maybe my favorite episode of the whole [TS]

00:10:39   series might be the best [TS]

00:10:41   yeah I i have enjoyed iZombie has been [TS]

00:10:46   getting on a little bit [TS]

00:10:47   Rob Thomas Joe totally been meaning to [TS]

00:10:50   watch that but haven't yet so my god is [TS]

00:10:52   backed up we are well yeah no I mean I [TS]

00:10:54   am trying to think and they have been a [TS]

00:10:56   lot of new shows this year besides jane [TS]

00:10:59   the virgin and [TS]

00:11:00   and the superhero shows but one show [TS]

00:11:04   that surprised me this year and this [TS]

00:11:07   again this is one that I never would [TS]

00:11:09   have watched all you know just was like [TS]

00:11:12   oh it's another check Lori sitcom but [TS]

00:11:15   you know Todd vanderwerff and a whole [TS]

00:11:17   bunch of other TV critics said no no you [TS]

00:11:18   should give mom another chance [TS]

00:11:20   it's turned into a really good show wow [TS]

00:11:23   it's a solid sitcom i'm not going to say [TS]

00:11:26   it's the most brilliant thing on earth [TS]

00:11:28   but it allows the characters to be [TS]

00:11:31   serious and it deals with some pretty [TS]

00:11:34   intense addiction stories and relapses [TS]

00:11:39   and death and you know not you know it [TS]

00:11:44   did they don't know live in a fancy [TS]

00:11:45   house and they don't all have money and [TS]

00:11:47   then they don't have the perfect job and [TS]

00:11:50   it's not like what you're seeing on [TS]

00:11:53   network TV right now it's really [TS]

00:11:55   interesting [TS]

00:11:56   I mean Allison Janney come on she's [TS]

00:11:59   brilliant [TS]

00:12:00   so yeah it's that has surprised me it's [TS]

00:12:04   still not appointment television I'm [TS]

00:12:05   still not going out of my way to watch [TS]

00:12:07   it but when i come across it and we [TS]

00:12:09   leave it on [TS]

00:12:10   critics are raving I left and I left the [TS]

00:12:12   time I didn't turn away from blah but it [TS]

00:12:16   Brian what what shows did you bring for [TS]

00:12:19   us and I know you're primarily here [TS]

00:12:20   talking of Thrones but we should also [TS]

00:12:22   get your your input on television again [TS]

00:12:24   know the thing I watched the most this [TS]

00:12:26   season was Game of Thrones on my [TS]

00:12:28   favorite thing i watch this year was an [TS]

00:12:31   old show party down i binge the entire [TS]

00:12:33   it is sick [TS]

00:12:35   oh my god i'm not a fan of the like [TS]

00:12:37   awkward sitcom comedy things I feel like [TS]

00:12:40   the best evolution of it since the [TS]

00:12:42   original office was party down and it [TS]

00:12:45   was i'm amazed it's taken me this long [TS]

00:12:47   to see it [TS]

00:12:48   what else uhhhh another plug for [TS]

00:12:49   Brooklyn nine-nine my favorite currently [TS]

00:12:52   running show it's the second season is [TS]

00:12:54   flawless a shout to Bob's Burgers i [TS]

00:12:57   really enjoyed this fifth season the I [TS]

00:12:59   enjoy watching the show not really [TS]

00:13:01   knowing what it is in the first season [TS]

00:13:02   trying to replicate early simpsons with [TS]

00:13:05   some really raunchy jokes but as it [TS]

00:13:07   picked up with lots of little kids and [TS]

00:13:10   things like that [TS]

00:13:11   the show's really evolved and it's [TS]

00:13:13   starting to become [TS]

00:13:14   more zany more silly way more pop [TS]

00:13:16   culture references lots of just letting [TS]

00:13:18   the comedians that run the voice cast of [TS]

00:13:21   the show just kind of go off and [TS]

00:13:22   throwing whatever they want in the in [TS]

00:13:25   the dialogue and it's wonderful what [TS]

00:13:28   else i do want to give a shout out to a [TS]

00:13:31   mini series that aired last October on [TS]

00:13:34   cartoon network called over the garden [TS]

00:13:36   wall which is a brilliant little [TS]

00:13:38   10-episode thing that they aired over [TS]

00:13:40   the course of a week [TS]

00:13:41   it takes maybe 90 minutes to watch the [TS]

00:13:44   entire thing in one sitting it is if [TS]

00:13:45   adventuretime met year walk for iOS it [TS]

00:13:49   is a beautifully animated heartbreaking [TS]

00:13:52   story about two young boys wandering the [TS]

00:13:56   woods running away from an evil beast [TS]

00:13:58   and it becomes it's more episodic than [TS]

00:14:00   that but it is a really beautiful [TS]

00:14:03   I I don't say avant-garde but it's very [TS]

00:14:05   unique and what it is it's almost like [TS]

00:14:08   it takes the adventure time [TS]

00:14:09   sensibilities and makes it scary Marlins [TS]

00:14:12   talk about this on a few other shows [TS]

00:14:13   it's my favorite thing from last year [TS]

00:14:16   and then this year was definitely a [TS]

00:14:18   Bob's Burgers and Brooklyn nine-nine [TS]

00:14:19   great choices [TS]

00:16:27   filtering all span out of my email and [TS]

00:16:29   for sponsoring me uncomfortable [TS]

00:16:31   John I have very little connection to [TS]

00:16:34   what is this season or whatever so I'm [TS]

00:16:36   just going to talk about shows that i [TS]

00:16:37   watched sure you'll tell me if it was [TS]

00:16:39   actually less all right all all judge [TS]

00:16:41   season or not season or not mad men [TS]

00:16:45   which has mentioned many times already i [TS]

00:16:46   pi really have always enjoyed that show [TS]

00:16:49   and I thought the ending of it was sort [TS]

00:16:53   of just right and also not satisfying to [TS]

00:16:56   most people and that like I i think a [TS]

00:16:59   lot of people wanted it to end how it [TS]

00:17:02   sounds like parks and rec and did like [TS]

00:17:04   oh you know and so our story is done and [TS]

00:17:07   it has come to a satisfying conclusion [TS]

00:17:08   when what madman is much more true to [TS]

00:17:11   the spirit of the show which is the [TS]

00:17:13   people in the show some of them have [TS]

00:17:15   changed since season one in ways of [TS]

00:17:18   minor and major but our hero don draper [TS]

00:17:22   and the general direction of you know [TS]

00:17:24   sort of humanity in the show like you [TS]

00:17:27   did [TS]

00:17:28   people don't change as much as you think [TS]

00:17:29   they do like the people who came to [TS]

00:17:31   status to sort of happier endings always [TS]

00:17:33   had that in him from the beginning of [TS]

00:17:35   season one and Don will always be done [TS]

00:17:38   always do the thing that Don does and [TS]

00:17:40   this season he just continued to do the [TS]

00:17:41   dog thing he did one more time one last [TS]

00:17:44   time and it is not a bow tied up on his [TS]

00:17:47   life it is a continuation of his life in [TS]

00:17:50   the fashion that it has been progressing [TS]

00:17:51   you know with with changes in two [TS]

00:17:53   different you know people get older [TS]

00:17:55   people move on [TS]

00:17:56   people get divorced people die [TS]

00:17:58   businesses dissolved but in the end he's [TS]

00:18:00   him he continues to be him and I think a [TS]

00:18:03   lot of people found that unsatisfying [TS]

00:18:04   like you know but didn't you learn [TS]

00:18:06   anything from this TV that I watched [TS]

00:18:08   like now he's still himself and he's [TS]

00:18:11   still doing what he does [TS]

00:18:12   I and he still has all his problems he [TS]

00:18:15   hasn't really solved his problems he's [TS]

00:18:18   living the life that Don Draper will [TS]

00:18:19   continue to live long after we stopped [TS]

00:18:20   watching on the show and i found that [TS]

00:18:22   you know sort of not satisfying from [TS]

00:18:25   like a story perspective of like now [TS]

00:18:28   you've tied everyone up and everyone [TS]

00:18:29   lands in the place you think they [TS]

00:18:30   deserve but in a realistic things like [TS]

00:18:32   it's not about deserve it's about this [TS]

00:18:35   is what this character that we've firmly [TS]

00:18:37   established over five seasons [TS]

00:18:39   this is what he's like and this is what [TS]

00:18:40   he's going to continue to be like and so [TS]

00:18:42   I give it props for bravery kind of in [TS]

00:18:45   the same way The Sopranos and anything I [TS]

00:18:47   really liked that a lot of people really [TS]

00:18:48   hated that was also true to it it's show [TS]

00:18:51   I I can't take the opposite view of the [TS]

00:18:54   finale which I loved but i think i think [TS]

00:18:57   he does actually change in the finale is [TS]

00:19:01   a change he just does something he [TS]

00:19:02   always does is it you know what I don't [TS]

00:19:04   know what but he's a he's at peace with [TS]

00:19:05   it and he's become a better version of [TS]

00:19:07   himself I mean he's broken before he [TS]

00:19:09   gets to that right it really added up [TS]

00:19:11   but has a hit bottom he's got into lots [TS]

00:19:13   of little dips then he comes out of it [TS]

00:19:14   and then he is re-energized for his work [TS]

00:19:17   in his life and his relationships and [TS]

00:19:18   then he descends again and then he comes [TS]

00:19:20   out of it and that like every time he [TS]

00:19:22   can't handle like oh I'm just making ads [TS]

00:19:24   for a living I'm not being true to [TS]

00:19:25   myself and that my relationships don't [TS]

00:19:27   work because I don't know how to love [TS]

00:19:29   that i have these needs and above all [TS]

00:19:30   but wait a second advertising is great [TS]

00:19:32   and I'm going to parlay my emotions into [TS]

00:19:34   making right ahead but oh it's all for [TS]

00:19:36   nothing like this is our he shows up and [TS]

00:19:38   down up and down and he just he goes [TS]

00:19:40   maybe goes down a little bit deeper and [TS]

00:19:41   he goes up a little bit higher but it's [TS]

00:19:43   just that the Don Draper roller coaster [TS]

00:19:45   well I think he's following the template [TS]

00:19:47   of his life yeah i mean that's that's [TS]

00:19:49   his coping mechanism [TS]

00:19:51   I think this time I mean it's it's [TS]

00:19:54   pretty clear that he's he's out there [TS]

00:19:56   for much longer than the show allows him [TS]

00:19:59   you know we just sort of see like I [TS]

00:20:01   don't know a minute at the end where [TS]

00:20:03   he's out at the ocean that he's doing [TS]

00:20:04   this he's doing that I i think it's [TS]

00:20:07   meant to be a much longer period of time [TS]

00:20:10   to think the oscillation is increasing [TS]

00:20:11   like whatever they did the time between [TS]

00:20:13   the dips is stretching out as he gets [TS]

00:20:15   older yeah yeah and and does he [TS]

00:20:18   completely changed i don't know i don't [TS]

00:20:19   think so but I think he's he's finally [TS]

00:20:22   reached the best version of Don Draper [TS]

00:20:26   that he can be yeah i think i think that [TS]

00:20:28   version of that 660 would be better [TS]

00:20:30   because i think the Ark's will [TS]

00:20:32   eventually go out to be longer and [TS]

00:20:33   longer and he'll use he'll either end on [TS]

00:20:36   a high or low but either way I'm glad [TS]

00:20:38   that it wasn't like and now all those [TS]

00:20:40   problems you saw him having for five [TS]

00:20:41   seasons are gone and he's coming for [TS]

00:20:43   them and he now has healthy [TS]

00:20:44   relationships and he has a family and [TS]

00:20:46   he's satisfied in his work that's not [TS]

00:20:47   gonna that's not gonna happen for him [TS]

00:20:49   yes then that was not gonna happen yeah [TS]

00:20:51   the one that I was a little bit [TS]

00:20:52   disappointed because I mean I just I [TS]

00:20:53   choose to believe that the p campbell [TS]

00:20:55   will make a disaster of his life [TS]

00:20:57   oh yeah but it seems like yeah let's go [TS]

00:21:00   off to wichita where we goin on our [TS]

00:21:02   private jet and we're back together like [TS]

00:21:03   that's got disaster written all over it [TS]

00:21:05   and my first thought was that was plane [TS]

00:21:07   crash [TS]

00:21:07   well not playing crash but like he's [TS]

00:21:09   gonna mess up in the way that he always [TS]

00:21:10   does [TS]

00:21:11   yeah he'll stick his foot in his mouth [TS]

00:21:13   and then someone else's mouth and yeah I [TS]

00:21:15   couldn't tell they were trying to say [TS]

00:21:16   hey Pete finally got it together and the [TS]

00:21:18   lesson of the show is nobody ever gets [TS]

00:21:20   it together and that's why I feel like [TS]

00:21:21   out you know Peggy and Joan and all like [TS]

00:21:23   they were always those people they were [TS]

00:21:26   just like but because of their [TS]

00:21:27   inexperience and the times in the [TS]

00:21:29   position they were in they had to claw [TS]

00:21:31   their way up to what they could have [TS]

00:21:32   always been you know to begin with right [TS]

00:21:35   now although i still think Peggy should [TS]

00:21:38   that should be it at I always found it [TS]

00:21:41   odd that Peggy did not spend more time [TS]

00:21:43   as far as where dwelling on her baby [TS]

00:21:45   that she gave away it seems like [TS]

00:21:47   something you would think about a lot [TS]

00:21:48   but it never came up in the show we [TS]

00:21:50   don't know what she's thinking we're not [TS]

00:21:51   inside her brain but it seemed it seemed [TS]

00:21:54   like the show didn't want to dwell on [TS]

00:21:56   that after season one [TS]

00:21:57   yeah and so what other shows up I'm [TS]

00:22:00   continue to watch orphan black and enjoy [TS]

00:22:01   it [TS]

00:22:02   I haven't even noticed I don't think the [TS]

00:22:04   season isn't over i think it is not as [TS]

00:22:06   good as it was but it still this is kind [TS]

00:22:08   of my castle orphan black is my castle [TS]

00:22:10   like all right you know i watch it it's [TS]

00:22:12   fun [TS]

00:22:13   our kind of silly I don't take it too [TS]

00:22:15   serious not you don't take it too [TS]

00:22:16   seriously the performances are still fun [TS]

00:22:18   i think the mythology of the show is [TS]

00:22:19   already a mess and was like all right [TS]

00:22:21   well it wasn't her it was a mess last [TS]

00:22:22   year so it's only just gotten workers [TS]

00:22:25   it's not getting better [TS]

00:22:26   house of cards also kind of I mean that [TS]

00:22:30   that's coming to a conclusion i assume [TS]

00:22:33   in the next season it's heading to her [TS]

00:22:35   like where can you really go after where [TS]

00:22:36   they are on the season [TS]

00:22:37   things are falling apart as predicted [TS]

00:22:39   they would the characters and [TS]

00:22:41   performances are still good the [TS]

00:22:42   political intrigue is so so I missed the [TS]

00:22:44   west wing gonna miss the pi miss me [TS]

00:22:47   being the age I was when the west wing [TS]

00:22:49   is on because i feel like every watch it [TS]

00:22:50   now would not like it as much [TS]

00:22:52   yes yes trust me on that no I i know i [TS]

00:22:55   said i would want rewatched it fairly [TS]

00:22:57   recently within the last year too and I [TS]

00:22:59   thought most would still held up pretty [TS]

00:23:00   good at all but anyway house of cards is [TS]

00:23:03   a poor substitute for that i'm looking [TS]

00:23:04   forward to orange is the new black you [TS]

00:23:05   know haven't seen it because i like that [TS]

00:23:07   show that shows a much more fun with [TS]

00:23:09   other ones listed girls had another [TS]

00:23:10   season also a show that is having [TS]

00:23:13   difficulty Reeve you know finding this [TS]

00:23:17   spirit that having season 1 but I still [TS]

00:23:19   watch it because it's interesting in the [TS]

00:23:20   episode is short and make me laugh and [TS]

00:23:22   finally I don't know if this was the [TS]

00:23:24   season and Sons of Anarchy to that end [TS]

00:23:26   now [TS]

00:23:27   yeah there's a seven-year i started sort [TS]

00:23:30   of hate watching it is like oh this is [TS]

00:23:31   silly show and I actually kind of got [TS]

00:23:33   into it in some of the you know middle [TS]

00:23:35   seasons may season to season 3 i'm like [TS]

00:23:37   you know this is kind of like especially [TS]

00:23:39   the one that ended with like a [TS]

00:23:40   successful caper by the people and you [TS]

00:23:43   know all the movie stuff with the main [TS]

00:23:44   character deciding what he's going to do [TS]

00:23:46   with his life early on and then they you [TS]

00:23:47   know that kind of found its footing as i [TS]

00:23:50   will show about a bunch of biker gangs [TS]

00:23:52   and [TS]

00:23:53   how they're finding their way and then [TS]

00:23:55   do it doesn't even care if I spoils of [TS]

00:23:58   America you shouldn't but doesn't spoil [TS]

00:24:01   her again at the end of the second to [TS]

00:24:03   last season when what's your name for [TS]

00:24:06   madmen get stabbed in the back of the [TS]

00:24:09   head with a fork [TS]

00:24:10   I said you know what eff this show and [TS]

00:24:12   then i watch the final season because [TS]

00:24:13   that's what you do now man and the final [TS]

00:24:15   season did not redeem it after that [TS]

00:24:18   that's when the show entirely lost me it [TS]

00:24:22   had built up to a point where they could [TS]

00:24:23   have had something that was in keeping [TS]

00:24:26   with with the story and the characters [TS]

00:24:27   and they went for the drama and the gore [TS]

00:24:30   and the over-the-top miss and the final [TS]

00:24:32   season is just nothing they could do it [TS]

00:24:34   they not that I really cared so much [TS]

00:24:36   about these characters but after that I [TS]

00:24:38   felt betrayed by the people who made the [TS]

00:24:40   show and just disgusted by the show in [TS]

00:24:43   general so i watch the pilot season it [TS]

00:24:44   was stupid and the ending who cares [TS]

00:24:47   don't bother watching sons of anarchy or [TS]

00:24:50   if you do stop before the second last [TS]

00:24:52   season [TS]

00:24:52   from what I've seen of sons of anarchy [TS]

00:24:54   Breaking Bad to the better job of doing [TS]

00:24:56   sons of anarchy that its last episodes [TS]

00:24:58   then sons of anarchy [TS]

00:25:00   don't even mention those who shows in [TS]

00:25:01   the same time yeah please not Sully the [TS]

00:25:04   name of breaking bed right anything else [TS]

00:25:06   that's very i forgot to shows [TS]

00:25:08   okay see this is why don't I am a [TS]

00:25:10   superhero shows because we did [TS]

00:25:12   California the whole thing about that [TS]

00:25:13   down okay we have their British that's [TS]

00:25:15   why I forgot them the third season of [TS]

00:25:18   Ripper Street which got resurrected by [TS]

00:25:20   amazon i believe is really really good [TS]

00:25:23   I enjoyed the first two seasons of that [TS]

00:25:24   Jerome Flynn who plays Braun on Game of [TS]

00:25:27   Thrones plays ate a detective which [TS]

00:25:30   what's it's a BBC series it's a BBC [TS]

00:25:32   america think I know it's one of those [TS]

00:25:35   weirdos that's like owned by various [TS]

00:25:37   people but like Amazon apparently rescue [TS]

00:25:39   because they were going to cancel it and [TS]

00:25:40   they return renewed it for like two more [TS]

00:25:42   seasons so it's going to go on for a [TS]

00:25:43   while [TS]

00:25:44   matthew macfadyen to who i also really [TS]

00:25:46   like and that's a good victorian-era [TS]

00:25:49   crime show and this season has a nice [TS]

00:25:52   sort of ongoing plot even as it delves [TS]

00:25:54   into you know one off things including [TS]

00:25:56   an episode that's like kind of like a [TS]

00:25:58   bottle episode that's pretty well done [TS]

00:25:59   is a mystery and then I've been watching [TS]

00:26:03   all of this is not new this season I've [TS]

00:26:04   been watching endeavor [TS]

00:26:06   which is the a prequel to the young [TS]

00:26:09   inspector morse basically an Oxford in [TS]

00:26:11   the nineteen sixties and it's it's a [TS]

00:26:14   it's one thing shows up on like a [TS]

00:26:16   masterpiece on like mystery or something [TS]

00:26:18   its but they're like hour-and-a-half [TS]

00:26:19   episodes but there's like only four [TS]

00:26:20   episodes in the season but it's fun it's [TS]

00:26:23   really well done it's just the guy who [TS]

00:26:25   plays the main characters is excellent [TS]

00:26:27   and shave Roger elements is Roger Allam [TS]

00:26:30   SE exaggerated asstastic he is so [TS]

00:26:32   good-looking detective detective [TS]

00:26:34   Inspector Thursday [TS]

00:26:35   yeah so I really like that show I've [TS]

00:26:38   only watched i think most of the first [TS]

00:26:40   season and I think it's on season two [TS]

00:26:42   right now or it's finished season two so [TS]

00:26:44   I i give that a big thumbs up as [TS]

00:26:46   something i started watching this was a [TS]

00:26:48   little over a year ago but true [TS]

00:26:51   detective season two is coming next week [TS]

00:26:53   or so season one kind of last year [TS]

00:26:55   really fantastic i'll have to say about [TS]

00:26:57   that cat was definitely no this isn't [TS]

00:27:00   right guys it was real I mean seasons [TS]

00:27:02   are all breaking down that was in the [TS]

00:27:03   summer so was it was been it's been a [TS]

00:27:05   year since we talked about this and true [TS]

00:27:07   detective premiered I think after we [TS]

00:27:08   talked about so you throw that in there [TS]

00:27:10   you're not going to lose any points if [TS]

00:27:12   you're also not going to give me points [TS]

00:27:14   because i'm not i don't have a lot to [TS]

00:27:18   add david took my mention of CSI cyber [TS]

00:27:21   as I've detailed on the TV talking [TS]

00:27:24   machine podcast CSI cyber the CSI stands [TS]

00:27:26   for cyber cyber investigation the second [TS]

00:27:30   cyber spelled with an S see the seam a [TS]

00:27:33   stand for CBS I'm not sure [TS]

00:27:35   anyway it's really statement stands for [TS]

00:27:37   synergy CSI cyber it's spectacularly [TS]

00:27:40   stupid show [TS]

00:27:41   watch it and laugh if you like it is I i [TS]

00:27:44   would suggest going to completing the [TS]

00:27:46   war or award for the dumbest show of the [TS]

00:27:48   season and I saw scorpion which is [TS]

00:27:53   really close which is also amazingly [TS]

00:27:55   done but so is this millions it down [TS]

00:27:58   yeah of all the shows that have been [TS]

00:27:59   mentioned the only show that hasn't come [TS]

00:28:01   up that I want to throw I want to throw [TS]

00:28:02   a little love is the what seventh and [TS]

00:28:06   presumably six no six then presumably [TS]

00:28:08   final season of community which which [TS]

00:28:11   school doubt on yahoo screen vibes like [TS]

00:28:13   watching and you know what [TS]

00:28:15   probably not their best season but maybe [TS]

00:28:18   their second-best season [TS]

00:28:19   way better than the last couple years [TS]

00:28:21   some really good stuff i was surprised I [TS]

00:28:24   was just worried that it was going to be [TS]

00:28:25   not that interesting and it actually [TS]

00:28:28   ended up being really quite good so if [TS]

00:28:31   you are a community fan and you haven't [TS]

00:28:33   sorted out on yahoo screen you should [TS]

00:28:35   because it was good and then everything [TS]

00:28:37   else I've got is just to agree with the [TS]

00:28:40   praise for Brooklyn nine-nine and Parks [TS]

00:28:42   and Rec finale Jane the Virgin really [TS]

00:28:45   good and then we talked about all a [TS]

00:28:46   couple episodes ago about all the [TS]

00:28:47   superhero shows that were that that are [TS]

00:28:49   good especially the flash so you should [TS]

00:28:52   check those out to more positive and [TS]

00:28:55   tell you about something that's not a [TS]

00:28:56   sponsor you all may know I left my long [TS]

00:29:00   time job or late last year and one of [TS]

00:29:03   the ways i am working and support my [TS]

00:29:06   family as an independent person is i'm [TS]

00:29:09   writing stuff I've my own website and [TS]

00:29:11   i'm also doing a bunch of different [TS]

00:29:13   podcasts including of course the [TS]

00:29:14   incomparable now the way I make money [TS]

00:29:17   from the incomparable is through [TS]

00:29:18   advertising and I also get to do some [TS]

00:29:21   nice things at the end of the year for [TS]

00:29:22   my panelists by bringing in money for [TS]

00:29:25   the uncomfortable and one of the ways [TS]

00:29:27   that we can sell good ads that actually [TS]

00:29:30   irrelevant to you is by doing a [TS]

00:29:32   demographic survey which we do a couple [TS]

00:29:34   of times a year using the ad network [TS]

00:29:37   that we use to sell ads on the [TS]

00:29:38   uncomfortable and its survey time so if [TS]

00:29:41   you could drop into the survey it would [TS]

00:29:43   help us out a lot [TS]

00:29:44   your pod survey dot-com / smell that's [TS]

00:29:47   pod survey p.o.d su are ve y dot com / [TS]

00:29:51   smell my last name take about five [TS]

00:29:53   minutes it's completely anonymous [TS]

00:29:56   the aggregate all the data and the whole [TS]

00:29:58   idea is just to provide good demographic [TS]

00:30:00   data so that we can find advertisers [TS]

00:30:01   that are matched to the uncomfortable [TS]

00:30:03   and you guys are awesome [TS]

00:30:04   so the more information we've got the [TS]

00:30:06   more advertisers can say oh those guys i [TS]

00:30:08   want to reach those guys and that help [TS]

00:30:10   support me and the show and when you [TS]

00:30:12   finish the the survey you actually get [TS]

00:30:15   entered in a monthly drawing to win a [TS]

00:30:16   hundred-dollar amazon gift card so [TS]

00:30:17   that's a little bonus anyway pod survey [TS]

00:30:20   dot-com / smell [TS]

00:30:22   thank you for helping me and the [TS]

00:30:24   incomparable find the best advertiser's [TS]

00:30:26   keep the show coming to you regularly [TS]

00:30:28   for free supporting the network as a [TS]

00:30:29   whole i really appreciated thank you [TS]

00:30:32   very much for listening [TS]

00:30:33   and thanks in advance for filling out [TS]

00:30:35   the surfing well let's move on now and [TS]

00:30:37   I'm gonna fire out the spoiler horn [TS]

00:30:39   we're going to be talking about [TS]

00:30:40   everything that happened in season 5 of [TS]

00:30:42   Game of Thrones so here comes the [TS]

00:30:44   spoiler horn [TS]

00:30:49   who yep wow that's just better in person [TS]

00:30:52   it's a spectacular longer it seems long [TS]

00:30:55   it always seems longer than any other [TS]

00:30:57   sure you it's always the same always the [TS]

00:30:59   same length so season 5 of game with [TS]

00:31:02   resin Brian and I have talked about it a [TS]

00:31:03   lot but but i have not talked about it [TS]

00:31:05   on on this podcast with Brian this is [TS]

00:31:08   true so where we could just do that now [TS]

00:31:10   but I wanted to get the take of the [TS]

00:31:12   people who haven't done many many [TS]

00:31:13   podcast about Game of Thrones this year [TS]

00:31:15   first so John and Erica and Dan GA you [TS]

00:31:19   would any of you like to talk about sort [TS]

00:31:21   of the the whole game thrones season as [TS]

00:31:23   a whole are already told John does his [TS]

00:31:25   opening statement as you have that was [TS]

00:31:27   just gonna say don't think Johnny ok [TS]

00:31:29   let's start [TS]

00:31:29   ok everybody first John I hope John has [TS]

00:31:31   something to say i love the net but [TS]

00:31:33   whatever [TS]

00:31:33   yeah I have a little bit so I've never [TS]

00:31:36   read the books i am the non book reader [TS]

00:31:37   in our game of thrones group here right [TS]

00:31:40   I and in the beginning I enjoyed that [TS]

00:31:42   because i didn't have the burden of [TS]

00:31:44   comparing it to the books i could just [TS]

00:31:46   enjoy it as a television show I didn't [TS]

00:31:48   care whether it was or was not following [TS]

00:31:50   the books this season based on my vague [TS]

00:31:54   awareness of the relation to the books [TS]

00:31:57   that I get through seeing people's [TS]

00:31:59   grumpy tweets about the show my [TS]

00:32:02   impression is that we have you there [TS]

00:32:04   caught up to the books or are starting [TS]

00:32:06   to deviate from the books or both and [TS]

00:32:08   even though i don't know or care [TS]

00:32:09   anything about the books i find that add [TS]

00:32:13   some kind of excitement to the show that [TS]

00:32:15   and then don't know i guess you can tell [TS]

00:32:17   me if I'm wrong but like that the show [TS]

00:32:18   is that they were like caught up to real [TS]

00:32:21   time are closed and the show is sort of [TS]

00:32:23   doing its own thing and doesn't care [TS]

00:32:25   about the books and it seems more [TS]

00:32:27   exciting to me even though i don't know [TS]

00:32:29   what happens in the books i guess maybe [TS]

00:32:30   it's exciting to me because now the [TS]

00:32:31   possibility of spoilers is mostly [TS]

00:32:33   removed but i like the idea of not [TS]

00:32:36   knowing what's going to come next and [TS]

00:32:38   knowing that no one knows what's to come [TS]

00:32:39   next and that sort of feeling permeated [TS]

00:32:43   the season for me and it is entirely [TS]

00:32:45   false ceiling a feeling i guess you can [TS]

00:32:47   tell me now and I'll be else going to [TS]

00:32:49   let me tell you are exactly right it [TS]

00:32:52   looked as the season went along like [TS]

00:32:53   they were just diverging entirely for [TS]

00:32:56   what's happening the books and it turns [TS]

00:32:58   out that's not what they were doing in [TS]

00:32:59   the last episode what what I discovered [TS]

00:33:01   as a reader [TS]

00:33:02   of these books is the divergence [TS]

00:33:05   throughout the year was basically [TS]

00:33:07   editing to streamline the story so that [TS]

00:33:11   they could land essentially every [TS]

00:33:13   character in the last episode at the [TS]

00:33:16   point where they are within a chapter of [TS]

00:33:19   of where they are at the end of the of [TS]

00:33:21   the most recently released book i would [TS]

00:33:23   say with one it with one major exception [TS]

00:33:26   I feel like which was hard home which I [TS]

00:33:29   felt like was actually something that [TS]

00:33:31   male-male well there's things that may [TS]

00:33:33   happen yet in future books to be [TS]

00:33:35   released [TS]

00:33:36   right exactly what all the characters [TS]

00:33:38   end up landing like exactly again and we [TS]

00:33:40   blow the spoiler here John get stabbed [TS]

00:33:44   by the members of the Nights Watch at [TS]

00:33:45   the end of that book that's his [TS]

00:33:46   cliffhanger searcy does the walk of [TS]

00:33:49   shame naked through the streets and a [TS]

00:33:52   and that that happens at the end of the [TS]

00:33:55   the most recently released book except [TS]

00:33:58   the area or areas thing happens earlier [TS]

00:34:00   the blindness are you it's her [TS]

00:34:01   cliffhanger from the previous book and [TS]

00:34:03   yet a lot of the story that happens [TS]

00:34:05   after it in the inn is sort of stuff [TS]

00:34:07   that they kind of pushed forward so they [TS]

00:34:09   move some stuff around there but I don't [TS]

00:34:11   think Tyrion was did he make it to Marie [TS]

00:34:13   Tyrians past again that's a case where [TS]

00:34:15   he had his story is actually gone past [TS]

00:34:17   the end of the book so well at this [TS]

00:34:19   point the whole show is either at the [TS]

00:34:22   end i would say with maybe you could [TS]

00:34:24   argue about already a little bit but but [TS]

00:34:25   even there I feel like she's she's so [TS]

00:34:28   close that essentially the show is often [TS]

00:34:31   is off the map for book readers now it's [TS]

00:34:33   either at the point where the book ended [TS]

00:34:35   or its past the point where the book and [TS]

00:34:37   we ok so we're all just I have no idea i [TS]

00:34:40   get time I got wildly significant right [TS]

00:34:41   now it's so good it's a wonder together [TS]

00:34:44   whether or not John snow is really dead [TS]

00:34:45   yeah what about bran and Rickon what [TS]

00:34:47   about and hold on that was last season [TS]

00:34:49   like that and that has bad they already [TS]

00:34:51   jumped ahead in that whenever he's in [TS]

00:34:52   their story last seasoning it was [TS]

00:34:54   literally their material from Dance with [TS]

00:34:57   Dragons the most recent book so they had [TS]

00:34:59   dad nothing to do so they just took them [TS]

00:35:01   off the stage for this season I think [TS]

00:35:03   that a couple of episodes they they [TS]

00:35:05   showed them like in the previously on [TS]

00:35:08   like are they gonna talk I've totally [TS]

00:35:09   expected them to come back at the end of [TS]

00:35:11   hannahs the season [TS]

00:35:13   but i guess they just had nothing more [TS]

00:35:15   to say about them and they were just [TS]

00:35:16   reminding you that they existed in the [TS]

00:35:18   previously i wanted to see now that the [TS]

00:35:19   gods would it a at Winterfell where [TS]

00:35:22   we're like beyond or science was out of [TS]

00:35:25   the trees and like the trees eyes open [TS]

00:35:27   it's like Who I you see you and it turns [TS]

00:35:29   out the better [TS]

00:35:29   that's a that's a brand from inside the [TS]

00:35:32   little his lake street people cave i can [TS]

00:35:35   come and save John right or I'll be [TS]

00:35:37   saved by the red lady what's her name [TS]

00:35:39   was on the Stanford she's that requires [TS]

00:35:42   a running that's already moved so that's [TS]

00:35:43   interesting because i was reading about [TS]

00:35:44   it and then they were like i was reading [TS]

00:35:47   recaps they reminded me that that [TS]

00:35:49   Melisandre and earlier met beric [TS]

00:35:51   Dondarrion who is also returned from the [TS]

00:35:54   dead a bunch of times which I totally [TS]

00:35:55   forgotten what I yeah that's like the [TS]

00:35:57   most seasoned CEO she meets to throw [TS]

00:36:00   some mirin beric Dondarrion and [TS]

00:36:01   yesterday when we watch that scene at [TS]

00:36:03   the ready hard has resurrected other [TS]

00:36:05   people before and she also has an [TS]

00:36:07   interesting interchange with Aria where [TS]

00:36:08   she's like you're basically going to [TS]

00:36:10   murder a lot of people surprise and i'll [TS]

00:36:13   see you again at some point so that's [TS]

00:36:14   still kinda hang in there on the other [TS]

00:36:16   hand like so i should resurrect him but [TS]

00:36:18   on the other hand dunno she just loves [TS]

00:36:20   that Kings blood and there's a whole [TS]

00:36:21   bunch of that there is gonna get a jar [TS]

00:36:23   Kings bastard blood but still she's been [TS]

00:36:25   known to eat some of that out from time [TS]

00:36:27   to time like yes you should run over [TS]

00:36:28   that resurrected just collect the blood [TS]

00:36:30   resurrect to collect the blood I don't [TS]

00:36:32   know as a fellow healthy supply of it [TS]

00:36:33   now with the wall so just grab that a [TS]

00:36:36   lot of blood [TS]

00:36:36   it's two months running off into the [TS]

00:36:38   snow i think yeah Erica what did you [TS]

00:36:40   think of this season as a whole [TS]

00:36:41   well I'm I'm kind of in between i'm not [TS]

00:36:44   actually a book reader although i tried [TS]

00:36:46   when I heard they were creating a show [TS]

00:36:48   of it i read i started reading books and [TS]

00:36:49   I just didn't like them slide thru the [TS]

00:36:51   first book and most of the second one [TS]

00:36:53   and eventually i just gave up because it [TS]

00:36:55   was while it was the great world [TS]

00:36:57   building and stuff i just didn't really [TS]

00:36:58   like any of the characters all that much [TS]

00:37:00   and it's just one bad thing after [TS]

00:37:02   another after another so it just it made [TS]

00:37:05   me feel not good so I quit reading it [TS]

00:37:06   but i thought i'd give the show a try [TS]

00:37:09   and there's just something about [TS]

00:37:10   watching actors breathe life into these [TS]

00:37:12   characters that made me enjoy it so much [TS]

00:37:14   more than the experience of reading the [TS]

00:37:16   books so i have i have stuck with a show [TS]

00:37:18   and enjoyed it [TS]

00:37:20   however as we have gotten through this [TS]

00:37:22   season it seems like that kind of sloggi [TS]

00:37:24   feeling from [TS]

00:37:26   i'm reading the books is rearing its [TS]

00:37:27   ugly head again a little bit because yes [TS]

00:37:31   there were some characters that I like [TS]

00:37:32   but many of them have died or made [TS]

00:37:34   choices that I just have to shake my [TS]

00:37:36   head at or just such horrible things are [TS]

00:37:38   happening to them that it has become [TS]

00:37:40   less fun for me to watch so i mean i'm [TS]

00:37:42   not i'm not giving up on the show but i [TS]

00:37:45   am a i'm enjoying it a little bit less [TS]

00:37:47   than i was before i agree i feel like [TS]

00:37:50   it's the worst of both worlds in that [TS]

00:37:52   horrible things are happening to these [TS]

00:37:54   characters and you should feel for them [TS]

00:37:56   but at this point where five seasons in [TS]

00:37:57   there almost archetypes we exactly know [TS]

00:38:00   what people are going to be doing and [TS]

00:38:02   why they're gonna be doing it it's very [TS]

00:38:04   rare that motives change like that so [TS]

00:38:05   there's kind of their doing stuff and [TS]

00:38:07   we're along with them and it gets so [TS]

00:38:10   bleak and so depressing that's [TS]

00:38:12   impossible watch the bleakness I [TS]

00:38:13   understand because I mean this is the [TS]

00:38:15   this is the middle of the story this is [TS]

00:38:17   the second act [TS]

00:38:18   they're about to get the that the [TS]

00:38:20   producers have said they want to finish [TS]

00:38:21   in two more seasons so you know this is [TS]

00:38:24   the dark this is the dark part that [TS]

00:38:27   least the empire strikes back is this is [TS]

00:38:29   this is it and and I is set at several [TS]

00:38:31   points this season it you know i'm [TS]

00:38:33   willing to go to these dark places with [TS]

00:38:35   them but they're sure as hell better be [TS]

00:38:37   an upswing at some point you know [TS]

00:38:39   because because why are we watching it [TS]

00:38:41   all it is is just everything's terrible [TS]

00:38:43   when everybody dies in the the White [TS]

00:38:44   Walkers kill everybody the end is right [TS]

00:38:46   at the end of the White Walkers so [TS]

00:38:48   everybody raise them all from the dead [TS]

00:38:49   and we just start all over again is it [TS]

00:38:51   and then it's a sitcom with white [TS]

00:38:52   walkers it becomes a comedy because all [TS]

00:38:54   the humans are laughing and it's the [TS]

00:38:55   White Walkers I got something to do all [TS]

00:38:56   day then just you know it's a [TS]

00:38:57   second-deck that the other thing that [TS]

00:39:00   that has sort of turned me off a little [TS]

00:39:02   bit is you know there are definitely [TS]

00:39:04   issues with the treatment of women [TS]

00:39:05   throughout the throughout the show and [TS]

00:39:07   you know some of its just a really [TS]

00:39:08   obvious stuff that you know i'm not a [TS]

00:39:10   fan of rape scenes never have been never [TS]

00:39:12   will be but the thing that actually i [TS]

00:39:14   think that that made me swear out loud [TS]

00:39:16   at the television was the the battle [TS]

00:39:19   scene with the White Walkers which I [TS]

00:39:22   wanted to enjoy because it was really [TS]

00:39:24   cool but they had the I don't remember [TS]

00:39:27   what her name was but the the woman who [TS]

00:39:29   was the elder of the wildly rise and I [TS]

00:39:32   was really excited at first because you [TS]

00:39:33   know he's like ok gather the elders and [TS]

00:39:35   we needed to go talk about this [TS]

00:39:37   and I thought it was a really cool sort [TS]

00:39:39   of cultural thing that the elders were [TS]

00:39:41   not actually old people with your [TS]

00:39:43   wildling it'sit's the elders are the [TS]

00:39:45   people who are the the wisest and the [TS]

00:39:47   people who are going to be able to leave [TS]

00:39:48   the best and i thought that was really [TS]

00:39:51   neat things like oh hey cool there's a [TS]

00:39:52   chick she's leading that's awesome [TS]

00:39:54   and then and then so then and then they [TS]

00:39:59   totally they just give me turn her [TS]

00:40:01   around to her motivations are completely [TS]

00:40:03   gendered and she's you know I have no [TS]

00:40:05   problem with maternal instincts i do [TS]

00:40:07   have a problem with the character who is [TS]

00:40:09   supposed to be this strong Wilding [TS]

00:40:11   character who has survived in the north [TS]

00:40:13   north of the wall this time who suddenly [TS]

00:40:15   can't kill a bunch of skeletons simply [TS]

00:40:17   because they are small and look [TS]

00:40:18   something like children yeah I was so [TS]

00:40:20   upset I almost didn't watch the next [TS]

00:40:22   episode if they were really cream you [TS]

00:40:24   have maternal instinct would have made [TS]

00:40:25   her kill them even more because she [TS]

00:40:27   needs to stay alive for her kids who she [TS]

00:40:28   just put on the boat that's the maternal [TS]

00:40:30   instinct is do whatever you can to stay [TS]

00:40:32   alive because your kids need you so the [TS]

00:40:34   advantages that doesn't with some really [TS]

00:40:36   was super lazy and on the other side of [TS]

00:40:38   the maternal instinct when I when what's [TS]

00:40:40   your name [TS]

00:40:41   Stannis's wife who has been very cold [TS]

00:40:44   towards the daughter for the entire [TS]

00:40:45   series so the daughter meets an untimely [TS]

00:40:47   end and they have the woman you know so [TS]

00:40:51   there's two ways this could have gone [TS]

00:40:51   you know she stays on filling the whole [TS]

00:40:53   time and that's in character for her [TS]

00:40:55   because she's been like that all time [TS]

00:40:56   she's a horrible person or she realizes [TS]

00:40:59   her mistake and I fully once they showed [TS]

00:41:01   that she was like oh I you know you [TS]

00:41:02   can't do this to my child I fully [TS]

00:41:04   expected her to jump onto the fire and [TS]

00:41:06   died with her as well and they didn't do [TS]

00:41:08   that they just kind of had a sort of [TS]

00:41:09   ineffectually be like vaguely regret [TS]

00:41:11   this [TS]

00:41:12   oh I right now i will say on the flip [TS]

00:41:13   side of that one of the one of the [TS]

00:41:15   things that i liked about the fallout [TS]

00:41:17   from that decision was that you know we [TS]

00:41:19   were watching the I think that we were [TS]

00:41:20   watching that scene [TS]

00:41:21   Jason and David and we were all like wow [TS]

00:41:24   like who keeps following the dude who [TS]

00:41:26   just like sacrifice his own daughter and [TS]

00:41:28   sure enough like everybody was like yeah [TS]

00:41:30   all right we're out there go two ways on [TS]

00:41:32   that but like you know that's the type [TS]

00:41:34   of thing you have people would leave and [TS]

00:41:35   the other half would be like this guy [TS]

00:41:36   serious like this thing I've used if you [TS]

00:41:38   believe in the silly Matt you know like [TS]

00:41:40   you believe in like the magic and the [TS]

00:41:41   whole thing like or you later okay if [TS]

00:41:43   this guy burns his daughter death what [TS]

00:41:45   you gonna do to me right are not not [TS]

00:41:47   that you [TS]

00:41:47   get out of fear but you really believe [TS]

00:41:49   that because effectively speaking he did [TS]

00:41:51   have she did have the big black thing [TS]

00:41:52   that killed readily right so it's not [TS]

00:41:54   like it's like you're believing this [TS]

00:41:55   with no reason but mostly people don't [TS]

00:41:57   know about that [TS]

00:41:58   well I know but he was victorious over [TS]

00:41:59   Emily because of this magic he's telling [TS]

00:42:01   you we need to do this for the magic [TS]

00:42:03   reason half the people like I'm out [TS]

00:42:04   whatever and around the other half are [TS]

00:42:06   like this guy's really gonna be king you [TS]

00:42:07   see how hardcore he is [TS]

00:42:09   turns out not so much but you know like [TS]

00:42:11   it is a reasonable belief belief for the [TS]

00:42:14   people who are following him that you're [TS]

00:42:16   showing what a monster you are and that [TS]

00:42:18   would make a certain kind of person [TS]

00:42:19   really believe that the same thing [TS]

00:42:22   standing waves it's his destiny and blah [TS]

00:42:24   blah but i I just I like there were [TS]

00:42:27   consequences from it is i guess my point [TS]

00:42:29   is like that there were a lot of people [TS]

00:42:30   because especially during that scene [TS]

00:42:32   when they do the the simulation seen [TS]

00:42:34   there there are lots of people kind of [TS]

00:42:36   looking at it you know they should cut [TS]

00:42:37   back to the soldiers who are looking [TS]

00:42:38   very uncomfortable for the most part and [TS]

00:42:41   so you know not they could have just [TS]

00:42:43   like all right great we burned her now [TS]

00:42:45   we've got the Lord light on her side now [TS]

00:42:47   we will you know rides victory and [TS]

00:42:49   instead it turned out that totally [TS]

00:42:51   backfired and I think that's it's [TS]

00:42:53   Stannis has been really really you know [TS]

00:42:55   he's lauded as this great tactician and [TS]

00:42:57   military commander and this is a major [TS]

00:42:59   misstep for him and you know to the [TS]

00:43:01   point that it appears to lead to his [TS]

00:43:03   demise [TS]

00:43:04   so i think it's it's interesting that [TS]

00:43:05   you know the sort of fall back on [TS]

00:43:07   you know the religious themes for him [TS]

00:43:09   end up not really working out his [TS]

00:43:10   favorite not only did he lose his entire [TS]

00:43:12   family loses battle he loses his army [TS]

00:43:14   and possibly lose his life possibly why [TS]

00:43:16   you think they left that open because it [TS]

00:43:18   seemed pretty shot domain if they could [TS]

00:43:21   shoot they enjoy it and they showing off [TS]

00:43:23   a lot of beheading demonstrate how did [TS]

00:43:25   they didn't show the daughter burning [TS]

00:43:27   either with a rare moment of tastes like [TS]

00:43:30   we wanted to focus on the reactions of [TS]

00:43:32   the people there and I think then that [TS]

00:43:33   in the status i agree with you it seems [TS]

00:43:36   very likely that brand new skills status [TS]

00:43:39   which is also a departure from the book [TS]

00:43:40   i believe but I i am not i would not be [TS]

00:43:45   surprised to find out that she has [TS]

00:43:47   spared him for some reason like I could [TS]

00:43:49   see a rationale for it [TS]

00:43:50   the show has burned that character [TS]

00:43:52   basically because the character had an [TS]

00:43:53   artist and is completed the arc [TS]

00:43:55   the audience hates him forever with good [TS]

00:43:57   reason he has no more friends he has no [TS]

00:44:00   more army his role in the storytelling [TS]

00:44:02   like now he's basically in the reek role [TS]

00:44:04   even Rican have some Redemption I [TS]

00:44:06   suppose but like yeah nobody nobody [TS]

00:44:08   likes tennis anymore [TS]

00:44:09   I think that's pretty conclusive when [TS]

00:44:11   you burn your daughter he have to do [TS]

00:44:13   with the steak though he spent his but [TS]

00:44:14   the season trying to not trying to avoid [TS]

00:44:16   it and in the end he had you know he did [TS]

00:44:19   he did it and he any anything [TS]

00:44:21   specifically we have for him is gone and [TS]

00:44:23   like he has a tragic character and like [TS]

00:44:25   I said he gave in to the red woman early [TS]

00:44:27   on and it paid off like it work exactly [TS]

00:44:29   like she said it was super powerful [TS]

00:44:31   magic is real big black scary thing [TS]

00:44:33   kills Renly like he was he was very [TS]

00:44:35   uncertain into being like I don't know [TS]

00:44:37   about this Lord light stuff and she's [TS]

00:44:38   whispering in his ear and i'm not sure [TS]

00:44:40   and blah blah it's like all right go [TS]

00:44:41   with it and it's like holy crap that [TS]

00:44:43   work like this you know he still [TS]

00:44:46   cautious about it was like this is this [TS]

00:44:47   is real stuff she's not just blowing [TS]

00:44:49   smoke right and then he made the same [TS]

00:44:51   decision reluctantly in this season and [TS]

00:44:54   it didn't work out [TS]

00:44:55   I'm not going to say that i have known [TS]

00:44:57   what was coming having not read all of [TS]

00:44:58   the books so I I've been surprised a [TS]

00:45:01   bunch of times by the show but i think [TS]

00:45:02   that this was the most surprising of all [TS]

00:45:04   of the plot twist because i really [TS]

00:45:07   really didn't expect expect statuses [TS]

00:45:10   downfall in this manner so I was kind of [TS]

00:45:12   like oh boy it was that was fun to watch [TS]

00:45:14   because if you go back to the red [TS]

00:45:16   wedding or even the purple wedding [TS]

00:45:17   Joffrey's death scene [TS]

00:45:19   you really don't like you expect it [TS]

00:45:21   because he spends so much time there you [TS]

00:45:22   know something's going to happen it's [TS]

00:45:24   rarely spend so much time in one [TS]

00:45:25   location during one episode but for [TS]

00:45:28   John's death we get literally what two [TS]

00:45:31   minutes at the very end of the final [TS]

00:45:32   episode of the season and it just [TS]

00:45:34   happens and were left there with John [TS]

00:45:37   dead and we don't know what to think but [TS]

00:45:39   we don't know if he's dead and that was [TS]

00:45:41   so Telegraph like this whole sales in [TS]

00:45:42   our life John is dead meat like you know [TS]

00:45:45   everything he does this season I'm [TS]

00:45:46   surprised he didn't die early like [TS]

00:45:48   everything he does is he is trying to [TS]

00:45:49   find some kind of middle way but all of [TS]

00:45:51   his allies just fade away and everyone [TS]

00:45:54   else who hates him gets closer and [TS]

00:45:55   closer and closer John is making big [TS]

00:45:57   picture decisions that are the right [TS]

00:45:59   ones button all the details of the [TS]

00:46:02   personal relationships and everything he [TS]

00:46:04   is getting you know hehe [TS]

00:46:06   he is a painting himself in a corner and [TS]

00:46:09   it's in it is inevitable that this is [TS]

00:46:11   gonna happen to him [TS]

00:46:12   I did not expect it all I was really [TS]

00:46:14   expecting after the white Walker rampage [TS]

00:46:19   and all that was really thinking that he [TS]

00:46:22   would have in the back he would survive [TS]

00:46:23   until the very end because he can come [TS]

00:46:25   back and say this is what's gonna happen [TS]

00:46:26   it is really bad we need need to pair up [TS]

00:46:30   with wildlings and take care of this [TS]

00:46:32   I was expecting that but that's what I [TS]

00:46:34   had Ollie they're like the office the [TS]

00:46:35   second only knocks on the door surely it [TS]

00:46:37   occurred to you that was a bit but I [TS]

00:46:39   like they I don't know if he's a [TS]

00:46:41   character in the book but having him be [TS]

00:46:42   like hey but what these specific [TS]

00:46:44   wildlings came to my village and killed [TS]

00:46:46   my parents in front of me [TS]

00:46:48   he's never gonna come around like you [TS]

00:46:50   know what I think you're right John we [TS]

00:46:51   should team up with new never gonna [TS]

00:46:52   happen right and he isn't proxy for all [TS]

00:46:55   these other nights while he tried to do [TS]

00:46:57   like the political thing of putting his [TS]

00:46:59   uh his competitor for the election in [TS]

00:47:01   charge and giving your position and [TS]

00:47:02   doing like it's just it's just [TS]

00:47:04   inevitable like everybody just left him [TS]

00:47:07   or died or left him and he is just there [TS]

00:47:10   with all the people who hate him and [TS]

00:47:12   like it's like that night like all right [TS]

00:47:13   everyone's gone nuts that were telling [TS]

00:47:15   him i'm only going to be one by one vote [TS]

00:47:16   right and that guy died and then and now [TS]

00:47:20   he's and then he sets out to to bring [TS]

00:47:23   the wildlings in which everybody hates [TS]

00:47:26   Andy and even though he's good reasons [TS]

00:47:28   they become I feel like that's the [TS]

00:47:29   overarching story of Game of Thrones in [TS]

00:47:31   a way is that there's a clear threat to [TS]

00:47:35   all humanity [TS]

00:47:36   it's coming but humanity cannot look up [TS]

00:47:40   to the horizon and see it because [TS]

00:47:42   they're too busy fighting amongst [TS]

00:47:43   themselves and that's the whole story i [TS]

00:47:46   really liked it as I think the AV club's [TS]

00:47:48   review of this episode point out that we [TS]

00:47:49   get trolled by the previously on we edge [TS]

00:47:52   which brings up engine starting over way [TS]

00:47:55   back for season but I saw that I [TS]

00:47:58   couldn't understand why they were [TS]

00:48:00   showing that preview but it again soon [TS]

00:48:01   as I knocked the doors like don't go [TS]

00:48:03   John [TS]

00:48:04   ya know you always coming from you knew [TS]

00:48:06   that would be like sucked up and AC in [TS]

00:48:09   the book is only on the biology LOL [TS]

00:48:10   doesn't exist as a character in the book [TS]

00:48:12   I don't quite understand why John [TS]

00:48:13   doesn't see it as he knows people are [TS]

00:48:15   against them eat right like i said [TS]

00:48:16   trying to you know I'm gonna put this [TS]

00:48:17   guy in charge even though he was against [TS]

00:48:19   me in elections [TS]

00:48:19   got to get on his good side and the [TS]

00:48:21   attention like is even open the gate and [TS]

00:48:22   let me in turns out he's going to you [TS]

00:48:25   know he's just hanging out and worrying [TS]

00:48:26   about things he should have been much [TS]

00:48:27   more on guard or just bailed and run [TS]

00:48:30   away or something like he had many other [TS]

00:48:32   outs but and I think you're saying Jason [TS]

00:48:35   like that he is making big the correct [TS]

00:48:37   big picture decisions i think a lot of [TS]

00:48:39   his doubt i believe a lot of his doubt [TS]

00:48:41   that like is he making the correct big [TS]

00:48:43   picture decisions like maybe you know [TS]

00:48:46   the whole Wild Things is a fantasy [TS]

00:48:47   because I talked about his army of White [TS]

00:48:49   Walkers as thousands upon thousands upon [TS]

00:48:51   thousands of what have the wild things [TS]

00:48:52   are going to help you there you is nice [TS]

00:48:53   that you gave them shelter and let them [TS]

00:48:55   through the wall it's a nice humane [TS]

00:48:56   thing to do but that's not going to say [TS]

00:48:58   well it means that they're not in the [TS]

00:49:00   army because when you're fighting the [TS]

00:49:02   army of the Dead anybody leave behind [TS]

00:49:04   becomes part of the army i know but like [TS]

00:49:05   the army of the Dead sounds like it's so [TS]

00:49:07   massively bigger than any other army [TS]

00:49:09   they have any way and that's all these [TS]

00:49:10   are the two overarching things I see in [TS]

00:49:11   the show is that winter is coming and [TS]

00:49:13   those dudes took a real long time to [TS]

00:49:14   walk down from the snow or finally [TS]

00:49:16   making some progress and the other thing [TS]

00:49:17   is Daenerys I feel like she's like the [TS]

00:49:19   main character in the show like she's [TS]

00:49:22   trying to return to the throne to rule [TS]

00:49:24   place and meanwhile that places is is [TS]

00:49:27   threatened by the White Walkers which [TS]

00:49:28   apparently the White Walkers don't hang [TS]

00:49:29   out on the other side of the world i [TS]

00:49:31   don't know i can't tell example to [TS]

00:49:33   hostile land the land only extends north [TS]

00:49:35   in Westeros there so let's talk about [TS]

00:49:37   generic a little bit I felt like I felt [TS]

00:49:40   like her story was a lot of the [TS]

00:49:44   especially the first part of the season [TS]

00:49:45   a lot of rerun from previous seasons [TS]

00:49:47   where I felt like she was just kind of [TS]

00:49:50   on hold books feel like to be well yeah [TS]

00:49:53   I know there's a lot of time in the [TS]

00:49:54   books like oh it's the it's the [TS]

00:49:55   governing like this is boring is where [TS]

00:49:57   should really have added governing and [TS]

00:49:59   she's not a quick study just weird [TS]

00:50:00   genius bar thing where people come to [TS]

00:50:02   her and ask her for help directly it's [TS]

00:50:05   like she needs something more than that [TS]

00:50:06   but we've mixed in a whole bunch of [TS]

00:50:08   different characters there because now [TS]

00:50:10   we have Jorah Mormont back in the [TS]

00:50:11   picture we have grey worm we have miss [TS]

00:50:13   andy we have Tyrion we now have Ferris [TS]

00:50:15   as of the end of the episode who I [TS]

00:50:17   thought for a minute i had a brief [TS]

00:50:18   minute where I'm like is various a like [TS]

00:50:21   is Tyrion imagining veras here generally [TS]

00:50:24   up and about [TS]

00:50:26   been very kind of like you can like [TS]

00:50:27   we're gonna get that cut back and it [TS]

00:50:29   turns out he's just talking to himself [TS]

00:50:30   like I have thought that was how that [TS]

00:50:32   was gonna go they'll replay all the [TS]

00:50:34   scene the various presenting you realize [TS]

00:50:35   he was never there and no one else ever [TS]

00:50:38   talk to him except for Tyrion no that's [TS]

00:50:40   not true but it wasn't excited about [TS]

00:50:41   this as a season finale is because for [TS]

00:50:44   the rest of the time until the next [TS]

00:50:45   season comes along in my head I could [TS]

00:50:48   just pretend that the next season is [TS]

00:50:49   going to be 10 episodes of various [TS]

00:50:51   interior just chatting because I would [TS]

00:50:53   be completely happy with that it is [TS]

00:50:55   pretty great [TS]

00:50:56   I I mean Tyrion so here's here's [TS]

00:50:58   actually i think that one of the most [TS]

00:50:59   important things that happened this [TS]

00:51:00   season and the show is they put [TS]

00:51:01   characters together they cross they [TS]

00:51:04   crossed over the storylines scenarios [TS]

00:51:06   has been operating in a vacuum other [TS]

00:51:08   than I like barest and showed up and [TS]

00:51:12   after leaving King's Landing but this [TS]

00:51:16   year we get Tyrion interacting with [TS]

00:51:19   generis the story is starting to [TS]

00:51:21   converge at last because honestly [TS]

00:51:23   Denarius story has been almost entirely [TS]

00:51:25   in a vacuum this whole time so it was [TS]

00:51:27   nice to see that finally kind of come [TS]

00:51:29   together where we got to see we got to [TS]

00:51:31   see her interacting with Tyrion that was [TS]

00:51:34   just so there's some beautiful scenes [TS]

00:51:35   there [TS]

00:51:36   yeah I think I think i'ii I've never [TS]

00:51:37   been a big fan of genera storyline in [TS]

00:51:39   most of the books and so it because it's [TS]

00:51:43   so isolated [TS]

00:51:44   you know I'd always be I would get to [TS]

00:51:46   those chapters and be like oh man let's [TS]

00:51:47   go back to like what's happening with [TS]

00:51:49   the politics in this other place like [TS]

00:51:50   why am i carrying about this city you [TS]

00:51:52   know halfway across the world where it [TS]

00:51:53   doesn't seem to have any impact on like [TS]

00:51:55   the rest of these characters and so it's [TS]

00:51:57   nice that they have jumped to a point [TS]

00:51:58   now where this is there tying up those [TS]

00:52:01   in those knots and saying like all right [TS]

00:52:02   this is this is going to have an impact [TS]

00:52:04   on sort of our main overarching story [TS]

00:52:07   here rather than being isolated its own [TS]

00:52:09   little pocket across the sea so and and [TS]

00:52:11   you know those are it's nice to see [TS]

00:52:13   Tyrion doing something other than being [TS]

00:52:15   locked in a box always a plus although i [TS]

00:52:18   do enjoy all his scenes with Jorah this [TS]

00:52:20   season we're in a boat he talks a lot [TS]

00:52:24   great because you put Tyrion together [TS]

00:52:25   with anybody and I'm a happy camper [TS]

00:52:27   it's winter material in a boat show [TS]

00:52:29   could be a show [TS]

00:52:30   he's in a box for a while then he's in a [TS]

00:52:32   boat many doctors boat is not [TS]

00:52:34   great boat to be on i would think he's [TS]

00:52:36   so competent as a night why is he such a [TS]

00:52:38   bad boat driver person takes things [TS]

00:52:41   right is terrible boats he's not great [TS]

00:52:42   at both John you put all those points in [TS]

00:52:44   nineteen didn't put any point in having [TS]

00:52:45   that's right on the other character who [TS]

00:52:47   took a misstep the season with Cersei [TS]

00:52:49   has been so cutthroat into so savvy why [TS]

00:52:52   in the world would she cc'd power like [TS]

00:52:55   she had her son essentially in the palm [TS]

00:52:57   of her hand made sure that she maintain [TS]

00:52:59   that position with her son by you know [TS]

00:53:00   dealing with the wife situation there [TS]

00:53:02   why in the world would she risk it all [TS]

00:53:05   to bring in these religious guys and [TS]

00:53:07   basically give them power over the the [TS]

00:53:10   King Power over the throne i see i don't [TS]

00:53:13   agree with that because I think it's a [TS]

00:53:14   misstep like I think it's not it's not [TS]

00:53:16   her giving up power she's not realizing [TS]

00:53:18   what she's so savvy she doesn't realize [TS]

00:53:21   that but but she's taking a risk because [TS]

00:53:24   she's been marginalized right she's been [TS]

00:53:26   she's she's been pushed aside she's the [TS]

00:53:28   she's not the Queen anymore she's [TS]

00:53:30   essentially between mother and a small [TS]

00:53:32   council she's tried to form it in her [TS]

00:53:34   fashion but incomes uncle Kevan [TS]

00:53:36   Lannister and he's going to do things [TS]

00:53:38   his way and and when she she's playing a [TS]

00:53:42   game by thinking that she can manipulate [TS]

00:53:44   the highest that the sparrows and use [TS]

00:53:48   that to her advantage because she's [TS]

00:53:49   feeling weak at that moment but [TS]

00:53:51   interview their feelings into account [TS]

00:53:52   yeah yeah but like but the thing is that [TS]

00:53:55   she could get rid she could get rid of [TS]

00:53:57   the wife or marginalized the wife [TS]

00:53:59   without like the whole play is how can [TS]

00:54:02   you make the King do anything you need [TS]

00:54:04   to set up a situation where the Queen [TS]

00:54:06   someone can tell the Queen what to do [TS]

00:54:08   someone can condemn the Queen for [TS]

00:54:10   something or whatever so by setting that [TS]

00:54:11   up you have to create something that is [TS]

00:54:14   more powerful than the king and the [TS]

00:54:15   Queen and that thing is by definition a [TS]

00:54:18   threat to you whether you can control it [TS]

00:54:20   or not whether the high Sparrow is is [TS]

00:54:23   noble has good intentions to describe [TS]

00:54:24   doesn't matter like it's not a sir see [TS]

00:54:26   movie feel like she would never do that [TS]

00:54:27   she would find some other way even if [TS]

00:54:30   it's like poison lipstick if you want to [TS]

00:54:31   go that far [TS]

00:54:32   like there are so many other there's so [TS]

00:54:33   many ways to get rid of troublesome life [TS]

00:54:36   to that that's gonna be a great quote [TS]

00:54:38   out of context for John will use that [TS]

00:54:40   crisscross crisscross I think Marjorie [TS]

00:54:43   and and Elena her and it right is uh I [TS]

00:54:47   think they're just too [TS]

00:54:47   they're there to devious that they're [TS]

00:54:49   not gonna they're playing the game hard [TS]

00:54:51   and it's a and and I do feel like [TS]

00:54:54   services backed in a corner and that's [TS]

00:54:55   why she makes what turns out to be a [TS]

00:54:57   terrible decision she was bringing the [TS]

00:54:59   religious fundamentalists yay [TS]

00:55:01   what game if they're not related [TS]

00:55:02   fundamentals is like the did she willing [TS]

00:55:05   the throne willingly ceded power to the [TS]

00:55:08   religiously like my impression is that [TS]

00:55:09   the religious people have existed in [TS]

00:55:11   King's Landing for a long time but they [TS]

00:55:12   were never in charge charge right they [TS]

00:55:14   were they were pushovers right men and [TS]

00:55:16   now that you did they are they rule the [TS]

00:55:20   rule Westeros because if they're in [TS]

00:55:21   charge of the King yeah but she does she [TS]

00:55:23   doesn't put them and she doesn't put [TS]

00:55:24   them in charge of the king though they [TS]

00:55:25   take that because there's an upside we [TS]

00:55:27   were seeing what's fascinating about all [TS]

00:55:29   of that is that there's essentially a [TS]

00:55:31   revolution happening like it's a slow [TS]

00:55:33   revolution and end the the people in [TS]

00:55:36   like seriously who are in this the kind [TS]

00:55:39   of Royal position are are missing the [TS]

00:55:41   fact that this revolution is going on [TS]

00:55:43   she miss Reed's it so you know I I'm [TS]

00:55:46   with dan on this i think i think this is [TS]

00:55:48   her ass acting desperately thinking that [TS]

00:55:50   she's going to be able to control the [TS]

00:55:51   whole situation not understanding the [TS]

00:55:54   backing of the people and the plant the [TS]

00:55:56   the savviness of the high Sparrow and [TS]

00:55:58   run it very rapidly runs out of her [TS]

00:56:00   control [TS]

00:56:01   I can see that but it i think i'm a [TS]

00:56:03   little bit more with John this one just [TS]

00:56:05   because it [TS]

00:56:06   I feel like again not having read the [TS]

00:56:08   books with much of her but I certainly [TS]

00:56:10   enjoyed watching her more when she was [TS]

00:56:13   being smart and savvy and just you know [TS]

00:56:15   she was cutting through all of the [TS]

00:56:17   nonsense and getting what she wanted [TS]

00:56:19   what would by whatever means are [TS]

00:56:21   necessary and I understand they did an [TS]

00:56:23   okay job of backing her into a corner so [TS]

00:56:25   that she had to sort of take this risk [TS]

00:56:26   but I just maybe it's just because I [TS]

00:56:30   enjoy watching her less when she has [TS]

00:56:32   been brought so low I mean that I don't [TS]

00:56:35   like what she's doing what she's doing [TS]

00:56:36   well but I enjoy watching it if that [TS]

00:56:39   makes sense to so you could really tell [TS]

00:56:41   it didn't ring quite as true as it could [TS]

00:56:43   have [TS]

00:56:43   because I felt like I admired her so [TS]

00:56:46   much in the past that makes two [TS]

00:56:47   boneheads and move [TS]

00:56:48   just it it was kind of like a clang [TS]

00:56:51   whoops I within the last two books [TS]

00:56:53   there's a lot of boy seriously lost it [TS]

00:56:56   right she's like lost your touch [TS]

00:56:58   hmm well I feel like her touch came from [TS]

00:57:00   a lot of controlling her family and [TS]

00:57:03   Tommy such a lame duck that she can [TS]

00:57:06   control him however she wants and if [TS]

00:57:08   Marjorie wasn't there and I agree with [TS]

00:57:09   you John that you know she puts this [TS]

00:57:11   thing not necessarily above the king and [TS]

00:57:13   queen but in a place where they can harm [TS]

00:57:15   them and can be you know a force on them [TS]

00:57:19   and it would it would make more sense if [TS]

00:57:21   Tommy wasn't such a lame duck [TS]

00:57:24   yeah and we'll and her father is gone [TS]

00:57:25   and her brother is gone and her other [TS]

00:57:27   brother is gone right she's got less [TS]

00:57:29   because she's got less of those those [TS]

00:57:30   those pieces around her on top of it i [TS]

00:57:34   think it's interesting actually [TS]

00:57:35   something Erika said i think is [TS]

00:57:37   fascinating which is searcy what she [TS]

00:57:41   does is bad you know i would argue but [TS]

00:57:44   um but she she's been good at it and so [TS]

00:57:48   to see her be bad at it is is strangely [TS]

00:57:51   difficult because you're rooting against [TS]

00:57:53   her but you kind of want her to fail on [TS]

00:57:55   you know on her own terms and you want [TS]

00:57:58   to get her comeuppance for being exactly [TS]

00:58:00   did the wicked mother you don't want her [TS]

00:58:01   to fall on her own sword or make a [TS]

00:58:03   blender it's like oh that's unforced [TS]

00:58:05   error right so her last scene where she [TS]

00:58:07   is March naked through the streets and [TS]

00:58:08   everybody spitting on her and cursing [TS]

00:58:10   and honor as they go ding ding shame [TS]

00:58:12   shame shame ding three shades in the [TS]

00:58:15   ding that's how you do it [TS]

00:58:16   the UH that is it's actually kind of [TS]

00:58:21   painful to watch because you think to [TS]

00:58:23   yourself I should be gleeful that so [TS]

00:58:25   many bad things are happening too [TS]

00:58:27   seriously Lannister and i'm not i was [TS]

00:58:29   going hot bad and indifferent way I was [TS]

00:58:31   believable because I said services gonna [TS]

00:58:33   kill a lot of man she is gonna kill nuns [TS]

00:58:36   like no one is killed them because [TS]

00:58:39   here's the thing that was the whole [TS]

00:58:40   question the season like she ever gonna [TS]

00:58:41   get out of the dungeon is the highest [TS]

00:58:43   power just pulling your chain of ever [TS]

00:58:44   going to let her out like letting her [TS]

00:58:46   out and having to that big walk like big [TS]

00:58:47   mistake guys big mistake leaving whole [TS]

00:58:50   enemy the whole people's uh you know the [TS]

00:58:52   whole people's army thing or whatever [TS]

00:58:53   like that's great and all like oh you [TS]

00:58:55   know that the rich people up in there [TS]

00:58:57   they religious people are appealing to [TS]

00:58:58   the masses and you're all poor and we're [TS]

00:59:00   poor too and we realized that we [TS]

00:59:02   shouldn't be but they don't have an army [TS]

00:59:04   yeah they got people with a little [TS]

00:59:05   tattoo on their foreheads you came in [TS]

00:59:06   like 10 of those guys Kings like but [TS]

00:59:09   they have an army of people with swords [TS]

00:59:10   and like their that you there is no [TS]

00:59:12   uprising like there's a reason that the [TS]

00:59:14   royalty has been in power for so long [TS]

00:59:15   because the people as disheveled as they [TS]

00:59:18   might be in like oh we need to rise up [TS]

00:59:19   they don't have an army and those [TS]

00:59:21   religious guys they do not have an army [TS]

00:59:22   they don't have good fighters they don't [TS]

00:59:24   have a lot of men they don't have [TS]

00:59:25   equipment that i have supplies like they [TS]

00:59:28   can't i'm assuming they will try to be a [TS]

00:59:30   people's uprising but the people are [TS]

00:59:32   going to lose at least they should so [TS]

00:59:33   that's why it's even more ridiculous [TS]

00:59:35   that your seating power to these people [TS]

00:59:37   so they can like because you know make [TS]

00:59:38   this populist uprising [TS]

00:59:40   I mean it just seems like it even the [TS]

00:59:43   French Revolution I think you had a [TS]

00:59:44   little bit more of a fair fight no [TS]

00:59:47   matter how angry the people in King's [TS]

00:59:48   Landing get I feel like they are not [TS]

00:59:50   going to make a dent in the actual [TS]

00:59:51   standing army of the royal power which [TS]

00:59:53   is why when Cersei gets better and [TS]

00:59:56   freshens up a bit [TS]

00:59:57   she's going to mark back into that thing [TS]

00:59:58   and kill all those nights [TS]

00:59:58   and kill all those nights [TS]

01:00:00   yeah i think i think yeah she's not [TS]

01:00:01   going to make the same mistake again [TS]

01:00:02   right unless she's broken unless unless [TS]

01:00:05   she's like a broken person because [TS]

01:00:06   that's kind of the ARCA Jamie had like [TS]

01:00:08   he had his particular attitude losing [TS]

01:00:10   his hand really took him down a few pegs [TS]

01:00:11   humanized him now I think he's a [TS]

01:00:14   different character than he was and [TS]

01:00:15   that's why I kind of disagree with the [TS]

01:00:16   whole idea that like these archetypes [TS]

01:00:19   and they're not changing anymore i think [TS]

01:00:20   most of the characters do have arcs I [TS]

01:00:23   think Daenerys is still kind of in the [TS]

01:00:24   middle of her arc and Jamie and now is a [TS]

01:00:26   different character than he was in his [TS]

01:00:28   different character can start a new arc [TS]

01:00:29   in a new endeavor that I hope it doesn't [TS]

01:00:31   and I also liked all the Mediterranean [TS]

01:00:33   people like the all the people from [TS]

01:00:35   Dorne those characters even though they [TS]

01:00:37   were only here for a short period of [TS]

01:00:38   time I found them charismatic and [TS]

01:00:39   appealing and I like Dorne and I like [TS]

01:00:41   the culture clash and although this [TS]

01:00:43   stuff so I was still enthralled by the [TS]

01:00:45   season despite the many episodes that [TS]

01:00:48   have a better better you know basically [TS]

01:00:50   bombers yeah yeah we talked about Dorn I [TS]

01:00:54   wish there was more like I really wish [TS]

01:00:56   that the sand snakes have more to do [TS]

01:00:57   especially because they're very first [TS]

01:00:59   scene is such a big enthralling yes we [TS]

01:01:01   are going to take down the Lannisters [TS]

01:01:03   because we are here and we are going to [TS]

01:01:05   declare everything like this and it's [TS]

01:01:07   like I really wish that they had more to [TS]

01:01:09   do besides kiss people and poison people [TS]

01:01:12   with the kisses well in and print store [TS]

01:01:14   into who also dr. Bashir when you're [TS]

01:01:16   gonna share here and he doesn't he [TS]

01:01:19   doesn't end up with that much do [TS]

01:01:21   he's kind of ineffectual as a little [TS]

01:01:23   like he clearly has some you know clout [TS]

01:01:24   but he's also only barely keeping a hold [TS]

01:01:27   of sort of the situation down there but [TS]

01:01:29   he's making the right move like he's one [TS]

01:01:31   of the I like to see a leader like as [TS]

01:01:33   every leader like a bloodthirsty [TS]

01:01:34   power-crazed maniac know this guy's like [TS]

01:01:36   war sucks let's hang out any grapes guys [TS]

01:01:39   chill [TS]

01:01:39   yeah I feel like though if you're going [TS]

01:01:40   to introduce this whole scene you need [TS]

01:01:42   to do more with it because it feels like [TS]

01:01:44   in the end I just felt like we spent a [TS]

01:01:46   whole season and Doran and yet what we [TS]

01:01:48   really had was sort of like we have the [TS]

01:01:49   beach adventures of a bra on and Jamie [TS]

01:01:52   and then.we had like that one fight and [TS]

01:01:55   then they were in jail and then they [TS]

01:01:57   went home [TS]

01:01:57   oh but there was put poison and more [TS]

01:01:59   solid I i like the voice I was saying [TS]

01:02:01   because that that's like you know you [TS]

01:02:03   thought in the previous episode that she [TS]

01:02:05   had written by doing that she's assuming [TS]

01:02:07   essentially like signing on [TS]

01:02:09   that's more like which in the end she [TS]

01:02:10   couldn't let you go like to try to get [TS]

01:02:12   everyone all right because it's you know [TS]

01:02:14   I don't they just didn't turn the boat [TS]

01:02:16   around like they weren't that far away [TS]

01:02:17   it's like that turn the second round [TS]

01:02:19   we're gonna guess what remember thinking [TS]

01:02:21   oh just not to do she just did kill her [TS]

01:02:22   well I you know what it was that was [TS]

01:02:24   worse Telegraph than the only thing for [TS]

01:02:26   me it was just as soon as she lays the [TS]

01:02:28   kids are like oh you had dated before [TS]

01:02:30   the way energy when she kissed the ring [TS]

01:02:32   in the previous episode like she can't [TS]

01:02:33   she's not gonna let this go [TS]

01:02:34   yea biden you yeah well it was nice that [TS]

01:02:37   they was nice that that Jamie got some [TS]

01:02:39   time to acknowledge his daughter that he [TS]

01:02:40   was her dad even though she already knew [TS]

01:02:42   I'd like two seconds before she does [TS]

01:02:44   yeah yeah yeah I like poison is time to [TS]

01:02:47   like dramatic dramatic revelation poison [TS]

01:02:49   that it occurs right after a dramatic [TS]

01:02:51   revelation [TS]

01:02:52   yeah if you're in a place like it seems [TS]

01:02:54   like all these Dornish women have poison [TS]

01:02:56   and antidotes like if you're hanging out [TS]

01:02:58   there like just wouldn't everyone have [TS]

01:03:00   one of those little blue bottles and [TS]

01:03:01   around the bag just in case it's like an [TS]

01:03:03   EpiPen right-hand man at the border you [TS]

01:03:05   know if you're allergic to poison have [TS]

01:03:07   that around his little EpiPen just you [TS]

01:03:09   after her meal just take it for the hell [TS]

01:03:11   of it as a digest it could be sanding [TS]

01:03:13   poison one last thing before we wrap up [TS]

01:03:16   game of thrones which is I want to ask [TS]

01:03:19   about the idea there are so many [TS]

01:03:20   storylines in the show and there are [TS]

01:03:22   moments that I felt like it just was [TS]

01:03:25   struggled to keep the momentum going and [TS]

01:03:27   adding door into the wheel just adds [TS]

01:03:29   another thing you have to keep coming [TS]

01:03:30   around to and although i think episode 8 [TS]

01:03:32   was kind of spectacular in its in in [TS]

01:03:35   that fight scene that last half hour so [TS]

01:03:38   often we get these episodes where you're [TS]

01:03:40   just cutting it's hard to get going [TS]

01:03:42   because they remind you where we are and [TS]

01:03:44   when we see a scene and then we're done [TS]

01:03:45   and then the next episode like that [TS]

01:03:47   spider-man comic strip [TS]

01:03:49   no it'sit's very slowly what happened [TS]

01:03:52   last week [TS]

01:03:52   this is what happens this up yeah one [TS]

01:03:54   time for one day so I I don't know if [TS]

01:03:55   anybody else shares that but I feel like [TS]

01:03:57   that the the show continues to struggle [TS]

01:03:58   with that point which is that they're [TS]

01:04:00   sort of too much going on in too many [TS]

01:04:01   places and they seem to be trying to [TS]

01:04:03   streamline it but it's still hard to get [TS]

01:04:05   the story going and then all the sudden [TS]

01:04:07   it's over [TS]

01:04:08   well the show has always been about the [TS]

01:04:09   dancing all these storylines forward [TS]

01:04:12   forward forward forward climax and [TS]

01:04:14   before it always felt like ok they're [TS]

01:04:16   advancing the spot they're advancing [TS]

01:04:17   this plot enough to keep you interested [TS]

01:04:19   and in this season if you like they [TS]

01:04:21   tried to do that but i ended up with [TS]

01:04:22   trudging trudging trudging major episode [TS]

01:04:24   where everything happens and we're all [TS]

01:04:26   crying on Twitter [TS]

01:04:27   that's how i felt the finale goes i [TS]

01:04:29   actually enjoy the trudging maybe and [TS]

01:04:31   maybe it's my classic Doctor Who you [TS]

01:04:33   know where Craig coming up here but i [TS]

01:04:34   like the slower pace i mean i can't [TS]

01:04:36   remember which episode it was but it was [TS]

01:04:38   the one where afterwards everybody was [TS]

01:04:39   like nothing happened and I was like and [TS]

01:04:41   it was my favorite one because i like [TS]

01:04:44   just going into cycling through and [TS]

01:04:46   seeing little things happen I you know [TS]

01:04:49   the big stuff is fine but honestly I get [TS]

01:04:50   bored by the fight scenes [TS]

01:04:51   yeah that's true in my notes every week [TS]

01:04:53   when we do these TV podcast it goes [TS]

01:04:56   they fight and they're cool they're fun [TS]

01:04:58   to watch but they fight that's it [TS]

01:05:00   well some of these fights were important [TS]

01:05:01   like the hard home one big now we just [TS]

01:05:03   been complaining asking when they're [TS]

01:05:05   going to the fireworks factory for so [TS]

01:05:06   long it's like finally the White Walkers [TS]

01:05:08   are here and there over running places [TS]

01:05:11   with people not just one guy not just [TS]

01:05:13   guys Susan wandering by a horse not you [TS]

01:05:15   know but like an entire announce like [TS]

01:05:17   was going you know yet they they [TS]

01:05:20   that's what we've been waiting for the [TS]

01:05:21   White Walkers and coming down they [TS]

01:05:23   arrived and it is a payoff of all the [TS]

01:05:25   all of the you know the boy who cried [TS]

01:05:27   wolf like you know we jon snow saying [TS]

01:05:29   just the walkers are coming [TS]

01:05:31   we've seen them my friend killed one [TS]

01:05:33   they're gonna get here we know winter is [TS]

01:05:35   coming what are we arguing about stupid [TS]

01:05:37   like you know we should all be together [TS]

01:05:39   because that and we have a common enemy [TS]

01:05:41   and like in the middle of the discussion [TS]

01:05:43   of trying to figure out that it's like [TS]

01:05:44   and they're here too late i've been [TS]

01:05:46   trying to convince you this for like [TS]

01:05:47   five seasons and you guys are not [TS]

01:05:49   getting it up and see this is what I was [TS]

01:05:51   telling you these guys right here see [TS]

01:05:53   this now John imagine you would read [TS]

01:05:55   five almost thousand-page book sometime [TS]

01:05:57   it's still hadn't showed her and yet and [TS]

01:06:00   yet I would happily try would happily [TS]

01:06:02   trade all of the wall scenes from work [TS]

01:06:04   stuff in Dorne like I know people get [TS]

01:06:06   excited about the White Walkers but [TS]

01:06:07   that's the part of the show that i just [TS]

01:06:09   kind of like it goes back to the wall [TS]

01:06:10   and I'm like okay I'll wait it out until [TS]

01:06:13   until I have something more colorful or [TS]

01:06:15   interesting or battery to watch zombies [TS]

01:06:18   ok zombies fine i just really like that [TS]

01:06:21   scene that I thought hard home as a set [TS]

01:06:23   piece was fantastic just well shot well [TS]

01:06:27   no great effect super-creepy really [TS]

01:06:30   atmospheric the fog and then the silence [TS]

01:06:33   and the fights with the white Walker [TS]

01:06:35   because again having read so many books [TS]

01:06:36   made like a hobby and the White Walkers [TS]

01:06:38   like John so they just sort of work [TS]

01:06:39   around the edges stealing things and [TS]

01:06:41   killing people and you're like the only [TS]

01:06:42   seem like a kind of a vague shadowy [TS]

01:06:44   threat but they're really you know [TS]

01:06:46   there's not a lot of substance to them [TS]

01:06:48   and so to actually see them [TS]

01:06:50   this is this is what you're dealing with [TS]

01:06:51   was actually I thought that was a high [TS]

01:06:53   point of the season for me because it [TS]

01:06:55   did really bring home like this is this [TS]

01:06:57   is a real threat it's not just this [TS]

01:06:59   shadowy mysterious force coming from the [TS]

01:07:02   north and to see you know I just I [TS]

01:07:04   really I i had a jaw-dropping moment [TS]

01:07:05   when when you know I think John's gonna [TS]

01:07:08   get like stabbed or something i don't [TS]

01:07:10   think he's gonna die at that point but [TS]

01:07:11   like when the the Valyrian steel holds [TS]

01:07:13   many shatters the guy I had a moment of [TS]

01:07:15   that was pretty cool so I have to say I [TS]

01:07:18   i was a and having read so you know [TS]

01:07:20   spend so much time in the books and [TS]

01:07:22   reading and watching the show and [TS]

01:07:23   everything it was nice as we talk about [TS]

01:07:25   up front to see something that wasn't in [TS]

01:07:26   the books that I had no expectation of [TS]

01:07:28   what was going to happen so I also love [TS]

01:07:31   political intrigue and I agree that [TS]

01:07:33   there were parts of the season that felt [TS]

01:07:34   a little bit shorter on that but I i [TS]

01:07:37   will call out hard home as I think just [TS]

01:07:39   a just a fantastic set piece I thought [TS]

01:07:41   he could have died there I was fully [TS]

01:07:43   expecting like this could be it for John [TS]

01:07:44   because this would be a fitting end up [TS]

01:07:46   like him going up another another [TS]

01:07:47   foolish mission like I'm gonna go [TS]

01:07:49   convince these guys like I'm gonna go [TS]

01:07:50   with them i'm going to leave the Nights [TS]

01:07:52   Watch to like you know planning my [TS]

01:07:54   murder back by themselves [TS]

01:07:56   I'm gonna go and talk to these guys are [TS]

01:07:57   gonna try to convince them and then the [TS]

01:07:59   middle of me trying to convince me to [TS]

01:08:00   get a chance to these guys come and like [TS]

01:08:02   this could be the end for him and they [TS]

01:08:04   did the nice thing where they're slowly [TS]

01:08:06   revealing the parameters of of the white [TS]

01:08:09   Walker enemy oh so the dragonglass that [TS]

01:08:11   does something right so we had that [TS]

01:08:13   dream action we we talk what's his name [TS]

01:08:14   was definitely going to be dead and he [TS]

01:08:16   save himself with that same and then we [TS]

01:08:17   see the White Walkers killing a bunch of [TS]

01:08:19   other people but they didn't they tell [TS]

01:08:20   about this i should never watch the [TS]

01:08:21   scenes they showed the scene where he [TS]

01:08:23   has a sort of player in steel so I kind [TS]

01:08:25   of saw that coming because it's like why [TS]

01:08:26   are you mentioning that sword again and [TS]

01:08:27   how it's made me who has that sort of [TS]

01:08:29   but but it's exciting to see you know [TS]

01:08:32   because the characters in the show don't [TS]

01:08:34   know what the parameters of the enemy [TS]

01:08:35   are either what how can they be defeated [TS]

01:08:37   what works get them was that's why they [TS]

01:08:39   were excited about the dress [TS]

01:08:40   I was like this worked once and then [TS]

01:08:42   John smells like hey there's another [TS]

01:08:43   thing work once but how many of the [TS]

01:08:44   stores are there not enough like you [TS]

01:08:47   know but but at least they're still [TS]

01:08:49   figuring stuff out [TS]

01:08:50   I didn't for a moment think that Jon [TS]

01:08:51   Snow was gonna die with all the the [TS]

01:08:54   White Walkers because that would have [TS]

01:08:55   been like sort of a noble death with him [TS]

01:08:57   trying his best and i have come to [TS]

01:08:59   expect it everybody's going to die in [TS]

01:09:01   the most horrible awful gut-wrenching [TS]

01:09:03   way possible to whom it was noble what [TS]

01:09:05   he did he didn't even fight back he was [TS]

01:09:06   like my friends they don't like me no i [TS]

01:09:09   don't i don't think that's Noble [TS]

01:09:11   well you know it's not but it's noble [TS]

01:09:13   not to fight back its noble not to flee [TS]

01:09:14   you know it's as good watching as the [TS]

01:09:17   red wedding because it's these [TS]

01:09:18   characters we love we've had for years [TS]

01:09:20   and then there there and there i [TS]

01:09:23   disagree i feel like they should've he [TS]

01:09:26   could have fought back and the scene [TS]

01:09:28   would have been much more different if [TS]

01:09:29   he had fought back fall back fall back [TS]

01:09:30   and then died after maybe five minutes [TS]

01:09:32   or so and it's almost like the red [TS]

01:09:34   wedding because they're there they're [TS]

01:09:37   hanging out having a good time and then [TS]

01:09:38   suddenly like completely playing dirty [TS]

01:09:42   they just stab them and it's so [TS]

01:09:44   upsetting in that way [TS]

01:09:45   mainly because you know a character you [TS]

01:09:48   love deserves a much better death but he [TS]

01:09:50   has feelings for her and his body [TS]

01:09:52   yeah right but amongst all that he's [TS]

01:09:54   like I know you guys don't like me i [TS]

01:09:55   know i narrowly won this election but [TS]

01:09:57   come on guys like you see that I am [TS]

01:09:59   trying to do what's right like he's he [TS]

01:10:02   feels betrayed and hurt in a way that it [TS]

01:10:06   basically that's that's why i feel like [TS]

01:10:08   you know the character didn't fight back [TS]

01:10:09   because it's like because he's just so [TS]

01:10:11   hard that is like in the end these [TS]

01:10:13   people who I thought would understand [TS]

01:10:16   that what I was doing was for the best [TS]

01:10:17   don't understand i really am alone so [TS]

01:10:20   just everyone take turns stabbing me and [TS]

01:10:21   that's why only comes in like nine you [TS]

01:10:23   too Olly because i thought maybe i can [TS]

01:10:25   convince you and I don't want you to [TS]

01:10:26   have to live with it like but he doesn't [TS]

01:10:28   fight back [TS]

01:10:28   no he just wants everybody to take turns [TS]

01:10:30   now 10 seconds no second everybody gets [TS]

01:10:33   19 but that's that's what's on his face [TS]

01:10:35   on his faces the disappointment that [TS]

01:10:38   of the betrayal like it and you know [TS]

01:10:40   he's I was just doing what I gotta like [TS]

01:10:42   father like son that you know that it's [TS]

01:10:44   generally a game of thrones world if you [TS]

01:10:46   are noble honorable person trying to do [TS]

01:10:48   the right thing I mean I guess the [TS]

01:10:50   closest we have a Syrian his kind of [TS]

01:10:52   noble and kind of honorable sometimes [TS]

01:10:55   except he's out for himself enough that [TS]

01:10:57   he's not dead yet yeah yeah he did kill [TS]

01:10:59   his ex-girlfriend killing his dad is [TS]

01:11:01   fine as that kind of had that common [TS]

01:11:03   killing his ex-girlfriend yeah that's I [TS]

01:11:06   mean he's not as he's not as Nobles Jon [TS]

01:11:07   Snow put out the as like father like son [TS]

01:11:10   even though use maybe not maybe not even [TS]

01:11:13   anybody was not going previous episodes [TS]

01:11:16   he was that his father should have [TS]

01:11:17   embraced him as the one son that is the [TS]

01:11:19   most like him but he didn't [TS]

01:11:21   oh well no well said that's he's dead [TS]

01:11:23   now or you know but he might not stay [TS]

01:11:25   there but we'll see [TS]

01:11:27   come back as a white Walker like they [TS]

01:11:28   have theories and kit Harrington is [TS]

01:11:30   apparently said that they told him he's [TS]

01:11:32   done [TS]

01:11:32   yeah well that's I think that again i [TS]

01:11:34   think is also a live with smoke screens [TS]

01:11:36   that wasn't doctor doctor who fans know [TS]

01:11:38   they tell them to see lots of times that [TS]

01:11:41   are totally not true it is funny because [TS]

01:11:43   now we are all in that position of [TS]

01:11:44   spending the next year or so and I guess [TS]

01:11:47   now it's a race whether george RR martin [TS]

01:11:50   or the priest or the HBO gets to it [TS]

01:11:52   first so I don't think that's gonna [TS]

01:11:53   happen i think i think we'd already know [TS]

01:11:55   when the next george RR martin book was [TS]

01:11:58   coming out if it was going to be coming [TS]

01:11:59   up by next spring they might they might [TS]

01:12:01   surprise drop it like wake up tomorrow [TS]

01:12:03   and be like about it like Beyonce album [TS]

01:12:06   yeah we should do the next decisions of [TS]

01:12:07   the TV show and then add the books be [TS]

01:12:09   entirely different yeah it might tell [TS]

01:12:11   you guys what's gonna happen actually [TS]

01:12:12   like not just a little bit different in [TS]

01:12:14   the details but that doesn't have the [TS]

01:12:16   ending be different like in the books [TS]

01:12:17   the White Walkers win a TV show they [TS]

01:12:18   don't like that kind of anything in the [TS]

01:12:21   book Marvin has a circular head in the [TS]

01:12:23   movie he has yea and all that is [TS]
